- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to Artists on Artists on Artists on Christmas.
- 0:09Speaker 2: That's right.
- 0:09Speaker 1: This week we have a very special reunion panel of
- 0:13Speaker 1: a Christmas movie you know and love.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Arthur Rankin Junior and Jules Bass created some of the
- 0:20Speaker 3: most beloved Christmas films of all time, including Rudolph the
- 0:23Speaker 3: Red Nose Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, and
- 0:27Speaker 3: nineteen seventy three's The Christmas Crab.
- 0:30Speaker 4: And nothing captures the childhood imagination quite like Claymation. And
- 0:35Speaker 4: we gathered some of the people that help bring Christmas
- 0:38Speaker 4: Crab to life. So let's get ho ho ho, and
- 0:42Speaker 4: let's go happy Holidays.
- 0:49Speaker 2: My name is a Betty da Boop, and I played
- 0:54Speaker 2: Donnie that Christmas Crab.
- 0:57Speaker 5: I tell you man, it's great to see you here.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Betty's great to see here. Betty, great to see everyone here.
- 1:05Speaker 5: My name is George philbo and I was the head
- 1:11Speaker 5: stop motion animator on The Christmas Crab, also a screenwriter,
- 1:15Speaker 5: and I helped write the film.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Good to talk y'all, uh, it is I good to
- 1:21Speaker 4: see you all the back here. It is a Heinz Klein.
- 1:25Speaker 4: I was the lead claimation artist on Is It Christmas.
- 1:30Speaker 5: Crab, Christmas crab. We're talking about the Christmas crab today?
- 1:34Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that is what I said.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's what I heard.
- 1:43Speaker 6: Yeah, so I thought you were asking me a question.
- 1:48Speaker 7: Hi.
- 1:48Speaker 8: I'm Paul Tayfer. I did it.
- 1:53Speaker 6: Was the lead audio engineer for a Christmas Crap.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And let's just say right off the bat, this was
- 2:03Speaker 2: quite the film, and I think it really I'm so
- 2:07Speaker 2: happy to see that we all dressed up for Christmas.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Just a bunch of Christmas heads in this house.
- 2:14Speaker 5: If you can't see it, because I know this is
- 2:16Speaker 5: an audio medium, which I think we're all used to that. Betty.
- 2:24Speaker 5: I always loved Betty's laugh. I've always loved it. I've
- 2:28Speaker 5: always we're wearing a bunch of outfitts to celebrate the holiday.
- 2:32Speaker 5: I remember when I was working for Ardie and Jewels
- 2:36Speaker 5: ranking in Bass. I remember we used to always wear
- 2:39Speaker 5: Christmas outfits all year round.
- 2:41Speaker 2: It was mandatory.
- 2:43Speaker 5: It was mandatory. Yeah.
- 2:45Speaker 6: Yeah, there's nothing I love more than Christmas fall.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I've got to say, I've been holding onto this since
- 2:54Speaker 2: nineteen seventy three. I don't know if I believe you.
- 2:59Speaker 6: No, I love Christmas so much. What I don't love
- 3:04Speaker 6: is working.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Paul's always been a bit of a naughty elf.
- 3:10Speaker 8: I'm a naughty elf. How long will we be here?
- 3:15Speaker 4: Paul, You're hilarious, very funny, You're very funny. Yeah. I
- 3:21Speaker 4: love Christmas in Austria. We have very good, good Christmas
- 3:24Speaker 4: every year, and that's why I go back every once
- 3:28Speaker 4: in a while to.
- 3:32Speaker 5: Paul's smoking in here. I didn't know we could smoke
- 3:35Speaker 5: in here.
- 3:36Speaker 6: I'm sorry, guys. Ever since the seventies, I can't stop.
- 3:40Speaker 6: Can't stop with a cinnamon stick.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Fow fifty years fifty is a smoking wow.
- 3:46Speaker 5: That sounds pretty on bar for most hardcore smokers.
- 3:48Speaker 4: So yeah, let's talk. Let us talk about the Christmas Crab. Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 4: I love the Christmas Crab. But for me, it was
- 3:54Speaker 4: one of my first films to head as acclamation. I
- 3:58Speaker 4: was in charge of designing and helping move aose pieces
- 4:04Speaker 4: back in force and over and over again to develop
- 4:08Speaker 4: the Christmas Crab story. My name is Heines Klein Heines.
- 4:14Speaker 5: It's so funny to see Heines again because we came
- 4:16Speaker 5: up with this idea together. Yeah, yeah, I wrote the script.
- 4:21Speaker 5: I had a funny little run in with this nasty
- 4:24Speaker 5: crab on the beach and I was there with my
- 4:28Speaker 5: girlfriend at the time, and we had a whole situation.
- 4:31Speaker 5: I was wearing my sweater because I was coming from work,
- 4:33Speaker 5: and the girl was.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Down in Venice before Venice was Venice.
- 4:36Speaker 5: You know. I was down in Venice before they took
- 4:38Speaker 5: it over. Yeah, yeah, before they took me.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Who took it over?
- 4:43Speaker 5: You know, the ones who ruined it. I was down
- 4:46Speaker 5: in Venice and the crab got into my sweatshirt. And
- 4:49Speaker 5: I remember I came back from swimming in the ocean
- 4:52Speaker 5: and I went to go put on the sweater and
- 4:54Speaker 5: there was a crab in there. And I went to
- 4:57Speaker 5: class and I said, hey, class, we got we got
- 5:00Speaker 5: to try this.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember because I was on the beach too.
- 5:03Speaker 4: It was a lovely family holiday. We went down to
- 5:07Speaker 4: the beach with you and your your wife at the
- 5:09Speaker 4: time at the time. Yeah, And I saw it as
- 5:13Speaker 4: a crab, and you'll freak out. You go like, oh,
- 5:16Speaker 4: it's a crab inside, you know. So then then you go,
- 5:20Speaker 4: we have to turn this into.
- 5:21Speaker 5: A movie, and let's do a little plot real quick.
- 5:24Speaker 5: Maybe better you can talk.
- 5:27Speaker 2: What a gift that I am so glad that you've
- 5:31Speaker 2: got attacked by that little Crab that faithful day. Because
- 5:35Speaker 2: this was such a gift Betty doo boop that's my name,
- 5:41Speaker 2: dobit bear it out. And it was such a gift
- 5:46Speaker 2: to a voiceover actor like myself because I had been
- 5:50Speaker 2: auditioning for they were putting across my desk, so to speak,
- 5:55Speaker 2: uh breakdowns for Sexy Lady Cartoon is Sexy Dame cartoon
- 6:02Speaker 2: and Sexy broad Cartoon, and I just didn't have the
- 6:06Speaker 2: voice for it. I didn't have the voice for it.
- 6:08Speaker 2: But when my agent sent me a Christmas Crab, he said, Dottie,
- 6:14Speaker 2: this is your last shot. If you don't book this,
- 6:17Speaker 2: I'm dropping you.
- 6:19Speaker 8: You sound like a Christmas crab when you talk.
- 6:22Speaker 2: And boy, oh boy, I don't think I could play
- 6:25Speaker 2: anything else. And it turns out I didn't.
- 6:29Speaker 4: When you came in and read for the Christmas Crab,
- 6:32Speaker 4: I saw it like, oh, Jesu is a crab, you know,
- 6:36Speaker 4: like Zes is a crab. Like we found it, you know.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm so glad that I'm glad that you had
- 6:42Speaker 2: that inspiration. Well, I mean, of course, and of course
- 6:45Speaker 2: a Christmas Crab is the story to go over the
- 6:47Speaker 2: plot of a little crab who'll gets stuck in Santa
- 6:52Speaker 2: Claus's little.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Coat, and he travels around the world delivering presents.
- 7:00Speaker 5: He's can't tanker as well.
- 7:02Speaker 2: And the crab is also there.
- 7:05Speaker 8: That crab, you guys, that's.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Why it's called the Christmas Crash because Christmas the Crab
- 7:13Speaker 2: was along the ride for the journey.
- 7:15Speaker 5: Yeahs. He learns a little bit about the meaning of Christmas.
- 7:21Speaker 9: And I remember, do you remember that line where you
- 7:24Speaker 9: talked about Santa Claus and then the you did the clause?
- 7:29Speaker 5: Can you do that line?
- 7:30Speaker 4: Oh?
- 7:30Speaker 2: I remember that line? It was a song.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Oh would you mind singing it?
- 7:34Speaker 2: Of course? It was your sata And I'm the class.
- 7:43Speaker 8: Can I say when we.
- 7:44Speaker 6: First had Betty come in to get her levels, when
- 7:47Speaker 6: we started laying down the because.
- 7:49Speaker 4: You have adjusted the audio engineer, Yeah.
- 7:54Speaker 2: When it's great to have you here.
- 7:57Speaker 4: I'm sure one of many, because use a lot.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Really great to see you ball well, you're the last
- 8:08Speaker 2: surviving audio and yeah this movie.
- 8:11Speaker 8: Yeah no, when Betty came into the uh.
- 8:14Speaker 6: When Betty came into the studio, I looked at my
- 8:17Speaker 6: associate at the time, Junior, and I said, buckle up,
- 8:20Speaker 6: we got a new kid in town.
- 8:22Speaker 8: I said this is this kid seems green.
- 8:25Speaker 2: In my uh voice? Don't take that gentle razsing. I'll
- 8:30Speaker 2: take that gentle razzing because I love a ras. Where
- 8:37Speaker 2: was I going.
- 8:38Speaker 8: With this when I'm saying that you?
- 8:40Speaker 10: Oh?
- 8:40Speaker 4: Yes?
- 8:41Speaker 2: In my voiceover classes because I took some voiceover classes
- 8:45Speaker 2: in preparation for this. They used to call me Peaky
- 8:47Speaker 2: the boop because all my audio levels were peaking all
- 8:51Speaker 2: day long. And so I'm sure it was a nightmare
- 8:53Speaker 2: for you.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Oh but we got We.
- 8:55Speaker 6: Worked really well together, Betty, and uh.
- 8:59Speaker 4: We got it in and out, which is the opposite
- 9:02Speaker 4: of buildings acclamation, you know, because the voiceover you'll do
- 9:06Speaker 4: it right at the end. You know, everything's built. A
- 9:09Speaker 4: lot of the time you do a temp one, you know,
- 9:11Speaker 4: you do the temp audio and send vons. It's done
- 9:14Speaker 4: and it's polished, you go back and do the Yeah.
- 9:16Speaker 5: Betty, how long, just so let's compare the processes. How
- 9:20Speaker 5: long did you do you remember recording the voiceover for
- 9:24Speaker 5: the Christmas crap?
- 9:25Speaker 2: Oh? I think it took about two three hours, so
- 9:29Speaker 2: a long, long, long, long time.
- 9:32Speaker 5: And Klaus, do you remember how long it took to
- 9:34Speaker 5: make the claimations in?
- 9:35Speaker 4: It was about fifteen years yes, that's correct. Fifteen years.
- 9:38Speaker 8: What about me the audio engineer, You should answer that.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Ask the question.
- 9:46Speaker 8: I want you to care studio.
- 9:49Speaker 2: For about two to three hours, so I'm guessing you,
- 9:52Speaker 2: Oh there were multiple characters, yes, okay, and two weeks
- 9:57Speaker 2: six hours.
- 9:58Speaker 5: Okay, so twice the amount of time. Maybe just listening
- 10:02Speaker 5: back just so.
- 10:04Speaker 2: You didn't really adjust at all.
- 10:07Speaker 9: Okay, but engineer, much so we that that fateful picnic
- 10:12Speaker 9: on the beach actually ended up happening in nineteen fifty eight.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Yeah, because Zen, you went to walls, you went to Korea.
- 10:20Speaker 5: I went to Korea, and I was in Korea, and
- 10:23Speaker 5: I swear to God, the only thing keeping me alive
- 10:27Speaker 5: was coming home to seeing the progress of Christmas crap.
- 10:32Speaker 5: I was thinking about it. I should show you my
- 10:35Speaker 5: diaries from that time. They are so vivid, and I
- 10:39Speaker 5: remember I was gone for three years. I went a
- 10:43Speaker 5: wall and I went missing, and I was a pow
- 10:44Speaker 5: and whatever. This isn't why we're here. We don't have
- 10:47Speaker 5: to talk.
- 10:47Speaker 2: About that, but i'd rather you didn't.
- 10:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I know I know that you you don't believe me.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I don't believe you.
- 10:55Speaker 5: I don't want to bring that up.
- 10:56Speaker 3: This is good.
- 10:57Speaker 5: It's nice seeing you for the first time in forty years.
- 10:59Speaker 2: But and I and it would be nicer if you
- 11:02Speaker 2: didn't bring up your bogus pow story.
- 11:05Speaker 5: I don't know why you don't believe me about math.
- 11:08Speaker 2: It doesn't add up. I've read about the Korean War
- 11:12Speaker 2: and the facilities that they put those soldiers in the
- 11:16Speaker 2: and the walls you're describing, they aren't the color.
- 11:20Speaker 5: It's so hard to hear the color. It's so hard
- 11:22Speaker 5: to hear the Christmas crab herself be so mean to
- 11:26Speaker 5: me about my journey.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Really, when you adduct up your work itself sort of
- 11:30Speaker 2: coming back to bite you a real art attacking the artist.
- 11:34Speaker 4: It must be pretty much like a cop, you know.
- 11:38Speaker 5: But I was gone for three years. I came back.
- 11:40Speaker 5: You had the first four and a half minutes ready,
- 11:43Speaker 5: and I remember seeing it and I remember being blown away. Yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 5: you are such a workhorse.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Thank you y'all. Every day for about twelve to fifteen hours,
- 11:53Speaker 4: you know, I'm just sitting there in my little garage
- 11:56Speaker 4: and I am just just a little bit and just
- 12:00Speaker 4: oop and then I take a picture and then just
- 12:03Speaker 4: move a little bit in yards and I go, I'll
- 12:06Speaker 4: pinch a crab. Time to pinch, and I pinch and
- 12:09Speaker 4: then you know you've got to build it so slowly
- 12:12Speaker 4: because our script was what you know, fifteen sixteen pages
- 12:16Speaker 4: that each page takes about a year.
- 12:19Speaker 2: And let me ask you something, hinz did you go insane?
- 12:23Speaker 4: Oh yeah, seven speriods when I went absolutely insane. You know,
- 12:27Speaker 4: when you're making a movie and not really getting paid
- 12:30Speaker 4: for fifteen years, that'll make you go insane.
- 12:33Speaker 5: Right because you get paid on the product.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Paid on the product once it's delivered from per minute.
- 12:39Speaker 5: Yeah, per minute.
- 12:41Speaker 4: So yeah, there was a couple of years when I
- 12:42Speaker 4: went insane. I would say fifty five to fifty seven.
- 12:46Speaker 4: I was insane. I was insanity. I was very happy
- 12:50Speaker 4: that not all of you saw me, because you saw
- 12:53Speaker 4: me when I was in sane just one time, you know.
- 12:56Speaker 5: I saw you one time. I'll never forget it.
- 12:58Speaker 4: I have really long hair. Was screaming, screaming, screaming.
- 13:01Speaker 9: Like god, go you got And what was crazy is
- 13:06Speaker 9: you were screaming at the figures.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I was going go faster, you need to move
- 13:10Speaker 4: faster home screaming and German. Yeah, so so yeah, very
- 13:18Speaker 4: very stressful, but all in all, Christmas classic so I
- 13:22Speaker 4: was very happy.
- 13:24Speaker 5: Yeah, and ranking a bass. Were they jumping around different projects?
- 13:28Speaker 5: Because for me, you know, I was the head of
- 13:30Speaker 5: Christmas Crab and so I didn't have to worry about that.
- 13:33Speaker 4: No, Yeah, I was working on three or four other
- 13:35Speaker 4: projects at the same time, you know, So I would
- 13:37Speaker 4: move the crab, take a picture, moves the Goat for
- 13:41Speaker 4: Goat Revenge, take a picture, go all the you know,
- 13:44Speaker 4: moves revenge Paul.
- 13:46Speaker 6: Yeah, for an hour or two, that was the whole thing.
- 13:50Speaker 8: Yeah, Yeah, you brought me in for the Goat eighty R.
- 13:56Speaker 8: I think we have a clip with that of Goat Revenge.
- 13:59Speaker 8: H it.
- 14:02Speaker 5: This Goat Here's causing album and that's the you worked on.
- 14:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I got in at about three pm, was out
- 14:13Speaker 6: by five.
- 14:14Speaker 5: Goat a d R. I wanted to ask you about that.
- 14:16Speaker 5: So did the Goat loop over itself? You don't have
- 14:21Speaker 5: to do it and the previously done.
- 14:23Speaker 8: So it was early in my career.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Brought the Goat into the studio and you said, do
- 14:31Speaker 2: what you did in the ko and was he good
- 14:38Speaker 2: at it?
- 14:41Speaker 6: Well we did back then was we had the Goat
- 14:44Speaker 6: in studio and what we didn't.
- 14:48Speaker 8: Realize was it was hard to get a goat in
- 14:49Speaker 8: the studio. So the goat was just going rancid.
- 14:56Speaker 4: It was it was going off, So it was stinky,
- 15:00Speaker 4: workable conditions.
- 15:04Speaker 8: When we first brought the coat in sweat, so me
- 15:10Speaker 8: and me and my colleague we looked at each other
- 15:15Speaker 8: and we said, I said, Junior, let's just roll. And
- 15:17Speaker 8: we rolled. And then at some point we got to
- 15:20Speaker 8: ransom to see.
- 15:22Speaker 6: And we had to get him out of there. And
- 15:24Speaker 6: then a week later we realized we.
- 15:26Speaker 8: Didn't get sufficient stuff.
- 15:27Speaker 6: We had to bring him in to loop on top
- 15:29Speaker 6: of what he missed during the ransod time, brought him back.
- 15:34Speaker 6: We brought him back in and we left him in
- 15:37Speaker 6: the parking lot, brought a mic out at the time,
- 15:41Speaker 6: Mike's were this.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Big the audio listeners.
- 15:46Speaker 6: For the audio listeners, I hold my hand like a
- 15:49Speaker 6: like I'd say, like a snow globe.
- 15:52Speaker 2: So that's a snow globe, like.
- 15:56Speaker 8: A swollen snow. I would say, after my wife's zanya, what.
- 16:04Speaker 5: A snow glve after the snow gve eight your wife's lasagna.
- 16:09Speaker 2: This is not helpful to the listeners. As a voice
- 16:12Speaker 2: of the actor, I will say the most important part
- 16:16Speaker 2: of your job is communicating something to the listener, Wow by,
- 16:21Speaker 2: and I don't think you're doing that.
- 16:24Speaker 8: You're right, and it's as an audio engineer. I'm a
- 16:27Speaker 8: visual guy.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Oh so you visualize the levels of the audio.
- 16:32Speaker 8: Yeah, I gotta see the levels. Oh I can't hear
- 16:35Speaker 8: for shit sometimes.
- 16:37Speaker 9: Speaking levels, Speaking of levels, I wanted to bring up
- 16:40Speaker 9: our one of our favorite performers in that special there
- 16:43Speaker 9: it is played Santa Claus.
- 16:46Speaker 5: H your scene partner, the incomparable Burl Ives Burl.
- 16:53Speaker 4: But's so good.
- 16:54Speaker 5: I mean, he is Mister Christmas to so many people.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Who's amazing to haven't involved in this project really put
- 17:01Speaker 5: for Burrow. Oh we missed Burrel every day. Do you
- 17:04Speaker 5: guys have any stories. There's a lot of barrel heads
- 17:05Speaker 5: out there. Any stories?
- 17:06Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I forgot to tell a couple of stories.
- 17:09Speaker 5: You know, remember him, keep them alive, him alive.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Oh well, well, I'll I could go first if you want. Well,
- 17:19Speaker 2: Burrel was my idol as a big Christmas head. I
- 17:24Speaker 2: of course became a big Burrel head because of the
- 17:27Speaker 2: amount of times he played Santa Claus. It touched my
- 17:31Speaker 2: heart and as a little girl, I would write letters
- 17:34Speaker 2: to Burrow instead of Santa Claus because in my mind
- 17:37Speaker 2: he was Santa, and I didn't get what I wanted
- 17:41Speaker 2: because I was sending them to a real man, and
- 17:43Speaker 2: so that broke me for a while. I was off
- 17:45Speaker 2: Christmas for the years. I don't know.
- 17:47Speaker 9: So you would write, you would write, dear Burrow, I'd
- 17:49Speaker 9: like a Barbie doll.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Yes, And then I found his real address and I
- 17:53Speaker 2: would send it to him. So my parents had no idea.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Santa Claus himself sure had no idea. And so well,
- 18:00Speaker 2: I didn't get what I wanted on Christmas morning, and
- 18:03Speaker 2: it broke my heart. And so I did confront him
- 18:06Speaker 2: when we when we.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Strategy was that when you were off, when I.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Was off, when I was off Christmas. Oh, I was
- 18:13Speaker 2: a kid. So that's got to be nineteen fifty and
- 18:18Speaker 2: nineteen fifty.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Four, actually, just about the time you were in his
- 18:23Speaker 4: a pow camp, right, No, No, you mean.
- 18:27Speaker 2: The time he was stealing valor.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Why did you bring that up?
- 18:32Speaker 4: I just meets a connection. I'm so sorry.
- 18:36Speaker 2: The architecture is inconsistent if you know anything about the
- 18:40Speaker 2: Korean War. What's weird to.
- 18:42Speaker 6: Be about the architecture, because I think it could be
- 18:45Speaker 6: about records.
- 18:47Speaker 5: Well, she's referring to these grainy photos that one of
- 18:50Speaker 5: the enemies got of me, and she focuses. I mean
- 18:54Speaker 5: they were my friends, they were I was a prisoner,
- 18:57Speaker 5: and she took photos, you know, it took rose and
- 19:00Speaker 5: they said this is is this your soldier? And they
- 19:02Speaker 5: sent it back to the you know, the army, and
- 19:06Speaker 5: they did come and get me eventually.
- 19:08Speaker 8: What can I say?
- 19:09Speaker 6: Yeah, if I was a soldier at war and I
- 19:13Speaker 6: looked down at my fellow soldier and he was doodling
- 19:17Speaker 6: about a Christmas crab, I would have thought you were
- 19:22Speaker 6: fucking nuts.
- 19:23Speaker 8: And look at what you've created.
- 19:25Speaker 5: All due respect Ball, you wouldn't be alive long enough
- 19:27Speaker 5: in a war to see anyone draw anything.
- 19:30Speaker 8: I think I could.
- 19:31Speaker 6: An audio engineer can survive war. I've survived so many
- 19:37Speaker 6: rancid vibes.
- 19:38Speaker 5: I haven't seen you survive missing lunch.
- 19:43Speaker 2: You know, this is really bringing me back because I
- 19:47Speaker 2: forgot how much tension there was.
- 19:50Speaker 5: And I'm trying to come back and we're talking Christmas.
- 19:53Speaker 5: And I didn't mean to bring this up, but the
- 19:55Speaker 5: Korean War thing was brought up hines.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Of feeling, and it brings me pleasure to call out
- 20:01Speaker 2: the elephant in the room, which is you making up
- 20:03Speaker 2: a fake story about being a pow. You don't have to,
- 20:07Speaker 2: And it gives me no pleasure to do that, because
- 20:10Speaker 2: what I want to do is talk about Christmas. And
- 20:12Speaker 2: what I want to do is talk about Burrell. We
- 20:15Speaker 2: gotta keep his burw We gotta keep his memory alive.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Do you have any memories?
- 20:20Speaker 5: But yeah, working with Burrow is really fun. I remember smell.
- 20:24Speaker 5: He always smelled like banana bread. And I remember on
- 20:28Speaker 5: the last day we got him a big loaf of
- 20:31Speaker 5: banana bread. He smell like it was really you know,
- 20:37Speaker 5: we got really close. We we spent a lot of
- 20:42Speaker 5: time at the Smokehouse over on uh Barhm Boulevard in Bank.
- 20:50Speaker 5: The Smokehouse, I had a couple.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Right we smoke.
- 20:54Speaker 6: I don't know what it is, but anybody who's worked
- 20:57Speaker 6: on Christmas crap loves the Smokehouse.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:00Speaker 5: We love sitting in there in that dingy old little
- 21:03Speaker 5: place and listening to the music and eating rolls, garlic rolls.
- 21:06Speaker 6: Shout out to Bethany Saunders, owner of the Smokehouse.
- 21:11Speaker 8: She hung a Christmas Crab poster that we all signed.
- 21:14Speaker 5: Yeah, we didn't think it's still in there.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Actually Lesbie.
- 21:17Speaker 8: It was an honor to sign as the audio.
- 21:19Speaker 5: Went in there for a lunch alon last week and
- 21:21Speaker 5: I saw it in there.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Bella is a great guy. You know. Me and my
- 21:25Speaker 4: wife actually did some you know it's sexually stuff. Was
- 21:28Speaker 4: him one time?
- 21:29Speaker 5: Oh okay, twenty.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Twenty twenty one, you did it this year? Yeah, right
- 21:43Speaker 4: before I passed, Right before I passed.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Glad he got one in before.
- 21:47Speaker 4: He went. Yeah, me and my wife, you know, if
- 21:50Speaker 4: it's struggling, well go what do we do? You know,
- 21:52Speaker 4: what are we going to do?
- 21:53Speaker 8: What are we going to do here?
- 21:54Speaker 4: What is fight? What do we come to do? And
- 21:57Speaker 4: Jim Burl comes and he goes, you know how he
- 22:00Speaker 4: talked like who can do his talk? Who can do
- 22:02Speaker 4: his talk?
- 22:03Speaker 5: He's the guy that thinks have a holy job.
- 22:05Speaker 4: That's what he sounds like. He's like, we slip together.
- 22:11Speaker 4: And I was like, Burlie, are you mad? You're mad?
- 22:15Speaker 4: But said my wife was like maybe, and then I thought,
- 22:18Speaker 4: you know, maybe it's twenty twenty one.
- 22:20Speaker 5: Let's try.
- 22:20Speaker 4: I don't want a good die. So we did very
- 22:24Speaker 4: recent well, you know, listen, I hate to tell you
- 22:27Speaker 4: bro broke past years and years ago.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I hate him what I think you were. You
- 22:34Speaker 2: were having relations with an impostor Burrow and it's happened before.
- 22:39Speaker 5: No, there's a fake Burl out there. I did want
- 22:42Speaker 5: to talk about this. I didn't want to.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Talk about impersonating Burrel. And you know what, I think
- 22:48Speaker 2: he was the one who was ignoring by Christmas letters.
- 22:51Speaker 4: So he's been impersonating him since the fifties.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I choose to believe that because this.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Man looked so much like Burl.
- 22:59Speaker 8: Kind of yeah, that doesn't that doesn't stop him. Yes,
- 23:02Speaker 8: the thing that doesn't stop.
- 23:03Speaker 5: We I mean, yeah, Paul knows this. We had some
- 23:06Speaker 5: security questions we'd ask Burl when he got in, but
- 23:09Speaker 5: only he would know what.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Did you ask?
- 23:11Speaker 8: You could grab the mic unless he passed the security tick.
- 23:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I can't say it because I know
- 23:15Speaker 5: fake Burl is listening.
- 23:16Speaker 11: But uh, you still say the questions was out answers, right, Well,
- 23:22Speaker 11: he's gonna look for him.
- 23:24Speaker 5: What I'll say is we asked him specific pet names.
- 23:27Speaker 5: We asked him specific uh girlfriends he had. We asked
- 23:32Speaker 5: him specific sizes of certain measurements of things on his body.
- 23:35Speaker 6: Things like that, if I could speak hand thinking his body,
- 23:39Speaker 6: Burrow Burrell had freckles at the tip of his dick.
- 23:44Speaker 6: And finally, I mean Christmas.
- 23:55Speaker 4: Hey everyone, We've got a live show, our first one
- 23:58Speaker 4: ever January eighth. That's Haaven thirty at the Beautiful Nay Type.
- 24:05Speaker 8: If you're not in LA, you can still get tickets
- 24:07Speaker 8: and watch it live.
- 24:08Speaker 6: Check it out a typewriter dot com dot com not
- 24:13Speaker 6: dot com, Lincoln Bill.
- 24:19Speaker 8: I don't care if the fake Burrel hears this.
- 24:21Speaker 6: No matter what, We'll always be able to live at
- 24:23Speaker 6: your dick, fake Burrel. And if you don't have any
- 24:26Speaker 6: freaking freckles, don't touch the mic.
- 24:29Speaker 2: So what I'd like to talk about is how much
- 24:34Speaker 2: this special touched families.
- 24:37Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I love. I still get the fund mail.
- 24:41Speaker 4: Every once in a while.
- 24:42Speaker 5: I'm getting stopped in the mall.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they never know until because I did the voice.
- 24:48Speaker 2: But sometimes if i'm if I'm ordering something at the bank,
- 24:52Speaker 2: like a check.
- 24:53Speaker 11: Of some sort food you have order, I get check,
- 25:00Speaker 11: I get four checks Please'm saying can I get four
- 25:03Speaker 11: checks please?
- 25:05Speaker 2: And can I get a deposit? And can I get
- 25:07Speaker 2: a oh, make it a withdrawal, And that's when they
- 25:12Speaker 2: know it's me.
- 25:13Speaker 5: You're looking at the bank in the back and.
- 25:17Speaker 2: This is what I like. It's in It's in burbank.
- 25:20Speaker 2: You will you've gotta Yes, it's the Bill Burr of
- 25:25Speaker 2: banks and the Bill Burr that's what they call it
- 25:30Speaker 2: because the tailers are always yelling.
- 25:32Speaker 5: So the.
- 25:35Speaker 4: Yes, I do, rip your pot, you know, try to
- 25:40Speaker 4: withdraw like I don't just have.
- 25:44Speaker 2: You should?
- 25:45Speaker 5: Wow.
- 25:46Speaker 2: I can't really do the voice because I can only
- 25:48Speaker 2: do this one hello, one trick pony much so I, uh, yeah,
- 25:53Speaker 2: withdrawal and say can I get a withdrawal? And they
- 25:56Speaker 2: know me there. If they're if they're a little older,
- 25:58Speaker 2: if they have kids, they'll be like are you are
- 26:00Speaker 2: you betty to bope and I'll say, oh yeah, guiltiest charge.
- 26:04Speaker 2: And it never gets old to sign one of those autographs.
- 26:07Speaker 2: People give me their wreaths to sign all the time.
- 26:12Speaker 8: Wow, that's crazy. Can I say when you I couldn't imagine.
- 26:16Speaker 6: Hearing your voice when you order like a coffee or
- 26:20Speaker 6: something or through a drive through.
- 26:22Speaker 8: Does that throw people off?
- 26:24Speaker 2: Yeah, less so than at the bank, less so than
- 26:27Speaker 2: at the bank. But when I'm depositing money at the
- 26:30Speaker 2: drive through and I'm withdrawing the food, uh, they don't
- 26:33Speaker 2: seem to catch on as much. I think it's a
- 26:36Speaker 2: younger crowd. You know, no good teenagers working for a
- 26:39Speaker 2: minimum wage, so they don't really know as much. But
- 26:43Speaker 2: does that ever happen to you? Do you guys ever
- 26:45Speaker 2: get recognized for working behind the scenes on a Christmas crowd?
- 26:49Speaker 4: Do people recognize me on the street. I'm very surprised
- 26:52Speaker 4: you said people recognize you for this.
- 26:54Speaker 8: We never gotten recognized.
- 26:56Speaker 5: I've done the conventions I've done. I used to go.
- 26:58Speaker 5: There's a lot of hold conventions. I've never heard of this.
- 27:02Speaker 5: Oh yeah, they're great.
- 27:03Speaker 2: They're always usually only heard San Diego.
- 27:06Speaker 9: Yeah, I go to San Diego. There's one in Christmas
- 27:09Speaker 9: con Saint Paul. Yeah, Christmas Cone, Marry Con. I do
- 27:15Speaker 9: Christmas conn is.
- 27:16Speaker 2: In the Virgin Mary or as in Mary Ry. Okay,
- 27:19Speaker 2: so Merry Christmas, Christmas.
- 27:21Speaker 5: Can Merry conn Bell Con. And uh, there's Saint Mary Con.
- 27:26Speaker 5: I don't go if you've gone.
- 27:27Speaker 8: To that one, Paul, I went with my ex wife.
- 27:30Speaker 9: Okay, yeah, I uh.
- 27:33Speaker 5: I love going to the conventions and talking. They're only
- 27:36Speaker 5: usually looking to get one person from every production to speak,
- 27:40Speaker 5: but ry.
- 27:41Speaker 4: Fun so I usually offer because I've worked on a
- 27:44Speaker 4: lot of productions. I'm surprised that none of them we
- 27:46Speaker 4: would invite me. You know, you know I can let
- 27:50Speaker 4: them know, that'd be great. Basically I'm not doing much,
- 27:55Speaker 4: you know, vook and I need work too because it
- 27:57Speaker 4: was paid by a minute of production. So you know,
- 28:00Speaker 4: like right now is the media is changed. The medium
- 28:04Speaker 4: has changed different way.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you guys think is the biggest change
- 28:09Speaker 2: happening right now? In Christmas movie?
- 28:11Speaker 4: Do I have to say it out loud? How about
- 28:13Speaker 4: the computer?
- 28:15Speaker 2: The computer that's your enemy?
- 28:18Speaker 4: I hate it's the computer. Everybody's just always on the
- 28:22Speaker 4: computer because they can do the things or animated movie
- 28:25Speaker 4: on a computer. How about a man sitting in his
- 28:28Speaker 4: garage making it what's happened is this?
- 28:31Speaker 2: And you know some people would argue that it takes
- 28:35Speaker 2: about one fifteenth the amount of time that it takes
- 28:38Speaker 2: you to go through the garage.
- 28:40Speaker 8: And what would you say to those people?
- 28:42Speaker 4: I would say you're wrong, and you would say I
- 28:45Speaker 4: would say wrong, we are all ind okay, so wrong.
- 28:52Speaker 4: And that's because they don't understand that the passion lies
- 28:56Speaker 4: not in the computer, not it's behind the glass green,
- 29:00Speaker 4: but ins man buildings a crap because do you know
- 29:04Speaker 4: what they do. They just draw and then they put
- 29:09Speaker 4: it and they draw and then it's done.
- 29:11Speaker 2: The kids are always on their phones.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 29:17Speaker 9: It's you know, good things cost money, and a lot
- 29:21Speaker 9: of people don't care about things being good anymore as well.
- 29:24Speaker 9: I've noticed, and it's a heartbreak, Paul. I'm sure you've
- 29:26Speaker 9: experienced that.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Yeah, audio engineering completely changed since the fifties, right, especially
- 29:32Speaker 4: with computers the fifties.
- 29:36Speaker 6: I'd argue our department has changed, Uh, a lot of department.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Well how's it changed specifically art?
- 29:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd love to know, because I don't know much
- 29:46Speaker 2: about the technical side of audio engineering. I'd love for
- 29:49Speaker 2: you to get really in the weeds on the specifics
- 29:51Speaker 2: of that.
- 29:51Speaker 8: Yeah, I'll get in the weeds with that.
- 29:53Speaker 6: I'll get in the cords with that, as we say,
- 29:56Speaker 6: lots of cords and wires.
- 30:00Speaker 4: I just for the podcast listeners. Still smoking a cigarette here?
- 30:06Speaker 8: Yeah, sorry, folks.
- 30:07Speaker 6: I'm a child of the seventies, and when you work
- 30:11Speaker 6: in this business for so long, it's like you you
- 30:14Speaker 6: develop habits that you can't break. I can't work on
- 30:17Speaker 6: a Christmas movie and not smoke a damn cigarette.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Let's talk about the specifics of audio engineering.
- 30:24Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, let me get to that.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Oh. I am dying to know the specifics of audio engineering.
- 30:29Speaker 2: And I think the people at home are too. I
- 30:32Speaker 2: think they're begging for it.
- 30:34Speaker 6: In a movie like this Christmas Crab, you're dealing with
- 30:37Speaker 6: gentle sounds, gentle images that are have around physique round
- 30:46Speaker 6: round like there, nothing is sharp.
- 30:48Speaker 2: So the sound is round.
- 30:50Speaker 8: So you're trying not to You're trying to balance that out.
- 30:54Speaker 6: You're trying to uh serve the material, not beat the material.
- 31:00Speaker 4: I can specifically, how has that changed from nineteen fifty
- 31:04Speaker 4: to yess.
- 31:05Speaker 8: So that has changed?
- 31:07Speaker 2: And keep in mind this is being recorded, that has changed.
- 31:13Speaker 2: What do you mean as in, choose your words carefully
- 31:19Speaker 2: because many people will listen to this. Yeah, put you
- 31:25Speaker 2: in a set. I'm sorry to put in field.
- 31:27Speaker 6: I feel that sometimes people want to hear from me
- 31:30Speaker 6: as the audio engineer because.
- 31:33Speaker 8: I think I'll call it out right now. I'll just
- 31:35Speaker 8: say it. I think you guys think I don't know.
- 31:37Speaker 6: What I'm doing, and sometimes you ask me what I'm
- 31:43Speaker 6: doing in acquisitory manner, like I don't know what I'm doing.
- 31:50Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I feel that way.
- 31:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like you know what you're doing it.
- 31:53Speaker 4: I'm just simply asking, how's the field that you know
- 31:56Speaker 4: so well has changed? Now?
- 32:00Speaker 8: Thank you for that.
- 32:00Speaker 5: Do you believe I have the utmost respect for you, Paul?
- 32:04Speaker 5: I think you're really talented, which is why we actually
- 32:07Speaker 5: ask you that specific question to get your expertise in
- 32:11Speaker 5: the field that we know you know a lot about.
- 32:14Speaker 6: See you said that with a weird twinkle behind your eyes.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Oh, I just have that, And I'm just a curious
- 32:20Speaker 2: crab who wants to know.
- 32:24Speaker 5: Watch out, watch out for this one. To be honest,
- 32:26Speaker 5: you give it.
- 32:27Speaker 8: I think.
- 32:28Speaker 6: I think Betty, you look for liars. That's why you
- 32:30Speaker 6: love working with him.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Oh, I love and I you George. You're the light
- 32:37Speaker 2: of my life and I think only fond things of you,
- 32:41Speaker 2: outside of, of course, the confines of US military activity.
- 32:46Speaker 2: That is a no no subject at our dinner table,
- 32:50Speaker 2: and I love our yearly dinners.
- 32:52Speaker 8: Do you have a purple heart, George?
- 32:54Speaker 5: I have a purple heart. Yeah, I have a purple
- 32:57Speaker 5: heart for.
- 32:57Speaker 2: The purple hardy made of Joeanne's crab afts.
- 33:00Speaker 6: I don't crabs a whole crab on the brain.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Gosh, I've been trying to find a rule like this
- 33:09Speaker 2: for Yeah, you have not worked, right, I haven't worked.
- 33:12Speaker 4: So you just did that one movie Christmas Crab And
- 33:15Speaker 4: somehow you have money to go to Burbank.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Well, no money to go to Burbank. Yes, to drive all.
- 33:21Speaker 8: The way out of there.
- 33:21Speaker 4: They let you enter.
- 33:22Speaker 2: The bank's expensive. There are no tolls. I can go
- 33:27Speaker 2: to Burbank.
- 33:28Speaker 5: She did that. In nineteen seventy six, you were in
- 33:30Speaker 5: Battle of the Network Stars. Remember you did Tugger Upe
- 33:33Speaker 5: against mister t I.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Was, yes.
- 33:36Speaker 8: And what's that game show where.
- 33:37Speaker 5: They're all upon a wall oh match game? And they yeah,
- 33:41Speaker 5: where Hollywood? Wherez oh Hollywood? You did do Hollywood Square?
- 33:45Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 33:45Speaker 8: That as a series regular ONMO.
- 33:47Speaker 2: You know what I am selling myself?
- 33:49Speaker 8: Short.
- 33:50Speaker 2: I was a contestant on over one hundred game shows,
- 33:54Speaker 2: and I think I keep getting cast because I look
- 33:59Speaker 2: like just a jolly old grandma, which I truthfully am.
- 34:05Speaker 2: But I also scream like a motherfucker when I win.
- 34:08Speaker 2: And so it's my turn to say, go to bed, go.
- 34:15Speaker 8: To bed, freckles on your balls, barrel burrel the.
- 34:23Speaker 4: Dick burn, Yes exactly.
- 34:28Speaker 2: I not to brag, but I just shot an episode
- 34:32Speaker 2: of Family Game Night, and I won one hundred thousand dollars.
- 34:42Speaker 8: That is enough, Betty to get you to burn.
- 34:44Speaker 2: I'm really, really, really good at game shows. Cool.
- 34:49Speaker 4: Did they bring you on as the voice of Christmas Crap?
- 34:52Speaker 5: No?
- 34:52Speaker 2: See they've forgotten. I did that. Everyone is forgotten. I
- 34:56Speaker 2: did that. I didn't start getting cast until about the
- 34:59Speaker 2: a on all these shows because the public memory sort
- 35:04Speaker 2: of faded of you know, who is this Christmas crap?
- 35:07Speaker 2: I know they air it every year, but it's it's difficult.
- 35:10Speaker 2: It doesn't stick with the new generation, which is great
- 35:13Speaker 2: for me game show wise, because I'm able to put
- 35:16Speaker 2: food on the table. As you guys know, I have
- 35:18Speaker 2: sixteen kids, and so it's tough to to maintain that
- 35:23Speaker 2: stream of income. But I am working my patuity off
- 35:27Speaker 2: going through the game show.
- 35:28Speaker 8: Circuit right now. What are you guys doing? You're looking
- 35:33Speaker 8: for work.
- 35:34Speaker 4: I'm working on looking for work.
- 35:36Speaker 5: Oh you're working on? What's that about us?
- 35:40Speaker 2: You are unpleasant? Is it?
- 35:42Speaker 4: No? I don't know if what's that is. I don't
- 35:44Speaker 4: know how to get you got to get on one,
- 35:46Speaker 4: so I have to get on the computer to do that.
- 35:49Speaker 4: I hate ever since on the computer. Now. I've wanted
- 35:53Speaker 4: to not do that. I want to send a letter
- 35:55Speaker 4: or show up and be hello, I am here to
- 35:58Speaker 4: work hard for you. I'm here to work now, and
- 36:01Speaker 4: I'm there to work hard. So if you know somebody
- 36:05Speaker 4: that's looking for an old man who does vintage style claymation.
- 36:12Speaker 5: I've been working on my final film, it is You're
- 36:18Speaker 5: done after this. It's autobiographical. It's a stop motion film
- 36:22Speaker 5: about my whole life. I've been working on it for
- 36:25Speaker 5: the stop motion person that I'm doing it. Okay, yeah, yeah.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Yeah, And have you ever done have you ever done
- 36:32Speaker 2: it before?
- 36:33Speaker 5: Yes? I said in the beginning of this, I was
- 36:36Speaker 5: part of the lead.
- 36:37Speaker 2: It just seemed like Hines was really taking the reins.
- 36:41Speaker 5: We did it together.
- 36:43Speaker 4: He just disappeared for a while, but then he came back.
- 36:45Speaker 8: Together in the audience. You know, who's your audio?
- 36:49Speaker 5: I'm doing it myself on voice notes coming out, but
- 36:53Speaker 5: it's going to come together.
- 36:54Speaker 2: And who's voicing the crab in your life story?
- 36:57Speaker 5: There's no crab.
- 36:58Speaker 4: Who is a characters about?
- 37:00Speaker 5: Well, it's about me and it's about my extensive, extensive
- 37:05Speaker 5: snack collection. I collect vintage snacks and I have stored them.
- 37:10Speaker 4: In this acclamation movie about you.
- 37:13Speaker 5: It's about an old man collecting snacks over his whole life,
- 37:16Speaker 5: and he looks at a snack and he sees the
- 37:18Speaker 5: memory he caught that snack. You know, I like to
- 37:20Speaker 5: call him catching snacks.
- 37:22Speaker 2: That's actually beautiful. Is it a feature length film?
- 37:25Speaker 5: Well, we're working on it.
- 37:26Speaker 9: I've been working on it about forty five years and
- 37:29Speaker 9: it's about fifteen minutes in so hopefully, hopefully we're going
- 37:33Speaker 9: to finish it.
- 37:34Speaker 4: This sounds a lot like that movie Land of Awen.
- 37:37Speaker 4: Oh what is that movie, Steve Correll movie? What what's that?
- 37:41Speaker 6: Oh?
- 37:41Speaker 5: Welcome to Welcome to.
- 37:44Speaker 4: My Welcome to, Welcome torow, Welcome to Marwin. Yeah, like
- 37:49Speaker 4: Welcome Tomorrow.
- 37:50Speaker 5: It's completely different. It's completely different.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Twenty five years in. I hope it's different.
- 37:56Speaker 5: Yeah, it's really different.
- 37:58Speaker 8: Forty five years.
- 37:59Speaker 9: Yeah, but it's good. I can't complain. I have a
- 38:01Speaker 9: good life. So what are you working on? And also
- 38:05Speaker 9: how has the industry changed from the go ahead and
- 38:08Speaker 9: answer that question.
- 38:09Speaker 4: You're working on something, now, don't ask.
- 38:11Speaker 6: Me that like you're looking for me to fucking flounder
- 38:14Speaker 6: on the ground.
- 38:15Speaker 10: No.
- 38:15Speaker 4: I just asked, like, do you have new apps that
- 38:18Speaker 4: you have to download on the complete It's different.
- 38:20Speaker 8: Now what I'm working on I am working on.
- 38:24Speaker 6: I'm starting to do sound mixing at dinner theaters.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Live sound mixing at dinner theater different. So you're mixing
- 38:34Speaker 2: on knobs. That's fascinating.
- 38:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 38:37Speaker 6: To be honest, I haven't adapted to the times as
- 38:43Speaker 6: best as I could. And that's why I'm so pissed.
- 38:46Speaker 6: And I talk like I'm pissed. I just can't get
- 38:52Speaker 6: with all of the files. I lose files, I misplaced files.
- 38:59Speaker 6: So live stuff good for me because nobody wants that again.
- 39:02Speaker 2: We do it once and we're out, and then you're done.
- 39:04Speaker 5: How do you mix out the sound of the plates
- 39:07Speaker 5: and the forks?
- 39:09Speaker 8: So we don't.
- 39:11Speaker 2: We're making the state, but it's live, so you I
- 39:14Speaker 2: can just imagine that's pretty loud to hear.
- 39:17Speaker 8: Yeah, no, for sure.
- 39:18Speaker 6: I tell my hostesses every time, put those tables back back,
- 39:23Speaker 6: the tables up.
- 39:24Speaker 8: As they say, we got to see the stage, Paul.
- 39:26Speaker 5: So you're the mixer and you are the you manage
- 39:29Speaker 5: the hosts.
- 39:30Speaker 6: I don't like to tell people this, but yes, you
- 39:34Speaker 6: all the restaurant. My brother and I opened this dinner theater. Yes,
- 39:38Speaker 6: it's his project.
- 39:39Speaker 2: What kind of shows do you put on? Because I'd
- 39:42Speaker 2: love to come back. Oh it's only Mama. Well that's
- 39:45Speaker 2: a great.
- 39:46Speaker 6: Show, especially for I would say, ye, especially, but I
- 39:50Speaker 6: keep trying to push those tables back.
- 39:54Speaker 5: Go ahead, go ahead.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Well I'll shot a question because you know obviously what
- 39:58Speaker 2: Christmas heads are. The film is about Christmas. I would
- 40:02Speaker 2: love to know if you guys have any Christmas traditions.
- 40:05Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, that's the question I was going to ask.
- 40:07Speaker 2: That's so funny much and.
- 40:10Speaker 5: I would like to add to that question. Is the
- 40:12Speaker 5: Christmas Crap part of your tradition?
- 40:14Speaker 2: Yea? To do you still watch?
- 40:16Speaker 6: I actually have a funny tradition with the Christmas Crab.
- 40:19Speaker 6: I go home alone and I sent my house. I
- 40:23Speaker 6: get a pack of American I get a pack of Marlboroughs,
- 40:29Speaker 6: and I challenge myself to smoke a whole pack of
- 40:31Speaker 6: cigarettes before the movie ends.
- 40:34Speaker 4: It's fifteen minutes.
- 40:36Speaker 8: And I get sick as a dog.
- 40:41Speaker 4: No.
- 40:43Speaker 8: Yeah, it's like a nice thing though, because you like it. Yeah,
- 40:46Speaker 8: I like it.
- 40:47Speaker 4: I love watching the Christmas Crap every year? Is my wife?
- 40:51Speaker 4: We watch, We have fun, we drink and we just
- 40:55Speaker 4: celebrate what it was back then. Yeah, you know, so
- 40:59Speaker 4: so lovely. That's what me and my wife do.
- 41:02Speaker 8: You know amazing.
- 41:03Speaker 2: What about you, Benny, I well, I love the Christmas
- 41:05Speaker 2: Crab and I have a big family, of course, And
- 41:09Speaker 2: something I think is important about the Christmas Crab is
- 41:12Speaker 2: your individual experience watching the Christmas Crab, because you don't
- 41:15Speaker 2: want to be influenced by others going ooh ah or
- 41:19Speaker 2: laughing at different points. I want everyone to have their
- 41:22Speaker 2: own experience. So every year, on Christmas Day, I send
- 41:27Speaker 2: each of my sixteen children into a room alone to
- 41:30Speaker 2: watch a private screening of the Christmas Crab. And they
- 41:33Speaker 2: do it in succession, and they wear noise canceling headphones
- 41:36Speaker 2: so they can't hear anything else. And then I take
- 41:39Speaker 2: them out and I interview them. I say, how is
- 41:41Speaker 2: it that time? And every year I do this, and
- 41:45Speaker 2: I think it's important because you learn something new every
- 41:48Speaker 2: time you view it.
- 41:50Speaker 4: Yeah, what a.
- 41:50Speaker 8: Traumatic experience for the kids.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Oh no, they love it. They do, They absolutely love it,
- 41:57Speaker 2: love it. All sixteen of them love it, except for
- 42:02Speaker 2: the one I won't mention. He went off to join
- 42:08Speaker 2: the military. So he says, George, it's.
- 42:13Speaker 4: More just you don't believe the military, Betty.
- 42:17Speaker 5: It's been proven the military is a thing that happens.
- 42:20Speaker 2: And the hoax going on that there is a vast
- 42:27Speaker 2: number of troops ready at arms at all times to
- 42:31Speaker 2: defend the United States government's interest and I don't buy
- 42:36Speaker 2: it one bit. I think it's baloney, and I think
- 42:40Speaker 2: it's who ha.
- 42:41Speaker 6: Nobody has this conspiracy. It's just you, Betty, Betty.
- 42:47Speaker 5: The military is proven. It's been proven that it's real. Betty.
- 42:51Speaker 4: About you, George?
- 42:53Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I mean and my wife we watch Christmas
- 42:55Speaker 5: Crab every year. Since my wife and I couldn't have kids.
- 42:58Speaker 5: We like to say that it's our kid because we
- 43:00Speaker 5: met when I was on a Merry Con tour in Tucson.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Is she a Christmas head?
- 43:07Speaker 5: Yeah, we met about six months ago, and uh, she's
- 43:12Speaker 5: my wife and it's our kid. When you are my age,
- 43:17Speaker 5: you fall in love fast. There's no more games.
- 43:19Speaker 4: The same age.
- 43:20Speaker 5: Yeah. Well, and but you're married, right, yeah, which the
- 43:24Speaker 5: ball in is a change never happened for me. I
- 43:27Speaker 5: was all Clay was focusing on the clay and the ideas.
- 43:30Speaker 8: You know, guys, you ever feel like there's no.
- 43:33Speaker 5: Reward every day of my life.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm having a wonderful life. Bye, go to the
- 43:41Speaker 2: bank and people know who I am.
- 43:44Speaker 4: If you finish up, could we just play that final
- 43:47Speaker 4: scene in the Christmas Crab movie just to just to
- 43:50Speaker 4: bring it home. Is it real? What Christmas Crab talks
- 43:53Speaker 4: about stops being so crabby and stops celebrating accept Christmas?
- 43:58Speaker 9: And then there's the prize cameos at the very end
- 44:01Speaker 9: from our favorite ranking and vast characters that come by.
- 44:04Speaker 4: Yeah, so let's do it.
- 44:06Speaker 8: Let's let's play.
- 44:07Speaker 6: Let's play it at half audio because the volume blown out.
- 44:12Speaker 5: Okay, young kids, blow in the mix.
- 44:16Speaker 2: In the mix, will will bump it up? You want
- 44:19Speaker 2: me to bump it down?
- 44:20Speaker 8: Bump it the fuck down?
- 44:22Speaker 5: These were the terms we were looking for earlier.
- 44:25Speaker 4: Bump it the This is all we need earlier, Just
- 44:27Speaker 4: a couple of terms and phrases that you feel like
- 44:31Speaker 4: have changed.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Anyway, I'm so excited to see what this clip looks
- 44:36Speaker 2: like this time. Oh Santa Claus, I'm a cantankers crabby crab,
- 44:45Speaker 2: and I still, even after you've taken me to every
- 44:49Speaker 2: house to deliver every last present, I still don't think
- 44:53Speaker 2: I know what Christmas is all about.
- 44:55Speaker 5: But don't you see, little crab, Christmas isn't about work
- 45:01Speaker 5: or gifts or presents. Christmas is about being with the
- 45:06Speaker 5: ones you.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Love, And do you love me? Santa Claus Well, in the.
