Speaker 1: I watched AOC answering questions in Munich. This was not
• 0:05
Speaker 1: a good look for the United States. AOC. I never
• 0:07
Speaker 1: really got her to I've never heard her speak very much.
• 0:10
Speaker 1: They started answer a question. She had no idea what
• 0:13
Speaker 1: was apperty? She had no idea how to answer, you know,
• 0:15
Speaker 1: very important questions concerning the world.
• 0:19
Speaker 2: You're listening to the forty seven Morning Update with Ben ferguson.
• 0:22
  Speaker 3: Good Wednesday morning.
• 0:23
Speaker 4: Nice to have you with us on the forty seven
• 0:25
Speaker 4: Morning Update, and we've got a very.
• 0:27
Speaker 3: Big story for you.
• 0:29
Speaker 4: The Department of Justice has issued new subpoenas in the
• 0:33
Speaker 4: Russian election interference response. This is what accountability looks like
• 0:39
Speaker 4: for the left going after Donald Trump and trying to
• 0:42
Speaker 4: take him out. It was nothing more than a coup attempt,
• 0:45
Speaker 4: and now they're having to answer.
• 0:47
Speaker 3: For it, and we have the details.
• 0:49
Speaker 4: It's the forty seven Morning Update and it starts right now.
• 0:53
  Speaker 2: Story number one.
• 0:54
Speaker 4: So the DOJ has issued new subpoenas in the Russian
• 0:58
Speaker 4: election interference case. But I want to take you back
• 1:02
Speaker 4: and remind you quickly of what got us to where
• 1:04
Speaker 4: we are today in this accountability. After the twenty sixteen election,
• 1:09
Speaker 4: US intelligence agencies run.
• 1:12
Speaker 3: By you guessed it.
• 1:13
Speaker 4: The radicals and the deep state, including the FBI, the CIA,
• 1:18
Speaker 4: and the NSA, concluded that the Russian government directed a
• 1:22
Speaker 4: broad influence campaign targeting the US election with a goal
• 1:27
Speaker 4: of undermining confidence in the democratic process and harming they say,
• 1:31
Speaker 4: Hillary Clinton's campaign. Now, they assessed that the Russian president
• 1:37
Speaker 4: Vladimir Putin quote preferred Donald Trump as the eventual winner,
• 1:42
Speaker 4: though they did not allege precise vote tampering or directly
• 1:47
Speaker 4: changing the results. It was simply done as a mind
• 1:51
Speaker 4: game to screw with those on election day and forcing
• 1:55
Speaker 4: them into trying to go with Hillary Clinton.
• 1:57
  Speaker 3: Well after Donald.
• 1:58
Speaker 4: Trump shocked the war, the deep state decided they had
• 2:02
Speaker 4: to fight back, even though the people elected him as president.
• 2:06
Speaker 4: Fast forward to the Special Council Robert Mueller being appointed
• 2:10
Speaker 4: in twenty seventeen to investigate both the Russian interference and
• 2:15
Speaker 4: whether there was criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia. Now,
• 2:20
Speaker 4: the findings on the interference were pretty clear. Muller's report
• 2:24
Speaker 4: documented that Russia engaged in a quote sweeping and systematic
• 2:29
Speaker 4: influence effort, including cyber hacking and disinformation tactics. Then they
• 2:35
Speaker 4: said there was a social media operation a Russian organization
• 2:38
Speaker 4: called Internet Research Agency or IRA, ran extensive social media
• 2:45
Speaker 4: campaigns aimed at sowing political division in the US and
• 2:49
Speaker 4: at times amplifying support for Trump policies and criticism they
• 2:54
Speaker 4: claimed of Hillary Clinton. And then there was the hacking
• 2:57
Speaker 4: in the leagues. Russian intelligence operatives they said, hack the
• 3:01
Speaker 4: Democratic Party systems, including the Clinton campaign, the DNC, and
• 3:06
Speaker 4: release still in material through intermediaries like wiki leaks. Now,
• 3:12
Speaker 4: at the end of the day, what we found out
• 3:14
Speaker 4: was reality, there was no criminal conspiracy. This was all
• 3:18
Speaker 4: made up in a lie to attack and undermine Donald
• 3:20
Speaker 4: Trump and ultimately to get Donald Trump out of office.
• 3:24
Speaker 4: It was a coup to impeach Donald Trump. The Mueller
• 3:27
Speaker 4: investigation ultimately found no sufficient evidence that the Trump campaign
• 3:33
Speaker 4: or its associates conspired in any way or coordinated with
• 3:37
Speaker 4: Russian government efforts in a way that met federal criminal
• 3:41
Speaker 4: law standards. So you look at that reality and just
• 3:45
Speaker 4: reminding you of how we got to where we are today.
• 3:48
Speaker 4: And then there's the big question of accountability when the
• 3:51
Speaker 4: government went rogue to undermine the American people, the will
• 3:55
Speaker 4: of the people, and to try to overthrow a president
• 3:58
Speaker 4: of the United States America is there ever going to
• 4:01
Speaker 4: be accountability for that? Fast forward to now what we
• 4:05
Speaker 4: are learning and you're going to love this. The Justice
• 4:09
Speaker 4: Department has now issued new subpoenas in a Florida based
• 4:13
Speaker 4: investigation targeting individuals who pursued actions against then President Donald Trump,
• 4:22
Speaker 4: as well as examining the US government's response to the
• 4:27
Speaker 4: Russian interference in the twenty sixteen election that, according to
• 4:31
Speaker 4: people familiar with the matter, an initial wave of subpoenas
• 4:35
Speaker 4: in November asks recipients for documents related to the preparation
• 4:41
Speaker 4: of a US intelligence community assessment that detailed a sweeping,
• 4:46
Speaker 4: multi pronged effort by Moscow to help Trump defeat the
• 4:51
Speaker 4: Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in twenty sixteen. Now that the
• 4:55
Speaker 4: first subpoenas requested documents from the months surrounding the January
• 5:00
Speaker 4: twenty seventeen publication of the Obama administration intelligence assessment, the
• 5:06
Speaker 4: latest subpoenas seek any records from the years since. Then,
• 5:10
Speaker 4: said that people who spoke on condition of anonymity to
• 5:14
Speaker 4: the Associated Press to discuss a non public demand from investigators.
• 5:20
Speaker 4: Now the Justice Department declined to comment as well on
• 5:23
Speaker 4: this new breaking news. The subpoenas represent continued investigative activity
• 5:30
Speaker 4: in one of several criminal inquiries the Justice Department has
• 5:34
Speaker 4: undertaken into Trump's political opponents. An array of former intelligence
• 5:40
Speaker 4: and law enforcement officials have received subpoenas, and lawyers now
• 5:45
Speaker 4: for former CIA director John Brennan, who helped oversee the
• 5:49
Speaker 4: drafting of the assessment, have said they have been informed
• 5:53
Speaker 4: that he is a target, but have not been told
• 5:57
Speaker 4: of any quote legally justifiable basis they claim for undertaking
• 6:02
Speaker 4: this investigation. Now that brings us back to that exact
• 6:07
Speaker 4: story of what happened late last year. Greda Vancestram had
• 6:11
Speaker 4: this to say as she talked to Jim Jordan's about
• 6:15
Speaker 4: the beginnings of this investigation.
• 6:17
Speaker 5: Former CIA director John Brennan, who hates President Trump and
• 6:21
Speaker 5: says Trump is a national security risk, is in hot water. Yesterday,
• 6:25
Speaker 5: the House Judiciary Committee referred Brennan to the Justice Department
• 6:28
Speaker 5: for criminal prosecution. Why well, the criminal referral letter says
• 6:33
Speaker 5: that the former CIA director knowingly made false statements to
• 6:36
Speaker 5: Congress about his alleged role in the quote Russia collusion hoax.
• 6:40
Speaker 5: In the criminal referral letter to Attorney General Pan Boondi,
• 6:43
Speaker 5: how Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan wrote, quote Brennan's testimony
• 6:47
Speaker 5: before the committee on May eleventh, twenty twenty three, was
• 6:50
Speaker 5: a brazen attempt to knowingly and willfully testify falsely and
• 6:54
Speaker 5: fictitiously to material facts. End quote. Earlier, I spoke with
• 6:58
Speaker 5: the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan.
• 7:02
Speaker 5: Mister Chairman, nice to speak to sir.
• 7:05
Speaker 3: Gonna be with you.
• 7:05
  Speaker 2: Greta.
• 7:06
Speaker 5: You have made a criminal referral to the Department of Justice.
• 7:09
Speaker 5: Tell me what it is and why.
• 7:11
Speaker 6: Well, I mean, you're not supposed to lie. We all
• 7:14
Speaker 6: know that, and you're definitely not supposed to lie when
• 7:16
Speaker 6: you're under oath talking to Congress. I mean, this is
• 7:18
Speaker 6: you know this, Greta. As a skilled counselor like you are.
• 7:21
Speaker 6: Eighteen USC. Section one thousand and one, you're not supposed
• 7:24
Speaker 6: to do that. And it sure looks like that's exactly
• 7:27
Speaker 6: what John Brennan did. He told us he wasn't involved
• 7:30
Speaker 6: at all with the dossier when they put the Intelligence
• 7:32
Speaker 6: Community assessment. He said he didn't want it referenced in
• 7:35
Speaker 6: the Intelligence Community assessment back in twenty sixteen seventeen, and
• 7:40
Speaker 6: yet because of Director of National Intelligence Tulsea Gabbert declassifying
• 7:45
Speaker 6: a House Intelligence Committee's report. It looks like that is
• 7:50
Speaker 6: exactly wrong what Brennan said, because in that report, they
• 7:55
Speaker 6: said John Brennan put in writing, yes, include the dossier
• 7:59
Speaker 6: in the in the Intelligence community assessment, And there was
• 8:03
Speaker 6: a situation where one individual at the CIA approached mister
• 8:09
Speaker 6: Brennan and said, hey, this dossier doesn't stand up. The
• 8:13
Speaker 6: under the underlying intelligence is just not there. It's it's
• 8:16
Speaker 6: it's garbage. It shouldn't be in the report. And mister
• 8:19
Speaker 6: Brennan's response was, yeah, but doesn't it seem right, doesn't
• 8:24
Speaker 6: it shit? I mean he was out to get the president.
• 8:27
Speaker 6: I think that's obvious from from what h OD and
• 8:31
Speaker 6: I Director Gabbard declassified and made available to the public.
• 8:36
Speaker 6: So I don't do many of these really over the years,
• 8:38
Speaker 6: haven't done many referrals because I think it's got to
• 8:40
Speaker 6: be really solid before you do something like this. But
• 8:43
Speaker 6: this is one where I think the evidence is clear.
• 8:46
Speaker 6: Mister Brennan told us under oath he was not involved
• 8:49
Speaker 6: with the dossier, it wasn't used, when in fact it was.
• 8:53
Speaker 4: Now it's very clear from what you just heard there
• 8:55
Speaker 4: from Congressman Jim Jordan that the former CI director John
• 8:58
Speaker 4: Brennan is an individual who hated Trump and at all
• 9:01
Speaker 4: costs was willing to do whatever it took to.
• 9:03
  Speaker 3: Take him down.
• 9:04
Speaker 4: And you can look at the Intelligence Community assessment that
• 9:08
Speaker 4: was published in the final days of the Obama administration.
• 9:11
Speaker 4: It found that Russia had quote developed a clear preference
• 9:16
Speaker 4: their words for Trump in the twenty sixteen election, and
• 9:20
Speaker 4: that Russian President Putin had ordered an influence campaign with
• 9:24
Speaker 4: the goals of undermining confidence in American democracy or harming
• 9:28
Speaker 4: Clinton's chance of victory.
• 9:31
Speaker 3: This was all well a lie.
• 9:33
Speaker 4: That conclusion and a related investigation to whether the twenty
• 9:37
Speaker 4: sixteen Trump campaign concluded with Russia to sway the outcome
• 9:41
Speaker 4: of the election has long been among the Republican president's
• 9:44
Speaker 4: chief grievances, as it should be, and Trump vowed to
• 9:49
Speaker 4: make sure that there was transparency on the issue. We
• 9:53
Speaker 4: also know that the former FBI Director James Comy was
• 9:57
Speaker 4: indicted by the Trump administration last year on false statement
• 10:01
Speaker 4: and obstruction charges. Those cases were later dismissed. Multiple government reports,
• 10:08
Speaker 4: including bipartison congression reviews, and a criminal investigation by the
• 10:13
Speaker 4: former Special Counsel Robert Mueller have found that Russia interfered,
• 10:18
Speaker 4: they claim, in Trump's favor through a hack and leak
• 10:21
Speaker 4: operation of democratic emails, as well as a covert social
• 10:26
Speaker 4: media campaign aimed at sowing discord and swaying American public opinion.
• 10:32
Speaker 4: Now all of this is now coming to a head,
• 10:36
Speaker 4: and Donald Trump's administration is now freshly scrutinizing the intelligence
• 10:40
Speaker 4: community's assessment, and in part because a classified version of
• 10:45
Speaker 4: it's incorporated in its annex a summary of the Steele
• 10:49
Speaker 4: dossier as well as a complication of Democratic fund opposition
• 10:55
Speaker 4: research that was assembled by the liar, you know, the
• 10:59
Speaker 4: former British by Christopher Steele, that would be the Still dossier,
• 11:03
Speaker 4: and was provided to the FBI. That research into Trump's
• 11:07
Speaker 4: potential leaks to Russia included uncorroborated rumors and salacious gossip,
• 11:14
Speaker 4: and Trumps long held up that as the weakness in
• 11:18
Speaker 4: an effort to make it clear that the entire Russia
• 11:21
Speaker 4: investigation was a hoax from the very beginning. Now, the
• 11:25
Speaker 4: investigation in Florida appears to be part of a broader
• 11:29
Speaker 4: effort to revisit year's old findings and decisions from the
• 11:35
Speaker 4: Russian investigation. A declassified CIA tradecraft review revealed last July
• 11:42
Speaker 4: by current Director John Ratcliffe did not refute the conclusion
• 11:47
Speaker 4: of Russian election interference, but found quote multiple procedural abnormalities
• 11:53
Speaker 4: in the intelligence community's assessment and chided Brennan for the
• 11:58
Speaker 4: fact that the classified version reference the Steel dossier, which
• 12:02
Speaker 4: they knew was user generated in a lie. Finally, Britain
• 12:08
Speaker 4: testified to Congress and also wrote in his memoir that
• 12:12
Speaker 4: he was opposed to including information from the dossier in
• 12:16
Speaker 4: the intelligence assessment since neither its substance nor sources had
• 12:21
Speaker 4: been validated, and he said the dossier did not inform
• 12:26
Speaker 4: the judgments of the assessment. He continues to maintain the
• 12:31
Speaker 4: FBI pushed for its inclusion. One thing's for sure, someone's lying.
• 12:38
Speaker 4: More than likely a lot of people are lying. And
• 12:41
Speaker 4: the big question now is will there be accountability for this? Well,
• 12:46
Speaker 4: that's exactly what this investigation clearly seems to be doing,
• 12:51
Speaker 4: and wanting to get to the bottom of all of
• 12:53
Speaker 4: it so we don't have to worry about these types
• 12:55
Speaker 4: of bad actors in our government abusing their power.
• 12:59
  Speaker 3: Moving fullward.
