- 0:22Hey everybody.
- 0:22I am Steve.
- 0:23And I'm Izzy.
- 0:24And we're with everything I learned from movies and Tonight.
- 0:28Oh, tonight we're actually on another podcast, babe.
- 0:31What?
- 0:31I know.
- 0:32I know.
- 0:32I tricked you once again.
- 0:34Wait, but I took a left.
- 0:36We came down the hall.
- 0:37Oh, the interwebs are very mysterious.
- 0:39But we are here on Grand Touring Motor Sports Break Fix podcast.
- 0:42Welcome.
- 0:44What's up?
- 0:45Welcome back.
- 0:45Steven.
- 0:46Izzy.
- 0:46How you guys doing?
- 0:47Great.
- 0:48Great.
- 0:48How about you?
- 0:49Not too bad.
- 0:50Last time we talked, we went a whole gamut of different car related movies
- 0:55and we did it in a drag race format, but this time we decided why don't we hone
- 0:58in on one special gem in the movie world.
- 1:03And with me tonight is our co-host Brad.
- 1:07As well as our executive co-producer of the Drive-through series, Tanya,
- 1:11and a fan favorite mountain man Dam.
- 1:13Yeah.
- 1:14Woo.
- 1:14Hey, how's everybody doing?
- 1:16So, before we get started, I just have to say, Eric, we need to up our
- 1:19podcast game and we need a jingle.
- 1:21I know, right?
- 1:22We need, we need a harmonized jingle because we're missing out big time.
- 1:26Look, I'll tell you, the key to success is marry your co-host.
- 1:29It's so much easier to get scheduling.
- 1:31Is that legal here in Maryland?
- 1:32Eric, can we do that?
- 1:33I, I think it is.
- 1:34I, Marilyn was one of the first, I mean, what would our, what
- 1:37would our jingles sound like?
- 1:38Everything I learned from driving and I did crash.
- 1:42Well, I think they might sue us for copyright in front.
- 1:45Yeah, it's probably not good.
- 1:48No worse.
- 1:49We judge you.
- 1:49Yeah, we're like, we did it better anyway.
- 1:55We would Auto-Tune it.
- 1:56Oh, there you go.
- 1:58So what movie are we talking about tonight, guys?
- 2:00Oh man.
- 2:01We are talking about a movie I didn't even know really existed.
- 2:041978. Corvette Summer.
- 2:07Wait, your dad never said the joke every time you were
- 2:10watching any Star Wars movie?
- 2:11Hey, that's the guy from Corvette Summer?
- 2:12No.
- 2:15Okay.
- 2:16No.
- 2:16My dad has a sense of humor.
- 2:17Sorry, babe.
- 2:19I mean, I tried to write an intro for this, and I came up
- 2:22with one line and I stole it.
- 2:24It says, A high school grad and a hooker in training try to
- 2:27track down his stolen Corvette.
- 2:29Need we say more?
- 2:30That basically sums it up.
- 2:31No, no, no.
- 2:32It's not his.
- 2:33They just try to track down a Corvette.
- 2:36A stolen Corvette belongs to the school.
- 2:39They're trying to hunt down school property.
- 2:42So that's a, that's a good student right there.
- 2:45So much cringe.
- 2:46So much cringe.
- 2:48Look, schools used to care about their students, I guess.
- 2:52I guess.
- 2:53I mean, I mean, any school that serves a minor scotch and a
- 2:57tin cup, and we'll get to that.
- 2:58Right?
- 2:59Oh, we will.
- 3:00By the way, did you guys go to the shop class when you were in high school?
- 3:04Was it still around?
- 3:05I don't know if it's still a thing, but we didn't have one at Dam Matha.
- 3:07I spent the majority of my high school career in the auto shop class.
- 3:12So Nice.
- 3:13This was very similar in the aspect of being in the shop class, working
- 3:17on stuff, so I could relate to it.
- 3:19You took field trips to the junkyard too?
- 3:21No, those were, uh, trips with my stepfather.
- 3:23I mean, I know it's the backyard, the back 40, but still Is that where Daniel
- 3:27gets the idea for all these diamonds In the rough diamonds in the rust.
- 3:34Excellent.
- 3:34Well, before we get started, I don't know about Steve.
- 3:36We're too sober to talk about this movie.
- 3:38Oh, that's very, very true.
- 3:40Too.
- 3:40Sober.
- 3:41Uh, so from Wasatch Brewery here near Salt Lake City, Utah, we
- 3:44have their Devastator Double Bach.
- 3:47Yeah.
- 3:48Which is 8% alcohol by volume.
- 3:50Man, this is one of our favorite beers.
- 3:52It's pretty fantastic.
- 3:53Let's see if you're going to Sin.
- 3:54Sin Big.
- 3:55Our double Bach is a sweet, toasty, and rich, but finishes gentle.
- 3:59This beer is developed.
- 4:01A serious cult following.
- 4:02Imagine that a cult.
- 4:05Can't be true.
- 4:06And my top, my top
- 4:11in harmony.
- 4:11Well, on on our side, I'm leading the charge with a GTM Paddock
- 4:16favorite because only the finest things come in Red Solo cups.
- 4:19This is the one, the only, the Jager monster.
- 4:23Mm-hmm.
- 4:23Half Jaeger, half sugar free white Monster.
- 4:26This is legit.
- 4:28Oh Jesus.
- 4:29I dunno, it's abb.
- 4:30I dunno.
- 4:31Anything.
- 4:32You know, I call it my sugar free white monster as well.
- 4:35So
- 4:38that's what she said.
- 4:39Honey, I told you no talk on the podcast.
- 4:41Podcast.
- 4:42I'm sorry.
- 4:43Sugar free was too perfect.
- 4:44It's all protein, it's all,
- 4:49we could just do this, this for an hour and a, we don't
- 4:51need to talk about the movie.
- 4:52This would be better radio.
- 4:53I know you're not supposed to drink and drive, but you can definitely
- 4:55drink and pod at a thousand percent.
- 4:59And I wish I had pre-game for this movie.
- 5:01So, speaking of pre-gaming, Steve, tell us all about this
- 5:05wonderful piece of seventies.
- 5:07Well, I mean, so start off, it comes from writer director Matthew Robbins.
- 5:12Who's he?
- 5:12Steve?
- 5:13Oh, I'm glad you asked.
- 5:14This was actually his first movie.
- 5:16Whoa.
- 5:16You can tell.
- 5:17And then he went on to do, okay.
- 5:19These are some great movies that will definitely pop up
- 5:21on our podcast eventually.
- 5:23Dragon Slayer.
- 5:24You've all seen that one.
- 5:25All right.
- 5:25I think that's the, uh, Peter McNichol when he is like 18 or
- 5:29something, fighting a dragon.
- 5:30Oh, okay.
- 5:31Yeah.
- 5:31Yeah.
- 5:31The legend of Billie Jean.
- 5:33Oh, Jesus.
- 5:34It's a winner.
- 5:35Battery's not included.
- 5:37We all saw that when we were kids.
- 5:38Oh, we talked to the writer of, that's right.
- 5:40That's a gem.
- 5:40Oh, we sure did.
- 5:41That's right.
- 5:42Yeah.
- 5:42Yes.
- 5:42Says Wilson and a 1991 movie called Bingo, which I had to look up.
- 5:46It's about a runaway circus dog befriending a boy, and it stars Kurt
- 5:50Fuller, Glen Shatick, and a Bear.
- 5:53Amen.
- 5:53This October Bear, right.
- 5:56Wait, is the dog's name bear?
- 5:58No, no.
- 5:58It stars a bear.
- 5:59Apparently there's a dog and of course, because he is a circus dog,
- 6:02there's also gotta be a circus bear.
- 6:04Wow.
- 6:04Is that like the Clint Eastwood movie with the monkey?
- 6:07What was that called?
- 6:08Every which wave?
- 6:08A Lose In which wave?
- 6:09A Lose probably right turn.
- 6:10Clyde is a famous line from that, or any which way you can matter.
- 6:15The sequel matter.
- 6:15I mean, the only dog that ever mattered to me in the movie was Fred.
- 6:18From smoking the Bandit.
- 6:19I'm just gonna lay it out there.
- 6:21You never watched Homeward Bound?
- 6:23Oh, Homeward Bound.
- 6:24That s if you didn't cry when Shadow fell down that hole, you have no soul.
- 6:30I think you just described Eric to a TI associate with Darth Vader.
- 6:36But we'll talk about that later.
- 6:38But you may be wondering, Matthew Robbins, you said he is a writer too.
- 6:41How did he start off with something huge?
- 6:43Like Corvette Summer?
- 6:45Yeah.
- 6:45Oh right.
- 6:45The sequel to the sequel to the Star Wars franchise.
- 6:48Uh, he wrote Close Encounters of the Third Kind Mimic from the mid nineties.
- 6:53You remember that one?
- 6:54Yeah.
- 6:54Probably mistake it with the Relic.
- 6:56Uh, don't Be Afraid of the Dark Crimson Peak and Coming Soon.
- 7:00He wrote Dermo Dar Toro's Pinocchio that's coming out next year apparently
- 7:05with the Voice talents of Kate Blanchet till this went and run.
- 7:08Perlman Christophe, Altoon McGregor, Finn Wolfhard, John
- 7:11Chat Toro, and Tim Blake Nelson.
- 7:14So he wrote some of my favorite movies of all time apparently.
- 7:17That's a pretty great cast for the new Pinocchio movie, by the way.
- 7:20I mean, who knew Corvette Summer would launch this epic career, right?
- 7:25Nobody indeed.
- 7:27Yeah.
- 7:27And then, uh, of course the cast, we have legendary thespian, mark Hamill
- 7:31as Kenneth w Dantley, Jr. This was basically his follow up to Star Wars.
- 7:36Like immediately after, is it before or after the accident?
- 7:39We were trying to figure it out.
- 7:41It would be after if it's after Star Wars.
- 7:43Yeah.
- 7:43Say we've got a little fun fact about it.
- 7:45Both of the film's leads were in car accidents prior to principal photography.
- 7:49The other one, uh, Annie Potts, you might know her best as Janine from Ghostbusters.
- 7:54Woo.
- 7:54This is her feature film debut.
- 7:56She's also designing, well, why does everybody know her best from Ghostbusters?
- 7:59Did nobody watch designing women?
- 8:01I say, yeah, she was on designing women apparently, but you know.
- 8:05Seen that movie, her show or whatever, seven years.
- 8:09Doesn't she a sugar maker?
- 8:11It's gonna happen.
- 8:12Well, she's also like the grandma and Young Sheldon or something
- 8:15now, and no one knows that.
- 8:16Really?
- 8:17I did not know that because nobody watches TV anymore.
- 8:19We stream it all.
- 8:20But to your point, we were looking at this and it's her fourth IMDB credit,
- 8:25but it turns out it's her first movie.
- 8:28And Tanya found something pretty interesting about her being in her first
- 8:31movie and this being her first movie.
- 8:33Oh, there was a Golden Globe Award for a New Star of the Year, which she
- 8:37was nominated for with this movie.
- 8:40Oh.
- 8:41Unfortunately she lost out to, um, somebody I've never heard of.
- 8:45Irene.
- 8:45Irene Miracle from the movie Midnight Express.
- 8:49Oh, I've seen Midnight Express.
- 8:51Yeah.
- 8:51How about that?
- 8:52Let's see.
- 8:52Just proves how terrible the seventies were.
- 8:55We also found out that that award was subsequently removed.
- 8:59Two years later, so it doesn't exist anymore.
- 9:0282, the last one.
- 9:04Yes.
- 9:04They moonlighted that out and, uh, sandal Bergman from Conan the Barbarian
- 9:09was the last to received that award.
- 9:13And then they're like, well, we can't top that.
- 9:15Okay.
- 9:15I would say like, what have we watched?
- 9:17She's the girl from Puppet Master.
- 9:18What?
- 9:18Annie Pots?
- 9:19No, Irene Miracle.
- 9:21Oh, we've seen her in stuff.
- 9:22Oh, oh, okay.
- 9:23Yeah.
- 9:24And she won it for, what, what movie was it?
- 9:26Midnight Express.
- 9:26Express.
- 9:27Oh, Vanna Express.
- 9:28Oh, okay.
- 9:29You confused it with Pineapple Express.
- 9:30I, I got it.
- 9:31It's all or Sugarland Express or Gold Express.
- 9:35Express, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:38She was the, uh, the Tom Hanks, CGI thing.
- 9:40Right?
- 9:41Yeah.
- 9:42She was the bear.
- 9:43I think, well, if we're talking trivia too, mark Hamill, right?
- 9:46I, I don't even think of him as Luke Skywalker anymore.
- 9:49When somebody says Mark Hamill, I immediately think the Joker from Batman.
- 9:52Oh, right.
- 9:53Batman, the animated series.
- 9:54Okay, guys, I'll throw this out there.
- 9:56Mark Hamill, especially in this movie, he's an okay looking guy,
- 10:00but he's like, oh, he's not, he's like, Ron Howard, like, Hey, he is a.
- 10:04Weird, awkward looking team.
- 10:06Look, thank God he got a career as a voice actor.
- 10:09Well, this probably why he got a career as a voice actor.
- 10:12'cause who wanted him to be the leading man in Hollywood movies.
- 10:16He just, obviously George Lucas, well, you gotta consider the audience be the
- 10:21best looking guy at a church potluck.
- 10:23Somebody said it and I don't remember who it was.
- 10:25He's a weird looking dude and he's an ugly woman, like he can't do either one.
- 10:30He was an ugly young man, which he wasn't that young in this movie,
- 10:34but he was an ugly young man heading towards middle age, but he's actually
- 10:38a much better looking older man.
- 10:40So he's like finally, after.
- 10:4250 years aged into himself.
- 10:44Meanwhile, the best of us mean Annie Pots.
- 10:47Holy cow.
- 10:49Wow.
- 10:50Wow.
- 10:50What a looker.
- 10:51Annie Pots can get it.
- 10:52Yeah.
- 10:52She is a, she is a goddamn cutie in this movie.
- 10:55I'm not.
- 10:57She, she reminded me of like a mini me version of Sigourney Weaver from Alien.
- 11:01Mm-hmm.
- 11:01She kind of had that with the hair and everything.
- 11:03She had that very like petite kinda, but Sigourney weaver's like eight feet tall.
- 11:07So I was thinking, I was thinking, what's her face from, uh, my cousin Vinny?
- 11:12She had that kind.
- 11:13Oh, Marissa's home.
- 11:14Yeah.
- 11:14I see that.
- 11:14Yeah.
- 11:14We need to do an episode just on leading ladies.
- 11:18Do an episode apparently just on Wafi Burnetts.
- 11:22There you go.
- 11:23We'll talk about her costumes as we go along as well, because I got, which
- 11:26one is the, the, uh, as the drive through lady or as the prostitute
- 11:30in training, or as the carwash or whatever, however many 50 million jobs
- 11:34she had at the beginning of this movie.
- 11:36I love her hustle.
- 11:38It was, it was good.
- 11:39Gotta respect it.
- 11:40Respect the hustle.
- 11:41I mean, shows up as a bong girl towards the end, right?
- 11:44Yeah, yeah.
- 11:44Excuse me.
- 11:45Do I know you?
- 11:47All right.
- 11:47So we start off, of course, in everybody's favorite location, the junkyard.
- 11:52Woo.
- 11:53Just, just looking at all these prime sixties and seventies cars just stacked
- 11:57on top of one another like hamburgers.
- 11:59I love how they're in their prime.
- 12:01In the junkyard.
- 12:02Yeah.
- 12:03The prime of when cars were made that, that opening scene.
- 12:07I know Dan got super excited, like, you know, he was, he was, all, his
- 12:11blood pressure was all the way up.
- 12:13He was looking for parts for his car, a thousand percent.
- 12:16Right.
- 12:16But I'm sitting there looking at this going, oh my God, this is gonna
- 12:19be like other seventies movies.
- 12:21It had that grainy look to it, you know, the way they
- 12:24filmed it back then and mm-hmm.
- 12:26With the music.
- 12:27And I'm just like, what are we doing in this?
- 12:28And I'm like, oh God, I'm preparing for an hour and 44 minutes of torture.
- 12:33I'm just like, oh boy.
- 12:34Oh, come on.
- 12:35The, the soundtrack was pretty funky.
- 12:36I liked it.
- 12:37You song the glitter.
- 12:39The glitter was.
- 12:39Touch.
- 12:40Oh yeah, the sound.
- 12:41Oh my God.
- 12:41I, the soundtrack was a hundred percent John Carpenter.
- 12:44I made a note that the soundtrack did not fit the movie at all to me.
- 12:48Oh, sorry.
- 12:49None of the scenes watched soundtrack.
- 12:51We watched two movies today.
- 12:52My brain stopped working.
- 12:53Yeah, we, we, we watched Shadow in The Cloud came out last year, by the way.
- 12:56Very interesting movie.
- 12:57But yeah, that's the John Carpenter one.
- 12:59Sorry, my brain slammed the family stone or, so something that's, I'm
- 13:02gonna quiz Dan, what was in the crusher before he found the Corvette?
- 13:06Were you paying attention?
- 13:07Are you talking about the Rambler?
- 13:08Oh, ding, ding, ding, ding.
- 13:09That's easy.
- 13:10It set it on the front of the car.
- 13:11You got, I wanted to see if he paying attention.
- 13:14It was spelled out for him.
- 13:16Joe Dirt spent a lot of time try trying to track down a ram.
- 13:18All right, well, apparently Mark Hamill spends a lot of time tracking
- 13:21down a Corvette, so here we go.
- 13:24I love the fact that the second line in the movie was, there's a Volkswagen,
- 13:29we could turn it into a buggy.
- 13:31Do buggy.
- 13:32I did, I did notice that.
- 13:33Nothing foreign, but I, I gotta, I gotta be honest.
- 13:37Of all the times, and Dan could probably say this too, that
- 13:40we've spent in junkyards, even as kids before we knew each other.
- 13:43I have never seen a Corvette in the junk yard.
- 13:45Yeah, it's true.
- 13:45I I've never seen one.
- 13:47I've seen a couple Camaros, but yeah.
- 13:49No Corvettes.
- 13:49Yeah, no Corvette.
- 13:50So I, I'm already suspending disbelief at this point, right.
- 13:54So let's go from there.
- 13:55I'm gonna say my reason for thinking there's never been any Corvettes in
- 13:59junkyards is 'cause they're fiberglass.
- 14:01They're not worth anything to the junkyard.
- 14:03So people show up with him like they turn, I mean, that thing was pretty roached out.
- 14:08I'm really surprised.
- 14:10This is the car, you know, and he's screaming and, and I think the funniest
- 14:13part of that particular scene is when he gets to the control booth and he's yelling
- 14:16at the guy, he's like, Hey, hey, hey.
- 14:18And both my wife and I are like, just, just hit the freaking button.
- 14:21The button, the button, the red button.
- 14:22Do you see the button?
- 14:24The big red one that says hit here?
- 14:25Yeah.
- 14:26I mean it took forever.
- 14:27But see like that.
- 14:27But that sets us up for that.
- 14:29Like he's this high school kid who's not that good at stuff, but he's good at cars.
- 14:35You're absolutely right.
- 14:35I'm like, what is going on?
- 14:37So, so where do we go from there guys?
- 14:39Basically, uh, you know, Luke Skywalker jumps in at the last minute
- 14:42to save the vet from being crushed and then we go to shop class and
- 14:46uh, we get a nice little montage of like the car being made and, yeah.
- 14:50Yeah.
- 14:51And all I could think was other classes.
- 14:53Luke Skywalker has to build a ten second car for Dom Totto.
- 14:56Yeah.
- 14:57So let's talk about shop class.
- 14:59So Eugene Roche, I guess is how you pronounce his last
- 15:01name, or Rock Roche, I guess.
- 15:04I looked at, I literally turned to my wife 'cause we watched a movie together.
- 15:06I said, isn't that the guy who played the dad on home improvement?
- 15:10Wasn't that like.
- 15:10Jill's dad or whatever, but I mistook him for somebody else.
- 15:13But that guy's been in a ton of movies.
- 15:15Oh yeah.
- 15:16But he has this reputation for kind of being a little skeezy.
- 15:19So I already, I already had something forming in my head as we went
- 15:22along, and I don't wanna spoil it for folks till we get there, but
- 15:25I was like, man, what is going on?
- 15:26Oh, we also get a, get a, see that, uh, a little Kenny,
- 15:29uh, you know, Luke Skywalker.
- 15:31He lives in a trailer park with his mom, and we see her as, she's like getting back
- 15:35from a date or whatever, late at night, and he is been locked outta the house.
- 15:38And then, uh, then we get the little like kiss on the lips between him guys.
- 15:42How old were you when you stopped kissing your mom on the lips?
- 15:44Five.
- 15:45Wow.
- 15:47I was gonna say, my daughters gave up at maybe two,
- 15:53but I, I will not forget that scene.
- 15:55'cause she's like, come here and give mom a kiss.
- 15:57And as soon as they ha my wife goes, what the f damn trailer park people?
- 16:03Boundary boundaries.
- 16:04Boundary issues.
- 16:05It was the seventies.
- 16:06Come on.
- 16:07It wasn't just some short little peck though.
- 16:09There was like some length to that kiss, which was like the creepy part of it.
- 16:12She like grabbed the back of his head.
- 16:13I'm like, what is going on?
- 16:15Oh, Steve, kiss me like I'm your mom.
- 16:17Oh no, God, what?
- 16:19Why would you do that?
- 16:24But I realized something very quickly.
- 16:25There's a parallel between this and a new hope in this movie and in that one.
- 16:30Luke Skywalker doesn't have a dad.
- 16:33Mm. And he kisses a family member.
- 16:34Wait.
- 16:38Yeah.
- 16:38So okay.
- 16:40We find out, he's like failing, I don't know, science or whatever.
- 16:43And you know the teachers are real dick when they spell out
- 16:46D minus M-I-N-U-S on the paper.
- 16:49That's like rubbing it in, right?
- 16:51Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:52And then you go back to the scene where he's in shop again
- 16:54and he is working on now David Carins Death Race, 2000 Corvette.
- 16:58Did you guys see this hood?
- 16:59What was going on?
- 17:00Yeah.
- 17:01Oh yeah.
- 17:02Yeah.
- 17:03It's definitely death race.
- 17:032000. Yeah.
- 17:04Like I kept expecting, uh, fuck, I'm trying to think of
- 17:07a stupid name for a character.
- 17:09Uh, machine Gun Joey or whatever to come out.
- 17:12No, no.
- 17:13Instead you got the annoying friend Danny Ucci coming out.
- 17:16That was the redhead in the movie.
- 17:18Oh yeah.
- 17:18The redhead guy cos or whatever.
- 17:20Yeah.
- 17:22Oh my goodness.
- 17:23I couldn't believe that at first.
- 17:24I was like, what?
- 17:25Who?
- 17:25No, no way.
- 17:27I say, who seen the movie?
- 17:30It was a cameo appearance at, you know, nine years old or whatever.
- 17:33What got me though is, you know, he's doing all this work and
- 17:36people, I have to inform you, as Dan mentioned, Corvettes have been made
- 17:40of fiberglass since the early 1950s.
- 17:43So when he's sanding and doing all this work with no mask on, I'm like,
- 17:48yeah, those are those California laws, you know, that we have now
- 17:51about breathing in things and whatnot.
- 17:52I'm like, dude, this is not cool.
- 17:54What was also, you look so young and youthful
- 17:59and then we, and then have you thought about his health and safety?
- 18:02I did.
- 18:02Right?
- 18:04You're such a dad.
- 18:06It was a big red OSHA stamp on there.
- 18:08No, no.
- 18:09Where's the inspector?
- 18:11Guys, I just wanna let you know our 20-year-old podcast, Mr.
- 18:14Pickles has entered the scene and he's great at unplugging things.
- 18:17Nice.
- 18:17If you hear jingly bells or we just disappear, blame Mr. Pickles.
- 18:21In fact social.
- 18:21We have lots of fans who love Mr. Public.
- 18:23This is Dammit Pickles, correct me.
- 18:25They revealed the car before the giant make out music montage, right?
- 18:30Yeah.
- 18:31Yeah.
- 18:31They, well, they kind of tease it and then, yeah, he does like the lonely walk
- 18:35where he walks by and people are just making out really stationary and slowly
- 18:39as he is walking by and then casually like walks into the prom and I'm like,
- 18:43did you not hear the music or something?
- 18:47But then it was like all over town, like I was, I felt like we were
- 18:50watching like an American in Paris suddenly it's like, why is everybody
- 18:53making out all over the place?
- 18:55Yeah.
- 18:55He walks by the Eiffel Tower and then the leaning tower of Pisa.
- 19:00That street car by, yeah, it's because it was the seventies.
- 19:03So I gotta ask, when they unveiled the car for the first time, opened the garage door
- 19:08and he rolls out in a plume of tire smoke.
- 19:10What did we think?
- 19:11Let's do a round robin knee jerk.
- 19:12What did everybody think?
- 19:13Tanya?
- 19:14Hot trash.
- 19:15Dan.
- 19:15Why Brad?
- 19:16Hot Wheels come to life.
- 19:17Steve and Izzy.
- 19:18What'd you think?
- 19:19What's your gut reaction?
- 19:20Yes.
- 19:24You know what I thought?
- 19:25And this is the nerd in me.
- 19:26I looked at this thing and I go, damn, we just stepped into the Transformers movie.
- 19:30It's hot Rod come to life, right?
- 19:32Yes.
- 19:32Yeah, rod missed my ride.
- 19:34Did it?
- 19:34I had, I had sort of a similar thing, but more a film nerd thing.
- 19:37I was like, I wonder what's faster, that thing or the race.
- 19:40Ooh, nice pull.
- 19:42I was just like, I was watching about that just where my brain went.
- 19:44I'm like, huh, who would win in a race?
- 19:46That, or the race car.
- 19:48Alright.
- 19:49It's not the dynamic hood you've ever seen in your life, but,
- 19:52uh, it'll take in that air.
- 19:54What is the car from the race?
- 19:55I forget.
- 19:56I wanna say it's a Pontiac something.
- 19:57I can't remember.
- 19:57Yeah, it's a SI think that's where the Pontiac ban she came from.
- 20:00Yeah.
- 20:00And it was like a prototype.
- 20:01Yeah, they put a lot of time and money into that 15 second quarter mile Corvette.
- 20:09All right.
- 20:10It's a Dodge M four s. Turbo.
- 20:13Interceptor.
- 20:14Yeah.
- 20:15Yeah.
- 20:15We were all, we were all raw.
- 20:17It's a Mopar.
- 20:18I'm now suddenly proud.
- 20:19Hmm.
- 20:22Uh, well, I guess after he, uh, casually walked into the prom or whatever, the,
- 20:25his, uh, shop teacher saw him there.
- 20:27I guess he was a chaperone or something, and he, uh, falls him back to the shop.
- 20:31'cause I don't know, he either followed him or heard a noise from
- 20:34the prom, I don't know, whatever.
- 20:35But he walks in and is like, oh, that kid's who's going
- 20:37and jerk off on that card?
- 20:39Yeah.
- 20:39He like, oh, you're not sticking your dick in the gas tank again, are you?
- 20:42We don't, just trying to wax budget.
- 20:44We're a public school kid.
- 20:46Well, here, let me, let me give you some whiskey, dick.
- 20:48Let's go drink some scotch in a Dixie cup back here.
- 20:51And, uh, see, he's just trying to save the schools some money.
- 20:54Hey, he had, he was high class.
- 20:55He had 10 prison cups.
- 20:57I'm drinking out of a red solo cup here.
- 20:58People, I mean, come on.
- 20:59No, my mistake.
- 21:00Yeah,
- 21:02I wanna jump on that because.
- 21:05Immediately we paused the movie because my wife goes, hold on a second.
- 21:09This guy's like a senior in high school, junior.
- 21:11Like, we're trying to figure out how old he is at this point.
- 21:13Mm-hmm.
- 21:14And she goes, wait, was alcohol legal at that age in the seventies?
- 21:18And, and it turned into this 20 minute, we're gonna search Google and find out
- 21:21the laws and all this kind of thing.
- 21:22Turns out in 1933, California passed the law that the legal drinking age was 21.
- 21:29So a little nerd fact there.
- 21:31So I was like.
- 21:31Oopsie.
- 21:32You never had the cool teacher who slipped in something little illegal.
- 21:36I think that was a foreshadowing into the character of the teacher
- 21:40that you find out about later.
- 21:42Spoiler alert.
- 21:42Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:43Let's, let's think about this.
- 21:44Uh, cars are also stolen in this movie.
- 21:46Prostitution is fairly rampant.
- 21:48Yeah.
- 21:49There's some illegal things going on.
- 21:51Prostitution's just like a hobby, Luke.
- 21:52That was amazing.
- 21:53Prostitution is like a potential career path for a young woman
- 21:57after she's been an amateur for so long, which basically means whoing.
- 22:01She wants to go pro.
- 22:03That was one of the best lines.
- 22:05What did she say?
- 22:06She goes, uh, she goes to go pro or something.
- 22:10Yeah.
- 22:10She goes, I'm a trainee.
- 22:12Time comes when every amateur goes pro.
- 22:14I'm like, damn, that's awesome.
- 22:16You go girl.
- 22:17Own it, girl.
- 22:18So we're still like kind of in this period of the car is new and hot, right?
- 22:21They're bringing it on the scene.
- 22:23And after I did the whole tra trying to get the transformers imagery
- 22:26outta my head, the next thing that popped into my mind was, why the
- 22:29hell is this thing right hand drive?
- 22:31Bingo, but no fur in cars.
- 22:33We're gonna take it domestic and make it right hand drive.
- 22:36Mm-hmm.
- 22:36But Brad, you found an answer to that, didn't you?
- 22:38I did.
- 22:38It's because Mark Hamill wanted to be able to sit closer to the curb
- 22:42so he could holler at the ladies that is actually written on IMDB.
- 22:46Can you believe that?
- 22:47Mm. By someone who made it up.
- 22:50I'm sure.
- 22:51So does that imply that he actually thought that was a
- 22:54car that should be driven?
- 22:55Around on public roads when the movie wasn't filming.
- 22:59That was probably his personal car.
- 23:00Oh, absolutely.
- 23:01He probably owns that car.
- 23:02Yeah.
- 23:02He had Star Wars money.
- 23:03Baby.
- 23:03Hey baby, you wanna see a Gen Light?
- 23:05See Bought, he bought a Stingray with his Star Wars money.
- 23:09I mean, you think about it, all the young individuals at that time,
- 23:11like Dirk Diggler wanted a Corvette.
- 23:13You know, not that Corvette, who wants a C3 Corvette?
- 23:16Seriously, at that time, it, I would take, I don't understand it looking back, but
- 23:20it was like a lot of the kids at the time, everybody was like, eh, it's a Corvette.
- 23:24Yeah.
- 23:26See that?
- 23:26Or a Pinto, am I right?
- 23:27I, I mean, they modeled the car for the Ambiguously gay duo off of that Corvette.
- 23:32I mean, come on.
- 23:32Right?
- 23:32I mean,
- 23:35oh my goodness.
- 23:36So then we're on this street race scene, like suddenly
- 23:39we're in Fast and The Furious.
- 23:40Yeah.
- 23:41The teacher takes the school build team to the drag races.
- 23:46Drag race is just dragging up and down The strip American calling at
- 23:50Ladies on Your pa, that's a running up and down the strip Friday night,
- 23:53Saturday night in any small town.
- 23:55Back in the day the police were police were standing right
- 23:59in the middle of the road.
- 23:59They didn't care.
- 24:00Can I say something?
- 24:01When they're standing in the middle of the road, it happens
- 24:03like four times this movie.
- 24:04I'm like, okay, get hit him with the car again because it happens later.
- 24:08But, well, it is a death race car.
- 24:09I mean, come on.
- 24:10Right.
- 24:11I've got a pop wrist for you guys though.
- 24:12Did anybody notice what kind of motorcycles the police were riding?
- 24:16Uh, BMW Close.
- 24:17Because it is a, a foreign motorcycle.
- 24:20It's a Mo Guzzi.
- 24:21It was a Mo Guzzi.
- 24:22I was gonna say a Triol motor.
- 24:23No, it was a Mo Guzzi.
- 24:24It's Ian.
- 24:25Well, I I got a quiz for you then too, if you remember it since you were
- 24:28talking about Mark Hamill leaning out the window of the Corvette pulling up
- 24:31to the curb when he pulled up the curb.
- 24:33Is that how he lost his arm for Empire Space?
- 24:35Yeah.
- 24:35Yeah, a thousand percent.
- 24:37Did you spot the car that was behind him?
- 24:39I'll give you a hint.
- 24:40It was white the first time they showed the car from the aerial view when
- 24:44he was downtown for the drag race.
- 24:47Challenger from, uh, vanishing Point, Alvis Gray lady.
- 24:51It is Carmen Gia, the only car built in Canada.
- 24:54Bricklin.
- 24:55That's not the only car that was built in Canada though, cama?
- 24:58No, no.
- 24:58The only car that has ever been manufactured from Canada, not
- 25:02built in, assembled in Canada.
- 25:03Oh, okay.
- 25:05But anyway, moving on.
- 25:07The drag races were terrible.
- 25:08Yeah.
- 25:08Well, yeah.
- 25:09So yeah, I love the burnout before the drag race too.
- 25:11And then you launch during a burnout.
- 25:14That's That's a great way to go really fast.
- 25:16Yeah.
- 25:16That's how you go faster.
- 25:17Come on.
- 25:18Anybody who's ever stood in a parking lot knows burnouts are
- 25:21how guys measure their dicks.
- 25:23I mean, go faster.
- 25:24I don't, I don't know what I'm saying on those bias ply.
- 25:29Well, I, I'm just amazed by the fact that it didn't kick the ass in sideways over
- 25:33into the car next to it as you launched.
- 25:35I, I was thinking the same thing.
- 25:36As a matter of fact, the stunt driver was amazing.
- 25:38You did.
- 25:39It didn't have enough power that walking 200 horsepower outta that
- 25:438008 8 liter V eight Corvette.
- 25:47Oh, it's so true.
- 25:48It's so true.
- 25:49So in the movie, uh, the teacher sends, uh, one of the guys in the car to like,
- 25:53go pick up eight large Cokes and a Sprite for me, and remember, take the
- 25:56keys with you and blah, blah, blah.
- 25:58And it just shows him like walking away, like not listening or whatever.
- 26:01I'm like, is he gonna leave the keys in the fucking car?
- 26:03Nope.
- 26:03But yeah, it got stolen.
- 26:05And like hours later he comes walking back with the sodas.
- 26:08I just be like, all right, I gotta leave town.
- 26:09I gotta change my name.
- 26:11Right?
- 26:11Not just walking down with the sodas, but walking down in the
- 26:15middle of a four lane road.
- 26:16I'm like, yeah, they have with nobody else there too.
- 26:19It's la Right.
- 26:20I'm confused.
- 26:21Well, it, it must've been towards the end of the night when the
- 26:23cops chased everybody off.
- 26:24'cause you noticed there was no traffic at the point when he is walking back.
- 26:26Yes, he's, the cops lost enough money on the race that they decided to
- 26:30break it up and send everybody home.
- 26:33That makes way more sense.
- 26:35What's that?
- 26:36Where's my $200?
- 26:37Get your harass in the back of my car.
- 26:39Hey, how everybody outta here ho Are all the cops Irish in la?
- 26:43I don't know.
- 26:44Where were we?
- 26:44Um, so the car was stolen.
- 26:47Oh, Tanya has, Tanya has a fun fact to share.
- 26:50Ooh.
- 26:50Apparently, according to the Corvette Museum, there were actually two of
- 26:53these atrocities that were made.
- 26:55Oh, and one of them as in this photo was actually the traditional hand drive that
- 27:01we are accustomed to in this country.
- 27:03So I'm not sure where that was used in the movie.
- 27:06If there was like maybe that we didn't catch where the
- 27:09driver was on the left side.
- 27:11Oh, you know what?
- 27:12It was probably like all the shots where it was like on the street,
- 27:14street legal, like that was their street legal one maybe Makes sense.
- 27:18Or probably all the shots where the car is actually moving.
- 27:20Yeah.
- 27:21And apparently one of the, I guess they're referencing, I think in
- 27:24this photo, the left hand drive.
- 27:26And then there's a comment that's saying that the other one is in a
- 27:28private collection in Australia.
- 27:30This was as of 2016.
- 27:32Oh.
- 27:32So we know, we still know where this car is.
- 27:34That's kind of cool.
- 27:35But the right hand drive one is in Australia.
- 27:38Yeah.
- 27:39Facts, super fun Facts.
- 27:40It's fun.
- 27:40Fun fact.
- 27:42I'm just curious, do you have a seat?
- 27:46I, this is gonna jump in quite a bit, but I just wanna say when he, spoiler
- 27:51alert, finds the car and they, the guy knows that he's on to him and
- 27:55he says, we gotta paint this car.
- 27:58Yeah.
- 27:58That's gonna hide it.
- 27:59Not the fact that it's, you know, right hand drive, it's one of one.
- 28:03We'll just paint it.
- 28:03You'll never know it's the same car.
- 28:05No, you're looking for a red car, man.
- 28:07This's obviously a gold car.
- 28:08Yeah.
- 28:08You, sorry.
- 28:10So yeah, it's stolen.
- 28:11Kenny like, flips out and like starts beating the shit out of Danny Ucci,
- 28:15which is, you know, whatever the most, I love how the cops are just
- 28:18like, well, he kind of deserved it.
- 28:21No assault charges.
- 28:22No, no.
- 28:22We're not pressing any charges tonight.
- 28:25Yeah.
- 28:25Yeah.
- 28:25But I love when he like goes to the cops and is like, Hey, this car
- 28:28got stolen, can help me find it.
- 28:29Like, I don't know, a lot of Corvettes got stolen, blah, blah, blah.
- 28:32No, this is the only one with the hood that looks like Godzilla's back though,
- 28:35so it should be pretty easy to find.
- 28:38So then we get, we get sad.
- 28:40Panda.
- 28:40Luke Skywalker, at that point, he's all mopey and depressed.
- 28:43Right?
- 28:43Mopey and depressed.
- 28:45Okay.
- 28:45This dude looked like he was strung out.
- 28:49I don't know what the entire time either coming down off something or
- 28:55trying to get back up on something.
- 28:57Like he was so wigged out the whole time.
- 29:00It was annoying.
- 29:00He's a hell of a drug.
- 29:01Yeah.
- 29:01He's high on the love of his car.
- 29:03You guys should, uh, like, should know this feeling.
- 29:06We just can't stop thinking about it.
- 29:08You're just lying in bed, like, oh, do you think it thinks about me?
- 29:12I mean, it's, I'm wondering if he had like pink eye in this movie too.
- 29:14Did anyone catch how like one eye was all red on one side?
- 29:17Like, guys, guys, okay.
- 29:18I, I'm gonna, I'll, I'll go to the fun facts again.
- 29:20Both Mark Hamill and Annie Pots were in car accidents
- 29:23prior to principle photography.
- 29:25I mean, maybe it's side effect from that.
- 29:27Apparently.
- 29:28Let's see, pot's got pins in her leg while Hamill got a broken nose.
- 29:31Oh, there we go.
- 29:32Broken nose.
- 29:33That'll do it.
- 29:34Staple it back together.
- 29:35I don't know.
- 29:35Yeah.
- 29:35I seemed to remember he had to have like half his face sewn back on second.
- 29:38Well, he must have been in multiple car accidents.
- 29:40'cause there was articles saying that before New Hope or what
- 29:43is the second stretched back.
- 29:46Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:46That like at the very beginning of the movie, they have whatever monster, like
- 29:49scratch him and basically it hid the fact that his face was disfigured from Yeah.
- 29:52Because they, they had to like, so his face back on.
- 29:55Yeah.
- 29:55I thought would've been, that was a motorcycle motorcycle accident.
- 29:56Would've been, that would've been after this movie though.
- 29:58There was a car accident in Malibu apparently driving
- 30:01that got awful Corvette.
- 30:02That's why.
- 30:02Well, probably that's why I gave the other one to Brian James,
- 30:05his CoStar from this movie and he is living down in Australia now.
- 30:08Oh, that's not a Corvette.
- 30:11Cool.
- 30:11That a Corvette.
- 30:12See what happens.
- 30:12Yeah.
- 30:12Oh yeah.
- 30:13So the cops come by like.
- 30:14Oh yeah, I guess there's a ring of car thieves.
- 30:16I guess your fall fucked 'cause they probably took it to another state.
- 30:19Anyway, have a nice day everybody.
- 30:20Yep.
- 30:20They definitely can never find a car across state lines.
- 30:23Ask me about when my dad bought a stolen jeep on eBay accidentally.
- 30:28Ooh, that's a juicy bit of hot take.
- 30:31Oh, it was like the early days of eBay when you could still like bid on
- 30:34like human hearts and like weird shit.
- 30:36Oh, and he bought a Jeep.
- 30:37The listing was quote like inboxes and it was outta Florida and we
- 30:41were in California and he was like, yeah, I can assemble this.
- 30:43He was, he is a mechanic and he's brilliant at that stuff.
- 30:46He paid a ton of money to have it shipped in.
- 30:48He assembled it and got it running, built it in our driveway, drove
- 30:52it down to go get it registered.
- 30:53Turns out it was stolen.
- 30:54Sheriff's department seized the whole thing.
- 30:56Wow.
- 30:58Oh, he was SOL The old days of eBay or Amazing.
- 31:00I remember when you could buy ad space on women's chest and put your logo on there.
- 31:05It is pretty cool.
- 31:06Oh yeah.
- 31:06With me.
- 31:07Oh, I don't know if you guys are, uh, old enough to remember when that couple
- 31:10like sold their virginity on eBay.
- 31:15Where's the Picard like head in hand demotion right now?
- 31:20I question how much, you know what?
- 31:23I can Google it.
- 31:24What, what was the final bid?
- 31:25Real sad thing is how we haven't really progressed as a society.
- 31:30Yeah.
- 31:30No, because it would be an NFT now.
- 31:32Like that lady was selling farts in a jar, right?
- 31:34So there you go.
- 31:35Fans only baby.
- 31:37All right.
- 31:37Woo.
- 31:38They're only fans.
- 31:38I don't even know what it's called.
- 31:39All right.
- 31:40They started like, eBay would've been around 1999.
- 31:43The most expensive virginity went for $32,000.
- 31:48Another one went for $12,800.
- 31:51That's a bargain.
- 31:52Yeah, right?
- 31:53It's kind of like what stays in Vegas?
- 31:55Or wait, how does that go?
- 31:57What happens in Vegas?
- 31:57What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
- 31:59So anyway, uh, yeah.
- 32:00What happens here, um, Kenny or whatever is working at the gas station
- 32:04and uh, some guy just comes along one day and he sees the little, uh, you
- 32:08know, have you seen this car thing?
- 32:10He's like, oh yeah, I saw that car.
- 32:11I was over in Vegas.
- 32:12I was a little drunk, but it was sitting on a mirror all ready to be bid on he.
- 32:16Anyway, I gotta go.
- 32:18I'm gonna go in the bathroom and buy a comb for a dime.
- 32:21Guys, did they have comb dispensers in the seventies?
- 32:23Yes.
- 32:24I think that was the guy replenishing the stock for the condoms and the
- 32:27combs and the things like that in the bathroom because he put stuff
- 32:29outta his trunk to take it over and put it in there to refill.
- 32:32Yeah.
- 32:32What were the jugs of hooch or whatever that were in the backseat?
- 32:34It looked like he was like a shine smuggler.
- 32:37I, it was the cleaning materials.
- 32:38I, some of it looked like, some of it looked like bottles of liquor.
- 32:41Yeah, yeah.
- 32:42Yeah.
- 32:42Weird.
- 32:42But anyway.
- 32:43Yeah.
- 32:43So then Mark Campbell's like, oh my God, I gotta hitchhike to Vegas Now, by the way,
- 32:48that's my, my excellent Mark Hamel voice.
- 32:51Ji I, we're gonna go eat some tork converters.
- 32:55Oh, man.
- 32:56Uh, so yeah, along the way he gets picked up by like a, a hearse on
- 32:59hydros that's going 15 miles an hour.
- 33:02And eventually I'd say I love, I love that car, by the way.
- 33:05Right.
- 33:05I like, I like the paint job.
- 33:07Although, so when they're in the car, they're talking about you're a GM man.
- 33:12Wasn't he driving a Buick Riviera?
- 33:14Wasn't that, isnt that what that car was?
- 33:15Yes, it, oh, was that was an old school.
- 33:17It isn't Buick gm.
- 33:18So what Riviera kind of motion is that?
- 33:20Yes, he was the person himself, but I loved the graveyard
- 33:22motif painted on the side.
- 33:24That was cool.
- 33:24Pretty sick.
- 33:25But I will say, I suddenly realized, and my, my wife pointed this out too,
- 33:28she goes, Kenny's kind of a douche.
- 33:30He's, he's a one car man.
- 33:32Like he has no appreciation for other vehicles.
- 33:34And I'm like, did you just say that out loud?
- 33:37Like, who are you?
- 33:38Who did I marry?
- 33:39Right.
- 33:39So I I, I have a very prideful moment at that point.
- 33:42So that scene meant a lot to me at the end.
- 33:44You know, he's, uh, he's got the tunnel vision.
- 33:47He's the only has eyes for her.
- 33:49It's the only woman he is ever loved besides his bomb.
- 33:52So, oh, so that's actually big begs a really good question.
- 33:54'cause in the car community, a lot of us name our vehicles.
- 33:58So what do we think the name of the Corvette is?
- 34:00Or maybe we hold that to the end as we think about this a little bit more.
- 34:03Oh guys, it's in the title.
- 34:04The Corvette's name is Summer.
- 34:05Oh shit.
- 34:07Oh.
- 34:07He's looking for Corvette Summer.
- 34:09Oh, damn.
- 34:10You know, my mind is melted now.
- 34:12It's over the, the working title was Summer, the Corvette.
- 34:15But they're like, that sounds stupid.
- 34:17Switch it up.
- 34:18Corvette, the summer.
- 34:20Get rid of the, yeah.
- 34:20Yeah.
- 34:21Get that outta there.
- 34:25What else could it be like, Yvette?
- 34:27I, oh, I like that.
- 34:29I like that man.
- 34:30Nessa.
- 34:31Oh God.
- 34:32Okay.
- 34:33We're gonna get to Nessa.
- 34:35I'm like, oh fuck.
- 34:36That's the name.
- 34:37This movie should have been, oh, I was like.
- 34:39Honey, are we doing this for the Grind Bin podcast?
- 34:42That was the sequel that nobody watched.
- 34:44Vanessa.
- 34:45Oh, I would watch Vanessa.
- 34:47We have I would too lot of seventies van movies.
- 34:50Okay guys.
- 34:51And it ends with her having to get a job as a receptionist in New York.
- 34:54Boom.
- 34:54Ghostbusters prequel.
- 34:56I quit.
- 34:56Bit of jobs in this.
- 34:58There you Jan Origins.
- 35:00Oh, I like that real name.
- 35:03It's Shannon.
- 35:04So anyway, yeah, they're going like 15 miles an hour.
- 35:06He is like, Hey, can we go a little faster for God's sakes?
- 35:08And he is like, oh man, we're all about class, not speed.
- 35:11And he is like, cool, I'm just gonna step outta this car real.
- 35:13And he, hi.
- 35:14Like, we're going to Tijuana, like, aren't you excited?
- 35:17And, and it's like, no, you said you were gonna Vegas, that's why he jumped in.
- 35:21Yes.
- 35:21Yeah.
- 35:21Like Los Amos.
- 35:22And I'm like, that's not what he, what are they going somewhere else Now?
- 35:26We're gonna bunny hop to Mexico.
- 35:28Apparently.
- 35:28Is he gonna be human traffic yet?
- 35:30I think he was gonna like lose a kidney.
- 35:32My wife being the nerd that she is, sometimes she goes 15 miles an hour.
- 35:36It's like a 300 mile trip to LA to Vegas.
- 35:39Right.
- 35:39So that's like, they're gonna spend the whole day hopping, you know?
- 35:42But like you said, bunny hopping their way to Las Vegas.
- 35:45Ugh.
- 35:45Brutal.
- 35:46He will run out of gas past ZI guarantee it.
- 35:49I I like how the one scene as they pull away, as he got out the car,
- 35:52one car starts to bounce and you can see the front of his start
- 35:54going towards the side of the road.
- 35:55'cause the guy can't keep it straight as it starts to move.
- 35:57Yeah.
- 35:59The back almost reared all of 'em.
- 36:01It was, they were like being followed by like a gremlin or something and
- 36:03like that guy slammed on the brake.
- 36:05But this begins.
- 36:06The Epic.
- 36:07Epic.
- 36:08Just waterfall of Annie Pot's one-liners.
- 36:12Oh yeah.
- 36:13'cause she's so good in this guy.
- 36:14She is like the shining light in this movie.
- 36:17Every scene with her is magical.
- 36:19Yeah.
- 36:19So he is, uh, walking along the side of the road, El Mariachi style, and
- 36:23a van pulls over, gives a little honk, honk, opens up and she's
- 36:26got headphones on and just yelling gibberish for whatever reason.
- 36:30I don't know.
- 36:31So you got your Luke Skywalker impression.
- 36:33I'm gonna do my best Annie pot.
- 36:35So here we go.
- 36:35Oh shit.
- 36:36Here we go.
- 36:36Silence everybody.
- 36:37Silence Dr. Bankman.
- 36:39Dr. Bankman, if you're gonna hitchhike, you gotta stick something out.
- 36:46Nailed it.
- 36:48So yeah, we find out her name's, uh, or, or no, we don't,
- 36:51we don't find out her name.
- 36:52She's like, oh yeah, I'm going to Vegas.
- 36:53And, uh, if you really wanna appreciate the van, look in the back.
- 36:57You like, kind of get a peek back there.
- 36:58It's like, is that a bed and, oh yeah.
- 37:00Like a four post bed.
- 37:02What the hell's going on back there?
- 37:03It's, it's not just a bed though.
- 37:05It's a Walmart bed.
- 37:06Yeah.
- 37:06We find out it's a fully tricked out bedroom with like a fridge
- 37:09and Oh, red lighting and red shag carpeting up the walls.
- 37:14Ugh, there's a fridge.
- 37:16Like, I could live in this van.
- 37:17I won't lie.
- 37:18I know that this van smells like wet dogs.
- 37:21I know this.
- 37:22And thousand percent I still would live in this van.
- 37:26Wet dogs is a lot better smell than what I was anticipating.
- 37:28It smelled like with her line of work.
- 37:30Hey, now, hey, now.
- 37:30Family show, family show saying, so these, the, these kinds of vehicles
- 37:35always end up smelling like a wet dog.
- 37:37They just always do well, it was like every airplane scene
- 37:41you've ever seen in TV or movie.
- 37:42I'm like, they're not that big in real life.
- 37:44It's like the tardis, right?
- 37:45It's bigger on the inside, right?
- 37:47The outside.
- 37:48It's like, how is that on the road?
- 37:49You know what though?
- 37:50Annie Pots is tiny and so is Mark.
- 37:53What is it?
- 37:53And Mark Jam's not very big.
- 37:54No, no.
- 37:55This might be real van size.
- 37:59Like that show on, uh, what is it?
- 38:00A e like little houses or whatever.
- 38:02Like people live in the micro houses.
- 38:03Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:05Or li like our producer hero will remember this.
- 38:07The little poll.
- 38:08Pocket vans and Polly could like live in the whole like Polly Pocket's,
- 38:12like three centimeters tall.
- 38:13And she can live in her van.
- 38:15That's, that's Annie Pots here.
- 38:17She's got horses in the back.
- 38:19You know, you guys heard it here.
- 38:20Annie Pott.
- 38:21Star of Polly Pocket.
- 38:22Dude, I would pay good money for that.
- 38:25Make it happen.
- 38:26Internet Live Action, Polly Pocket 2023.
- 38:30We just pay any pots to live in a van for a week.
- 38:33Turn into web series.
- 38:35Did the modified vans during that timeframe was a big thing.
- 38:38And like I remember growing up, I'm like, it's not now.
- 38:41Well, I would say it was different then.
- 38:43Now it's become more necessity, but then it was like people had
- 38:46their home and then they still tricked their van out like that.
- 38:48So I had a strong appreciation.
- 38:50It reminded me of like my childhood, different people I knew that
- 38:53had vans like that and stuff.
- 38:54Oh, there's a lot whole genre of movies about it too.
- 38:56Yeah.
- 38:56Like it, it, it's like the big trucker thing back then.
- 38:59It, there's like at least seven or eight movies we've
- 39:01seen and many more We haven't.
- 39:02Like I said, we've seen a lot of van movies.
- 39:04I was not being facetious, whether it's the Van Van Nuy
- 39:08or it was a Van Nuys Boulevard.
- 39:09The Super van.
- 39:10Super van It Super van too, right?
- 39:13Yeah.
- 39:13Yeah.
- 39:13I think there was a sequel too.
- 39:14Despite being a respray of the A team van, I have to say, much like Annie
- 39:19Potts, every time the van came on the scene, I was double thumbs up.
- 39:23It's the best looking vehicle.
- 39:25In this movie, hands down and it fits her personality.
- 39:27It's beautiful.
- 39:28She's super cute and it just, it all works.
- 39:31It, it's all her.
- 39:32Indeed, indeed.
- 39:33We had a camper van for a little bit when I was a kid again.
- 39:36My dad bought and sold like swap vehicles a lot and we, we had
- 39:39like an in from eBay sometimes.
- 39:42No, it was more of a Here take it before the cops find out where
- 39:44I found Oh, oh, gotcha, gotcha.
- 39:46Sometimes like, oh no, that thing's got like a blown head.
- 39:49It won't ever drive.
- 39:50And he is like swaps apart out and drives it home and makes everybody mad.
- 39:53I don't know.
- 39:54But we had, we, we did have like a seventies van and the backseat folded
- 39:57out into a little bed and it had a little sink that leaked all over the place.
- 40:01A wet dog smell, totally smelled like a wet dog.
- 40:04Uh, made farting noises when you tried to shift gears.
- 40:07I was like six when we had this thing.
- 40:09You grind until you find it, grind until you find it.
- 40:10And we called it the orange crate.
- 40:12Nice.
- 40:13That was also my mom's daily driver for a while.
- 40:15Uh, 'cause my dad took the Crown Victoria.
- 40:17Oh, lucky.
- 40:19So anyway, we find out this young lady, she's going to Vegas and
- 40:22she has aspirations of becoming a, uh, professional prostitute.
- 40:26And she's saying this like, while she's driving this van and like
- 40:28drinking Olympia and like, oh yeah, she's popping an Olympia.
- 40:32And yeah.
- 40:33And she's like, ah, you're gonna have a cute guy.
- 40:35You, you probably know about girls like me.
- 40:37Right.
- 40:37Go look.
- 40:37Look like you can be my first client.
- 40:41Oh, my first custom, uh, how much do you think I'm worth?
- 40:44I, gee, I don't know.
- 40:46Um, gee, Wilker $15.
- 40:4915. What do I look like?
- 40:51Do I look like a ho?
- 40:53I, I'm at Finn.
- 40:55You meant 50.
- 40:55You meant 50.
- 40:55Alright.
- 40:56Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:56I'll take 50.
- 40:58I ain't got no $50.
- 40:59Get the fuck outta my van.
- 41:01I'm a high school kid.
- 41:02Get the fuck outta my van.
- 41:03But you never told me your name.
- 41:05Check the side of the van.
- 41:10Roll Red Stone.
- 41:12What do we think of this movie?
- 41:13I stopped watching.
- 41:16So you've had to go take a cold shower?
- 41:19I gotta take a cold shower right now.
- 41:21Credits roll.
- 41:22That's it.
- 41:25I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna lie.
- 41:26I chuckled when they shut that door and it said, Vanessa, I heard my wife like Gaw.
- 41:31And I'm just like, wow.
- 41:32We are in for a ride.
- 41:34And then I realized we're 35 minutes into the film.
- 41:37Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:38I checked the time too.
- 41:39It was like, holy shit.
- 41:41We're not even a third of the way through this movie.
- 41:42We just, this is gonna be kidding.
- 41:44Started.
- 41:46Yeah.
- 41:46So he like goes into the Hilton and is like asking bartenders and shit.
- 41:49Oh, but wait, but wait, you forgot.
- 41:50One of the best lines that Annie Pots gives.
- 41:52I'm gonna have Izzy say it for us.
- 41:54Oh.
- 41:55Oh, which one is that?
- 41:56I'm a hook for Christ's sake.
- 42:00He was better when you did it.
- 42:01I'm sorry.
- 42:02Yeah.
- 42:02Okay.
- 42:03Yeah.
- 42:03A master impersonator needs to step in from time to time.
- 42:05You know,
- 42:08there is another one that goes along that with that one and it's my favorite.
- 42:11And she turns to him as they're, he's, he's like asking her about Why are
- 42:15you going to prostitute, blah blah.
- 42:17And she goes, I'm a trainee.
- 42:19Time comes when every amateur goes pro.
- 42:21And I'm like, whoa, what just happened?
- 42:26Look, she's a woman who knows what she wants.
- 42:28She's gonna get it.
- 42:29Look back in my hometown, I've seen miles of peka.
- 42:31I'm ready to set my game up.
- 42:34I know that's how I felt after, after art school.
- 42:36Like I just seen so much Dick, I should be prostitute.
- 42:42Show us the origin story.
- 42:43All right, so.
- 42:45So then, uh, yeah, he's like asking around and, oh, that's right.
- 42:48He gets like, uh, robbed by the, uh, the guy that walks up like,
- 42:51Hey, hey, you look like a winner.
- 42:53You look like a winner.
- 42:53Hey, why don't you buy this necklace here?
- 42:55Some of these diamonds are even real.
- 42:57Oh, no thanks.
- 42:58No, thanks.
- 42:58I don't wanna, I don't, uh, good.
- 43:00All right.
- 43:00Cool, cool, cool.
- 43:01Well, have a nice day, sir. I gotta find a car.
- 43:03Have you seen this car?
- 43:04Uh, no.
- 43:05Oh, wait.
- 43:06Maybe.
- 43:07Maybe it's a little bit Circus Circus or something.
- 43:09Oh my God.
- 43:09The circus.
- 43:09Circus.
- 43:10I need a car.
- 43:11And then we find out it's a fucking Dotson.
- 43:13Right?
- 43:14Steve pointed out it's a Dotson Circus.
- 43:16Circus.
- 43:17Is the only hotel still on the strip?
- 43:20Yeah.
- 43:20Oh, all the old Vegas shots here from like 78.
- 43:23I'm like, well, circus Circus is the only one still around.
- 43:26It's still around, right?
- 43:27Yeah, it's I they hose it out least here.
- 43:29A last time was there.
- 43:30I've actually stayed there and I tell you what, that sign, the circus
- 43:33circus sign is super annoying.
- 43:34Nobody sleeps in that casino.
- 43:36It is impossible.
- 43:37You're not supposed to sleep in.
- 43:38Well, that's why the rooms are like.
- 43:39$14 during midweek.
- 43:43That's for the whole day.
- 43:44Imagine per hour.
- 43:45No.
- 43:45So I was gonna say, Steve, was it Circus?
- 43:47Circus where we went in the bathroom and it had been freshly painted except
- 43:51for the ceiling with this buzz platter.
- 43:53Oh, no, no.
- 43:54That was a silver.
- 43:55Yeah, it was on Fremont Street somewhere.
- 43:57Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:58We went and were like, wow, they just painted this room.
- 44:01I could still smell the paint.
- 44:02Pan up.
- 44:03Pan up, like, oh my honey arterial blood splatter up on the ceiling of this place.
- 44:07Is that what I,
- 44:09well, it's not toothpaste
- 44:17fucking shit, babe.
- 44:21I'm hilarious.
- 44:22But when he walks in, at the point when he walks into the casino
- 44:25and walks up to the Dotson, I thought his response was hilarious.
- 44:28He won like all because like from distance he thinks it's his car because
- 44:31got similar look to it and everything.
- 44:33He is like, it's a Dotson.
- 44:36Well, I like how like all the hookers are like, right.
- 44:39Can't even get an American color like honey.
- 44:43Way a
- 44:46So is that before or after they have their fir That's after
- 44:49they have their first fight.
- 44:50They're separated at this point for Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:52They're separated.
- 44:53Yeah.
- 44:53She, she dries off and he runs into the hotel.
- 44:55So before that happens though, I have to comment.
- 44:57Remember we were gonna comment on her wardrobe and style
- 45:01changes throughout the film.
- 45:02This is the first time she gets dressed up.
- 45:04Right.
- 45:04So I, I didn't have a problem with the sequined dress and
- 45:07anything, but she's attractive curly hair the whole nine years.
- 45:10Why did she put on a fro?
- 45:12Yeah, it's like a s the nap, polar dynamite fro Right.
- 45:14Ones have more fun.
- 45:18Well, and for me, what really threw me off was like the pounds of
- 45:21like glitter eye makeup and shit.
- 45:24Yeah.
- 45:24I was like, uh, that's, I, I don't wanna see myself in your eyelids.
- 45:28Get the fuck outta here.
- 45:29I I would like to let everyone in the audience know that Steve hates glitter.
- 45:34Oh.
- 45:34With a passion.
- 45:35Steve works in the hotel industry.
- 45:36Oh, Jesus Christ.
- 45:37Steve will never ever switch a hotel room 'cause he knows how hard everybody works.
- 45:41But we walked in into one hotel room and obviously on the little
- 45:44chair, somebody had had their prom dress and you could see the glitter.
- 45:48He immediately was like, Nope, we're not staying here.
- 45:50Nope.
- 45:50I'm like looking again.
- 45:51Don't touch a fucking thing.
- 45:52We're changing rooms.
- 45:53I'm looking for the blood spatter at the ceiling again.
- 45:55No, it was the glitter blood spatter on the ceiling in the bathroom.
- 45:59Perfectly fine.
- 46:00Glitter on the chair.
- 46:01Deal breaker.
- 46:02We're going to a different hotel bitch.
- 46:04I mean, I can't take credit for this, but I have heard it referred to as the herpes
- 46:08of the crafting world, so absolutely.
- 46:11Oh, you know what we're gonna have to update it to?
- 46:12It's the COVID of the crafting world.
- 46:15Just what you thought.
- 46:16You got it taken care of.
- 46:17That comes back.
- 46:18Look.
- 46:18Oh no.
- 46:19It's the new variant of glitter.
- 46:20Ah.
- 46:21It's on me.
- 46:22It's unicorn or unicorn.
- 46:24Right.
- 46:24Whatever.
- 46:25Look, if I've got glitter and you come and visit me, you have glitter too.
- 46:31I love it.
- 46:31I love it.
- 46:33We all have glitter.
- 46:34If you touch your cat, your cat now has glitter.
- 46:37It's like a, it's like a Oprah episode.
- 46:38And you get some glitter.
- 46:39You get some glitter.
- 46:40No, this is the worst show ever.
- 46:42That's on me.
- 46:45Oh, got it.
- 46:45So, so her sparkly eyes.
- 46:47I could like, feel Steve's asshole.
- 46:49Pickering like, uh, uh, no longer wanna give it, uh, any pots.
- 46:55Can't get it anymore.
- 46:56Maybe, maybe fifteen's too much now.
- 46:58Yeah, I So she's sleeping in her van.
- 47:01Where's Mark Hamill hanging out since they're no longer buddy, buddy.
- 47:05Okay.
- 47:05So he lost his money even just to get food when he finds out
- 47:08he, he has his wallet stolen.
- 47:10Dick Miller comes outta left field and saved a fucking day.
- 47:13Dick Miller.
- 47:14And he is like, I got this buddy.
- 47:15Or he like, flips a coin or something for it, for the, the guy and it's
- 47:19like, yeah, it's my lucky $2 be a hill.
- 47:22I'll pass it on to you buddy.
- 47:23He pulls out like a 50 to the hotdog bender and is like, heads your tails,
- 47:27uh, either to keep the 50 or the kid gets the hotdog and the guy's like,
- 47:30yeah, I'll fucking take that bet.
- 47:32Oh, he loses and he, dick Miller's like, I can't win for losing, come on, or I
- 47:35can't lose for winning or something.
- 47:37What?
- 47:37Okay, he's on a winning streak and Mark Hamill's like, are you driving back to LA?
- 47:41And he is like, oh no, I'm, I'm getting on a plane head and
- 47:43hope I'm about to lose all this.
- 47:45Yeah, yeah.
- 47:46Like 18 grand in 18 hours.
- 47:48I gotta get the fuck outta here.
- 47:49But here you can have this lucky $2 bill of mine.
- 47:51But yeah, he is gotta go sleep in a U-Haul, so, yeah.
- 47:55So well, and the worst thing is he hands over the $2 bill.
- 47:57He says that's what he started out with.
- 47:59Who goes to Vegas with just $2.
- 48:01That's not a smart decision.
- 48:02It's the seventies.
- 48:03Hey, in the, in the seventies.
- 48:04That could get you like, you know, sweet with like breakfast the next morning.
- 48:08I mean that's a circus circus.
- 48:09Absolutely.
- 48:11Probably later this week I'm Googling it.
- 48:15Yeah.
- 48:16I don't know if it's inflation three 50.
- 48:18Yeah, it's no longer two buck chuck.
- 48:21It's like 2 75 or whatever.
- 48:23Babe.
- 48:23They've raised their prices to a whole dollar for eggs.
- 48:26Oh Jesus.
- 48:27He used to be dollar bill, but now he's two.
- 48:30Bill, what's up?
- 48:33So it begged the question though, with these U-Haul.
- 48:35Because I thought it was really comical.
- 48:37Right.
- 48:37They're unlocked, he gets in it.
- 48:39It's just slowly, gracefully, just tips forward.
- 48:41Like, you know, like one of those, those Japanese, like water dipping
- 48:46birds, you're like, all right, cool.
- 48:48Yeah.
- 48:49And, and my wife and I looked at each other and go, are there people
- 48:51sleeping in the rest of them?
- 48:53They're all nose down, right?
- 48:54I'm like, come on.
- 48:56Like you had to see somebody do it.
- 48:58We've already established it.
- 48:59It didn't nose down.
- 49:00It went back.
- 49:01When he got in it, the weight went to the back.
- 49:02They were all tilted the same direction once he went in there.
- 49:05So I was like, no, no, no.
- 49:06His, his went back.
- 49:07Maybe I'm just in the, in the scene.
- 49:08I mean, eventually it was down, but I admire how closely you all
- 49:12were paying attention to this movie physics, because I did see the U-Haul.
- 49:16Physics.
- 49:17I did see him enter the U-Haul and that's it.
- 49:20They spent like 10 extra seconds showing the trailer tilt.
- 49:24I think I looked away probably.
- 49:27She was already do off and she was checking her email.
- 49:30What's on Reddit?
- 49:32You guys were talking about the size of the van with them inside,
- 49:35how it looked so much bigger when they actually show him in the U-Haul
- 49:38writing the note to his teacher.
- 49:40Okay.
- 49:40That definitely wasn't inside that little six by eight U-Haul.
- 49:43What?
- 49:45I think it was on a sound stage or something?
- 49:47Yeah.
- 49:48Oh, okay.
- 49:49So yeah, the next part he said there was a Dotson or whatever and
- 49:52he is getting ready to go home.
- 49:54He is gonna hitchhike his way back to LA and then this hot blonde chick pulls up in
- 49:58like a Cadillac or something like to pick him up and he is like about to hop in.
- 50:02I'm like, alright, this adventure is about to get a little interesting.
- 50:05But then along comes the Corvette, Hey, hey, that's my car.
- 50:09And he's like, jumps outta that car immediately and goes right after.
- 50:11And I'm just wondering like.
- 50:13Let's go back to the blonde chick.
- 50:14What, like, what's, what's her story?
- 50:15What's going on?
- 50:17Like, she just seemed like a nice girl.
- 50:18I dunno, that was way more believable than him chasing a Corvette doing 60 on foot.
- 50:23On foot.
- 50:24Yeah.
- 50:24Yeah.
- 50:24I'm, I'm amazed how well he kept up for it as long as he did to where it's heading
- 50:28out on the outskirts into the desert.
- 50:29I not, it was a seventies Corvette.
- 50:31I'm not surprised he could keep up with it on the flight.
- 50:35The, the, the most unbelievable part is in the first five steps of him chasing it.
- 50:39He's hit by a car, right?
- 50:41Like he's hit rolls over the hood and like keeps on running.
- 50:45I'm like, yeah, there's no way you're hobbling that fast.
- 50:48No, that's parkour, man.
- 50:50He's, he's just, oh, it's James Bond logic.
- 50:53It makes him faster.
- 50:55You lean into the fall.
- 50:57I love how he's in the head.
- 50:57It makes him stronger.
- 50:58Yeah.
- 50:58I love how he's in a city he's never been before and he's taking
- 51:01all these shortcuts and back roads.
- 51:03Like I know where I'm gonna go, I know where he's going.
- 51:05I'm going this way and I'm gonna.
- 51:06Feed em.
- 51:07We can go here through the U-Haul C.
- 51:10Yeah, I thought I was watching that Sunny in Philadelphia episode where
- 51:12during they're doing the badass videos, like that's what it felt like.
- 51:15Oh yeah.
- 51:16Like what are we doing?
- 51:18You know though, like where he gets hit by the car and keeps running.
- 51:21This was like the first scene where I really was like, these
- 51:23stunt guys are working hard.
- 51:25Oh yeah.
- 51:25They're not lighting a bunch of shit on fire if you pay attention.
- 51:28These stunt guys are earning their paycheck.
- 51:31Some good driving on the budget in this film.
- 51:32Yeah, there's some really good driving.
- 51:34There's some really good stunt work that like this movie almost
- 51:37doesn't deserve, but it does because this is why we love these kinds of
- 51:41movies, guys that work way too hard.
- 51:43It was still more budget than the original Gone in 60 seconds, but
- 51:46I'm gonna leave that where it is.
- 51:47We've talked about that before.
- 51:50I'll say there's one point later on in the movie where you can see.
- 51:55The roll bar running up the A pillar of the Camaro, but it's only for
- 51:58one scene where you can see it.
- 51:59That's like the six point harness that he was wearing at the end.
- 52:02But I was gonna save that till later.
- 52:03It's like, where the hell that, where's all this safety here suddenly?
- 52:06What's this all about?
- 52:08Look, look, I was willing to look, we'll get to it, but I
- 52:10was willing to look past it.
- 52:11'cause it's been in a chop shop for the last entire summer.
- 52:15Somebody could have put a six point harness in it at any point, because
- 52:18that's what they do with chop shots.
- 52:20They add parts to the car.
- 52:21Yeah, yeah.
- 52:22At this particular one, it appears that they do, they just repaint them
- 52:25and sell 'em this high-end vehicle.
- 52:27So it's true, it true that way.
- 52:29It's the shop truck.
- 52:32They take this cor corvette and make it completely sex proof.
- 52:36Oh, that's the girl Shriver chop shop where I just paint it, go look,
- 52:40I want a Corvette, but I want one where when women look at it, their
- 52:43vaginas become the Sahara Desert.
- 52:47So you want a Corvette.
- 52:50Specifically a C3 quarter padlock.
- 52:52Like plain quack.
- 52:53Like I want the prostitutes on the boulevard to say, not for me sweetie.
- 52:59Where's that Volkswagen?
- 53:01I'm sure you're a nice boy.
- 53:06Go back to your mother.
- 53:07Yeah, so, so yeah, he's chasing after the Corvette, he like cuts through,
- 53:12I don't know, the Neon Sign Watch.
- 53:14Yeah, the Neon Sign Museum.
- 53:16That's like 10 miles outside of town.
- 53:19Oh my God.
- 53:20Do you know what I said when I saw this?
- 53:21I got, I actually got really excited.
- 53:23I sat up and I went, Mike Wolf from American Pickers would
- 53:26be flipping out right now.
- 53:28See all these, these signs?
- 53:29He'd be like, oh my God, I'm gonna come take all my money
- 53:34so that, that's a museum.
- 53:35If you guys ever had a chance to go to Las Vegas, that's the Neon Sign Museum.
- 53:38Oh, I didn't realize it is eight miles outside of town.
- 53:42Well, well they, by then I think it was just where signs were like, no, no, no.
- 53:46Oh, no, no.
- 53:47It's been, or something.
- 53:48It was a neon sign junkyard.
- 53:50It's, yeah.
- 53:51Yeah, exactly.
- 53:51It's been like a museum where it's like, yeah.
- 53:54An empty lot where a guy like would take in all these signs
- 53:56and give them a good home.
- 53:57The way the Rabbit Museum in Los Angeles is a museum and definitely
- 54:01not just a gal who hoards rabbit stuff in our garage and charges
- 54:04people $2 a person to walk through it.
- 54:06And then it was like, oh shit.
- 54:08People actually miss Old Vegas.
- 54:10We're gonna give you museum status.
- 54:11Yeah, yeah.
- 54:12It's kinda like, uh, that junkyard at the beginning of the movie.
- 54:14Mm-hmm.
- 54:14They went through and like, Hey, we can turn this into an automobile museum.
- 54:17It was just a little paint.
- 54:18If you had frozen elbow grease, if you had frozen that junkyard
- 54:21in time and reopened it.
- 54:23Today car folks, how much would you guys pay to walk through
- 54:26that junkyard with those cars?
- 54:28$0. I wouldn't pay anything to walk through a junkyard.
- 54:31Now, many you take yard, take that one with all those cars, we get to go
- 54:36to Chaz's Car Museum for free, right?
- 54:40Or Daniel's backyard In Daniel's car Museum slash
- 54:43mountain slash nature preserve.
- 54:48That's why you own a mountain.
- 54:49So I doubt Izzy, I think that was what you would call a a, a. What was that?
- 54:53A super fun fact.
- 54:54But in our side, what would it be?
- 54:56Tanya?
- 54:56Hot garbage.
- 54:58Hmm.
- 54:59I prefer fun facts.
- 55:00Super fun facts because they fun facts
- 55:06and I know he'll never listen to this, but it's definitely not an interesting tidbit.
- 55:09Brandon,
- 55:12here's an interesting tidbit.
- 55:15Take that.
- 55:16Take that.
- 55:16You Canadian.
- 55:17So wow.
- 55:19Name Canada.
- 55:23Alright, so that night he's back at his U-Haul writing letters to home
- 55:26and I'm like, oh, remember them days?
- 55:28Nope.
- 55:28So then not just letters to home stamp.
- 55:30He was writing love letters to his shop teacher.
- 55:33Shop teacher.
- 55:34Yeah.
- 55:34Right.
- 55:35They weren't love letters, they were longing letters.
- 55:38They were postcards.
- 55:39For someone who had no money, how did he afford the postcards and the postage?
- 55:43Yeah.
- 55:43For somebody who was not paying attention, how did Tanya know it was postcard?
- 55:48Yeah.
- 55:48Right.
- 55:49Guys, all you need is like a what?
- 55:51Four by six piece of paper and a probably 3 cents stamp back then.
- 55:55Like it's affordable.
- 55:56Oh yeah.
- 55:56Like a penny.
- 55:57Maybe he had that $2 bill goes a long way.
- 56:00He still has it, but he never, never broke it.
- 56:01Yeah, true.
- 56:02And he probably found enough change on the rip, like running
- 56:05around those back alleys.
- 56:06Chasing his car to be able to pay for a stamp.
- 56:09He was selling, uh, gazes of the $2 bill for two bits of ganda.
- 56:12And, uh,
- 56:15so, so anyway, that, uh, that van pulls up Vanessa, Vanessa, and, uh, and she comes
- 56:23out and he's, he's wrapped up in like a, a fucking packing blanket or something.
- 56:27Yeah, it's one of the, it's one of the moving blankets.
- 56:29Yeah.
- 56:29And she is beat to shit.
- 56:31Yeah.
- 56:32This is where I was like, oh no, this, this movie's about
- 56:34to take a dark turn down.
- 56:36I was thinking the other belly of Vegas, he's gonna have to
- 56:39rough up some pimps and stuff.
- 56:41It's gonna be great.
- 56:42They're gonna have shoes with like fish in the heels.
- 56:45No ba basically he is just like, oh, here, let's, yeah, you can use the men's
- 56:48room and get cleaned up in there's, because the women's room was locked.
- 56:50And I'm like, she looks and was like, I like ya Shaw.
- 56:58And then she is like, well, if he is sleeping a U-Haul, you can
- 57:01just sleep in the van with me.
- 57:02He's not gonna do it until she's like, there's food in the fridge.
- 57:05Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 57:06In the fridge.
- 57:06And I'm like, sold, take me.
- 57:08And there's like the fridge.
- 57:09Uh, what else?
- 57:10Oh yeah.
- 57:10And it's a water bed and mm-hmm.
- 57:13And she's just like.
- 57:14Let's, uh, why don't you take them clothes off?
- 57:16Let me see what you got.
- 57:17He's like, well, you, I mean,
- 57:21ma,
- 57:23I gonna sleep on the floor.
- 57:25I'm a good boy.
- 57:26Super awkward.
- 57:28It was so awkward.
- 57:29By the way, this is where I was like, oh, is this really gonna get weirdly
- 57:32progressive and have him be gay?
- 57:34Right.
- 57:34You know, a lot of thoughts cross my mind.
- 57:37Yeah.
- 57:37That thought crossed my mind also is like, wait, did he graduate high school
- 57:41or was he like coming back in the summer?
- 57:44This, this is a question that did not get answered till the end of the movie.
- 57:46Yeah.
- 57:47What grade is he in?
- 57:48Is he a junior?
- 57:50Is he a senior?
- 57:51Yeah.
- 57:52For fuck's sake.
- 57:52As far as we know, he is a freshman then.
- 57:54Yeah, because she mentioned she graduated like a year before or something.
- 57:57Yeah, and Steve, I was talking about it, it was like, well I
- 57:59was 17 when I graduated 'cause of like where my birthday falls.
- 58:02Like I turned 18, like two days later.
- 58:04But like I was like the youngest in my class and it's like he could be
- 58:07like the oldest in his class or he definitely looked it, I thought they
- 58:12discussed that when they were in the van.
- 58:14When she first picked him up.
- 58:16She, he said that he's a senior, I believe.
- 58:18I thought he said just graduated.
- 58:19But also is his conversation with the shop teacher when he has
- 58:24to drink with the shop teacher.
- 58:25The shop teacher, if I recall correctly, talks about, you know, putting a good
- 58:28word in for him to do some work with automotive stuff since he's graduated.
- 58:32Okay.
- 58:32I think we're supposed to make some assumptions.
- 58:34He's at senior prom, but there's also junior prom.
- 58:37Not every school prom, senior prom.
- 58:39I mean, he could've been invited to the prom as a freshman.
- 58:42I don't know.
- 58:42Plus he wasn't, he didn't go to his, he didn't go to, he just
- 58:45showed up in his dirty clothes.
- 58:47Yeah, he just showed up to have the car, his dirty clothes from the whole movie.
- 58:50I'm sorry.
- 58:50He didn't go.
- 58:51He just showed up.
- 58:52That doesn't make sense.
- 58:53Yeah, no, no.
- 58:53He wasn't there for the party.
- 58:54He there for the, didn't know that for, he went stag baby.
- 58:58He went for a different party in shop class.
- 59:01His date was waiting for him.
- 59:02Just not in the gym lady in Red
- 59:10Ladies, if you want this kind of gentleman, you just have to wear
- 59:12pure gasoline as a fragrance.
- 59:14Little red Corvette lady get much too fast.
- 59:18Uh, so yeah, speaking of going too fast, yeah.
- 59:21Annie Potts is putting it down and Oh, I mean, kind of kept her warm.
- 59:24I don't know.
- 59:26She was open for business.
- 59:27Yeah.
- 59:28Mm-hmm.
- 59:28Um, but then she's like starting to realize like how awkward he is.
- 59:31Like, wait a minute, oh my God, it's a real honor.
- 59:36I'm gonna be a first.
- 59:37Oh, he's like, what?
- 59:39No, I'm just gonna jerk off here in the corner and go to bed.
- 59:43I actually already came, so I gotta go.
- 59:45That's what I was waiting for.
- 59:48I was waiting for like sitting there and she's like rubbing
- 59:50his shoulders or something.
- 59:51All of a sudden it's like, lotion shot.
- 59:52I'm like, what was that?
- 59:55Nothing.
- 59:55Look over there.
- 59:57He like runs out.
- 59:58No, it would've been like behind the green door to be like, pow, pow.
- 1:00:01Powow.
- 1:00:01You had the slow motion.
- 1:00:0376.
- 1:00:05Fucking 6 million man.
- 1:00:10It definitely wouldn't have been blood splatter on the ceiling in the van.
- 1:00:12Yeah.
- 1:00:13Not that one.
- 1:00:14She's like, no, not on the floor.
- 1:00:19Wow.
- 1:00:19That'll never come out.
- 1:00:22So I just had to have recover.
- 1:00:24So a couple things I appreciate, like, this is a good point, a good opera point.
- 1:00:28She keeps that van super clean, the whole movie.
- 1:00:31She's very good at that and I kind of appreciate how he always looks sweaty
- 1:00:36and greasy, like he hasn't showered and he's been like running around
- 1:00:39and driving a car, the whole movie.
- 1:00:41They're very consistent on that.
- 1:00:42And movies often will keep our lead who's in this kinda situations like too clean.
- 1:00:46So I appreciate that.
- 1:00:47I appreciate that.
- 1:00:48He looked like he'd been driving for 300 miles.
- 1:00:51Okay.
- 1:00:53In a 1970 car.
- 1:00:54I I, I think that was just normal.
- 1:00:55Mark Hamill that Yeah, I think that's just, it was.
- 1:00:57That's his, his normal state.
- 1:00:59Yeah.
- 1:00:59But they didn't clean him up and make him look like Brad Pitt.
- 1:01:01You know?
- 1:01:01They're like, yeah.
- 1:01:02Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:03He's sweaty.
- 1:01:03That's why he looks that way.
- 1:01:04Don't worry about it.
- 1:01:05I mean, he looks sweaty in Star Wars all the time too.
- 1:01:07It's just like, all right, whatever.
- 1:01:08But he's glistening.
- 1:01:09Well, he is on a desert planet most of the time.
- 1:01:11Or a swamp planet hate or a forest planet or an ice planet.
- 1:01:15Yeah, or an ice planet.
- 1:01:17That's the only time he didn't look sweaty.
- 1:01:18He still looked kind of sweaty in that cave though, because he got,
- 1:01:21because he got mauled by a creature.
- 1:01:22Hey would too.
- 1:01:23That's a fucking ice horns and shit.
- 1:01:27When pots.
- 1:01:28Become blue sky Walker.
- 1:01:30I'm fucking dying.
- 1:01:31They're the same person.
- 1:01:33So you remember at the beginning I said, you have to suspend disbelief
- 1:01:36in this movie, which I don't feel like, no, you really have to, but
- 1:01:40I'm still puzzled in how she got so clean just using the men's room.
- 1:01:45So Izzy or Tanya, can you explain to me how one might shower
- 1:01:49in a, in a U-Haul men's room.
- 1:01:51Alright.
- 1:01:52Please tell him about a horse bath.
- 1:01:54Go.
- 1:01:55Tanya, would you like to go first or shall I do the Please?
- 1:01:59Please.
- 1:02:00Now you'll see she brought her own towels.
- 1:02:02Yep.
- 1:02:03And there's a basin of water in every room.
- 1:02:06Usually too.
- 1:02:07In every bathroom in which you can retrieve fresh
- 1:02:10water to wipe yourself down.
- 1:02:12Ah, she had like a shower caddy bucket with her too, I thought.
- 1:02:15Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:15Oh yeah.
- 1:02:16Yeah.
- 1:02:16She had, she had everything, like, she had like a box of wet wipes, I swear.
- 1:02:20Ah, all right.
- 1:02:20See, I thought of, I thought of one angle.
- 1:02:22They, they showed like a shower in that men's room.
- 1:02:25But the weird thing is I can't imagine that small of a building actually having
- 1:02:28a full like bathroom, like a truck stop type bathroom that had a shower in it.
- 1:02:31I'm amazed, amazed.
- 1:02:32It had a sink let, it was not a Bucky's for sure.
- 1:02:34Have you guys like never been in the like weird mechanics bathroom that's.
- 1:02:38Like a shower head just hanging out of the wall, a toilet and a
- 1:02:41sink and there's nothing else.
- 1:02:42And a drain in the middle of the floor, right?
- 1:02:44Yeah.
- 1:02:44And the drain in the middle of the floor.
- 1:02:45Yeah, it's like the half bath.
- 1:02:46Yeah.
- 1:02:46Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:47Drain in the middle of the floor in case you don't even wanna use the
- 1:02:49toilet or the sink or the shower.
- 1:02:51No, no.
- 1:02:51It's to clean up.
- 1:02:52Shower.
- 1:02:53Oh, oh, oh.
- 1:02:55I thought it was like, oh yeah, you can use the toilet.
- 1:02:57Also be over here.
- 1:02:58We, we got RO trip rolls.
- 1:03:00Oh shit.
- 1:03:01Alright, well, my bad, my, my apologies to that, uh, shady ass
- 1:03:06U-Haul place in the outskirts of Vegas.
- 1:03:09By the way.
- 1:03:09You're too tall for a bottom drain.
- 1:03:11You know, you're a sink man.
- 1:03:12I can hit from across the room.
- 1:03:17One thing I say because that's, that's around the time when they first let it be
- 1:03:20known about the, uh, waterbed in the van.
- 1:03:22I just have to say if it wasn't pro an actual water bed in
- 1:03:25there, whatever they did for the suspension in that van was great.
- 1:03:28'cause it wasn't sagging at all.
- 1:03:29And a water bed in there, that thing would've been dragging the bumper.
- 1:03:32That van is primo.
- 1:03:34Yes.
- 1:03:35I almost, they have the Gabriel shocks and the mag wheels.
- 1:03:38Oh yeah.
- 1:03:40Little four inch lift.
- 1:03:41Yeah.
- 1:03:42Yeah.
- 1:03:42It's, it's ready to go.
- 1:03:42Mm-hmm.
- 1:03:43So I, I almost, I almost want Van Nessa more than I want the 18 van and
- 1:03:47I want the 18 van, something fierce.
- 1:03:49So, you know, this is, this is, this is high caliber stuff right here.
- 1:03:52Well, the 18 van comes with its own music too.
- 1:03:59You know what sells me?
- 1:04:00You know what sells me though in the 18th band is the spoiler.
- 1:04:02See if Vanessa didn't have a spoiler.
- 1:04:04But if she had had the 1980s boomerang TV antenna on the back, boom.
- 1:04:10That is killer.
- 1:04:11So you're one of those speed over class guys.
- 1:04:13I get it.
- 1:04:14Yeah.
- 1:04:14Look, Vanessa is still in the seventies.
- 1:04:16She still has time to age into her antenna.
- 1:04:18Uh, that's true.
- 1:04:19That's very true.
- 1:04:20That's also, have you seen super fan?
- 1:04:23I have not.
- 1:04:24But now that you've mentioned it for the 10th time, I have to drink again.
- 1:04:28And I will promise you I'll watch it.
- 1:04:30Drink every time.
- 1:04:31Steven.
- 1:04:31Izzy, bring up an obscure movie.
- 1:04:33You'll Die.
- 1:04:34You'll Die.
- 1:04:35No.
- 1:04:35And you said there were two of this movie, if I recall correctly?
- 1:04:38Yeah, I think it's, I think the second was just called like Superman too.
- 1:04:41Let me check the Google.
- 1:04:42Oh Lord.
- 1:04:44We're the original one's from 77 according to this.
- 1:04:46Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:47That's the one.
- 1:04:47Oh, we also find out, uh, around this time, uh, her Vanessa's
- 1:04:51real name is Eleanor and I've written down, gone In 60 Seconds.
- 1:04:54You hacks.
- 1:04:54Wait, no.
- 1:04:55Um, I agree.
- 1:04:58But then, uh, Skywalker damn, uh, Kenny, Kenny, he, uh, sees the Corvette again
- 1:05:03and he is like, oh my God, that's the car.
- 1:05:04And he goes chasing after it.
- 1:05:06And, uh, and she like pulls up along side and he is like, he is a lift.
- 1:05:10And he like jumps in the side of a moving van going 15, 20
- 1:05:13miles an hour, like full sprint.
- 1:05:15And I'm like, okay, well that's, that's a pretty cool little stunt.
- 1:05:17I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:05:18I, you know, and they go drive it off with the fan door wide open and she stops
- 1:05:23at a red light because it's a red light.
- 1:05:25And there's like four cops waiting right there.
- 1:05:28He's like, no, no, you gotta go get, you gotta chase that car.
- 1:05:30We gotta go get it.
- 1:05:31She's like, I'm not gonna fucking chase it.
- 1:05:33There's a cop right there.
- 1:05:35Cap.
- 1:05:35Cap.
- 1:05:36So, well the big thing, you were talking earlier about like the stump
- 1:05:40people in that scene where it shows the individual jumping in, you can see
- 1:05:44the door kicks, like catches him right in the middle of his spine as he Yeah.
- 1:05:47Yeah.
- 1:05:47And he body a check, he body checked the other side of the van too.
- 1:05:50I was like, Ooh, that hurt.
- 1:05:53Oh, oh, I hope, I hope that wasn't what happened to Mark Hamill and
- 1:05:57they just said it was a car accident.
- 1:06:00He dives face first.
- 1:06:01Oh, Jack.
- 1:06:02No, mark.
- 1:06:03So the four county Mounties or Dudley do rights that are standing on the corner.
- 1:06:07Right?
- 1:06:07I mean, like, these guys are clowns.
- 1:06:09I was like, yeah, I know.
- 1:06:10Like they're flirting with that, that they're talking to.
- 1:06:12I was say NHP loves, uh, outta state plates.
- 1:06:14They should be all over this shit.
- 1:06:16Okay.
- 1:06:16So I gotta ask, was there a significance to the license plate
- 1:06:20or is she just like, Rainman?
- 1:06:21I'm like, I don't understand.
- 1:06:22No.
- 1:06:22So, so it shows that she's paying attention to something he's interested in.
- 1:06:27Aw.
- 1:06:27But also, yeah, she represents, so she's smarter than we're like, let on to
- 1:06:30believe she's not just a ditzy dumb girl.
- 1:06:32She's a high school graduate.
- 1:06:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:34And then they run the plates and it's got fake plates.
- 1:06:37Oh, oh my, my God.
- 1:06:40You a mastermind organization.
- 1:06:41Is this so, so it's, we'll never find professional job now.
- 1:06:45And the police could give a rat's ass.
- 1:06:46Yeah.
- 1:06:47They're like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:48We got a whole team working on it.
- 1:06:50We're working in shifts.
- 1:06:51Having had my car stolen several times.
- 1:06:53Same car.
- 1:06:54This is how the police care.
- 1:06:55They're like, yeah, you're fucked.
- 1:06:57Good for you.
- 1:06:58So was this her second wardrobe change at this point where she changed her style
- 1:07:02again or does that happen after this?
- 1:07:03I think it's just after this when she's making those
- 1:07:06wonderful sunny D screwdrivers.
- 1:07:08Yeah.
- 1:07:09Yeah.
- 1:07:10And man, that took me back, I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:07:14We've all been there.
- 1:07:15What, what was her, what was her occupation at this point?
- 1:07:17In the movie?
- 1:07:18Uh, beautician, I think at this point.
- 1:07:21Yes.
- 1:07:21Yes.
- 1:07:21Yeah.
- 1:07:21She was a beautician.
- 1:07:21Okay.
- 1:07:22Okay.
- 1:07:22So she changed her hair again, right.
- 1:07:24So she had the frost.
- 1:07:24That's right.
- 1:07:25And she has the little beautician coat on.
- 1:07:27Correct.
- 1:07:28And then she's got, I couldn't tell Were they gray or were they
- 1:07:31green highlights in her hair.
- 1:07:32She said frosted tips, but yeah, they're like gray.
- 1:07:35Right.
- 1:07:35They were like the gray-ish purple that's trending now.
- 1:07:38Yeah.
- 1:07:38So it was like sort of hot foreshadowing.
- 1:07:41I'm like, oh, now I get to see what you look like.
- 1:07:43Old.
- 1:07:43This is kind of cool.
- 1:07:45Yeah.
- 1:07:45That's what she looks like in Young Sheldon nowadays.
- 1:07:47Yeah.
- 1:07:47Yeah, exactly.
- 1:07:48It actually, I thought it looked good.
- 1:07:49She looked really put together.
- 1:07:51I think that's the best.
- 1:07:51She looked in the movie outside of like her natural scenes,
- 1:07:54but in terms of outfit, I was like, girl, you got it going on.
- 1:07:57I'm like, I'm digging all this.
- 1:07:58The big curls and the, the frosted tips and everything.
- 1:08:01We're room for her to be a beautician.
- 1:08:02We'll take the shampoo and rinse.
- 1:08:04Thank you.
- 1:08:04And that lasted all of one scene.
- 1:08:09Yeah.
- 1:08:09So then, okay, so she's doing the sunny D screwdrivers and Mark
- 1:08:13Campbell just like, wait, wait, explain The sunny D Screwdrivers.
- 1:08:15Uh, vodka, sunny d. Taking one shot of each.
- 1:08:19And yes.
- 1:08:19Mix them in your mouth and swallowing.
- 1:08:21She's not, yeah, she, she's taking a hit off each bottle while laying in bed.
- 1:08:25What?
- 1:08:25Meanwhile what Mark Hamill's like, oh my God, I'm never gonna see that car kid.
- 1:08:29I might as well just kill myself.
- 1:08:32And she's like, what?
- 1:08:33Shout up about the car.
- 1:08:34Come have some screwdrivers with me.
- 1:08:36You sound like you could use a little lube and op.
- 1:08:39Yeah.
- 1:08:40I love how her, uh, her justification for doing that is she had to build up
- 1:08:44her tolerance for it so she didn't pass out on a John, it's impression time.
- 1:08:48It's impression time, folks, one of the ultimate quotes
- 1:08:53from this movie, you know what?
- 1:08:54A girl can't hold her liquor with her trick.
- 1:08:57Where does she end up asleep with her trick?
- 1:09:00I was like, what?
- 1:09:01What?
- 1:09:02Asleep on her trick.
- 1:09:03Hey, she's thinking it through.
- 1:09:05Yeah.
- 1:09:05Right.
- 1:09:06Oh, she, she knows the concept.
- 1:09:07You don't pay the hooker to stay, you pay the hooker to leave.
- 1:09:11Oh my goodness.
- 1:09:12Look, modern problems require modern solutions.
- 1:09:16Mount Mandals knows what I'm talking about.
- 1:09:18Look at him.
- 1:09:18He's, he's laughing
- 1:09:23and leaves.
- 1:09:23I love it.
- 1:09:27So anyway, um, then, okay, so yeah.
- 1:09:30Mark's having a, having a downtime, whatever.
- 1:09:33Mm-hmm.
- 1:09:34And then she, so she decides she should also have a downtime.
- 1:09:37Yeah.
- 1:09:37She starts disrobing out of focus behind him and I'm like, um, um, I
- 1:09:42know where my focus is, cameraman.
- 1:09:44You need to adjust accordingly.
- 1:09:46What is this the cameraman from?
- 1:09:47All I'll say there was some nice silhouette.
- 1:09:49That's all I'll say.
- 1:09:50That's true.
- 1:09:51Yeah, we get a little, little outta focus, nudity and then, uh, Mark
- 1:09:55Campbell says, oh, what the hell?
- 1:09:57And like Ravage kisses her, like assaulting Lee, like
- 1:10:00tackling her on the bed.
- 1:10:01And what the hell was that?
- 1:10:03Oh God.
- 1:10:03It was like Urkel in a watermelon or something.
- 1:10:06Like, I don't even know how to describe how awkward the hell scene was.
- 1:10:10It was just like, Ugh.
- 1:10:11Well take it to account.
- 1:10:13Prior to this, we're supposed to kiss right.
- 1:10:15Prior to this, I think the only woman he ever kissed was his mother.
- 1:10:17So that's the only experience he had.
- 1:10:19Oh God.
- 1:10:20Dave kissed me like your mother.
- 1:10:21Aw.
- 1:10:22Oh, stop it.
- 1:10:23If you ever want kissed again, stop saying that shit.
- 1:10:28Kiss me like Mark Campbell kisses his mother.
- 1:10:33Is that right?
- 1:10:34Mommy?
- 1:10:35Yeah, that's.
- 1:10:37All right, so then, yeah, she's like, yeah, let's screw, and he
- 1:10:39is like, yeah, sure, whatever.
- 1:10:42I'm like, wait, what?
- 1:10:44Oh, she shows him like the $2 bill that she gave him as his first
- 1:10:48or first customer, and it's like framed on the wall in the van.
- 1:10:51She's like, you haven't even noticed it.
- 1:10:53You haven't noticed my new de decor.
- 1:10:55So they kiss again and then go straight to pound town, boom.
- 1:10:59And then we cut to, I, I'm assuming 45 seconds later, and
- 1:11:04he's like, he's like, oh my God.
- 1:11:06Oh my God.
- 1:11:07I finished working on transmissions and I rebuilt a, a whole, I
- 1:11:11don't even know, carburetor, like age six, insert car term here.
- 1:11:15And I waited this long to get laid and then he pop out the top of the van.
- 1:11:20He is like, love Mr. Ple.
- 1:11:26I'm just amazed by the fact that it had a sunroof all the way at the
- 1:11:29back above where the water bed right.
- 1:11:31Vanessa is awesome.
- 1:11:33That's all I'm gonna say.
- 1:11:34These are features, these are not drawbacks.
- 1:11:36You're not, you're not gonna, she's the real star of the movie.
- 1:11:39Van Ness is the hottest one in the movie, and that's saying something
- 1:11:41because any pots is in her prime and Mark Campbell's mom anyway.
- 1:11:46Oh, oh.
- 1:11:47Speaking of which, this is when the teacher goes to see the mom and be like.
- 1:11:50Yeah.
- 1:11:50Meanwhile back in Los Angeles.
- 1:11:52Yeah.
- 1:11:53Meanwhile at the trailer park, Hey, uh, have you seen your son or heard
- 1:11:57from him in the past couple months?
- 1:11:58Like, oh no, he'll find his way back.
- 1:12:00But I'm gonna, I'm packing up because I'm moving to Delmar and even the
- 1:12:03teacher's like, you're moving to Delmar and you don't know where your son is.
- 1:12:07I know he's in Vegas.
- 1:12:09Look, he'll think you ripped out.
- 1:12:10He's got a great life going.
- 1:12:12I met this boyfriend, Delmas gonna be great.
- 1:12:15We're gonna be like an hour outside the city.
- 1:12:17Right on the coast.
- 1:12:19They're not allowed to build anything over.
- 1:12:20Two stories tall, man.
- 1:12:22It's, we'll never lose of you.
- 1:12:23Awesome.
- 1:12:25Okay, then we get some more Mark Kenny or whatever, writing
- 1:12:28letters back home or whatever.
- 1:12:29Dear shop teacher.
- 1:12:30Yeah.
- 1:12:30Dear shop teacher.
- 1:12:31I never thought it would happen to me.
- 1:12:33Yeah, right.
- 1:12:34But here's a line that had me a little confused.
- 1:12:36Don't worry.
- 1:12:37I still like cars.
- 1:12:39I'm like, I'm going steady with this girl and she's great.
- 1:12:42Don't worry.
- 1:12:42I still like cars and I'm like, uh, that's how into cars he is.
- 1:12:47Babe.
- 1:12:48I mean, I, I, I empathize.
- 1:12:50I get it.
- 1:12:50I totally understand.
- 1:12:52I think all, all the car people are now church nodding.
- 1:12:54We're like, yep, yep.
- 1:12:55Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:55They're like, yeah.
- 1:12:56Yep.
- 1:12:56Even, even after knowing the loving touch of a woman, I still enjoy cars.
- 1:13:00Not as much, don't get me wrong.
- 1:13:02But Steve, let me put this in Steve terms for you.
- 1:13:04Did you still like basketball after the first time you got laid?
- 1:13:07Oh, yeah.
- 1:13:07But did you like being laid or did you like basketball?
- 1:13:11Yes.
- 1:13:12Yeah.
- 1:13:15I mean, if it's any consolation, my wife says all the time, you don't have to worry
- 1:13:18'cause his mistress lives in the garage.
- 1:13:20So I'm like, Hey, there you go.
- 1:13:21Right.
- 1:13:24Well, the Corvette gets repainted during this whole drama.
- 1:13:28Oh, that's right.
- 1:13:28Oh no.
- 1:13:29Oh, the Corvette has an outfit change.
- 1:13:31Is this when he starts working at the car wash?
- 1:13:34Yeah.
- 1:13:34Uh, I think he still, or the gas station where he tries to screw over that woman.
- 1:13:38Oh, that was weird too.
- 1:13:39Well, that was before he hopped in the van when he was working
- 1:13:42at the gas station where he was sleeping in the U-Haul behind it.
- 1:13:46He was, uh, painting the.
- 1:13:48Dead batteries with fresh paint.
- 1:13:51Oh yeah.
- 1:13:51Yes, yes, that's right.
- 1:13:51He, uh, the, the guy who owns the U-Haul rental slash gas station place hires
- 1:13:56him 'cause he likes the cut of his jib.
- 1:13:58Oh, that's right.
- 1:13:58'cause So Annie pots kicks him out of the van the next morning, right?
- 1:14:01Oh no, that's he, that was the first time.
- 1:14:05Yeah.
- 1:14:05Is this when he's wearing like the suit and is clicks up the Oh, not yet.
- 1:14:09Feather Stingray.
- 1:14:10Yeah.
- 1:14:10Yeah.
- 1:14:10He's like a valet or whatever, and the guy's like, Hey, that's my car.
- 1:14:13Get out.
- 1:14:13Like, oh yeah, here you go, sir. You know, that's the, be the other beautiful blonde.
- 1:14:17Yeah.
- 1:14:17And, and then, uh.
- 1:14:18That's right.
- 1:14:19He goes back to the van and there's like the note that's like
- 1:14:21working late, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:14:22And he is like, what?
- 1:14:23I bet you're working late cruise.
- 1:14:25He cruise Boulevard.
- 1:14:26And he goes to the escort service and they're like, yeah, I never heard of her.
- 1:14:30And then he is, goes to get some, you know, I dunno, burgers
- 1:14:33to fill that void in his soul.
- 1:14:35Mm-hmm.
- 1:14:35And like can he, is that you?
- 1:14:37What is that my van?
- 1:14:39I told you I was working late.
- 1:14:41I told you I was gonna be right back.
- 1:14:43How am I supposed to find the goddamn fan if you're driving it all up town is the
- 1:14:47conversation that should have happened.
- 1:14:49But instead she's like, no, see, every car in town comes through this place.
- 1:14:53So I'm helping you look for the car.
- 1:14:55See, everybody wants a smiley burger.
- 1:14:58I think it was great when he was.
- 1:14:59Trying to find her before he found her at the burger place.
- 1:15:02And he goes into the cat house and he walks up and like Yanks the one
- 1:15:04woman around thinking it was her.
- 1:15:05Oh yeah.
- 1:15:06He's like, oh wait, it's not you.
- 1:15:07You've got some nerve.
- 1:15:09And I'm like, that's the wrong wig homie.
- 1:15:10Yeah.
- 1:15:12And then I think after, that's when, yeah, he is like working
- 1:15:14at the car wash or whatever.
- 1:15:17It's a car wash.
- 1:15:18Yeah.
- 1:15:18When Wet comes through.
- 1:15:19But a gold version of his car.
- 1:15:22Wait a minute, what?
- 1:15:26And then we find out it's driven by Brian James, legendary.
- 1:15:30I don't know that guy from action movies in the eighties.
- 1:15:33Uh, you might know him best as, uh, the guy with the funny
- 1:15:35accent in, uh, tango and Cash.
- 1:15:37Yeah.
- 1:15:38That ends up, uh.
- 1:15:38With a grenade in his pants.
- 1:15:40Spoiler alert.
- 1:15:41See, you went that way with that scene and when that car came out, I went, oh man.
- 1:15:46When, just when you thought that car couldn't get uglier.
- 1:15:49That's what I Is an ugly gold.
- 1:15:51Yeah.
- 1:15:52Seventies gold.
- 1:15:53It was not, it was terrible looking car to begin with in the red.
- 1:15:56But when they did it gold, it was like, I didn't think you could make it any uglier.
- 1:16:00I mean, it, it was, yeah, it was almost mustard.
- 1:16:03Look, only the Rockford car looks good in seventies gold.
- 1:16:05That's true.
- 1:16:06I give you that.
- 1:16:07I give you that.
- 1:16:07Speaking of Rockford, we got another chase where, uh, Brian James is
- 1:16:10driving off in the Stingray and Mark Hamill's chasing him on a bike.
- 1:16:14And I'm like, good luck sucker.
- 1:16:15Oh, he gets hit by a bicycle.
- 1:16:17And steals the bicyclist.
- 1:16:19He jumps out, he jumps on the bicyclist to jack him.
- 1:16:24Cy Jack sounds like an old school.
- 1:16:2510 speed Huffy.
- 1:16:26It was a Schwinn, but I gotta ask this.
- 1:16:28See, this is my attention to detail.
- 1:16:30Why did we hyperfocus on that water bottle attached to the
- 1:16:34bike handles for like 30 seconds?
- 1:16:36I'm like, what are we looking at?
- 1:16:37It was like a slow pan up as, and then it like shows his sweaty ass face and I'm
- 1:16:42like, there's a water bottle right there.
- 1:16:44I was expect to like take a swig like, oh, it's vodka or
- 1:16:46you know, something like that.
- 1:16:47Yeah.
- 1:16:48Oh, Steve like straight up was like, uh, yeah.
- 1:16:51We know he's got a water bottle, otherwise he'd die in Vegas
- 1:16:56again.
- 1:16:56I assumed we were going for the badass videos from Sunny in Philadelphia,
- 1:17:00but we ended up with basically the Goonies scene where he is hanging
- 1:17:04onto the cars going down the highway.
- 1:17:05I'm like, what the hell?
- 1:17:06Morning I were like the back to future music to start playing.
- 1:17:10Gotta go back in time.
- 1:17:14The thing about this scene that baffled me is how when he catches
- 1:17:17up to the car, reaches and grabs the guy's shoulder and he goes to like
- 1:17:20close the his hand in the window.
- 1:17:22So he reaches down to open it and the door swings open.
- 1:17:24How the door did not make contact with the parked vehicle as they went by.
- 1:17:27It just baffles me.
- 1:17:28Yeah, right.
- 1:17:29That baffled you, dude.
- 1:17:31He was doing 60 miles an hour.
- 1:17:33When he let go of that bus and caught the Corvette.
- 1:17:36I mean, how the hell did he slow down enough to grab the
- 1:17:39car without killing himself?
- 1:17:40It was nuts, guys.
- 1:17:42That's the magic of filmmaking.
- 1:17:43That's, you know what, again, this is some like really good stunt work that's gonna
- 1:17:47go completely unappreciated by the masses.
- 1:17:49Yes.
- 1:17:50Yeah.
- 1:17:50So, so the cray peels off, 'cause obviously that guy ain't stopping
- 1:17:54shit, but he pulls into the, uh, garage or whatever and he is like,
- 1:17:57Hey, this looking, this slimy, this oily teenage kid tried to jack me.
- 1:18:02He was on a bike, he rest in yellow and it's some weird shit.
- 1:18:06And then comes the guy, you know, on, on the back of like a, like
- 1:18:10a, like a, uh, it's a car carrier.
- 1:18:12Car hauler, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:13Car carrier.
- 1:18:14And he just comes in full speed.
- 1:18:16Yeah.
- 1:18:17Goes right past them and like crashes into a bunch of tires.
- 1:18:21That was beautiful.
- 1:18:22I was, and my wife goes, what?
- 1:18:23The bike doesn't have brakes.
- 1:18:25Yeah, he burned him off stop before the parked car.
- 1:18:27Yeah, he most realistic part of the movie.
- 1:18:32It was beautiful.
- 1:18:33So yeah, so they rough him up and, uh, lock him in a closet or something.
- 1:18:37Uh, a little storage closet, I guess like that night or whatever.
- 1:18:40There's like one guy watching, he is like trying to open the padlock door.
- 1:18:44He is like, yeah, so way you getting outta there.
- 1:18:47Oh shit.
- 1:18:48And he like goes to check it and the windows cracks.
- 1:18:50Like, oh shit.
- 1:18:50He went out the window.
- 1:18:51Goes out chasing him and then out comes Kenny out of a full
- 1:18:56oil drum just covered in oil.
- 1:18:59And I'm like, well, he's dead, right?
- 1:19:01Nope.
- 1:19:02Do you remember that black tar monster in Star Trek?
- 1:19:05The Next Generation?
- 1:19:06Yeah.
- 1:19:06That's where my mind went when he emerged to Kill Tasha.
- 1:19:10Ya.
- 1:19:10Exactly.
- 1:19:10Yeah, exactly.
- 1:19:12Like, and then even when it's like dripped off a bit, it's like, oh,
- 1:19:15now he's Tar Man from, uh, return of the Living Dead or whatever.
- 1:19:18But the scene after, that's even better.
- 1:19:20Like, oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:20So yeah, so he, he like pulls outta the drummer or whatever, and the, the
- 1:19:24guy who was like, goes out the other side of the window and he realizes, oh
- 1:19:27shit, there's no way he got out there.
- 1:19:28That's like a three story drop.
- 1:19:30And so then he sees the, uh, oily, like footprints leading down the street
- 1:19:34or whatever, and so he like grabs the nearest chain and goes following the
- 1:19:38footsteps because either he's walking to a trapper, this is the stupidest thing in
- 1:19:42the history of crime, and it can be both.
- 1:19:45And uh, yeah, basically like chases him down, beats his ass
- 1:19:48a couple of times on the side.
- 1:19:49This.
- 1:19:50Street.
- 1:19:50And while kitty's, like in the fetal position, stop, luckily,
- 1:19:55who would pull up to save the day?
- 1:19:56Dick Miller?
- 1:19:57No, the other guy, the low rider guy that he saw that was going 15
- 1:20:02miles an hour earlier in the movie.
- 1:20:04Oh, it's, they just made it to Vegas.
- 1:20:06They just made it like three weeks later.
- 1:20:08Woo.
- 1:20:09He's already had four jobs in in the time it took him to get there.
- 1:20:12I, I'm just amazed the fact that he could recognize him covered in the oil.
- 1:20:16Oh, there's some kid that I you ran into a week ago, but he's all covered normal.
- 1:20:19Yeah, I know him.
- 1:20:20Honestly, I think if they just pulled up like, oh, that guy's
- 1:20:23beating the shit outta that guy.
- 1:20:24And then the one guy runs off and then he like turns over like,
- 1:20:26oh, hey, I know this cracker.
- 1:20:28You know?
- 1:20:30And subsequently the scene after that I thought was glorious.
- 1:20:34Right.
- 1:20:34He's still in the fetal position.
- 1:20:36Oh yeah.
- 1:20:37Oh, the scene is amazing.
- 1:20:38And Annie Potts is sitting there with a pressure washer just, just,
- 1:20:44I didn't even know what to think.
- 1:20:45I was just like, this is awesome.
- 1:20:47This is so great.
- 1:20:49Yeah.
- 1:20:49She's like spraying 'em down like, I can't believe you did that.
- 1:20:52Why would you be so stupid?
- 1:20:53Blah blah.
- 1:20:54Oh, sorry.
- 1:20:54Hold on.
- 1:20:55Switch to wax.
- 1:20:57Okay, now we're back to what am spraying you down.
- 1:21:01And I'll say this, she's actually spraying, she actually went
- 1:21:03across his face and stuff.
- 1:21:04And I can firsthand say a pressure washer does not feel good to bear skin.
- 1:21:09Wait, wait a minute.
- 1:21:10You can, firsthand, you have firsthand accounts and be pressure washing.
- 1:21:13Yeah, he was the one spraying the person in the face.
- 1:21:17Wait, is that second?
- 1:21:18I don't know.
- 1:21:20That's what Daniel has to do when they run outta water on the mountain.
- 1:21:25Gotta make fun with what you got.
- 1:21:27Yeah.
- 1:21:27Oh, after he gets all cleaned up?
- 1:21:30Yep.
- 1:21:30He's gotta go to the police department and be like, Hey, I know where my car was,
- 1:21:34at least, you know, several hours ago.
- 1:21:36And Oh yeah, by the way, kidnapping and all that stuff.
- 1:21:38Yeah.
- 1:21:39Don't worry about that.
- 1:21:39Assault and stuff.
- 1:21:40I did too.
- 1:21:41Don't, uh, they were doing the assaulting, um, but then, uh,
- 1:21:45he runs into his teacher who's apparently in town now, and I'm like.
- 1:21:49Oh boy, I know where this is going.
- 1:21:51Teacher, uh, takes him for a drive and, uh, he's like, oh, yeah,
- 1:21:54I, I can take you to the shop.
- 1:21:56He is like, oh, yeah, I know the shop.
- 1:21:57I know the guy who runs it too.
- 1:21:59He was an old student of mine.
- 1:22:00And I'm like, oh, here we go.
- 1:22:02And this is where Izzy pointed out something incredible about this movie.
- 1:22:06Mm-hmm.
- 1:22:06Solo a Star Wars film or whatever.
- 1:22:10It's basically the same plot of this movie.
- 1:22:12It's a future version of this movie, you know?
- 1:22:15Right.
- 1:22:17Wow.
- 1:22:17My brain is officially melted.
- 1:22:19Like you replaced Annie Potts with, you know, ksi whatever.
- 1:22:22She was playing in that thing like, oh yeah.
- 1:22:24She did become a hooker.
- 1:22:25She just became the comfort girl of the local drug, Lord, wait a minute.
- 1:22:30And the bad guy that we discovered, the guy running this chop shop auto
- 1:22:34body, you know, whatever we wanna call it, kind of looks like Darth Mall.
- 1:22:38Anyway, he's got a scary Yeah, scary look to him, you know?
- 1:22:41Yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:41Just, you know, pre legs chasing after a vehicle that's not his.
- 1:22:46So what I thought was interesting about that scene with Mr. McGrath played by,
- 1:22:50you know, Mr. Roche, as we talked about earlier, he's driving around Vegas and
- 1:22:54I, I've been to Vegas a bunch of, I was just there recently as a matter of fact,
- 1:22:57and I pinpointed the Mandalay Bay in the background when they finally park and
- 1:23:00they get out of the square body Chevy that they were driving around, and I'm
- 1:23:03sure Dan was super excited about it.
- 1:23:04They can tell us all about, you know, the specific model
- 1:23:07and customizations and whatnot.
- 1:23:08But I spotted the Mandalay Bay and I was like, wow, this
- 1:23:12is all super developed today.
- 1:23:13I mean, you know, the Luxor wasn't there and some of the
- 1:23:16other casinos that are there now.
- 1:23:17And then it suddenly dawned on me and I, I turned to my wife and I
- 1:23:20said, when's Ken Jong gonna pop out?
- 1:23:22She goes, whatcha talking about?
- 1:23:23I was like, big abandoned lot in Las Vegas.
- 1:23:25There's gotta be a naked Asian man running by any minute now.
- 1:23:31Spoiler.
- 1:23:32This movie's very honky heavy,
- 1:23:37but yeah, so they're basically where the airport is now, like, but it's, you know,
- 1:23:4110 miles from the strip or whatever.
- 1:23:43The teachers basically break it down like, yeah, I sold this car to
- 1:23:46this old student of mine, you know?
- 1:23:49Oh yeah.
- 1:23:49Well wait, what's I, I only make.
- 1:23:5015 grand a year or something as a teacher.
- 1:23:52What's the name of the auto shop?
- 1:23:53Oh, uh, Silverado Auto Shop.
- 1:23:55And I'm like, and what was he driving?
- 1:23:56He was driving a Chevy Silverado.
- 1:23:58I'm like, dude, you know you in a Silverado.
- 1:24:00It's called like he probably owns that chop shop.
- 1:24:03Run.
- 1:24:04You go die Luke use the force.
- 1:24:06But yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:07This is where he is like, I only make 15 grand a year.
- 1:24:09I can't get by on that.
- 1:24:10And this guy can't up with a proposition like, oh, I've
- 1:24:12made 15 grand a year before.
- 1:24:14Oh, but wait, I'm gonna turn to our executive co-producer for our
- 1:24:18fact checking on 1970s inflation, which you care to share some
- 1:24:22super fun facts with the crowd.
- 1:24:23Time.
- 1:24:243 million nowadays.
- 1:24:25Interesting tidbits.
- 1:24:26I supposed to do research.
- 1:24:28It's in my notes.
- 1:24:28I figured you'd read it.
- 1:24:29Oh, no, I, sorry.
- 1:24:31Eric did the research for you, much like the movie.
- 1:24:34I'm not paying attention to these details.
- 1:24:38You have the notes printed out right there.
- 1:24:39Yeah, I, I got the notes.
- 1:24:40Uh, basically 15 grand back then comes to 62,400 in 2020, which is not very slouchy.
- 1:24:48That's a lot more than a teacher actually makes these days.
- 1:24:51Oh, right.
- 1:24:52Yeah.
- 1:24:52Teachers still make like $15,000 a year message.
- 1:24:57Then Luke ends up, well, Luke, Kenny, or Kent, right.
- 1:25:00Kenneth, whatever his name was.
- 1:25:02He ends up getting a job right by way of his shop teacher
- 1:25:05at the Silverado Body Shop.
- 1:25:06Right.
- 1:25:06And they offer him a whopping like 700 a week and it, he like, no,
- 1:25:11you gotta pay me eight 50 a week.
- 1:25:13Which basically nowadays is 180 plus thousand dollars a year.
- 1:25:18I'd like to make eight 50 a week now.
- 1:25:20Yeah.
- 1:25:22Pretty sweet, bonkers, right?
- 1:25:24This leads into my favorite part of the movie because he goes from
- 1:25:26Kenny Dantley to full on Tony Ana.
- 1:25:30Yeah.
- 1:25:30He shows up with the big sunglasses, taking his prostitute, you know,
- 1:25:34girlfriend out to go, you know, get all the fancy things that she
- 1:25:38could never afford before, and he's just sitting there chilling.
- 1:25:41This led to.
- 1:25:42A completely new movie that lasted approximately 15 to 20 minutes
- 1:25:47before we came back to the movie.
- 1:25:49We ended watching for an hour and a half,
- 1:25:52watch his right real quick to go back.
- 1:25:56One thing that we missed is how he was walking, trying to find, and he
- 1:25:59walks up on that second gen Camaro outside of the chop shop and the guy's
- 1:26:03standing on the other side of it and he is, Hey, I am looking for this car.
- 1:26:05And the whole time the Corvette is sitting right inside the
- 1:26:07open door, just out sight.
- 1:26:09Right?
- 1:26:09That was way away.
- 1:26:11Pan.
- 1:26:11You can see the car sitting there and I'm like, you don't look back at all.
- 1:26:14I mean, what the hell?
- 1:26:15I mean if we're talking about things that we missed, we
- 1:26:17missed yet another, any pots.
- 1:26:19Wardrobe change somewhere in this whole mess with the teacher and the guy and
- 1:26:23discovering the Silverado Body Shop.
- 1:26:25Does anybody remember the little black dress?
- 1:26:27Oh, oh yes.
- 1:26:28Her Bond Girl outfit.
- 1:26:30That wasn't until later though.
- 1:26:31That wasn't until he became full on Jerk.
- 1:26:33That was after, well, perfect Casino.
- 1:26:36Well, then we lead up to it, and since we're talking about it,
- 1:26:39I've already brought it up now.
- 1:26:40I immediately went to BB New Earth.
- 1:26:43I was like, she looks like Lith.
- 1:26:44It looked like it was Breakfast at Tiffany's all of a sudden, right?
- 1:26:48Awesome.
- 1:26:49They both looked amazing, actually.
- 1:26:50He looked really good.
- 1:26:52In that outfit.
- 1:26:53Like those square glasses really worked for him.
- 1:26:55Like he was playing it up that room.
- 1:26:57However, they ended up in little honeymoon suite.
- 1:27:00Oh, rotating bed.
- 1:27:01Put in a quarter.
- 1:27:02Yeah.
- 1:27:02A little clamshell.
- 1:27:03Headboard and, and stuff.
- 1:27:04Look, they still haven't left the circus.
- 1:27:06Circus, okay.
- 1:27:07Yeah.
- 1:27:07He's still mad about the Dodge.
- 1:27:08They just got an upgrade.
- 1:27:10Yeah.
- 1:27:10Right.
- 1:27:11So guys, here, here's where the scene goes.
- 1:27:13Completely fucking nuts.
- 1:27:16He is like, oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:17I took you shopping all day.
- 1:27:18Got this nice fancy suite.
- 1:27:20I got this job.
- 1:27:20We're gonna be set forever.
- 1:27:22What about your car?
- 1:27:24Uh, yeah.
- 1:27:24You know, I'm, I'm, I'm okay without my morals.
- 1:27:27Uh, here I'll even offer you $20.
- 1:27:30And I'm like, wait, no.
- 1:27:34Here, take another 50.
- 1:27:35I'm like, oh, bury yourself.
- 1:27:37No, dude.
- 1:27:38This one son, they have cool.
- 1:27:40Oh, oh, Tony Ana.
- 1:27:41Yeah.
- 1:27:42They're both being weird in the same 'cause, like he's
- 1:27:44being a straight up jerk.
- 1:27:45But this is a movie trope that like doesn't exist in real life and it's
- 1:27:48like, oh man, I'm so mad at you about being crazy about chasing this one car.
- 1:27:52Move on.
- 1:27:53Oh my God, you've moved on.
- 1:27:55'cause you've got a job where you seem very happy and make more money than all in
- 1:27:58a week than all I ever see in my lifetime.
- 1:28:01You've changed.
- 1:28:02You realize how many dicks I'll have to suck to get eight 50 a week.
- 1:28:07I'll never have to suck.
- 1:28:08Do a time.
- 1:28:10That's a different kind of screwdriver.
- 1:28:12Yeah, right.
- 1:28:14Which one of you a Sonny do, can I just say, Annie Pots was amazing.
- 1:28:19Was.
- 1:28:19She was amazing in this movie, but I did not, I don't feel that they
- 1:28:23like her and Mark Hamill had any chemistry was Unbeliev whatsoever.
- 1:28:26Was unbelievable.
- 1:28:27Yeah.
- 1:28:27It was cringe-worthy, uncomfortable to watch them try and act together.
- 1:28:32Like if Annie Pots wasn't Annie Pots, it would've been much
- 1:28:35worse than it actually was.
- 1:28:37So you guys, you guys wanted her to run off with the porn director?
- 1:28:43Dude, how weird was that?
- 1:28:47You a porn movie.
- 1:28:48It was a short, yeah.
- 1:28:50Right.
- 1:28:50You all said that the, the bond outfit.
- 1:28:52I thought you were talking about the scuba gear.
- 1:28:55I thought that was the bond outfit.
- 1:28:57He thought it was Octopussy.
- 1:28:58That's what he thought it was.
- 1:29:00Exactly.
- 1:29:00Yeah.
- 1:29:00Yeah.
- 1:29:00So, so the next day, uh, Kenny's at work and Vanessa gets pulled up and
- 1:29:05he's like, Hey, hey, you stole this fan.
- 1:29:07What the really Your car thief?
- 1:29:08What the fuck are you talking about?
- 1:29:09Look, it's, I got a good deal on it this morning.
- 1:29:12She sold Vanessa, she sold the place where we live, right?
- 1:29:17I can't live at the Honeymoon Suite.
- 1:29:20Circus Circus.
- 1:29:21I mean, that's like $12 a night.
- 1:29:23That was a one.
- 1:29:24Thing.
- 1:29:24Does she not know that we have to pass like a background check and get a rental?
- 1:29:28We should.
- 1:29:28My first and last month's payment done before we can get a place.
- 1:29:31She can't sell security deposits.
- 1:29:34Oh no.
- 1:29:34He did get that 850 bucks in advance so they can like buy a house now.
- 1:29:38Oh, it's true.
- 1:29:39That's true.
- 1:29:40And did anybody else think that the boss or the the other
- 1:29:43student, what was his name?
- 1:29:45Matt Lowry or.
- 1:29:46Whatever, Matt Lauer, whatever.
- 1:29:48To me, he looked like a cheaper version of Willem Defoe.
- 1:29:51Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:29:52I saw that too.
- 1:29:53Also, guys, I thought they were gonna kill Kenny Desert.
- 1:29:57They're like, yeah, yeah, sure.
- 1:29:59Yeah, yeah.
- 1:29:59And then just one day at work, someone's gonna like choke him with
- 1:30:01a chain from behind or something.
- 1:30:02Something.
- 1:30:02They drop a car on him.
- 1:30:04Corvet work accident.
- 1:30:05When they crush the Corvette, they drop it on.
- 1:30:07So did anybody look up Kim Milford's, IMDB profile?
- 1:30:11His headshot?
- 1:30:12So the character in the, in the show is Wayne Lowry.
- 1:30:14He's the the guy that Brad was talking about.
- 1:30:16But did anybody look at his headshot?
- 1:30:18No.
- 1:30:18It's very interesting.
- 1:30:19I mean, he's creepy looking.
- 1:30:21Pulling it up.
- 1:30:22Pulling it up.
- 1:30:22Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:24Yes, yes.
- 1:30:25I remember.
- 1:30:25No, I had seen that.
- 1:30:26Yeah.
- 1:30:27I was like, what the f it?
- 1:30:30Actually, he almost looks better that way than he did in the movie.
- 1:30:33Oof.
- 1:30:33But what movie was that?
- 1:30:34Oh kid.
- 1:30:35Oh, oh, he is like in a zombie makeup or something with a blonde bowl haircut.
- 1:30:40Yeah.
- 1:30:40Whatever role that was.
- 1:30:41He must take pride in if he's using that.
- 1:30:43Oh man.
- 1:30:43He passed away at the age of 37 and yeah, IM gonna guess it's from this laser
- 1:30:46blast movie based on the image for this.
- 1:30:49Oh yeah.
- 1:30:50See these are more movies you get to add to your fun list of things to review.
- 1:30:54I'm looking up Laser blast now.
- 1:30:56Thank you for this rabbit hole 2.7 on the imba.
- 1:30:59Sold.
- 1:31:00Wait, who's the director?
- 1:31:01Is it uh, one of those David De Catto?
- 1:31:03Movies or something.
- 1:31:04Oh, sorry guys.
- 1:31:05There's like some dinosaur looking aliens.
- 1:31:07Michael Ray.
- 1:31:07Oh, come in next week.
- 1:31:09No, if you like this, you might like Z Future Wall Future.
- 1:31:12Oh boy.
- 1:31:13So if you guys like these off the wall movies, it's kind of how, I don't know how
- 1:31:17I stumbled across this one and sent it to Eric initially, but in my random running
- 1:31:21through the internet, I find weird shit.
- 1:31:23Mm-hmm.
- 1:31:23So it was by chance Mplementation movies.
- 1:31:26It was weird.
- 1:31:26'cause like this one, it was like someone had a DVD of it for sale.
- 1:31:28So I looked it up and I sent the link there.
- 1:31:30I was like, Hey, are you aware of this movie?
- 1:31:33No.
- 1:31:33But thank you for bringing this into my life.
- 1:31:35I'm surprised it was a DVD and not a VHS or beta.
- 1:31:38Yeah, laser beta.
- 1:31:41Laser disc laser dis or die.
- 1:31:44So this is Kenny.
- 1:31:45Where are we back in the movie?
- 1:31:46Where are Yeah.
- 1:31:47Kenny Corte Summer.
- 1:31:48Yeah.
- 1:31:49Yeah.
- 1:31:49The van got sold.
- 1:31:50So Kenny's like, I gotta go talk to Eleanor, whatever her name is, any pots.
- 1:31:54And so he like, runs to a casino and sees that, uh, she's, she's working and
- 1:31:58she's in like her James Bond girl outfit.
- 1:32:01Just like, yeah, Rosalyn Black Dress.
- 1:32:03Hair slick, looking good.
- 1:32:05He like walks up to her like, oh, this is where you've been.
- 1:32:07She's like, excuse me, do I know you?
- 1:32:09Like the voice even changed a bit.
- 1:32:11I'm like, oh, oh, oh, here we go.
- 1:32:14Right?
- 1:32:14I'm interested.
- 1:32:15Basically they take a walk and she's like, I don't even remember
- 1:32:17the reason why they broke up.
- 1:32:19Just like, oh, you're not obsessed with this car anymore.
- 1:32:21You're not the same person and you've changed, and if you're allowed to get a
- 1:32:26career, then I'm allowed to get a career.
- 1:32:28It's a free country.
- 1:32:29Then the guy that I guess is, I don't know, renting her or whatever, but
- 1:32:32he is like, oh hey, who's this guy?
- 1:32:34Like, oh, this is, this is my, my cousin Homer.
- 1:32:36Bye homeA.
- 1:32:37Well, hey cousin Homer, you wanna come to the party later?
- 1:32:40It's gonna get really wild with your cousin here.
- 1:32:43I'm like, oh, oh.
- 1:32:44He's like, I'll make it worth your while.
- 1:32:46Yeah, yeah.
- 1:32:47It was very like, oh boy, this is gonna get weird.
- 1:32:50Oh, in decent proposal.
- 1:32:51Right.
- 1:32:51And so like you mentioned, like Annie Pott's name had changed again.
- 1:32:54'cause there she went by a couple different names throughout the movie.
- 1:32:58Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:32:58Other than that, at this point she went from, 'cause originally it went
- 1:33:01from prostitute to Hooker to now.
- 1:33:03'cause at one point, shortly before this, she was talking to Mark's
- 1:33:05character and was like, I'm not gonna make it as a hooker here.
- 1:33:08I have to be an escort.
- 1:33:09So now she's made her way up to the tier of considering herself an
- 1:33:12escort before she winds out with this older gentleman at the casino.
- 1:33:16Yeah.
- 1:33:16Yes.
- 1:33:16So many career paths.
- 1:33:18No.
- 1:33:18And she, she said that there aren't any hookers in, in Vegas.
- 1:33:21There aren't any hook.
- 1:33:22They're escorts, Arens in Vegas.
- 1:33:23They're all escorts.
- 1:33:24That's why I was going wrong.
- 1:33:26I'm gonna change my name.
- 1:33:27I think I make the name Rosalyn.
- 1:33:29And didn't she say something about denim was the wrong way to go too?
- 1:33:32Yeah, she did.
- 1:33:33You have pick up a girl in denim?
- 1:33:35Yeah.
- 1:33:35It's always gonna be a problem.
- 1:33:37I need to get myself a little black number and one of those little ribbon chokers.
- 1:33:40That's the reason they call it a wife beta.
- 1:33:42Yeah.
- 1:33:42And she goes and gets her little velvet number and gets her choker.
- 1:33:45She is a woman who gets things done.
- 1:33:48That's right.
- 1:33:48I agree.
- 1:33:48She's too good for Mark Hamill there.
- 1:33:50I said it right.
- 1:33:51So yeah.
- 1:33:51Then Mark Hamill goes to work and uh, he's working angry, just beating the
- 1:33:55shit out of a fender or something.
- 1:33:56Yeah.
- 1:33:57And, and then he is like welding two limos together.
- 1:34:02I don't know.
- 1:34:02Yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:03He was fixing the roadkill style was like, it was a mess.
- 1:34:05I don't know what the hell he was doing.
- 1:34:06And, and I know Dan was critique all the welds at that point.
- 1:34:10I literally thought that to myself even I was like, I dunno
- 1:34:13what the hell he is doing.
- 1:34:13But he ain't welding.
- 1:34:14No.
- 1:34:15All I can say is he's, he's not very strong.
- 1:34:17'cause him beating on that fender and it wasn't hardly Denny it with
- 1:34:20the size of the hammer he was using.
- 1:34:21Yeah.
- 1:34:22That's just utterly weak.
- 1:34:23Look, he's four and a half feet tall.
- 1:34:25Give him some credit.
- 1:34:26It was.
- 1:34:26Seventies domestic steel.
- 1:34:29That's true.
- 1:34:29Yeah.
- 1:34:30It's like baseball.
- 1:34:30He weighs 97 pounds.
- 1:34:32Come on.
- 1:34:32He wasn't using the force.
- 1:34:35So yeah, that night, like the owner of the place is like, Hey, come
- 1:34:38on, it's beer o'clock, let's go.
- 1:34:39And he is just working away like, all right, well just lock up when you're done.
- 1:34:43And like as soon as they leave he looks at his, uh, the stingray, which
- 1:34:46is still gold and he has an idea and then he paints it and it's red again
- 1:34:51and holy shit, it's gonna be great.
- 1:34:52And I, I was thinking like, alright, cool.
- 1:34:53He opens the front of the garage, drives off.
- 1:34:55Roll credits, guys.
- 1:34:57What do we, Nope.
- 1:34:57Instead he waits till the next morning for, uh, Brian James and the other
- 1:35:01big henchman mechanic dude to open up.
- 1:35:04And then he tries to fight 'em and they're like, oh, what are you doing?
- 1:35:07He hits one of 'em a plastic fender.
- 1:35:10Yeah.
- 1:35:10And then like it was a bumper cover, I think.
- 1:35:12Yeah.
- 1:35:12And then he, he throws the tiniest wrenches.
- 1:35:15I'm like, come on, it's a mechanic shop.
- 1:35:17There's some big ass sledge hammers and wrenches.
- 1:35:19Pick up something.
- 1:35:19Nope.
- 1:35:20Here's my 10 millimeter.
- 1:35:21If you can dodge wrench, you can dodge a ball ball.
- 1:35:26But then he grabs that paint gun.
- 1:35:27Yeah.
- 1:35:28Blast the guy in the face.
- 1:35:30And I'm like, fuck, he's dead.
- 1:35:31Dude cracked up that, that 1970s candy.
- 1:35:35Apple red.
- 1:35:36He could, he died.
- 1:35:37Could see the Xes in his eyes popped up.
- 1:35:39Blacker paint like in the eyes Metal.
- 1:35:41Flake that wound up in his freaking, like in his nostrils, in the lung,
- 1:35:45in his eyeballs, his tear duct metal, metal flake is just pink glitter.
- 1:35:50Oh no.
- 1:35:51He's gonna, he never getting it out.
- 1:35:52He's gonna glitter all over himself now.
- 1:35:54He's gonna sparkle like a vampire.
- 1:35:57It was an improvement for his face.
- 1:35:59Good point.
- 1:35:59But yeah, so yeah, then he hops in the stingray and drives off and then,
- 1:36:03uh, he goes to the hotel where he knows, uh, Annie Pots is doing her
- 1:36:07thing, finds out where the room is.
- 1:36:09I forget how exactly being Well, has he got invited up earlier?
- 1:36:11Oh, that's right.
- 1:36:12He got like the room key or something and he like kicks it open and they're
- 1:36:15filming some sort of weird porno thing where she's in like one of those, you
- 1:36:19know, the room hot tubs and she has flippers on like one piece bikini, who
- 1:36:24are the senior citizens recording this.
- 1:36:27It was the, it was the sound guy and the ca it was the
- 1:36:29sound lady and the camera guy.
- 1:36:30It makes me wonder, like if the whole scenario was, I dunno if you guys
- 1:36:34have seen Rat Race where they, he is like in a tub with Pepto Bismol.
- 1:36:38You shave that type stuff.
- 1:36:40That's what I portrayed when I saw that scene of her in the tub
- 1:36:42with the scuba gear on type stuff.
- 1:36:44I'm like, how did this come to be?
- 1:36:45How much is that gonna cost?
- 1:36:47Uh, it's gonna be about $2,000.
- 1:36:48Who had $2,000?
- 1:36:50Yes.
- 1:36:50Mr. Tamagotchi had 2000 the closest I'm eccentric, you know,
- 1:36:57and I, he brought up Rat Race.
- 1:36:59And it's funny because I, I love that movie and I love anything with John Cle.
- 1:37:03There's one line I always remember from that movie and it's lovetts
- 1:37:06when he is yelling, I don't want to work at the Home Depot.
- 1:37:12I dunno what, my mind immediately goes there.
- 1:37:14Anytime somebody drinks up that movie.
- 1:37:16Look, LUT is insane.
- 1:37:18LUT is also like brilliant on film.
- 1:37:20He is so good.
- 1:37:21Have you seen him on Holy moly.
- 1:37:23That's all I'm gonna say.
- 1:37:24I haven't, but we do own every season of the critic.
- 1:37:27Oh, nice.
- 1:37:27Well, since there's only two, it's not that hard.
- 1:37:31The entire series, all 26 episodes.
- 1:37:35Yeah.
- 1:37:35Look babe, what are we doing tomorrow?
- 1:37:36I'm just saying I wanna watch the entirety of a franchise.
- 1:37:39Hey, she was scrolling through Voodoo and it said, bundle and save.
- 1:37:42She went, Ooh,
- 1:37:45look.
- 1:37:45It was the vine of its time.
- 1:37:46Okay.
- 1:37:48Yeah.
- 1:37:48So, uh, so he grabs Andy Potts, throw 'em over his shoulder or drags her out.
- 1:37:52Literally drags her out kicking and screaming with her flippers on and Yeah.
- 1:37:55Yeah, it's fantastic.
- 1:37:56And they hop in the car and drive off.
- 1:37:58Woo.
- 1:37:59But the, uh, owner of the, the chop shop or whatever, he's just getting into work,
- 1:38:03you know, an hour later he's management.
- 1:38:04Don't worry about it.
- 1:38:05And he sees the guy's like on death's door or whatever.
- 1:38:09So he hops in his, uh, was it a Camaro or something, and starts
- 1:38:12chasing It was a Firebird.
- 1:38:14Or Firebird, that's what it was.
- 1:38:16It was all black and it, yeah, off it looked like.
- 1:38:19It looked like a Camaro with a GTO front end.
- 1:38:22It was kind of weird.
- 1:38:23Yeah.
- 1:38:23Okay.
- 1:38:23So it was like a weird little custom 'cause I was trying to place it and
- 1:38:25couldn't quite do it, but, but yeah.
- 1:38:26Yeah.
- 1:38:26We laid Camaro back end.
- 1:38:28Yeah.
- 1:38:28He catches up with him, I don't know, a hundred miles outside of Vegas,
- 1:38:31you know, on the freeway there.
- 1:38:32He, he pulls a gun out, like starts firing at, threw his own window.
- 1:38:38He roll the window down, homie.
- 1:38:40His window was rolled down in a car with no air conditioning in the desert.
- 1:38:44I'm like, what?
- 1:38:45He was fueled by vengeance.
- 1:38:46Yeah, they chase around and like Kenny like pulls off the road,
- 1:38:50like goes into a quarry because he thought that was like, oh yeah, it's
- 1:38:53gonna hook up with the interstate and it's like a dead end freeway.
- 1:38:55Freeway.
- 1:38:56Like, what the fuck?
- 1:38:56And then they end up on route 6, 6, 6, Lou Diamond Phillips is waiting for him.
- 1:39:00Oh.
- 1:39:00And the whole time, uh, any poss is just like, oh, he trying to
- 1:39:04scam he so I'll get back with you.
- 1:39:05It's not gonna work.
- 1:39:06They're just trying to impress me and it's not working.
- 1:39:09I'm like, the guy literally has fired like three rounds at you?
- 1:39:11Yeah.
- 1:39:12Oh, isn't she like, jumps out the window is like bang, bang, bang.
- 1:39:15Big bang guy.
- 1:39:15I get it.
- 1:39:17So what I liked about this scene but then didn't like about the scene
- 1:39:21was that it felt like a complete rip off of Sally Field and Burt Rey.
- 1:39:25In smoking the Bandit like Oh absolutely.
- 1:39:28You know?
- 1:39:28So I was like, I'm okay with it.
- 1:39:29I'm, I'm good with it.
- 1:39:30But then what got me, because continuity is always an issue with
- 1:39:33any movie, when we were watching it, even my wife pointed out, she goes,
- 1:39:36wait a minute, the car is filthy.
- 1:39:37And it suddenly on those aerial shots, it's completely clean.
- 1:39:41Like they had gone back to the car wash in the previous scenes.
- 1:39:44Yeah, that was the left hand drive car.
- 1:39:46Ah, that's one more than, yeah, that makes way more sense.
- 1:39:49And then it was suddenly dirty again and I'm like, oh, okay.
- 1:39:52Whatever.
- 1:39:52Yeah.
- 1:39:52So eventually, yeah, he like doubles back and eventually is
- 1:39:55like, haha, here's the freeway.
- 1:39:57I do it all along.
- 1:39:58Basically the freeway is like coming soon, I don't know.
- 1:40:02Like it stops a mile later, turns around, they starts playing chicken
- 1:40:05with the bad guy and mm-hmm.
- 1:40:07I don't know, the bad guy pulls at the last minute and like rolls it and
- 1:40:10you know, they drive off into forever.
- 1:40:12But the bad guy then like crawls outta the car?
- 1:40:15No, he's like injured.
- 1:40:17Oh, and when he pulled out the gun and like looked down the barrel,
- 1:40:21I'm like, right, no, no, this is not how this movie is going to end.
- 1:40:26I thought that would've been dark, that bullet.
- 1:40:28But instead he like, then takes the gun, points it at the car 'cause it's
- 1:40:31like the horn's broken or whatever.
- 1:40:33So it's just making that.
- 1:40:35Pew boo fucking exploded.
- 1:40:40Horns run out of energy after like what?
- 1:40:4230 seconds?
- 1:40:43Yeah.
- 1:40:43Well if that, no car's back then, if there's a connection,
- 1:40:47it'll blow until the batter.
- 1:40:48The horn will keep until the battery die.
- 1:40:49There's okay, all that, that none of that is important.
- 1:40:52I gotta ask Dan a very important question 'cause he'll know the answer to this.
- 1:40:55Dan, how many cars can you blow up with a 38 special?
- 1:40:59None without any, any sort of like tannerite or Pyrex or something.
- 1:41:02Ah, okay.
- 1:41:03I it's just wanted to make sure That was one of the things that when I
- 1:41:07saw that, I was like, that is such Hollywood Bs, but, and they use C
- 1:41:11four instead of plaster on one of the fenders and Oh, that's how, oh my gosh.
- 1:41:16There you go.
- 1:41:16This is why he's gotta give up this whole operation over two
- 1:41:19cars instead of using fiberglass.
- 1:41:21They replaced it all with C four to smuggle it across the country.
- 1:41:23Yeah.
- 1:41:23Yeah.
- 1:41:24'cause you can't smuggle fiberglass.
- 1:41:25Uh, no.
- 1:41:27You can't sell C think she's saying they were smuggling with c4.
- 1:41:30Oh, gotcha.
- 1:41:30You replace the fiberglass with C four, that car is about to
- 1:41:34blow and like outside of zzi.
- 1:41:36Very high turnover on mules.
- 1:41:37It's more explosive than an accident, than a pento being rear-ended.
- 1:41:41Exactly.
- 1:41:42But you guys, this guy gets it, but you guys thought it was dark, you know, with
- 1:41:45him looking down the barrel of this 38 special, and I'm just kind of thinking
- 1:41:48to myself, there was a Tales from the Crypt episode where a guy gets left in
- 1:41:52the desert and the birds are circling.
- 1:41:54If you guys remember that.
- 1:41:54That one was so creepy.
- 1:41:57I had a similar thought here because this guy, as you mentioned, he's injured.
- 1:42:01He's got the stanky leg, he's over a hundred miles from Silverado
- 1:42:04autobody shop, and now he just blew up his only form of transportation,
- 1:42:08even if it was a clunker.
- 1:42:10So he's dying in the desert.
- 1:42:12Right.
- 1:42:12Well, but the freeway's coming soon, so that means the
- 1:42:14construction crew is coming by.
- 1:42:16Also be by any minute someone will show up.
- 1:42:18Look, Las Vegas only has two season, winter and construction.
- 1:42:22It's not winter, winter, very short.
- 1:42:24It's called Corvette Winter.
- 1:42:25Maybe those dudes in the Lowrider, I'll catch him before he dies.
- 1:42:28You know what I mean?
- 1:42:29On the way back, he's be there in a week.
- 1:42:30I saw it as the fact him shooting.
- 1:42:32It was the fact it was most likely also a stolen vehicle.
- 1:42:34So him shooting it was destroying evidence.
- 1:42:37Oh, that's actually a really good point.
- 1:42:38I did, I did look it up as the fact it's a 71 TransAm.
- 1:42:41Yeah.
- 1:42:42Fiber screaming chicken.
- 1:42:43Alright.
- 1:42:44By the way, that Corvette and those Transams and Camaros
- 1:42:47all share a similar platform.
- 1:42:49So they're all very similar cars.
- 1:42:50They're all, they all have 200 horsepower.
- 1:42:53But I'll say this, I'll say that this to to, you mentioned this earlier, Steve.
- 1:42:57The driving in that scene was actually really, really good.
- 1:43:00Yeah, yeah.
- 1:43:00Usually I find fault with a lot of those driving scenes,
- 1:43:03some of those chasing scenes.
- 1:43:04I mean, granted, this didn't have like.
- 1:43:06The seven ups type of chasing or like bullet or something like that.
- 1:43:09But it was short, it was concise and it was clean.
- 1:43:12Like there wasn't anything like dukes a hazard or anything like that.
- 1:43:14So I mad props to, you know, the team and the stuntmen for doing something
- 1:43:19that actually was pretty plausible.
- 1:43:21The best car chasing you've never heard of, you would even see with like the
- 1:43:23transition when they like go from like the sand to the asphalt and stuff.
- 1:43:27Like there'd be a little like sk, you know, and all that too.
- 1:43:30So it's like, oh yeah, this is real driver.
- 1:43:31And the drifting was really clean.
- 1:43:32I was like, whoever's behind the wheel is doing a good job.
- 1:43:35So, yeah.
- 1:43:36Well, when you mentioned when he looked down the barrel of the.
- 1:43:39Pistol.
- 1:43:39Shortly before that is when Mark Hamill's character pulls up behind the big boulder
- 1:43:44and just by chance he comes to the other side and Annie Pott's character
- 1:43:47hops up out and she's like, oh yeah.
- 1:43:48And you know, she's like, I'm not gonna be scared by this.
- 1:43:49'cause she thought it was just like something to scare her
- 1:43:51that Mark Hamill put on and the dude starts shooting at her.
- 1:43:54So maybe that's how he was checking to see if there was still any ammo in it.
- 1:43:58Which anyone who knows anything about firearms, it's a stupid way to check.
- 1:44:01But yeah, the exact opposite way you should be doing it.
- 1:44:05We, because that the Tiger King method, that's, that's,
- 1:44:09that's the Alec Baldwin method.
- 1:44:11Oh,
- 1:44:13dark, dark, dark.
- 1:44:14Alright.
- 1:44:14Speaking of dark, we're going back to high school guys.
- 1:44:17Woo.
- 1:44:19Because yeah, Kenny pulls up there with his, uh, new hooker
- 1:44:21girlfriend and uh Right.
- 1:44:22Basically drops off this dusty ass stingray God back.
- 1:44:27There's plenty of money for plenty of gas money, apparently.
- 1:44:29Well, you know, she, they had to make a few stops at a gas station
- 1:44:32and she had to make some money.
- 1:44:35I mean, she was in the scuba gear already.
- 1:44:37So
- 1:44:39April put some truck stop and she was a lot lizard on the way back.
- 1:44:42Oh, check it out.
- 1:44:42This bikini wipes right off this neoprene is amazing.
- 1:44:47And, and basically like he pulls the fire alarm, the whole school comes out and the
- 1:44:52principal's like, what's going down here?
- 1:44:55Did be auc.
- 1:44:55She's just running around in the background screaming.
- 1:44:58Yeah.
- 1:44:58Like, I don't dunno if you guys saw it, he's just like,
- 1:45:00ah, I was a sausage family.
- 1:45:04Ah, they said act natural.
- 1:45:06And his a DD just kicked in.
- 1:45:08He's like, took two lines of coke and Yeah.
- 1:45:11So they, was it off of hook's ass?
- 1:45:13Like in Wolf of Wall Street?
- 1:45:15Oh, it wasn't Annie p.
- 1:45:19Oh, Steve, that's not dust on that car.
- 1:45:21Oh shit.
- 1:45:23But yeah, basically like hands the keys to the principal.
- 1:45:26Like, well, yeah, what about the cops?
- 1:45:27Like, yeah, I didn't tell the cops.
- 1:45:29We should definitely inform the police.
- 1:45:31It's like, no, no, don't.
- 1:45:31They're very important.
- 1:45:33Right.
- 1:45:33Gotta, don't worry about it young lady.
- 1:45:35Do you have anything to say about this?
- 1:45:36Now, nah.
- 1:45:38Come at hand.
- 1:45:38He grabs her flip flops and her jeans and just walks off basically from there,
- 1:45:42like, uh, someone brings him his diploma.
- 1:45:44That's where I'm like, oh, okay.
- 1:45:45So he graduated.
- 1:45:46All right.
- 1:45:46That's cool.
- 1:45:47And then he like walks after Eleanor who's carrying her flip flops and stuff, and he
- 1:45:50is like, uh, hey, you with a funny walk.
- 1:45:54Like a true romantic.
- 1:45:55Mm-hmm.
- 1:45:56And, uh, yeah, they kiss and hug and, I don't know, walk off.
- 1:46:00And then, uh, the car wash during the credits.
- 1:46:02Car wash, no.
- 1:46:03And no car.
- 1:46:04Just that was a wet sanding.
- 1:46:06Well, and the weird thing is like when the teacher's talking to him
- 1:46:09at one point he's like, I need you to tell me what I need to hear.
- 1:46:10Or something, something along the lines of that.
- 1:46:12And it's like, what the hell do you want 'em to say?
- 1:46:14You know, that was like, that part in Ferris Bueller is like, well,
- 1:46:17that's how it is in that family.
- 1:46:19Super creepy.
- 1:46:21Like, it's just like r Okay.
- 1:46:23Yeah.
- 1:46:23So guys, would you recommend this movie?
- 1:46:25Yeah.
- 1:46:27For enjoyment or as punishment?
- 1:46:28What do I get to pick?
- 1:46:29I either way.
- 1:46:30If it's punishment, I mean mean no, you know, in all honest.
- 1:46:34I actually enjoyed it.
- 1:46:36Like we laughed.
- 1:46:37We had a good time.
- 1:46:37My wife and I watched it together.
- 1:46:39We talked about it as well, and it was fun.
- 1:46:41It was stupid, it was campy.
- 1:46:43There were some redeeming things, like some of these movies you go into and
- 1:46:46you're like, oh God, this is gonna hurt.
- 1:46:48It wasn't bad.
- 1:46:49Would I watch it again?
- 1:46:51Maybe not.
- 1:46:51I don't know who I would recommend it to.
- 1:46:54So I don't know how to answer, would I or not any broad spans.
- 1:46:59So you wouldn't, because you wouldn't just like call up your friend and be like, oh
- 1:47:03my God, have you seen Corvette Summer?
- 1:47:04No.
- 1:47:05You know that new movie you're looking for?
- 1:47:06Well watch this.
- 1:47:08How about you Matt?
- 1:47:08Man, I, I mean, I recommended it to Eric without even watching it.
- 1:47:11So, I mean, again, remember the punishment part we were talking about?
- 1:47:16Yeah.
- 1:47:17When I look at older movies, like I take into consideration when it
- 1:47:19was made, the way things were done.
- 1:47:21It's a seventies, early eighties mentality movie, and one of the
- 1:47:24big things that I took away from is like, much like the original Gone
- 1:47:27in 60 Seconds, an older movies.
- 1:47:28There was that fraud aspect of insurance, which I always see these movies.
- 1:47:31I'm wondering, was the insurance fraud that big of a problem back then that
- 1:47:35they kept making movies about it?
- 1:47:36Because it's an ongoing theme, all in all being a car.
- 1:47:39I enjoyed it for the cars in it, although the Corvette was horrible
- 1:47:42and Vanessa was definitely the star when it comes to the cars.
- 1:47:44Thousand percent.
- 1:47:45I agree.
- 1:47:45Yeah.
- 1:47:46Other than the square body, suburban, because hey, it's a square rock.
- 1:47:51Nice.
- 1:47:51Well, yeah, it sounds like a, yeah, I'd recommend it.
- 1:47:53How about you, babe?
- 1:47:54I would, and as you guys said, VanNess is like the star of this movie, and
- 1:47:59I would almost count this as a Vance exploitation film, which is a genre.
- 1:48:04As we've mentioned a few examples, I highly recommend you guys look up the
- 1:48:071970s short-lived van exploitation genre.
- 1:48:10We talked about the van and Super Van and its sequels.
- 1:48:14There's also CB Hustlers Love Truck, van Nuys Boulevard.
- 1:48:18Yeah.
- 1:48:19And yeah, there's a whole bunch of 'em.
- 1:48:20Specifically from like 1970 to like 1979.
- 1:48:25It's just movies with vans.
- 1:48:27Like explain the genre for those.
- 1:48:28The genre is like young people on adventures in vans.
- 1:48:32Yeah.
- 1:48:32It it's like teenagers trying to get laid because they souped up their
- 1:48:36van and they go to a party and Hi jinks and zoos or, or they go to
- 1:48:40a van festival or a van festival.
- 1:48:41Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:48:43So Scooby Doo meets American Pie.
- 1:48:45Okay, got it.
- 1:48:46Yeah, there, there, there's the, was it Super Van?
- 1:48:48It's like, oh yeah.
- 1:48:49Teenager.
- 1:48:50And his, his scientist friend developed this ultimate AI van with like weapons.
- 1:48:56Like it's something outta James Bond.
- 1:48:57Takes it out on the weekend for a weekend of hijinks.
- 1:49:01Mm-hmm.
- 1:49:01Yeah.
- 1:49:02I, I did see on Wikipedia, it's noted Van Nuys Boulevard is considered the
- 1:49:07most technically correct van film.
- 1:49:09So if you're looking for the vehicles and the technical correctness, like I look for
- 1:49:13accuracy when I watch movies like this.
- 1:49:19I'm a stickler for the facts.
- 1:49:21I knew you guys would, uh, find that very important fact.
- 1:49:24Nice.
- 1:49:24Well, speaking of dirty things, we basically went through most of the
- 1:49:27fun facts I had except $9 million budget, $15.5 million worldwide growth.
- 1:49:33It's a hits.
- 1:49:34And, uh, any guesses what the critics thought on Rotten Tomatoes?
- 1:49:37What percentage of 'em thought it was a good movie?
- 1:49:40Is this with 2022 inflation, or are we talking about 1970s?
- 1:49:45I'm guessing since 2000, if it's rot tomatoes, I don't
- 1:49:48know what's, what's the number?
- 1:49:50It's 56% with the critics.
- 1:49:52So just under fresh officially.
- 1:49:54Audience score though.
- 1:49:5643%. That's not bad.
- 1:49:58This movie was a lot better than I thought it was gonna be.
- 1:50:00I'm not gonna lie, any pots is fucking adorable.
- 1:50:03I mean, it's genuinely funny.
- 1:50:05There's some genuinely driving.
- 1:50:06Good driving.
- 1:50:07Done driving.
- 1:50:07Yeah.
- 1:50:07So I got a question.
- 1:50:08Since we love any pots in this movie, mark Hamill, whatever, right?
- 1:50:12I think he brought the fame and notoriety.
- 1:50:14Obviously he was riding that Star Wars high there or, or the cocaine high.
- 1:50:18We're not really sure which, but who would we replace Mark Hamill
- 1:50:22with if we were to recast the film?
- 1:50:24Here's before really.
- 1:50:25No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:50:26Come on.
- 1:50:27No, here's the thing.
- 1:50:27I don't think Mark Hamill does a bad job at being.
- 1:50:30Dope.
- 1:50:31Sort of dumb teenager.
- 1:50:32There's nobody else though from that era that you could replace him with.
- 1:50:35Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:50:35Kurt Russell, Matthew McConaughey, all rat.
- 1:50:39I'll rat out.
- 1:50:40Wait, is it Matthew McConaughey like six at this time?
- 1:50:42Yeah, I was gonna say, right?
- 1:50:44I, I have, get my, my, why did you come in bed with me?
- 1:50:50I dunno.
- 1:50:51But see, but see he was 27 years old playing a 16, 17-year-old.
- 1:50:56So I would say 18 since he graduated.
- 1:50:59That's right.
- 1:50:59I graduated 17.
- 1:51:01Are we gonna be mad about the ages?
- 1:51:03And if we are then are we gonna talk about like 9 0 2 1 oh, we're only
- 1:51:07any Well, no, no, what I'm saying, I don't have a problem with that.
- 1:51:10I'm saying he looked a lot younger than 27.
- 1:51:13So who in that time.
- 1:51:14Frame.
- 1:51:15I don't think Kurt Russell probably looked 18.
- 1:51:17Yeah, I guess he was.
- 1:51:18He was 27.
- 1:51:19Yeah.
- 1:51:19I guess the thing was like two years later, so yeah.
- 1:51:22Good point.
- 1:51:22Yeah.
- 1:51:22God, seventies, teenager.
- 1:51:24Ooh, leaf Garrett.
- 1:51:26No.
- 1:51:26I dunno.
- 1:51:28Like, I'm trying to think.
- 1:51:29Teenagers I know in the seventies, Jody Foster,
- 1:51:34same joke, dirty Foster and Annie Pot.
- 1:51:36I'd watch it.
- 1:51:37You know what, that's the Vanessa sequel.
- 1:51:40Yeah.
- 1:51:40Jackie or Haley.
- 1:51:42I, my, I was thinking Tom Selleck for a minute, but then I'm like, oh, it's
- 1:51:45just another episode of Magnum pi.
- 1:51:46So no.
- 1:51:47Oh yeah.
- 1:51:49No, because this character was too dumb.
- 1:51:51Right?
- 1:51:52There was multiple instances where he showed he was not the brightest
- 1:51:55crayon in the sharpest tool.
- 1:51:58In the box, we cast Peter Faulk walking around with his Columbo trench gun.
- 1:52:04Oh, Peter Faulks definitely the shop teacher.
- 1:52:07Oh yeah.
- 1:52:07Hundred percent.
- 1:52:08A hundred percent.
- 1:52:08Oh guys, I got it.
- 1:52:09Kevin Bacon, that fresh off like animal house.
- 1:52:12Oh yeah.
- 1:52:13Okay.
- 1:52:13That ago.
- 1:52:15You're welcome.
- 1:52:17Except for, here's the problem, like any pots looks like an actual child.
- 1:52:20Thanks to him.
- 1:52:22I mean, yeah.
- 1:52:24Don't make it, don't make it weird, Izzy.
- 1:52:25Don't make it weird.
- 1:52:26Okay.
- 1:52:26I'm just saying this adds to the budget because we have to like,
- 1:52:30to shoot in perspective and, and playing Kevin Bacon's mom.
- 1:52:33Kira Sedwick
- 1:52:38got, now if we, if we did this movie today, I would put Emma Stone, like
- 1:52:44in Cruella in the place of Andy Potts if we were gonna recast this guy.
- 1:52:48You just wanna see her as a hooker.
- 1:52:49I understand.
- 1:52:50Well, you know, hey, whatever.
- 1:52:51It's all good.
- 1:52:52I mean, sure she's like in her late thirties, but.
- 1:52:55I get it.
- 1:52:56We just do the Stranger Things thing.
- 1:52:57It's, uh, 11 and, uh, Finn Wolfhard or whatever are the two people.
- 1:53:01Yeah.
- 1:53:02Billy, Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard.
- 1:53:03You guys 18 yet?
- 1:53:07That's awesome.
- 1:53:07But yeah, that's a, that's all we got guys.
- 1:53:09Uh, I don't know any, any important lessons we learned from this movie
- 1:53:12since that's our, our podcast.
- 1:53:14Anything you learned from movie?
- 1:53:15I think I learned that I can probably keep up on foot with a C3 Corvette.
- 1:53:20So, uh, you know, we're gonna test this theory out.
- 1:53:23So here's, here's a little one for cars in the movie.
- 1:53:26'cause I'm digging through, looking at some stuff.
- 1:53:28Eric, there was a 73 Schutz Black Hawk in it.
- 1:53:31No, really?
- 1:53:32Yeah, it's there on the strip during one of the scenes.
- 1:53:34It's white.
- 1:53:35Oh, nice.
- 1:53:35By the way, this is one of the funkiest seventies cars ever.
- 1:53:38Like celebrities like Elvis had one and whatever.
- 1:53:41Dan wrote a whole article about it.
- 1:53:43We'll share it with, with our audience.
- 1:53:44We'll actually bring it back out from the grave.
- 1:53:46Do a little throwback, throwback Thursday.
- 1:53:47It's a G body that had, if I recall correctly, Italian influence on
- 1:53:51the designing of it, but it was basically Monte Carlo chassis and
- 1:53:55it had the exhaust coming out, you know, running down the side of it.
- 1:53:59Ooh.
- 1:53:59So Oh yeah.
- 1:54:01Oh shit.
- 1:54:01That looks like, um, that looks like the car.
- 1:54:03Yeah, the car.
- 1:54:04Yeah.
- 1:54:05A little modified stuff.
- 1:54:06It's it'ss, A pimp mobile.
- 1:54:07Yeah.
- 1:54:07A little bit of Cruella Deville in there as well, but yeah, it's, oh yeah.
- 1:54:09Yeah, I can see it.
- 1:54:10It's like the European cousin of the car.
- 1:54:13Yeah.
- 1:54:13The way it looks like style.
- 1:54:14Yeah.
- 1:54:14The stylish English version.
- 1:54:16Yeah.
- 1:54:16Yeah.
- 1:54:16Have you folks seen the car?
- 1:54:17No, what is that?
- 1:54:19Oh, it's a, it's a killer car movie.
- 1:54:21It's like, uh, people in the middle of the desert being chased by a
- 1:54:24sentient car or chasing them down.
- 1:54:26Yeah, I think it's from like 77, 78, 77.
- 1:54:29I feel like maybe that's a great, uh, segue.
- 1:54:32They did a of it too.
- 1:54:33Didn't James Roland's in it?
- 1:54:35Yeah.
- 1:54:35Yeah.
- 1:54:35Two bicyclists are run down by a strange black car in the
- 1:54:38desert near a small town in Utah.
- 1:54:40This is just the first in a series of hit and run murders.
- 1:54:43Sheriff Wade pe James Brolin is called to investigate, and his Deputy Everett
- 1:54:48John Marley is killed by the black sedan.
- 1:54:50That's right.
- 1:54:50That's the movie with the, the music from The Shining.
- 1:54:53The Yes.
- 1:54:58Yeah.
- 1:54:58They built this cool big custom car for it.
- 1:55:01The car is like often referred to as the brother of Christine.
- 1:55:06Oh, okay.
- 1:55:07I've seen that movie.
- 1:55:08Yeah.
- 1:55:09Okay.
- 1:55:09I'm looking up pictures of it right now.
- 1:55:11Definitely.
- 1:55:11It's like a modified Lincoln Continental or something.
- 1:55:13Definitely a menacing looking, uh, front end on it.
- 1:55:15Right?
- 1:55:16It's a fun, bad, cheesy horror movie.
- 1:55:18Have a couple of drinks and have some fun watching it.
