- 0:01Intro: Yeah, they're dead.
- 0:01They're all messed up.
- 0:07You wouldn't give her that flower, would you?
- 0:09One of us, one of us, one of us, one of us.
- 0:14No, be afraid.
- 0:15Be very afraid.
- 0:32Ryan : out.
- 0:34Kearns: He's the Van Helsing style guy.
- 0:36Ryan : uh,
- 0:36Kearns: that it?
- 0:37Ryan : like Dracula, dead and loving it, uh, he's like his,
- 0:40like, sidekick, his helper.
- 0:43stuff.
- 0:45Kearns: We need a ghoul.
- 0:47Jon: that character in the first one with, um, Nock, the, uh, Hutter's boss.
- 0:54They sort of combined Renfield into that character.
- 0:58Kearns: right.
- 0:59Jon: does a lot, he does a lot of, like, Renfield stuff during the original.
- 1:05guessing they did.
- 1:06I'm guessing they didn't put Renfield in because they were stealing so much
- 1:09Ryan : in,
- 1:10Kearns: Fair.
- 1:11Jon: he's
- 1:13Yeah, and he's
- 1:13he's he's in he's in the um, Werner Herzog one too,
- 1:18but less significantly.
- 1:22Ryan : I feel like you need a good Renfield in order to make it go whole.
- 1:25Even, like, in the book, when you read Bram Stoker's book, it's like,
- 1:29Renfield's a key piece into it, you know?
- 1:32the diary entries, it's like, you know,
- 1:34Renfield just
- 1:35ate a book, and
- 1:35it's like, He is losing
- 1:39slowly but surely.
- 1:41Jon: nosferatu orlok
- 1:43Kearns: Chewing on the cuticle.
- 1:45Jon: we're calling him, needs that because he can't do it in the day.
- 1:49He needs his
- 1:50Kearns: Yeah.
- 1:51Ghouls were just early forms of slavery,
- 1:54Jon: or late
- 1:55Ryan : that's what it 2024.
- 1:56You just heard a whole bunch about it.
- 1:59And ghouls.
- 2:00You know, I, we were talking about, you know,
- 2:03if they ever had to set up a union or something, definitely
- 2:06Igor would be the head of it.
- 2:07Renfield would be Like the cove captain.
- 2:09nod mean, that's how it'd go.
- 2:12Kearns: Are we unionizing ghouls?
- 2:14First Amazon, now ghouls?
- 2:16Ryan : You can even go with the fallout going on, man.
- 2:18Like they're unionized in the show.
- 2:21Former actors there,
- 2:22Walter Goggins, not to
- 2:24Kearns: I have no idea about a union strike in Fallout.
- 2:27Jon: of ghouls would work.
- 2:28None of them have any independent thoughts.
- 2:33They'd all just wind up doing what their
- 2:34Kearns: The.
- 2:35Ryan : have you seen mean, come on
- 2:38Jon: I mean, sure,
- 2:39Ryan : side to
- 2:41Jon: Renfield needs a dietician to kick his bug habit.
- 2:45Kearns: So these are all nods to show for those listening.
- 2:49This isn't a bit.
- 2:50I am an affable nitwit.
- 2:52I know very little about horror and horror history compared to these two gentlemen.
- 2:58So I'm gonna be asking a lot of clarifying questions.
- 3:00So are these ghoulish characters from the original iterations, entirely?
- 3:04Jon: Shrek version.
- 3:05He is sort of encompassed into a side character named Nock,
- 3:11and out of the movie briefly,
- 3:13Ryan : kind of like a, he's like a mix.
- 3:15He's got like the esque to him, but he's also, um, Thomas Holt's boss,
- 3:20uh, Harker in the Dracula version,
- 3:23Kearns: Okay.
- 3:24Jon: who is, uh,
- 3:25so Hutter in the original is the Harker character, know, and that's
- 3:28sort of another nod to we're stealing and trying not caught.
- 3:33Kearns: Got it.
- 3:33So that's a reference listeners to the fact that Nosferatu is a blatant rip
- 3:37off hell Bram Stoker's Dracula, which is hilarious to me for a lot of reasons.
- 3:44But I do notice there are, there are subtle, subtle imaginative and original
- 3:49things in Nosferatu compared to Dracula.
- 3:52he's ugly as shit.
- 3:53For starters,
- 3:54Ryan : he's literally a rat with wings.
- 3:57like, a
- 3:57Kearns: Yeah,
- 3:59Ryan : iconic image.
- 4:00I mean, it's definitely They took the look of it, um, and he,
- 4:05Kearns: You mean?
- 4:06Yeah, the character Barlow.
- 4:07Ryan : and stuff
- 4:07and that's
- 4:08Kearns: Yeah.
- 4:08Ryan : Trex, Count Orlok.
- 4:11Kearns: Oh yeah, big time.
- 4:11There's a few different ones too, and I guess they went that way because
- 4:14they wanted more of a monster, less of a Don Juan, because Dracula
- 4:18in, in a lot of ways, iterations, especially today, is like out of a
- 4:23telenovela with the greased back hair and everything, he comes in, Maria,
- 4:28Jon: He's a
- 4:28Kearns: stuff like that.
- 4:30I like Nosferatu's, like, way.
- 4:32Yeah, exactly.
- 4:33And I mean, that's the way it's supposed to be, in a lot of ways, but
- 4:36Nosferatu does that in, in he has a love interest and it's a lot more rapey
- 4:43and gross.
- 4:44Ryan : well he's he's a, he's a plague.
- 4:46That's why he's so ugly.
- 4:48Um, Like.
- 4:49The long fingers, he's like trying to grab everyone into his grasp.
- 4:53And the thing is, is he's bringing death.
- 4:55And that's what like, I think gravitates a lot of horror fans
- 4:58in this vampire realm, in this realm at least, is he brings death.
- 5:02While Dracula, it's a little, there's a lot of romanticism in it.
- 5:07Because it's like, he falls in love with the women, the women love him, He's got
- 5:11the wives.
- 5:12And it's
- 5:12like, it grows where he's like, Populating vampires and Orlox
- 5:16just killing everyone off.
- 5:17He's
- 5:17like be honest.
- 5:19He's screwed this this this is it
- 5:21man
- 5:22Kearns: And he just goes after it.
- 5:24Jon: wants more vampires And
- 5:25Orlok wants to
- 5:26watch the world burn.
- 5:28Kearns: I mean, that's actually pretty cool distinction between the two.
- 5:32I
- 5:32like that
- 5:34a lot.
- 5:35Jon: that's what he is.
- 5:36He's a destroyer.
- 5:37I
- 5:42Kearns: because because Johnny Depp's daughter is lonely.
- 5:46Is that kind of the beginning premise like it kicks off?
- 5:49She's she's like, I'm so sad and he just pops up.
- 5:52Ryan : So believe they, they're connecting it with and stuff with the new one.
- 5:58Um, Cause it's like, see, like, he's like calling to her and
- 6:03she's like, got this attraction.
- 6:05And especially scene where the, the blood, the tears of blood are falling down.
- 6:09I was just like, it's glued to me because of the fact that it's this,
- 6:13she's seeing whatever's appear.
- 6:15So there's like a it, which again, connected to the Dracula mythos.
- 6:19Um, Connects to the Nosferatu from 1979
- 6:22with Kaczynski.
- 6:24it's a nice, it's a nice, uh, jump plus Eggers.
- 6:29This So he did not want to fluff this up.
- 6:32Kearns: I don't either based on the early reviews, it seems like a lot
- 6:35of, it's funny because people who like Norseman dig this and say that like,
- 6:41you know, it's not, it's not It's not his best work, but it's really good.
- 6:45And then there's the people who like, hate Norsemen,
- 6:47and they have like a rage boner against Lighthouse and stuff like that.
- 6:52They are not fans of this.
- 6:54And I was like, well, of course not.
- 6:55You're, you don't know what art is, you swine.
- 6:59Jon: the and that's got to come up on the on
- 7:01our
- 7:02Kearns: Okay.
- 7:02Jon: some point.
- 7:04Because Cold Skin is,
- 7:07Kearns: It sounds like a,
- 7:08Jon: more bizarre movies you'll see
- 7:10Kearns: it sounds like,
- 7:12okay.
- 7:12Ryan : there's skinning involved
- 7:14Jon: there.
- 7:15Kearns: I was going to say, it sounds like
- 7:17something you'd see on Cinemax at two 30 in the morning.
- 7:19Oh,
- 7:21Jon: minus most of the serve as the main character's slash maybe interest?
- 7:32Kearns: so, all right.
- 7:33I'm getting, I'm getting some good stuff there.
- 7:35Okay.
- 7:36So I can see why that, why lighthouse takes second place, fog, the fog.
- 7:40Ryan : Film.
- 7:41The Fog is
- 7:42Kearns: I was going to say.
- 7:42Ryan : John, uh, John Carpenter.
- 7:45why I was like, skin, skin.
- 7:47know.
- 7:47The Fog does not compare to skin.
- 7:49Skin's got a good premise.
- 7:51Kearns: He's like, I dunno, he's real hit or miss when it comes to certain
- 7:55things and certain like tastes.
- 7:59But this thing looks solid.
- 8:00And from what I'm hearing, some, he took some liberties that may
- 8:05have panned out pretty well.
- 8:06I mean, people are already talking about award season contention.
- 8:10I Skarsgard might get.
- 8:12Best supporting Lily Rose Depp might get Amber Heard as her next stepmother.
- 8:17No, I'm just kidding.
- 8:18She might get an Academy Award for Best Leading Actress in a Horror Film.
- 8:22I don't think that's ever happened.
- 8:24So, those are,
- 8:26Ryan : because like a lot of people don't recognize that in that category and to
- 8:29see it win an academy award, it's just showing how the film industry is changing
- 8:34overall and they're seeing how much like
- 8:37overall different
- 8:38genres are art to see that
- 8:42Jon: you'll.
- 8:44Kearns: Shape of, one to really kick the door open with that.
- 8:47Jon: silence of the lambs.
- 8:48I don't believe silence of the lambs is a horror movie But you get people that.
- 8:52do you got a jodie
- 8:55Kearns: was in red dragon as the reporter.
- 8:57I can't think of his name right now.
- 8:58It's driving me crazy.
- 9:00you.
- 9:00All right.
- 9:00so I'm going to get roll now.
- 9:02So it's Christmas Eve and we're wrapping presents, getting everything
- 9:05finished up and everything.
- 9:06I, I threw on red dragon cause that's like comfort food for me.
- 9:09So it's Kim looks up while she's putting together Charlie's present
- 9:15over there in the corner of the room.
- 9:16It's like this whole little kitchenette thing.
- 9:18It's like a mini apartment.
- 9:19It's probably nicer than most studios in New York city.
- 9:22And,
- 9:23And Philip fire going down the street and she's like, what are it's Christmas?
- 9:27What are you doing?
- 9:29And I was like, I don't know.
- 9:30I just like, like it
- 9:31Jon: a Christmas movie.
- 9:33Kearns: so yeah, I can't believe I forgot.
- 9:34I forgot about about silence of the lambs
- 9:37Jon: big, but I don't consider horror, so it doesn't count.
- 9:40Ryan : That's what I
- 9:41Kearns: Okay.
- 9:41Jon: a
- 9:41thriller, too.
- 9:44Kearns: Shape of water isn't horror either.
- 9:46Jon: a
- 9:46Kearns: to be honest with you.
- 9:49Yeah, exactly.
- 9:50You could have made the,
- 9:51I
- 9:51thought that Pan's Labyrinth should have made a bigger
- 9:53splash than it did, obviously.
- 9:55I I'll beat this drum until I die.
- 9:57That one could probably be called horror.
- 10:00But even that's dark fantasy.
- 10:02Horror adjacent fantasy.
- 10:05Yeah.
- 10:06Anyway.
- 10:07Tangent over.
- 10:08Back to the bald vampire guy.
- 10:10Ryan : So, just to say, you know it's gonna be filmed in, uh, it
- 10:13was already filmed in, Dolby Cinema and IMAX, but this is the cool
- 10:16part, it's gonna, it's filmed in
- 10:18select theaters in cool.
- 10:20That granniness,
- 10:21Kearns: Oh, sweet!
- 10:22Ryan : I don't know.
- 10:23I feel like to make it like the lighthouse, I'll say this.
- 10:27I am a big fan of the lighthouse.
- 10:29I love the Lovecraftian, Willem Dafoe's amazing.
- 10:32Um, see the pops in the film when you watch it.
- 10:37if
- 10:37that's the same thing with
- 10:40Jon: Yeah.
- 10:40that was the weird thing about watching the 1922
- 10:43Kearns: Yeah!
- 10:44Jon: on Blu ray, how clean it looks.
- 10:46And it
- 10:47really shouldn't look that clean.
- 10:50Kearns: That's right.
- 10:50Max, Shrek and Isaiah.
- 10:52Do you guys remember the salad fingers guy with the little spoon fingers or whatever?
- 10:56Ryan : salad, was it salad fingers?
- 10:58The soo spoons.
- 11:00I
- 11:01Kearns: Yeah.
- 11:02Jon: was, fingers are the only thing in the costume that was
- 11:05better in the, in Nosferatu the vampire than in the original.
- 11:09They got
- 11:09the fingers right, but the head was too smooth.
- 11:14And the, the, the, well, the
- 11:16Kearns: the head moves
- 11:17too smooth.
- 11:18Jon: round.
- 11:18He's like all kind of messed up.
- 11:20And then Werner Hirsak made it like almost like perfectly round and it
- 11:26doesn't quite work for the character, but the hands and the fingers are better.
- 11:31Ryan : I was going to say the
- 11:32NOS4A2, uh, it's the one.
- 11:37It was directed It's
- 11:39basically
- 11:39Kearns: Fingers matter.
- 11:40Ryan : shot remake It's a shot That remake of the film, uh, with It just looks,
- 11:48it, it, it's not it's not Orlok It's like very moderate if I can say that.
- 11:54Set with pieces.
- 11:56the
- 11:56Jon: 1922 yeah
- 11:58Ryan : You know, like, I don't, I feel like Shrek, um,
- 12:01Kinski, artist had a down pat.
- 12:05I'm curious on how, Skarsgard will look because he looked amazing as Pennywise.
- 12:12Um, being a big Tim Curry fan, stole that
- 12:15show and I, I know he's going To,
- 12:17Kearns: He, he, he crushed it as penny wise.
- 12:19He heavily, heavily supported by CGI,
- 12:23And stuff like that To, to
- 12:25give our nod back to the late great Tim Curry.
- 12:28Jon: Oh,
- 12:28Kearns: But
- 12:28Jon: Yeah, you killed Tim Curry
- 12:31Kearns: Oh, Jesus.
- 12:32Yeah.
- 12:34It was Kearns in the office with the idiots.
- 12:39Shit.
- 12:41That was a Clue reference, by the way, people.
- 12:43Ryan : raid us now?
- 12:44Stop!
- 12:46Kearns: Maybe.
- 12:46It would
- 12:48Oh my god.
- 12:49Ryan : Body?
- 12:50Kearns: Tim Curry.
- 12:51Ryan : killed Mr.
- 12:51Body.
- 12:53Kearns: Damn.
- 12:54I didn't know he had a stroke, though.
- 12:55That sucks.
- 12:55Anyway, back to fun stuff.
- 12:57So, Skarsgard.
- 12:59Skarsgård playing, like, all of the movie villains and stuff like that is gonna be,
- 13:04that's gonna be interesting to see what he ends up getting cast in next because
- 13:09if he crushes Orlok, he, he much crushed You know that there's continuous casting.
- 13:14Meanwhile, his brother's being cast in movies where it's like, we need
- 13:17your pecs to be oiled up immediately
- 13:20and you have to kill other Northmen.
- 13:22Ryan : vampirism runs in the family.
- 13:23Cause uh, what do you call it?
- 13:24Um, uh, Skarsgard his brother, uh, was Eric Northman
- 13:29and true blood, funny enough
- 13:31Kearns: He's the lesser Skarsgard.
- 13:33He played Randall Flagg
- 13:34into the ground in the
- 13:35remake of The Stand the TV show, did the worst Flagg.
- 13:38Ryan : that.
- 13:39Kearns: He was so bad.
- 13:40Ryan : Cause it's like the
- 13:42Skarsgards always need one.
- 13:45It's like the
- 13:45Baldwin There's always one.
- 13:48Jon: Yeah,
- 13:50Kearns: I'd say Bill's good.
- 13:51Yeah,
- 13:51Jon: Howards, uh, Clint Howard is
- 13:53far and away the superior Howard.
- 13:57Ron is like the lesser
- 13:58Howard.
- 13:59Kearns: I mean, I can't argue with that.
- 14:01Ryan : I agree with that.
- 14:02I do like Clint Howard.
- 14:04Kearns: the guy who raises his hand a lot in class.
- 14:07It's the teacher to like him.
- 14:08He's like, I'll be a director.
- 14:10Jon: at the end of class when everyone just wants to leave and it's like,
- 14:13Okay, does anybody have any questions before we dismiss and his hand goes up
- 14:18and You want to kick him in the ass?
- 14:21Kearns: He's like, you forgot about the homework that we were supposed to hand in.
- 14:25And then like, everybody's going to kick his ass later.
- 14:27That's Ron Howard
- 14:29Jon: ha.
- 14:29Kearns: Ron Howard is slowly transforming into Clint Howard by looks.
- 14:34I've noticed that like his face, they look like that dinosaur with the hard
- 14:38head when I don't know what it's called.
- 14:41They smash heads together.
- 14:42Both of them look like that now.
- 14:44Ryan : But Clint's always looked like that.
- 14:46He still looks the same Ron as you're saying Ron's involved
- 14:48especially in that happy day skit He's just a total version of him.
- 14:52It's just it's scary.
- 14:54just scary actually watching Clint Howard came up on my Instagram.
- 14:58It was from silent night deadly night for I did not know, I did not know he was in
- 15:04on it, and he just walks in on a couple,
- 15:08TV, to watch a killer Santa Claus, and it's just like, it's a horrible line,
- 15:13Jon: Silent Night, Deadly four diminishing
- 15:16Kearns: that's what he does.
- 15:18Ryan : Yes.
- 15:18Kearns: God, so Bill Skarsgård is the younger brother, I think,
- 15:22or he just feels that way.
- 15:23Oh, he is the younger brother.
- 15:27I do think he's more talented, but him coming in with the Pennywise voice.
- 15:31That's what really sold Pennywise was
- 15:34the
- 15:34Skarsgård who's going to do the Pennywise impression for everybody.
- 15:39Jon: I don't
- 15:40Kearns: Georgie
- 15:41pulls that out,
- 15:43Ryan : Georgie.
- 15:44Kearns: trademark infringement.
- 15:46Now it just sounds like Yoda.
- 15:48Ryan : like Georgie, know, I don't know, Tim Kerr.
- 15:52I got
- 15:52Kearns: That's better.
- 15:53Ryan : down got the
- 15:55high
- 15:56Kearns: Yeah.
- 15:56Skarsgard And now there's going to be no, there's going to be no lines in
- 16:00Nosferatu for Skarsgard that doesn't necessarily make it an easy gig, right?
- 16:04But he doesn't, he's probably not going to speak.
- 16:06I don't think Oh, well of course he did in the Herzog one.
- 16:11I hope
- 16:12Ryan : it was, it
- 16:14Jon: Oh man,
- 16:14Kearns: damnit.
- 16:16I hope it was Herzog's Voice
- 16:19Jon: oil and water, man, they made some great movies together.
- 16:22but,
- 16:22I found this movie, but, um, was the star again.
- 16:26They worked together like five times.
- 16:28and he's quit and quit.
- 16:30So finally Werner Herzog threatened to shoot him eight times
- 16:35Kearns: eight
- 16:36that, see, it's the specificity
- 16:38Jon: gonna shoot you eight times and then myself once That's how that's how
- 16:44Kearns: That's pretty good.
- 16:45Jon: was But
- 16:48Ryan : I'm gonna
- 16:49Kearns: That's amazing.
- 16:50Ryan : then shoot myself.
- 16:52can I
- 16:53Kearns: Herzog
- 16:54tells you
- 16:55Jon: that's just like There's about how big a pain in the ass Kensey
- 16:59was to work with on top of all his outside of movie scumbagness.
- 17:04was,
- 17:05you know, so
- 17:07Kearns: Oh yeah.
- 17:08Ryan : was
- 17:08a
- 17:09Jon: Go ahead, Ryan.
- 17:10Ryan : say Vampire and
- 17:11Jon: Mm hmm.
- 17:13Mm hmm.
- 17:14So,
- 17:14um, he was making a
- 17:15movie in 86 for a producer named Roberto
- 17:18Bessio, who Wanted to fire him and was
- 17:23told by the by the movie company.
- 17:25You can't fire kinski That's why we're making this movie because we want
- 17:28him That's how awful was to work with
- 17:31Kearns: Oh wow.
- 17:33I
- 17:34mean, I can sympathize
- 17:38Jon: but like It's just
- 17:41Kearns: we've all
- 17:44Jon: I kind of want that on my tombstone,
- 17:46Kearns: Remember that just in case.
- 17:49Ryan : the characters portrayed.
- 17:51Kearns: If I go first, though, john, I'm stealing it and there's
- 17:53not gonna because you can't do anything about it at that point.
- 17:56Jon: seen, will
- 17:59Kearns: All right.
- 18:00So you guys have seen both films the original, the remake, the remaster of
- 18:06the original counts as the original, and then the max Shrek, right?
- 18:10So I'm the only one who's actually seen footage
- 18:13Ryan : in?
- 18:15Kearns: I did a little bit.
- 18:16So for the people listening, I I went with my wife and two boys to see Sonic three,
- 18:20which is a riveting film, a riveting film.
- 18:23It basically ripped off.
- 18:25alert.
- 18:26And it's a total ripoff of like all of the plotlines from Dragon Ball Z movies,
- 18:31specifically movies, not like of it, but my wife made me shut up about it.
- 18:35She's like, stop talking about this topic.
- 18:38So I went out.
- 18:39Well, I wasn't sitting next to her.
- 18:41This was after the movie on the ride home, which is ready to kill me.
- 18:46So I leave the theater.
- 18:49I leave the theater to go to the bathroom quote, quote, and I walked right in and
- 18:54I walked pivotal point in the movie.
- 18:56It's visually appealing to say the least it's it's color, but it black and white.
- 19:02They and so expertly well, and it puts such a Bleak, bleak atmosphere together.
- 19:08And Willem Dafoe's character was on screen a bit there standing like awkwardly in
- 19:12the corner, like not unlike Orlok maybe.
- 19:17And job.
- 19:18Yeah.
- 19:18Just like, yes, for research for the podcast.
- 19:23And he does it, he's.
- 19:24He's like a when he's on screen, you just have to stare at him the costume design,
- 19:28the way the way he speaks in the film,
- 19:30you're just on him the whole time.
- 19:32it looks really good.
- 19:34Ryan : from what you saw?
- 19:35Cause I was getting with.
- 19:37Kearns: It's not, yeah, he's very science y.
- 19:40So yeah, he's like the only one, you know, the trope is he's like, to be
- 19:44the only living human who knows about vampires and he just goes into like
- 19:49how every little bit of lore you might know from these things whatnot, But
- 19:52that's not really what I was seeing.
- 19:54This is mostly.
- 19:57But that is the vibe his character was giving off for sure.
- 20:00Like the dude who doesn't deserve to live through the third act kind
- 20:03of thing because he knows too much.
- 20:06It'd be too boring.
- 20:08But yeah, I was like, I'm gonna make them jealous.
- 20:10I came to whipping out the foam, but then I was like No, to upkeep.
- 20:14Ryan : was, I was
- 20:15Kearns: I won't do it.
- 20:15Ryan : like, yeah, I found a seat.
- 20:17I sat there, they were was.
- 20:19I said, give me a minute, watch the whole film.
- 20:24Kearns: I was gone for like 10 minutes.
- 20:26And I was I was on a candy mission.
- 20:28And the thing that brought me to To the idea was that it was our
- 20:31people in the concession line.
- 20:33um, and then I came out and I was like, all right, okay.
- 20:36I see some, some gauges and ears and some odd piercings and these are
- 20:41my nosferatu So I just walked in.
- 20:43Jon: you very much.
- 20:52So, uh, you can also jump to and I've just started uh, a new project called
- 21:06And then back to my and I'm and I'm going to show you what it looks like.
- 21:21Okay.
- 21:47Ryan : And,
- 21:48Jon: Okay.
- 22:02Kearns: You can't cast him as a German.
- 22:04Ryan : Hood with a British
- 22:05Kearns: It's just,
- 22:06right.
- 22:07It's insane.
- 22:08Ryan : say
- 22:09Kearns: Carrie Elwes.
- 22:10Ryan : Kyr,
- 22:10in this
- 22:11film too, as well, by the way.
- 22:12If you're not familiar with Udo Kyr, he's in a
- 22:15great
- 22:15movie called Blade.
- 22:17It's an action film.
- 22:18I don't know if you guys
- 22:19agree action film,
- 22:21Jon: It's not a horror movie.
- 22:24It's not a horror movie.
- 22:26Kearns: Blade is a hundred percent an action movie.
- 22:29Yeah.
- 22:30The soundtrack is pure techno.
- 22:33It's pure techno.
- 22:34It has to be an action movie.
- 22:37I remember I used to run to the frigging blood rave scene music
- 22:41on like, it would go into like limp biscuits, Fred Durst crap.
- 22:47Like, Oh my God.
- 22:48I remember that like it was yesterday blade.
- 22:50So who does he play in blade?
- 22:52The beardy bunch.
- 22:52Ryan : Udokir, he plays one of the high vampires where has
- 22:56him him
- 22:57Kearns: of course.
- 22:57Ryan : in the sun's coming up.
- 22:58He's like, you're going to feel the heat to be your first time
- 23:02and it'll be your last time.
- 23:03Just great writing.
- 23:04I, I, I mean, I, I got a heart special
- 23:07place in my heart for Blade on that one.
- 23:10Kearns: Career defining role.
- 23:11I like when when Stephen Dorff turns into a big pimple and pops at the end.
- 23:15That's fun.
- 23:16Ryan : best one is the part with the UV light vampire,
- 23:21they
- 23:21Kearns: Oh yeah.
- 23:23Ryan : me.
- 23:23He's like, you're on your own, have
- 23:25fun.
- 23:26just lights them up.
- 23:28Kearns: Blade was iconic, but yeah, John's rights.
- 23:31I mean,
- 23:32there's so much stuff that flirts with horror, that tries to cherry
- 23:35pick all the good out of horror, but appeal to other fans, and I
- 23:38have no problem with genre bending, especially in writing, but with movies,
- 23:44It's hard to pull off.
- 23:46Ryan : Cause there's, there's always that talk
- 23:48on it.
- 23:49Like what's vampire.
- 23:50What's not vampire.
- 23:51Like Nosferatu, right?
- 23:53It's a horror film, but then you look at Dracula.
- 23:55Dracula is definitely a horror film, but
- 23:58some people like
- 23:59Francis Ford Coppola's one consider.
- 24:02in its
- 24:03own line
- 24:04Jon: I I, think when you're
- 24:06putting
- 24:06Kearns: It's tricky.
- 24:07Jon: in front of horror, like romantic horror, probably not horror anymore.
- 24:15Kearns: no, that's like the, the has kind of thing.
- 24:18year old centaur pushed her up against the tree and all the housewives are
- 24:22like, Ooh, it's fantasy And it's, it's porn, But blade is an action movie.
- 24:29Nosferatu is definitely a horror movie.
- 24:32I can definitely stand by that.
- 24:33Though,
- 24:34that it's gonna go a little light.
- 24:36It's gonna, be like, the marker is almost gonna, there's a lot of
- 24:39exposition in this, based on the reviews, and I think there's not
- 24:43gonna be a lot of traditional scaries.
- 24:45Jon: thing I'm most having seen it, is the runtime.
- 24:50The original, the original Nosferatu,
- 24:52Kearns: yeah.
- 24:52Jon: Yeah, the original Nosferatu is 95 minutes.
- 24:55Granted, There's no talking.
- 24:58There's
- 24:58Kearns: Depp, she's in a lot of, a lot of the film.
- 25:01So that probably is the case that hers, she's got to have an existential crisis.
- 25:05She's got to fall in love, fall out of love.
- 25:07She's got to, and all those things probably have to happen.
- 25:11She probably got a
- 25:12bit,
- 25:13Ryan : the,
- 25:13Kearns: right?
- 25:13Somebody has got to get bit.
- 25:14Ryan : Hutter through all of the Nosferatu, she's the character
- 25:18is the key to the whole thing.
- 25:21she's the key to Nosferatu, not just, just in general for
- 25:25everything that's occurring.
- 25:26And I mean, her growth as the character is in it.
- 25:31I feel like it's going to focus on that, but like Robert
- 25:34Eggert is very like cinematic.
- 25:37He loves like those big shots,
- 25:39like thinking of the lighthouse.
- 25:40It was like a lot of still shots here, there,
- 25:42and developing slowly, but surely.
- 25:44And I think that's what
- 25:46time is dedicated
- 25:47Jon: hmm.
- 25:48Ryan : know, there's a lot, you know, there will be a lot of
- 25:50exposition,
- 25:50but then it's going to be like a wide shot of London you know, and
- 25:55that pull in or the castle and just like scenes and stuff just to
- 25:59build up that horror.
- 26:01Along
- 26:01with the cinematic music in it,
- 26:02school style.
- 26:04Jon: Yeah, but too long.
- 26:07Yeah,
- 26:09Kearns: be.
- 26:10like, yeah, great explanation.
- 26:11It's too long.
- 26:12Um, you're like, I, I understand why it could be too long, but it's too long.
- 26:18Jon: be doing something really special to keep my attention over two hours.
- 26:23Kearns: I mean,
- 26:25fair.
- 26:26That's fair.
- 26:26Especially these days too.
- 26:27It's getting in one sitting and I was so proud of myself.
- 26:30Jon: because I, know in one sitting, and I don't like watching movies in
- 26:36settings.
- 26:37Ryan : in
- 26:37two years, we're going to have an epic with Christopher Nolan's, the odyssey in
- 26:412026 or technically,
- 26:44I mean,
- 26:44the odyssey is going to be four hours long.
- 26:47No, one's going to be like sitting
- 26:49in theaters for
- 26:51Jon: You have to have, you have to go back to the days of an intermission.
- 26:55movie
- 26:56in a,
- 26:57a with an intermission.
- 26:59Kearns: Maybe which wouldn't be a bad idea.
- 27:01Braveheart wasn't Braveheart.
- 27:03Like four hours plus it was two of VHS tapes.
- 27:07Yeah.
- 27:09Wow.
- 27:11I want to get into ageism here.
- 27:14But when did the right stuff come out?
- 27:17Jon: 83, 84 ish?
- 27:20Kearns: Ryan wasn't born yet
- 27:22Jon: No.
- 27:23Kearns: was not yet born.
- 27:25And I was I was is swaddled
- 27:28with just out.
- 27:30The John.
- 27:33Wow,
- 27:35Jon: Yep.
- 27:36Kearns: there was a, there's a local movie theater And it's super easy to
- 27:39sneak walk in and just open the back door.
- 27:41Jon: It, at that point.
- 27:44Definitely shame though.
- 27:46Kearns: So we're pumped about Nosferatu coming out.
- 27:50What's coming down the pipe that you guys are excited about?
- 27:53Jon: So I'll rep the shirt.
- 27:55They're competing return to the living dead movies coming.
- 28:00Yeah.
- 28:01Kearns: Oh
- 28:01sweet.
- 28:03Jon: that's one seems to be, homage to the original and the other one
- 28:08seems to be just else trying to do it too, you know, there's a,
- 28:14Kearns: Okay.
- 28:15No rules, baby.
- 28:17Ryan : or,
- 28:18I'm just saying Living Dead, Nosferatu, all that, and it's remaking or as well
- 28:23Jon: yeah, Okay.
- 28:30Okay.
- 28:35Okay.
- 28:40Kearns: about that.
- 28:41It wasn't the greatest movie in the world, but you know what it was?
- 28:44It was new.
- 28:47It was new.
- 28:48I'm not letting him in anywhere, dude.
- 28:51I was terrified when he was, he was bouncing around in the yard.
- 28:56I didn't need the twist.
- 28:57I didn't need to know any of the other crap that was going on.
- 29:00Ryan : barbarian and just like going to Wisconsin and going
- 29:03to like a BNB and Airbnb and
- 29:05seeing barbarian.
- 29:06Yeah.
- 29:07That like, doors on That,
- 29:08Kearns: Yeah, that's a good one too.
- 29:10That's a good one.
- 29:11, the hills have eyes.
- 29:12Kind of vibe.
- 29:13It felt vibey a little bit.
- 29:16, but it was a pretty original idea.
- 29:17It's based on a true story.
- 29:20account of a, a man who was living in the walls of a house and
- 29:24terrorizing the family, two daughters.
- 29:26And yeah, it was for a long time too.
- 29:27behind the, he was, like behind the dryer.
- 29:30There was a way for him to get in and he was, he was, planning on killing them.
- 29:35And he even revealed himself police like didn't believe him.
- 29:37They staked house, but he was still in the house.
- 29:39It was nuts.
- 29:40It's a nutty story.
- 29:41I forget the, I probably need to give the fan something on
- 29:44that one, but it's a, it's a Mr.
- 29:46Ballin.
- 29:46We'll just throw one, throw one out there.
- 29:48Mr.
- 29:48Ballin has a review on it or something on the YouTube there.
- 29:52But what I'm excited about Is since we're talking about fast
- 29:55moving, angry things, cause we're not going to call them zombies.
- 29:58We're going to go over this in a future episode, but 28
- 30:01years later coming out soon.
- 30:03I'm actually excited about that.
- 30:04And only because I want to see how they decide to get this thing off that island.
- 30:10Is it going to be the angriest ship boat captain ever?
- 30:13Ryan : I Feel like Killian Murphy's got that, vibe.
- 30:16He's got a cool vibe.
- 30:18Kearns: he's got a good bitch face.
- 30:20Resting bitch face, I should say.
- 30:22You ever see him look at the royal family?
- 30:26You would think if an actor would hide it better.
- 30:29Yeah, he's an Irishman who's not happy
- 30:32Jon: Yeah.
- 30:33Kearns: treatment of Ireland.
- 30:36All right.
- 30:36Rapid fire question for you to, Skarsgård down with a bad case of diabetes and
- 30:40he couldn't be in Nosferatu movie.
- 30:43Who would you cast instead?
- 30:45Christopher Waltz
- 30:48Ryan : actor.
- 30:48He is the Dr.
- 30:49Schultz from Django Django Unchained with,
- 30:53also from, I was gonna say Inglorious Bastards, man.
- 30:57That's where
- 30:57Kearns: There you go.
- 30:59That'll do it
- 30:59Ryan : his evilness from that
- 31:01Kearns: Yeah, he's the, he's the angry German who kills everybody at the
- 31:04beginning of Inglourious Bastards.
- 31:06I'm sure I'll throw a picture of him up on the screen for you guys,
- 31:08but nobody knows this guy's name.
- 31:10He's like one of the best living actors probably.
- 31:12And
- 31:12Ryan : smoking a pipe that's like that big ass pipe from the beginning, with the
- 31:17makeup, just the pointy ears, like, no,
- 31:21no, she's got the accent already.
- 31:22Kearns: Okay, okay.
- 31:24Jon: Howard Thornton from Terrifier.
- 31:26Kearns: Terrifier reference.
- 31:27Of course, it couldn't be an episode without a Terrifier reference.
- 31:31That was a quick rundown of Nosferatu 2024 from three guys who haven't seen it yet,
- 31:38which is probably good for you guys because we can't spoil
- 31:41it we'll probably reference it
- 31:42and what we thought about it in our next episode or maybe one further down the line
- 31:46Until then, we hope you guys enjoyed hearing us talk about how much we love
- 31:50all things horror, and don't forget to go out and watch Nosferatu 2024.
- 31:54Let us know what you think.
- 31:57Jon: See ya!
