Transcript
- 0:00Hello everyone and welcome back to Kenny conversation brought to
- 0:04you by Jags, the leader in high performance aftermarket car
- 0:08parts. Remember to go to jags.com for
- 0:12anything you need to fix your hot rods up and remember they're
- 0:15all about Jeep parts and truck parts.
- 0:19Well, you're looking at him right now, the fastest dirt,
- 0:23super late model driver in America.
- 0:25And I'm going to save the world right now because Bobby, heck,
- 0:30you could go over to Australia. You're still going to kick their
- 0:32butt. How you doing, buddy?
- 0:33Bobby Pierce. Doing really good.
- 0:36Glad to see you, Kenny. And yeah, man, it's been great
- 0:39lately. Hopefully we can keep it going.
- 0:41We're here at Cedar Lake this weekend, so a race I won last
- 0:45year. So we'll see if we can keep the
- 0:47five in a row going to six in a row.
- 0:50We thought we would try something new on Kenny
- 0:52conversation. Bobby, we're checking in with
- 0:55you and I think we're going to say Kenny conversation checking
- 0:59in and that's what we're doing. Maybe 15 minutes long.
- 1:03So I want to thank you for being the first driver ever on on
- 1:07checking in. So let's just do that.
- 1:10I saw yesterday the World of Outlaw had a feel good
- 1:14situation. All of you, even your
- 1:17competitors, you went on a float trip.
- 1:19Tell me about that. Yeah, that was pretty nice.
- 1:22First time I've ever done it. I I guess I did do when I was a
- 1:25little kid, like two or three years old.
- 1:27So I don't remember any of it. But the Apple River, which is
- 1:31like a 10 minute drive from Cedar Lake, float down the
- 1:35river. And heck, there was like 75
- 1:38people between drivers and crew and fans and Steve Francis was
- 1:44there and WRG officials and everything.
- 1:47Yeah, it was good time. It was great weather, sunny, not
- 1:52too hot and the water wasn't too cold and it was just a nice
- 1:56relaxing time. Had some drinks and flowed down
- 1:59the river and then we stopped and had some tacos afterwards.
- 2:02So awesome day. I cannot get my wife to do those
- 2:06because she think she thinks there's going to be snakes.
- 2:09Did you see any snakes? No, I was actually bummed we
- 2:12didn't see any wildlife. We because I said it.
- 2:15I said I like to see nature and I said I wanted to see like a a
- 2:21Beaver or a snake or an alligator in Wisconsin, but
- 2:24didn't see anything. Was that all about maybe just a
- 2:28mid season 3/4 away season break?
- 2:31You guys have been racing a lot. Why do you think the World of
- 2:33Outlaws did this? Yeah, I think it's a good to
- 2:39have a break. You know we've been going hard
- 2:41this summer. Obviously all the races we do
- 2:44aren't all where about law races as we we try to get around about
- 2:47all of it between XR and Lucas Oil and Flow.
- 2:51So heck we race 10 races in a row weeks like 2 weeks ago.
- 2:56So literally 10 nights in a row. We've have been having our own
- 2:59summer nationals, but it's nice to have some breaks over now.
- 3:03So Charlie's going to air this at different times, but right
- 3:06now it's it's we are on the same time zone.
- 3:09I'm in Saint Louis, you're in Cedar Lake, Wisconsin.
- 3:11It's it's 2:10 and you're getting ready to go practice
- 3:14here at 630 drivers meeting. I want to thank you for popping
- 3:18on. I guess I guess I want to start
- 3:21out like this. Is this your best year ever in
- 3:25dirt racing because, and I mean this nice.
- 3:27Don't take this wrong. It seems like you're either
- 3:30winning or blowing a motor. I'm glad you're not mad at me
- 3:35because that's what I see. You're either winning.
- 3:39Is this your best year ever? Yeah, it I think it is as to
- 3:44this point as far as the winds and I only had one crown jewel
- 3:48at this point last year. And then of course, I went to
- 3:50Cedar Lake and Florence and won both of those, which made it 3
- 3:54for the year. But now I already have 3 crown
- 3:57jewels or three 50,000 to win races heading into this weekend.
- 4:01We've already won three of them. So it's definitely, I think it's
- 4:05better. And even we went to Vato, we
- 4:08almost can win six races there, and we won four of the six,
- 4:12almost won them all. Larson kind of got us that last
- 4:16night there. But yeah, it's been a great
- 4:18year. Of course, this being the second
- 4:20year in a Longhorn, you know that's going to help because
- 4:22last year was kind of figuring it out a little.
- 4:25Didn't take us long to figure it out.
- 4:27And yeah, so better year in the sense of that, worse year in the
- 4:32sense of if we're not winning, we're having bad luck, we're
- 4:35having crazy stuff happen. It's been a roller coaster
- 4:38season up and down, up and down, you know, and that's how racing
- 4:42goes. But this year has been pretty
- 4:44crazy with that. So it is wild to think that this
- 4:47has been my best year as far as wins with everything else.
- 4:52I want to get to Fairbury. We're going to get to it right
- 4:54away. But before we get to Fairbury,
- 4:58the Prairie Dirt Classic, which you just won, incredible win, I
- 5:04want to comment on something. I want you to, you know,
- 5:07respond. I feel like you have a God-given
- 5:11talent. I also feel like now this year
- 5:15more so I always felt like it, but now this year I'm convinced
- 5:19that you're kind of one with the car.
- 5:21Like like I don't think you even have to think about what you're
- 5:25going to do it just it's just like it's like you are in
- 5:28control of that car. You know, as to where, you know,
- 5:32the car's a big vehicle weighs a lot, 20, four, 2500 lbs.
- 5:38You do you feel confident? I mean, because it looks like
- 5:41you're manhandling that car. Look, the more you race, as you
- 5:46know, experience goes a long way and if if you do something about
- 5:52every day, you're going to get better at your craft.
- 5:55And you know, like I said, we went race 10 races in a row.
- 5:59If you can have the opportunity that you're going to be better
- 6:03at no matter what it is you do, if you're trying to pick up a
- 6:06new hobby and you've never done it before, if you do it every
- 6:09day, you're going to get better at it and you're going to become
- 6:11one within what you're talking about.
- 6:14So I do feel like I got a lot of confidence.
- 6:17But you know, my dad, he's very smart.
- 6:21We work great together. He's been with him a whole
- 6:23career and I got a good career and right now I got three full
- 6:27time guys. Ever had three full time guys
- 6:30before? It's, you know, that's pretty
- 6:32tough to do to have that many crew guys and, and actually make
- 6:36it work and the logistics of everything.
- 6:39So but when you race that much, you you need that help and it's
- 6:46just it's tough. We're all working really hard.
- 6:48And yeah, I think just the experience and everything like
- 6:53that goes a long way. I've been doing this stuff since
- 6:55I was 1414 was when I first started racing super late miles
- 6:591314. So I've been doing it for half
- 7:01my life. I I need to do a Kenny
- 7:05conversation with the the tall cool one, your dad, Bob Pierce,
- 7:09and I wished he was there with you right now.
- 7:12So we all want to know he comes to Victory Lane.
- 7:15Let's go to fair Berry now He comes to Victory Lane.
- 7:18Got the big old gash, got the blood and and you're such a
- 7:21loving son. You could see you looked up and
- 7:24like you were worried about your dad.
- 7:26He goes, he said. He said he got knocked out.
- 7:29Tell OK what happened well. He first, he first comes up to
- 7:34me and he said I got knocked out, but I'm I'm here, I'm I'm
- 7:37OK, I'll you know, I knew he wasn't knocked out.
- 7:41He signalled me the race. But in my first impression when
- 7:46he said that, I was like thinking a fan, crazy fan, a
- 7:50fair Berry. You know, it's crazy there.
- 7:51It's rambunctious, like someone just hit him upside the head.
- 7:55Who knows, But he said it was a rock.
- 7:57A rock hit him on like lap ten of the race and he was people
- 8:01next to him were like, oh, you're bleeding and stuff.
- 8:03He's like, I don't care. I got a signal.
- 8:05And then even after the race, even that later that night, I
- 8:08think it was, I mean this is a wild night.
- 8:12And when I eventually got home at like 5, AMI had no water in
- 8:16my house. So I had to go shower at my
- 8:18parents house. I had to drive back to the shop.
- 8:20Hold on, this is my job. Why no?
- 8:23Why no water in your house? You know, when you're barely
- 8:29home, stuff just breaks down I guess, and you can't stay on top
- 8:32of it. OK, good stuff.
- 8:34It was a water pump issue. Abby ended up fixing it
- 8:37actually. So.
- 8:38She's a bad ass. Yeah, but yeah, so then I went
- 8:41and showered and they were just getting there at like 5:30 in
- 8:45the morning and his head was still bloody.
- 8:48And I was like, are you going to wash that off?
- 8:50I was like, he's like, Nah, I'm all right.
- 8:54Oh my God, he, he. That was it.
- 8:56That was his Wounded Warrior sort of speak.
- 8:59I'm not stealing that from our our our great soldiers, but he's
- 9:03a warrior. He's like, I'm going to wear
- 9:04this like a badge of honor. So OK, Bobby, I'll paint the
- 9:08picture and then you respond. So now straighten me out when
- 9:13I'm wrong. You go to fair Berry, you have
- 9:16motor issues. You have to start last.
- 9:19You take a whirl of outlaw provisional.
- 9:22You start last. You go to 4th.
- 9:26Before that you missed, you missed a little bit.
- 9:28So the motor issue was on Wednesday, that was during the
- 9:30flow race, which had nothing to do with pretty classic.
- 9:34And then the PDC started on Thursday.
- 9:37But so at the flow race we had the motor issue in hot laps and
- 9:40I think it was caused from we raced on a really rough
- 9:42racetrack the night before, probably should have stuff,
- 9:45should have been looked over more.
- 9:47It broke in hot laps. We end up finishing fourth the
- 9:49flow race and then at the PDC on Friday night's prelim race, we
- 9:56were just about to get to the lead in the prelim race and the
- 9:59drive shaft broke so. That's why it was.
- 10:02Provisional. Yeah, you know, talking about
- 10:05that. I always tell my friends I'm
- 10:07constantly doing maintenance and the key is to replace this stuff
- 10:12before it breaks. So I know what you're talking
- 10:14about. We have a lot of what we call
- 10:16wheel spin. When we get on a rough track the
- 10:19motor free spins and and then lands back down OK.
- 10:24Lands, yeah. Yeah.
- 10:25So I mean it's it's like if you don't put new U bolts in the
- 10:28drive shaft or new drive shaft or new motor, it's just it, it's
- 10:32hard to keep up with. I'm with you, Bobby.
- 10:34OK, so because of that, you take the provisional, you start, what
- 10:39was it, 29th, 30th? They started 30 cars they had.
- 10:43Cars started 24th because the rest behind me was provisionals
- 10:49for track, provisional and outlaw emergency provisionals.
- 10:53So you put on a display and I'm going to let you I'm going to
- 10:57let you take it over here in a minute, but this is for the fans
- 10:59that didn't watch. So you start basically 24th, you
- 11:03get to 4th and you're coming. You're.
- 11:05Coming up, crowds. On their feet and you you're
- 11:09right front gets into somebody you spin out you go to the dead
- 11:15last again and you come who win it on the last corner take over
- 11:21now what in the with with 40 go when you spin out that's where I
- 11:26want you to take over right now. Tell me about it.
- 11:29So when I spun out, which it was a deal where a lap car had my
- 11:34vision kind of blocked and then I went below the lap car and
- 11:37then there was a car right there.
- 11:38And that kind of deal where you can't get welled up in time and
- 11:44you almost take yourself out instead of taking that person
- 11:47out. And I sat there, got the engine
- 11:51fired back up and was like, man, I probably just blew my shot at
- 11:54winning the Prater Classic this year because you know, you never
- 11:59know if the race tracks even going to be good again for the
- 12:02last bit of the race to even get back to the front.
- 12:05Your tires are probably shot by then.
- 12:08You're you know, the momentum you had just got killed.
- 12:11So fired an engine back up, rolled around, looked at Bob up
- 12:17there. He was signaling me.
- 12:19He was trying to look at the crew guys and I was, it's like
- 12:22I, I'm, I was thinking Bob was going to be like, you know,
- 12:26sometimes he gets. Closer.
- 12:29Throws the signal gloves down or whatever and just watches the
- 12:32rest of their race and. So now you're on an island by
- 12:36yourself sometimes, like you think.
- 12:38So what did your dad do this time?
- 12:40He didn't throw his gloves down, did he?
- 12:43No, he actually didn't. He actually was cool, calm and
- 12:48collected for a change. And I, I had to go to the
- 12:52official because my race heaver was like cutting in and out.
- 12:54And I stopped to ask the official where I was going to
- 12:57restart. And he said because I talked to
- 13:00the official later, my friend Maddie, he thought I was going
- 13:03to be coming up with some excuse as to how I should get my spot
- 13:06back. And I was like, no, I just need
- 13:08to know where I restart. And so they told me I restarted
- 13:1219th and 40 laps to go restarting 19th.
- 13:16I had to do all that, all that passing that I did, had to do it
- 13:19over again. And in my head I, I thought, OK,
- 13:22a top five is not out of the picture here, but a win is
- 13:26definitely out of the picture. Like I'll be lucky to get a top
- 13:29five now because I had a fast car and I got from 24th to 4th
- 13:35and 60 laps. So I was like, OK, I can go from
- 13:3719th and maybe 5th if things work out and I got to, what was
- 13:45it 6th with or 7th with 20 laps to go.
- 13:51So I was over halfway there with 20 laps out of the 40 and
- 13:58finally got to 4th. And it was a battle.
- 14:01I mean, it was a battle getting to there.
- 14:03You can imagine what was going on and stuff.
- 14:06And when I got to 4th, I was like, OK, we can literally have
- 14:10a shot at winning this thing. And I was starting to get a
- 14:13little, I wasn't really getting nervous until I got the 3rd.
- 14:17So when I was in fourth, Ricky Thornton ends up hitting the
- 14:21wall, breaking the J bar. He was running second.
- 14:23So that put me in 3rd with a restart.
- 14:26So we're 10 to go and I'm in 3rd and I'm thinking, OK, the guy
- 14:30running first and second are running bottom to middle mostly,
- 14:33and I'm running top. So I was like, I literally have
- 14:36a shot because of the lines they're running, the line I'm
- 14:40running and there's 10 to go. And I got all this momentum
- 14:42built back up and I was like, man, this would be the craziest
- 14:45race I've ever been a part of if I can pull this off.
- 14:47So I started getting a little nervous as in the sense of
- 14:50thinking what can happen and I just need to keep doing my thing
- 14:55and not not screw it up. So got the second mile to get
- 15:00the second. Then there was 5 laps to go and
- 15:02by the time I got the second Nick Hoffman, which was leading,
- 15:05he was quite a bit of ways ahead of me and I was like, I don't
- 15:08think I'm going to catch him in these five laps.
- 15:10And I got lucky with another caution.
- 15:12Brandon Shepherd has a flat tire.
- 15:15So if it wasn't for that chain of events, I probably wouldn't
- 15:19have had a chance to win. So now here we are restarting
- 15:21second with five laps to go and it's just it's a 5 lap shootout
- 15:27right for Prater Classic. Biggest, biggest race of my life
- 15:31in the sense of it's eluded me forever and I've ran second so
- 15:35many times and 3rd. I've been so close and things
- 15:39with the car happened, you know, I guess as Ruben said, we LED
- 15:42262 laps bigger classic and haven't won it yet.
- 15:48And then we restart and I, I, I could almost feel the energy of
- 15:55that place in the driver's seat, like I knew the crowd was
- 15:59experiencing in that moment and how pumped up everybody had to
- 16:02been. And thinking, just thinking to
- 16:05myself, why, if I pull this off like I'm dreaming, right?
- 16:09Cuz ain't no way that that just happened.
- 16:13Me and Nick having a good battle.
- 16:15He's running like middle, bottom, middle, bottom.
- 16:17I'm trying to get around him. He's swinging out to the wall
- 16:19and every lap I'm, I'm just having enough just to get back
- 16:23to his rear bumper, but not really do anything.
- 16:27Two laps to go and I'm bouncing through the holes about push and
- 16:31I just had to gas and I had a good, good exit and I got under
- 16:35Nick. We went and turned 3 and we were
- 16:37side by side and three and four. And what that did was when I got
- 16:41to his inside, it actually pulled him down low on the next
- 16:45corner because he thought he had to, he thought he had to come
- 16:48down a little bit right because he saw me on the inside.
- 16:50So I I went back to the outside and got to run around him and
- 16:54passed him and it was just, I think I blacked out coming to
- 16:59the checkered and had a a blackout moment where I don't
- 17:02really know exactly what I was experiencing.
- 17:05As a driver, I just want to talk about the white flag is in the
- 17:10air. You go into turn one, that run
- 17:13that you got, you know, white flags in the air.
- 17:16You going to turn one, you get the car turned the way you want
- 17:19it. Did you lay in the gas more
- 17:22right there because it seemed like you got a better run coming
- 17:27to the checkered off of to you. I mean you literally cleared in
- 17:30going down the back straight away.
- 17:32Do you remember what your foot was doing?
- 17:35Did you say screw it and just lay it down and see what would
- 17:37happen? So when we took the restart with
- 17:41five to go, we turned the second lap.
- 17:45After the restart, me and Nick both turned a lap time that was
- 17:49like really fast. Like we hadn't been that fast in
- 17:53the race since around lap 50 or 60 something.
- 17:56This is 100 lap race. So we were on the gas on the
- 18:02white flag lap. You know, I still hadn't passed
- 18:06him yet. So I knew when I went in turn
- 18:08one I had to make AI had to make the best corner that I have yet,
- 18:13right? I said when I go.
- 18:14In turn, I'm going to. Have to nail this freaking
- 18:17corner and how you had to enter the corner.
- 18:22It was so rough on the top on entrance.
- 18:24I was kind of going right below that.
- 18:26But you know, when you're on lap 100 of 100 lap race, your tires
- 18:30are gone. You don't have much traction in
- 18:32the slick. So you go in there and you're
- 18:34you got to be gentle. But because the harder you drive
- 18:37it, sometimes you're not faster right.
- 18:40You know how that is. So you have to just hit it
- 18:43right. And when I finally got to the
- 18:45moisture up there, I remember just matting it.
- 18:48I just matted the gas and it luckily the car didn't bounce a
- 18:51certain way. It it it bounced the correct way
- 18:54and I had a heck of a corner and just enough where I could get
- 18:58down and kind of block his entrance into three.
- 19:00So it was. It was crazy.
- 19:03Great, great description. So you entered a little easier,
- 19:07a little lower and then matted it then when?
- 19:11Yeah, yeah, Good stuff. So first of all, it was
- 19:16incredible. One of the greatest dirt races
- 19:18of all time. We we've seen a lot of good
- 19:19ones, but with the reason we say this one was one of the greatest
- 19:23of all time, One of them, one of them is because of what you went
- 19:27through. Because of what you went
- 19:29through. You went to the back, you know,
- 19:32twice. You started in the back, you
- 19:34went to the front, you went to the back.
- 19:36So that's why this race, this rates as one of the greatest
- 19:40crown jewel wins of all time for all of us.
- 19:44So I think I know the answer, but I want you to tell us all.
- 19:48You said, Oh my God, I think I started crying.
- 19:51I'm so emotional. I want to hear it from you.
- 19:56Why were you so emotional? Yeah.
- 20:01Even right now it's it's pretty crazy to think about.
- 20:03So that's. OK, you can cry.
- 20:05I cry. The PDC champion.
- 20:09There he is, ladies and gentlemen.
- 20:11So this race has been probably the biggest race of my career
- 20:17that you hear it all the time. You know, fans will say when are
- 20:23you going to win the PC? This be your ear, this be your
- 20:25ear. And it's like when the PDC rolls
- 20:27around, it is the thing that everyone talks about because
- 20:31ever since I was younger, so I've watched this race grow to
- 20:35be what it is. You know, it used to not be this
- 20:37big of a race. It used to be more of a, it was
- 20:41a big race in Illinois, but now it's a nationally well known big
- 20:46race. 50,000 win, $500 per lot. You can win $100,000 at that
- 20:50race. So the amount that this race is
- 20:56just, I've been so close. I've been passed on the last lap
- 20:59at this race. So I've been in Nick Hoffman's
- 21:01shoes. I've flipped going for the lead
- 21:05this race. I've I've ran second to Kyle
- 21:08Larson. I ran second to Ricky Thornton
- 21:10with a broken right rear shock, all sorts of things.
- 21:14I've even when I was younger at this race, I thought I was going
- 21:18to win it one time and late caution came out and I got
- 21:20passed in the 3rd. So my dad's won this race five
- 21:25times and I've won it zero times, but now I finally won it
- 21:29and that was a mixture there. You take this whole year of
- 21:36everything that's happened earlier in the year and
- 21:37everything how I said, it's been a roller coaster year and we're
- 21:41trying to climb back up there in points and we're trying to just
- 21:44work. We're working so hard.
- 21:46You know, we've been on the road a lot, the crews working hard,
- 21:50everybody's working hard and lots of sacrifice.
- 21:53So everything that went into that weekend, breaking the motor
- 21:59early to begin the week, having the drive shaft break in the
- 22:03prelim night, starting 24th, going to the front, spinning
- 22:07out, thinking your nights over, restarting 19th, coming back to
- 22:11the front, winning it on the last lap in dramatic fashion,
- 22:17like it had everything. You know, when Matt Curle came
- 22:21to my window, which Matt Curl is the owner promoter of Fairbury
- 22:26Speedway, he came to my window to congratulate me right before
- 22:30I was like getting out of the car and they were kind of
- 22:32holding me in the car for a second.
- 22:34You know how that is sometimes they're like, we're not ready
- 22:36yet. We're not ready.
- 22:37We got to set up. So you got to sit in that car
- 22:38and you're just wanting to get out of it.
- 22:40And he came to my window and he said Congrats.
- 22:44And me and Matt have a long history of just, you know, he's
- 22:48seen all the heartbreak we've endured there and everything.
- 22:51And I guess when he came in my window, I just started losing
- 22:54it. I just started crying.
- 22:55And you know, we finally, finally won it so.
- 23:00I think, I think it's go ahead. When I got out of the car, I
- 23:05freaking I was beating the heck out of the roof.
- 23:08With flag. Yeah.
- 23:09You. Yeah, I loved it.
- 23:11Yeah. And then I spiked the flag and
- 23:13spiked the hat and then. Damn it, Damn it.
- 23:15Damn it. Yes, Yeah.
- 23:17And then you and then you come off the car and you kind of you
- 23:21have this rush of adrenaline that's now kind of like
- 23:24crashing. And when I got off the car, I
- 23:29just wanted to see my family and crew and mostly Abby.
- 23:34I knew Abby was Abby was there and I didn't know where she was
- 23:37at. I was like, where's Abby?
- 23:38And and we hugged and. Did you almost pass out?
- 23:44Did you almost pass out from the?
- 23:46Hyperactivity. Yeah, the hyperactivity, just
- 23:49whenever you have that rush of adrenaline, you know, the last
- 23:51couple laps and cross the checkered flag and then you get
- 23:55on the roof and you celebrate. You have this adrenaline high.
- 23:57And then you come to an adrenaline crash and it's like,
- 23:59yeah, you got to, you got to like, hold up, I need some
- 24:03water. I want to, I want to do an
- 24:04audible here while I have you. We're at 25 minutes and we were
- 24:09already, I told Charlie we're going to do 15 minutes.
- 24:11He went, oh, yeah, right. So yeah, OK, fair.
- 24:14Berry. I was there for Indiana Midget
- 24:18week and I watched Rico Abrew. Those Midget guys just throw
- 24:22sliders on each other, which were ugly. the IT, it seems like
- 24:28fair Berry, there's a different set of rules in a good way.
- 24:32In other words, I watched Brandon Shepherd throw a slider
- 24:37on you for the win and just kind of climbed all up over your car
- 24:40and it's like, OK, that's what you do to win the race.
- 24:46Tell me about fair Berry and sliders.
- 24:48Is it kind of like it? Is it like OK for the win?
- 24:53You know, that's you just kind of do it because I watch this
- 24:56during when Rico Avery. It might have been five years
- 24:59ago, but I I watched some Midget guys just throw the most
- 25:02craziest dirty sliders. Tell me about sliders for the
- 25:06win at at Fair Berry. I think last lap, go for it in
- 25:13the sense of don't clean the guy out, but if you think it's going
- 25:18to be a close one, that's probably one race where you're
- 25:21kind of OK to go for it in a in a way.
- 25:23Yeah. When Shepherd, When Shepherd
- 25:26slid me, I was cool with it. This was back in like I think
- 25:322019. Yeah, they they showed the
- 25:35highlights. That's why I bring it up.
- 25:36I'm like, Oh my God, he cleaned his clock.
- 25:39I LED most of this race and then he the last lap, he catches me,
- 25:43slides me and kind of puts me in the wall a little bit.
- 25:45But but the thing about it is that whole race I had like very,
- 25:52very little power steering. It's a long story on what
- 25:55happened. It was an issue with the power
- 25:57steering tank, but I thought I wasn't even supposed to be in
- 26:03that position in that race anyway.
- 26:04So to be winning that race at the moment was a shock.
- 26:10And so when he went to slide me, I 9 by 10, you know, I can see
- 26:15him coming and I could you can kind of hit the brake pedal,
- 26:19turn down the hill, hopefully get enough run to clear him and
- 26:22and win the race, right. Do a crossover, they call it.
- 26:25But I didn't have the strength of that moment in the race
- 26:29because of the power steering issue to even turn the wheel.
- 26:32So I just stayed in the gas and I actually kind of ran into him
- 26:35in a sense, and everyone thought it looked worse on his part
- 26:38because I kind of stayed in the gas.
- 26:40Yeah, I, I, I see that a lot where people blame people where
- 26:46actually the guy that's getting slid, like you said that, you
- 26:49know, you see him coming up and and drivers will run into the
- 26:52driver. They say he threw a dirty slider
- 26:55on me. I'm like, no, I was sly.
- 26:56You, you ran into me. I'm glad you agree with that,
- 27:00because that's the way I see that too.
- 27:02Bobby, want to want to end it like this.
- 27:08You have to feel good about what you've done with your own race
- 27:11team. Now, this is a compliment, but
- 27:13it's a little controversial. You and I've had a lengthy Kenny
- 27:18conversation. You own your own team.
- 27:21I'm going to repeat it. You own your own team.
- 27:26You've got to feel good about yourself owning your own team.
- 27:30After you see what has happened to some of the other drivers
- 27:33like like a Ricky Thornton at the time, you know, winning
- 27:37everything course. You 2 weren't racing each other
- 27:40back-to-back. You know one's over at Lucas Oil
- 27:43that you're over at World Outlaws, and for him to get
- 27:46fired, did you ever think for a moment, damn, I'm glad I owned
- 27:50my own team? Yeah, you definitely, whenever
- 27:54you see stuff like that, you think about that.
- 27:58It's not easy. You know, there's there's always
- 28:00going to be a positive and a negative to everything, whether
- 28:03you're on your own team or whether you race for somebody.
- 28:07You know, we all go through a lot.
- 28:08Racing owners have to go through a lot.
- 28:14It just comes down to, you know, you can, you can I've seen JD
- 28:19have a heck of a year when he was in the Rumley 6 car.
- 28:22But it can be little things that, you know, this was a few
- 28:26years back when he was winning everything, right?
- 28:28It could be a little thing seen that just if something's just
- 28:31not clicking, someone might think it's best to go separate
- 28:37ways. And I don't know whatever the
- 28:40deal is there, but yeah, it's, it's, it's sometimes tough
- 28:45owning my own race team thinking that, man, all this money, I I'm
- 28:50winning could be winning, you know, I could be doing it and
- 28:53getting a good solid percentage with no expenses because, you
- 28:58know, I win these races, but I still have expenses.
- 28:59Whereas most drivers if they go win a race, they get a good
- 29:04percentage of that and they don't have any expenses really.
- 29:06I mean, so it's it, it definitely it's, it's crazy to
- 29:12see that happening, I guess. Yeah, you bring up a good point.
- 29:17The six car with Kevin Rumley and Jonathan Davenport, they
- 29:21dominate and then shut the team down.
- 29:24Ricky Thornton, of course, that was six years ago or so.
- 29:27Ricky Thornton dominates and they fire him.
- 29:30It is a funny business and I guess we'll just leave it at
- 29:34that, Bobby. And yeah, I like that look that
- 29:39you gave us inside your brain because when you do pop a motor
- 29:43and they're 5560 thousand dollars and then you win 50
- 29:46grand, you're like, well, I only lost 5 grand.
- 29:49So I hear you, buddy. OK, listen, I know you got to
- 29:54practice in a little bit there at Cedar Lake, Wisconsin.
- 29:57You're going for 50,000 win. Bobby, thank you so much for
- 30:01jumping on here and taking us through the legendary win at
- 30:05Fairbury for the Prairie Dirt Classic.
- 30:08Yeah, thank you. Thanks for having me.
- 30:10It's it's nice to relive that moment and I I I'm still
- 30:15thinking about that race. I I've watched replay several
- 30:18times. It's.
- 30:19Just crazy so. Yeah, hopefully we can go make
- 30:24some more magic this weekend. It's your lake.
- 30:26All right, buddy. Well, listen, there he is.
- 30:28Bobby Pierce, the winningest dirt racer this year.
- 30:32He's won his dream race to Prairie Dirt Classic in Fair
- 30:35Berry. And this is the Kenny
- 30:37conversation. Remember, we are in podcast
- 30:40form. You can listen to Bobby on your
- 30:42way to work or on your way from work back home.
