- 0:02Speaker 2: Hi everyone, this is Sarah Harrelson, your host of Taking
- 0:05Speaker 2: a Walk Nashville, and today I am here with Missouri
- 0:09Speaker 2: native and Nashville artist Tyler Nance. His first single, bad News,
- 0:14Speaker 2: went viral last year and his debut EP, Wasted Chances
- 0:18Speaker 2: has amassed over four million streams. Today, we are here
- 0:22Speaker 2: at the Creator Studio in the Gulch area to talk
- 0:25Speaker 2: about his new music and what's ahead. Tyler, thank you
- 0:28Speaker 2: so much for being on Taking a Walk Nashville today.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Thanks for having me.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah, so we have the CMA Awards tomorrow. I saw
- 0:35Speaker 2: last night you were playing at Whiskey Jam. What else
- 0:37Speaker 2: do you have going on during this crazy CMA week?
- 0:40Speaker 1: Well, I I played keeps Me Saying or Saying Keeps
- 0:44Speaker 1: Me Saying with the Castello's last night at their Skydeck appearance,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and then later Thursday I'll be playing Whiskey Jam at Derk.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Spentley's fans can definitely look forward to this Friday when
- 1:01Speaker 2: they can hear the recording new recording of it Keeps
- 1:04Speaker 2: Me Saying with the Castellos. So what was it like
- 1:09Speaker 2: working with them on this new version of your song?
- 1:12Speaker 1: It was honestly pretty simple. I mean, I didn't recut vocals.
- 1:16Speaker 1: They just came in to brit mccholo's studio and did
- 1:21Speaker 1: their thing and worked their magic, and it got done
- 1:24Speaker 1: pretty quick. And then next thing you know, we're doing
- 1:27Speaker 1: a music video together for the song. So yeah, it
- 1:32Speaker 1: was a lot of fun.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I think it's going to be a great mashup. I
- 1:34Speaker 2: love the song and I can't wait to hear it.
- 1:37Speaker 2: So let's talk about how you got started and music.
- 1:40Speaker 2: You were raised in a small town as a fourth
- 1:43Speaker 2: generation farmer and later employed as a welder before you
- 1:47Speaker 2: made the move to pursue music full time in Nashville.
- 1:51Speaker 2: So what made you fully made the decision to move
- 1:55Speaker 2: to Nashville and just do music full time.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So I was I was working in South Dakota at
- 2:00Speaker 1: the time, and I just signed my distro deal with
- 2:05Speaker 1: sant Ana Almo, and then bad news blew up and
- 2:10Speaker 1: whenever I came to Nashville for the first time and
- 2:12Speaker 1: I flew back, and then I was offered a publishing
- 2:15Speaker 1: deal through Platinum Grammar, and so I was like, well,
- 2:19Speaker 1: might as well quit my job. So my twenty first birthday,
- 2:24Speaker 1: I quit my job and moved back home for a
- 2:27Speaker 1: couple of months and then pulled my camper out to Franklin,
- 2:31Speaker 1: Kentucky and stayed there for a little bit til I
- 2:34Speaker 1: moved out to into Nashville.
- 2:37Speaker 2: And welders have such early hours, So what has the
- 2:40Speaker 2: transition been like from waking up so early to now
- 2:44Speaker 2: playing late night gigs?
- 2:46Speaker 1: I mean, it was it was kind of late nights
- 2:49Speaker 1: and early mornings whenever I was whenever I was welding.
- 2:53Speaker 1: But I mean it's kind of the you know, same
- 2:56Speaker 1: sort of idea with music, you know, I was, I
- 3:00Speaker 1: was playing last night with the Castlows and had to
- 3:03Speaker 1: wake up at five o'clock this morning to five point
- 3:06Speaker 1: thirty this morning to meet people with the radio.
- 3:09Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, and it's worth it for the dream,
- 3:12Speaker 2: I'm sure.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean, you know, it's it's tiring, but
- 3:16Speaker 1: you know, you just got to take it day by
- 3:18Speaker 1: day and that's all you can do.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Absolutely, And who have some of your influence has been
- 3:25Speaker 2: growing up.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Keith Willie, you know, Elvis, you know, rock and roll, country,
- 3:30Speaker 1: old country, just all of those genres really influenced me
- 3:37Speaker 1: with writing and my creativity.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's definitely something I can hear in your music
- 3:43Speaker 2: and you're currently working on your first full length album.
- 3:48Speaker 2: What has the process been like working on your new album?
- 3:52Speaker 1: You know the reason? I mean, there's seventeen songs on
- 3:56Speaker 1: the album, but that's I've been writing like non stop
- 4:00Speaker 1: since I since I uh moved to this area, and
- 4:05Speaker 1: you know, we were like trying to pick out which
- 4:07Speaker 1: ones were the best. And I have so many songs
- 4:09Speaker 1: that I've written that were like, why not just make
- 4:13Speaker 1: it a seventeen song album, Like what's might as well?
- 4:17Speaker 1: I mean, we got the we got the material, so
- 4:19Speaker 1: it's it's been it's been pretty good. You know. We've well,
- 4:23Speaker 1: I've been I've just been writing and then in the
- 4:25Speaker 1: studio in and out and working with these guys make
- 4:28Speaker 1: sure it's how I want it to sound.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And yeah, very cool. Will that be released next year?
- 4:34Speaker 1: Yeah? Next year in the in the spring.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Nice. And you co wrote or wrote all of the
- 4:39Speaker 2: songs on the album.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yep. I usually just try to at least go in
- 4:45Speaker 1: every single time into a room with some sort of
- 4:49Speaker 1: idea to write about. And that's what these songs started
- 4:54Speaker 1: all started to be was just a thought and thought
- 4:57Speaker 1: while I was driving or in the shower in bed,
- 5:00Speaker 1: you know, and then I just take it, take it
- 5:02Speaker 1: to some great writers to help complete that thought.
- 5:06Speaker 2: You know, do you ever have song ideas from your
- 5:09Speaker 2: welding experience?
- 5:11Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, no doubt maybe not like just talking
- 5:17Speaker 1: about welding, but you know a lot of my earlier
- 5:20Speaker 1: written songs were a lot about working on the road
- 5:23Speaker 1: and road dogging. Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, very cool and very authentic. As far as touring,
- 5:31Speaker 2: you have shared stages with Justin Moore, Baker Blankenship, and
- 5:35Speaker 2: now you're going to be support on Ian Munsei's upcoming
- 5:38Speaker 2: tour in twenty twenty six. Are you excited to go
- 5:41Speaker 2: on the road next.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm super excited to start getting in front of
- 5:45Speaker 1: fans and also just you know, growing my audience and listeners.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Is there a certain stop you're looking most forward to
- 5:53Speaker 2: or just the whole tour.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to mostly just the whole tour, like
- 5:58Speaker 1: the some of the locations I've never been and I've
- 6:02Speaker 1: been looking forward to seeing that in my life.

- 6:24Speaker 2: It's like near Franklin, like the downtown. It's Franklin area.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that that area is pretty and I
- 6:31Speaker 1: just don't wherever there's nature, just walk walk around there.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah, there's so many great parks in Franklin too, there are.
- 6:38Speaker 1: There's just it's a pretty area in general, you know.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, is the music video the full music video
- 6:46Speaker 2: for keeps Me Sane? Is that coming out on Friday
