- 0:27SPEAKER_08: Roller guys.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the O'Brien and Doug Podcast.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: I'm O'Brien.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: I'm Doug.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: And it's episode 196.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Hello, everybody.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: We're we're like four episodes away from two.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: 200 episodes.
- 0:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: 200 episodes above nothing.
- 0:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, well, we are the Seinfeld of Podcast.
- 0:46SPEAKER_05: This is true.
- 0:46SPEAKER_05: This is true.
- 0:47SPEAKER_05: Until until Jerry Seinfeld has a podcast.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 0:50SPEAKER_05: Which I don't think he will.
- 0:51SPEAKER_05: He doesn't need to.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Well, he had a show.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he had another show, yeah.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: The the coffee show, you know, the interview show that he had.
- 0:58SPEAKER_05: Well, I was uh You know David Spade and Dana Carvey have a podcast, right?
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Well, I saw uh Howard Stern interviewing both of them.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, was it Howard Stern?
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: I th I thought yeah, it was.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: It was Howard Stern because he was asking Dana Carvey um if he and um Mike Myers had made up yet.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Because there was a I guess there was uh Oh was there some sort of falling out between the two of them, but they've they've made up.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: But David Spade was sitting next to Dana Carvey and like that's kind of weird.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: So I didn't know they had a podcast until you just said that, but I figured it was it's called Fly on the Wall or something like that.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, is it about SNL?
- 1:32SPEAKER_05: No, it's just route stuff.
- 1:34SPEAKER_05: Like I saw a uh there was a clip online, they were talking about Mike Tyson.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:39SPEAKER_05: They were like, you know, Mike Tyson's really weird because you know he'll be like, you know, pre-fighting you'll be, and Dana Carvey was doing like a spot on impression of course he was Mike Tyson.
- 1:48SPEAKER_05: He was like, Yeah, I'm gonna put them into the universe and stuff like that.
- 1:51SPEAKER_05: And David's face just losing it.
- 1:53SPEAKER_05: And then he's like, but then after the fight, he's like the sweetest guy like, you know, you're a really great fighter.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: So he was just gonna psych out, right?
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: So it was just really funny, right?
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm trying to think, let's catch anybody up.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: What what what did we do this past week?
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: Well, you went to Allstate.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: I went to all the Allstate Music Festival and it was it was good.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: I will tell you, the uh because I took one student down.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: They meant well Allstate is basically the greatest uh singers that year.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: I am the greatest.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Uh high school singers that year, uh from around the state.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: And they all get together with a uh just just an amazing conductor and they work on these pieces and they put on a concert after three days of intensive rehearsal.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: And it was unbelievable.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Uh and it's on WHOU.live if you're interested in in uh checking it out.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Um it was I was in the rehearsal room when they were practicing and it was just the hair on my arms stood up.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: It was so amazing.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Uh and I, you know, it's a it's a uh music teacher uh professional development as well.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: We have workshops that we go to.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: I went to a couple.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: Um so it was good.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: It was it was uh it was a it was a pretty good weekend, but my favorite part was actually uh when I didn't go to a workshop, I would go back to the hotel and lay down and sleep.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: I was chilling, man.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I did get the boo moose.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Um didn't get a whole lot, but I got to spend a lot of time there.
- 3:26SPEAKER_05: I'm sure which was like, ah, it's this guy again.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: A couple times, you're right.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: I did go I I you know, one day I went and I spent a bunch of time there and then I left, and the next day I was like, I got time, I'm gonna go to Boom Moose again.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Why not?
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Again, I didn't really buy anything, but uh you know, it's just looking well yeah, exactly.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:43SPEAKER_05: Window shopping.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:45SPEAKER_05: Well, I always enjoyed uh because I did uh all roustic in high school.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 3:49SPEAKER_05: And that was always fun.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: We have a good time at all roustic as well.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: So and that's the same type of thing.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: They rehearse for for a day or so or a day or two, and then they put on a show and it's it's just it's great.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: Um what else happened?
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: That's that's it.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Well well we had rehearsal um Sunday night, and we're we've got some new uh I guess I guess you could say non-horn songs.
- 4:11SPEAKER_05: Well, new old well, they're all from uh for you know from our other alter ego.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Our one one off one.
- 4:19SPEAKER_05: One off you know, Reverend Funk and the congregation.
- 4:22SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Uh which essentially was a Star City syndicate without the horns.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 4:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was just everybody no horns.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:29SPEAKER_05: And yeah, so we just re resurrected those songs and that was fun.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think we'll weave those into a syndicate here here somewhere.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Um my wife is supposed to be sending me a t-shirt design for the for the syndicate, a new a new t-shirt design.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: She's been she'd been trying to do something for a long time just because we need a new one.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: And um is was struggling and she's busy and busy, busy.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Anyway, she she came up with something real quick and I'm like, print it.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: So she's going to send it to me so I can show it to you.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: So we can get at least two syndicators approval.
- 5:04SPEAKER_05: Syndicators.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: Don't go blind.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, and I have to remind me, don't don't let me forget.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Because I should have said this before we started the podcast.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Um, uh there's a potential gig for us, for you and I.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: In October.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: So remind me.
- 5:20SPEAKER_05: Is it the Halloween party again?
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Halloween.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: No, it'd be early October.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: It'll be early early October.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: They asked us to play there last year, but we couldn't make it for w for some reason, and I can't remember what it was.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: But they really want us to to So they're having um and I I I w I forget what it is.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Um, but they're having several bands.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: And they want us to be the entertainment in between the bands.
- 5:48SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: So there'll be like two or three 30-minute sets, but they want to pay us our full price.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: So I was like, Alright, I'll talk to Doug.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: I'm in.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: I'll let you know the date and we'll uh we'll come.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Actually, I think it's Bob's birthday.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, cool.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty sure it's Bob's birthday.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: My birthday, Bob Bob's birthday.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: So, um, but we'll talk about that when we uh finish the podcast.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Uh anything else pressing that I can think of?
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: No, not really.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: No.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Well, no, we'll talk about the r what's happening this weekend at later.
- 6:18SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 6:19SPEAKER_05: Um at a later time.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: Let's talk because I want to do that.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: I'm excited about that.
- 6:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: But before we do that, let's talk a couple of things here.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: June releases.
- 6:28SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Um we like to uh look at ultimate classicrock.com's uh list of new releases that are coming up in the month ahead.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: So the first one I have is coming out June 7th, and this kind of ties nicely into uh a song that I was gonna feature.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: I really gotta clean that uh couch off for you.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Okay Run for your life You know, I think the none of that stuff is precious, so it can fall.
- 7:00SPEAKER_05: It's totally saying I'm okay.
- 7:02SPEAKER_05: I think I think we're okay right now.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: If only people could see this hole that we live in right now.
- 7:08SPEAKER_05: Well, it's it's it's not a hole.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Well, it's just there's a lot of stuff.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: A lot of clutter.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: A lot of clutter.
- 7:15SPEAKER_05: I think it makes it homey.
- 7:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 7:17SPEAKER_05: So I like it.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, you know, I could get rid of half of this stuff and and and still be okay.
- 7:24SPEAKER_05: Well, i if we if we just started with cleaning off the couch, that would be a big Yeah, and I think I'll probably do that for you next time.
- 7:30SPEAKER_05: No, that's fine.
- 7:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 7:30SPEAKER_05: I mean I don't you know.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Actually, well, here's the thing.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: Here's my plan.
- 7:33SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: Um once school is out and I have free time, right?
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: I'm going to finish No, I'm going to begin cleaning the basement.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: And this studio will be rearranged again, but probably still stay like like the couch will stay where it is.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I like this.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so we can see each other and stuff like that.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: So that'll probably stay there, but I'm gonna do some other spritzing of the fun dungeon.
- 8:01SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 8:01SPEAKER_05: What are you reading?
- 8:02SPEAKER_05: Uh Teacher Performance Evaluation and Professional Growth Handbook.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, throw it away.
- 8:07SPEAKER_05: It's uh draft draft for pilot.
- 8:09SPEAKER_05: Are are you making it into a series?
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: Let me get back to this because opening scene.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: So Bon Jovi's new album, Forever, comes out June 7th.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Have you heard the brand new song?
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: No.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: Okay, we heard the song Legendary, right?
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:24SPEAKER_05: Which was it was great chorus.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: It was okay.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: But it was typical.
- 8:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: I feel the same about this new one.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: Typical or it's typical.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: It's it's cool, it's uh more of a rocker.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: They brought the talk box back.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: No.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: But I'm telling you, Doug, it's a formula.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: You know, we talked we talked about it's my life, have a nice day.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, a couple other songs that all sound like they have the same structure, same formula.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: This is no different.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: This is this is called uh living proof.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Uh and again, I do like the song, but you know how like he's he has this big chorus and then he stops and says the title of the song.
- 9:10SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 9:11SPEAKER_05: You know?
- 9:11SPEAKER_05: Well, that's it.
- 9:12SPEAKER_05: That's his new thing.
- 9:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, oh, oh.
- 9:19SPEAKER_05: Oh, there's Stark Box right there.
- 9:21SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 10:22SPEAKER_04: See?
- 10:23SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 10:23SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's not bad.
- 10:25SPEAKER_05: Not it's not good.
- 10:27SPEAKER_05: I mean, I've been like, yeah, that's really cool.
- 10:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_05: But same formula.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, it's it's the same structure.
- 10:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: It for the past, I'm gonna say, twenty five years.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: 25 years, yeah.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: You know, they've sounded the same.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: And it again, it's not bad.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: It's not good.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, well, that's good, I guess.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: It's not bad.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: It's just it's you want something else.
- 10:50SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:52SPEAKER_05: Um But this is it's my life.
- 10:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, basically.
- 10:58SPEAKER_05: You know?
- 10:58SPEAKER_05: You know, time, you know, take five.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: So while I'm happy that Bon Jovi has a new album coming out because people aren't really doing albums anymore, um, they have a new album coming out, and I do have sympathy for what John's going through with his vocal cords and everything, and the fact that he may not even tour again if if his voice doesn't recover.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Um, the fact that they were able to churn out an album uh with whatever help technologically that they had.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Um, I think it's cool.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: And and I'm glad he's still writing songs and he still has it.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Um it's just yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: I wanted something more.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Change it up, bro.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Change it up a little bit.
- 11:35SPEAKER_05: Just a tad.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: You know, I I suppose you have to kind of, you know, give somebody something more f that's that's familiar, you know, so that they they have a sound, you know.
- 11:45SPEAKER_05: Well, yeah, you want a you want a signature sound, but right it shouldn't sound the same all the time.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: You know, because I agree.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, like, New Jersey didn't sound like Slippery When Wet.
- 11:57SPEAKER_05: No.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: I mean they're both great albums.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: And uh Keep the Faith didn't sound like either of the other two.
- 12:02SPEAKER_05: No, yeah, they were completely.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: And then Crush comes out.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: Which didn't sound like anything like that.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Didn't sound like anything.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: And then everything after Crush.
- 12:15SPEAKER_05: Well it's like it's like, you know, they started here, they went up, they're going up, up, up, up, up, up, up, then they get crush, and then they plateau.
- 12:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: It's the same.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's been the same since.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Not that it's bad.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: It's good, it's quality stuff, but it's nothing different.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: So I mean, I'm one to it's like going to McDonald's.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: It's like this podcast.
- 12:36SPEAKER_05: You know what you're gonna get.
- 12:37SPEAKER_05: It's like this podcast.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: You know, it's nothing different.
- 12:39SPEAKER_05: No.
- 12:40SPEAKER_05: It's just you know, just two monkeys on a microphone.
- 12:43SPEAKER_05: Right, pretty much.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Uh also coming out June 7th, the Eels.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Eels time.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Who?
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: The Eels.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: Who are the Eels?
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: And it's a band.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: I haven't heard I haven't heard their music, but it's it's coming out.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, because I'm only sticking to like new things.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: I'm not I don't want to do reissues or greatest hits or lives or anything like that.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: So let's see.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: That's it for June 7th.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Because everything else is like a reissue.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, here's uh here's a new one coming out, June 14th.
- 13:09SPEAKER_05: Oh, is that Black Country Communion?
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: It is Black Country Communion.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: The album is five, or the Roman numeral V.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: Owen.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Now see, this doesn't sound like other black country communions.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, communion.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: Guys voice amazing.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:48SPEAKER_05: What's his name again?
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Glenn Hughes.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: Glenn Hughes.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, so you wonder who we're talking about, because these are this is a super group.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Super group, yeah, this is a super group.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: This has Glenn Hughes of uh Trap Peas and Deep Purple, um and a couple other bands.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: He's like 70-something years old.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, plays bass and stings his butt off.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: Listen to that.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: So that's Glenn Hughes on bass and vocals.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Joe Bonamassa, on guitar, John uh Jason Bonham on drums, yeah.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Derek Cherinian on keyboard.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: Pretty sure that's it, right?
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just the four guys.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, good stuff.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: Good stuff, man.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Uh so also coming out June 14th, uh new album from Mike Campbell of the of the um Heartbreakers.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, an album called Vagabonds, Virgins, and Misfits.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: Great title.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: I'm looking at that.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: That's the only original song, original albums that are coming out.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Everything else, I believe, is a reissue.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: John Cale from The Velvet Underground, Poptical Illusion.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: That might be.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Did you say Poptical?
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Poptical.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Lindsay Buckingham, 20th Century Lindsay.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: I'm assuming that's the greatest hits.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Probably.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm assuming.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: That's what it sounds like.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, let's see.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: So we move ahead to June 21st.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: Daryl Hall's new album is called D.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: Just the letter D.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: They must call him D.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Um.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: I was gonna play that Jarth O'Toll, but no, that's a reissue.

- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: Jerry Beckley.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Jerry Beckley.
- 15:55SPEAKER_11: Where I used to be crazy.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: From the band America.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Doesn't this sound like America?
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it does now, yeah.
- 16:04SPEAKER_11: Making it mainly.
- 16:07SPEAKER_11: Awesome luck that I have.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: His album is called Jerry Beckley.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: This must be his first solo.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: Probably.
- 16:15SPEAKER_11: Where your love shouldn't go.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Not bad.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: No, it's good.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: That's very America.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Stick to your strength.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Not that that's a bad thing.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: We need we need that kind of thing.
- 16:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we need that more of that.
- 16:31unknown: No matter what I do.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Waiting for the chorus.
- 16:35SPEAKER_11: And it's getting much harder.
- 16:47SPEAKER_06: It's very uh it's very 60s.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: Or actually early 70s.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, early 70s.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: But it's good.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: It's good to hear.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: It's a good sound.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: That's uh that's a very missed sound, I think, on the uh coming out of the speakers these days.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: Uh Deep Purple, we already talked about Deep Purple, have a new album coming out called Equals One that comes out in July sometime.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Uh and David Gilmore's Luck and Strange.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: Those are the only new releases coming out for the month of June.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Well good.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Um all right.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: So before we before we if we we may not even talk about this one, but I because I wanna I wanna see what you got there.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: What is what is this little uh this little box I have?
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: This little black box, well, gray box.
- 17:40SPEAKER_05: Well it's kind of orangey bread.
- 17:42SPEAKER_05: It looks like a Maxwell tape.
- 17:44SPEAKER_05: It does, actually.
- 17:45SPEAKER_05: Doesn't it?
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 17:45SPEAKER_05: Like remember.
- 17:46SPEAKER_05: I bet you that's on purpose.
- 17:47SPEAKER_05: When you yeah, I bet it is.
- 17:48SPEAKER_05: Because uh it's got like it's got Maxwell, actually.
- 17:51SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 17:52SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 17:52SPEAKER_05: You know.
- 17:53SPEAKER_05: Uh yeah, this is how you used to buy uh Okay, kids, history moment.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: Cassettes.
- 17:58SPEAKER_05: When you when you when you wanted to make a mix tape, uh you had to buy like a you know, they came in packs of like four or five.
- 18:05SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 18:05SPEAKER_05: This is what they look like.
- 18:07SPEAKER_05: So I you know, I have no life.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: You know, that's how I used to uh uh kind of um woo my wife before she was my wife.
- 18:16SPEAKER_05: Oh we've we've all done that.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: When she was when she was away at college.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: Well not woo your wife, right?
- 18:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I remember when I was trying to woo your wife, I made her a mixtape.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: When she was away at college and we were finally dating, um I used to make her like mixtapes and mail them to her.
- 18:36SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 18:37SPEAKER_05: Well that's what we did back in the right in the olden days.
- 18:40SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 18:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean that's how we communicated by mail and tape.
- 18:43SPEAKER_05: Right, it's true.
- 18:44SPEAKER_05: Mail and tape.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Mail and tape.
- 18:46SPEAKER_05: There's a song or an album in there somewhere.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Mail and tape.
- 18:51SPEAKER_05: But anyway, I digress.
- 18:53SPEAKER_05: So anyway, because I have no life, I spend a lot of time just doom scrolling.
- 18:58SPEAKER_05: And I came across an album.
- 19:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 19:03SPEAKER_05: There we go.
- 19:04SPEAKER_05: So uh so I came across this game.
- 19:08SPEAKER_05: It's called Mixtape.
- 19:10SPEAKER_05: The song and scenario card game.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: That's right up my right up my alley.
- 19:14SPEAKER_05: Oh, I know, yeah.
- 19:15SPEAKER_05: And the directions are very simple.
- 19:16SPEAKER_05: They're right here in the box, which is how to play.
- 19:19SPEAKER_05: Pull and read scenario cards from the deck.
- 19:21SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 19:22SPEAKER_05: Each player chooses and plays a song.
- 19:26SPEAKER_05: We won we won't do the play part, but why not?
- 19:29SPEAKER_05: Well, we can.
- 19:30SPEAKER_05: Just we can't.
- 19:31SPEAKER_05: We get we'd have to do it for cousin Larry.
- 19:33SPEAKER_05: Uh by the way, cousin Larry is playing with us.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, this is awesome.
- 19:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 19:36SPEAKER_05: Uh the group votes which song was the best.
- 19:40SPEAKER_05: I did not do that.
- 19:41SPEAKER_05: I got an outsider to judge.
- 19:45SPEAKER_05: Oh, so we have to pick a song?
- 19:47SPEAKER_05: We you have to pick a song based on the on the scenario or question on the card.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 19:52SPEAKER_05: Okay?
- 19:53SPEAKER_05: And then an outside person that listens to the podcast is going to judge which one's the best.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: And we can't pick the same song.
- 20:00SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 20:01SPEAKER_05: You know, if you if you want to.
- 20:02SPEAKER_05: I mean, if you end up picking the same song, I mean I suppose, but you know.
- 20:08SPEAKER_05: And then a point is a word of the winner.
- 20:10SPEAKER_05: So I don't know.
- 20:10SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 20:11SPEAKER_05: You know.
- 20:11SPEAKER_05: But that's anyway, that's it's very simple.
- 20:13SPEAKER_05: Very simple how to play.
- 20:14SPEAKER_05: So to involve cousin Larry, I had to I had to pick a card early.
- 20:19SPEAKER_05: Okay, and that's fine.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: And I and I messaged him and he So wait, does this mean you get an advantage?
- 20:24SPEAKER_05: Well, that just this time because I think because what we're gonna do for next if we want to continue this, yeah.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: Will that work?
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think so.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: Wait, I want to get you some music here.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: I want to get like some some sort of uh instrumental you know, something so that we can I don't know what um what it's gonna be.
- 20:52SPEAKER_05: Well, it can be anything at this point, because it the game is mixed tape.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: The game is mixtape.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Well, I was gonna make an instrument.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know what?
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: I got some sash.
- 20:59SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, put some satch on.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: That always on it.
- 21:01SPEAKER_05: That always works.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: So just bear with me for a second.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 21:07SPEAKER_05: Um by the way, I had two random thoughts on my way up here, okay?
- 21:13SPEAKER_05: Uh one's more of a theory, okay, and one was just a random thought that we're gonna be.
- 21:19SPEAKER_05: I saw something and it came right.
- 21:21SPEAKER_05: So I don't know why.
- 21:23SPEAKER_05: I don't see if this is women on social media when they're single post a ton crap of selfies.
- 21:36SPEAKER_05: When they're in a relationship they don't.
- 21:39SPEAKER_05: Have you noticed that?
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: I I I guess I don't.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: Um I guess it's just it's just a theory.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: I guess I'm I'm not on social media that much.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: I mean I am, but I'm not looking at I just find it interesting.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean I suppose that makes sense, right?
- 21:58SPEAKER_05: That's just a theory I was having.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Thought number two, swing sets are awesome.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:05SPEAKER_05: Because I remember when I was a kid, right?
- 22:07SPEAKER_05: We had a you know, we had a swing set, and I was driving, you know, on my way here, I was uh I was driving by a house and they had one of those old school swing sets in the back in the back yard.
- 22:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:17SPEAKER_05: I was like, man, I remember my you know my swing set and it was fun, man.
- 22:21SPEAKER_05: It was awesome.
- 22:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:22SPEAKER_05: Had the swings and it had that had that double one where you it was like a seesaw.
- 22:28SPEAKER_05: You remember that?
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do.
- 22:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:30SPEAKER_05: I don't know what it was actually called, but it was awesome.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: There.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: I got some music.
- 22:36SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 22:36SPEAKER_05: So anyway, so are you ready to play?
- 22:39SPEAKER_05: I am ready to play.
- 22:40SPEAKER_05: Okay, cousin Larry's already he's already answered.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: So he's already been asked this question.
- 22:44SPEAKER_05: He's already been asked this question, so I'm gonna give you first crack at it before I answer, okay?
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: Okay, so the person that's judging this, do they know Larry's answer?
- 22:54SPEAKER_05: No.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 22:55SPEAKER_05: They're gonna hear it now.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, they're gonna hear it now.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:57SPEAKER_05: So when the podcrap.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: The podcrap?
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Ooh, I like that.
- 23:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's the name of the episode.
- 23:01SPEAKER_05: This is podcrap.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Podcrap.
- 23:03SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 23:03SPEAKER_05: Uh so when this drops on Thursday, they're going to listen to the episode and then judge from there.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, do I get to know who the outside person is?
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: No.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 23:12unknown: All right.
- 23:13SPEAKER_05: Like I said, it's an outside person.
- 23:14SPEAKER_05: They're not related to any of us.
- 23:16SPEAKER_05: That works.
- 23:16SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 23:16SPEAKER_04: So it's Chris Morton.
- 23:18SPEAKER_05: No.
- 23:19SPEAKER_05: It is not.
- 23:20SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 23:22SPEAKER_05: So, are you ready for the question?
- 23:23SPEAKER_05: I'm ready for the question.
- 23:24SPEAKER_05: This is the question.
- 23:25SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 23:25SPEAKER_05: For this this time.
- 23:27SPEAKER_05: For the inaugural round of mixtape.
- 23:29SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 23:30SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 23:31SPEAKER_05: You find yourself on a mega yacht all by yourself.
- 23:36SPEAKER_05: The sun starts to set.
- 23:39SPEAKER_05: What song plays?
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Uh do I get to say it?
- 23:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 23:46SPEAKER_05: Well, I mean, otherwise we're gonna.
- 23:48SPEAKER_05: Can I play the song?
- 23:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, go ahead and play.
- 23:49SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Because I can tell you right now what I what I um if I have it in here.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: I think I do.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: Actually, that would probably be in here.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: I think it would anyway.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: Let me go here.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know exactly what song I would.
- 24:18SPEAKER_05: Okay, while you're doing that, I'm gonna read Cousin Larry's answer.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: Okay, wait, wait, I don't wanna.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Wait, don't do it yet.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: Because I want to.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, so say the say the scenario again.
- 24:31SPEAKER_05: Well, I just I put the card back in the back.
- 24:33SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 24:34SPEAKER_05: So uh the sun is you're on a mega yacht by yourself and the sun starts to set.
- 24:38SPEAKER_05: What song is playing?
- 24:42SPEAKER_05: Southern cross?
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:43SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: That's what I would.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:48SPEAKER_05: Go ahead.
- 24:48SPEAKER_05: Awesome.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Do you want me to let it play while you're doing it?
- 24:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, let it play while I'm doing it.
- 24:52SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 24:52SPEAKER_05: And then then you can play mine.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:54SPEAKER_05: Okay, so this is this is Cousin Larry's.
- 24:57SPEAKER_05: Uh let's see.
- 24:59SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 25:02SPEAKER_05: Uh right there.
- 25:05SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 25:07SPEAKER_05: Very first song I thought of was Cool Change by Little Reber Band.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, hold on.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: That's a great song, too.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, and you know what?
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: That almost fits better.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: I shouldn't say that because that's kind of skewing it.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: Well, it's too late.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: Cousin Larry, are you picking it?
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: So hold on, let me get uh there.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: Because it's the sun is setting, yeah.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: Isn't that a great pick?
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: That's a great pick.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, wait, hold on.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Just a little kick for a second.
- 25:41unknown: If there's one thing in my life that's missing.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: All alone on a yacht, some of the settings.
- 25:49SPEAKER_11: Sailing on the Larry Lambert Clear.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: I'm screwing it for myself.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: I think that's a great that's a better pick.
- 26:01SPEAKER_14: Showing me ways to go.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Do you want the chorus to go?
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: Let's let the chorus go.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: Because he only he sings the chorus by himself first.
- 26:20SPEAKER_11: I know that it's time for a cool change.
- 26:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 26:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 26:26SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 26:27SPEAKER_05: Just like that, man.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: Just like that.
- 26:28SPEAKER_05: Okay, so yours was Southern Cross, Southern Cross.
- 26:32SPEAKER_05: Crosby Sills and Nash.
- 26:34unknown: Yep.
- 26:35SPEAKER_05: Cousin Larry.
- 26:36SPEAKER_05: He uh cool change by a little river band.
- 26:39SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 26:39SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 26:40SPEAKER_05: My choice Christopher Cross, sailing.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: Now wait a minute.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: I think you won.
- 26:47SPEAKER_05: No, no, no, no.
- 26:48SPEAKER_05: It's not up to me.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: It's up to the judge.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: I know, but the judge may have a completely different.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: I think I jumped a gun.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Um wait, no, I do have it in here.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: Where is it?
- 27:01unknown: Oh man, I don't know.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: I do have it, but I just don't know where it is.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: Hold on a second.
- 27:07SPEAKER_05: I do have it, I just don't know where it is.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:09SPEAKER_05: That's the story of my life.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: I have it.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: I don't know where it is, but I have it.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: I I think, you know, I suck at this.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: Fairly.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: I I it was a it was a split second.
- 27:22SPEAKER_05: Well, you you you didn't have as much time to think about it either.
- 27:25SPEAKER_05: You're right.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: So is it wasn't really So hopefully the next time we do this.
- 27:30SPEAKER_05: Well, that's what I'm saying.
- 27:30SPEAKER_05: I just wanted to get this off the ground so we figured out how to play it.
- 27:33SPEAKER_05: I do think, yeah.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: I do think you win.
- 27:35SPEAKER_05: No, I don't think so.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: I think Cousin Larry's was pretty great.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: Well, Cousin Larry's was great, but I think you win.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: If I had to pick, if I was the judge, I'm skewing it now.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: I'm screwing, I'm screwing it up.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: It would be this one.
- 27:47SPEAKER_05: I as soon as I read the question, I was like, this is the song.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: This is it.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: This is the one.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: This is the one.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: I got goosebumps now.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: I'm picturing myself on a yacht all by myself at the sunsetting.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: Song comes on.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 28:10SPEAKER_07: But it's not fun to paradise.
- 28:17SPEAKER_07: The wind is right to sail away.
- 28:23SPEAKER_07: Oh the kids can do mirror.
- 28:27SPEAKER_07: Just do it and see me.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna let it play a little bit till the chorus comes.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: Dude.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: Dude.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: Doesn't that bang?
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that ankle change.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Um Yeah, if I'd have had more time.
- 29:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 29:19SPEAKER_05: No, it wasn't, you know, like I said, this wasn't uh completely fair, cause, you know, like I said, I I just did this last night.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:29SPEAKER_05: And so I've had, you know, time to think about it.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: But you, yeah, you win.
- 29:33SPEAKER_05: I don't I don't think well again, it's not up to me.
- 29:35SPEAKER_05: But uh I just that was the first thing that came to my head when I saw the questions.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: No, and I and I and I get that.
- 29:42SPEAKER_05: Okay, so Judge, you have Cousin Larry's choice of Cool Change by a little river band, you have Brian's choice of Southern Cross by Cosby Still Snash, and my choice sailing by Christopher Cross.
- 29:58SPEAKER_05: So it's all up to the judge now.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 30:01SPEAKER_05: And we'll find out.
- 30:02SPEAKER_05: I'll find out over when uh whenever they you know, it'll be Thursday, night or Friday when they pick.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: So we'll reveal the winner the next week.
- 30:11SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 30:12SPEAKER_05: Okay, so for the next week, are you ready?
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, you're gonna ask me the question now?
- 30:16SPEAKER_05: We're gonna do it with all be on the same page.
- 30:19SPEAKER_05: We got all the same amount of time.
- 30:20SPEAKER_05: Okay, yeah, that works.
- 30:21SPEAKER_05: Okay, and we won't.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: So cousin Larry's gonna hear this too, obviously.
- 30:23SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 30:24SPEAKER_05: So we're all hearing it at the same time.
- 30:26SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 30:26SPEAKER_05: Okay, so are you ready?
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Uh hold on, let me get you some some music here.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: Just because you know, I wanna we wanna make it official, you know.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see, how about this one?
- 30:38SPEAKER_05: That works.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 30:40SPEAKER_05: Okay, here we go.
- 30:41SPEAKER_05: So for the next podcast, here's the question.
- 30:45SPEAKER_05: Ooh, this is a good one.
- 30:47SPEAKER_05: If you had but one Motown song to listen to while stranded on a desert island, what would it be?
- 30:57SPEAKER_12: Wow.
- 30:58SPEAKER_05: That's just one.
- 31:03SPEAKER_05: Just one.
- 31:05SPEAKER_05: So again, the question is if you had but one Motown song to listen to while stranded on a d on a d desert island, what would it be?
- 31:16SPEAKER_05: So that'll be the question for next.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: That's tough.
- 31:19SPEAKER_05: I know, right?
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: This is a great game.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: This is an awesome game.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:25SPEAKER_05: So that'll be so that'll be for next week.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: One Motown song.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: If you were stranded on a desert song.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 31:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: Bring it, Larry.
- 31:38SPEAKER_12: See what you got, man.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: It's interesting because I did have one other thing to talk about today, and a lot of the we have a couple other things to talk about today, and a lot of the things that I wanted to talk about were in our choices for that first question.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, well, there you go.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Um, because, and I'll tell you why, because um there's an article on Ultimate Classic Rock about Randy Bachman and his first band, the Guess Who.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: First uh signed band, I guess, the Guess Who's.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: He's Canadian.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Uh the band is Canadian.
- 32:12SPEAKER_05: We don't hold that against him.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: Right, they don't.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Um it's okay, eh?
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: Of course, he uh and you know the guess who.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: Hold on, let me uh because I've got I've got the technology right here.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: Um The Guess Who had uh m massive uh success in the 60s.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: Um do I have the guess who in here?
- 32:33SPEAKER_05: I don't know, do you?
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: I don't.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: Oh crap.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: I have it, but I don't know where it is.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: I have it, but I don't know where it is.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: Guess who knows?
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: The guess who, sorry.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: The guess who.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: So this is this is one of their biggest.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Uh you would recognize this one.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Uh no, that's a commercial.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: Um anyway, uh, he started a band in the 60s and wrote and played guitar for said band.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: And they had massive hits.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, so Burton Cummings is the lead singer.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: And he's in a battle right now right now because the reason I bring it up also because Little we were just talking about Little River Band, right?
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Cool change.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: Same thing is happening, sort of, to Little River Band.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: To a degree um foreigner.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, and and actually it happens a lot.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: There's either one or no original members left in the band.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: At which point you would think it becomes a tribute band.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: We've talked about this a little bit before.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: But uh Burton Cummings did something bold uh and actually kind of is not in his best interest, but he did it on principle.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: So here's here's what's happening.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: So according to the article, um, they of course Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, they they they wrote a lot of hits.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: No time.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: American Woman.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: You know the song American Woman.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: Um Bachman left in 1970 to form Bachman Turner Overdrive, and then the Guess Who split up in 1975.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: Now they've they've gotten together and they have done Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman have done like some Guess Who reunion shows here and there over the years.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Uh original bassist Jim Cale obtained the rights to the name and was soon joined by fellow co-founder Gary Peterson on drums.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: Well, Kale retired in 2016.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: Uh and so Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings uh filed a lawsuit last year.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: Uh Peterson doesn't appear at every guess who concert.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: So the one remaining original member doesn't even go to the shows.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: On every every every show.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Um, leaving the lineup without any core members.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: Uh at the same time, Bachman and Cummings said some of the group's promotional material featured their images.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: So it's like a picture of Randy Bachman, like you're playing here.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: And they found this out on social media and on YouTube because their their fans would should like take pictures of them with their phone of the posters and everything, the promotional materials, with their phones, and they'd send them to Randy Bachman.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: And it it's Randy Bachman's face, and he's like, I'm not playing there.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: But they're using it to promote the guess who.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: And so uh they uh Burton Cummings took took took legal action um and it was pretty unprecedented, actually.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: He terminated the rights agreements to all the guess who songs that he was a part of.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: Um so that band, the guess who that's out touring, can't play any guess who songs because um they're forced to cancel a string of scheduled concerts.
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: Uh if if he hadn't done that, they would have been able to continue on.
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: Um and I mentioned the Little River Band.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, of course, doing that, he's he's cutting off a source of income.
- 36:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: You know, by by so even if he performs those songs, I mean he wrote them, even if he performs them, he can't make money from performance rights.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: On those songs because he stopped the performance rights agreement agreement.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: And so um Little River Band.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see, uh Positive Impact on Bands and similar situations, like Little River Band.
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: So uh I'm trying to scam uh not scam.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Uh skim here.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: Graham Gobel, Glenn Sherrock, and Beebe Bertles co-founded Little River Band in the mid-70s, but eventually drifted out of its lineup, then lost control of the trademark.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: They can't even play as Little River Band, and that's totally unfair, Randy Bachman says.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: Little River Band is now led by Wayne Nelson, who joined in time to sing on Little River Band's early 80s hits, The Nine Owls, Take It Easy On Me, and uh so on and so forth.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: Um so the two original members, they can't go out as Little River Band.
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: They have to change their name to Sharon Bertles and Goebbels.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Sorry, three original members.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: Um so and he doesn't even think Lenny Kravitz, because Burton Cummings did that, he doesn't think Lenny Kravitz can perform American Woman anymore.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: Because the performance rights agreement is right is null.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Uh but he wanted Burton Cummings wanted to stop them from using the name Guess Who?
- 38:00SPEAKER_05: The gu the guess who kind of the nuclear option, but it worked.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: And when it's talking about foreigner, um, foreigner, although the members of that band now have been foreigner for like twenty-five years, something like that.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Jeff Pilson and all this.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: Mick Jones doesn't, he's the only original member, and he doesn't perform at every concert.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: Right because of his health.
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: So essentially, even though they've been around for 25 years, they're a tribute band.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: Basically, I mean they have they have an uh an album that they put out as a as a band, one album.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: But I don't think they play much of it.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: They play the hits.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: So I just think it's interesting, and then the KISS retired, right?
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: And the KISS is talking about having uh their legacy go on with what is it?
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't know, it's not AI, but uh holograms.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: Holograms, yeah, holograms.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: So, I mean I just what do you think about that?
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's it's a interesting that was a pretty you know, bold move for Burton Cummings to take.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: Uh cut off his own income just so he can stop this band.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's pretty drastic.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:14SPEAKER_01: So what's your take on that?
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, do you do you have anything?
- 39:18SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 39:19SPEAKER_05: What do you what are you gonna do?
- 39:20SPEAKER_05: You know?
- 39:21SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 39:21SPEAKER_05: It's like, hey, you're you're trying to make money off of my case.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:26SPEAKER_05: And I'm not even part of it, so you know, screw you guys.
- 39:30SPEAKER_05: Wouldn't he though?
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: Wouldn't he be like like if he's 'cause he's maybe maybe when he got done with the band, maybe he gave up his rights to the band.
- 39:40SPEAKER_05: Like I doubt that.
- 39:42SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, like when uh when they got back together with Mike Anthony and Sammy Hagar in 2004, Van Halen.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: Uh they made Mike Anthony sign away all of his rights to the the name and and and the the stuff that he did with the band.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: Like it like he never happened.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: You know, and he did it just because he wanted to go back out.
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: I just I it's such a kind of a dirty business.
- 40:08SPEAKER_05: Well it's a dick move, but yeah.
- 40:10SPEAKER_05: I I don't know.
- 40:11SPEAKER_05: I mean, you know.
- 40:13SPEAKER_05: I mean if if that's what you gotta do, I suppose.
- 40:17SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 40:18SPEAKER_05: He's what seventies I think?
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: Which one?
- 40:21SPEAKER_05: Uh Randy Department.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's he's yeah, he's in the seven.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:28SPEAKER_05: It's it's the musical equivalent of get off my lawn.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:32SPEAKER_05: You're probably right.
- 40:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: So speaking of foreigner, foreigners coming to Bangor.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: And this is kind of a just a neat little side note.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: So the woman that I replace as chorus director at my high school, her name is Molly.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: She now teaches the chorus down in in Hampton at Hampton Academy.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: Her chorus is going to be singing with Foreigner.
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: I Wanna Know What Love Is.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: On stage.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: That's cool.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: It's pretty cool.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: And it was kind of a I guess it was a on a whim, you know, somebody had shown her uh thing online that said uh, you know, submit.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: You know, if you want to be, if there's any choruses around that want to be part of this, submit and we'll choose.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: And they chose her chorus.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: She did it, she did it just kind of like as a as a goof, as like a last minute.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, why not?
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 41:26SPEAKER_05: And uh look, hey, yeah.
- 41:27SPEAKER_05: You get to play with foreigner, man.
- 41:29SPEAKER_05: That's pretty cool.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: That is cool.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: Even if it's just that one song.
- 41:31SPEAKER_05: It's pretty, it's pretty cool.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: And they told her, it's interesting, they told her, you know, you don't need we don't need parts or anything like that.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: We're just gonna sing in unison, sing the chorus in unison.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: She said, No, we're gonna do parts.
- 41:45SPEAKER_05: So there's harmony, and there's all yeah, all that stuff.
- 41:49SPEAKER_01: So that's yeah, I I I hope there's a video of it at some point.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: I'm sure somebody will.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm sure there will be, yeah.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: Because yeah, that'll be pretty cool to see.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: That's big.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: That'll be pretty cool to see.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: Well, good for them.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm I'm pretty I'm pretty pumped for her.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: Let's do this.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: Um because it's our Michael McDonald momentar.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: I was reading an article.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: Actually, let me back up because yes, you're the ball!
- 42:23SPEAKER_04: It is in my hand presently.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: Holding it in your hands.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: The brand new memoir from our man Michael McDonald, What a Fool Believes, with Paul Riser.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: Um now, the interesting thing about this is you pre-ordered this and it was set to arrive the 31st.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, when was it set to arrive?
- 42:41SPEAKER_01: Today.
- 42:42SPEAKER_01: Today?
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: It was released on the 21st, right?
- 42:46SPEAKER_05: 21st.
- 42:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: Which is yesterday.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Yesterday.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: And it was set to arrive today.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: So I was at Allstate last week.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: I happened to go to uh BAM, Books a Million, and took a picture of it because I don't know how long it had been there, but it was in the store.
- 43:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I can't figure that out.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: I because it was like before the release date.
- 43:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 43:07SPEAKER_01: So obviously somebody wasn't paying attention.
- 43:09SPEAKER_05: What the heck, Bam?
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: Um because they put it out before it was supposed to be released.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: I didn't buy it.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: I was going to, but you know, I had bull moves to buy.
- 43:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, priorities, man.
- 43:21SPEAKER_05: Priorities.
- 43:22SPEAKER_05: Priorities.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: So uh, yeah, and you haven't read it yet?
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: I have read it.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: You just got it today.
- 43:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I literally just before I came up here, I took it out of the packaging.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: So um there is an article on Ultimate Classic Rock.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: Um, and it's called Michael McDonald Still Expects Imposter Police at any moment.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: And what that means is he's 72, by the way.
- 43:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:48SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you knew that or not.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: Um he said he didn't like the title of the of the book.
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: You know, they they had suggested he called it.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Was it What a Fool Believes?
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Is that what it is?
- 44:04SPEAKER_05: What the title of the book?
- 44:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the title of the book.
- 44:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, What a Fool Believes.
- 44:06SPEAKER_05: What a Fool Believes.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: He didn't want to do that.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: He wanted it to be something clever and mind provoking, he said.
- 44:13SPEAKER_01: But he couldn't really think of anything.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: Well, I couldn't really think of anything because you know I have a problem provoking my own mind.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: So they decided to call it uh What a Fool Believes.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: He said, let's see, about Yacht Rock.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: Because he is basically the king, the face of Yacht Rock.
- 44:33SPEAKER_01: He's the admiral of the yacht.
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: He hated it.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: He did not like the term Yacht Rock.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: Saying it was, he said, let's see.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: He was oh, and the oldies radio.
- 44:45SPEAKER_01: He was ambivalent about both at first.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: Turned out to be the two best things that ever happened to everybody from the 70s because they get all of this airplay.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: And it's true.
- 44:56SPEAKER_05: It is really true.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: If we didn't have not Yacht Rock, you probably wouldn't hear a lot of Michael McDonald.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: No.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: And Paul Riser said he had been surprised at some of the stories of rock and roll excess that McDonald had kept to himself over the years.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: Because Paul Riser and Michael McDonald have been friends for a while.
- 45:13SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Referring to a Steely Dan party in a hotel penthouse in London.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: Riser recalled, I'm going, that's like a Fellini movie.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: So I can't wait to read that book.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know, right?
- 45:25SPEAKER_01: Salacious.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: Um he revealed why he's usually seen with his eyes closed while performing.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: He said singing is such an intimate act.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: It's like kissing.
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: It does real no good to see what the other person is doing.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: True.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: I can see that.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Um see what it did there.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: He said on his feelings about putting his memoir Memories Down on Paper.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: That's where the title comes from.
- 45:48SPEAKER_01: To this day, I keep expecting the doors to fly open and the imposter police to come and grab me and take me out.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: Basically a pinch me moment.
- 45:57SPEAKER_01: I can't believe this all happened to me.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: So I'm excited.
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: I you're probably reading like three books at the same time right now, aren't you?
- 46:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I always do, but this one's gonna take precedence.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: It is, okay.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: So you're gonna read it pretty c pretty soon.
- 46:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna put down the uh JFK assassination book I'm currently reading and pick this one up.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah So yeah, I I'd love to Thundercat Thundercat?
- 46:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 46:22SPEAKER_05: Apparently they had some it it's praise.
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: Thundercat Newman?
- 46:26SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 46:27SPEAKER_05: It just says Thundercat.
- 46:29SPEAKER_05: Michael is the type of artist you were lucky to have in your lifetime.
- 46:32SPEAKER_05: His voice has been one of the biggest inspirations in my development as a songwriter and singer.
- 46:37SPEAKER_05: A very sweet and awesome person, the most dubious of brothers.
- 46:42SPEAKER_05: It makes my day better knowing that somewhere in the world Michael McDonald is pondering what comes next.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: Uh Stephen Lee Bruner.
- 46:50SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: He's a bass guitarist.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: Better known for his Day Dame Thundercats, uh record producer, songwriter in LA.
- 46:59SPEAKER_05: Jeff Bridges?
- 47:01SPEAKER_05: He did.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: Jeff Bridges is a musician too, yeah.
- 47:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah, well, he's he has one here.
- 47:05SPEAKER_05: He says working with Michael McDonald on my first album, be here soon, was a dream come true.
- 47:10SPEAKER_05: Not only did Michael bring his talent, creativity, and soul to our project, but his love and generosity of spirit were limited.
- 47:18SPEAKER_05: He's a wonderful friend, an incredible musician, and a beautiful human being.
- 47:23SPEAKER_05: That's high braise.
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah?
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: So you're gonna let me borrow that after you're done?
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: No.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: Of course I am.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: Um, so we're excited about that.
- 47:34SPEAKER_05: I wonder if it's an autograph.
- 47:35SPEAKER_05: That'd be cool.
- 47:36SPEAKER_05: No, I know.
- 47:40SPEAKER_05: Um, thanks for buying my book.
- 47:44SPEAKER_05: Mike.
- 47:46SPEAKER_01: Alright, why don't you say okay, we're gonna go to break here in a second, and then we're gonna climb the wall of tunes, but but uh before I do, what do you think of this?
- 47:58SPEAKER_05: I like that.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah?
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: Can you see it?
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: Well, I can't see it now.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: So here's my here's my question though, because she she had a couple different options.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: This is uh what we're looking at is a new design for a Star City Syndicate t-shirt.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: So, um, she had this on the front.
- 48:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:15SPEAKER_01: That's one design.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: Or one option.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: Just on the front of a t-shirt, you know, like that.
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: Or you could do it on the back.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: Uh okay, so that's the back.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: And then the front would be, which is the style these days, would be this.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: You like it on the front.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: I like it on the front.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: You like the the the whole thing on the front.
- 48:39SPEAKER_05: I like the whole thing on the front.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: I like this one right here.
- 48:42unknown: Okay.
- 48:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I like that.
- 48:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: That's what we'll go with.
- 48:45SPEAKER_05: We'll s we'll I want mine to say combat tambourine on the back.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: I'll get a sharpie.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: Thanks, me.
- 48:54SPEAKER_01: We'll take care of that for you.
- 48:55SPEAKER_01: Yay! Um, um, maybe we'll send that to to Morton and see what he thinks.
- 48:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: Uh, or just or just make one and walk in.
- 49:04SPEAKER_05: Hey, what do you think of the new sharp, man?
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: Maybe I will.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: What?
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 49:07SPEAKER_01: We'll figure we'll figure it out.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: Oh, well, we do have skinny Elvis practice tomorrow night, so.
- 49:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's true.
- 49:12SPEAKER_01: I forgot about that.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: I gotta learn all those songs.
- 49:16SPEAKER_05: You better get to working.
- 49:17SPEAKER_05: Have you been working on those songs?
- 49:18SPEAKER_05: Of course, man.
- 49:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 49:20SPEAKER_05: I have to, because I'm the suckiest one of the group.
- 49:22SPEAKER_05: I have to work harder.
- 49:23SPEAKER_01: I don't know about that.
- 49:24SPEAKER_05: I have to work harder.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: I don't know about that.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: All right, we're gonna take a break and we're gonna do a special uh climbing the wall of tunes.

- 51:06SPEAKER_01: Uh we're going to see one of our favorite uh singer-songwriters.
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: John Hyatt.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: Um bonus.
- 51:20SPEAKER_05: We're gonna see it with Bob.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: We're gonna see it with Bob.
- 51:24SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: Um so I'm just gonna play play this in the background while we talk about it.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: So let's see, how did we let's the history, our our history with John Hyatt.
- 51:38SPEAKER_01: Well, it starts with you.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, have we already done this?
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: We haven't done it.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 51:42SPEAKER_01: We're gonna we're gonna do it again.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: So yeah, we did this a little bit because um we were big into like uh Roots Rock in the 90s.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: We were like Hootie and the Blowfish and Toledo Wet Sprocket and Big Head Todd.
- 51:57SPEAKER_01: And there was uh we were watching Summer Camp with Trucks, uh, which incidentally Hootie and the Blowfish is on tour this summer with another summer camp with trucks.
- 52:05SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: Um but we were watching there's a video, like a documentary with Hootie, and they're getting dressed or something, and Darius starts singing this song, uh, Buffalo River Home.
- 52:19SPEAKER_01: And uh was somebody said he was messing it up, and blah blah blah.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: And we said John Hyatt didn't write it that way.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: And so I was like, John Hyatt, John Hyatt, what's that?
- 52:28SPEAKER_01: And then come to find out, their debut album, Cracked Review, comes from a John Hyatt song.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: Did you know that?
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: You knew that.
- 52:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: Um, song uh from his Bring the Family album.
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: Um and so I just kind of looked up John Hyatt, and I'm not gonna lie to you, his voice took a while to get used to.
- 52:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's it's definitely unique.
- 52:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a unique voice.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: Um, but his writing is so unique and so just different from everybody.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: And I really, really dug his stuff.
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: Matter of fact, I I uh went on my honeymoon and bought an album in Canada when it came out, and that was this one that we're gonna talk about today, which is Little Head.
- 53:15SPEAKER_01: So I got into Hyatt, and then I guess you kind of got into Hyatt because Well, because you were constantly playing Hyatt.
- 53:23SPEAKER_05: Right, you couldn't help it.
- 53:25SPEAKER_05: Every time I w every time we were over, it was like, hey, listen to this.
- 53:28SPEAKER_05: And it was another Hyatt song, and eventually it just like you soaked it in.
- 53:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 53:33SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 53:34SPEAKER_05: Then you were like, oh man, I love this guy.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: And and my writing kind of leaned that way too.
- 53:39SPEAKER_01: You know, I just kind of it's not that I was copying him, but I loved his stuff and love his stuff so much that my writing kind of started to lean that way.
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: And um, I don't know how to explain it.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: I just I I love his stuff.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: So we're going to see him and Booth Bay Harbor.
- 53:57SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: Um this uh this coming Friday night.
- 54:00SPEAKER_01: Staying with I'm staying with Well, we're going with Bob.
- 54:03SPEAKER_01: I'm staying the night, you're coming back, which is crazy to me.
- 54:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's gonna suck.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: It is going to suck, but but this uh venue that we're going to.
- 54:13SPEAKER_05: Oh, it looks gorgeous.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it looks gorgeous, but I think there's only 200, 250.
- 54:18SPEAKER_01: That's even better.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: I know, that's what I'm saying.
- 54:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: Uh and I'm gonna bring my one of my uh vinyls, my vinyl records, and and if we get a chance to meet him, then I'm gonna have him sign them and stuff like that.
- 54:28SPEAKER_01: I'm excited about it.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: Um But I wanted to I so I did climb the wall.
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: This album, Little Head, gets a lot of I'm in a John Hyatt group on Facebook.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: And it doesn't get a lot of love.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: It came out in I think it was ninety seven.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: Was it uh yep, ninety seven, which was the year I got married, obviously.
- 54:48SPEAKER_05: So Wow that that that that's how you remember your anniversary.
- 54:51SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 54:53SPEAKER_04: Hey, honey, how long have we been married?
- 54:56SPEAKER_04: When did that John Hyatt out?
- 54:58SPEAKER_04: When did Little Head come out?
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: And um so even they there's a podcast out there uh about John Hyatt where where they go through every John Hyatt song alphabetically and they talk about uh they talk about it.
- 55:11SPEAKER_05: There's a podcast?
- 55:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 55:13SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: It's not a great one.
- 55:14SPEAKER_01: I l I I listen to it.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, I mean it's uh it's okay.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: It's okay.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: Um but they don't like this album very much.
- 55:20SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 55:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: And uh it doesn't get a lot of love.
- 55:24SPEAKER_01: Matter of fact, it gets a lot of um um I'm not gonna say hate, but negative reaction.
- 55:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 55:32SPEAKER_01: Like he was in a weird place for this album or something like that.
- 55:35SPEAKER_01: I love this album.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: Absolutely love this album.
- 55:39SPEAKER_01: And and I don't know why.
- 55:40SPEAKER_01: It is different to a certain degree.
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: Um but I'm gonna play a little bit of it.
- 55:47SPEAKER_01: And yes, the uh title track is what about what you think it's about.
- 55:53SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 55:53SPEAKER_09: It is it is a uh Hendrix as a moon.
- 56:39SPEAKER_10: I'm just so easily led when the little head does the thinking.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: There it is, that's the hook.
- 56:46SPEAKER_01: I'm just so easily led when the little head does the thinking.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: Right, there it is.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: Reminds me of another song that he did that he hasn't put on an album.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: But it's on YouTube.
- 56:55SPEAKER_01: You can look it up since his penis came between us.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: Um but I mean, what I love about John Hyde, and this is this is kind of in his rock stage.
- 57:06SPEAKER_01: He had he had several stages as an artist.
- 57:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:09SPEAKER_01: He started out as just kind of a writer, and um like in early, early Nashville, and he had some hit songs.
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure if I have one of his early albums on here or not.
- 57:25SPEAKER_01: Um I have it on vinyl, I know that.
- 57:29SPEAKER_01: It doesn't look that way, but Sure As I'm Sittin' Here was a song for the Three Dog Knight.
- 57:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 57:35SPEAKER_01: Um and he and he was in he was in like he almost had like new wave stuff in the early 80s, like or late 70s, early 80s.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: It was almost he did a lot of stuff that um I'm looking here, I'm looking here.
- 57:51SPEAKER_01: I don't think I have that album in here.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: No but he did a lot of um stuff that was original that was covered by like Roseanne Cash and even Rodney Crowell.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: Um but it was very new wavish.
- 58:06SPEAKER_05: Rodney Crowell did um what's that song?
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: The high song?
- 58:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 58:14SPEAKER_05: Uh something about the name of that.
- 58:24SPEAKER_01: I'd have to great song.
- 58:26SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, Roseanne Cash did like Pink Bedroom.
- 58:28SPEAKER_01: Um she said the same things to me.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: I think Rodney Kral covered that too.
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: She said the same things to me.
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: These are all early John Hyatt songs.
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 58:35SPEAKER_01: You're looking it up now.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: Um but then and and he he was an alcoholic.
- 58:41SPEAKER_01: I guess is an alcoholic.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: You know, once you're an alcoholic, you're you're always an alcoholic.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: But he has hasn't had a drop for, I don't know, forty years, fifty years.
- 58:52SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: But uh he went away for a little while.
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: His career, you know, uh stalled because of his addictions and things.
- 59:01SPEAKER_01: And then he came back in like eighty-seven with an album called Bring the Family, which had Nick Lowe uh on bass, Jim Keltner on drums, and Rye Cooter on guitar.
- 59:12SPEAKER_05: Oh man.
- 59:13SPEAKER_05: Jim Keltner.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, right.
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: And and they they there was a a what do you c what they call a his comeback trilogy of albums.
- 59:26SPEAKER_01: And they were Bring the Family, Slow Turning, and Stolen Moments.
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: Uh all just amazingly classic albums.
- 59:36SPEAKER_01: And Bonnie Wright covered um a thing called Love and had a huge hit with it.
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: She's covered two or three John Hyatt songs, actually.
- 59:45SPEAKER_01: Um and uh Suzy She loves the jerk.
- 59:48SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, she loves the jerk.
- 59:49SPEAKER_01: Yes, you're right.
- 59:50SPEAKER_01: Rodney Kral did do that.
- 59:51SPEAKER_05: He did do that, yeah.
- 59:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:52SPEAKER_01: Um and let's see, um Susie Boggis had a big hit with Drive South on the country charts, and he said that Susie Boggus, he really loves Susie Boggus because uh she she put uh his kid through college with that one song.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_01: So um yeah, he he he had he doesn't he didn't write for other people, but people just loved his stuff so much that they just did it.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_01: They did it.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_05: And so I mean we'd all heard of John Hyatt before we had heard of John Hyatt.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_05: Because we knew Jeff Healy's Angel Eyes.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_01: Yep, Angel Eyes.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_05: We knew Bonnie Wright's uh um uh uh Thing Called Love.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_01: Thing called Love.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_05: We knew these songs and we just we just didn't know who was behind it.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_01: Jeff Healy's Angel Eyes was was Hyatt and Fred Kohler, one of the only co-writes that John Hyatt has.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_01: Uh but also Confidence Man from Jeff Healy was which was in Roadhouse.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_01: Uh that's also a John Hyatt's.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_05: John Hyatt's oh, yeah.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_01: So uh so you know we had followed him before we knew who he was, and we didn't know it, which was pretty awesome.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_01: So yeah, Bring the Family, um, Slow Turning, and um Stolen Moments were kind of like uh folk rock.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's nice guitar.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like root folk rock, root rock, right?
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_01: And then he put out an album called Um Perfectly Good Guitar.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_01: Uh, which was very rock, but I mean it's awesome.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_01: And then and this one came right near that, uh, Little Head.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_01: Um, this is Pirate Radio.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_01: So you've never heard this album?
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_05: I probably heard songs of it, just didn't I don't have the album itself.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_05: Because I knew the song Little Head, because we've done that before, yeah.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_05: And I've heard this song before.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_05: I do.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: And so what I was gonna say is so this was his kind of his rock era, and then he put out an acoustic album, which won Grammys.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: Crossing Muddy Waters.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_05: Oh, that's a great album.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_05: So great.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: Since then, he has leaned acoustic.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm not gonna say it's all but very bluesy.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_01: You know, he put out one called Mystic Pinball, which was very bluesy.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_01: Very bluesy.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_01: Um what was the other one?
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_05: Same old uh same old man.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_05: Same old man.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that was the one he produced.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_01: There's one called Open Road, yeah.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: That he did.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_01: But lately he's been doing a lot of like folk.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, just yeah.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_01: Because he's 70 something now.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_01: Slowing down.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_01: But still an amazing.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: He's slow turning.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_01: But still an amazing writer.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_01: Uh this is one of my favorites off this album.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_01: It's so stupid.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_01: I I don't some of the lyrics I don't understand.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_01: But it doesn't even care.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_05: Half the fun is trying to figure out what he's talking about.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_01: He's got a line in here.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_01: That is morning comes like Catholic guilt.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_13: I think I get it.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_13: What's wrong with I'm feeling like it?
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_12: Electric onion peeling within.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_01: Electric onion peeling within.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_05: I don't get it.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_05: I think it just sounds cool.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_01: Here's one here's one about getting old.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_01: It's called graduated.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_05: I don't think I've heard this one.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_13: Three thousand kisses on the living room floor.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_13: But we don't do that kind of thing anymore, cause we're both graduated.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_13: We just got to go to the world.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_05: This one is very Tom Petty ish, yeah.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_05: So I'm like, which came first?
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_05: This or the ton or Tom Petty?
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_01: Very werewolves of London.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_01: I've always said it sounds like werewolves of London.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_01: This is called this is a funny song.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_01: This is called Shore Pinocchio.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_05: Chore Pinocchio?
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_01: All you did was bold me like a dear John Letton.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_12: Like a pinto.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_12: God and uncle.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_12: God and looking like Audit Dom Uncle.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_01: So basically, she's a liar.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_01: Anyway, so and then there's this really beautiful ballad called Runaway.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_01: This is a this is about a a woman living in an abusive relationship, I believe.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_13: On the outside.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_13: You devoke.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_13: On the inside.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_13: Burn with a broken wing.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_13: Chance to take it.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_13: Now the dark justice.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_13: Domestic.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_13: Still do it all again.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_13: Stomp and put down it.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_13: Just call it.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_01: Just it's great stuff, man.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_01: This album, you know, doesn't get the love that it deserves.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_01: This is I'll put this the last one I'll play.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_01: This is called Woman's Not in Half.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_01: This is this is typical John Hyatt lyrics.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_01: It's just stupid crazy.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_13: You know that one of the money.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_01: Anyway, that's all.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_01: You know, I could I could play more.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_01: There's more songs on this album, but the album is Little Head for 1997, uh, which I don't think he's probably gonna do any song from this album when he plays this weekend.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_05: Well, one of us should keep track of what he plays.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_01: We'll write it write him down or something.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_01: Because uh people do that in the uh in the group um that I'm in.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_05: Let's see, because I had ethylene stuck in my head though.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, such a great song.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_01: Also one that features uh Bonnie Rain.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_01: Uh I want to see somebody posted a set list not too long ago.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_01: And they've been posting pictures from his shows.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_05: I thought there was no pictures.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_01: I think it might have been just that venue.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, maybe not.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_01: Uh or at least that, or somebody's like kind of sneaking them through.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_01: Um scrolling down through the group here because I just wanted to show show you uh one of the a couple of the things that he has been.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_01: Oh look at this.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_01: So here's one.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_01: Started with Etheline.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_01: Ethelene, drive south through your hands.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_01: The river knows your name, thing called Love.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_01: What do we do now?
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_01: Crossing muddy waters.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_01: Thunderbird, perfectly good guitar, feels like rain.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_01: My baby, slow turning, real fine love, Tennessee plates, Memphis in the meantime, your dad did Riding with the King.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_01: And he ends with Have a Little Faith in Me.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, this is gonna be.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_05: This is gonna be such a great show.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_05: This is gonna be I cannot wait.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I'm excited.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_01: I'm excited.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_01: So, anyway, uh that is our special climbing the wall of tunes today.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_01: John Hyatt.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_01: If you do not have any John Hyatt and you liked what you heard, what's wrong with you?
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure if that's a good uh representation of what John Hyatt's all about.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_05: Nah, I mean I would if you if you've never if you don't know anything by John Hyatt, just explore for a while.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, before I end, let's uh I want to give you an example of what he is up to these days.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_01: I think this is a good representation of the kind of thing he's doing now.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_01: Do you know the song?
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_01: This is from Mystic Pinball.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's uh uh You know I'm terrible with names.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_01: No wicked grin.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_01: It's a great song.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_05: Maybe this isn't a great representation, but this is basically what he's been doing lately.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_01: And it's not all s always slow.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_01: No, no, but there's just a little the worst.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_13: I can see by your tears the colour.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_13: You still hear the colour of blue and I can see by your face it's a lonely old place you've gone and gotten into I've got this smile I've had for a while, it ain't exactly brand new.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_13: It's no wicked greed, it's good and warm, and I'd like to give it to you.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's you know, he's he's just wise in his ears, and he's just a great writer.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_05: Great writer.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_05: I love his songs.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_01: Um so get you some John Hyatt.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_01: Or at least investigate, because I think you're really gonna like it.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, man.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_01: Um so that's it.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_01: That's episode 196.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_01: Um we'll be back and we'll tell you all about our show.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm sure some funny things will happen too to us.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_05: Well, I mean, we got Boba, so we know something.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_01: Are you going early?
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_01: When when are you leaving?
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_01: Are you working that day?
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_01: You're not gonna be able to do it.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_05: It was the only day I could get off.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_05: I literally the only day I could get off.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna try and leave uh relatively early because I'm working that morning.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna try and leave around if I can.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna try and leave around.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_01: Uh hopefully nobody listened to the podcast that I work with.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_05: Um, send them to study hall.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_05: Go to study hall.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna go see something awesome.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_01: Well here's the thing, is our our concert is Thursday.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_01: So after our concert, we have nothing.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_01: You know, we usually do fun things until the end of the year.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_01: So if I send them to study hall, it's no harm nor foul.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_01: So uh that's just so I can leave earlier and get down there because it's four hours, four and a half hours.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_01: Four hours, yeah.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_01: You have to get down there.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_01: So I want to get down there with a little bit of time and and maybe see hang out with Bob for at least a little while before we go to the show.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_05: Well maybe we should just you know try to get down there early, maybe go get something to eat.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_05: Something something like that.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_01: Because as soon as the concert's over, although I think I got the concert is forty minutes from his house.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_05: So hopefully he's he's not gonna drive home, but you know, because I gotta bust out of there as soon as I can.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_01: I know, it's just that's bugging me.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_01: But you know, what are you gonna do?
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_05: I gotta I gotta do it.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_05: I know you gotta go.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_05: I mean, how many chan how many more chances are we gonna see to get to see John Hyatt?
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_05: You gotta do what you gotta do.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_05: I mean, if I have to sacrifice my health and sleep, I'm gonna do it.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_01: We love you, John Hyatt.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_05: That's how much I love you, man.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_05: You better sign something for him.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_05: You you better, you better like like give me a big hug.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_05: Because hug rhymes with duck.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_05: Hold on.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_05: And and give me the keys to your car.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_05: Be like, hey, see what that says?
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_05: This is John Hyde's keys.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_05: What?

- 1:15:35SPEAKER_01: It's it's gonna be an awesome weekend.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm excited.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_01: Although, you know, so I gotta I gotta so I'm going down to that and stand at night, and then getting up in the morning, I gotta go to Brewer to Eli's track meet.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_05: All right, yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_01: But then I gotta come back because I gotta play Campers Paradise that night.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.

- 1:15:50SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna be tired too.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_01: Not as tired as you, I'm sure.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_05: Nobody's gonna be as tired as I am.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's gonna be a world.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's gonna be totally worth it.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_01: A world yeah, absolutely worth it.
