  him more. Let's hear today's play from

  Malachi 1, which says, "A son honors his
• 0:16
  father, and a slave is master. If I'm a
• 0:19
  father, where is the honor due me? If
• 0:22
  I'm a master, where is the respect do
• 0:24
  me? Says the Lord Almighty. It is you
• 0:27
  priests who show contempt for my name.
• 0:30
  But you ask, "How have we shown contempt
• 0:32
  for your name?" When you offer blind
• 0:35
  animals for sacrifice, is that not
• 0:37
  wrong? When you sacrifice lame or
• 0:40
  diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try
• 0:43
  offering them to your governor. Would
• 0:45
  you would he be pleased with you? Would
• 0:48
  he accept you? Says the Lord Almighty.

  Cursed is the cheat who has an
• 0:53
  acceptable male in his flock and vows to
• 0:55
  give it, but then sacrifices a blemished
• 0:58
  animal to the Lord. I am a great king,
• 1:01
  says the Lord Almighty, and my name is
• 1:04
  to be feared among the nations. Men, let
• 1:07
  me ask you a hard question. What does
• 1:09
  God get from you first? And what does he
• 1:12
  get last? God wasn't confronting pagans.
• 1:15
  He was confronting men who wore his name
• 1:18
  but treated him casually. They brought
• 1:21
  blind sacrifices, lame offerings,
• 1:24
  leftovers, and God exposes them to with
• 1:27
  one brutal line. Try offering that to
• 1:30
  your governor. In other words, you honor
• 1:33
  men more than me. Under the new
• 1:35
  covenant, God hasn't lowered the bar.
• 1:38
  He's expanded the priesthood. Scripture
• 1:40
  says, "We are now a kingdom of priests
• 1:43
  called to make God known and to bring
• 1:45
  people back to him." So when sin
• 1:47
  increases, when obedience disappears,
• 1:50
  when the church loses influence, the
• 1:53
  problem isn't the culture, it's the
• 1:55
  altar. We've been commanded to make
• 1:57
  disciples by teaching obedience to
• 2:00
  everything Jesus commanded. Our failure
• 2:02
  to obey explains our poverty of
• 2:05
  character and our lack of spiritual
• 2:08
  authority. Why are we failing? Not
• 2:10
  because we lack knowledge, but because
• 2:12
  we've given God what's left. leftover
• 2:15
  time, leftover talent, and leftover
• 2:18
  treasure. Let's be honest, if we work
• 2:21
  this way at our jobs, we'd be fired.
• 2:23
  Yet, we expect God's blessings. Jesus
• 2:26
  didn't dabble in obedience. He denied
• 2:29
  himself, took up his cross daily, and
• 2:31
  lived on mission. That's the standard
• 2:34
  the Holy Spirit is forming in us right
• 2:37
  now. And God reminds us why this
• 2:40
  matters. I am a great king and my name
• 2:43
  is to be feared among the nations. Kings
• 2:47
  don't receive leftovers. So run today's
• 2:50
  play. Audit your altar. Ask yourself,
• 2:54
  what does God get first in my life and
• 2:56
  what does he get last? Then take one
• 2:59
  costly step of obedience today. Honor
• 3:02
  him as father. Submit to him as king.
• 3:06
  Live like a priest on a mission because
• 3:09
  a great king deserves more than what's
• 3:12
