- 0:04Second Samuel, chapter 4 in the word of God, is a reference
- 0:09point tonight. Last week, we had our Q&A the
- 0:12week before, we had a prayer night, and so it has been two
- 0:16weeks. Since we've come to this text
- 0:21and so there's a special excitement for tonight.
- 0:23I hope you feel that same excitement Second Samuel,
- 0:26chapter 4. And as we come here, I cannot
- 0:32help but feel the need to pray before we go to school.
- 0:38Can we pray one more time? Father, we are deeply aware that
- 0:46without the Holy Spirit. This meeting is vain.
- 0:51Lord, we are fully convinced that the holy spirit is the
- 0:55Difference Maker. He is the factor that brings
- 1:02something that can be deathly dull and bring it to life with
- 1:11Vigor. And we just ask oh God.
- 1:14That that would be the case tonight.
- 1:17You even told your own Apostles that they could not even witness
- 1:21apart from the gift of God in the Holy Spirit and we need him
- 1:25tonight. We do not assume that our gifts
- 1:28are enough. Do not presume that.
- 1:29We can do this apart from your power.
- 1:31We are, we are dependent upon your grace.
- 1:34Even for a study, that might not be as formal as a conference or
- 1:38Sunday morning meeting Lord, be in our midst and let us sense
- 1:42your nearness, more importantly, let us sense the power of your
- 1:46word being driven into our hearts in a way that brings life
- 1:50to our being. And produces the fruit that you
- 1:53desire. We commit this study into your
- 1:56hands in Jesus name, we pray. Amen. second Samuel chapter 4,
- 2:03it is in this chapter that we continue the transition of
- 2:09Israel's monarchy David is very close to being rightfully
- 2:16crowned as the king, not just of Judah, but of all of Israel and
- 2:20before that will take place, there will be a Monumental
- 2:22pivotal moment that will occur, which we will read of in chapter
- 2:264, something huge happened before this.
- 2:30And that was the death of Abner. Who is the commander of the
- 2:34Kingdom of Israel? Who was ruled by ishka, Chef
- 2:38Abner was assassinated, Abner was Unjustly taken from this
- 2:44Earth and David mourn that loss and David is going to see even
- 2:49more Injustice performed at a time when there was great
- 2:53uncertainty and instability in this nation.
- 2:57And so as you and I come keep in mind that things are teetering.
- 3:02Everything now is being shaken. The news of Abner's death is
- 3:07sending a chill down people's spines and that is certainly the
- 3:11case for the king of the majority of the tribes ishka
- 3:15shot. We read here in the first few
- 3:17verses, his response and what is going to happen to him as a
- 3:21result of this man's death verse 1.
- 3:26We read when ishka, chefs, all son, heard that Abner had died
- 3:30at Hebron, his Courage failed. And all Israel was dismayed now,
- 3:38Saul son, had two men who were captains of rating bands.
- 3:41The name of the one was banana and the name of the other Rahab
- 3:46son of Sons of Ramona man of Benjamin from be wroth for be
- 3:50wroth. Also is counted part of Benjamin
- 3:52the bureau theit's fled to get I am and have been sojourners
- 3:56there to this day. Let's pause here.
- 4:00Verse 1 is crucial rich with application.
- 4:05The first thing that we see is Ish besets response to the news
- 4:09that report of Abner's death. Very plainly.
- 4:12We're told that his courage had failed.
- 4:17Now that means more than him being distraught emotionally
- 4:21because someone that he knew and partnered with was now taken
- 4:24from him, this speaks of Hope being dashed.
- 4:30As Abner was a valuable asset and now he was he was gone and
- 4:35Ishmael Seth realized what this would mean for him.
- 4:39And it's very simple. He was going to face a losing
- 4:43battle already ich Mich. At knew that he would stand
- 4:47absolutely no chance before the true king of Israel.
- 4:52Now that Abner is not is not there.
- 4:56And the reason why is because it was Abner's idea to raise up
- 4:59ishka to be the king and any success that they knew.
- 5:03During those seven years was due to Abner and now-ish Bischoff is
- 5:09all by himself. He's standing alone and you have
- 5:13to face these challenges alone and he knew that he was not up
- 5:17for the task. This man was not a true king, he
- 5:21was a puppet ruler. He was used by Abner for Abner
- 5:25to maintain the position of power and I'm sure he was aware
- 5:30of his weakness based on this verse.
- 5:32And he's going to realize very soon just how weak he is.
- 5:38But notice the principal here, his courage failed.
- 5:42Why? Why would a man?
- 5:45Like ishka thesz feel like he failed in his courage and his
- 5:48strength and his confidence? Any idea?
- 5:54Somebody said it. his Hope was in, who In men and amen.
- 6:02A strongman and accomplished man.
- 6:04A confident man, a military man. But a man nonetheless.
- 6:09And if you and I want to know consistent stability, in life,
- 6:13please do what I'm about to tell you to do and that is to never
- 6:17put your confidence in a mere mortal.
- 6:21It is an extremely dangerous habit, and the habit of many, to
- 6:27be able to think that your faith is dependent upon somebody else.
- 6:32Who is made of dust just like you.
- 6:35You will know great, great distress in your short life by
- 6:39simply keeping your perspective and trying to find your
- 6:43salvation. Not the salvation of your soul,
- 6:45but deliverance from many things and someone who might even
- 6:48promised to bring Salvation because that responsibility in
- 6:52that ability Belongs to the Lord Of Glory alone.
- 6:55And that is an important word for us today and you would be
- 6:58amazed to know that if you just put that lens to see how that
- 7:02exhortation is found from Genesis to revelation.
- 7:06It makes you wonder how much God knows of the temptation of even
- 7:09his own children to lean upon Dustin Ash.
- 7:14I want to show you this. This is one Psalm and it's
- 7:16encouraging to just read a big portion of it because this Psalm
- 7:19is literally dedicated to that theme.
- 7:22And if David wrote it, the author is known as unknown.
- 7:25That it's even more inspiring because this man was a king
- 7:28himself, but go to Psalm 146 very quickly and notice a few
- 7:32verses with me, beginning in verse 3 and really you don't
- 7:35even need it. Bound on these verses, they're
- 7:37just so self-explanatory. Consider these charges in a day
- 7:47where political leaders are being seen as Messiah figures in
- 7:522022. And consider these verses as
- 7:56even spiritual leaders, and the past few years have been falling
- 8:00short and disappointing, the Evangelical World in different
- 8:03ways. Look at verse 3, put not your
- 8:06trust in princes. In a son of man in whom, there
- 8:11is no salvation. When his breath departs, he
- 8:15returns to the Earth on that very day, his plans.
- 8:19Perish blessed is. He whose help is in the god of
- 8:23Jacob. Whose hope is in the Lord, his
- 8:26God who made Heaven and Earth the sea and all that is in them
- 8:30who keeps Faith forever. Meaning he is faithful forever
- 8:34verse seven, who executes Justice for the oppressed who
- 8:38gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners
- 8:42free. Here's what the psalmist is
- 8:45trying to say. Your confidence.
- 8:51In God can't be a theological Theory.
- 8:55It's not something that you put in a catechism.
- 8:56It's not something you put in a doctrinal statement, your trust
- 9:00should actually be feelable. And there should be a system of
- 9:05belief that actually really believes that God can intervene
- 9:11in your life at a particular moment.
- 9:15I mean that's why he gives these examples beginning in verse 6
- 9:18and 7, he executes Justice for the oppressed.
- 9:22So on a day like are they were the justice system is so broken
- 9:25and corrupt, we are told to put our trust in the one who can
- 9:28execute True Justice, what else who gives food to the hungry.
- 9:32Well, that's comforting to me in a day where we're talking about
- 9:35food shortages and where the whole world now is not knowing
- 9:39how we're gonna be able to fill our grocery shelves, shelves,
- 9:41and all this talk and rumors of how we can at any moment.
- 9:44Lose what we were Comfortable with on a day-to-day basis but
- 9:48he can actually put food on your plate.
- 9:50He can actually do that. And if you really want to know
- 9:54whether or not your faith and your trust and your dependence
- 9:58upon the Lord, I mean it's really by asking yourself a
- 10:01simple question. All you have to do examine your
- 10:03own heart and just ask yourself this question.
- 10:06Do I actually believe? Do I really, really trust that
- 10:11God is able to supply? Fly. do I actually believe that
- 10:19you'd be amazed to know how many people say it sing it quote it
- 10:25print it wear it but when it really comes to it, there is no
- 10:31true, trusting God and it shows the fear in people.
- 10:37The worrying people. And the psalmist is very clear
- 10:41here. You can actually rely on God.
- 10:44I'm not talking about like one day in eternity, you will
- 10:47restore all things. I'm talking about now.
- 10:49Like right now like tomorrow he can send Ravens, he can make
- 10:53your enemies even come and be at peace with you and provide for
- 10:57you. And so you and I have to have
- 11:00that trust constantly and this Manish Bischoff has opposite
- 11:05conviction. He stands in great contrast to
- 11:08the Mighty Men. David David, who was able to
- 11:12literally stand alone in a valley?
- 11:14When there is a bunch of soldiers behind him, biting
- 11:17their nails and scratching their heads and actually believe.
- 11:20I mean I may not see him but he is here, he is actually here and
- 11:25he will be the force behind this weapon as I sling.
- 11:29Into your face. And he will be the one that will
- 11:33sustain me and guide me throughout it all.
- 11:34We see a great contrast between two kings, who had two different
- 11:38levels of understanding of, who the true God is, and what he's
- 11:40able to do. You know what, so encouraging
- 11:42though, is that there is an obscure verse a verse that many
- 11:45people often don't quote that promises us that God is able to
- 11:50even make us like this Brave hero David.
- 11:54God is actually able we look at a scripture like David.
- 11:57We look at this character and were inspired by him and yet God
- 12:00wants to assure as there's a particular promise that he is
- 12:03able to infuse that same courage, that David knew that we
- 12:07are inspired by and actually live it for ourselves.
- 12:10Can I show you that verse? It's in Zechariah Chapter 12.
- 12:13Verse 8. This is speaking about a future
- 12:15day when Jerusalem will be surrounded by foreign enemies,
- 12:19but this tells me what God is able to do even now in my life.
- 12:25And Zechariah Chapter 12 verse 8, notice the promise that God
- 12:29gives the Israel for a future time and a promise that I
- 12:32believe is available today. Zechariah Chapter 12, the
- 12:38prophet Zechariah Chapter 12 verse 8.
- 12:40We read on that day. The Lord will protect the
- 12:44inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them on
- 12:49that day. Shall be like, who David the
- 12:53feeblest? The weakest.
- 12:56Those who can't lift their head and confidence, even them shall
- 13:00be like that. Mighty warrior David.
- 13:04I take that and I say Lord make me like that.
- 13:07Now today, and this time And then he goes on to say, in the
- 13:12House of David shall be like God, like the angel of the Lord
- 13:15going before them. This is not the point of the
- 13:17study, but if you want to Old Testament verse that confirms
- 13:21the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, it's there.
- 13:24Did you see it? Look at it.
- 13:27And the House of David shall be like, God, the like who the
- 13:32angel of the Lord, who is the Angel of the Lord, the
- 13:34pre-incarnate Christ. So all you need to do is find
- 13:38the verses that prove that the angel of the Lord shares the
- 13:41prerogative, 's and the abilities that Yahweh himself
- 13:45has. And then you could come to a
- 13:47verse like this which is plain and clear shall be like God.
- 13:51Like the angel of the Lord, the angel of the Lord is God.
- 13:55And Jesus is the Angel of the Lord.
- 13:59Going before them. It should be Seth here, Saul
- 14:03son. His courage failed.
- 14:05Because he put his trust in a man.
- 14:07What do you do? What do you do when you lose
- 14:10your job? What do you do when somebody
- 14:13that you trust? That somebody that brought so
- 14:15much encouragement and hope and joy into your life is taken from
- 14:18you? Do you lose courage?
- 14:21Yeah, my sting But we are to be like David and we can be like
- 14:27David by the help of the Holy Spirit.
- 14:29Let's come back to 2nd Samuel 4 and verse two and three.
- 14:32Now Saul son had two men who were captains of rating bands,
- 14:36okay? All for a sudden we are
- 14:38introduced Two two characters we never heard of them before their
- 14:44names. Are banned.
- 14:45Nia and Ricotta and their sons of a man named Ramone and for a
- 14:50specific reason. The Holy Spirit finds it
- 14:53necessary to give us some background about who these
- 14:55characters are. And all that we're told about
- 14:58them is one. They were sons of a man of
- 15:01Benjamin and to that they were military men in this Kingdom,
- 15:06specifically leaders of rating bands, And the question that we
- 15:11should always be asking when we come to text, that seem to be
- 15:15out of place, would seem to be expanded more to.
- 15:18What we would think is necessary is why Why is this given to us?
- 15:23Why are we told these things? Why not?
- 15:26Just give us the name of these men and just tell us what
- 15:29they're about to do know, before we even see what they're about
- 15:32to do. We are told who they are and so
- 15:35I present that question to you. Why do you believe the Lord?
- 15:37The author of these verses wants to tell us about where they're
- 15:40from. Well, one, where are they from?
- 15:47Which tribe do they represent? Ring a bell.
- 15:51Benjamin ring a bell. Who's from Benjamin Saul is from
- 15:56Benjamin, right? So we realize that these men
- 16:00come from the same tribe and that is supposed to cause us to
- 16:04believe at least that whoever these men are because they come
- 16:07from the same tribe, they're going to be loyal to Saul's
- 16:10house. There's some Fidelity that there
- 16:13is some kind of partnership there just because they share
- 16:17the blood of Benjamin. And so we're anticipating that
- 16:22not knowing what they're about to do.
- 16:23We're anticipating that they will come alongside.
- 16:26They will be in partnership with especially because they are all
- 16:29from Benjamin. They're supposed to be loyalty
- 16:32here, and we're going to actually see the opposite and a
- 16:34few verses. But read carefully is something
- 16:38else supposed to be conveyed. And I think there is look at
- 16:43these words here in parentheses, for beer off, they came from be
- 16:46Roth. Also is counted part of
- 16:49Benjamin, so that there is this clarification.
- 16:56Yeah. These men come from be Roth but
- 16:58be Roth. Remember they are actually part
- 17:02of Benjamin implying that perhaps there's some confusion
- 17:07there that broth actually isn't part of Benjamin.
- 17:10So the author inspired by the spirit.
- 17:12Says no, no, no, they are actually connected.
- 17:16Are these men from Benjamin? Answer, yes, or no.
- 17:25Yes, or no. This is where it's so good to be
- 17:29students of the Old Testament, the holy spirit's expecting us
- 17:31to be students of the Old Testament so that when we come
- 17:33to a verse like this, we go, interesting, interesting,
- 17:37something is about to happen based on the background of where
- 17:40they come from, does anybody know this is, like level 10 for
- 17:46Bible quiz, be Roth, you have your hand up.
- 17:49So you might know Here habits previous two, venti mocha.
- 17:55Okay, say that again their inhabitants of Very good.
- 18:00Did you study before tonight? B.
- 18:05Roth is a specific town that was inhabited before the conquest
- 18:14took place. and the mention of that is found in the very book
- 18:19that describes the conquest of Israel into the land of Canaan,
- 18:24which is the book of what Joshua, it's a turn with me
- 18:29quickly to Joshua chapter 9, and I want you to see the reference
- 18:33to be Roth. And to see which context of
- 18:39finds itself. Joshua 9:17.
- 18:53And the people of Israel set out and reach their cities on the
- 18:57third day. Now their cities were gibeon, he
- 18:59fira be wroth and curia. Theorem, do you see it, there be
- 19:05wroth. So now we're told that Joshua
- 19:08and his men, they approach these towns and were told that they
- 19:13didn't attack them. They didn't attack them.
- 19:17And the reason is because these towns were occupied by certain
- 19:22group of people who made a covenant with the nation of
- 19:26Israel, that's what the whole chapter is about.
- 19:28Do you remember that chapter when we had a whole study about
- 19:32which group of people, it's in the chapter, you can just peek
- 19:34and see the name early on the gibeonites, the gibeonites who
- 19:39made a deal with Israel and that deal would Shield them from
- 19:44being annihilated like the Of the inhabitants of the land of
- 19:47Canaan and how did they do that? What's this whole chapter about
- 19:52it's really about how Israel was deceived?
- 19:57So these gibeonites were very clever that they came with old
- 19:59clothes. They came with dried bread and
- 20:02wine skins that were broken and they made it appear as though
- 20:05they had come from a distant land, so that when they
- 20:07approached Joshua and the leadership, they make a covenant
- 20:10with them, because they themselves knew that Israel was
- 20:13sent by God, to bring about total Destruction, and they
- 20:16didn't want to be in that number.
- 20:19And Joshua failed. We're told in that same chapter
- 20:23to seek counsel from the Lord and in doing so they make a
- 20:27covenant with somebody that they were meant to actually destroy
- 20:31and then because of that Covenant it overrode, even the
- 20:34campaign itself to take over and they honor that promise and they
- 20:39brought into subjection to be slaves.
- 20:42And they survived and now the holy spirit with that reference,
- 20:47the fact that they were part of be Rocky came from be rotten and
- 20:50later on once they actually Conquest it Benjamin, The Tribe
- 20:53of Benjamin occupy, that area is wanting us to have the
- 20:58affiliation made. These men came from a town that
- 21:03deceived Israel. Something suspicious on its way.
- 21:10Something discrete, something cunning is being planned here.
- 21:16That's exactly what we are being given with this reference before
- 21:20us. And we're going to see how they
- 21:22are going to actually operate in deception to accomplish a
- 21:25certain goal. And then we think we're done
- 21:28here with new characters until we come to verse 4.
- 21:31If you thought verse 3 was with strange verse 2 and 3 look at
- 21:35verse 4, Jonathan the son of Saul had a son who was crippled
- 21:38and his feet He was five years old when the news about Saul and
- 21:42Jonathan came from Jezreel and his nurse took him up and fled.
- 21:47And as she fled in her haste, he fell and became lame and his
- 21:50name was mephibosheth. And so now this seems out of
- 21:56place a little bit. Again, I ask the question, why,
- 22:00why out of the entire narrative was it necessary to put
- 22:04mephibosheth? and introducing him and even his
- 22:07disability here at this point, you have any idea why Because by
- 22:13Design, there is a case being made here, there's something
- 22:16trying to be communicated, why bring up mephibosheth now?
- 22:21Why not later? He's going to be mentioned
- 22:22later. But why at this point?
- 22:26He's another are very good and so he's actually the next male
- 22:32Heir in line after ishka, chef. And so, what's happening here is
- 22:37we are actually being revealed and where they're being exposed
- 22:43to the feebleness of this Kingdom, just how weak sauce
- 22:47Dynasty has become because we're being prepared for Ishq, has to
- 22:51be assassinated. And the next person in line is
- 22:55apparently, John. In son, mephibosheth, and he's
- 22:58crippled at the feet. And at this point, if you do the
- 23:01numbers, if he was five years old, when he heard the news of
- 23:04his dad and his grandfather being slain at War seven years
- 23:08has passed. So he's around 12 years old.
- 23:11This is supposed to be the next king in line.
- 23:15And what we're trying to understand here, what we're
- 23:18being told is this dynasty is near Extinction, it's almost
- 23:23completely gone. And even though ishka Chef is
- 23:26going to die, David has no worry to be concerned about a rising
- 23:31King, who will fight against him, because this is who he has
- 23:34to actually face if he faces him at all. and so we see here that
- 23:40we are being given a description of just how broken And just how
- 23:46crippled no pun intended, saws house has become.
- 23:52But these verses have so much more to offer us than just that.
- 23:56These verses have so much truth richness for application, and,
- 24:00and precepts for the people of God.
- 24:03You know, I read this and I couldn't help that the
- 24:06condition, the disability of mephibosheth, that he would have
- 24:10to live with, for the rest of his life was something Beyond
- 24:12his control. Somebody who was, who is called
- 24:17to take care of him, nurture him.
- 24:21Secure him, failed him. And dropped him.
- 24:28So this, this Guardian, this nurse, when they heard the news
- 24:31that the Philistines have won the war she panicked.
- 24:34And she picked up a five-year-old.
- 24:36I mean, if you have a five-year-old that's not, that's
- 24:39not necessary. But for whatever reason, she
- 24:42picks up mephibosheth and she runs.
- 24:44And as she runs whether she tripped or she lost grip, this
- 24:48young boy Falls, maybe over a balcony, made with down some
- 24:51stairs and both his feet were broken.
- 24:56Because of failure to heal, right?
- 24:57He would live with this condition where he could not
- 25:01walk for the rest of his life. And I look at this and I cannot
- 25:05help but think that this physical picture is what happens
- 25:09to many people emotionally mentally.
- 25:15You can even say spiritually. At some point in their lives.
- 25:20What do I mean by that? You'd be amazed to know how many
- 25:24people today are fractured because of something that
- 25:27happened to them when they were young.
- 25:30And many of you perhaps can attest to the fact that your
- 25:34parents who were supposed to nourish you and love you.
- 25:39And Supply Grace and wisdom and strength failed.
- 25:44You In other words, dropped you. And just like this nurse they
- 25:52didn't operate in. Good faith, they didn't have an
- 25:56anchoring trust in the Lord, a conviction that he is in
- 25:59control, or they didn't abide by his word.
- 26:02And instead they operated in fear, or lack of wisdom or
- 26:06self-interest and their failure contributed to the Brokenness of
- 26:12your development, you'd be again, amazed to know how many
- 26:19people who are adults and have children today are suffering in
- 26:24their marriage and in the way they relate to their children,
- 26:26because when they were children, They were let down either by the
- 26:32action of a father or mother or the failure to act in the way
- 26:37that they should have Act. So, what do we do?
- 26:43Because I am not in the camp that believes just because
- 26:45something happened in your developmental years, that you're
- 26:48stuck like that for the rest of your life.
- 26:49Modern psychologists might say that, and then just medicate you
- 26:53and call you to just live to blame people for the rest of
- 26:56your life and then justify your Brokenness.
- 27:00Somebody cleverly said that even a broken crayon can draw
- 27:05straight. It just depends who holds it.
- 27:11And a broken life if it is placed in the hands of a perfect
- 27:14God. Can produce good and see
- 27:20Holiness and wholeness because of his goodness, as you've
- 27:25submitted to his lordship and his Shepherd like leadership.
- 27:32Again, we offer counsel and we sit with people and so much
- 27:37trauma that is come from upbringings resurface and
- 27:42manifest in sinful Behavior. But I can't find one place in
- 27:46the Bible, where that is justifiable.
- 27:50Your father wounds do not permit you to be broken and cause
- 27:56others to be broken. Your mother wounds do not permit
- 28:02you to act in a certain way because you fail to have an
- 28:04example, I'm not negating. The fact that there is an
- 28:08influence there and there is some kind of a contribution
- 28:10there but I cannot confidently say that you are to be stuck
- 28:17there because my redeemers to Great, his gospel is too
- 28:21powerful. His love is overwhelming.
- 28:25And that Brokenness in the right hand, can draw a beautiful
- 28:28picture out of your life. If you just trust him and Trust
- 28:32in his word and allow him to heal you And I'm not being
- 28:36overly simplistic by saying that a Wan can be just you know,
- 28:40waved over your head and everything will be solved.
- 28:43But what I am saying is that as you continue to just be there in
- 28:47his presence, in his word surrounded by people who can
- 28:50console you and Lead You you will know wholeness and healing
- 28:53in Jesus name. Unfortunately, you have people
- 28:58who who live pointing to finger and even if that finger points
- 29:02to the past and you know what Isaiah says in Isaiah 58.
- 29:06God even rebukes the nation for many things even though they
- 29:10were fasting and praying because one of the things that they were
- 29:13doing was continually pointing the finger.
- 29:18You will not know healing if you do that, you will not know
- 29:22restoration if you do that. God wants you to look up and
- 29:26stretch out your hands to him and allow him to wash over you
- 29:29in a way that will transform you for good.
- 29:32That's possible. We have something that modern
- 29:35psychology doesn't. We have something that this
- 29:38world cannot figure out any man be in Christ.
- 29:44He is a new creation New Creation.
- 29:46He doesn't patch you up, he renews you Every part of who you
- 29:52are past trauma, present, trauma, and whatever is to come,
- 29:56he can Shield you and keep you. This is a gospel of Hope and
- 30:01mercy. That's the Practical thing that
- 30:03I see. But do you see the prophetic?
- 30:06Here is mephibosheth who has experienced a Brokenness because
- 30:11of a fall caused by another sound familiar.
- 30:16You're a son or a daughter of Adam as am?
- 30:20I And you and I are spiritually broken.
- 30:26We are disabled. We are able to walk in the ways
- 30:28of God. We are unable to keep in step
- 30:30with his commands because of because of our forefathers Who
- 30:35in essence dropped, the human race, and you, and I cannot walk
- 30:41in our own strength. To keep up with his righteous
- 30:45demands but what we will see, in a few chapters is David himself.
- 30:52Asks, for a descendant of Saul and he discovers that
- 30:58mephibosheth is alive. And what does he do?
- 31:01He vows to be kind to him and so he invites this man who could
- 31:04not walk on his two feet to sit at his table.
- 31:09And in second Samuel chapter 9, we read there.
- 31:12That mephibosheth was treated as one of the king's sons and he
- 31:17continually fellowship with David and was provided for and
- 31:21was treated. With unusual kindness because
- 31:25because legally technically this man is an enemy to David and his
- 31:30kingdom. And yet he still extends mercy
- 31:34and does above and beyond what anybody would do with an enemy.
- 31:39And you and I though broken because of a fall, thousands of
- 31:43years ago, Noah greater reward than the fetish F.
- 31:46Because we have the true king of Israel, the son of David who
- 31:49bids us to come and who doesn't just treat us as a son or a
- 31:53daughter, but actually adopts us And cause us as his own and we
- 31:59have continual fellowship with him, not just now, but forever,
- 32:03and ever, and to glory. And so, we even see the gospel
- 32:07here. When you partner this verse with
- 32:09second, Samuel, 9 and Beyond you, see that the gospel picture
- 32:13of a king taking as in the words of men fetishes a dead dog, like
- 32:18you and me and then crowning us with goodness and love and
- 32:23mercy. So, we come back to our main
- 32:27text. and we see in verse 5, what these two Scoundrels, these
- 32:33brothers are going to do And verse 5, we read now the sons of
- 32:38Ramon, the bira theit Rahab and bana set out and about the heat
- 32:43of the day. They came to the house of ishka
- 32:46Chef as he was taking his Noonday rest and they came into
- 32:51the midst of the house, as if to get wheat and they stab them in
- 32:56the stomach, then of a cob and Bandai, his brother escaped.
- 33:04Read the Bible slowly. What stands out to you in these
- 33:10two verses? What details?
- 33:12That could provide some kind of application in our New Covenant
- 33:15Walk With Jesus Christ? Can we draw out from these
- 33:19things? Anything else stands out from
- 33:21you before you rather? If you have something feel free
- 33:33to lift your hand and contribute.
- 33:36It's a big classroom. I know it's intimidating but
- 33:40where he got stabbed in the stomach.
- 33:42Okay, there's something there to observe.
- 33:45And talk about stab-in-the-back. That's one thing stabbed in the
- 33:47stomach. That's pretty cruel.
- 33:50Anything else? Very good.
- 33:58Someone is taking a siesta. A Noonday rest.
- 34:04Seems to be a routine as well. Great observation anything else?
- 34:14Very good. You guys are wonderful students.
- 34:17They came in as if to get wheat, let's just stop there for a
- 34:22moment. Notice, the first thing we are
- 34:24told in verse 5, as he was taking his Noonday rest, very
- 34:29common Middle Eastern heat. You would work early hours in
- 34:34the day and take a time off. People still do this in
- 34:37different parts of the world and I work in the coolness of the
- 34:39evening. And so, we see that this is some
- 34:41kind Routine that the King was a part of and this routine was
- 34:44obviously known to his servants as men.
- 34:47And unfortunately, it was known to these two men.
- 34:50And so they come at a specific time where he is, he is sleeping
- 34:53and that is condemnation to them.
- 34:57That they came to a man in the most vulnerable state that you
- 35:00can be in which is in your sleep and they assassinate him.
- 35:03But this is also an indictment against ishka chef Because we
- 35:08know that Abner has been killed. We know that the nation is an
- 35:11uproar. We know that people are
- 35:13dismayed, we know that there's political upheaval and that's
- 35:16when you take a nap. What's running through your mind
- 35:21to give you the ability to even lay back and close your eyes and
- 35:25actually fall asleep. No, indication of planning.
- 35:29No indication of praying. No indication of communicating
- 35:33your sleeping. And it's in that place where he
- 35:38is actually killed. Listen rest is good, rest is
- 35:45necessary, rest is encouraged. But there's a difference between
- 35:49race and excessive slumber. Because Slumber spiritually
- 35:54speaking makes us sitting ducks. And David will fall into the
- 36:01very same trap and just a few chapters when he was supposed to
- 36:04be at War, but instead, he was lounging on his couch and not
- 36:08just his life, but the life of the nation would never be the
- 36:11same because he chose to be in a place of rest, when he was, in
- 36:15fact, supposed to be in a place of battle. you and I put our
- 36:20souls in grave Jeopardy when we are idle I fear for Christians
- 36:28who do more sitting than serving.
- 36:33And I am very worried for Christians who do more playing
- 36:37than praying, especially in a time where you and I are living
- 36:43in great shifts that are occurring worldwide, that will
- 36:48Usher us into a world and a system and a reality of no
- 36:54return. That will impact even the way
- 36:58the church will operate and move about freely with the gospel in
- 37:03the Great Commission. You know, you and I may look at
- 37:07issue is Seth and think that he is crazy for being able to
- 37:09sleep. But let me tell you something.
- 37:11Even in the past two years, with all the events that took place,
- 37:14you still have Christians who are asleep.
- 37:17I mean, at most, you had somebody who just woke up and
- 37:20then they just went back to sleep because they hit the
- 37:22snooze button. There are still many many
- 37:24believers who do not realize, and understand the significance
- 37:29of the times that we're living in.
- 37:31And it's no wonder Jesus prophesied that he prophesied
- 37:34that even need the time. In the culmination of the age.
- 37:36You're still gonna people engaging in business and
- 37:38marrying and vacationing and investing in like at any moment.
- 37:42The sky is going to split open, he's going to come.
- 37:45So, even during the tribulation period, you're going to have
- 37:47these activities happening. It's not going to be like those
- 37:49apocalyptic movies for everybody's hiding.
- 37:51And eating a can of beans with an AK-47.
- 37:54You're gonna have people actually engaging in day-to-day
- 37:56life distracted by these things. Even though at any moment, the
- 38:01millennial kingdom is going to crash through.
- 38:04And set up a world that we desperately need.
- 38:08And so you and I have to be very, very careful, because when
- 38:12I speak about sleeping, what I'm speaking about, a spiritual
- 38:15Slumber, and spiritual Slumber is simply this and inactivity or
- 38:19an unresponsiveness to the things of God or the events that
- 38:23point to the necessity, to be on alert, the inactivity in the
- 38:28unresponsiveness, to the things of God.
- 38:31When in fact, we should heightened our awareness, and
- 38:36our involvement, and our participation in the things of
- 38:39God, because they events around his demand, such a posture and
- 38:43such a participation Let me read this verse, you don't have to
- 38:47turn there. Look up, Paul tells the Romans,
- 38:48just just because people think sometimes we go overboard with
- 38:53that kind of talk. Romans 13:11 besides this, you
- 38:57know, the time that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep.
- 39:02Paul says, wake up from sleep. Don't you realize the hour that
- 39:05were in for salvation is nearer to us now than when we first
- 39:09believed. Stay on the Roman Church.
- 39:11I mean, even a few years after the church was birthdays, they
- 39:15fell asleep. How much more now wake up.
- 39:19Don't you see this? Don't you realize this Hebrews
- 39:2210 says, I'm paraphrasing that you should continue to meet and
- 39:27encourage one another, all the more as you see the day Drawing
- 39:31Near, that's why we my heart was broken that when a global
- 39:34pandemic happened, we were closing churches down.
- 39:37No, no Hebrews. Hebrews actually says have more
- 39:40meetings. Let me remind you, okay?
- 39:42Just in case I offended somebody there.
- 39:45The Bible predicts not just one pandemic, but pestilence has a
- 39:50plural. Are we going to shut our church
- 39:51down? Every time?
- 39:53There's a pestilence that breaks out because more is coming
- 39:55according to the words of Jesus. The church needs to be the
- 39:59church and we submit to the Lord Of Glory.
- 40:03Not to the Caesar. In the White House.
- 40:08We'll see if this study stays on YouTube after that.
- 40:14So Christians need a wake-up. Christians need to realize that
- 40:18the moment we become inactive is the moment.
- 40:20Satan is at the advantage. Which comes to the next Point as
- 40:26our sister pointed out. What was that?
- 40:29That they came in as though they were grabbing wheat.
- 40:33This is deceptive and so we understand the relationship
- 40:37between them being from be Roth and their their scheme over
- 40:41here. It makes total sense.
- 40:42Now they came in a certain way. They came in Cloak with
- 40:45innocence with a different agenda when in fact they had a
- 40:48murderous plot on their hearts and so they come in And they
- 40:54look at a certain way. They act in a certain way they
- 40:56speak in a certain way when in fact that a dagger in their
- 40:58hands ready to plunge it into the stomach of a man who thought
- 41:03that he was safe enough to sleep when he should have been on his
- 41:06guard. And I think that sequence is
- 41:08beautiful. I think the order of these
- 41:11things is quite insightful. Because what we see here is that
- 41:16there is obviously a failure to discern who these men were and
- 41:18what they were doing, but that always follow spiritual
- 41:21drowsiness. He was asleep.
- 41:27And it makes you wonder where the guards were at.
- 41:31And because their guards were down literally because he was
- 41:34asleep unaware to be able to comprehend the events around
- 41:37him. He could not see what was
- 41:40coming. And so there was a lack of
- 41:44discernment there. And that cost him.
- 41:47His life deception is no small danger to someone who fails to
- 41:52abide in the truth and walk in The Fellowship of the Holy
- 41:54Spirit. And with God's people, but it is
- 41:57a very small threat to somebody who's prayerful And who walks
- 42:03with the Lord day by day and who receives the word of God, on a
- 42:07consistent basis. Such a person is strong and is
- 42:12able even by the grace of God to see past the things that are
- 42:17masked with innocence and Purity and harmlessness and to be able
- 42:21to understand the danger that can be in the Horizon.
- 42:24Somebody who's walking with the Lord consistently is always a
- 42:27few steps ahead of Satan. But someone who is not and is
- 42:32asleep spiritually just, just like what we see here there
- 42:36succumb to the schemes of the enemy without even seeing it
- 42:42coming their way. And I would tell you that the
- 42:45only way that you and I are going to have discernment and
- 42:47these times were deception is going to intensify that's going
- 42:50to be a major theme of the conference.
- 42:54The lack of discernment is troubling among Christians.
- 42:59It is troubling. And so, we have to understand
- 43:02that if we want to know, a heightened discernment and an
- 43:05ability to be ahead of the enemy's schemes, then it's going
- 43:10to require to remain awake. The lack of discipline here,
- 43:15seen a Nishka, Seth can be paralleled to the lack of
- 43:18spiritual discipline and many today and that will contribute
- 43:22to many in filtrations whether personally or into the into the
- 43:26church at Large. And this is why we have to
- 43:30understand. That remaining awake when
- 43:35especially circumstances around us.
- 43:38Are crying out. For answers, we got to be ready
- 43:42with those answers. We read on a verse 7.
- 43:48When they came into the house, as he lay on his bed in his
- 43:50bedroom, they struck him and put him to death and beheaded him.
- 43:53This is gruesome, this is vicious.
- 43:57They took his head and went by the way, of their Arab all night
- 44:01and brought the head of ish bichette to David at Hebron.
- 44:04And they said to the king. Here is the head of ish bichette
- 44:07the son of Saul your enemy who sought your life.
- 44:10The Lord has Avenged my Lord, the king this day on Saul and on
- 44:15his offspring. Two things stand out here.
- 44:21One the way they address David. They were able to change their
- 44:27Alliance very, very swiftly. Is this a genuine?
- 44:33Is this is genuine conviction. Absolutely not.
- 44:36They're no different than Abner. When Abner was able to realize
- 44:39we're on the losing team now. He changed teams in order to
- 44:45secure his position and preserve his life.
- 44:50These men are no different Abner's dead, like we're done.
- 44:53It's just not going to work where a sinking ship time to
- 44:55jump off and they attempt to do so and they come with the
- 45:00verbage and they come even with a parent.
- 45:03Fidelity and faithfulness and loyalty.
- 45:07And the fact that this is repeated, I thought like this is
- 45:09repeating a lot. This theme is repeating a lot
- 45:12and it's very very obvious. Why?
- 45:13Because the holy spirit is trying to convey that, those who
- 45:18stand for nobility and those who stand for righteousness.
- 45:22Often do so, went, it will bring about some self-gratification
- 45:26preservation or promotion but when the sign up sheet, comes
- 45:30out to stand for the truth. When it cost you it knows.
- 45:38But very few names. And so be reminded of that.
- 45:42Don't be surprised if those who stand for the truth will not do
- 45:47so when it will cost them something even those that you
- 45:50thought stood for the truth, don't be surprised if the
- 45:52numbers diminish don't be surprised if you see people
- 45:55jumping ship. And that we have so many Old
- 45:59Testament pictures of that preparing us to see that this
- 46:02will be a possibility in our own Lifetime and it will because the
- 46:05Holy Spirit prophesied it but notice what else they do.
- 46:11Here is the head of is beset? The son of Saul your enemy who
- 46:13saw your life the Lord. Avenged my Lord.
- 46:19The Lord Avenged my Lord. They put God's name with it.
- 46:26They attached the lord's name to it.
- 46:30Believers often believe that taking the lord's name in vain
- 46:34means throwing it out there with Without respect, or as a
- 46:39expression of frustration or flippantly, that's not what it
- 46:43means to take the lord's name in vain.
- 46:44That's in part. one of the greatest ways that we can take
- 46:48the lord's name in vain is when we take his name and attribute
- 46:51it to a message or a decision or behavior and say this is because
- 46:57of God That is one of the most Blasphemous things to really do.
- 47:04And this is exactly what they're doing.
- 47:06They committed this murderous crime and they said well this is
- 47:09God, God is behind this God encourages us and God is doing
- 47:11this for you, David and David wouldn't buy it.
- 47:18But I meditate on this and I thought.
- 47:20Why do people do that though? And this is coming.
- 47:23Now, I'm coming in from a pastoral lens because over the
- 47:26years, I realized that many people do this.
- 47:29I've personally have been the recipient of it on so many
- 47:32occasions. Somebody will come, somebody
- 47:36will write, somebody will send a message.
- 47:39God is telling you, God told me to tell you.
- 47:46Okay. Why?
- 47:49And this I think at best its immaturity, it really is its
- 47:54spiritual immaturity. And there is Grace to be given
- 47:58for those especially when they first come to the faith.
- 48:00Where for some reason they think that, you know, they're like
- 48:03Isaiah or Jeremiah and God is speaking to them about
- 48:05everything and they want to tell everybody what God spoke to them
- 48:08that's at best. but that's not the case and that, that Grace
- 48:16should be replaced with correction and serious
- 48:20correction, especially for those who have matured in years in the
- 48:23faith And it's going to come off strong, but it is strong because
- 48:27this is a very serious thing. I believe one of the reasons why
- 48:30people can so easily associate God's name again, to message, or
- 48:35to a behavior or to a decision. Ready for this is because they
- 48:39believe their name is superior to his Say whoa.
- 48:44What do you mean by that? I'll explain because they have a
- 48:50purpose and they have a Pursuit. Those are tribute God as a
- 48:54source of a claim when it is not true assume.
- 49:01That God's name will support The credibility in the validation of
- 49:04their own name. In other words, the reason why
- 49:08these men are doing what they're doing is because they want to
- 49:10make it more convincing to David.
- 49:13And the reason why many people today run around and use God's
- 49:15name in vain is because they want to come off more convincing
- 49:20and they believe that God's name should serve their name as they
- 49:25try to make their name something.
- 49:29And that is really the ugliness of this.
- 49:33That's why that's why it's so horrendous.
- 49:38And that's all it takes for some people to believe somebody.
- 49:40Oh God said it. Okay.
- 49:42And they submit to that and some of them live tormented because
- 49:45somebody said God said, and God told me to get it.
- 49:48Listen, it's in the Commandments God for saw that people would do
- 49:52this regularly. And so don't be easily shaken.
- 49:56Because somebody said thus says the Lord It's a tragedy and
- 50:03it's, it has created trainwrecks throughout the ages.
- 50:08But there's another reason why I believe people do this and they
- 50:11actually the answer if you want to know, if you're interested
- 50:13and really again, I'm coming from pastoral perspective,
- 50:15because I've seen I've seen the Sheep wounded by this.
- 50:19I've seen so many people broken, and so many people even
- 50:22tormented because at one point, 10 years ago, somebody said God
- 50:25said When in fact it wasn't God. Why do people do this?
- 50:30Can I give you another strong reason.
- 50:32It's actually found in a book where God often condemned those
- 50:37who kept saying thus says the Lord, the book of Jeremiah look
- 50:40at Jeremiah 14:14 very quickly just to get an Insight of why
- 50:45this Behavior. So frequent.
- 50:49And why some are in the habit of doing this.
- 50:55Jeremiah 14:14, easy reference to remember.
- 50:58But look at the look at the rebuke that the Lord offers.
- 51:03When he looks down from heaven and sees all these false
- 51:05prophets running around saying, thus says the Lord, that says
- 51:07the Lord judgment isn't coming Invasion isn't coming.
- 51:10Peace peace. And the Lord said to me, the
- 51:14prophets are prophesying lies in my name, I did not send them,
- 51:19nor did I command them or speak to them.
- 51:21They are prophesying to you a lying Vision worthless
- 51:26divination. And look at us and the deceit of
- 51:29their own minds that is powerful.
- 51:33And the deceit of their own minds.
- 51:35So, do you want to know why even some today are running around in
- 51:38churches and the whispering people God told me, I'll tell
- 51:41you why, at least according to this verse, some people are so
- 51:47Covetous or so Desiring, something to be true.
- 51:54That they actually have come to a point where they believe God
- 51:57told them. So, it's so overwhelming.
- 52:03It's so gripping that they've come to a point where they
- 52:08actually believe that the Lord is the one who is behind,
- 52:12whatever it is, that is rumbling in their hearts.
- 52:16And Jeremiah is told that's the deceit in their own minds. so,
- 52:21they're actually under the persuasion that the Lord is the
- 52:25one behind this because they have misinterpreted their
- 52:30desires with his And so what you have with many people and this
- 52:36can slip and being very practical tonight this can slip
- 52:40and manifests even in dreams that people have.
- 52:44So what you have is you want something so badly, you think
- 52:46about something so often that it pops up in your sleep because
- 52:50it's there in your subconscious, you've been entertaining it with
- 52:52much busyness comes, many dreams, And what has to be God?
- 52:57What has to be God? Because God spoke to Joseph in a
- 53:01dream of Anna and and just it's, it's scary, it's really scary.
- 53:06Now, there will be a time God willing where we can.
- 53:08We can spend a study on how God or can God speak in a subjective
- 53:16way. But oftentimes that's not the
- 53:19case, you know, this and I have to say this, just in case people
- 53:23on YouTube are ready to find anything.
- 53:25The word of God is God's way of speaking to us.
- 53:27Yes, but God can actually manifest in certain ways.
- 53:31My concern is 99% of what people say is.
- 53:35God is not God. And we see here that the
- 53:40contribution too much of God said, is the deception in their
- 53:44own minds. We won't stop there because we
- 53:48have a few verses but we're almost there.
- 53:51Let's go to 2nd Samuel for again, as we conclude.
- 53:56These men says the Lord has Avenged, my Lord, the king this
- 53:59day on Saul and on his offspring, verse 9.
- 54:03But David answered with have been banned his brother.
- 54:06The sons of Ramon, the Beer Authority, as the Lord Lives who
- 54:09has redeemed my life out of every adversity.
- 54:11I love that. As the Lord lives.
- 54:15Now he's invoking the name of Lord in the right way, who has
- 54:19redeemed my life out of every adversity?
- 54:23What's he trying to say there? Contrary to you, Brothers.
- 54:28I experienced the Lord and the way where he delivered me and
- 54:32brought me to this point without the need of deception without
- 54:36the need of manipulation without the need of unrighteous
- 54:40activity. God is the one who made a way
- 54:45God is one. Who brought me to this point.
- 54:46God is the one who is behind all my success, I did not need to
- 54:49participate in any sinful manner to advance the cause he paved
- 54:55the path for me and remove every obstacle without the utilization
- 54:58of shady activity bribery or exploitation.
- 55:04For you to murder. This innocent man.
- 55:08Is enough evidence for me to realize that God is not behind
- 55:10what you're doing. The true God actually brought me
- 55:14here without me needing to do anything.
- 55:18That would grieve him or dishonor him to arrive.
- 55:23This is a true man of God. This is this is a true person
- 55:26who believes in God's leadership in their lives.
- 55:30If God really will bring you somewhere God will do it and you
- 55:33don't have to do anything. That would break his heart or
- 55:39take his name in vain. And then we come to verse 11 as
- 55:43we close. He essentially says in verse 10,
- 55:48the last time somebody said behold saw his dead and that he
- 55:50was bringing good news lost his life verse 11, how much more
- 55:55when wicked men have killed a righteous man in his own house
- 55:57on his bed, shall I? Not now require his blood at
- 56:01your hand and destroy you from the earth and David commanded.
- 56:04His young men, and they killed them and cut off their hands and
- 56:06feet, and hang them beside the pool at Hebron, but they took
- 56:10the head of ishka shot and buried it in the Tomb of Abner
- 56:13at Hebron. So David looks at these
- 56:17mayonnaise as you guys set yourself up, you exposed
- 56:20yourself, you're done. And as a king, who's supposed to
- 56:25execute Justice, he has them executed kind of breaks my heart
- 56:30a little bit because we see that he didn't do this with somebody
- 56:32else. Who did he not do this with?
- 56:35He was supposed to do this with somebody else, but because he
- 56:37had a role that played in his success, he chose not to joab
- 56:41jaw. He didn't do this with joy.
- 56:44And so the inconsistency is a little disheartening but
- 56:46nonetheless there is still something to applaud here.
- 56:48David wants to make it very clear.
- 56:50I will not condone this sin but more than He's doing something
- 56:54very, very strategic and important by condemning these
- 56:57men, these men. He is bringing Clarity that he
- 57:01had no participation in this plot to the watching Nation.
- 57:05I had nothing to do with this man being removed.
- 57:08I did not, I did not try to extinguish saws house.
- 57:12This has nothing to do with me and I will prove it.
- 57:14The men who did this, I will have killed and so he is
- 57:18confirming the righteousness of his own testimony.
- 57:21Listen to this bike. Condemning evil.
- 57:25And that is important because many people believe that our
- 57:30relationship to sin as Christians is merely to shun it
- 57:33and not participate in it but the Bible actually calls us to
- 57:37go further than that. And how we deal with sin that is
- 57:40around us and Ephesians 5:11 is our last verse.
- 57:45It says very plainly. Take no part in the unfruitful
- 57:48works of darkness but instead does anybody know the rest of
- 57:51it? Expose them.
- 57:54Take no participation, no part, no affiliation.
- 58:00Even to the point where he says, don't even talk about these
- 58:03things, because even mentioning certain sins in detail can be
- 58:07spiritually, harmful. But we are to do again.
- 58:12Not just, this is yourself. Go further than that, expose
- 58:16them. You know what?
- 58:16I means expose, confronted rebuke it.
- 58:20Correct it challenge it, teach about it, clarify on it.
- 58:27Expose them. And that's what David is doing.
- 58:32Because if the church is not careful to address certain
- 58:36things, then we put ourselves in a position where we can confuse
- 58:40a watching world. Whether or not we are for it or
- 58:44not for it. And I've heard pastors over the
- 58:49years growing up as a Believer and even being in Ministry in
- 58:53the past several years. I've heard different pastors
- 58:55with with societal issues who refused to address these things
- 59:00publicly because they think that it is not their job to bring
- 59:04about clarification of where their Ministry stands on these
- 59:08things that are clear in the Bible and I agree don't make
- 59:11your Pulpit, something a soap box where you speak about every
- 59:14single issue that comes up on a headline, but We are called to
- 59:18speak on societal issues when they're about Sin.
- 59:23We should be. Because we want the church to be
- 59:28informed and we want the watching world not to be
- 59:30confused of where we stand on these things.
- 59:34And that is how we solidify Our Testimony as David did here.
- 59:38He made a statement of where he stood, according to the law of
- 59:42God based on his condemnation and not just his lack of
- 59:46participation. And if we do that, then we will
- 59:50know great success and being the light of the world.
- 59:53And that is why the days that were living in are so
- 59:55significant because if you've noticed we've seen one moral
- 59:59issue Surface after the next, right?
- 1:00:04And it is not just shook the world, it has been shaking the
- 1:00:07church and if you watch carefully what is actually
- 1:00:11happening? Is there is a divide taking
- 1:00:14place and it's a good division what's actually happening Is the
- 1:00:19churches. Who refuse to expose sin are
- 1:00:25being exposed themselves? That makes sense the churches
- 1:00:30who refused to address and speak about sin because these things
- 1:00:36in society are, pressuring people to speak up, they end up
- 1:00:39confessing that they're actually for these things.
- 1:00:43I could not believe the deafening silence in the
- 1:00:48Evangelical world. When Roe v--, Wade was
- 1:00:50overturned. It was quiet.
- 1:00:55It was too quiet. And you even had some who
- 1:01:01blatantly said, this is an assault on freedom.
- 1:01:04God is about choice and I said this is it.
- 1:01:07This is it. And that's only going to
- 1:01:10intensify and it is by God's Sovereign, will that in the
- 1:01:16west, there's going to be a greater lying drawn between the
- 1:01:19true. And the deceived.
- 1:01:24The true and the deceived. So these are exciting times may,
- 1:01:29I exhort you in closing. Stay awake.
- 1:01:34Stay awake. Not time for not nap.
- 1:01:40Not time to be asleep. Realize the prophetic
- 1:01:44significance of the signs of the time.
- 1:01:49And choose to be a part of what God wants to do in a redeeming
- 1:01:52way in our generation Lori. Thank you for this Bible study.
- 1:01:57But we realize that some things were repeated but we are
- 1:02:00creatures of repetition. We realize that some things were
- 1:02:04new and we thank you for fresh truth.
- 1:02:07The Lord. And this time, we just want to
- 1:02:08respond to you in gratitude that your word, even though thousands
- 1:02:12of years written in a culture that is almost unrecognizable to
- 1:02:18our own in terms of how things work and technology and
- 1:02:22transportation, you still have things to tell us through that.
- 1:02:26Through that time in history, in Israel's monarchy, you have
- 1:02:29things to speak to us today. We bless you for that.
- 1:02:32We thank you from everything that we heard today.
- 1:02:38That it came from your heart. Into our own Lord.
- 1:02:42If there's anybody in here, Who recognizes that they are
- 1:02:47spiritually broken. And that they are a son or
- 1:02:52daughter of Adam. They hear the voice of the king
- 1:02:58to come. To sit at your table and you
- 1:03:02have made a way through the cross of Jesus Christ.
- 1:03:05You have made a way through the blood of the Lamb to redeem
- 1:03:09them. And to adopt them, may they
- 1:03:13sense your voice, beckoning them, and bidding them to
- 1:03:17surrender to your lordship. And to see the love of Jesus
- 1:03:21Christ for them. Even in their Brokenness.
- 1:03:25We ask these things in Jesus name.
- 1:03:27Amen. Can we stand and worship
- 1:03:29together?
