- 0:29Speaker 3: On Jane My Heart Jane, because you don't let me
- 0:35Speaker 3: no more every time I call you on the phone.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Rapper.
- 0:51Speaker 4: We did everything to get Locky singing there. But welcome
- 0:59Speaker 4: to the to the bonus episode of the Shed, Darren,
- 1:02Speaker 4: lock you with us.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Welcome Lockie nervous.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I don't know what to expect.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Yeah, now you bet your your company has been sponsored
- 1:16Speaker 4: the of the party this last week in Queensland ber Co. Yes,
- 1:19Speaker 4: so this is this is new for you. I know
- 1:21Speaker 4: you've been in the pubs and clubs and stuff before,
- 1:23Speaker 4: but this is the first time getting into the Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 5: So there's a few guys I know my business network
- 1:28Speaker 5: that have sort of went away and bought a few
- 1:31Speaker 5: little small independent craft brewers and they've always had a
- 1:36Speaker 5: bit of ambition to come together and create a new brand,
- 1:40Speaker 5: which which is queens and Bak. So that was established
- 1:43Speaker 5: this year and between my Channel nine connections and getting
- 1:48Speaker 5: Wally JT Cam and myself.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Involved sort of put a bit of a face to
- 1:54Speaker 1: the brand.
- 1:54Speaker 3: And I got the hat on too London thanks for
- 1:58Speaker 3: the support.
- 1:58Speaker 4: That's how they gone to London. Broncos Yet so what they.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Won by one hundred and thirty something.
- 2:05Speaker 5: So when we first took over there, we were recruiting
- 2:09Speaker 5: to go into the Super League, and so all the Championship,
- 2:12Speaker 5: which is the second tier teams, they're all part time,
- 2:14Speaker 5: so we're our squad is full time and hence the
- 2:18Speaker 5: reason why there's some big scores at the moment.
- 2:20Speaker 1: We well, that's the plan.
- 2:24Speaker 6: You find out this year. Is that how it all works?
- 2:27Speaker 5: Find out the next couple of months. I reckon basically
- 2:30Speaker 5: there's a bit. There's a few moving parts. The NRL
- 2:34Speaker 5: going or investing in the Super League is one of
- 2:36Speaker 5: those things that we don't know if that's going to happen.
- 2:39Speaker 5: I think if it does, that'll be awesome for the
- 2:41Speaker 5: game over there.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I do think the Northern Hemisphere needs a bit of.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Needs investment, but also probably needs the expertise of the
- 2:50Speaker 5: NAREL to take it to the next level.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I do think the international game rugby League is the
- 2:54Speaker 1: final frontier.
- 2:56Speaker 5: If we get the Northern Hemisphere competitions really strong and
- 3:00Speaker 5: we go to an ASHER series and we don't know
- 3:02Speaker 5: if England's going to be Australia and vice versa outcome.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Man, I believe the Vegas thing. I think we should
- 3:11Speaker 3: that should be in the in the UK a few
- 3:15Speaker 3: years back.
- 3:17Speaker 6: That's how they should do it. That's where they should
- 3:18Speaker 6: do it because I think that's the true fans and
- 3:22Speaker 6: I believe if they take it there for and help
- 3:24Speaker 6: the part of the Super League, I think that would
- 3:27Speaker 6: it'd be way better. I truly believe you'd get true
- 3:30Speaker 6: crowd like true supporters, bigger crowds, and it'd be it'd
- 3:34Speaker 6: be under, be under, and I think that would grow
- 3:37Speaker 6: our game.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Yeah, Peters, he's been very vocal about London especially so
- 3:43Speaker 5: he knows that it's a it's a world city, which
- 3:45Speaker 5: it is, and if they can get a strong rugby
- 3:48Speaker 5: league team there, then that's only going to be benefiting
- 3:52Speaker 5: the game. And so taking an opening round to London,
- 3:55Speaker 5: which I think that's been talked about, I think it
- 3:59Speaker 5: makes sense.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think it was about ten thousand vans
- 4:03Speaker 2: traveled from the UK for that opening thousand.
- 4:09Speaker 1: The trick.
- 4:10Speaker 5: Trick is keeping the UK fans in the stadium because.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah they come early, they leave. Yeah, they definitely.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Did take it with the song and everything.
- 4:19Speaker 6: Yeah, and it's it's against I think that's what it'll
- 4:22Speaker 6: be unreal like being a part of that was so
- 4:25Speaker 6: buddy cool.
- 4:26Speaker 3: The songs, it was cool like that.
- 4:28Speaker 6: Yeah, the way that they bring the I think the
- 4:31Speaker 6: passion to the games and their songs.
- 4:34Speaker 2: And opening around at Wembley would be absolutely incredible.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it would be big for the game.
- 4:38Speaker 5: But again, the atmosphere they can create, like I think
- 4:43Speaker 5: when I toured for the Kangaroos, you you did too soon,
- 4:46Speaker 5: did you?
- 4:48Speaker 3: No? I didn't say that to me.
- 4:52Speaker 6: I didn't make that train on Square.
- 4:57Speaker 3: The Panthers made that team.
- 5:01Speaker 6: His dad was the case and the president.
- 5:06Speaker 5: The atmosphere they incredible, a big atmosphere with the small people.
- 5:10Speaker 1: They just do it really well.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Mate. Origin teams have been announced. You're obviously a part of.
- 5:16Speaker 2: We had Gino on the podcast last week talking about
- 5:20Speaker 2: the selection process.
- 5:21Speaker 1: What was it did Gena say? Did he say if
- 5:23Speaker 1: they lose game on?
- 5:24Speaker 5: It was?
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah he was yeah, yeah, he was trying to pass
- 5:27Speaker 2: the bucket, trying to throw you.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Under the bus, which is always the best. I do
- 5:35Speaker 3: want to praise you.
- 5:36Speaker 2: It was. It was very hard watching you on TV
- 5:38Speaker 2: bye your tongue when you were sitting on the panel
- 5:40Speaker 2: post game doing your analysis with Channel nine. But leading
- 5:44Speaker 2: into game to its fresh start, and then you know
- 5:47Speaker 2: a couple of changes, some through injury force changes. Yeah,
- 5:52Speaker 2: look a couple other inclusions there too. While she's back
- 5:54Speaker 2: into the squad. Yeah, so while she comes in for
- 5:57Speaker 2: ezra Yea his play.
- 5:58Speaker 5: So yeah, I think the I won't say the risk,
- 6:01Speaker 5: but the conundrum might be if we get an injury
- 6:04Speaker 5: to six or seven, who goes in to replace them?
- 6:06Speaker 5: But Bill, you'll have a plan. We talked briefly about
- 6:10Speaker 5: it on Sunday night. But yeah, he's he's well prepared, Bill.
- 6:14Speaker 5: And then Paddy Carrigan is injured so.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Comes into the team.
- 6:20Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, I can't get enough down my lungs.
- 6:29Speaker 5: But that's that's a good outcomfort for him. He has
- 6:32Speaker 5: been on the fringes for a while. I really rate
- 6:37Speaker 5: Christian Wolf as a coach, and the Dolphins are flying
- 6:39Speaker 5: at the moment, so they come in, come into the
- 6:40Speaker 5: team with good habits.
- 6:41Speaker 6: Was Tommy Gilbert.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Consider any consideration?
- 6:45Speaker 6: And I've looked at this boat for a big red
- 6:48Speaker 6: Corey horse, have one red yeah, like for like if
- 6:53Speaker 6: you Tommy, Yeah, the third it's a it's a redead
- 6:58Speaker 6: for a redhead. But the how those boats are they
- 7:00Speaker 6: on the.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Well, yeah, they definitely discussed.
- 7:04Speaker 5: I think I think Bill, you know, it's pretty keen
- 7:06Speaker 5: to get Reuben back into the middle and then get
- 7:09Speaker 5: a bit of punch on the edges. So Nico gets
- 7:11Speaker 5: to start on one edge like he's got a big guy,
- 7:14Speaker 5: but he's very mobile and that's a good line. And
- 7:17Speaker 5: then you know, I would come on at some point
- 7:20Speaker 5: in the game and you know he's damaging.
- 7:22Speaker 1: On the edges.
- 7:24Speaker 4: You are someone that transitioned from full back to a
- 7:26Speaker 4: five eighth really easily. It looked easy anyway, So do
- 7:30Speaker 4: you reckon in the event that we needed to play
- 7:33Speaker 4: in that in that middles, that's something he's ready to do.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Well.
- 7:38Speaker 5: I think he'll get some reps at training if that's
- 7:40Speaker 5: what Bill's thinking. But if it's not, if it's not
- 7:42Speaker 5: Reese playing in the halves, it.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Could be Kayleb.
- 7:46Speaker 5: And I look, you know this is a smoky but
- 7:48Speaker 5: even as an outside you know, like Max.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Plath could play.
- 7:52Speaker 5: You know, you know he's got he can, so that
- 7:58Speaker 5: there will be some backup options there and I'm sure
- 8:00Speaker 5: Billy will give everyone.
- 8:01Speaker 1: A few reps.
- 8:02Speaker 4: The decision has probably been the most controversial of more
- 8:07Speaker 4: just because he wasn't picked, I guess on form and
- 8:10Speaker 4: the Broncos are still not in form.
- 8:12Speaker 2: So what.
- 8:14Speaker 4: We all know that we're all crying in front of
- 8:17Speaker 4: our TVs on the weekend. So yeah, so what what changed?
- 8:22Speaker 1: Look?
- 8:22Speaker 5: I think I do think Reese since he's come back
- 8:25Speaker 5: from his injury, has gotten better each week. Like I
- 8:27Speaker 5: felt the first time in a little while since he
- 8:30Speaker 5: came back against the Titans, there was a couple of
- 8:33Speaker 5: things that he would have liked to have done better,
- 8:36Speaker 5: but overall, he was chasing the contact and he looked
- 8:40Speaker 5: sharp off the mark. So I think when he's chasing
- 8:44Speaker 5: the contact, you know, if we look back to the Grand.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Final last year, you know he was physical.
- 8:50Speaker 5: And that's when he's playing his best football. So I
- 8:52Speaker 5: think Billy got a bit of confidence out of that.
- 8:54Speaker 5: And look Ezra, I thought when Ezra came onto the
- 8:56Speaker 5: field for the Broncos, and I gave him bit of
- 8:58Speaker 5: a spark as well. So I think it's just you know,
- 9:01Speaker 5: Ezra got a chance game one, Reese gets a chance
- 9:04Speaker 5: game two.
- 9:05Speaker 6: Do you think I actually said this on the show
- 9:08Speaker 6: this morning with Kim about while she that him being
- 9:13Speaker 6: a radio being amongst those boys around, you know, Billy
- 9:21Speaker 6: j C. Just being in that circle again for him,
- 9:26Speaker 6: would it might actually it's good for the Broncos and
- 9:29Speaker 6: bring that back out of him, Like you know, he
- 9:32Speaker 6: is chasing the contest, but I feel like, you know,
- 9:33Speaker 6: I feel like he's a little bit down on self
- 9:35Speaker 6: belief right now and I think going back there, it
- 9:38Speaker 6: might be able to actually reinvent that and and bring it,
- 9:41Speaker 6: bring it back out of him, and it could be
- 9:43Speaker 6: the best thing for the rest of the season for us.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Well, when when a team struggling, and we're talking about
- 9:48Speaker 5: the Broncos right now, probably after the third last, you
- 9:51Speaker 5: start to starts to zap your confidence and every time
- 9:54Speaker 5: you lose another, won't it just goes down again. And
- 9:58Speaker 5: we saw it with Melbourne, right so they would they
- 10:00Speaker 5: lose seven in a row, which is unheard of. So
- 10:03Speaker 5: you know, the talent doesn't change, just what's between the
- 10:06Speaker 5: years and confidence.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Is such a big part of.
- 10:10Speaker 5: A team's form, and so for the Broncos, I thought
- 10:14Speaker 5: maybe the other night when Reynolds kicked the field goal,
- 10:17Speaker 5: that might have been the main where they go back,
- 10:19Speaker 5: but it was only Kenney come up.
- 10:21Speaker 3: With that freaking play.
- 10:23Speaker 1: So you know, I think Billy picking.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Reese obviously is good for his self belief, and I
- 10:30Speaker 5: think obviously Reese looks up to Billy, and Billy, I'm sure,
- 10:33Speaker 5: will do everything he needs to get kaal and prepared,
- 10:36Speaker 5: but he do everything to give Reese the best chance
- 10:39Speaker 5: if he gets stut, if he gets game time, he's
- 10:41Speaker 5: ready to go.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Yeah, do you reckon? What do you think about the
- 10:46Speaker 4: Queensland that the team and how they're going to be
- 10:48Speaker 4: feeling that. You know, most of us believe they sort
- 10:51Speaker 4: of they should have won that first game if there
- 10:53Speaker 4: wasn't some poor decisions, But do you reckon they would
- 10:57Speaker 4: go in with a fair bit of confidence like they
- 10:59Speaker 4: just had to win. Almost.
- 11:01Speaker 5: Look, I think you've got to you've got to accept it.
- 11:04Speaker 5: You said, well, aren't going to play like they did
- 11:06Speaker 5: in the first forty so you know, we don't want to,
- 11:09Speaker 5: Like there's a big The team that wins game one
- 11:13Speaker 5: obviously goes into game to no and they got a
- 11:15Speaker 5: second chance, right, whereas the other team knows that they don't.
- 11:18Speaker 1: It's just they have to win.
- 11:19Speaker 5: So the desperation typically in game two of the team
- 11:23Speaker 5: that has to win is it might be only one
- 11:26Speaker 5: or two percent. But if it's evident on both sides,
- 11:28Speaker 5: one drops intensity a bit and the other one picks
- 11:32Speaker 5: the intensity up, it can be the difference. So that's
- 11:34Speaker 5: why we see so many decide us. It's very hard
- 11:37Speaker 5: to win an Origin game, particularly the first two. It
- 11:41Speaker 5: doesn't happen a lot where one state will win the
- 11:44Speaker 5: first two games because of the mindset in game two, the.
- 11:49Speaker 6: First game to now, you know, with the change the
- 11:51Speaker 6: rules and the way the game's played, now where you see,
- 11:55Speaker 6: do you think will change much with our game plan
- 11:59Speaker 6: or with the way you want to attack it or
- 12:01Speaker 6: keep it simple because it was taken out of our
- 12:04Speaker 6: control in the first game with some decisions. But well
- 12:08Speaker 6: then do you think that it's surprised you in anyway?
- 12:11Speaker 5: Well, look, we look sharp earlier in the game one.
- 12:14Speaker 5: I don't think that will change too much, you know.
- 12:17Speaker 5: I think it was just having the ability to just
- 12:20Speaker 5: continue that for eighty minutes. You know, I think the
- 12:24Speaker 5: game started the turn when you South Wales held on
- 12:26Speaker 5: the footy and we started making a couple of errors, right,
- 12:28Speaker 5: and that's the game, right, you got to hold on
- 12:30Speaker 5: the ball. And so I think that you know, getting
- 12:34Speaker 5: I remember it might have been the decider last year
- 12:37Speaker 5: that we were almost perfect with a footy for eighty minutes.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Right first of the sixtieth minute. Yeah, it was almost perfect.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's that's that's where you probably need to
- 12:47Speaker 5: try and get your head your mindset is that we
- 12:50Speaker 5: need to do that again because if you if you,
- 12:54Speaker 5: I think, if Nathan Cleary gets too much, if he
- 12:57Speaker 5: gets if they complete high and Nathan clear He's got
- 12:59Speaker 5: time and space, it makes our job a lot harder.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Kid going to buddy shape. We really converted all of
- 13:08Speaker 2: our opportunities. But that's what Origin is about, isn't It's
- 13:10Speaker 2: about opportunities and converting those.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 5: Yeah, well the first I think the first four tries
- 13:15Speaker 5: in the first half all came from kicks. Sorry except
- 13:20Speaker 5: for one, but there was this short kicking game because
- 13:23Speaker 5: the fullbacks defending the line so much now and there's
- 13:26Speaker 5: all these sort of trick shots that teams have with
- 13:29Speaker 5: with short kicking game. And Sam Walker's obviously he's pretty
- 13:34Speaker 5: pretty crafty at that must.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Be an I switch thing.
- 13:37Speaker 6: Yeah, but that's Origin, isn't Like you don't see many
- 13:45Speaker 6: of set shapes like these standard blocks and whatnot. It's
- 13:48Speaker 6: off great kicks and your trick plays, Like you know,
- 13:52Speaker 6: I feel like that's when you convert those opportunities. It's
- 13:54Speaker 6: not always off that simple shape, you know. Yeah, if
- 13:57Speaker 6: you know that right, you can maybe get that off defender.
- 13:59Speaker 6: But I feel like the way the game is now,
- 14:02Speaker 6: you know, those trick shots and those perfect kicks are
- 14:04Speaker 6: some important Yeah.
- 14:05Speaker 5: Well execution at the highest level, you've got to get
- 14:08Speaker 5: that right. And they we were really good early. I
- 14:11Speaker 5: mean you look at the winning play from t Desco, right,
- 14:13Speaker 5: that's just that's just an elite player just doing his thing.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Melbourne is not a great place for Queensland. I think
- 14:23Speaker 3: we realized that six and think the last time we
- 14:26Speaker 3: won there was.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Six when when really Yeah, I think I think we've
- 14:35Speaker 2: only won one game at the MCG, which was way
- 14:39Speaker 2: back in nineteen ninety five.
- 14:40Speaker 3: So yeah, it's not a crap. That's a horrible out
- 14:45Speaker 3: of the boys focus.
- 14:46Speaker 1: To that question, well, I think I think you actually,
- 14:51Speaker 1: I think you actually use that as motivation.
- 14:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that that's the challenge, right, you know,
- 14:56Speaker 5: history shows that where we struggle there, But that doesn't
- 14:59Speaker 5: mean that.
- 14:59Speaker 2: This team cana as Perth. Last year game two, same
- 15:02Speaker 2: thing shook that so Billy.
- 15:04Speaker 5: You know, the one thing about Billy is you have
- 15:07Speaker 5: everyone prepped individually and collectively for the game. Obviously, Billy
- 15:11Speaker 5: lives in Melbourne, so you know, I think he'd use
- 15:15Speaker 5: a bit of that experience and part that on the
- 15:18Speaker 5: on the guys. But they know they have to win,
- 15:20Speaker 5: right so they'll be out there, you know, with their
- 15:24Speaker 5: best intensity or their highest intensity.
- 15:26Speaker 1: And hopefully they execute the game plan. If they do
- 15:29Speaker 1: that for eighty minutes and they're a good chance of winning.
- 15:32Speaker 4: You're expecting a lot of points with the you know,
- 15:35Speaker 4: the six again rule, we've been getting more points than
- 15:38Speaker 4: ever in forty.
- 15:38Speaker 3: It was actually pretty good in the first game. First game,
- 15:41Speaker 3: it was just one decision that.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Was well, there was limited six again.
- 15:47Speaker 5: You know, it depends on the referees appetite for them, right,
- 15:50Speaker 5: So it's always been this theory that origins ref differently and.
- 15:54Speaker 1: It is it is they're a bit more lenient.
- 15:56Speaker 5: They want the game to flow, they want to let
- 15:58Speaker 5: the players decide the outcome. So I don't think it'll
- 16:03Speaker 5: be any different in Melbourne, and you know, I'm hoping.
- 16:08Speaker 1: That it's not. Look what was the end scoring Game one.
- 16:12Speaker 5: Twenty twenty, Yes, and I reckon that's about the sweet spot.
- 16:15Speaker 1: That's a good contest.
- 16:18Speaker 5: These blowouts we're seeing at the NFL level, I think
- 16:21Speaker 5: we'll I think we'll start seeing less and less of
- 16:24Speaker 5: them as the players get fitter. I'd rather see a
- 16:28Speaker 5: tight contest that's got a few points on either side
- 16:32Speaker 5: rather than high scoring games.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Yeah, you'll be down there in Melbourne Lockey. You're a
- 16:39Speaker 2: huge part of the selection process. But we all have hope.
- 16:42Speaker 3: But what's your prediction for game two in Melbourne?
- 16:46Speaker 5: Will It's be interesting to see where the Blues land
- 16:49Speaker 5: because there's a few injury clouds there at the moment.
- 16:51Speaker 5: I mean, Casey McLean was he's a handful yea, he.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Is playing in the centers and he's a handful of
- 16:57Speaker 2: the wing. But he's a handful on the wing.
- 17:00Speaker 3: But I thought colder, I thought he was playing, but I.
- 17:05Speaker 6: Thought he was outstanding too, Like you know, I think
- 17:08Speaker 6: it's the first time I've seen that way.
- 17:10Speaker 3: It was not short of selections in that back line.
- 17:13Speaker 5: I think.
- 17:15Speaker 6: Yeah, with MacLean, I'm interested because I thought he had
- 17:17Speaker 6: really hurt his ankle that you know, he got carried off, So.
- 17:21Speaker 5: Yeah, he got cleared, I think, But it's you know,
- 17:23Speaker 5: come back to the old, the old cliche. But the
- 17:27Speaker 5: games weren't in the middle, you know that, So and
- 17:30Speaker 5: paying houses back for the Blues.
- 17:32Speaker 1: So we're going to try and find.
- 17:33Speaker 5: A way to win the momentum through there because we've
- 17:36Speaker 5: got a gun.
- 17:37Speaker 1: And Harry Grant. So if we get some momentum there,
