- 0:12SPEAKER_00: What's up everyone?
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Kids in the College podcast.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: We're not about our kids, but we all have a colony.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Let's appoint people to detail.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Alexandra, Tiffany and Topin Walton.
- 0:21SPEAKER_02: Hey guys.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: And Luke Gifton.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: Hey guys.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Ramsey can't be with us today.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: And I don't know why that feels like there was such a void in the opening.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: There's two people.
- 0:29SPEAKER_02: We're just supposed to add a people emo without Ramsey.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Why does Ramsey keep leaving?
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I listened to the podcast from last week.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Y'all were like.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Oh we did.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Was that from last week?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, which one there's like two of them that I wasn't here, and one of them y'all were like, she's gone.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Um we're never gonna see her again.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: I had to make it dramatic.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Um, so let's just get right into it.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Well, at least into our opening question.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: So our opening question for this podcast is if you could watch one completely unedited 10-minute video from any moment in human history, what moment would you pick?
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Do one biblical one and one historical one.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Mainly because I couldn't choose.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: Alright, so biblical, I'm gonna choose the easiest answer here before any of y'all can, and I'm saying David versus Goliath.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: I mean I just I want to see, bro, slime out Goliath with that sling, that'd be so cool.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: I think like every guy that's ever read the Bible has wanted to see that at some point.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: Ballet?
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Um and for historical, I'd like to see Genghis Khan pull up on the city of Otrar.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: I w I can't go into the lore because it's too much, but that's what I want to see.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: What an aspiration.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Mine for biblical is Benaniah.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: So if you don't know who Benaniah is, he's this dude in 2 Samuel that that tracked down, or at least went to a pit when it was snowy, and down into the snowy pit he went, knowing that there was a lion in there, and he killed it.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: That's crazy, bro.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: It was sick.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: You know, okay, you gotta be to look where a lion is and say, Yeah, I'm gonna go fight that thing.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm going down there.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: A sigma?
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Is it a sigma or alpha?
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Beta alpha?
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Wait, alpha, beta?
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: Definitely out of your mouth right now.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: Wait, he's a sigma.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: That guy's Ben and I is not a beta.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, beta is like, okay, sorry.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: I can't.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Yep, Delta.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Well what Delta's on.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: Threw Luke off of that one.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: My historical one is like I want to see William H.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Seward's face when he bought Alaska for seven million dollars.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Wait, I've heard of that.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Like, like he must have been like, bro, this is such a steal.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Wait, that's crazy, bro.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: What's wait, whatever happened with that?
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: How do we have well we still have Alaska?
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what happened with it.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: We bought it from Russia.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: How long ago did he buy that though?
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: It was a long time ago, but seven, I think it was$7.2 million, which is a crazy evaluation.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: The entire continent.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Completely wrong.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: What?
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: The entire continent.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Did you know?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: Bro was definitely thinking of Antarctica.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: I think in my mind it registered as Antarctica.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: And then I said it and I was like, wait, the US owens Antarctica.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: And Canada.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Luke looked and he said, what?
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Sorry guys, I promise I'm not dumb.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: I just had a moment of weakness.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Yes, weakness.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Um, those are good answers, Luke.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: Thank you, thank you.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Um, my biblical one would be the other most obvious biblical one, which is Moses partying the Red Sea.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Because obviously, like that's a good one.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: You can't go wrong with that one.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: I wanted to look up.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: I tried to chat GPT an image before this started.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: But the Wi Fi was too bad.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: So accurate.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: How are we gonna show them?
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: I was like, I want to see like kind of what it would look like.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: Pull up in the comments for Audrey's chat GPT image of the Red Sea.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And my historical um 10-minute video that I would watch is the last 10 minutes that dinosaurs were on Earth.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Not only to see how they went, but just to see them.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Like I want to see the big dinosaurs.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Seems fun.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Don't sound so surprised.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: That's actually kind of good.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: I would have never thought of that.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, it's because I'm a girl and I'm smarter.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: So true.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: I guess.
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: Did you know that um the average guy makes philosophical um realizations that girls made when they were like 12?
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: I've been seeing that over Instagram all the time.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: No, I'm making fun of the girls that post that.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: No, I'm with him.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: I believe it.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so you guys were philosophers at 12.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: To be or not to be.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: That was Audrey at 12.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Basically.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: I see stuff all the time about um things saying like guys make however many decisions a day.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Or no, no, what is it?
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: They say however many words a day, but then girls say like twice as many, and then like we wonder why.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Then the next clip is like a girl saying, Hey, can you like take off the trash?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: And the guy's like, huh?
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: And she's like, Hey, can you take off the trash?
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Huh?
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: And so huh.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: I was just like, it's so true.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Because guys are like so true, Queen.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: I I do say huh.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: So true.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Anyway, y'all.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Um, we need to get to the actual meat of this podcast.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: So that was a good discussion.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: No, it was.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: It was a really good discussion, but it's time for biblical discussions.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Everybody lock in.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: Boom.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Three, two, one, go.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: So, um, topic one for the day is Pastor Jared's message from Sunday, which was built to last, show me my part.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: So, without further ado, someone take it away.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was a horrible message.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: Just kidding, guys.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Oh god.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: I just wanted to play devil's advocate.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, as always, good message.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: He's continuing the um the built to last series, like you just said.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: Um, the series that we thought was gone, but he actually brought back near the end of the year just to because we needed to hear it, I guess.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: Spice it up.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: And I mean, he immediately hit us with the idea of to build something that lasts, we need an authority that lasts.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: And it's not a a brand new topic, like it shouldn't surprise us hearing that.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: Um, because he's he's mentioned it before.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: Like, if we want to have something that lasts, it's the idea that we have to have a solid foundation.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: So if we're gonna build our lives around something and we're gonna be taking from something, it has to be an authority that lasts.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: Um, my authority can't be some wishy-washy human authority, it has to be God.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's right.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: So such idea right off the bat that my aspirations, my uh, my desires, and what I'm built around has to be God and his word.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I mean, pretty simple concept, but right needs to be talked about.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the core of the message.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then he even used how you know there's there's biblical truth, there's what we should be building off of, but then there's also the world that isn't always trying to give you advice for your downfall, but it's not always advice we can completely rely on.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Many times he said that the world's advice or the world's understanding of things changes over time, and there's nothing wrong with learning, but we have something that is unchanging that we can learn from and build from from the start.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: It's um we'll get advice all the time, and a very common one we get today is follow your heart, do it makes you happy.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: Um, now more than ever, you're you're gonna hear that.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: You ask a random person on the street, what should I do?
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: Um, you'll probably hear some variation of that.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: Just ask enough people, you'll hear it really quickly.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: That that mindset, especially in America, that's uh it's very prevalent.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: And that's advice that directly contradicts the word of God, because the word of God tells you that your heart is deceitful.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: So you really have to be be careful on the advice where you're getting it from.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Um, the point that he brought up is if the advice doesn't align with the word of God, then it's not good advice.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: So yeah, it's just um stuff we've talked about.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: Like you you have to be aware of where you're getting your advice, have to be careful, have to weigh everything you hear, everything you allow to seep in you and and dwell in you.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: You kind of have to weigh that against the word of God.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: And kind of another um kind of like root thing in the message was how he said to build a church that lasts, we need a foundation that lasts.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: And it's important that we know that we are the foundation.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that church isn't just a building, it's the people who make make it up.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: And we are the people who do that.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Like a church would be nothing if it didn't have the people who, you know, got up and worked together to make it happen.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Like an empty building would it do anything if we got here and did nothing.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: It takes our work and our sacrifice and our spirituality to make it a church and make it what it is.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a uh very good point because I feel like some people today, you'll uh some Christians, I see them, I see posts about this online, and it always like I don't want to be too hateful, but it always makes me be like, bro, did you even read the Bible?
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: Because they're like, I love God and I have a relationship with God.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: I don't need a church.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: They're like the Bible doesn't say I need a church.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: I I I have my relationship with God, isn't that enough?
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Like, no, like Audrey just said, we are the church.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we need that.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: We're we're supposed to be with other believers, we're supposed to be trying to get other people to join us.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, people from the world, it it really is important.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I mean you need it truly.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: I see that stuff a lot too.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Because I mean part of your gifting, part of your calling is what's going to help and nourish a church, or the body as a whole, you know, as the church, to to more health, to higher heights, to, you know, a closer walk with God as a whole.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that's where he uh he really hits on um the functions of a church.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: So since we're talking about the church, he he talked about how so we just established that yeah, we need a church.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: But sometimes even if you're in a church and you're going, you can get the wrong idea as a Christian of um what a church is and your role in it.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: And this is kind of like the the second major point, I'd say, of like his message where he's talking about the church, and he talks about that as a Christian, if I'm going to church and my thought process is that the only one that is ministering in this church is the pastor or the people on the ministry team, then I'm viewing church wrong.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: And um, so yeah, we talked about church, we established that yes, we we need to go there.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: We we are the church, that's very important.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: So, with that, if we're if we're building something, we have to have the right idea of what we're building on, and we are part of that church just as much as the pastor is a part of that church.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: I'm not going to church just to receive.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: This is a this is a family, this is a a community.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and if I'm not pouring into that community, if I if I'm not, you know, it doesn't have to be preaching, but if I'm not helping, if I'm not comforting people, if I'm not encouraging people, if I'm not loving people just like the pastor would love them, or the worship leader would love them, or or anyone on our ministry team would pour into someone.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: If I'm not willing to pour into people like that, then I'm missing the mark.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: And then I even got something from one of the points he made on this topic about you know how doing your part truly it nourishes and grows the church as a whole.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: One of the things that I thought of when he said that was, well, whenever you see your pastor or somebody in ministry that's up there or very visible, and you see them, you know, just operating in the in the spirit, it's very impressive.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: It's very like you admire that person a lot, and you're like, wow.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: You know, like I aspire to have that type of maybe not to be there one day, but to to do what I can do to the best of my ability, like that.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: Well, how much more would we be inspired if the person sitting beside us on the pew was the one that we admired and like they were reaching new heights, they were reaching new things, they were completely fulfilling their calling, you know, to the best of their ability.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: That would be so much more inspirational.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Really good point, bro.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: I feel like um you had a church like that.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: I mean, not much the enemy could do to you with a church like that.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: I'll tell you something.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: I'll tell you something.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: We'd all like a church like that.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: Our churches like that, by the way.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Please come.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Shameless plug.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: Come to Point Church.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like the point he had made.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Um, he said something along the lines of like church culture has developed an idea that a minister does ministry and everyone else is just, you know, being like coming to be fed.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: And it's like true.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, yes, our pastor is our shepherd, but he's not the church.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: He's not the entire church.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: One person cannot be an entire church.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: He can lead us and also encourage us to lead others, and he can feed us, but also encourage us to feed others.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: And we are not called to just listen and just be like, oh, good point.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: We're called to do.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: We're called to take action and win souls for the kingdom of God and actually do our part.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: That's kind of what the whole message is about, you know, finding our part.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Like we're not just called to, okay, it's Sunday.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Let's go sit in a pew, listen to what Pastor J.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: Dress is saying and then leave.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: Like you're supposed to leave, changed and ready to do something new.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a very important distinction because, like you said, church is not just going to church on Sunday and maybe Wednesday if you have Wednesday services, and going and listening to the worship, listening to the pastor or the speaker preach, and then going home.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: That that's not the full encompass of what church is.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: That's um that's your worship service, that's you worshiping God, you know, that's important, very important.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: That's you receiving from God, receiving his word, that's very important.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: But that in its entirety is not church.
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: That's just a that's just a worship service.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: Very true.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, like you said, I completely agree that it it's more than that.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, and I think this is something I really wanted to talk about because I feel it's a pretty prevalent problem in today's church culture, and obviously we needed to hear it because pastor's speaking it to us, so it's probably a problem for our church specifically, too.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: That um it can be very easy to kind of adopt that mindset of uh church is just me showing up and receiving.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: Because it makes sense, like uh this is where I'm worshiping God, this is where God's moving um in his body, and this is where God's pouring into me through his word.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: So it makes sense for me to want to go and and just receive just naturally.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: And um this kind of mindset gets even more dangerous if you kind of fall in line with what Pastor Jared preached on uh previously a couple weeks ago, um, where he spoke on how we can kind of we can we can wrongly believe that uh like what we're just saying, that church is only the Sunday Wednesday experience.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: And if you start adopting that mindset to where you go to church on Sunday, you receive, you know, say God moves, you have an incredible moment with God, but you don't carry that out with you into your life, and you have the mindset of church is Sunday Wednesday, right?
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: That makes it very easy for you to fall in line of I go to church on Sunday, my week has been horrible, you know, my week's been dry.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: And if you aren't carrying that through you with the week, that's what's gonna happen.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: And so you're gonna start viewing Sunday as the day that I get refilled, the day that um fresh burst.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the day that my empty well gets refilled.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: And yes, absolutely, that's what happens.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: But if you start viewing it as only that because you aren't carrying that with you, that's good, then that's where it gets dangerous.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: And yeah, if you're viewing it like that, because I've been there, that's why I can speak like that.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: I've been at the point where, you know, kind of when I was new to taking God seriously, my relationship with God seriously, I wouldn't really carry that with me throughout the week as much as I should be.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: And I definitely had the mindset of church is where I receive, and church is where, you know, like I just said, where my empty well gets refilled.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: And if I only think that, then church Sunday it becomes about me and only me.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: And that's not where I should be at because it's all of us.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: And that's the beauty in each of our God-given purpose is that we're called to operate in it.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: We have a purpose in coming to church, not only to, you know, be close to God, but also to to bring others close to him.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: You know, because it's important that we don't just think my part isn't enough, or my part isn't as um influential as another's could be.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Like, well, one of his lines was Paul planted, Apollos watered, and God gave the increase.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Or that was one of his scriptures.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: And that just shows that two people did some work on one project, and as long as God was in it, it produced.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: I think that's a another big thing is that people don't step up, even if they are out of the stage of of just being renewed and just being refreshed, they can easily get caught up and being like, Well, I don't want to overstep.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't want to definitely I don't want to do that.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: When it it's really that just we're lacking communication.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: Like if you were to talk to the pastor, or if you were to pray more about it, maybe you'd have like, okay, I think I could at least do this, or maybe I could take a step here.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: I think it's very important that we we we take action, but you know, in the right way.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's the beauty of a serve team because you're all serving in different positions.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: Um, and you may have the the kind of wrong-ish inclination that what you're doing is not as important as, say, the worship leader.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: You're all doing different things, but you're all serving the same mission at the end of the day, and you're all serving the same God.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: Um like the Bible says, uh the body is made up of a bunch of different parts.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: And so you may be, let's say, the finger, and you may, you know, as yourself look at someone, let's just say is the eye, and you're like, How am I as important as the eye?
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: The eye is what sees.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: But that's not how the body operates.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: The body just operates.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: The body doesn't question um, why am I not the finger doesn't question why am I not the eye?
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: The eye doesn't question why am I not the heart.
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: You all just you all just work together, you're all part of the same body, you don't question it.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: And if you are feeling that, say maybe you're on the serve team and you're just a greeter, or you're I say just the greeter, not derogatory, but that's what you feel.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: You're just you're just the greeter.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, how I'm not as important as the worship leader, I'm just a greeter.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: Or maybe you're you're young, you're still in the youth group and you're helping out in kids' ministry, and you're like, my role is not that important.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: At our church, the kids, the the young people that do it, you know, they dress up as pirates and go and and uh act for the kids.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: You may think, how is this important?
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: Well, you don't realize kind of the full scale of what you're doing.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: Say a guest comes in for the first time and they're kind of iffy about a new church, and they walk through the doors, and the first thing they're met with is a cheerful greeter.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: Suddenly they feel at home, they feel welcomed.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: Um, say they had a late night, say they've been going through some stuff and they were up last night really late.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: They're tired.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: We have free coffee because the people serving in the serving the coffee even in the background, yeah.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: Like they're the ones filling up the coffee.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: And so now this tired guest gets coffee and they feel at home, they feel comfortable, they feel welcomed, they feel a bit more energized now, and they go in church and say they received the Holy Ghost.
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: Just that was their time.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: They accepted it.
- 19:41SPEAKER_02: You don't realize how all of that fits together.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: You all serve the same mission.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: You may not think that that your role was as important as the person praying with this guest when they received the Holy Ghost.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: But you helped them get there.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was all the same process.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: I think it's easy to forget how important our roles can be.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: Like if we like imagine if everybody in Kid City decided they didn't, or that's our kid ministry for those of you who couldn't just assume.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: But um, imagine if everybody working in Kid City was like, no, I'm not doing much, like I'm not really helping that much, I'm gonna quit.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: We would have no kid City.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: Like we would be, you know, that ministry would be completely empty.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Like you mean something, and you're a detrimental part of whatever serving spot that you are in.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: And another thing to remember is that not everybody has the same role, but everybody does have a role.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: Like, we're not all called to work in children's ministry, but I am.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: We're not all called to sing, but Luke is, and we're not all called to do sound, but Hudson is.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Like we have different things, but like Hudson said, like, Hudson can be the toe, Luke's the finger and on the eye.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, we don't have to question, like, oh, why is he the eye?
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: Or why see the toe?
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Like, it's not the point.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: Hey, we're a complete body, yay.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: That's right, and this is um, this is why it's so important to really see it like that, because like you said, Audrey yes, our pastors are shepherd, like a hundred percent.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying that I just start treating my pastor like uh like my best friend, like my pastor's my pastor, and when he speaks, you know, I listen to that.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: That's yeah, that's our shepherd.
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: But at the same time, that does not mean that that you are less in your role in the kingdom because you're not the pastor.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: Um years ago, um, probably like five or six at this point, back when I was still in high school, I believe, so it's been a while, um, I had the opportunity to go to the motion conference in Texas with a few of the people here at our church.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: And the um the pastor, he was kind of talking about uh and his name's escaping me.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: I'm sure if you just look up motion conference in Texas, you'll find it.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: But he was speaking that night, the pastor of that church they were hosting it at.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: Um, and he says something that stuck with me all the time because he was talking about this kind of the same topic we're talking about about the serve team, or that about how their serve team works.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Um, it was a church growth conference, so he was talking about how their serve team works, and he was saying.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: that my church um doesn't feel I'm probably butchering exactly what he said, but it was kind of it was kind of this idea that he was saying that his he doesn't feel that his church is successful unless someone a completely new guest can get the Holy Ghost without him ever interacting with him as the pastor.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: And I don't think he said he doesn't feel it's successful, but he he highlighted the point that guests get the Holy Ghost.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: Without him being involved and that's how it should be because we should all be doing this.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: It's not just the the point I'm trying to say is it stuck with me because it helped me realize that it's not just the pastor's job.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: And that's the right that's the point uh he was bringing about that it's not just the pastor's job that we're a body.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: And so for him it was beautiful to see that his surf team was capable, that his body was doing its job that a guest could come in, never even interact with the pastor and everything from the from the greeters to the person helping them find a seat whatever the term for that is seatfinder?
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: That's a good one.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: All of that it all worked and a guest was able to come through and receive the Holy Ghost and become a member of that church and never even met the pastor until after.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: And that's how it should be because we're a body.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: It's not all the pastor and that's definitely something Pastor Jared hit on that it's not just the pastor's job.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: Nowhere in the Bible does it say that Pastor does everything.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah that it's just Pastor Jared's job to bring in the presence of God and to and to work this whole church like no we're a body.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: I know it's important like I like that you put it like that because it's like we can't stand by and watch our pastor you know like jump through hoops and save souls and outreach and encourage and do countless jobs that we expect him to do because it's his ministry and not ours.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: Like he I mean he had used Pastor Jared even had a little story about you know whenever he first became pastor somebody went to him with an idea.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: They were like hey um I think that since what did they say like since you're in leadership that somebody should really go around like church point and outreach.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: Knock on every door.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah knock on every door and invite them to church.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: And then you know Pastor Jared took that as hey I'm gonna do that.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Like it's a good idea.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: But that's not the person meant no you should do it or like you should find someone to do it.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: It's not me.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: Like how many times have we had that mindset without really thinking about it.
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: It's true.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: Like how many times have I thought okay like this would be a really good idea.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: This would probably like win a lot of souls or like be a really encouraging thing for somebody but I'm gonna let somebody else do it.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Like I'm not gonna have part in it because that's just kind of like not me.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah we can sorry we can very sometimes unintentionally take the more passive role like in that um you may feel that it's better if someone more in quotation marks capable than you takes care of that.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: So you're like like you just said yeah that's a great idea someone should go out and reach these people these people are hungry I can see that someone that has that's closer with quotation marks to God should go and do that.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah um and you can kind of adopt that passive mentality where you can see the need you can see the burden but you kind of just sit back and like oh I'll let the people that are in quotation marks again qualified handle that.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: No you're supposed to be doing that.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: I mean sorry that sounds like not trying to call you out because we all need to hear that but that's what the Bible says that you know we're we're supposed to be reaching people.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: That reminds me of that quote you know the quote that's like God doesn't call the qualified he qualifies the called yeah yeah it's just like that like you don't have to be you're never going to have it all together.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: God's not waiting for you to get it perfectly like everything in your life lined up and then he'll be like okay right now go be missionary.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: Like no he's gonna be like go be a missionary and you're gonna be like what why and he's gonna be like just do it and then you're gonna do it.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: Then you're gonna be qualified.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: It's exact that's exactly what I was thinking about and I wanted to add to it because we many times we think or we're waiting for this like Saul to Paul moment.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: We're waiting to be struck down off of our donkey and blinded.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah whereas what we need to do is literally just look before us and take the next step even if we don't know why we're taking that step or you know am I really supposed to be going this way?
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah well as long as the Lord is directing you and you feel like you're obeying in that way take that small step.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: Because many times those small things you don't think are for a real purpose you know right now we lose perspective and we're like and we we think like oh this isn't gonna matter for what my calling is because like I feel like a big emphasis is put on that as in like oh you're gonna get one word that defines your calling.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Maybe it's something that you do or maybe it's who you are you know to certain people.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: You know it you don't have to be oh I'm changing from Saul to Paul whenever I get my uh whenever I know what my calling is supposed to be.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: I think we're called to operate in the way we are now and grow in that.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: I I really like that idea um Luke because it's very true.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: We can feel like we need the the the Saul the the Paul moment or just a defining moment in our life that we're waiting for God to pretty much move all the pieces for us right and completely change us and then oh we're we're on fire.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: Once God does his part then I'm gonna go out and reach when it's it's more like you said it's it's the smaller things the things you may not think are that impactful um but you just got to do them.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah um outside of like you know maybe outside of the 0.01% of scenarios you're never gonna go to church for the first time and then the next week be speaking at a conference.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: Like God's like yes he can that's why I left the 0.01 but for most people it's a process and it's and it's through doing you know just the one-on-one Bible studies with a coworker or a classmate.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: It's not just the big defining moments where you come to church with all this baggage and God completely changes you and now suddenly you're going out and saving everyone.
- 28:03SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: You wouldn't be ready to do that.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah no it's um it's part of the experience honestly like part of the growth of it is the fact that you know you didn't just step into this amazing calling like miraculously I'm like like you said not that it can't happen.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: Like God can literally give you a dream and you can wake up the next morning a completely changed man.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: But that's not the case for everyone and sometimes part of the spiritual walk and the growth of it is the fact that you started you know wherever you thought was insignificant and you got up to the point where you finally feel like you know like this is this is good.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: Like I'm doing something.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah I was definitely um highlighting how that whole mentality can contribute to you being passive and you're in your work like Luke was saying you can you can neglect all the small things that you should be doing because you're sitting there preparing and waiting and like God balls in your court just do something huge in my life so I can go reach people when God's like dude you have the Holy Ghost bro like my spirit's in you that's right go out and spread that you know the the gospel you know the truth it's being poured into you go out and spread it now.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: He's not God isn't sitting there waiting for you to become a professional speaker before you go out and give a Bible study.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah he's not waiting for you to practice for a year and master public speaking outside of the church before you come to church and speak your first sermon.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: That's right um that would be nice but that's not always unfortunately that's not that's not how it works all the time like I'm sure Hudson would have loved to have some experience before well what did you say was it Brother Jeron just called you one day was like hey you're speaking at Paul's next Sunday yeah it was uh or something along that it was literally that he touched very quick and just like hold on let me go get my like public speaking degree real quick.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah and he was like can you speak someday and I was like sure yeah but um but I mean thankfully I have a podcast and yeah a little bit I still had some experience but uh but yeah it's not always you get a whole like years to prepare to perfect before you go into the role and sometimes we can feel like that we need all that before we can move forward and now it's just go do it now.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Just every day yeah and that's that perspective is important.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah having the perspective of now and today instead of oh what's in the future because like like okay I got a I got a little image for y'all to like have in y'all minding rolls.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: I love it can I close my eyes to do it?
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Yes do it all right so you're sitting in a deer blind it's on the ground there's six windows in it you have one window open.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Why don't you have at least two or three windows open?
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Maybe you know you have a couple in the back that are closed because you know you don't want other things to see you or whatever.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: But what if you're looking for the right thing but in the wrong place.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: You're looking through one window whereas you have two or three others that you could be looking at the like different vantages from True.
- 31:00SPEAKER_02: So you can be looking for the right thing the deer but at the wrong perspective or at the wrong time just because of your window of like oh I'm looking for this only I'm not I'm gonna look for it this way I'm gonna look for the future in this instance you know what my t the title the grand title of my calling is yeah rather than oh maybe maybe it's like in these other places maybe it's in somewhere I don't expect yeah maybe it's in the everyday and yeah that's good smart but but yeah that's good because I'm not gonna say that like the people that are listening to this podcast that we're speaking to and us, we're not evil all right like right I feel like most of us know that yes we're called to reach people we're called to pour into people um but like Luke said may just be focusing on in the wrong area yes right you you you know you're there for the deer the deer being in my example to to reach people to reach to pursue your calling but you may get caught up in the wrong window.
- 32:13SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 32:13SPEAKER_02: You should just be helping people you don't have to reach a certain point in your calling before you go out and um give a Bible study or encourage someone or pour into someone and you may be holding yourself back if because you feel it's not your place or you aren't ready enough.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: Well I mean I don't think we can say it enough like we're trying to get it through all of our skulls that because we need to hear it too that just go out and do it.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: Like we're all a body.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: Which is the hardest thing starting correct me if I'm wrong but I want to say a while back we kind of brought up we didn't even talk about this today yet but kind of the trust in God part of it.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: Like we kind of forget that the trust isn't in our ability to do the calling or to take the first step.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: It's in the fact that once we do get out of our shell and take that first step, God's got us in his hand.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: Absolutely we're not stepping into the abyss we're stepping into God's plan and his walk for us.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: Like there's we should be more than excited to do that, you know, more than like ready and like you know I completely trust God.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: And I know that's easier said than done for sure.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: You know it is hard to take a first step if it's something super big or even if you know you're an introvert and it's something small.
- 33:21SPEAKER_00: Like it could be a big deal for you.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: But an important thing to remember is that this is God's plan.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: Like God's plan for you is to fulfill your calling and is to step out and do what you're called to do.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: So don't be scared to do that.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: Just remember that God's going to be with you every step of the way yeah and and all this that that we've just talked about over like the past like 20 minutes or so this kind of ties into the point that he brought up at the kind of the the end of his message that I really want to hit on because it's it's it's important to be aware of it.
- 33:54SPEAKER_02: He brought up the point that the enemy he doesn't have to get us to leave the church entirely because that's a lot more difficult for him than just getting us focused on the wrong things, getting us to stop doing our part as the body it's a lot easier for the enemy to get me and myself to come to church and just start being passive and putting all the weight on the pastor and the worship leader and the ministry team and the serve team the people you see and it's a lot easier for him to convince me that I'm just a churchgoer.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: I'm going to receive I'm going to worship I'm going to have a good worship service but but that's it.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah it's a lot easier to get distracted of that than for the enemy to get me to leave the church entirely.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: And um like we said it's very easy to do that you can I think you had said it um Audrey you can adopt the mindset of somebody else will do it.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: It's true pastor will do it.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: We have a we have a serve team we have ministers here we have a care pastor we we have a grief connect group I mean someone's gonna get to it I don't I don't have to do that.
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: And you know you may not be cynical about it.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: You're not lazy but that's just the it's it's kind of like there's some uh there's some term some psychological term I'm looking for but it's escaping me so I'm not gonna make myself sound stupid but but uh but but we do that it's right and it's very easy if we're not careful.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: And I think the question at the end of the day isn't am I going to church?
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: Because I feel like if you're listening to this podcast you probably are going to church the question is really am I functioning as a part of this body?
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah because you can go to church and not be doing that.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: Like um like the more involved you are basically like not in this term but kind of like the less likely you are to backslide.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: Like if you are actively in one or multiple ministries at your church the l like the harder it is for you to just skip a few Sundays and nobody's gonna notice.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: Like you know I mean there are so many roles at church that you could be part of like you don't even realize like you don't have to just be straight up you know a worship leader.
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: You don't have to go start preaching.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: You don't have to do like crazy things that you're not comfortable with the we have a barista role.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: Like we have barista we have prepper we have like start here booth like we have so many things that you can start at and be like comfortable if that's what's comfortable for you.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: Like that can even be taking your first step just like serving in any way shape or form is serving.
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: And I uh I figured out what it was it's the bystander effect it just wasn't coming to me.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: It's literally it it's a psychological uh condition where the more people are present the less you feel personally responsible.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: So you know with your church in a room you're gonna feel a lot less personally responsible to go and do that thing.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: That's why it's so easy in the church everything's already around you happening.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: You have a pastor yeah you have a ministry team you have other believers who are in quotation marks more qualified than you so it's very easy to especially if you're a new believer to sit there and be like others should handle this.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: Others will handle this.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: I don't have to do anything that's right um and you know you may not tell yourselves those things but deep down that that's how you're feeling yeah and um so yeah I think that's just I feel like we're beating a dead horse at this point talking about it because I mean if you don't have it by now or if you don't have it by now you're not gonna get it but uh yeah just realize that God isn't requiring you to be perfect before you start doing these things.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: You don't have to be a pastor you don't have to be a minister um we're all part of the same body and from the toenail and the pinky toe to the brain we're all as important to the body.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah so yeah.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: And one more thing like whenever I was listening to the message like like halfway through like right when it started and I was hearing you know what it was about like you know oh well wait did we even say the main thing about show me my part we didn't wow so guys LAPIP message was called show me my part.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah um I mean you could obviously just take context clues you're looking for your part you you don't have to know yeah but this is the practical we kind of just talked about it.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: This is kind of like what should I do?
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: So um obviously showing show me my part is you know you want to find out what ministry you belong in.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: Don't we have a quiz for that or something or like a class?
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah after first steps first steps yeah we kind of have first steps I don't know if like every church does something similar I don't know but you know if you're interested in serving it's like a gifting quiz oh yeah the UPC I'm sure a bunch of churches do it.
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: But yeah I mean like there's things like quizzes and classes on you know what if you're not even sure what ministry or what part you should have I mean you can look you could find out from a quiz literally yeah that's right and like number one thing uh pray about it obviously like yeah yeah you should have preface it with that um pray uh not calling out Audrey but I feel like that's kind of it's kind of like should be unspoken at this point that first you know and Pastor Jerry bought it up directly pray about it if you're not sure God what is my part?
- 38:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah I mean that's right just ask him and then yes of course consult a ministry in your church.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah if you don't have like a quiz or or a a class talk one on one with your youth pastor your pastor a minister a mentor in your life good advice that's that's how you practically go about this.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: Um which that actually brings me to what I was gonna say was my last thing was I didn't even like this isn't you know a point about the message this was just kind of like what I took from the message so whenever I started listening to it you know I heard like show me my part and I started hearing what he was talking about and I was kind of like I didn't zone out but I was also like mentally like okay well I mean it doesn't really apply to me I serve in like seven or eight different spots like I'm like obviously I know kind of my part but then I realized like no I don't like I know that like you know I sing and I know that I work in kids ministry and I know I do this and that but it's also like there's more like I don't I'm not just confined to those things.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: Like one day what might be my calling now I could be elevated to another like level in like 10 years.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: And so I was like you know even if you think that you know oh I serve like I have a part think about it even deeper.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: Like God what what am I missing?
- 40:02SPEAKER_00: Like what do I not know yet that I should be doing should I be you know an interceder?
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: Should I be doing this?
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: Like there are so many deeper level things that you could be called to if you actually just ask God show me my part show me a deeper calling it's true.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: Absolutely I I really like that because me having a specific calling doesn't disqualify me from doing other things.
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: Like yeah I'm not I'm not just a sound guy as me Hudson I'm not just um a podcast uh member I don't just speak on a podcast like me having those those callings or roles in this season of my life doesn't disqualify me from encouraging and helping a a grieving brother in the church or that's right or showing up for someone or being a part of the community or helping someone in the church or reaching out or teaching a one-on-one Bible study or just loving someone that needs it.
- 40:58SPEAKER_02: I don't stop doing all those things because you know I'm I'm a sound guy.
- 41:04SPEAKER_02: I'm the sound guy yeah I don't do those things yeah that's not my job I don't do outreach that's somebody else's job I think uh I think if you if you find yourself having that view where you think you're only supposed to be doing what you know your your role is or your calling you're kind of looking at it wrong because um I feel like that that also goes in line with if you're viewing your calling and your role in the body as is this impressive um because those two those two can can go in line and if you're viewing your role in the body um off of a off of a scale of if is this impressive or not you're also missing the mark there because it's not about how impressive your role is yeah it's just are you doing your role faithfully yeah and doing your role faithfully doesn't just mean you're doing that.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah so um our next topic is gonna be James four eleven through seventeen um I'm not even gonna try to remember what y'all did last week but this was the ones before that one yes so I'm guessing one through ten.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: Yep it it was I'm just telling y'all so now we're doing four three wait eleven stop four eleven through seventeen okay so I've decided I'm gonna start because you guys always get first dibs and I want first dibs for once.
- 42:45SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: So verse 11 says don't speak evil against each other dear brothers and sisters if you criticize and judge each other then why wait then you are criticizing and judging God's law but your job is to obey the law not to judge whether it applies to you.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: Um so I think we talk about judging wait didn't we talk about what was the one no was it in I mean through James and Proverbs we've talked about judging like over and over because it's repeated it's pretty important.
- 43:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah I think we all know like a thousand verses about judging like like judge not lest you be judged or like right what is it like he that is without blame like throw the first stone or whatever.
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: Like there's so many things about you know judging and obviously it's yeah big time frowned upon and we shouldn't be focusing on what others are doing wrong because we are also doing wrong.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah and I like how uh James he he connects the idea of judging others to uh humility because if you're judging uh believers you're kind of putting yourself in the position of God and so you've kind of lost some of that humility because if you're judging the brothers and sisters around you you may not be saying this with your words but this is what you're doing.
- 43:57SPEAKER_02: You're you're putting yourself on the same level as God because only God God's job can judge what's going on in our hearts and what we're doing.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: I didn't write the Bible.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: I did not set these laws.
- 44:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: I I didn't do any of this.
- 44:09SPEAKER_02: That's all that's all the big man, bro.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: That's all God.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: I had no part in that.
- 44:13SPEAKER_02: So for me to start judging other believers, that's kind of me saying, like, oh, I'm up there with you, God.
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: I I I'm one of the good ones, dude.
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: I'm right here, man.
- 44:23SPEAKER_02: That that guy over there, he's messing up bad.
- 44:25SPEAKER_02: I'm on your side, God.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: I I I know he's messing up bad.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: I need to call him out.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: Like, no, you are raising yourself up and putting yourself kind of on the same level.
- 44:33SPEAKER_02: And that is not my place.
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: That's not your place.
- 44:37SPEAKER_02: It's not anyone's place.
- 44:38SPEAKER_00: Um I like what you said about the rules.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: Like, you didn't write the rules.
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: Like, we didn't write the rules.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: We're just gonna we're not supposed to be enforcing them.
- 44:44SPEAKER_00: We're just like obeying them.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: Like we're gonna have to listen, but you know, it's also not our job to like lash out on people who disobey.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's part of free will.
- 44:53SPEAKER_00: Like, I mean, will we just sit by and let things happen?
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: Like, encourage people to do good.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but you cannot go judge them and be like, you're going to hell if you do this.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: Because I mean, like, yeah, obviously, if you have like a serial killer at your church, yeah, you're gonna want to get that dude out of there.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah if he's not that behind.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: Like, obviously, there's some uh exceptions in a way, but that's still not judging, you know.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: We're not like looking at the sky.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: Well, not never mind.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: There's also but they're like what you're saying, there is also a righteous judgment.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: Like I think we talked about it in one of like the the group discussions or but like uh Bible studies on a Wednesday night.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: Um, Pastor Jonathan was actually talking about it.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: He was saying that you know you you have to be able to discern like who your friends are going to be.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Like he gave that example of how you can have somebody that's maybe a g they're good, you think, and then you meet them or you you know, you you just get some I don't know.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: He he he kind of set it to where you judge the way they live, and you're like, oh, should I be in proximity to this person?
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: You know, it it's almost like you're distancing yourself to protect yourself, not to you know, cast them down or make them feel like oh oh you're a sinner.
- 46:03SPEAKER_02: You know, and the thing is is that that mindset is not evil in any way, right?
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: And in America, especially today, we spoke about it earlier, the whole do what's best for you, do what makes you happy, with that being the prevalent mindset of our culture, something like what you just said, Luke, can feel evil.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: Because if all you're hearing is I just do what's best for me, I do what makes me happy, and then you have someone telling you, actually, what you're doing is wrong, that's not good for you, you're gonna take that as an attack, and you're gonna see that as this person's being evil to me when that's not how it is at all.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: Pastor Jared said it in his message that disagreement is not evil.
- 46:47SPEAKER_02: Like if I have my friend telling me to go uh kick you and knock you over, Luke, because I didn't like something you said, that friend is not giving me good advice and me telling him, bro, no, that's not me being evil.
- 47:02SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, making a righteous judgment um based off of you distancing yourself from a certain uh group of people or thing or or or thing or just a mindset that you don't want to be around because it's not good for your walk with God, that isn't evil.
- 47:18SPEAKER_02: That's why I feel like um James in verse 11, that's why he says don't speak evil.
- 47:24SPEAKER_02: He doesn't say don't uh don't go to your brother one-on-one.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: If your brother in Christ, you know he's been messing up.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: Don't James doesn't say, Yeah, don't go, don't go to him and be like, hey bro, I I see you're struggling, you want to talk about it?
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: James isn't saying don't do that.
- 47:41SPEAKER_02: He's not saying to not reach out, yeah, reach out or call them out in quotation marks.
- 47:47SPEAKER_02: Because if you're going out in front of the church and being like, you're a sinner, you know, that's not true.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: You're criticizing them like he says not to or judging.
- 47:52SPEAKER_02: But James isn't saying, don't go to them and be like, yo, bro, I see you're messing up.
- 47:56SPEAKER_02: I've been praying for you.
- 47:58SPEAKER_02: Let's figure this out.
- 47:59SPEAKER_02: Like, that's not what James is saying.
- 48:00SPEAKER_02: Let me help typically says evil.
- 48:03SPEAKER_02: There's a big difference between that and say, I have a gossiping problem, and Audrey's like going to everyone in the church being like, That Hudson has such a big gossip, or you need to watch yourself around him.
- 48:14SPEAKER_02: And she calls me out and criticizes me.
- 48:17SPEAKER_02: That's what you shouldn't be doing.
- 48:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right.
- 48:19SPEAKER_02: So there's a very gossiping about double gossip.
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: But um, that's where the judgment and criticizing comes in because you can go to someone and tell them like straight up what you're doing is is wrong.
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: You know it, I know it, I love you, I'm praying for you.
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: I want what's best for you.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: Let's figure this out one-on-one.
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: That's not judgment, that's not criticizing them.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: That's um just someone's a little down on their luck, or maybe they lost their way a bit, and you're trying to help them.
- 48:46SPEAKER_02: That that's not judgment, and that's a very clear distinction because I don't want because I I don't want there to be a a mindset of I don't want to use the word weak because that sounds harsh.
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say weak Christians, but that's not really what I'm going for.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: That's pretty harsh.
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: But I don't want us as believers to feel like we can't reach out to other people because our culture today is so strongly do what makes you happy.
- 49:13SPEAKER_02: And oh, they seem happy, they're smiling, you know.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: They still have a relationship with God.
- 49:17SPEAKER_02: Who am I to to say anything about that?
- 49:20SPEAKER_02: Like, no, we should be strengthening each other, or you're gonna hurt your hurt their feelings or something like that.
- 49:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and obviously, again, this is not I'm not saying, you know, go call them out and criticize them and make sure everyone knows all the wrong they've done.
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, or or go try to fix their lives.
- 49:35SPEAKER_02: That's not that's not it.
- 49:37SPEAKER_02: But like you just said, it's it's it's not evil to to go to them and be like, you're messing up straight up.
- 49:44SPEAKER_02: And and I can see it because I love you and I'm paying attention to you and I want what's best for you.
- 49:48SPEAKER_02: Um that is not hostile, that is not evil.
- 49:51SPEAKER_02: That is not you criticizing them.
- 49:53SPEAKER_02: Um it's being a brother in Christ.
- 49:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, when when when Pastor Jared's up there preaching a message to us and say, maybe I'm sitting in that crowd and that message is really hitting me because I needed to hear it and it's correcting me.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: That's not Pastor Jared being evil to me.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: I needed to hear that.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: Um, dude.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, hello.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: Pastor Jared literally said that in the message, but I wasn't gonna say it because y'all like we like just kind of went past, but he literally said, and that just reminded me of it.
- 50:18SPEAKER_00: Like he was talking about culture, like advice that's coming from our culture is moving like further and further from the things of God.
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: And it's so true because even things like parenting, like you'll see parents actually correcting and like not punishing crazy, but like punishing and correcting their kids out of love, and the world's trying to say that it's abuse, it's mental and physical abuse that they're trying to put upon their children because they're not quote unquote listening to them.
- 50:42SPEAKER_00: And it's just it's crazy things that you're seeing.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: Like you can't even be a biblical parent anymore without being like accused of like or criticized for it.
- 50:51SPEAKER_00: And this whole world is saying, like, leave me alone, I'm happy, like I'm following my heart.
- 50:54SPEAKER_00: This is what I want to do.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: And it's like correction is literally something that like seeking wise counsel and correction and taking advice from you know wise people, it's stuff that the Bible encourages, and it's just crazy that the world is you know twisting it to be another thing.
- 51:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and um and yeah, talking about uh yeah, before I even go on, I I completely agree that that yeah, um, that's why I brought up the whole culture thing in the first place, because yeah, Pastor Jared hit on it, but and it's just something that we as Christians today we we have to recognize that we have to understand it.
- 51:28SPEAKER_02: Um especially for young people growing up in this.
- 51:31SPEAKER_02: Um it's a scary world out there, and and that mindset of do what's best for you, do what makes you happy, is so prevalent, and that's why so many people feel attacked when they get corrected, because the loudest voice that our generation is hearing is that you do what makes you happy, and anyone else who's coming who's telling you that's wrong, they're attacking you.
- 51:55SPEAKER_02: And that's the loudest voice.
- 51:57SPEAKER_02: And so it if as a part of this culture, that just naturally parts of that culture since we live in this day and age, they're gonna start to seep in if you're not careful.
- 52:08SPEAKER_02: So you you a brother can come to you or a sister can come to you, and they're trying to help you, and you can take that as an attack.
- 52:16SPEAKER_02: And no, I don't think that you know that's a huge thing that everyone's dealing with.
- 52:21SPEAKER_02: That's listen, I'm not saying that, I'm just saying that that's that's how it works with culture.
- 52:25SPEAKER_02: And um, so that's why this is important that you go into a believer, they're messing up, and you read the Bible and you know that adultery is a sin.
- 52:36SPEAKER_02: I'll just use the obvious one, and you know, your brother in Christ is committing adultery, making it very obvious.
- 52:41SPEAKER_02: You going up to him and being like, What you're doing is wrong.
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: Let me show you why.
- 52:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:48SPEAKER_01: Not not just like, oh, or what dude, what good would speed judgment is me just immediately deciding that this person's evil.
- 52:57SPEAKER_02: I know what's going on in their lives, I know what's going on in their heart, and I make up all this stuff about them.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: I tell other people what's going on in their heart, um, because I think I know.
- 53:06SPEAKER_02: I go up to them with a preconceived idea that I figured out that they're evil.
- 53:11SPEAKER_00: Um that's it's funny because that's exactly like it's the fact that it's a real scenario that happens.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's that's how it's like, oh, I think they're actually evil.
- 53:20SPEAKER_00: Let me tell everybody why they're evil.
- 53:21SPEAKER_02: Like even if you don't go and tell everyone, just you you seeing that and thinking again, bring it up to what James says, you kind of put yourselves in God's pedestal because you're like, oh, I see them sin, I know what's going on in their lives, I know they're evil, I know they're messed up, I know what kind of person she is, I know what kind of person he is.
- 53:38SPEAKER_02: Now you're kind of putting yourself in God's shoes.
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: Because God is the judge, God is the only one that sees what's going on in the heart.
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just feel like we have to talk about it because there's a lot of nuance there.
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: And that's very important that you do it in the right way.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: Because for the for the reasons as you explained, but also because I feel like right now it's the hardest, like the in the time that we live in, it's really hard to learn because you have so like information overload from the world and from you know, different interpretation of the Bible, of and of you reading by yourself.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's so many different inf inputs of like information that's just flowing, flowing, flowing, and you gotta know, you know, what do I take, what do I, what do I hold on to?
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: And it's like because sometimes the world, like in their definitions, can be right.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: But like, yeah, sometimes that can change, you know, just with time, like Pastor Jared was talking about.
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: The cool thing though is we can lay our foundation with the word, and obviously I feel like that we can always go back to that, but I think that learning the right way is important in this day and age, truly.
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, and that's why it ties all the way back to Pastor Jerry's message um perfectly with if we're gonna build our lives on something, it has to be on something unchanging, it has to be on the word of God.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: That's why all the advice we hear, everything that we get, we should be weighing it against the word.
- 55:02SPEAKER_02: Because yeah, absolutely.
- 55:03SPEAKER_02: The the world you can hear something from the world from a self-help book or from a motivational speaker, and it aligns with the word of God.
- 55:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's right.
- 55:12SPEAKER_02: Uh a motivational speaker uh doesn't have to be a preacher or be a Christian to tell you that discipline's good.
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: Like that's in the Bible.
- 55:21SPEAKER_02: Um that's just that's good advice.
- 55:24SPEAKER_02: And so, yeah, you can see a motivation motivational speaker say that, and you can look in the Bible and say, Oh, proverbs says I should be disciplined and work hard.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, boom, you know?
- 55:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it takes roots in the Bible.
- 55:33SPEAKER_02: That's good advice.
- 55:35SPEAKER_02: But you may hear that advice from that motivational speaker, and now you start believing more and more things from the world without actually checking it, and now you're going down a rabbit hole.
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: Or you believe everything that that speaker, now that you think that they said that one credible thing, it's just very difficult.
- 55:49SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's so many like small things that there's so many ways we could like pick at that and pick apart all the situations that that happens, but at the end of the day, it boils down to the idea of if you're getting advice from outside the word of God or from mentors in the word of or in the church or anything of that nature, weigh it against the Bible.
- 56:10SPEAKER_02: That that's how you know at the end of the day, because we can give you all the examples in the world, talk about personal scenarios, but right at the end of the day, that's the point.
- 56:17SPEAKER_02: Weigh it against the word of God.
- 56:19SPEAKER_02: It's so important, like Luke was saying, um, especially in this day and age, where again the most prevalent voices follow your heart and do it, makes you happy.
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: It's so important to weigh everything against the word of God that that cannot be understated.
- 56:32SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: And then, my friends, was verse one.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, the first verse.
- 56:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, we covered verse 12.
- 56:41SPEAKER_00: It just says God alone who gave the law as the judge, he alone has the power to save or to destroy.
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: So, what right do you have to judge your neighbor?
- 56:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because that's the same idea that if you start judging like that way, like actually judging and criticizing, you're putting yourself in God's shoes.
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: And that's a big no-no, bro.
- 56:55SPEAKER_02: You don't want to be doing that.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 56:58SPEAKER_02: I thought Luke was about to end the podcast.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: No, that my friends is it.
- 57:03SPEAKER_02: I have to go home.
- 57:05SPEAKER_00: Um, so verse 13 and 14, you know, we could do a keep going.
- 57:10SPEAKER_00: So verse 13 and 14 says, Look here, you who say today or tomorrow, we are going to a certain town and will stay there for a year.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: We will do business there and make a profit.
- 57:18SPEAKER_00: How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow?
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: Your life.
- 57:24SPEAKER_00: My reading skills went so bad right there.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow?
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: Um, your life is like the morning fog.
- 57:31SPEAKER_00: It's here a little while and then it's gone.
- 57:34SPEAKER_00: Um you know, we always hear like you aren't promised tomorrow, like tomorrow's not promised, but it's so true.
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like you really are not promised tomorrow, and like you can't be making plans for tomorrow, like making them your own at least.
- 57:46SPEAKER_00: You know, like, oh, tomorrow I'm gonna like I'm gonna go on vacation in like a month.
- 57:51SPEAKER_00: Like, no, no, no.
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: You have to be saying, like, if if the Lord allows, I'll wake up tomorrow.
- 57:56SPEAKER_02: Literally, and like James isn't sitting or writing this in saying that you know, preparing and planning is foolish.
- 58:03SPEAKER_02: No, yeah, no, not that.
- 58:05SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, I'm not saying you're saying that.
- 58:06SPEAKER_02: I just want to get the good point to make.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: Because like planning a vacation isn't a sin.
- 58:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, because you see it in Proverbs that yes, we should we shouldn't just twiddle our thumbs and go through life idly by.
- 58:15SPEAKER_02: We should be planning and preparing.
- 58:16SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 58:17SPEAKER_02: But there's a very clear difference between preparing with God at the sinner and in your future in mind with what James is highlighting.
- 58:24SPEAKER_02: Because if you look at the example he's using in this verse, these people making these, these hypothetical people making these plans are are saying, Today or tomorrow we're going to a certain town and we'll stay there over a year.
- 58:37SPEAKER_02: No doubt.
- 58:38SPEAKER_02: We'll stay there, we will do business here and make a profit.
- 58:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: There's no if, there's no but, there's no um, there's no God.
- 58:49SPEAKER_02: You look at their plans, they they don't consider God in those plans.
- 58:53SPEAKER_02: It's just I'm going here, I will make a profit, I will be here a year from now.
- 58:57SPEAKER_02: They're so certain of their future without considering God in it, and that's the danger.
- 59:01SPEAKER_02: That's why if we skip ahead, um to verse 16, he's saying, otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans and all such boasting is evil.
- 59:12SPEAKER_02: If you read those previous passages as bro, what's wrong?
- 59:14SPEAKER_02: They're just like planning for the future, don't we all do that?
- 59:17SPEAKER_02: And then you get to verse 16 and see James is calling that evil, that may come as a shock to you.
- 59:21SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: Because he's not saying that planning is bad.
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: If the distinction is if you're planning out your whole future without God and you know, in that at all, yeah, and you have so much certainty to be like, I will do this, I will do that, this is going to happen in my future, and you're saying that without God involved, that's becoming kind of prideful.
- 59:44SPEAKER_02: You're you're putting faith in your planning and your skills over.
- 59:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, without even thinking about it.
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that's why he's saying that's pretentious and evil.
- 59:56SPEAKER_02: Like, I mean, it's it'd be contradicting the Bible itself to say that planning itself is evil.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_02: That's uh you should not read this passage and take that from it.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_02: That's what I really wanted to highlight.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: And I like the way that you said that because it is a very important point to take from this, not just like, oh, we we shouldn't plan.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: We should just leave it to God and you know, hope everything goes well.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because God wants you to be active, right?
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: But it kind of made me think also about a different thing.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: I have a question for you guys to answer or to think about.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_01: Do you guys think that there is a big enough difference in believing in yourself and seeing that you will do something or become successful?
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_01: Or is it like is that okay, or is ambitious confidence too much?
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_01: Because according to this scripture, it's like they have a lot of confidence, but it's almost like it's in the wrong way.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_01: So is there I guess my question truly is is there an instance in which ambitious confidence is okay?
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_02: I think there's um nuance.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_02: I think if like what you're saying, you are so confident in your skills that say you're you're starting to work for a new company, and you're so confident that you're like, I'm gonna stay here five years, I'm gonna do better than everyone, and in five or ten years I'm gonna raise up and become a manager, or past that, and you're so confident in your own abilities to the point where it starts becoming prideful, right?
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_02: Um, then yes, obviously that's um you're kind of messing up there.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_02: But I don't think um, now you may not find a scripture that directly says this, but I don't think that God wants us to be doubting ourselves and everything I do.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_02: Like it's like we've I've Pastor Jared has spoken this exactly, actually, that that what I just gave, the prideful example, is one end of the scale, and the other end of the scale is being so afraid of being prideful that you start doubting every single thing that you can do.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_02: That's the opposite end of the scale, and you don't want to be there either.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because you shouldn't be like you should be living in doubt.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you shouldn't be.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_02: I don't want to be prideful, so I'm just gonna think I'm trash at everything.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_02: You're missing the mark there, too.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_02: I I don't think there's anything wrong with you know you've worked hard for this.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_02: Um you're diligent, you do your work, you do a good job, you have a good track record.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_02: There's there's nothing wrong with being like, yeah, I'm a hard worker, and I feel like I can do that.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_02: Biblically, I I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: There's even Philippians 4 13, I can do all things through Christ district with me.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_02: You wake up and you're like, I can do everything.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, you just I don't even have to say all that, bro.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_02: Why didn't you say that in the beginning?
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_03: Well, because I'm not sure.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna ask you a question, but I'm gonna tell you the answer.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_01: I just think it's for it.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_01: It's such a worthy discussion because you know, this this set of scriptures in James, it makes us think like, man, like wow, like I understand you know you shouldn't approach it from this way, but should I even you know push that hard for goals or for things in the future?
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_01: And you know, the Bible it didn't contradict itself, but it it it basically shows you you need to have a balance in that.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_01: You know, you can go for these great things, but it needs to be with God.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_01: It needs to be in his plan.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_01: It can't just be, oh, this is what I'm gonna do.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_01: This is what my life is gonna look like.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_00: I know, and I think like I agree with, you know, your um answer to the question, Hudson, about how you look at it or whatever.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_00: But like I think another like specific example that's actually happening in my life that I caught myself doing like a while back was like me and Griffin.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, so Griffin's my boyfriend, for those of you who don't know.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: Anyway, but like me and Griffin, you know, we plan to get married one day, as like any couple, like Christian couple who's been, you know, dating for like over a year would.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_00: And, you know, we would ask ourselves, like, okay, like where do we think we would like end up living or going to church or doing this or doing that?
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_00: But then like we kind of caught ourselves not even thinking about the fact that we need to pray about it first.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_00: You know, it's so easy to think, okay, well, where could, you know, the breadwinner get the most money?
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_00: Like, where is the best opportunity for working?
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_00: Because that's your future.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's like you think of that, but it's also like you forget, what do we like?
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_00: We have to pray about it too.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_00: Like, there's more to it than just okay, where are we gonna make the most money?
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_00: Where is it gonna be the easiest?
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_00: Like you have to go down to the actual, like, yeah, I want to make plans for the future, but yeah, I want God to be the center of it.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_02: I want him to be the decision maker for us.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and and like God created all of us, and so he's not gonna be like, Yeah, just just don't think about the future at all.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_02: Ever.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_02: Like that's that's not how we're made.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_02: Like, like you said, um, you're getting married.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_02: It's literally the human experience to be like, okay, what's next?
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_02: What's my next season?
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_02: Um where are we gonna move?
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, what where are we gonna live?
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_02: All this stuff.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: Um that's that's normal.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_02: That's literally just your life.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_02: So God isn't saying, you know, don't ever plan for anything.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, just trust in me for everything.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_02: Yes, we should trust in him for everything, but not not in that uh context.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_02: Um, because again, the verse you just uh brought up Philippians 4 13.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_02: I killed it.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_03: Philippians 4 13.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_02: I can do all the verse in the Bible through Christ, you strengthen me.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_02: Sorry, I'm LARPing, but yeah, so that's obviously you're declaring that by faith.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, there's a very big difference between you planning your future um and putting all of your your belief in your planning and what you think is gonna happen without considering God in it at all, right?
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_02: And then planning for the future, um, but trusting in God enough to be like, if if God wants this to change, you change it.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_02: Um and then the whole opposite end of the spectrum is never planning at all because you're like, oh, God's just gonna direct my every single step and I don't have to do anything.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_02: You're you're also kind of right, you're kind of missing the mark I feel because God wants you to be proactive.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_02: He He wants you to to look ahead and see things that are coming and prepare for them and and try to, you know, of your own volition, walk towards where He's he's leading you to the best of your ability.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_02: If you're just sitting back and not doing anything.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: Anything and just like, oh, I'm never gonna plan because that's evil and God doesn't want me to plan.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_02: Like He gave you a mind.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, God wants us to live a fulfilling life.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_00: You can't do that without planning anything in your life.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_00: Like just waking up, like, okay, so let's get married today, and like maybe by the end of the day, God will have a house ready for us.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_02: I'm actually gonna like God's gonna give me our wedding date in a dream.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_02: So yeah, you have to plan.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_00: But just make sure that God it's in those plans.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_02: Would you be mad at Griffin if y'all dated for five years and he never reposed and you eventually asked him why?
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_02: And he was like, Oh, I was waiting for God to tell me when in a dream.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, probably so.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_01: I think that's such a like a this type of discussion is very valid because some people are like in some instances, I feel like we could feel that oh, we have to wait for God to give me an answer for something.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_01: I feel like there's many things, like this may be a little controversial, but I feel like there are some things in life that God just like you know, make the decision in wisdom.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_01: You know, like you can pray about it, but you may not get the answer.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_01: He may not answer you on the situation.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_01: You may just have to take it and and really do it yourself with the wisdom that he's given you.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, it may come as a shocker, but you're not gonna get a direct answer for God for every decision on the life.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_02: That's why you have the Bible.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you see a decision coming from like a year in advance, right?
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: And you pray about it up to that.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_02: God's probably gonna give you some guidance, but I mean it's a decision that you have to make in like 30 seconds.
- 1:07:30unknown: Yeah.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like where am I gonna step next?
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_02: Which path am I gonna take?
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're probably not gonna get like a direct answer from God in those 30 seconds.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_00: You just need to make an educated spiritual guess.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_02: And that's why wisdom is such a like there's literally an entire book of the Bible written about wisdom.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_02: Because God wants us to have that wisdom so we can make those decisions.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, that's our two cents, four cents, six cents.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_02: Because there's three.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_00: Two, four, six.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, so wait, that covers 13, 14, 15, and 16.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_00: Um, so all that's left is 17, which is remember, it is a sin to oh, I love this verse.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_03: Favorite verse.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_00: Remember, it is a sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_00: Wait, and yeah, and then not do it.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_00: This is like strangely one of my favorite verses to quote.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know why, but I think about it like all the time.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_00: Like sometimes when I'm trying to make a decision, a decision that I'm like iffy about, I don't, and like I don't even necessarily think it'd be a sin, but it also doesn't glorify God.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_00: Like I just think about this.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_00: I'm like, is this decision that I'm about to make?
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_00: Whether it's something like it could even be going to like a concert, something like that.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_00: Like, do I think that going to like I don't mean who's like a me?
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_00: Like, I can't think of an artist that's like, you know, not bad.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_00: I I can't even think of an example, but like think of an artist that like, you know, is it bad, but is it glorifying God?
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_00: You know, it's not like they're gonna go curse and say all this crazy stuff at their concert, but is it better to go or is it better to be safe and just not go?
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_00: And it's like you just have to I have to think back to this verse, and I'm like, okay, you know, I know like it's not that I shouldn't do this, but I know what I should do, and this isn't necessarily it.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_00: So let me make my best, like I said, educated spiritual guess, and let me just not do it.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, definitely uh like you said, I definitely do feel like it is highlighting like a choice like that, a specific choice where you know it may not be heaven or hell, if you want to put it like that, but is this wise?
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_02: We've talked about that before.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, I definitely feel like it hits on that.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_02: Um you should be taking that decision with is this wise will this you know pull me away from God or is this gonna bring me closer?
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_00: Because like it literally says it like it is a sin to know what you do, you you should do and not do it.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_00: Like I have the capability to make it a sin because I knew what I should do and I didn't do it.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that is definitely true.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_02: And I also um I like the the kind of contrast that the ending of this verse has from literally everything we just talked about in the second half of it, because this entire half has been, you know, don't judge or and criticize people, it's telling you what not to do.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_02: Don't judge because you're putting yourself up on a pedestal where God, where only God is, and you know that's a sin.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_02: And then in 13 through 16, he's like, Don't plan from the future without God, don't become prideful like that.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_02: Don't boast about your own plans and put yourself over God and act like you know it all.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_02: He's talking about all these things you shouldn't do, and at the end he just kind of throws it in.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_02: Remember, it is a sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_02: And I think that's really powerful because it is, and I could say this because I've been here, it is very easy to treat Christianity and my relationship with God and how good how good and quote using quotation marks around good, how good I am at being a Christian with staying away from the bad.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_02: Um, I can view it completely like that, like, oh I'm not I'm not sinning, or yeah, I'm sinning, but I can use all these metrics.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm not lying, I stopped that, I stopped listening to that music, I stopped uh watching that stuff, I stopped saying that stuff, I stopped thinking, I started thinking those things, I stopped hanging out with those people, and I can weigh my spiritual success with all the things I'm not doing because I know they're wrong.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and if I only focus on that, then it's again hitting on the same thing that we've hit it that we've been hitting on for like the past month or two in James that's right, I'm dealing with the symptoms.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to weigh my success based on uh things that I know I shouldn't be doing when the whole time it's been in the heart.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_02: Um, my success as a Christian is not all the sins I'm not doing.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_02: Yes, I shouldn't be doing them, obviously.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_02: I don't even need to say that.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_02: But it's am I doing the things that are right?
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_02: Am I helping that person when they need help?
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_02: Am I giving this Bible study?
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_02: Am I those are just specific, but am I being active in the body?
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_02: Am I praying?
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_02: Am I constantly pursuing a relationship with God?
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_02: Am I in the word daily?
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_02: Am I getting that in my heart?
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_02: Am I showing spiritual fruits?
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_02: That is just as important as all the things you shouldn't be doing.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_02: And James is throwing, I feel like he's throwing this in at the end of the verse as a reminder because the whole pretty much the whole verse has been, or at least definitely this half of it, yeah, has been things you shouldn't do.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_02: Very much so, because we shouldn't be doing those things.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_02: But it's also a reminder that don't get so caught up in fighting the things you shouldn't do.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_02: Um if you struggle with a specific sin and all of your efforts and energy goes into directly combating that sin, and you start kind of ignoring your relationship with with God in a way, maybe not intentionally, but you start ignoring other aspects of your wall because you're so focused on just fighting the sin, then you're you're probably gonna start drifting away from just God's not fighting it with you.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_02: Because if you would just focus on getting closer to God, then naturally would then that sin would probably start going away.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_02: And and now now again disclaimer, I'm not saying don't resist sin, bro.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, don't don't put words in my mouth.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying um, but it it's just the the distinction that you can't only focus on the things you shouldn't be doing because that's not what God's calling you to do.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_02: You you're called to follow him, you're called to to pray, to read daily, to be active in the body.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_02: Not a Christian's job is not just to not do sin.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_02: And not do sin.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_02: That's the end of it.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_01: And I really like this verse for that.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but also you can take it as as deep or as lightly as you want to take it, because I can't I can't I could exactly think of this verse whenever I'm thinking about just like a normal decision throughout the day.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_01: And and maybe it's a decision that I was delaying and not intentionally, not me thinking, oh I didn't I didn't delay this.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_01: This is just like, you know, I'm waiting on God.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_01: Well, what if it's one of those things that you have to kind of ask your question to yourself with this verse?
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_01: Is like, is it still in my mind?
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_01: Is it still a decision in my mind because it's something that I deep down inside really want, but I'm just kind of ignoring that until I get what I want?
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_01: Does that make any sense?
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, so you see what I'm saying?
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_01: It's like you delay the decision because you know you really know what you ought to do.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_01: You know what you know you it really should be, you know what the answer is, but you delay it or you you don't take that that response and that real answer right now because well what yeah, what if that happened to me like two weeks ago?
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_00: I had that exact like type of thing.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_00: Like I was like, okay, that's what I it happens often to me.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I'm like, well, I want this, I kind of want this.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_00: And then you finally think you made up your mind, and then like the next day you're like, wait, but maybe it wouldn't be that bad if I did it.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't think it's a sin, like I wouldn't be messed up.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_01: It can be in the small things.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um no, I I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_00: I've been there a thousand times.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just think back.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_01: What what should I all what do I ought to do?
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_00: I think also a good idea is like something I have to do because I know I'm a very um what's the word?
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_00: Like, not like my final decisions aren't final decisions.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_00: That's the final decision for the next 30 minutes, and then it'll change in 30.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_00: Like, once I make the decision that I know I should make, I tell somebody that that's my decision so that I can't go back on it.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_00: Like, I was talking to my mom about something, whatever the situation was like two weeks ago, and I knew that the thing would be like that I shouldn't do it or I shouldn't go or whatever it was.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_00: And I told my mom the second I got inside, I was like, okay, mom, I've decided I'm not gonna do it.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_00: And she was like, That's a good choice, Audrey.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_00: I'm proud of you.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_00: And so now I can't go back on it.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_00: The next day I woke up and I was like, Oh, maybe I should do it.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_00: Like maybe it wouldn't be that bad.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_00: But I told my mom and I was like, What do you think?
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_00: And she was like, I think you already made the right decision, don't go back on it.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_00: I was like, Okay, you're right.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_00: And so it's like tell somebody to hold you accountable in those situations when you know what you should do.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_02: Good strategy.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_02: Very good strategy.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_02: Especially if you're just indecisive.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_02: Loving Christian parents, you know.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_00: Or friends, or family.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_02: Well, that is family, brothers in Christ.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_02: Well, I was just I was just Sisters in Christ for me.
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, I was throwing a ball to the parents.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_02: I was trying to get the kids on their side.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_00: Listen to your parents' kids.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_02: Listen to your parents' kids.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_02: Don't do sin kids.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_00: That'll be your title.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_00: Don't do sin kids.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_02: If you take away one thing, take away that.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_02: Don't do sin.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_00: Well, that's verse 17 for you guys.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_00: Um I think that we've about summed up the oh wait, no, we haven't.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, we actually have to literally do the sum.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_00: Murray.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so um, I say this every time, but very good discussion.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_02: I feel we talked about a lot.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_02: I feel like we um very good question, Luke.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_02: I want to shop that out.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_02: That was a really good question.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_02: We had a good talk about that question.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_02: Ask more questions like that.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_02: Um we need more from you.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_02: You're the question guy.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, questions.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_02: There's a question factory.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_02: Keep producing them.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_02: That was good.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_02: Sure, sure.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_02: The question factory.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_02: But uh, but yeah, if you wanted to ignore everything else we said and you wanted to take one thing from the message portion of this, I'd say that don't analyze your role in your current season as how cool you think it is, how um important you think it is, how uh like how much light is on the position on the position.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_02: It's not about any of that.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_02: It's am I doing my role faithfully?
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_02: And that's all God really cares about at the end of the day.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_02: Um, it's not I'm not a pastor, so I'm not important.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_02: It's not I'm not a on the stage singing on Sunday, so I'm not as important.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_02: It's not about any of that.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_02: And you shouldn't be worrying about that.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_02: Um, because God, as a believer, he's not or as a person, he's not gonna see someone on the the greeting team as less important than the pastor.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_02: No, um, no part of the body is as important as another part because they all work together and they all need each other.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_02: Um, so don't analyze it like that, just focus on doing your role faithfully, even if that is just making the coffee on Sunday.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_02: Um, that role is important, and you are serving the kingdom even if that's all you're doing.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_02: And then um for James, just you know, don't plan your future.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_02: Just kidding, guys.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_02: Bye guys.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_02: If you weren't LARPing the whole time, you know that that's not what we said.
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_00: Wait, what does LARPing mean?
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_02: I don't uh I don't know either.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_00: Is it being lazy?
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_02: No, it's basically just you're a fake fan.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_02: That's the easiest way I can explain it without going into the definition.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_02: But um you think you know what you're talking about, but you don't, basically.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_02: Um but anyway, if you weren't paying attention, um, that's not what we said.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_02: We said yes, prepare, plan, but God should be at the head of that.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_02: Um that's obvious.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, I just say that I kind of kinda again analyze yourself and see if there's any areas in your life that that you may have taken responsibility in an area that the responsibility belongs to God.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_02: Because if you look at, and we've talked about this, the passages that we've read today in James, it's kind of all about responsibility.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_02: Um, judging people if if you're if you're doing that, and I'm not saying just looking at judging people, but judging people is what is you what James uses because if you do that, that's God's responsibility.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_02: And if you start doing that, you're kind of taking away that.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_02: So analyze in your heart, because I've been there.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_02: Um it's it's kind of hard to do because it makes you feel pretty stinky.
- 1:19:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but um it's hard to do, but but just analyze.
- 1:19:56SPEAKER_02: Um am I trying to judge someone's heart when that's God's job?
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_02: Am I trying to control all the things in my life and tomorrow when I can't do that?
- 1:20:05SPEAKER_02: That's that's that's God's job.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_02: Or like Luke was saying, is there something that I already know deep down that God wants me to do that I've been putting off because I don't think it's right?
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_02: Just something like that.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_02: Just just just pray.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_02: Be susceptible to what's going on through to your to God's responsibility and your responsibility and read along, James.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_02: That's what I'll leave you with.
- 1:20:27SPEAKER_02: Because James is very good if you didn't pick up on that already.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_00: Well, um, that was the summary by Hudson Walton.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_00: We hope you guys we hope you guys enjoyed this episode.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_00: We enjoyed talking about it, and we hope that you tune in next Thursday for the next episode.
- 1:20:45SPEAKER_00: Bye.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_01: Bye guys, goodbye.
