- 0:01SPEAKER_02: Well, hey everybody.
- 0:02SPEAKER_02: Welcome to yet another exciting episode of the Steve and Jeff Experience Podcast.
- 0:06SPEAKER_02: I'm Steve.
- 0:07SPEAKER_02: And I'm Jeff.
- 0:08SPEAKER_02: How's it going, Steve?
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: Hey, Jeff, it's going so great.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: Is going so great.
- 0:11SPEAKER_02: And you know, I I know after the last show we were a little a little sad to break up with our our psychologists.
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: I I think I can say our psychologist because we we shared her.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: We did.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: It was a it was a thruple.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Is that what it was called?
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: It was three.
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: It was a it was it was a threesome.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: It was like one of those Julie and Jim things, you know, but but but I digress.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: But it you know, it was sad.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: It was very sad.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: And it was very sad.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: I think we'll recover.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: I think we will get better.
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: But oh Jeff, you know, we've got such an exciting show tonight.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: You you're not gonna believe this.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: You know, Jeff, this this show really likes to talk about the big issues, the important things, the things that matter, the things that people care about, the things that people talk about, the things that people worry about, what keeps them up at night?
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: We're gonna talk about that tonight.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: We've we're going back into the political realm, Jeff.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: Ooh, it's exciting.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: We're going back into the political realm.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: You remember uh a few weeks ago we had uh Mayfield Johnson, who was running for the legislature, the unicameral, we call it in in Nebraska, in my district.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: You remember when Yeah, I remember was his slogan vote for Mike Johnson?
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: Vote for Mike Johnson, yes.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: It was yeah, that and I, you know, very he's it is it is he's doing pretty well out here.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: But you know, Jeff, in the interest of fairness, in the interest of equal time, even though we legally do not have to give equal time anymore, because hey, news is entertainment, but right, but I digress it.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: We still want to be fair, and so in the interest of equal time, we've got his opponent is on our show tonight, the gentleman running against him.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: And I think if I if my notes are correct, I think his name is Ted McConnell.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, the name is the name is Ted McConnell.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Okay, and and thank you both for you know uh giving me time, uh I guess out of the goodness of your heart.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Um yes, yes.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Well, legally we don't have to, but we thought, you know, why not?
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Because you know, you're you're running in my district too.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: I I'm one of your one of your constituents.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: That is correct, yes.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: It's uh you you have a choice between me and Mr.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Johnson.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Uh but uh yes, uh and again, uh not only you, but I'm sure plenty of people who hear this are also in that same district.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: So I just want to make sure that they they are more informed uh when they vote.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, absolutely.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: I think that's important.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: I I to be honest with you, I didn't even know you were gonna be on the show today.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: So um, but I'm sure Mayfield Johnson don't know the man, I can't vote for him anyway.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: I'm in Illinois, but I liked his style and his slogan, which is you know, was it vote for my Johnson?
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: I I think slogans are so important.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Now, not very Ted Ted.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Do you have do you have a slogan?
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Yes, I I have a slogan.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: It's um Ted McConnell, a man you can trust.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: With what?
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: With like oh, is that it?
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's the whole thing with anything.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: See, that's the thing.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: You can trust him with, you know, your your family, your money, your liabilities, your you know, anything you want to think of.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: It's it's a trusting thing, and and I want to make sure that I'm guiding uh the people when it comes to the decisions Nebraska has to make.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: Let's say that we're we're in this studio here, and uh, because I mean you're on the other side of the glass, but let's say you're on this side and I leave five dollars on the table here and I turn around.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: That five dollars will still be there when I turn back, right?
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: Not if I'm there, Steve.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, let's pretend Jeff's not there.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay, okay, okay.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, the glass would prevent me from taking it, but I I feel like if it's a situation where you've left the money out, you need to be taught somewhat of a lesson in responsibility.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: You just uh idly leave it out there.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: So I do that, you know, if when someone leaves money, they need to be taught the lesson that the money is something that you need to watch carefully.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: It's you don't want to, as is you know, uh, and what I plan to do in Nebraska is make sure that the money isn't being spent frivolously.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Ah, ah, I love that.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: You know, that's a great point because you know, in like in hotels, if you leave money sitting on the table, absolutely the main figures it's a tip and it's gone.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, and they take it.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I I would assume I don't stay in hotels.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: So you don't travel?
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Oh no, I travel, I just uh stay with others when I travel.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: I'm a man of the people.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: Ah staying.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: I like the people.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: Well, well, that's that's quite interesting.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Yes, Ted, you're a Republican, right?
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Uh oh, absolutely.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, good, good.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: So I I could tell by fiscal responsibility, uh staying at people's houses.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: I guess that's kind of a republic.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that's a Republican.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Some would call it stingy, but yeah, no, I stay in people's houses.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: So it's frugal, you know, it's a frugal way to travel.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's thoughtful and frugal.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, one of the things, Ted, that we talked to Mayfield about a long time ago, there were a couple burning issues.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Um, again, I don't live in Nebraska, but Steve, I think there was an issue related to like restaurants or Cubans or Cuban restaurants, one of the three.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: One one of the things uh one of the things that I brought up with Mayfield Johnson was I think one of the most important issues facing our district today is that there is just not a good Cuban restaurant nearby.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, of course, in the district store or in the city.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: It's too spicy of a food, really.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I but I like Cuban food.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: What is wrong with a nice grilled cheese sandwich?
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: You know, just a piece of white bread and two pieces of American cheese put together and griddle.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: You know, it's it's I don't need to bring spice into a sandwich.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: You know, that's that is kind of like a mac and cheese sandwich.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: And when we had my mom on, we really talked about how I I love mac and cheese.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: I've been a mac and cheese guy for everyone.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: I'm sure I would love I would love to talk to your mother, I'm sure.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, she oh, she would really enjoy talking to you.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: Yes, don't let her smoke around you though.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: Ooh, yeah, no, got a big problem with that.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: But it but but I digress, but sometimes she just smokes, just smokes, but and I just like cigarettes now, it's just you know, just smokes, you know.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: Oh dear.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Well, you're off to a really good start.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Those are really, really good answers.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think it's great on my side, because I I don't live in Nebraska, I live in Illinois, and as you may know, that Illinois has uh legalized marijuana, and one of the questions that I asked uh Mr.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Johnson was whether he was in support of legalizing uh drugs in um Nebraska.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: Uh, would you like to respond to that as well?
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: I assume he said he was for it.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: He was not only for it, was it was Steve?
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: Was there something about transporting it analyzed?
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: You know, I wish I remembered better.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: I I I think I was a little high in the time, but I that seems crass.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: That seems crass.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Uh no, I'm ass, if not crass.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: I am for values and for you know, making sure that one of the important things in life is that you have your thoughts to yourself, that you're able to think out loud and think clearly and make great decisions.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: And to me, it's just hard to do that when you have illegal drugs in or around you, uh, and also just bringing in the crime element that you would have.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: I just feel like it's it's not a risk worth taking.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Uh gambling, weed, uh, drugs, marijuana, paraphernalia, all of that.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: It just to me it's more trouble than it's worth.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: Well, now now, Ted, you you mentioned illegal drugs.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: Uh, isn't there an argument that if it was legalized, then it wouldn't be an illegal drug and it would be more regulated and might keep some of the criminal element out of it?
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, there are there might still be some criminal element, but at least you'd have most people not participating in the criminal side.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: And if it was a good drug, it would already be legal.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: So potato potato.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: Ah, ah.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: I mean Steve, he's he's a handful.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um he's you know this, he's thought he's thought about this a long time.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: I can tell.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: I I trust myself with the with the people of Nebraska.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: So again, clear mind.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: So here I have a question for you.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: You know, I guess I'm liberal.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: I watch MSNBC sometimes, and I know there's five.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Then there's no need to guess, sir.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: But the one thing I notice is that the women on MSNBC aren't even close to as good looking as the ones on Fox.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Is is that something that you support?
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, can you repeat the question again?
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: No, I does he support the better looking ones, or is it?
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Do I support hot women?
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Is that what you were asking, Jeff?
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: That you know that's a good question.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: You can answer that question.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: You can answer that question.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Simplified, yes.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: I support hot women.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, there you go.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: See, I enjoy the person that is giving me the bad news to look better.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a smile.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: It's again when you say say bad news in a happy way, it's usually helpful when it's from an attractive blonde woman.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: It feels better.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's still it's still like hundreds dead in in storm, but you know, it just sounds better, right?
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: You know, I would rather speak yeah, I would rather have hot women.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, in the MSN tone, I mean, it just sounds like they're saying I told you so.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: When Rachel Maddow tells me that a small town got cleared because of a hurricane or uh, you know, a hurricane or a tornado, it always just feels like it's an implied and I told you so.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: Kind of a scolding, yes, yes.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Megan J did not have that.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: No, no, and she's also she's got that big head.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: I think that there's something about women with big heads that feel like they're scolding you.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: It's it's just a thing.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: But speaking of hot women, Steve, I don't know how many times I've said to you, Marjorie Taylor Greene.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, there you go.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: And smart, you know, smoking.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Talk about smoking, yeah.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: She she is she is an outspoken leader, and and I and I will give her uh credit on the fact that she's willing to stand up and give an opinion.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: So I like to stands up.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: Would you say, Ted, would you say you agree with a lot of what she does, what she represents?
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: I think what she does, she does correctly.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Now, I had heard that she has the nickname.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: You know how you use the first couple letters of somebody's name, and that's kind of like uh like like I'm I'm my middle name's Barry, so I'd be like JB or whatever.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: In her case, it's it's empty, empty green, right?
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: That's empty green.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Do you call her empty?
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Uh no, I I I call her Marjorie.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Uh Madge if I'm feeling a little frisky.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Ah, and who doesn't around her?
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: It's just intoxicating.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: Well, now now, Ted, intoxicating, we're not implying that someone should use mind-clouding substances.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, not at all.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying that it's it's exhilarating, you know.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: It's like this again, I'm not saying do any of the heavy legal things, just crack open a cold one and you can have a conversation, maybe a couple highballs.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, again, good legal drugs are fine, that's why they're legal.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: That's logical.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: That's that's just uh you know, he he he makes a case.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: And frankly, you don't need the government to tell you what's good and what's not good.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Okay, you should be able to be a person of your own thought and be able to figure out what you need or don't need.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: However, we can lay down guidelines, and I feel like that is very much a thing that we need to do in life.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: And if there is a central location where those guidelines will come from, oh, I don't know, perhaps a unicameral or a Senate, you know, why not look there first?
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: Well, now now Ted, that raises an interesting question because if if someone is going to know for themselves what's good for them, what about and but then you've got maybe what if they choose something that the entity, the governmental entity, has said is illegal.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: See, I'm not really with choice.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm I would I would definitely say that I am not pro choice.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Ah, not pro choice, not pro choice.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Well, not necessarily pro like city, just not pro choice.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: It's not pro choice.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Not pro choice in in like anything, right?
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: It nothing.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: I do not like to make choices.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: There's we're not there's not just one issue.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: You're there's not pro-choice for anybody making a choice.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: Yes, okay.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: I can okay.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Well, I agree.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Do you trust the person that's making choices for you?
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: Or would you like to trust the person that's listened to you and let you make your own choices?
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: You know, between uh Steve's question and Ted's, I feel like I should just sit back and listen because you guys are way over my head.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's exciting.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: It I don't understand uh much of what you say, but um clearly, Ted, you're you're a smart guy, and Steve.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, Ted's lucky you're not running against him.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Because well, yeah, you really have it, you know.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: You've really got something to do.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: We we all can't be educated in uh Nebraska, so some of us have to be in Illinois.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, some people had to go to those Illinois schools, yes, but but but I digress, but but but Jeff, you know, we uh we've got a whole lot more to talk about with with Ted here, a whole lot more questions.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: But uh Jeff, I gotta tell you, we have a brand new sponsor.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's it's a startup, it's a new company.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: And you know how usually we do these these fully produced, very professionally produced commercials?
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Always.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: Well, uh, you know, these guys uh they were a startup and they didn't really have enough money for the production, but they did have enough to run the commercial.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: So I said, you know, we'll just we'll just talk the commercial, you know, like they used to do on early television, you know, Steve Allen and stuff would just like do the commercial as part of the show, you know.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: I so we're just kind of going back to early TV.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: This is this is kind of fun.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: So well, and Steve, Steve, this is this is your your baby.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, you you do most of the commercial, so uh, you know, I've been practicing and I think I I think I'm pretty good at this.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: So I'm excited to uh do this with you.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, I think and and Jeff, it's so natural.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: It's just we'll we'll just have a little conversation here, Jeff.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, no problem.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: And and you know, I I think this company is really doing something about an important issue.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: And we're talking about important issues here with with Ted, and they're doing something about a really important issue.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: You know, is Jeff, you know, everywhere you go today, people are talking about inflation.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: All kinds of people who, you know, a year ago didn't know a supply from a demand.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: Uh, they're suddenly economists, right?
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: Well, this this business, our sponsor, has decided to actually do something about it.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: So new in Omaha's trendy nodo district is a store that can help you fight inflation.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: It's called the$99 store.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: It's just like the low-price stores you're familiar with, but it's adjusted for inflation.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: So what do they sell?
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: Well, Jeff, that is such a great question.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: In a word, anything.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: They will sell anything at all.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: And you know before you go that each item is competitively priced at$99.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: So do they have do they sell energy drinks?
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: Yes,$99.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: And and how about Halloween candy?
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: Sure thing,$99.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: What about televisions?
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: Come on, no.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: But if someone wants paper plates, paper plates,$99.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Soup mix,$99.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: Sweat socks,$99.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: Wow, that sounds great.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: So, folks, be sure and visit Nodo's latest eye opener, the$99 store, where you can let the air out of inflation.
- 16:19SPEAKER_02: Ah, Jeff, that was that was fun.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: That was just a trip back down memory lane, and I felt like Dave Garraway or somebody.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: I, you know, I know way too much about early television, don't I?
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Yes, and I don't want to brag, but I think I nailed it.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: You did it, yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it felt good.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: It felt good, you know, came from a good place.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: I think you know, I think we're gonna do more of those because that just that was that was fun, that was normal, that was natural, that was and I hope I didn't throw you off because the sweets, the sweat socks, that was my ad lib.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you realized it.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: I threw that in.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, I originally had sweet socks, sweet shots, I think it was.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sweet shots, but uh you know, uh yeah, that was mine, and I you know, I it was it was cool.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: And they do, they have beautiful sweat socks for$99.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: And I tell you, they will last, you know, two, three months, maybe.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: I mean, they are really good.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: They are really, really good.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: But I digress.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: But anyway, back to uh back to the important political issues of the day with with our guest Ted McConnell, who is running for the unicameral in in my district, my little district in Omaha here.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: So uh Ted, some of the what what do you see as some of the more important issues facing Nebraskans these days?
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, I mean, obviously, one of the things that are happening right now is kind of what we're really making sure we have is a known place.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, we want to be a safe space for many, many uh people, uh many types of people, however you decide to come to Nebraska.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: We would like this to be a place where you can stay.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's good.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: That's nice.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 18:00SPEAKER_02: I like that, Ted.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: Would that would that in include like Mexicans and Canadians?
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, sure.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: We we will absolutely take immigrants and migrants, and there's a place for anybody uh of either border, really, of the northern and the southern border, as long as they're you know fit and healthy.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Well, I know I know that you're not that Nebraska doesn't border either of those countries or whatever, but no, but I don't know if you've been following what's been going on in uh Florida and Texas, which do border uh actually I guess Florida doesn't, but Texas does, Texas does, but Texas does, and I just have a general question.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: How do you feel about the idea of taking people from Mexico who are in this country and rounding them up and and sending them to other states?
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: I'm upset that I didn't uh think about doing it sooner.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: Ah, I think so you would you would support taking people and just shipping them off to I mean, absolutely.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: I think it's a great idea.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: You take them to a place where maybe your uh Mexico, we all know, doesn't have the best history of health and services, and it would be great to just you know catch people on the Texas border, which also let us not mix words here.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: Uh maybe this is an old Nebraska football grudge, but I don't think Texas is the greatest place for those folks.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: So that taking them and moving them up to a location like oh, I could pick a random place, but let's say Boston.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Uh well, maybe not Boston, uh Martha's Vineyard, the same state, different city.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: Boston might not be the greatest for them either.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: But basically, they would be able to get healthy, have jobs, find a living place.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's the other thing a lot of people forget about this whole Florida governor thing is frankly, they're better off where they are.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: And the people of Martha's Vineyard did it in what 40 hours, tops?
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, do they have more room up there?
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Can we put a fun together?
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Why not we do that with the homeless?
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: We take them, we put them in a location where they'll do fine, they'll find a place to live, they'll have jobs helping people get on their feet and be able to move on.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: Uh that's the thing.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Everyone's like, Oh, you tricked them, you should do this, didn't this.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: I think it was probably the best thing for them to find those people and get them out of Texas, out of Mexico, and put them in a fine place like Martha's Vineyard.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: And I would absolutely, absolutely have done that if I were in his shoes.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Now, what's interesting is I'm a sports fan, and I think the quarterback for Nebraska last year, his last name was Martinez, and I think he was his second.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: And where and where did he go afterwards?
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: He went to Kansas.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: He went to Kansas.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: That's what you're talking about, right?
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: You're talking about going somewhere where you are tree one, and he won, and he and he beat a team that we couldn't beat this year, so he got better going to Kansas.
- 21:10unknown: Wow.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: Would you would you use that strategy for other issues like uh well, you mentioned the homeless, yeah.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: I'd move the homeless.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think it's also a particular part, especially another hot button issue we're having right now, is uh there are some certain states where there are certain procedures that they aren't necessarily able to provide in that state for whatever reason, because the state has chosen not to do it, and I fully support that uh as far as states' rights.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: I fully support a state's rights to choose whether or not those procedures are done.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: And I think I honestly think it would be a great idea to pick them up and move all of them to another state, and again, it would be fine, it would be safe, it would be absolutely a thing that would.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Would be possible, you know, and and of course it also keeps the medical industry alive in those maybe certain states that aren't necessarily doing a lot.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, how many doctors can really be in the state of Montana?
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: So I would say just scoop up a bunch of folks and of a particular gender and status of life and have them go on a bus tour and have them go to Montana.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: I think it's fantastic.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: I think I know what he's talking about, Jeff.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: I think I do.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: What's he talking about, Steve?
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: I think he's talking about the gender and status in life.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: No, no, I uh no, I'm not talking about the okay, fine.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: I would absolutely completely support taking women that are pregnant and bussing them to a different state for abortions.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: I think that is a fantastically state-run program that we absolutely should do.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: Well, on the surface, it it's a lot to think about because I've never really gone there.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Um, I think one of the things that you're kind of saying before was that you're for the state's right to choose, but not individuals.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: No, not individuals.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, think about it this way.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: This is how I explain it to my friends.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: If it when you were a kid and you had a cereal box, uh, pick a cereal, any cereal, it really doesn't matter right now.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: Fruit loops.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: I used to love fruit loops, man.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: Fantastic loops and mac and cheese, man.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: That was my life.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: Stuff was great.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm amazed you're still walking.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: I barely it's a situation where you you have your box of Fruit Loops, and I told you that there was a prize inside the Fruit Loops.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: How would you get to those?
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: You would either, you know, empty the bag out, yeah, like pouring it, going through the top spot where it's supposed to go, and then you would absolutely get the prize, or you would wait until you would eat it, and then you would get there.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: The one thing you wouldn't do is turn the box to its side, stab it open with a knife, spread it open, stick a vacuum inside, suck up all of the extra cereal until a toy jammed into it, and now you have it, right?
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: Actually, no, I never thought of that.
- 24:07SPEAKER_02: I used to just stick my hand down there and crush the cereal and grab it, you know.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: You know, and too.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: At least, at least the box you had was designed for that purpose.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: Well, the box was fine.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: Cereal didn't look so good, but the box was cereal was horrible, I'm sure.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: But but you got the toy.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: As opposed to now you've got a horribly damaged box with a knife wound in it, and you at most have a clogged-up vacuum and a toy that you get a little bit of joy out of.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Well, and speaking of uh knife people or stabbing them, that is the proper verb.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: I remember Mayfield Johnson took a pretty strong position, Steve.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: I think on violence.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: I think I don't remember for sure.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: I think it was in favor of it.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Do you remember, Steve?
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: Which you know, position or he just wants you to be a high criminal.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm hearing right now.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: I like I don't understand why this election is even happening.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: Well, it's you know, it's it's in kind of like the laws of the state.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: They say that every two years they have this thing, and we all go say I'm aware, I'm aware of the procedure.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: I just don't understand why this is a choice to be made.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: A man you trust or voting with your by Johnson, I think is what you said.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: They vote with I think it was vote with your Johnson.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was that vote with your Johnson.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Or a man you can trust, uh, a violent person that just wants to get you high, or someone that will take you to a better place.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't think there's a choice when you put it that way.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, and he and he's not even in Nebraska.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, he's not in Nebraska, not where no, no, Jeff, you're not oh Jeff's not.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm not other than Mayfield, Mayfield Johnson's not even in Nebraska.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: So so we'll not I will not besmirch a candidate with false information.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so one more thing uh that Mayfield Johnson said, which I I'm loving that you're so candid with us.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: He was interested in opening up neighboring districts.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: I think that Mayfield may have been from a different district originally, that he's got some relatives who live there.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, and remember Steve, and he wanted to like open the the border or yeah, you know, where that is.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he wanted to wanted to have some spillover because you know, uh Jeff, it's like it alma has like Chicago, you know, you you cross the street, you're in a different Senate district, you know.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: It's just that's you know so he was he was looking for more of a community inclusive, yes, yeah, or more of a more of a metro sort of thing.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: Well, again, I I'm okay with expanding the borders, but once we've expanded them, I do feel like we need to tighten that up then.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: I mean, because there's there's only so far you can go.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, do you want council bluffs in Omaha?
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: Personally, no.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't either.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: No, I don't even know what council bluffs is.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Is that uh is that a city?
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's over, it's on the on the Iowa side, yeah.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: In the broadest sense of a term, it's city.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's a place, yeah.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: Yes, but again, I don't mind you know reaching out and basically turning all of Nebraska into a giant metropolis.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I would much rather have that than the way the media currently is seeing us, which is just a cornfield.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Uh every time you see Nebraska or a cornfield, I'm like, I live in Omaha, I see no cornfields.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: I I see a lot of concrete, I see you know steel and glass and houses.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: We have zoos.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I see the zoo.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: I'd rather go by the zoo periodically.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're more than just a cornfield now.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: I know it might be a cornfield.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: And I I think that you have had to deal with that stigma for a long time.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: And I, you know, I come from Illinois, you're you guys are in Nebraska.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: What what is um the University of Nebraska?
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: What's their nickname?
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: The Cornhuskers.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: They was that given to them from someone else?
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: Probably.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: Well, we used to be the bug eaters.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Um but then we became the yeah, yeah, then we became the Cornhuskers.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: Change makes sense, yeah.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: But I you know, you know, I I'm beginning to see where the public gets that image of Nebraska.
- 28:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm thinking we might have had a role in that's kind of like kind of like those choices you were talking about earlier.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: We made a choice and now we're kind of stuck with the now we're stuck with the choice.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: So again, I I do want the people of Nebraska in the district that I want them to make only one choice, and I want it to be the absolute choice of a man you can trust.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: Ah, who then will do everything for us, who will then do everything for you, and who and who is that man?
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: That is me.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: That is Ted McConnell.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: Ted McConnell, yeah.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: Ted Mickey C.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: Well, you've completely turned me around.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: I I'm not sure I was ever facing the other way, anyway, because I I you know uh Mayfield Johnson.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Yes, I like some of the things that Mayfield said, I like the image that he projects of cool.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: You know, but of course but Ted, you're very accomplished and serious candidate.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: I I'm leaning towards you at this point.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: What about you, Steve?
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: You know, it's gonna be a tough decision.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: I you know, Mayfield seemed like such a nice guy, but and I'd love that phrase, that that slogan, vote with your Johnson.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: But but on the other hand, you know, I can tell that Ted really has given this a lot of thought, maybe a little more thought, maybe, than Mayfield has given it.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: I I don't know.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: It's and you know, and maybe maybe it's time to pull out your Johnson.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: That's that's all I'm going to say about that.
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: Ooh, yeah.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: Well, that's so you're asking Johnson to pull out to take out and pull out the Johnson.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: That could be a great slogan for you.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: You could run a whole negative campaign like pull out your Johnson.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: I don't like the mud.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, I don't like smearing mud, especially with people like Johnson.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: Ah, I don't like mud on yeah.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, nobody likes mud on Johnson.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: Never know where never know where that mud came from.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a problem.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: We we've definitely uh brand groups and focused with a man you can trust.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: So yes, well wow, this is great.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: And you know that that election is coming up, so we're gonna get kicked out of the studio here.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: I mean, this eccentric Lady Land studios, they're pretty friendly, but they do have time limits.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: If you buy a half hour, they give you a half hour.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: I respect and then you're done.
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna be out of here pretty quick.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: But uh listen, Ted, thanks very much for coming in.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: And uh, with that election coming up, good luck to you.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: Good luck to you in the election.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, good good luck, Ted.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: I like I said, I can't vote, but I'll move.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: I could move.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: I could move.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, although I do you have any people do you have any people that live in my district?
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: No, but Mayfield said that.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: Any people that lived in my district, you know, Jeff, I live in his district.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: You could say you lived at my house and you could vote for him.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, if there's a tiebreaker here, to be honest with you, Ted or Mr.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: McConnell, it's that Mayfield said that he would actually take the suburb I live in in Illinois and include it in his district so that I would be able to vote.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: I like that idea.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: So then, so then Nebraska would be like an empire.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: We'd have like this little island in Illinois.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: We would have taken Iowa by then.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: That's kind of cool.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: We oh, we'd fly over Iowa.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: No, we leave Iowa.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: We'd have to be the bridge.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, makes sense.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: Would flood Iowa would be the big lake, which I would flood that I would support that decision.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, okay, maybe I'm leaning a little more toward Ted now, you know.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: Maybe we we found some consensus where there wasn't before.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: Now it looks like we've got some common ground.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: Not well, when I say common ground, I mean two districts in different states because the common two districts and a bridge, yeah, and some agreement that that we just create a big lake in between.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: Turn turn I wind a water world.
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: I'm all for it.
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: That drought problem would be over if we hit the big lake over there, wouldn't it?
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: That sure would be over fast, wasn't it?
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it got my head hurts, all this smart thinking.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: It'd be an infrastructural nightmare, but I'm sure we could probably pull it off.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Uh, thank you both gentlemen for answering my uh many, many emails requesting uh time on this podcast.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: It's nice to see it was not wasted.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: Well, it it certainly wasn't because millions listen to this, and you will now have a national profile.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: Here's hoping.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: Hey, listen, thanks again, and uh Jeff, I will see you uh next time with another exciting guest.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: All right, and thank you, Mr.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: McConnell.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: Never thought I'd be able to say that on our show.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: That's really good.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a words you never thought they'd come out of your body.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: But thank you so much for being on.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: I'll talk to you later, Steve.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Bye.
