- 0:02Speaker 1: Now we turn to the breath At Advocate to read
- 0:05news from Jackson and Breathett County. Your reader today is
- 0:09Beth McLain. We will begin with the edition dated April first,
- 0:13twenty twenty six, which is donated by the publisher as
- 0:17a reminder. Radio Wise a reading service intended for people
- 0:21who are blind or of other disabilities that make it
- 0:23difficult to read printed material. In today's headline article, Napier
- 0:29found guilty of murder and other related charges. Jury recommends
- 0:33forty five years in prison. A Breathitt County jury returned
- 0:38a guilty plea against a little Buckhorn man who was
- 0:41charged with murder and other violations. The trial of Fairly
- 0:46Napier of little Buckhorn began last week and lasted five
- 0:50days in breath At Circuit Court. Investigators say on Saturday,
- 0:54January sixth, twenty twenty three, at approximately four fifty pm,
- 0:59Stay Troopers responded to a tip that a burnt vehicle
- 1:03had been located on Spicewood Road in the South Fork
- 1:06community of Breathett County. Inside the vehicle, human remains were located.
- 1:12Detectives with Post thirteen responded to the scene to continue
- 1:15the investigation. Authorities also said that a skidder and dozer
- 1:20were found in the area of the burnt car, and
- 1:23the skidder appeared to have human remains and bodily tissues
- 1:26on it. The remains were identified a year later as
- 1:30those of Joony Campbell, Napier's ex wife. According to an
- 1:35arrest citation from the Kentucky State Police KSP, it was
- 1:40reported that Jenny Campbell, the ex wife of Napier, went
- 1:43missing on January fourth. K SP opened a missing person's
- 1:48case and learned during their investigation that Napier was the
- 1:51last known person to have contact with Campbell. Napier was
- 1:56arrested and charged with murder, domestic violence, tamp ring with
- 2:00physical evidence, abuse of a corpse, and criminal mischief first degree.
- 2:05Evidence was introduced by the Commonwealth Attorney's office that proved
- 2:08the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The trial ended at
- 2:12approximately twelve thirty p m. On Monday, March thirtieth, with
- 2:17the jury returning and approximately four hours later with a
- 2:20guilty verdict on charges of murder, domestic violence, tampering with
- 2:24physical evidence, abuse of a corpse, and criminal mischief first degree.
- 2:29The jury recommended thirty years in prison. On the murder charge,
- 2:32and five years each on the tampering with physical evidence,
- 2:36abuse of a corpse, and criminal mischief first degree charges,
- 2:40totaling forty five years. According to a jurer on the
- 2:43panel who wished to remain anonymous, the jury decided on
- 2:47the forty five year sentence based on the fact that
- 2:50the victim was murdered at the age of forty five
- 2:52years old. Formal sentencing is scheduled for May eighth, twenty
- 2:57twenty six, and breadth at Circuit Court. Next from the
- 3:01front page, Concerns arise over choosing of election precinct officers.
- 3:07In a recent meeting of the Breathitt County Election Board,
- 3:10the sheriff representative and the county Clerk chose not to
- 3:13accept many of the proposed election officers submitted by both
- 3:17the Republican and Democrat parties and instead chose their own officers.
- 3:23According to the officials, one of the names added by
- 3:26the clerk and sheriff's representative consisted of a close relative
- 3:30to a candidate that the clerk supports in the upcoming election.
- 3:34The following is a statement from the Brethett County Democrat
- 3:36Committee that was paid for by the committee dear breathat voters.
- 3:41The Democratic Party is aware that there are many concerns
- 3:44about the fairness and integrity of elections passed and the
- 3:48upcoming primary. The Democratic Executive Committee wants to assure voters
- 3:53that they are making every effort to bring transparency to
- 3:56the voting process and remove barriers to voting. The Democrat
- 4:01Party and the Republican Party were united in asking the
- 4:04Fiscal Court to purchase more voting machines for the county.
- 4:08The Court, on a motion by Magistrate Ryan Cheney, and
- 4:12over the objections of the County Clerk, agreed to purchase
- 4:16ten new voting machines in the fall of twenty twenty five.
- 4:20To date, those machines have not been purchased. The Democratic
- 4:24Party and the Republican Party joined in asking the County
- 4:27Elections Board to reopen voting centers in five precincts. Both
- 4:33the sheriff and county Clerk voted against this measure, causing
- 4:37it to fail since the clerk's vote breaks ties on
- 4:40the four member board. The board did vote to open
- 4:43a voting center at Oakdale. The Democratic Party and the
- 4:47Republican Party raised the issue of moving early voting from
- 4:50the court House to a location with more parking, more
- 4:54room for machines, and better handicapped accessibility. Again, the sheriff
- 4:59and county Clerk voted against the measure, so it failed.
- 5:03On March twentieth, twenty twenty six, the County Elections Board
- 5:07meant to finalize the list of poll workers for the
- 5:10twenty twenty six election. K RS one one seven point
- 5:15zero four five is the law governing this process. In
- 5:19accordance with that law, both the Democratic Party and the
- 5:22Republican Party submitted lists of proposed workers. By law, the
- 5:27poll workers were to be chosen from those lists. The
- 5:30county clerk refused to follow the law and added workers
- 5:33of their own, choosing ignoring some qualified workers from the
- 5:37party lists. Among the workers appointed by the county clerk
- 5:41are employees of current candidates and even the father in
- 5:44law of a candidate running in the May primary. When
- 5:47the Democratic Party attempted to advise the county Clerk that
- 5:51this was illegal, the meeting was adjourned with no vote.
- 5:55The Democratic Party has faced opposition at every turn as
- 5:58we try to restore the entire pegrity of elections in
- 6:01Brethett County. No help is coming from the state or
- 6:04national levels. If the citizens of Breathat County want things
- 6:08to change, the best way to effect that change is
- 6:10by turning out to vote. In spite of the hurdles
- 6:13that some of our elected officials fight to keep in place.
- 6:16See you at the polls. Signed the Democratic Party of
- 6:20Brethet County and our final front page article. Former Brethet
- 6:25County man dies in auto accident. Authorities are investigating a
- 6:29deadly crash that occurred in Wolfe County. According to Kentucky
- 6:33State Police, troopers from Post eight Moorhead were notified around
- 6:38ten thirty a m. On Sunday, March twenty second, twenty
- 6:42twenty six, of a single vehicle collision on Kentucky seven
- 6:46one five in the pine Ridge community of Wolfe County.
- 6:50Preliminary findings indicate that twenty three year old Darren Johnson
- 6:55of Bettyville and formerly of Jackson, Kentucky, was traveling northbound
- 7:00on k Y seven one five in a twenty fourteen
- 7:03Kia Sorrento when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed the
- 7:08center line into the southbound lane before leaving the roadway
- 7:11and striking a tree. Johnson was pronounced de ceased at
- 7:15the scene by the Wolf County Coroner. A passenger in
- 7:18the vehicle, twenty nine year old Rebecca Peters of Bettyville,
- 7:22was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital and is
- 7:26currently listed in critical condition. A two year old child,
- 7:30who was also in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and
- 7:33was transported to Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson for treatment.
- 7:38Johnson is survived by several family members, including his father,
- 7:42Horace Napier of Jackson. Funeral service was held on Thursday,
- 7:46March twenty six, twenty twenty six, at one p m.
- 7:50At Grayson Funeral Home in Clay City, Kentucky. The investigation
- 7:55is ongoing and is being led by Kentucky State Police.

- 9:07next move on to The Advocate Columnist and Life on
- 9:11the Old Dirt Road by Bobby Thorpe Highlights of my
- 9:15childhood with an included photo of a Cbee base station.
- 9:20It's identical to the one his father owned when he
- 9:23was growing up years ago in the mid seventies. We
- 9:27would awaken on the cool mornings under two or three
- 9:30heavy homemade quilts, where all of us kids slept in
- 9:33the same bed with mom and dad. Mom and Dad
- 9:36would be taking the ashes out and building a warm
- 9:39fire in the heating stove. While the house was warming up,
- 9:42we would watch our twelve inch black and white TV.
- 9:45Mom would then go out back and draw a few
- 9:47buckets of water out of the well for the day.
- 9:50I walked down the midnight path many of a night
- 9:53to the rough lumber building with no plumbing, and we
- 9:56never had to lock our doors. Then the clothes dryer
- 9:59went from post to post, and the coldest water came
- 10:02out of a bucket instead of the fridge. Milk came
- 10:05from the neighbor's cow. The highlight of the month was
- 10:08a trip to town to get in the commodity line
- 10:11to get cheese, butter and other goodies. Swirl and Dumplings
- 10:16was a holler caught caviare. Even though Grandpa's house had electric,
- 10:21it still smelled of coal oil lamps. The canned food
- 10:24pantry was dug out under the house. We would all
- 10:27gather there each holiday for a huge dinner cooked by
- 10:30the ladies in the coal and wood cook stove. Skipping
- 10:34rocks across the creek was a competition, and climbing the
- 10:37hills was always fun. Everybody had a seabee bay station
- 10:41and we oiled the road to keep the dust down.
- 10:44These are some great memories growing up on the old
- 10:47dirt road. Next, let's play our weekly game of guess who.
- 10:52I will give you the prompt twice, once now and
- 10:55once at the end of this recording Guess who I.
- 11:00I'm a pop singer born in Michigan on April twenty seventh,
- 11:04nineteen eighty eight. I started performing with groups in twenty eleven.
- 11:09In twenty fourteen, I was named as an artist to watch,
- 11:13and a few years later I had a number one
- 11:15hit who Am I? Stay until the end to see
- 11:19if you got it right. Next, let's move back to
- 11:22the Advocate Calumnist and so be It by Pastor Naomi
- 11:27on the topic of strength. Not every day starts with strength.
- 11:32Some mornings you wake up tired, not just physically but
- 11:35in your spirit, carrying things you didn't get to lay
- 11:37down yesterday. And that's okay. God doesn't require you to
- 11:41show up strong. He just asked you to show up.
- 11:44There's something powerful about coming to him exactly as you are,
- 11:49no filter, no pretending, just honest, because that's where grace
- 11:53meets you. You might feel behind, you might feel overwhelmed,
- 11:57you might feel like you're running on empty. But God
- 12:00is his best work in empty places. He feels what
- 12:03we bring to him. He restores what we thought was
- 12:06too far gone. He gives strength that doesn't come from us.
- 12:10So if today feels heavy, don't try to power through
- 12:13it alone. Just take one step, then another, and trust
- 12:17that He's walking right there with you. Jason Crab How
- 12:21do we get strength from the Lord? The Bible teaches
- 12:24that true strength comes from God, not from human resources
- 12:27or will power. It emphasizes that believers should rely on
- 12:31God's strength rather than their own. Prayer is a direct
- 12:35communication with God, allowing believers to seek guidance and receive
- 12:39the renewal needed. Philippians four six through seven states, be
- 12:44anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication
- 12:48with thanksgiving. Let your requests be made known to God.
- 12:51And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will
- 12:55guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Rest is warfare.
- 13:00One of the enemy's greatest strategies is keeping you mentally restless,
- 13:04which can make you physically tired in body and spirit.
- 13:08Because a restless mind and a tired spirit and body
- 13:11can rarely discern clearly, many battles will disappear when a
- 13:15person learns to rest in their body and in their spirit.
- 13:19No one is exempt from facing trials and setbacks that
- 13:23seemingly will wear you out physically and spiritually. The enemy
- 13:27thrives in chaos, pressure, and constant reaction. But a rested heart,
- 13:31content in God, anchored in truth, disarms many traps before
- 13:35they ever reach you. In Philippians four eleven, Paul writes,
- 13:40not that I speak in respects of want, for I
- 13:43have learned in whatsoever state I am therewith. To be
- 13:47content means learning to be satisfied and at peace at
- 13:52in any circumstance, relying on God's provision rather than material abundance.
- 13:57Give it to God, then go rest. You don't burn
- 14:01out from responsibility. You burn out with tiredness and exhaustion
- 14:05from caring what was never yours. Scripture says, cast all
- 14:09your cares upon me, for I care for you first
- 14:12Peter five seven. Because some weights were never meant to
- 14:16stay with you. The joy of the Lord is your strength.
- 14:20In his presence is joy. Begin to worship with him daily,
- 14:24resting in his promises. And see what happens with the
- 14:27tiredness when you show up daily for worship in His presence. Amen,
- 14:31and so be it. We next have a poem by
- 14:35al and Joe Prophet titled he held Me through the Storm.
- 14:41He held me through the storm When fear rose up
- 14:44like thunder, and the doctor spoke of knives. I began
- 14:47to worry and to wonder. But in the quiet moments,
- 14:51when my strength was wearing thin, I called upon my
- 14:54Savior and he whispered trust again. His peace fell down
- 14:59around me like sunlight breaking through a healing I could
- 15:03feel inside. Before I ever knew the path they said
- 15:07was certain, the operations set in stone was lifted from
- 15:11my shoulders by a power not my own. For Jesus
- 15:14touched my body and the pain began to fade. He
- 15:18held me through the darkness till the fear was swept away.
- 15:22Now I stand in gratitude, a testimony in my chest
- 15:26that when the world says impossible, my Jesus does the rest.
- 15:31We next turn to Helping Hands Christian Resources by Kathleen Abner. Hello,

- 17:25a shelter. April or May weather should definitely be better
- 17:28than December. We want to think everyone that supported us
- 17:32and came out on that rainy day in December. We
- 17:34are praying for a pretty day when we do, not
- 17:37when we do get our track this time. Note, we
- 17:40are still collecting aluminum tabs and selling cookbooks for as
- 17:44long as supplies last. We always want to thank all donors, volunteers,
- 17:48and everyone involved with helping us do what we do
- 17:50for our community. If you want to get more information

- 18:29crew member that is not in the photo because he

- 18:44but he also does yard sales and delivers meals to
- 18:47Haven House Homeless Shelter on a regular basis along with
- 18:51the other members of the Meal's transport crew. Daniel is
- 18:54in our prayers for a speedy recovery. Let's next move
- 18:58on to from the Counselor's by Randy Cloth, LPCC and
- 19:03CC the Cross Forgiveness and Mental Wellness. So how can
- 19:09Easter be important to mental health? While I'm not talking
- 19:12mainly about warmer spring weather, Easter egg hunts, chocolate bunnies,
- 19:16and other such traditions, even though these things can be enjoyable.
- 19:20When I was young, my parents had a wonderful tradition
- 19:23of hiding an Easter egg basket in our home for
- 19:25each of us kids. It had jellybeans, candy, a chocolate bunny,
- 19:30and the green grassy stuff which I have learned is
- 19:33called Easter grass. Once, when I was about seven or
- 19:36eight years old, my brother and I looked for these baskets.
- 19:39My younger brother Russ, found his, but I was having
- 19:42a really hard time finding mine. After a while, I
- 19:46sadly stated that I guess I did not have a basket.
- 19:49Soon after I finally found it, I guess I was
- 19:52not a neglected child after all, And of course I
- 19:54wasn't anyway. Getting back to Easter and how it helps
- 19:59concerning our mental health health, many are haunted and deeply
- 20:02troubled by their past. But Jesus's work on the Cross
- 20:05brought forgiveness for all of our sins and poor choices,
- 20:08if we only believe. After all, the poor choice, the
- 20:12disobedience of Adam and Eve is what brought death in
- 20:17all manner of sorrow into the world. Soon after what
- 20:20is often referred to as the Fall, God announced a
- 20:23plan for salvation forgiveness which had been designed before all
- 20:27of this happened. Read about it in the Book of Genesis. Jesus,
- 20:32the son of God, took upon himself the sins of
- 20:34the whole world. Imagine that so we should not be
- 20:38troubled or haunted by our past. Jesus is the only
- 20:41man born to die. That was his main mission in life.
- 20:45According to First John one, nine and ten. If we
- 20:49confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive
- 20:52us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 20:56If we say that we have not sinned, we make
- 20:58him a liar, and his wad word is not in us.
- 21:01New King James version. You can read all about the
- 21:05true Easter story in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in
- 21:07the New Testament. Check it out. Remember, no matter what
- 21:11challenges you may be facing, keep hoping, praying, believing, and trusting,
- 21:16and do not give up. Next. Building a Healthier Breathitt
- 21:21County one Step at a Time by James Elliott Turner,
- 21:24the second Breathitt County Circuit Clerk. How to lose belly
- 21:29fat easily and quickly. You may not know how to
- 21:32lose belly fat, but that doesn't mean it's an impossible feat.
- 21:36In fact, losing belly fat is an achievable goal for
- 21:39most people, even if you hate exercise. That's because recent
- 21:43studies looking into how to lose belly fat have found
- 21:46that there are three leading causes of belly fat that
- 21:48have nothing to do with lack of exercise. Belly fat
- 21:52can lead to dangerous health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes,
- 21:56and cancer, so the quest to trim your waistline is
- 21:59an important one. Studies that examine how to lose belly
- 22:02fat have determined that trans fats, stress, and lack of
- 22:06sleep are the main contributing factors to the unhealthy accumulation
- 22:10of fat in the abdominal area. These findings are good
- 22:13news for people who are desperate to learn how to
- 22:16lose belly fat because it's relatively easy to improve each
- 22:20factor and quickly reduce the size of that bulging belly.
- 22:23Of course, this doesn't mean diet and exercise aren't important
- 22:27to reduce belly fat. Eating healthy food and exercising on
- 22:30a regular basis as vital, but other lifestyle factors are
- 22:34also key when it comes to packing on the pounds.
- 22:37Trans Fats are the number one reason why belly fat
- 22:40is such a problem in America. The number of calories
- 22:43isn't as important as the amount and type of fat
- 22:45you consume on a regular basis. Too much trans fat,
- 22:49the bad kind of fat, leads to dangerous belly fat,
- 22:53which is a risk factor for more serious health problems,
- 22:55including heart disease. If you want advice on how to
- 22:58lose belly fat, a limit transfats from your diet. Another
- 23:03tip get more sleep. A lack of sleep has been
- 23:06shown to influence obesity in adults. People who guess get
- 23:10less than four hours of sleep per night are at
- 23:12a higher risk for gaining belly fat than those who
- 23:14sleep seven to nine hours each night. The reason when
- 23:18you sleep less your body doesn't produce as much leptin,
- 23:22a protein responsible for appetite suppression, and insulin, which regulates
- 23:26blood sugar. A lack of sleep interferes with your body's
- 23:29natural tendency to burn fat. Stress is the third main
- 23:33factor contributing to unattractive and unhealthy belly fat. People today
- 23:38live extremely stressful and busy lives. It can be difficult
- 23:43to eliminate stress and find time to relax. However, if
- 23:46you're interested in learning how to lose belly fat, it
- 23:49may be in your best interests to reduce stress in
- 23:51any way you can. Stress causes the release of the
- 23:55hormones adrenaline, cortisol, an insulin into your bloodstream. Cortisol increases
- 24:00appetite and the production of fat. Specifically in the belly area.
- 24:06Learning how to lose belly fat can be a difficult
- 24:08task if you don't know what you're doing. However, now
- 24:10that you understand how to lose belly fat, there's no
- 24:13excuse not to make some simple lifestyle changes that have
- 24:16the potential to change your life for the better. Cut
- 24:19out the transfats, sleep more, and find effective ways to
- 24:22manage the stress in your life. Now that you know
- 24:25how to lose belly fat, you can go full force
- 24:27and burn those unwonted pounds. Finally, let's chick in on
- 24:31our horoscopes for this week. Aries. Spending time with new
- 24:36friends and those you've known for years can be a
- 24:38satisfying way to pass the week. Try to plan some
- 24:41activities that you can enjoy together, Taurus. This week, you
