- 0:41The f A. Hey, y'all, welcome today's show. We are going
- 1:02to continue today with the discussing the gifts of the Holy Spirit. But as
- 1:06usual, we'll start with a couple of questions and answers two or three,
- 1:11maybe four, I don't know, from Radio Replies volume one, and in
- 1:15this one, in this particular section, the priests are being questioned by an
- 1:23Anglican and it's particularly interesting because one of the priests, let me think,
- 1:29what were their names, follows Rumbo and Carti. Remember this was written in
- 1:33the forties. I mean, it's a pretty old book. There were pioneers
- 1:38of radio. It's really pretty cool. I mean some of the first international
- 1:42radio and television shows were Catholic. I mean, hopefully we're all familiar with
- 1:49Venerable Fulton Sheen, Archbishop Sheen, who should be a saint and God willing
- 1:56will be soon. He had I think the highest rated religious program on television.
- 2:02Now, not all, not all Catholic programming was good. I cannot
- 2:09remember the name of it. He was a Canadian priest who had a huge
- 2:15radio show about the same time as these two priests, Rumbling and Carti,
- 2:22who was a diehard national socialist. He was an anti Semite. He was
- 2:30a pure Nazi, and he was an ally of President Wilson and FDR.
- 2:37So don't forget that there have been you know, Jesus chose twelve disciples and
- 2:45one of them was Judas. There will always be some bad ones and any
- 2:49priest who aligns himself with liberal Democrats especially, but liberal Republicans too, And
- 2:53we can think of certainly Father Flager, the I believe he's been defrocked.
- 3:00He's a pure communist. I mean, he's race baiting, hate field,
- 3:07radical leftist who has long been I think he's in Chicago one of their most
- 3:14popular priests in the area. Well that should tell you. Remember what Fulton
- 3:19Sheen said, Look for the church that the world hates. Well, if
- 3:23liberal crime filled Chicago loves a priest, probably not a good priest. Yeah,
- 3:30probably not a good priest. And let's just put it this way.
- 3:34Cardinal Dolan's pretty popular in New York. I like Cardinal Dolan, but I
- 3:39got some serious issues with Cardinal Dolan. He's definitely pleasing the people of New
- 3:45York. So anyway, let's get into this. The Church of England repudiates
- 3:52the term Protestant and as far as I am aware, has never used it.
- 3:57The priest's answer, I myself was brought up an Anglican and in the
- 4:00firm belief that I was a Protestant. An Anglican paper, The English Churchman
- 4:06is subtitled a Protestant Family Journal. The King of England is an Anglican,
- 4:12and in his coronation oath he uses the words I solemnly and sincerely profess that
- 4:17I am a faithful Protestant. So, as usual, Anglicans don't know a
- 4:23lot about their church. Neither do the Lutherans. Neither do. A lot
- 4:26of Protestants unfortunately, need to do a lot of Catholics. And that's you
- 4:30know, that's at least part of what I'm trying to correct here. As
- 4:33a convert, it often amazes me that a lot of cradle Catholics know all
- 4:39the traditions and holidays and you know, all kinds of stuff like that,
- 4:43but aren't really solid on their beliefs, and as such fall prey to Protestants.
- 4:49You know, says you must be born again, and they'll be like,
- 4:54well, okay, if Jesus said it, I must be That means
- 4:56I have to become Baptist or something no Jesus actually said, must be born
- 5:00again through water in the blood. That's baptism and the Eucharist. You won't
- 5:03find the Eucharist outside of the Catholic Church. And these days most i must
- 5:10say many, perhaps not most, but many Protestants say that you don't even
- 5:15have to be baptized, it's just symbolic. So anyway, person goes on.
- 5:21We Anglicans strongly claim to be a part of the Catholic Church. They
- 5:26answer. Some Anglicans do, some do not. In any case, if
- 5:30a stray child wandered into some home and declared itself it was a member of
- 5:34that family, it would not avail much if the whole family declared that it
- 5:40was no relative at all. And despite the claims of a few Anglicans,
- 5:45not only Catholics, but practically everyone knows that the Church of England is not
- 5:48a part of the Catholic Church, and that it is as Protestant as the
- 5:53Plymouth Brethren. Catch an Anglican office guard, whoever he may be, and
- 5:58his own church never enters his head when asked to direct someone to the Catholic
- 6:01Church. So what do you mean by that? Like if you met an
- 6:04Anglican on the street and you say, where's the Catholic Church, He'd point
- 6:08you to the Catholic Church and not the Anglican Church, because he knows there's
- 6:11a difference. The Oath taken by the King of England is as Uncatholic a
- 6:15formula as could well be conceived, and it definitely declares Anglican is to be
- 6:20a Protestant sect, cut off from the distinct from the Catholic Church. A
- 6:28person says, we look upon the King not as head of the Anglican Church,
- 6:31but as representative of the British Empire, while they answer, if you
- 6:35have any respect for the law of England, you must regard the King as
- 6:40the head of the Anglican Church. The law says that he is, and
- 6:43to deny it is disloyal. As an Anglican, I always accepted the King
- 6:46as head of the Anglican Church. As a Catholic, I still look upon
- 6:50him as the head of that church. Every loyal subject must do so.
- 6:55In the Book of Common Prayer, prior to the articles, you will read
- 6:58the Profession of the King, which states, being supreme governor of the Church,
- 7:03which is committed to our care by law. The very bishops of the
- 7:08Anglican Church are subject to him and thinks spiritual as well as things temporal.
- 7:12A man is loyal if he respects the laws of his country. We Catholics
- 7:15admit the King is the head of the Church of England, and we are
- 7:18loyal in doing so. But whether the Anglican Church is the true Church of
- 7:23Christ is another question. To that we deny, and no law asks us
- 7:29to admit it, nor could any valid law demand such an admission. A
- 7:35person says, but your church is the Roman Catholic Church. They say,
- 7:40it is the Catholic Church, a church which has its headquarters in Rome,
- 7:44subject to the Bishop of Rome, being the test or true Catholicity. Anglicans,
- 7:49or at least some of them, would like to pretend that we have
- 7:53the Roman form of Catholicity and that they have the English form, but that
- 7:58is a mere pretense. The Catholic Church is international. The Church of England
- 8:03is national, its authority being vested not in any successor of the Apostles,
- 8:09but a successor of King Henry the eighth. What is the difference between the
- 8:13Church of England and the Catholic Church? And they answer that you could fill
- 8:18a book with that, okay, but they answer the differences our legion.
- 8:22Firstly, there is a difference between a church established by Henry the eighth King
- 8:26of England and that established so carefully by Christ. Secondly, the Anglican Church
- 8:31is still subject to Parliament. It is national in character, it is chaotic
- 8:37in doctrine and discipline, has no valid orders, rejects the Mass and the
- 8:41obligation of confession. But why continue? All is summed up to the fundamental
- 8:46difference that the Catholic Church is the true church, whilst the Church of England
- 8:50is a man made substitute church. And you know, Dick's episode will continue
- 8:58to actually discuss the differences between the Catholic Church and the Anglican Church. There
- 9:03are many Anglicans who, for some reason believe that they are Catholic. I
- 9:07happen well, a relative of mine is good friends with an Anglican vicar who
- 9:13is offended because he cannot receive the eucharists in a Catholic church, nor can
- 9:18he give the Euchrist in a Catholic church. And she was kind of upset
- 9:22about it on his behalf, and I said, well, he's not Catholic.
- 9:28I mean it's the thing, he's not Catholic, he's Anglican. If
- 9:31he was to renounce Anglicanism and accept the authority of the Pope, he could
- 9:37even become a priest in the Catholic Church. But until unless he does so,
- 9:41he's no more a Catholic than a seven day adventistis you have to be
- 9:46confirmed in the Catholic Church to receive the Eucharist. It's like, well,
- 9:52someone gave a very good example one time. They said, when we look
- 9:56at the sacraments, we never think that, well, as a Christian,
- 10:01we wouldn't think that spouse swapping or open marriages would be okay, right.
- 10:05The sacrament that bonds a man and a woman together in marriage is a valid
- 10:11sacrament. And after that point, you know, they can only sleep with
- 10:13each other. Someone can't enter their union because they're not part of that bond.
- 10:22They're not part of that sacrament. Just the same thing with confirmation of
- 10:28the Catholic Church. You have to be Catholic to receive the Eucharist, and
- 10:31in order to do so, you have to believe it's a true body and
- 10:35blood of Christ, which also most Anglicans deny, and you have to be
- 10:43in communion with the Church, meaning you've been a confession and you have no
- 10:46mortal sin on your conscience, and that also means you accept all the teachings
- 10:52of the Catholic Church. You can't even be a Catholic and deny the authority
- 10:58of the pope and still be communion with the Church and receive the Eucharist.
- 11:03Now there are you know, set of vacantness and various Yeah, traditional Catholics,
- 11:11as we say that, deny that the prope Francis is the true pope,
- 11:16and that's an issue that's going to get worked out eventually. That will
- 11:20get worked out eventually. There are Greek Orthodox and such that have actually really
- 11:26similar issues that's going to get worked out eventually. But the other Protestant sects
- 11:35or the I should say the Protestant sex, I mean the Orthodox and you
- 11:37know SAIDs and such are not Protestant. The Protestants deny the full authority or
- 11:46even existence of a pope. It's one thing to say, well, I
- 11:50don't think Pope Francis was elected properly, or I don't think whatever, or
- 11:54you know, whatever pope I think he has he you shouldn't have been pope
- 12:00at the same time as you know, Pope Benedict, there are all kinds
- 12:03of issues that need to be resolved there that really have not been sufficiently resolved.
- 12:11That's entirely different than saying I don't believe in a pope, I don't
- 12:13believe in the authority of the Catholic Church. If you don't believe in the
- 12:16authority of the Catholic Church, there's no priest to turn bread and wine into
- 12:22the body and blood of Christ. You cannot disbelieve the teachings of the Catholic
- 12:28Church on the Eucharist and still think you can receive the Eucharist. Jesus said,
- 12:33if you eat his body and drink his blood unworthily, you become guilty
- 12:39of his blood. I mean, you become essentially a murderer. You commit
- 12:43a mortal sin. If you don't believe that the Eucharist is the true presence
- 12:48of Christ, or that the priest who in act it has the authority given
- 12:54to him by God under the authority of the pope and the bishops, it's
- 13:00a packaged deal. Can't you can't just say, you know, you can't
- 13:05cherry pick. It's not a buffet, it's a it's a unity is what
- 13:11it is. So let's go ahead and get into the exhaustive explanation of the
- 13:16catechism Father Sparago's book. So today we're continuing to discuss the Holy Spirit.
- 13:22Today we would discuss the Holy Ghost is guide of the Church. The Holy
- 13:26Ghost maintains and guides the Catholic Church. As the soul is to the body,
- 13:31the Holy Ghost is to the Catholic Church. And like the soul,
- 13:33his action is invisible. He is like the architect of the church. He
- 13:39is the architect of the church. His action produced the incarnation. That's the
- 13:43reference to Luke one thirty five. He exercised his powers for the humanity of
- 13:48Christ Luke four eighteen, Acts ten thirty eight. He perfects the church founded
- 13:54by the Redeemer Ephesians two twenty through twenty two. Spirit secures the Catholic Church
- 14:01from destruction that's Matthew sixteen eighteen, and preserves it from error John fourteen sixteen.
- 14:09You know, these are qualities that are unique to the Catholic Church.
- 14:11Only the Catholic Church is guided by the Holy Spirit, guaranteed by the Holy
- 14:16Spirit not to teach error. Very important and understand this point Number two the
- 14:22Holy Ghost supports the rulers of the Church and the duties of their office.
- 14:28That's Acts twenty twenty eight, and especially the Vicar of Christ the Pope.
- 14:31The Holy Ghost gives to them, what gives to them what they shall say.
- 14:37He speaks through them, as on Pentecost he spoke through the apostles.
- 14:41It's Matthew ten nineteen Matthew ten twenty in the words of Saint Basil. As
- 14:46the pen writes what the writer wishes. So the preacher of the Gospel speaks
- 14:50nothing of his own, but what the Holy Spirit gives him. Three.
- 14:54The Holy Ghost rises up in time of danger for the church able champions of
- 14:58her call, for example, Saint Anthonausius AD. Three seventy three, in
- 15:03the time of the Arians, the Holy Pope Gregory the seventh AD ten a
- 15:09five, when the Church was in general disorder, Saint Dominic AD. Twelve
- 15:13twenty one, and in the time of the albergentisis the Albergensian heresy, Saint
- 15:20Catherine of Siena in thirteen eighty and at the time of the Great Papal Schism,
- 15:26say Ignatius of Loyola fifteen fifty six, and at the time of Luther.
- 15:33The Holy Ghost is the cause that there are so many saints in the
- 15:37church in all ages. Almost every year new saints are canadised in Rome.
- 15:43Under the next topic is apparitions of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost has
- 15:48appeared on the form of a dove, of fire and of tongues to signify
- 15:52the office in the church. To signify his office in the church. The
- 15:56Holy Ghost, says Saint Gregory the Great, appeared in the form of a
- 16:00dove and a fire because his work is done gently and zealously, and whoever
- 16:04is wanting in gentleness and zeal is not under his influence. He appeared in
- 16:10the form of tongues because he gives to man the gift of speech, by
- 16:14which he may inflame others to the love of God. The Holy Ghost appeared
- 16:18in the form of fire because he consumes the dross of our sins, and
- 16:22drives the darkness of ignorance out of our souls, melts the icy coldness of
- 16:26our hearts, and inflames us with the love of God and of our neighbor.
- 16:33And because he hardens and strengthens the heart of man, whom he has
- 16:37made from the clay of the earth. Our God is a consuming fire.
- 16:41It's Hebrews twelve twenty nine. Tomorrow will actually breach a new topic, and
- 16:45it's the ninth article of the Creed. It discusses the Catholic Church and its
- 16:51institution. So very appropriate that would follow on the heels of the Holy Spirit,
- 16:57because the Holy Spirit came down upon the apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary,
- 17:03something that you know, most Protestants tend to overlook at Pentecost, and
- 17:08filled them with the spirit. For some reason, Protestants think it's an insult
- 17:15to God to say that Mary was special is special living in heaven, because
- 17:19God is the God of the living and not the dead. And yet she's
- 17:25one of the very few people that the Holy Spirit came to in flames of
- 17:30tongues tongues of flame on Pentecost. So you know, yet another reason that
- 17:37we venerate the Blessed Virgin Mary. And we'll talk about that much more as
- 17:42well at a later date, but i'll go ahead and wrap it up here.
- 17:45It's sort of a short one for a day, but that's okay.
- 17:48Been a little under the weather, getting back into the swing of things,
- 17:51and we'll start with a shortened for the week, so y'all have a going
- 17:53and i'll talk to you tomorrow.
