Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome back to Inside the Tape. On Inside the Birds,
- 0:12Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Mosher and with me is Greg Cosell and
- 0:15Speaker 1: Greg always breaks down the tape of the eagles last game,
- 0:18Speaker 1: which was a thirteen to twelve win in Buffalo over
- 0:21Speaker 1: the Bills. And if you thought the Eagles defense had
- 0:25Speaker 1: been playing really well, then you came out of that game,
- 0:27Speaker 1: Greg thinking they are playing on another level because they
- 0:30Speaker 1: certainly answered a challenge of basically having the game put
- 0:34Speaker 1: on their shoulders in the entire second half. We went
- 0:36Speaker 1: through in the last episode the offensive struggles on the
- 0:39Speaker 1: second half, and that asked the defense to basically win
- 0:42Speaker 1: the game, which it did. So what were your biggest
- 0:45Speaker 1: takeaways from strategically what the Eagles did and how they
- 0:49Speaker 1: operated against the Bills.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well, I think they probably felt that they could stop
- 0:54Speaker 2: the run just with their normal defense, which was pretty
- 0:57Speaker 2: much the case. I mean, you know, I think Cook's
- 0:59Speaker 2: long run was ten yards. He didn't have horrible numbers,
- 1:02Speaker 2: but there was no big explosive plays in the run game,
- 1:05Speaker 2: which is something that they normally get. I thought, and
- 1:10Speaker 2: we actually mentioned this, but I'll mention it again because
- 1:13Speaker 2: now we're talking defense. I thought they I didn't chart
- 1:16Speaker 2: at Jeff, but it seemed to me just anecdotally watching
- 1:19Speaker 2: the tape that they featured a higher percentage of stunt concepts.
- 1:23Speaker 2: And I think that was opponents specific because those offensive
- 1:26Speaker 2: guards Edwards and Torrents are not lateral athletes and they
- 1:29Speaker 2: struggle to redirect in past protection. So I think that
- 1:32Speaker 2: was clearly game and opponents specific. And the reality is
- 1:38Speaker 2: when you play the Bills, there's a couple of things
- 1:39Speaker 2: you know going in based on studying the Bills offense.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Number one, they don't really have whiteouts who can win
- 1:46Speaker 2: one on one, so they don't play an offense that
- 1:48Speaker 2: as that can do that. So it becomes very schematic
- 1:54Speaker 2: and not schematic intermediately or vertically schematic, very condensed. That's
- 2:00Speaker 2: what the tape shows that their offense is. You know,
- 2:04Speaker 2: and obviously they had a good record and they win games,
- 2:08Speaker 2: and Josh Allen in games can be unbelievably special, but
- 2:12Speaker 2: they're not really a consistency to sustaining pass offense. You know,
- 2:19Speaker 2: his his yardage totals this year or I believe the
- 2:21Speaker 2: lowest of his career, so you know, it's it's it's
- 2:27Speaker 2: not I think you know, a lot of things about
- 2:30Speaker 2: their past game when you go in and you know
- 2:33Speaker 2: what the Eagles have done all year, but it's even
- 2:35Speaker 2: shows up even more in a game like this is
- 2:38Speaker 2: the way they just let Mitchell even in zone concepts
- 2:41Speaker 2: basically play zero man when it's a three by one
- 2:44Speaker 2: set on the boundary X. The Bills, you're not really
- 2:47Speaker 2: worried about the boundary X.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Right, right, I mean this is the Bills. Have we
- 2:51Speaker 1: talked about in the pregame show.
- 2:52Speaker 3: I mean, you're right right, Cooks out there, you're in
- 2:54Speaker 3: eternal Shapers out there.
- 2:56Speaker 1: They didn't have Talton Kincaid. What kind of impact do
- 2:59Speaker 1: you think that had on what they like to do offensive?
- 3:01Speaker 2: A lot? Yeah, in Caids arguably their best receiver, you know,
- 3:09Speaker 2: and Shakir's good, but he's a certain kind of player,
- 3:14Speaker 2: So I think it had a lot to do. You know,
- 3:16Speaker 2: it's they're just limited in the past game. And you know,
- 3:22Speaker 2: you know, like I said when we spoke about the
- 3:24Speaker 2: Eagles offense, I think people just expect that Josh Allen
- 3:27Speaker 2: can can you know, play quarterback, wide receiver, offensive line.
- 3:31Speaker 2: You know, it's just it's and he's a special player,
- 3:34Speaker 2: but you know, at some point you do need help.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Right, let's talk about Jill and Carter coming back from
- 3:40Speaker 1: a three games off. He obviously had a sack and
- 3:43Speaker 1: he blocked a major pat which was huge in the game.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But over the course of however many snaps it was,
- 3:50Speaker 1: how did you feel like he played pretty well?
- 3:53Speaker 2: I mean, you know, obviously he had the sack where
- 3:56Speaker 2: he just shoved Torrents right back into the pocket. I
- 3:59Speaker 2: mean that's just Jalen Carter being Jalen Carter, strength on contact.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Then a very subtle sort of club arm over move,
- 4:08Speaker 2: which you know I had to watch a number of
- 4:09Speaker 2: times because it was very subtle. But you know, I
- 4:14Speaker 2: thought his presence was there. You know, yeah, he tackles.
- 4:18Speaker 2: You have to understand. You know this, I'm just speaking
- 4:20Speaker 2: even when I watch college players. You know, you can
- 4:22Speaker 2: look at a statue and see a college D tackle
- 4:24Speaker 2: have one tackle and people probably think he had a
- 4:26Speaker 2: bad game, and then you put on the tape and
- 4:28Speaker 2: he dominated the game, right, you know, D tackles don't
- 4:32Speaker 2: I mean, his last year at George he had something
- 4:33Speaker 2: like thirty tackles. D tackles don't necessarily make a lot
- 4:36Speaker 2: of tackles.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Correct, correct, And actually I watched that sack as well
- 4:41Speaker 1: and noticed the subtleness of the arm over move, and
- 4:44Speaker 1: I thought it showed that he was comfortable enough to
- 4:47Speaker 1: be You know, you have to swing your your right
- 4:50Speaker 1: arm like a club right, That's why I call it
- 4:52Speaker 1: club arm over. And maybe he might not have been
- 4:54Speaker 1: able to do that a couple of weeks ago with
- 4:56Speaker 1: his shoulder bothering him. But I also thought, if it
- 4:59Speaker 1: was the way it was not an exaggerated move, that
- 5:04Speaker 1: maybe he's still a little bit restricted, which he's told
- 5:07Speaker 1: sporters he's not one hundred percent. He said it felt better,
- 5:10Speaker 1: but he's not one percent.
- 5:12Speaker 2: You know. I thought a Jomo had a really good
- 5:13Speaker 2: sack on the second possession, another strong snapshot of one
- 5:17Speaker 2: on one domination. This was against Edwards, the left guard.
- 5:20Speaker 2: He initiated contact and extended his arms, generating power in
- 5:24Speaker 2: his upper and lower body. I also thought they had
- 5:27Speaker 2: a really good feel. You know, one thing about the
- 5:30Speaker 2: Bills that I see on tape is and if I
- 5:32Speaker 2: notice it, can you imagine how defense is playing against them?
- 5:35Speaker 2: Notice it? But sometimes it works for the Bills. You know,
- 5:37Speaker 2: it depends on the situation. But they run certain things like,
- 5:41Speaker 2: for instance, they really like to run Cook. James Cook
- 5:47Speaker 2: threw the line of scrimmage on rail routes, okay, and
- 5:51Speaker 2: they've had great success doing that going back, you know,
- 5:53Speaker 2: a couple of years and they tried that, and it's
- 5:57Speaker 2: you know, it's a staple Man beater concept because very
- 6:00Speaker 2: often the linebacker that has to play Cook gets caught
- 6:03Speaker 2: up in traffic.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:05Speaker 2: You know the play I'm talking about, Bond did such
- 6:07Speaker 2: a good job. He you know, the Eagles rushed five
- 6:10Speaker 2: and they played cover one. Bonn had eyes on Cook
- 6:13Speaker 2: matching him right away. Didn't didn't hug up and get caught.
- 6:17Speaker 2: He stayed at the second level and and just matched
- 6:20Speaker 2: it beautifully. And Alan made the throw because that's the
- 6:23Speaker 2: play call. But it was incomplete. I can't tell you
- 6:25Speaker 2: how many times I've seen that play work for them.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and you said that was the Cook right down down, Yeah, Yeah, yeah,
- 6:31Speaker 1: I thought it was. It was. I thought it was.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I remember thinking to myself, this is like three or
- 6:36Speaker 1: four times that we have talked about his ability to
- 6:40Speaker 1: either chase someone down or run with someone who should
- 6:43Speaker 1: be theoretically a lot faster than him. Is his athleticism,
- 6:47Speaker 1: which we talk about sideline sideline ranginess, but even getting
- 6:51Speaker 1: down the field is really something to behold for a
- 6:54Speaker 1: guy that big.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Right, No, it was, well, he's a great pass defender. Yeah,
- 6:58Speaker 2: he's That was just a play, really good play.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Now Campbell. So Campbell played Johangah camp welcome. He played right,
- 7:06Speaker 1: and Nikobe Dean sat was he used similarly? I know
- 7:09Speaker 1: he rushed a lot in five man pressures.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean again, I don't know all the tweaks,
- 7:15Speaker 2: you know, I can't speak to that, but I thought
- 7:18Speaker 2: he played well, you know, they used him at times
- 7:21Speaker 2: as a rusher. There were some four man you know.
- 7:24Speaker 2: The thing is is they people probably can look at
- 7:28Speaker 2: the stats as I'm sure you do and see that
- 7:31Speaker 2: they had I think it's set on true media, which
- 7:34Speaker 2: which I look at that they had nine to five
- 7:36Speaker 2: man pressures, but some of those came from a five
- 7:38Speaker 2: man D line. I don't view that as pressure. You
- 7:41Speaker 2: know that that's me He's not a blitz. But you know, so,
- 7:46Speaker 2: you know, so that number is less than nine to me.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Right, I'm like you, I kind of it's got to
- 7:51Speaker 1: be at least a five or more man rushed to.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Be Yeah, you know, it's got to come from like
- 7:54Speaker 2: second level or you know. Yeah, so they didn't blitz
- 7:58Speaker 2: a lot. They did a number of sim pressures. And
- 8:01Speaker 2: when they do their sim pressures, it's always Barner Campbell
- 8:04Speaker 2: as the fourth rusher. They never used DB's it's always
- 8:08Speaker 2: Barner Campbell.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Mm hmm. How was you? I got asked this a
- 8:12Speaker 1: couple of times, and I don't know. The Bills did
- 8:14Speaker 1: not get a lot of great pass plays that were
- 8:17Speaker 1: meant to be the way they were. I mean, the
- 8:19Speaker 1: fifty yarder was beautiful. The Shaver's catch was pinned against
- 8:22Speaker 1: his helmet.
- 8:23Speaker 2: That was thrown. That was alan kind of throwing to
- 8:26Speaker 2: the one on one on the outside when he when
- 8:28Speaker 2: there was pressure and he was moving right.
- 8:30Speaker 1: How would you say that the two safeties who are
- 8:34Speaker 1: not great athletes but good quod smart football players played
- 8:38Speaker 1: in this game.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Well, I really liked Blanket Ship in this game. And
- 8:44Speaker 2: I think Apps has been really savvy and solid, and
- 8:49Speaker 2: you know, you wouldn't call him a playmaker, but you know,
- 8:51Speaker 2: I think he's assignment.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Sound assignments sound good. Okay, because some people thought that
- 8:56Speaker 1: maybe they got exposed a little bit because there were
- 8:58Speaker 1: some downfield throws, but I mean those those.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Are no, I mean I can tell you what happened
- 9:02Speaker 2: on on the fifty order.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Let's let's save that because we'll take a look at it.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:08Speaker 3: In fact, we'll start taking a look at some some
- 9:11Speaker 3: clips right now. And what we're gonna start with, Greg
- 9:16Speaker 3: is the double stunt.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I believe that led to.
- 9:20Speaker 2: The Hunt Sack. The double stunt, right, Yeah, I mean this.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Is just I know there's different types. Explain the double
- 9:26Speaker 1: stunt concept.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Well, that means there's a stunt on each side of
- 9:29Speaker 2: the D line. They're both what we call te stunts,
- 9:32Speaker 2: which means the tackle goes first, he's the picker or
- 9:34Speaker 2: the penetrator, and then the end loops behind him. And
- 9:38Speaker 2: here the center went to the right side, so on
- 9:41Speaker 2: the left side down below, when the guard Edwards goes
- 9:46Speaker 2: too far outside, he expands too far with no recognition
- 9:50Speaker 2: of the stunt, and then Hunt is the looper and
- 9:52Speaker 2: he loops inside through the B gap and there's no
- 9:55Speaker 2: one there.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you can see at the time of the looping
- 9:57Speaker 1: that the guard is so you know, invested in I
- 10:00Speaker 1: think at the joemo that.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're an empty so it's almost a.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Clear it's almost like a free ride.
- 10:05Speaker 3: For Yeah, Hunt, I thought I had a good game.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Yeah, what'd you think of Hunt?
- 10:13Speaker 2: You know, I think Hunt's been playing well. I he's
- 10:16Speaker 2: I thought he played really well in this game. Overall,
- 10:18Speaker 2: I think he's coming on, and you know, I think,
- 10:21Speaker 2: I know there's still plenty of time this year, but
- 10:23Speaker 2: I think starting next year, he's going to be a
- 10:24Speaker 2: really good player.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I agree that I feel like you're starting to put
- 10:27Speaker 1: together things mentally to go to go along with the athleticism.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And I agree that your athleticism just naturally flashes and
- 10:34Speaker 1: shines through.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I mean, taking away nothing from Nolan Smith, you know,
- 10:38Speaker 2: who's obviously had success. This guy's a bigger, bigger athlete,
- 10:44Speaker 2: and and probably just as good an athlete, you know,
- 10:47Speaker 2: and and he's just longer, bigger, you know, more naturally powerful.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I mean, you know, he's got all that.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Right, here's a good here's the end zone view, which
- 10:57Speaker 1: where you see the left guard just he doesn't even
- 11:00Speaker 1: rotate at all. I mean, that's that was not well
- 11:03Speaker 1: picked up.
- 11:04Speaker 2: No, all right, So.
- 11:06Speaker 1: This is going to be the fifty yard pass play
- 11:08Speaker 1: to Brandon Cooks that I'm going to have you diagnosed.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I can tell you know what happened,
- 11:13Speaker 2: and I know for a fact what happened. So they're
- 11:15Speaker 2: playing Nickel cover eight, which means they're playing a cover
- 11:20Speaker 2: two up top and quarters down below. Okay, So what
- 11:25Speaker 2: happens here is in this particular formation that the Bills show. Okay,
- 11:30Speaker 2: this kind of bunch. It's three there, it's a bunch.
- 11:33Speaker 2: So two things have to happen. See what they're trying
- 11:36Speaker 2: to do here is versus cover two. They're trying to
- 11:39Speaker 2: put Apps in a little bit of a conflict because Apps,
- 11:42Speaker 2: as a cover two safety can't defend two verticals. Okay,
- 11:47Speaker 2: there's you know he can't, So I can cover three
- 11:49Speaker 2: with a post safety. He can't defend two steam routes
- 11:52Speaker 2: on either side of him. So APPS can't can't defend
- 11:56Speaker 2: two vertical routes. So this is not something the Bills
- 12:00Speaker 2: do very often, by the way, So I think the
- 12:02Speaker 2: Eagles got caught just a little bit. So what has
- 12:04Speaker 2: to happen here because of that is Degene has to
- 12:08Speaker 2: carry one of the verticals further than he did. Okay,
- 12:12Speaker 2: so if you run it, you'll see that the Gene
- 12:14Speaker 2: starts and then kind of lets him go.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Like right here, he's letting it right. Yep.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Right, So because the backside blankenship, he's got to proach
- 12:27Speaker 2: the dig route. So therefore you get two on one
- 12:31Speaker 2: versus Epps, and he's expanded, you know. I don't want
- 12:35Speaker 2: to say too far, you know, outside, because I don't
- 12:38Speaker 2: know what they specifically call his landmark, but ultimately with
- 12:43Speaker 2: Degene letting him go, EPP's kind of gets caught.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yep, we'll place ball. Yeah, he was just right.
- 12:51Speaker 2: So well, place ball, because that's a throw where you
- 12:54Speaker 2: have to take him across the field, not vertically up
- 12:58Speaker 2: the field. I've seen too many quarterbacks on these throws
- 13:01Speaker 2: throw it up the field and then Apps would have
- 13:03Speaker 2: been able to make a play. You've got to take
- 13:06Speaker 2: him across the field, and Allen does.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Right as soon as the outside receiver starts to break in.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Is that the clue to Epps that that ball is
- 13:15Speaker 1: going to.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Go to Yeah, and he does move, but he can't
- 13:19Speaker 2: move until the guy breaks.
- 13:20Speaker 1: In right, and so that just gives him Joseph's cover two.
- 13:23Speaker 2: So the corner who that's to the field right, I
- 13:27Speaker 2: believe that was the field yep. So that's Jackson. He's
- 13:31Speaker 2: the flat defender. He's not a vertical defender and cover.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Too, right, right, So there you go, good route concept.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah they got him.
- 13:42Speaker 1: It happens, sure, all right, but like.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I said, it's not something that bills show very often.
- 13:48Speaker 1: There you go, all right, some pressure. We mentioned pressure
- 13:51Speaker 1: and how they used Jihad Campbell. This is going to
- 13:53Speaker 1: be some pressure that leads to an incomplete past. The
- 13:58Speaker 1: palmer over the middle you were called this one.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Oh yeah, where Alan with his strength kind of shook
- 14:03Speaker 2: off the pressure and then tried and tried to throw
- 14:06Speaker 2: and it didn't come out right because you know it
- 14:08Speaker 2: was everything was happening.
- 14:09Speaker 1: So fast, right and this so that's bone right coming
- 14:12Speaker 1: as the fifth man.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Yeah, let's see. Was Yeah, there's a five man pressure yep,
- 14:17Speaker 2: and no one picked him up.
- 14:20Speaker 1: So that's crazy.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Go back, okay, So with the back leaving there, it
- 14:27Speaker 2: becomes empty right now. This is one of those where
- 14:34Speaker 2: I always when I watch plays like this think of
- 14:36Speaker 2: the old Buddy Ryan BTF Blitz to Formation m H,
- 14:42Speaker 2: which we wrote about in great detail in the book
- 14:44Speaker 2: I did with Jaworski, you know, about ten twelve years ago.
- 14:46Speaker 2: That was a big thing with Buddy Ryan where you
- 14:48Speaker 2: don't necessarily have a pressure called. But if the offense
- 14:52Speaker 2: gives you a formation where you know you can get
- 14:55Speaker 2: a pressure like like in other words, if the back
- 14:58Speaker 2: stayed in, would Bond have bled?
- 15:00Speaker 1: It's good call, right, don't No, I'm just no, I
- 15:04Speaker 1: mean I don't know.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yeah, but as soon as the back leaves Bonn you know, hey,
- 15:10Speaker 2: I'm going And notice how as soon as Bawn leaves
- 15:14Speaker 2: the safety to that side whose apps because he's the
- 15:16Speaker 2: field safety, he comes down because he's now.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Going to match the back right now. Surprise, I guess
- 15:24Speaker 1: they didn't. The Bills just did not see this coming
- 15:27Speaker 1: at all. They didn't have any kind of check in
- 15:29Speaker 1: place to take.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I don't know what their checks are, you know, Yeah,
- 15:33Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Right, and then amazingly, Alan almost I mean he gets
- 15:40Speaker 1: the pass off and probably.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Wobble and you know it was a little behind him
- 15:44Speaker 2: right right.
- 15:46Speaker 1: So on the next one we have, this is third
- 15:48Speaker 1: and fifteen where Phillips I believe lines up as a joker.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yep, I think corners the white nine here, isn't he?
- 15:56Speaker 1: Yeah? So I was gonna, I mean I always told
- 16:00Speaker 1: why nine was like if there's a second tight end,
- 16:02Speaker 1: you imagine that and you're on the outside that we.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Refer to it, you know, but but Carter's the defensive
- 16:08Speaker 2: end here.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Yeah, Carter and Smith's outside of over left tackle. You're correct,
- 16:14Speaker 1: which sometimes I think is gonna portend a stunt, but
- 16:17Speaker 1: in this case it really didn't, and it looked like
- 16:20Speaker 1: was Phillips sort of.
- 16:21Speaker 2: This is just this the accumulation of pressure. This is
- 16:25Speaker 2: Alan just knowing that I've been under drest all game
- 16:28Speaker 2: and it's coming and you know, I don't forget. He's
- 16:32Speaker 2: got a bad foot too, Yes, so you know he
- 16:37Speaker 2: goes brilliant. He knows he can't sit in the pocket
- 16:40Speaker 2: and wait.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Right right, He got hit pretty good at the end
- 16:44Speaker 1: of that, I believe by Nolan Smith. Yeah, I thought
- 16:48Speaker 1: the Eagles greg even when they didn't maybe hit him
- 16:50Speaker 1: or sack him, just collapsing the pocket. They're doing a
- 16:54Speaker 1: really good job. That makes the quarterback feel the pressure there.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Yeah, he's feeling it.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Yeah, he had to throw off his back foot. But
- 17:02Speaker 1: we've seen Phillips now as a joker maybe once you're
- 17:05Speaker 1: twice again, if not a game, a couple on a
- 17:08Speaker 1: teple occasions. I think because of his ability to play
- 17:11Speaker 1: inside and outside. That also might be why they're stunting
- 17:14Speaker 1: a little bit more as well. They've got guys who
- 17:16Speaker 1: can play for you know, with Brandon ram out there,
- 17:18Speaker 1: who've played both the inside and the outside and can
- 17:20Speaker 1: move laterally.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Well yeah, I mean this is just the cumulative effective pressure.
- 17:28Speaker 2: You know, quarterbacks are human beings.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Right, this is a completion, But you felt this could
- 17:33Speaker 1: have been a.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Touchdown, should have been a touchdown, should have been a hind.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Of Okay, what happened to? How do they set this up?
- 17:40Speaker 2: Well? This is the Eagles are playing man here if
- 17:43Speaker 2: I'm not mistaken. Let me see start to run it?
- 17:47Speaker 2: Uh not? Sure? Looks at Yeah, it looks manish overall,
- 17:53Speaker 2: but I think there's I think there's some match elements
- 17:56Speaker 2: to this. Okay, so they run Shakir it's basically man inside.
- 18:01Speaker 2: So they run mesh inside and you know, no one really,
- 18:07Speaker 2: no one cuts him, no one jumps him. So he's
- 18:09Speaker 2: wide open right now. Is that Jackson who's trying to
- 18:13Speaker 2: catch up to him?
- 18:15Speaker 1: It is someone someone also fell and around.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Him because I think that's a double number, not an eight.
- 18:21Speaker 2: But look where the ball is.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Hold on once say, I still want to get that
- 18:25Speaker 1: guy see who that is.
- 18:27Speaker 2: I think it might be Apps.
- 18:28Speaker 1: It's Apps, Yeah, yeahs. And he's coming across.
- 18:32Speaker 2: He's he's trying to what we call cut the crosser,
- 18:35Speaker 2: but he's a beat late.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Right here.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Now look at your gear. He has to turn his
- 18:40Speaker 2: whole body inside. If that ball is right out in
- 18:42Speaker 2: front of him, he's a walk in touchdown. Yep.
- 18:45Speaker 1: It leads him.
- 18:46Speaker 2: And this was the drive where they didn't score, where
- 18:49Speaker 2: Bond tackled Allen, you know at the half yard line.
- 18:53Speaker 1: That's right, that's right.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I would have been a walking touchdown.
- 18:56Speaker 1: So what's your favorite phrase? Game of interest? Game of fractions?
- 18:59Speaker 1: If he throws ball just a little bit, if he
- 19:01Speaker 1: just leads him the right way.
- 19:03Speaker 2: This made me think of the time I got to
- 19:05Speaker 2: spend with Bill Walsh out in San Francisco when I
- 19:09Speaker 2: was doing a piece for NFL Films, when I obviously
- 19:11Speaker 2: got to know Bill waltsh very well, and all his
- 19:13Speaker 2: guys had retired, but we were doing the piece and
- 19:16Speaker 2: he brought out in Montana, Rice Roger Craig, and we're
- 19:19Speaker 2: doing this piece out there and Walsh is still coaching
- 19:22Speaker 2: him up like he's their coach. Everybody's retired and he's
- 19:25Speaker 2: telling Joe, Joe, the ball's got to be you know,
- 19:27Speaker 2: where the ball has to be. Practice, if the ball
- 19:31Speaker 2: wasn't where, you know, it wasn't out.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Front, right right? All right, last thing I wanted to
- 19:37Speaker 1: take a look at if we if I can, Yeah,
- 19:39Speaker 1: we have the sack from Jill and Carter that we mentioned,
- 19:42Speaker 1: the subtle one.
- 19:43Speaker 2: This is just one on one domination. This was the
- 19:45Speaker 2: one where he just blows up Torrents.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Yeah, towards a pretty good left card too. Right, he
- 19:50Speaker 1: just doesn't right guard right guard.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Yeah, he's he's a mall or more than a great
- 19:55Speaker 2: path not a bad pass protector. But his strength more
- 19:58Speaker 2: is run blocking. This is it's a better run blocking
- 20:01Speaker 2: line than it is a past protecting line.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Sure, and to your point on the move, he doesn't
- 20:06Speaker 1: immediately hit Torrents with immediate arm over. Some guys will
- 20:11Speaker 1: swim right off the line of scrimmage.
- 20:12Speaker 2: No, because he felt that he moved him, so he
- 20:14Speaker 2: didn't need to do it right away. Because I'm sure
- 20:17Speaker 2: he felt that he won the physical battle on contact.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Yep, And just to sort of shed it, he brings
- 20:23Speaker 1: that arm slightly over this one.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Alan had no chance, right And yeah, he gets flattened.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Absolutely.

- 23:47Speaker 1: Camedn Apothecary top quality Cannabis, great prices and an experience
- 23:52Speaker 1: made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
- 23:55Speaker 2: It was such an odd game because and again not
- 23:58Speaker 2: to joke, we joked in the last one about they
- 23:59Speaker 2: know how to win, but the fact that Allan missed
- 24:03Speaker 2: that throw, which he never misses any you know, again,
- 24:06Speaker 2: who knows why, you know. But and then the Eagles
- 24:09Speaker 2: lose a game that they really totally dominated, and it
- 24:13Speaker 2: would have been very odd to talk about, but they won.
- 24:16Speaker 1: The game, you know, right right.
- 24:19Speaker 2: I wonder what they're feeling is going to be with
- 24:21Speaker 2: the way the offense played about playing this week, because
- 24:25Speaker 2: you know, theoretically they could be the number two seed,
- 24:28Speaker 2: you know, and I'm sure they played the same time
- 24:30Speaker 2: as the Bears. That's what the league does do, so
- 24:33Speaker 2: you know, I would assume the Bears are going to
- 24:36Speaker 2: play people. I don't think they want to drop off.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, there's some just interesting thoughts about it.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I mean, I know that resting players's key. I kind
- 24:45Speaker 1: of think having that second home game, which you would
- 24:48Speaker 1: get in the second round if you were the number
- 24:50Speaker 1: two seed, is pretty vital.
- 24:52Speaker 2: It's hard to win at the link in January.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it really is. It is. And in general, it
- 24:57Speaker 1: saves you a trip, you don't have to get onto
- 24:59Speaker 1: an airplane. I mean, I think all those things are
- 25:02Speaker 1: beneficial enough to want to play for it. But a
- 25:04Speaker 1: coach has to know his own team and if it
- 25:06Speaker 1: feels like he's got guys that are so beat up
- 25:09Speaker 1: that if you gave him an extra week of.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Wrestling, if a guy has a nagging injury, you might
- 25:15Speaker 2: want to sit.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Him, of course.
- 25:17Speaker 3: And you know, the Eagles one of the best road
- 25:19Speaker 3: They have the best road record in football since it
- 25:22Speaker 3: Nick Sirianni took.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Yeah, so you know, so the question is what do
- 25:25Speaker 2: you do, like with Jaylen Hurts, what do you do
- 25:27Speaker 2: with the aj Browns and the you know, the guys
- 25:29Speaker 2: who I mean, everybody probably has something at this time
- 25:32Speaker 2: of year, but you know, we understand what we're talking
- 25:34Speaker 2: about here, guys that really have an injury, right that
- 25:37Speaker 2: if it was like a championship game or Super Bowl,
- 25:39Speaker 2: they play. But do you play in this week?
- 25:42Speaker 1: Right? So I'm curious before we close it out, Greg,
- 25:46Speaker 1: just because we're getting to the end of the year here.
- 25:49Speaker 1: This has nothing not a tape based question on this
- 25:52Speaker 1: game at all. But having watched the tape of pretty
- 25:55Speaker 1: much everyone in the league. Do you have a feel
- 25:57Speaker 1: on who you think is the best team in the league.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I think it's kind of an open year, you know,
- 26:02Speaker 2: in that sense. I mean, I think there are some
- 26:05Speaker 2: teams that are really strong in certain units, but then
- 26:08Speaker 2: there's other units that you don't necessarily from. And this
- 26:11Speaker 2: is all tape based what I'm saying. It's not just like, oh,
- 26:15Speaker 2: a feeling I have. Know it comes out as a feeling,
- 26:18Speaker 2: but the feeling is based on watching the teams every week.
- 26:21Speaker 2: You know. It's like Seattle. I love their defense, love
- 26:24Speaker 2: their defense. Offensively, they've been very up and down. You know.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Can they be great at any time, yes, but are
- 26:33Speaker 2: there games where it just seems like they really struggle
- 26:36Speaker 2: because they don't really have any kind of consistent run
- 26:38Speaker 2: game right, and their all line can be up and
- 26:42Speaker 2: down in past pro So, you know, I look at
- 26:45Speaker 2: them and think, if they put it all together in
- 26:46Speaker 2: a given game, they can look like a dominant team.
- 26:50Speaker 2: But I can't sit here and say they're going to
- 26:51Speaker 2: put it together.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Agreed. Agree, I think the most complete team I've seen,
- 26:57Speaker 1: because even in their losses, they've played well and just
- 27:00Speaker 1: maybe giving up something here or there. As the Rams.
- 27:03Speaker 1: You know, they lost. They lost to the Seahawks. They
- 27:05Speaker 1: gave up a punt return that's not doesn't always happen.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Then I think about a team like the Texans, which
- 27:10Speaker 2: clearly has a championship defense. I know, the Eagles, if
- 27:13Speaker 2: they get that far, I wouldn't play them until the
- 27:14Speaker 2: Super Bowl. But their defense is a championship defense. It's terrific.
- 27:19Speaker 2: And I think the Pico Ryans. And again, I'm not
- 27:23Speaker 2: a play call guy, so I'm not gonna sit here
- 27:25Speaker 2: and say I love his play calls, but I think
- 27:27Speaker 2: he does such a good job situationally of attacking offenses.
- 27:32Speaker 2: You know, that's the feeling I get watching his tape. Yeah,
- 27:35Speaker 2: but offensively they have good players. Their O line is
- 27:39Speaker 2: a question for sure. You know Stroud's a great throw
- 27:43Speaker 2: to the football, but he's one of those quarterbacks that
- 27:46Speaker 2: needs to be protected. So you know, again you go
- 27:50Speaker 2: into a game feeling what's their offense. I mean, look
- 27:54Speaker 2: what happened against the Chargers. You know, two big plays
- 27:56Speaker 2: to start, and then after that it seemed like their
- 27:59Speaker 2: offense you know, went away.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's interesting that you mentioned the Chargers that
- 28:04Speaker 1: game because I sort of feel for them, because I
- 28:07Speaker 1: really believe if they had they had their tackles Alt
- 28:10Speaker 1: and here's the other one, All and Slater, that they
- 28:14Speaker 1: would be real, legit Super Bowl contenders. I mean, they're
- 28:17Speaker 1: already in the playoffs, are already what eleven or twelve wins,
- 28:20Speaker 1: are already that. But I I just watched that offensive
- 28:23Speaker 1: line and the beating that Herbert takes every game, and
- 28:26Speaker 1: say this is they've already announced.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I mean again, he's not going to play this week,
- 28:30Speaker 2: which I understand. They're playing the Broncos, who have to win,
- 28:34Speaker 2: you know, which, Again I understand why they're not playing them,
- 28:38Speaker 2: And look, it's their choice, because to me, that game
- 28:41Speaker 2: would be such a good game. I hope they play
- 28:44Speaker 2: their defensive guys because I think their defense is good
- 28:47Speaker 2: and I think they could cause the Broncos some problems.
- 28:50Speaker 2: But if they can't score, you know, and that's you know,
- 28:53Speaker 2: a tough defense to play against. You know, if it's
- 28:55Speaker 2: one of those games that the Broncos could win ten
- 28:58Speaker 2: to six, then you know that could be that kind
- 29:00Speaker 2: of game.
- 29:01Speaker 1: True. Indeed, Greg, great stuff, thank you, great tape breakdown.
- 29:05Speaker 1: We got one more, one more game, at least one
- 29:08Speaker 1: more regular show.
- 29:09Speaker 2: No, there'll be more games, obviously one.
- 29:11Speaker 1: More regular season.
- 29:12Speaker 2: They're in the playoffs. Yeah, and they're gonna get a
- 29:15Speaker 2: home game, you know, obviously the first game. Who knows
- 29:18Speaker 2: how it plays out. I guess right now they play
- 29:20Speaker 2: the Rams if it's six versus.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Three, right, which would be a fascinating Rams are not.
- 29:25Speaker 2: The Rams have no problem playing the Eagles.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Yes, I agree, they don't win, but they certainly keep
- 29:30Speaker 1: it close.
- 29:31Speaker 2: And no, I mean the point is is they don't
- 29:33Speaker 2: shut the Rams down.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Correct, I don't think the Rams will be scared. I agree. Yeah,
- 29:38Speaker 1: all right, that's gonna do it for Inside the Tape
- 29:40Speaker 1: with Greg Cosel. For Greg Cosel, I'm Jeff Mosher catch
- 29:43Speaker 1: all on the next one.
