- 2:51Dave. How you doing I'm doing fine. We invite Chris sin about
- 2:53once a month just to kind of update this on some things that are going
- 2:55on with the Minnie Kendam Shrine. Always something going on with you. We
- 3:00are busy, busy, especially the next two months day. We've got so
- 3:02much stuff going on, a lot of fun things, a lot of great
- 3:05activities. I mean, we're gonna start off this weekend with a really big
- 3:09thing. It's our ninth annual poker run that our Logan Shrine Club puts on.
- 3:15It's a wonderful thing. All the proceeds benefit the Shrine Club. They're
- 3:20gonna be starting out at Guest registration will start at eight am, uh and
- 3:24back. No, no, where does the registration wars it happening. That's
- 3:29happening down at Logan UM on twenty twenty two Main Avenue in Logan. I'm
- 3:34sure that that's where the Shrine Club. That's the headquarters, and that's the
- 3:38head Yes, sir, that's the headquarters for the Actually, I don't know
- 3:43if I mentioned this on the show or not. My class reunion ten year,
- 3:47twenty twenty five, year, thirty whatever ish reunion is being held at
- 3:53the Shrine Club in Logan later the summer. Awesome. So that's that's where
- 3:58it is. It's right there. It's next to McDonald's on the main drag.
- 4:00What we call it the triangle and Logan, So that triangle that's where
- 4:02it is. But go ahead. But yeah, it's twenty dollars a person.
- 4:05There's gonna be a lot of activities. They're gonna be giving away best
- 4:10hand, worst hand, fifty fifty drawings, door prizes, all kinds of
- 4:13raffle things. It's gonna be a great event, So try to get out
- 4:15there again. Registration starts at eight am and then everybody come back to the
- 4:20Shrine Club. Byfore they'll be drawing, giveaways, be having a great time
- 4:26and that's always a great event. Again, that's that ninth annual poker run
- 4:30that our hardness working Trine Club definitely is logan and they're certainly gonna have a
- 4:36great time there this weekend. Also, any time yere with Benny Epplin,
- 4:41it's a good time, absolutely, he's a lot of fun. Well,
- 4:46you know, for the last couple months we've been selling our onions, which
- 4:49is one of our major fundraisers. They're coming in on May sixth, So
- 4:54on the sixth and then the next few days we'll be getting those onions out
- 4:58to everybody that purchased them. Did very well this year on the onions.
- 5:00I think we sold almost a thousand more bags this year than we did last
- 5:05year, which is yes, it is. And you were selling those primarily
- 5:09at your facility and Charleston, is that right or yeah? And then all
- 5:13of our members all the orders out, they take orders, pre orders and
- 5:16sell them. So they're coming in this weekend and then May twelfth and thirteenth,
- 5:23two day event here at one hundred Corrier Street. Our potentate this year
- 5:29is having a nobility or a barbecue on the parking lot. They're gonna be
- 5:32doing playing cornhole, they're gonna have the clowns are gonna be there. It's
- 5:35open to the public. And that's one of the things I like that you
- 5:40folks do, and I have you in about once a month, you know,
- 5:42to talk about the different things. Is that even if you're not a
- 5:44quote unquote member or part of the Shrine, you do so many things that
- 5:47are open to the public like this. So you don't have to be a
- 5:49member of the Shrine to come to this thing, right, No, you
- 5:51do not. And all of our events, all of our events, we
- 5:56advertise are open to the public. That's how we get the message out and
- 6:00we're able to raise the money to keep things rocking and rolling down there one
- 6:02hundred Corrier Street and to give money back to the hospitals, because that's ultimately
- 6:06what we do. And so we have that picnic on Saturday at one hundred
- 6:13Corrier Street. That's the twelfth, I'm sorry, that's Friday. Then Saturday
- 6:17the twelfth is actually the Potentate's Ball, and this year it's gonna be a
- 6:21lot of fun. It's a lou out theme, so you don't have to
- 6:25dress up for this coming your appropriate beach ware. You hear that Hollywood that
- 6:30stamed to you appropriate beachware. Okay, go ahead. So that kind of
- 6:34rounds out our big events for May, and then you know, as soon
- 6:38as May's winding up, we jump right into and this is a first thing,
- 6:42first time we've ever done this, where we are hosting a female self
- 6:47defense course and that's going to be on June the tenth. It's from ten
- 6:55unto one right at the Temple Downtown. Fifty dollars per person. It's a
- 7:00UH self hand self defense class um that uses keys for ladies UH to teach
- 7:08them to to defend themselves, be aware looking different situations and and and give
- 7:13them some skills to keep themselves safe using keys as a weapon. Absolutely.
- 7:16Yeah, So we have some really highly trained instructors looking forward to that.
- 7:21That's gonna be that's gonna be a lot of that's absolutely cost for that.
- 7:28Yes, that's fifty dollars dollars person. I've got two girls, uh,
- 7:31younger girls. They will be attending. I mean to make sure that they've
- 7:35been volunteld Absolutely, so that's gonna be something fun. I think that we
- 7:41will continue to do that and build on those courses. Um. I think
- 7:44it's a wonderful thing. And it's something that um Mickey Martin, our potentate,
- 7:47wanted to do this year and thought it would be a great thing.
- 7:51Uh. Fish fry Friday, Um, June sixteenth, at four o'clock.
- 7:57It starts. That's Friday, obviously, and we're gonna be doing a fish
- 8:01fry that's gonna benefit the clowns and um the Assassa, which is a South
- 8:07Atlantic Shrine association. Um, we're putting that together and it's gonna be fun.
- 8:13So that's that's the first time we've done a fish fry in a long
- 8:16time, and we want everybody that can hear us right now to come by.
- 8:20It's going to be fifteen dollars a plate. You're gonna get fries and
- 8:24and hush puppies and coleslaw and and French fries. The whole nine yards is
- 8:28going to be a great You have there, do you have to do?
- 8:31You have to have to have Tabasco sauce. We will have Tabasco just for
- 8:35you, just for you. But yeah, we're doing a lot of great
- 8:37things right now. In the hospitals are doing well. There's a lot of
- 8:41a lot of momentum. I guess you've seen where Shriner's Uh ambassador Alec was
- 8:48on the red carpet at the NFL draft, So that was a big thing
- 8:52for us, and we're very excited about that. And you know, things
- 8:54are you know, we're coming into the summer months where we can get outside
- 8:58and do a lot of different things. And unless you live in northern West
- 9:01Virginia where they have snow, see that. This morning, I was like,
- 9:03Holy Molly, that's crazy. Chris has got some pictures posted that I
- 9:07shared him on Day All on radio and Facebook of I think it was Tucker
- 9:09County this morning. I've seen that. I was like, yeah, yeah,
- 9:13welcome to me. But that's that's kind of a freak thing. And
- 9:16it's even up there. It's going to go away and uh, and we're
- 9:18looking forward to a summer full of activities, actually getting outdoors a little bit
- 9:22here absolutely, you know. And with that, uh, you know,
- 9:24we have weddings at springtime, we've got problems, we've got birthdays and all
- 9:31different types of activities. And one hundred Corrier Street our shrine temple. We
- 9:35rent that out and we do a really good job. We've made some great
- 9:39improvements. Um inside, UM you can come in take a look at the
- 9:46place, rent it. You can call h three zero four three four three
- 9:50nine four zero five, or you can also look at look at us on
- 9:54the internet at Benny KEATAM w V N I K E D E M correct
- 10:01yeah WV dot us and you can come down take a look at what we're
- 10:07doing and rent the space. And that's one of the things that I try
- 10:11to hit on every month. Chris and getting Chris withrow from the being a
- 10:13Kingdom shrine shrine, I don't know, always put an m and their shrine
- 10:16is with us and that particular building. I've been in it, you know,
- 10:20several times, different events that have been held there. It's a fantastic
- 10:24facility. So if you are planning a wedding I mentioned class reunion, uh,
- 10:28you know some any kind of an activity like that. This would be
- 10:33senior parties. I mean a lot of people, a lot of parents will
- 10:35throw like a graduation party for their kids or their kids and their friends or
- 10:39whatever. That's a fantastic facility. Tell us what's in the facility for the
- 10:43people? I mean, I know it's you've got space and chairs, but
- 10:46what else is in it? Well, I mean we have a grand ballroom
- 10:48and it's it's decorated very nice. We do a great job. We have
- 10:52different meeting rooms anything from ten to twelve people all the way up to four
- 10:56hundred. Of course, we do have the best parking Charleston. Yes,
- 11:01you beat that. It doesn't matter the size, plenty of parking. Um
- 11:05you know, we have um a place to set up. We have two
- 11:09kitchens, fully furnished kitchens, one obviously as a cooking and then a serving
- 11:13kitchen upstairs. Anything that you would need, anything that you could possibly need
- 11:18to do an event of any size. We have it and we have the
- 11:22staff to to help you and help you get through it. But it's a
- 11:26maximum capacity. Well I think legally it's three ninety nine, so we just
- 11:31say four hundred round up. Well, but to sneak one more person in,
- 11:35I don't think it'll be a big Maybe maybe he's a short guy,
- 11:37so we'll just put him in there. But but okay, I mean,
- 11:41so you can hold up to four hundred people, yes, so I mean
- 11:43and again that's a good size for a wedding, for you know, some
- 11:46sort of a birthday, part, anniversary, you know, all these different
- 11:50things. We've got an all class reunion coming in I think from DuPont Um
- 11:54the summer um, so there'll be hunt you know, several hundred people in
- 11:58for that. And again we do every you know, we have the ability
- 12:01to do classroom setting. So if you you're doing training, continue education,
- 12:07any type of situation that you would have a need to have a facility,
- 12:11we can we can accommodate and you can just reach out to you on that
- 12:15website or a phone call or whatever to call. Yeah, you can go
- 12:16to B E N I K E D E M WUV dot us, or
- 12:22you can call the temple at three zero four three four three nine four zero
- 12:28five and there's almost always somebody there nine to five. There's someone there every
- 12:31Monday and again folks, and we do want to let people know you do
- 12:33not have to be a member of that's trying to use is anybody can use.
- 12:37Anybody can use it. And it's such a great facility for things like
- 12:39that, you know, just thinking of all the different things that happened during
- 12:41the summer months, as I said, weddings, anniversary parties, you know,
- 12:46graduation parties, you can do all those absolutely and plenty of free parking
- 12:48too, plenty, yes, And we absolutely enjoy We like to work with
- 12:52the community. We like to have everybody out and so we are. We're
- 12:56going to be doing a lot of things this year. Things are ramping up
- 12:58and we're getting ext it for spring and in summer and we're gonna have a
- 13:01great time. A text here for you. Somebody has a question, all
- 13:03right, what exactly is a potentate From the text line, somebody wanted to
- 13:07know that. Well, the potentate, I guess in some organizations you would
- 13:11have a board of directors. Well, we call it a divan or divan,
- 13:16and then I guess the head or the chairman of that board, chairman,
- 13:22presidency, its potentate. Okay, So basically, every year we have
- 13:26a new guide that is set you know, gets in line and each year
- 13:28it transfers down to the next person in line, and that year they get
- 13:33to to kind of station like any other organization, they just steer it and
- 13:37and they get to kind of put their thumbprint on how we raise money and
- 13:41the things and activities that we do. And you know, it's a it's
- 13:43a ten year line to start, so you know, it's a it's a
- 13:46ten year commitment to UM to become a potentate at the at the Temple,
- 13:52and uh, it's it's a wonderful thing. You know, you learn a
- 13:56lot along the way, you meet a lot of nice people, and you
- 13:58know, you get to put your thumbprint on how we run things for a
- 14:03year and have the kind of moneys that were raised. And at the end
- 14:05of the day, it's all about raising money for the hospitals. Think that
- 14:09about that. We're out there having fun with a purpose. All right,
- 14:11give us the contact information again, Okay, it's telephone numbers, aery code
- 14:16three z row four three four three nine four zer row five and our website
- 14:20is b E N I K E D E m WUV dot us. All
- 14:26right, you're gonna head down to la this weekend for Benny's for the event
- 14:28down there, or you've got other things you have going I actually have several
- 14:33things going on. First and foremost is getting these onions out so new distribution.
- 14:39We have eighteen wheeler load coming and then that's an eighteen wheeler of onion.
- 14:43That's a lot of oh yes it is. So we've got to get
- 14:45that all disseminated, get them out there and get them to the people so
- 14:48they can start and join their onions over the weekend. All right, good

- 18:17is here. Before I get to Greg, I do want to address the
- 18:18text I had on the show yesterday and this one I had the folks,
- 18:22So I had to Andy shaffing the Dirty Birds on yesterday and at the end
- 18:25of the show, and I didn't get a chance to get this in.
- 18:26Somebody asked what would be the possibility of the Dirty Birds considering airing early season
- 18:32WVU football games on the Jump Road trod when there are no baseball games schedule,
- 18:37and they talked about the concession stand and the great atmosphere. I actually
- 18:41and that text came in at the end of the show. After the show,
- 18:42I talked to Andy about that and he said they are more than willing
- 18:45to look into that for the future. So just so you know, TEXTURE
- 18:49want to make sure I got that in. Eric Thomas is here. How
- 18:52you been man? Doing very well? How are you? I am doing
- 18:56well? Since the last time you and I spoke, Several things have happened
- 19:00in the world West Virginia politics. We're going to break them all down.
- 19:03There's always Greg is open and willing to take your text or your phone calls
- 19:07to the hotline number from Bigley Piggley whiggis three or four, three four,
- 19:10five, fifty and fifty at Fruit Pharmacy text line is three or four nine
- 19:12three five five zero zero eight. We know the Governor Justice is now running
- 19:17for Senate. He'll face Alex Mooney and Chris Rose and the primary winner to
- 19:22possibly meet Senator Mansion. I say possibly because we don't know yet what Senator
- 19:26Mansion is going to do. But before we get to Senator Mansion, I
- 19:30want to get your take of that. Let's talk about the governor first.
- 19:33Is is he up to this in your opinion? I mean, he's in
- 19:37a good spot politically for it, right, I mean I think you know,
- 19:41he's got a high favorability rating. You know, he's you know,
- 19:48gotten a lot of credit for the Republican agenda that's passed over the last few
- 19:52years, and you know, and that's been you know, they've done a
- 19:59lot of good stuff and a lot of stuff that's very popular. You know.
- 20:03So he's you know, politically, he's in a good spot. I
- 20:06think, you know, look personally, right, it's like you you know,
- 20:10you he leaves the businesses, you know, does the governor thing for
- 20:15eight years, you know, I would think it would be just cut up
- 20:18logistically hard to like go back into the businesses, right, I mean I
- 20:22would I mean, I you know, I don't know his internal business stuff,
- 20:26but like it just seems like it would be you know, he's just
- 20:32he's got to do something. You know. I'm a guy like that that's
- 20:34as busy as he is, has got to be doing something, you know.
- 20:37And so if it's like, all right, you're not going to go
- 20:38back into the business, uh, you you're term limited out as governor.
- 20:44You kind of got to go somewhere, And the US Senate's a pretty good
- 20:48spot to sort of just end up. So I think he's in a good
- 20:52position for it. And he's got some pretty heavy hitters behind him for that.
- 20:55I mean, Mitch McConnell is one of the ones that's kind of come
- 20:56out. He had Lindsay Graham at his announcement Greenbrow last week. Greg,
- 21:00Yeah, I mean I I'd rather not have the support of much McConnell.
- 21:04I mean, I guess I could see he's a candidate. Why you would
- 21:07want to he's a voter. I look at it and go it makes him
- 21:10he sort of leary because I'm not a McConnell's supporter, but like, uh,
- 21:15well, sure, you know, I think he's in a good spot.
- 21:18Um, I think his you know, when you look at the match
- 21:19up with him and Mooney, obviously, I'm sure he has a big lead
- 21:23or you know, I want to say a big lead. He has a
- 21:25sizeable lead right now, because he's got you know, he's been the governor,
- 21:30right, he's got super high name ID, he's got high favorabilities.
- 21:33Um. I do think Mooney's politics and sort of how he would vote is
- 21:37probably a little more in line with the Republican primary voters than than Justice,
- 21:41you know, having been a former Democrat, and you know, I would
- 21:45I don't know if he's a moderate. I don't really know what. I
- 21:47don't know how you would describe Justice as politics, right, I mean,
- 21:49I don't think he's really a moderate. He's not a conservative. He's just
- 21:52sort of, you know, depending on the issue, he kind of follows
- 21:55different ways. So you know. But but the one thing he does well
- 22:02is he connects with a lot of voters. You know, he connects with
- 22:04a lot of just average everyday people, which is really ironic when you think
- 22:08about it. Much like Trump, it's I mean, somebody who's a billionaire.
- 22:14And I will say this, no one has ever questioned Jim Justice's work
- 22:17ethic. Maybe they've questioned his governor a little bit, but they've never questioned
- 22:21his work ethic. As far as his businesses go and things of that nature.
- 22:23He was always on the job. Not a guy that takes a lot
- 22:26of vacations. Hoppy talked about this last week, not a gap, takes
- 22:29a lot of vacations, whatever. But for some reason, and maybe it's
- 22:32just the whole folksy thing he does. I mean, he's one of the
- 22:37most like the fourth Indeni which pole you look at the fourth most popular governor
- 22:41in America and there it's like the people know the negatives that come with Jim
- 22:48Justice, but they don't seem to care. You know, well, I
- 22:52just think he connects with them. I think a lot of you know,
- 22:55West Virginians just sort of find a way to kind of see him, and
- 22:59they find and something about him that they can relate to and um, and
- 23:04so he connects. Uh. You know, I think if you you know,
- 23:07look, I think if you went up there and said, okay,
- 23:10how is you know he's not gonna vote all that differently than what Mooney would.
- 23:14But Mooney checks the box right like one hundred percent of the time.
- 23:17Before West Virginians would vote right like just down the line every time. You
- 23:21know, he votes exactly the way our center right people would vote. Um.
- 23:25Justice is going to be there a lot, probably not always um,
- 23:29but you know that that connection that he has with folks, Uh, that's
- 23:33gonna be the thing that's going to be difficult for for Mooney to overcome.
- 23:37Um. No, Look, Mooney has done that several times. I mean,
- 23:41you know, there's never been a campaign where Mooney started out as the
- 23:42favorite. So I mean he's you know, he's done. I mean,
- 23:45nobody thought that he was going to obliterate David McKinley like he did. I
- 23:48Mean, it wasn't to me as surprised that he he beat McKinley. But
- 23:52with all due respect to David McKinley, he blew him out of the water.
- 23:56No, he did. And uh look at that again, that was
- 23:59the support of Trump and just that very conservative voting record, right, he
- 24:04votes right every time. And so look, I think, you know it
- 24:11without Trump's involvement, you know, if Trump just doesn't get involved in this
- 24:15race, which I have no idea if you will or not, but let's
- 24:17just say Trump doesn't get involved, I think that's a very competitive I think
- 24:22Mooney will be able to make it a very competitive race, and it will
- 24:26be up to you know, does the governor sort of stake out a more
- 24:30conservative position and does Mooney? Can Mooney find a way to start connecting with
- 24:37people. He's not going to be able to connect with people the way Justice
- 24:40can, but can he do a better job of connecting with people the Congressman
- 24:42Mooney has already come out, you know, guns a blazing talking about the
- 24:48governor and the fact that he used to be a Democrat, his financial issues.
- 24:52I saw one of the TV I mean, he announced on Thursday,
- 24:53Friday morning, six thirty in the morning. I've got the local TV news
- 24:57on and there's already Alex. And this is not a pack running. This
- 25:02is Alex Mooney, you know, for Senate run an ad And they talked
- 25:04about the way he had handled COVID. They had a character of him with
- 25:07a mask. Got a lot of people are still upset with the way the
- 25:11governor handled COVID. And you know, this is Greg. This is only
- 25:15going to continue. This is you know, the US Senate is a very
- 25:21big deal, right, I mean that the federal government is so big,
- 25:25right, America is so important in the world, and you know, the
- 25:29government is involved in so much of our lives in every aspect that there's just
- 25:33you know, there's a lot of interest in who he serves in the US
- 25:37Senate um and guess what, the US Senator from West Virginia has the same
- 25:41equal vote as the US Senator from California right in New York or Texas or
- 25:45whatever. And so it's you know that there's a lot of power in that
- 25:48US Senate position, which means there's going to be a lot of interest.
- 25:52There's going to be a lot of money of people trying to pursue you know,
- 25:56sort of pursua you know, uh, influence the direct you know where
- 26:00that campaign goes and so I look, you know, save a Trump endorsement,
- 26:07that's going to be a competitive race. That's going to be very,
- 26:11very expensive. Um. You know, I think today it's probably Justices to
- 26:15lose, But I do think it's going to be competitive, and you know,
- 26:18I think Justice is going to have to make clear you know, kind
- 26:21of where you know, we've seen he's gone along with the Republican not that
- 26:26he always did, right, I mean, and that's sort of what Mooney's
- 26:29gonna bring up. It's right, those first couple of years Justice really fought
- 26:33with the Republican high ranking you know, well, I mean but that was
- 26:38you know, that was like a policy thing of like, Okay, how
- 26:41are we going to go down this road? I mean, that stuff at
- 26:42the beginning, right, was just you know, it was battle. So
- 26:45yeah, yeah, he was he was just straight up. I mean,
- 26:49you know, he did propose the biggest tax increase in the state history.
- 26:52And then as he switched parties and then got along more with the Republican legislature
- 27:00and the way they were handling, um, you know, the way they
- 27:03were handling the state finances, it put us in a position to be able
- 27:07to cut taxes and um, you know, so you know that's what I'm
- 27:10saying. I mean, I think that's what Justice is going to have to
- 27:11do, is say, hey, you know, explain that further to say,
- 27:15all right, here's where I you know, here I started out as
- 27:18a Democrat, and here I was, and here's how I evolved into where
- 27:22I am now, And this is where I would be in the US center.
- 27:26And I think he's going to have to make that clear to to convince
- 27:30kind of that center, right of like, hey, you know, okay,
- 27:33I connect with you a little better, but gosh, I know Mooney's
- 27:36going to vote with me? Is he going to vote with me too?
- 27:38And I think Greg and I go back to what I said at the beginning
- 27:41of the segment. And I'm not trying to be you know, mean or
- 27:44anything like that, but it's a different world in Washington. You know that.
- 27:48Uh, it's a different world. He's going to have to be there.
- 27:52Um he's and he's just one of you know, uh, he's he's
- 27:56going to have to be there. Ficially, there's going to happen to be
- 28:00there. Something they can they can make that they can make. And when
- 28:06you've got as much money as justice as you can fly in and out,
- 28:07you know, you can get it over. I mean, look, you
- 28:10don't have to go to anymore, right you watch these Senate hearings and stuff
- 28:14like that. They're just huge. I mean, you know you see all
- 28:18that the other like, unless you unless it's like your turn to speak and
- 28:22your day to give your dog and pony show, those guys probably aren't showing
- 28:26up to that, you know what I mean. Like, like it's like,
- 28:27you know when you gotta have your turn to speak, so you show
- 28:30up. But if you don't have a turn to speak, what a you
- 28:32gotta be there. You have to be there if somebody tells you what goes
- 28:34on or whatever. You watch it on television. Yeah, I was listening
- 28:37to Dave Wilson, who's in for Hoppy the next two weeks, and he
- 28:38had on Tony Hodge, who's a vice chair of the State Republican Party,
- 28:41and Dave asked him that whomever comes out of the battle between money and justice
- 28:48and a primary um and I like to try to be fair to the other
- 28:51candidate in the race, but let's be honest here, it's going to be
- 28:53Mooney your justice um if they are left bruised and battered for the general possibly
- 29:00up against Senator Mansion. How does that play out? Because of the Mansion's
- 29:03not running again, there's no even sense of talking about it. Yes,
- 29:07no way. After he voted for that Green New Deal, that was it.
- 29:11Yeah, that was it. That was done. Yeah, he was
- 29:14done the day he voted for that. That was it. His his political
- 29:18you know, his ability to run again in West Virginia ended the day he
- 29:22voted for that Green New Deal. That's it. There's no there's no coming
- 29:25back from that. I mean, he made a decision to you know,
- 29:27I personally, I think Mansion's got a better chance getting elected president than he
- 29:33does Senate. And that's not gonna happen. I mean, with this no
- 29:37no level deal, what's going to happen? I heard an interesting scenario and
- 29:41and I'm not the the the civics expert that you are, and you can
- 29:45possibly you can, you're aware of this. If if Mansion runs for president,
- 29:49and you know, he he gets to that that magic number, that
- 29:55electrical that it kind of throws everything into a tailspin, then it has to
- 29:57be decided, you know, by our representatives. I mean, are you
- 30:02familiar with this, Yeah. I mean it's got to be like real club.
- 30:04I mean, that's like a tire. Do you think do you think
- 30:07there's enough people in America that I just I don't know. I think he's
- 30:11more likely. I think given Biden's age and obvious cognitive decline, that's obvious.
- 30:18It's obvious. I want to talk about that later, but I think
- 30:22I think Mansion would be better off just getting that Democratic primary and crossing his
- 30:27fingers. Really I do. I mean, I don't know. I don't
- 30:30I don't know enough about to be able to run as a third party and
- 30:36win, you would have to have an obscene amount of money and not look
- 30:40not. I think Mansion could raise a good bit of money. It's an
- 30:42independent. Um. But I think I just think there's going to be I
- 30:48think there's a space in the National Democratic Party. I don't think there is
- 30:52in West Virginia or maybe in a couple of places, right, but I
- 30:56think in Pennsylvania, in Michigan there's a there's a spot for a Democrat that
- 31:03comes in and says, hey, um, I think this transgender stuff is
- 31:07there's lunacy. Um, I think this inflation is out of control. Um.
- 31:14I don't think Biden has the wherewithal and the is, you know,
- 31:18sort of mentally up for a second term. Who else she got? I
- 31:23just I don't know. I don't know what you know. I'm not a
- 31:26Democrat. I'm not into you know, the I don't follow the federal stuff
- 31:30as much as a lot of other people do. I don't know what all
- 31:33the states are. I would just assume there's a spot for that kind of
- 31:37person. I don't know what that is. I don't know how hard it
- 31:41would be to get around it. The problem with Mansion is, Greg is
- 31:45I think there's a lot. I mean, you know that the Republicans are
- 31:48against you, but there's a whole heck of a lot of Democrats, especially
- 31:49outside West Virginia, that do not see Joe Mansion as one of them.
- 31:55I mean, all you're gonna do is it would be hard. Joe Manchion
- 32:00not do very well in New York, he wouldn't do very well in Chicago.
- 32:04He's not going to do very well in California. But what about the
- 32:07Pennsylvanias and the you know, the other places like that. I mean,
- 32:12I just I think that they're you know, the blue states that don't have
- 32:16huge cities, or they have at least a lot of rural and kind of
- 32:20suburban areas. And look, I don't know if Mansion would really do that
- 32:25or not. I you know, I don't, you know, obviously I
- 32:28no one, but I mean I know of him, but I don't.
- 32:30It's not like we're buddies and we talk on the phone or something, So
- 32:34I don't know. I mean, I just I don't know if he's going
- 32:37to do that. But I just don't think there's a there's not a path
- 32:39for him to win the US Senate seed in West Virginia. It doesn't exist,
- 32:44you know. And you and you say that, and we'll go to
- 32:45break with this. Um. You say that about about Mansion and his support
- 32:50in a lot of those non urban areas like you mentioned Pennsylvania in those series.
- 32:53Those are people that voted for Trump in twenty sixteen, but many of
- 32:57them turned around and voted for Biden in twenty twenty, and they voted for
- 33:00Democrats for US Senate before, you know, I mean, that's we Republicans
- 33:05would have control of the US Senate if those people would have voted for Republican
- 33:07candidates last time. Yeah, all right, Well, I'm want to get

- 36:28Thomas is here where the tech says You're right day. The Democratic Party establishment
- 36:30absolutely loath Joe Mansion. He cannot move much higher in his party, Texas
- 36:37says, What does Greg think about Mike Stewart trying to bounce around into the
- 36:38ag position? Washingtonson one vote for him for Attorney General when he won't even
- 36:43commit to the current job he was voted to do. Mike Stewart's got an
- 36:46announcement coming up today that everybody, you know, pretty much, it's the
- 36:51foregone coclusion. He's going announce he's running for attorney General. That announcement is
- 36:54today. He'll be on the show Thursday. Go ahead. Look, I
- 36:57don't think there's a political downside for one of the advantages to being in the
- 37:02state Senate, especially one that's sort of this off year, right, Like,
- 37:06if you got elected last year in the state Senate, you can run
- 37:08for something else this year and not give up your position, you know,
- 37:13and that's just a great you know, there's a lot of senators that end
- 37:16up doing stuff like that because they sort of look at it like it's a
- 37:19free pass, right. It's like, Okay, I don't have to give
- 37:21up my spot, but I can run for something else. Um. Look,
- 37:23I think that's going to be a competitive ag race. I mean,
- 37:25I think you got you know, Ryan weld A is a you know,
- 37:29and I look, I know both these guys personally. I'm friends with both
- 37:31of them. I like both of them. Um, but they're different,
- 37:35right, I mean, you know, very different. Weld is you know,
- 37:37weld isn't is from the Northern Panhandle. You know, Stuart's uh has
- 37:42lived down here for a long time. He's kind of from the I don't
- 37:45know what's Stewart from, like Morgantown or Barbara County or Barbara County originally,
- 37:47I think him and families from anyway, I'll put it, you know.
- 37:50And so, uh, you know, Stuart's probably a little more on the
- 37:54populist, sort of conservative side. Weld's a little bit more on the you
- 38:00know sort of business uh you know, establishment sort of business side. Um.
- 38:07You know, but they're they're both well spoken guys obviously, both attorneys,
- 38:12um, you know, kind of have a corporate business background. Uh,
- 38:15you know, just a different sort of view politically, and I think
- 38:20that's what that campaign will be about, right, it's just you know,
- 38:22hey, how are you gonna do? You know, how are you going
- 38:24to handle this office? Um? Obviously, you know, most of the
- 38:28attention that comes out of the g AG's office is sort of the fighting the
- 38:31federal government and the pushbacks. Yeah, and then that's you know, but
- 38:36but there's more to it than that. UM. I think that Morrissey um
- 38:39has done a good job on that pushback stuff. I think it's the other
- 38:43stuff that that that's where these guys are going to have to say Hey,
- 38:46here's where I would break you know. You know, Morrissey campaigned on being
- 38:52sort of different than more than than Darryl mcgrawl, and this is you know,
- 38:57he's been in there for a while. So for those of us that
- 38:59were involved in that effort, which I was, um, you know,
- 39:01it was like, oh, I'm not going to hire outside council and go
- 39:05around suing companies and suing people all all the time. But he did,
- 39:08right, I mean, Morrissey very much did that, despite the fact that
- 39:12he campaigned against it. Um. I think that's something to really That's what
- 39:15I'm going to be looking for from these AG candidates. It's like, Okay,
- 39:19how do you handle that? How are you going to handle you know,
- 39:22just you know, hiring personal injury lawyers on behalf of the state to
- 39:25go out and sue businesses. Um. You know that's something that Morrissey pledged
- 39:30to do and didn't do. How are you going to handle that? And
- 39:32so I think the on the from the business end, from the job creator
- 39:36side, that's going to be the you know, something to look at in
- 39:38that race. Uh, Texas, Greg, you can say bribe you don't
- 39:43have to use in your window. You can say US senators are bribed because
- 39:45of their influential vote. Try it being honest will set you free. Um,
- 39:51I mean they're not bribed. I mean listen again, So it's a
- 39:54weird way to look at I mean, there's just there's you know, there's
- 39:59a lot of money in camp pains, you know. You know, running
- 40:01ads on this station are not free. In television, it's not free.
- 40:07In the digital ads and stuff you see on Facebook, they're not free.
- 40:10Polling isn't free, you know what I mean, Like like campaigns cost money,
- 40:15are an inner expensive, you know. I don't think it's like just
- 40:17going directly into these guys pockets. Look, do I think that there are
- 40:22corrupt US senators? Obviously I do, but I don't you know, look,
- 40:27I don't think. I don't think any of these people are just getting
- 40:30bribed to vote one way or the other. I mean, like got some
- 40:32texts or Texas. If Mike Stuart were a populist, it wouldn't be opposed
- 40:36to cannabis legislation. He's a conservative to a fault. Texture says, I
- 40:39have to disagree with your guest. I would never vote for justice orimony for
- 40:43anything. And I think there are a lot of people like me who pay
- 40:45no attention to R or D but to effectiveness. I guess I've just seen
- 40:52polling, so I know that that's that's I mean, I understand that person
- 40:55feels that way, and I are staying there's other people that feel that way,
- 40:59but it's not the most most Virginias. Most most Virginians do not feel
- 41:01that way. I mean, it's that's just not I get that there are
- 41:05people that do, but that's not most of people in most Virginia. Tech
- 41:07says Dear Dave Gregg doesn't understand big Gym's likability in West Virginia because Greg himself
- 41:13doesn't have it. Personality goes a long way here. I voted against Jim
- 41:15at first into a full one eighty. However, I've disliked Gregg the entire
- 41:20time. Oh well, that's the laws or something. They're you know,
- 41:24there are Democrats out there, and there are you know, kind of rhinos.
- 41:30That's you know, they get to call in and text into uh.
- 41:32Texas Republicans of the state cannot run on their record. The state is last
- 41:36in education. Job let me finish. The state is last in education,
- 41:39job participation, job creation led the country and drug overdose deaths. Energy bills
- 41:45have gone up one hundred and fifty percent of the last eight years, and
- 41:47no end in sight. That's GOP leadership. That's this is that's a ridiculous
- 41:52thing to say Democrats had control of the state for eighty four years. Uh.
- 41:57Let let's I'll point out one you know, almost all of that the
- 42:00I'll say one thing they're actually right about, and then all the rest of
- 42:04it was wrong. But I'll point out one of the things that's wrong because
- 42:07it's the easiest thing to point out. There's this thing called workforce participation rate,
- 42:10right, which is how many people in your state that our able body
- 42:14actually get up and go to work every day. They've been the federal government
- 42:17has been calculating this number every month since February of nineteen seventy six. West
- 42:23Virginia has been last in that category every month since February of nineteen seventy six.
- 42:30To say that, to say that that's the Republicans fault just because we
- 42:35took over a few years ago, is that's it's just an outrageous thing to
- 42:37say, and it's it's dishonest, actually, is what it is. The
- 42:42one point that I will give them is the drug overdose stuff. You know,
- 42:46we we were we were last in drug overdose when when the Republicans took
- 42:51over, But it actually is something that has gotten worse. And so I
- 42:54think that's you know, I've been in a lot of conversations with Republicans.
- 42:59I think that is going to be an issue that's going to be looked at.
- 43:01Look, I'm not saying this is all the Republicans fault of some kind
- 43:06of policies they've done. I just think we're going to have to put in
- 43:09new policies to fix it. I think a lot of this is kind of
- 43:13stemming from some federal things that have you know, federal kind of programs that
- 43:15have gone on that have sort of promoted this over the last few years.
- 43:19But I think the Republicans do need to get serious about addressing the drug problem
- 43:22and the drug overdose problem in West Virginia. For sure, the tech says
- 43:27Republicans won't stay out of women's bodies and they won't do anything about the guns.
- 43:30Instead of fire drills, children have to have school shooter drills. Sure,
- 43:36how that's sort of part of the Republicans, but that's you know,
- 43:38some people are liberals and have that viewpoint, and you know that that's just
- 43:44not the view of I mean, West Virginia is a center right state.
- 43:47Right, we are you know, we're a pro Second Amendment state. We're
- 43:52a pro life state with exceptions. Right. We didn't you know, we
- 43:55didn't ban it entirely. We've been you know, we banned abortion with exceptions.
- 44:00Uh, West Virginia's system. We're a center right state. And those
- 44:02are just because that's that. That is the majority, the majority, the
- 44:06vast majority of West Virginia. That's not going to change. That's not going
- 44:07to change anytime in the next thirty years. I don't think it'll change during
- 44:12our lifetime. I'll say that I can't imagine it work. Remember, says
- 44:15the texture Trump did not have a press conference for his last three years as
- 44:17president. Correct. I don't know whether he did or not. It can
- 44:21imagine If that is true, then then he was wrong. And I would
- 44:25I would say to say that Trump wasn't accessible to the medias. He loved
- 44:30the media. He went after the media. Uh, well, he went
- 44:36after him. But it was also like this give and take though, right,
- 44:38I mean, they loved they loved having him there as much as he
- 44:42loved having them cover, he loved having them cover him. All Right,
- 44:45I mean to do this texting, we'll go to break and I guest some
- 44:46other things I want to get into with the Inflation is down three point three
- 44:49percent since August twenty twenty two. Do you have the guts to acknowledge that
- 44:52this has nothing to do with the congressional Republicans who passed no laws? Also?
- 44:57Do you have the guts to admit inflation in response well for records severance
- 45:00taxes in West Virginia. UM, I don't think you can entirely. I
- 45:08don't think you can entirely correlate inflation and UM and the and the energy prices.
- 45:15I mean, it's just a they're two different things. I'm not saying
- 45:17they don't have any relationship to each other, but I don't. I don't
- 45:20think that's something you can say one is rather than the other. UM,
- 45:23you know, commodity prices of something like energy in the you know, just
- 45:30general inflation. I mean, if you don't think inflation was spurred on by
- 45:34all the printing of all that money a couple of years ago and the continued
- 45:39dramatic increases in federal spending. You know, you just you just don't understand
- 45:45economics, and I don't really know how to, you know, I don't
- 45:46think we can get into that on a talk show. All right, nine
- 45:50fifty three we got to take a break. I got some other things I
- 45:52want to get into. Five any Lie brought two party about husbands Pizza this

- 48:20in every school and that candidate is JB. Mccowski. According to a texture,
- 48:23texture says, ascul Republicans figure out early voting ballad harvesting on a national
- 48:29level or just complain about Biden and Lows, I, you know, I
- 48:32actually do not. I do not have an opinion on that, but I've
- 48:37just because I haven't like seen enough data on it. But it seems like
- 48:43there's a lot of merit in that. I mean, it's sort of you
- 48:45know, you know, we're not going to be able to stop it in
- 48:49certain places, right, I mean, states. States are the ones that
- 48:52regulate how the elections go in those states, and so you get some of
- 48:54these blue states, you know, or kind of purple states if you will,
- 49:00that probably you know, I passed some laws that facilitate that kind of
- 49:04stuff. And if the Republicans can't change the laws, and those are the
- 49:07rules to the game, you're gonna have to play, you know, If
- 49:09those are the rules of the game, you're gonna have to play the game
- 49:10that way. So I mean, I think, you know, I don't
- 49:13know enough about it to get down in the weeds, um, just because
- 49:16I you know, I mainly just can't you know, work here in West
- 49:20Virginia. So I know what the I know what the rules of the game
- 49:22here are, right, So I mean if I were in Pennsylvania, if
- 49:24I'm in Michigan and the rules of the game are different, I think that
- 49:29person's probably right that the Republicans are going to have to learn how to play
- 49:31within the confines of the whatever the rules are. Tech says the GOP or
- 49:37Old Democrats could or couldn't be both to blame for West Virginia as well.
- 49:40Was However, one philosophy is historically the driving force behind both West Virginia parties,
- 49:45and that's conservatism. We can blame conservatism for West Virginia being perpetually at
- 49:51the bottom. That's an that is a and that's a ridiculous thing to say.
- 49:55I mean that, like seriously, that's a ridiculous thing to say.
- 49:58To think that West Virginia had conservative policies in place post like you know,
- 50:05post Great Depression, that's an outrageous thing to say. We're still dealing with
- 50:08a lot of the socialistic type policies that were put in place after the Great
- 50:14Depression to this day in West Virginia. And that's one hundred percent the reason
- 50:17we were lasting everything. It's not even up for debate. I mean,
- 50:21but I don't think that you can say, maybe I'm wrong. I don't
- 50:22want to put words in greg. I don't think that you can say that
- 50:25West Virginia was a liberal state with Democrats. We remember the Amendment stuff we
- 50:31tried to pass last year and tried to say, Okay, we got to
- 50:35come in and we're going to change the way we tax. You know,
- 50:37when those you know that that part of the Like, those weren't just laws
- 50:42the legislature past post Great Depression. Those were things they enshrined in the constitution.
- 50:46That wasn't stuff that started out in the constitution when we first became a
- 50:50state. That stuff was put in the constitution after the Great Depression. Is
- 50:54a reaction to just sort of anti corporate interests. Like we still have that
- 51:00stuff, it still exists today. Like you know that I don't know.
- 51:05I mean, I maybe this person just doesn't know the history of it.
- 51:07But like that that is the reason, man, I mean, these aren't
- 51:09thing, These aren't things that started in our constitution when we became a state.
- 51:14Like these are things up. Many of the things that are in place
- 51:17now are things that are a reaction to the Great Depression and things that came
- 51:22in with FDR and all of that. And we have been undoing that stuff
- 51:29for seven years and it's going to take another you know, I don't know
- 51:31how long it's going to take. I hope it's not much more than another
- 51:35seven to undo it, all right, Greg, It's always a pleasure to
- 51:37have you on the show. And there's always I don't get to all them.
