Speaker 3: the Selango All Light the Night continues. I want to
2:51
Speaker 3: bring in Jill gar under the Dirty Birds to talk
2:54
Speaker 3: about that. Jill, good morning, welcome back to the show.
2:56
Speaker 4: Good morning, Thank you.
2:57
Speaker 3: Have a good Thanksgiving.
2:58
Speaker 4: It was good.
2:59
Speaker 5: It was good.
2:59
Speaker 4: I was out in a little little warmer there, so
3:02
Speaker 4: we're adjusting. But it's been fun, I.
3:04
Speaker 3: Would imagine, because I mean, you know when you land
3:07
Speaker 3: back here and suddenly we had some snow over the weekend.
3:10
Speaker 3: Not a lot in this area, but we had some snow,
3:12
Speaker 3: and definitely the colder temperatures a little bit different than California,
3:16
Speaker 3: just a little bit.
3:17
Speaker 4: But you know, I spent four years in Boston. I
3:19
Speaker 4: know how to handle the winter. It's just getting reacclimated.
3:22
Speaker 3: To one one extreme to the other. Yeah, I guess.
3:24
Speaker 3: So how's it been so far?
3:25
Speaker 4: It's been great. I mean we've been open, what two
3:28
Speaker 4: three weeks now, and this is really getting into more
3:30
Speaker 4: of the Christmas holiday season, so we're seeing a lot
3:33
Speaker 4: bigger crowds really starting the day after Thanksgiving. We had
3:36
Speaker 4: over four thousand people on Saturday, so we haven't hit
3:39
Speaker 4: that record, which I believe was over eight thousand last year.
3:43
Speaker 4: So we're nearing there. We know we'll get busy as
3:46
Speaker 4: we get closer to Christmas.
3:47
Speaker 3: Yeah, and as you get into Thanksgiving. I mean, you know,
3:50
Speaker 3: I guess the seasons. I don't want to say they
3:53
Speaker 3: get forced, because everybody can do what they want to do,
3:55
Speaker 3: but it just seems like the season, the Christmas season
3:57
Speaker 3: starts earlier and earlier every year. You guys had an
4:00
Speaker 3: early start before Thanksgiving. And when I was talking to
4:02
Speaker 3: Andy Shay and Ben Salango the last time that they
4:05
Speaker 3: were on the show that once you start seeing the
4:07
Speaker 3: snow flying, you're probably going to see an uptick in people. Again,
4:10
Speaker 3: we didn't have a whole lot of snow here in
4:12
Speaker 3: the area. Looked pretty when you woke up yesterday morning,
4:14
Speaker 3: but it's pretty much gone by midday. But I think
4:16
Speaker 3: you probably would find that you do get an uptick
4:19
Speaker 3: in the amount of bodies that come to the turnstiles.
4:22
Speaker 4: There, definitely, and especially the snow. It's December first, and
4:26
Speaker 4: you know you have some people that start Christmas right
4:28
Speaker 4: after Halloween. I personally start Christmas the day after Thanksgiving,
4:31
Speaker 4: so for me, this would be when I would go
4:33
Speaker 4: see the lights.
4:34
Speaker 3: So you've added a lot of new things this year.
4:38
Speaker 3: Talk about some of the newer things this year.
4:40
Speaker 4: So we have more carnival rides, we have the Round
4:43
Speaker 4: Up which is where you strap in and it spins
4:45
Speaker 4: you around and goes on the side. That's been really popular.
4:48
Speaker 4: We have a carousel that's new this year and a
4:51
Speaker 4: lot new vendors coming up. This week. We're going to
4:53
Speaker 4: have I think four or five different vendors that you
4:55
Speaker 4: can buy some early Christmas gifts for, So make sure
4:59
Speaker 4: to come by the this week. It's going to be
5:00
Speaker 4: a busy week for us.
5:01
Speaker 5: It is.
5:02
Speaker 3: And you've had a lot of different special nights. I
5:04
Speaker 3: know I had the folks from aarp On not long
5:07
Speaker 3: ago with Broad Blackstone. They were on a couple of
5:09
Speaker 3: weeks ago. Talk about some of the special things you've
5:11
Speaker 3: got going on.
5:11
Speaker 4: So this week is the big one. Today we're doing
5:14
Speaker 4: a clothing drive partnering with Dress for Success. So if
5:17
Speaker 4: you bring lightly used professional clothing coats, suits, dresses, shoes,
5:22
Speaker 4: things like that, you'll get a free ticket into Light
5:25
Speaker 4: the night. Tomorrow is our first of three sensory friendly nights.
5:29
Speaker 4: Those are the first three Tuesdays in December and then Wednesday,
5:33
Speaker 4: we are doing a toy drive partnering with Sparks of
5:36
Speaker 4: Love Foundation. If you bring an unwrapped, unused toy for
5:41
Speaker 4: ages zero to twelve, you get a free ticket into
5:43
Speaker 4: Light the Night.
5:44
Speaker 3: I mean, that's one of the things I like about
5:46
Speaker 3: the Light the Night too, is that when you when
5:48
Speaker 3: it's first the game first came into ban and we
5:51
Speaker 3: talked to Solango and talked to Andy about that, was
5:53
Speaker 3: that it's always something different and you've always get these
5:56
Speaker 3: different different things to bring the community in. I know
6:00
Speaker 3: it's early, but how have the numbers look so far?
6:03
Speaker 4: Not bad? Again, like we talked about, we're expecting an
6:06
Speaker 4: uptick now that the snow has come through, now that
6:09
Speaker 4: Thanksgiving is over, I think the most we've had is
6:11
Speaker 4: right around forty five hundred. Saturday and Fridays are always
6:14
Speaker 4: our busiest days, and.
6:16
Speaker 3: I would think that Friday night, or maybe even Thursday night,
6:19
Speaker 3: like you said, a lot of people officially kick into
6:21
Speaker 3: the Christmas mode when the turkey is done. And of course,
6:25
Speaker 3: like most people, you're probably still eating turkey leftovers at
6:27
Speaker 3: this point, probably out toss those here pretty soon. But
6:30
Speaker 3: Friday when you get in and again Charleston on this
6:33
Speaker 3: past Friday, and we've talked to Mayor about this a
6:35
Speaker 3: little bit later on, we had the two day Holly
6:38
Speaker 3: Jolly Brawley event and that kind of even though it's
6:41
Speaker 3: a separate entity, Jill, it kind of goes right into
6:43
Speaker 3: what's going on over to ballpark. So with Christmas season
6:45
Speaker 3: is here.
6:46
Speaker 4: Right and we see the trolleys all around Charleston right
6:49
Speaker 4: now too where they have the lights on and we
6:51
Speaker 4: have the tlie. The trolley stops by Gomart Ballpark, so
6:54
Speaker 4: you can get on the trolley to come to the
6:57
Speaker 4: light the night shows.
6:58
Speaker 3: That's the holly Jolly Braley trolley.
7:00
Speaker 4: That's it. There's no way I can say that.
7:03
Speaker 3: Hotlined. We're talking to Joe Garrett. The Dirty Birds Dave
7:06
Speaker 3: Island Show on five eighty Live is brought to part
7:08
Speaker 3: by Bridge Valley. If you're interested in proving your company's

7:18
Speaker 3: can also supply skilled graduates and apprenticeships for your company.
7:21
Speaker 3: Visit Bridge Valley dot edu slash apprenticeships. Today and again
7:26
Speaker 3: we talked about the crowds that have been there so
7:28
Speaker 3: far and as we get. As we get you're open
7:31
Speaker 3: every night during the Christmas season except for Christmas night.
7:35
Speaker 3: Somebody is going to have to be there on Christmas Eve?
7:37
Speaker 3: Is that going to be you?
7:38
Speaker 4: That will not be me?
7:39
Speaker 3: Somebody will.
7:40
Speaker 4: I am working eighteen of the next twenty nights so
7:43
Speaker 4: I can take that week off as my family comes
7:45
Speaker 4: to visit.
7:45
Speaker 3: Yeah, and well, I'm sure you'll bring your family down
7:48
Speaker 3: to visit at some point.
7:48
Speaker 4: They want to come see what you do for a
7:50
Speaker 4: list exactly December twenty sixth mom and dad are coming through.
7:53
Speaker 4: And where's mom and dad at They're in Los Angeles
7:56
Speaker 4: right now. Okay, so they're going to be cold.
7:57
Speaker 3: Yeah, because they did. They spend time in Boss too.
8:00
Speaker 4: Is that we're the my dad's from Boston?
8:02
Speaker 3: Say, because I thought you had told us that once
8:04
Speaker 3: before and again we talk about the amount of groups
8:08
Speaker 3: that come in for these things. Ben and I talked
8:11
Speaker 3: about it as well as Andy last time they were
8:12
Speaker 3: on the show. The different like nursing home groups that
8:15
Speaker 3: come in, and that's that's.
8:16
Speaker 4: Always special, especially I mean I just got an email
8:19
Speaker 4: from West Virginia Kids Cancer Crusaders where they're going to
8:21
Speaker 4: bring eighty two of their families out for this Thursday.
8:26
Speaker 4: So they are going to be buying tickets for families
8:30
Speaker 4: that they support of children who have cancer. They're going
8:32
Speaker 4: to be buying food for them as well as ride tickets.
8:35
Speaker 4: So it's just really special to be able to partner
8:37
Speaker 4: with these types of organizations.
8:38
Speaker 5: You know.
8:39
Speaker 4: We yeah, of course we're We're a business and we
8:41
Speaker 4: want to make money with the end of the day.
8:43
Speaker 4: We love Charleston, we love West Virginia. We want to
8:45
Speaker 4: keep giving back to the community as much as we
8:47
Speaker 4: can and.
8:47
Speaker 3: Talk about the need to get the tickets in advance.
8:50
Speaker 4: So I highly highly recommend first of all, just helps
8:54
Speaker 4: us plan a little bit better selfishly. It helps us,
8:57
Speaker 4: but it helps you too because you can save up
8:59

Speaker 3: And you're gonna save yourself a little bit of money,
9:07
Speaker 3: which especially if you're bringing out the entire family, Jill,
9:10
Speaker 3: that's every little bit helps there exactly.
9:12
Speaker 4: And you know, once you're in there are some things
9:14
Speaker 4: you need to pay for the rides, you have to
9:16
Speaker 4: pay for the ice get you have to pay for us.
9:17
Speaker 4: If you save some money on the ticket, then you
9:19
Speaker 4: can maybe do a few extra rides and what.
9:21
Speaker 3: About food there you have the concessions.
9:22
Speaker 4: Or concessions are open. You got some normal ballpark stuff, cheeseburger,
9:26
Speaker 4: hot dogs, but we are also, of course, have hot chocolate.
9:29
Speaker 4: But we're doing some deep fried Oreos, deep fried Twinkies,
9:32
Speaker 4: funnel cakes, so some carnival and Christmas yfood as well.
9:36
Speaker 5: Well.
9:36
Speaker 3: I was gonna say, because it is you're at a ballpark,
9:38
Speaker 3: so you're not gonna forget that.
9:39
Speaker 4: Oh, of course, yeah, we are definitely a ballpark.
9:42
Speaker 3: Still, all right, again, it's going to continue every night
9:46
Speaker 3: through the Christmas season except for a Christmas Night. We
9:50
Speaker 3: highly encourage that you get your tickets online ahead of time.

9:57
Speaker 3: us again.
9:58
Speaker 4: Today we're partnering with us for Success. Bring clothing items
10:02
Speaker 4: of professional clothes and you get a free ticket. Tomorrow's
10:05
Speaker 4: our first censory friendly night, and Wednesday is a toy
10:09
Speaker 4: drive and then of course Friday we have the one
10:11
Speaker 4: hundred night too.
10:12
Speaker 3: All right, yeah, because I think Steve and Jenny and Logan,
10:14
Speaker 3: I think the whole crew is going to be over
10:16
Speaker 3: there coming up. Then Jill, I appreciate you being here.
10:19
Speaker 2: Thanks.
10:20
Speaker 3: When do we start getting into baseball mode at the golf,
10:22
Speaker 3: at the ball I mean we could even think about
10:25
Speaker 3: that at this point.
10:26
Speaker 4: We were thinking about it a little bit. You know,
10:29
Speaker 4: I personally am not, but I know our coaching staff
10:32
Speaker 4: is probably gonna be thinking about it pretty time soon.
10:34
Speaker 3: All right, appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot, Thanks

14:59
Speaker 5: a panish forward and giving back, just remembering your roots
15:02
Speaker 5: and you know, making some less fortunate lives better anyway possible,
15:09
Speaker 5: especially with the blessing that you received in your own lives.
15:12
Speaker 5: You know, you just started paying forward. So it's just
15:14
Speaker 5: something that I'm big on and I just want to
15:17
Speaker 5: continue to do it throughout my whole career.
15:19
Speaker 3: I want to talk about the tour. I know that
15:22
Speaker 3: you love doing this tour every year and there's always
15:24
Speaker 3: something different as part of the tour. This year, you've
15:28
Speaker 3: got an extra special guest and we'll get to him
15:31
Speaker 3: in just a couple of moments, but talk about the
15:32
Speaker 3: whole idea behind Home for the Holidays tour, why you
15:35
Speaker 3: decided to do this a few years ago in the
15:38
Speaker 3: first place.
15:39
Speaker 5: Well, homeboard Holidays is basically exactly what it means, just
15:42
Speaker 5: like everybody wants to be home for Christmas, and a
15:45
Speaker 5: lot of people in the state of West Virginia voted
15:47
Speaker 5: for me, you know, so I always want to bring
15:50
Speaker 5: those holiday concerts back to my home state. So it's
15:54
Speaker 5: about traveling throughout the whole state of West Virginia playing
15:58
Speaker 5: Christmas shows and adding.
16:00
Speaker 9: Especial guests that they would only see on TV or
16:03
Speaker 9: something like that. Even like myself, they saw me on television,
16:06
Speaker 9: but I stayed true to my roots and you know,
16:08
Speaker 9: state in the state, so they can also see me
16:10
Speaker 9: at the Pigley Wiggley.
16:16
Speaker 3: That's that's the thing about And that's it's one of
16:19
Speaker 3: the things that I respect most about you. And of
16:21
Speaker 3: course you and I have been friends for a long
16:23
Speaker 3: before America's got talent. But but I've always respected about
16:26
Speaker 3: you because you spend so much time and you know,
16:29
Speaker 3: fill in name here. You know, whether it's overseas, you
16:31
Speaker 3: spend time in Vegas. You said you just completed the
16:33
Speaker 3: album there, you're in Florida, you're in New York, Texas,
16:36
Speaker 3: wherever you may be. But West Virginia is always home
16:38
Speaker 3: for landaut Yes, it is no place like it. And
16:43
Speaker 3: this year on the tour, you've got a gentleman by
16:45
Speaker 3: the name of Moore Ilderton. Now he is the young
16:48
Speaker 3: man who, as much as you can relate to, pretty
16:52
Speaker 3: much dazzled America in the world. He was on the
16:54
Speaker 3: show The Voice, and he's a guy, uh that you
16:57
Speaker 3: know that that has a lot of Western junior roots
17:00
Speaker 3: obviously because he's a Putnam County guy, but you and
17:03
Speaker 3: I both know his real roots go back to Logan County.
17:07
Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely, Rob and so yeah he's there. Uh, I
17:13
Speaker 5: think he's their great nephews. I think he would be
17:19
Speaker 5: or a grandson. But yeah, so it's it's keeping true
17:24
Speaker 5: to your roots again, you know, and and helping out
17:27
Speaker 5: fellow West Virginia. You know, he was on to show
17:31
Speaker 5: The Voice and I was on the Meerxican Talent. He
17:34
Speaker 5: must just bringing these two things together and uh, put
17:38
Speaker 5: together a hometown type Christmas show for everybody to see.
17:43
Speaker 5: I think it'd be great for everybody to know it's
17:46
Speaker 5: his talent. Even more for the ones who didn't get
17:49
Speaker 5: to see him on television, they'll get to see during
17:51
Speaker 5: this Christmas tour. So it's always a pleasure.
17:54
Speaker 3: Talking again with Landau Eu Genie Murphy Junior. And you're
17:57
Speaker 3: gonna roll into Saint Albans Friday night. As I said,
17:59
Speaker 3: you're all over the city of West Virginia, but Friday
18:01
Speaker 3: night you're going to be at the Alburn Theater. There
18:03
Speaker 3: are two shows, seven and nine o'clock. And I was
18:06
Speaker 3: talking to your management a little bit earlier. I think
18:09
Speaker 3: getting the ticker for that seven o'clock show is going
18:11
Speaker 3: to be difficult, so folks are planning on going out
18:14
Speaker 3: you can get you take it to your website. You
18:15
Speaker 3: may want to go ahead and plan on going to
18:17
Speaker 3: that nine o'clock show. Of course, it's a big weekend
18:19
Speaker 3: in Saint Albans with the lighted boat parade, and you're
18:22
Speaker 3: going to be right there with it. And during the pandemic.
18:24
Speaker 3: A lot of folks may not know that you did
18:27
Speaker 3: some of your concerts there at the Alburn Theater. It's
18:30
Speaker 3: a great facility, yes it is.
18:33
Speaker 5: It's very intimate and they do like plays and stuff
18:35
Speaker 5: in there. So after you know, this Christmas season, if
18:38
Speaker 5: you guys want to check out a good play, they
18:40
Speaker 5: always do plays and stuff in there. And during the pandemic,
18:44
Speaker 5: I recorded my whole Christmas show in that theater because
18:48
Speaker 5: you know, we wasn't able to be around people things
18:51
Speaker 5: like that, so I did it all online. And this
18:54
Speaker 5: year with everything opened up, and we started this whole
18:58
Speaker 5: Christmas tour again. Here we are at the Aubun Theater
19:04
Speaker 5: and it sells out so quick the first show and
19:06
Speaker 5: now you got to rush and get the second show
19:09
Speaker 5: ticket because the first show sold out so fast, and
19:14
Speaker 5: we're proud of that, you know, we're happy that everybody's
19:17
Speaker 5: getting into that spirit. And we'll be out there to
19:20
Speaker 5: light the Christmas tree and do the hopeful eat thing
19:22
Speaker 5: and all of that, and then the show will go
19:25
Speaker 5: on all right.
19:26
Speaker 3: Well again, as you said, there's two shows on Friday night,
19:29
Speaker 3: one at seven at one to night. The seven o'clock
19:31
Speaker 3: show is now sold out from what I understand, so
19:34
Speaker 3: you're gonna have to get to tickets for the nine
19:36
Speaker 3: o'clock show. You can get those on your website. Landell.
19:39
Speaker 3: I appreciate you as always, my friend. I know you
19:41
Speaker 3: got a lot of media that you gotta do, so
19:43
Speaker 3: I'm gonna go ahead and let you go. Thanks a
19:44
Speaker 3: lot for being here, and we'll see you Friday night.
19:46
Speaker 5: Man, thanks a lot, right, Thank you, Freeve, Dave, thanks appreciate.
19:50
Speaker 2: It all right.
19:51
Speaker 3: It's Landeal Eugen Murphy junior guy who definitely definitely gives
19:55
Speaker 3: back to West Virginia. And again the show is going
19:58
Speaker 3: to be Friday night at the A Theater in St. Albans.
20:01
Speaker 3: There's actually two shows, seven and nine at seven o'clock show. Unfortunately,
20:04
Speaker 3: well fortunately depend on how you look at it. It's
20:06
Speaker 3: sold out at this point from what I understand. But
20:09
Speaker 3: if you get a chance to go, and he's gonna
20:11
Speaker 3: be hanging out in town a little bit. I mean,
20:12
Speaker 3: that's a guy that you know, could be anywhere, but
20:15
Speaker 3: chooses to spend time in West Virginia. Uh so has
20:18
Speaker 3: his home in Logan and doing a lot of great things.
20:22
Speaker 3: But Dave island showing five Any Live brought to you

Speaker 3: on tomorrow's show, Russell last mar from the University of
20:55
Speaker 3: Charleston's Downtown Innovation Hub is going to be joining this,
20:58
Speaker 3: plus Jason Quintrel from UNI Mission back on the show tomorrow.
21:01
Speaker 3: Charleston City councilhen Chad Robinson will be stopping by counsel
21:04
Speaker 3: and we'll talk to the mayor about this momentarily is
21:06
Speaker 3: set to meet tonight and among the things that could
21:08
Speaker 3: possibly be discussed would be this anti panhandling issue in
21:11
Speaker 3: the city councilor Robinson is one of the ones that's
21:14
Speaker 3: kind of been on the forefront of that movement. We'll
21:16
Speaker 3: talk to him about that, plus more coming up on
21:19
Speaker 3: tomorrow's show, the Neil Brown Era the Climb if you
21:22
Speaker 3: will is over hoppy. Of course, we'll have more out
21:24
Speaker 3: of a talk line. It really shouldn't come as a surprise,
21:28
Speaker 3: as WU fans have been, you know, pretty much calling
21:30
Speaker 3: for that for some time now, especially after that blowout
21:32
Speaker 3: loss to Texas Tech on Saturday. Bittersweet for coach Brown though,
21:37
Speaker 3: is he A gets fired and b gets paid around
21:40
Speaker 3: six or seven million dollars to walk away? Not not
21:45
Speaker 3: bad work if you can get him. Maybe, you know,
21:49
Speaker 3: maybe he was in a little bit over his head.
21:52
Speaker 3: Maybe not. I don't know. But the whole climb that
21:54
Speaker 3: he talked about never never really got off the ground.
21:56
Speaker 3: There were moments of hope here and there, but overall
21:59
Speaker 3: not so much. He did finish with a winning record overall, though,
22:02
Speaker 3: So let's let them mountain near faithful start throwing the
22:04
Speaker 3: names out there, their wish list of who they want
22:06
Speaker 3: to see takeover rich Rod. You hear that a lot,
22:09
Speaker 3: Jimbo Fisher. You know, I'll leave most of that up
22:12
Speaker 3: to Hoppying Coredian, coach Hunter Bright, how et cetera. But
22:15
Speaker 3: if you want to weigh in on the firing of
22:16
Speaker 3: Neil Brown, you're more than welcome to text me.
22:18
Speaker 2: You can do that.
22:19
Speaker 3: Tony Taylor Texas three zero four nine three five five
22:22
Speaker 3: zero zero. Waiting again, Hoppy is going to get into
22:24
Speaker 3: that more coming up a little bit later on in
22:26
Speaker 3: the show. Look who's here, it's our mayor you're in
22:29
Speaker 3: it on? Can I get you to move to that side?
22:31
Speaker 3: Just simply hold on a second. I gotta push them
22:34
Speaker 3: a buncher simply because that's where I have the headphones play.
22:36
Speaker 9: Whitch.
22:36
Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
22:37
Speaker 3: How you doing?
22:37
Speaker 5: Man?
22:38
Speaker 10: Good morning? I know I got your text. I was
22:40
Speaker 10: super happy to come in a little early.
22:41
Speaker 2: Yeah.
22:42
Speaker 3: Landau is going to be playing two shows at the
22:45
Speaker 3: Album Theater Friday. Friday is already The seven o'clock show
22:48
Speaker 3: is already sold out, I believe it. The nine o'clock show,
22:51
Speaker 3: there are still some tickets available. But this is a
22:53
Speaker 3: guy mayor the.
22:55
Speaker 10: People know him because if you know him, you know
22:58
Speaker 10: he is truly the sweetest man is. He's so sweet.
23:02
Speaker 3: I always you know, my being from Logan. We all
23:05
Speaker 3: know each other. Yeah, that's just the way it is.
23:07
Speaker 4: Yeah.
23:08
Speaker 10: Actually I went to He's talented and smart and all
23:11
Speaker 10: that good stuff. But man, he's the heart of.
23:12
Speaker 3: Go and he's really he's not changed one bit. I
23:15
Speaker 3: mean he's the same week you can.
23:16
Speaker 10: Tell people, don't. People don't change that. You can change
23:19
Speaker 10: a lot of things, but you don't change your heart.
23:22
Speaker 10: You don't.
23:23
Speaker 3: He's the same guy I went to. I went to
23:24
Speaker 3: high school with his brother. And he's the same guy
23:27
Speaker 3: that he was when I first met him thirty thirty
23:29
Speaker 3: five years ago. He changed one bit. We always bust
23:32
Speaker 3: on each other's sports teams and that sort of thing,
23:35
Speaker 3: and he'll text me with weird things he sees out
23:37
Speaker 3: on the road.
23:37
Speaker 11: You know.
23:37
Speaker 3: Sometimes he's just.
23:38
Speaker 10: Such a great ambassador for West Virginia.
23:40
Speaker 3: Yes, so how are you?
23:42
Speaker 10: I'm perfect? How about you? I mean a lot of
23:45
Speaker 10: good teams won this weekend, Marshall. Marshall, Yeah, see my
23:49
Speaker 10: green coat. Yeah, you're raiding it around today, puffing my
23:53
Speaker 10: chest out. I work out with somebody who goes to Jamia,
23:55
Speaker 10: but I did so I didn't want to brag too much,
23:58
Speaker 10: but I did wear my long green, great green Marshall,
24:01
Speaker 10: call you. Yeah, I mean it was I'm not sure
24:06
Speaker 10: that we should have won that game, but by golly,
24:08
Speaker 10: we did. And what a great game. My We were
24:12
Speaker 10: in the rec room with our boys watching it. And
24:16
Speaker 10: my boys, as you well know, Dave, are not small.
24:19
Speaker 10: They're not small potatoes. And so when the the the
24:23
Speaker 10: kicker and the pass back, and remember I'm a hockey mom,
24:26
Speaker 10: so I just sports ball, sports ball. And then when
24:29
Speaker 10: they won, they both jumped up so loud, like the
24:34
Speaker 10: floor shook. Both of the boys sprung and jumped in
24:38
Speaker 10: the whole house. I was like, settled down, we've already
24:40
Speaker 10: decorated the tree.
24:41
Speaker 3: Calm down, you'll knock it over now.
24:43
Speaker 2: They were so fired up.
24:45
Speaker 10: So now the only we have, you know, we have
24:47
Speaker 10: group tax, family tax with the kids with extended family.
24:51
Speaker 10: So that has been the entire week and uh, and
24:54
Speaker 10: of course the news about Neil Brown has been the
24:56
Speaker 10: entire weekend. Texting back forth on our on our family text.
25:00
Speaker 10: Marshall University, that's where that's where my head is today.
25:04
Speaker 10: And I'm really pleased for coach Huff and the I
25:08
Speaker 10: was getting ready to say kiddos, they're not kiddos. These
25:10
Speaker 10: young men have done such an amazing job. And it's
25:14
Speaker 10: been a hard season.
25:15
Speaker 3: And nobody hasn't been easy, right, and nobody really expected
25:17
Speaker 3: a lot from the Thundering Herd this season. Now they're
25:21
Speaker 3: going to be playing for the Sun Bowl Championship. They're
25:22
Speaker 3: going to a bowl, you know yet again this year.
25:24
Speaker 3: So it's it's a great time to be uh, to
25:28
Speaker 3: be a fan of the Thundering Herd. Yeah, and there's
25:30
Speaker 3: a lot of excitement now about I think and nobody.
25:33
Speaker 3: You never want to see may or anybody lose their job,
25:35
Speaker 3: that's right. But by all intents and purposes, And I
25:37
Speaker 3: met Neil Brown, I've been around Neil you know Brown
25:40
Speaker 3: a little. He seems like an incredibly good dude, I mean, man, nobody,
25:45
Speaker 3: I've never heard anybody say anything bad about him as
25:49
Speaker 3: a person. Which if you're in a public eye and
25:51
Speaker 3: you're a coach, you're not going to find a lot
25:54
Speaker 3: of people that are going to, you know, speak positively
25:57
Speaker 3: every time.
25:58
Speaker 10: You have emotions like that on the line with people
26:01
Speaker 10: who are so invested and I get it. Listen it
26:04
Speaker 10: is we're season ticket holders as well. Listen, I love
26:07
Speaker 10: going to the games. I have a child at WV,
26:10
Speaker 10: I graduated from w I married somebody from WU, so
26:13
Speaker 10: we definitely have an interest. And yes, I agree we
26:16
Speaker 10: should be winning and we should be spending money on winning,
26:19
Speaker 10: and we should be spending on money investing in kids
26:22
Speaker 10: at the university for sure. But you know the comments
26:25
Speaker 10: about he's not a nice guy, and he is a
26:28
Speaker 10: nice guy, he may not be the right coach for us,
26:30
Speaker 10: and obviously the clock is run out. That's fine. It'll
26:35
Speaker 10: be a hard slog to get a new one. It's
26:37
Speaker 10: my understanding. They've already interviewed several or talked to several folks.
26:40
Speaker 10: Good for them, But you know, as a as a
26:43
Speaker 10: member of that university, I as you all know, I
26:46
Speaker 10: have in my garage Andrew got for me. I know,
26:49
Speaker 10: a couple birthdays ago the house divided, you know, Marshall's
26:52
Speaker 10: and the little lightning Bolton WVU. When these universities succeed,
26:58
Speaker 10: we all succeed. That's not just a bumper sticker. I
27:01
Speaker 10: mean that. And oh by the way, I mean that
27:04
Speaker 10: with University of Charleston, and it can be West Liberty
27:08
Speaker 10: or Concord or Shepherd. When West Virginia institutions succeed, we
27:12
Speaker 10: all succeed. We are going to be and have been
27:16
Speaker 10: on a national spotlight and it is it's great. It's
27:20
Speaker 10: great for us. But you know, the page has turned.
27:22
Speaker 10: He knows that this is the business season. It's certainly
27:25
Speaker 10: not a shock, but you know, my hope for the
27:29
Speaker 10: best because these folks work extremely hard. I have a
27:32
Speaker 10: family members on the team, and they work hard. They
27:35
Speaker 10: work really really hard. These kids do.
27:37
Speaker 3: And the landscape of college athletics, mayor has changed so
27:40
Speaker 3: much because what a team looks like in twenty twenty
27:44
Speaker 3: four is not what it's going to look like in
27:45
Speaker 3: twenty twenty five with the transfer portal and with nil
27:48
Speaker 3: and all these other things. And it's hard for a
27:51
Speaker 3: university like West Virginia, let alone Marshall or you see,
27:54
Speaker 3: or any of these other schools to be able to
27:56
Speaker 3: compete with the Texases of the world at the Oklahoma
27:59
Speaker 3: and the and these other Oregon these much larger schools
28:03
Speaker 3: that can offer, you know, so many different things. And
28:07
Speaker 3: to your point, in West Virginia, you know, we don't
28:09
Speaker 3: have a professional sports team, so there so we wrap
28:13
Speaker 3: ourselves in WVU and Marshall and things of that nature.
28:17
Speaker 3: And it's and sometimes the fan bases can get a
28:20
Speaker 3: little out of control and they forget my children.
28:23
Speaker 10: And again I'm and my husband, who I remind him
28:26
Speaker 10: sometimes when he's gnashing his teeth and you know, his
28:29
Speaker 10: hand twisting. Some of these people on the field are eighteen, yeah, nineteen,
28:35
Speaker 10: younger than our own children. I know, I know, but
28:39
Speaker 10: this is what it's about. Listen. I grew up in sports.
28:42
Speaker 10: I've played sports in my whole life. It's competition time.
28:44
Speaker 10: This is what we're all about. Listen, watching our men's
28:47
Speaker 10: basketball team play last week, they were fantastic. I mean,
28:51
Speaker 10: how many overtimes can we go into at the end
28:54
Speaker 10: of each game? But that's great for our entire state
28:58
Speaker 10: and really high hopes for that coach. It's fun, by
29:01
Speaker 10: the way, it's fun to watch West Virginia basketball.
29:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, it was, it was, It really really is. Texas
29:06
Speaker 3: Dave Neil Brown's payout is nine point seven million. Most
29:09
Speaker 3: people say that it will be negotiated doubt, but Texta
29:13
Speaker 3: continues he should have been gone two years ago and
29:15
Speaker 3: never received an extension. Texas David, Congratulations to the Herd.
29:19
Speaker 3: What a great comeback to win the game in the
29:21
Speaker 3: East Division of the Sunday.
29:23
Speaker 10: You know, I will say about coach Huff again if
29:25
Speaker 10: you don't know him. I had a nephew who played
29:28
Speaker 10: Marshall football as a slot receiver. And you know players
29:33
Speaker 10: will tell you. They'll tell you behind closed doors. Zend
29:36
Speaker 10: in front. He's a nut. You talk about a nice guy,
29:39
Speaker 10: he's a he used to say to me and Amy.
29:41
Speaker 10: He's a player's coach, and so what was that. He's
29:44
Speaker 10: into our development as as well. He wants to know
29:47
Speaker 10: that we are succeeding not just as player but as
29:50
Speaker 10: play yours, but as people. That's important. That's important because
29:55
Speaker 10: I actually think being you know, having all of those
29:59
Speaker 10: things firing on also owners, you are a better player.
30:01
Speaker 10: When you are a well rounded person, you are a
30:03
Speaker 10: better player. He made him think, He made him listen,
30:05
Speaker 10: he made him learn. That's a good coach.
30:07
Speaker 3: Well, and we kind of forget this sometime and we'll
30:10
Speaker 3: go and I promise we're not going to talk about sports.
30:11
Speaker 3: We'll go into some other things, right, but we forget
30:15
Speaker 3: sometimes too that the majority, no matter how talented a
30:18
Speaker 3: player is on Western Ginia University or Marshall, the majority
30:21
Speaker 3: of them are not going to go to the NFL.
30:23
Speaker 5: That's it.
30:23
Speaker 3: They may play to Canada, they may go to Europe.
30:26
Speaker 10: A job within that right, but this is it for
30:29

Speaker 3: get to for the mayor. Before we do that, though,
34:26
Speaker 3: I want to talk about Christmas in Capital City. I
34:29
Speaker 3: had Jill Gearin from The Dirty Birds on earlier. Of
34:32
Speaker 3: course we kicked off Holly Jolly Brawley during the Thanksgiving
34:36
Speaker 3: break and now we get ready for the Christmas Parade
34:38
Speaker 3: this Thursday night in Charleston.
34:40
Speaker 10: I can't wait. We have our theme. Okay, I'm not
34:43
Speaker 10: going to tell you what it is. A surprise, Okay,
34:45
Speaker 10: it's a throwback to the eighties. It's little something we
34:47
Speaker 10: used to do in the eighties.
34:48
Speaker 3: I'm not going to talk about break dance, you.
34:51
Speaker 10: Know, I can't do that now. I did have a
34:53
Speaker 10: cabbage patch Janina Aviva. That was my cabbage patch. I
34:58
Speaker 10: still have her somewhere, I think.
35:01
Speaker 3: Yeah, talk about small business Saturday.
35:04
Speaker 10: Oh you know it was great. Let me get let
35:06
Speaker 10: me go all the way back, you know, even you
35:08
Speaker 10: know when we started setting up the trees for Holly
35:10
Speaker 10: Jolly Brawley and and folks. Folks may have forgotten when
35:14
Speaker 10: we started this. It was twenty twenty. I remember sitting
35:17
Speaker 10: in a senior staff zoom with people Matthew Sutton and
35:21
Speaker 10: I'm my chief of staff and I didn't miss work
35:24
Speaker 10: and we were in city Hall most days during the pandemic.
35:27
Speaker 10: We might be the only people in city Hall, but
35:30
Speaker 10: we were sitting there on the zoom and I said
35:32
Speaker 10: we need to have a tree lighting. And everyone said,
35:34
Speaker 10: no one will come, it's it's COVID, nobody's coming. Well,
35:37
Speaker 10: twelve people did. Twelve people did, and a little girl
35:42
Speaker 10: with her dad and he was a refuse driver, refuse
35:44
Speaker 10: truck driver for us, and he brought his little girl.
35:46
Speaker 10: And that was the very first Holly Jolly Braley. And
35:49
Speaker 10: even though people say what wasn't called that, well, we
35:52
Speaker 10: started it then because what it was then and what
35:56
Speaker 10: it is now is a time for people to come
35:58
Speaker 10: together to connect. That's what it is about. Yes, it
36:01
Speaker 10: has turned into one hundred and sixty six fully decorated
36:04
Speaker 10: trees that last, you know, six weeks's. It is one
36:09
Speaker 10: of the very best things that we do here in
36:11
Speaker 10: the City of Charleston. People come now to visit their family.
36:15
Speaker 10: People do not go on vacation. That is where everyone
36:19
Speaker 10: comes to, by the way, get engaged or get their
36:22
Speaker 10: family photos. So the return on investment that we have
36:25
Speaker 10: received and working with the Downtown Business Association, Kevin and Morgan,
36:30
Speaker 10: by the way, Evan Osborne Capital Market. You know, from
36:35
Speaker 10: our city team, it's all day. Our city team members
36:39
Speaker 10: Jane and Miranda and Mark Lieutenant Kinder work every day
36:45
Speaker 10: on this event. Wednesday night, it was packed downtown. Thursday night,
36:49
Speaker 10: by the way, it was packed. Downtown business is open,
36:52
Speaker 10: by the way, Downtown Charleston on Thursday, Dave, because they're
36:54
Speaker 10: like those people downtown, well might as well open the doors.
36:57
Speaker 10: Great Friday is insane downtown and it will continue. You
37:04
Speaker 10: know this in addition to Light the Night and other
37:08
Speaker 10: things that we have downtown and throughout the City of
37:12
Speaker 10: Charleston and throughout the region. I mean, you know, Mayor
37:14
Speaker 10: James does a great job. Hurricane does a great job
37:18
Speaker 10: as well. It is it is one of my very
37:22
Speaker 10: favorite times. But it's a lot of work. I mean,
37:23
Speaker 10: make no mistake. But the one thing we wanted with
37:25
Speaker 10: Holly Jolly Braley is free, free, free, free. We forget sometimes, Dave,
37:29
Speaker 10: these are expensive things for kids to go and if
37:32
Speaker 10: parents are spending on gifts, or parents are spending on
37:36
Speaker 10: maybe a saving for a vacation, Holly Jolly Braley is
37:40
Speaker 10: a place you can come and it's free. Man, it's free.
37:43
Speaker 10: There's face painting, there are games. We gave all of
37:46
Speaker 10: the kids these cool refractable glasses where you can see
37:50
Speaker 10: different designs and the lights the drone show, Doctor Rosenkrantz
37:54
Speaker 10: WV Medicine did an amazing job. Anyways, it's my understanding though,
37:58
Speaker 10: for Small Business Saturday, that there were record numbers. Tony Parentzino,
38:04
Speaker 10: Tony the Taylor, who is the only man I know
38:07
Speaker 10: who can actually make my two children look stunning. You know,
38:13
Speaker 10: there were records, so you know, having these events is
38:17
Speaker 10: fun and it's free for folks, which is so important,
38:21
Speaker 10: but it also drives it drives business. Yes, there's still
38:24
Speaker 10: a lot of online which is also you know the
38:28
Speaker 10: way the way that is, my parents are small business owners.
38:30
Speaker 10: You have to do sales online, but people like going
38:33
Speaker 10: into a shop. I went into Chuck Hampshire's shop Purple
38:37
Speaker 10: Moon and bought several gifts for folks and a little
38:40
Speaker 10: something for myself. Well, don't tell John Burdette, I know
38:43
Speaker 10: you're not supposed to one for me, one for you.
38:45
Speaker 3: I gotta mention this, and I got to get some
38:47
Speaker 3: text too. But you mentioned Matt Sutton, your chief of staff.
38:50
Speaker 3: I actually met Matt's dad at Tony the Taylor's. Yeah,
38:55
Speaker 3: last week. I always thought that Suton was raised by wolves.
38:58
Speaker 3: He's actually got a family, a super nice daddy, very
39:01
Speaker 3: very nice gentleman, very nice show.
39:03
Speaker 10: Tony does it up though. I mean he not only
39:05
Speaker 10: does he, you know, have the best you know, clothing, shoes,
39:09
Speaker 10: socks and custom fit you know for those of us
39:13
Speaker 10: who you know may not can pull something right off
39:15
Speaker 10: of a rack. He also feeds you really well yeah
39:19
Speaker 10: he does.
39:20
Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, let's get to some texts or Texas
39:22
Speaker 3: can the mayor look into the pickup traffic at Wholes
39:25
Speaker 3: Elementary pickup is at two the line on Louden Heights
39:29
Speaker 3: starts at around one thirty and by one forty the
39:31
Speaker 3: traffic is wrapped around the curve, inhibiting through traffic.
39:34
Speaker 10: You know, we talked about this, Dave. I think it
39:36
Speaker 10: was we were We talked about it on the show,
39:38
Speaker 10: did we not a couple of months ago, and we
39:40
Speaker 10: actually had some folks go out to talk to the
39:43
Speaker 10: school and as communication for parents, and you know, my
39:47
Speaker 10: kids rode the bus sands them having a dentist or
39:50
Speaker 10: doctor's appointment or a kid who is in speech, like
39:53
Speaker 10: a couple of days a week. I'd have to pick
39:54
Speaker 10: up early it. You know, that's why we have you know,
39:58
Speaker 10: bus routes running as well. We do our very very best.
40:03
Speaker 10: But when you have you have Holts, you have Overbrook,
40:07
Speaker 10: you have John Adams, you have GW you have Kenna.
40:10
Speaker 10: In that really heavy populated area, it does get it
40:14
Speaker 10: does get really sticky. But I definitely will look into it,
40:17
Speaker 10: and I'll make a call to the board office today
40:20
Speaker 10: later on today.
40:21
Speaker 3: Texas, Dave. Hopefully coach Hough will stick around with a
40:24
Speaker 3: nice new contract, great communicator, and coach Rummel has been
40:27
Speaker 3: leaving for Southern Mississippi. Yeah, I've heard those same rumors
40:30
Speaker 3: as well Techs.
40:31
Speaker 10: We've had him for as long as we had so.
40:33
Speaker 3: Texas, Dave, big thanks to me or a good one
40:34
Speaker 3: and to everyone else involved with bringing a drone light
40:37
Speaker 3: show to Holly Jolly Bradley festivities. Hopefully we'll get more
40:40
Speaker 3: of those unless fireworks way cooler and doesn't scare the dogs.
40:43
Speaker 10: Yeah, it was really really cool. Our countdown was a
40:45
Speaker 10: little off at the end, but that's okay, first time
40:48
Speaker 10: for first time for everything. Plus, by the way, who
40:51
Speaker 10: I had a whole bunch of children helping me, and
40:53
Speaker 10: one of the little guys said to me, miss Amy,
40:56
Speaker 10: you're not supposed to count down again. I said, it's good,
40:58
Speaker 10: We're just going to overdo it and do it again.
41:00
Speaker 10: Said okay, when you're working with kids four years old.
41:06
Speaker 3: So sorry Texas, Texas. Hold on, I'll get the text
41:10
Speaker 3: moment I new need to get this in here with
41:11
Speaker 3: Dave Island showing five Ady Live brought to you part
41:13
Speaker 3: by Morgan to Morgan in America's largest injury law firm.
41:16
Speaker 3: Mayor Council will we'll meet tonight. One of the items
41:20
Speaker 3: that's been in the news lately has been an issue
41:22
Speaker 3: with Panhammley in Charleston, I have councilmen Chad Robinson said
41:25
Speaker 3: to be on the shows talk about it tomorrow. It
41:27
Speaker 3: is expected, I guess, to bring it up tonight. What
41:29
Speaker 3: can what can? What can you tell us about it?
41:31
Speaker 10: Well, here's what is is good about this council and
41:34
Speaker 10: in particular about council Member Chad Robinson. You know, having
41:39
Speaker 10: this through the process. This is, by the way, the
41:42
Speaker 10: way government is supposed to work. Introduce it, bring it up, Chad.
41:47
Speaker 10: Chad brought it to committee first, instead of, you know,
41:50
Speaker 10: trying to shove it down people's throats. I have always found,
41:53
Speaker 10: in the close to now six years i've been mayor,
41:55
Speaker 10: if you start to force feed people and shove things
41:57
Speaker 10: down their throat, they're going to spit it right back out.
41:59
Speaker 10: But small chewable bytes, let's let's address the problem, let's
42:02
Speaker 10: talk about the challenges and in small chewable bites, let's
42:05
Speaker 10: work together. Uh So, Council Member Robinson, I think there's
42:08
Speaker 10: been great not I think I know there's great input
42:12
Speaker 10: that's been given to him through other council members, either
42:17
Speaker 10: on the floor or subsequently. But they're working together on it.
42:21
Speaker 10: I believe it's going to be introduced tonight. There have
42:25
Speaker 10: been some modifications and some changes to it as well,
42:31
Speaker 10: but it needs to be discussed. It needs to be addressed,
42:35
Speaker 10: and we need to talk about everything that we're doing.
42:38
Speaker 10: And quite frankly, Dave, somebody said to me, are you
42:41
Speaker 10: are you? Are you for this or or not for this?
42:44
Speaker 10: And you know, always at the end of the day,
42:46
Speaker 10: let's see what's in you know, let's see what's included.
42:49
Speaker 10: But I have a huge as I was saying to
42:52
Speaker 10: Councilmember Pepper, I have huge concerns with folks on the
42:57
Speaker 10: side of the road when our cars are going extremely fast,
43:02
Speaker 10: and this includes, by the way, when we have kids
43:05
Speaker 10: out there were signed saying car washed you know today
43:09
Speaker 10: or support your you know your volleyball team. I want
43:12
Speaker 10: to support you. Please don't have your daughter standing with
43:15
Speaker 10: a huge sign in between parked cars coming up Bridge.
43:18
Speaker 3: Road because kids are counting.
43:20
Speaker 10: Yes, I mean it, it is.
43:23
Speaker 4: It is.
43:24
Speaker 10: One second from a tragedy. We have had people hit.
43:28
Speaker 10: It is dangerous. Oh, by the way, Pennsylvania and when
43:33
Speaker 10: you get off in that strip of Pennsylvania from Bridge
43:35
Speaker 10: to Bridge, it's one of the most dangerous places in
43:39
Speaker 10: the city of Charleston. There are more accidents there Dave
43:42
Speaker 10: on opposite side than anywhere in the city. It's always
43:46
Speaker 10: like number one or number two for accidents. It's very busy.
43:49
Speaker 10: There's a lot going on. I don't need you distracted.
43:53
Speaker 10: So I think a lot of it has to do
43:55
Speaker 10: you know, some of it has to do with panhandling,
43:57
Speaker 10: some of it has to do with safety and the
44:00
Speaker 10: amount of accidents that are that are happening, and so
44:05
Speaker 10: there's there's going to be great conversation. There's gonna be
44:09
Speaker 10: great conversation, and that is what's most important about this
44:13
Speaker 10: piece of legislation that Chad and others have been talking about.
44:17
Speaker 10: And by the way, again it's worth noting doing it
44:20
Speaker 10: in the right way, calm, cool, collected and talking about
44:24
Speaker 10: all the pros and cons and and things you know
44:26
Speaker 10: that maybe he hadn't thought of. You know, he is
44:29
Speaker 10: a very good council members. We have lots of good
44:32
Speaker 10: council members that when they present something to counsel, you
44:37
Speaker 10: know there might be input. As you know, I think
44:39
Speaker 10: Council Member Annie gave Councilmember rom Since really good input.
44:44
Speaker 10: Chad said, I hadn't thought about that. Thanks, that's a
44:46
Speaker 10: that's a great things. It is supposed to work like this.
44:50
Speaker 10: When you introduce something and shove it down people's throats
44:53
Speaker 10: and not talk to people about it, that's when things
44:55
Speaker 10: go south. I think in any by the way, that's
44:57
Speaker 10: any world we live in, there needs to be more
45:01
Speaker 10: conversation and more understanding. Because when it was brought up,
45:04
Speaker 10: my first concern was the kids out there. I have
45:07
Speaker 10: a you know, I want to have fundraisers. I want
45:10
Speaker 10: to have free speech. I want but boy, oh boy,
45:12
Speaker 10: I'll get the first call if somebody gets hit, if
45:14
Speaker 10: somebody's daughter gets hit when she's standing out there with
45:17
Speaker 10: a you know, car works today, supports your local blah blah,
45:20
Speaker 10: I'll get the first call.
45:22

Speaker 3: I want to talking about the Capital Connector project Mayor.
48:21
Speaker 3: The final public meeting on the project is set for
48:24
Speaker 3: Tomorrow night five thirty on the third floor of the
48:26
Speaker 3: Library Downtown. Now, this whole project is designed to redesign,
48:31
Speaker 3: if you will, the riverfront along the boulevard. What do
48:35
Speaker 3: you hope to achieve here overall? And what's been learned
48:38
Speaker 3: in the first couple of meetings.
48:39
Speaker 10: Well, very quickly, just for your listeners, it was a
48:43
Speaker 10: I got a one point seventy five million dollar planning
48:46
Speaker 10: grant thanks to and only because of Senator Capito and
48:50
Speaker 10: Senator mansion. During that time we started planning what will
48:55
Speaker 10: look like, what is needed, and then we went out
48:59
Speaker 10: for a twenty five million dollar construction grant, which by
49:02
Speaker 10: the way, we got as well, which was huge, huge, huge,
49:06
Speaker 10: But we have learned so much about what is important
49:10
Speaker 10: from our residence. Again, it goes back to the conversation Dave.
49:13
Speaker 10: When you have an open meeting, you think you know
49:16
Speaker 10: what they might want, oh more lighting, wider sidewalks, an
49:19
Speaker 10: area for bikes, an area for walkers, a play place,
49:22
Speaker 10: a place to fill up your water. But there was
49:24
Speaker 10: so much other input that we got from folks including
49:30
Speaker 10: you know, family members who live on the East end.
49:32
Speaker 10: Boyd be nice to have a small park. Or when
49:35
Speaker 10: I'm out and I remember those days with a jog
49:37
Speaker 10: stroller wanting to stop and people are squirming, get them
49:40
Speaker 10: out of the buggy and have a place to you know,
49:42
Speaker 10: sit or meet up with someone. So the input has
49:46
Speaker 10: been absolutely amazing. Again tomorrow night at the Kenawh County
49:50
Speaker 10: Public Library five point thirty. If you can't make it,
49:53
Speaker 10: by the way, and by the way, we've received hundreds

50:19

50:21
Speaker 10: your comments and he'll put him as part of the
50:24
Speaker 10: part of the public record. But it's been a great
50:26
Speaker 10: process and Gai and James Yost, they're just they're superstars.
50:30
Speaker 10: They've helped us through this process and they're great.
50:33
Speaker 3: Quickly talk about what this could mean for Charleston in
50:36
Speaker 3: or overall this.
50:37
Speaker 10: Yeah, you know when I when I started running six
50:40
Speaker 10: years ago for my first term, I said, we're a
50:42
Speaker 10: riverfront city that doesn't use a riverfront. But remember the
50:46
Speaker 10: City of Charleston. I have a budget, I've seven hundred
50:48
Speaker 10: and fifty employees, and I can't just say I think
50:52
Speaker 10: I'm going to do a twenty five million dollar project tomorrow.
50:55
Speaker 10: It takes time, right, there's different projects that we've been
50:58
Speaker 10: investing in, by the way, but going after these grants
51:01
Speaker 10: has helped us and will help us transform the riverfront.
51:05
Speaker 10: If you thought had to was great, if you thought
51:07
Speaker 10: and by the way it is, or the overlook is great,
51:10
Speaker 10: which by the way it is. We are going to
51:14
Speaker 10: take what we have. And by the way, this is
51:16
Speaker 10: from Magic Island. People think, oh it starts it had
51:18
Speaker 10: done going down, No, sir, it goes from Magic Island
51:21
Speaker 10: to the thirty fifth Street bridge. You know, our goal
51:24
Speaker 10: is to make a full bikeable, walkable community and it's
51:28
Speaker 10: not just going to be the riverfront. You know, we're
51:30
Speaker 10: partnering with a whole bunch of folks, including the Business
51:33
Speaker 10: Improvement District, which Lewis Payne chairs and he does an
51:37
Speaker 10: exceptional job to make through streets as well. Having safe
51:41

51:44
