- 0:00Chris Daily, the associated coach of the Husky, said, joined us here,
- 0:03happy presidents, stay in a great atmosphere here at the Excel Center to
- 0:07see your team have another really good third and get separation, to get yourselves
- 0:11a tie for the Big East championship. Well, we don't recognize ties,
- 0:15but that's you know, it's just one step more. You're the one seed
- 0:18regardless. Now. Well yeah, but that I mean, and that's important
- 0:21obviously, but we want to win the whole thing right out. We don't
- 0:25want, we don't want, we don't like to share. Uh No,
- 0:29great atmosphere. Really appreciate the fans coming out on a day off, you
- 0:34know, on the President's Day for those that head off and those that had
- 0:37we our kids had to go to class. So the injured players went to
- 0:41the went to class. That's when they were they were a little they were
- 0:44tardy. Yeah, they were a little like the late arriving crowd that we
- 0:46have sometimes with but class, you know. But anyway, it was a
- 0:52great game. I mean, I think you have to give them a lot
- 0:54of credit. They're a difficult team to defend, and I thought we did
- 0:58a really really good job. And say that, I think Jensen still had
- 1:02twenty one and Molly had twenty or something like that. Molly had sixteen,
- 1:06but that's pretty much their offense. Ron Soick again struggled. They really made
- 1:10it hard for you, forced other people to put the ball in the bucket
- 1:12early. Every time Alie had touched the ball, it was like she was
- 1:15a magnet and she was just getting two or three players around her, and
- 1:18we kept throwing it in there. And you have to really be care You
- 1:21have to be really careful because like a lot of teams in our league,
- 1:23they put two and three or four people in the lane and it really limits
- 1:27what you can do. You can't put the ball on the floor. But
- 1:30I give Alee a lot of credit. She kept battling. I thought she
- 1:33got hit a lot, handled it rebounded well, and then we started making
- 1:37shots. That third quarter that was a lot of fun. I mean,
- 1:42we went in, they scored the first five points, and then we came
- 1:45out and I don't even know what the final was in that in that quarter.
- 1:48But you know, it's been a long stretch this weekend, and it's
- 1:53been a long weekend. It feels like we played Friday and then you know,
- 1:56Monday, But we have a couple of days off and we can get
- 1:59gear up for the last couple games in the regular season. Now, your
- 2:01take on the defense, I thought throughout the game a lot of times,
- 2:06you know a team, you come out, everybody's you know, intense,
- 2:07and then it's going back and forth. But it really I think Creighton just
- 2:12couldn't withstand the pressure that you continued to put on. Our defense wasn't the
- 2:15problem even in the first half. If you hold a team that didn't score
- 2:19as quickly as they can with to only thirty one points. It was really
- 2:22on the offensive end where we weren't changing sides and making them have to defend.
- 2:25We were really letting them off easy, easily. But then you know,
- 2:30we were able to put a little bit of both together, where we
- 2:32were on defensive pressuring and rebounding the ball well and not giving them second looks,
- 2:38and then being able to convert on the other end on the offensive end,
- 2:42got in, got out in transition a little bit, which was good.
- 2:45No dominant rebounder day Ashland led the way with nine. She was offensively
- 2:50Yeah, I did not know she had nine. Eliah had eight. A
- 2:52bunch of them KK page Nika all had six well the way, so when
- 2:57you play a team that shoots as many threes a lot along, guards really
- 3:00have to and they weren't really hitting the offensive glass. They were getting the
- 3:05ones that were coming out long. So if you run in you have a
- 3:07tend you know you're not going to get those. So the guards, that's
- 3:09one reason. The guards had a lot of rebounds and should I mean that
- 3:15that's what happens, and they need to do that and help Leah out.
- 3:16And she gave you Ashland gave you much na offense today. She did.
- 3:21She knocked in some shots. I mean, we hadn't been shooting the ball
- 3:24particularly well from three, but I thought we made how many threes we make
- 3:29we make more than they did? Yes, yes, that was the goal.
- 3:30That was one of the goals, hi Jack. They made they made
- 3:36I think they averaged nine a game, and so our goal was to make
- 3:39more than they did and we did. So that's good. So your take
- 3:43as far as you say the long week, they seem still fresh like it
- 3:47did. You didn't use you know, maybe and not as you know,
- 3:53we didn't have a great practice yesterday this morning. We didn't do a walk.
- 3:58We did a walk through at the hotel, did not do a walk
- 4:00through on the court, so because it was such an early game. But
- 4:02yesterday it was not our best our best practice, you know, prior to
- 4:09the game. But we had enough. You know, sometimes it and I
- 4:13say this and I kind of laugh when you realize we won by twenty.
- 4:15But you have to grind it out and you know, you have to grind
- 4:17out possessions, you have to grind out quarters and still be able to stay
- 4:20with it, and we were able to do that today. Chris, what's
- 4:23the game plan? You don't play again until Sunday. Do you give these
- 4:26guys a couple of days just to get away from the game and just worry
- 4:29about being students. Yeah, they're gonna have h Well, they'll have two
- 4:31days off and actually coach just said it's like a year, right. Well,
- 4:34yeah, he just said two days off, and he said, we'll
- 4:36see you Wednesday, because it feels like Sunday because it's Monday, so you
- 4:40know, so we're like, no, no, no, we'll see you
- 4:42Thursday. So they'll have two days off. Do you lock the door and
- 4:44keep them out of the gym? Yeah? Well, you know, he
- 4:46said it was probably a good idea for them to get you know, and
- 4:48get themselves some rest and catch up a school and you know, get in
- 4:53a good place. I don't know how many of them will do that.
- 4:59I think tomorrow will. I think they get antsy, and some of them
- 5:02that want to shoot the ball a little bit better may get in on Wednesday,
- 5:05but they I think they'll take some time off. It's nice to have
- 5:09that hunger though, huh. I mean just that they can't wait to be
- 5:13back with you. Well, I don't know, maybe not specifically. I
- 5:15don't know if it's with us, but they know. I mean, I
- 5:18think if if you if you are a basketball junkie, and we have a
- 5:23lot of kids that are, they're just gym rats and going a day without
- 5:27being in there. But I think there's also time, and this is one
- 5:30of them where some time off would be good. They need to get some
- 5:32rest and so that'll be a good thing, all right. Final note,
- 5:35how much did you enjoy Senior Night the postgame activities other than Page's announcement.
- 5:45Well, I have to say I'm kidding because now when people like Coach made
- 5:47a joke, and I think some people in the media took him seriously,
- 5:51but when he said something about he was going to come back until she said
- 5:56she was coming. Yes, I know, but sometimes people or when they
- 6:00said or when they when he said, I had to force her to make
- 6:02a decision. It wasn't forcing her to come here. It was making her
- 6:06announce it because she had already committed. But that's another start anyway. No,
- 6:12it was great. You know, I wasn't really sure how I was
- 6:15gonna like the after the game, and I you know, you're always concerned.
- 6:19You want fans to be there to appreciate your seniors. But with three
- 6:23national anthems and four seniors and senior managers, we wouldn't have had enough time.
- 6:28We had to start the day before, so at least, but you're
- 6:30worried about are we you know, if we don't win, what kind of
- 6:33celebration is it? But good, all of that, all of that,
- 6:36you know, everything fell into place, and it's it's always nice to see
- 6:43them. Our players appreciated the way they were and I don't think many people
- 6:46left and their parents were there to see how much you know, the fans
- 6:48here appreciate them, so that was important. Did you watch the men Saturday?
- 6:53By any chance I could only watch a little bit because we were traveling.
- 6:58Okay, I went recruiting the guys in today. Unanimous number one.
- 7:01Awesome And you know what they remind they remind me of your great teams.
- 7:04They're so unselfish, they're deep. If Donovan plays the way he did on
- 7:09Saturday, no one's beating him. I mean, they got so many weapons.
- 7:13I mean, they're fun to watch, and they're unselfish, that's the
- 7:15thing. And that reminds me of Hey, I've seen this before many many
- 7:18years. Well it's I thought that was a big game and a big statement
- 7:24when and they've got another one coming up at Creighton. So we took care
- 7:27of a Creton today and hopefully they'll take care of them. It's tomorrow.
- 7:30It is tomorrow night, so the guys are flying out probably within the hour
- 7:32or so. Yeah, they're very good. They're and they're a good group
- 7:35of guys there. You know, there's a good camaraderie I think, certainly
- 7:40with the coaches and with the players. They spend a lot of time in
- 7:42the same area. So it's nice to see that. I say, let's
- 7:45let's give kudos. Like coaches forget everybody forgets. Players get to relax as
- 7:50from a player's effective coaches had it so easy. Now I realize all them
- 7:54behind the scenes and all the work that goes. I noticed in that right,
- 7:58she's going recruiting and setting being able to enjoy a Saturday, right.
- 8:01Yeah, well yeah, and the flight out was yeah, I think it
- 8:03was at four, so I only got to see a little bit. And
- 8:05then when I landed and you look at the score, I'm like, ohoh,
- 8:07okay, yeah, it was closed for a while and then yeah,
- 8:11we started out close. But that's why it's forty minutes, right, that's
- 8:13right. They had this habit like you used to they made they made Marquete
- 8:18didn't play great, but they had this habit like the women used to do.
- 8:20They make good teams look bad on a given day, and we'll see
- 8:24how that plays out the next time. They can do it again tomorrow.
- 8:26That's right. CD is always a pleasurable in Chicago, thank you. All
- 8:31right, that's Chris Daily and the Daily Recap.
