- 0:04Speaker 1: Perhaps surprisingly, in colonial America, New England ministers played a
- 0:08Speaker 1: key role in rallying popular support for liberty. Helo i'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: ron Edwards on the day's page from the Edwards Notebook.
- 0:18Speaker 1: The New England ministers pressed their congregations to overthrow King
- 0:22Speaker 1: George because, unlike five oh one c three ministers of today,
- 0:26Speaker 1: they believed that rebellion to tyrants was obedience to God.
- 0:30Speaker 1: For many pulpits ministers recruited troops and strengthened them for battle.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Those church leaders understood that the Bible places great emphasis
- 0:37Speaker 1: on due submission to civil authorities, but they also noted
- 0:42Speaker 1: that many passages approved resistance to ungodly authority. It is
- 0:46Speaker 1: therefore no coincidence that one of the watchwords of the
- 0:50Speaker 1: American Revolution was no King but Jesus. Most of the
- 0:53Speaker 1: patriots found in their faith and in God's word, the
- 0:56Speaker 1: courage to risk their own lives and properties in order
- 0:59Speaker 1: to break the tyranny of unjust human authority. According to
- 1:03Speaker 1: their Christian worldview, obedience to God took precedence over loyalty
- 1:07Speaker 1: to country or government. Their primary allegiance was to the
- 1:11Speaker 1: Lord Jesus Christ, the original liberator. I'm run Edwards. Check
- 1:20Speaker 1: out the run Edwards dot com.
