- 2:52Speaker 1: We're gonna jump right into a synopsis of a machu
- 2:55Speaker 1: pichu proposal.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Katie helps plan her brother's proposal a top machu pichu.
- 3:02Speaker 2: When the proposal is ruined by a spontaneous chef, Carlos,
- 3:06Speaker 2: Katie enlists Carlos to help her find the most romantic
- 3:11Speaker 2: spot in all of Perue.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Did Carlos ruin the proposal?
- 3:17Speaker 2: I mean, did she actually enlists him to help her
- 3:21Speaker 2: find a new spot.
- 3:24Speaker 1: She takes him along as her traveling buddy under the
- 3:27Speaker 1: guise of finding him new secret ingredients.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yes, which I think were grubs. Eventually, Have you ever
- 3:36Speaker 2: found a grub in your garden?
- 3:38Speaker 1: I don't believe so.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I don't know if that's exactly what those little shrimp
- 3:43Speaker 2: bugs were exactly when she cracked open whatever that root was.
- 3:49Speaker 2: But on occasion in the backyard I will find like
- 3:52Speaker 2: if I dig into the dirt, I will find those
- 3:56Speaker 2: They look like shrimp bugs.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever seen. But I don't also garden,
- 4:01Speaker 1: I don't do any gardener I know, but like wait
- 4:04Speaker 1: eating that. We tried to grow tomatoes one year and
- 4:07Speaker 1: we got those really terrifying tomato caterpillars with the crazy
- 4:11Speaker 1: eyes on the side of their heads. I couldn't do it.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I was out never again. A Machu Pichu Proposal was
- 4:17Speaker 1: directed by Colin Thays. Colin has directed several other movies
- 4:20Speaker 1: starring Rann and Fish in his career, including Polar Opposites
- 4:24Speaker 1: from January and A Costa Rican Wedding. Colin loves a
- 4:26Speaker 1: non location shoot, having also directed A Greek Recipe for
- 4:29Speaker 1: Romance and Loving the Maldives.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Juliana Wimbles wrote the script for A Machu Pichu Proposal.
- 4:36Speaker 2: This is Juliana's eighth act writing Sorry, this is Juliana's
- 4:40Speaker 2: eighth writing credit, having previously written This Time Each Year
- 4:45Speaker 2: and A Costa Rican Wedding. Juliana is also an accomplished actress.
- 4:51Speaker 2: She appears as Cobaker Cookie Jared Cobaker in the Hanna
- 4:56Speaker 2: Swanson mysteries.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Rhann and Fish stars as Katie and is currently on
- 5:00Speaker 1: the running for the star We've seen most frequently on
- 5:02Speaker 1: Hallmark in twenty twenty five, as she was in the
- 5:04Speaker 1: latest Sign Sealed Delivered installment, as well as Polar Opposites
- 5:08Speaker 1: during January. I think maybe the only person we've seen
- 5:11Speaker 1: as many times might be Alie Sweeney did Reann and Fish.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Was she in this last sigin Sel delivered movie. Yes,
- 5:19Speaker 2: but not like she didn't play a huge role like
- 5:21Speaker 2: she had previously. She was Charlie, I know, but she wasn't.
- 5:24Speaker 2: They went on a road trip on that and she
- 5:26Speaker 2: didn't go on that road trip. Okay, right, it's fine.
- 5:28Speaker 2: She didn't play a prominent she was just there.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Yeah, she held down the floor, I believe while they
- 5:34Speaker 1: were gone.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Alex Santos plays love interests Carlow. Alec previously appeared in
- 5:40Speaker 2: all four unwrapping Christmas movies re airing on Hallmark Channel
- 5:45Speaker 2: during Christmas in July. Btw, we are not reviewing those movies.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Christopher Via plays Katie's twin Dan. This is Christopher's first
- 5:54Speaker 1: appearance on Hallmark.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Michelle Rossello plays fiance Luciana. This is show's fourth acting
- 6:01Speaker 2: credit and her first time appearing on Hallmark.
- 6:03Speaker 1: We're gonna take a kick, great can come right back
- 6:05Speaker 1: with our first impressions of a Machu pichu proposal. Well, Wendy,
- 6:18Speaker 1: that was your first impression of a Machu pachu proposal.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It's not mean, but if this is what Hallmark is
- 6:24Speaker 2: buying these days, I've got a vacation slide show they
- 6:26Speaker 2: might be interested in.
- 6:28Speaker 1: My first impression is watching this movie felt a little
- 6:30Speaker 1: like hiking uphill both.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Ways one hundred percent. Can I just share a quick
- 6:38Speaker 2: thought here, Yeah, I don't understand why Hallmark continues to
- 6:44Speaker 2: purchase movies.
- 6:45Speaker 1: From certain production companies. Yeah, I only I have to
- 6:48Speaker 1: assume that it works out as a as a good
- 6:51Speaker 1: business decision for them, Like the purchase price versus the
- 6:54Speaker 1: money they stand to make by airing it from commercial revenue,
- 6:59Speaker 1: right might work out in their favor. Otherwise they wouldn't
- 7:02Speaker 1: continue to do it. But I would agree that movies
- 7:06Speaker 1: produced in house I prefer them same.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I just I'm sure there's been some good ones in
- 7:13Speaker 2: the past from this particular production company. But I also
- 7:16Speaker 2: believe that they have kind of built a reputation that
- 7:19Speaker 2: when I know it's one of their movies, I already
- 7:23Speaker 2: kind of go in with a.
- 7:25Speaker 1: We know they're working with a limited budget, and so
- 7:28Speaker 1: while I think you can absolutely make quality programming on
- 7:30Speaker 1: a limited budget, I think it does add some more challenges. Yeah,
- 7:35Speaker 1: and sometimes sometimes it chose Yeah, you want to talk
- 7:39Speaker 1: about likes I do.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Buckle up, let me hear yours well.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I think it's going to be everyone's favorite thing about
- 7:46Speaker 1: this movie. The Peruvian setting, it's mine. It's it's stunning.
- 7:51Speaker 1: The scenery of the cinematography. I mean, they do some
- 7:53Speaker 1: wide shots that you truly like, are stunning. You Stanmac
- 7:58Speaker 1: makes you want to visit It's gorgeous. The colors are
- 8:01Speaker 1: very vibrant. They shot in a variety of locales. I
- 8:05Speaker 1: appreciate that, and I was very drawn visually to the
- 8:10Speaker 1: scenery in this movie.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I agree when they were doing like the salt mining,
- 8:14Speaker 2: I yes, really super cool, mostly because I've never seen
- 8:18Speaker 2: anything like that before, Like I don't know how salt
- 8:23Speaker 2: comes to.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Be, especially that kind of salt, you know, I mean
- 8:26Speaker 1: to your point. In addition to the scenery, I think
- 8:29Speaker 1: they did a really great job of integrating the culture
- 8:32Speaker 1: of Shrew into this movie. With food. We have the
- 8:35Speaker 1: empanada making, we have the women in the textiles, we
- 8:39Speaker 1: have Pacha Mango which is cooking in mother air. We
- 8:42Speaker 1: had the chocolate moment. I just think it anchors the
- 8:46Speaker 1: film in a real place with real people, and that
- 8:49Speaker 1: was the most interesting part to me. I was like, yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 1: show me more about what it's like that. I don't
- 8:54Speaker 1: really care about what these what these guys are doing. Yeah,
- 8:57Speaker 1: running around cousin mischief. Nice point.
- 9:00Speaker 2: I did think that parade in the street thing was
- 9:03Speaker 2: kind of scary though, I'm because I don't like a mask,
- 9:08Speaker 2: so that was kind of terrifying for me personally. Sure,
- 9:11Speaker 2: but I can appreciate a cultural moment for sure, or
- 9:17Speaker 2: an experience like that. I think that's really cool. Peru
- 9:20Speaker 2: was also on top of my likes. The next like
- 9:23Speaker 2: that I have was the lamas goats and the sleeping dog. Yeah, like,
- 9:31Speaker 2: the human characters were not working for me, but at
- 9:33Speaker 2: least I got some like really cute animals that I
- 9:37Speaker 2: was interested in them, like that one scene where the
- 9:39Speaker 2: lady's like holding that baby goat and like I'm sling
- 9:42Speaker 2: and I was like, I want to do that.
- 9:44Speaker 1: That looks fun.
- 9:45Speaker 2: And then I don't know if you saw it, but
- 9:47Speaker 2: there was at the top of the movie they once
- 9:49Speaker 2: they get to Peru, there's just a dog sleeping like
- 9:53Speaker 2: on the side of the road by a busy street.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yeah, he's just snoozing, you know.
- 10:00Speaker 2: So is so wild to me when like you go
- 10:02Speaker 2: to a foreign country and they have like just wild
- 10:06Speaker 2: dogs on the streets.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Hmmm, crazy to me.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I remember one time I was in Turks and caicost
- 10:11Speaker 2: and I was like that. I was like, can somebody
- 10:14Speaker 2: get that dog please?
- 10:15Speaker 3: We know.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Do you have any other likes? I'm ready to talk wishes.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, you only had one like and it
- 10:22Speaker 2: was Peru, Peru and its people. Okay, that's not quisious then, okay,
- 10:28Speaker 2: I want to.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Talk about the final proposal. I think they leaned really
- 10:32Speaker 1: hard into Dan's like techiness. In his app. He makes
- 10:37Speaker 1: a couple throw away blink and you'll miss them comments
- 10:41Speaker 1: throughout the movie. There's one up top he says something
- 10:43Speaker 1: about geo tracking, which I clocked because you know, we
- 10:46Speaker 1: get a lot of these weird geo tracking hijinks in
- 10:48Speaker 1: some of these movies. And then at one point he's like,
- 10:50Speaker 1: look at this new photo app. All of that comes
- 10:53Speaker 1: together in theory in this proposal where we go from
- 10:58Speaker 1: projector shot to VR experience. And as I said, when
- 11:03Speaker 1: we were watching the movie, they didn't really land the
- 11:05Speaker 1: plane there. For me just thought, what's what's happening? What
- 11:10Speaker 1: in the fever dream is this?
- 11:12Speaker 2: I don't know why they needed to do that.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Honestly, here's the thing. They spent all this time trying
- 11:19Speaker 1: to come up with this beautiful proposal and this memorable
- 11:22Speaker 1: proposal and this photo worthy proposal. And I really hoped
- 11:25Speaker 1: that when all of their plans didn't work out for
- 11:30Speaker 1: various reasons, that when Katie's calling her brother, she's like,
- 11:33Speaker 1: don't worry, I have it under control. I wanted them
- 11:35Speaker 1: to be like, we don't need any of that, right,
- 11:38Speaker 1: it's beautiful because we're together. It could be with her family,
- 11:41Speaker 1: it could be sitting to dinner. The beauty is in
- 11:44Speaker 1: our relationship, not what the photo looks like. And then
- 11:47Speaker 1: they had to go create a faux beautiful moment and
- 11:51Speaker 1: I didn't love it.
- 11:53Speaker 2: No, And especially in like a world of chat GPT
- 11:58Speaker 2: in these like fied moments, that was really weird to me.
- 12:04Speaker 1: It was really weird to me.
- 12:06Speaker 3: And back to your point, like they could have easily
- 12:10Speaker 3: made turned any moment into a romantic moment, but they
- 12:13Speaker 3: were going so hard on Katie's She had a previous
- 12:18Speaker 3: like proposal right that went sideways.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Yeah, And this guy had like his special camera and
- 12:23Speaker 1: he wanted this three sixty shot. Yeah, I know, I
- 12:26Speaker 1: just needed to let it go.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I know, I thought it was just dumb, dumb for me.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Someone who hates hyjiinks it was hyjenks galore. God, this
- 12:36Speaker 2: is your personal Everest friends. I feel your pain from
- 12:41Speaker 2: losing the engagement ring to the like guy drinking the
- 12:46Speaker 2: dairy bass drink and then breaking out in hives from
- 12:50Speaker 2: the wool like all of that stuff, like kept building
- 12:54Speaker 2: and building and building.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I tap out, like well, and it's so much that
- 12:59Speaker 1: you start expecting it to happen at every moment. So
- 13:01Speaker 1: it did happen at it. When Katie's walking along the
- 13:04Speaker 1: salt flats, I'm like, oh, she's gonna fall in, And
- 13:06Speaker 1: when she did it, you're like, oh, it's almost surprising
- 13:09Speaker 1: because you just expect the worst at every turn. There
- 13:12Speaker 1: were a lot of moments that things could have gone
- 13:15Speaker 1: wrong and they didn't, and you start waiting for them
- 13:17Speaker 1: to simply because I mean, how many times are we
- 13:19Speaker 1: gonna drop the ring?
- 13:20Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 13:20Speaker 1: I know, stop carrying around a ring loosely in proposals?
- 13:25Speaker 2: Wasn't that was her movie a Coasta Rican. She lost
- 13:29Speaker 2: the ring in a Coasta Rican proposal.
- 13:33Speaker 1: I guess the message here is don't trust Rhann and
- 13:35Speaker 1: fish a costa Rican wedding.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, did I have the same name? Yeah,
- 13:40Speaker 2: don't because.
- 13:40Speaker 1: The monkey steals it.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Yeah, but she got blamed, you remember, because it was
- 13:45Speaker 2: in her bag. As an actor, do you look at
- 13:50Speaker 2: these script scripts and go, am I gonna play this
- 13:53Speaker 2: character again where I'm the responsible one? Who's where I'm
- 13:57Speaker 2: the one who is responsible for losing the engagement ring? Yeah,
- 14:00Speaker 2: she didn't lose it this time, her brother knocked it
- 14:02Speaker 2: into the chocolate fine. Speaking to her brother Dan is
- 14:07Speaker 2: just shut up, goofy.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Yeah. I think the idea was supposed to be that
- 14:10Speaker 1: they're like twin twin nerds and they like really have
- 14:15Speaker 1: that in common. They're these like strong type A personalities
- 14:17Speaker 1: and they like to control everything, and when they couldn't
- 14:21Speaker 1: control it, they couldn't handle their lives.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I feel that. I feel that. But he was so
- 14:30Speaker 2: like the way his reaction. She handled things better than
- 14:34Speaker 2: he did. He couldn't like recover. I thought, I don't know,
- 14:39Speaker 2: he just and then he turned so mean on her
- 14:42Speaker 2: when he like rips into her in this moment where
- 14:45Speaker 2: like his fiance, she turns her ankle and he finds
- 14:49Speaker 2: out that Carlos now knows about the proposal and blah
- 14:52Speaker 2: blah blah, which excuse me, was Carlos telling him, like,
- 14:56Speaker 2: do the proposal now when your fiance are soon to
- 14:59Speaker 2: be is here in pain on the ground, Like that
- 15:02Speaker 2: doesn't make any sense to me, But he was super
- 15:04Speaker 2: mean to his sister. I have siblings, but we're not
- 15:07Speaker 2: close enough age to have like fights like that, right,
- 15:09Speaker 2: I know you have a sibling that's.
- 15:11Speaker 3: You know what.
- 15:11Speaker 1: We like that not as an adults, but our relationship
- 15:15Speaker 1: is very surface level. We thought we did not get
- 15:17Speaker 1: along as children. But I, on the one hand, I
- 15:20Speaker 1: can understand. I'm the kind of person who like when
- 15:22Speaker 1: I get so frustrated and I am out of control,
- 15:25Speaker 1: like I will lash out at another person. I mean,
- 15:28Speaker 1: it's not a quality I like about myself. But it's like,
- 15:30Speaker 1: I'm so frustrated, I need to, like one little thing
- 15:33Speaker 1: put me over the edge, and I need you know,
- 15:35Speaker 1: she needed someone else to be at fault. I just
- 15:37Speaker 1: felt like nobody was really thinking things through here. Their
- 15:41Speaker 1: need to keep it a secret from Carlos was completely unnecessary,
- 15:45Speaker 1: agree because they just kept saying, well, Carlos will he
- 15:49Speaker 1: won't keep our secret Luciana is one of his best friends.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Why would Carlos not want her to have a beautiful proposal?
- 15:55Speaker 1: He wasn't trying to interfere in their relationships, So why
- 15:58Speaker 1: can't you trust that if you him in on your secret,
- 16:01Speaker 1: that he will then help make this the best possible
- 16:05Speaker 1: scenario for her? But they had no faith in him,
- 16:08Speaker 1: And all of this hijinks is based, in my opinion,
- 16:12Speaker 1: on a false premise about them needing to keep it
- 16:15Speaker 1: a secret from Carlos.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Well, and that because there's such control freaks and Carlos
- 16:19Speaker 2: is more of a like free go with the flow
- 16:22Speaker 2: kind of guy like that, they thought he was going
- 16:25Speaker 2: to ruin their big plan, but they couldn't even execute
- 16:29Speaker 2: their own plan.
- 16:30Speaker 1: No, they're like trying to have like double subterfuge here, right,
- 16:33Speaker 1: Like they're trying to keep the proposal a secret, and
- 16:35Speaker 1: she's taking Carlos on this like secret mission to find
- 16:40Speaker 1: these proposal spots on the premise that they're finding some
- 16:43Speaker 1: secret ingredient and to help his cooking it. There's too many, Lyne,
- 16:47Speaker 1: there's too much to too many plates spinning. I agree,
- 16:52Speaker 1: let's talk about or did you see that moment? I
- 16:55Speaker 1: have a couple. Yeah, just a couple.
- 16:57Speaker 2: The first one I have is at the top of
- 17:00Speaker 2: the movie and Katie is in her home cooking room
- 17:05Speaker 2: and there's wallpaper in the background, and I'm like, is
- 17:07Speaker 2: this a high school homet class or my nineteen ninety
- 17:10Speaker 2: two childhood bedroom. It was like a floral. I was like,
- 17:13Speaker 2: what's happening here? And that doesn't make any sense to me.
- 17:16Speaker 2: The next biggest one that I noticed that we enjoyed,
- 17:20Speaker 2: we spotted at the same time. There was obviously some
- 17:24Speaker 2: rainfall because when they got to Peru, Dan's shirt had
- 17:29Speaker 2: rain drops like all over it, and then the next
- 17:31Speaker 2: scene no rangeony dry. Yeah.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I have just a couple of little notes. There's a
- 17:38Speaker 1: lot of orange in the costuming of this movie. And
- 17:41Speaker 1: while I do think that this was a very colorful locale,
- 17:44Speaker 1: and I think there's a lot of vibrants in the colors,
- 17:48Speaker 1: I wondered if it was intentional because there's a lot
- 17:51Speaker 1: of orange. You commented, is this in your do you
- 17:54Speaker 1: have more digito? That's you commented that Katie and Dan
- 17:56Speaker 1: are often dressed very similarly to each other, almost like
- 18:01Speaker 1: matching outfits, but not same color ways. Yeah, when they're
- 18:06Speaker 1: exploring the markets on by Day, I mean Katie and Carlos.
- 18:11Speaker 1: There are multiple shots where she's all alone, and these
- 18:14Speaker 1: are what seemed to me would be pretty crowded markets.
- 18:17Speaker 1: They're narrow alleyways, there are small stalls for food and
- 18:23Speaker 1: text size, and there's Yeah that was so weird. And finally,
- 18:29Speaker 1: during one of in there's a they're in an alleyway
- 18:32Speaker 1: outside a restaurant and there's a canal running down the
- 18:35Speaker 1: center of the alleyway, and I just would absolutely have
- 18:37Speaker 1: stepped right in that and dripped without a doubt. Could
- 18:41Speaker 1: you imagine. I wonder how many people.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Have stepped in that and like turn their ankles.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I can't imagine.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it seems really dangerous.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm wondering. I'm wondering why that, why that is
- 18:52Speaker 1: the way it is.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I had one more note. And I'm not trying
- 18:56Speaker 2: to have some woman on woman crime here, but Rihanna
- 18:58Speaker 2: Fish's voice at times sounded like it was she had
- 19:03Speaker 2: kind of a little bit of a horse Yeah, I
- 19:05Speaker 2: think she cold, might head of cold. And then at
- 19:08Speaker 2: one time she uses like a baby voice, which really
- 19:11Speaker 2: is a choice.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I don't love. That's it. What did you rate this movie?
- 19:16Speaker 2: I gave it one star.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Oh, I give it to Wow. The scenery was enough
- 19:20Speaker 1: for me to give it too.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Really, I know, I'm trying to think back. I hate
- 19:26Speaker 2: when I do this. And I even asked you why
- 19:28Speaker 2: we were watching this? Is this better or worse than
- 19:31Speaker 2: the Hot Air Balloon movie from earlier this year? You
- 19:34Speaker 2: thought it was better?
- 19:35Speaker 1: I did.
- 19:36Speaker 2: I gave that movie a one star as well. Yeah.
- 19:40Speaker 2: For me, it's like a super bummer because I thought
- 19:42Speaker 2: the entire like the Passport to Love theme was good
- 19:46Speaker 2: and the other movies this month were good. It's a
- 19:49Speaker 2: bummer to end on this note.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:51Speaker 1: I didn't think the execution was super strong on this movie, unfortunately,
- 19:55Speaker 1: and that's it's a complete that did. Thank you for
