- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning From the chicken coop.
- 0:31We are talking about outcome and effort today and this is a big,
- 0:37big pet peeve of mine because so many people want to have the
- 0:42outcome. So many people want to have the
- 0:44outcome, but they don't want to put the effort in.
- 0:47And often times when I'm talking to people who are business
- 0:50owners or working with clients who have to deal with other
- 0:53people, they're like, I don't know why I just can't get people
- 0:56to put the effort in. I just don't get it.
- 0:58And they all say they want the outcome.
- 1:00They all say they want the job. They say they they're willing to
- 1:03work. They all give the right answers,
- 1:05but they are not willing to actually put the amount of
- 1:09effort in that's necessary. And this is such a a a a subject
- 1:14that you must if you want greatness in yourself and you
- 1:18want greatness out of those around you.
- 1:19You have to make decisions about how you measure this and you
- 1:22have to make decisions about how you talk to people about this.
- 1:26So often times I will say, OK, tell me what you want to have
- 1:29happen. Tell me what your outcome is.
- 1:30What are you looking to make happen.
- 1:32And in the process of this you start to think about, OK, well,
- 1:35these are the people will give you their goals.
- 1:37They give you any of the stuff that they're working on and what
- 1:39they have going on. And then there's this part of
- 1:42you that has to, you have to sequentially start to break it
- 1:47down for them to see, well, what are they willing to do to get to
- 1:52that place? What are they willing to do to
- 1:54get to that place? And when you start brainstorming
- 1:56with someone and you start laying it out and you say, OK,
- 1:58well it's going to take this and it's going to take this and it's
- 2:00going to take this, you have to measure for yourself and with
- 2:05that person. If you're doing it with someone
- 2:06else to say, OK, this is going to take like X amount of effort,
- 2:11Are you willing to put that effort in and measure it with
- 2:15them? And you will often be able to
- 2:17see right in their face the level that they're committed to.
- 2:22When you do this for yourself, it is so important to know that
- 2:26you must measure yourself and you must say, am I willing to do
- 2:32this work? So if we use the farm as the
- 2:34metaphor when we started, this farm work is not easy.
- 2:39I think everyone knows that, and I think everyone can understand
- 2:42that. When you talk about farm work,
- 2:44people think it's hard work. Yeah, it's really hard work.
- 2:46There's no question about the fact that farm work is hard
- 2:49work. So people tend to think, well,
- 2:52you know, you're crazy, Why would you want to do farm work?
- 2:55Well, one, it keeps you young. As far as I'm convinced it keeps
- 2:58you very young in the process of doing it and it fills my heart.
- 3:02So I'm willing to pour that effort in and I'm willing to
- 3:05say, OK, I'm committed 100% to doing this and what is 100% look
- 3:11like? So you can't just get the
- 3:13percentage, but you've got to understand within yourself with
- 3:17those you work in, What do you think 100% looks like?
- 3:21And write it on a piece of paper.
- 3:23So you can keep contrasting and comparing to what your actual
- 3:26output is, to what you thought it would be and what it needs to
- 3:30be. It's a constant and never ending
- 3:33dialed in process so that you can figure it out.
- 3:36But if you don't know that and you don't measure that, you will
- 3:40never be able to attain that. It is without question a
- 3:44necessary marker. And so often it's a marker
- 3:47that's missed. You're interviewing somebody,
- 3:50you're bringing them on to be an assistant, working with you.
- 3:53And you say, OK, well, you know, here's what it's going to take.
- 3:56You know, are you willing to give me an idea of what amount
- 3:59of effort you're willing to put in?
- 4:01Nearly everybody's going to say 100% and say, OK, great, well,
- 4:03let me tell you what 100% looks like in my world.
- 4:06So you give them your version of it and you say, OK, does that
- 4:09match what you're thinking? And you can tell by the look on
- 4:12their face if they're stunned. And even even with yourself
- 4:15sometimes when you go, OK, well, this is what I think.
- 4:18And then you go off and you try to find somebody else who's done
- 4:21what you're thinking of doing, or you're looking for a mentor
- 4:24or you're working with your coach or whatever.
- 4:26And they say, well, I I think it's going to be more like this.
- 4:29Now all of a sudden you've compare and contrast again and
- 4:33say, OK, am I willing to do this?
- 4:35And if you're not willing to do the 100%, what are you willing
- 4:39to do? What?
- 4:40What is that measurement going to be like?
- 4:42If you say, well, I'm willing to pour 75% into this, OK, so this
- 4:46is what 75% of the outcome would look like.
- 4:50And once you start looking at the outcome and you say, well,
- 4:53is it worth me getting 75% of it?
- 4:57And then you have to pause and say, I don't know, do I want a
- 4:5975% outcome? Is it worth it?
- 5:01Now, for some people, it is worth it.
- 5:04I mean, most corporations settle for getting 70 to 80% out of
- 5:08their people. They don't even care that
- 5:10they're not getting 100% because they don't even expect it
- 5:12anymore. How pathetic is that?
- 5:14They don't even expect it anymore.
- 5:16They're that's why they grind everybody so hard, because they
- 5:19know they're not getting 100%. So they're just going to grind
- 5:21you to death to try to get any percentage they can.
- 5:25And it's wrong. It's a wrong strategy to have
- 5:28and if they did this in the beginning, it would save a lot
- 5:30of time. But in any event, contrast what
- 5:35you have in your head to what is in actuality.
- 5:38Keep checking in with yourself and really know am I willing to
- 5:41put the effort in. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:44you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:46Bye.
