- 0:02Many spiritual practitioners have realized that the external
- 0:05life we customarily lead is a life of illusion and that it is
- 0:11based in a flawed view of reality.
- 0:15This does not mean that our life, existence and action has
- 0:19no real significance, rather that the way we define our lives
- 0:24based on the external focus of the body, life, mind complex is
- 0:29simply inaccurate and leads us to draw incomplete and
- 0:34inaccurate conclusions. Some of the spiritual paths use
- 0:38this starting point of the illusory nature of the world to
- 0:42suggest that we abandoned that world and take up a sole focus
- 0:46on the realization of our spiritual reality and truth of
- 0:50existence. They in effect ask those who
- 0:54heed the call of the Spirit to deny the outer life's demands,
- 0:59minimize their needs, and spend time in focus on that deeper
- 1:03truth and reality of our existence.
- 1:07Other spiritual paths, however, recognize that the Spirit is not
- 1:11divorced from the external world of matter, life, and mind, and
- 1:16that we must therefore find a way to integrate our spiritual
- 1:20purpose with our external lives. This is only possible because
- 1:26there is Oneness that, while hidden in the background during
- 1:30the development and growth of the material vital and mental
- 1:33principles of the Manifestation, still remains a reality.
- 1:40This Oneness remains known and intact through the medium of the
- 1:43soul and the growth of the psychic being or soul presence.
- 1:48As the evolution of consciousness proceeds, the role
- 1:52of the soul is to develop the external being and preparing it
- 1:57for a direct and complete expression of the Divine truth
- 2:01of existence. This process is one that takes
- 2:04place over time as a growth and maturation process and as the
- 2:10body, life, mind complex becomes ready to express the light,
- 2:14power and Ananda of the Divine. The soul also continues to gain
- 2:20in maturity, power of action and ability to express its focus
- 2:26through those instruments of the outer nature, Sri Aurobindo
- 2:31notes Quote The psychic part of us is something that comes
- 2:36direct from the divine and is in touch with the divine in its
- 2:40origin. It is the nucleus, pregnant with
- 2:43divine possibilities, that supports this lower triple
- 2:47manifestation of mind, life and body.
- 2:51There is this divine element in all living beings, but it stands
- 2:55hidden behind the ordinary. Consciousness is not at first
- 3:00developed, and even when developed is not always or often
- 3:06in the front. It expresses itself so far as
- 3:10the imperfection of the instruments allows.
- 3:13By their means and under their limitations, it grows in the
- 3:18consciousness by God word experience, gaining strength
- 3:22every time there is a higher movement in US.
- 3:25And finally, by the accumulation of these deeper and higher
- 3:29movements, there has developed a psychic individuality, that
- 3:34which we usually call the psychic being.
- 3:38It is always this psychic being that is the real, though often
- 3:44the secret, cause of man's turning to the spiritual life
- 3:48and his greatest help in it. It is therefore that which we
- 3:52have to bring from behind to the front in the Yoga end.
