- 0:05Speaker 1: We should finish this pizza before Trevor gets here, because Jesus,
- 0:10Speaker 1: he will hoover.
- 0:12Speaker 2: That You've eaten about two thirds of the.
- 0:17Speaker 1: He will hoover it. He'll be like, he'll be like,
- 0:20Speaker 1: what's happening?
- 0:20Speaker 3: Boys typically listen. I know for a fact that Paul
- 0:26Speaker 3: bought this watch.
- 0:28Speaker 1: What Trevor does. He's going to put this pizza on
- 0:30Speaker 1: like it came up plate, chop it up with a
- 0:32Speaker 1: credit card and snuffer like Nadia Bartow. He's an impression
- 0:37Speaker 1: of Trevor going a subway eating a foot long sub Next.
- 0:43Speaker 3: That's unbelievable. God, I come here for this? What do
- 0:46Speaker 3: I come here?
- 0:46Speaker 1: That's I've missed you. That's why you've g got a
- 0:48Speaker 1: beautiful watch?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Why do I come here? That's with things? With things, No,
- 0:53Speaker 3: I think I can talk about WHI things. Nova is
- 0:54Speaker 3: what it is. It's beautiful, but it's a smart watch
- 0:56Speaker 3: SOG and pleasure monitoring and watch. Yeah, it's funny. I
- 1:01Speaker 3: was at Abu Dhabi airport a couple of weeks ago,
- 1:03Speaker 3: and I was looking because I always look at watches
- 1:05Speaker 3: because I'm an idiot and have bought some. And I
- 1:07Speaker 3: was like, they didn't have a Tag store. I'm a tagman,
- 1:09Speaker 3: but they had an Omega store. That's I was just
- 1:12Speaker 3: entertaining the dude making things. I was gonna buy a watch.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I was never gonna buy one, but I looked at
- 1:15Speaker 3: one and it's Fedinkham look like this, you know, metal
- 1:18Speaker 3: band blue, and.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I thought, what are you're going for? What were you
- 1:21Speaker 1: looking at?
- 1:21Speaker 3: It was? I don't know what it was, but I
- 1:23Speaker 3: was just rarer.
- 1:24Speaker 1: You look at that thing. Oh yeah, that would be
- 1:26Speaker 1: it would be like the.
- 1:28Speaker 3: For a Mega. It was something like a Sea Master
- 1:30Speaker 3: or something anyway, looked like that. It was like seven
- 1:32Speaker 3: grand euro And I get back open this thing from
- 1:35Speaker 3: with ings and I'm like, shit, that looks like the
- 1:36Speaker 3: watch I just looked at. I'm very happy with it.
- 1:39Speaker 3: So you don't have to get a full touch screen
- 1:42Speaker 3: that's actually smart watch, because the.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Thing I hate about the Apple Watch is that it's
- 1:46Speaker 2: an Apple watch and it's.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Not really Everyone knows you're wearing an Apple watch. They
- 1:49Speaker 3: know you're in the Apple ecosystem, and let's be real,
- 1:52Speaker 3: most people don't do anything with this mart watch other
- 1:54Speaker 3: than look at the time. So this is a beautiful
- 1:56Speaker 3: analog watch.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Or midway through a conversation fucking lifted up and read
- 2:00Speaker 2: a message in front of you, which I think is
- 2:01Speaker 2: the rudest fucking thing in the world.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Very rude.
- 2:03Speaker 1: It's like when you go out to buy a Porsche
- 2:05Speaker 1: but instead you just end up with a Coopra Born.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I would never go out and buy a push a
- 2:10Speaker 3: buy a Coopra. Yeah, I still love that car quickly
- 2:13Speaker 3: as well. Just on the Porsch thing. Did you see
- 2:15Speaker 3: they announced pricing for the Tykhan.
- 2:18Speaker 1: GT the most boring car ever.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but this is the one that's oh sorry, yeah,
- 2:22Speaker 2: the nevergering record time. It was I think it was
- 2:27Speaker 2: something like ten dollars less than a GT three, so
- 2:29Speaker 2: it was over four hundred thousand dollars, which is clinically insane.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, but people are clinically insane. You see what
- 2:36Speaker 3: cars are on the road. Yeah, I mean people are.
- 2:39Speaker 3: But hang on, do you not like the ty caon?
- 2:41Speaker 1: No? No, no, sorry, I had in my head like
- 2:45Speaker 1: the bloody ev that.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's a bulk cellar.
- 2:48Speaker 1: That's terrible. I get it. I get the important of it.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I mean, that's a car that.
- 2:51Speaker 3: You don't think it will be as a lev So I'm.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Hoping My understanding is they're actually going to make a
- 2:56Speaker 2: normal looking version of it, because I think the one
- 2:57Speaker 2: that they've shown so far is like a who pay.
- 3:00Speaker 2: It haven't looked because it just looks frumpy, right and strange,
- 3:05Speaker 2: and it just climbed in price like a mccahn used
- 3:07Speaker 2: to start with that Foce in them Deturbot, like eighty
- 3:09Speaker 2: or ninety grand. Yeah, this is starting it well over
- 3:11Speaker 2: one hundred grand now because it's electric only.
- 3:13Speaker 3: I was going to so that's the electric parody problem.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it.
- 3:16Speaker 3: So we've discussed before. It's still I reckon it's still
- 3:18Speaker 3: at fifteen to twenty grand. The parody absolutely differential, but.
- 3:21Speaker 2: It was meant to be. I remember they were all
- 3:23Speaker 2: spouting by twenty twenty five that would be dead even.
- 3:26Speaker 3: But if you talk to some people like I remember
- 3:29Speaker 3: Luke Todd from BYD Who's you know. I like the bloke.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I like him, I love his story about him.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Later, yeah, I like the guy.
- 3:37Speaker 3: But he would talk about I remember the Dolphin. When
- 3:40Speaker 3: he was talking about the Dolphin luck a year before
- 3:42Speaker 3: it coming, he goes, I've got one coming that's going
- 3:43Speaker 3: to be it's going to be parody, you know. No, no, no,
- 3:45Speaker 3: And I'm like, it's not it's come out at forty grand,
- 3:49Speaker 3: I can get out. I can think at nine thirty
- 3:50Speaker 3: for almost half that we're not at parody, We're not
- 3:54Speaker 3: even clombed.
- 3:55Speaker 1: But to the EV world, I think they did pretty
- 3:56Speaker 1: well with that.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I mean they took on the yes, but do you
- 3:58Speaker 3: do you really think that thirty eight thousand dollars is
- 4:03Speaker 3: good value for such a small car.
- 4:05Speaker 2: And your average Australian at the moment that they are
- 4:07Speaker 2: literally struggling to pay their bills and you want to
- 4:10Speaker 2: go get a car that is the size of a
- 4:12Speaker 2: slight larger than a Yaris or something, and you want
- 4:15Speaker 2: them to pay forty grand for it.
- 4:17Speaker 3: If it was thirty two to thirty five, which is
- 4:19Speaker 3: not a big drop, it would sell unbelievable numbers.
- 4:23Speaker 1: But look, the EV landscape is completely different when you're
- 4:26Speaker 1: talking prices. I think from what they've put out for
- 4:28Speaker 1: the price, I think it's pretty good.
- 4:29Speaker 3: No great car. I would probably get it. I might
- 4:33Speaker 3: get it. I would get it over the MG four.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I think MG four you had to trick it
- 4:37Speaker 1: on if you line them up. The X to me
- 4:40Speaker 1: was a real letdown. Yeah, I hoped so much for that,
- 4:44Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, it's just a quick in
- 4:46Speaker 1: a straight.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Line, doesn't go very far because it has the small battery. Yeah,
- 4:51Speaker 2: quick for a brief picture.
- 4:54Speaker 1: It just doesn't feel the road. It was such a letdown.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Can I tell you about my week getting the I
- 4:59Speaker 1: got a Supra?
- 5:01Speaker 2: Oh yes, like a cool provid Are.
- 5:03Speaker 3: You trying to take the piece out of my cooper again?
- 5:05Speaker 1: No?
- 5:05Speaker 3: Okay, ah, anyway, Toyota Supra.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So I got a Toyota Supra twenty twenty four, literally
- 5:13Speaker 1: dressed off.
- 5:14Speaker 3: I used to have one of those. Sold it. Yeah,
- 5:16Speaker 3: I fucking raved about Oh this is amazing, put Japanese
- 5:20Speaker 3: plates on it and everything, and then got rid of it. Unbelievable, barrassed,
- 5:23Speaker 3: I think even ambassadored for the plate people.
- 5:26Speaker 1: How embarrassed?
- 5:26Speaker 3: Were you?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Embarrassed? Japanese plates?
- 5:29Speaker 3: It doesn't ever that much money and just go through cars.
- 5:31Speaker 3: I don't want this one anymore.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Just imagine having a Japanese style plates. Did you go
- 5:35Speaker 1: to like cose of play conventions when you have that?
- 5:38Speaker 1: So anyway, I had the Supra.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Stop saying that and it's Coopra and Supra. All right?
- 5:45Speaker 1: All got now?
- 5:48Speaker 3: Now?
- 5:49Speaker 1: So I had this car and it's literally just come
- 5:50Speaker 1: off the factory floor like it had done about eight caves.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Nice.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And they said, like the guy at the holding yard,
- 5:57Speaker 1: the MSR or whatever it is, you know where they
- 5:59Speaker 1: keep all these He's like, yep, he's as rough as anything.
- 6:02Speaker 3: He's actually mad.
- 6:03Speaker 1: He's listen, don't fuck this up, all right, Like he's
- 6:07Speaker 1: a soda guy that would look at my four year
- 6:08Speaker 1: old and go, you fucking give them me a lip ye,
- 6:11Speaker 1: Like he's he's that guy. So anyway, he's like, don't
- 6:14Speaker 1: fuck this up, like please, please, don't fuck this one up.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Like I haven't fucked that many he's like, but he's like, please, look,
- 6:21Speaker 1: they need it for a photo shoot. It's a proper
- 6:24Speaker 1: toyo to photo shoot. It's for a World WLD campaign. Please,
- 6:26Speaker 1: Like the instructions are, don't don't funk this up, no worries.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Two days later, I fucked this up, so the engines
- 6:32Speaker 1: that you do. The engine light came on. I drove it,
- 6:35Speaker 1: That's what I did. I just drove it and the
- 6:37Speaker 1: engine light came on. And by the way, I just
- 6:39Speaker 1: don't think it's the smartest idea to give someone like
- 6:41Speaker 1: me or anyone in this room. Really a car that's
- 6:44Speaker 1: done just eight kilometers, Like you generally break these cars
- 6:48Speaker 1: in properly before you hand them over, especially to job.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Not that I'm pressed or anything, but like, especially if
- 6:54Speaker 1: you're gonna hand it to me press people, How do
- 6:56Speaker 1: you identify? What's my pronoun? I sit down for a
- 7:00Speaker 1: living and talking to a stick, that's it.
- 7:02Speaker 3: What do you write on your immigration form? What do
- 7:04Speaker 3: you write on your immigration form? Paul?
- 7:06Speaker 2: It depends. Sometimes I do journalists, sometimes I do engineers,
- 7:10Speaker 2: sometimes I do entertainer. Just kidding.
- 7:13Speaker 1: If you go to China, do you do you leave
- 7:16Speaker 1: out journalists?
- 7:17Speaker 2: Absolutely? Yeah, well really no, that depends who's asking. Actually, yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 2: move on.
- 7:23Speaker 1: No anyway, So what happened with this?
- 7:27Speaker 3: So you stopped on the side of the road here or.
- 7:29Speaker 1: No, no, no, But what happened was the warning on
- 7:32Speaker 1: it on the entertainment was the drive train is fucked.
- 7:36Speaker 1: This is going to lose power. So generally, if it's
- 7:39Speaker 1: like yeah, so when it goes into like limp mode,
- 7:42Speaker 1: if you like, that's bad because it means it's trying
- 7:44Speaker 1: to preserve itself. So I called them up and I'm like,
- 7:49Speaker 1: this isn't good and I was planning to take it
- 7:51Speaker 1: to the Blue Mountains on the weekend and rip around.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I'm like, I can't do this now, I can't. Like
- 7:56Speaker 1: He's like, oh, you could ignore it, but I wouldn't.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Yeah. So he's like, can you bring it back and
- 8:03Speaker 1: I can get you in a land cruise of three
- 8:05Speaker 1: hundred nice? Am I cool?
- 8:07Speaker 3: All right, that's a nice run to the mountain.
- 8:09Speaker 1: It's okay. So this was the land cruiser gr and
- 8:14Speaker 1: I got in and I'm like, this steering wheels a
- 8:17Speaker 1: bit shiny, like it just feels very kind of used.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I'm like, I thought to myself, I bet the person
- 8:23Speaker 1: before me was someone like Trevorlng just fucking put bloody
- 8:27Speaker 1: bits of donut everywhere and just like there'd be crumbs
- 8:30Speaker 1: on the seat seeds, probably had a bit of like geers,
- 8:35Speaker 1: like it was really like God, yeah, sure, so I
- 8:38Speaker 1: don't know.
- 8:38Speaker 3: How to escalate from donuts to there.
- 8:40Speaker 1: But anyway, well let's just say, how many donuts are you?
- 8:47Speaker 1: Are you like a three donut man? How many can you?
- 8:50Speaker 3: Wouldn't I wouldn't go less than six, donut king, I
- 8:53Speaker 3: would never.
- 8:56Speaker 1: You the donut kid.
- 8:58Speaker 3: I'm happy with that. Title.
- 8:59Speaker 1: So I caught Paul and I was like, you never
- 9:02Speaker 1: guess what I'm in. I'm in a land cruise of
- 9:05Speaker 1: three hundred gr and I think it's been used. And
- 9:08Speaker 1: you said, what, Gordy, I was in your I am
- 9:11Speaker 1: in your car, in your old car. Well, you're in
- 9:14Speaker 1: the same sort of car. And I was like, this
- 9:17Speaker 1: one has just done thirty seven thousand kilometers and yours
- 9:21Speaker 1: was the same.
- 9:22Speaker 3: And I've got to tell you, so you had two
- 9:24Speaker 3: different ones or is this the same time with.
- 9:26Speaker 2: The same one. I reckon they hold it down. But
- 9:28Speaker 2: I normally, like I know that people think this is
- 9:31Speaker 2: a stupid discussion to be having, But normally with press
- 9:33Speaker 2: cars so.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Very inside baseball, but people are fascinated by many games.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Look, I think most most of the time with these manufacturers,
- 9:39Speaker 2: they'll sell the cars at about ten thousand k's old.
- 9:41Speaker 2: And the reason they do that is you've got accelerated life.
- 9:44Speaker 2: When it gets given to a new media outlet, they
- 9:46Speaker 2: will do the same thing last one did, and it's
- 9:48Speaker 2: just you're accelerating the degradation of the car. Some companies,
- 9:52Speaker 2: and I think Toyta could even be one of them,
- 9:54Speaker 2: just destroy the cars once they're done for pre production cars. So,
- 9:58Speaker 2: but the strange thing here with this three hundred series,
- 10:00Speaker 2: it had clearly done a lot of off writing because
- 10:02Speaker 2: it had scratches all down the side, all down the
- 10:05Speaker 2: other side. And I'll tell you what, this didn't feel
- 10:08Speaker 2: great for thirty seven thousand.
- 10:09Speaker 3: So that accelerated life thing. Do you think it's a
- 10:12Speaker 3: genuine look at a land croage three hundred thirty eight
- 10:15Speaker 3: thousand k's or is it a bit more like it's
- 10:17Speaker 3: one hundred thousand cars.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I think closer to one hundred thousand. And I'm
- 10:20Speaker 2: hoping that anyone that's listening to this contact at the
- 10:24Speaker 2: Drivers Show dot com today, you do you want a
- 10:26Speaker 2: three hundred series, Let us know what it's like to
- 10:28Speaker 2: live with once you've put some k's on it. Because
- 10:30Speaker 2: this thing was creaking, the suspension felt funny, there was
- 10:34Speaker 2: a vibration from the engine. I think all of these
- 10:36Speaker 2: things didn't happen until Gordy picked it up.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to say, to be honest, I didn't
- 10:41Speaker 1: have those issues. There was no scratches. We probably shouldn't
- 10:44Speaker 1: claim we had the same one. There's a good chance
- 10:46Speaker 1: we could have had separate ones.
- 10:47Speaker 2: But they both had over thirty thousand.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, one thing that stuck out to me
- 10:52Speaker 1: was I quickly realized the three hundred series in general,
- 10:56Speaker 1: and this being the gr so it's up a fair bit.
- 10:58Speaker 1: It's probably up about what fifty mil do you reckon
- 11:01Speaker 1: than the standard? Like the suspensions different than the standard,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and also it's got chunky at tires.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I think, yeah, I don't think it's fifty mil. I
- 11:08Speaker 2: think it's only slightly higher bran.
- 11:11Speaker 1: It just it just felt like it's obviously quite a
- 11:12Speaker 1: big car, and it's the easiest big car I've ever driven.
- 11:16Speaker 1: It's such a fucking easy drive.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Really. But I do see a lot of them around town.
- 11:21Speaker 3: They are the new taxi.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't mind it. It was pretty good. My
- 11:26Speaker 1: dad had one and probably put about seventy kilometers on
- 11:30Speaker 1: it and sold it and he sold it off it.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I can't really comment on it because what he did
- 11:37Speaker 1: was he sold it to a company called the Night
- 11:39Speaker 1: h Q, which is a company I now work for.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And they're like those car giveaway.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Things, you know, and don't get me started.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Okay, all right, I won't get you started, can you
- 11:49Speaker 1: please do? Because it's called money Trevor.
- 11:52Speaker 3: All right, I thought you worked in Rainy. I'm so confused.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Anyway, whatever, good on me, HQ. The face and the
- 11:58Speaker 1: pretty face. I've replaced both.
- 12:00Speaker 2: You know. When there's people standing at the desk, and
- 12:03Speaker 2: then under the desk there's also people that's just Gordy
- 12:07Speaker 2: a very spacious mouth.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Wow, Jesus, look at you two. Me getting a bit
- 12:12Speaker 1: of stuff on the side and you're rush in it eyes.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Your primarily aware of this.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Sold it to this company and then they gave it away. Yeah. Yeah,
- 12:21Speaker 1: they modified the ship out of it and gave it away.
- 12:24Speaker 1: It's pretty cool.
- 12:25Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm interested if you do own one, let
- 12:28Speaker 2: us know what it's like. And the interesting thing as
- 12:30Speaker 2: well is that that platform will be or is the
- 12:32Speaker 2: platform for the new Lexus Cheeks and will be the
- 12:34Speaker 2: new Prato as well.
- 12:36Speaker 3: You've looked at that new Prat, haven't you. Yeah, Like
- 12:38Speaker 3: it's it's a very very different.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Look.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Great three hundred is a really nice evolution of the
- 12:44Speaker 3: land cruise, all right, but the new Prato is it's
- 12:47Speaker 3: like where he has gone.
- 12:48Speaker 2: It's just it's.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Radical for radicals where I think it's where Lexus needed
- 12:53Speaker 1: to go. Though, definitely like lex has had this kind
- 12:57Speaker 1: of old man brands in.
- 13:00Speaker 2: I think is still a bit sort of straight. Yes,
- 13:03Speaker 2: I think this car is very because Lexus has.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Always had a little bit of flare on the side.
- 13:08Speaker 3: They've had a few sports cars and different things that
- 13:10Speaker 3: have something very different.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I've had some great sports.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely so look wise, but Toyota has been straight
- 13:15Speaker 3: down the line, very consistent. And then you bring in
- 13:18Speaker 3: this new Prato and it's, man, it's a strange looking thing.
- 13:22Speaker 2: I like it.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I like it a lot, but I think for the
- 13:25Speaker 3: average Prato owner, it's vastly different and therefore kind of
- 13:29Speaker 3: an interesting prospect.
- 13:30Speaker 2: I think the biggest issue they're going to have is
- 13:31Speaker 2: it's got to carry over two point eight liter four
- 13:34Speaker 2: cylinder diesel, so it's getting mild, very mild hybrid technology.
- 13:38Speaker 2: But five hundred new meters on a vehicle that is
- 13:41Speaker 2: going to be heavier because it's on a much bigger
- 13:43Speaker 2: platform now, I think is probably going to hold them back.
- 13:46Speaker 2: So they increase the towing capacity as well. So now
- 13:48Speaker 2: they've gone from three to three and a half, you're
- 13:50Speaker 2: going to be towing an extra five hundred kilos in
- 13:53Speaker 2: a heavier car with the same engine.
- 13:55Speaker 3: I just think that's really through it.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Well, yeah, so they do have that. They are working
- 13:59Speaker 2: on a hybrid. The problem they've got is though that
- 14:01Speaker 2: they can't stick a V sixties in it because you're
- 14:04Speaker 2: going to cannibalize three rounded series. Can't stick a V
- 14:06Speaker 2: six petrol in it because you're going to cannibalize GX
- 14:09Speaker 2: and globally, they don't have any other engine variance aside
- 14:11Speaker 2: from the hybrid bro you can actually put in there.
- 14:13Speaker 2: So the screw sick one, it'll be an interesting one
- 14:16Speaker 2: and it'll be more expensive. I reckon ten to fifteen.
- 14:18Speaker 3: I was going to say, it just looks like it's
- 14:20Speaker 3: going to be more expensive than where Prato's are back.
- 14:22Speaker 3: And I think most Prato, a lot of Prato owners,
- 14:25Speaker 3: to generalize, you know, are on a cycle. They're on
- 14:27Speaker 3: like a five year, six year, but everyone purchase least
- 14:30Speaker 3: gone a situation and they're.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Ready for the new one percent.
- 14:33Speaker 3: And if it's ten grand more, yep, that's a big hit.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And I know some people that have actually just gone
- 14:38Speaker 2: ahead and renewed Prato now ahead of the new one
- 14:41Speaker 2: coming because they don't want to change. They like y right,
- 14:44Speaker 2: they don't want to have the first of something new,
- 14:46Speaker 2: so they're funny those guys.
- 14:48Speaker 1: My brother waited like nearly two years for his Prato.
- 14:51Speaker 1: He got it last Christmas and I said to him,
- 14:54Speaker 1: hold off, like there's one coming. It looks fantastic. Hold
- 14:57Speaker 1: off is that? Noah, I'm done. I'm done with waiting.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I said, well, put your name the way that you
- 15:02Speaker 1: got fucked around, make sure your name is on the
- 15:04Speaker 1: top of the list for then anyone, because it looks great.
- 15:06Speaker 1: And we didn't have too many details about the engine
- 15:08Speaker 1: and stuff like that back then, but I was like,
- 15:10Speaker 1: it looks good and I didn't think it would be.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I think it feels a bit pricey for what it is,
- 15:16Speaker 1: but let's see what they.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Do with it. You're buying into it's a bit like
- 15:20Speaker 2: buying a Tesla, right, You're getting access to the supercharger network.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I mean, when you buy a Toyota, you know that
- 15:24Speaker 2: there is a dealer everywhere. So if you're going to
- 15:26Speaker 2: drive regionally, something shits itself, you just go there. And
- 15:30Speaker 2: I think if you're going to do a long distance
- 15:31Speaker 2: drive as well around the Australia, but the map thing,
- 15:34Speaker 2: you want to be doing it in a.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Toy Yeah, the question without notice, Paul, where are we
- 15:37Speaker 3: at with car ordered delays? Because I had this random
- 15:41Speaker 3: conversation with a guy at dinner the other night. We're
- 15:43Speaker 3: at like a group dinner, like ten or fifteen people,
- 15:45Speaker 3: and he was talking about he'd ordered Hyundai I twenty
- 15:48Speaker 3: n Ah, yes in June twenty twenty two. Whoa June
- 15:53Speaker 3: twenty twenty two, And he got some contact from the
- 15:57Speaker 3: deal today because he thought it was coming this month,
- 15:58Speaker 3: got pushed out to April. Just in the course of
- 16:01Speaker 3: three days, it's now at may or joom yeah. And
- 16:03Speaker 3: I'm like, well, that doesn't any sense to me. I
- 16:06Speaker 3: just feel like there's something weird there. Whether it's just
- 16:09Speaker 3: going no, we'll move that guy down unlest we'll give
- 16:11Speaker 3: this guy one. I don't know. Is there a bit
- 16:12Speaker 3: of that goes on still.
- 16:13Speaker 2: But I know that I twenty and they basically a
- 16:16Speaker 2: lot of the end cars had very strange production issues.
- 16:19Speaker 2: They had changes in production location, so I think they're
- 16:23Speaker 2: their own separate little beast. Toyota still has problems. So
- 16:26Speaker 2: around midyear they reckon they're going to be down to
- 16:28Speaker 2: a three to six month wait on most of their
- 16:30Speaker 2: cars unless it's a special order car. Like a lexislc
- 16:34Speaker 2: or something like that. But most other brands, you're seeing
- 16:37Speaker 2: it all over TV now they are advertising and advertising
- 16:39Speaker 2: and advertising, and I think that is the first telltale
- 16:42Speaker 2: sign that the cars is coming. Drive over the West
- 16:45Speaker 2: Gate Bridge and you look at the holding yard. It
- 16:47Speaker 2: is full of cars, and I think, what's happened with
- 16:50Speaker 2: these car companies. They've had this period where they're just
- 16:53Speaker 2: ordering as much as they can. Now the manufacturers are saying, hey,
- 16:57Speaker 2: you have got thousands of cars coming, figure out how
- 17:00Speaker 2: to sell them. You don't have a choice in the matter.
- 17:03Speaker 2: And it's going to complicate things next year with this
- 17:05Speaker 2: absolute nonsense tax, bullshit tax, because that is going to
- 17:10Speaker 2: really upset the balance. And Toyota has come out and
- 17:12Speaker 2: said that they will not pay fines to other car
- 17:15Speaker 2: companies to buy credits. They will just pay them to
- 17:18Speaker 2: the government because Tesla's business model is great.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Each year they in the US.
- 17:23Speaker 2: In the US, it's about two billion dollars a year
- 17:26Speaker 2: that they earn as credits that other manufacturers buy from them.
- 17:29Speaker 2: In Australia they're set to earn two hundred million dollars
- 17:32Speaker 2: over the course of the year with other manufacturers buying
- 17:35Speaker 2: credits and it was funny. In Germany, the factory that
- 17:38Speaker 2: they built was actually mainly funded by Stillantis, who had
- 17:41Speaker 2: to buy all these credits off. Tesla has paid for
- 17:44Speaker 2: Tesla to have a new factory in Germany.
- 17:46Speaker 3: So if all the car companies do what Toyota do
- 17:49Speaker 3: and say we're going to pay the government instead of
- 17:51Speaker 3: the other brands, do the other brands get nothing?
- 17:53Speaker 2: I don't think so, because it's up to you. That's
- 17:56Speaker 2: a trading market. And the issue you've got with Tesla
- 17:59Speaker 2: as well. They out and said the other day they're
- 18:01Speaker 2: leaving the FCAI, which is the sort of industry body
- 18:04Speaker 2: that represents all oh absolutely, and they've left it because
- 18:09Speaker 2: the FCAI is parroting the line that they need exemptions
- 18:12Speaker 2: of certain classes vehicles and the FCAI is very much
- 18:14Speaker 2: led by Toyota and so the FCAI is trying to
- 18:18Speaker 2: Rebut this Tesla's doing this, and the reason they're doing
- 18:21Speaker 2: it is because it was actually on the Today Show
- 18:23Speaker 2: someone had fed a producer numbers and I think it
- 18:26Speaker 2: was from the FCAI, where they claimed Model Y would
- 18:29Speaker 2: be fifteen grand cheaper. Oh wow, Tesla cractic because like,
- 18:32Speaker 2: hold on, you're advertising everywhere that a model is going
- 18:35Speaker 2: to be fifteen grand cheaper because they've assumed that Tesla's
- 18:38Speaker 2: going to drop the price by fifteen grand. It's like no, no, no,
- 18:40Speaker 2: they'll do the pocket the fifteen grand because why would
- 18:43Speaker 2: you and what they're experiencing I suspect because they never
- 18:47Speaker 2: come out with statements unless it's from Musk. So the
- 18:49Speaker 2: Australian manager, whoever the fuck he is, has come out
- 18:52Speaker 2: with a written statement that he sent to media saying
- 18:54Speaker 2: they're pulling out because they must have seen a sales
- 18:57Speaker 2: decline by people going well, hold on.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Because they think the price is going to fluctuate, so
- 19:02Speaker 3: master Jet.
- 19:03Speaker 2: And the reason that the price is going to fluctuate
- 19:05Speaker 2: for people that don't understand this is the government is
- 19:07Speaker 2: basically saying that if your average fleet is above a
- 19:10Speaker 2: certain emissions level, we're going to hit you with a
- 19:13Speaker 2: fee that you can either buy credits from other brands
- 19:15Speaker 2: or get fined for.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Can I just say, this whole system looking outside in
- 19:20Speaker 1: feel so fucking flawed because if it's all about buying credit,
- 19:24Speaker 1: or if you can get away with buying credits and
- 19:26Speaker 1: doing this, the whole point of it is to meet
- 19:28Speaker 1: admissions targets exactly. Do you know what I mean?
- 19:30Speaker 3: It's like environment It's like the carbon tax stuff. It's like,
- 19:33Speaker 3: rather than cutting your emissions and doing good for the environment,
- 19:35Speaker 3: just buy some credits.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and we'll find you and we'll get money for that.
- 19:40Speaker 1: But oh yeah, yeah, yeah, we're doing this for emissions targets.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Like longer term. The plan is to say, well, if
- 19:45Speaker 2: you want to stop getting fined, you need to bring
- 19:47Speaker 2: in better stuff. But therein lies the problem. Someone like Toyota,
- 19:50Speaker 2: who sells.
- 19:51Speaker 3: By the way I thought personally, when I looked at
- 19:53Speaker 3: it first and foremost, I thought it would be okay
- 19:56Speaker 3: because of the amount of hybrids they sell.
- 19:57Speaker 2: That's exactly what I thought, But it's off by the
- 20:00Speaker 2: amount of land cruise o Pratos land cruises and highluxes.
- 20:03Speaker 2: The problem is though that there is I don't think
- 20:06Speaker 2: anyone in this world wants the world to end for
- 20:09Speaker 2: climate to go bad. No one wants that. So if
- 20:12Speaker 2: you're out there driving around Australia telling a caravan, you
- 20:16Speaker 2: don't want the world to end. But also you don't
- 20:18Speaker 2: want to be driving an electric car that's going to
- 20:20Speaker 2: get one hundred k's up the road and you're going
- 20:22Speaker 2: to need a charge. If you're a tradee you don't
- 20:24Speaker 2: have outside of that OLDV and electric uit that you
- 20:26Speaker 2: can buy, So what's at a premium?
- 20:29Speaker 3: And doesn't ITV?
- 20:31Speaker 1: I mean, there's just.
- 20:32Speaker 2: All of these problems with the equation and they keep
- 20:34Speaker 2: talking about how they want to compare it to the US.
- 20:37Speaker 2: The US actually has an exemption for footprints, so the
- 20:40Speaker 2: bigger the vehicle, the less it is required to have
- 20:43Speaker 2: alignment with the missions. And they have a lot of
- 20:44Speaker 2: big VI, which is the top three best selling cars
- 20:47Speaker 2: in the States, of the F series Ram and the Silverada.
- 20:52Speaker 2: So I think that Australia needs to get real understand
- 20:55Speaker 2: that people buy the cars they do for whatever reasons
- 20:57Speaker 2: they do. Yes, you have an element of people who
- 21:00Speaker 2: buy them to just stuff around him. But if you
- 21:01Speaker 2: are buying it because you have no alternative, Toyota is
- 21:04Speaker 2: going to pass the cost onto you. And if you're
- 21:06Speaker 2: a trade that extra cost they're paying for their ute
- 21:09Speaker 2: is going to go to you when they come to
- 21:10Speaker 2: do something in your house.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And also, where's the choice, Like it feels so fucking
- 21:14Speaker 1: draconian to say you can't really buy the car you want.
- 21:17Speaker 1: If you want a big car, no, no, no, do
- 21:20Speaker 1: you know I'm telling me what to do? Yeah.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I come from Victoria, where for two years we were
- 21:25Speaker 2: told what to.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Do and where to go.
- 21:27Speaker 2: People are sick of it.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Hey, he's paying the price now you can't get into
- 21:30Speaker 1: the Portzy golf club. Cut him some slack.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I caught up with Pricey the other day and I said, mate,
- 21:34Speaker 2: hold up the sorry, just pick up that name.
- 21:36Speaker 1: You just drunk.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Do not let him in? Under any to let him in,
- 21:40Speaker 2: I said, don't worry, We're not letting.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Hey. You know, when you make some terrible decisions in
- 21:47Speaker 1: your life, I've made a few, obviously, most of them
- 21:50Speaker 1: I've asked to kindly like go through the window.
- 21:53Speaker 3: For most of them you had to text them pass
- 21:55Speaker 3: them to delete the video go.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Yes. But I just don't think think anything could
- 22:02Speaker 1: quite stack up as badly as the mistake of buying
- 22:05Speaker 1: an EV nine. And that's exactly what you're doing.
- 22:08Speaker 3: A mistakes.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Oh holy fuck me in the dick.
- 22:11Speaker 3: I'm so excited.
- 22:13Speaker 2: I actually think is that it's a fantastic looking car.
- 22:16Speaker 2: But Gordy, the guy that is wearing fucking glasses and
- 22:18Speaker 2: can't actually see anything.
- 22:21Speaker 3: I know. The first thing I said when I posted
- 22:23Speaker 3: about it, was this is a polarizing car, no doubt,
- 22:25Speaker 3: no doubt, it's polarizing, but you got it. Like my
- 22:27Speaker 3: situation is this. I got three kids, the teenagers. We
- 22:30Speaker 3: own a key A Carnival. It's four years old. And
- 22:33Speaker 3: like I would never I didn't even think I was
- 22:35Speaker 3: buying a new car this year. But I'd had the
- 22:37Speaker 3: EV nine. I had the air in the earth over
- 22:40Speaker 3: like two different weeks in late January maybe, And so
- 22:43Speaker 3: the wife saw it in the driver. She doesn't look
- 22:45Speaker 3: at press cars, doesn't drive them, won't go near them,
- 22:47Speaker 3: but she'd seen it in the driver, and you know,
- 22:49Speaker 3: friends with Blake with a pride come around, looked at it,
- 22:51Speaker 3: and you know, people talk about the cars and driveway.
- 22:53Speaker 3: And then I get a call from the dude that
- 22:55Speaker 3: does my fine and it goes the Carnival's up and
- 22:56Speaker 3: I went, what do you mean? Like, what do you
- 22:57Speaker 3: mean up? He goes, the lease is finished? You got
- 22:59Speaker 3: to pay it out or what are you going to do?
- 23:01Speaker 3: I went shit, I had no idea. Get home, say
- 23:03Speaker 3: to the wife, We've got to get a new Carnival. Okay, cool, cool.
- 23:06Speaker 3: I go to a Keya dealer with in my head,
- 23:09Speaker 3: I want to trade it in. I want to get
- 23:10Speaker 3: a new Carnival. Like I'm there to fucking buy and
- 23:12Speaker 3: this is the same fucking dealership that I tried to
- 23:15Speaker 3: buy the carnival from originally but wouldn't give me a quote. Irrelevant.
- 23:19Speaker 3: So I walk in. I go to this bike mate,
- 23:20Speaker 3: I want to buy a new Carnival. Twelve month wait mate,
- 23:23Speaker 3: I went on a key a Carnival. He goes, yep,
- 23:26Speaker 3: I went okay, and that was it? Like, I'm like,
- 23:28Speaker 3: is that it? And he goes. I said, can I
- 23:30Speaker 3: get a value on mine? Like a trade in value?
- 23:31Speaker 3: He goes, you know? Does He opens up a fucking
- 23:33Speaker 3: website and looks through like.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Carsa like a read book.
- 23:36Speaker 3: And I'm like, mane, I could do this at home.
- 23:38Speaker 3: And here's the thing. There's two even nines in the shows,
- 23:42Speaker 3: two in the show room. He doesn't even think to say, oh,
- 23:43Speaker 3: you've got a family, Like, doesn't even try to sell
- 23:46Speaker 3: me a car.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Right.
- 23:47Speaker 3: So I have this conversation with Fennick on our podcast,
- 23:50Speaker 3: just just ranting and raving boke emails. Me goes, mate,
- 23:53Speaker 3: just say, you know, I work for such and such,
- 23:55Speaker 3: happy to help you out if you do decide to
- 23:57Speaker 3: go down there. No, And so I said, mate, happy
- 24:00Speaker 3: to have a look at the price. Because then I
- 24:02Speaker 3: got back to the wife and she goes, should we
- 24:03Speaker 3: be getting a carnival or should we get that environmental thing?
- 24:06Speaker 3: My life's pretty pretty forward thinking on the on the
- 24:10Speaker 3: environmental front. We're recycling every fucking thing in the house.
- 24:13Speaker 3: We've got bins for everything. And I went, that's basically
- 24:16Speaker 3: green light from my wife by the EV nine right.
- 24:19Speaker 3: So I work real hard on the numbers. I get
- 24:21Speaker 3: it down to basically the same price because the carnivals
- 24:24Speaker 3: are actually a pretty good trade right now. So I
- 24:26Speaker 3: do it over five years and stead of four or whatever,
- 24:28Speaker 3: and I get down to the same price. And mate,
- 24:30Speaker 3: I've fucking I've got my deposit down on EV nine
- 24:32Speaker 3: and it arrives this week, like it happened real quick.
- 24:35Speaker 1: What coloen you get black? Okay, because we've got black
- 24:38Speaker 1: black carnival back.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Yeah it was on a boat. There may have been
- 24:41Speaker 3: a phone call, mate, but yeah it was it was
- 24:45Speaker 3: on us.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I am no, who are you travel long?
- 24:53Speaker 3: I mean someone else got a phone call that said
- 24:56Speaker 3: your EV nine Earth is delayed by two months. But
- 25:00Speaker 3: arrived and I'm picking it up on Thursday, and so
- 25:04Speaker 3: odd I did, like I had a bit of a
- 25:06Speaker 3: panic after kind of signing paperwork and stuff, being like, fuck,
- 25:09Speaker 3: have I done the right thing here? And it is
- 25:10Speaker 3: polarizing to look at. But I got another press car
- 25:13Speaker 3: and I told her why she has to drive it
- 25:14Speaker 3: because she's just went up to the park and back.
- 25:16Speaker 3: And she she was she never driven, like, she hasn't
- 25:19Speaker 3: driven the coop. Yeah, right, she's never driven it. So
- 25:20Speaker 3: she thought it was weird and heavy, but it was fine.
- 25:23Speaker 3: And then I got one a couple of weeks ago
- 25:26Speaker 3: to drive for the last time to my mum's place,
- 25:27Speaker 3: which is a six hour drive, right, So I thought,
- 25:29Speaker 3: I've got my got family in the country, and you
- 25:31Speaker 3: charge that up and you took for I had a
- 25:33Speaker 3: great bin. I had a great drive. I loved it
- 25:35Speaker 3: on the windy bits, on the stretches, every it was
- 25:38Speaker 3: just great. So I went, I'm really happy this is
- 25:40Speaker 3: the car made. It's a great car. It really is.
- 25:44Speaker 3: It's expensive.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Here's it.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Look, it's a great car.
- 25:46Speaker 1: It is. It is really pulverizing, right to look at
- 25:49Speaker 1: your right to me, I was like, that is I
- 25:51Speaker 1: and this isn't Adyss with ka. I fucking love Key.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I had a stinger. I love Keay is great, I
- 25:56Speaker 1: love it care But it was just I looked at
- 25:58Speaker 1: this and I thought, not a great looking car. But
- 26:01Speaker 1: my main thing was, it's such a specific audience that
- 26:04Speaker 1: would buy this one an EV A big evn is
- 26:08Speaker 1: it seven seats seven seat EV roughly one hundred and
- 26:12Speaker 1: ten thousand dollars. Not a cheap car. So you're rolling
- 26:15Speaker 1: around in quite a luxurious beat. It's a business along
- 26:18Speaker 1: it is. But John Support, I thought to myself, there's
- 26:23Speaker 1: such a specific audience with this and you are that.
- 26:26Speaker 3: No, I don't expect they're going to sell in huge numbers,
- 26:30Speaker 3: but I don't think they do either. I think this
- 26:32Speaker 3: is a this is a flagship vehicle for them. It's
- 26:34Speaker 3: a vehicle that's like, let's be real, this is the
- 26:36Speaker 3: biggest electric car you can buy in Australia. And if
- 26:38Speaker 3: I was in America, I'd be buying a Rivian like
- 26:40Speaker 3: I'd be buying something like that because I think it's
- 26:42Speaker 3: awesome to have that. It comes good too. It's little
- 26:45Speaker 3: for my liking. But see, in a look sense, I
- 26:48Speaker 3: still think the model, why is the fucking ugliest car
- 26:50Speaker 3: on the road today, and if I see another fucking
- 26:54Speaker 3: white one, like it's just everywhere right, and it's you know,
- 26:58Speaker 3: it's worse. Now, this is the the worst thing about
- 27:01Speaker 3: having a car that changes. It's going to look even
- 27:04Speaker 3: worse when they bring out the update later this year
- 27:06Speaker 3: because it's not the new test. Model three looks fucking
- 27:08Speaker 3: beautiful compared to the old one. Imagine how good the
- 27:11Speaker 3: Why is going to look at all these thousands of
- 27:13Speaker 3: people have got the Model Why.
- 27:14Speaker 1: It's fun. I got to say that, No wonder people
- 27:17Speaker 1: wrap those, you know, they come in such a limited amount.
- 27:20Speaker 3: It is weird how many people do that, isn't it.
- 27:22Speaker 3: I've got one near us. It's like a rainbow, you know,
- 27:24Speaker 3: that oil slick style that looks different in tears.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Model three. Well, I was actually going to say, I
- 27:32Speaker 2: like the EV night and we were just discussing off
- 27:34Speaker 2: air that I thought the GT line was just a
- 27:37Speaker 2: bit much. The fucking digital mirrors.
- 27:39Speaker 3: I cannot stand driving a Genesis with them now, and
- 27:41Speaker 3: it's like, why can't they just put the screens yes
- 27:44Speaker 3: up where you would normally look at a mirror.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Did you have you got remotely in use to those
- 27:49Speaker 1: because I found by the end of it, I was like,
- 27:51Speaker 1: I get it. They kind of like the mirrors do.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Tech wise, they do some pretty incredible more and all that.
- 27:57Speaker 3: I get it.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I get it too, right, But I still, honestly for a.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Mirror, it doesn't I don't think.
- 28:03Speaker 3: No. But I don't think it's anything wrong with the technology.
- 28:05Speaker 3: I think it's the placement of the little screens out
- 28:08Speaker 3: is the same when you look out the windows, like
- 28:11Speaker 3: I shouldn't be able to see the fucking camera. I
- 28:13Speaker 3: should exactly put the screen up there so it's covering it,
- 28:16Speaker 3: just a little bit of the windows.
- 28:18Speaker 1: No sense, right, the fact that you can see the camera.
- 28:20Speaker 2: They've done it like, oh, we don't want to block
- 28:22Speaker 2: the camera.
- 28:22Speaker 3: It's like put the screen up. But I don't like audio.
- 28:25Speaker 3: I don't like digital review mirrors either.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what they come in handy if you've
- 28:31Speaker 2: got a seven seater because you can see through seven seats,
- 28:36Speaker 2: or a car that has a tiny fucking rear window.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Those big black cars. If you get transported to the
- 28:41Speaker 1: airport in you know the Yeah, but you're.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Young and healthy, your eyes are good. So actually I
- 28:48Speaker 3: don't think that because I wear glasses for reading. I
- 28:51Speaker 3: actually don't think I can focus properly on the digital
- 28:54Speaker 3: review mirror when when you look at the mirror weirdly
- 28:56Speaker 3: you are focusing in the distance.
- 28:58Speaker 2: That's yeah.
- 28:59Speaker 3: But when the mirror is here and it's a screen.
- 29:01Speaker 2: That you're focusing on, that I don't think as well.
- 29:03Speaker 2: But my issue with those digital side mirrors is perspective
- 29:06Speaker 2: because if you're parking up like where I do, up
- 29:08Speaker 2: against a wall, I use my head to move around
- 29:11Speaker 2: to get different angles on the mirror. When you do
- 29:13Speaker 2: that on a digital side mirror angles it doesn't move
- 29:16Speaker 2: at all.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Now you think, aren't they a little bit more kind
- 29:19Speaker 3: of wide angle? Isn't there a bit more?
- 29:21Speaker 2: You just yeah, in low light especially, you just don't
- 29:24Speaker 2: know what.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Yeah, low light is bad.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Evan on one's great, And so do
- 29:28Speaker 2: you think I've been here? Do you think, like, seriously,
- 29:31Speaker 2: the one you've gone for is the best, because to me,
- 29:33Speaker 2: the top speck was just a bit much.
- 29:35Speaker 3: It doesn't have much range from the air, just doesn't
- 29:37Speaker 3: have enough range for me.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Where you've landed is perfect. And the ride's better as well,
- 29:41Speaker 2: like it is actually quite nice.
- 29:42Speaker 3: And the fact that it doesn't have a while to
- 29:43Speaker 3: have a car play is the most disgraceful thing in
- 29:45Speaker 3: history given in the US, it does, but you know.
- 29:48Speaker 2: What the fuck's going from? That will be a software update. Well,
- 29:51Speaker 2: we just tested the ConA Electric. It actually came and
- 29:54Speaker 2: it's got the same same yaement system versions and stuff.
- 29:59Speaker 2: It actually came with a software update that added wireless
- 30:01Speaker 2: car play while we had the car.
- 30:02Speaker 1: They're starting shit, really, yeah, are starting to roll over? Really,
- 30:06Speaker 1: I think we're the same.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Yeah, entertainment system firmware supports it. It's just sorry the
- 30:12Speaker 2: hardware supports of the firm where they need right day. Yes,
- 30:15Speaker 2: So I think it's I think it's a good choice.
- 30:17Speaker 2: A question just on the podcast as well. Your new podcast,
- 30:21Speaker 2: tell us first the name of it. So when anyone with.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Two bugs talking electric cars really really vague thinking. But
- 30:27Speaker 3: we've been doing two bugs talking text Stephen Fennick and
- 30:29Speaker 3: I for thirteen years, and so when we're going to
- 30:32Speaker 3: do EV's because he's got one, I've got one. We
- 30:34Speaker 3: talk about him all the time. We know as well,
- 30:35Speaker 3: Bens right, he's in the eque. He owned a model
- 30:39Speaker 3: S for Yes for five years and then they stopped
- 30:42Speaker 3: making them. Here for left right, hand right, So he
- 30:45Speaker 3: just went fuck you and brought the Mercedes. I've got
- 30:48Speaker 3: the Cooper and so we started that. So yeah, it's
- 30:49Speaker 3: just yeah, it's just we're trying to go to the
- 30:53Speaker 3: lowest common denomina in terms of it's not for it's
- 30:56Speaker 3: not really for EV owner. It's for people that want
- 30:57Speaker 3: to know more, want to learn more, want to understand more.
- 31:00Speaker 3: You know, you can kind of jump in and hear stuff.
- 31:02Speaker 1: That's a smart idea because I think that's this is
- 31:04Speaker 1: now the time to do it. People are starting to
- 31:06Speaker 1: really like prick their heads out.
- 31:08Speaker 3: I don't think we're late. I think we're I think
- 31:09Speaker 3: we're at the right point. I think it's a tipping
- 31:11Speaker 3: point for people to go. I know, I like we
- 31:13Speaker 3: talked last week to a bloke from the Strata Committee
- 31:16Speaker 3: strata owners about EV's ownership. He had a really like
- 31:20Speaker 3: positive take on EV's and fire safety. I'm like, okay,
- 31:22Speaker 3: so that was interesting. So now I'm going to get
- 31:23Speaker 3: fire department on and go, what can you tell me
- 31:25Speaker 3: your side of the story, because I think it's important
- 31:27Speaker 3: to hear the whole argument about stuff. Plus, I like
- 31:31Speaker 3: Phoenix doesn't leave the city. It was barely drives over
- 31:33Speaker 3: the fucking bridge to come to my studio to do
- 31:35Speaker 3: the show. But I leave the city. I've done a
- 31:37Speaker 3: lot of driving and charging. I took the ford E
- 31:40Speaker 3: Transit van to my mum's at Walker. It was the
- 31:44Speaker 3: fucking hardest thing I've ever done because on highway it's
- 31:48Speaker 3: the least efficient highway drive and ev I've ever seen.
- 31:51Speaker 3: It's so thirty per hundred and man fuck, I was
- 31:55Speaker 3: so nervous about making it there. And I was at
- 31:57Speaker 3: scone at the one ny fifty killer what charger and
- 32:01Speaker 3: I had to go to one hundred. I had to
- 32:02Speaker 3: go to at least ninety two to get enough range
- 32:05Speaker 3: to get to Tamworth. Poor bloke in a BYD turns
- 32:07Speaker 3: up well five minutes and I'm like, mate, I'm going
- 32:10Speaker 3: to be here in chat for a fuckingn hour. Buddy
- 32:12Speaker 3: good one was.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Half of it sticking out as well, because it's got
- 32:14Speaker 2: the charging thing at the front.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Ye.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Now that's the other thing I didn't get. It's like
- 32:17Speaker 2: it's a big workman. And then if you go to
- 32:19Speaker 2: like a shopping center car park, you're blocking half the
- 32:22Speaker 2: rock because the thing is sticking in there. But one topic,
- 32:26Speaker 2: actually two topics. We rolled out electric vehicle charging in
- 32:29Speaker 2: our old building. I was the OC manager there and
- 32:32Speaker 2: it was expensive, and funnily enough, one of the guys
- 32:35Speaker 2: that was fucking jumping up and down about this constantly
- 32:39Speaker 2: while we were getting a consultant to work on the
- 32:40Speaker 2: plans and everything didn't end up fucking getting it, even
- 32:44Speaker 2: though he bought a Tesla and didn't think about charging
- 32:46Speaker 2: until he got at home. We spent a year installing
- 32:50Speaker 2: all this stuff and he didn't end up putting it
- 32:52Speaker 2: in because he thought it was too expensive. And he goes, oh,
- 32:55Speaker 2: that's too much, I can get it installed for this,
- 32:56Speaker 2: I said, hold on, fucking listen to me. I'm not.
- 32:59Speaker 1: I don't need an actrician.
- 33:00Speaker 2: To come and plug it up for you. We have
- 33:02Speaker 2: a load manager so that when it gets to summer
- 33:04Speaker 2: and there's fucking fifty people trying to charge their cars,
- 33:07Speaker 2: that it can load. Shehad, So we actually have electricity, yes,
- 33:11Speaker 2: and we don't need you the selfish guy who wants
- 33:13Speaker 2: to just plug up through your killer one. Meagine if
- 33:16Speaker 2: there's fifty of you selfish guys, we wouldn't have any electricity.
- 33:19Speaker 2: So it's it's those types of people who are tight
- 33:22Speaker 2: asses that don't want to then spend because it is
- 33:25Speaker 2: more expensive than doing it at home.
- 33:27Speaker 3: You can't just put two grand war box on. You've
- 33:29Speaker 3: got to do like you'd be that guy. Is that
- 33:32Speaker 3: what we're saying?
- 33:32Speaker 1: Yeah, i'd be that guy. No, it's a fair point,
- 33:35Speaker 1: like if he doesn't really want to say the difference
- 33:38Speaker 1: is the plug in sort of mount that you've got
- 33:40Speaker 1: to get. Say, he's got to spend like four grand.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I don't know too much about the setup, but say
- 33:43Speaker 1: he's going to spend four grand as opposed to what
- 33:46Speaker 1: do you have to pay this strata people?
- 33:48Speaker 2: Look, I'll find the number, but it was it was
- 33:51Speaker 2: not four grand. It was like, let's call it eighteen
- 33:54Speaker 2: hundred bucks. And he thought he could get it for
- 33:56Speaker 2: five hundred.
- 33:56Speaker 1: So he's being a third of ye.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Yeah, we talked again, befo all we came on here
- 34:00Speaker 3: about the kind of community that is ev owners, especially
- 34:04Speaker 3: on Facebook, and I had to leave a couple of
- 34:06Speaker 3: Facebook groups because I saw too many people sending links
- 34:10Speaker 3: to like Alley Express and all this to buy fucking
- 34:12Speaker 3: charges and shits, And I'm thinking that is not author
- 34:16Speaker 3: that is not regulated in Australia. That's The ship that's
- 34:19Speaker 3: going to bring this whole industry down is dodgy chargers.
- 34:23Speaker 3: And the problem is not enough cars come with cables.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Isn't it weird that you buy an evop Cooper came
- 34:29Speaker 3: with the public charging style, you know, Type two to
- 34:32Speaker 3: Type two were not a home granny charger. The key,
- 34:35Speaker 3: I think comes with a granny charger, which I think
- 34:37Speaker 3: all cars should come with, plug it in at home
- 34:39Speaker 3: into a PowerPoint. But you get people who buy a
- 34:42Speaker 3: you know, a charger at home. I don't want to
- 34:44Speaker 3: say war Box because that's a brand. That's what I've got.
- 34:46Speaker 3: The awesome They buy charger, they get installed at home,
- 34:48Speaker 3: and it doesn't have a cable on it, So you
- 34:51Speaker 3: buy then a cable. Now, the problem is if they
- 34:53Speaker 3: buy a cheap shit cable that isn't rated for the
- 34:56Speaker 3: for the power they're outputting, that is going to be
- 34:58Speaker 3: the weak link in the chain. It's not the car
- 35:00Speaker 3: that catchers fight. It's barely the electricity in the home.
- 35:04Speaker 3: It's the charger or the fucking cable.
- 35:06Speaker 1: And by the way, you tell someone who's pretty sort
- 35:09Speaker 1: of set in their ways and an ev is a
- 35:11Speaker 1: big thing for them, like I look at my old man,
- 35:13Speaker 1: and he was like talking about getting a Model three.
- 35:17Speaker 1: At one point I was like, Eh, don't do it,
- 35:19Speaker 1: don't do it, don't do it. But I guarantee he'd
- 35:21Speaker 1: be this sort of person that'd be like, ah, look,
- 35:23Speaker 1: I'll just fucking go on the internet without telling anyone
- 35:25Speaker 1: buy something off Amazon.
- 35:26Speaker 3: You spent like sixty grand on a car, and then
- 35:29Speaker 3: you go on that like I say, I paid eighteen
- 35:31Speaker 3: hundred bucks for my war box. I think you get
- 35:33Speaker 3: him a bit cheaper. But my mine's got a Wi
- 35:35Speaker 3: Fi and all that kind of cool control, and I
- 35:37Speaker 3: know I could have got something. I think Tesla had
- 35:39Speaker 3: him for like seven fifty or something. Right, that's the
- 35:41Speaker 3: minimum I spend. If you're spending lesson the Tesla charger,
- 35:45Speaker 3: what the fuck is going on?
- 35:46Speaker 2: And is it doing it? It's like and you know
- 35:49Speaker 2: the other thing as well, that a topic for you
- 35:53Speaker 2: your podcast, which I'm about to come up to now,
- 35:55Speaker 2: is what happens at the end of a novate at
- 35:57Speaker 2: least because our model, why we got that ovated least
- 36:00Speaker 2: to take advantage of the FBT exemption. Right, my two
- 36:03Speaker 2: years is coming up in August, and I've got the
- 36:05Speaker 2: balloon payment of forty three grand. Currently the cars are
- 36:08Speaker 2: listed second hand trade money for about fifty five. So
- 36:13Speaker 2: at the moment, great, But what's going to happen year
- 36:16Speaker 2: three when you've got everyone who went for a three
- 36:18Speaker 2: year at least instead of a two and the resale
- 36:21Speaker 2: values of these teslas are crashing at the moment.
- 36:24Speaker 3: The international stuff for because so many were born and
- 36:29Speaker 3: a lot were.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Used for Uber for all this sort of stuff, so
- 36:31Speaker 2: they're all just ditching them.
- 36:32Speaker 1: The battery, spe degeneration and all that.
- 36:34Speaker 2: And also on top of that, you've got when you
- 36:36Speaker 2: take advantage of the FBT exemption, you've already saved X
- 36:39Speaker 2: thousand dollars. You haven't paid GST upfront either, so you're
- 36:43Speaker 2: going to dump it for whatever the balloon is. And
- 36:45Speaker 2: the balloon is less than market value. So you're going
- 36:48Speaker 2: to see in at the two year mark, which I'm
- 36:50Speaker 2: at in August, and at the three year mark the
- 36:52Speaker 2: following year, which is when they first dropped Model Y,
- 36:55Speaker 2: you're going to see the prices of these drops. So
- 36:56Speaker 2: I'd be curious to know for anyone else that's in
- 36:59Speaker 2: that situation what they're doing, whether they just trade it
- 37:01Speaker 2: in for another one and keep the cycle going, and
- 37:04Speaker 2: if they do what happens with the second hand one?
- 37:06Speaker 2: Do they just list it for a cheap amount and
- 37:08Speaker 2: then you bring the price of everyone who didn't get
- 37:11Speaker 2: the FBT except Novade at least set up.
- 37:13Speaker 3: So do you when the government regulation thing to him
- 37:17Speaker 3: it earlier came on about a month or two ago,
- 37:20Speaker 3: Hadley rang me and want to be on here to
- 37:22Speaker 3: talk to try and explain it to people, right yep,
- 37:24Speaker 3: in Layman's terms. And he's pretty relaxed with me and
- 37:28Speaker 3: doesn't try and push things too hard. So I was
- 37:31Speaker 3: I had him on board broadly the ev train, right,
- 37:34Speaker 3: which is a big milestone, and he was like, yes,
- 37:36Speaker 3: but what about the battery? So now I want to
- 37:38Speaker 3: ask you this because I thought about it. I thought,
- 37:40Speaker 3: in five years from now, you're going to go to
- 37:41Speaker 3: car sales, you're going to look at cars, and right
- 37:44Speaker 3: now you look at a Keyer Carnival twenty twenty model
- 37:46Speaker 3: and it's got one hundred thousand k's or forty thousand
- 37:49Speaker 3: k's or you know, that's pretty much your measure of
- 37:51Speaker 3: the difference. Do you think we'll get to a point
- 37:53Speaker 3: where you list a car with battery health? Yeah, battery
- 37:57Speaker 3: health like maximum range.
- 37:59Speaker 1: People already go into marketplace or something, people already take
- 38:02Speaker 1: photos of, say if they're selling a Tesla, they'll already
- 38:05Speaker 1: take photos of the battery health stuff on the screen
- 38:08Speaker 1: because I think that's the measure uptop as well.
- 38:10Speaker 3: You know they'll do that because surely the measure of
- 38:13Speaker 3: one Tesla's value, one electric cars value versus another one
- 38:16Speaker 3: of the exact same age and condition is how good
- 38:20Speaker 3: is the battery? So essentially what is the remaining range?
- 38:23Speaker 3: Because that that's going to be the big difference between
- 38:26Speaker 3: two cars, isn't it.
- 38:27Speaker 2: And that's going to be an industry as well. We
- 38:28Speaker 2: met this company at where was it, I think it
- 38:31Speaker 2: was at the Munich Motor Show, and they were a
- 38:33Speaker 2: startup Silicon Valley startup and they basically were selling this
- 38:37Speaker 2: technology to car companies to be able to do remote
- 38:40Speaker 2: field diagnoses of their vehicles batteries, but very in depth.
- 38:44Speaker 2: I think that is going to be the next big
- 38:46Speaker 2: industry where you can get an OBD port or an
- 38:48Speaker 2: app or something that will allow you to diagnose a
- 38:50Speaker 2: battery and test sell integrity so that when you sell
- 38:53Speaker 2: a car you can have a certified.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Like the old days, you get there to come along and.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Do a check of a car, say like diale and
- 38:59Speaker 1: kind of like sheet system like the old days when
- 39:01Speaker 1: they'd like wine their.
- 39:03Speaker 2: But I would want that because there is a big
- 39:06Speaker 2: difference between a car that is constantly DC fast charged
- 39:09Speaker 2: and a car that is slow charged. Yes, and there's
- 39:12Speaker 2: also a difference between a sort of a typical lithium
- 39:15Speaker 2: ion battery and an LFP battery.
- 39:17Speaker 3: So someone who bothered to put the eighty percent limit
- 39:19Speaker 3: on who didn't and all those kind of things. If
- 39:21Speaker 3: I was someone who had really good financial backing on
- 39:24Speaker 3: my website, I'd be launching like an EV car sales,
- 39:27Speaker 3: you know, with a different name obviously because you didn't
- 39:29Speaker 3: want legal weathers, but no genuine on being shape raise
- 39:34Speaker 3: it with our boards because I think that I think
- 39:37Speaker 3: we've got trading post style marketplaces happen now. But that's
- 39:41Speaker 3: old school, right. The new school is going to be
- 39:44Speaker 3: a people just searching for an EV especially with the
- 39:47Speaker 3: flood of cars that are going to hit the marketers
- 39:48Speaker 3: you've identified and make it for the buyer. So you
- 39:52Speaker 3: can't list your car unless you've shown evidence of its
- 39:56Speaker 3: current range at eighty or one hundred percent. You know,
- 39:58Speaker 3: those kind of things, so that you really showing the
- 40:01Speaker 3: value of the core technology of the car, not the
- 40:04Speaker 3: fact that it's shiny and you've looked after the seats.
- 40:06Speaker 3: What is the drive train of this car?
- 40:08Speaker 2: Exactly? Yeah, it's it's really fascinating and I think I
- 40:12Speaker 2: just tested the toy at to BZ four X.
- 40:14Speaker 3: What the fuck is with that name? It's it is
- 40:17Speaker 3: a stupid name.
- 40:18Speaker 1: It's like it's been named after one of Elon Musk's kids.
- 40:21Speaker 2: That's right, the one is actually funny from you very good,
- 40:25Speaker 2: But yeah, that that car is I think a car
- 40:26Speaker 2: that's misunderstood by a lot of people. A lot of
- 40:28Speaker 2: people are complaining about how shit is it is as
- 40:31Speaker 2: an EV and that sort of stuff. But to me,
- 40:33Speaker 2: that is a car that if you drive a camera
- 40:35Speaker 2: right now, you can go drive that and it's the same.
- 40:37Speaker 2: It's got buttons for everything. Everything is foreign and weird.
- 40:40Speaker 2: There's no weird shit you have to do. It just drives.
- 40:42Speaker 3: That's the EV owner hatred thing. It's like Tesla owners
- 40:45Speaker 3: who are like, what do you need buttons for?
- 40:47Speaker 1: Mate?
- 40:47Speaker 3: I love reaching, Like in the EV nine, I know
- 40:50Speaker 3: that there's within my reach. There's a little toggle that
- 40:52Speaker 3: I go up for warmer, down for cool, like I
- 40:55Speaker 3: just want that.
- 40:57Speaker 1: People same movements to your wife.
- 41:01Speaker 3: Some people after Like you get in a Toyota, you
- 41:04Speaker 3: want it to be Toyota. Let's be real. Toyota owners
- 41:06Speaker 3: are Toyota owners. They're so unlikely to buy something else.
- 41:10Speaker 3: We've talked I think I've talked about you guys before.
- 41:12Speaker 3: They are so unlikely to buy from a Corolla to
- 41:15Speaker 3: an I thirty, despite the fact that they're better cars.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Probably it's a toy If they want to be an
- 41:20Speaker 3: ev that's probably the car to gain.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I reckon they will actually sold quite a few
- 41:23Speaker 2: of them, so I'll be carefus see how it goes.
- 41:25Speaker 2: I'll tell you what. The fucking air conditioner was amazing.
- 41:27Speaker 2: We had three hot days in Melbourne and every EV
- 41:30Speaker 2: I get into the air conditioner leaves you sweating, not sweating,
- 41:34Speaker 2: but just not super comfortable, right, especially a Tesla with
- 41:38Speaker 2: a fucking glass roof.
- 41:39Speaker 1: Like itating I saw you bring something like that up
- 41:41Speaker 1: before I'm finally someone gets it, those glass.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Thing I was freezing and it was like forty degrees outside.
- 41:47Speaker 2: The air conditioning is like straight out of a highlux
- 41:49Speaker 2: It is fantastic.
- 41:50Speaker 3: What's your number?
- 41:52Speaker 2: Well, in a normal car, it's twenty two. In this
- 41:54Speaker 2: it was twenty three. Because it was at twenty two,
- 41:56Speaker 2: I was actually getting.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Like twenty three. Got a bit of a chowed.
- 42:01Speaker 1: People walk into my studio and it's literally a fridge,
- 42:06Speaker 1: like I keep that at naxt Yeah, unlike this was
- 42:09Speaker 1: like a bloody Croatian sauna.
- 42:11Speaker 3: That's because they turn the air conditioning off in this building.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Do you know what? I noticed that there is actually
- 42:16Speaker 1: an air cord something. I was just really not fun
- 42:19Speaker 1: doing recycling from the fan of the hard drive. But yeah,
- 42:22Speaker 1: my studio, I keep it like nineteen degrees. Like you
- 42:25Speaker 1: walk in there, it is a proper fridge. Everyone's like,
- 42:27Speaker 1: how can you be in here for six hours? This
- 42:30Speaker 1: is this is how it's got to be your.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Way of deterring people from coming in, as it tells.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Me fresh like a piece of old food.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Speaking which.
- 42:40Speaker 3: Hanging in the window like a Christmas.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Fat on this slice of pizza, would you, Trevor, I
- 42:45Speaker 1: need it warmed up.
- 42:46Speaker 3: It won't be warm, won't be sloppy, that's for sure.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Does anyone listen to this?
- 42:51Speaker 1: This is a cheesy crust.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Had a sponsor.
- 42:54Speaker 1: By the way, how's your manscape going? Have you used that?
- 42:59Speaker 2: So we had a Kadogan on the show again and.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Did you hammer him for the manscape stuff.
- 43:06Speaker 2: We gifted him the last time and he returned the
- 43:09Speaker 2: favor and gifted us some manscaping products. So, desk at work,
- 43:13Speaker 2: I have balled the.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Odorant, pulls up, pulls on the ball the odorant.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Is that a real thing?
- 43:20Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 43:21Speaker 3: That man has worked out how to nail a YouTube clickbait.
- 43:24Speaker 2: But it's it's he actually said he knows his audience.
- 43:28Speaker 2: That's why he has beat roll of women frolicking around.
- 43:32Speaker 3: He knows just hit the hit the hit the ev stuff.
- 43:36Speaker 3: He knows they hate it, so bring it on. He
- 43:39Speaker 3: is really just what are you doing? I don't want
- 43:42Speaker 3: to pull them out? What are you doing, Gordie? That's disgusting.
- 43:46Speaker 3: Now he's getting his camera, he's going to take photos
- 43:48Speaker 3: of it. Can you this bloke, this fokes is in
- 43:53Speaker 3: professional radio? Mate? But how will he edit this out
- 43:59Speaker 3: or is this staying in the show. I don't think
- 44:02Speaker 3: he will. I'm going to tell you right now, Paul,
- 44:04Speaker 3: I don't think he's going to edit this out. All right,
- 44:07Speaker 3: Ladies and gentlemen, can you just secretly DM, because Paul,
- 44:11Speaker 3: sorry Gord, he probably won't even listen to the show
- 44:13Speaker 3: top and tail it and send it out. So secretly DM,
- 44:15Speaker 3: Paul Marrick travelong and let us know that he let
- 44:18Speaker 3: this left this rubbish in.
- 44:20Speaker 2: That's it.
- 44:20Speaker 3: It also helps us understand you're listening, because otherwise I'm
- 44:23Speaker 3: not even sure these bokes have listeners. And I don't know.
- 44:26Speaker 3: I don't know why you do it.
- 44:27Speaker 2: I don't think we do it.
- 44:29Speaker 3: Honest, he mentioned, do you have a sponsor? Or?
- 44:32Speaker 2: What?
- 44:32Speaker 1: No?
- 44:33Speaker 2: God? No?
- 44:33Speaker 3: Okay, well you got to work with your money on this.
- 44:36Speaker 3: Ah see, that's the problem. And that's what that's where
- 44:39Speaker 3: Finnick and I had a problem. We started the private feed,
- 44:41Speaker 3: which just us talking shit and swearing and everything. And
- 44:43Speaker 3: I would never try and attach a sponsor that because
- 44:45Speaker 3: I don't want someone saying you can do something right.
- 44:47Speaker 3: But I would never launch a podcast without a sponsor.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Such a thing. It's you do it for the love
- 44:54Speaker 2: pretty much. I mean, if this if we had to
- 44:56Speaker 2: hire the studio and everything makes sense, but you know,
- 44:59Speaker 2: it is what it is. So where do you have a
- 45:01Speaker 2: studio set up at work?
- 45:03Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 45:03Speaker 3: So in the e FGM office upstairs. I've now pretty
- 45:06Speaker 3: gomd it's got much got three zone so desks, desk
- 45:08Speaker 3: for me to work at, and I record the FtM
- 45:10Speaker 3: podcast just at my desk, and then the lounge room,
- 45:13Speaker 3: which is the Today Show backdrop, and then the corner
- 45:16Speaker 3: is like this, it's an acoustic area and with three
- 45:20Speaker 3: cameras for video podcasting. Yeah, because may we do it?
- 45:24Speaker 3: Thirteen years we never did video because I didn't want
- 45:26Speaker 3: to fucking edit it. But then AI editing came along
- 45:30Speaker 3: and I could just drop three tracks in that actually boom,
- 45:33Speaker 3: Yeah mate, So I dropped three tracks my camera, Steven's
- 45:36Speaker 3: camera too shot and then the audio sync it up
- 45:39Speaker 3: and then just go top and tail and then click
- 45:41Speaker 3: a button and on a good Mac one and a
- 45:44Speaker 3: half minutes later, a one hour show. He's edited multiicam,
- 45:47Speaker 3: so when I'm talking, it's on me, when he's talking,
- 45:49Speaker 3: it's on me on him. It's brilliant. So yeah, like
- 45:52Speaker 3: I would never plug in or it's plug in for
- 45:55Speaker 3: w premiere. Thanks for joining us. I want to shave them.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Why get him out? This is by the way, this
- 46:02Speaker 1: is yours. I Ne've already got one, but you get another.
- 46:04Speaker 3: One can I can? I just tell you? Really, I
- 46:07Speaker 3: want to cry right now. I broke Look, I broke mine.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Oh so I didn't want to rage. Actually it was
- 46:17Speaker 3: just the closest thing on my desk and I threw it.
- 46:19Speaker 3: You're not going to I'm absolutely not gonna.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Lost because your wife said no to the right.
- 46:25Speaker 3: You don't want to know how close to the true
- 46:26Speaker 3: that story is. But it's funny because it's still sitting
- 46:29Speaker 3: on my desk. But I've put it together again because
- 46:32Speaker 3: my daughter's like, why have you got a broken cup?
- 46:33Speaker 3: I'm like, because I feel really bad that I broke.
- 46:37Speaker 3: This is the nicest bumper stickers you know where I'm
- 46:41Speaker 3: going to put that? Not on my bumper.
- 46:43Speaker 1: You're not going to put it on the on the board.
- 46:45Speaker 3: No, really no, that's not going to have to love
- 46:48Speaker 3: them on there if you want. No, probably not. Actually no, sorry,
- 46:52Speaker 3: I just realized, oh no, I could cut it this.
- 46:53Speaker 3: It's just Paul.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Do you know what? Do you know what? I actually Paul?
- 46:57Speaker 3: It actually works if he ever needed to, it just
- 46:58Speaker 3: works fine. Paul Will probably could probably phototo both the Gordy.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Do you know what?
- 47:02Speaker 1: Paul sent me a challenge right before you got in
- 47:05Speaker 1: here was to stick one of those on your coopra
- 47:08Speaker 1: born and I've just got out to do that. And
- 47:11Speaker 1: now I realized a friend of fucking Genesis GB sixty,
- 47:16Speaker 1: So I stuck on it. Anyway. The people, yeah, they
- 47:20Speaker 1: love me, they do. They genuinely listen to this podcast.
- 47:25Speaker 3: Bill Henikey. Sorry about the sticker, and is it Pete
- 47:30Speaker 3: in the garage? I'll pull the sticker off. No, don't
- 47:33Speaker 3: they love it. Actually, they were hitting me up for merch.
- 47:35Speaker 3: I've you should put some in the car. Yeah, I'll
- 47:38Speaker 3: get them. I'll give them some merch too. You know
- 47:41Speaker 3: what you meant to do with merch? You meant to
- 47:43Speaker 3: sell it.
- 47:43Speaker 1: You know we got we wanted to give it to people,
- 47:46Speaker 1: and then I realized it's actually bloody expensive.
- 47:48Speaker 3: It's really hard to send it.
- 47:49Speaker 1: It's actually really expensive to send it to Pete.
- 47:51Speaker 3: That's why I gave you boke umbrellas that time, because
- 47:53Speaker 3: it's possible to sell it.
- 47:55Speaker 1: That's on my postal by the way, just on that.
- 47:58Speaker 1: It is genuinely on my to do list this week.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Can guaranteed it's getting sent out, so ho, So.
- 48:03Speaker 3: It is people?
- 48:04Speaker 1: Actually will I think we should eventually sell stuff, but
- 48:07Speaker 1: we'll get to it this We've got.
- 48:08Speaker 2: SI just come for seventy nine to ninety five plus
- 48:11Speaker 2: eighty six dollars.
- 48:14Speaker 1: It's so bloody expensive to post ship, but I've got
- 48:16Speaker 1: a one on it. So it's going to be done,
- 48:17Speaker 1: and it will be done this weekend.
- 48:19Speaker 3: A one year old promise. It feels like it's a
- 48:21Speaker 3: really long it took.
- 48:23Speaker 1: It took a while for the for the great people
- 48:25Speaker 1: of Machines plus to get as the merge. They were
- 48:27Speaker 1: moving factories. Anyway, great people, It's next on the list,
- 48:32Speaker 1: Apple and Tesla.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so again we should stop discussing stuff off fair,
- 48:38Speaker 2: but we were discussing off air about.
- 48:40Speaker 3: Well if you had stopped eating.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that's yeah, Gordy eating when I was.
- 48:46Speaker 1: Jesus.
- 48:48Speaker 2: So I read in the Afar this morning that Apple
- 48:51Speaker 2: and Tesla's share prices have taken a hit after they
- 48:54Speaker 2: announce basically their results in China, both respectively getting boned
- 48:59Speaker 2: by Chinese public and Chinese government making certain requests of
- 49:04Speaker 2: citizens to switch phones.
- 49:06Speaker 3: And Chinese citizens follow their requests too pretty strictly.
- 49:09Speaker 2: So I'll get to Tesla in a second. Tell me
- 49:11Speaker 2: with phones, so I use an iPhone have used one
- 49:14Speaker 2: for ages, used an Android for a little while, didn't
- 49:17Speaker 2: love it.
- 49:18Speaker 1: And the Google phones are great phones. The Google Androids
- 49:21Speaker 1: are fantastic phone off.
- 49:22Speaker 2: The pigure just Google right. So now what's happening in
- 49:27Speaker 2: China is they've been told, certainly for governments, that you
- 49:31Speaker 2: can't have iPhones. And there was a quote from one
- 49:34Speaker 2: person who didn't want to be sort of directly named,
- 49:36Speaker 2: that said, basically, they came to the office and said,
- 49:38Speaker 2: you've got two weeks to get rid of your iPhones.
- 49:41Speaker 2: You're switching to Huawei's. Two weeks later, they came with
- 49:44Speaker 2: a box and anyone that hadn't gotten rid of their
- 49:46Speaker 2: iPhones was asked to put it in the box. Now
- 49:48Speaker 2: getting twenty percent off. So they're all excited because it's
- 49:52Speaker 2: a anyway, the huai Wi they're getting is like some
- 49:54Speaker 2: high end new thing with some fancy chipset. Yeah, it'll Ironically,
- 50:01Speaker 2: they were a lot of the people that were quoted
- 50:03Speaker 2: in this story were concerned about Apple's spywere.
- 50:08Speaker 3: Like, we if you think about the propaganda that exists
- 50:11Speaker 3: in Australia over China and Huawei, and for full clarity,
- 50:14Speaker 3: I have no problem with Huawei. There's no evidence they
- 50:16Speaker 3: have done anything, so I think a lot of it
- 50:18Speaker 3: is propaganda.
- 50:19Speaker 1: But anyway, so on that, I always wanted that myself.
- 50:22Speaker 3: Huawei, we're not allowed to build the five gene networks.
- 50:24Speaker 3: Who do you think built the four G networks for
- 50:26Speaker 3: Optus and vertef fucking we're still using. Well, if they
- 50:29Speaker 3: wanted to spy, they would have been fucking spying already.
- 50:31Speaker 2: And that's my Other points to that as well is
- 50:33Speaker 2: that you can open up it Huawei phone, take every
- 50:36Speaker 2: single bit apart and examine it to see if it
- 50:38Speaker 2: has anything. It would have been easy to do by now.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Yeah, And I'm all for if you want to fucking
- 50:44Speaker 1: spy on me, if you want to put the camera
- 50:46Speaker 1: on while I'm having a Wang.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Do it, because good luck to you.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Can I can just imagine some guy in like China
- 50:51Speaker 1: as they they're just there at the port.
- 50:54Speaker 3: So Huawei is just one, right, You've got Popo gell
- 50:58Speaker 3: me there are so I'm just ignoring him. Stop there
- 51:01Speaker 3: so many phone brands InChI I think it's bordering on. No,
- 51:07Speaker 3: it's not even bordering on is it that? You're right?
- 51:08Speaker 3: It is Gordy by the way, everyone that's Gordy declaration
- 51:14Speaker 3: Kiss FM, What I mean, have you lost interest in
- 51:22Speaker 3: what Paul was asking?
- 51:23Speaker 2: I don't know what you were on about anyway, continued trip.
- 51:26Speaker 3: You know, there's so many phones over I have no Seriously,
- 51:31Speaker 3: I have no doubt that they would push that because
- 51:33Speaker 3: they want their industry to boom, and Huawei has no
- 51:36Speaker 3: presence outside of China. They've got a sub brand called Honor,
- 51:39Speaker 3: which does do pretty well in the US, Weirdley and Europe.
- 51:42Speaker 3: But mate, those companies are so big that they can
- 51:45Speaker 3: churn out enough phones for everyone there, right. So look,
- 51:48Speaker 3: Apple is seen by Chinese in the same way as
- 51:51Speaker 3: the scene here. It's this prestige thing, It's this better
- 51:55Speaker 3: thing to have. But the fact is that you can
- 51:57Speaker 3: do better than Apple with just a five hundred bucks.
- 51:59Speaker 3: You don't really need to buy an iPhone, Paul. You
- 52:00Speaker 3: could just get used to her bloody a cheap Android phone. Generally.
- 52:04Speaker 3: Belief stuff this phone here that I'm using right now
- 52:07Speaker 3: throughout five hundred and fifty bucks.
- 52:10Speaker 1: About the camera stuff.
- 52:12Speaker 3: I mean, I took a bunch of photos of my
- 52:14Speaker 3: son's baseball on the weekend. It was great. I mean,
- 52:16Speaker 3: I don't have any issues with it.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Like I think it's it's more just with the rest
- 52:21Speaker 2: of mine.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Those photos away. I don't want to see one. Jesus Christ.
- 52:24Speaker 2: We actually ironically look at that.
- 52:27Speaker 3: Have you seen that vehicle?
- 52:29Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I've heard of me. Yeah.
- 52:31Speaker 3: Right, So this is a phone company or a tech
- 52:34Speaker 3: company in China making a fucking electric hire.
- 52:37Speaker 2: The designer from that designer from.
- 52:43Speaker 3: It's like, it's a beautiful looking car.
- 52:45Speaker 1: That's a nice looking car.
- 52:46Speaker 3: But see, that's what's happening in China. I was in
- 52:48Speaker 3: Shanghai and I was blown away by the number of
- 52:50Speaker 3: ev companies that I'd never heard of, Axion or something
- 52:54Speaker 3: and all these different things. They've got a ship ton
- 52:55Speaker 3: of cars.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Chris Banglereo he's helping them now with car design. But
- 52:59Speaker 2: that's the exciting thing for me with China. They have
- 53:02Speaker 2: such a booming industry of electric cars and this technology.
- 53:06Speaker 2: And ironically, the only people, as far as I'm aware
- 53:09Speaker 2: recently that have spied on anyone with the phone was
- 53:11Speaker 2: the Australian government when they set up all the criminals,
- 53:13Speaker 2: you know.
- 53:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and wasn't it wasn't there a drama with Yeah,
- 53:20Speaker 3: wasn't there done with Tether employees looking at dash cam
- 53:23Speaker 3: or internal car footage or something.
- 53:26Speaker 2: And that's actually a really valid point, and that's Tesla's
- 53:29Speaker 2: problem in China at the moment. The Chinese government won't
- 53:32Speaker 2: allow any Tesla vehicles at government sites because they're concerned
- 53:36Speaker 2: that it might be transmitting video data. And to be honest,
- 53:40Speaker 2: I can open my app and look at the camera
- 53:42Speaker 2: on my car and see what it's doing. But so
- 53:44Speaker 2: cain Tesla. And that's what employees were busted doing, sharing
- 53:47Speaker 2: videos of their customers doing shit in an internal group
- 53:51Speaker 2: that they had. And you can just imagine how further
- 53:54Speaker 2: that could go if you.
- 53:55Speaker 3: That is far worse. That is far worse than anything
- 54:00Speaker 3: Wi was accused of doing, actually at all?
- 54:03Speaker 1: Will we I feel like we brought up a story
- 54:06Speaker 1: about some guy who was having issues with his Tesla
- 54:09Speaker 1: and perhaps an ex Tesla employee managed.
- 54:12Speaker 2: To got his model y and there was a bloke
- 54:18Speaker 2: that follows us on Facebook that is what works for Tesla,
- 54:22Speaker 2: might presume. And anyway, he looked up the vin via
- 54:26Speaker 2: the regio that old boys had posted on Instagram about
- 54:29Speaker 2: his Spotify or whatever not working, and this guy was
- 54:33Speaker 2: sent to DM and goes, I fixed it for you.
- 54:35Speaker 2: He's like, what do you mean? He goes, I logged
- 54:37Speaker 2: into the car and reset the thing for you, and
- 54:39Speaker 2: he's I didn't ask you to do any of that's
- 54:42Speaker 2: so thank you.
- 54:42Speaker 3: But this poor guy's kind of thought done elbows a
- 54:45Speaker 3: favor and he's just poke.
- 54:48Speaker 2: That guy would know where I live because it will
- 54:50Speaker 2: show you where the cars parked.
- 54:53Speaker 1: He might be able to, like he would be able
- 54:55Speaker 1: to watch our boys drive.
- 54:57Speaker 2: Yeah, so I mean that that does consider YouTube.
- 55:01Speaker 1: But do you know what I mean? Kids do something
- 55:03Speaker 1: in the back unbelievable wild.
- 55:06Speaker 2: But anyway, they're now seeing Tesla's had twenty percent taken
- 55:09Speaker 2: off a share price of a recent They're struggling big
- 55:12Speaker 2: time in China. They're discounting. They're having to fast track
- 55:16Speaker 2: these facelifts, which they said they would never do. But
- 55:19Speaker 2: as it turns out, if you look at all the
- 55:21Speaker 2: new model threes on the road, there are so many
- 55:22Speaker 2: of them.
- 55:23Speaker 3: Yes, I saw three on the way here in a
- 55:25Speaker 3: twenty minute.
- 55:26Speaker 1: New ones do look good.
- 55:27Speaker 2: It's all old owners and I have castles alerts set
- 55:30Speaker 2: up for a Model three. There is like fifty a
- 55:32Speaker 2: day churning through there. It's all people upgrading to the
- 55:34Speaker 2: new one. When there isn't really that big of a difference.
- 55:37Speaker 1: If you don't care, I mean, why not, you know
- 55:40Speaker 1: what I mean.
- 55:40Speaker 2: I'm going to get People just want the newest thing,
- 55:43Speaker 2: even though it is really not that different.
- 55:44Speaker 3: They want the new BMW three series. In the year
- 55:47Speaker 3: two thousand and I moved. That was in Perth. I
- 55:49Speaker 3: moved to Sydney in two thousand and one. I was
- 55:51Speaker 3: a year old and they changed the tough front light
- 55:56Speaker 3: on mine was like an orange, the indicator of orange
- 55:59Speaker 3: and it pointed down. And on the new one it
- 56:01Speaker 3: was white and it pointed up, and the tail light
- 56:02Speaker 3: was the blinker was white and stead of orange. And
- 56:04Speaker 3: I fucking traded it in and lost. I lost stupid
- 56:08Speaker 3: money as a kid, basically and went, well, I've done
- 56:10Speaker 3: this for a facelift. People do that.
- 56:13Speaker 1: That's how they get you.
- 56:13Speaker 2: No one wants to be in.
