- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, here we go. Welcome, boys and girls. 3.06 in
- 0:02Speaker 1: the afternoon. Ron Ferb, News Radio 570 WKBN, by the way. It's,
- 0:07Speaker 1: what is it, 85 degrees. Not a bad day. In
- 0:11Speaker 1: my neck of the woods, we had a little bit
- 0:12Speaker 1: of rain this morning, but all in all, not too shabby.
- 0:15Speaker 1: A little humid out there. Is it too soon to
- 0:17Speaker 1: complain about the heat and humidity? Probably so, right? But anyway,
- 0:21Speaker 1: it's Tuesday, May 19th, 85 degrees with you till 6
- 0:25Speaker 1: o'clock tonight. Then the Guardians pregame here on NewsRadio 570.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Today will be an interesting day. Tonight should be an
- 0:33Speaker 1: interesting night. This Thomas Massey race in Kentucky, which is
- 0:41Speaker 1: really strange. I mean, it's really strange how Trump has
- 0:45Speaker 1: turned on a lot of his best supporters who supported
- 0:48Speaker 1: him over the years and And he's really just kind
- 0:51Speaker 1: of turned on him. I guess if you don't agree
- 0:53Speaker 1: with Trump 100 percent of the time, then you're no good.
- 0:55Speaker 1: But so there is this is going to be one
- 0:59Speaker 1: of the most, if not the most expensive congressional race ever,
- 1:03Speaker 1: with all kinds of money being poured in from. outside
- 1:07Speaker 1: the district by special interest groups. A lot of people
- 1:09Speaker 1: say from that AIPAC or whatever the Israeli lobbyist group is,
- 1:13Speaker 1: and those folks are really pinpointing Massey. He's against all
- 1:18Speaker 1: foreign aid. Massey is against all foreign aid. He says,
- 1:21Speaker 1: we're a country that's $ 40 trillion in debt, and we
- 1:25Speaker 1: can't afford to be given foreign aid to anybody, which incidentally,
- 1:28Speaker 1: I agree with that. The billions we give to Egypt,
- 1:32Speaker 1: the billions we give to Israel or any other country,
- 1:34Speaker 1: we simply can't afford it as a country being $ 40
- 1:39Speaker 1: trillion in debts. And we continue to hand out all
- 1:42Speaker 1: this money, oblivious to our own lot in life, our
- 1:46Speaker 1: own debts and deficits. So when I hear Massey talk
- 1:49Speaker 1: about the fact he's against all foreign aid, I am too.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Because America first, this is where I live. I'm about America.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Not about giving all these other countries all this money
- 2:00Speaker 1: while we go further in debt and ultimately jeopardize our
- 2:04Speaker 1: own financial future when it comes to Social Security, when
- 2:08Speaker 1: it comes to Medicare, when it comes to many of
- 2:10Speaker 1: the programs that are here that benefit our fellow Americans.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And so I agree with those people that are opposed
- 2:17Speaker 1: to that type of situation. So we will talk about that.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I'm hoping for a G2 appearance today, early, to get
- 2:27Speaker 1: his take. I think it'll be too soon. What'll be
- 2:29Speaker 1: interesting will be a conversation with G2 tomorrow on the
- 2:32Speaker 1: outcome of this Massey thing. So we shall see what
- 2:36Speaker 1: happens here. You're on the air. Hello.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Well, good afternoon, sir. How are you?
- 2:42Speaker 1: It's Rich, the pharmacist. Well, I gotta be pretty good
- 2:45Speaker 1: if I'm starting a Tuesday off with you.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Well, I wouldn't go that far, but we've been talking
- 2:53Speaker 2: a lot about the economy. Yeah, I'm fighting what's going around.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Everybody I know has had it so far. My wife
- 2:59Speaker 2: had it, my son-in-law had it, my granddaughter had it.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I mean, it's just going around.
- 3:03Speaker 1: What is it, a cold or allergies?
- 3:05Speaker 2: No, it's a cold. It's just a good old-fashioned summer cold,
- 3:08Speaker 2: you know, a lot of runniness and congestion. It's probably
- 3:12Speaker 2: COVID-19 or a strain of it, Rich. It's no longer COVID.
- 3:18Speaker 2: It's coldvid. That's basically what it's turned into is a cold.
- 3:22Speaker 2: But everybody's still running in to get their vaccination.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It can be deadly to the elderly, so I'll keep
- 3:28Speaker 1: an eye on you.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Well, I'll keep an eye on you. You've got a
- 3:33Speaker 2: couple more years on you.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 3:35Speaker 1: All right. So what's on your minds?
- 3:37Speaker 2: Well, we've been talking a lot about the economy, so
- 3:40Speaker 2: I kind of just, if I could, want to change
- 3:42Speaker 2: the subject to something that, because I was reading some
- 3:45Speaker 2: Wall Street Journal articles lately and other articles, I think CNBC,
- 3:49Speaker 2: and everybody right now, it's college graduation season, and kids
- 3:53Speaker 2: are getting accepted for next year. And one of the
- 3:56Speaker 2: things that I think is just so overrated is there's
- 4:00Speaker 2: so much focus on these kids getting into their dream schools.
- 4:04Speaker 2: You'll see all these articles, and I mean, mountains, their
- 4:08Speaker 2: parents would spend mountains of money to try to get
- 4:10Speaker 2: their kid into an Ivy League school or a public
- 4:14Speaker 2: Ivy someplace, you know, like I think Miami of Ohio,
- 4:17Speaker 2: they consider a public Ivy or University of Virginia, Duke, Vanderbilt.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And I've always wondered, to see what your opinion is,
- 4:28Speaker 2: some of the listeners are, do you really think it
- 4:30Speaker 2: makes a whole heck of a lot of difference? Because
- 4:33Speaker 2: I think with certain exceptions, I don't think it makes
- 4:37Speaker 2: a darn bit of difference for the most part where
- 4:39Speaker 2: you go to school, especially if you're going to get
- 4:41Speaker 2: a degree where you're going to just go out and
- 4:43Speaker 2: work a normal job. If you're going to be an engineer,
- 4:45Speaker 2: a pharmacist, even doctors, lawyers, well, no, lawyers, Ivy League
- 4:50Speaker 2: opens up doors for you that otherwise aren't open. But
- 4:54Speaker 2: I've never really looked at it. I can honestly say
- 4:56Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever looked at the credentials of
- 4:58Speaker 2: any of the doctors that have treated me. I've never said, hey,
- 5:01Speaker 2: can I see your diploma? What school did you go to?
- 5:04Speaker 2: And then you've got these kids that just spend thousands
- 5:07Speaker 2: and thousands of dollars at schools, these little Division III schools,
- 5:13Speaker 2: because they want to continue their high school athletic career.
- 5:17Speaker 2: They were maybe a decent football, baseball, basketball, whatever athlete
- 5:21Speaker 2: in college. They're obviously not Division I or Division II.
- 5:24Speaker 2: They're not going to YSU. They're not going to Ohio State.
- 5:28Speaker 2: They're not getting any athletic scholarships like that. But then
- 5:33Speaker 2: you'll have signing ceremonies. WKBN is always having signing ceremonies
- 5:38Speaker 2: for kids that are going to Mount Union to play
- 5:43Speaker 2: soccer or going to some school I've never heard of,
- 5:46Speaker 2: some tiny little school somewhere that I've never heard of,
- 5:50Speaker 2: to continue their high school athletic career. And the only
- 5:54Speaker 2: thing that I think of is very few of these
- 5:56Speaker 2: kids are going there and getting a free ride, if any.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Because for the most part, I think a lot of
- 6:00Speaker 2: these Division III schools don't pay full rides. They might
- 6:04Speaker 2: give you a couple scholars, which you otherwise wouldn't have
- 6:06Speaker 2: gotten in that. But mom and dad are probably still
- 6:08Speaker 2: on the hook every year. Or you are, because most
- 6:11Speaker 2: of these kids sign student loans and take out the
- 6:14Speaker 2: debt that Joe Biden told them they'll never have to
- 6:16Speaker 2: pay off. But they borrow, in many instances, $ 40, 000, $ 50, 000
- 6:22Speaker 2: a year to go to a Division III college and
- 6:24Speaker 2: continue their athletic career. where they could have gone to YSU,
- 6:28Speaker 2: probably had decent grades anyway, because most kids do today.
- 6:30Speaker 2: You have decent ACT and decent grades, you're probably going
- 6:34Speaker 2: to YSU for $ 6, 000, $ 7, 000 at the most, a lot
- 6:37Speaker 2: of times less. And it just seems to me such
- 6:40Speaker 2: a waste of time and effort that these people are
- 6:43Speaker 2: putting in on this stuff. It just dawned on me
- 6:47Speaker 2: this morning, and I thought, well, rather than sit here
- 6:49Speaker 2: and talk about Iran and inflation and everything else, it
- 6:51Speaker 2: would just be another topic I want to get off
- 6:53Speaker 2: my chest, because it's just something that I think people were,
- 6:57Speaker 2: there's so many parents, I think, that focus on this
- 6:59Speaker 2: or kids that focus on this. And I just think
- 7:02Speaker 2: it's ridiculous most of the time. So I just want
- 7:04Speaker 2: to see what you thought of that.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I find myself in agreement with you. I think it
- 7:07Speaker 1: is ridiculous. How about that? We're not even going to
- 7:10Speaker 1: disagree on that. I never, and a lot of times
- 7:13Speaker 1: when these kids go to some of these schools and
- 7:15Speaker 1: they get a scholarship, there's still huge expenses, as you said,
- 7:18Speaker 1: that the parents have to pay. room and board, all
- 7:20Speaker 1: kinds of stuff. So I think it's ridiculous. I'm with you.
- 7:24Speaker 1: So far, we're in agreement.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was just a topic I figured I'd
- 7:29Speaker 2: throw out there today just to see if other people
- 7:32Speaker 2: agree with us, disagree with us. Yeah, Dan Ryan used
- 7:36Speaker 2: to say, well, run up the flagpole and see if
- 7:38Speaker 2: anybody salutes.
- 7:39Speaker 1: That's what we're here for. So let's see if anybody salutes.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah. What do you think we're going to end up
- 7:45Speaker 2: doing in Iran? Because today was supposed to be bomber day,
- 7:48Speaker 2: and then he pulled back on it. And I haven't
- 7:49Speaker 2: seen anything in the news today that says they've made
- 7:52Speaker 2: an agreement.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I don't... What do I think is going to happen?
- 8:00Speaker 2: I think we're in somewhat of a quagmire.
- 8:04Speaker 1: So do I.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I just..
- 8:06Speaker 1: I mean, you know where I stand. I don't think
- 8:08Speaker 1: it was a good idea from the very beginning. I
- 8:10Speaker 1: make it public. I just say it again. I think
- 8:12Speaker 1: Trump was duped into this as a result of Israel.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I think that's– there's a couple of things that I
- 8:18Speaker 1: would say to you that I say to everybody that
- 8:20Speaker 1: really has bothered me about Trump lately. And that doesn't
- 8:24Speaker 1: mean you hate him or you're going to vote against
- 8:26Speaker 1: him or you'd vote for a Democrat. What bothers me
- 8:28Speaker 1: about Trump is his reversal once again on the Epstein files.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I found it very odd and very strange. I still do.
- 8:34Speaker 1: particularly because he campaigned on it. Then it was like,
- 8:38Speaker 1: all of a sudden it was like, oh, you're still
- 8:40Speaker 1: talking about that? And I found that interesting, his reversal
- 8:44Speaker 1: on Epstein. I also find it interesting, his against regime
- 8:51Speaker 1: change and never-ending battles in the Middle East, getting involved
- 8:55Speaker 1: in this particular situation. And so the third thing I
- 8:58Speaker 1: find disturbing is how he's turning on many of his
- 9:01Speaker 1: supporters who helped him get elected but don't agree with
- 9:03Speaker 1: them on everything, and all of a sudden they're like
- 9:05Speaker 1: poison to him. And he's very mean, bitter, and insulting him.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Those three aspects of him lately, I don't much care for.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I voted for the guy every time
- 9:17Speaker 2: he's run for anything. But he's not without his flaws.
- 9:20Speaker 2: He's probably one of the biggest narcissists I've ever seen
- 9:24Speaker 2: elected to office. And that's saying something, because politicians tend
- 9:27Speaker 2: to be extremely narcissistic. And he does have a little
- 9:31Speaker 2: bit of a vindictive streak in him.
- 9:34Speaker 1: But why would you be vindictive against people that don't
- 9:39Speaker 1: agree with everything you do? I don't care if it's
- 9:41Speaker 1: Tucker Carlson or it's Massey or it's Bobart or some
- 9:44Speaker 1: of these people. They don't agree with his reversals on Epstein.
- 9:48Speaker 1: They don't agree with his situation with the war in
- 9:51Speaker 1: the Middle East. But if they agree with him on, what, 85%
- 9:56Speaker 1: of the rest of the stuff he does, why do
- 9:58Speaker 1: you say that there bad news? I mean, why do
- 10:01Speaker 1: you insult Tucker Carlson? He's low IQ. Was he low
- 10:04Speaker 1: IQ when he was on stage campaigning for you and
- 10:06Speaker 1: you had him there? I mean, you get what I'm saying.
- 10:09Speaker 1: All of a sudden, it's like, it's just a trait
- 10:13Speaker 1: I don't really much care for. And I sit back
- 10:16Speaker 1: and say, gee, it seems to me affordability, the issue
- 10:20Speaker 1: is back and back strong. And it also seems to
- 10:23Speaker 1: me that getting people out of this country who came
- 10:25Speaker 1: here illegally certainly has disappeared off the radar screen.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Well, I think, unfortunately, there's nobody to negotiate with over there.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I think that's the biggest issue we have. We killed
- 10:37Speaker 2: all the leadership pretty much in the first minute of
- 10:40Speaker 2: the war. And now the people, the diplomat people... don't
- 10:45Speaker 2: have the power that the people holding the guns have,
- 10:47Speaker 2: and the people holding the guns aren't going to capitulate.
- 10:50Speaker 2: So you're kind of in a quagmire. And I am starting,
- 10:54Speaker 2: I mean, while I do think, you know, and I've
- 10:56Speaker 2: said this all along, while I think in the long
- 10:58Speaker 2: run this is going to end up being the right
- 11:01Speaker 2: move to do, I do think it's going to have
- 11:04Speaker 2: some consequences, especially in this November's election, because I don't,
- 11:09Speaker 2: I look at the stock market and how well the
- 11:11Speaker 2: stock market's doing, and I just don't understand it. So
- 11:15Speaker 2: I would love to have somebody that's a financial person
- 11:17Speaker 2: explain to me why the market is doing as well
- 11:19Speaker 2: as it is, considering where we're at in the economy.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Well, I would say this to you. As I would say,
- 11:25Speaker 1: the market did really well under Biden. But I've always
- 11:27Speaker 1: said there's a disconnect between Main Street and Wall Street.
- 11:31Speaker 1: There genuinely is. You cut 10,000 jobs, put a bunch
- 11:34Speaker 1: of people out of work, the stock of the company
- 11:36Speaker 1: goes up because you did cost reduction. You follow me?
- 11:38Speaker 1: So there is that disconnect.
- 11:43Speaker 2: So..
- 11:44Speaker 1: Where am I as far as... I just think there's
- 11:47Speaker 1: some of the stuff. I don't think there's a good
- 11:49Speaker 1: way out of this situation. I said again, I think
- 11:53Speaker 1: he underestimated them. And as far as I think the
- 11:57Speaker 1: administration thought this would be over relatively quick, they kind
- 12:00Speaker 1: of said that. And it's not over relatively quick. And
- 12:04Speaker 1: it doesn't appear that it's going to be over anytime soon,
- 12:07Speaker 1: that they're dug in and they're not going to agree
- 12:10Speaker 1: to a lot of the stuff that Trump insists they
- 12:12Speaker 1: agree to.
- 12:12Speaker 4: So..
- 12:14Speaker 1: Does this just, as you say, quagmire, just continue to
- 12:16Speaker 1: go on like this? I agree with you. I'm worried
- 12:20Speaker 1: about the American economy. I'm worried about this country. And
- 12:25Speaker 1: it seems like he's taken his eye off the ball.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I want to see more people that came here illegally
- 12:30Speaker 1: out of the country. And I want to see the
- 12:31Speaker 1: affordability issue addressed in the country. And I was never
- 12:35Speaker 1: up at night worried about Iran before this happens. And
- 12:40Speaker 1: it might end up being worse because really they didn't.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Now with the straight, they're kind of calling, saying we
- 12:48Speaker 1: got more power here with it than we've used in
- 12:50Speaker 1: the past and we might start using that more often
- 12:53Speaker 1: based on the geography where they're located. So did he
- 12:57Speaker 1: create a monster by doing this? I just put it
- 12:59Speaker 1: out there. I mean, do you think it's okay if
- 13:02Speaker 1: this goes on another six months?
- 13:03Speaker 5: No.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I don't, but don't you find, aren't you a little
- 13:08Speaker 2: bit mystified as to why the rest of the world hasn't,
- 13:11Speaker 2: because as much as it's hurting us with the price
- 13:14Speaker 2: of oil, it's destroying the rest of the world. It's
- 13:18Speaker 2: going to really bother the Chinese because they import the
- 13:21Speaker 2: vast majority of the oil from that area and Europe.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I think it's going to, I think it's affecting us
- 13:26Speaker 1: not just in gas prices, but also with oil. And
- 13:28Speaker 1: I think it's affecting our economy. And I think as
- 13:31Speaker 1: time goes on, it can make it even worse. And
- 13:35Speaker 1: that's what I'm concerned about. Listen, I live in the
- 13:38Speaker 1: United States of America. I'm worried about what's going on
- 13:40Speaker 1: here right now. I believe in America first. I was
- 13:43Speaker 1: not up at night worried about Iran at all. I mean,
- 13:47Speaker 1: we dropped the bunker buster. I thought that took care
- 13:49Speaker 1: of everything. I thought whatever was left was buried in
- 13:52Speaker 1: the mountain. Nothing to worry about. Mission accomplished. See you later.
- 13:57Speaker 1: But now all of a sudden we're back and we
- 13:58Speaker 1: bombed the hell out of them again. Well, okay. So
- 14:03Speaker 1: you say we've taken out all this kind of stuff,
- 14:06Speaker 1: but they're not coming to the negotiating table or surrendering
- 14:08Speaker 1: or whatever it is that you want them to do.
- 14:11Speaker 1: And it's been how long since that's happened. So you
- 14:14Speaker 1: keep saying, well, what are we going to do? You're
- 14:16Speaker 1: going to bomb them some more? Well, what makes you
- 14:17Speaker 1: think that's going to work if you do it again?
- 14:19Speaker 1: I mean, that would be my question to anybody involved.
- 14:23Speaker 1: At what point do you say, okay, these people are
- 14:25Speaker 1: dug in. They're not going to agree to what you
- 14:29Speaker 1: want them to agree to. It doesn't surprise me. I mean,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I wish we'd get the hell out of the Middle East.
- 14:37Speaker 1: That's my thought. And I think he's hurt himself politically.
- 14:41Speaker 1: He doesn't have to worry because he doesn't have to
- 14:43Speaker 1: run for re-election, but he's hurt the Democrat Party. I'm
- 14:47Speaker 1: afraid that he can potentially lose the midterms. I don't
- 14:50Speaker 1: understand it. As frustrated as I can get with Trump,
- 14:53Speaker 1: I voted for him as well three times. I would
- 14:55Speaker 1: never vote for Sherrod Brown or a Democrat. But I
- 14:57Speaker 1: think there are plenty of other people that say, okay,
- 15:00Speaker 1: It's economy stupid, and they will vote for whoever the
- 15:03Speaker 1: opposition party is when they look around and see their
- 15:06Speaker 1: lifestyle declining, just as they did when Biden was president.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think if you look out, what even
- 15:12Speaker 2: worries me even more is we're pushing to the point
- 15:15Speaker 2: where we're getting close to two years until 2028 when
- 15:17Speaker 2: we pick a new guy. And if the economy goes
- 15:20Speaker 2: south and the Democrats capture both houses and the presidency,
- 15:26Speaker 2: I think they will do things that people have never
- 15:30Speaker 2: really thought were possible. I think they will get rid
- 15:33Speaker 2: of the filibuster. I think they will start to pack
- 15:35Speaker 2: the Supreme Court, look at adding states, D.C., Puerto Rico,
- 15:39Speaker 2: things like that, and abuse their power. And that worries me.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Don't you fault the Republican Party for not acting, taking
- 15:47Speaker 1: all these executive orders and making them into law? I mean,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I find a lot of the Republicans being in charge
- 15:53Speaker 1: being pretty mediocre that they haven't... taken the agenda and
- 15:59Speaker 1: made it more than executive orders. And I fault them
- 16:02Speaker 1: for that. I leave you with that. I got to pause.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Thank you, Rich.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Take care, Ron.
- 16:06Speaker 1: All right, more calls ahead. News Radio 570 WKBN and
- 16:09Speaker 1: Ron Ferb here till 6. Stay tuned. From the kingdom
- 16:12Speaker 1: of Mahoning.
- 16:13Speaker 6: Youngstown's news, weather, and talk station, 570 WKBN.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Howdy ho, 324 here on a Tuesday afternoon. It's 86 degrees.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Ron Ferb, and you're on the air. Hello there.
- 16:25Speaker 7: Hi, Ron.
- 16:25Speaker 2: How are you? I'm well.
- 16:27Speaker 1: J.J.
- 16:28Speaker 3: The liberal.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Listen, did you happen to see him talking to the
- 16:32Speaker 4: press today?
- 16:34Speaker 1: I did not.
- 16:36Speaker 4: You've got to, in between one of your commercials, just
- 16:39Speaker 4: Google it real quick. As he's speaking and saying, once again, how...
- 16:44Speaker 4: It's not he doesn't care about the gas prices and
- 16:46Speaker 4: how it's affecting us normal Americans. And that he just
- 16:50Speaker 4: doesn't want Iran to have a nuclear war, a weapon.
- 16:53Speaker 4: While in the background, you can hear a sawing going
- 16:55Speaker 4: off and trucks going around. And he's building a $ 1
- 16:59Speaker 4: billion ballroom, which he claims is going to be donations. Now,
- 17:06Speaker 4: my question to you is this. I have my house.
- 17:10Speaker 4: I say I want to move in another two years.
- 17:13Speaker 4: I want to live in it two years. And I say, well,
- 17:15Speaker 4: my house is worth $ 100, 000. Then I go, you know what,
- 17:18Speaker 4: this summer I'm going to put an in-ground pool. So
- 17:20Speaker 4: that in-ground pool goes in, it's $ 10, 000. So I use
- 17:24Speaker 4: it for about a year, a year and a half.
- 17:25Speaker 4: And then when I go to sell it, I only
- 17:28Speaker 4: sell my house still for the $ 100, 000. I'm not going
- 17:31Speaker 4: to add the $ 10, 000 that I spent out of my
- 17:33Speaker 4: pocket to a pool that I only use for a
- 17:35Speaker 4: year and a half. Now, why would anybody do that?
- 17:38Speaker 4: Either they're not paying for it, or you can't tell
- 17:44Speaker 4: me that he's investing something, and these people are investing
- 17:47Speaker 4: something that a Democrat could possibly have in another year
- 17:50Speaker 4: and a half. I just want you guys to just
- 17:53Speaker 4: ponder that for a few moments.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Well, what do you think? I mean, you build a ballroom,
- 17:57Speaker 1: and once you're out, I mean, the future administrations would
- 18:02Speaker 1: use it.
- 18:03Speaker 4: No, Ron. Think, why would you do that? Why would
- 18:07Speaker 4: I do that? I'm either not planning on leaving the
- 18:09Speaker 4: White House or the American people are paying for it,
- 18:14Speaker 4: not my donors and not me. You guys got to
- 18:17Speaker 4: think about that. Just please do me a favor. I'll
- 18:19Speaker 4: call you the next couple of days. Think about my
- 18:21Speaker 4: question there. Anyway, he's telling us we can't lower gas
- 18:25Speaker 4: prices while saying that he has huge, huge boats going
- 18:29Speaker 4: to Alaska, to Texas, to Louisiana to be refined. Now,
- 18:35Speaker 4: we're the only one of the only major countries that
- 18:38Speaker 4: refined it. Russia's the other one. We refine all the
- 18:41Speaker 4: oil in the world. So if we're getting this oil
- 18:43Speaker 4: and refining it, why are the gas prices still high?
- 18:48Speaker 4: And I just don't understand when you're making a comment
- 18:51Speaker 4: like that. There's people like me that go, well, wait
- 18:54Speaker 4: a second. He was so excited about it. He was almost,
- 18:56Speaker 4: you know, had a little weaker, got excited. He was
- 18:59Speaker 4: saying that how important it was that he would get
- 19:01Speaker 4: all this oil, that it was going to states where
- 19:03Speaker 4: they do the refinery, refining of the oil, but the
- 19:07Speaker 4: gas prices are going higher. That doesn't make any sense
- 19:11Speaker 4: other than if somebody's just ripping you off. Okay, I
- 19:13Speaker 4: don't have to be a genius to know that somebody's
- 19:16Speaker 4: playing a little game with me. And it just bothers
- 19:19Speaker 4: me that he can't do that. He can't even, you know,
- 19:21Speaker 4: I understand your point about being upset at people that
- 19:23Speaker 4: are working age of 25 and they're sitting in their
- 19:26Speaker 4: mom's basement smoking out of a bong. Okay, I don't
- 19:31Speaker 4: want that. When I was 25, I was working three jobs.
- 19:33Speaker 4: The thing is, is that I don't want those people
- 19:35Speaker 4: getting freebies. So we should be investing more people into
- 19:39Speaker 4: making sure that those things get caught. Other than that,
- 19:42Speaker 4: there are people that genuinely need some things, but he
- 19:45Speaker 4: wants to spend $ 1 billion claiming that if these people
- 19:48Speaker 4: are donating, why don't they donate it to the people
- 19:50Speaker 4: that need it? If I had a couple hundred million
- 19:53Speaker 4: that I could throw around, don't you think you would
- 19:55Speaker 4: want to go out and help somebody? And I'm asking
- 19:58Speaker 4: you these questions because I pace in my garage all
- 20:00Speaker 4: the time wondering, am I wrong? Am I wrong to
- 20:03Speaker 4: get to it? Am I not thinking correctly that if
- 20:06Speaker 4: I'm going to, why would I spend the money on
- 20:07Speaker 4: a ballroom that I'm only going to use for a
- 20:10Speaker 4: year and a half when I know that maybe a
- 20:11Speaker 4: Democrat's going to come in and use that and they're
- 20:13Speaker 4: going to really enjoy it for four years? It doesn't
- 20:16Speaker 4: make any sense. And I'm just upset that, you know, again,
- 20:20Speaker 4: Rich is on there talking about how it's a Democrat.
- 20:22Speaker 4: It's a Democrat. This war is under his watch, not
- 20:26Speaker 4: my watch. Okay, we were able to keep Iran under
- 20:29Speaker 4: arrest because the money you guys claimed that we gave them,
- 20:33Speaker 4: Obama gave them, that was money that we grabbed from
- 20:36Speaker 4: them for the... What do you call them?
- 20:39Speaker 7: Oh, God.
- 20:44Speaker 4: You want to go against the country and you want
- 20:45Speaker 4: to keep them there. Oh, God, help Iran. Anyway, that
- 20:50Speaker 4: was their money. That was Iran's money. And we took it. Chances.
- 20:54Speaker 4: We took it as a that they had to meet
- 20:56Speaker 4: the requirements by letting us show up any time we
- 20:58Speaker 4: wanted to check that they're doing only so much with
- 21:03Speaker 4: the uranium. I can't remember the word the dirty winter.
- 21:06Speaker 4: So we have to give them.
- 21:09Speaker 1: All right.
- 21:10Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Can I come back and come back to you, please?
- 21:13Speaker 1: For just a second, yes. All right, hang in. I'll
- 21:16Speaker 1: be back.
- 21:18Speaker 6: News Radio 570 WKVN.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Back to it, News Radio 570 WKVN. And Ron, Verb
- 21:25Speaker 1: 335 here on a Tuesday afternoon. Nice day, 85 degrees.
- 21:29Speaker 1: All right, you're pacing back and forth in the garage.
- 21:31Speaker 4: I'm cool now, 15 seconds. The thing is, you guys
- 21:34Speaker 4: always say that I hate Trump more than I love America.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Because no matter what he would do, I would still
- 21:41Speaker 4: hate him, which I'll claim that I don't hate him.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Second of all, you guys hate Biden just as much
- 21:46Speaker 4: as I supposedly hate Trump. So that means you guys
- 21:49Speaker 4: have Biden syndrome. You have a Biden syndrome on you guys.
- 21:53Speaker 4: You guys got to get looked after, man. You got
- 21:55Speaker 4: a problem there. And second, the last thing I want
- 21:57Speaker 4: to say is the whole idea is for them not
- 22:00Speaker 4: to have a nuclear weapon. What needs to happen for
- 22:03Speaker 4: us to be convinced that they don't? Do you understand?
- 22:06Speaker 4: Do they get it? The pinky swear? It's crossed my heart.
- 22:09Speaker 4: What do they have to do? And we had an
- 22:11Speaker 4: agreement already set up. Think about it again. What needs
- 22:15Speaker 4: to be the end game for me to be guaranteed
- 22:18Speaker 4: and me to feel comfortable that they are not going
- 22:21Speaker 4: to have a nuclear weapon or this is going to
- 22:22Speaker 4: go on for years? Thank you, my friend. I appreciate
- 22:26Speaker 4: you listening.
- 22:26Speaker 1: All right. Thank you, JJ. The liberal on fire today.
- 22:29Speaker 1: News Radio 570. Wait a second here. Let me do this.
- 22:33Speaker 1: And you're on the air.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Hello, Ron.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Hello, sir.
- 22:40Speaker 8: A slightly different subject, but you don't get to hear
- 22:45Speaker 8: the commercials, but we do. And I noticed there was
- 22:47Speaker 8: a commercial for 570 WKBN during the break. And it
- 22:54Speaker 8: says it's the Youngstown's only talk radio station. What's 1240?
- 23:07Speaker 1: You mean as far as the ID? The news talk station.
- 23:10Speaker 8: What's the other station?
- 23:12Speaker 2: 1240.
- 23:12Speaker 8: What do they do?
- 23:14Speaker 1: Those are sports stations.
- 23:16Speaker 8: Well, let them do sports and you stick to talk
- 23:19Speaker 8: so that I don't have to change the station.
- 23:21Speaker 2: As soon as the Indians come on.
- 23:23Speaker 8: And I don't have to find Clay and Buck on
- 23:25Speaker 8: another station when... When the Indians are playing in the afternoon.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Well, here's the rub. All right. I can appreciate your input.
- 23:33Speaker 1: One thing that you're going to find is we're not
- 23:35Speaker 1: going to be able to please everybody. I can tell
- 23:37Speaker 1: you this. When the Guardians come on, listenership is pretty
- 23:42Speaker 1: solid and pretty strong. I mean, I can appreciate the
- 23:45Speaker 1: fact maybe you don't follow sports. Maybe you don't follow
- 23:48Speaker 1: the Cavaliers having a great season. Maybe you don't follow
- 23:50Speaker 1: baseball or maybe you're not interested in football. But a
- 23:53Speaker 1: hell of a lot of people are. And because that's
- 23:57Speaker 1: what it's all about, we can we've carried.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I understand.
- 24:02Speaker 8: So we're not another station in the area that covers that.
- 24:06Speaker 1: OK, we don't own that station. We have the rights
- 24:08Speaker 1: to the Guardians, and we're going to carry the Guardians
- 24:12Speaker 1: just as we have the rights to the Browns. That's
- 24:17Speaker 1: just a part of it. I can't help it that
- 24:19Speaker 1: you dislike it. Well, then don't listen to it. But
- 24:21Speaker 1: I can tell you this much. A lot of people
- 24:24Speaker 1: tune in for that and not necessarily to the talk show.
- 24:29Speaker 1: So there's a lot of people who tune in to
- 24:31Speaker 1: hear the Guardians that stick around and listen to talk
- 24:33Speaker 1: radio or it exposes them to talk radio. It's more
- 24:36Speaker 1: of a positive than it is a negative.
- 24:40Speaker 5: Okay.
- 24:40Speaker 4: I can appreciate that, sir.
- 24:42Speaker 1: All right.
- 24:42Speaker 8: I just wanted to express my frustration when I got
- 24:45Speaker 8: to find another station to listen to Feinbach or something
- 24:48Speaker 8: like that.
- 24:48Speaker 1: All right.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 24:51Speaker 9: I'd rather stick and listen to 570, but sometimes I can't.
- 24:54Speaker 1: I know, but you can always come back. I appreciate it.
- 24:58Speaker 1: All right. I get it. As I say, you're never
- 25:02Speaker 1: going to be able to please everybody on everything. I mean,
- 25:06Speaker 1: it's just a lot of people just don't understand the
- 25:10Speaker 1: idiosyncrasies of everything. Like a lot of these network shows
- 25:15Speaker 1: are owned by iHeart. I mean, that's their network, premier network.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So they are a part of the iHeart family, if
- 25:22Speaker 1: you will. News Radio 570, WKBN. Ron Ferb, you're on
- 25:25Speaker 1: the air.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Ron.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Well, look at who we have here. It's the boss lady.
- 25:31Speaker 5: And I listened.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I listened.
- 25:34Speaker 1: You listened to what?
- 25:34Speaker 5: I went... I went and listened to the reels, and
- 25:38Speaker 5: I pulled up the articles on that. Executive over it. Oh,
- 25:44Speaker 5: my God.
- 25:47Speaker 7: Dude, that's insane.
- 25:50Speaker 5: I know, isn't it? I don't believe them.
- 25:53Speaker 1: First of all.
- 25:55Speaker 5: He looks like Beaker from The Muppet Show.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Did you happen to read, don't say it, her nickname
- 26:00Speaker 1: for him? Did she get that?
- 26:03Speaker 5: I know. How did I miss the nickname?
- 26:06Speaker 1: You'll have to find the nickname. But as I understand it, J.P.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Morgan offered him $ 20 million, and he turned it down.
- 26:14Speaker 5: Yeah, but they're saying, like, if he had with the evidence,
- 26:17Speaker 5: and all her co-workers said nothing. Like, she wasn't even
- 26:22Speaker 5: at the places where he said she was. I think
- 26:25Speaker 5: it's so bizarre. I think he's lying. Really?
- 26:30Speaker 7: Really.
- 26:31Speaker 8: I do.
- 26:32Speaker 5: He looks like Beaker from The Muppet Show. I couldn't
- 26:34Speaker 5: even get past all of it. I kept looking at
- 26:37Speaker 5: him and looking at her and looking back and forth
- 26:39Speaker 5: and going, what is going on?
- 26:41Speaker 1: You know, this is odd because I, too, have done this,
- 26:44Speaker 1: did the same thing and probably had the same thoughts
- 26:47Speaker 1: that you're expressing. I thought, what is this? This doesn't
- 26:51Speaker 1: seem like it makes sense to me based on what
- 26:54Speaker 1: I'm looking at.
- 26:54Speaker 5: I mean, she could have picked a better looking sex slave.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Right, apparently so. But can you believe that? Can you
- 27:00Speaker 1: believe it?
- 27:01Speaker 5: No, I can't. Oh, my gosh. That was crazy.
- 27:05Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I mean, it's a hell of a story involving J.P.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Morgan.
- 27:09Speaker 1: And I don't know what office that was out of,
- 27:13Speaker 1: if that was out of New York or where that
- 27:14Speaker 1: was out of.
- 27:17Speaker 5: You know what? I didn't catch that either. I feel
- 27:19Speaker 5: like it was New York.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:20Speaker 1: It had to be one of those big cities. But
- 27:23Speaker 1: why would they offer him $ 20 million if they didn't
- 27:25Speaker 1: think there was smoke in his fire?
- 27:27Speaker 5: Probably just to make him shut up and go back
- 27:29Speaker 5: to the Muppet show.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yeah, but $ 20 million is a lot of money. I
- 27:33Speaker 1: can't believe the guy turned down $ 20 million if they
- 27:36Speaker 1: offered him that. I mean, I don't know.
- 27:39Speaker 5: It'll be interesting to see how this shakes out.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:44Speaker 1: But who knows? Apparently, he saved the text messages and
- 27:49Speaker 1: this kind of stuff. So who knows? I mean, it'd
- 27:52Speaker 1: be interesting. If it goes to court, I can hardly
- 27:55Speaker 1: wait to tune in and watch.
- 27:57Speaker 5: That'll be good listening.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Yeah, to say the least.
- 28:01Speaker 5: I got to disagree with the pharmacist.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Why is that?
- 28:06Speaker 5: On the D3 athletes.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Really? Explain, please.
- 28:11Speaker 8: I do.
- 28:12Speaker 5: One, they're more battle-tested than any of the divisions. These
- 28:16Speaker 5: kids have a strong focus on academics. I mean, the
- 28:20Speaker 5: one-on-one development they get from their coaches. I mean, you
- 28:25Speaker 5: can't have a low GPA and compete at that level.
- 28:28Speaker 5: And you're talking... top athletes in the country. I mean,
- 28:31Speaker 5: only the top 7% of all athletes make it D3, 2,
- 28:34Speaker 5: or 1. And D1 is, you know, less than 1%,
- 28:39Speaker 5: I think.
- 28:40Speaker 7: So these kids have to carry a full..
- 28:45Speaker 5: First of all, to even.
- 28:46Speaker 7: Get in to the D3 school, you can't be a dummy.
- 28:50Speaker 5: I mean, you have to have a high GPA, high
- 28:53Speaker 5: ACT score. So now you have to balance competing at
- 28:58Speaker 5: a high level... And many times they're in tournaments wrestling
- 29:02Speaker 5: against or playing against D1 or D2 athletes. And you
- 29:07Speaker 5: have to get the grades. I would hire a D3
- 29:10Speaker 5: athlete all day over a D1 athlete.
- 29:13Speaker 7: And the reason I say that is I.
- 29:15Speaker 5: Love hiring athletes. Because athletes have grit, determination. They've learned
- 29:21Speaker 5: all those life lessons. I mean, companies spend millions trying
- 29:25Speaker 5: to coach and teach athletes.
- 29:27Speaker 7: The skills that these athletes have to have.
- 29:30Speaker 5: And that's not a soft skill. I mean, it's how
- 29:35Speaker 5: they operate every single day. in the workforce.
- 29:38Speaker 7: Companies pay millions to try to teach what these kids.
- 29:41Speaker 5: Already have instilled in them. How to overcome obstacles, how
- 29:46Speaker 5: to persevere, show up on time, you do extra. It
- 29:53Speaker 5: strong work ethic. Mentally, they're physically, it keeps them physically fit.
- 29:58Speaker 5: And the networking in a D3 school will outperform a
- 30:03Speaker 5: D1 any day. The D3 kids have this network and
- 30:07Speaker 5: they are literally, truly brothers. Those coaches go above and beyond.
- 30:11Speaker 5: They will get them a job, find them a job,
- 30:13Speaker 5: help them get a job. They bring in their scholarship.
- 30:16Speaker 5: I mean, they do get some financial gifting. It's nowhere
- 30:21Speaker 5: near And it is expensive as heck. But if you're
- 30:26Speaker 5: fortunate enough that your kid can compete at that level
- 30:29Speaker 5: and you can help pay for some of that, it's
- 30:32Speaker 5: well worth it. I mean, I'm telling you, I think
- 30:36Speaker 5: their success rate, first of all, their college graduation rate
- 30:39Speaker 5: far exceeds a D2 or a D1 athlete. They graduate
- 30:45Speaker 5: at a higher rate.
- 30:47Speaker 1: And you think they're a better person when you hire
- 30:49Speaker 1: people as you do employees. You look for that and
- 30:52Speaker 1: you think they're a better employee because of that training?
- 30:55Speaker 4: They are. Yep, they are.
- 30:57Speaker 5: They're always mentally tougher. They always work through tough challenges.
- 31:02Speaker 7: Anybody who's that competitive, I love it.
- 31:05Speaker 5: They're born to win.
- 31:06Speaker 11: They want to win.
- 31:07Speaker 5: They don't like losing. They always are looking for another
- 31:09Speaker 5: way to rework the problem. And you can't teach that.
- 31:14Speaker 5: You got these kids sitting home like slugs. You get
- 31:16Speaker 5: somebody who's fit, who cares about themselves, the way they
- 31:22Speaker 5: present themselves, has grit. determination, doesn't want to lose. You can't, you, you,
- 31:30Speaker 5: it pays off. It pays off. They make the best employees.
- 31:35Speaker 1: So I hire them all day long. So let me
- 31:37Speaker 1: ask you again with, with your knowledge, how do you
- 31:39Speaker 1: think the economy is right now? How do you assess
- 31:42Speaker 1: the economy?
- 31:43Speaker 5: I would go back to what your caller said yesterday.
- 31:46Speaker 5: I think for those that are, that are in the
- 31:50Speaker 5: middle upper class, it's going well. I think if you're not,
- 31:55Speaker 5: it's rough. But I will say that even people that
- 32:00Speaker 5: are middle, upper class, I have many colleagues. I have
- 32:05Speaker 5: two in particular. One is one of the best employees
- 32:08Speaker 5: who's ever worked for me. In fact, I brought him
- 32:09Speaker 5: every place I've ever worked. He's brilliant. He's so freaking good.
- 32:13Speaker 5: If I had a spot, I'd hire him tomorrow. I
- 32:15Speaker 5: don't have anywhere to put him. He is still looking
- 32:18Speaker 5: for a job. It's been a year, and I don't
- 32:20Speaker 5: even know who possibly in the industry that he's.
- 32:23Speaker 4: In is better than him.
- 32:24Speaker 5: And he still can't get a job right now.
- 32:27Speaker 1: What do you attribute that to? Does that make sense
- 32:29Speaker 1: to you?
- 32:31Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I think companies are not investing in initiatives like.
- 32:39Speaker 4: They were before.
- 32:40Speaker 5: They're not investing back into the company right now. They're
- 32:45Speaker 5: kind of holding tight to make sure that their margins
- 32:49Speaker 5: come out okay. They're not spending. A lot of these
- 32:52Speaker 5: companies are just sitting tight. They're trying to drive more
- 32:55Speaker 5: productivity and less hires to still... A lot of companies
- 33:01Speaker 5: are getting smacked with, and I'll say, tariffs and the
- 33:05Speaker 5: uncertainty of everything that's going on. So the good companies
- 33:09Speaker 5: are going to hold back. The other companies aren't going
- 33:11Speaker 5: to pay attention and they're going to hire people and
- 33:13Speaker 5: then lay them off or get rid of them. Or
- 33:15Speaker 5: you're just going to not replace attrition, right? So a
- 33:18Speaker 5: lot of companies that do have the means, they'll just
- 33:23Speaker 5: slow play a little bit for a And as people
- 33:27Speaker 5: have turned out, they just won't backfill. And you're seeing
- 33:30Speaker 5: that happening, too.
- 33:32Speaker 1: So basically, like they say on Wall Street, uncertainty is
- 33:34Speaker 1: not a good thing. You're saying from your level in
- 33:37Speaker 1: the business world, uncertainty is a bad thing because we
- 33:40Speaker 1: don't know where the war is going or energy prices
- 33:42Speaker 1: are going or consumer confidence is going as a result
- 33:46Speaker 1: of any of this kind of stuff.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:47Speaker 5: I mean, when you have shareholders, you've got to deliver
- 33:50Speaker 5: revenue and margin, both. And if you don't deliver revenue,
- 33:53Speaker 5: you better at least deliver margin. And the only way
- 33:56Speaker 5: you can do that, if you can't deliver the revenue
- 34:00Speaker 5: and you have to deliver the margin, is you have
- 34:02Speaker 5: to cut costs because your revenue is not coming in.
- 34:05Speaker 5: So if you're not cutting costs, your shareholders are going
- 34:08Speaker 5: to kill you. So you have to, you have to
- 34:12Speaker 5: do that. And when you don't know what the cost
- 34:14Speaker 5: is going to be, or the cost is higher and
- 34:18Speaker 5: you're selling a product and people aren't buying at the
- 34:21Speaker 5: same rate, your revenue is dropping. Well, if your revenue drops,
- 34:24Speaker 5: you got to got it. You have to deliver the margin.
- 34:26Speaker 5: Margin is King, but, but yeah, I.
- 34:31Speaker 11: Mean, it's, it's, it's tough.
- 34:33Speaker 5: It's tough. It's tough.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm just looking at– when I sit
- 34:39Speaker 1: back and when I talk about the economy, I think
- 34:41Speaker 1: it's in a terrible spot right now. And I only
- 34:44Speaker 1: say this. I can't imagine where it would have been
- 34:46Speaker 1: if we would have never got involved in this situation
- 34:48Speaker 1: in Iran. I mean, you had oil prices $ 2. 50 a
- 34:51Speaker 1: gallon and potentially going down. You had inflation going down.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Everything was going in the right direction. Everything. And then
- 34:59Speaker 1: as a result of this situation in Iran, everything is
- 35:02Speaker 1: reversed and gone in the wrong, in the totally opposite
- 35:05Speaker 1: wrong direction. Inflation's back, prices are up, there's the uncertainty
- 35:11Speaker 1: of it, and it continues just to drag on and
- 35:13Speaker 1: on and on. And I don't think anything good is
- 35:16Speaker 1: coming from this situation at all. And I'm an American
- 35:19Speaker 1: first guy. I'm more concerned about what's happening in my
- 35:23Speaker 1: country to everybody's life as far as inflation is concerned.
- 35:27Speaker 1: and potentially what can happen at the midterms as a
- 35:29Speaker 1: result of this choice in going to Iran. Because if
- 35:34Speaker 1: he's not successful in keeping a majority in the midterms,
- 35:37Speaker 1: then the next two years are going to be just
- 35:39Speaker 1: totally meaningless because it's going to be impeachment, it's going
- 35:41Speaker 1: to be all of this ridiculous stuff that's going to
- 35:44Speaker 1: come back, and then he's blowing a great opportunity to
- 35:47Speaker 1: do great things over those two years that could benefit
- 35:50Speaker 1: all of us based on this situation in Iran. A
- 35:53Speaker 1: thousand percent.
- 35:55Speaker 5: I agree a thousand percent.
- 35:56Speaker 4: He better..
- 35:58Speaker 5: I'm praying that he hits it out of the park
- 36:00Speaker 5: here soon, very soon, because every company is getting impacted
- 36:06Speaker 5: by oil prices and the tariffs. And it's hurting. It's hurting.
- 36:19Speaker 5: And you mentioned the other day about the job reports.
- 36:22Speaker 5: I don't even pay attention anymore because they're all garbage.
- 36:25Speaker 1: They're not accurate.
- 36:26Speaker 5: When Biden was in, it was all garbage. And one
- 36:30Speaker 5: of the things you look at is when they say
- 36:32Speaker 5: that the jobs are up and you automatically, well, you
- 36:35Speaker 5: definitely want to look at, are they government jobs? Because
- 36:37Speaker 5: that's just government expansion and them taking more of our money.
- 36:40Speaker 5: Or are they private sector jobs? Well, they're claiming they're
- 36:43Speaker 5: private sector jobs. But I don't buy it anyway just
- 36:45Speaker 5: because of what I'm seeing. I'm seeing highly talented people
- 36:50Speaker 5: struggling to get $ 60, 000 a year jobs when they're used
- 36:53Speaker 5: to making $ 150, 000 a year. And they can't get a
- 36:57Speaker 5: $ 60, 000 a year job right now.
- 36:59Speaker 7: So I don't buy those numbers.
- 37:03Speaker 5: But I would rather have Trump in office than, of course,
- 37:06Speaker 5: what our alternative was. But I think we're going to
- 37:10Speaker 5: be in trouble. We're going to be in trouble in
- 37:13Speaker 5: November if it doesn't turn around. And I'm not saying,
- 37:16Speaker 5: and I know we've talked about it, I'm not saying
- 37:18Speaker 5: that the VEC won't win the state. I'm wondering, though,
- 37:25Speaker 5: but I do think that Ohio is pink. And I
- 37:28Speaker 5: think Mahoning County is blue. I think we're going back
- 37:32Speaker 5: to blue in this county for a lot of reasons.
- 37:36Speaker 1: What would those be? I don't know. I think Mahoney
- 37:40Speaker 1: County has always been a 50-50. Not always been. It's
- 37:44Speaker 1: been a heavily Democrat area. Trump has turned it to
- 37:49Speaker 1: a more Republican area. But I don't think it's... Stand
- 37:53Speaker 1: by for me. It's the boss lady. I want to
- 37:55Speaker 1: talk more about that with her. Take more of your
- 37:57Speaker 1: calls straight ahead. With you tonight till 6, Ron Verb News,
- 37:59Speaker 1: Radio 570, WKVN. Stay close.
- 38:02Speaker 6: Radio 570, WKVN. All right, where's the boss lady, boss lady?
- 38:07Speaker 5: I'm right here.
- 38:08Speaker 1: No, I would say that we've gone red because of Trump.
- 38:14Speaker 1: But it's still got a lot of Democrat support. And
- 38:17Speaker 1: it's basically, if I had to assess Monning County, I
- 38:19Speaker 1: would say it's a 50-50 county at present. Would you agree?
- 38:25Speaker 4: I would.
- 38:26Speaker 5: I would say, yeah, at best, 50-50. I think they
- 38:31Speaker 5: showed us in the primary that they were going to
- 38:34Speaker 5: show up. They showed up at higher rates than they
- 38:38Speaker 5: have before. You look at our county compared to the
- 38:41Speaker 5: other counties in the state, and in our county, every
- 38:44Speaker 5: levy passed. That wasn't the sentiment in the state. A
- 38:47Speaker 5: lot of them failed, all of those levies. You know,
- 38:49Speaker 5: a lot of levies failed.
- 38:50Speaker 1: I go back to say, how many of them were renewals, though?
- 38:53Speaker 1: I mean, renewals, the odds overwhelmingly for passage. New levies,
- 39:00Speaker 1: not so much.
- 39:01Speaker 11: Yeah, I think you look at, though, the age declining population,
- 39:07Speaker 11: government assistance, and you look at the percentage of jobs
- 39:13Speaker 11: in our county that are coming from government.
- 39:16Speaker 5: So they're either government dependent or they're government dependent one
- 39:19Speaker 5: way or the other. They're either on assistance or employment,
- 39:22Speaker 5: even if it's through a subcontractor. I think that's hurting us,
- 39:28Speaker 5: you know, obviously with the levies. I think they were big,
- 39:31Speaker 5: you know, some of them were big fans of Trump.
- 39:33Speaker 5: And now you've got the economy that is also struggling.
- 39:39Speaker 11: And I don't know.
- 39:41Speaker 5: They We got to show up in November.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Yep.
- 39:47Speaker 5: And I just, I would not be shocked. I would
- 39:51Speaker 5: not be shocked if the county is blue and the
- 39:55Speaker 5: state squeaks it out.
- 39:58Speaker 4: I wouldn't be shocked at all.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Very interesting. I hope you're wrong on the county.
- 40:03Speaker 5: I hope I'm wrong. I hope I'm dead wrong. And
- 40:08Speaker 5: even if we're right, here's the thing.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Wait a minute. I got to pause. I got to go.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Thank you. We'll be back. ABC News, I'm Wayne Cabot.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Vice President Vance says a fund to pay aggrieved Americans
- 40:23Speaker 3: would be decided case by case. And about those who
- 40:26Speaker 3: attacked cops at the Capitol, ABC's Stephen Portnoy.
- 40:28Speaker 10: He did say the administration is not trying to give
- 40:32Speaker 10: money to anybody who attacked a police officer. And he
- 40:35Speaker 10: said that claims would be evaluated on a case by
- 40:37Speaker 10: case basis. He suggested some people who were duly convicted
- 40:41Speaker 10: by juries and sentenced by judges... may have been subject
- 40:44Speaker 10: to kangaroo courts with judges who mistreated them. Broadly, Vance
- 40:48Speaker 10: said the intent is to give money from this $ 1. 8
- 40:51Speaker 10: billion settlement fund to those, in his view, were really mistreated.
- 40:54Speaker 10: He even said Hunter Biden is welcome to apply.
- 40:57Speaker 3: ABC's Alex Stone is in San Diego, where three victims
- 41:00Speaker 3: of a mosque attack are now identified.
- 41:02Speaker 9: One was a manager for 40 years of the bookstore
- 41:05Speaker 9: here at the mosque and was a beloved member of
- 41:09Speaker 9: the staff inside the mosque. Another was a community member who,
- 41:14Speaker 9: according to the Islamic Center of San Diego, played a
- 41:17Speaker 9: major role in getting people away from the gunfire and
- 41:20Speaker 9: so that they were not hit getting them inside. And
- 41:23Speaker 9: then Amin Abdullah, the security guard here, who we understand
- 41:27Speaker 9: from the mosque that the shooters actually came in through
- 41:30Speaker 9: the main gate here, and then Abdullah fired on them,
- 41:35Speaker 9: and there was an exchange of gunfire, and he took
- 41:38Speaker 9: them on.
- 41:38Speaker 3: To Texas, where a senator suffers a setback.
- 41:41Speaker 12: President Trump promised months ago to endorse either incumbent Senator
- 41:44Speaker 12: John Cornyn or challenger Ken Paxton, adding that he would
- 41:47Speaker 12: ask the other to drop out. Well, he's finally made
- 41:50Speaker 12: his choice, throwing his support to Paxton. Cornyn says it'll
- 41:53Speaker 12: take more than just GOP votes to defeat Democrat James
- 41:56Speaker 12: Tallarico in November's general election.
- 41:59Speaker 2: You need independence and the occasional convert from the other party,
- 42:03Speaker 2: and Ken Paxton will get none of those.
- 42:05Speaker 12: Trump, by the way, has not asked Cornyn to end
- 42:07Speaker 12: his re-election campaign yet. Jim Ryan, ABC News, Dallas.
- 42:11Speaker 3: Dow down at the close, 321 points.
- 42:13Speaker 1: You're listening to ABC News.
