- 0:02Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls, it is your favorite
- 0:05Speaker 1: time of week. We had done this in a while.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Brother, Get you something cold to drink, maybe a coffee,
- 0:10Speaker 2: Take you a walk into the gym.
- 0:11Speaker 1: We've put you some crazy sheet on all that. Let's
- 0:13Speaker 1: get ready to talk to some college football.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I market ouver here at the college football podcasting studio
- 0:19Speaker 2: is at home, brother, are you man?
- 0:21Speaker 3: I'm good, just excited to get back rolling. Man. I
- 0:24Speaker 3: have been on a worldwide tour for about to last
- 0:28Speaker 3: what feels like forever, but it's really been a kind
- 0:32Speaker 3: of a six week process. Little Scotland golf that was
- 0:37Speaker 3: a really really fun trip. I went to the Caymans
- 0:40Speaker 3: with the family, So, man, I've been all over, most
- 0:43Speaker 3: of it has not been in the US, so it
- 0:45Speaker 3: was a lot of fun. Scotland was a bucket list deal,
- 0:49Speaker 3: really fun trip. I do not love links golf, so
- 0:53Speaker 3: that was quite the challenge. But uh, and I think
- 0:57Speaker 3: part I know now why I don't like links golf.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I loved.
- 1:03Speaker 3: My strength of my game is chipping and one hundred
- 1:07Speaker 3: yards sixty yards, one hundred and twenty yards. Man, it
- 1:12Speaker 3: is really hard to click clip it clean every time
- 1:14Speaker 3: off those tight ass lies and when you spray your driver,
- 1:18Speaker 3: the gorsh is not your friend. So it was but
- 1:21Speaker 3: it was fun. I played a couple of good rounds,
- 1:23Speaker 3: played terrible. The last round I was actually played, the
- 1:26Speaker 3: last nine holes I played was terrible. I think my
- 1:28Speaker 3: body was just given out as an old man. I
- 1:32Speaker 3: was done and that course was there to be had
- 1:34Speaker 3: because it was the easiest course. We played, too, so
- 1:38Speaker 3: it was interesting. Played some really cool spots. You know,
- 1:41Speaker 3: I can't believe Turnberry is not in the open rotation
- 1:46Speaker 3: because of Trump. That's the dumbest shit I've ever seen.
- 1:49Speaker 3: The best course over there, it's incredible. I saw Branda
- 1:53Speaker 3: Chamblie posted that a couple of days ago. He played
- 1:55Speaker 3: it obviously this week and it's just incredibly. That course
- 1:59Speaker 3: is incredible, tree that it's beautiful. I mean, it's it's
- 2:02Speaker 3: the best looking course of any that I played. And
- 2:05Speaker 3: I played a bunch of open courses, so it's it was.
- 2:09Speaker 3: It was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed Mierfield.
- 2:12Speaker 3: You know, it's different. It's the stuffiest of the places.
- 2:17Speaker 3: You know, a couple of good caddy stories. I said,
- 2:19Speaker 3: I started playing bad, and you know, you've always shared
- 2:23Speaker 3: with me the story about Whiteley, about the about the caddy, uh,
- 2:26Speaker 3: and I shared that story a couple of times. So
- 2:29Speaker 3: the caddies, I'll bet on the guys. They're caddying for
- 2:31Speaker 3: the whole round. And I figured that out about day two,
- 2:35Speaker 3: that they're gambling on you and so. And you know,
- 2:39Speaker 3: I played well enough. I made some birdies. You know,
- 2:41Speaker 3: the guy had to My guys had to have done okay.
- 2:45Speaker 3: But man, the last day I crushed it on the
- 2:48Speaker 3: front nine, just played really good, made a couple of birdies.
- 2:53Speaker 3: I got to the back nine and I just I
- 2:54Speaker 3: was done. I was sculling wedges. If I had a
- 2:58Speaker 3: good t ball, I was gonna scull of edge, and
- 3:02Speaker 3: if I didn't, I was going to be lost ball.
- 3:04Speaker 3: And we're walking up the fairway on it. I think
- 3:06Speaker 3: it's fifteen. I think it was fifteen. It was right
- 3:08Speaker 3: before the signature hole, which is seventeen, I think so. Yeah,
- 3:11Speaker 3: it was fifteen or sixteen, and we were playing Presstwick
- 3:15Speaker 3: and I walk up and the caddy goes, Laddie, you
- 3:19Speaker 3: realize you're killing me, right. I was like, we had
- 3:22Speaker 3: to want some money in the first half. Heues, yeah,
- 3:24Speaker 3: but I really need you to take your head out
- 3:25Speaker 3: of your ass. It was fabulous. I mean, it's just
- 3:32Speaker 3: a fabulous quote. I started laughing because I was awful,
- 3:35Speaker 3: I mean, and he probably thought, man, I am money
- 3:38Speaker 3: after this, I'm about to crush these guys. And in
- 3:40Speaker 3: the midst of this, the best golfer in the group
- 3:43Speaker 3: goes on a four out of five hole birdie stretch
- 3:45Speaker 3: and he missed a six footer for five straight birdies.
- 3:48Speaker 3: So he played really well as I'm just absolutely tanking.
- 3:53Speaker 3: So it was it was pretty fun, but good. We
- 3:56Speaker 3: had a good time.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Oh it's fantastic, and I'm glad to hear that.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Well. I got to my.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Kids got to go to Omaha this year to go
- 4:03Speaker 2: see the College World Series. Nice, yeah, both of them, Doug.
- 4:07Speaker 2: That is college age girls to go party up there
- 4:10Speaker 2: and get to witness the Natty. Just got back from
- 4:13Speaker 2: Vegas for five days, signed up for another year of
- 4:17Speaker 2: Circa Millions, and as you know, little news splash for
- 4:22Speaker 2: those of you that listen, Scott.
- 4:23Speaker 1: And I are going to play in the Westgate Super
- 4:25Speaker 1: Book College Contest this year.
- 4:27Speaker 2: If you haven't heard about it yet, the Westgate having
- 4:30Speaker 2: a college contest seven games each week against the spread.
- 4:35Speaker 2: We're going to put our picks on the podcast. We're
- 4:37Speaker 2: actually going to put up a little Patreon page too,
- 4:39Speaker 2: so we'll try to put up our podcast and maybe
- 4:41Speaker 2: even have some write up week to week.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Five hundred dollars to enter, and they're estimating they think
- 4:46Speaker 1: they could get.
- 4:47Speaker 2: You know, about four thousand people signed up for it,
- 4:51Speaker 2: three four thousands with their estimating, so which would be fantastic.
- 4:54Speaker 2: That's a one point five million dollar pot. I am
- 4:57Speaker 2: sure you and I could take home some of that
- 5:00Speaker 2: the fucking money, Scotty.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I know we can do it.
- 5:02Speaker 3: I know we can do it. I feel good about it.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I'm excited. I mean, look, we all perform a lot
- 5:07Speaker 3: of these big guys anyway, so we got to have
- 5:09Speaker 3: a chance because you know they're all going to be
- 5:11Speaker 3: in at the Brad Powers and Phil Steels and you
- 5:14Speaker 3: know the guy from ESPN Stanford Steve, all those guys
- 5:20Speaker 3: are going to be in it.
- 5:20Speaker 2: So I look forward to it, look forward to Westgate's
- 5:24Speaker 2: a great sportsbook. Not a place you want to stay, well,
- 5:28Speaker 2: and you stay't where you want to Vegas, but not
- 5:30Speaker 2: my favorite place to stay. I've fallen in love with Circuit.
- 5:33Speaker 2: The grittiness of downtown uh and to just enjoy the
- 5:37Speaker 2: hell out of it.
- 5:38Speaker 1: But yeah, so as we're getting ready for college football season,
- 5:41Speaker 1: it's got it. We are under.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Sixty days away before we get to week one. Week
- 5:46Speaker 2: zero actually has four or five games, a couple of
- 5:49Speaker 2: good games.
- 5:49Speaker 1: And you've got there.
- 5:50Speaker 2: You've got to Stanford Trees headed to the Island to
- 5:53Speaker 2: play the Flying Timmy Jenks, and I'm kind of excited
- 5:56Speaker 2: about that one. Marty got a little in pocket bet
- 5:59Speaker 2: on the on the Timmy Changs to win this one here.
- 6:02Speaker 2: So I think Stanford is gonna be a dumpster fire
- 6:05Speaker 2: after firing their coach and Andrew Luck stepping in and
- 6:09Speaker 2: bringing over Frank Reich and all that stuff.
- 6:11Speaker 1: And I like what we saw from Hawaii a little
- 6:13Speaker 1: bit last.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Year, so I wouldn't have toe dip in already once
- 6:16Speaker 3: I got out there in Vegas and maybe a wager
- 6:19Speaker 3: I like it. There are some good games the week
- 6:22Speaker 3: the week zero week, so that obviously makes it more
- 6:24Speaker 3: fun when there's some decent games That first week is
- 6:29Speaker 3: actually I'd say the first two weeks is gonna be
- 6:32Speaker 3: fascinating because there's some great non conference games. You know,
- 6:37Speaker 3: the it just looks like it's gonna be a really
- 6:40Speaker 3: good slate. I'm fascinated to see some of the teams
- 6:46Speaker 3: play Texas Tech. To me is it's just absolutely fascinating.
- 6:50Speaker 3: They have changed that roster so much. As you look
- 6:53Speaker 3: at it, I think technically the number two portal team
- 6:58Speaker 3: behind LSU, and and I think you and I are
- 7:01Speaker 3: both on the same page about LSU, so I won't
- 7:04Speaker 3: spend a lot of time talking about that text fascinating
- 7:06Speaker 3: to me because they weren't that far away last year.
- 7:10Speaker 3: I mean, that was a pretty good football team. But
- 7:13Speaker 3: I have real questions of can this staff get over
- 7:16Speaker 3: the hump? It is this staff good enough to be
- 7:19Speaker 3: a ten or eleven win football team, because candidly, this
- 7:23Speaker 3: team may be good enough to do that, especially because
- 7:28Speaker 3: the thing that's fascinating about the Big twelve, this is
- 7:32Speaker 3: a fun league. It's always been fun because they you know,
- 7:35Speaker 3: they kind of ripper them, and now they've added some
- 7:36Speaker 3: of these Pac twelve teams. It's a really fun league.
- 7:40Speaker 3: The styles are all over the map. There's a couple
- 7:44Speaker 3: of really physical teams in there, you know, the Byus,
- 7:47Speaker 3: the Utahs are different. But then you got Arizona State, Arizona.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Oklahoma State's always flung it around the yard. You look
- 7:54Speaker 3: at these over underwin totals and they're all bunched really
- 7:58Speaker 3: closely together. There's a couple of guys, you know, the
- 8:01Speaker 3: Baylors and guys like that, at the eight and a
- 8:03Speaker 3: half nine, nine and a half wins, and everybody else
- 8:06Speaker 3: is basically at five and a half to six and
- 8:08Speaker 3: a half seven, and there's it is a fascinating league.
- 8:13Speaker 3: The leagues like this. There's always somebody who jumps always
- 8:18Speaker 3: and is that team Kansas State, who I think is
- 8:20Speaker 3: gonna be really good with their quarterback coming back, but
- 8:23Speaker 3: they've got some question marks. You know, is that team
- 8:27Speaker 3: because I love Climb and I think he's such a
- 8:29Speaker 3: good such a good coach. Is it Texas Tech? Is
- 8:31Speaker 3: it Baylor? There's some teams that have really got that
- 8:35Speaker 3: chance to step forward. You know, Sawry Robertson, a guy
- 8:38Speaker 3: started under Mike Leach, has really turned out to be
- 8:41Speaker 3: a good quarterback. It's his third year leading that football
- 8:44Speaker 3: team after transferring over. So you know, you get a
- 8:47Speaker 3: returning quarterback like that, and you get some stability in
- 8:50Speaker 3: a coaching staff, and you got it. Those are the
- 8:53Speaker 3: teams a lot of times that step up, and so
- 8:55Speaker 3: it's gonna be interesting to see what Baylor's like. So,
- 8:58Speaker 3: but Tech is the enigma of me. They're the they
- 9:01Speaker 3: are the team that's got the widest gap. I could
- 9:04Speaker 3: see that team going seven and five and the coaching
- 9:06Speaker 3: staff getting fired, and I can see that team going
- 9:09Speaker 3: to ten and two, you know, and being a playoff team.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Them being the Arizona State of this year. I mean
- 9:14Speaker 3: they're not obviously, they're not rover on the win totals,
- 9:17Speaker 3: not three, because I think that's what Arizona States was
- 9:20Speaker 3: last year. The hell, they were picked fourteenth in the
- 9:22Speaker 3: league last year. So and then they end up making
- 9:25Speaker 3: the playoff Europe nose their away from the semi finals.
- 9:28Speaker 3: So you know, it's a this is gonna be a
- 9:31Speaker 3: fascinating year. I've talked about Alabama and uh that I
- 9:36Speaker 3: that I really think that this could be the year
- 9:38Speaker 3: they stepped forward. I think this is a huge improvement
- 9:41Speaker 3: at the quarterback spot, because people forget this is a
- 9:44Speaker 3: five star quarterback. It's a coach's kid that's been sitting
- 9:48Speaker 3: on the bench for three years. And there's a reason
- 9:51Speaker 3: he hadn't left all the coaches always want him to stay,
- 9:55Speaker 3: and you know, Saving did everything he could do to
- 9:57Speaker 3: not get him to transfer when he lost that job,
- 10:00Speaker 3: and so there's a reason people keep wanting this guy around.
- 10:03Speaker 3: I think he's a much better fit at the quarterback
- 10:06Speaker 3: spot for the Bower. I think that team may take
- 10:08Speaker 3: a big jump forward because where they were bad was
- 10:11Speaker 3: on offense because candidly, they couldn't run the Bower's offense.
- 10:16Speaker 3: They couldn't stretch the field and do so. I don't
- 10:19Speaker 3: think that's going to be the case. And look, this
- 10:21Speaker 3: kid's really athletic too. You can't forget this kick and run. Now,
- 10:25Speaker 3: he's not Jalen Milroe, but his ass is pretty more
- 10:28Speaker 3: of a Jackson dardish ability running and that guy could
- 10:32Speaker 3: change the game with his legs, So you get that
- 10:35Speaker 3: along with a guy who could read the defense, studies,
- 10:38Speaker 3: hard worker, can throw the football man. I think this
- 10:41Speaker 3: sets up good for the Crimson Tide. But in that
- 10:43Speaker 3: same state, I think Auburn's got the team to bump up.
- 10:46Speaker 3: They addressed some needs. They've signed some really good young
- 10:50Speaker 3: offensive wide receivers that I think some of those guys
- 10:53Speaker 3: are going to take a step forward this year. They're
- 10:56Speaker 3: still young at wide receiver, but they brought in some transfers,
- 10:59Speaker 3: Singleton name from Georgia Tech being the big one. But
- 11:03Speaker 3: that is gonna be That's a fascinating football team because
- 11:06Speaker 3: it's a huge change over what they're doing offensively. I
- 11:10Speaker 3: am fascinated to see how Jackson Arnold bumps in down there.
- 11:14Speaker 3: But if he doesn't work and he's not good enough,
- 11:17Speaker 3: they brought in the transfer from Stanford to so I mean, look,
- 11:20Speaker 3: they get they got multiple quarterbacks now, so it's gonna
- 11:24Speaker 3: be interesting to see how long of a leash does
- 11:27Speaker 3: Arnold get. But as talented as he is, it's hard
- 11:30Speaker 3: to believe that guy is not gonna be the quarterback
- 11:32Speaker 3: and not the guy that wins the job. The only
- 11:34Speaker 3: way Auburn doesn't I think when nine games something something
- 11:40Speaker 3: like that is if Arnold's not the guy and they
- 11:43Speaker 3: have to make a switch at some point during the season,
- 11:46Speaker 3: they give him the reins. He just simply isn't getting
- 11:48Speaker 3: it done and there's quarterback controversy or whatever. And if
- 11:51Speaker 3: that's the case, you Freeze is probably fired. Because I
- 11:54Speaker 3: think Alburn fans will be ready to move on.
- 11:56Speaker 2: I will be there for opening day of the new
- 11:59Speaker 2: Auburn track because we've got it. We talked about this
- 12:01Speaker 2: last year. We said the our olster was good. They
- 12:03Speaker 2: didn't have a quarterback. We kind of knew that. We're
- 12:06Speaker 2: wondering what they were gonna do. I agree with you.
- 12:08Speaker 2: If Auburn didn't get it done this year, I think
- 12:10Speaker 2: you freeze is gone or I should. We'll talk about that,
- 12:12Speaker 2: but I will be there for the Baylor Auburn game
- 12:15Speaker 2: on the Friday night in Waco, Texas when they come
- 12:17Speaker 2: flying into Flying Saucer that evening to watch, so we'll see.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I'm not a time on Auburn as you are. But
- 12:23Speaker 2: one thing I will tell you about the Big Twelve.
- 12:25Speaker 2: But we're gonna get to it in our Big Twelve preview.
- 12:28Speaker 2: The name you're gonna hear it may not be day one,
- 12:31Speaker 2: but do not sleep on my man, Devin dan Pire,
- 12:34Speaker 2: the transfer quarterback at Utah coming in here. There's no
- 12:39Speaker 2: way Kyle Whittingham is.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Going to just go out and just a just a bust.
- 12:44Speaker 2: He's this is gonna be a run, hard, run, fast,
- 12:48Speaker 2: hits you.
- 12:48Speaker 1: In the mouth football team this next year. I like
- 12:52Speaker 1: Utah a.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Lot full expect total agreement on that the other thing,
- 12:57Speaker 3: and this is a teaser for the SEC preview. Mark
- 13:00Speaker 3: and I are in total agreement on the LSU Tigers too.
- 13:04Speaker 3: We're in total agreement, Obama, and we're in total agreement
- 13:07Speaker 3: on the LSU Tigers. You don't have what I think
- 13:09Speaker 3: is the best pro prospect in this in this college
- 13:12Speaker 3: deal at quarterback and not expect this team to take forward.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Oh and by the way, they got the number one
- 13:18Speaker 3: rate to transfer portal class. They got a lot of talent,
- 13:22Speaker 3: got Perkins back off of injury. It's exactly right. This
- 13:30Speaker 3: is gonna be a talented football team. I think they've
- 13:32Speaker 3: upgraded in some of the spots where they were weak.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Those dbs are going to be improved. I think this
- 13:39Speaker 3: is I think this is a team that's got a
- 13:42Speaker 3: chance to take a real step forward. But guess what
- 13:44Speaker 3: they got a They got an opening week game against
- 13:47Speaker 3: another team I think is gonna be really good and
- 13:50Speaker 3: it's gonna be fascinating. Let me tell you something that
- 13:53Speaker 3: I almost want them to lose to Clemson simply because
- 13:57Speaker 3: it's just simply because I want to watch them. Melt
- 14:00Speaker 3: of them keeping losing non conference games to start the season.
- 14:04Speaker 3: This will be what five in a row, six in
- 14:06Speaker 3: a row, something like that.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, it's too many.
- 14:09Speaker 3: But Kelly's never won one. He's never won one. And
- 14:12Speaker 3: I know, I know the last year he lost My man,
- 14:18Speaker 3: my man, Eddie Orgeron which speaking of video of Eddie
- 14:22Speaker 3: Orseran at the wedding dancing, yes, I mean ripping his
- 14:26Speaker 3: shirt off ed Orsron is hilarious. There's also a video
- 14:30Speaker 3: running around of that guy getting a piece of Oh.
- 14:33Speaker 3: It's coach Orge Ron and he takes him and he
- 14:35Speaker 3: tells him roll tight and this is Oorseron off and
- 14:38Speaker 3: he like gets in his face at the beach. Have
- 14:40Speaker 3: you seen that one? He's like, don't do that to me.
- 14:42Speaker 3: That's offensive. Why would you say something like that to me.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I'm like, Eddie, Oh, is just he's just going full
- 14:50Speaker 3: loose cannon.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I dig it, man. I tell you what I'd love
- 14:53Speaker 1: to do would be to like get Coach.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Oh a cooler pool of sandwiches and Dyke Cokes and
- 15:01Speaker 2: do the Thursday Friday Saturday road trip in the.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Car of football, just like catch the.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Thursday night game, a Friday night game, a Saturday LSU game,
- 15:11Speaker 2: and then let him go back to beating himself, just
- 15:14Speaker 2: eating sandwiches and listen to him talking.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Maybe. Look, can you imagine getting a motor home starting
- 15:21Speaker 3: with midweek maction and rolling all the way through for
- 15:25Speaker 3: a week with that ormon.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh my gosh.
- 15:28Speaker 3: It would be It'd be so much fun, because there's
- 15:31Speaker 3: no way that guy's not awesome. I mean, just to
- 15:35Speaker 3: talk to and just listen to because you know, I mean, hell,
- 15:38Speaker 3: we've heard great stories. Oh think of all the stories
- 15:41Speaker 3: he's got that he had put out. I mean, all
- 15:44Speaker 3: these coaches have got great stories, and recruiting guys have
- 15:47Speaker 3: got the best. I mean, that's the only disappointment about
- 15:50Speaker 3: the portal is the great recruiting stories are over.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I heard Jerry Maguire someone he was coming out.
- 15:59Speaker 1: He was coming through Texas and he was got stuck.
- 16:02Speaker 1: He pulled over in Lagrange, Texas. Uh this is recently.
- 16:06Speaker 1: This was this like in the.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Spring or summer. But he pulls over in Lagrange. There's
- 16:10Speaker 2: only two spots you can eat at Lagrange. There's like
- 16:12Speaker 2: a gas station, there's a shitty taco bell and that's
- 16:16Speaker 2: about it. And he's pulling around and his rental car
- 16:18Speaker 2: gets stuck in the mud and he can't get out,
- 16:21Speaker 2: and so he calls one of his assistant coaches and
- 16:24Speaker 2: guy like, oh, wait a minute, I know the head
- 16:25Speaker 2: coaching at Lagrange because the real the record won't move
- 16:29Speaker 2: his car because it's stuck in the mud and it's
- 16:31Speaker 2: a rental car and they don't want to be liable
- 16:33Speaker 2: if they screw it up trying to pull it out.
- 16:35Speaker 1: So he says he calls the guy.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Five minutes later, the head coach, high school football coach
- 16:39Speaker 2: from Lagrange shows up. He's got two offensive linemen with him.
- 16:43Speaker 2: They pull up some toe ropes the yank you know,
- 16:46Speaker 2: his car out of the mud. He gives them all
- 16:48Speaker 2: a high five and then gets back on.
- 16:50Speaker 1: The road and starts driving into Houston to a recruiting visits.
- 16:53Speaker 2: I mean, you got the old stories about Leech getting
- 16:58Speaker 2: stuck at the private airport and you had to jump
- 17:00Speaker 2: over the fence so he could I mean, yeah, you
- 17:02Speaker 2: could go on for days with those. But yes, let's
- 17:05Speaker 2: manifest the Scott and you and I have enough money
- 17:08Speaker 2: that we can.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Afford to rent an RV.
- 17:10Speaker 2: It would be some of the greatest TikTok social media
- 17:12Speaker 2: ever of me, you and Eddie O doing a Tuesday
- 17:16Speaker 2: to Saturday maction into a night game at Death Valley,
- 17:22Speaker 2: wrapping it up and just right there on Nicholson just rocking.
- 17:26Speaker 1: It out with coach O the whole week.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I don't even if I changed clothes, and he may
- 17:30Speaker 2: not even wear a shirt even in November, when we're.
- 17:33Speaker 3: At some point there would be at some point we
- 17:36Speaker 3: could we could get him, we could get him out
- 17:38Speaker 3: of his out of his get the top, we get
- 17:40Speaker 3: him topless, for sure. That would be I just think
- 17:43Speaker 3: it'd be hilarious. I mean, it's just absolutely hilarious to
- 17:45Speaker 3: go because here's the thing. He's been tons of places
- 17:49Speaker 3: and he still loved everywhere he's been absolutely I mean
- 17:53Speaker 3: everybody loves a guy, you know, and that that is
- 17:57Speaker 3: what's interesting. Look, I always felt like he he was
- 18:01Speaker 3: not the greatest head coach, but man, that staff and
- 18:05Speaker 3: that team he put together in LSU is one of
- 18:09Speaker 3: the greatest, if not greatest collections of talent that's ever
- 18:14Speaker 3: stepped foot on the football field. I mean the just
- 18:16Speaker 3: the wide receivers, man, I mean, Joe Burrow might be
- 18:19Speaker 3: the best quarterback in the NFL, and Jamar Chase and
- 18:23Speaker 3: Jefferson are the two best wide receivers in the n
- 18:28Speaker 3: I mean, and they had a lot of them. Talent
- 18:30Speaker 3: everywhere else too. I mean, you know, you got Moss's
- 18:33Speaker 3: kid at tight end, you had Edwards Hilaire at running back.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I mean that team was just holy smokes, they were.
- 18:39Speaker 3: It wasn't nineteen kids got drafted or something like that.
- 18:42Speaker 3: I mean, just a just a crazy, crazy collection of talent,
- 18:46Speaker 3: and it is. It would be a lot of fun
- 18:50Speaker 3: with that guy. So yeah, maybe we need to we
- 18:52Speaker 3: need to reach out to the coach os people. I
- 18:54Speaker 3: have some people that I know from Ole Miss that
- 18:57Speaker 3: I'm sure are still talking to him. So let me
- 19:01Speaker 3: let me begin the process and see at least get
- 19:04Speaker 3: him on the show one wet him guest pick in
- 19:07Speaker 3: one week.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I like for this, it is heading already. I'm pretty
- 19:11Speaker 1: excited about it anyway, So Scott, let's go do something different.
- 19:17Speaker 1: We talked about this about a month ago. And you know,
- 19:20Speaker 1: Scott and I are both now have crested.
- 19:22Speaker 2: At the age of fifty, and we have both been
- 19:24Speaker 2: watching college football since the eighties.
- 19:26Speaker 1: If you're not with the set long or what part
- 19:28Speaker 1: of the country.
- 19:29Speaker 2: You were in, that's back when you still had to
- 19:30Speaker 2: watch regional football.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Jefferson Pilot would cover the.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Sec JP and you would get Raycom Sports rocking out
- 19:41Speaker 2: somebody in the Southwist Conference.
- 19:43Speaker 1: So much AstroTurf in the Southwest Conference at that time,
- 19:46Speaker 1: it was just unbelievable and what you had there.
- 19:49Speaker 2: But so we've seen the ups and downs of college football,
- 19:52Speaker 2: and where we're at now to me is like, I
- 19:54Speaker 2: think as much of a mess as it is off
- 19:56Speaker 2: the field, and now there's so much media and everybody's
- 20:00Speaker 2: I've been for stories. I think the product on the
- 20:02Speaker 2: field is as good as it's been in a long time.
- 20:04Speaker 2: I think there's parody that has come from the portal.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I think there's parody that's come from the nil. I mean,
- 20:10Speaker 2: if you don't agree with me, you look at you
- 20:12Speaker 2: had Indiana make the playoffs last year. Indiana literally people
- 20:16Speaker 2: couldn't have told you that had a football team for
- 20:18Speaker 2: most of our lives. And SMU back from the death
- 20:22Speaker 2: penalty made the playoffs last year. And if you look
- 20:25Speaker 2: at both of these programs going in the next year,
- 20:27Speaker 2: it's may not being an homaly. These are pretty good
- 20:30Speaker 2: programs that they're building there.
- 20:31Speaker 3: And so yeah, I think you might take a step
- 20:33Speaker 3: back but could that's we're still there.
- 20:36Speaker 1: They were there right, you know, And so that's where
- 20:38Speaker 1: I'm getting to it.
- 20:39Speaker 2: You know, It's it's not just those that there are
- 20:41Speaker 2: some programs out there that are historically good programs that
- 20:45Speaker 2: are kind of in a spot right now where I
- 20:48Speaker 2: think it's, you know, they're in a rock and a
- 20:50Speaker 2: hard place.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Are they gonna go? Are they gonna keep movie?
- 20:53Speaker 3: Yep?
- 20:53Speaker 1: Are they gonna fail again? And go from there? So
- 20:55Speaker 1: Scott and I have hand picked a couple of these
- 20:57Speaker 1: and I.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Want to roll through them and kind of think where
- 21:00Speaker 2: we think these teams are gonna go this year.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Yeah, Mark, I want to add to that just one thing.
- 21:05Speaker 3: The flip side of that is the teams that are
- 21:08Speaker 3: bad right now. Everybody thinks it's easy to oh, yeah,
- 21:12Speaker 3: you can go fix it in the portal. Now you
- 21:14Speaker 3: really can't unless you've got a huge amount of money.
- 21:18Speaker 3: You've at least got to be competitive. The teams that
- 21:21Speaker 3: are bad Mississippi State, for prime example, nobody wants to come.
- 21:25Speaker 3: You got to go overpay for these guys in the portal,
- 21:29Speaker 3: or you just got to go sign guys that just
- 21:31Speaker 3: aren't as good and hope you can develop them. Man,
- 21:34Speaker 3: I would hate to be a coach who's taking over
- 21:37Speaker 3: a team that is three and nine, four and eight,
- 21:42Speaker 3: two and ten and trying to fix it because I
- 21:46Speaker 3: think people don't realize Arizona State wasn't quite as bad
- 21:50Speaker 3: as their record was. From a talent's what and Cam's cataboo?
- 21:55Speaker 3: Why with a game changer from Sacramento State two years ago,
- 21:59Speaker 3: they could build the team around that guy and that
- 22:03Speaker 3: let them go get some players last year around him,
- 22:06Speaker 3: they at least had some signs of life to get
- 22:09Speaker 3: some guys. Hey, we're moving in the right direction. So
- 22:12Speaker 3: it's a tough time because you got to overpay you
- 22:14Speaker 3: these teams that are bad. Let's say the going rate
- 22:18Speaker 3: for a kids a half a million dollars, Well, they've
- 22:20Speaker 3: got to go in and off for seven point fifty
- 22:24Speaker 3: to get a kid that other schools are going to
- 22:26Speaker 3: get for five for five hundred grand, that Alabama may
- 22:29Speaker 3: get for three hundred grand, or ls you may get
- 22:32Speaker 3: for three hundred grand. So it is a it is, man,
- 22:34Speaker 3: it is a crazy time. And the other part is
- 22:38Speaker 3: these kids because they play at You look at State,
- 22:41Speaker 3: they played a lot of young guys and had a
- 22:44Speaker 3: lot of guys transferring. You could take this across the map.
- 22:47Speaker 3: For the bad teams that played a lot of young players,
- 22:50Speaker 3: they had tons of guys at the portal because these
- 22:52Speaker 3: kids want to be paid like they're on an sec starter,
- 22:57Speaker 3: you know, like you're well, just because you're starting a
- 23:00Speaker 3: really bad football team doesn't mean you're worth that money.
- 23:03Speaker 3: And a lot of those guys found that out in
- 23:05Speaker 3: the portal. But you know, like State's freshman quarterback, that
- 23:08Speaker 3: kid that was asking for starter money. Now LSU needs
- 23:11Speaker 3: a quarterback to develop behind us Meyer, and they've got
- 23:14Speaker 3: the funds to pay him. You know, I think they
- 23:17Speaker 3: paid him high, high six figures if I understand right.
- 23:22Speaker 3: But he was asking for well over a million dollars
- 23:26Speaker 3: for Mississippi State. Well, they're crazy to pay that. They're
- 23:29Speaker 3: crazy to pay that. So you know, there is so
- 23:31Speaker 3: much going on in the portal and the managing money
- 23:35Speaker 3: and things like that, it is out of control. There
- 23:39Speaker 3: is at least finally starting to be enough talk amongst
- 23:43Speaker 3: the schools that we've got to get these guys employee.
- 23:46Speaker 3: I saw rich Rod talking about it this week. I've
- 23:49Speaker 3: seen a couple of other athletic directors mention it that
- 23:53Speaker 3: has to happen. We have to get these guys under
- 23:56Speaker 3: contract where it's an enforceable contract and they're there for
- 24:01Speaker 3: two and three years. You can't discipline kids. This is
- 24:04Speaker 3: a disaster. But you know, look, this is what happens
- 24:08Speaker 3: when a poorly run organization like the NCAA never wants
- 24:12Speaker 3: to adapt, never wants to change, and then you get
- 24:15Speaker 3: things like this when the market really takes over. So
- 24:17Speaker 3: they'll get it fixed. But right now the game's not
- 24:20Speaker 3: the good spot. But to your point, this is all
- 24:23Speaker 3: going back to your point about the game on the
- 24:25Speaker 3: field being better. Man, especially from an athletic standpoint, seven
- 24:28Speaker 3: Old seven is a game changer. I mean, you don't
- 24:31Speaker 3: realize there's a lot of athletes out there, and there's
- 24:33Speaker 3: a lot more kids being developed than there were years ago.
- 24:38Speaker 3: These seven Old seven tournaments, I mean, man, I mean
- 24:41Speaker 3: some of these things that Chase plays in and there's
- 24:43Speaker 3: dudes out there. I mean there's dudes. And it's not
- 24:48Speaker 3: just that, it's there's guys that you're like, man, this
- 24:51Speaker 3: kid's pretty good and he's probably not getting looked at
- 24:53Speaker 3: by anybody, you know, So that's where you're getting some
- 24:56Speaker 3: of these transferred guys at these smaller schools and things
- 24:59Speaker 3: like that. I think seven o seven is really helping
- 25:01Speaker 3: the athleticism of the dbs, the wide receivers and the
- 25:04Speaker 3: running backs being in space and things like that. I
- 25:07Speaker 3: think it's all things that weren't going on thirty years ago.
- 25:12Speaker 2: No, I agree with you and for I said the
- 25:14Speaker 2: game is evolving, and I think people that are you
- 25:18Speaker 2: and I should have gotten to be in the general
- 25:19Speaker 2: manager role three years ago with these programs. We should
- 25:22Speaker 2: have gotten ahead of that because we knew that was coming.
- 25:24Speaker 2: And just this last week, if you saw the coup
- 25:27Speaker 2: that you know, Texas Tech Pool. They've got a high
- 25:29Speaker 2: school kid. He's the number one off pensions linemen in
- 25:31Speaker 2: the state of Texas. This is a tackle and he's
- 25:34Speaker 2: going to Tech. But if you look at the agreement
- 25:36Speaker 2: he signed a three year uh you know, revenue share.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Five point one Yeah, five point one five.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Ones the Maxican make but it actually pairs down to
- 25:45Speaker 2: about three something a little bit less than three.
- 25:47Speaker 1: But it's a three year agreement.
- 25:49Speaker 2: And I think the reason being is is because the
- 25:51Speaker 2: guys are at Texas Tech, and you can say whatever
- 25:53Speaker 2: you want to about it, I think they've caught a
- 25:56Speaker 2: lot of we're going to talk about this week at
- 25:58Speaker 2: to the Big Twelve. But you know, Cody Campbell's day
- 26:00Speaker 2: has been thrown around. People act like they know what
- 26:02Speaker 2: he's doing. He's running like a shrewd businessman. He's like,
- 26:05Speaker 2: we're investing in our program.
- 26:07Speaker 3: And played college sports, and who played college sports and
- 26:10Speaker 3: understands it, understands these guys. And he's young, he's he's
- 26:15Speaker 3: not he's not my age, he's not fifty three, he's
- 26:17Speaker 3: like forty. Yeah. I mean, it's so the guy gets it,
- 26:23Speaker 3: he understands it. You throw rocks at him all you want.
- 26:26Speaker 3: I wish we had. I wish the guy was Assissippi
- 26:29Speaker 3: State Gray. The only people pissed off about it are
- 26:31Speaker 3: guys that are jealous of it. That's I agree that
- 26:35Speaker 3: he's doing a phenomenal job. He loves his school, and
- 26:38Speaker 3: he has got a chance to change tech forever.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Well.
- 26:40Speaker 2: And not only that, but he's If you go read
- 26:42Speaker 2: there's an article I think it was in.
- 26:44Speaker 1: The USA today or the I can't remember. It just
- 26:46Speaker 1: came out earlier this week.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Just google Cody Campbell article and there's a fascinating article
- 26:50Speaker 2: about it.
- 26:51Speaker 1: And he's smart.
- 26:52Speaker 2: He started a whole new thing where people can get
- 26:54Speaker 2: on board trying to make the overall landscape of college
- 26:58Speaker 2: or college sports better for the athlete. And so he's
- 27:01Speaker 2: not like, hey, I'm just trying to front run Tech.
- 27:03Speaker 2: I'm trying to make this a better situation for everybody
- 27:06Speaker 2: to play in, for the kids to play in, for
- 27:08Speaker 2: us to donate into. It's like, let's make everything better.
- 27:11Speaker 2: And I think people are not looking into that. But
- 27:13Speaker 2: it's like, like you said, you look at what he
- 27:15Speaker 2: just did with this kid from coming in from Texas Tech.
- 27:17Speaker 2: And he guaranteed him. It's a three year agreement between
- 27:20Speaker 2: you and me.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Man, we have a contract. It's like university.
- 27:23Speaker 2: You know, after your third year from high school, you
- 27:25Speaker 2: can't apply to go to the NFL. And that's great.
- 27:28Speaker 2: That's kind of a trajectory in this kid. I'm sure
- 27:30Speaker 2: thinks he's on, but it's like, why not lock him
- 27:33Speaker 2: up in a three year deal. It's like, hey, we're
- 27:34Speaker 2: going to commit to you. You commit to us.
- 27:37Speaker 1: You know you're gonna get on campus. We're gonna make
- 27:39Speaker 1: you better.
- 27:39Speaker 3: And the contract is void. It's a you know, it's
- 27:43Speaker 3: a it is such a different deal. He's you're right,
- 27:46Speaker 3: he is doing a good job. And look, it's not
- 27:48Speaker 3: just football. I mean, I know his wife was a
- 27:50Speaker 3: softball player.
- 27:51Speaker 1: But tell it softball.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Well yeah, okay, so the But either way, he's investing
- 27:57Speaker 3: in softball. That's been spread around. He's clearly got to
- 28:00Speaker 3: be investing in basketball because basketball is so expensive. He's
- 28:03Speaker 3: got to be. But here's the other thing too, When
- 28:06Speaker 3: a guy like him steps forward, Let's not forget the
- 28:11Speaker 3: dick measuring contest that gets in. While he may be
- 28:13Speaker 3: the wealthiest of the guys doing it, tax gots some
- 28:17Speaker 3: guys with some money too. I mean, there's a lot
- 28:19Speaker 3: of West Texas all money out there. Those guys are
- 28:21Speaker 3: stepping up too. They don't want him being the only
- 28:25Speaker 3: guy that's giving money. They don't. I mean, you look
- 28:27Speaker 3: at that football facility. Man, They've got a lot of people,
- 28:30Speaker 3: including Patrick Mahomes to step up to build that deal. Absolutely,
- 28:35Speaker 3: there are a lot of good things. Like I said,
- 28:37Speaker 3: I mean this, I wish the guy was Mississippi State grad.
- 28:39Speaker 3: The only reason you don't like the guy is because
- 28:42Speaker 3: you're jealous or you're pissed off he in at your school.
- 28:45Speaker 3: What he's doing is great for college sports, and it's
- 28:48Speaker 3: certainly great for the athletes, and I think if they'll
- 28:50Speaker 3: get out of the way and let that guy really
- 28:53Speaker 3: get involved in shape it. You know, people talk about
- 28:56Speaker 3: saving being the tzar. I don't know if this guy
- 28:58Speaker 3: shouldn't be the bizarre of college football, because I think
- 29:02Speaker 3: he understands both ends of it. He understands the need
- 29:05Speaker 3: for the discipline and you got to develop a roster.
- 29:08Speaker 3: He's an offensive lineman man. Nobody understands the grind more
- 29:11Speaker 3: than those guys do. And yet he understands that college
- 29:16Speaker 3: players were getting the short end of the shape for
- 29:18Speaker 3: a long time too.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Absolutely, no, no, I agree with you, Scott. Let's jump
- 29:21Speaker 1: into what we got here. Kind of got a long podcast.
- 29:25Speaker 1: It may stream along for a bit, but I like.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Talking some football and I hope you'll enjoy it.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Along the way. Give us some reviews, give us some ratings.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Love to hear from y'all.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Scroll down now on your podcast app, hit a five star,
- 29:35Speaker 2: give us some notes, give us some feedback if you
- 29:37Speaker 2: want to hear some stuff on the show. We're trying
- 29:39Speaker 2: to do some more things. We're gonna have a little
- 29:41Speaker 2: website this year. We can actually breath the picks and
- 29:43Speaker 2: working on that now may have some swag in there.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Not putting out too much, but just a if you
- 29:48Speaker 2: got some swag ideas, send it to me.
- 29:50Speaker 1: We got some funny stuff coming.
- 29:51Speaker 2: But Scott, where I want to go is talking about
- 29:53Speaker 2: teams I think this year that have to make a
- 29:55Speaker 2: move or they're on the precipice of Mason move.
- 29:58Speaker 1: And these are history good franchises for one reason or another.
- 30:02Speaker 1: A couple of them are.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Actually in the same conference, and so I think it's
- 30:05Speaker 2: gonna be pretty interesting. But where I want to start
- 30:08Speaker 2: as a program to me that has just been interesting
- 30:11Speaker 2: to watch over the.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Last couple of years.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I want to go to Madison, Wisconsin and talk about
- 30:16Speaker 2: our Badgers that we got here.
- 30:18Speaker 1: You know, they brought in Luke Fickle.
- 30:20Speaker 2: This will be Luke Fickle's third year at Wisconsin and
- 30:24Speaker 2: Fickle when he was at Cincinnati took a team into
- 30:27Speaker 2: the College Football playoffs, you know, almost made the National
- 30:31Speaker 2: Championship Game, and he was the big name everybody talked
- 30:35Speaker 2: about as a coach that was going to be the
- 30:37Speaker 2: up and comer to take over another big program. Everybody's like,
- 30:40Speaker 2: where does he want to go? Is you know Cincinnati
- 30:42Speaker 2: made it into the big twelves. He leaves to go
- 30:45Speaker 2: take this opportunity to head over to the big pen
- 30:47Speaker 2: with Wisconsin.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Everybody thinks it's going to be a great fit.
- 30:51Speaker 2: He brings in Phil Longo as his offensive coordinator.
- 30:55Speaker 1: It's been a mess at Wisconsin since he's gotten there.
- 30:58Speaker 2: The roster turned over several times. They're trying to put
- 31:02Speaker 2: that air raid offense in. He had to fire long
- 31:05Speaker 2: Goo at the end of last season just because he
- 31:07Speaker 2: couldn't get it done. Longo's now the head coach at
- 31:09Speaker 2: sam Houston State University. But when you look at this
- 31:12Speaker 2: Wisconsin team, you know they brought in Jeff Grimes, who
- 31:15Speaker 2: was at Baylor. He's been a couple of different places
- 31:17Speaker 2: bysus along the way. He's the new offensive coordinator. They
- 31:22Speaker 2: lose all the quarterbacks that they had on the roster.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Kyler Van Dyke's gone, Themtoyer kid that was the freshman's gone, right,
- 31:29Speaker 2: everybody's gone. They bring in Billy Edwards, who transfers over
- 31:33Speaker 2: from Maryland, who's a great athlete.
- 31:35Speaker 1: I just I don't know what they're gonna do with
- 31:37Speaker 1: this roster. But this was constant team. Man. You go
- 31:40Speaker 1: back and you look at the last couple of years.
- 31:41Speaker 2: They have not won a meaningful game since Luke Fickle's
- 31:45Speaker 2: been there, and I kind of think this is the
- 31:48Speaker 2: end of the eraror for this Wisconton team. I honestly
- 31:51Speaker 2: think this team that went five and seven last year
- 31:53Speaker 2: that was pretty much non competitive in a lot of games,
- 31:56Speaker 2: and I may piss offs was Cotton fans, but it's real.
- 31:58Speaker 2: I mean the only game that they were remotely competitive
- 32:01Speaker 2: in where they had to punch above their weight was
- 32:03Speaker 2: when they played Oregon, and you you called that in
- 32:06Speaker 2: the summer last year because it was such a terrible
- 32:08Speaker 2: spot for Oregon to have to travel back out to
- 32:11Speaker 2: Madison played his game. But this Wisconsin roster is not
- 32:15Speaker 2: built to compete in today's Big Ten, and I don't
- 32:18Speaker 2: think they're going to And you go look at them now.
- 32:20Speaker 2: I think they're over under win totals. I've seen five
- 32:23Speaker 2: and a half. Yeah right now, it's highly juiced to
- 32:27Speaker 2: the under. I don't think they're gonna get there. And
- 32:29Speaker 2: you can't find a path for me. I mean, they
- 32:31Speaker 2: open up with Okay, so yeah, they're gonna Miami of
- 32:34Speaker 2: Ohio and Middle Yeah they're gonna win both of those.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Then they gotta go to the Miami of Ohio. That
- 32:39Speaker 3: could be a total upset.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Maybe you're I mean, but then they got to go
- 32:43Speaker 2: to Bama. They won't win there, and then they get
- 32:45Speaker 2: into Big Ten play and everybody, I mean Maryland maybe
- 32:49Speaker 2: at Michigan, No, Iowa was gonna be way better Ohio State, Oregon.
- 32:55Speaker 1: You dub Indiana, Illinois and Mini give me.
- 32:59Speaker 2: I mean the middle partner scheduled from Michigan to Illinois.
- 33:04Speaker 2: I could tell you any of those teams could make
- 33:06Speaker 2: a run at the Big Ten championship and possibly get
- 33:10Speaker 2: into the tournament. I mean Illinois, I think, so Iowa.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be a lot there. I think
- 33:14Speaker 2: Wisconsin is going to be a disaster. I don't know
- 33:17Speaker 2: if you're gonna be able to faith them fast enough.
- 33:19Speaker 2: But this is a program that is on the verge
- 33:21Speaker 2: of just being forgotten.
- 33:23Speaker 1: That they what Barry Alvarez did, what Paul Chris did.
- 33:26Speaker 2: I mean, to build this thing up in the trajectory,
- 33:29Speaker 2: even Burt Man, I mean, you know it's like to
- 33:32Speaker 2: build this thing up in the trajectory that was I mean, you.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Want you want to talk about teams and got a
- 33:36Speaker 3: chance to make the playoff. Oh, Burt, Burt, he was
- 33:39Speaker 3: on the verge of it last year. It's just a
- 33:41Speaker 3: web and he got everybody back.
- 33:44Speaker 1: I agree, So.
- 33:49Speaker 3: A fickle is. It's fascinating. He's failed at both big
- 33:51Speaker 3: ten jobs, he said. I mean, it was a disaster
- 33:54Speaker 3: at Ohio State where he played. It is fast turning
- 33:57Speaker 3: into a disaster here. The real question for me is
- 34:02Speaker 3: does he end up back at Cincinnati. Maybe that's a
- 34:05Speaker 3: better amission, much like much like Frost was a better
- 34:09Speaker 3: fit at uc if I saw that there are times
- 34:13Speaker 3: you don't need to leave jobs. There really are. I mean,
- 34:16Speaker 3: some guys are cut out for the for the bigger
- 34:19Speaker 3: showtime job, and some guys aren't. And you know, candidly,
- 34:23Speaker 3: I think I've said I think you've heard me say
- 34:25Speaker 3: this a lot. I think Fickers just probably not a
- 34:27Speaker 3: big enough asshole for those jobs. I mean, at the
- 34:30Speaker 3: end of the day, the guys that are really successful
- 34:32Speaker 3: are argon at these big jobs. They're arrogant. I mean,
- 34:36Speaker 3: two best coach in mississip States had two biggest assholes.
- 34:38Speaker 3: I've ever been to that job too, you know, but
- 34:41Speaker 3: they were both really good.
- 34:44Speaker 1: That's much. That's my first one is Wisconsin.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I think Wisconsin premier program, competed for the Big Ten Championship,
- 34:53Speaker 2: rose Bold champions played absolutely relevant program in the last
- 34:58Speaker 2: twenty years, three years, they have burned that thing to
- 35:02Speaker 2: the ground. I don't realize for us how hard it
- 35:05Speaker 2: is to turn his ship around, because there's lots of
- 35:08Speaker 2: programs that we're gonna talk about.
- 35:09Speaker 1: That and the number two program I want to talk
- 35:11Speaker 1: about in the Big Ten. That is a program that
- 35:14Speaker 1: has been burned to the ground.
- 35:17Speaker 2: And I think my man in his third year, Matt Rule,
- 35:22Speaker 2: I think he may have actually turned the ship. At Nebraska.
- 35:24Speaker 2: I think we're there, man, Matt Rule. Last year they
- 35:27Speaker 2: went seven and six. He's got a ton of returns.
- 35:30Speaker 2: You go look at what he did in his third
- 35:31Speaker 2: year at Temple. That was when the team exploded. You
- 35:34Speaker 2: go look at his third year at Baylor, that's when
- 35:36Speaker 2: the team exploded. He's got back his quarterback, he's got
- 35:40Speaker 2: back to gist of that offensive line, he's got back
- 35:43Speaker 2: his offensive coordinator and Dana Hologram.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Yeah that's not a real name, but goes back.
- 35:48Speaker 2: And the reason I think that's a big deal is
- 35:50Speaker 2: what he brought him in last year mid season. I
- 35:54Speaker 2: remember the phrase in Holgos. He's awesome in press conferences.
- 35:57Speaker 2: I don't know how much he's gonna get to talk
- 35:59Speaker 2: because he's just the off coordinator up there.
- 36:01Speaker 1: But you know, one of the things he.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Said last year when he first got up there that
- 36:04Speaker 2: I thought was so interesting, he said, well, the recently
- 36:06Speaker 2: can't we can't run the balls. Our wide receivers don't block.
- 36:09Speaker 2: And I told him it's like, guys, you're not gonna block,
- 36:11Speaker 2: You're not going to play. It's like, well, you have
- 36:13Speaker 2: to block down field to spring these guys. And he
- 36:16Speaker 2: goes and it and it changed, you know, and their
- 36:18Speaker 2: offense improved as he came in. Well, now you've got
- 36:20Speaker 2: a full spring, full roster under del Royola was a
- 36:24Speaker 2: true freshman last.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Years, made a lot of mistakes, a lot of runs.
- 36:30Speaker 2: How hard it is to transition from being a freshman,
- 36:32Speaker 2: you know, senior in high school to playing power five football,
- 36:36Speaker 2: you know, or power four whatever it is. Now that's
- 36:37Speaker 2: a big jump, right, And so I think this Nebraska
- 36:42Speaker 2: team is poised to make a big jump this season.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Their schedule is very manageable. They've got three easy games.
- 36:49Speaker 2: I think they can win Cincy, Akron and Houston Christian
- 36:52Speaker 2: before they play Michigan, and like I said, I think
- 36:55Speaker 2: they can. And then they've got buy in Michigan, State, Maryland, Minnesota,
- 36:59Speaker 2: Northwestern Ucla, Pennstance, Iowa. I mean, this team could easily
- 37:03Speaker 2: go on to night if they can somehow get this
- 37:05Speaker 2: win at Michigan. When Michigan comes to see them in Forhskland,
- 37:09Speaker 2: which I'm sure that game will be rowdy as hill.
- 37:12Speaker 2: They couldn't pull a little bit of a run here.
- 37:13Speaker 2: So I like what we're seeing from Nebraska. This is
- 37:16Speaker 2: a team that you and I grew up loving. I
- 37:18Speaker 2: went back and watched some old Nebraska highlights this summer.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Damn it was fun with watching those guys just run
- 37:25Speaker 2: the wishbone and the option not the wishbe but the
- 37:27Speaker 2: option through are there all those years, And.
- 37:29Speaker 1: So I'm excited for what we're gonna get out of
- 37:30Speaker 1: Big Red.
- 37:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree with you same thing. I think they've
- 37:33Speaker 3: got a chance to step forward. I think it's a
- 37:36Speaker 3: huge year for him. I think he is just gonna
- 37:39Speaker 3: if they do go five and seven, six and six, boy,
- 37:42Speaker 3: you're gonna there's gonna be a lot of people wondering
- 37:46Speaker 3: can he get it done? Too? Up there? Think rules
- 37:48Speaker 3: a really good football coach. He's gotten it done everywhere
- 37:51Speaker 3: he's been. That Baylor situation was brutally difficult. People forget
- 37:55Speaker 3: that building through that was incredibly difficult. Uh, it turns out,
- 38:01Speaker 3: you know, maybe he wasn't doing such a bad job
- 38:04Speaker 3: after at Carolina after all. And then and then of
- 38:08Speaker 3: course the job he did the Temple. You know, so
- 38:10Speaker 3: there's some there's some good. There's some good background that says, hey,
- 38:15Speaker 3: I've got we're gonna get this done. And it does
- 38:19Speaker 3: look like it sets up well for Nebraska. So I
- 38:22Speaker 3: agree with you. They're a team in the big in
- 38:24Speaker 3: the Big twelve, that's or Big ten, that's got a
- 38:26Speaker 3: chance to really bump forward.
- 38:29Speaker 1: What do you think this season? Who's your first team
- 38:31Speaker 1: on this list?
- 38:31Speaker 3: Gaddie, my first team, and look, man, we've talked about
- 38:34Speaker 3: him briefly. Is I really believe that Auburn is going
- 38:40Speaker 3: to take a step forward? I really do. I think
- 38:43Speaker 3: all that has been lacking from this team is remotely
- 38:47Speaker 3: decent quarterback play. I mean, if you go back and
- 38:50Speaker 3: look at some of the games they've lost, they have
- 38:52Speaker 3: been awful. I mean awful at quarterback and and and
- 38:58Speaker 3: really in tight games, it is one or two key
- 39:03Speaker 3: plays where the quarterback just made bonehead decisions. I mean,
- 39:08Speaker 3: just like, what are you doing? I mean that col game,
- 39:12Speaker 3: I mean all they were awful, that Auburn defense played great,
- 39:16Speaker 3: they were in awful spot after awful spot and just
- 39:21Speaker 3: couldn't get anything done. But I mean a couple of
- 39:24Speaker 3: SEC games, had huge turnovers, hell a Alabama game a
- 39:28Speaker 3: couple of years ago. I mean it's just I feel
- 39:32Speaker 3: like they if they get remotely good quarterback play for
- 39:36Speaker 3: twelve games, I think this is an eight nine win
- 39:39Speaker 3: football team. I think that's they get really good quarterback play,
- 39:43Speaker 3: which Jackson Arnold is capable of doing, and I ain't
- 39:45Speaker 3: his team's got a chance to make the playoffs. That's
- 39:48Speaker 3: that really is the truth. But it's gonna be fascinating
- 39:52Speaker 3: because they are very much they go win six games
- 39:57Speaker 3: again or something like that, and man, talk about fired.
- 40:01Speaker 3: I don't know how in the world are gonna freeze,
- 40:03Speaker 3: you know, because look they're getting crushed right now in
- 40:06Speaker 3: the in the in the recruiting process. I think it
- 40:10Speaker 3: is because he has sunk a lot of teeth in
- 40:12Speaker 3: these last couple of classes, and look, they're gonna come
- 40:15Speaker 3: throw money at it late. So nothing matters in recruiting
- 40:18Speaker 3: until the kid's gotta sign until that first week what
- 40:22Speaker 3: is that first week, third week of December, whatever, that
- 40:24Speaker 3: signing day is. Nothing matters until then because they you
- 40:29Speaker 3: go in and start offering kids money. There's a different deal.
- 40:32Speaker 3: And look, if you don't think the SEC is about
- 40:34Speaker 3: to start paying under the table outside of the revenue sharing,
- 40:38Speaker 3: I ain't your stupid, because they're all pissed off that
- 40:40Speaker 3: they're losing. So I think it's they're gonna be It's
- 40:42Speaker 3: gonna be brown back special. You know, uh it's coming back.
- 40:46Speaker 3: You know, those kids are already starting to learn I
- 40:47Speaker 3: don't have to pay taxes on the brown bag, you know,
- 40:50Speaker 3: I know some of that's going on. Uh So that
- 40:53Speaker 3: is definitely one USC. The other I'm on, I'm will
- 40:56Speaker 3: stick inside the Big twelve. And I like the US,
- 41:00Speaker 3: I mean big ten. I skeep saying Big twelve. The
- 41:04Speaker 3: the the Trojans are fascinating to me. I mean, I
- 41:11Speaker 3: can't decide if I think they're gonna be good this team.
- 41:15Speaker 3: I keep going all over the map on and you
- 41:17Speaker 3: want to know what I think I think they're gonna
- 41:19Speaker 3: be exactly what they were last year. I mean, these guys,
- 41:22Speaker 3: these guys are going out and look, they've signed some
- 41:26Speaker 3: good players in the portal, but I mean they're also
- 41:29Speaker 3: signing guys that are that are okay, you know what
- 41:34Speaker 3: I mean. It's not like they're going out and getting
- 41:36Speaker 3: just complete and other studs in the portal either. So
- 41:40Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be fascinating. They lost, you know,
- 41:42Speaker 3: they brought in some interesting guys. They didn't. I mean,
- 41:45Speaker 3: they lost a couple of guys, but nothing, nothing crazy.
- 41:50Speaker 3: But at the same time, man, they have gone out.
- 41:52Speaker 3: I mean the defensive backfield. They really tried to fix
- 41:58Speaker 3: defensive line. They had to go get some guys. But
- 42:01Speaker 3: I mean, man, when you're taking running back transfers from
- 42:03Speaker 3: Mississippi State, which they you know, and look, I love
- 42:06Speaker 3: the kid that was over there that just graduated. He
- 42:10Speaker 3: was a great kid and and and loved him. But
- 42:14Speaker 3: I mean you're going to get this year. They've got
- 42:16Speaker 3: Eli Sanders coming in from New Mexico. That that's not
- 42:20Speaker 3: where sc needs to be. I mean, they're supposed to
- 42:24Speaker 3: have studs. They're supposed to have Reggie Bush, They're supposed
- 42:29Speaker 3: to have Lyndale White, They're supposed to have O. J. Simpson,
- 42:32Speaker 3: They're supposed to have Marcus Allen. I mean, those are
- 42:34Speaker 3: dudes that have worn that helmet and they ain't got
- 42:38Speaker 3: that guy. And so I can't figure this out. I mean,
- 42:42Speaker 3: I am. It is so fascinating to me, the move
- 42:46Speaker 3: that that they're doing and the travel matters. I think
- 42:51Speaker 3: some games they're gonna win that they you know, man, look,
- 42:55Speaker 3: going to Penn State's gonna be brutal, you know that.
- 42:59Speaker 3: I am fascinated to see what this. They don't go
- 43:02Speaker 3: to Oh they don't. They don't go to Penn State
- 43:04Speaker 3: this year. They I forgot they're not return schedules. Yeah
- 43:08Speaker 3: they were, they were. They hosted them last year. Riddle
- 43:13Speaker 3: me this though, what me listen.
- 43:15Speaker 1: To this skid last year? Here's their losses.
- 43:17Speaker 2: They lost at Michigan twenty four to twenty seven, and
- 43:19Speaker 2: they were in that game.
- 43:21Speaker 3: I should have won that game.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Should have won that game.
- 43:24Speaker 2: They lost at Minnesota seventeen to twenty four. That was
- 43:27Speaker 2: a kind of stinker for him. They lost at Maryland
- 43:30Speaker 2: twenty eight to twenty nine. They should have won that
- 43:31Speaker 2: game too. Travel game lost at Washington UH twenty one
- 43:36Speaker 2: to twenty six, and then Notre Dame they lost thirty
- 43:39Speaker 2: five to forty nine.
- 43:40Speaker 1: But remember I was on that game.
- 43:41Speaker 2: They gave up two to ninety nine yard interception returns
- 43:45Speaker 2: as they were driving to win the game.
- 43:47Speaker 3: That's exactly right. That was they should have won that game.
- 43:49Speaker 1: And so my point is this team wasn't as.
- 43:52Speaker 3: Far off state and stayed at home. They almost beat
- 43:55Speaker 3: what was it, Yeah, I mean.
- 43:57Speaker 1: They thirty to thirty three.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Had the league walk that game, you know, And so
- 44:04Speaker 2: my point is, I don't think this team. Here's where
- 44:06Speaker 2: it's interesting to me because I agree with you on
- 44:09Speaker 2: the dude scale, right, But the fact that Jordan may
- 44:12Speaker 2: Iva is still there and you know, and they let
- 44:15Speaker 2: what the kid transfer that moved over to USC or
- 44:19Speaker 2: not USC Louisville. It's going to be their quarterbacks over there.
- 44:22Speaker 2: And the fact that that was kind of a non issue.
- 44:25Speaker 2: I think they think they had something here and I'm interested.
- 44:28Speaker 2: And if you look at their schedule, they've got a
- 44:30Speaker 2: path because they they should open the season, you know,
- 44:35Speaker 2: four to oh. Then they go to Illinois, which is
- 44:37Speaker 2: going to be a fabulous game because I think Illinois
- 44:40Speaker 2: is going to be is going to be really good.
- 44:43Speaker 2: But I think this team's got an absolute path to
- 44:46Speaker 2: get to the Big Ten. And the reason I'm talking
- 44:48Speaker 2: about it is is if you look at Illinois's schedule
- 44:50Speaker 2: on where they've got this, Illinois has to play at
- 44:53Speaker 2: Indiana and then they host USC the following weekend.
- 44:57Speaker 1: That's a big deal because that Indiana game, it's going
- 45:00Speaker 1: to be a big deal this year. And so I
- 45:03Speaker 1: think it's a good spot.
- 45:04Speaker 2: And so if you're looking at a spot where they
- 45:06Speaker 2: can pie, because you remember, you don't have to win
- 45:08Speaker 2: all your games anymore to get in this thing. They
- 45:10Speaker 2: have a path to get through, and I think it's
- 45:13Speaker 2: a manageable schedule. It's it's an interesting schedule, but I
- 45:16Speaker 2: think it's an absolute manageable, mansonable schedule to get through.
- 45:19Speaker 1: So I think we're going to find.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Out if if Lincoln Riley has got any nuts, because
- 45:24Speaker 2: that's been the conversation you and I've had some views
- 45:26Speaker 2: in Oklahoma, is could he could he turn the dial
- 45:29Speaker 2: to win a championship?
- 45:31Speaker 1: And thus far he hasn't proven that he can do it. Yeah,
- 45:33Speaker 1: he's been the he's.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Been the best seven to ten win coach or I
- 45:36Speaker 2: don't how many games he's ever one of the most.
- 45:38Speaker 2: But he's been the best set, you know, relevant coach
- 45:40Speaker 2: that hasn't really done anything since he's gotten jobs.
- 45:43Speaker 3: Mark he said, two of the best seven or eight
- 45:46Speaker 3: all time jobs. Yeah, it's not like he's coaching in
- 45:50Speaker 3: Mississippi State. It's not like he's coaching all miss It's
- 45:53Speaker 3: not like he's at Arkansas. This day has had marquee jobs,
- 45:58Speaker 3: you know. So, I mean it is. I think there's
- 46:01Speaker 3: a lot of questions about lan Riley. I really do.
- 46:05Speaker 3: And but you're right, the schedule is very manageable. Look,
- 46:08Speaker 3: they they Misspence that the only the only brand that
- 46:12Speaker 3: they play is Michigan and then I would say Oregon
- 46:15Speaker 3: I would include as a as a brand. But other
- 46:18Speaker 3: than that, I mean, look, when you're getting Purdue Michigan
- 46:22Speaker 3: State Michigan, because I look, they're gonna start Underwood and
- 46:26Speaker 3: they're gonna struggle, even though that kid's really, really talented.
- 46:29Speaker 3: They're they're gonna lose some games they should. They're gonna
- 46:31Speaker 3: be held on wheels next year. I think they're gonna
- 46:34Speaker 3: be stupid good based on that roster. Uh, But they
- 46:37Speaker 3: get Northwestern, They're they're at Nebraska, that'll be a tough one.
- 46:41Speaker 3: They host Iowa and they got u c l A
- 46:44Speaker 3: to end at the end of the year. If you
- 46:45Speaker 3: tell me your conference games, your road games are gonna
- 46:50Speaker 3: be Oregon, who's gonna be starting a first time starter
- 46:52Speaker 3: at quarterback, Notre Dame. I'll include as a conference game Nebraska,
- 46:58Speaker 3: Purdue in Illinois. You gotta like your chances there. This
- 47:04Speaker 3: team doesn't win nine or ten games, and man, you
- 47:08Speaker 3: really gotta ask questions. I mean, they won't fire him
- 47:11Speaker 3: if he goes nine to three, but man, it's gonna
- 47:14Speaker 3: be hard. I mean, honestly, I think the two blows
- 47:18Speaker 3: likely games to loser. Illinois and you already discussed that
- 47:20Speaker 3: spot on the schedule, Notre Dame, and then next is
- 47:25Speaker 3: at Nebraska. Yeah, that's the most likely games to lose.
- 47:30Speaker 3: So you gotta like your chances if you're SC fans.
- 47:33Speaker 3: I mean, look traditionally, Hell, they're talking two of those
- 47:37Speaker 3: three games up as auto wins. Normally. Oh yeah, I
- 47:41Speaker 3: know we're gonna lose to Illinois, you know. I mean,
- 47:44Speaker 3: that's the bottom line. So it's gonna be This is
- 47:47Speaker 3: a fascinating team. The difference is the record may show
- 47:50Speaker 3: them being significantly better than this team is. That's what
- 47:54Speaker 3: I think. I think they may be fools goal. This
- 47:56Speaker 3: team could go nine to three and be total fools goal.
- 48:00Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 48:01Speaker 2: I don't disagree with you, but it's they're fascinating, scout.
- 48:05Speaker 2: I want to go to another team whose path is
- 48:08Speaker 2: not nearly is easy to.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Follow, but it's right there in your backyard.
- 48:12Speaker 2: Let's talk about my main man in his fourth year
- 48:17Speaker 2: down there in the world of George, and we don't
- 48:19Speaker 2: back down Sunbelt, Billy and the Florida Gators.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Where this team.
- 48:25Speaker 2: You and I talked last year that we thought this
- 48:27Speaker 2: team was going to be better than advertised, and they were.
- 48:29Speaker 2: They went eight and five. They had to bring in
- 48:33Speaker 2: the freshman quarterback DJ Lagway. I talked about it. I mean,
- 48:36Speaker 2: we played the kid in high school. He was a
- 48:38Speaker 2: true freshman. Last year he was still rough around the edges.
- 48:41Speaker 2: You could tell he throws off his front front a
- 48:43Speaker 2: lot underneath stuff he struggles with downfield, and he's a
- 48:47Speaker 2: phenomenal athlete and his leadership qualities cannot be questioned.
- 48:51Speaker 1: I'm just telling you the guy.
- 48:53Speaker 2: You can build a franchise around this kid, and he's
- 48:55Speaker 2: only nineteen years old. But sun Belt in Florida, this year.
- 49:00Speaker 2: I think they've got some high expectations. Fifteen returning starters
- 49:03Speaker 2: are coming back on this team, yep. And their schedule
- 49:05Speaker 2: is as brutal as it gets, mainly considering the SEC.
- 49:09Speaker 2: But it doesn't help any that you have to kept
- 49:11Speaker 2: and play the U. It's one of your non cons
- 49:14Speaker 2: in that spot.
- 49:15Speaker 3: And their bookending Miami in Florida say that's their two
- 49:21Speaker 3: none cons. I mean it's yeah, this is a brutal.
- 49:23Speaker 3: It's a brutal schedule for the Gators. I couldn't agree more.
- 49:27Speaker 3: Do think they're gonna be good. Lost a couple of
- 49:28Speaker 3: guys on the defensive line that hurt them in the
- 49:31Speaker 3: transfer portal, which candidly I was kind of surprised, But
- 49:34Speaker 3: I do think this team's gonna be gonna be better.
- 49:37Speaker 3: I think this may get Sunbelt Billy through the through
- 49:42Speaker 3: the eye of the hurricane, I guess would be the
- 49:44Speaker 3: right way to do it. He finds a way to
- 49:46Speaker 3: beat Miami early, and boys, can't you tell about game on?
- 49:52Speaker 3: It's gonna be interesting because I don't think anybody knows
- 49:55Speaker 3: what the Canes are gonna be based on the quarterback spot,
- 49:59Speaker 3: so so it's gonna be you know, is he healthy,
- 50:02Speaker 3: is he back from Tommy John? What what happens there
- 50:05Speaker 3: that's gonna be That's that whole deal is fascinating. Is
- 50:09Speaker 3: a fascinating window. This Florida team's good. They're not gonna
- 50:12Speaker 3: get They're not gonna get bus tired against Miami like
- 50:16Speaker 3: they did last year. I don't expect last year, Miami
- 50:19Speaker 3: just came in to play bully ball with them, and
- 50:21Speaker 3: I don't think they're gonna be able to do that
- 50:23Speaker 3: this year. I think because this team is one more
- 50:26Speaker 3: year down the road and a strength and conditioning standpoint.
- 50:32Speaker 3: But here's the deal, Sun Belt, Billy's got to get
- 50:35Speaker 3: them back competing for championships or he's gonna get fired.
- 50:38Speaker 3: Seventy five doesn't get you anything. They fired Dan Mullin
- 50:41Speaker 3: after you've been to three straight SEC championships. Right, one
- 50:46Speaker 3: bad year, let's the discipline get away from him and
- 50:49Speaker 3: boom fired. Now. I know part of that is because
- 50:51Speaker 3: Scott's Trickling didn't like Dan, but that's okay. At the
- 50:55Speaker 3: end of the day, they don't have a long lease
- 50:58Speaker 3: down there, and they Billy's got to take them. He's
- 51:02Speaker 3: gotta take them, take them forward. At some point, I
- 51:05Speaker 3: don't know that they're good enough to get to the
- 51:08Speaker 3: level that that the Gator fans expect. I only gets
- 51:11Speaker 3: the nine and three, ten and two football team either.
- 51:16Speaker 1: I'm interested to see where this is gonna go.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Like I said, this schedule is rough, dude, because you've
- 51:21Speaker 2: got You've got l s U, You've got Texas, you've
- 51:25Speaker 2: got Georgia.
- 51:26Speaker 3: And I better than any of those teams. Those are
- 51:28Speaker 3: all three losses. All three of those teams they go to.
- 51:33Speaker 3: They go too much for Yeah.
- 51:35Speaker 1: I mean it's rough, dude. I'm just telling you.
- 51:36Speaker 2: It's like if you're gonna go play football d NCC,
- 51:39Speaker 2: we know this. You got to wear your big boy
- 51:41Speaker 2: pants and you got the same thing when you coach there. Man,
- 51:43Speaker 2: this schedule is rough and uh. And like I said,
- 51:47Speaker 2: they go it's like you said, they go to seven
- 51:49Speaker 2: and he goes seven.
- 51:51Speaker 1: And five and I think he's done and you can
- 51:55Speaker 1: go seven and five and be good. I mean realistically,
- 51:58Speaker 1: I mean, because you.
- 51:59Speaker 3: Think eight and four. Let's say they lose to Miami
- 52:02Speaker 3: and they lose those three games. I just said, that
- 52:05Speaker 3: means they want an Oxford I mean that means they're
- 52:09Speaker 3: really That means they're a good football team, because oh,
- 52:11Speaker 3: let's go be a good football team. And they go
- 52:13Speaker 3: on the road and win that game, or they beat
- 52:16Speaker 3: one of the other three that we just talked about.
- 52:20Speaker 3: They beat at Georgia, they beat a Texas, they're eight
- 52:23Speaker 3: and four. I mean that this team could be six
- 52:27Speaker 3: and six and be a really good football team this schedule.
- 52:30Speaker 1: I agree, I totally agree. I mean, it's not somebody
- 52:33Speaker 1: you want to play.
- 52:34Speaker 2: I'm sure that's the case, but yeah, I mean, so
- 52:37Speaker 2: if you're looking at if you're looking at those teams,
- 52:39Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know if there's any other teams
- 52:40Speaker 2: you've kind of been eyeballing. But and the reason I
- 52:42Speaker 2: bring all these teams up Florida, Nebraska, Miami, and USC
- 52:45Speaker 2: Wisconsin is.
- 52:46Speaker 1: I think that as far as those teams that are kind.
- 52:49Speaker 3: Of programs there, they're national title expectation programs.
- 52:55Speaker 2: And I'll throw you one more and I don't and
- 52:57Speaker 2: I like the guy, I don't know, if he's a
- 52:59Speaker 2: good coach.
- 53:00Speaker 1: We can go to Norman, Oklahoma, and what's oh you
- 53:03Speaker 1: gonna do this season?
- 53:04Speaker 2: I mean I hear, I hear all kinds of accolades
- 53:08Speaker 2: about this defense, and you're and most of you unless
- 53:10Speaker 2: you watched some c W last.
- 53:12Speaker 3: Year and showed out at the Manning Camp showed out.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Yeah, if you didn't watch the c W last year,
- 53:18Speaker 2: you probably didn't see Washington State play and see John Bttier.
- 53:21Speaker 2: But he transferred in from Washington State. Actually, as we know,
- 53:25Speaker 2: the Ou quarterback transferred out. The backup that played most
- 53:28Speaker 2: of you last year. He's back to backing up. I think, uh,
- 53:31Speaker 2: but my tier comes in, the offensive coordinator comes in,
- 53:34Speaker 2: and I think Brent Minnibles is betting his job that
- 53:37Speaker 2: this is gonna work.
- 53:37Speaker 1: And you know he played a pretty much a Mountain
- 53:40Speaker 1: West schedule last year. Well let me tell you what.
- 53:43Speaker 1: He is not playing a Mountain West schedule this year.
- 53:45Speaker 1: And so this Oklahoma team, same thing.
- 53:47Speaker 3: Man.
- 53:48Speaker 2: I mean, everybody's got him picked really hot, and I
- 53:51Speaker 2: just I can't get there.
- 53:53Speaker 1: I mean I.
- 53:55Speaker 2: Would take this is gonna sound funny, my favorite eight
- 53:58Speaker 2: and four team of all times, Texas, A and M,
- 54:00Speaker 2: and I almost would tell you to take them with.
- 54:02Speaker 2: But I mean this Oklahoma team, they have to They
- 54:05Speaker 2: host Michigan week two.
- 54:07Speaker 1: Auburn comes there. Their schedule is actually manageable.
- 54:09Speaker 2: Kent State, they got to go to Texas, they are
- 54:12Speaker 2: Texas and Dallas. Then they at South Carolina, who I
- 54:15Speaker 2: don't think it's good. Old Myths comes there, they could
- 54:18Speaker 2: beat them. At Tennessee, who I don't think it's going
- 54:19Speaker 2: to be that good. They go to Bama Missouri. Nology,
- 54:22Speaker 2: this is a this is a nine win schedule if
- 54:25Speaker 2: this team has any mustard at all.
- 54:28Speaker 1: But I, like I said, Vinables hasn't been able to
- 54:30Speaker 1: do it. I mean he had a ten to win
- 54:31Speaker 1: season at the end of the Big Twelve, but that
- 54:33Speaker 1: was a terrible scheduling for the year. So I don't know.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I'm fascinated.
- 54:37Speaker 3: Yeah, they're at They're at Bama, at Tennessee, at South Carolina.
- 54:43Speaker 3: I mean, those are those are pretty those are pretty
- 54:46Speaker 3: rough games. They're they're l s U. They got l
- 54:50Speaker 3: s U at home to end the year. They've got Missouri. Uh,
- 54:55Speaker 3: they they finished the season. It's a pretty it's a
- 54:59Speaker 3: pretty rough strat they finished the season. I'm gonna double check.
- 55:03Speaker 3: See they got one bye week in here. They're they're
- 55:08Speaker 3: Texas at South Carolina, Old Miss at Tennessee, off week
- 55:16Speaker 3: at Alabama, Missouri L s U. Right, that's pretty rough.
- 55:22Speaker 3: Go because I'm gonna tell you I just told you,
- 55:23Speaker 3: I think Alabama and l s U maybe the two
- 55:27Speaker 3: best teams in the league. And they're pretty good and
- 55:32Speaker 3: Texas is probably the favorite in the league. So they
- 55:36Speaker 3: got really good teams. Oh and by the way, they
- 55:39Speaker 3: go to Tennessee and they got old miss mixed in there,
- 55:41Speaker 3: and they got a what ten win Missouri team mixed
- 55:43Speaker 3: in there? Because din Missouri end up winning ten after
- 55:45Speaker 3: the broad game, you gotta get hit me that. That's
- 55:49Speaker 3: a really tough schedule. So, I mean, it is interesting.
- 55:52Speaker 3: And oh, let's not forget ah. They're gonna start off
- 55:55Speaker 3: with the Michigan Wolverines to begin the season. So again,
- 56:00Speaker 3: I think that could have to pull them forward and
- 56:04Speaker 3: really get them going. At Auburn Oklahoma game is a
- 56:08Speaker 3: barn burner. We talked about Auburn's schedule. They've got your
- 56:13Speaker 3: Baylor Bears, then they got this a couple of weeks later.
- 56:17Speaker 3: They win both of those Auburn's of nine ten win
- 56:22Speaker 3: football team, they lose them both. They're six and six,
- 56:26Speaker 3: they're seven and five. They split them. We'll see where
- 56:29Speaker 3: they end up, but they got to win one of
- 56:31Speaker 3: those two. The Tigers have got to win one of
- 56:34Speaker 3: those two. This is gonna be a huge game. The
- 56:36Speaker 3: same is true for Oklahoma. They've got to win one
- 56:40Speaker 3: of those Auburn Michigan games. They win two, they got
- 56:45Speaker 3: a chance for a decent year. But I will tell
- 56:47Speaker 3: you upfront, I don't think this schedule gets them eight
- 56:50Speaker 3: to nine wins. And I think that's what Oklahoma fans
- 56:52Speaker 3: are expecting. Any Oklahoma jobs gonna be available, we'll see
- 56:56Speaker 3: the Auburn and Oklahoma jobs are both open. Let me
- 57:00Speaker 3: tell you who's gonna get paid paid, absolutely paid. Is
- 57:07Speaker 3: one Lane Kiffin, whether he stays in Oxford or not.
- 57:11Speaker 3: They're already paying him ten I think it's ten to three. Buddy.
- 57:14Speaker 3: He may be making fifteen million by the time this
- 57:17Speaker 3: season's over, by the time next coaching circuit's over. And
- 57:21Speaker 3: I will tell you I don't care what anybody says.
- 57:24Speaker 3: It is driving him crazy watching Sarkesian have the success
- 57:27Speaker 3: he's having at Texas. Are you kidding me that he
- 57:30Speaker 3: wouldn't take the Oklahoma job. Oh yeah, Oh, he'll take
- 57:34Speaker 3: it in the damn heart beat and a heart beat.
- 57:37Speaker 1: I would rather have the Oklahoma jib than the Auburn job.
- 57:41Speaker 3: Oh me too. I think the Oklahoma jib is a
- 57:43Speaker 3: better job too. I would agree. I would agree with that,
- 57:44Speaker 3: especially over history. I would agree with that wholeheartedly. So
- 57:49Speaker 3: it's gonna be fascinating. Plus, you got to remember long
- 57:52Speaker 3: time ad at Oklahoma just announced he's retiring. They're gonna
- 57:55Speaker 3: be shopping for an athletic director, and my guess is
- 57:58Speaker 3: he's gonna want his own. Guy. Venables better figure out
- 58:01Speaker 3: how to win nine ten games.
- 58:04Speaker 1: It's gonna be a good season.
- 58:05Speaker 2: Man. The media days are kicking off, and let's wrap
- 58:08Speaker 2: this up. We got a couple more things we gotta
- 58:10Speaker 2: get out of here. Got a hard stop a little bit.
- 58:12Speaker 2: But can we hope that Diego Pavia shows up at
- 58:16Speaker 2: SEC media game with both his brothers Sholo and then
- 58:20Speaker 2: just kidding and maybe like a big gold chain and
- 58:23Speaker 2: like Bandy's turts, you know, just a T shirt on.
- 58:26Speaker 1: Fuck your couch, man, I ain't wear a suit.
- 58:29Speaker 2: It's kind of like when Texas showed up last year
- 58:31Speaker 2: with on the cowboy hats when they had media day.
- 58:33Speaker 1: In Dall, Like now it's in it, now it's in Atlanta.
- 58:37Speaker 1: Can we go straight Atlanta og like, roll up with
- 58:40Speaker 1: some hooties.
- 58:41Speaker 3: I want him to wear a sombrero I want him
- 58:44Speaker 3: to show up in a sombrero. Just go, just go
- 58:47Speaker 3: full New Mexico on me. Let's go New Mexico State.
- 58:50Speaker 3: Let's go give me, give me a sombrero. Baby, that
- 58:53Speaker 3: would be hysterical. I have some I agree with you.
- 58:56Speaker 3: It's gonna be fascinating cause you know he's coming. I
- 58:59Speaker 3: has players that we know he's coming.
- 59:02Speaker 1: I think there's ten quarterbacks coming.
- 59:05Speaker 2: Uh, arch Manning's coming, but he's bringing, uh the linebacker
- 59:10Speaker 2: Anthony Hill, and I forget somebody else.
- 59:12Speaker 1: But if I'm Bandy, because.
- 59:14Speaker 2: Bandy's not even bringing their tight end and that guy's
- 59:16Speaker 2: gonna be a first round drafting Eli Stowers or whatever,
- 59:19Speaker 2: he's not coming. If I'm Bandy, I would show up
- 59:22Speaker 2: with Pavia and two brothers and that's it.
- 59:30Speaker 3: Oh yeah, they need to just phrase mark that and
- 59:36Speaker 3: just start selling them in Nashville.
- 59:40Speaker 1: I'm all on.
- 59:41Speaker 2: I'm sure I can whip one up today, and I
- 59:43Speaker 2: am sure that I will break all kinds of trademark rules.
- 59:47Speaker 1: But yeah, I just want one. Mandy's turn and I
- 59:50Speaker 1: also want one. I'm gonna get somebody to make this.
- 59:52Speaker 2: I want Pavia in a low rider with his brothers
- 59:56Speaker 2: and his sho low glasses and they're wearing those Vanderbilt
- 59:59Speaker 2: you know overall.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Yeah into the student section last year.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: Oh man, I just I'm so excited for college football
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: and we're so.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: Close to get close.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: When I saw Poppy was on the list, and you know,
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: he's already come out this season and talking to smash smile, man, bro,
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: you earned it.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: I mean, he has earned it.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: And this vanded team is actually gonna be I think
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: they're better this year than last year.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: They got. They gotta be a chance equally as good
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: as they were last year, for sure, and that means
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: beating some people. So it's gonna be Look, man, the
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: college football is gonna be fascinating. The difference with the
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: transfer portal is there's always gonna be teams that surprise you,
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: that that that the that the sauce mix is right
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: and everything works. There's also gonna be teams that the
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: sauce mix is wrong and it doesn't work. When you
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: when you're bringing in thirty new guys and you know,
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: I mean some of the roster numbers I saw. I
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: saw Oklahoma State is bringing in I think I can't
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: remember what the number was, thirty something, thirty something guys
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: and every transfer portal kid pretty much wasn't there in spring,
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: and he's expected to play. He's a first year player
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: and it is expected to play. Man, Gundhy's got his
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: hands full. You got no idea what that team's gonna
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: be like. Because he's a good football coach and you're
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: bringing in that many guys that you've never seen in
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: their jersey. You got no idea what they're really gonna be. Like.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: Does the sauce mix well or does it not? So
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: it's gonna be it's gonna be fascinating. The guys like Gundhy,
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: I think the game is I think this is really
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: hard for them. They were a sign and develop and
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: build guys, and Man, that just doesn't exist in college
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: college football anymore. Uh. A guy doesn't hit the field
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: and he's gone. I think there's some coaches that the
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: that the that this doesn't mix. I want to talk
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: about which when we get to the A c C preview, Man,
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: I ain't people gonna be stunned how much I like
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: Clemson and the wide receiver development last year late in
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: the year with those two young kids was absolutely incredible.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: Boat Texas wide receivers that were high school kids last year.
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: Those kids are better. That's the most talented white Outs
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: they've had in years. You got club Nick. Those guys
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: have got another year under their belt. Man, I think
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: that team's gonna be good. Branded Jacob's kid is a
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: freshman over there, looks like a fricking beast. I mean
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: he may be a man child running the football. So
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: it's gonna be fascinating to see what the Clemson Tigers
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: are like too. Since we're talking about Marquet programs.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: I agree, I totally agree. Folks are gonna wrap it up.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Scott and now are gonna be dropping a lot of
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: episodes coming between now a week zero. Obviously we'll do
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: every conference. We've got some other ideas that some other
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: shows are putting together. If you gout is for shows
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: this up on Twitter, putting notes in the comments. Love
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: to hear from you on We're trying to do a
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: little bit more this year. We know there's a lot
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: more content out there than there's ever been. Something else
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: has been with us or those are just pound us.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: We'm glad to have you.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: But that being said, Brother Countdown is on. It is Thursday,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: and we are just six weeks away.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: From college football season and I am excited y'all have
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: some good weeks. Prayers to those that have been affected
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: by the weather. I hope everybody's families are safe. Thank
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: you for all those that are out putting in the
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: effort to get people home, and we will talk to
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: y'all soon.
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: A Hi brother enjoyed it.
