- 0:00Speaker 1: Someone who's like, do you know who I am?
- 0:02Speaker 2: And do you know who my dad is?
- 0:03Speaker 1: Yeah? And I'm like I don't. I don't, which is
- 0:06Speaker 1: the problem we're facing right now. And they're like, I'm
- 0:10Speaker 1: going to get you fired and I'm going to be like,
- 0:12Speaker 1: good luck.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hi, everyone, Welcome back to another episode of Clyde Confidential.
- 0:23Speaker 2: It is my great pleasure to introduce you to one
- 0:25Speaker 2: of my oldest and dearest friends, Frankie Krattini, who is
- 0:29Speaker 2: the director of Events and Client Relations at People's. People's
- 0:34Speaker 2: is an amazing bar slash.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I would say it's like a social club, an evening club.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Evening club, lounge, great vibe. Frankie is also kind of
- 0:44Speaker 2: the chief vibe officer, if you would say.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Right, yeah, I'm like the conductor, the conductor orchestrating a
- 0:52Speaker 1: great evening for all to be had.
- 0:54Speaker 2: You've orchestrated a lot of great evenings for me throughout
- 0:57Speaker 2: my life.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Is as recent as last Saturday?
- 1:00Speaker 2: That's right? Yeah?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Well wasn't that or was it Friday?
- 1:03Speaker 2: Friday?
- 1:03Speaker 1: It was Friday?
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and I'm coming back tonight. Yeah.
- 1:06Speaker 1: We were celebrating a very special person's birthday.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Yes, and she had a great time. Good, thank you.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Yeah, my pleasure.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Love when I say it's just two girls and then
- 1:15Speaker 2: I show up with fifteen people.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yeah, that's my favorite thing about you. I know, but
- 1:18Speaker 1: I also come to expect it because I've known you.
- 1:21Speaker 1: You're like, oh, yeah, it's just a few of us.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, expect twenty. Yeah, Well, thank you, my pleasure.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Okay, so Frankie, let's back up. I know that we've
- 1:29Speaker 2: had a friendship for many, many years, but I think
- 1:32Speaker 2: we should walk everyone through how we first met because
- 1:35Speaker 2: you were a big part of my twenties in New
- 1:38Speaker 2: York when I was first kind of starting off in
- 1:40Speaker 2: entertainment and I was quite young. And now we've were
- 1:45Speaker 2: here and we're older and we've come such a long
- 1:47Speaker 2: way together in New York City, so let's talk about it.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I know, I mean, it's kind of crazy where we
- 1:52Speaker 1: both are at this current moment in our careers, in
- 1:56Speaker 1: our friendship, and like how we both have sort of
- 1:59Speaker 1: a sended and continue to like challenge ourselves and push
- 2:03Speaker 1: ourselves and you know, want more for ourselves. It's kind
- 2:06Speaker 1: of crazy. Like, you know, we met when I was
- 2:10Speaker 1: moonlighting as a co check person and I you know,
- 2:15Speaker 1: you would come in and I was always very excited
- 2:17Speaker 1: to see you. You were always just like so much
- 2:19Speaker 1: fun and you had really beautiful energy. And I could
- 2:22Speaker 1: always count on you leaving your coat from the night
- 2:26Speaker 1: before and then having to like like walk of shamee
- 2:30Speaker 1: to come get it back. You're like, hey, I think
- 2:31Speaker 1: my coat is here, and I'd be like, it is
- 2:34Speaker 1: the the black Acne Studios leather jackoe with the redlining,
- 2:37Speaker 1: and you were like, yeah, that's mine.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Yeah, without fail, like every weekend. Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:44Speaker 1: In my life at the time was constantly in flux,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and you were the only constant.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah. I've come a long way. And when I left
- 2:54Speaker 2: New York a couple of years after, maybe two years
- 2:57Speaker 2: after we had initially met, and I moved to La
- 3:00Speaker 2: first time, and then I remember visiting New York and
- 3:03Speaker 2: I wanted to go out at Acme with my girlfriends,
- 3:05Speaker 2: and you and I had been in touch, but not
- 3:08Speaker 2: maybe that week or you know, leading up to my
- 3:11Speaker 2: trip back, and I remember walking up to the line
- 3:14Speaker 2: at Acme and I see you right at the door,
- 3:18Speaker 2: and I think to myself, oh, yeah, I'm about to
- 3:22Speaker 2: look really cool. Of the two but twenty people that
- 3:25Speaker 2: I was with, and of course we got right in
- 3:28Speaker 2: had the best night thanks to Frankie. But it all
- 3:31Speaker 2: started at the co check and now.
- 3:33Speaker 1: We're here, yeah, And I mean I ascended to door
- 3:37Speaker 1: quite quickly, and I don't think before me anyone had
- 3:41Speaker 1: done that kind of jump. And it wasn't even like
- 3:45Speaker 1: on purpose, like I wasn't doing it with intention. I
- 3:47Speaker 1: had a full time career working in fashion, and like
- 3:51Speaker 1: nightlife was just like kind of this fun thing. And
- 3:53Speaker 1: then I was like, oh, well, like co check sounds
- 3:56Speaker 1: kind of fun, like I get to be out, I
- 3:58Speaker 1: get to drink for free, to meet interesting people. And
- 4:01Speaker 1: then when the longtime doorman Patrick was leaving, you know,
- 4:06Speaker 1: he was telling me and I was really bummed, but
- 4:08Speaker 1: I asked him. I was like, do you think I
- 4:10Speaker 1: could do your job? And he was like, oh, you
- 4:13Speaker 1: have a background in pr you could do this job
- 4:16Speaker 1: very very well, all through your name in that. And
- 4:18Speaker 1: so then you know, again I was just moonlighting as
- 4:21Speaker 1: a door person, the most powerful door person at the
- 4:24Speaker 1: most iconic door in New York City. But still just
- 4:28Speaker 1: like it was a fun little side thing. And then
- 4:32Speaker 1: COVID happened and I was like, oh, well that's fun.
- 4:34Speaker 1: That was a fun little thing.
- 4:36Speaker 2: And fun little thing.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Nightclubs closed, and you know, we we there was so
- 4:41Speaker 1: much uncertainty, as you know, and when the world reopened,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I got a call being like, do you want to
- 4:48Speaker 1: do this full time? It's a little bit the role
- 4:51Speaker 1: we see for you is a little bit different because
- 4:53Speaker 1: we're working on a new project, which I think you'd
- 4:56Speaker 1: be a great fit for given your background in pr
- 5:00Speaker 1: doing the Nines. And that's kind of what happened, And
- 5:04Speaker 1: so I pivoted completely from a very traditional nine to
- 5:09Speaker 1: five office setting to a nine pm two three thirty
- 5:14Speaker 1: am on the street basically bullying people for a living,
- 5:20Speaker 1: telling people, telling people know, and getting paid for it.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Sounds pretty nice to me.
- 5:25Speaker 1: It was great, Like, I really do love my job, So.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Can we talk about how a lot of people, I
- 5:32Speaker 2: don't think realize how hard that job is. You're not
- 5:35Speaker 2: only sussing out the crowd, curating the crew, but you
- 5:39Speaker 2: are telling people know. And then you have all these
- 5:42Speaker 2: drunk kids coming up in line, probably being a little
- 5:45Speaker 2: bit of a bully back, and that's not fun and
- 5:48Speaker 2: that's really difficult to manage with a place like the
- 5:52Speaker 2: Nines or a place like people's it's it's a really
- 5:56Speaker 2: nice establishment and you kind of have to how do
- 5:59Speaker 2: you deal with that?
- 6:01Speaker 1: You know, it's it's interesting, it's it's a job that
- 6:04Speaker 1: isn't for everyone. You know. I always joke that, like,
- 6:09Speaker 1: there there's Frankie and then there's you know, Frankie the
- 6:13Speaker 1: door person, my alter ego, and it very much like
- 6:17Speaker 1: it is a character I'm playing, and with any character
- 6:19Speaker 1: that anyone plays, there's always going to be criticism. So
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's like, you know, people saying no isn't the easiest
- 6:26Speaker 1: thing for most people. I find it really easy. And
- 6:28Speaker 1: the best piece of advice that I got when I
- 6:30Speaker 1: was sort of like making the transition into this was
- 6:34Speaker 1: the first ten people that show up, tell them no,
- 6:37Speaker 1: no matter how amazing they look, how cool they are,
- 6:40Speaker 1: because it makes saying no later in the evening when
- 6:43Speaker 1: it is so insane easier. And it's also like, yeah,
- 6:49Speaker 1: you know, people are drunk and they tend to lose
- 6:54Speaker 1: all inhibitions and sense of self, and so people have
- 6:57Speaker 1: said crazy things to me.
- 6:59Speaker 2: What's the craziest thing that someone's ever said to you?
- 7:01Speaker 2: I'm actually really scared to ask this question.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I mean, like, I've had people say to me like, oh,
- 7:07Speaker 1: you're just a and I'm just like and I'm still
- 7:11Speaker 1: on this side of the rope, remember that. So I
- 7:14Speaker 1: always have a very quick sort of you know, come
- 7:19Speaker 1: back for anything anyone that's nasty.
- 7:22Speaker 2: But I also that's the nastiest thing you've ever said bad.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I mean, I've I've just torn people to shreds in
- 7:30Speaker 1: a very quick, concise manager manner. And it's typically like
- 7:36Speaker 1: someone who's like, do you know who I am?
- 7:38Speaker 2: And do you know who my dad is?
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah? And I'm like I don't. I don't, which is
- 7:43Speaker 1: the problem we're facing right now. And they're like, I'm
- 7:46Speaker 1: going to get you fired and I'm going to be
- 7:48Speaker 1: like good luck.
- 7:50Speaker 2: So there's been some articles about you in the press,
- 7:53Speaker 2: people calling you a dictator, New York's toughest bouncer. Yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 2: do you do you like people are.
- 8:00Speaker 1: A bit scared of you or you know, I mean,
- 8:03Speaker 1: like the scared thing is is that it's like, you know,
- 8:05Speaker 1: there there is power in that, so you know, people
- 8:08Speaker 1: are going to want to be on their best behavior.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Like I'm not a door person and like or just
- 8:14Speaker 1: a door person, Like I am a person, I have
- 8:16Speaker 1: expectations and I expect you to conduct yourself in my
- 8:21Speaker 1: presence and in the presence of my servers, my bar backs,
- 8:25Speaker 1: my bartenders, my entire team, with the same level of
- 8:28Speaker 1: respect that I demand. So really, I think that I'm
- 8:34Speaker 1: you know, teaching people that you know how to treat others, of.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Course, and that every relationship matters, from the person at
- 8:44Speaker 2: the co check to the person at.
- 8:45Speaker 1: The door, because you and you never know where they're
- 8:48Speaker 1: going to be in two or three years. You know,
- 8:51Speaker 1: when I made the jump from co check to door,
- 8:55Speaker 1: I kept a mental note of every person who never
- 8:59Speaker 1: tipped me in co check and guess what, I made
- 9:04Speaker 1: them all pay for it, and.
- 9:06Speaker 2: They're probably asked from people today.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Correct, you know, I keep for the sane mental note
- 9:12Speaker 1: of like behavior like oh you don't tip, great, fuck off?
- 9:17Speaker 1: Oh you treat people like they're beneath you. Guess what
- 9:22Speaker 1: common ground is that way?
- 9:25Speaker 2: You know?
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yeah, And so I mean back to like, I am
- 9:30Speaker 1: very comfortable with being the villain in this story because
- 9:33Speaker 1: I what I am. So I always say I protect
- 9:37Speaker 1: the crown, and you know the crown being nightlife. And
- 9:41Speaker 1: you know nightlife is is a place for you know
- 9:45Speaker 1: New Yorkers. It's our living room. You know, our apartments
- 9:48Speaker 1: are very small. We don't have the luxury of space
- 9:50Speaker 1: like they do in LA So there's like no entertaining.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Deals are made in nightclubs. Love for life is made
- 9:56Speaker 1: in nightclubs. Love for the night is made in nightclubs.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Best friends are forged. I mean, look at us. You know,
- 10:01Speaker 1: we met in a nightclub, and so you know, I
- 10:04Speaker 1: want the best possible mix of people at any time,
- 10:08Speaker 1: who you know. The diversity counterpart is very sort of
- 10:15Speaker 1: broad term because it's people from all walks of life
- 10:19Speaker 1: who are outside of people's would not be in the
- 10:23Speaker 1: same room with each other.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And how do you look at a crowd and carrate
- 10:28Speaker 2: a crowd on the weekends? And what is it? Yes
- 10:32Speaker 2: to you if you let's say you don't know the
- 10:33Speaker 2: person and they march, Because from my understanding, you can't
- 10:36Speaker 2: get into people's unless you either know you em Itt
- 10:40Speaker 2: or Margo. Let's give a shout out.
- 10:41Speaker 1: To Margo and Cassie.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and Cassie exactly, well, I know from the nine
- 10:46Speaker 2: exactly yeah. Yeah, So unless you know one of you four,
- 10:49Speaker 2: you're not getting in, right.
- 10:51Speaker 1: No, I mean, like it's very rare that we have
- 10:54Speaker 1: any sort of walk in space because I'm always expecting
- 10:58Speaker 1: our people. You know, in between Ian, Cassie, Margot Emmett
- 11:01Speaker 1: and I. You know, that list has grown. You know,
- 11:04Speaker 1: Cassie was at the Nines and act me for ten years.
- 11:07Speaker 1: She opened at me and she was the one person
- 11:10Speaker 1: who really was in my corner for me to jump
- 11:13Speaker 1: from co check to door. And so you know, if
- 11:17Speaker 1: in the event that I do have some sort of
- 11:19Speaker 1: space where I'm lacking a certain type of person in
- 11:25Speaker 1: the space, you know, it typically presents itself because I'm
- 11:28Speaker 1: pretty good at manifesting that. But like, what I'm looking
- 11:32Speaker 1: for is someone who goes against the grain, Like I
- 11:35Speaker 1: don't like people who are affect simile of each other.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I also have a sixth sense for how people. Typically
- 11:43Speaker 1: when people walk up, I can instantly know if it's
- 11:46Speaker 1: a yes or a no. And when I say no,
- 11:50Speaker 1: I always say to my head of security, you know,
- 11:53Speaker 1: dub them Jay and yeah sweet J love J. And
- 11:57Speaker 1: you know, I'm like the watch and he'll be like,
- 12:00Speaker 1: you know, the doorman has said that he can accommodate
- 12:03Speaker 1: each night, and they freak out. Yeah, They're like, fuck you,
- 12:07Speaker 1: We're never coming back here. And I'm like, Okay, no problem,
- 12:11Speaker 1: And it's that kind of like example of behavior that
- 12:15Speaker 1: they're exhibiting at the door means that they're probably going
- 12:19Speaker 1: to do the same thing on the inside.
- 12:22Speaker 2: And you know what, I think what you and I
- 12:24Speaker 2: do is super similar. We both deal with people. We're
- 12:27Speaker 2: very good at with people ourselves. What I do is
- 12:30Speaker 2: I recruit, I give people jobs. I interview them, I
- 12:33Speaker 2: suss out them personally professionally, but really personally first, because
- 12:38Speaker 2: I think that giving someone an assistant, if you guys
- 12:42Speaker 2: understand each other personally professionally, it will be super easy.
- 12:46Speaker 2: But I at this stage, I hop on the phone
- 12:48Speaker 2: or a zoom with a candidate and I know very
- 12:51Speaker 2: quickly whether it's going to be a yes or a
- 12:53Speaker 2: no for me. And also having done this job myself, obviously,
- 12:57Speaker 2: I know if someone's going to last a day, a
- 13:01Speaker 2: couple of days, a couple of weeks, a couple of
- 13:03Speaker 2: years in any given job that I have available. So
- 13:07Speaker 2: I think what we do is actually well very similar
- 13:12Speaker 2: to teams and curating rooms.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And but also thinking about how different personalities are going
- 13:17Speaker 1: to mesh with each other. Yeah, you know, like you
- 13:22Speaker 1: deal in an industry much like mine that is extremely
- 13:24Speaker 1: high stakes and extremely high pressure, and there's such a
- 13:29Speaker 1: like a physical touch about it that requires people. You know,
- 13:36Speaker 1: you all have to work and sync and you always
- 13:39Speaker 1: have to be prepared for the worst. And it's not
- 13:43Speaker 1: like in a negative way. It's just if things go south,
- 13:48Speaker 1: we're prepared and we can pivot easily. And that requires
- 13:51Speaker 1: organization and synchronization and just always being able to sort
- 13:58Speaker 1: of change direction because people want to do something completely different.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I also think that let's say there's someone who's being
- 14:08Speaker 2: rowdy in the line for people's or the nines, I
- 14:12Speaker 2: don't want that person part of our candidate pool. I
- 14:14Speaker 2: think that the way you step out into the world
- 14:17Speaker 2: after your workday is done, that is a big reflection
- 14:20Speaker 2: of you generally and as a whole. So if someone
- 14:24Speaker 2: is being disrespectful to staff, that is the number one
- 14:28Speaker 2: worst quality in my eyes. And if they are trying
- 14:32Speaker 2: to get in somewhere and you say no and turn
- 14:34Speaker 2: them down, their reaction is very telling of them as
- 14:36Speaker 2: a person. And I just think the lesson is be
- 14:40Speaker 2: kind to everyone you come across, across all industries, different positions,
- 14:45Speaker 2: because you never know where someone's going to end up
- 14:47Speaker 2: and people who treat staff and hospitality staff poorly or
- 14:54Speaker 2: don't tip. Those are bad people. Those are really bad people.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Agreed the you know you. I brought up an interesting
- 15:02Speaker 1: point about like people in the line. You know, I'm
- 15:05Speaker 1: not only looking at what's in front of me directly,
- 15:10Speaker 1: I'm looking in the background. And really, I always say
- 15:13Speaker 1: that the people get the most my most attention is
- 15:15Speaker 1: because if you are screaming my name or flailing your
- 15:18Speaker 1: arms or what have you, it's much easier for me
- 15:22Speaker 1: to focus on someone who's extremely still. I always use
- 15:26Speaker 1: Alexander Scarsgard as an example. He is so tall and
- 15:30Speaker 1: so handsome, but when he shows up, he also is
- 15:34Speaker 1: a darling, most polite vampire I've ever met, and is
- 15:39Speaker 1: charismatic and sweet and wonderful. But he just shows up
- 15:44Speaker 1: and he just stands there quietly, and I just reach
- 15:47Speaker 1: out and grab him in. But like I'm looking at
- 15:50Speaker 1: people who are in the line, I'm looking at people
- 15:53Speaker 1: who are in front, I'm looking at people who are
- 15:55Speaker 1: in back, like how are you behaving? Because if you're
- 15:58Speaker 1: behaving this way outside the club, Dear God, what's going
- 16:03Speaker 1: to happen if I let you in?
- 16:04Speaker 2: It's a really good point.
- 16:06Speaker 1: And I always say, like people, you know, I'm always watching,
- 16:11Speaker 1: And it's like kind of when you think about it, it's
- 16:14Speaker 1: very harrowing, like I'm always watching. I'll walk down the
- 16:18Speaker 1: street or I'll be sitting in a restaurant in a
- 16:20Speaker 1: corner where I am hidden, but I see what everyone
- 16:23Speaker 1: else is doing.
- 16:23Speaker 2: You see all of the New York West Village girlies
- 16:27Speaker 2: out in trying to get in on the again.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Like I also, you know, I get so many emails
- 16:32Speaker 1: and I scrape the internet, like I can't have someone
- 16:35Speaker 1: who is any sort of liability, you know, in a
- 16:39Speaker 1: way that hurts people.
- 16:42Speaker 2: I'm curious about this, so on Rezi, or if you're
- 16:47Speaker 2: cold emailing a restaurant in New York, is there a
- 16:51Speaker 2: committee who reviews those emails? If I, let's say I
- 16:55Speaker 2: email via Karota and I say, I also love I
- 17:00Speaker 2: love everyone at via Croda. Yeah, I'm going to give them.
- 17:02Speaker 2: They're a wonderful team. But let's say I didn't have
- 17:04Speaker 2: a relationship with them, and I emailed the chow at
- 17:08Speaker 2: via Croda email. I'm curious if there is a committee
- 17:13Speaker 2: of folks in that restaurant group who review all the
- 17:16Speaker 2: requests that come in is that what you.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Guys me there is Typically people's is a little different
- 17:21Speaker 1: because priority is always to the friends of the house,
- 17:24Speaker 1: and then you know there's people that filter through the
- 17:28Speaker 1: rest of them and then kind of they're like, do
- 17:30Speaker 1: you know this person? And I'm like, yes, you can
- 17:33Speaker 1: book them a reservation. But really a lot of people
- 17:36Speaker 1: are reaching out directly to Margot, Emmett, Cassie and I
- 17:39Speaker 1: and that's how they get in.
- 17:41Speaker 2: You know.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Again with that relationship, the Nines was different. You know,
- 17:46Speaker 1: I will say like it was friend of John's, it
- 17:49Speaker 1: was a friend of mine's, it was Titans of Industry.
- 17:52Speaker 1: The most powerful thing is that we look through is
- 17:59Speaker 1: what your email is. Wow, So like you know, if
- 18:03Speaker 1: you are emailing us from a Gucci email, there's a
- 18:07Speaker 1: high probability we're gonna reply. I mean, I also do
- 18:10Speaker 1: look at your job title.
- 18:12Speaker 2: So he clicks on those LinkedIn?
- 18:14Speaker 1: I sure do.
- 18:16Speaker 2: And what about social media? Do you check Instagram?
- 18:19Speaker 1: I check Instagram's you know piece, So we do do.
- 18:21Speaker 2: The same thing. Che I check socials, I check your LinkedIn.
- 18:26Speaker 2: If there's a photo, we ask everyone to submit a
- 18:29Speaker 2: photo with their resume, because not because I'm judging in
- 18:34Speaker 2: not because I'm judging. I am judging, but I'm judging
- 18:38Speaker 2: in a way that you don't think. I'm judging what
- 18:41Speaker 2: you think is professional versus what I think is professional.
- 18:44Speaker 2: So if a candidate sends me a photo of them
- 18:47Speaker 2: in a crop top, we're holding a beverage that is.
- 18:50Speaker 1: A red Solo cup, a.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Red Solo cup, a wineglass. That is not a photo
- 18:55Speaker 2: that you want to attach to your resume before I
- 18:58Speaker 2: send it to your maybe future employe one hundred So
- 19:01Speaker 2: that is that is a big, big, big thing for me,
- 19:03Speaker 2: And that's why I always check instagrams. If there's an
- 19:07Speaker 2: assistant on Instagram, you know, in her bikini with her
- 19:10Speaker 2: butt out, I'm like, I'm probably not going to put
- 19:13Speaker 2: you up for this.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Really corporate job one hundred percent. So I mean like
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm all about the private Instagram, which kind of intrigues me.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I have a public Instagram, but it's like very kind
- 19:23Speaker 1: of brand focused. But I yeah, I look through people's instagrams.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I look through their tiktoks, And the big thing about
- 19:30Speaker 1: people's is like in this you know, heavily documented culture
- 19:34Speaker 1: that we live in where everyone has a cell phone
- 19:37Speaker 1: and everyone feels like, you know, they're entitled to their opinion,
- 19:40Speaker 1: which they are, but maybe not entitled to post it
- 19:43Speaker 1: on the internet. You know, people's is about influential people,
- 19:48Speaker 1: people who are contributing to society in a manner that
- 19:52Speaker 1: is is we're going to look back on in a
- 19:54Speaker 1: very fond way. You know, it's not influencer culture. You know,
- 19:58Speaker 1: there are plenty of place in the West Village that
- 20:01Speaker 1: pander to that demographic and that is fine, but it's like,
- 20:06Speaker 1: you know, how are you contributing to arts and culture?
- 20:09Speaker 1: That is what we care about, and so you know,
- 20:12Speaker 1: people are like I you know, I'm I'm an influencer.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I have two hundred thousand followers on TikTok, and I'm
- 20:17Speaker 1: just like, okay, well, this isn't the place for you
- 20:19Speaker 1: because we don't allow photos inside. Like our whole thing
- 20:22Speaker 1: is human to human connection and meeting people irl, getting
- 20:27Speaker 1: off your phone and you know, meeting someone interesting, connecting
- 20:33Speaker 1: with the people around you.
- 20:34Speaker 2: And do you think that's changed or you're the you know,
- 20:39Speaker 2: the stuff that you guys are trying to protect. Has
- 20:42Speaker 2: that Do you think you would have felt the same
- 20:45Speaker 2: way pre pandemic? Or is this post pandemic? The rise
- 20:50Speaker 2: of more intimate spaces and people not being on their
- 20:56Speaker 2: phones and sort of these members clubs pop up in
- 21:00Speaker 2: New York. Do you think you would have felt the
- 21:01Speaker 2: same way about the environment pre pandemic? I guess so.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I mean People's was born out of the idea of,
- 21:09Speaker 1: like the partner's love for pre social media nightlife. You know,
- 21:14Speaker 1: we our phone would die, who cares? We had a
- 21:16Speaker 1: point and shoot, and so we have all these like
- 21:19Speaker 1: photos on film, and you know we we had to
- 21:25Speaker 1: love that.
- 21:25Speaker 2: You guys do that.
- 21:26Speaker 1: It's cute.
- 21:27Speaker 2: I made it into the People's story.
- 21:29Speaker 1: She did. She did?
- 21:30Speaker 2: And tube top and I look naked.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I can't tell. All I can see is your smile.
- 21:36Speaker 2: I was smiling. You know.
- 21:39Speaker 1: So, like pre social media nightlife was so special because
- 21:42Speaker 1: we were just connecting with people who were in the
- 21:44Speaker 1: same place as us, both physically and professionally, and you know,
- 21:49Speaker 1: we all got to just kind of trauma bond. You know,
- 21:52Speaker 1: we all worked really hard jobs and and you know
- 21:55Speaker 1: nightlife was our sort of our source of release. And
- 22:00Speaker 1: so you know, post pandemic, you know, with the advent
- 22:03Speaker 1: of TikTok happening during the pandemic, you know, I saw
- 22:08Speaker 1: as a way to leverage that to when night clubs reopened,
- 22:13Speaker 1: and it had its purpose to revitalize acme. You know,
- 22:17Speaker 1: now I want, I really want people to connect even further,
- 22:24Speaker 1: you know, and forge relationships and you know, have a wonderful,
- 22:29Speaker 1: messy night that they have no documents of, just a story.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Are people allowed to be on their phones and
- 22:37Speaker 2: people's or is it not really a you.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Can be on your phone but like I was not
- 22:42Speaker 1: there right?
- 22:43Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 22:43Speaker 1: No, people are really quite present, which I love. We
- 22:46Speaker 1: also are very stringent, like if we see you about
- 22:48Speaker 1: to take a photo, we're like, no, no, pecks, got it.
- 22:54Speaker 1: We want people to have an emotional response when they
- 22:56Speaker 1: first arrived, which is this, wow, I have no idea
- 23:00Speaker 1: what to expect. I'm like nervous, but I'm excited. And
- 23:04Speaker 1: then they come up and they're like, this is so
- 23:06Speaker 1: beautiful and I want to take this in and I
- 23:08Speaker 1: can't take this in if I'm sitting on my phone.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I That's exactly how I feel about tonight. By the way,
- 23:15Speaker 2: people's is having a back to school prior tonight to me,
- 23:18Speaker 2: and the gals are getting dinner at Cheche's and then
- 23:20Speaker 2: which is right next door, and then we're gonna.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I love it over there. Perfect, there's a lot.
- 23:26Speaker 2: We'll talk about it after this.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Okay, great, That's exactly.
- 23:29Speaker 2: How I feel about tonight. And I don't know what
- 23:30Speaker 2: to expect, and I love going in there because I
- 23:34Speaker 2: really do think you do such a good job at
- 23:36Speaker 2: curating the you know, the vibe, and I always do
- 23:40Speaker 2: run into someone who I haven't seen in a while.
- 23:42Speaker 2: And it's just being in your thirties in New York
- 23:46Speaker 2: versus being in your twenties. You're going out options to
- 23:49Speaker 2: shrink right, Yes, with the rise of members clubs, like
- 23:52Speaker 2: we said before, And although I love, I used to
- 23:55Speaker 2: love being in the ACME basement, I am way too
- 23:57Speaker 2: old for that now. And my interns go there, I
- 24:00Speaker 2: am not going I miss it well, but.
- 24:03Speaker 1: It's I'm not going to We have peoples in. What
- 24:05Speaker 1: we tried to build or have built, is that you
- 24:09Speaker 1: can show up alone and even if you don't know
- 24:13Speaker 1: a single soul, which is so unlikely, you'll know the bartenders,
- 24:18Speaker 1: you'll know the servers, you'll know Me, you'll know Alexandra,
- 24:22Speaker 1: and there will be you'll know Cassie or Marco, and
- 24:24Speaker 1: there will be someone there or maybe you make a
- 24:27Speaker 1: new friend.
- 24:28Speaker 2: I feel like I have made new friends there. But
- 24:31Speaker 2: back to the no phone thing. I went to a
- 24:33Speaker 2: wedding that was no phones and it was the best
- 24:36Speaker 2: wedding I've been to because everyone was present, everyone was
- 24:40Speaker 2: bonding and talking and not scrolling Instagram and really hanging
- 24:45Speaker 2: out and I was having really meaningful conversations with people
- 24:49Speaker 2: and just connecting. And that is just something I miss
- 24:52Speaker 2: about growing up. But thank god I didn't grow up
- 24:55Speaker 2: with Instagram. But being in middle school and having a
- 24:58Speaker 2: digital camera and then up it to picture trail and
- 25:01Speaker 2: you know, you wake up in college. There's a Facebook
- 25:04Speaker 2: album out there was something.
- 25:05Speaker 1: So yeah with some like ratchet title.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Yeah, there's something so pure about it.
- 25:12Speaker 1: It's also like, you know, not to get intoto like
- 25:15Speaker 1: you know, human psychology and whatnot. Like we're we have
- 25:19Speaker 1: godlike technology, we do not have the emotional or physical
- 25:22Speaker 1: bandwidth to actually wield it. And we are living in
- 25:26Speaker 1: the digital information age. But at our core human's crave
- 25:31Speaker 1: one thing connection, human to human connection.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Hell yeah, so, Frankie, I think people will be dying
- 25:40Speaker 2: to know who is the number one celeb who you've
- 25:43Speaker 2: interacted with at any of the places you've worked in
- 25:46Speaker 2: New York.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Okay, so there's kind of a couple. Yeah, the class Okay,
- 25:52Speaker 1: so you know at the Nines. Oh, she's incredible.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I love her.
- 25:57Speaker 1: She's so so sweet.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I've seen him in People's Yeah.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, he loves for me. Yeah. I also
- 26:06Speaker 1: like want him to just record me a lullaby and
- 26:08Speaker 1: lull me to sleep every night.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Let's manifest that for you. I will.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Who I would want. I want Kate Moss.
- 26:15Speaker 2: And I didn't I give you a Kate Moss frame
- 26:17Speaker 2: for your birthaty We did.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I have it hanging in my apartment. Honestly. Like,
- 26:21Speaker 1: people come through all the time, so it's just always
- 26:23Speaker 1: very exciting and they're just they're treated like every other
- 26:27Speaker 1: guest like and I want them to have a refuge
- 26:30Speaker 1: where they can feel for two hours of their life
- 26:35Speaker 1: like a regular person, where they can have some drinks,
- 26:39Speaker 1: eat some caviar and some French fries, get a little
- 26:41Speaker 1: drunk that caviar.
- 26:43Speaker 2: I was in at People's recently, that caviar potato bite
- 26:48Speaker 2: whatever is on the menu, potato.
- 26:51Speaker 1: With caviar and lemon crum fresh.
- 26:53Speaker 2: That was my dinner one night and it was really good.
- 26:56Speaker 2: I know.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I every time we make them, I stay to the kitchen.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, I need like twelve of these.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Yeah they were really good.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Yeah I mean cookie because.
- 27:03Speaker 2: My friends and I had uh we shared the cookie together.
- 27:06Speaker 1: It was really the cookie slap.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it does slap. I'm a big chocolate chip cookie.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Gal, me too. And I'm a chocolate chip cookie snop.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Yeah, me too. Like what's your favorite cookie in New York?
- 27:16Speaker 1: Probably the People's Cookie. Yeah, Like it's just like it's
- 27:20Speaker 1: it's a little toffee, it's a little chocolate, it's a
- 27:22Speaker 1: little crispy, it's a little good week and chewy d
- 27:25Speaker 1: and then like the sweet cream we serve with it.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I'm gonna order a cookie when I go tonight.
- 27:30Speaker 1: And a caviar potato pove.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I think. So that's dinner, girl, dinner.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Oh god, I hate myself. Okay, So your evolution is
- 27:43Speaker 2: so cool, truly, I think you you really you did
- 27:48Speaker 2: this all on your own. You weren't your dad wasn't
- 27:52Speaker 2: someone you know in hospitality? Now there was? Your mother was,
- 27:55Speaker 2: Oh he was.
- 27:56Speaker 1: My dad was, but he retired twenty years ago.
- 27:59Speaker 2: You did this on your own, Yes, Like this your
- 28:01Speaker 2: careers is to know no one else's credit besides Frankie.
- 28:05Speaker 2: And I think there's so many people who are younger
- 28:08Speaker 2: than us, who are in college or in these hospitality
- 28:13Speaker 2: programs at university, who graduate and ask themselves, Okay, how
- 28:18Speaker 2: do I go do that job eventually? And how do
- 28:20Speaker 2: I have a similar path as Frankie? And how do
- 28:24Speaker 2: I make it? What advice would you give someone who's
- 28:28Speaker 2: younger who's trying to make it in the hospitality industry,
- 28:32Speaker 2: because it's a tough.
- 28:33Speaker 1: One, it is. I mean, you know, as you know,
- 28:35Speaker 1: we're all notoriously overworked and chorice the underpaid, you know,
- 28:40Speaker 1: but a you have to want it. I weirdly didn't
- 28:44Speaker 1: want it. I literally was just like, Yeah, this is
- 28:46Speaker 1: a fun thing to do until I go back to
- 28:49Speaker 1: the office and then like started having a really good time.
- 28:53Speaker 1: So you have to love it, like you have to care,
- 28:55Speaker 1: but you also have to endure. And you know, there
- 29:00Speaker 1: are times where it just it is so bad and
- 29:03Speaker 1: you never think it's going to be great, but that's
- 29:05Speaker 1: just not how the world works. And if you continue
- 29:08Speaker 1: to push and push and push, you will eventually get
- 29:11Speaker 1: where you want to be, you know. And if you
- 29:13Speaker 1: want something, you have to be willing to do anything
- 29:18Speaker 1: to get it. And I really fought tooth and nail
- 29:23Speaker 1: to be the door person the first time, got people
- 29:26Speaker 1: in my corner, you know, align myself with the right people.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Who go these amazing relationships.
- 29:31Speaker 1: It's all about relationships at the end of the day.
- 29:33Speaker 1: It's relationships, you know. So make those relationships and don't
- 29:38Speaker 1: be afraid. Don't count someone out because maybe they're not
- 29:41Speaker 1: at the point in your in their careers, but to
- 29:46Speaker 1: get you somewhere. But eventually we all help each other.
- 29:48Speaker 1: I mean, Megan, you help me all the time, I
- 29:50Speaker 1: help you all the time. And really develop the relationships
- 29:54Speaker 1: is what matter, you know.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Don't be afraid I've got your back.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Yeah, don't be afraid to do something for free. Obviously
- 30:01Speaker 1: you get to a point where it's just like you
- 30:03Speaker 1: can't do it for free. But you know, don't be
- 30:06Speaker 1: afraid to throw a favor out here and there and
- 30:08Speaker 1: people will give it back to you.
- 30:10Speaker 2: That's the thing I think I gave. I spoke to
- 30:14Speaker 2: kids at Harvard the other day and they were asking me,
- 30:17Speaker 2: what's the best piece of advice that you've gotten, and
- 30:19Speaker 2: the best piece of advice that you'd give us. And
- 30:21Speaker 2: I said, be generous with your favors because you're never
- 30:25Speaker 2: going to regret being kind or doing a favor because
- 30:28Speaker 2: it's easy for you to do. There's so many times
- 30:30Speaker 2: where people ask me for favors and I don't necessarily
- 30:33Speaker 2: need something in return, but then it comes back months
- 30:36Speaker 2: later when maybe I'm in a pinch or they remember
- 30:39Speaker 2: how kind I was and they helped me out with something,
- 30:43Speaker 2: And I'm never doing favors because I'm expecting something in
- 30:46Speaker 2: return in that moment, but really because it's good karma.
- 30:50Speaker 1: It's good karma. It's good to be it's nice to
- 30:52Speaker 1: be nice.
- 30:52Speaker 2: It's nice to be nice. And I think being a
- 30:55Speaker 2: connector to and just introducing people, and you know, friends,
- 30:59Speaker 2: I'm so big on friends of friends, say, my whole group,
- 31:02Speaker 2: I think in New York for the most part in
- 31:04Speaker 2: LA is friends of friends. I'm best friends with someone
- 31:10Speaker 2: who I met through one of my friends from college
- 31:12Speaker 2: who I'm really not that tight with anymore. I love her,
- 31:15Speaker 2: but we just sort of lost touch and now me
- 31:17Speaker 2: and this other girl are I'm going to her daughter's
- 31:20Speaker 2: christening on Saturday. You know, just meeting people like that
- 31:23Speaker 2: is always so fun.
- 31:24Speaker 1: The other piece of advice I would give is that, like,
- 31:27Speaker 1: you know, when I was at acting in the Nines,
- 31:29Speaker 1: like there was kind of like no one took funnel
- 31:33Speaker 1: things and then distribute them in a meaningful, impactful, streamlined way.
- 31:40Speaker 1: And that to me was a it was a void
- 31:45Speaker 1: and a need. Yeah, you know, and it would make
- 31:48Speaker 1: things run so smoothly. And so I recognized this weakness,
- 31:52Speaker 1: plugged the league and made it my own and was
- 31:56Speaker 1: noticed for it.
- 31:59Speaker 2: And that's it. Yeah, your kindness was noticed. Your relationships,
- 32:02Speaker 2: the power of your relationships was noticed, and no one
- 32:06Speaker 2: else could do it but you. So here we are.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Also, I'm just on the note of connecting and plugging people.
- 32:14Speaker 2: He's single and he doesn't need a man. But you're
- 32:19Speaker 2: a hard person to set up. You're not a hard
- 32:21Speaker 2: person to set up. But I want you to have
- 32:23Speaker 2: the best of the best. And if anyone who's listening
- 32:26Speaker 2: or watching wants to come on a date with Frankie,
- 32:28Speaker 2: hit me up.
- 32:29Speaker 1: I'll give you a shot.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Slide into his DMS at The Boy about Town.
- 32:33Speaker 1: The Boy about Town.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Yeah, great, great account, great.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Follow yeah yeah yeah, it's got my New Yorker profile illustration.
- 32:41Speaker 2: There's a lot of good reads about Frankie out there. Well,
- 32:44Speaker 2: thank you guys so much. Please follow along for more
- 32:47Speaker 2: episodes at Clyde Confidential on Instagram. Many more fun, fun
- 32:52Speaker 2: segments like this to come. And I'm so happy that
- 32:54Speaker 2: I got to see Frankie while I'm in town.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Thank you for having me, Thank you.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Sorry the dogs aren't here.
- 32:59Speaker 1: It's okay. See tonight.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I will see you tonight.
- 33:02Speaker 1: And maybe I'll see in La and get to see
- 33:03Speaker 1: the dogs there.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Come to La. Perfect Summer will be done with her
- 33:06Speaker 2: training camp. By the time you come to La, she'll
- 33:08Speaker 2: see Perfect.
- 33:09Speaker 1: I can't wait.
