Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You loved.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hey, this is Micro from Crip Crawler. We're a Western
- 0:26Speaker 2: Australian death metal band. We've got our new album, The
- 0:28Speaker 2: Immortal Realm, coming out on Friday September thirteen. Catch us
- 0:33Speaker 2: all around Australia the September October as we tour the
- 0:36Speaker 2: twenty four twenty twenty four Australian Immortality Tour.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Fantastic Markay, how are you doing it? I brother?
- 0:43Speaker 4: Yeah, going well, thanks man, didn't you?
- 0:45Speaker 3: Yeah, very very good, but very good.
- 0:46Speaker 5: Yeah, as you say, You'll be released in a new album,
- 0:49Speaker 5: The Immortal Realm, this.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Friday, September thirteighth. Flight.
- 0:52Speaker 5: You can't tell me it's the coincidence that you're dropping
- 0:54Speaker 5: it on Friday the thirty eight.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Well, as an independent band, we get to choose whenever
- 0:58Speaker 2: we want to drop it, and that date in the calendar,
- 1:00Speaker 2: and I was like, that's the one.
- 1:02Speaker 5: It's actually funny as I was looking through it before
- 1:04Speaker 5: and like there's about five or six interviews that I've
- 1:06Speaker 5: got and everyone's dropped, like all international for everywhere drop
- 1:09Speaker 5: it on the same day, And at first it didn't. Jerry,
- 1:12Speaker 5: I'm sitting there going like, why the fuck are so
- 1:13Speaker 5: many bands dropping shit this Friday, and then it's like,
- 1:16Speaker 5: look at the date, idiot.
- 1:19Speaker 4: I love my horror movie. So yep, thirteenth it is, so.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Tell us a bit more about the immortal role from
- 1:26Speaker 5: a musical point of view, then, bro and sort of
- 1:28Speaker 5: what you're going for with it.
- 1:30Speaker 2: So we've tried to take a step up from the
- 1:33Speaker 2: previous album. It's what you expect from Krip Crawler, except
- 1:37Speaker 2: all the songs are punch here. We've stuck to eight songs,
- 1:41Speaker 2: no filler on the album, and I think it just
- 1:45Speaker 2: the album as a whole is a little bit groovier,
- 1:48Speaker 2: bit more melody and.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Just straight up punch to the face with all eight tracks.
- 1:54Speaker 5: But when you say that you take a step up
- 1:56Speaker 5: from the last album, like, do you you sort of
- 1:59Speaker 5: sit there and look back at the old albums and
- 2:02Speaker 5: discuss what you could do better and how you could
- 2:04Speaker 5: improve or is it something you just do in the studio.
- 2:06Speaker 2: No, definitely, we learned a few lessons from the previous album,
- 2:12Speaker 2: Future Surfer, which there's some really great songs on that album,
- 2:15Speaker 2: but there's a few songs which maybe we're a bit
- 2:17Speaker 2: of a filler track or the album pat was padded
- 2:20Speaker 2: out a bit too long being at forty six minutes
- 2:23Speaker 2: versus this new album which is thirty three minutes. So
- 2:25Speaker 2: just wanted to make sure to straight stretch to your
- 2:28Speaker 2: face punch and yeah, just look back on the songwriting
- 2:32Speaker 2: and just trying to make sure that we can really
- 2:35Speaker 2: make everything so cohesive and release the best album possible.
- 2:38Speaker 2: And we always learned from our past mistakes and bring
- 2:41Speaker 2: them into the future to make everything that we do better.
- 2:44Speaker 5: Yeah, it doesn't really seem like I might say, but
- 2:46Speaker 5: like you talked about the album length, like you're gone
- 2:48Speaker 5: from forty six minutes to thirty three, So it's only
- 2:51Speaker 5: thirteen minutes. But in the modern age when people's attention
- 2:54Speaker 5: spans are just so exactly that thirty minutes is a
- 2:57Speaker 5: major difference.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Of course, we look the you know, Spotify players on
- 3:01Speaker 2: the album as well, Like you look at all those things,
- 3:03Speaker 2: those analytics and whatnot, and you just see like the
- 3:06Speaker 2: drop off as it goes down. Even though the like
- 3:08Speaker 2: the last drop, the last track of Future Surper is
- 3:10Speaker 2: one of my favorites, Like it doesn't get the attention
- 3:13Speaker 2: to deserves in comparison to the first you know, thirty
- 3:16Speaker 2: minutes of the album. So that's what we've done with
- 3:18Speaker 2: this album, Like we want to make sure that you know,
- 3:20Speaker 2: the album retains the listeners attention span in like you
- 3:25Speaker 2: said in This Day and Age.
- 3:27Speaker 5: Yeah, you've released the singles Higher Society, You Shrine, Have Sacrificed,
- 3:31Speaker 5: and the Immortal Realm. So are those three a good
- 3:34Speaker 5: package deal or what do you expect from the whole
- 3:36Speaker 5: album or they just sort of.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Just a bit of a Definitely, like they're three of
- 3:40Speaker 2: the strongest tracks, but they're there was reasons why we
- 3:44Speaker 2: chose those particular tracks as well. We've got another track
- 3:47Speaker 2: another music video, sorry I mean, coming out this Friday
- 3:50Speaker 2: along with the album, which is an even heavier song
- 3:53Speaker 2: than the past three we just released.
- 3:55Speaker 4: So yeah, like those those three tracks.
- 3:57Speaker 2: That we've actually got out at the moment, a nice
- 4:00Speaker 2: blend of melody and there's like a nice blended progressiveness
- 4:04Speaker 2: and just be abrutality of what you expect from a
- 4:08Speaker 2: death metal band.
- 4:10Speaker 5: Yeah, you imagine the fact before that you guys are independent,
- 4:13Speaker 5: so you just make all these calls yourself. But how
- 4:16Speaker 5: much time goes into planning what songs are going to
- 4:19Speaker 5: release and like what sort of demographic they're going to
- 4:21Speaker 5: cover and that sort of thing.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Let's just say that outside of full full time work,
- 4:27Speaker 2: I'm constantly working on crick Crawler, So yeah, a lot
- 4:30Speaker 2: of work goes into this. I spent a lot of
- 4:33Speaker 2: time trying to plan our moves, I guess and figure
- 4:38Speaker 2: out what we're trying to do. I get input from
- 4:40Speaker 2: the rest of the band, but I pretty much trying. Yeah,
- 4:44Speaker 2: like I have a plan of a schedule going forward
- 4:46Speaker 2: and trying to figure out what we're doing with everything
- 4:48Speaker 2: with every step that we take.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:51Speaker 5: Now, the song A Higher Society features a guest appearance
- 4:54Speaker 5: from the legendary James Murphy from Death Obituary and others.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Made like that's a pretty big coup getting him on
- 4:59Speaker 5: the song bro about.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I'm still blown away by the fact that we've got
- 5:03Speaker 2: him on our on one of our songs. I remember
- 5:05Speaker 2: when we first started this band where we're looking at
- 5:09Speaker 2: We're like, oh, what sort of solo should this song have.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Let's go look at this James Murphy solo. Like he's
- 5:13Speaker 2: the big influence on our band. The way it came
- 5:16Speaker 2: about is an absolute legend of a fan that we
- 5:19Speaker 2: have from Sydney named Rayl. He messaged us and said, hey, listen.
- 5:24Speaker 2: I've just been speaking to James Murphy and I showed
- 5:26Speaker 2: him your stuff and I was just like what. James
- 5:30Speaker 2: Murphy ended up commenting on our Forced Sorry Forces Bed
- 5:35Speaker 2: to the Dead music video, and I was just like wow,
- 5:38Speaker 2: like this is actually like legit, like he actually likes
- 5:40Speaker 2: our music. And Rayel pretty much said to us, look,
- 5:44Speaker 2: I can get James to do a solo for you guys,
- 5:46Speaker 2: And I was like, yes, yes, please. So it all
- 5:50Speaker 2: came about pretty naturally, but it was a very welcome
- 5:53Speaker 2: addition to the album.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Now, the press release says Prowl and they're describing your
- 6:00Speaker 5: musical style anyway. They say you've got an old school
- 6:03Speaker 5: sound with a modern approach, right.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Would you agree with that assessment? I do.
- 6:08Speaker 2: We definitely have that eighties and nineties death metal sound. However,
- 6:12Speaker 2: we do take a lot of influence from current data
- 6:14Speaker 2: metal bands, whether they be death metal or whether they
- 6:17Speaker 2: be groove metal or whatever, like all across the metal spectrum,
- 6:22Speaker 2: we take all our influences in Like I'm Trying to
- 6:24Speaker 2: Sacrifice has a pretty uh what do you say? I
- 6:28Speaker 2: look on the nose Lamb of God vibe with some
- 6:31Speaker 2: of the riffing Now they're not like necessarily like a
- 6:35Speaker 2: full death metal band like they were, like they started
- 6:37Speaker 2: off very heavy, but not necessarily anymore. But we just
- 6:39Speaker 2: took that essence, I guess, and injected into the cryp
- 6:43Speaker 2: crawler sound. And yeah that's what That's where a lot
- 6:46Speaker 2: of the modern stuff comes in. We just take whatever
- 6:49Speaker 2: influence we have and make it crip crawler.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Yeah sure.
- 6:53Speaker 5: Now the old school metal like people are pretty pretty
- 6:57Speaker 5: passionate about it, pretty protective about it, mate, So like, yeah,
- 7:00Speaker 5: when do you put your own spin on that? Like,
- 7:03Speaker 5: is it is a trial and error you just sort
- 7:04Speaker 5: of see what works or do you sit down and
- 7:06Speaker 5: sort of make a plan to see which direction you
- 7:08Speaker 5: can go in and how.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Do you how do you do that?
- 7:10Speaker 2: I think it all comes about quite naturally. We're always
- 7:14Speaker 2: testing riffs and seeing what works a lot of the time,
- 7:18Speaker 2: Like if someone plays a riff and someone else doesn't
- 7:21Speaker 2: like it, like you know, we either try and make
- 7:23Speaker 2: it better or we we sort of steer it to
- 7:27Speaker 2: how it should be sounding in regards to our influences
- 7:30Speaker 2: and what we think that crip caller should sound like. Now,
- 7:34Speaker 2: I listen to metal pretty much constantly, Like I love
- 7:39Speaker 2: all the old old school metal stuff. I love modern
- 7:42Speaker 2: day metal and and I know, I know how protective
- 7:45Speaker 2: fans are of the metal and I'm and I completely
- 7:49Speaker 2: understand it. And you know, it's it's our goal to
- 7:52Speaker 2: to be a real fucking world class metal band.
- 7:57Speaker 5: Now you mentioned this before, Rough, but you've got an
- 7:59Speaker 5: Australia's All coming up starting in Sydney on September twenty
- 8:03Speaker 5: then you hit Melbourne, Freemantle, Perth, Brisbane and Gold Coast
- 8:05Speaker 5: and finish in Adelaide on October twenty sixth. But it's
- 8:09Speaker 5: a decent run of shows, made you cover on some territory.
- 8:11Speaker 2: We are we we love touring Australia, Like what can
- 8:16Speaker 2: we say, Like you know, every show, like every time
- 8:18Speaker 2: we've we've gone over East and gone outside of Perth,
- 8:21Speaker 2: like we've had some amazing times. And you know, being
- 8:26Speaker 2: an independent bander again like we like I've mentioned before,
- 8:29Speaker 2: we have to do all these plans ourselves.
- 8:31Speaker 4: And you know, if we want to look as.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Professional as we are and we want to come across
- 8:35Speaker 2: to everywhere in Australia, like we need, we need to
- 8:37Speaker 2: do that ourselves and make it, make it work. And
- 8:41Speaker 2: is that what we're doing We're trying to make sure
- 8:43Speaker 2: we get to everyone and everyone sees us and everyone
- 8:45Speaker 2: gets a no crip crawler.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:48Speaker 5: In between that, somewhere, you've also got a hometown show
- 8:51Speaker 5: with a little known band, Court Nile.
- 8:54Speaker 3: That's pretty fucking exciting, Bro.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I am so sloke for that. The new album is
- 8:58Speaker 2: incredible and I cannot wait for that show.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Yeah. How do you prepare yourself for something like that?
- 9:03Speaker 5: Man? Like, Like, you can't just kid yourself and say
- 9:05Speaker 5: it's just another show.
- 9:09Speaker 4: We I guess we do have to say it's just
- 9:11Speaker 4: another show.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Like, you know, we have to go into every like
- 9:15Speaker 2: every show has the same mentality. Like even if we're
- 9:18Speaker 2: playing to fifty people, we're playing to five hundred people.
- 9:21Speaker 2: You have to give those same bands the exact same
- 9:24Speaker 2: respect they deserve. And going into a Nile show, there's
- 9:28Speaker 2: gonna be a lot more people watching us, and it
- 9:30Speaker 2: just it's just it's just gonna be another cryp caller
- 9:32Speaker 2: show that we put our heart and stolen too to
- 9:36Speaker 2: make sure that's the best possible experience for the fans.
- 9:39Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:40Speaker 5: Now I'm gonna have to bring this one up too, bro,
- 9:41Speaker 5: because you had a You've had a pretty good year, Mate,
- 9:43Speaker 5: Like back in May, you played Hamasonic over in over
- 9:47Speaker 5: in Asia, Mate, Like there's bands Blam of Gold actually,
- 9:50Speaker 5: Cradle of Field, vend and megh Be a Factory.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Like what the fuck? How how good was.
- 9:54Speaker 2: That that was? That was incredible? It wasn't even something
- 9:58Speaker 2: that we were expecting to do this year. Just the
- 10:00Speaker 2: message came through and we were like, let's let's do it.
- 10:03Speaker 2: We have to get on board. It was this year,
- 10:04Speaker 2: like just over three weeks before the festival. I think
- 10:07Speaker 2: we got to Wow Old and we're like, yep, we
- 10:10Speaker 2: have to make sure that everyone's checked to go. I
- 10:12Speaker 2: had to when I a guitaristed to rush a passport
- 10:14Speaker 2: through and yeah, we make sure we got over there
- 10:16Speaker 2: and it was an incredible experience. It was blistering hot,
- 10:19Speaker 2: but I wouldn't.
- 10:20Speaker 4: Change an absolute thing for the world. It was incredible
- 10:22Speaker 4: over there.
- 10:24Speaker 5: How were those bigger bands to the mate, Like, did
- 10:25Speaker 5: they did they give me the time of day? Did
- 10:27Speaker 5: they sort of respect the fact that you were there
- 10:29Speaker 5: doing what you do? Yeah?
- 10:30Speaker 2: We definitely got We got to hang out with Misery Index,
- 10:32Speaker 2: We got to speak to Nevosa. Who else did we
- 10:37Speaker 2: get to speak to Lamb of God? Walk past us,
- 10:39Speaker 2: which is pretty pretty insane. Yeah, it was, it was,
- 10:44Speaker 2: it was, It was an awesome experience. Like as soon
- 10:46Speaker 2: as we finished our set, we literally took two seconds
- 10:49Speaker 2: to go backstage, you know, dry off because it was
- 10:51Speaker 2: sweltering on that stage, and then we sprinted over to
- 10:54Speaker 2: see suffocation side of stage and that was again mind blowing.
- 10:58Speaker 5: Good brave, well deserved. But I think all we got
- 11:01Speaker 5: the time for tonight. The new album, The Emotional Realm,
- 11:04Speaker 5: is out this Friday, September thirteenth. I listened to her
- 11:07Speaker 5: before this, mate, and it blew my fucking ears off.
- 11:09Speaker 5: It's a nice slavery brutality. Mate, well done.
- 11:11Speaker 6: You're telling body you're dead, your.
- 11:37Speaker 7: Your bady batulas night.
- 11:42Speaker 8: Yeah, I did that to my cool.
- 11:47Speaker 7: First door doorly you're board.
