- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Of course, I am your host Clay and with me
- 0:30Speaker 2: like every single week except for last week. Well technically
- 0:34Speaker 2: it was still us, just not live it is Katie. Hi, guys, Katie,
- 0:41Speaker 2: I want to thank you for you know, being the
- 0:45Speaker 2: the social media person right now as my as my
- 0:50Speaker 2: life is slowly going into turmoil. And when I say that,
- 0:55Speaker 2: it's just more so because I don't have time. But yeah,
- 1:01Speaker 2: Katie was nice enough to let everybody know that we
- 1:04Speaker 2: were not feeling well and there's just something going around. Yeah,
- 1:08Speaker 2: something going around. Excuse me. I'm just getting over it.
- 1:14Speaker 2: One of my coworkers got it like hardcore. Like for me,
- 1:19Speaker 2: it was kind of like a gradual thing. I could
- 1:21Speaker 2: slowly feel it coming on, whereas my coworker it just
- 1:27Speaker 2: poof and boom. He had it. So I'm just trying
- 1:33Speaker 2: to now stay away from it so that way I
- 1:36Speaker 2: don't get sick again, because I don't like being sick.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I'm a baby when I'm sick.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Most men are.
- 1:48Speaker 2: But it's hitting Abby pretty hard because she is usually
- 1:52Speaker 2: not the one to complain and kind of just fight
- 1:55Speaker 2: through it and this one is kicking her butt. So
- 2:00Speaker 2: to try and be really quick with tonight's episode, guys,
- 2:05Speaker 2: we don't expect it to be too too long. Again,
- 2:07Speaker 2: our main conversation is going to be our retro review
- 2:12Speaker 2: of the Mandalorian season two, which was supposed to be
- 2:17Speaker 2: last week's but of course we did put that other
- 2:20Speaker 2: retro review out for the Comics and the Game Awards,
- 2:25Speaker 2: which really quick. As our first piece of topic, I
- 2:29Speaker 2: want to do an honorable mention because there is a
- 2:33Speaker 2: possible new planet being introduced in Star Wars Racers. Oh
- 2:44Speaker 2: and I need you to confirm if it's actually a
- 2:49Speaker 2: new planet. Lantana l A n Yeah, lant Anna l
- 2:59Speaker 2: A n A A in.
- 3:03Speaker 1: A A in a.
- 3:10Speaker 2: L a in t a A in a We have
- 3:13Speaker 2: the Wikipedia page.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Nope, the only appearance is in Star Wars Galactic Racer.
- 3:23Speaker 2: New planet confirmed. There is some new footage today shown
- 3:31Speaker 2: by Star Wars Galactic Racer. It said speed through lush
- 3:35Speaker 2: tropical rainforest and pools of volcanic lava on the planet
- 3:40Speaker 2: land Anna. So we're getting new planets, guys. This is
- 3:46Speaker 2: pretty cool. I like the idea of being able to
- 3:51Speaker 2: create lore in this because then in the future, we're
- 3:58Speaker 2: gonna read a book or we're going to, uh watch
- 4:02Speaker 2: a movie on the big screen, and we're gonna see
- 4:05Speaker 2: Lantana and we're gonna be like, that's because a galactic racer.
- 4:09Speaker 2: And we now know that the only reason why that
- 4:12Speaker 2: planet exists is because of a video game. And I
- 4:14Speaker 2: think that's really really cool.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And this isn't the first time planets have been created
- 4:20Speaker 1: for video games, but it's always nice to see. I
- 4:23Speaker 1: know we have a ton of planets, guys, but it's
- 4:26Speaker 1: a galaxy far far away. What's one more planet.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I see now? Now, I would hate to be the
- 4:36Speaker 2: poor bastard that now has to edit the galaxy map.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I think they're only doing it in spurts for this
- 4:48Speaker 1: specific reason, Like we have a new planet for Darth
- 4:51Speaker 1: Maul that I'm fairly certain has not been added to true. Yeah,
- 4:56Speaker 1: so they're probably only doing it like once the year
- 5:00Speaker 1: and going okay, here's where we're updating now. So and
- 5:04Speaker 1: they probably just have one giant meeting this as these
- 5:07Speaker 1: are all the planets we added this year. Where do
- 5:09Speaker 1: they go on the map? That?
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that would make that would make sense. And I
- 5:14Speaker 2: wonder who gets to choose that, you know, is it
- 5:17Speaker 2: the people who create the planet or is there a like,
- 5:24Speaker 2: oh gosh, who's the word what's the word?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Story group?
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yes? Story group? But no, no, there is a word
- 5:32Speaker 2: for a person who specializes in maps. What's that word?
- 5:36Speaker 2: Uh uh? Pograph? Yes? Is there like a lucasfilm? I
- 5:42Speaker 2: don't know. That would be actually amazing if like their
- 5:45Speaker 2: only job was this one galaxy map and they get
- 5:49Speaker 2: to work once a year.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Jason Fry, I think did the bulk of the
- 5:55Speaker 1: map in the first place, So I wonder if he's
- 5:59Speaker 1: kind of taken on the role. I know other people contributed,
- 6:02Speaker 1: but I know he was the one who like posted
- 6:04Speaker 1: the most about it. Yeah, so it could potentially be him.
- 6:11Speaker 1: He wrote the Last Jedi as well as some other books,
- 6:14Speaker 1: so he has some other experience. But like i'd imagine,
- 6:19Speaker 1: the story group goes, Okay, here's the planets you can include,
- 6:24Speaker 1: and then kind of the author decides, Okay, hey, we're
- 6:28Speaker 1: going to create a new planet, or we're going to
- 6:31Speaker 1: actually include this guy too, because you want to make
- 6:34Speaker 1: sure right that you're not crossing over story threads that
- 6:38Speaker 1: are happening on other planets. Basically is probably what's happening,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and you also want, like you want to see new things,
- 6:48Speaker 1: Like we all talk about how we're sick and tired
- 6:50Speaker 1: of tattoo, so this is precisely that reason. So it'll
- 6:56Speaker 1: be interesting to see.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm really excited about it. I'm really really excited.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Now the second piece of news really the first piece
- 7:05Speaker 2: of news, since that one was just a little tid
- 7:07Speaker 2: bit honorable mention. Katie sent me a Instagram post of
- 7:15Speaker 2: a possible book confirmation.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's already on his website. It's doctor Chris
- 7:24Speaker 1: Kempshall who wrote The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire,
- 7:28Speaker 1: which is a non fiction fiction book. Yes, it's a
- 7:34Speaker 1: non fiction book set in the galaxy of Star Warsh Every.
- 7:41Speaker 2: High wouldn't they all be nonfiction? Technically because it's.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Hi, I'm filtered, so technic So no, because it's the
- 7:57Speaker 1: genre of book, right, so every Star Wars is fiction.
- 8:04Speaker 1: But in this case we said, okay, we want to
- 8:06Speaker 1: know the biography of Like Kristan Baber wrote Skywalker Family,
- 8:11Speaker 1: a war biography on the Skywalker Family. Kem Shaw wrote
- 8:15Speaker 1: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire from what's
- 8:18Speaker 1: his Name's face? In the Rise of Skywalker the Hobbit dude.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yes, correct, And so this.
- 8:26Speaker 1: One he is going to be releasing in October twenty
- 8:29Speaker 1: twenty six, again with DK Books, and it is called
- 8:33Speaker 1: Star Wars Star Pilots, and it says this in universe
- 8:38Speaker 1: work features the voices, words, and experiences of familiar and
- 8:42Speaker 1: brand new starfighter pilots from both the Rebel Alliance and
- 8:45Speaker 1: the Galactic Empire. Most importantly, it is produced by probably
- 8:49Speaker 1: the greatest star pilot in history, Ledge and Tilly's. He
- 8:53Speaker 1: gives us an unrivaled level of insight and expertise. It
- 8:57Speaker 1: explores the full depth and breadth of what it means
- 9:00Speaker 1: meant to pilot starfighters in combat in the galaxy far
- 9:04Speaker 1: far away. I believe that when you have seen the
- 9:06Speaker 1: conflict through the eyes of the pilots who participated in it,
- 9:09Speaker 1: you will never look at the Galactic Civil War in
- 9:11Speaker 1: the same way ever. Again. More details, including the final
- 9:15Speaker 1: cover for Star Wars Star Pilots, will appear in due course,
- 9:20Speaker 1: so there's no cover or anything, but it is coming
- 9:22Speaker 1: out in October obviously, y'all know me. I love me
- 9:28Speaker 1: some Dentillies. This may get me to read it because
- 9:31Speaker 1: I struggle with the genre of nonfiction in general. So
- 9:35Speaker 1: that's why I have Skywalker, A Family at War, and
- 9:38Speaker 1: I have The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire,
- 9:41Speaker 1: and I started both and I haven't finished book because
- 9:44Speaker 1: the nonfiction thing really throws me. It's not something that
- 9:49Speaker 1: I typically enjoy reading. So I'm hopeful to read this
- 9:53Speaker 1: one because it's a white gentillies book, and I'm always
- 9:55Speaker 1: here for white genentillies.
- 10:00Speaker 2: And so now we get to add that to the
- 10:03Speaker 2: list of books to review in October. And I was
- 10:10Speaker 2: just thinking, we don't have a huge list for twenty twenty.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Six, so let me tell you what is releasing, because
- 10:24Speaker 1: uten me Utenie is where I pull all of my
- 10:27Speaker 1: release schedule stuff for and so if they have like
- 10:33Speaker 1: formats and everything that you can check out. So like
- 10:35Speaker 1: if I go to adult novels, Legacy, which is the
- 10:39Speaker 1: Leah Ray book is released in July twenty eighth, and
- 10:43Speaker 1: then Rain of the Empire, Edge of the Abyss, which
- 10:48Speaker 1: is the last book that we have on the calendar
- 10:50Speaker 1: for Raine mouse World's adult book, is releasing September fifteenth,
- 10:57Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. And then if we go to the
- 11:01Speaker 1: young adult almost the only one we have right now
- 11:03Speaker 1: is July twenty first, twenty twenty six.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I like stars Stars, yes.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So yes, July will be.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Packed July, then it goes to September and then fall
- 11:16Speaker 2: October with Star with Star pilots. So we actually don't
- 11:22Speaker 2: have a crazy year for new books guys. Of course,
- 11:26Speaker 2: if you guys are following us on Patreon, we are
- 11:31Speaker 2: literally reading a book every single month.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Oh gosh, how far I made it?
- 11:39Speaker 2: Oh, Katie, that's something I wanted to update you on.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I think I'm only on chapter ten. I I'm scared.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I'm on chapter nine.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Okay, cool, Cool, Okay, We're good. Okay.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I did go ahead and bread the prologue even though
- 11:56Speaker 1: we're not talking about it, I would ahead and read.
- 11:58Speaker 2: It, so okay. So full disclosure, guys.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Guys, we're talking about Star by Star.
- 12:03Speaker 2: We're we're talking about Starbuy Star, which is the next
- 12:06Speaker 2: edition in the New Jedi Orders series that we are
- 12:11Speaker 2: recording for Patreon. And when we open this book. When
- 12:16Speaker 2: I opened this book the other day, I was like,
- 12:21Speaker 2: this is a ninety page prologue with eight chapters. What
- 12:32Speaker 2: is going on? Because I saw one, the little chapter one,
- 12:39Speaker 2: and I started reading it, and I was like, this
- 12:40Speaker 2: has already happened. What is going on? What? What in
- 12:45Speaker 2: the world is this a recount?
- 12:47Speaker 1: So guys, if you get the map, if you get
- 12:50Speaker 1: the oh my gosh, what is the type of this book?
- 12:54Speaker 1: Mass market?
- 12:55Speaker 2: Mass market?
- 12:56Speaker 1: Math market book? The Prologue is an ebook novella that
- 13:03Speaker 1: was released before Edge of Victory one and it kind
- 13:08Speaker 1: of covers what Han and Leia do during Edge of
- 13:10Speaker 1: Victory one and the reconciliation kind of because you do
- 13:16Speaker 1: need that for book two. I forgot it was in here.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Otherwise I would have told Clay and we would have
- 13:21Speaker 1: talked about it. With Edge of Victory one.
- 13:26Speaker 2: It was. It was a little bit jarring. So I
- 13:30Speaker 2: texted Katie. I was like, what the world is this?
- 13:32Speaker 2: She lets me know about it, and I'm like, got
- 13:34Speaker 2: it skipping it now? And I started reading, and guys,
- 13:41Speaker 2: we have chosen Katie has set the marker for the
- 13:45Speaker 2: first part of this book because it's a hefty book.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Adding eight chapters to this book is not even fair. Okay,
- 13:52Speaker 2: not even fair. That should be cut out of the book.
- 13:55Speaker 2: But we're reading the first forty three chapters for part
- 13:59Speaker 2: one of Star by Star and My God I was like, Okay,
- 14:05Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to read this, but I also have
- 14:07Speaker 2: to read Resistance Reborn for next week, which I was
- 14:11Speaker 2: able to get on Libby, thank goodness. And yeah, it's
- 14:16Speaker 2: just complete chaos, complete chaos when I started reading that book.
- 14:20Speaker 2: But Travis Mitchell is in the chest saying, hey, guys,
- 14:24Speaker 2: just read Master of Evil, easily the best Wader book
- 14:27Speaker 2: I've ever read. We still have to record, Yes, we
- 14:32Speaker 2: still have to re record this for our second review,
- 14:36Speaker 2: because if people don't know when we did our first
- 14:40Speaker 2: review on this, Katie just read the book too fast
- 14:46Speaker 2: and skipped an entire page and lost.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Too fast because I read it twice, so I had
- 14:56Speaker 1: time to read it twice. No, I can scam read it.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I was gonna say, you read it the normal pace
- 15:04Speaker 2: for you, but coincidentally, the one piece of information that
- 15:11Speaker 2: you were missing you skipped twice.
- 15:14Speaker 3: So so yeah, guys, you can go back and listen
- 15:28Speaker 3: to our original review because Clay.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Promptly corrected me and you get to hear probably I
- 15:35Speaker 1: think it was like probably ten minutes of like what
- 15:38Speaker 1: the fuck did I miss?
- 15:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Katie was super lost, which again, guys, when
- 15:48Speaker 2: looking at the spectrum of Star Wars fandom and who
- 15:53Speaker 2: holds the crown. I will easily give that crown to
- 15:57Speaker 2: Katie every single time. But when we read Master of
- 16:01Speaker 2: Egel and when we were reviewing it, Katie was like
- 16:04Speaker 2: saying something wild and I was like, what are you
- 16:06Speaker 2: talking about? Like that's totally not what the book was
- 16:10Speaker 2: trying to imply. It implied this, and Katie looked at
- 16:14Speaker 2: me like, what are you even talking about? Like like
- 16:18Speaker 2: I as if I had read a completely different book.
- 16:23Speaker 2: It was gold, It was great. I highly recommend going
- 16:27Speaker 2: to read Master of Egel because it actually was the
- 16:31Speaker 2: start of the conversation of last year between having two
- 16:40Speaker 2: books that year release with a what did what? Did
- 16:46Speaker 2: we describe it as a uh not sincere description of
- 16:54Speaker 2: the book?
- 16:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, the synopsis didn't feel very accurate.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Yeah, so we had a very big opinion on that.
- 17:03Speaker 2: So I highly recommend going to read Master of Eagle
- 17:06Speaker 2: for that opinion. And then of course the very ending
- 17:08Speaker 2: of the review where Katie completely just was like a
- 17:13Speaker 2: deer in headlights that entire time.
- 17:15Speaker 1: It was I don't know how much time you edited
- 17:17Speaker 1: that out of that, but it was no.
- 17:20Speaker 2: I had to edit out a lot of like because
- 17:22Speaker 2: you were like just flipping through the book and there's
- 17:25Speaker 2: a lot of dead air, and I was like, okay, yeah,
- 17:27Speaker 2: taking that out, taking that out. Okay, that's where her
- 17:31Speaker 2: reaction is, Okay, cool.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it was because we don't Yeah, we don't get
- 17:38Speaker 1: the hard copies, and I do a lot better reading
- 17:39Speaker 1: a hard copy. I just read, I am, I read
- 17:43Speaker 1: with better intention, And so yeah, that one. We do
- 17:47Speaker 1: plan this year to go back in and reread that
- 17:52Speaker 1: and record the second review. It just got busy in
- 17:55Speaker 1: the back half of last year.
- 17:57Speaker 2: This is a very interesting way of looking at that book, Travis.
- 18:01Speaker 2: I like where your head is going. We have so
- 18:03Speaker 2: many stories of Vader being Vader showing why Anakin became Vader,
- 18:07Speaker 2: but Master of Evil is the first one that explained
- 18:10Speaker 2: how he could become Anakin Skywalker. Again, that's a pretty
- 18:15Speaker 2: interesting That's an interesting way to look at what happened
- 18:18Speaker 2: at that point of the book. So I'm gonna keep
- 18:21Speaker 2: that in mind when I do my reread when we
- 18:23Speaker 2: talk about it again. But guys, that is it for
- 18:28Speaker 2: the news our main topic tonight, and again we do
- 18:33Speaker 2: have to keep it a little short because my household
- 18:36Speaker 2: is feeling under the weather. I don't want to keep
- 18:37Speaker 2: them away from their beds for too long. So let's
- 18:41Speaker 2: get down to the main conversation. Our retro review Part three,
- 18:49Speaker 2: Mando season two. We're talking about the entire season this
- 18:53Speaker 2: time around.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Yes, and guys, if you are interested, we do have
- 18:59Speaker 1: all the podcast had just started when season two was
- 19:05Speaker 1: coming out, so we have individual episodic reviews for the
- 19:10Speaker 1: whole of the season that you can go back and look.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I'm sure Clay can go in and link if he
- 19:15Speaker 1: so chooses.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I will go in keyword search Mando season.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Two, or you could go to my handy dandy review spreadsheets.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Oh that's right, you made it even easier for me.
- 19:30Speaker 2: That's even better. Yes, I will go grab the episodes
- 19:33Speaker 2: for Mando season two and I will paste them onto
- 19:39Speaker 2: the show notes, so that way you guys can go
- 19:42Speaker 2: and listen to those if you choose to listen to them.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Before we talked about this.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Retro Yeah, and the first time Clay is talking about
- 19:53Speaker 1: this season because I don't think you had done any
- 19:55Speaker 1: Star Wars Lionce episodes at that point, so.
- 19:59Speaker 2: We actually had me guessed on the first episode because
- 20:05Speaker 2: we all because I think the debut of season two.
- 20:10Speaker 2: I think there was like maybe like a total of
- 20:12Speaker 2: like five of us. I think Travis Hines from DC
- 20:16Speaker 2: Alliance was on there. I think maybe Joe was on
- 20:18Speaker 2: there as well, and myself because I specifically remember talking
- 20:24Speaker 2: about and I think it's you know, good to go
- 20:27Speaker 2: on starting this conversation. Yea very first episode Create Dragon.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Absolutely amazing to see it in live action.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I probays forget that it's a shark. I think I
- 20:41Speaker 1: say that every time a dragon image comes up. I
- 20:44Speaker 1: forget it's a land shark.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Basically, yeah, And it is glorious. It's awesome. I love it.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I love the way it looks it's a Create Dragon
- 20:56Speaker 2: shark worm like that's the easiest way to kind of
- 20:59Speaker 2: explain it. And I love this episode because again with
- 21:08Speaker 2: season two. First off, we go somewhere familiar tattooing, right,
- 21:14Speaker 2: That's that's the first thing. And then we see familiar
- 21:19Speaker 2: faces such as the Tuscan Raiders. But then we also
- 21:25Speaker 2: see a familiar face in the armor of Bubba.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Fat and this is one of the first book character
- 21:35Speaker 1: introductions into live action. And of course what's his name?
- 21:41Speaker 1: Chuck win Digg is not credited for creating this character
- 21:44Speaker 1: because Star Wars doesn't like to do that, but it's
- 21:47Speaker 1: still pretty cool. We won't dwell on that too too much.
- 21:54Speaker 1: But I really enjoy seeing his character and I love
- 21:58Speaker 1: the fact that he comes back in play later with
- 22:00Speaker 1: bo with that, which we'll talk about in two weeks ye.
- 22:03Speaker 2: So, and again, guys, this is only a retro review.
- 22:07Speaker 2: We're only kind of doing a retrospective, like kind of condensed,
- 22:11Speaker 2: so we're not gonna stay super focused on too many things,
- 22:15Speaker 2: and we're kind of just gonna bounce around and talk
- 22:16Speaker 2: about the episodes overall.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I love the music. We just gotta go ahead and
- 22:23Speaker 1: get that all the way again, Ludwig kills it. There
- 22:27Speaker 1: is no way if Sands or bought about it, he
- 22:29Speaker 1: killed it.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I love the music here as well. Uh, I don't
- 22:37Speaker 2: think like we did. We did talk about I think,
- 22:40Speaker 2: like maybe two weeks ago, how we really like to
- 22:45Speaker 2: see how the music has evolved from John Williams, but
- 22:50Speaker 2: also how John Williams has inspired others to still have
- 22:55Speaker 2: that Star Wars feeling inside music. So absolutely of that
- 23:00Speaker 2: as well. This season, guys, this whole entire season is
- 23:08Speaker 2: focused around the idea, of course, of getting Grogu, who
- 23:16Speaker 2: we finally have the name revealed this season grow.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Episode thirteen, so we get halfway through the season, yeah,
- 23:26Speaker 1: more than and it's like, dude, we're just now learning
- 23:29Speaker 1: the name. I remember being super mad about that and going,
- 23:34Speaker 1: I ge't given the character name, But did we really
- 23:37Speaker 1: have to wait that long for it?
- 23:40Speaker 2: Well, Like the thing is, when we get the name reveal,
- 23:44Speaker 2: it's so nonchalant because again, Ahsoka is just like da
- 23:49Speaker 2: oh Grogu, and even Mando's like Grogu, Who the hell
- 23:55Speaker 2: is that? Oh that's his name? Like totally you know,
- 24:01Speaker 2: but we we know that Mando is trying to get
- 24:09Speaker 2: Grogu to his people. Yep. This is very important to
- 24:14Speaker 2: Mando because of the way he was raised and he
- 24:19Speaker 2: was able to find his people. So I really do
- 24:26Speaker 2: enjoy this season. I think season two we had its
- 24:31Speaker 2: problems with the things like the volume. Yeah, we we
- 24:37Speaker 2: had our criticisms over like oh, especially I think it's
- 24:41Speaker 2: episode three maybe episode four with Bokatan how it's like, oh, yeah,
- 24:47Speaker 2: like you can definitely tell this is volume technology.
- 24:54Speaker 1: But yeah, there's so many going around and around the ship,
- 24:57Speaker 1: like you this looks really familiar.
- 25:01Speaker 2: But the one thing that I will still give credit
- 25:04Speaker 2: to when it comes to the volume. It's great technology.
- 25:08Speaker 2: The use of it too much is what bothers us.
- 25:13Speaker 1: One because it really lends itself to that close quarter
- 25:19Speaker 1: combat fight where you can dive into it a little
- 25:23Speaker 1: bit deeper. But when you just are going from place
- 25:26Speaker 1: to place, probably a bigger set would make a little
- 25:29Speaker 1: more sense than just having the volume being an effect,
- 25:36Speaker 1: because you just can tell that you're going around and around.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I do really love the Heiress episode still, which is
- 25:45Speaker 1: episode three. I just love the frog lady. I just
- 25:49Speaker 1: love her, and I love the fact that she was
- 25:51Speaker 1: able to reunite with her husband, and most of the
- 25:54Speaker 1: eggs made it back safely, even though grogu.
- 26:00Speaker 2: I almost completely forgot that growed you eight. Majority of
- 26:05Speaker 2: the eggs.
- 26:08Speaker 1: She's like, this is my last this is my last clutch.
- 26:13Speaker 2: This is the only way our bloodline will ever survive.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Egg Grog goes over here just like oh yum, absolutely insane.
- 26:25Speaker 2: And then there's stuff. There is some stuff that like
- 26:28Speaker 2: is I rolly in that episode episode two. You know
- 26:33Speaker 2: we me and you, we don't do scary. We don't
- 26:37Speaker 2: do scary, we don't do horror. And spiders the Spider
- 26:43Speaker 2: episode gave me anxiety. But there's one scene that I
- 26:47Speaker 2: laughed out loud and rolled my eyes at. It's when
- 26:51Speaker 2: she uses her tongue to grab her clothes and in
- 26:55Speaker 2: a blink of an eye, she's dressed. Like the cam
- 27:00Speaker 2: returns for just a split second, and then all of
- 27:02Speaker 2: a sudden, she's fully dressed and ready to run and
- 27:05Speaker 2: ready to fight with Mando. But like, we also get
- 27:10Speaker 2: another cameo from uh filony on this episode as well,
- 27:15Speaker 2: and we get oh, shoot, what's his name?
- 27:18Speaker 1: We get uh Carson for the first time, Yes, Carson,
- 27:22Speaker 1: he what is he?
- 27:24Speaker 2: Is it for the first time? Yeah?
- 27:27Speaker 1: He wasn't in season one?
- 27:29Speaker 2: Oh that's right, it is for the first time. And
- 27:30Speaker 2: then we see him a second time in episode five
- 27:36Speaker 2: or episode six, I think it's episode six, actually yeah,
- 27:40Speaker 2: I think so, where we get the oh so famous
- 27:44Speaker 2: jeans guy that is now unfortunately edited out. Uh I
- 27:49Speaker 2: remember that being all the craze in the debut of
- 27:54Speaker 2: episode six.
- 27:56Speaker 1: See, and I always missed that stuff, Like people were
- 27:58Speaker 1: posting about it on Twitter and I was like, what.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Why And it's so silly, Like I kind of like,
- 28:10Speaker 2: I kind of wish they would have kept it in
- 28:13Speaker 2: but of course now with the new age of technology,
- 28:17Speaker 2: they're able to edit it, they're able to put it
- 28:19Speaker 2: back onto the streaming service, and it's just like it
- 28:22Speaker 2: never happened, you know. Yeah. But throughout this season we
- 28:29Speaker 2: have the trials of trying to find out where Grogu
- 28:34Speaker 2: is going to go. We need to find a Jedi,
- 28:36Speaker 2: all these different things we find Ahsoka. Ahsoka refuses to
- 28:42Speaker 2: train him because he's just too in his own head
- 28:47Speaker 2: type of ordeal. We learned that Grogu is scared, he's
- 28:50Speaker 2: too attached to Dinjar, and he's angry. We see a
- 28:54Speaker 2: little bit of that anger at the end of episode
- 28:56Speaker 2: six where we see him met A on the rock
- 29:02Speaker 2: and when he gets kidnapped in the ship, we see
- 29:06Speaker 2: him use the force. He's choking out stormtroopers. He's getting angry.
- 29:10Speaker 2: We see that there. So it's it's I look at
- 29:15Speaker 2: this and I'm still interested in how he is going
- 29:18Speaker 2: to grow, you know, We eventually, you know, I don't
- 29:23Speaker 2: know if it'll be in our lifetime or not, but
- 29:26Speaker 2: we will eventually see a Grogu that will most likely
- 29:32Speaker 2: be able to defend himself, whether that be with an
- 29:37Speaker 2: actual lightsaber or not. But is force sensitive, and of
- 29:42Speaker 2: course that always brings about the conversation of hey, is
- 29:47Speaker 2: he going to go down the wrong path? Is he
- 29:49Speaker 2: not gonna you know, is he gonna be on the
- 29:51Speaker 2: side of the light and things like that, And we
- 29:54Speaker 2: see a little bit of that anger and we can
- 29:56Speaker 2: we know from past experience with other force users that
- 30:00Speaker 2: can mean, you know, some dark stuff.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Yeah, And I do love getting to see Typhon. I
- 30:15Speaker 1: love the history that Felony and Fabreau bring into this
- 30:19Speaker 1: season with Typhon, even with the Jedi episode, with bringing
- 30:25Speaker 1: in that connection to Thron and everything, it just really
- 30:30Speaker 1: works out super well. And uh it's one of the
- 30:35Speaker 1: few times that I think that Folony has done a
- 30:39Speaker 1: really good job manipulating things for characters that don't revolve
- 30:44Speaker 1: around him like once that he created, So I do
- 30:50Speaker 1: like that. I also love the Mayfeld episode, which is
- 30:54Speaker 1: episode seven, directed by Rick Famiua. He does an incredible
- 30:58Speaker 1: job with this and this entire episode that's actually written
- 31:00Speaker 1: by him. But that's the one where they go to
- 31:05Speaker 1: they go to find the location of maff Gideon's cruiser
- 31:08Speaker 1: on wrack and we get to see din Jarn take
- 31:15Speaker 1: off his helmet for the very first time with humans around. Yeah,
- 31:22Speaker 1: and so it's a really powerful episode that just shows
- 31:28Speaker 1: you a lot of where Den Jarn is as a character.
- 31:32Speaker 1: And I know, we go, we can go on and
- 31:34Speaker 1: on about Oh gosh, I can't where is there? Why
- 31:40Speaker 1: aren't they listed in the character list?
- 31:43Speaker 2: Oh the Doubles? Yeah yeah, uh uh oh my god.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Literally I had the name and then it just poofed
- 31:59Speaker 2: right out of my head.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Other performers there we got Latif Crowder and.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Brindan Wayne Wayne. Yeah, there we go.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Yeah, they do an incredible job with the performance. But
- 32:11Speaker 1: really and truly, Pedro Pascal makes it in there.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Yeah says uh.
- 32:19Speaker 1: The Believer with Bill Burr is the best episode in
- 32:21Speaker 1: the series in my opinion, but honestly made me disappointed
- 32:24Speaker 1: with the finale by comparison. Yeah, I we're about to
- 32:28Speaker 1: dive into that. But yeah, it's an incredible episode. It
- 32:33Speaker 1: just goes to show you, also what things can really
- 32:37Speaker 1: happen when Favreau and Foloni aren't writing. Yeah, well the show.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I know we harp on that a lot, but
- 32:48Speaker 2: I I one of my favorite Uh. I think it's
- 32:52Speaker 2: in this episode at the very end of this episode,
- 32:55Speaker 2: or it may have been in the very end of
- 32:58Speaker 2: episode six, we actually get to see a hollow scent
- 33:05Speaker 2: to uh uh oh shoot, I'm I'm I'm Gideon, Gideon,
- 33:11Speaker 2: and it's Den Jarren saying like, you don't know what
- 33:15Speaker 2: you just unleashed. You don't know how much that child
- 33:18Speaker 2: cares or how much I care about that child. And
- 33:22Speaker 2: it's just such like a very intimidating hollow and you
- 33:28Speaker 2: actually see for a split second Gideon like flinch just
- 33:35Speaker 2: to Tad. And I love the acting on that. It's
- 33:39Speaker 2: just like, it's so so good, it's so so good.
- 33:43Speaker 2: But the finale, this is gonna be the very first
- 33:47Speaker 2: time that I get to talk about this finale with you. Yeah,
- 33:51Speaker 2: I am pretty sure. I'll have to even go back
- 33:55Speaker 2: and listen to the finale episode myself to see who
- 33:58Speaker 2: all was on it. But the rescue, the rescue, there
- 34:06Speaker 2: was so many conversations that were going on even before
- 34:17Speaker 2: the reveal happened.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Yeah, who's the Jedi that Goro who's reaching out to.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so there was Oh, it's all those people who
- 34:31Speaker 2: just love to think that makes Window is still alive. Oh,
- 34:35Speaker 2: it's gonna be mixed Window. This is how they bring
- 34:37Speaker 2: him back. There's gonna be so awesome. Blah blah uh.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Calcastes was another one that people had wanted to have
- 34:46Speaker 2: be in the reveal. Here so many, so many conversations
- 34:52Speaker 2: and rumors and theories, and then what did we get?
- 34:59Speaker 2: Cg Luke Skywalker.
- 35:04Speaker 1: I so I love the idea. I hate the execution
- 35:11Speaker 1: because it fully makes sense that Luke Skywalker would be
- 35:17Speaker 1: the one that catches the communication from Grogo. You can't
- 35:24Speaker 1: tell me in a million years. Yes, there's other Jedi
- 35:27Speaker 1: out there that we know of, but you can't tell
- 35:30Speaker 1: me that Luke Skywalker doesn't make sense coming into play.
- 35:36Speaker 1: I see Travis's thing. I'm gonna finish my thought because
- 35:39Speaker 1: other way he'll lose it. Luke makes perfect sense coming
- 35:45Speaker 1: in the CGI and deep fake technology. Sure, is it remarkable? Absolutely?
- 35:56Speaker 1: You can't tell me that he doesn't look lifeless like now,
- 36:03Speaker 1: don't get I still got super pumped up seeing him
- 36:08Speaker 1: come in and defeat the dark Trooper bots and everything.
- 36:11Speaker 1: I will always be a Luke Scottwalker. I'm a little
- 36:14Speaker 1: biased in that regard. I just love legends. Okay, so
- 36:17Speaker 1: I love getting to see Luke be the hero. But man,
- 36:21Speaker 1: I looked at that deep thake again, and I was like,
- 36:23Speaker 1: this sucks.
- 36:25Speaker 2: It, Like, at that point, it's just a thought of Like, guys,
- 36:36Speaker 2: it would have been a hundred times easier and cheaper
- 36:43Speaker 2: and cheaper for you to go with somebody else. At
- 36:49Speaker 2: this point around we know that Luke is in fact
- 36:55Speaker 2: training others in the art of being a Jedi. You
- 37:01Speaker 2: could have added new pieces of lore just for the sake,
- 37:06Speaker 2: Like how awesome would it have been for all of
- 37:08Speaker 2: us to be like, oh my god, it's Luke Skywalker.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Oh my god, it is Luke Skywalker. Oh my god,
- 37:12Speaker 2: is Luke Skywalker face reveal? And it's somebody nobody fucking knows.
- 37:18Speaker 2: That would have gotten me excited that much more because
- 37:21Speaker 2: I'm like, oh shit, new characters, what is this? You know?
- 37:26Speaker 2: And we didn't get that. We got a horrible deep
- 37:31Speaker 2: fake of Luke Skywalker, emotionless, lifeless. The only piece of
- 37:37Speaker 2: emotion we got in that entire freaking scene was R
- 37:41Speaker 2: two D two, a droid gave more emotion than freaking
- 37:47Speaker 2: Luke Skywalker himself. Absolutely Abysmo Travis says, I am probably
- 37:52Speaker 2: the only one, but the finale didn't work for me
- 37:55Speaker 2: at all. It felt hollow as besides Bubba Fett. No
- 37:59Speaker 2: one there cares about Grogu. All have ulterior motives.
- 38:04Speaker 1: I think, did you mean din jarring here? Because I
- 38:08Speaker 1: know in your next message you said Boba does not
- 38:11Speaker 1: like I know Boba made the vows, so that's why
- 38:13Speaker 1: he cares. Yeah, But like talking presence wise, I think
- 38:16Speaker 1: din Jarn. But I do feel like despite the actress
- 38:23Speaker 1: Kara Dune actually cares about Grogu and that's why she
- 38:26Speaker 1: gets involved in like may Feld and everything. Yeah, so
- 38:32Speaker 1: we'll disagree with you there, and yeah, I can agree
- 38:37Speaker 1: with Bokatan and everything because din Jarn is basically using
- 38:41Speaker 1: them like he they used him. Hey you won something,
- 38:46Speaker 1: I need help, I need assistance.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and so, but he says I love the Dark
- 38:53Speaker 2: Trooper fight, which was an oddly specific homage to Terminator Salvation.
- 38:57Speaker 2: But I felt Grief, Mayfield and Boba should have been
- 39:01Speaker 2: present in the rescue. Looking at the deep fake, the
- 39:04Speaker 2: clear issue I notice is that they put Mark Hamill's
- 39:07Speaker 2: face on the wrong head shape. Mark Campbell had a
- 39:11Speaker 2: rounded triangular jaw. The actor they put the face on
- 39:16Speaker 2: as a has a square one yeah yeah, or Mark Hamill,
- 39:20Speaker 2: excuse me, has a round triangular jaw and the actor
- 39:23Speaker 2: that they put him on had a square jawline.
- 39:27Speaker 1: That doesn't like if they had just said, Okay, this
- 39:31Speaker 1: actor is replacing him, not the end of the world.
- 39:35Speaker 1: But yeah, if you put Mark Hamill's young face on
- 39:38Speaker 1: the wrong actor on the wrong face problems.
- 39:42Speaker 2: It's going to look weird. Especially as a character that
- 39:46Speaker 2: is iconic like Luke Skywalker, people are going to immediately
- 39:50Speaker 2: recognize very different features, right yep, So yeah, totally agree.
- 39:58Speaker 2: But this does introduce one of the biggest points of
- 40:03Speaker 2: what will be eventually season three that we talked about
- 40:06Speaker 2: with the dark Saber. How, of course excuse me, Dinjarren
- 40:13Speaker 2: defeats Gideon in combat, takes the saber, and of course
- 40:19Speaker 2: Bokatan cannot take it, which I think is super hypocritical
- 40:24Speaker 2: by the way, all of this like, and again I
- 40:27Speaker 2: know there's different factions of Mandalorians and all this other stuff.
- 40:30Speaker 2: They call denjar In a piece of the cult and
- 40:33Speaker 2: not being able to show his face, but then Bocatan's like,
- 40:36Speaker 2: I can't take that saber, like it's literally the same thing,
- 40:40Speaker 2: Like it's it's literally the same thing. Guys.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Well, I think the the so the reason bo can't
- 40:51Speaker 1: take it is because of what happened in Rebels, so
- 40:56Speaker 1: being gives her the Dark Saber and then the nine
- 40:59Speaker 1: of Thousand Tiers happens.
- 41:05Speaker 2: You know, I don't think about that.
- 41:07Speaker 1: So that's why she's very point blank like, Hey, I'm
- 41:11Speaker 1: fighting Gideon because I have to win the Saber. I
- 41:15Speaker 1: can't just be handed it. I have to win it.
- 41:18Speaker 1: And but the problem is is that she doesn't communicate
- 41:21Speaker 1: that specification to Din.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Yeah, that you can't blame den Jarren if you didn't
- 41:32Speaker 2: give him all of the information, you know. And then
- 41:37Speaker 2: Travis also says, I meant Den is the only one
- 41:40Speaker 2: who there for Grogu Bubba leads the fires away, then disappears.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Kara wants Gideon, Bo wants the ship, and the rest
- 41:50Speaker 2: are kind of randoms. It's cool, but a bit hollow,
- 41:54Speaker 2: And I could agree to that sentiment.
- 41:56Speaker 1: I can agree to an extent.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Yeah, but yeah, that is really it for the episode
- 42:06Speaker 2: or for the season retro. I think we will have,
- 42:12Speaker 2: of course, more to talk about with this finale when
- 42:16Speaker 2: we talk about the Book of Bovaveet, because there was
- 42:22Speaker 2: a lot of words here in the g u a
- 42:26Speaker 2: and in gieg verse. I know Travis and Taylor and
- 42:32Speaker 2: all them had a lot to say in the idea
- 42:37Speaker 2: of what the season finale of season two really meant
- 42:43Speaker 2: in retrospect of all things. So, Katie, do you have
- 42:48Speaker 2: anything else to add for this retro?
- 42:51Speaker 1: I do just want to shut up because Travis has
- 42:53Speaker 1: been in here the whole time. So in regards to
- 42:56Speaker 1: Cobb vanth making your parents, He's said they describe convent
- 43:00Speaker 1: a bit differently in the books Beg and Scruffee, but
- 43:02Speaker 1: I forgave it. I was too excited to see a
- 43:04Speaker 1: character in a book I read as a teenager walk
- 43:06Speaker 1: on screen. Agree, except for the teenager part because I
- 43:11Speaker 1: didn't read it until recently. But in talking about the
- 43:15Speaker 1: speech that Mando gives to Gideon, Mandal repeats for batam
- 43:20Speaker 1: what Gideon said to him and the finale of season one,
- 43:22Speaker 1: which I did catch that this time, I think, and
- 43:28Speaker 1: I dug it. I really dug it.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Yeah, But guys, that is it for our episode. Like
- 43:35Speaker 2: I said, I need to uh get dinner going and
- 43:40Speaker 2: my wife needs to hit the hay because she is
- 43:42Speaker 2: not feeling well. But thank you guys so much for
- 43:45Speaker 2: being here and uh, you know, enjoying this retro review.
- 43:50Speaker 2: Next week we're gonna be talking about Resistance Reborn. I
- 43:57Speaker 2: still need to get started on that.
- 44:01Speaker 1: And guys, this one, this one takes place before Legacy,
- 44:05Speaker 1: which is the Lea trains Ray book. So that's one
- 44:09Speaker 1: reason we're doing it is because kind of this takes
- 44:12Speaker 1: place before that, and Clay has never read this book.
- 44:15Speaker 1: But then the other reason two is Rebecca Ronhorse's Reign
- 44:18Speaker 1: of the Empire book comes out this fall. We talked
- 44:21Speaker 1: about and so kind of giving y'all an idea of, hey,
- 44:25Speaker 1: this is her writing style what you can kind of
- 44:27Speaker 1: come to expect. So twofold reason, but it was one
- 44:32Speaker 1: of the books that I was like, Okay, I'm in
- 44:35Speaker 1: for Disney Star Wars now and that made me pull
- 44:38Speaker 1: that trigger. So super excited to talk about it next week.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Very nice. And then of course after that we are
- 44:45Speaker 2: going to be talking about the Book of Bubba Fet
- 44:47Speaker 2: for our part four on this retro review, all leading
- 44:51Speaker 2: up of course to the Mandalorian Grogu movie. So guys,
- 44:56Speaker 2: you can find me at Fanboy Clay on any and
- 44:59Speaker 2: all social media. You know, Twitter is slowly, slowly dying
- 45:03Speaker 2: and like losing relevance to myself, so you'll see me
- 45:07Speaker 2: more on Instagram. But Katie, what about you?
- 45:11Speaker 1: Y'all? You can find me on most social media platforms.
- 45:13Speaker 1: It's at place Katie. Remember, like Clay said, we're on
- 45:18Speaker 1: most social media platforms and the username is at Star
- 45:23Speaker 1: Wars Lights with no A in the Wars. It's very important,
- 45:25Speaker 1: don't forget it. You can also slap that user name
- 45:28Speaker 1: in front of at gmail dot com and shoot us
- 45:32Speaker 1: in an email. Just remember, give us some way to
- 45:34Speaker 1: reference you for the show. We love hearing from you guys.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Thank you to Unfiltered and Travis for being in the chat. Oh,
- 45:43Speaker 1: he said, great show, guys, Thanks Travis, thank you so
- 45:47Speaker 1: thanks guys for being in the chat. I was like
- 45:50Speaker 1: seeing you guys here. So yeah. With that, I want
- 45:53Speaker 1: to wish everyone a great day or night, whatever time
- 45:55Speaker 1: a day you are listening or watching, and we will
- 45:57Speaker 1: see you'll next time. Been forced to be with you
- 46:01Speaker 1: four
