- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with Dan tomorrow night.
- 0:01Speaker 2: The men back can actually take on East Texas A
- 0:04Speaker 2: and m at Gamble. Mike is actually back tomorrow night
- 0:06Speaker 2: with Wayne six point thirty on the Yukon Sports Network,
- 0:09Speaker 2: the Varsity Network App, and the Varsity Network dot Com.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Sandierra had ten point six assists in the win on
- 0:17Speaker 2: Wednesday against Lamoinnes and, as I mentioned the pregame show
- 0:20Speaker 2: that night too, some of the defensive work that he
- 0:23Speaker 2: did against New Hampshire to help kind of get things
- 0:25Speaker 2: going offensively for your team in the second half. It
- 0:28Speaker 2: just seems right now he seems to be that good
- 0:30Speaker 2: fit coming off the bench for your team. Now that
- 0:32Speaker 2: doesn't mean he's going to be on the bench as
- 0:34Speaker 2: a non starter for the rest of the year, but
- 0:36Speaker 2: right now he's in a good spot.
- 0:37Speaker 1: It seems.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean he's in the spot that we need
- 0:40Speaker 3: him to be in. And you know, he's a program
- 0:43Speaker 3: guy and a Yukon guy, and you know, he's just
- 0:47Speaker 3: he's where we need him to be right now. It's
- 0:50Speaker 3: it's incredibly comforting to have him there as we get off,
- 0:56Speaker 3: as we've gotten off to these slow starts, just to
- 1:02Speaker 3: have a player with his experience and you know, with
- 1:05Speaker 3: his mentality and and the way he can impact the
- 1:07Speaker 3: game with his defense and uh, you know's ability to
- 1:11Speaker 3: get you know, you get stops, push the ball, get
- 1:13Speaker 3: some early offense going, and just changed the tempo and
- 1:17Speaker 3: the pace and the energy. Uh when when he when
- 1:19Speaker 3: when he enters the court, you know, starter, I mean,
- 1:24Speaker 3: Listen has is going to be in there in crunch
- 1:26Speaker 3: time moments. He's going to play down the stretch of
- 1:28Speaker 3: these games. I'm not sure where that's going relative to
- 1:32Speaker 3: how we start games in the future. I think it's
- 1:35Speaker 3: it's something that we're we're working our way through what
- 1:38Speaker 3: makes the most sense for this team. But I know
- 1:41Speaker 3: he's going to be uh, you know, his minutes are
- 1:44Speaker 3: going to go up, his production is going to go up,
- 1:46Speaker 3: and I know he's gonna be out there when it matters.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Right, And Williams in a tough spot.
- 1:51Speaker 2: He's still learning the system. Not the biggest guard either,
- 1:55Speaker 2: I mean he's kind of he and Hassardo roughly the
- 1:57Speaker 2: same height. So that doesn't make anything any any easier
- 2:00Speaker 2: for you finding a new guy trying to adapt to
- 2:02Speaker 2: a system. Much like in some ways what Tristan Newton
- 2:06Speaker 2: did when he first stepped on campus.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Yeah, it wasn't smooth and uh with t new and
- 2:12Speaker 3: and uh, you know we buttoned heads quite a bit
- 2:15Speaker 3: that first year in particular, even into year two. Uh,
- 2:20Speaker 3: and yeah, it's uh, you know, it's a demanding place
- 2:25Speaker 3: where you know, we we have a I'm a demanding coach.
- 2:28Speaker 3: There's a way that that we want to play at
- 2:31Speaker 3: both ends of the court that that that I think
- 2:35Speaker 3: is stressful for players because we've got really high standards
- 2:38Speaker 3: of how we want to do things in terms of
- 2:41Speaker 3: our execution, in terms of how hard we play, and
- 2:44Speaker 3: in terms of being in all the right spots making
- 2:46Speaker 3: all the right decisions. So yeah, it's it's an intense
- 2:51Speaker 3: level of basketball when you put the Yukon uniform on,
- 2:54Speaker 3: no matter where you played before, you come play basketball
- 2:57Speaker 3: at the basketball capital of the world. So and we're
- 3:01Speaker 3: asking him to play, uh, in a manner that he's
- 3:04Speaker 3: not accustomed to. We're asking for for Aiden to play
- 3:08Speaker 3: on the ball and and to be a decision maker
- 3:11Speaker 3: and a facilitator and more of a lead guard. Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 3: We obviously it's not something that is in our best
- 3:18Speaker 3: interest to have him and Hassan on the court a
- 3:21Speaker 3: lot together. Uh, it's just it's too small of of
- 3:25Speaker 3: of a guard tandem. So you know, Aiden's just got
- 3:28Speaker 3: to uh, you know, just keep keep grinding and and
- 3:30Speaker 3: uh and staying locked in.
- 3:32Speaker 2: You know, watching your press conference from the other night
- 3:35Speaker 2: and you mentioned this too, the lack of size that
- 3:38Speaker 2: you have at the guard position in some ways has
- 3:40Speaker 2: helped has hurt Samson.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Johnson in the lob.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Game killed him. Yeah, it's it's hurt him a lot.
- 3:46Speaker 3: It's it's uh, yes, Samson, I think right now second
- 3:50Speaker 3: in the country and blocks per minute. I mean, he's
- 3:52Speaker 3: been awesome protecting the rim. When he's been able to
- 3:56Speaker 3: stay on the court. Hopefully he took a step forward
- 3:59Speaker 3: not fouling. But we've missed him. I mean we we've
- 4:02Speaker 3: missed him. We've missed him pro probably six six to
- 4:07Speaker 3: eight points on possessions per game here where normally Cam
- 4:13Speaker 3: would be throwing him a lob t U would be
- 4:16Speaker 3: throwing him a lob steph Castle, Andre Jackson. You know,
- 4:21Speaker 3: these bigger guards would be throwing the ball up to
- 4:23Speaker 3: him for highlight, highlight, real lob dunks, and we're just
- 4:27Speaker 3: not there yet. Part of it is size. Part of
- 4:31Speaker 3: it is where do you have your eyes and and
- 4:35Speaker 3: what reads are you're making. So but you know, Samson
- 4:38Speaker 3: is is uh, you know, Samson's underrated, great screener for
- 4:41Speaker 3: us too, with a lot of our off ball movement,
- 4:44Speaker 3: and we've got to get Taris there. Taris. Uh, you
- 4:47Speaker 3: know that there's a drop off in in how well
- 4:51Speaker 3: we screen when Samson goes out and Taris goes in.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Although Taris's you know, Tarris Is at times has been
- 4:58Speaker 3: a real strong presence finishing around the basket.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you mentioned he has a big upside, but still
- 5:04Speaker 2: a lot of fundamentals to work on.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Yes, yes, I mean that the spots on the court
- 5:10Speaker 3: that he needs to play in, uh, you know, the
- 5:13Speaker 3: way that he posts up, the way that he screens,
- 5:16Speaker 3: you know, violently hitting people on blockouts. He's such a
- 5:19Speaker 3: nice guy and he's such a sweetheart, and he's a
- 5:22Speaker 3: very talented big man. You know, but I think that
- 5:27Speaker 3: there's more there's more violence, there's more ferocity that he
- 5:30Speaker 3: could play with on the court and and you know,
- 5:33Speaker 3: whether it's screening, rolling, protecting the rim, you know, dominating
- 5:41Speaker 3: positionally at both ends that there's there's there's a lot
- 5:44Speaker 3: of improvement out there for for Taris.
- 5:48Speaker 2: How do you teach that the ferocity being such a
- 5:50Speaker 2: nice guy, how do you change that mentality?
- 5:53Speaker 3: Guilt shame, film, no phil men challenging people and showing
- 6:02Speaker 3: clips and you know, kind of pulling on that thread
- 6:07Speaker 3: of what motivates people and and you know and challenging,
- 6:12Speaker 3: you know, their their toughness and their warrior spirit and
- 6:18Speaker 3: questioning their will, the will of a man. You know,
- 6:20Speaker 3: you you question the will of a man enough, maybe
- 6:24Speaker 3: that'll get him to uh uh to not want to
- 6:27Speaker 3: hear that anymore from you. You know, sometimes you're just
- 6:31Speaker 3: pointing it out and saying, a taris man. You got
- 6:33Speaker 3: to do your job as a big guy. So uh,
- 6:37Speaker 3: you know, you try a lot of different things and
- 6:39Speaker 3: see what works.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Okay, speaking of big man, Donovan had himself a nice
- 6:43Speaker 2: game last week and I just saw a video maybe
- 6:46Speaker 2: in the last hour where as Jones, the former Husky
- 6:49Speaker 2: who played for Gino, delivered his championship rings.
- 6:51Speaker 1: He's also a pretty good start in Portland.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Yeah, d c is. Uh, you know, he's doing great,
- 6:57Speaker 3: and you know, I think it's a young team that
- 7:00Speaker 3: he could grow with and uh got his first start
- 7:03Speaker 3: and and uh he's certainly has been able to deliver
- 7:07Speaker 3: I think he's like you could already see that the
- 7:09Speaker 3: way that the defense translates to the NBA, and and
- 7:13Speaker 3: why we were so successful that way, and and uh
- 7:16Speaker 3: the organization loves him. Uh. I know that having that
- 7:20Speaker 3: human being in your organization on a daily basis is
- 7:24Speaker 3: uh makes you so much better. Uh. You know the
- 7:27Speaker 3: passion he plays with Uh, just a quality of human being,
- 7:31Speaker 3: and how he shows up for work every day. He's gonna,
- 7:34Speaker 3: I think, an awesome career.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yep, for sure, more with Dan on the U Comments
