- 1:11Speaker 2: episode coming this month.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I feel like we've been saying that for weeks now. No,
- 1:16Speaker 1: but it's guys, it's coming.
- 1:18Speaker 2: It is very early August as we were recording this,
- 1:20Speaker 2: So don't worry, don't worry, it's gonna happen. Yeah, let's
- 1:25Speaker 2: hear a synopsis for Providence follows two detectives, Cora and Liam,
- 1:31Speaker 2: must solve a murder.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Meanwhile, despite Liam's hidden love for Cora, he pushes her
- 1:37Speaker 1: towards Da Finn Walsh, her faded match in order to
- 1:42Speaker 1: change their destinies.
- 1:44Speaker 2: An Impossible Promise was directed by Cheven Divine. Last week
- 1:47Speaker 2: we mentioned that Lucy Guest directed all three of these movies.
- 1:50Speaker 2: That was incorrect. It's unclear which director will take on
- 1:53Speaker 2: the third movie.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I looked, I can't find any information. Joining the cast
- 1:59Speaker 1: as mag and this is Samir Salem. Samar was previously
- 2:02Speaker 1: seen on The Chicken Sisters as Jay. He's also appeared
- 2:06Speaker 1: in this series Hudson and Rex, Untamed and Allegiance.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Full Vio Cisteri plays retired detective Leo. Fullyo has a
- 2:15Speaker 2: deep resume of one hundred and eighty nine acting credits,
- 2:18Speaker 2: including Timeless and Unreal, as well as appearances in Love,
- 2:22Speaker 2: The Thanksgiving Day Parade and Chronicle Mysteries. For Homemark, Nil
- 2:26Speaker 2: Mater makes a surprise to us appearent, you know, because
- 2:31Speaker 2: some people knew he was going to be in this
- 2:32Speaker 2: I did not.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Neither did. When he showed up on the screen, I
- 2:35Speaker 1: was like, Hey, what a great surprise, just like seeing
- 2:38Speaker 1: him as like that DJ in.
- 2:40Speaker 2: That DJ Ginger Jeff, Yeah, exactly.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Nile plays Bail from the Bad Place. He's a countdown
- 2:48Speaker 1: to Christmas regular as you know the past several years,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and we're hoping to see him in the lineup again
- 2:54Speaker 1: this year.
- 2:55Speaker 2: We are going to take a quick break and we'll
- 2:57Speaker 2: come right back with our first impressions. Hey, Wendy, what
- 3:08Speaker 2: was your first impression of Providence falls to an impossible promise?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Well, Finn went from golden retriever to full on wolf
- 3:17Speaker 1: the second he picked up that pole. Q.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Oh, well, I mean shepherd energy.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean I did send you like photos
- 3:28Speaker 1: as I was like watching it.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yes, you did, which I have questions about when we'll
- 3:34Speaker 2: get to them.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Questions about my photos are that scene.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It's more of a general question.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Okay, okay, what was your first impression? The first impression
- 3:43Speaker 1: is say it isn't so susette, oh so good and
- 3:48Speaker 1: so bad at the same time.
- 3:50Speaker 2: So my question to you is, and it occurred to
- 3:55Speaker 2: me to ask this as you were sending me these photos,
- 3:57Speaker 2: because to me, it doesn't seem like there is a
- 4:00Speaker 2: question Team Liam or team Finn.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Oh oh oh, I'm team Finn's team Finn. But we're
- 4:07Speaker 1: gonna talk. We're gonna really talk about it. I have
- 4:10Speaker 1: like thought about this movie. I have analyzed this movie.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I have like written down my thoughts and tried to
- 4:17Speaker 1: like figure things out about this movie.
- 4:21Speaker 2: You know, I acted like I was really offended. I actually,
- 4:23Speaker 2: in this case don't think there currently is a wrong answer.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I think they're doing a really nice job. I mentioned
- 4:29Speaker 2: this in our first review of like making it hard
- 4:32Speaker 2: for the viewer to choose a team.
- 4:35Speaker 1: That's interesting. That's an interesting thought.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Okay, And I just want to say that I did
- 4:39Speaker 2: read the first book. I didn't finish the second book.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I just didn't have time. I planned too because I'm curious,
- 4:44Speaker 2: and hopefully by the time we do our third review,
- 4:46Speaker 2: I will have read both of those. But I want
- 4:50Speaker 2: to say that in the second book, the number of
- 4:52Speaker 2: times Liam calls Finn a total bore is really interesting,
- 4:58Speaker 2: and I feel like it's a very different edit that
- 5:00Speaker 2: he's getting in the movies. So just a different view.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I have lots of thoughts. I have lots of thoughts,
- 5:07Speaker 1: But can we first get into our likes?
- 5:09Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 5:10Speaker 1: Mentioned up top Nil Maters casting as Bail such a
- 5:15Speaker 1: fun surprise, great love as the bad guy. I loved
- 5:19Speaker 1: him as a bad guy. His presence, it just elevates
- 5:23Speaker 1: the stakes for me. It's fun to see like a
- 5:27Speaker 1: recognizable Hallmark face. Not that like Evan Rodrick isn't a
- 5:32Speaker 1: recognizable Hallmark face. He is, but I mean Nile Mater
- 5:36Speaker 1: is like Hallmark heavyweight, right, So it was like fun
- 5:40Speaker 1: to see him just like pop up in this role
- 5:42Speaker 1: as a bad guy.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I loved it. I'm hoping that brings some more eyes
- 5:46Speaker 2: to this trilogy because the viewer numbers came out for
- 5:50Speaker 2: this the first movie, and they were not great at all.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And I don't really know what's going on. I don't
- 5:58Speaker 2: you and I talked about it a little bit, and
- 6:00Speaker 2: I don't know if it's like a it's a little
- 6:04Speaker 2: too different from what viewers are expecting from Hallmark and
- 6:06Speaker 2: so therefore they just didn't tune in or a trilogy,
- 6:11Speaker 2: a true trilogy is really outside of what Hallmark does.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Never mind the tone of the movies, because some people
- 6:16Speaker 2: are like, is it a romance? Is it a mystery?
- 6:19Speaker 2: I'm like porquet Nolos does, like why can.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I be both? Right?
- 6:23Speaker 2: But also the true trilogy, not like A Heart's around
- 6:27Speaker 2: the Table where you have a cast to the dis
- 6:30Speaker 2: centered around each other, but a one follows the next
- 6:33Speaker 2: is very different. So all of this to say I
- 6:36Speaker 2: should have put this in my wishes. I just thought
- 6:38Speaker 2: of it now, though, I do hope this brings more
- 6:40Speaker 2: viewers to the table. Like nil Materer is here, y'all
- 6:43Speaker 2: jump in.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm kind of surprised by the reactions I saw
- 6:49Speaker 1: to the movie for the first movie, and also surprised
- 6:54Speaker 1: by the numbers being so low. Yeah. I think if
- 7:01Speaker 1: you're not watching this, I think you're missing out. I
- 7:05Speaker 1: think it's a really good mini series. I think so too.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I think it's one hundred percent worth a watch on Hamewark.
- 7:12Speaker 2: If you watched all four unwrapping Christmas movies during count
- 7:14Speaker 2: under Christmas. Oh, I command you to watch this trilogy.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yes, I agree. Look, they're not paying us to say
- 7:22Speaker 1: this either. Guys, like, we truly.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Like this genuinely? Yeah, yeah, yeah, back to our likes.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yes and piggybacking off your like of Nihil Mator as bail.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I loved the twist we get of Susette being in
- 7:37Speaker 2: cahoots oh with the guy from the Bad Place. Those
- 7:41Speaker 2: are my words, not theirs. Now we really don't know
- 7:44Speaker 2: her backstory. We don't know what's going on there.
- 7:48Speaker 1: You know.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Is she in the same situation that Liam is. We
- 7:51Speaker 2: don't know which I loved. I want to I want
- 7:55Speaker 2: a tangent here real quick. I listened to the Deck,
- 7:58Speaker 2: the Hallmark review of the first movie because I was
- 8:02Speaker 2: really afraid of what they were gonna say about it,
- 8:04Speaker 2: because I listened to parts of their preview show where
- 8:06Speaker 2: they're like, we don't get it, we don't understand, and
- 8:10Speaker 2: I was really hoping to be vindicated when they watched it,
- 8:14Speaker 2: and overall they did like it. But do you remember
- 8:17Speaker 2: in the first movie, Susette makes a lassie reference. She
- 8:21Speaker 2: says something about like to say people Tommy in the well,
- 8:25Speaker 2: I don't uh. I do vaguely remember that, so I
- 8:28Speaker 2: didn't really bump on it, but they did, and they're like,
- 8:30Speaker 2: that's such a weird, outdated reference. Well that point of
- 8:33Speaker 2: me hearing them say that, I had already seen movie too,
- 8:36Speaker 2: and I knew what we were getting from Susette, and
- 8:37Speaker 2: I was like, wait a minute, that lassie comment combined
- 8:43Speaker 2: with this little tidbit of information we have about Susette
- 8:45Speaker 2: tells me that perhaps Susette is not of this time.
- 8:50Speaker 1: M oh interesting because she made such an outdated reference
- 8:54Speaker 1: about Lassie.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah, like, look, I make a Lassie reference honestly, quite regularly.
- 9:01Speaker 1: You do. I don't think I've ever heard it before.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Tell me you like, it's just like to my dogs,
- 9:06Speaker 2: Like if they're trying to tell me something like, I
- 9:08Speaker 2: will say, like this Timmy and the well, h I
- 9:12Speaker 2: watched LASTI as a child.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I I did.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I'll be in reruns nine it's original airing, but someone
- 9:21Speaker 2: Susette and Kora's age wouldn't have and the deck the
- 9:24Speaker 2: Hallmark guys did go so far as to check to
- 9:26Speaker 2: see if it is actively streaming anywhere and it is not.
- 9:29Speaker 1: So wow, uh, I just think that may be a
- 9:33Speaker 1: clue there. Oh, I mean, I love that kind of intel.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Thank you for bringing that to my attention. The twist
- 9:44Speaker 1: at the end with Susette is absolutely brutal, but also
- 9:51Speaker 1: so brilliant. And we don't see that kind of deep
- 9:58Speaker 1: betrayal like between two close female friends on Hallmark that often,
- 10:04Speaker 1: if ever, for sure, So that's why it came as
- 10:09Speaker 1: such a blind side to me. Now, thinking back, I
- 10:13Speaker 1: was like, okay, okay, Like now maybe the pieces are
- 10:16Speaker 1: kind of falling into place a little bit right of
- 10:21Speaker 1: why she was asking so many questions and so on
- 10:23Speaker 1: and so forth. Anyway, man, I just thought it was
- 10:25Speaker 1: juicy and heartbreaking all in the right ways. I loved it, great,
- 10:28Speaker 1: great twist at the end. Well, to me, it adds
- 10:31Speaker 1: so many more layers because we saw what I thought
- 10:35Speaker 1: was Suzette and Finn having a little bit of flirtation,
- 10:39Speaker 1: maybe feeling each other a little bit in the huh.
- 10:42Speaker 1: And for me, who's very hardcore Teine Liam, I was like, yeah,
- 10:46Speaker 1: let's do that. That absolves everybody, right, Like everybody's happy.
- 10:50Speaker 1: This is the great solution.
- 10:52Speaker 2: But then when you get to that final scene, you think, okay,
- 10:56Speaker 2: how real was that on Susette's end?
- 10:59Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, who knows? God that scene when he
- 11:02Speaker 1: like is wrapping her hand and then he kisses it
- 11:04Speaker 1: and he's like, I'm sorry, I don't know why to
- 11:05Speaker 1: see that, I was like, ha, looks eccuss me let
- 11:09Speaker 1: me cool down here for a second. Like it was
- 11:12Speaker 1: so nuanced. But I just loved it so much, so
- 11:16Speaker 1: so much.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Who needs a zipper when you have a little hand Kiss.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Yes we are Zipper. We're referring to last week's movie. Yes,
- 11:25Speaker 1: it was hot. Yes, so one thing I really liked,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and I have a big list of likes. Here's my
- 11:31Speaker 1: next one. I thought the final act of this movie
- 11:34Speaker 1: really delivered. I'm gonna say here is gonna kind of
- 11:38Speaker 1: sound like a wish and I will talk about it
- 11:39Speaker 1: in my wishes. But like, overall, the movie is a
- 11:43Speaker 1: slow build, but this last fifteen minutes of this movie
- 11:47Speaker 1: like finally kicked into high gear and I just like
- 11:51Speaker 1: couldn't tear my eyes away from the TV. It was
- 11:53Speaker 1: like reveal after reveal after reveal. I'm I really liked it.
- 11:59Speaker 1: The the tension when Cora is looking through the room
- 12:03Speaker 1: at Magnus's house and sees the money and she almost
- 12:06Speaker 1: gets caught, and then he pulls the gun out on
- 12:09Speaker 1: her and then they have their whole like she ends
- 12:13Speaker 1: up in the water and it's saved, and then Susette's
- 12:17Speaker 1: betrayal and then oh, just all of it was so good.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that's really great. And I to contrast that with
- 12:24Speaker 2: like the reveal in the first movie where she catches
- 12:28Speaker 2: Dominic's stepdad. I can't even remember his name, and he
- 12:32Speaker 2: like takes off running in the moment that I found
- 12:34Speaker 2: so ridiculous. This is such the antithesis of that. This
- 12:39Speaker 2: really delivered. That scene in Magnus's house was like true tension.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I agree.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Can I talk This movie I thought was very funny.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Can I share some of my favorite lines?
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 12:51Speaker 2: Suzette says, I'm chronically open minded? Made me laugh really
- 12:54Speaker 2: hard when Aggon is revealed to be an angel. To Suette,
- 12:57Speaker 2: She's like, I don't see any wings. He says they're metaphorical.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Great, hilarious. Uh huh.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Liam at one point says trust is kind of built
- 13:03Speaker 2: into the whole celestial concept. Cora says, I guess they
- 13:06Speaker 2: did change math. Made me laugh because.
- 13:08Speaker 1: That was hilarious.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yes, who tries to look at their children's math and
- 13:12Speaker 2: it's like a completely different language. Also, you really are
- 13:16Speaker 2: just an annoyingly decent person, aren't you? Liam? To Finn,
- 13:18Speaker 2: there were many more, but these are just a few
- 13:20Speaker 2: that I bumped on. I think there's a lot of
- 13:22Speaker 2: humor built into a movie that is definitely not a comedy.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure, you already know. I mean it's obvious
- 13:29Speaker 1: I'm team Finn and granted the scene where Liam is
- 13:37Speaker 1: walking out of the water with Cora after he saves
- 13:40Speaker 1: her from drowning and they kiss undeniably romantic. It was great.
- 13:46Speaker 1: It was a great, great, great scene. But it's Evan
- 13:49Speaker 1: Roderick's reaction the heartbreak as Finn watches from a distance
- 13:55Speaker 1: made me feel something. It was in that moment where
- 13:59Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, now this is why I'm team Finn.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It was just so good. It was so good. It
- 14:08Speaker 1: was so dramatic too in the music, which I'm gonna
- 14:11Speaker 1: talk about in a second, but like, ah, I just
- 14:13Speaker 1: thought it was so great.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Well, I got a team Liam, you just for fun.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I think that they did a really nice job building
- 14:20Speaker 2: the tension between Liam and Cora throughout this movie, and
- 14:23Speaker 2: I love that it starts with right up top. Cora
- 14:28Speaker 2: has been rejected, so to speak, by Liam, and she's
- 14:31Speaker 2: kind of being cool to him, but she's trying to
- 14:32Speaker 2: be like, it's fine, We're good. Then they share a
- 14:35Speaker 2: hug that is like not a friendly coworker hug. It's
- 14:39Speaker 2: very close. It lasts a long time, and then we
- 14:43Speaker 2: close on this kiss after being saved. They're telling it
- 14:48Speaker 2: to me, Okay, okay, are we are? We are we
- 14:53Speaker 2: duking it out over a team Finn team No, because
- 14:56Speaker 2: as said, I don't think there's a wrong answer here.
- 14:59Speaker 2: In some fandoms, Hello the summer I turned pretty I
- 15:03Speaker 2: do think there are some wrong answers. Anyway, Do you
- 15:07Speaker 2: have more likes? I do two more again? Finn as
- 15:13Speaker 2: a pool shark.
- 15:14Speaker 1: It was for me. I have said it for many years.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Evan Roderick is a baby Tyler Hines. I think they
- 15:21Speaker 1: have a very similar look, the way they move, their
- 15:26Speaker 1: acting styles are very similar. I think they should play
- 15:29Speaker 1: brothers in a movie. But when he comes out and
- 15:31Speaker 1: he's wearing a bead and he's drinking a beer, I mean.
- 15:37Speaker 2: And the way the ladies react to him.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I thought it was so good. Now did
- 15:44Speaker 1: I think like I thought like the pool plane and
- 15:47Speaker 1: stuff was a little bit hokey, just because I think
- 15:50Speaker 1: I've seen Dylan McKay do it better on Beverly Hills
- 15:54Speaker 1: nine O two one oh, yes, where my gen xers at.
- 15:58Speaker 1: But I just thought it was such a great scene,
- 16:00Speaker 1: such a great scene, totally. I loved it. My final
- 16:03Speaker 1: like is agon. I just love him so much. I
- 16:06Speaker 1: love that he's like invested in his soap opera story
- 16:09Speaker 1: every single day. He gives great one liners. You mentioned
- 16:13Speaker 1: when earlier. I he feels like he's part of the
- 16:18Speaker 1: audience watching it, and I just love it, love him.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Let's talk wishes.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:28Speaker 2: I have a thought here. Okay, after the first episode,
- 16:31Speaker 2: there was a lot of feedback and I want to
- 16:34Speaker 2: read two comments really quickly. There was a lot of feedback,
- 16:38Speaker 2: but these two stood out to me and I want
- 16:39Speaker 2: to talk about this concept. The first was left on
- 16:42Speaker 2: our YouTube channel and by Catherine, who says, love the
- 16:46Speaker 2: first movie in this series. I don't appreciate the flashbacks,
- 16:49Speaker 2: hard to understand the present day connection. Am I missing
- 16:52Speaker 2: the point? Looking forward to the next show to understand
- 16:54Speaker 2: the connection and the rules the angels were putting out
- 16:56Speaker 2: there for the redemption. A follow up comment and left
- 17:00Speaker 2: on Facebook by Jane, who says love the movie, but
- 17:04Speaker 2: felt the transition between time periods could have been handled
- 17:06Speaker 2: less abruptly, perhaps using a graphic of some kind to
- 17:10Speaker 2: warn the viewer that the scene was going to shift
- 17:12Speaker 2: back and forth between eighteen forty four and the present.
- 17:15Speaker 2: So looking forward to an impossible promise and the appearance
- 17:18Speaker 2: of Nile Mater.
- 17:19Speaker 1: So Genie Oh Jeane's a super Nile fan. Yes, she's
- 17:24Speaker 1: in a Facebook group.
- 17:26Speaker 2: First, my question is did you have trouble with the
- 17:28Speaker 2: transitions in the first movie as well? Uh?
- 17:31Speaker 1: Not the transitions? And I have thought a lot about this,
- 17:34Speaker 1: like why don't I like this period piece parts of it?
- 17:37Speaker 2: It's not the.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Transitions to me, I under I want, for one, personally,
- 17:43Speaker 1: feel like I understand why they need to revisit those
- 17:47Speaker 1: parts because they need to show us, like what happened
- 17:50Speaker 1: there to understand like it repeating itself in the in
- 17:54Speaker 1: present day.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Yeah, we had to understand Liam and Cora's backstory and
- 17:58Speaker 2: why it matters.
- 17:59Speaker 1: To him, right right, But no, the transition part of
- 18:03Speaker 1: it didn't. Didn't bother me.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I wondered a lot of the flashback takes place in
- 18:09Speaker 2: this movie in the form of egg on watching the footage,
- 18:12Speaker 2: and so I'm curious for those of you that struggled
- 18:15Speaker 2: with the time jumps, because I heard this reflected in
- 18:18Speaker 2: a number of comments. I didn't find it hard to follow.
- 18:22Speaker 2: To me, it's so obvious when they're in a different
- 18:24Speaker 2: time corus hair is so much longer, their dressed very differently,
- 18:27Speaker 2: Like it's just a couple seconds of they're talking with.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Yeah, they all have exactly.
- 18:33Speaker 2: But I wondered, for people that didn't love the jump
- 18:36Speaker 2: back and forth, was it better watching it through egg
- 18:40Speaker 2: On's eyes, because it seems like that was more prevalent
- 18:44Speaker 2: in this movie than the first time. Yeah, it was
- 18:45Speaker 2: more obvious. Yes, movie firing up a VHS. So let
- 18:52Speaker 2: us know, girls gone homework at gmail dot com. Let
- 18:54Speaker 2: me share my first big wish. Yeah, I the Pacine
- 18:59Speaker 2: feel off.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Here and let me let me explain. I know it's
- 19:04Speaker 1: a miniseries and I know we're building an arc, right
- 19:09Speaker 1: Like I don't know all the Murvy movie terminology. I
- 19:12Speaker 1: should at this point, but I don't. But to me,
- 19:14Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, we're building an arc. But Movie one
- 19:17Speaker 1: and two thirds of movie two were kind of slow
- 19:22Speaker 1: to me. And I know I'm not alone because I
- 19:25Speaker 1: have seen some criticism out there that other people thought
- 19:28Speaker 1: it was a little bit slow too. And for me personally,
- 19:31Speaker 1: I don't need I don't need like big moments. I
- 19:34Speaker 1: don't need explosions or like chase scenes or anything like that.
- 19:37Speaker 1: But like the plot for me didn't start snapping together
- 19:40Speaker 1: until the very end, when like the puzzle pieces were
- 19:44Speaker 1: starting to get pieced together in this movie too. I
- 19:49Speaker 1: fear that the slow pace is maybe a.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Reason why viewers have lost.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Maybe like tap out before, but they like they're not
- 20:03Speaker 1: even watching it, like they're not even getting a chance to. Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 1: But I saw a lot of like commentary that like,
- 20:08Speaker 1: oh I tried to watch the first half of the
- 20:10Speaker 1: movie and it was like not for me, or it
- 20:12Speaker 1: was slow and I didn't watch it. So you know,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I'm like, just stick with it. Just stick with it,
- 20:17Speaker 1: because the end of movie two has incredible emotional payoff.
- 20:22Speaker 1: So question, do you think that there's an audience on
- 20:25Speaker 1: Homework who is frustrated by the portrayal of this silly
- 20:29Speaker 1: goofy heaven situation. I think I've seen it, Yeah, commented
- 20:36Speaker 1: on time and time again. Yeah, I do.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I wonder if that's a turn off.
- 20:40Speaker 1: I mean I talked about it in movie one, like
- 20:42Speaker 1: I was like, what what is this? Like, I'm confused,
- 20:45Speaker 1: how does this work? I don't like how it looks
- 20:47Speaker 1: et cetera, et cetera. Maybe, but I mean we've accepted
- 20:52Speaker 1: way weirder stuff with other Homework movies. To finish the spot.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I do wish they would have moved maybe like the
- 20:59Speaker 1: action and their revelations earlier into movie too, because now
- 21:04Speaker 1: I feel like we're entering the finale movie and it's
- 21:07Speaker 1: gonna be like everything is gonna be crammed in. Yes,
- 21:11Speaker 1: I hear you, That's what I'm worried about.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I would like to kind of repeat one of my
- 21:15Speaker 2: wishes elaborate on it from the first movie. I talked
- 21:19Speaker 2: about how I didn't really understand how if something is
- 21:22Speaker 2: someone's destiny, why they need someone to step in and
- 21:25Speaker 2: make it happen. To me, it seems like the whole
- 21:27Speaker 2: idea of destiny is that it's going to happen regardless.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Perhaps I just don't understand. This would be another great
- 21:33Speaker 2: way for someone who understands the concept of destiny to
- 21:36Speaker 2: drop us an email, Girls Gone Hallmark at gmail dot com,
- 21:39Speaker 2: because Eggon and Samil are really stressed out. Eggon more
- 21:43Speaker 2: than some mail that history is repeating itself. He's like,
- 21:47Speaker 2: I don't understand this. It seems so strange, she says,
- 21:50Speaker 2: And my notes are like in all caps. Is it
- 21:53Speaker 2: like you're worried about their destiny? Maybe you're wrong about
- 21:57Speaker 2: what their destiny is? Like, Yeah, exactly, I understand.
- 22:00Speaker 1: We get this.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Reveal at the end that Korra, it's less about her
- 22:03Speaker 2: falling in love and I'm going to talk about they
- 22:05Speaker 2: talk about the person she needs by her side in
- 22:07Speaker 2: a minute later on, but they're so set on her
- 22:11Speaker 2: getting this second chances situation seen through to fruition. Maybe
- 22:16Speaker 2: that isn't her destiny if it never ever happens. We
- 22:19Speaker 2: see the promise of it, the impossible promise, if you will.
- 22:24Speaker 2: But perhaps the right thing isn't always the destiny. Maybe
- 22:30Speaker 2: that's the lesson here.
- 22:32Speaker 1: That maybe that is the lesson. You're right.
- 22:35Speaker 2: But in the book they talk a little bit about
- 22:37Speaker 2: free will, and I didn't I haven't read the entire
- 22:39Speaker 2: second book, but they talk about like we can't eliminate
- 22:42Speaker 2: his free will, but they talk about how Liam interrupted
- 22:45Speaker 2: her destiny by sneaking into her window. Okay, then maybe
- 22:50Speaker 2: he don't. I don't understand the concept of destiny, like
- 22:53Speaker 2: do we have free will or do we have destiny?
- 22:56Speaker 2: I don't understand, Like here's your ideal outcome, but humans
- 23:00Speaker 2: and their pesky free will break in and mess it
- 23:05Speaker 2: up in every single lifetime. And agon's like in every lifetime.
- 23:09Speaker 2: She died too young and she wasn't able like we
- 23:11Speaker 2: keep trying to reboot her, basically reincarnate her, and in
- 23:15Speaker 2: every lifetime she dies young and she's not able to
- 23:18Speaker 2: complete her destiny.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Okay, maybe we learn a lesson here, maybe she's not
- 23:25Speaker 1: supposed to do that. Yeah, exactly, do.
- 23:28Speaker 2: You have any more wishes for this? Oh?
- 23:31Speaker 1: My gosh, yes I do.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Okay, let's hear it, Yes I do.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Well this, I'm not sure who I'm supposed to be
- 23:40Speaker 1: rooting for in terms of fin Enlum, because we've been
- 23:46Speaker 1: told Finn is Corus true love, but we haven't been
- 23:49Speaker 1: told why until we get obviously to the very end
- 23:54Speaker 1: of the movie that like, for her to fulfill her
- 23:57Speaker 1: destiny with second chances, she needs him by her side,
- 24:01Speaker 1: right mm hmm. Yes, he is a good guy, but
- 24:06Speaker 1: there is like no spark, no fire between them at all.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I don't think, like, even though I'm rooting for him,
- 24:14Speaker 1: like there is like no chemistry between these two.
- 24:16Speaker 2: So yeah, that was gonna be my question. You're rooting
- 24:18Speaker 2: for him because you like him, not because you see
- 24:21Speaker 2: that day together.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Okay, fair, fair enough. But then on the flip side
- 24:26Speaker 1: that we have Liam who's like framed as this bad
- 24:29Speaker 1: boy but in present day he's also a good guy,
- 24:32Speaker 1: like he's kind, thoughtful, self sacrificing, and clearly Kora has
- 24:38Speaker 1: more chemistry with him in her dreams and in flashbacks
- 24:42Speaker 1: and even in present day. So I'm just confused, like
- 24:46Speaker 1: this whole love triangle, like it's it's confusing to me.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Well, so I had was going to discuss this of
- 24:55Speaker 2: my digit see that, but I it's important here. Samiel
- 24:59Speaker 2: says she can only accomplish second chances. We know that,
- 25:02Speaker 2: like it's bigger than her finding her true love. They
- 25:04Speaker 2: want her to see second chances through to fruition, like
- 25:08Speaker 2: it's gonna have far reaching positive effects, right, that's what
- 25:12Speaker 2: we're going for here, And she says she can only
- 25:15Speaker 2: accomplish secondhand chances with someone truly good on her side.
- 25:19Speaker 2: She doesn't say she can only accomplish second chances with
- 25:22Speaker 2: Finn by her side. Interesting, so to me, in my brain,
- 25:27Speaker 2: I feel like that angels have bumped on. Finn is
- 25:30Speaker 2: a good guy objectively, a little complicated, but he's a
- 25:34Speaker 2: good guy. So he must be her destiny because he
- 25:37Speaker 2: keeps running into her in every lifetime he's there, they're
- 25:42Speaker 2: engaged in certain lifetimes. They just never see it.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Through.
- 25:45Speaker 2: My question is kind of going back to the destiny
- 25:48Speaker 2: of it all. Like you said, Liam is in present
- 25:50Speaker 2: day a good guy. Are we suggesting that there's no
- 25:54Speaker 2: redemption for him? He's had a bad guy past. He
- 25:57Speaker 2: wasn't a great guy one hundred and fifty years ago.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Where circumstances put him in the position where they don't
- 26:04Speaker 2: discuss this in the movies, but in the first book,
- 26:05Speaker 2: like he's stealing because he's trying to feed his brother's family,
- 26:09Speaker 2: they have children, He's trying to put food on the table.
- 26:13Speaker 2: There are circumstances that have put him in this position.
- 26:16Speaker 2: He's not necessarily motivated by badness. So is there room
- 26:19Speaker 2: for Liam's redemption?
- 26:22Speaker 1: Yeah? See, that's what I think these movies might be
- 26:25Speaker 1: missing a little bit is context in terms of understanding
- 26:31Speaker 1: Liam and Finn. He's just supposed to be the bad
- 26:35Speaker 1: guy because he stole her away from Finn back in
- 26:38Speaker 1: the eighteen hundreds. I mean, that's all we That's all
- 26:42Speaker 1: we know, right, we don't know anything else, At least
- 26:46Speaker 1: I don't remember them touching that in movie one about
- 26:49Speaker 1: like bad things.
- 26:50Speaker 2: He did, they talk about his stealing. That's it as
- 26:54Speaker 2: far as I can tell.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Yes, okay, So like that gets a little murky to me.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Moving on, I have some more wishes. At the end
- 27:03Speaker 1: of this movie, we learn, and we've talked about it
- 27:06Speaker 1: that Cora is destined to change the world through her
- 27:08Speaker 1: charity work, right, but they haven't. It's too vague for me.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Like I hope in movie three, like they talk more
- 27:15Speaker 1: about it, because like I don't I care more about
- 27:18Speaker 1: like if she's gonna kiss Finn or Liam, yeah for sure,
- 27:24Speaker 1: versus what she's going to do to change the world,
- 27:26Speaker 1: Like give me some steaks, like let me know, like, oh,
- 27:31Speaker 1: into show me a peek into the future of what
- 27:37Speaker 1: she changed in the world, And if we don't get
- 27:41Speaker 1: these two together, like that is not going to happen,
- 27:44Speaker 1: you know, give.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Me Eliza Hamilton. I put myself back in the narrative.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Yes, here's how I spent the next fifty years of
- 27:49Speaker 1: my life exactly. That's exactly what I was thinking exactly,
- 27:54Speaker 1: Yes says yes. Two more wishes. One, why did Liam
- 27:59Speaker 1: spill everything to Susette so easily? I was like, Bro,
- 28:02Speaker 1: you're like nobody's gonna believe you. People are gonna think
- 28:07Speaker 1: you are unwell if you're like the Angels brought me here,
- 28:10Speaker 1: and I'm here to fix her destiny and whatever, Like
- 28:13Speaker 1: why is he telling her all of this?
- 28:15Speaker 2: That's a great question. I kind of loved that finally
- 28:19Speaker 2: we have someone who's in on it. He finally has
- 28:21Speaker 2: someone who knows what's going on, agree and can kind
- 28:26Speaker 2: of almost be an accomplice in a situation. I do
- 28:28Speaker 2: want to say when Eggon like quantum Leap snaps out
- 28:33Speaker 2: of the scene and Suste's like, what the heck man?
- 28:36Speaker 2: I loved it. It was just giving not Sam, but
- 28:41Speaker 2: whoever his invisible partner with the doot doote machine.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I can't think of who it is.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Anyway, it was giving quantum Leap vibes to me.
- 28:51Speaker 1: That is so funny. My final wish was, as I'm
- 28:55Speaker 1: taking notes here, I'm watching very closely because the whole
- 28:58Speaker 1: mystery part of it is kind of like secondary to
- 29:01Speaker 1: this story, right. But everyone is throwing up red flags.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Boy the shady Leo's sketchy chorus, Dad's hiding something. I
- 29:10Speaker 1: think they're all corrupt. Maybe I don't know, or maybe
- 29:13Speaker 1: it's like is it too obvious? I don't know. I
- 29:17Speaker 1: have absolutely no idea who the murderer is.
- 29:19Speaker 2: None whatsoever.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I don't know. I think these people all seem it
- 29:23Speaker 1: seems a little obvious to me. But like I I
- 29:26Speaker 1: hope it's not like I hope it's not Maddie Finocchio
- 29:30Speaker 1: as the bad guy here. No, can't be. But I
- 29:33Speaker 1: don't know's I mean? Obviously, when Liam gets the gets
- 29:39Speaker 1: the hit on Meredith being out at that cabin and
- 29:43Speaker 1: Boyd was going to arrange like a somebody to take
- 29:46Speaker 1: him up there, and then does it, and then they
- 29:48Speaker 1: get there, it's gone nice, nice, you know it is Boyd.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I don't know. Leo gives real bad vibes too. They
- 29:58Speaker 1: all do. They're all bad, dirty cops. Apparently.
- 30:02Speaker 2: That's another book movie difference. In the book, he has
- 30:06Speaker 2: a car. It's like a beater. It's not a nice car,
- 30:09Speaker 2: and he's annoyed by it. But he has a car.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Got it. That's all I have for wishes, it's time
- 30:14Speaker 1: for did you see that? I don't have any true
- 30:17Speaker 1: digit see that's I just have like little moments of
- 30:19Speaker 1: things that I liked.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Well, let's hear him.
- 30:24Speaker 1: We talked about at the top of the episode the
- 30:29Speaker 1: flashbacks for Ireland. Now, I like the flashbacks in this movie,
- 30:35Speaker 1: especially at the very end, when they're inner cutting the
- 30:38Speaker 1: scenes of like her past life falling to her death
- 30:41Speaker 1: and present day Korra being rescued from the water. I
- 30:43Speaker 1: thought that was beautifully done. I thought it was really
- 30:47Speaker 1: really good, and I thought it gave a lot of
- 30:48Speaker 1: weight to Liam's rescue of her, you know, because he
- 30:52Speaker 1: couldn't rescue her in the first yeah, and in their
- 30:56Speaker 1: first life together, but here he does. I thought that
- 30:59Speaker 1: was a really good When they're looking at the necklace
- 31:03Speaker 1: moment in the evidence room, like, first of all, like
- 31:06Speaker 1: why are you touching evidence? Like right? And she even
- 31:09Speaker 1: says like I shouldn't be touching this stuff. I was like,
- 31:11Speaker 1: what is happening? You guys are in a workplace and
- 31:14Speaker 1: then you have this like weirdly charged sexual moment. I'm like, no,
- 31:19Speaker 1: this is all bad, Like this is stop this stop
- 31:22Speaker 1: stop stop stop it. I want to just talk about
- 31:27Speaker 1: nil Mater again. I just love him as this like
- 31:31Speaker 1: charming yet sinister kind of character. I just love it.
- 31:35Speaker 1: He gives like this smirk when he's like confronted about
- 31:38Speaker 1: he knows exactly what he's doing here. I just loved
- 31:41Speaker 1: all of that. Love love lovelet And finally they had
- 31:47Speaker 1: some really good contemporary music in this episode. At the end,
- 31:52Speaker 1: they used this song Unsteady during that water rescue scene.
- 31:57Speaker 1: I thought that was really good. I felt it was
- 32:00Speaker 1: It was giving like c W, you know what I mean,
- 32:02Speaker 1: like in the best in the best way, like the
- 32:05Speaker 1: c W kind of shows that were so dramatic, totally
- 32:10Speaker 1: music back in the days when it was so good
- 32:13Speaker 1: like that. They also used the song You Are the
- 32:16Speaker 1: Reason by Calum Scott. I just loved it, loved it,
- 32:18Speaker 1: loved it, loved it. Are my did you see? That's
- 32:22Speaker 1: that's great? I just have one thing to add. Yes,
- 32:24Speaker 1: it's a it's a it's a maybe true. Did you
- 32:27Speaker 1: see that moment Samil and egg On are getting words
- 32:30Speaker 1: smells specifically, like the higher ups are aware they're Gabriel.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Gabriel. Uh they refer to Gabriel as they
- 32:42Speaker 2: is Gabriel non binary?
- 32:43Speaker 1: Is this sly?
- 32:45Speaker 2: Is this like oh sneaking in some mild representation?
- 32:49Speaker 1: I love that?
- 32:52Speaker 2: Didn't catch that the the the rep It's like a
- 32:55Speaker 2: whiff of representation, but I have grabbed onto it now.
- 33:00Speaker 2: My other thought was, perhaps Gabriel is simply the name
- 33:03Speaker 2: for this department and not the actual person. Oh, because
- 33:07Speaker 2: they don't show them. They just said like they've caught on,
- 33:10Speaker 2: they're aware, and they showed the door with Gabriel on it.
- 33:13Speaker 2: But that was my thoughts.
- 33:16Speaker 1: I like it. Well, Hey, what did you rate an
- 33:18Speaker 1: impossible promise? I'm sticking with four stars. I give it
- 33:22Speaker 1: four stars in the last movie, it's four stars in
- 33:24Speaker 1: this movie. I'm hoping movie three sticks the landing and
- 33:30Speaker 1: we get up there. But yeah, it's I think it's
- 33:32Speaker 1: a really good, good mini series.
- 33:34Speaker 2: I gave it four and a half stars. Look at you.
- 33:38Speaker 2: If you're listening to this episode and you are not
- 33:40Speaker 2: watching the movies, please do. I highly encourage you to.
- 33:43Speaker 2: I think it pays off. I think it's worth it.
- 33:45Speaker 2: I think it's I said it in the last episode.
