- 1:00Speaker 2: words of encouragement here, Megan and Wendy at gmail dot com.
- 1:05Speaker 2: How did you get me to watch movies from three
- 1:07Speaker 2: years ago? I don't know.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I am already on edge about this review because we
- 1:15Speaker 1: just recorded our review of Mingle all the Way, and
- 1:17Speaker 1: I really felt like that was going to be the
- 1:19Speaker 1: low point of these throwback reviews, and I thought we
- 1:23Speaker 1: were headed in the right direction, and something in Wendy's
- 1:26Speaker 1: tone tells me we very much are not. I have
- 1:28Speaker 1: no idea what she's going to say, But before we
- 1:31Speaker 1: get into it, do you have a synopsis?
- 1:33Speaker 2: I do. As Christmas approaches, Noel is at a crossroads
- 1:39Speaker 2: in her life when it seems that love, a connection
- 1:42Speaker 2: with her father, and her dream career are out of reach.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Let's do some news and notes.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:51Speaker 1: The exterior of the department store, IMDb tells me is
- 1:55Speaker 1: in Stockholm, Sweden.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Oh, it's like a stock stock shot of stock Defly,
- 2:03Speaker 2: there's no department store apparently in Manitoba.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Winnipeg. Winnipeg is Winnipeg and Manitoba. Oh Canadians, y' sorry,
- 2:12Speaker 1: it's Winnipeg, Manitoba. Okay, Well, I.
- 2:15Speaker 2: You know, did this movie? Was it supposed to take
- 2:18Speaker 2: place in New York? I think so. I mean, it's like,
- 2:23Speaker 2: not outrightly said, but I think it's supposed to be
- 2:28Speaker 2: in New York, especially with like the horse drawn carriage
- 2:31Speaker 2: ride and oh yeah, so maybe it's supposed to be
- 2:36Speaker 2: like a Macy's New York Macy's, I mean, because really,
- 2:40Speaker 2: department stores like that hardly exist anymore, except for like
- 2:45Speaker 2: maybe New York, you know, like those big big one. Sure, yes,
- 2:50Speaker 2: I know what you're saying. That's funny.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Candice Cameron Beret brought a suitcase full of shoes from
- 2:55Speaker 1: home for the movie. Some were also provided to her,
- 2:58Speaker 1: but she did come with many money shoes for the
- 3:00Speaker 1: filming of this moviem.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Super dumb.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Well, why this? The snow in this movie is both
- 3:07Speaker 1: real and fake? It actually snowed midway through filming.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Do we know when it when it was filmed?
- 3:14Speaker 1: I don't really care. I'm just happy that it snowed. No,
- 3:16Speaker 1: I don't know when it was filmed. It must have
- 3:17Speaker 1: been late in the season.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Yeah, right, Well this aired Sunday, November twenty fifth, twenty eighteen,
- 3:24Speaker 2: So I wonder when does it snow in Manitoba that
- 3:30Speaker 2: earlier October? Anybody listening from Manitoba please email us Migan
- 3:34Speaker 2: and Windy at gmail dot com and tell us if
- 3:35Speaker 2: it snows in October, because I wonder if that's misinformation
- 3:40Speaker 2: that you've read.
- 3:41Speaker 1: It was from her. It was an interview with Candice
- 3:44Speaker 1: Cameron back get Out Really so I believe it is
- 3:47Speaker 1: gospel okay.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Movie was based on the novel by Beth Harbison A
- 3:53Speaker 2: Shoe Attics Christmas, which is the third book in a
- 3:57Speaker 2: Shoe Attics series. Are you familiar with this uh book
- 4:01Speaker 2: series by any chance? Well, we own A Shoe Addicts Christmas.
- 4:05Speaker 1: We actually bought it for my daughter because she loves
- 4:07Speaker 1: this movie, and I believe she's getting it at some
- 4:11Speaker 1: point this year, like a Thanksgiving gift that has passed
- 4:15Speaker 1: as of the airing of this podcast. But I did
- 4:17Speaker 1: not know it was part of a series. But I
- 4:20Speaker 1: may have to order those for her.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Well, I don't know she'd be into those books. I
- 4:26Speaker 2: don't know I age appropriate. I don't know, because I
- 4:28Speaker 2: was wondering if they were like, you know, schoppahallic series
- 4:33Speaker 2: like kind of gives me the same vibes.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Well, hold On a Shoe Addicts Christmas book hold On
- 4:38Speaker 1: Secrets of a Shoe Addict Shoe Addicts Anonymous. So if
- 4:42Speaker 1: you scroll down to the reviews, it has like commonly
- 4:46Speaker 1: mentioned phrases and it says like Shoe Addicts Addicts Anonymous
- 4:49Speaker 1: chick lit phone sex. Oh no, yikes. So no, I
- 4:55Speaker 1: will not be buying this series for my eleven year
- 4:58Speaker 1: old daughter. I have no problem with phones a book,
- 5:00Speaker 1: just you know not for my preteen Okay, I'm going
- 5:05Speaker 1: to assume that a shoe atticts Christmas is perhaps safer,
- 5:08Speaker 1: but I may need to do a little perusal.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Well, I just wonder if like they took kind of
- 5:13Speaker 2: the premise and then an entirely different story. Yes, yeah,
- 5:19Speaker 2: really possible. Yeah. The film's other writer is Rick Garman,
- 5:24Speaker 2: and he is known for writing this year's twenty twenty
- 5:27Speaker 2: one Christmas at Castle Heart, which at the time of
- 5:31Speaker 2: this recording we have not seen yet. Bear Yes. He
- 5:36Speaker 2: also wrote You Had Me at Aloha, which was also
- 5:39Speaker 2: a twenty twenty one summer film. I think it was
- 5:42Speaker 2: in summer.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Kind of a dud.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I liked it, I remember I didn't love it. I
- 5:47Speaker 2: liked it. But he also wrote Christmas in Evergreen. Now,
- 5:52Speaker 2: isn't that like a big witch?
- 5:53Speaker 1: The first one.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I think he wrote the first one and maybe the
- 5:56Speaker 2: second one.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I enjoyed the first two, the third one not so much.
- 6:02Speaker 2: The party scene at the end where CCB is wearing
- 6:07Speaker 2: the red dress. Yeah, the red dress is from David's bridle.
- 6:11Speaker 2: According it does have bridesmaid vibes. Yeah, it's pretty, it's pretty.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I have a note on the dress later. It is pretty.
- 6:18Speaker 1: That's so sunny. Yeah, yeah, that does not look terribly
- 6:23Speaker 1: different from a bridesmaid dress I once wore in Periwinkle, though.
- 6:26Speaker 2: As a bridesmaid or just to a party as.
- 6:29Speaker 1: A bridesmaid with diet to Matt shoes of course. Oh god,
- 6:33Speaker 1: oh god, it was the year two thousand. Okay, what's
- 6:37Speaker 1: your first impression of this movie?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Now? Are there no news stories? Because this is a
- 6:43Speaker 2: mashup of a Christmas Carol and it's a wonderful life,
- 6:46Speaker 2: am I? Right? Yeah? Right?
- 6:48Speaker 1: However, some sort of Christmas Carol throw back every year,
- 6:51Speaker 1: I know, and I love it.
- 6:52Speaker 2: That's right. Those are the kind of movies I like.
- 6:56Speaker 2: I did find it enjoyable and can what is Cameron Burret?
- 7:01Speaker 2: However you say her last name? She's easy to watch.
- 7:05Speaker 2: She shines on the screen, even though I don't really
- 7:09Speaker 2: enjoy her.
- 7:10Speaker 1: As a person. Oh I agree with all of those
- 7:12Speaker 1: statements right there. As mentioned in a previous episode, I
- 7:16Speaker 1: chose all of the movies that we are watching these
- 7:19Speaker 1: older countdown to Christmas movies, and unlike Mingle all the way,
- 7:24Speaker 1: this one held up to my memories of it as
- 7:28Speaker 1: While not the greatest movie Hallmark has ever made enjoyable
- 7:32Speaker 1: and highly watchable.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess my problem with this is not the movie. Well, okay,
- 7:41Speaker 2: I had a hard time watching it on the Friendly App,
- 7:43Speaker 2: and you and I talked about this off air the
- 7:45Speaker 2: Friendly App, which I loved because it's so easy to
- 7:47Speaker 2: record movies. The problem is it does not resume in
- 7:51Speaker 2: the same spot you left it off. So I had
- 7:53Speaker 2: a hard time like finding my place in this movie,
- 7:56Speaker 2: and I was rewatching scenes and like, I felt like
- 7:59Speaker 2: this was the ending movie for me.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Right, Perhaps if you could have watched it in one sitting,
- 8:03Speaker 1: you might have enjoyed it more.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Maybe I will borrow that DBD that you bought.
- 8:07Speaker 1: We do own it, we own it. What did you
- 8:10Speaker 1: like about this movie?
- 8:12Speaker 2: Well? Watching it in the twenty twenty one lens Jean Smart.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Jean freaking Smart.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Man love her well, first of all, you know, because
- 8:22Speaker 2: she did what was the name of that show, hacks Hacks,
- 8:28Speaker 2: and she was also in an HBO show and I
- 8:30Speaker 2: astown yes, and she is just so good. She's just
- 8:36Speaker 2: so good. So when I watched this and I was like,
- 8:39Speaker 2: Jean Smart's in this, Like, what the hell Jean Smart?
- 8:42Speaker 2: But I just love her so much. She's just such
- 8:45Speaker 2: a wonderful natural actress. I just love her.
- 8:50Speaker 1: If you're not into the gene smart Asance, get into it.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I want to watch all of Designing Women now just
- 8:57Speaker 2: because of her.
- 8:58Speaker 1: You know I do too, I one hundred percent mate.
- 9:04Speaker 2: So I was like, should we continue Patreon and Designing Women?
- 9:08Speaker 1: Uh, I'm into it. I'm into it. Okay, maybe I'm
- 9:14Speaker 1: into it.
- 9:15Speaker 2: We could do a half hour show, right, a thirty
- 9:17Speaker 2: minute sitcom show, yes, yes, maybe.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Easily, especially because episodes are gonna be like twenty two
- 9:23Speaker 1: minutes with commercials. I know, I think we should do it.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Throw back to your comment about CCB's dress at the gala,
- 9:29Speaker 1: her dress at the gallup really makes me want to
- 9:33Speaker 1: dress up for Christmas.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Oh, that's funny.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Not because it's the most amazing dress ever. I thought
- 9:37Speaker 1: it was pretty. I think Canda's Cameron beret is very
- 9:40Speaker 1: pretty on the outside at least. And I found myself
- 9:45Speaker 1: yesterday googling holiday party dresses.
- 9:49Speaker 2: I mean, David's bridal is where you need to look.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I don't want that level of a holiday party dress.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I found myself on the Anthropology website, And let me
- 9:57Speaker 1: tell you, I am not the person who is spending
- 10:00Speaker 1: two hundred and fifty dollars in a dress I'm gonna
- 10:01Speaker 1: wear for three hours on Christmas. That's not my particular
- 10:05Speaker 1: holiday vibe. But I there's so many beautiful dresses out there,
- 10:10Speaker 1: and we have a holiday party that I typically wear
- 10:13Speaker 1: Jean's on a sweater for, but I kind of want
- 10:15Speaker 1: to wear a fun, do it up dress. I want
- 10:20Speaker 1: to dress up for Christmas Eve at my parents' house.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I don't know if I will take a look at
- 10:25Speaker 1: our Instagram guys, if I did dress up, the proof
- 10:27Speaker 1: will be there. Well, we're gonna shop tomorrow, so maybe
- 10:31Speaker 1: we'll find a dress.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Yes. Speaking of wardrobe, I loved Cameron's wardrobe in this top.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Oh same, and I'm guessing that her movies have a
- 10:42Speaker 2: good budget for wardrobe and perhaps she.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Gets some input on that.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, Like I have every scene she was in, I
- 10:49Speaker 2: thought she looked really good, like beautiful, you know, even
- 10:54Speaker 2: on Fuller House, which I've seen every episode of because
- 10:56Speaker 2: my kids are into it. I think she's a really
- 10:57Speaker 2: cute dresser on that show as well. So I have
- 11:01Speaker 2: to believe either she works with people that you know,
- 11:04Speaker 2: really know her look, or she has some sort of
- 11:08Speaker 2: input because I agree, she looked great and one of
- 11:11Speaker 2: the things I liked, the clothes, the shoes, the department
- 11:13Speaker 2: store setting, all that really worked for me. Yeah. That
- 11:17Speaker 2: felt super nostalgic for me too on some level. And
- 11:21Speaker 2: I don't know why. Maybe just you know, department stores
- 11:24Speaker 2: at Christmas time like feels special in a way.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Yes, And I love a department store setting for a movie.
- 11:31Speaker 1: There's a movie I think we've discussed it with Joanna
- 11:33Speaker 1: Garcia where she's a chef with some sort of magic
- 11:36Speaker 1: and it's set in a Henry Bendall. I love it.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I don't know that movie, and I think I might
- 11:43Speaker 2: want to watch it.
- 11:44Speaker 1: It's not Joanna Garcia.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Who is it?
- 11:46Speaker 1: It's Sarah Michelle Geller.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Oh. I love Sarah Michelle Geller. Oh. I thought you
- 11:52Speaker 2: were actually talking about a Hallmark movie. But that's like a.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Oh No movie simply Resistible from maineteen ninety nine.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure I've seen Does she have red hair
- 12:02Speaker 2: in it? Is that why you were thinking it was
- 12:04Speaker 2: Joanna Garcia?
- 12:05Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 12:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, Well, still like, why isn't she in Hamewark movies?
- 12:11Speaker 1: Right? That really feels like her way to make a
- 12:13Speaker 1: comeback because they only take two weeks to film.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I agree. I wonder why she's not.
- 12:21Speaker 1: M Did she take a step back to like stay
- 12:24Speaker 1: home with her family because you could take two weeks?
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, smg ccp okay, I have hold. I really
- 12:33Speaker 2: like Luke McFarlane. He's one of my favorite Hallmark dudes.
- 12:36Speaker 2: He's not a super wowye zowie for me, but I
- 12:39Speaker 2: just enjoy him as an actor. He's nice to look at.
- 12:43Speaker 2: He was in one of my favorite movies from this year,
- 12:48Speaker 2: twenty twenty one, taking a Shot at Life. I really
- 12:51Speaker 2: liked him in that, and I liked him in this.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I liked him a lot too. And finally, this movie
- 13:00Speaker 2: had a sweet message that I liked a lot, and
- 13:04Speaker 2: I think I saw it several times because of my
- 13:07Speaker 2: problem with the friendly But it's when Jeane Smart is
- 13:11Speaker 2: telling her the slave story about how the guy that
- 13:14Speaker 2: dies and then whatever, and I just really liked the
- 13:18Speaker 2: message about taking help when it comes and staying aware
- 13:21Speaker 2: that these little miracles are having every day around you.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I like that part a lot. Well.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I like that you took such a positive take on
- 13:29Speaker 1: that story. I also love that story, and it's a
- 13:32Speaker 1: story that's been told with on a lot of variations,
- 13:35Speaker 1: but in twenty twenty one, I look at this story
- 13:37Speaker 1: and I thank all of you people who are like,
- 13:41Speaker 1: I don't need to wear a mask. God's gonna protect me.
- 13:43Speaker 1: It's all right, I don't need to get vaccinated. God's
- 13:45Speaker 1: gonna protect me. What part of your belief stops you
- 13:50Speaker 1: from believing that maybe God sent protection in the form
- 13:52Speaker 1: of doctors and epidemiologists and all these other smart people
- 13:56Speaker 1: who know things, and now he's like, hey, dummies, I
- 13:59Speaker 1: sent you.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Hell, that's very interesting.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Okay, that's what I think all the time. I'm so sorry.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I know everyone's so tired of that, but I can't
- 14:10Speaker 1: help it. I had that same note.
- 14:12Speaker 2: All right, Moving on, what did you wish for from
- 14:15Speaker 2: this movie?
- 14:16Speaker 1: I wish that Hallmark would stop trying to tell me
- 14:18Speaker 1: that photos that are black and white are quote great photography.
- 14:23Speaker 1: That's how Hallmark tells you this is a good photo.
- 14:26Speaker 1: They put it in black and white.
- 14:28Speaker 2: This is artsy, this is something to look at. Yeah,
- 14:32Speaker 2: I agree.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Did you watch a gingerbread miracle.
- 14:36Speaker 2: A little bit of it? Yes, when she took all
- 14:38Speaker 2: the pictures of the place for sale, and it's like
- 14:42Speaker 2: of a baker's hands, in black and white. That's not
- 14:45Speaker 2: how you sell a property.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. So first of all, yes, she takes
- 14:49Speaker 1: photos of a property in black and white. I don't
- 14:51Speaker 1: want to see something I would like to buy in
- 14:53Speaker 1: black and white. I would like to see what it
- 14:55Speaker 1: actually looks like.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:57Speaker 1: And then yes, they make all this fuss the baker's
- 15:00Speaker 1: hands kneading the dough in a property listing. They go
- 15:05Speaker 1: on and on about how this up close, soft focus
- 15:08Speaker 1: shot of the baker's hands make her this incredible photographer.
- 15:12Speaker 1: That was my biggest issue. Takes me out of the moment. Hollmark.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Perhaps you could find an actually good photographer to take
- 15:18Speaker 1: some photos and then we wouldn't need to put them
- 15:20Speaker 1: in black and white.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And I'm sure those are just stock photos that they
- 15:24Speaker 2: just pull off the internet anyway, right.
- 15:27Speaker 1: The one of the lady for sure, The one of Jake,
- 15:30Speaker 1: I mean, that's not a great photo anyway, but anybody
- 15:33Speaker 1: could have gotten that shot with a DSLR hot take.
- 15:37Speaker 2: With the camera phone with your iPhone. Oh my god. Okay,
- 15:43Speaker 2: what I wish for in this movie is that the
- 15:45Speaker 2: story jumped around a lot, and if one is casually
- 15:48Speaker 2: watching like myself, hard to keep up. It's hard to
- 15:52Speaker 2: keep up. It's super confusing. And that's why again, like
- 15:55Speaker 2: I felt like I watched this movie fourteen times because
- 15:57Speaker 2: I was like, where am I in time and space?
- 16:00Speaker 2: I don't know, Like I realize like clothes and hair
- 16:03Speaker 2: are supposed to help the viewer know where Noel is at,
- 16:06Speaker 2: but like it wasn't super totally helpful, not to me.
- 16:10Speaker 1: So I've seen this movie three or four times prior
- 16:12Speaker 1: to this, but I did sit down yesterday and watched
- 16:14Speaker 1: it from start to finish, but I was doing my nails.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I was, you know, I was watching. I was present,
- 16:21Speaker 1: but I was, you know, eighty five percent, and so
- 16:24Speaker 1: every once in a while I would look up and
- 16:25Speaker 1: I was like, wait a minute, why do we keep
- 16:27Speaker 1: There's so much jumping. It's a lot of jumping, right,
- 16:31Speaker 1: it is, yeah, and her hair does help, but it's
- 16:34Speaker 1: also I'm like, is this the future? Is this the past?
- 16:37Speaker 1: What's happening? I also wish that homework would say, guess what,
- 16:42Speaker 1: it's okay to be single. We don't need to write
- 16:45Speaker 1: every female character in our movies who happens to be
- 16:49Speaker 1: single as someone who needs to be rescued from the
- 16:52Speaker 1: throes of singleness. My goodness, this movie had so much
- 16:55Speaker 1: going on for it, the relationship with her dad, being
- 16:59Speaker 1: in a job that she didn't perhaps love. We didn't
- 17:01Speaker 1: also need the storyline that she's pining away for this
- 17:05Speaker 1: ex who she didn't even really like. We could have
- 17:07Speaker 1: left that alone and the love story could have been
- 17:10Speaker 1: secondary to all these other life changes.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Right, I agree, I agree what she wished for. Yeah,
- 17:18Speaker 2: two things I didn't love the shoe promise. I kind
- 17:21Speaker 2: of thought it was silly. It's the again, Like the
- 17:26Speaker 2: title doesn't really go with the movie because the shoes
- 17:30Speaker 2: were to catalyst to get back and forth in the
- 17:32Speaker 2: future and the past and whatever. I get it, but
- 17:36Speaker 2: it what I just I just thought it was dumb.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I may need to read the book and figure out
- 17:42Speaker 1: how much the book aligns with the movie and figure
- 17:46Speaker 1: out if they just really took mild inspiration or a
- 17:50Speaker 1: lot of inspiration from the title.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I need you to buy that book, all.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Right, Oh, we own it the book. Yes, that's what
- 17:57Speaker 1: I was telling you. We have the book ready to
- 17:59Speaker 1: go for my daughter, and I was considering buying the
- 18:00Speaker 1: other two until I saw Phone Sex in the review.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Well, you should probably read the book to make sure
- 18:05Speaker 2: that book doesn't have phone sex in it.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Indeed, I did say that at the top of this episode.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Okay, I was confused.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. That's okay. We own the book and
- 18:12Speaker 1: the DVD.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Okay. My final thing is I kind of wish there
- 18:17Speaker 2: was less God stuff in this movie, but I'm not
- 18:21Speaker 2: surprised because it was a CCP movie, but it was
- 18:24Speaker 2: heavy handed faith God related content. Agreed.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I also wished This is a mild complaint, but I
- 18:33Speaker 1: hate it when people tell other people they need to
- 18:36Speaker 1: live a little bit quiet lives are fine. I'm the
- 18:39Speaker 1: kind of person who lots of people probably think are boring,
- 18:42Speaker 1: but that's okay, Like I'm okay for me. There are
- 18:45Speaker 1: people who like me. And also I'm also boring in
- 18:48Speaker 1: a crowd that I'm not comfortable with. So I have
- 18:51Speaker 1: vivid memories. I had a friend in my twenties who
- 18:54Speaker 1: had kind of this like friend renaissance, and he found
- 18:57Speaker 1: this new group of friends and he tried to meld
- 18:59Speaker 1: his old group, which included me, with his new group,
- 19:02Speaker 1: and it was not a good fit. And those people
- 19:04Speaker 1: thought we were super boring, and I was super boring
- 19:06Speaker 1: because I was not comfortable with them. But also some
- 19:10Speaker 1: people are just like happy live in their lives. I
- 19:14Speaker 1: hate live a little. It's like when people tell you
- 19:16Speaker 1: to smile, I want to smack.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Hey. I think people think I'm boring too. I think
- 19:20Speaker 2: that's why you and me like pop off when we're
- 19:25Speaker 2: we're like to like we're a good time together. I think, well,
- 19:29Speaker 2: I also.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Think when you find your people, you're comfortable. But also
- 19:34Speaker 1: I like, I am not the like I need loud
- 19:38Speaker 1: excitement in my life kind of person. Yeah, I don't
- 19:41Speaker 1: think that. I find it.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Go out every night because I need to live. I'm
- 19:45Speaker 2: good like reading a book that's living too. You know.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I'm happy to spend a night in my pajamas decorating
- 19:50Speaker 1: my Christmas tree, just like Candice Cameron Beret was in
- 19:52Speaker 1: this movie.
- 19:53Speaker 2: M okay, I have a question before we move on
- 19:58Speaker 2: to digit see that getting locked in a department store
- 20:02Speaker 2: is that fun or terrifying?
- 20:04Speaker 1: You know, maybe both. I liked the idea of like
- 20:07Speaker 1: she's just gonna put on all these Christmas pajamas and
- 20:10Speaker 1: eat these treats. And I did appreciate her boss was
- 20:12Speaker 1: like make yourself comfortable. So she's like, yeah, I'm gonna
- 20:14Speaker 1: wear these. I mean, I would be like, where's the
- 20:16Speaker 1: most comfortable pajamas in the store, Give me those slippers.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Those are mine now you locked me in here. But
- 20:20Speaker 1: also that big, dark, empty space would terrify me.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, first of all, going down into the basement
- 20:28Speaker 2: of the store would probably terrify me, like I would
- 20:31Speaker 2: not want that job. And then to come upstairs like
- 20:35Speaker 2: nobody knew you were down in the basement. That's really scary.
- 20:39Speaker 2: And then come upstairs everybody's gone, nobody notified anybody whatever,
- 20:45Speaker 2: Like that's scary to me. Yeah, being inside trapped, well
- 20:49Speaker 2: you're not trapped. She wasn't trapped, she just was locked in.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Somebody was coming to get here. But yeah, I would
- 20:55Speaker 2: be like, oh, let me look at all these like
- 20:58Speaker 2: facial products this hole. Yes, lamaire, I'm gonna put on
- 21:03Speaker 2: some really expensive pajamas, and yeah, I don't know, I
- 21:08Speaker 2: think it might be kind of fun.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I would ever close a department store like that in
- 21:13Speaker 1: a storm. I don't know, after hours, you think you've
- 21:17Speaker 1: got like your cleaning crew coming in. There's probably a
- 21:20Speaker 1: security situation. Somebody's there. But if they had to close
- 21:23Speaker 1: it because the weather was so bad, that they wanted
- 21:25Speaker 1: everybody home. Would that actually happen?
- 21:27Speaker 2: I don't know people who live in very cold, snowy
- 21:30Speaker 2: weather where stuff like this happens. Please email us Megan
- 21:32Speaker 2: and Windy at gmail dot com. I just I would
- 21:35Speaker 2: love to.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Know, like, right they close school, do they also close
- 21:38Speaker 1: the nordstrum?
- 21:39Speaker 2: And does security not come in? Like? Yeah, I need
- 21:41Speaker 2: to know that sun.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Now they're not polishing the floors while everybody else cloes home?
- 21:45Speaker 1: Okay did you see that for me? As like a
- 21:48Speaker 1: did you see that slash? WTF?
- 21:51Speaker 2: Okay? Okay.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Does the HR manager in a department store typically plan
- 21:55Speaker 1: their holiday party?
- 21:56Speaker 2: I don't know. Do they? I doubt it.
- 21:59Speaker 1: It seems like they're pretty busy otherwise, but I think.
- 22:02Speaker 2: They would be really busy with like sexual harassments, setting
- 22:06Speaker 2: up a four oh one k's I don't know.
- 22:08Speaker 1: End of the year bonuses. Yes, yeah, I don't hurt.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Entire job is like decorating the store and planning this party.
- 22:17Speaker 1: We never see it in an office. I'm not slamming
- 22:19Speaker 1: HR professionals, but it seems like they spend a lot
- 22:21Speaker 1: of time in their office.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Yeah, like they're managing people, right, they're dealing with fires.
- 22:26Speaker 2: They're not I don't know. Yeah, they're not planning parties.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Come on, now, why didn't they just give her a
- 22:31Speaker 2: different job title then, Like they should have given her
- 22:35Speaker 2: like merchandising or something like that. But I a merchandiser
- 22:40Speaker 2: wouldn't also plan a party either, So I don't know.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I think the goal was to give her a job
- 22:45Speaker 1: that was boring so that they could play on this
- 22:47Speaker 1: like you are not living out your true self. Perhaps
- 22:50Speaker 1: if she was in merchandising that that would be a
- 22:52Speaker 1: fun job and they couldn't really play on you need
- 22:54Speaker 1: to be a full time photographer. Yeah, speaking of which,
- 22:58Speaker 1: there is no chance that the department store is hiring
- 23:00Speaker 1: a brand new photographer for their ad campaign. Oh I know, right,
- 23:05Speaker 1: come on now, so dumb, we're gonna hire you for that.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Nope, No you're not. No you're not.
- 23:10Speaker 1: No, Nope, Nope.
- 23:11Speaker 2: That's like, don't they go through like ad agencies and
- 23:15Speaker 2: all that stuff is planned like way far in advance. No. No,
- 23:20Speaker 2: there's one scene where Jean Smart is driving the horse
- 23:24Speaker 2: carriage and CCB and Luke are in the back. And
- 23:28Speaker 2: here's here's my problem with like these kind of movies,
- 23:31Speaker 2: like Candice is only able to see Jean smart right, Like,
- 23:36Speaker 2: that's for Guardian Angel. So wouldn't Luke be like, who's
- 23:42Speaker 2: driving the carriage because he can't see her?
- 23:45Speaker 1: Well, there's another scene where she's the chef and she's
- 23:47Speaker 1: clearly there too, and she's trying to hide her face. Yeah,
- 23:51Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like, that doesn't make sense. That doesn't make sense.
- 23:56Speaker 1: No, it doesn't.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Would have the people like seeing this, like carriage being
- 24:01Speaker 2: driven through Central Park without an actual person guiding the
- 24:06Speaker 2: horses might think that's an emergency. I don't know, so stupid.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Hey, the Christmas tree shoe tree is cute, but also
- 24:15Speaker 1: perhaps a waste of shoes.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Were they all red shoes too?
- 24:19Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 24:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean if you're getting like cheap red shoes
- 24:23Speaker 2: from somewhere to create a display, okay, fine, but yes,
- 24:27Speaker 2: like that's a waste of shoes. I hope they donated
- 24:30Speaker 2: those shoes or.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Something, right, And I can't resell them after they've been
- 24:34Speaker 1: stacked together and covered in dust all seasons, huh.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Holy.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Also, you're missing prime red shoe selling season, so it
- 24:40Speaker 1: seems like you're not going to be able to sell
- 24:42Speaker 1: them after the holidays. Anyway, but kind of cute too,
- 24:45Speaker 1: like a kind of a cute display. I thought it
- 24:47Speaker 1: was a cute display, but my brain went, that's a waste.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Oh my god. We yeah, it's some of these movies
- 24:55Speaker 2: are so hard to watch because of that kind of stuff,
- 24:57Speaker 2: you know, you know at the beginning, like when she's
- 25:01Speaker 2: getting dressed and she goes to put on like her
- 25:04Speaker 2: cross necklace, and then she decides to put it down,
- 25:07Speaker 2: and then her dad asks her about it later and
- 25:10Speaker 2: she's like, oh, yeah, it doesn't go with my shoes.
- 25:13Speaker 2: I was like, what a simple like gold, delicate necklace
- 25:19Speaker 2: does not go with your shoes. I don't get it.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I think the point there is that maybe she's like
- 25:25Speaker 1: questioning her faith and in comes Charlie to reaffirm her.
- 25:30Speaker 1: But that's just her excuse for her dad as to
- 25:33Speaker 1: why she's not wearing Oh I think she always wears. Okay,
- 25:36Speaker 1: thank you for explaining that to me, because that makes
- 25:39Speaker 1: much more sense, because I was like, that's an interesting direction,
- 25:42Speaker 1: like why would she like think about it and then
- 25:44Speaker 1: like decide not to go with it. Like I think
- 25:47Speaker 1: they're set in the scene there. I have a couple
- 25:49Speaker 1: lol moments.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm me here.
- 25:51Speaker 1: One is when she gets locked in and she calls
- 25:53Speaker 1: her boss and he's sitting by the fire like he's
- 25:55Speaker 1: on Masterpiece theater. She's sitting alone in a room, not whything,
- 26:00Speaker 1: not reading anything, just fireplace and not even looking at
- 26:03Speaker 1: the fire by the way it's behind him, just looks
- 26:06Speaker 1: like he's about to read you a story. When Charlie
- 26:10Speaker 1: first shows up and she's trying to explain what's happening
- 26:13Speaker 1: to Noell, she goes, oh, they said you would be skeptical,
- 26:18Speaker 1: and Noel goes, are they doctors?
- 26:21Speaker 2: Yeah? Right?
- 26:22Speaker 1: And finally, when Jeane Smart is the invisible cook, she
- 26:26Speaker 1: uses this fake French accent to throw them off, and
- 26:29Speaker 1: I just thought it was funny. She was like, oh, no,
- 26:31Speaker 1: we shall make the cookies now, as if a French
- 26:34Speaker 1: chef is also making Christmas cookies anyway, a French.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Pastry cheft, I don't know. That would be at a
- 26:42Speaker 2: department Were they in the department store during that scene?
- 26:45Speaker 1: I don't know where they were.
- 26:46Speaker 2: I can't remember. I don't know. I don't know.
- 26:48Speaker 1: And finally, the gala is to support the fire station.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Why doesn't the fire station get any say in what
- 26:56Speaker 1: happens at this event.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I did not understand that at all, other than
- 27:02Speaker 2: the department store is paying for it. So she's like, well,
- 27:04Speaker 2: if I'm paying for it, then I want it to
- 27:06Speaker 2: be a certain way. I don't know.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Well, in the end, we find out that Noel never
- 27:12Speaker 1: tells Jake that he's been removed and never tells Jake
- 27:16Speaker 1: that they're not going in his direction. But he goes, hey,
- 27:20Speaker 1: they're paying it should be their event. So if that
- 27:22Speaker 1: was going to be his reaction all along, we have
- 27:25Speaker 1: all once again built up conflict for absolutely nothing exactly.
- 27:31Speaker 2: That's see, I'm dying to know. Like, what do you
- 27:35Speaker 2: give this movie? Since you rewatched it yesterday?
- 27:38Speaker 1: This is still a solid three stars for me?
- 27:41Speaker 2: What?
- 27:42Speaker 1: Yes, what did you rate it?
- 27:44Speaker 2: Two point seventy five?
- 27:46Speaker 1: I mean, okay about that far off. It's far off
- 27:49Speaker 1: visually pleasing for me to watch. Uh, and it's really
- 27:55Speaker 1: without my girl's gone Hallmark glasses on, it's an enjoyable
- 27:58Speaker 1: movie for me to watch.
- 27:59Speaker 2: I preferred if I only had Christmas from twenty twenty
- 28:04Speaker 2: so much more over this one.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Oh veto for real? If I only had Christmas is
- 28:10Speaker 1: distracting for me to watch because it's so much like,
- 28:13Speaker 1: where's where's the Wizard of ozz Uster Egg, Where's the
- 28:15Speaker 1: Wizard of Ozzy's to Egg? Where's the Wizard of East Egg?
- 28:17Speaker 1: And the entire time I was watching, I was like, Oh, oh,
- 28:20Speaker 1: that's because of this, and that's because of the Cowardly Lion,
- 28:23Speaker 1: and that's because of the yellow Brick road. And I
- 28:27Speaker 1: thought it was silly, like, oh, Candice Cameron Beret is
- 28:30Speaker 1: our Hallmark movie darling, so we're gonna let her tell
- 28:33Speaker 1: us to make a movie about the Wizard of Oz.
- 28:34Speaker 1: It is also somehow a Christmas movie. I still liked it.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I'm a hater. Thank you so much for listening to
- 28:41Speaker 1: this episode of the podcast. Later this week, on Thursday,
- 28:43Speaker 1: we will be discussing a Christmas Waltz from twenty twenty
- 28:47Speaker 1: and who. I'm excited to talk about that one. I
- 28:51Speaker 1: do think. I do think that one lives up to
- 28:54Speaker 1: my memory of it. So make sure to come back
- 28:57Speaker 1: for our discussion of that movie. Thanks so much for
- 28:59Speaker 1: being listeners of the podcast. Happy Holidays, everybody, goodbye bye.
