- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: patriot It's Unfiltered two thousand and one A Super Bowl
- 0:16Speaker 1: sound Odyssey. Keep forgetting the name right. I'm not Fred
- 0:18Speaker 1: Kirk who hope thousand want to sound odyssey. I know
- 0:21Speaker 1: the English language and I use it. Well. Uh if yeah, dominated, dominated, dominated, dominated,
- 0:27Speaker 1: the discussion. That's good, Joyce. Let me get back to
- 0:30Speaker 1: my point, jet off to this is my show. But
- 0:32Speaker 1: enough about me. What do you think about Rhode Island
- 0:35Speaker 1: on a stormy evening in the seventeenes on a hill
- 0:37Speaker 1: forty nine ers try to have black uniforms for a while.
- 0:40Speaker 1: It doesn't work. Um, that's that's how we got George.
- 0:44Speaker 1: George go out of curiosity. What do you say he'll
- 0:47Speaker 1: be back February eighth. February eighth, he's decompressing some of us.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Can clear e heads? I guess this is Patriot's Unfiltered,
- 0:56Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan. All right, I am, in fact back
- 1:01Speaker 1: February looking like a lobster over there's like three days later.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I was gone for so long one show. I know, well,
- 1:11Speaker 1: I can understand why for some people that you know,
- 1:15Speaker 1: I can understand that. But it is Tuesday here at
- 1:19Speaker 1: Giles Stadium, and this is Patriots unfiltered, the gangs all
- 1:22Speaker 1: here until two o'clock talking everything Patriots and NFL and
- 1:27Speaker 1: Super Bowl and you know, Richard Seymour might get into
- 1:30Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame. And there's a lot going on
- 1:33Speaker 1: this week. Man. Joe Judge, Joe Judge, what what about
- 1:36Speaker 1: it might be back reports this morning as what offensive assistant? Yeah,
- 1:44Speaker 1: just can't do it. They just can't do it, those
- 1:47Speaker 1: little gray areas. Is that a problem for you a
- 1:50Speaker 1: little bit? It is for me too, It is a
- 1:52Speaker 1: little bits. It's I think it's becoming increasingly it's a
- 1:54Speaker 1: pet peeve. I mean, why do we have to be different?
- 1:57Speaker 1: Why why is it okay for everybody else to name
- 1:59Speaker 1: the coordinator? Yeah, and I get it. I'm like, if
- 2:01Speaker 1: everybody did that and it was kind of like a
- 2:04Speaker 1: strategic thing in the first year, you don't do it,
- 2:07Speaker 1: you know, because you don't want to lose the guy
- 2:08Speaker 1: or whatever. But I don't know, do you think it's
- 2:11Speaker 1: something to do with his contract that might be remaining
- 2:13Speaker 1: with the Giants, that that whole like Bilema. Okay, if
- 2:16Speaker 1: that's the reason, then okay, you cannot pronounce anyone's if
- 2:20Speaker 1: there's like a contractual reason because of what's remaining with
- 2:24Speaker 1: the giants, I'm okay with that. Yeah, you know, I
- 2:27Speaker 1: was just that's possible, that is I suppose that is possible.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I would say that that's that's a possibility in this
- 2:33Speaker 1: particular case, but there have been too too many other examples.
- 2:36Speaker 1: That doesn't really have anything to do with their mindset. Man. Yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 1: and if the answer the question for me is if
- 2:42Speaker 1: they like exhibited you know, the trace of a very
- 2:47Speaker 1: well coached team that was a smooth operation, there would
- 2:50Speaker 1: never any problems with communication. I would say, do whatever
- 2:53Speaker 1: you want, give anybody whatever title you need. We haven't
- 2:56Speaker 1: seen that over the last two or three years, with
- 2:59Speaker 1: all of this vagary around who's who's in charge of what.
- 3:04Speaker 1: It doesn't matter if we know who's in charge of what,
- 3:06Speaker 1: But it certainly seems the players don't know who's in
- 3:08Speaker 1: charge of what. I based on the defense some of
- 3:10Speaker 1: the sloppiness that they've had. Yeah, they've had the offensive coordinator,
- 3:13Speaker 1: so you haven't seen that. Right now, We'll see if
- 3:15Speaker 1: the offense is suffering from the same kinds of problems
- 3:18Speaker 1: next year if they don't actually name a coordinator, which
- 3:21Speaker 1: I think And the interesting aspect to this Judge thing
- 3:24Speaker 1: is also like the Raiders were supposedly McDaniels and crew
- 3:27Speaker 1: were trying to lure him back to them as a
- 3:31Speaker 1: special team's coach as a coordinator. And if the job
- 3:35Speaker 1: here is more expansive as far as offense and maybe
- 3:40Speaker 1: potentially being an offensive coordinator, that seems like it might
- 3:43Speaker 1: be more attractive to a guy who was just a
- 3:45Speaker 1: head coach, and it probably has designs on becoming one
- 3:48Speaker 1: again at some point. So what did it say that
- 3:50Speaker 1: Judge was in line for in Vegas special teams coordinator?
- 3:53Speaker 1: Just special teams. Now, remember when he last was here,
- 3:57Speaker 1: he was the wide receivers slash special teams coordinator, so
- 4:01Speaker 1: he was already starting to like right dip his toe
- 4:03Speaker 1: into doing things other than that. Then he gets to
- 4:05Speaker 1: coaching gigs. So now to go, Like, if you're him
- 4:09Speaker 1: and Josh comes to you and says, hey, you're you
- 4:11Speaker 1: need work be my special team's coordinator. I mean, it's like, okay,
- 4:14Speaker 1: you need work, but you're also like I was just
- 4:16Speaker 1: a head coach. Right, that's kind of like and I
- 4:18Speaker 1: think Josh is probably going to be his own coordinator probably. Well,
- 4:21Speaker 1: that's why I asked, because I had seen the stuff
- 4:24Speaker 1: about Vegas, I hadn't seen specifically what. Yeah, and I
- 4:28Speaker 1: would agree with Eric. I would think that Joe Judge
- 4:30Speaker 1: probably looks at that and saying I want to see
- 4:32Speaker 1: if I can run off at that stage. Yeah, kind
- 4:35Speaker 1: of reddefine his career a little bit and a half
- 4:37Speaker 1: step back, but something that he's not totally foreign too.
- 4:40Speaker 1: But had to think they we're gonna bring somebody familiar back.
- 4:42Speaker 1: But I'm a little bit surprised. I mean, does this
- 4:44Speaker 1: rule out Billy, Oh? I think it would. It all
- 4:48Speaker 1: depends on maybe what they're bringing Joe Judge back for
- 4:51Speaker 1: now we can say they're listening him. It's an offensive assistant,
- 4:53Speaker 1: but that's the new coordinator and we might be right. Yeah,
- 4:56Speaker 1: but we might be wrong too bring it into coordinator, right, yeah,
- 5:00Speaker 1: stil early, Yeah, all you could use both. Absolutely. I
- 5:03Speaker 1: mean you're losing you're losing a lot of experience with Ivan, right, Well,
- 5:08Speaker 1: that hasn't been announced yet. Evidently it has I know everybody.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It seems to be the worst kept secret everybody around
- 5:13Speaker 1: has been writing about it constantly, you know, Joe Judge
- 5:18Speaker 1: coming back, But I don't know and moved the needle
- 5:22Speaker 1: for me, I'll be honest. I don't know if it
- 5:23Speaker 1: was Andy that brought up the point or on one
- 5:26Speaker 1: of your shows. Um, but there is something to be
- 5:29Speaker 1: said about you bring in, whether it's Billy O'Brien or
- 5:31Speaker 1: Joe Judge, they don't want to stay here forever. They
- 5:35Speaker 1: want to probably get another crack at a head coaching job.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And you know, is there another thing that maybe you
- 5:44Speaker 1: name him as assistant and then but you're at the
- 5:48Speaker 1: same time cultivating somebody within who's going to be your
- 5:52Speaker 1: coordinator for a longer term to give you that stability.
- 5:55Speaker 1: You know, that would be the point against Billy oh, right,
- 5:58Speaker 1: because you think if he comes into his offensive coordinator,
- 6:01Speaker 1: it has a good, good year. He's probably going to
- 6:04Speaker 1: be on the interview circuit again. And now you have
- 6:06Speaker 1: the chance of three coordinators in three seasons. Right. Yeah,
- 6:09Speaker 1: Joe Judge isn't going to have that concern. Yeah that
- 6:11Speaker 1: could be you can you can do that and probably
- 6:13Speaker 1: not worry about it. Yeah, maybe I was just not
- 6:15Speaker 1: quite as aware of it in the late two thousands,
- 6:18Speaker 1: But it just seemed at that point they always had
- 6:20Speaker 1: just a pipeline of coaches and these you know, guys
- 6:22Speaker 1: like Josh and Maddy p who started out as and
- 6:24Speaker 1: had been there forever, and then by the time they
- 6:27Speaker 1: started to get promoted or to get more responsibility, you're like,
- 6:30Speaker 1: this guy's been here forever. Like I don't really feel
- 6:32Speaker 1: that yet with like Nick Kaylee or Mick Lombardi, like
- 6:34Speaker 1: they've they've been here for a little bit. But yeah,
- 6:39Speaker 1: and you know, I don't, Yeah, I don't think they're
- 6:40Speaker 1: probably ready yet. Yeah, I think, you know, Kayley probably
- 6:44Speaker 1: a little more than Lombardi. But yeah, I agree. I
- 6:47Speaker 1: think that it felt and it might not be that
- 6:50Speaker 1: much different in terms of actual years, but it just
- 6:52Speaker 1: felt like McDaniels was around for longer. Well just you know,
- 6:57Speaker 1: it was two thousands to two thousand and four, five years,
- 7:00Speaker 1: and then he wasn't officially the coordinator at oh five, right,
- 7:04Speaker 1: he got it in. Yeah, he was personnel assistant and
- 7:09Speaker 1: coaching assistant in oh one, and he was a coaching
- 7:11Speaker 1: assistant from O two to oh three, oh four to
- 7:14Speaker 1: oh five he was quarterbacks coach. So it's probably the
- 7:18Speaker 1: same yea, in terms of time. I just feel like
- 7:21Speaker 1: he had more response. I was just gonna say, like,
- 7:23Speaker 1: you know, when, whether it's Dable or McDaniels, I never
- 7:27Speaker 1: paid attention to those guys until it was time to
- 7:29Speaker 1: pay attention to him, and then I realized it, Oh,
- 7:31Speaker 1: I didn't know he was here that long. Yeah, well
- 7:35Speaker 1: you see him like you kind of see them around. Yeah,
- 7:37Speaker 1: I feel you don't really know what they're doing, what
- 7:38Speaker 1: they're responsible for. But then all of a suddenly, like
- 7:41Speaker 1: they get promoted and you're like, oh, yeah, I recognize him.
- 7:43Speaker 1: He's been around here for a little but you don't
- 7:45Speaker 1: really pay attention to them right there, these assistants, And
- 7:48Speaker 1: then you look back at like the you know, twenty
- 7:50Speaker 1: thirteen coaching staff or whatever, and it's all these guys
- 7:52Speaker 1: who have gone on to head coaches that have all
- 7:54Speaker 1: left within the last you know, five years, and it
- 7:57Speaker 1: just doesn't seem like they've been able to catch their
- 7:58Speaker 1: breath and constitute And I mean, I guess it's always
- 8:01Speaker 1: an ongoing process, but there has there has been a
- 8:05Speaker 1: lot of movement over the last three four years with
- 8:08Speaker 1: coaches leaving, you know, turnover on the staff more so
- 8:11Speaker 1: then it seemed like for a while there, it was
- 8:12Speaker 1: like you had a pretty good run of pretty much
- 8:15Speaker 1: a core coaching staff, and a lot of them were
- 8:16Speaker 1: veteran coaches, so you didn't really have that kind of concern.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I mean, now it's like, with all the turnover in
- 8:23Speaker 1: the youth on the coaching staff. I think that's that
- 8:25Speaker 1: maybe a reason we're seeing some of like the collapses
- 8:28Speaker 1: and special teams and on defense in the second half
- 8:31Speaker 1: of the year. I mean, a lot of this stuff
- 8:32Speaker 1: is you know, maybe a little bit much for well, yeah,
- 8:35Speaker 1: that's what I mean. Last year we talked about they
- 8:38Speaker 1: got a new team. Essentially, they brought in all these
- 8:40Speaker 1: new players, and you know, the talk was, all right, well,
- 8:42Speaker 1: how does Belichick manage that? But I just wondered, comparatively,
- 8:45Speaker 1: what's it like having a new team with a bunch
- 8:48Speaker 1: of new players versus I gotta get a bunch of
- 8:50Speaker 1: new coaches? Is that more challenging in some ways for
- 8:53Speaker 1: a coach like this, who has a specific message, who
- 8:55Speaker 1: wants it disseminated a certain way, to not have it
- 8:58Speaker 1: be a big, you know, a big staff. I mean,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I liked Paul's point, which was, you know, I always
- 9:03Speaker 1: thought they had a small staff so that the message
- 9:05Speaker 1: wouldn't get muddled and it could be a direct line
- 9:07Speaker 1: from from Bbyond down. But there's been something missing, there's
- 9:10Speaker 1: been a disconnect, and now how do you re establish
- 9:14Speaker 1: those lines of trust with a bunch of new pieces
- 9:16Speaker 1: that then you're gonna have coming in. So, I mean,
- 9:17Speaker 1: I understand why they're bringing Judge back, but at some
- 9:19Speaker 1: point they're gonna have to get somebody who's gonna want
- 9:22Speaker 1: to stay for a little while or promote one of
- 9:23Speaker 1: these guys. And like we've said, you know, we always say,
- 9:26Speaker 1: you know, even Brady needed help, you know, so it
- 9:29Speaker 1: does Bill, And you know, you wonder, like what is
- 9:32Speaker 1: the structure with all these people leaving, who's doing what?
- 9:35Speaker 1: Who's really accountable for each little thing? And you know,
- 9:39Speaker 1: I keep thinking about, Okay, but they brought in Patricia
- 9:41Speaker 1: last year. You know, how much is Patricia actually able
- 9:46Speaker 1: and how much is Bill willing to take off his
- 9:48Speaker 1: plate and give it to Patricia? So like you know,
- 9:51Speaker 1: personnel and scouting, Like can Bill just really sit back
- 9:55Speaker 1: and give that all to Patricia? It's a good point,
- 9:57Speaker 1: so that all he's thinking about is football. Well, and again,
- 10:00Speaker 1: like Mike made the point earlier about Judges remaining contract
- 10:03Speaker 1: with the Giants, and Patricia was let go early from
- 10:05Speaker 1: his contract with the Lions too, so there might have
- 10:08Speaker 1: been something to the fact that he's senior football advisor
- 10:11Speaker 1: this past year. Maybe he has a different role this year, right,
- 10:14Speaker 1: you know, right, maybe it's on the coaching staff all
- 10:16Speaker 1: we know. I mean, I just would hate to find
- 10:19Speaker 1: out that that's the fact, Like where sort of sacrificing
- 10:25Speaker 1: coaching because of you know, money. Yeah, I would hate
- 10:28Speaker 1: to find out that that's the that's the reason, because
- 10:31Speaker 1: I do think it's not to me as much about
- 10:33Speaker 1: the amount of coaches, because I I've often argued with you, Fred,
- 10:36Speaker 1: I think there are a ton of guys that you
- 10:37Speaker 1: don't know who they are because they don't give them
- 10:39Speaker 1: titles that coach. Right, And the size of the Patriots
- 10:42Speaker 1: coaching staff is probably comparable to most others that there
- 10:46Speaker 1: are probably some that have a lot more. But what
- 10:49Speaker 1: has changed to me recently is the message and where
- 10:52Speaker 1: the message is coming from. That was Mike's point that
- 10:54Speaker 1: I thought he made. You know, I just all of
- 10:59Speaker 1: those comments from the offensive players last year resonated with me.
- 11:02Speaker 1: When you heard periodically about questions about the call and
- 11:08Speaker 1: maybe we weren't in the you know, we weren't in
- 11:09Speaker 1: the right situation there, And I just wonder if the
- 11:13Speaker 1: message was the problem, like where it was coming from,
- 11:15Speaker 1: who was giving it, and was everybody on the same page. Yeah,
- 11:19Speaker 1: you know, like I was talking to Ted Johnson the
- 11:22Speaker 1: other day because I was on one of my shows
- 11:25Speaker 1: on Sunday that I was actually on a Sunday morning
- 11:28Speaker 1: football show with Ted Johnson, and I asked him a
- 11:30Speaker 1: couple of questions about that. You know, you know, as
- 11:34Speaker 1: a defensive player, would you find it at all confusing
- 11:37Speaker 1: if there wasn't an established hierarchy? You know, I know
- 11:41Speaker 1: we don't know who the defensive coordinator is and we
- 11:43Speaker 1: don't need to know, but do you think that there's
- 11:46Speaker 1: a chance that the players don't exactly know who's in charge?
- 11:49Speaker 1: And he said they certainly played like it at times
- 11:51Speaker 1: last year, And he said after meetings, you know, after practice,
- 11:55Speaker 1: he goes what you need is after practice every day,
- 11:58Speaker 1: you know, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, whatever the day, you're getting
- 12:02Speaker 1: a message from somebody. And if that was the same
- 12:04Speaker 1: guy after every practice, then it's really not that big
- 12:07Speaker 1: of an issue because that's the guy who's in charge.
- 12:10Speaker 1: But he said he wondered if maybe, you know, one
- 12:13Speaker 1: guy was saying something after a practice and you know,
- 12:15Speaker 1: maybe Belichick was saying something, maybe Mayo was saying something else. Yeah. Yeah,
- 12:19Speaker 1: and even if it's Bill, right, if like during the
- 12:23Speaker 1: week and you know, Bill's the guy, but then you
- 12:27Speaker 1: hear Steve say something or Gerad saying something, and it's like, oh,
- 12:30Speaker 1: I don't really need to listen to him. It's really
- 12:32Speaker 1: only Bill. That's exactly what That's exactly what Ted said. Yeah.
- 12:36Speaker 1: You know, that's how you get the problems is you
- 12:38Speaker 1: decide who you're listening to and you and you're not
- 12:41Speaker 1: necessarily listening as closely to the other guys, right, and
- 12:45Speaker 1: that's when you could get miscommunication and not everybody on
- 12:48Speaker 1: the same page. Yeah. Yeah, I was just thinking back
- 12:51Speaker 1: to my old industry of how hard it is to
- 12:54Speaker 1: allow for the DGA to allow two people to direct
- 12:57Speaker 1: a film, and it usually only they allow its Director's
- 13:01Speaker 1: Guild of America. Okay, so you like, there's never co
- 13:03Speaker 1: directors of a movie really unless they're brothers. Yeah, But
- 13:09Speaker 1: I look at it similarly because I think a film
- 13:12Speaker 1: like that where you've got an army of people trying
- 13:13Speaker 1: to complish. I just I see it similarly where one vision,
- 13:17Speaker 1: one person. Some of the TV shows that I worked
- 13:18Speaker 1: on that were most successful one person, one vision. And
- 13:22Speaker 1: I think when you get into this area, like like
- 13:24Speaker 1: we've been talking about, where there's just not consistency and messaging.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I also like the personality of the defensive coordinator. I mean,
- 13:31Speaker 1: you know, like Robert Salo when he was with you know,
- 13:33Speaker 1: San Francisco. I mean it's kind of funny, but still
- 13:36Speaker 1: it doesn't like those guys. But but you know what
- 13:37Speaker 1: I mean, like there's guys like that. Even I would
- 13:39Speaker 1: throw Romeo Cornell in there. Not the same type, but
- 13:41Speaker 1: like had a personality and and maybe you know an essence. Yeah,
- 13:46Speaker 1: that's the guy in charge. You can watch the sideline.
- 13:49Speaker 1: You don't need to look at the media guide. That
- 13:51Speaker 1: guy is the one in charge, right, That's what I
- 13:53Speaker 1: wants what it lacks. And and then one more point
- 13:56Speaker 1: I just want to make that I've been thinking about
- 13:58Speaker 1: is with someone like Steve Belch, and I understand that
- 14:01Speaker 1: you know, he is got the crosshairs on him because
- 14:03Speaker 1: he's the son of Bill, and expectations and nepotism and
- 14:06Speaker 1: all those things that people want to talk about with him.
- 14:08Speaker 1: But you know, he obviously is a very experienced coach
- 14:11Speaker 1: at this point, and how long do you really give
- 14:13Speaker 1: a young defensive coordinator in training to make these kind
- 14:17Speaker 1: of mistakes where we got the wrong call there? You know,
- 14:19Speaker 1: like there has to be some kind of learning curve.
- 14:21Speaker 1: But I just I don't know if Steve Belichick's ever
- 14:23Speaker 1: going to get a fair shake here just because of
- 14:26Speaker 1: who he is and his dad. And you know, I
- 14:28Speaker 1: think when we talked about the best thing maybe for
- 14:30Speaker 1: him would be to go somewhere else and to have
- 14:31Speaker 1: success outside of this system. I just I have I
- 14:35Speaker 1: really wonder if people are going to accept him if
- 14:37Speaker 1: he were to become the defensive coordinator. And you know
- 14:39Speaker 1: how hard it is for people just to give him
- 14:42Speaker 1: a little bit of slack because he is you know, yes,
- 14:44Speaker 1: he is a Belichick, but he certainly has been around
- 14:46Speaker 1: this his whole life. He's grown up in it, just
- 14:48Speaker 1: like Bill did to an extent. So you know, there
- 14:51Speaker 1: is something there. I feel like, But I just I
- 14:52Speaker 1: feel like he's going to get a bad rap no
- 14:54Speaker 1: matter what. I don't think he's gonna get a chance,
- 14:57Speaker 1: and I guess, you know, there's the compass Shanahan, you know,
- 15:00Speaker 1: but like he went off on his own and and
- 15:03Speaker 1: did his own thing. Yeah, yeah, established his I mean,
- 15:06Speaker 1: and then did he ever work for his still? I
- 15:08Speaker 1: think briefly he did, didn't he? I don't, But in
- 15:11Speaker 1: general those guys have I think you're right, Yeah, I
- 15:13Speaker 1: think it. They might have gotten their start, but then
- 15:17Speaker 1: they have quality control guys and then they go side
- 15:20Speaker 1: and then they go somewhere right before I think the
- 15:22Speaker 1: Schottenheimer's did the same thing. Yeah, because you get into
- 15:25Speaker 1: this point where what if your son isn't performing, you know,
- 15:28Speaker 1: and then that adds another layer that people have talked
- 15:30Speaker 1: about here as well. But it's it's hard. I I
- 15:33Speaker 1: don't know how they're going to suss out Mayo and
- 15:35Speaker 1: Steve Belichick. I don't know how that breaks up unless
- 15:37Speaker 1: one and it doesn't look like it's going to change.
- 15:39Speaker 1: It doesn't look like those I thought the sort of
- 15:42Speaker 1: the wheels were turning from Mayo going somewhere yea, even
- 15:44Speaker 1: if it wasn't as a promotion just to go somewhere,
- 15:47Speaker 1: like do you flip one of them doesn't look like
- 15:48Speaker 1: the other side of the ball or to special teams
- 15:51Speaker 1: or you know, do you do you move one of them?
- 15:53Speaker 1: I don't and give one of them the job. Well,
- 15:55Speaker 1: I have a question for you guys, um related to
- 15:59Speaker 1: coaching and Joe Judge here that because I just saw
- 16:01Speaker 1: something on my show Freddie Yeah, on the sports is
- 16:05Speaker 1: it if you bring in a coordinator? Is that now
- 16:10Speaker 1: subject to the Rooney rule as well as head coach?
- 16:12Speaker 1: If you interview candidates for I don't know, coordinator job,
- 16:16Speaker 1: because they put something up there that suggesting, might Joe
- 16:21Speaker 1: Judges offensive assistant title be a way to circumvent the rule?
- 16:28Speaker 1: And I don't. I didn't. I wasn't aware time for that.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I don't. I don't either, I wasn't terrible time for it. Yeah, Um,
- 16:36Speaker 1: but I didn't think that coordinators were subject. I didn't. Yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 1: that's why I was. I was asking. I thought it
- 16:40Speaker 1: was head coaches and personnel like GM. Yeah. I think
- 16:45Speaker 1: I thought that's all it was for. I don't know
- 16:48Speaker 1: or at least how the language is written in the rule.
- 16:50Speaker 1: All right, So that's all there. And then, of course, uh,
- 16:52Speaker 1: the flake Gate Patriots. It's been proven now that the
- 16:56Speaker 1: league definitely screwed the Patriots. I mean we already knew
- 16:59Speaker 1: that either destroying stuff, releasing false stuff, leaking stuff. I mean,
- 17:06Speaker 1: so when the League was destroying stuff that was okay,
- 17:09Speaker 1: it wasn't. It wasn't because they were No. I mean,
- 17:14Speaker 1: you know, like you just and so. Can you blame
- 17:17Speaker 1: Tom Brady that he didn't want them to see his
- 17:20Speaker 1: cell phone with all this personal stuff on it? Can
- 17:22Speaker 1: you blame him? No? The way they behave No, No, No.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I I just always thought it was if only that
- 17:29Speaker 1: was the reason, A crazy glimpse behind the curtain with
- 17:32Speaker 1: some of the stuff that was put out by the
- 17:33Speaker 1: Patriots during that time of seeing like apoplectic Stacy James
- 17:37Speaker 1: emails to the League of like, you know, I thought
- 17:40Speaker 1: that to me, that was like some of the most
- 17:42Speaker 1: impactful stuff to just see how they're like, why would
- 17:45Speaker 1: you allow this to stand? Why? You know? So I
- 17:48Speaker 1: I just think the report came out immediate almost immediately, yeah,
- 17:52Speaker 1: like the next week and then Mortenson remember how Mortenson
- 17:56Speaker 1: refused to sort of but the report came out that
- 17:58Speaker 1: that that was the ultimate report, the eleven out of
- 18:01Speaker 1: twelve balls were grossly underinflated, right, And that was shot
- 18:05Speaker 1: down like immediately it wasn't. Yeah, it was. It was
- 18:08Speaker 1: months later. It was months later that Mortensen offered a retraction.
- 18:13Speaker 1: It was it was actually four months later, I believe,
- 18:15Speaker 1: yea before he did. But that report was immediately called
- 18:20Speaker 1: like a week later, called into question, well called in
- 18:22Speaker 1: the question. But the league, No, it was refuted the league.
- 18:25Speaker 1: The league is very quick to refute things that helped them,
- 18:28Speaker 1: but they did not refute that. The league. The league
- 18:31Speaker 1: is the one that league. No. I just don't think
- 18:32Speaker 1: there was really anything I thought yesterday was much ado about. No.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I don't the fact that they said, well, we're going
- 18:38Speaker 1: to do a year long study here, and then they
- 18:41Speaker 1: do the study, the study proves the Patriots contention, and
- 18:45Speaker 1: they they get rid of all that evidence. Yeah, I
- 18:48Speaker 1: just feel like, what was that. I feel exactly the
- 18:50Speaker 1: same way I did at the time. I think the
- 18:52Speaker 1: punishment and all the stuff that went along with it
- 18:56Speaker 1: was absurd. I thought I thought that then. I don't
- 18:59Speaker 1: think any differently of it today. Yeah. I also think
- 19:02Speaker 1: that they did it well did what underinflated balls? They
- 19:05Speaker 1: had it. I think they had a system in place
- 19:08Speaker 1: to doctor the balls. Yeah, I think I don't. I
- 19:11Speaker 1: don't think that they proved it. That's that's where I
- 19:13Speaker 1: would step back. I think what they did is they
- 19:16Speaker 1: took air out of balls to get it down to
- 19:18Speaker 1: the legal limit. Now you could say you're not supposed
- 19:21Speaker 1: to do that either, you know, I just said doctored balls. Yeah,
- 19:25Speaker 1: and I think they did it on a consistent basis
- 19:27Speaker 1: based on those But you know, everyone change, Everyone talks
- 19:30Speaker 1: about those text change, But in those text change was
- 19:33Speaker 1: also Brady saying to them, if you have to bring
- 19:35Speaker 1: in the rule book, bring it in to show them
- 19:38Speaker 1: that we can bring it down to twelve point five.
- 19:41Speaker 1: And nobody talks about that. You know, that's all he wanted.
- 19:45Speaker 1: He wanted it down to the lowest limit, and you
- 19:48Speaker 1: know they would the rest would puff it back down
- 19:51Speaker 1: against the Jets, right, That's what That's when he went
- 19:54Speaker 1: ballistic because it was up to thirteen point five or whatever.
- 19:57Speaker 1: His guys got mad at them for yelling at them whatever.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I think, Yeah, they probably did. That's what they said,
- 20:03Speaker 1: he'll be throwing medicine balls. Yeah, you know, so I
- 20:07Speaker 1: don't really want to get into that. I think I like,
- 20:09Speaker 1: I like I said, I said it at the time,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and I'll say it now. It was the most ridiculous,
- 20:14Speaker 1: overblown story ever in The punishment was absurd. The punishment
- 20:20Speaker 1: was absolutely absurd. He did not deserve to get suspended
- 20:23Speaker 1: at all, and the Patriots didn't deserve to lose what
- 20:26Speaker 1: they lost in terms of draft picks. But freaking league,
- 20:31Speaker 1: and and what happened early on, and some of this
- 20:34Speaker 1: is the Patriot's fault too. People like on both sides,
- 20:38Speaker 1: the league and the Patriots dug their heels and it
- 20:40Speaker 1: became such an ego thing. That's why you became such
- 20:44Speaker 1: an ego thing. Yeah, it's so weird that the NFL's
- 20:48Speaker 1: relationship with its teams with the media. It's I can't
- 20:52Speaker 1: think of anything else like it in any avenue of
- 20:55Speaker 1: life of how the NFL r if you ever in
- 20:59Speaker 1: all seriousness, and I know that there's a lot of
- 21:01Speaker 1: corporate you know, uh, missteps in all walks of life,
- 21:05Speaker 1: but I can't imagine that an organization that's as successful
- 21:09Speaker 1: as the NFL that makes consistently more mistakes in the
- 21:14Speaker 1: pr realm, Like right down to this Brian Flores lawsuit
- 21:20Speaker 1: that within two hours they put out a statement saying
- 21:24Speaker 1: it's without merit. Right then the next day they admit
- 21:29Speaker 1: we're gonna look into this throwing of the games. Then
- 21:31Speaker 1: two days later it's like this grandiose statement from Roger
- 21:34Speaker 1: Goodell about the hiring practices and we need to look
- 21:37Speaker 1: into discrimination. I get an idea, hop about instead of
- 21:40Speaker 1: saying just knee jerk, yeah, it's without merit, maybe do
- 21:44Speaker 1: a little research and find out. I mean, for you know,
- 21:47Speaker 1: p salient balls, we're gonna have a wells rapport. This
- 21:50Speaker 1: has no merit, right holy Cross Grad's head. But now
- 21:55Speaker 1: it's going to be you know, you're gonna get I
- 21:58Speaker 1: don't know if they'll divulge all the information. Look what
- 22:00Speaker 1: happened with Washington, There'll be enough. Haven't let those all
- 22:04Speaker 1: of that investigation be public. No, nothing will come out
- 22:08Speaker 1: that will be harmful to any owner. Do you think
- 22:11Speaker 1: that's a great point and that do you think, like
- 22:13Speaker 1: I everyone always hates Roger Goodell, and I'm like, it
- 22:16Speaker 1: doesn't matter. He's just the figurehead guy who gets gets
- 22:20Speaker 1: paid a ton of money to take all the arrows.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I don't think anybody's gonna like do that job. You
- 22:24Speaker 1: think he's doing a great I don't mind that. I
- 22:26Speaker 1: don't mind that he takes the arrows he's just so
- 22:28Speaker 1: smug and arrogant while doing it, like you would think
- 22:31Speaker 1: you would just step back a little bit and say,
- 22:34Speaker 1: all right, I gotta take I gotta be the public
- 22:36Speaker 1: face of this, you know, I gotta I gotta eat
- 22:39Speaker 1: a little humble poss no self awareness ever, not just
- 22:41Speaker 1: gun right ahead without I mean, how could anyone say
- 22:47Speaker 1: that two hours later? Right? Right? But then, just like
- 22:50Speaker 1: the relationship between the owners and the league, and they
- 22:53Speaker 1: run it, but they the owners are the league, and
- 22:56Speaker 1: the owners are the league. They are what they want happen.
- 22:59Speaker 1: It's not Roger. I'm like, let's do it this way.
- 23:01Speaker 1: They do a lot of things wrong, and yeah, because
- 23:06Speaker 1: they have right, all right, it's the product on the field.
- 23:09Speaker 1: People love that game so much because you have the
- 23:11Speaker 1: last six games that went down to the last player
- 23:14Speaker 1: of the game, and we're all riveted exactly. Yeah, if
- 23:17Speaker 1: they didn't have that, then they'd be totally screwed, all right.
- 23:20Speaker 1: And then of course, you know, I know you guys
- 23:22Speaker 1: probably talked about it at link with Tom Brady last week,
- 23:26Speaker 1: and you know, I don't think he didn't mention the page,
- 23:29Speaker 1: like don't talked about it. Yeah, but you know, since then,
- 23:34Speaker 1: stuff has come out. He's you know and everything like that.
- 23:36Speaker 1: But I thought it was interesting his comments um just
- 23:40Speaker 1: the other day about he's never never say never last yeah,
- 23:44Speaker 1: about playing again. So that's what I said Eric today,
- 23:49Speaker 1: I look America, I'm like Eric everready in this season.
- 23:51Speaker 1: So Mac got a bad game last week, maybe they'd
- 23:55Speaker 1: be the one day not even I don't think he'll
- 24:00Speaker 1: ever play for the Patriots, But what are the chances
- 24:05Speaker 1: the Patriots convinced him Brady to come back and play
- 24:07Speaker 1: the rest of the season and win It's Super Bowl.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, I genally when retire, I'm always
- 24:13Speaker 1: you know, he's retired. Like, no, I don't think he's
- 24:15Speaker 1: playing this year right Based on that comment, he struck
- 24:19Speaker 1: me as a guy that didn't want to retire, is
- 24:22Speaker 1: only doing it to a piece his wife. Yeah, and
- 24:26Speaker 1: maybe four or five months go by and maybe his
- 24:29Speaker 1: wife says, you know what, he's not that happy or
- 24:32Speaker 1: I'm not happy with him. I'm not that happy. Why
- 24:35Speaker 1: don't you play? If you want to play, go play
- 24:37Speaker 1: your little game. I think he's holding the door open
- 24:39Speaker 1: for San Francisco. I think he's something. I think so.
- 24:42Speaker 1: I think because Jimmy's already said I expect to get trade.
- 24:45Speaker 1: He's gonna get traded. Yeah, there's gonna be a ton
- 24:47Speaker 1: of quarterbacks, so we're gonna have to go through this
- 24:49Speaker 1: whole time. I think again always, oh, really educated they come,
- 24:56Speaker 1: you know. I think that's the best way to put it.
- 24:58Speaker 1: And I don't think anything never. You know, you never
- 25:01Speaker 1: say never, And you know, at the same time, I
- 25:05Speaker 1: know that I'm very I feel very good about my decision.
- 25:08Speaker 1: So I don't know it feels six months from now. Oh,
- 25:12Speaker 1: how's that out of Yeah, it's I don't think it's
- 25:14Speaker 1: out of content. I think he's saying what he's saying.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I think a guy who just retired and that's never
- 25:19Speaker 1: say never's overblown. No, no, yeah, I mean I heard it.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I disagree with you a little bit, Matt. I love
- 25:25Speaker 1: the fact that you got the sound in though, so
- 25:28Speaker 1: we can hear him play this is kind of what
- 25:29Speaker 1: I was talking. That was my homework, Thanks mattum action,
- 25:34Speaker 1: so we can actually hear his context and sort of.
- 25:37Speaker 1: And like I said, I disagree with Matt a little bit.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I think it's a very easy answer to someone who
- 25:42Speaker 1: just retired six days before. Yeah, to say no, I'm retired.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I'm retired. My playing days are behind. I think he's
- 25:48Speaker 1: telling you, didn't say that. He's telling you, Yeah, I'm
- 25:51Speaker 1: happy with my decision. But no, I'm never gonna say never. Like,
- 25:55Speaker 1: what do you have to be the one guy who
- 25:57Speaker 1: won't be proven a liar by saying that you tired?
- 26:00Speaker 1: If you decided to change your mind, we'll go ask Gronk. Right,
- 26:02Speaker 1: we start Gronk through the whole pony show of he's
- 26:06Speaker 1: a whole I just know Brady is gonna be driving
- 26:09Speaker 1: everybody not at home, So he's gonna be like challenging
- 26:12Speaker 1: Vivy to like games a candy lander. No no more, Dad,
- 26:16Speaker 1: imagine like losing, losing right in her face. Oh no,
- 26:21Speaker 1: I do I think he's coming back? No, I don't.
- 26:24Speaker 1: I think he's retired. But I think that answer rightly
- 26:28Speaker 1: will lead to speculation. And I think if there's a
- 26:31Speaker 1: situation that comes up, say in July, like I think
- 26:35Speaker 1: that might be what he's looking for. His superstar team
- 26:37Speaker 1: loses their quarterback to or can I keep playing but
- 26:42Speaker 1: not do all that stuff? Yeah? Oh you know, and
- 26:45Speaker 1: I know that that runs counter to him, but maybe
- 26:48Speaker 1: he kind of like Carr and OTAs, But that does Like,
- 26:56Speaker 1: I don't think he would just hop on a team
- 26:58Speaker 1: who is, you know, in a crisis because their quarterback
- 27:01Speaker 1: got hurt or whatever and just to get out there.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I think I think he wants You don't think he
- 27:05Speaker 1: wants wants to be that that savior. Yeah, but I
- 27:07Speaker 1: don't I think he I think he would understand that. Yes, yes, yeah,
- 27:12Speaker 1: I don't think he knows how hard it is. Yeah, Like,
- 27:14Speaker 1: but I but I could see it. The San Francisco
- 27:16Speaker 1: forty nine ers said to him, We're gonna throw you
- 27:19Speaker 1: thirty million dollars. Come play for a year. This kid
- 27:23Speaker 1: will watch you. Because he's not ready yet. He might
- 27:27Speaker 1: do it with Tampa let him go. Well that's the
- 27:29Speaker 1: other thing, you know, they're in the same conference and yeah, yeah,
- 27:35Speaker 1: so it's complicated. But I'm with Paul. I think at
- 27:39Speaker 1: the end of the day, we've seen the last of him. Yeah,
- 27:41Speaker 1: I think he's probably retired. I agree with Matt that.
- 27:43Speaker 1: You know, he did say, you know, I'm happy with
- 27:46Speaker 1: my decision, right, you know, I listened to the whole thing.
- 27:49Speaker 1: But I just don't know why you would need to say,
- 27:51Speaker 1: you know, the door never say never leaving the door open.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I didn't even need to hear that just to know
- 27:56Speaker 1: it'll be eating him up because of how competitive he is.
- 27:58Speaker 1: And I mean, you don't play this long in this
- 28:00Speaker 1: league without him be able to just put it down
- 28:02Speaker 1: and step asidebody days you think he's gonna make waffles.
- 28:05Speaker 1: So enough, But here's the thing you say that, like,
- 28:11Speaker 1: he would have no interest in coming back here. I
- 28:14Speaker 1: wouldn't put it past Robert Craft to be able to
- 28:17Speaker 1: convince him to do it. He's the ultimate bridge builder,
- 28:20Speaker 1: and now Bill would probably be helped against. What do
- 28:23Speaker 1: you do with Mac? Yeah, well Mac Max sits and
- 28:26Speaker 1: watches for a year and you think that's good. Why
- 28:28Speaker 1: not then you don't think he's as good as you've
- 28:30Speaker 1: been telling It's not as good as Tom Brady. The
- 28:33Speaker 1: only scenario where I could see that Mac, I don't
- 28:35Speaker 1: think Max good. Once again his position. Let's let's let's
- 28:43Speaker 1: say that over the next year they start adding pieces
- 28:46Speaker 1: and for you know, they become a legitimate playoff in
- 28:49Speaker 1: Super Bowder again. No, in reality, the season starts, season
- 28:53Speaker 1: has started, okay, and they're like, let's say they're ten
- 28:57Speaker 1: and two and all of a sudden, Mac goes down
- 29:00Speaker 1: and he's lost for the season. Bring him in right,
- 29:02Speaker 1: and then like maybe maybe Robert picks up the phone
- 29:06Speaker 1: and says, hey, Tom, we got a chance to do
- 29:09Speaker 1: something here. And he says, that's different. Now a hero. Yeah,
- 29:12Speaker 1: I've got ten games or seven games, whatever, All right,
- 29:15Speaker 1: I'll come back. Sign me, yeah, sign And now we
- 29:19Speaker 1: have to hope that Mac gets hurt and the Patriots
- 29:20Speaker 1: are good. See again, I mean I can have that
- 29:24Speaker 1: clip played back for the again. You do not think
- 29:27Speaker 1: your quarterback is as good as Tom Brady, No as
- 29:29Speaker 1: you tell me that you think he is. No, I
- 29:31Speaker 1: think he's good. I said many men. Why would you
- 29:34Speaker 1: hope for him to get hurt so you could get
- 29:35Speaker 1: Brady back? You said, now we have to hope. I
- 29:40Speaker 1: was joking, Andy Hart. I know you're joking. I understand that.
- 29:43Speaker 1: What my point is, you shouldn't want Brady back if
- 29:48Speaker 1: you think Mac is as good as you say that
- 29:49Speaker 1: you think he is. I don't know. I just because
- 29:53Speaker 1: right this second he's not as good as is Brady
- 29:56Speaker 1: doesn't mean Brady you don't want him to play more
- 29:59Speaker 1: experienced one more year with Tom. I don't. I don't
- 30:02Speaker 1: care who my cord we haven't even talked about the
- 30:05Speaker 1: crap The crap sheet, I guess has a report out
- 30:09Speaker 1: Ian Rappaport the Patriots may not hire an offensive coordinator
- 30:12Speaker 1: this edition gives them added leadership, I guess is something
- 30:15Speaker 1: that he may have Joe Judge out. Yeah, I don't know.
- 30:20Speaker 1: I don't like it. Yeah, and not Judge in particular,
- 30:24Speaker 1: although I don't like that either, But that's that's beside
- 30:26Speaker 1: the point. That's just a personal thing for me. I
- 30:29Speaker 1: don't like the idea of not hiring an offensive coordinator.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Yeah I don't. I don't either. I I really don't either.
- 30:35Speaker 1: But the question is, who then is our offensive coordinat
- 30:38Speaker 1: if and if Joe Judges the facto coordinator, has they
- 30:44Speaker 1: have a call plays? I don't know. I don't believe so.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I don't know because I don't think that because he
- 30:49Speaker 1: had Jason Garrett as his OC for most of the
- 30:51Speaker 1: time there right right until they goted it half half
- 30:54Speaker 1: of the season last year, and he didn't want them.
- 30:56Speaker 1: And who was the one before that voisted upon him?
- 30:58Speaker 1: He must have had somebody the year before, but I
- 31:00Speaker 1: don't recall. No, but whatever, they weren't good at it.
- 31:05Speaker 1: The Giants offense was not good either way. It's something
- 31:09Speaker 1: new I just and it just goes back to dividing
- 31:12Speaker 1: it up. Do you have somebody who can take over?
- 31:13Speaker 1: Can Joe Judge? I got Mac in the offense? You
- 31:16Speaker 1: guys go worry about the d like it's it's it's
- 31:18Speaker 1: hard not to see Bill being spread too. That's the
- 31:20Speaker 1: thing to me. How much does Bill actually have to do? Right?
- 31:24Speaker 1: That's what worries me now, Like if Joe Judge titled
- 31:27Speaker 1: or no is is Bill's confident with him taken over
- 31:31Speaker 1: the offense, great, but he's gotta let him do that right,
- 31:34Speaker 1: you know. See if I were Bill, well, the way
- 31:39Speaker 1: I look at it. Do you remember back in the
- 31:42Speaker 1: late eighties early nineties, when Florida State was like perennially,
- 31:46Speaker 1: you know, in the top five and competing for national championships.
- 31:49Speaker 1: There was a point there where Bobby Bowden was starting
- 31:52Speaker 1: to get towards the end there and he barely lifted
- 31:54Speaker 1: a finger. By all accounts from people who covered the
- 31:58Speaker 1: seminoles back then, he was the figurehead of the school
- 32:02Speaker 1: and the and the program, and he let all of
- 32:05Speaker 1: his assistants do pretty much everything. He would kind of
- 32:08Speaker 1: have like this perch over. Yeah, the guys like that.
- 32:12Speaker 1: He would have this kind of perch overlooking the practice
- 32:14Speaker 1: field and he would sort of watch and if he
- 32:17Speaker 1: had to chime in on something, he would, but he
- 32:19Speaker 1: would let his assistance run the show. And you know,
- 32:23Speaker 1: on game day he'd stand there on the sideline. He'd
- 32:25Speaker 1: make you know, if he calls in there and do
- 32:26Speaker 1: some things. But he was at the point in his
- 32:28Speaker 1: life and in his career where he felt like, I'm
- 32:31Speaker 1: sort of taking a step back here, and I'm you know,
- 32:34Speaker 1: easing up on things, and I trust my assistance to
- 32:37Speaker 1: do the work that's needed. I'm just the figurehead. I
- 32:40Speaker 1: would have assumed five ten years ago that by this
- 32:43Speaker 1: point Bill would be in such a position that he'd
- 32:46Speaker 1: be able to do that, he'd be able to sort
- 32:47Speaker 1: of step back and say, I have enough confidence in
- 32:49Speaker 1: my underlinks here that they can do the job. They
- 32:52Speaker 1: don't need me to be involved in every little bit
- 32:54Speaker 1: of minutia every day. And it's a little surprising to
- 32:57Speaker 1: me that at this late stage in Bill's career he
- 32:59Speaker 1: still having to be involved and do this thing, or
- 33:02Speaker 1: maybe wants to be involved and do that kind I mean,
- 33:05Speaker 1: if you're Robert Kraft. Do you pay Bill Belichick to
- 33:08Speaker 1: step back? You know, you want him involved, But on
- 33:14Speaker 1: the other hand, you don't want him spread too thin,
- 33:16Speaker 1: you know. So that's the thing, you know, it's it's
- 33:19Speaker 1: a balance there. You know, you don't pay Bill Belichick
- 33:22Speaker 1: to just kind of walk no. No. But but my
- 33:24Speaker 1: point is, like Bobby Bowden could have, like if you
- 33:26Speaker 1: saw something on defense, he'd go over there. I saw
- 33:28Speaker 1: something on special teams, he'd go over there. If Bill
- 33:30Speaker 1: is like in charge of the defense, we saw it
- 33:32Speaker 1: plenty of times where like the offense is running around
- 33:34Speaker 1: and and he's on the sideline completely faced the opposite way,
- 33:37Speaker 1: writing on a grease board, talking to his guys, no idea,
- 33:40Speaker 1: what's going on over there. He should be able to
- 33:42Speaker 1: know what's going on at all times with all aspects,
- 33:44Speaker 1: especially during the game, especially and in practice. Like I
- 33:47Speaker 1: think Bill has said it, like just a few years ago.
- 33:50Speaker 1: I love it because I can do whatever I want. Sure,
- 33:52Speaker 1: he can go like kind of like you know, but
- 33:54Speaker 1: in a game when it really counts, like he's not
- 33:57Speaker 1: paying attention to like right half of the game, right,
- 34:00Speaker 1: And I do you want that if you're paying him
- 34:02Speaker 1: all that? You know what I mean like he should be.
- 34:04Speaker 1: I mean, and we did see that a lot, and
- 34:07Speaker 1: so something in Bill told him, I need to go
- 34:10Speaker 1: over to the defense and make sure they know what
- 34:12Speaker 1: to do. And you can interpret that. I don't trust
- 34:16Speaker 1: whoever else to do that, Like I need to go
- 34:19Speaker 1: over there, you know, because I can't trust that Gerard
- 34:21Speaker 1: or Steve or saying what I need I think needs
- 34:24Speaker 1: to be said here, you know. So and I you know,
- 34:28Speaker 1: I could be you know, speculating and being totally wrong,
- 34:31Speaker 1: but that's the way it looked. It's like I gotta
- 34:33Speaker 1: be over there. Yeah, you know, it's urgent. Yeah, right,
- 34:36Speaker 1: And that to me is a little bit of a
- 34:38Speaker 1: concern at this point, right, And it's just it's coincided
- 34:40Speaker 1: with a lot of these coaches departing guys like Dante Scarnekia,
- 34:44Speaker 1: you know, trusted voices who maybe not aren't running whole units,
- 34:47Speaker 1: but are certainly capable like he does, yeh, Scar And
- 34:52Speaker 1: didn't need Bill looking over his shoulder to coaching the
- 34:55Speaker 1: old line, okay, you know what I mean? Like, yeah,
- 34:57Speaker 1: just I mean, and you know, and I don't know
- 34:58Speaker 1: how like teams in the NF I'll do it or
- 35:00Speaker 1: even this team. But I wonder if there's a balance.
- 35:03Speaker 1: The younger your team, the older your coaches need to be,
- 35:06Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like if everyone's young, that's
- 35:08Speaker 1: not good. Yeah, you know, I don't know. I don't know.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I mean, since he's a young team with a young coach,
- 35:15Speaker 1: and LA has a young head coach, but that's an
- 35:18Speaker 1: old team. But it's an older team. Yeah, so there
- 35:21Speaker 1: you go. I mean, I don't know what their average ages,
- 35:24Speaker 1: but they have a lot of veterans that they've traded for. Yeah. Yeah,
- 35:26Speaker 1: I just would Stafford Miller, back Backham, Jalen Ramsay, guys
- 35:32Speaker 1: that were already established in the NFL, and they got
- 35:35Speaker 1: traded for OBJ, who, by the way, said he was
- 35:37Speaker 1: very very very very close to being a paid four
- 35:40Speaker 1: I believe it was four veterans, right, And then for
- 35:43Speaker 1: me this morning also said that about the Saints. Oh really,
- 35:46Speaker 1: then it was close. I don't know how many varies.
- 35:47Speaker 1: I don't know we had four variers though. I did
- 35:49Speaker 1: read into that though, because he said something something along
- 35:54Speaker 1: the lines of, yes, if Brady was years ago, if
- 35:56Speaker 1: Brady were here, I'd just signed, right, that's why. And
- 35:59Speaker 1: then they said, you know, I would have been honored
- 36:00Speaker 1: to play, you know, for Bill, but it was really
- 36:03Speaker 1: Brady who was the deciding factory. I'm like, I'm like, ah,
- 36:07Speaker 1: they reached out to me, but they're not what they
- 36:09Speaker 1: used to be, right. I went to the team that's
- 36:11Speaker 1: a super Bowl and I know that everyone said, like
- 36:13Speaker 1: Obj has been great in the LA and I still
- 36:16Speaker 1: don't trust him. I don't got that one too, Matt.
- 36:19Speaker 1: I don't very, very, very very I don't trust Ob
- 36:26Speaker 1: j you know, like things are good right now? Yes,
- 36:29Speaker 1: you know, and like even after that last game, who
- 36:31Speaker 1: was I forget the quarterback? He went over to console afterwards,
- 36:34Speaker 1: he um, after the game, Uh, Jimmy Jimmy. No, No,
- 36:40Speaker 1: so it was the game before that? Then? No, who's
- 36:46Speaker 1: ob j oh No, it was the wide receiver. Yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 1: he comes after having a strong show and makes this
- 36:55Speaker 1: job teas this big show of consoling Deebo Samuel even
- 36:58Speaker 1: that I don't trust you'll get there, but I don't
- 37:00Speaker 1: trust the motivation there. Like, was that for Deebo Samuel?
- 37:04Speaker 1: Was that for me? Well, I think there's a lot.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I agree with you. I think there's a lot of
- 37:07Speaker 1: that in those kinds of things. Yeah, I will say
- 37:11Speaker 1: in full maya culpa mode. I was wrong about Odell
- 37:15Speaker 1: Beckham um in someone. You know, we were talking about
- 37:18Speaker 1: this on Twitter the other day with someone and he
- 37:21Speaker 1: agreed with me at the time, and we you know,
- 37:23Speaker 1: we were wrong. He's made an impact, oh yeah, for
- 37:26Speaker 1: the Rams. I didn't think he would. I thought Bobby Trees.
- 37:29Speaker 1: I thought, yeah, I mean, it'd be interesting if Bobby
- 37:31Speaker 1: Trees didn't get hurt what he would be doing, and
- 37:33Speaker 1: if that lesser role that he would have would have
- 37:37Speaker 1: caused a problem. But that wasn't an issue here. Yeah,
- 37:40Speaker 1: because he would have come here and been the he'd
- 37:42Speaker 1: been the guy. It'd have been the guy. So I
- 37:44Speaker 1: didn't think he had this kind of production in him
- 37:47Speaker 1: at this stage. I thought the injuries had taken a toll.
- 37:50Speaker 1: I mean not saying I thought he was overrated. I
- 37:52Speaker 1: don't think he was overrated. I think he was a
- 37:53Speaker 1: great player. I just thought that the injuries had slowed
- 37:56Speaker 1: him down a little bit. I was wrong, Yeah, I
- 37:58Speaker 1: mean production was absolutely But I'm just talking about the
- 38:00Speaker 1: other things, you know, like when things don't go well,
- 38:03Speaker 1: who is he? I still don't trust that, I you know,
- 38:07Speaker 1: is he still under contract for another year with the
- 38:09Speaker 1: Rams orus this it. I thought it was a one
- 38:11Speaker 1: year Yeah, it was a one year deal. I wouldn't
- 38:14Speaker 1: take him back. No, especially after you said maybe if
- 38:17Speaker 1: Brady was there, well he might be shows you with
- 38:21Speaker 1: his true feelings, you know. Yeah. Well that's why I'm
- 38:25Speaker 1: like easy on the varries, like were you really considering
- 38:28Speaker 1: it or did they just reach out very very He's
- 38:31Speaker 1: like the pen got like an inch to that. No,
- 38:32Speaker 1: I can't do it. I'm gonna go to the Ram. Yeah,
- 38:34Speaker 1: he's he's a free agent. And by the way, he
- 38:37Speaker 1: didn't get anything from the Rams. Now it's like a
- 38:39Speaker 1: million bucks, so it's not like, you know, the Patriots said, yeah,
- 38:42Speaker 1: we'll take you for the minimum. He's like, no, no,
- 38:46Speaker 1: But all things being even if both teams are giving
- 38:49Speaker 1: me a million bucks, I'll go with the Rams, you know,
- 38:52Speaker 1: because they're close closer, Right, I'm just saying, it's not
- 38:54Speaker 1: like the Rams, you know, outbid everybody. Yeah, they didn't
- 38:56Speaker 1: pay anything for but they're more settled teams. Absolutely, all right,
- 39:00Speaker 1: all a lot of stuff on the table. Five pats
- 39:03Speaker 1: five hundred is the ace ticket hut Line web radio
- 39:06Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com. Um did I miss anything? Well,
- 39:10Speaker 1: the pro Bowl. We kind of glanced over Mac and
- 39:13Speaker 1: I don't know if you caught any of it other
- 39:15Speaker 1: than the Mac um Yeah, but it was just I
- 39:19Speaker 1: had to google what gritty. Yeah. I wasn't planning on
- 39:22Speaker 1: watching it. My dad wanted to see Mac play a
- 39:24Speaker 1: little bit, so we turned it on at the start
- 39:26Speaker 1: of the game. And I knew Mac wasn't gonna be
- 39:28Speaker 1: the starter, but we turned it on and the first
- 39:31Speaker 1: ten minutes I'm like, this is this is atrocious. Yeah.
- 39:34Speaker 1: I mean, if I were a paying fan, I would
- 39:38Speaker 1: have gone to the ticket office immediately and demanded a refund.
- 39:41Speaker 1: I mean, this is just a bunch of clown guys
- 39:43Speaker 1: clowning around like it's less than a walkthrough. I mean,
- 39:46Speaker 1: I've seen more competitive flag football games. Yeah. Everyone, I know,
- 39:49Speaker 1: it was horrendous. Everyone the same thing. Everyone had the
- 39:52Speaker 1: same reaction. I was like, my wife was like, why
- 39:53Speaker 1: are you laughing so hard right now? I'm like, this
- 39:55Speaker 1: is a joke right now. I don't even know if
- 39:57Speaker 1: they're playing two hand in touch or like kind of
- 39:59Speaker 1: wrapp The reps were in on it, because they were
- 40:01Speaker 1: blowing the whistle immediately. They were I tell you, I mean,
- 40:05Speaker 1: like on the risk knew what was going on because
- 40:07Speaker 1: as soon as the guy would make contact, they did,
- 40:09Speaker 1: they come rushing in to set the ball down, and
- 40:12Speaker 1: like it's like they knew going in that this was
- 40:13Speaker 1: gonna be as as you know, I did not watch
- 40:17Speaker 1: and have not watched UM in fifteen plus years, So
- 40:21Speaker 1: I do have a quick que I will tell that story. Second,
- 40:24Speaker 1: I just a quick question to those that that did
- 40:26Speaker 1: watch and do watch on a semi regular basis to
- 40:30Speaker 1: the Pro Bowl, like was this a march departure? Like, yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 1: even wat was it even worse? Because I remember the
- 40:39Speaker 1: whole You know that the infamous Sean Taylor lighting up
- 40:41Speaker 1: the poor punter Brian Morman. Yeah, um, when, by the way,
- 40:45Speaker 1: Belichick called a fake punt in the Pro Bowl, got
- 40:48Speaker 1: a punter absolutely killed. Um hit to the head. That
- 40:51Speaker 1: would have been a pounter. That hit stood out so
- 40:54Speaker 1: much because it was in a Pro Bowl, right, because
- 40:56Speaker 1: you don't hit like that in a Pro Bowl. So
- 40:58Speaker 1: that had a punter that was a long time ago. Yeah,
- 41:01Speaker 1: So I'm wondering if this was just sort of a
- 41:04Speaker 1: continuation of what's been happening with the Pro Bowl. I
- 41:07Speaker 1: don't watch, so I don't have anything to compare it
- 41:09Speaker 1: to but what Deuce is laughing at is Beth. And
- 41:13Speaker 1: now you're just like watching Succession Sunday night. We're watching
- 41:17Speaker 1: that instead of the Pro Bowl. And Beth is on
- 41:19Speaker 1: her phone and just scroll and she's like, oh, Mac
- 41:22Speaker 1: ran sixty five yards for a touchdown. And I said, no,
- 41:26Speaker 1: he didn't. I hadn't. I hadn't seen anything. I had
- 41:29Speaker 1: no idea what was going on. Yeah, And she's like, well,
- 41:32Speaker 1: what do you mean it's right here? I said, there's
- 41:34Speaker 1: no way under any kind of live circumstance Mac Jones
- 41:37Speaker 1: ran sixty five yards for a touchdown. It just it
- 41:40Speaker 1: can't happen unless everyone fell down last, right, or it
- 41:42Speaker 1: was like one of those things where you have like
- 41:44Speaker 1: a young kid and everybody like And then she's like
- 41:47Speaker 1: talking to me about the Pro Bowl dance and everything.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I go, that's justin jeffer That that's the gritty. That's
- 41:52Speaker 1: justin Jeffersons dance. I don't know what it means, but
- 41:54Speaker 1: that's what they call it, the gritty. And she's just like,
- 41:59Speaker 1: how do you know, let me see. I go, yeah,
- 42:02Speaker 1: see right here, the referee running over Like I said,
- 42:06Speaker 1: that was about a four yard run right, I said
- 42:08Speaker 1: the rest of it. Everybody stopped. She's like, uh, yeah,
- 42:11Speaker 1: you're right. I go, yeah, he's not capable of running
- 42:13Speaker 1: sixty five yards with NFL players chasing him right and
- 42:17Speaker 1: winning the race. I had to google gritty. I didn't
- 42:19Speaker 1: know what that. Man. I knew the Justin Jefferson dance
- 42:21Speaker 1: when my kid was doing, but I'm like, what is
- 42:23Speaker 1: the gritty Everyone was telling the gritty the Gritty degree.
- 42:25Speaker 1: I didn't know that was the name of the dance. Well,
- 42:27Speaker 1: that's what they call it on the highlights all the time.
- 42:29Speaker 1: But I don't, you know, I don't know where. I
- 42:30Speaker 1: don't know where it came from. I don't know what
- 42:32Speaker 1: it means. I can't do it. I can't dance. You
- 42:35Speaker 1: have your own dance, you know. Good for Mac to
- 42:37Speaker 1: get that experience and get out there. And that was
- 42:39Speaker 1: a cool away. He won the skill Squad, he won
- 42:43Speaker 1: the accuracy Um. Yeah, he had an interception when he
- 42:46Speaker 1: won the thread the Needle he s yeah, the accuracy
- 42:49Speaker 1: Russell Wilson put on a display. Um. But that stuff
- 42:53Speaker 1: was fun. It was just cool. I like that was
- 42:57Speaker 1: They were all very cold that and I think it
- 42:58Speaker 1: was Thursday night. Yeah, yeah, it was very cold. The
- 43:01Speaker 1: announcers had like the puffy coats on, like it was
- 43:05Speaker 1: that cold desert cool. Yeah, night, it gets cold to night.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Back on watching Mac get to just interact with all
- 43:10Speaker 1: those NFL stars and and just to see him in
- 43:13Speaker 1: that position, and it's just a nice cap for a season,
- 43:15Speaker 1: little chill. I enjoyed some of the skill stuff. I
- 43:20Speaker 1: watched the accuracy, and I watched the thread the needle.
- 43:22Speaker 1: I thought skilled himself. He picked off up and he
- 43:27Speaker 1: ran into like the corner of the board where the
- 43:29Speaker 1: targets are. I thought he was dead. I thought for
- 43:32Speaker 1: sure he heard his shoulder. Yeah, like I thought he
- 43:34Speaker 1: had done something. He's something because he stopped after that, which,
- 43:38Speaker 1: by the way, is kind of why Mac won. Right
- 43:39Speaker 1: the thread the needle, Uh, well, he threw he so
- 43:42Speaker 1: he threw an interception obviously, the pick six to Digs
- 43:44Speaker 1: here against the Cowboys. Then he threw the pit. He
- 43:46Speaker 1: threw an interception to him in that, and then in
- 43:48Speaker 1: the Pro Bowl he threw so he's thrown it three
- 43:49Speaker 1: interceptions to Digs. With with the write and centives. With
- 43:55Speaker 1: the write and centives, you can make basketball and baseball
- 43:59Speaker 1: are worthwhile. All Star Game You can't do it with
- 44:01Speaker 1: hockey and football. You just can't because that's not the
- 44:03Speaker 1: way the games. Even say hockey a little bit, you
- 44:06Speaker 1: probably could be football. It's just non it's just hard
- 44:08Speaker 1: to dictate. It's hard to take the physicality out of
- 44:12Speaker 1: the games. Yeah, I think what the what the NHL
- 44:14Speaker 1: is done is as good as you can make it.
- 44:17Speaker 1: They've set up the divisions and they play three on
- 44:19Speaker 1: three games and it's kind of like a round robin
- 44:21Speaker 1: tournament yea, and the winner so it's all skilled and
- 44:25Speaker 1: you're not I mean, three on three under normal circumstances
- 44:28Speaker 1: isn't very physical. You can't be right. So I think
- 44:33Speaker 1: that's a good solution for that. You can't do anything
- 44:35Speaker 1: with football. The only sport that you can really play
- 44:38Speaker 1: real is baseball. Yeah, but to your point, you could
- 44:41Speaker 1: say to basketball players, yeah, extra extra five million per
- 44:46Speaker 1: per player on the right, and they'll play defense. Yeah,
- 44:50Speaker 1: you know, and they'll play team absolutely. All right, five
- 44:53Speaker 1: five passive hundred ticket hut line. Let's go to the
- 44:56Speaker 1: ah ticket line. Marks and Bolton, what's up? Mark day?
- 45:02Speaker 1: To give up a legal drug? All right? What's the madam? Mark?
- 45:08Speaker 1: The offensive coaching situation is as reported, Bill making sure
- 45:13Speaker 1: there's no long term ascension plan for head coach, and
- 45:16Speaker 1: that's just how he wants it. I mean, I think
- 45:18Speaker 1: he's like holding out for the long haul, hope for
- 45:21Speaker 1: his kids and okay, a Mark, let me, I'm gonna
- 45:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna get you. I'm gonna wean you off of
- 45:27Speaker 1: the heroin that you're doing. So we're gonna, I'm gonna
- 45:30Speaker 1: help you out here for a second. This is something
- 45:32Speaker 1: that Fred taught me twenty years ago. The next head
- 45:36Speaker 1: coach of the Patriots will not have anything to do
- 45:40Speaker 1: with only what Bill Belichick wants. He might have some input,
- 45:45Speaker 1: it's not but it won't be his decision to make.
- 45:48Speaker 1: It will be Robert and Jonathan Kraft's decision. Right. So
- 45:51Speaker 1: the fact that there's if there is, like the fact
- 45:54Speaker 1: that Josh McDaniels is no longer here, does not do
- 45:58Speaker 1: anything to that. If Robert wanted Josh McDaniels when he
- 46:01Speaker 1: was here, then he had a chance to succeed Bill Belichick.
- 46:04Speaker 1: If he didn't, it wouldn't matter if he was still here.
- 46:08Speaker 1: And Steve Belichick isn't any closer to being the head
- 46:11Speaker 1: coach that succeeds his father. Unless Robert and Jonathan Kraft
- 46:15Speaker 1: want it that way, it's their decision. It will be
- 46:17Speaker 1: their choice, not Bills, right, and I'm all in on
- 46:21Speaker 1: that Oka saying there is no ascension plan right now,
- 46:25Speaker 1: But you don't need an ascension plan. You need to
- 46:27Speaker 1: know who Robert and Jonathan want to be the next
- 46:29Speaker 1: co I mean, really, look at every team in the league.
- 46:31Speaker 1: There's very few teams that have their head coach on
- 46:33Speaker 1: their staff. The next head coach they just had never
- 46:36Speaker 1: just had nine openings, one of them went to a
- 46:38Speaker 1: guy on staff. If I'm not two and Dennis Allen right,
- 46:42Speaker 1: two out of the nine went to guys that were
- 46:44Speaker 1: on the staff, and you could question why that happened. Well,
- 46:48Speaker 1: my further point is that in Bill avoiding the two
- 46:51Speaker 1: outside minority oct candidates by avoiding the Rooney rule, I
- 46:56Speaker 1: really think Bob and Jonathan are going to step in
- 46:59Speaker 1: and they're gonna make their own organizational statement right here,
- 47:02Speaker 1: and that's going to appoint Gerard Mayo as the assistant
- 47:05Speaker 1: head coach. And reason being that all needs. I think
- 47:10Speaker 1: the organizational coaching experience and the paths need him. I
- 47:15Speaker 1: think the players want him, and it will separate Mayo
- 47:19Speaker 1: from you know, from the kids, and it also, you know,
- 47:24Speaker 1: does set up a situation where maybe it also enhances
- 47:29Speaker 1: Mayo's ability to leave here. But either way, something's got
- 47:33Speaker 1: to change organizationally, and I think that Bob and Jonathan
- 47:36Speaker 1: aren't just going to let this mishmash go on what
- 47:38Speaker 1: we got right now. Yeah, the last thing I'd want
- 47:41Speaker 1: is the Crafts, Robert or Jonathan to start you know,
- 47:45Speaker 1: you call it meddling, but getting more involved than they
- 47:47Speaker 1: have been. Now this is not Listen, if the team
- 47:50Speaker 1: stinks for the next couple of years, Bill is going
- 47:51Speaker 1: to be gone, you know, So the Crafts aren't going
- 47:55Speaker 1: to get involved in that. And like, I don't know,
- 47:58Speaker 1: Like I don't know if Gerard Mayo's anybody than Steve Belichick,
- 48:01Speaker 1: I don't know that, you know, So, like why would
- 48:05Speaker 1: they do that? I know, I listen, We'll see what happens.
- 48:09Speaker 1: If anything that or the outward look at the organization. No, no,
- 48:17Speaker 1: they're doing right now it looks like no, it's it's
- 48:19Speaker 1: about winning football games. Right, that's gonna that's gonna cause
- 48:22Speaker 1: all kinds of problems if you did that, even if
- 48:25Speaker 1: you thought it was the right thing to do you know,
- 48:27Speaker 1: I don't think they would do that. Yeah. I don't
- 48:29Speaker 1: think you need to worry about that as much as
- 48:31Speaker 1: you think, Mark. Yeah, I think it'll be up to
- 48:33Speaker 1: the crafts. Yeah yeah, well yeah, and I think they're
- 48:37Speaker 1: going to do something about it, all right, But anyway,
- 48:39Speaker 1: all right, thanks Mark. I don't think something needs to
- 48:42Speaker 1: be not about not right now. Yeah, No, you know,
- 48:46Speaker 1: I think, Mark, you know, I think I don't think
- 48:49Speaker 1: you should get back on I just don't think that
- 48:51Speaker 1: you need to spend time worrying about is there a
- 48:54Speaker 1: guy on the staff that's in line to replace the
- 48:57Speaker 1: head coach. I don't think any other team thinks of
- 48:59Speaker 1: it that one. No, I don't know why it would
- 49:01Speaker 1: have to be that way. For all I know, there's
- 49:03Speaker 1: a guy that that Robert Kraft has targeted for the
- 49:07Speaker 1: replacement for Bill Belichick for years and we just don't
- 49:12Speaker 1: know who it is. I mean, think about it. There's
- 49:14Speaker 1: two reason. Yeah, there's two reasons why you lose your coach.
- 49:16Speaker 1: He retires or things are bad, right, you know, And
- 49:21Speaker 1: usually it's when things are bad, you know, and now
- 49:23Speaker 1: with Bill it could be you know, it's rare that
- 49:25Speaker 1: you have a guy that stays that long. But when
- 49:27Speaker 1: things go bad and you bring in a new head coach,
- 49:31Speaker 1: he's gonna bring all his people with him, right if, if,
- 49:35Speaker 1: and if things go bad, and you know, you probably
- 49:39Speaker 1: want him to do a full makeover. You know, if
- 49:43Speaker 1: things are bad, you don't want necessarily elevate someone who's
- 49:46Speaker 1: already here, you know, because that person could have been
- 49:48Speaker 1: part of the problem for all, you know. You know,
- 49:51Speaker 1: so it's just rare that you have that type of
- 49:54Speaker 1: thing happen, you know. Yeah, it just makes me think
- 49:56Speaker 1: of how Fears and Scarnekia kind of stuck through some
- 50:00Speaker 1: of those scenarios and we're able to stay stick around,
- 50:02Speaker 1: and that kind of that doesn't really happen as much.
- 50:05Speaker 1: I mean, I guess he can watch what goes down
- 50:06Speaker 1: in Miami and other places with the new coaches, but
- 50:09Speaker 1: you know, those old school coaches who kind of come
- 50:11Speaker 1: with the organization, it feels like fewer and few of
- 50:13Speaker 1: the girard how long has he been on the staff,
- 50:15Speaker 1: Like four years? Yes, maybe he was the Minority Coaching Fellowship.
- 50:21Speaker 1: I believe like this was his third Okay season, So
- 50:26Speaker 1: we don't even know if he if he was given
- 50:28Speaker 1: a coordinator, we don't even know if he could be
- 50:30Speaker 1: a good coordinator yet on his own, and we're gonna
- 50:33Speaker 1: like room him to be the head coach. Like I
- 50:36Speaker 1: just like I'm not telling you yay or nay on
- 50:39Speaker 1: Gerard Mayo as a head coach. I'm just telling you
- 50:42Speaker 1: do you know, But it's not important whether the next
- 50:45Speaker 1: head coach is currently on the Patriots staff, right, Like
- 50:48Speaker 1: I just that doesn't matter. I want to know who
- 50:51Speaker 1: Robert and Jonathan have in mind for the next head coach.
- 50:54Speaker 1: Obviously they're not going to tell us publicly, but it
- 50:57Speaker 1: doesn't have to be a guy on the staff if
- 50:59Speaker 1: it is, great, but it doesn't need to be that. Yeah,
- 51:02Speaker 1: look at how they got Bill, right, I mean that
- 51:03Speaker 1: was they got introduced to him and then he was
- 51:05Speaker 1: with the Jets, and I mean that was something that
- 51:06Speaker 1: was kind of simmering behind the scenes. So maybe something
- 51:09Speaker 1: I mean, getting a new head coach is a big
- 51:11Speaker 1: deal in NFL. It's it's a big big change. You know,
- 51:15Speaker 1: the guy, if he's and if he's genuine, he's going
- 51:18Speaker 1: to be totally different than the guy you just replaced,
- 51:21Speaker 1: and you gotta let him come in and build his
- 51:24Speaker 1: staff the way he wants it, and especially when things
- 51:27Speaker 1: went bad, and that's why you're changing coaches, you know.
- 51:31Speaker 1: So I like that Sean Payton though, no, I mean
- 51:35Speaker 1: I like that Sean Payton is a guy who was
- 51:38Speaker 1: going to get bad. I mean he said it flat out.
- 51:40Speaker 1: He's taking a year off. He's not retiring, right, So
- 51:44Speaker 1: maybe he's a guy that down the road you you
- 51:47Speaker 1: would drive, there could be guys like that. There might
- 51:49Speaker 1: be some guy that that you know, like Robert met
- 51:53Speaker 1: Bill in ninety six and got a really good vibe
- 51:57Speaker 1: from there might be a guy right that he got
- 51:59Speaker 1: a really good vibe from five years ago who was
- 52:01Speaker 1: sort of working his way up the ranks, and maybe
- 52:04Speaker 1: he has him in mind. I always liked that guy,
- 52:06Speaker 1: right whatever. I can tell you this, though, Patriots fans,
- 52:10Speaker 1: you can be you can sleep well at night knowing
- 52:13Speaker 1: that Jonathan Robert Craft are thinking about this, what's next
- 52:17Speaker 1: after Billy. They have been researching people, and they keep
- 52:21Speaker 1: their douce, you know, you know, and whether it's a
- 52:24Speaker 1: whole team of people doing that for them, they are
- 52:27Speaker 1: thinking steps ahead. I can guarantee you get your hand
- 52:31Speaker 1: movements in check, and maybe you can be a camera
- 52:33Speaker 1: I appreciate that. I'll work on it. Thank you for
- 52:35Speaker 1: the criticism. Were rhythmic, Um, I can't I can't walk
- 52:41Speaker 1: with a pep. That wasn't a peper. That I wasn't
- 52:44Speaker 1: a pep, my friend, that was completely without, that was
- 52:49Speaker 1: pepless without. The people need cameras this time, I dance
- 52:52Speaker 1: on the way to the bad actually on your way
- 52:57Speaker 1: back from it. I don't know. I could see you
- 52:58Speaker 1: going to the bathroom. But web radio camera guy on
- 53:01Speaker 1: salt Pot, that's right. Web radio at Patriots dot com
- 53:04Speaker 1: is the email address. Jeff from Natick says Fred wanted
- 53:08Speaker 1: welcome back to the show. Thank you. I don't believe
- 53:10Speaker 1: anyone has ever asked, but are you behind the Giants
- 53:12Speaker 1: and Jets lawsuit claiming they are from New York when
- 53:15Speaker 1: we all know they are from New Jersey. I didn't
- 53:17Speaker 1: know there was a lawsuit. We sign on to that. Yeah,
- 53:22Speaker 1: my money and I wanted now, if anything, i'd be
- 53:25Speaker 1: named in the suit for defamation because I'm the one
- 53:27Speaker 1: that says they're from New Jersey. Well, they are from
- 53:29Speaker 1: New Jersey. I know they don't think so, though. UM
- 53:35Speaker 1: let's see Bill and Vista, California says Hey, guys, stop
- 53:38Speaker 1: giving Fred so much crap. We know the real reason
- 53:40Speaker 1: why he would choose to replace Mack. He saw Mac
- 53:43Speaker 1: having fun celebrating his TV in the Pro Bowl. Enough,
- 53:47Speaker 1: all jokes aside. How would you guys grade his performance
- 53:50Speaker 1: in the Pro Bowl? Um, it's like see, I mean
- 53:56Speaker 1: you have to grade the Pro Bowl first? Yeah? Well, first,
- 53:58Speaker 1: it was completely ridiculous. I thought them the touchdown throw
- 54:01Speaker 1: he had, um was nice. That was a nice throat.
- 54:05Speaker 1: Was a good throat? Get a good throat? I heard
- 54:07Speaker 1: it was a good Well. I saw the clip and
- 54:09Speaker 1: it looked like a good rolled out Yeah, yeah, it
- 54:12Speaker 1: was moving rolled out with Patrick, nobody covering and out there.
- 54:17Speaker 1: And I will say this, I don't know like what
- 54:21Speaker 1: type of uniform they use, but Mac looked good in
- 54:23Speaker 1: the uniform. He looked pretty cut. Yeah, he looked. He
- 54:26Speaker 1: looked very good in the uniform, although he did reveal
- 54:29Speaker 1: he's got to get rid of the ice cream. Are
- 54:30Speaker 1: you thanking too much? Oh? You think I concur Mac
- 54:34Speaker 1: on that one? Uh, But I just thought the nice
- 54:37Speaker 1: thing from it was just seeing him get to interact,
- 54:39Speaker 1: getting to show some personality. Some of these other stars
- 54:41Speaker 1: around the NFL get to know him a little bit.
- 54:43Speaker 1: And who knows down the line, one of these guys
- 54:45Speaker 1: maybe gets a chance to play with him, knows him
- 54:47Speaker 1: a little bit. I know Chandler Jones, not that he's
- 54:49Speaker 1: coming back, but who's that? You know? Should I see
- 54:51Speaker 1: what I say? I know you did. I'm just gonna
- 54:54Speaker 1: go with it from now on. Can you guys just
- 54:56Speaker 1: let me have a Chandler Jones? He liked them, but
- 55:01Speaker 1: I think that was what I enjoyed, just seeing him
- 55:03Speaker 1: get to interact, show some of his personality. And the
- 55:06Speaker 1: dance was great everybody, I mean, brings a smile to
- 55:08Speaker 1: everybody's face. You're just out there entertaining the kids, you know,
- 55:11Speaker 1: just a fun time, looking like Deuce go into the

- 1:05:28Speaker 1: moments in Eric read an email that came in from
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Brazil last Thursday, and he refers to Brazil as overseas.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm right or wrong, but I
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: don't consider South America to be overseas. Seems like overseas
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: general refers to Europe or Asia. You'd be correct emailing Yeah, right, No,
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: maybe maybe you said it at the top of the emails.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: And then why why is that not considered overseas? South America? Yeah,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: it's the same hemisphere. Could you get there without going
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: over a sea? Yeah? I guess you could. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: I suppose you could get there without going over the sea. Right,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Usually if you cross an ocean or a sea, it's oversea. Yeah,
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: but I would typically anything international if I know you're trying.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: I know you're trying. I like your explanation, but I
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: would agree with you. I wouldn't consider South America over Yes,
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: I just think it's a it's a synonym for international
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: oversea people say internationally. They use it interchangeably international and
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: over Canada over He brought that home. No, okay, he
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: brought that's that's neighbor. It's international, not all international. He
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: brought that home. Though. I liked what he just did there.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: It's it's synonymous with international, but it's not right right
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: right with the ready is Canada, Mexico. That's another great
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: moment from all right back here. Patriots unfilter fives, web radio,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Patriots dot Com, the email address, many emails. Oh we
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: got a lot. Yeah. Bill says, uh, what do you
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: make of Odell Beckham saying he was interested in the Patriots.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: We talked about that. Um, yeah, yeah a few years ago.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: Since he's uh free agent next year, do you see
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Bill making a play for him. No, because they don't
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: have Tom Brady. No, And he said that's why he
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: would have played here. I know, I'm having a real
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: hard time getting amped up about free agency. Of potential
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: moves comes first for the draft. It's just hard to
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: know how they're gonna how they're gonna take care of
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: their own house, and then what are they gonna have
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: money to go spend on make a splash guy or two.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: I've been, yeah, I've been. I've been thinking of this too,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: because we're starting to do our um, you know, get
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: our snapshots ready for for free agency, and they might
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: have to, you know, bite the bullet here and go
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: do what we kind of were asking for and play
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: a lot of these younger players because I don't know
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: if they're gonna be able to sign, not gonna be
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: able to draft a lot of players because they don't
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: have the draft capital. They have like six picks right now,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: and I don't know, you know, unless they make a
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: bunch of trades to acquire picks, they're not going to
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: have that many. They might have to, you know, go
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: with what they've got for this coming season for the
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: most part. I mean they're gonna obviously make a few additions,
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: but could be like last year, we call him the
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: Deadwood linebackers. I mean that whole second level of guys
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: and you know, throw in Harvey Longy and Terres Hall,
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Anthony Jennings, he still exists. I guess I'm trying to
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: figure out he didn't play it all this year, so
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: I guess his contract would toll Is that correct or
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: how does it It doesn't toll, No, so it just
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: rolls over to this year. I don't think. I don't
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: think it tolls them was a pup. I think he
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: ended up on that cons as a year. Yeah, and
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: you know it's get back to that coordinator talk on defense.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: If it is going to be a young defense, that's
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: more reason to have Bill looking after it. Right. It's
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: an experience that I just I'll never forget. And I've
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: said it before Iver, I'll never forget ninety six lawyer
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Malloy when Bill had just gotten here and it was
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: at Bryant College at training camp, and Malloy gets in
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: front of the media at access and says, this guy's
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: a genius. He makes it seem so simple, like you
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: can really understand what he's saying, you know, And I
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: think that's been part of Bill's you know, superpower is
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: being able to make the players understand what their job is.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: This is what you're supposed to do, and that's who
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: you want talking to young kids, right. Sure, any coach
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: that can make it simple look an break that because
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: we always hear about how complex their playbook is and
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: their system. And if you can do that and get
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: somebody up to speed very quickly. Great, it just doesn't
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: always work. But if you're doing that and now you're
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: spending more time on offense, because I that's what I
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: worry about. So it's like, we got to define these roles.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: The players need to know who to listen to at
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: all times. Yeah. So, but you know, we could be
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: way off. Maybe that is just the case, and these
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: defensive players that we were hearing from are just making
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: excuses because they're embarrassed. You know. Oh that could be too. Yeah.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: I don't dismiss that, you know. So I was just
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: looking up Paul, you always put my rider up to
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: these things with Mike Reece, and he mentioned the Patriots
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: strong draft class in a tweet. I'm trying to find
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: it right now, but I just found it interesting that
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: he also mentioned Ronnie Perkins in that tweet as a
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: you know, just he highlighted him as somebody and you know,
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: he's just a guy that I feel like came out
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: of last year and not really know him much about
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: at all. I mean, I'd love to feel some kind
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: of positive hope for him. I just thought it was
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: interesting that that Reese kind of highlighted him a little bit.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Maybe they've got some hope for him. I'd love to
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: hear that they had some kind of hope for some
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: of those guys to maybe emerge into some kind of
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: significant role next year, because right now I don't I
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: don't know what's going to happen if High Tower hangs
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: him up and they don't retain Bentley or I think
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Vanoy come very young squad, could you see them? I mean,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: I think that they need the depth with somebody like
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: van Noy right now. But could you also make a
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: case that let's turn it over and let's go, you know,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: fully youth movement with it with the second level. Maybe
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: that's too much, um, but I'm curious if High Tower
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: wants to keep playing that. That's a that's a big
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: first piece of it. I think, uh spi and Fresno
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: writes and Bill is the greatest coach ever and therefore
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: a great leader, But that doesn't mean he perfectly embodies
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: all desirable leadership traits. Specifically, I wonder if he's subpart
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: at delegating. I've struggled with that in leadership positions, always
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: thinking I'll just do it myself and paying the price
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: for taking on too much work, the strategically assistance. Maybe
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: it's just something Bill isn't particularly good at thoughts, reasonable
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: thoughts and all seriousness. Sure, he's got a lot, a
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: lot to manage. I mean it's it's a whole whole
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: army of people that do a number of different things.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: Hard hard to know without being behind the scenes exactly
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: who's doing what. But I mean it just gets harder
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: is he gets older and he loses you know, trusted.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: And I'll go back to the nine. We got more
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: traction out of that, oh nine football life, m for
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: the for the Patriots. You know, I just can't get
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: these guys to play the way. That's the money line
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: from that. There was also a scene, Um, I don't
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: have any idea what part of the season it was in,
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: but Bill is sitting down watching film with Tom Yep
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: and they're going over the offense and the game plan
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: and X Y would do this, would do that that,
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: And Tom gets up and he says, Okay, I'll go
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: tell BILLYO. And my immediate reaction was, that's how the
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: game plan gets formulated Bill and Tom and then they
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: disseminate that information through the coordinators, who then install it
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: during the week. It's not like the mad professor offensive
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: coordinator saying, oh, we'll do this this. I think Bill
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: has always done everything, yeah, and I think at this
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: at this stage of his career, maybe he's not quite
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: able slash willing to do everything as well as he
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: once did. Yeah. Yeah. Just to corroborate that a little bit,
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: I posted. I wrote a long thing this week or
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: today about quarterbacks second year development will kind of you know, improvement,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: and found a few different sources about you know, quarterbacks
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: who play right away, guys who get east into it,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: that kind of thing. But I talked to J. T. O'Sullivan,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: who did a lot of great videos last year, and
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: one little bit of insight that he provided was he
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: was only here briefly, I think in six as part
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: of the practice squad, but said it was one of
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: the only places where the quarterback and the head coach
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: had so much direct contact together and he wasn't you know,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: obviously he's out on the outside now. Unsure if that
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: continues with Mac, but I think it kind of backs
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: up that that, you know, Bill's connection to at least
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: Tom and most likely Mac, now that there's something that
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: doesn't and exist around the league, and he'd been third
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: of the league, he said he played and if this
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: was the only place where he saw that much of
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: the quarterback and the head coach direct interactions, to me,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: that's weird. Like I would think that on all teams
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: the head coach and the most important position player has
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: a lot of direct contact. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: they like to keep the distance in case, you know,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: let the coordinator be that person and so I could
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: be the bad guy. And you wonder it now with
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: all like and we talked about last week with the
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: Sean McVay line, I guess, which is kind of the
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: Shanahan line, but just all those coordinating. Now you've got
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Mike Mike McDaniel going to Miami. Maybe it's different for
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: that group because they seem so tightly connected to the quarterback.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: I mean, everything was Stafford and that decision that went
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: in to move on from Golf and Vic they I
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: wonder if guys like Shanahan, McVey, you know, the guy
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: in sinc, etc. Those guys maybe they have Maybe they
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: do have more since they seem so offensively geared towards this. Yeah,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: chat and Atlanta writes in I emailed in months ago
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: about how it was impressed with how the team was
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: performing and that really anything more than what they have
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: been accomplishing would be gravy. Fred Peggett right at the time,
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: while Paul kind of missed the point. They made it
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: to the freaking playoffs. My record prediction was almost the
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: same as Eric's, plus another loss with a rookie quarterback,
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: an older defense, and mediocre receivers. I didn't have very
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: high hopes, so after they surpassed my expectations, any other
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: positive accomplishments for the season was just extra gravy on top.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: I'm pleased with how things went, and I'm very excited
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: for the future of the team. I would ask that
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: you send it in an email for Thursday and let
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: us know what you think they'll do next year, because
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: I agree with everything. I agree with everything he just wrote.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: If you, Eric, what did you think they were going
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: to go seven and ten? So if you thought they
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: were going to go six and eleven, this was a
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: wild success. You thought they sucked, so they were a
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: playoff team, So they were, you know, are eight distance
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: away from what you thought they were going to be
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: in the positive direction. Of course, you were were you
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: we thrilled? I think a lot of other people thought
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: they were a playoff team. They made the playoffs and
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: then got blown out in the playoffs, so some other
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: people aren't as excited about the progress that they made it.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: I mean, isn't that a fair way to look at it?
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: If you thought they were going to win six games
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: and they win ten. There were some people, that's huge
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: that I remember at the beginning of the season saying
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: that this team would be a bust if they didn't
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: make the playoffs. Remember they were talking about how, you know,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: after all the moves and one hundred and seventy million
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: dollars and not make the playoffs some people and I
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: thought those people were you know, a little you know,
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: over zealous in making those I did too, I thought
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: they I thought they had a chance to be a
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: playoff team. Yeah, but it's it's so specific with that season,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: and there were a lot of things that I loved
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: about that season. I mean, I thought, even those losses
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: to the Cowboys and the Bucks, what fun games. I mean,
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: just to the atmosphere, it felt like you were part
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: of something. I agree. That's what changed from the beginning
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: of the season to the end of the season. When
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: they lost a bad teams early, you felt like you
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: were right there. When they lost to the better teams late,
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: I didn't feel like And that feeds to it to
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: my next point of you know, as much as I
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: thought that they would be on the cusp and a
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: nine ten win team and get in the playoffs and
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: that's kind of what they did, the way it looked
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: at the end was gross, you know, and it's hard
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: to like resign yourself and be like, yeah, but it
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: was great, and it also is I think it's just
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: a continuation of my bigger point going in this offseason,
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: which is like, well, that's your one of the bree build.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: Certainly things will be better next year, right Like, I
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: don't think that that's a shirt. I think that they've
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: got a lot of work to do that there's a
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: lot of turnover. Last season was last season, and mac
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: Jones had a solid first season, but it's not gonna
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: matter come fall twenty twenty two. They've got a lot
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: of work to do to get better. That last game
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: left a bitter, bitter, bitter taste in all our mouths.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: I mean, it was the last embarrassing well I know,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: but but that was the worst of it. And you know,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: we're just so conditioned that they step up, you know,
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: they step and even in that last game after everything
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: that was so ont they're gonna step up against the Bills.
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: It'll be a good game. And it was anything. But
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, I people say that's like the
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: second worst loss in Bill Belichick's uh second, I mean
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: score wise, but but I mean, you know, to be
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: dominated the way they did, you know, to not be
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: able to you know, seven drive seven touchdowns, yeah that
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: I don't know that that was really bad. And so
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: and that's our last thought of the Patriots, you know, yeah,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: well that's why I like the Pro Bowl too, because
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: you got a little bit of something different. But I mean,
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: and Paul brought up O nine and that's just the
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: fashion in which it ended counts for something, and there
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: was something more there than just a team that wasn't
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: good enough to be there. Like it was a team
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: that didn't have it. They didn't bring the energy, they
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: didn't come ready to play that game. So I think
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: what carries over into this season is what was that
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: Because for two out of the last three years and
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: I through twenty twenty kind of out of it. You've
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: seen this stumble down the end and this you know,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: when it's supposed to be everything starting to click and
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: you know what your strengths are and you're playing towards it,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: and you're motivated by games that happened earlier in the season.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: All that stuff was out the window and it was
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: all there for the taking. And I think that's what's
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: hard for a Patriots fan like me to take. When
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: you have all these things that you believe of. They
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: get better with the good coaching over the course of
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: the year. They play hard all the time, They're a
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: tough team to play against. They were none of those
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: things in the finale. And I think when they come
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: out of the tunnel in the opener next year, that's
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: the taste that I'm gonna want washed out of my mouth,
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: is to see a team that's going to come out
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: and play with a renewed sense of energy and not
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: obviously the one that got rolled off the field. I mean,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: they had no answer, nothing, nothing from the get go.
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. You know,
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: now I'm depressed again, but forgotten that. I was just
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: thinking about Max run and they're pretty And now I
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: got to think about that game. They just showed it,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: by the way, because they're talking about Justice Jefferson on
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: NFL Network and they showed the Mac play and I
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: was actually wrong. I think it was a three yard
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: run when when they blew it, they blew it dead.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: But with the way they were ruling tackling, and I
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: didn't blame him for just keep going right, but every
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: he ran by several guys that were that were standing
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: still like whatever that is that the back judge, the
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: one that's all the way in the back, it calls,
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: you know, back judge calls the delay a game penalty.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: You know, the guy that's way in the back of
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: the defense. He's standing there like thirty yards behind the
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: scrimmage and Mac is running at him and he doesn't
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: even move. He doesn't even turn, no, like he's buy
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: him like ten yards before he kind of like what
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: is he going? That's the question? From what yard line?
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: Did you realize it was? Just? I think I think
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: he definitely that right, you totally. I love it. Shrisha
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: from Bangalore. Do you think that the Patriots should think
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: about stability in the OC position before hiring someone to
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: that position because this will affect Max grow. How does
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: the hiring of Joe Judge affect this. I don't think
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: Bill will be personally coaching Matt. So do you think
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: Joe Judge will be doing that? What are your thoughts? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: he will be. Yeah, because they did lose there. I
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: don't know what Joe Judge was hired to do. Yeah,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: we don't know. We don't even hired. Yeah, we don't
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: know what he was hired, right. If he was tired,
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: it was supposedly as an offensive assistant. I don't know
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: what that entails, right, And uh, the guy who was
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: helping coach quarterbacks with Josh last year has gone with
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: Josh to the Raiders. Bo heart agree. So they do
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: need somebody who was going to sort of focus on
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: that position and the offense overall. And so between Joe Judge,
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: Brian Day will, how those giants joint practices. That's gonna
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: be some weird, some weird energy out there on the field,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: like yeah, you know, he'd be doing my thing right,
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: like looking at each other like here used to go right,
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: you were here, now you're not. You get their ass
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: last year. Let's get to the a sticket outline. Eldred's
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: in North Carolina. He was there, you yeah, he had
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: to driving. Um Andrews in LA. What's up, Andrew Heart,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: he's back at it again. Oh yeah, you're going to
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: the super Bowl, Andrew? Uh you know what really funny story,
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: So my wife boss might be like getting tickets from
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: his employer. He said that if he gets them, he's
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: gonna take me and we'll see hopefully. I'm a big Joe.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: I'm a big Burro Brady fan. Um, but going with
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: the LSU team. Um, you guys know where the gritty
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: came from? Enlighten us? Oh yeah, okay, yeah, so, um,
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: one of the friends of Jamar Chase made up a
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: dance and then it just caught on at LSU. So
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: like Jamar Chase started doing it and justin Jefferson. So
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: that's where it came from. And that actually started with Chase,
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: not Jefferson because I think, yeah, Chase's friend, Yeah, it's
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: money and his friend made it up and that's how
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: it caught on at LFU. Yeah, so a little backstory
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: with that. Did you guys feel like my dance was
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: catching on? And I'll take you When I walked to
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: the bathroom. No, no, that's sache No, it was quite sweet,
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: but it probably yeah, it was. It was quite honest.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: It was quite the sas. I want to burn it
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: out of my eyeballs forever. Can you see you describe
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: it for me, Paul. He was sort of um first,
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: he was swinging his hips and he was sort of
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: moving his hands back and forth from side to side
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: as he was sacheting down the corridor to go to
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: the back. What's that old movie with John Travolta and
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: Jamie Lee Curtis where they're doing that? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: yeah perfect? Is that what? Yeah? That's what it looked? Perfect.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: I wonder, I wonder where perfect perfect? But I can
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: see the video cassette, Bob, Yeah, perfect, Well it was.
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: I don't mean to cut your guys off, wouldn't dance talk?
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: But that was in the wheelhouse. I was thinking about
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: how obviously Brady and that interview sounds like there might
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: be some inkling that he still wants to play right,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: And I was thinking about how if he came back
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: in a few months and the Bucks had build up
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: their cap space, he could essentially basically force a release
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: or a trade, kind of like what Bronkowski did with
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: the Patriot and I kind of look at wrong. I
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: kind of look at Gronkowski when I'm looking at Brady
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: because I feel like their relationships kind of close, and
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: I don't think Bronk wants to play anywhere without Brady.
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: Do you guys think it's interesting that Bronkowski hasn't said
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: anything about his future. He's technically a free agent, and
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: he hasn't said anything about retiring or playing or going
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: somewhere else. Yeah, Oh yeah. I think he had a
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: press conference after the season and said he was going
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: to give it some time before he made his tor
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: and Andrew, that's probably what the time is for, right
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: to figure out what Tom is doing? What are you doing?
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: Most definitely that I just thought that was kind of
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: interesting because I feel like those guys talk a lot,
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: and if they were going to go anywhere, he's gonna
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: like cook Gronks somewhere to like wait for him and
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: like keep the keep it warm for him and then
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: he'll be ready. I think the whole thing with forcing
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: your way out of Tampa is it's still contingent on
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: Tampa doing it. Like the Patriots actu esked with with
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: Gronk said, I only want to play for Brady. They
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: didn't have to make a trade, right right, No way.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: So if if Tampa just says, well, no, you're either
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: gonna play for us or nobody, kind of like Barry
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: Sanders back in the day retired the Detroit owned his
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: rights and refused to get rid of him, and then
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: he got too old and could still up their cap
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: based I know that the cap is crap, but you know,
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: the real dollars are at work here, And if they
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: go out and get a starter, like let's say they
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: go out and pay over twenty million dollars for a starter,
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: because maybe in their minds they're still contenders, and then
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: they fill up that cap and they're like, well, now
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: we have two starting quarterbacks and Kyle trap. Yeah, but
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: he has to come back and play to do that,
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: you can, I mean, you're gonna call us? Is he
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: gonna call their bluff? Brady's gonna call their bluff? Yeah?
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: Are you saying that? Well, but I'm saying if he
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: waits a while and they try to make a move
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: and they divulge all these assets into getting another quarterback, right,
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: he kind of has the power play there. He can say, well,
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: now I'm unretired, I know, and you know. And they
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: can then say you'll need to play for us or nobody. Yeah,
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: they can do that. Yeah, well, if Brady's not gonna play,
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: But then Brady clearly doesn't want to play for Tampa,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: right right, But Paul, if he comes back, that means
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: that the cap is reactivated. So that means that if
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: they spent that money, it's only reactivated if he decides
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: to play. No, But but that's his leverage, right, Is
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: he gonna call Tampa's bluff? Right? That's what I'm asking. Well,
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: each one of them are calling each other's bluff, you know. Well,
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: I don't think there's any question that Tampa would do
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: if they want him to play. Oh, I don't care
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: who they get. No, they want Brady to play, I know.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: But to Travis, but his point is, Andrew's point is
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: this is down the road. Yeah, so the Bucks have
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: already Alex, unless it's like Aaron Rodgers, Bucks want Brady
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: to play. No, But I'm saying, so what about the
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: Shawn Watson or something like that. I think they would
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: rather have Brady. Yeah, but what if they've already gone
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: down the road, and gutt and b right, I can
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: put him off for a year. I would rather have
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: Brady plan that. This is my point. So yeah, but
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: can you do both? Yeah? Yeah, let's let's not talk.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: Can we please be be adults? What can we be
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: adults to just say? It doesn't really matter what the
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: cap hit is? Well? It does, I mean it doesn't.
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: You can't have two quarterbacks making sixty million dollars. You know.
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: First of all, Deshaun Watson doesn't make thirty, so you
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: don't have to worry about him when he comes back.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Who knows he's under contract? You know, I I hear
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: what is and I don't think Brady is going to
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: command Brady. His contract doesn't call for thirty, does it?
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Maybe it does? Maybe it does? Yeh. So so that
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: that means you could have if DeShawn watching his thirty
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: and he's fifteen, you're still five. We could do that.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: I think it's more than that for Brad I think
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: he's owed fifteen, but I think if he comes back
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: it I just don't you guys worry so much about
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: the cap and that's really not part of the equation. Well,
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: then what's the leverage for a guy like Brady to
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: to get out of town. How can he do it?
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: You're saying, well, he could demand a trade. Yeah, but Andy,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: they say, right, but I did, and then he'd have
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: to retire, which is what he's But I think gron
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: I think Gronk's leverage was I'll come back. And then
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: Patries didn't want to pay him, you know, so they said, okay,
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: well we'll trade you. Correct, you know, so correct? That
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: was his leverage. Say it again. He didn't want to
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: pay him. They didn't want to pay, right, So his
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: le ridge was to threaten to come back, right. But
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: that I don't think the Bucks would have any problems
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: paying him. Yeah, this is my point. This is the
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: part that you're not right today. I don't think I
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: agree with you. But he's in Andrew's scenario. This is
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: down the road where they've already settled what they're gonna
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: do with quarterback, you know, And yeah, I think we've
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: got other We've got other ideas for that money, you know.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying is I think they would rather
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: have Brady. I mean, unless it's like Aaron Rodgers, like
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: you go out and you make a deal with Tampa
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: where you're trading, you know, and I guess if you
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: had to trade a lot for Deshaun Watson. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: Andrew's right, you haven't you know? Brady could then go
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: and say, well, they didn't give up two first round
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: picks to get a quarterback and then have me play right,
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: that's what? Can we just take the cap out of
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: it and be an adult like it doesn't have anything
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: to do with cap space. I don't even want and
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: enter into that. And actually, uh, Deshaun Watson salary is
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: gonna is gonna go out? You are? It's like, no,
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: never mind, I'll be good. I don't believe. Thanks Andrew.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: Can we be adults? Uh? Toddson Greens makes a lot
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: of money? So I just a quick question. Our special
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: teams were kind of thirty last year. How much do
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: you think an improvement to our special teams would change
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: our record? Would we buy one game extra winning two games?
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Or we just needed to zero? We just need to overhaul? Okay,
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: so what do you think that? I mean that one
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: game in Indy, if you don't get that punt blocked?
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: Is what is your chances of winning that game? Certainly
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: better than what happened, But I'm not willing to say
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: they lost the game because they got a punt block. Yeah,
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: but over and then overall in the season, Like, how
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: much of a difference would it have made? Not much,
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: not much big? I mean, I think it would have
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: been more if it was Nick Folk was terrible. I
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: think you got good performance out of that. To me
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: is why I say probably nothing because your special teams
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: were bad, but your kicker was the best in the
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: league in terms of production, so that off sets that
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: a little bit. That's my next question. Do you think
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: Folk is going to be able to come back? Isn't
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: he getting pretty old? Thirty seven? He said at the
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: end of the year he was still interested by beer. Yeah.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: They did sign Quinn Ordine to a future so he'll
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: be he'll be back. I think some other futures guys
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: to Bill Burr, Yeah, going for me, right, Yeah? Who else?
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: A couple of guys. There were a couple of guys Arlington, Hambright. Well,
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: we know there was somebody. There was somebody last week. Oh, um, Daniel,
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: that's not the one I was thinking of, though they
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: didn't really sign. I thought there was another one that
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: they just signed to a futures dealt some of those.
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: Next question is just do you think Flores had the
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: Canadian Football League take Flores back or Floors burnt his
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: bridge by putting out those emails like that or the
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: sort of the text me that's not that's I don't know.
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: I don't think that did it. But him calling out
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: Belichick is being part of the old Boys network probably did. Wow.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: All right, yes, yeah, well I never I would agree
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: with that point. I think, like, to me, the follow
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: up conversation where he said there's something wrong, the system's broken.
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: Bill Belichick shouldn't have that kind of power, right, He's
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: part of the problem. Yeah, that to me. You know,
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: I think Bill is a pretty open minded guy when
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: it comes to if he if he thought it was
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: the best for the team, it's not a deal breaker,
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: but I would say it's probably far fetched. I think
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: he's coming back now. Yeah, I would take him in
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: a heartbeat. Yeah, I would coach. I think it would
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: be a good move if they did. I agree. I agree,
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: can the defensive coordinator now you're talking, Now you're talking,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: will make him the defensive assistant? Neither of them ever,
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: the whole year, you keep getting like that's what I
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: you know, to Fred's point at the very start of
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: the show if there was like some kind of sort
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: of benefit, tangible or not, and that to me would
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: be one like I don't like my guys talking to
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: the media. I don't want I want to shield them
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: from that. But now that all these coaches have to talk, right.
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: The question though, that Todd brings up is a good one, though,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: about any potential damage to their relationship, because clearly there
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: was enough of a relationship for Bill to reach out. Well,
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: I guess I guess you could argue that her right, no,
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: but but you could also you could also make the
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: argument that he thought maybe they were talking about Brian Flores.
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: That's one of them, you know, Yeah, because if you
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: read the texts for what it's worth, he it could
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: for word, it means that he thought the giants were
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: talking about Flores, because Bill says it could be that
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: could be because Bill says, I misread the text, right,
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: I thought they were talking about right you. But it
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: sounds like but that could be Bill covering up for
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: it could be you know, I think there was some
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: gray area in terms of he either was texting the
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: wrong Brian, which I think was the case, or that
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: he thought he thought he was texting Flores, and he
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: thought Flores was the guy the Giants were going to hire, right,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: and then he realized he screwed it up. I read
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: the text wrong. I don't think that's what it was.
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: And I think Flora's sort of has come out and
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: basically said he made a mistake. He thought he was
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: talking to Brian Dable, right, and that he recommended Dabel
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: for the job, right, Like that's like, that's part of
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: this is this is what I'm talking about, where he says,
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: you know, Belichick is part of the old boy network
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: and he has too much sway as to who's getting
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: hired that they need to, you know, rethink their hiring
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: practices and how you go about it. It shouldn't just
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: be word of mouth from from guys that you know,
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: especially if if you're the Giants, Like, Okay, what's the
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: motivation for Bill suggesting Dable? Can you imagine? Well, you know,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: he also wants them out of the bills. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: he'd be great for you. Yeah. Can you imagine Joe
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: Judge and then the Giants go back to him, like
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: that's how Joe Judge got the job in the first place.
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: Was a strong recommendation from Bill, and they wouldn't let him,
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: and Bill wouldn't let him talk to McDaniels. Right two
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: years later, you're going back to Bill for a suggestion
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: after the way that one worked out. I don't know,
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: Magic Sauce the giants giants man, you know, and we
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: talk about like the owners in the league and all
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: the back channeling and stuff that goes on at that level.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: I imagine like at that head coaching level there's a
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: lot of politics and Game of Thrones stuff and all
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: that too, you know. Yeah, that's where Bills like kind
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: of a puppet master, you know. I think they're definitely yeah,
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: I think that's definitely true. I just laugh at getting
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: to see the actual text messages. I know some people
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: are making a joke about we talk about punctuation, Bill
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: doing the exclamation question exclamation that back. But just like
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: how Flora's like the vibe through it is like very
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: much like me talking like oh thank you, so yeah,
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: you know, like talking to your old coach, like thanks, coach,
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: appreciate it, like I got you, um that that And
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: that was the only thing I was a little disappointed,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: like when this all came out was that My initial
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: hope was just that I would hope that Flora's before
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: he made put his text a front and center on
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: what he filed legally, that he had given him heads
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: up and and you know, I think that that might
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: be where there could be contention. And then, as Paul
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: put pointed out, I think then he he just went
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: fully into into that way of it. So it's too bad.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: He's he's a he's a great coach. And I mean,
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: I mean, selfishly, you're glad he's not in Miami. I mean,
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: no offense to Mike McDaniel. But I look at him
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: and I'm like, this guy doesn't scare me at all
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: as a football coach. I mean, he might be brilliant
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: and maybe they'll be torturing us for years, but um,
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: you know, I just did the striking contrast between Brian Dabele,
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: who just looks like ultimate football coach, badass guy. And
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: then you know, and then they got this nerdy guy
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: with glasses coming in. I thought they hired him. Now,
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: I thought they hired him as like They're like, um,
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: this guy right, And then I saw the caption I've
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: got a coach, this guy right, right, let's see there
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: you go. I guess he's yes, sir right away. Uh,
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Travis is in California. Hey Travis, Hey, Hey. I guess
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: this is more of a question for for for because
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: I don't watch a lot of the Bengals taint and stuff.
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: But since they're in the Super Bowl, I've been watching
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: more of the Joe Brow I think him mac Jones
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: are pretty comparable. And I know Paul's a big Joe
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: Burrow fan. So you're seeing the same thing or no. Um,
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: But I would ask you what you think that they
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: do comparably. Well, I'm just saying they're stats and everything.
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: I know, stats don't tell the whole story, don't I
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: get that. I just when I've watched The Thrones, the
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: mechanics are all the same. The only real difference that
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: I'm seeing is Joe Brow is throwing the guy throwing
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: a five yards plant to a guy who's taking it
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: to the house, and Mac Jones guy gets stopped up. Yeah,
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: I think that's a little oversimplifying it. Arm Strength and
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: athleticism are two glaring things that yeah, I don't really
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: see think. Oh he's a first of all, he's a
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: much better runner, even coming off at twenty acl. I
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: don't even think it's close. Did you see his sixty
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: five yards? I did the three yard run? I did
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: see it. Listen. I think Max a little bit more
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: athletic than we gave him credit for coming out of college.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: He's shown that a little bit. So listen. I'm the
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: stats are similar, but I mean no, I mean I'm
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: talking about certain stats, certain stats, not when you talk
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: about yard completion percentage. Maybe is close, but like let's
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: let's I know, but no, but that but that's not
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: about what happened, you know, So you gotta just look
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: at the games, and you got to look at the player.
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: And one less game Burrow through twelve more touchdowns, Joe,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: Joe Burrow is a better quarterback at least right now. Yeah,
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: I don't know what. You don't know what Mac Jones
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: will become right well that that's okay. But but but
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: you can and and that's fine, you can speculate what if,
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: what if? What if? But right now, if you look
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: at Joe Burrow and you look at Mac Jones, you
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: just gotta say, Joe Burrows a bit of quarterback right now.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: Right now, I just don't know how you could use
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: anything in terms of structure around a guy for a
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: guy who quarterbacks the Cincinnati Bengals as a negative, like, yeah,
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: it's it's it's one of the three worst franchises in
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: the history of the sport, right, and he came in
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: in two years while tearing up his knee halfway through
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: one of them and has it in the Super Bowl. Yeah,
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: he's a good quarterback, man, So I mean, and then
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: that doesn't take anything away from that Jones. I'm not
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: taking it. I'm not taking anything away from Mac Jones. Again,
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: I'm very, very pleased at Mac Jones is our quarterback.
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: But I can say that and also say that Joe
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: Burrow's really freaking good, and I can say that Herbert's
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: really really good, and I can say that Trevor Lawrence
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: is really really good. I actually think he has a
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: chance to be like Herbert, not in style, like see
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: here's the physical stuff that you might look at that
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: in Mac Jones and not a huge difference in talent.
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: I disagree, but they're not like Joe Burrow is not
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: justin Herbert. He's not this six five six kid, you know,
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: six six guy with a laser beam for nothing. But
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: I think he has vastly superior skills than Mac Jones.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: But I understand what you're saying. If you think it's close,
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: you watched Joe Burrow and you don't think there's something
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: different about him, right, Yeah, he's got it. Joe Burrow
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: isn't tucking his head between his legs down fourteen. I
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: saw him do it many times, and I saw him
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: do it in Kansas City down twenty one to three. Like,
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: he wasn't great that day, He didn't play a great game,
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: but he did it when he had to, and he
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: let a comeback on the road against the best team
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: in the conference, against the best player in the conference. Now, yes,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: did he get lucky that the best player in the
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: conference was awful in the second half? Yep, he did.
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: But I just don't know how you can watch Joe
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: Burrow and not see more than you've seen from Matt.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: I don't know how you can say I agree with
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: your points, Paul, and I think I do think that.
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: I mean, they're both pocket passers, so I think just
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: at a base level, you can say, you know, it's
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: it's not like this is a dying breed. You can
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: still That's where I think he can he's he's comfortable
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: in the pocket, he's just as comfortable outside it making plays.
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: He did that a lot in the Kansas City game.
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: And I'm not just talking about runs. I'm not talking
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: about He has a god awful offensive line, which, by
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: the way, remind me on Thursday to get into that
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: because we all know how that is the integral piece
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: for Super Bowl success. This is two years in a
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: row now the worst offensive line I've ever seen is
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl. Whatever. Keep telling me about how
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: important it is. But he has to run for his
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: life almost every game. He doesn't just sit back and
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: throw and pick out his guys from the pocket. He
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: does things that Mac can't now. Maybe Mac will be
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: able to do them someday, but he does things now
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: that Matt can't do now, right now, right now, right
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: That's why I said this is not about Mac Jones. No,
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: I think a lot of Joe Burrow. I think way
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: more of Joe Burrow than justin Herbert. I think Mac
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: has some of the intangibles that Herbert lacks. That's why
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: I think physically he won't compare to Herbert, but he
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: might be a better player than That's and that's why
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: he might be a better player than him someday. Yeah,
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: And that's along those lines of and I don't want
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: to boil it down to Joe cool, but there's a
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: presence about Joe Burrow that Mac doesn't have. He didn't
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: have it this year as a rookie, and I think
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: that's one of the things I look at in year
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: two of that confidence. Like you mentioned, doesn't pee his
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: leg when he's down points. He exudes a confidence and
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: knowledge in himself and in the system, and that's one
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: thing that I want him go. But I think, I think,
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: I think to h Deuce's point, you know, he held
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: back in terms of the you know, vocal leadership thing.
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: I think you'll see more of that, and I think
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: we'll see it all this summer. And just you know,
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: I just think that there's such a rage to get
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: quarterbacks who can run like the wind and I don't.
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: And I I every point about outside of the pocket.
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: That's fine, maybe Max a little bit more confined, but
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: I just think it's a reminder that you can win
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: in this league throwing the ball and you don't have
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: to be this dynamic off platform for three quarterback as well,
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: there's ways to do it. But I'm a huge Joe
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: Burrow fan. He's won me over this year. There's just,
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: you know, there's a there's something intangible about me. I
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: don't think I agree with you. I don't think you
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: need to run and I would say Mahomes. I don't
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: think Mahomes runs a lot, but he runs effectively when
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: he does, when he needs to, he runs effectively. I
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: think Burrow does the same thing. I don't think Burrow's
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: quite as athletic as Mahomes, but I think he runs
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: really well when he needs to. I don't think Mac
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: has that. Yeah, I don't think he has that ability. Now,
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: you could throw it in the face and say, well,
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: you know, guys like Breeze and Manning and Brady did it.
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: Yeah they did. They were the very best ever at
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: what they did, you know, just sort of standing in
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: the pocket and throwing right from the pocket. I don't
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: know if Mac Jones has that kind of ability, passing ability,
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: but i'd like to see I'd like to see him
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: surrounded with guys too that you know that Joe Burrow
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: has that. I mean, and I don't, you know, necessarily
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: think that everything's a five yard slant. I mean, he
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: makes plenty of downface and we're talking about Drew Bledso
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: I really do. And you know how much I love
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: me some Drew. Yeah, but you know, yeah, it's Michael
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: Timpson and Ray Critten. Did we need to get up
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: some weapons? Yeah, no kidding. Everybody is better. The better
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: players you have around you, the better you're gonna be.
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: Can you elevate those guys? Yeah, no matter who it is.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: Can you make Michael Timpson a seventy catch guy? Vincent
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: Brisbee a seventy catch guy? That's what Drew did to
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: those guys. Those guys weren't any better players than Nelson
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: Agalore or Kendrick Bourne. No, I can promise you. Yeah,
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: those guys were jacks. Then they brought Sean Jefferson and
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: Terry glenn In and you went to the Super Bowl.
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: Right there, you go, Um, Joe and Owen sound Ontario.
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: Get the sense that many in Patriots Nation feel it's
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: just a matter of time until we retool and win
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: another three Super Bowls in four years and dominate the
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: league for another twenty. I recognize that this is completely unrealistic.
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: So I ask you, in building the team, would you
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: prefer a team that over the next ten years either
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: one or A he has wins one Super Bowl, loses
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: one AFC Championship game, has two first round exits, and
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: misses the playoffs six times, or makes the playoffs nine times,
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: never gets to the super Bowl, plays in the AFC
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: Championship three times, and wins a couple more playoff games.
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: Answer first one was twining the Super Bowl. Yeah, the
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: answer is yeah, I'll go with that. Yeah, while it
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: would be nice to consistently be relevant, I think I
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: might trade some bad years for a couple of really
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: good ones and a championship. We all agree, might. I
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: don't really see there's no might the two options there. Yeah.
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: Do you think Eli is an apt comparison to Mac
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: Jones A little bit? Is there anything there with Eli Manning?
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: Because I feel like that's he was always that guy
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: of never elite, never one of like the button. He
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: won a couple of super Bowls. But I don't know.
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: It's everybody wants comps when he get back, but they
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: only want comps of guys they think are really really good. Yeah,
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: they don't want the comp of Chad Pennington. Yea, even
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: though Chad Pennington was a terrific quarterback, um Jack and
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: and Arbor says, as I've stated previously, the thing that
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: distinguishes Mac Jones as an NFL quarterback is his elite accuracy.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: That is one of his traits. Absolutely, he's accurate. But
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: I this is where I'm gonna argue Paul side of
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: the fence with Patriots fans, we are so insecure, insensitive,
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: you know, like about Mac. And one of the problems
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: that happened is the minute he was you know, drafted,
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: it was like, this guy can be the next Tom
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: Brady or he's going to be a bust. And the
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: two sides dug their heels in and there was no like,
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: let's just see how he does. Like he's doing okay,
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: well let's just see. And it's like if you say
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: one thing like well he can't do that, then it's
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: you hate Matt Jones. And if you say, to Jack's point,
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: he's pretty accurate, that's what his you know, if he
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: has a superpower in the NFL, that that's what it is.
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: Then the other side it's like, whoa, what's that gonna
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: give him? You know, it's it's unbelievable, like it's either
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: one or the other, can we just give this kid
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: a chance? And I think part of it is what Matt,
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: what Mike is talking about with the comps, because we've
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: been inundated with the comps, like who cares who he
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: compares to? Right? Right? But just in that argument for
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: Fred's point, you get people that say, oh, he could
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: be he could be like Kirk Cousins, And people look
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: at you like, yeah, are you kidding me? Because they
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: look at Kirk cousins career and they say, well, if
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: he's Kirk Cousins, then he'll have the exact same results. No, No,
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: you have better coaches, you know, better situation, whatever. But
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: even talking about that, like he automatically they better coaches.
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: I mean, we just spent the first hour and forty
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: five minutes trashing the coaching. No, but I'm just saying,
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: like anything can point is what's so bad about being
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: like Kirk Cousins? Well, yes, I agree, do I think
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: you you know that's good enough? I don't personally, But
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: there were a lot of guys in the league worse
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: than Kirk Cousins. Right. Andy Dalton for four years had
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: the same more abund Bengals in the playoffs every year
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: and now people are so offended if you say he
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: could be like Chad Pennington. Yeah, if you don't say
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: he could be like Tom Brady, you're selling. I'm shoring right.
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: If it can't be fourteen and two, thirteen and three
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: every year, Like, what are the odds in the playoffs,
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: the odds of him being anywhere near as good as
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: Tom Brady? Like, just try to be realistic going to happen.
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: That's why anytime we get a scenario and they have
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: one where he wins the super Bowl, I'm in like,
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: that's that. That'll be Mack wins one super Bowl. I
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: don't care if it's Mac or anybody else. If you
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: have a ten year period and one of those periods
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: involves winning the super Bowl, the other one doesn't, I'll
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: take the one that involves winning it. Yes, And your
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: guy was driving everybody crazy yesterday, and he's probably doing
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: it on purpose because he was all about Mac. He's
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: a boy, you know, he's a puppy to this guy
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: who sounds like he's going through puberty. Is criticizing this
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: guy before being a boy Tony. He gets these stupid things,
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: I mean, and he won't let him off on it.
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: A leader the run dance and being silly, being silly, Yeah,
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: I kind of something. I feel like I've been a
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: little critical of Mac during the course of the season,
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: but I kind of like that. Yeah, I don't think
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: it was anywhere near as significant as it's been made
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: out to be, like, oh, it's a sign that he's arrived.
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: I've heard all the other thing it's there, But but
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: I am on the side of I liked it. I
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: thought it was funny, and I thought there was nothing
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: wrong with it. There was nothing to criticize about. It
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: tells you some of the Pro Bowl itself, tells you
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: always not to know about the Pro Bowl, and that's
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: the highlight of it, right, And it shows that he
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: has the confidence to do that. NFL stars then that
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: they would take amusement out, you know, I've read one
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: of these guys wrote that Max saved the Pro Bowl.
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: I think it was Andrew Kelly wrote. The headline was
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: Max saves PROO. It was literally, if if you're in
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: Kansas City, you're probably seeing highlights of stuff that Mahomes
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: was doing on the sideline. We live in this bubble,
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: you know, right, I had no like I said, I
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: had no problem and I thought it was a good thing.
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: I thought it was funny. I thought he showed a
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: little personality. I think those are good things. Sure, But
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: every argument seems to be it's either proving it's either
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: proving he's never gonna make it or proving that he's
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: going to the Hall of Fame. Can we just like
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: give this kid a chance and let him be who
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: he's gonna be. I said that during the course of
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: the season, it's not fair to Mac no the way
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: he's treated by the by the mac mafia. Yeah, right,
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: right now, they're building him up too much. And then
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: if he if he had God forbid, he only gets
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: one Super Bowl disappointment terrible. I've heard that, Mike, don't
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: tell me you haven't. Let's let's say macis here for
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: ten years and wins the Super Bowl? Will you be disappointed? Wildly? Wildly?
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: And I think that there's like a bigger point to
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: it of how many competitive football games do you get
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: to watch? Like going back to watching the Dallas in
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: the Tampa Bay what's your losses? But like I want
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: to be competitive. I want to watch good football games.
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: I don't want to go in and you know, we're
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: getting killed, and like, if he has the Patriots on
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: the playoff cust for ten years, that's great. That we're
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: so spoiled, it's unbelievable. But Mike is not exaggerated. I've
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: heard people say if he goes ten years and only
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: wins one, that's a fail. No, how can you then?
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: Who said that? People in the media or fans both
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: God distinguished between the two sometimes on my shows. Yeah,
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: oh yeah, our expectations have been just so warped because
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: of the last twenty years, just warped. Alright, anyone, I
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: don't know. Let's go to Patty and agawam, what's up Patty?
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: What's up? Guys? Hey, hey back Paul, Polly, how dare
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: you crap on my guy? After doing the gritty? But no, seriously, UM,
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: I just wanted to say, uh, bring up a couple
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: of things as far as like comps go. I don't
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: think that the Eli Manning tomp is that far off
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: because he's actually one of the players that something out.
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: But um, I'm kind of with you too, Polly on
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: the intangibles. And I don't know if you guys caught this,
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: but uh, in the NFL sights and sounds in the
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: AFC Championship game. The uh like, right at the end
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: of the game, Um, what do you call it? Pat
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Mahomes goes over to Joe Burrow and says, all right, man,
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: go win it. And Joe just like as he's walking
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: away just sort of tipped his cap to him. But
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: even before that, when they were down twenty one to thirteen,
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: he had his guys in the huddle and he's he said, Um,
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: when we score this touchdown, we're going for two. So
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: like that's you know, that sort of attitude. I can't Yeah,
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: I can't say for sure, but I think Max sort
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: of has that sort of like cock sure and a
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: little maybe a little bit cocky and confident attitude. We'll see,
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: you could see it. You could see it play out
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: because his teammates, like Burrow, like all of his teammates
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: love them, not just his offensive guys, but like all
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: the defensive guys love them. Yeah. I also think that
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: that might be a little part for the chorus. When
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: you're in a drive like that, when you're down, you're
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: trying to prepare, there's not much time left in the game.
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: You want to make sure everybody's on the same page. Okay,
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: so when we do this is what's going to happen,
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: So that you because you don't any time, you don't
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: want to waste a time out right, you're losing and
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: you have to play. I think that's there's a little
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: bit to that. That part of that is prep. Yeah,
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: that's that's good. That's a celebration. What are we doing
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: bowling your pins? I'm ball? You know right now? That
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: would do Now, that would concern me if you heard
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: some of that on the NFL film celebration were doing. Though,
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: Let's do the one that bothers Fred the most, and
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: then we'll take a picture. You pretend like you got
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: a kayak. You're a kayak guy, right, I'd like imagine
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: them choreographing this curse guy from the Patriots. He doesn't
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: like those, So let's do it. You do you don't.
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: You don't see the difference between like, hey, if we score,
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: he said, when we score, were I think that's football.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: I think if you don't think you're gonna score every
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: time you're on the field, you're in the wrong profession.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: Fair enough. I liked it, though, like I I like
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: I like him, I like him a lot, and I
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: do think Mac has I think Mac has confidence. Yeah,
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: I don't think he lacks confidence. I don't think that's
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: a problem. All right, thanks Patty, appreciate it. Um let's
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: see lots of emails, but running out of time. I
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: like in general, I just don't love him the way
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: some do. I'm with you, really, since when you used
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: to love them forever, you used to hard, you used
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: to sash thinking about my heart, mat Am. I convinced
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: that he is on his way to being a top
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: five to seven quarterback in league. I'm not. I'm not
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: convinced that's my quarterback. Let's go. Yeah, let's easy to
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: say when you when you don't have an option, I
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: don't think here's my quarterback too well, No, but like
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: you could say, we're moving on, you know one year,
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: you know he's my quarterback, let's go, And you can't
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: move on until you have an option. That's better. Yeah,
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: but I'd like to see I'd like to see some
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: more juice next year. I want to see. I want
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: to see something. I think I think it would help
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: that he's not going to be looking over his shoulder.
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: He's not going to be a rookie. He has a
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: year of experience, he's gonna have a full offseason, he'll
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: be all of those will help, you know, that's all.
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: That's all what I wrote today, that was I mean,
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: this is what's been on my brain. So that's you know,
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: especially in this team, I just can't imagine, like, you know,
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: how like stressful it is to be on on this
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: team because everything is just so exact. And I'm not
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: just talking about on the field. I'm talking about during
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: the week, you know, And maybe that's a problem. It
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: could be. It's not for everybody. It's not for everybody,
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: but I think it might be for everybody when Brady's
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: running the show, you know. I mean, I think the
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: difference in Mac at the Pro Bowl versus what we
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: kind of saw this year was, you know, it was
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: a little bit striking. And I mean I think that
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: that gritty dance and taking it, you know, with the
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: hell just running with it. I mean, I think that
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: shows a little bit more personally. I hope we get
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: to see more of that next year. I hope he's
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: a little bit more comfortable in his skin and his
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: role do the gritty and stuff every practice and stuff
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: and stuff. Ken says back to Andrew's call about Brady's
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: leverage and all that he says. I agree with the caller, Andrew.
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: I think Brady might wait until the season starts and
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: fill in if a contender gets an injury. Oh, I agree.
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: So what would the Bucks do if it's Week five,
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: they have a new quarterback and an AFC elite quarterback
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: gets injured. I think the Bucks would take a fourth
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: rounder to release the rights to Brady. That's all. I
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: have no idea what him. I don't think they would
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: trade him for just that. But I agree with you.
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: That's that's a scenario that I could see Brady coming
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: back in. Yep. Yeah, I'm with you, and I'm with
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: Andrew too. I was, you know, like, I get it.
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: It's it's a hard thing. I personally would say, you're
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: playing for me or nobody, because what are the odds
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: that Tampa is making that move that quarterback? So now
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: this is twice in four years, three years, they're getting
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: the marquee quarterback on the market, right, like more often,
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: more likely is they're getting like Jameis Winston back. It's
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: like all of a sudden, Matt Ryan's like, hey look
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: at me, and the only quarterback, last quarterback in the division.
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, is any part of you think that
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: Brady just said what he said in part just to
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: stay relevant. Yeah, like that he just wants to be
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: like included in any of these conversations. I mean we
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: all said that's why Gronk was doing it, you know,
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: leading people on it. Yeah. I mean you could make
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: the same argument Gronk was doing it to sell products. Yeah,
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: but and maybe act right, he's just why I said, Yeah,
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: you could make the same argument. It's a tough transition,
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: I think for guys, especially someone like him, who has
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: been doing this and has been regimented and now he's
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: gonna be kind of spinning without this a cranky little
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: beach in like two months. Sure. Well, but I could
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: also see liked l if he if he really believes
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: in his TB twelve empire and goes into the business
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: world and says, you know what, my goal is to
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: take over this aspect of the sports therapy or lifestyle
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: market path leisure out. Yeah, like five to ten years
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: from now, we're going to be considered the best in
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: the world. Like, I could see him being like psychotically
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: obsessed with doing that, and like he's got a new
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: passion coming for you, Lululemon. There's more than one thing
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: in the world that you can like and be good
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: at and and want to go after. My name is Tom.
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: Like it's so competitive, Like maybe he gets into that
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: and decides, Okay, I can I can get into this
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: and be really ultra competitive in that. He could. Yeah,
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: maybe he'll just become a fan of a team and
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: get super invested in it like me. Well, I heard,
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: and now we're up against it. But I heard, like
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: you know, he wants you know, like there's rumors of
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: him wanting to be an owner in the league. But
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: I don't know if that's from him or just someone
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: speculating him and Peyton should go joint joint venture, Like
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: Peyton could get out and do all the talking and
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: day be entertaining that Tom's not and Tom could be
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: the closer behind the scenes. I's been a little looser
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: these last couple of years doing commercials and stuff. He's
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: just not good at him subway, But I'm Tom Brady
- 1:59:31Speaker 1: be an expansion team, maybe the Omaha something. All Right,
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: that's gonna be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: We'll be back on Thursday with another see what's going
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: on with the Patriots coaching staff and who's coming, who's going.
