- 0:16Welcome to PCR Sports. Good evening, and welcome to PCR
- 0:20Sports here on PCR FM for the start of your sporting weekend.
- 0:24I'm Neelesh, and as always on the show every Friday between
- 0:276:00 and 7:00 we'll be discussing.
- 0:30Discussing at the latest local sport in our fair city, our
- 0:34guest this evening is Aaron Morrell, organizer of the Great
- 0:38Eastern Run from good running events and Aaron's making his
- 0:42second or third appearance on the show. 3rd appearance, isn't
- 0:46it? Yeah.
- 0:47Welcome back Aaron. Thank you.
- 0:48And we'll be chatting to Aaron very shortly about the
- 0:52excitement announcements that were made literally just 24
- 0:55hours ago. And developments in the Great
- 0:57Eastern Run and we'll be looking ahead to this year's event which
- 1:00is on the 15th of October. But first, let's have a chat
- 1:04with Dipham and cover off those weekly sporting headlines.
- 1:08Thank you Nilesh and good evening Peterborough and here
- 1:11are your headlines for the region for this evening or this
- 1:14week. Starting with the cricket, Peter
- 1:16Town continue their fine form in the T 1020 Championship with a
- 1:1912 run win over Findon and an eighth wicket victory over
- 1:23Desborough Town. And or equal Peterborough's form
- 1:25after beating Gettington by 4 wickets and Briggs Stock by 5
- 1:29wickets. Both clubs are on maximum points
- 1:31with and or edging it to the top spot on net run rate.
- 1:34This Saturday's T20 fixtures for Peterborough and and will see
- 1:36them both play Kingsbury, Temperance and Old
- 1:39Northamptonians. The finals of the T 20s are at
- 1:42Breton Gate next week in the LINKS Premier Division.
- 1:46Excuse me, in the LINKS Premier Division the World Champions
- 1:49Born won at Nettleham by 100 and two runs while Spalding beat
- 1:51Grimsby Town by 7 wickets. Market Deeping did not play and
- 1:55this weekend's fixtures he's born host Excuse me.
- 2:01You're right, I'm right. I think we've got English for a
- 2:04few moments now again while he just gathers himself.
- 2:08Yeah, Market Deeping did not play last weekend, but yeah,
- 2:11this weekend it's the Lincoln, The A 15 Derby as we call it.
- 2:15Born will be hosting Market Deeping in the big match and
- 2:18Spalding will be travelling and making the long trip up to the
- 2:22northeast of the county. Of Lincolnshire to Scunthorpe
- 2:25town in Speedway and it's Peterborough Panthers fixture at
- 2:29Sheffield was abandoned after 10 heats due to bad weather with
- 2:33the score at 3723 in Sheffield's favour.
- 2:37Under the competition rules and Regulations the results still
- 2:40stands and Panthers boss Robline had had no complaints as he said
- 2:44it was the right decision. The misery was piled on last
- 2:47night as Panthers crashed to a heavy 5733 defeat at Leicester
- 2:52and next week the City side travelled to King's Lynn on
- 2:54Monday evening before hosting Sheffield on Thursday off the
- 2:58track, Carl Johnson, the club's copromoter and former guest.
- 3:02Of this show has quit his role saying that a lack of support
- 3:06and enthusiasm is draining away his love of Speedway, he stated.
- 3:10I will however, be pushing forward with plans for the
- 3:13future with two potential sites for relocation in canoeing.
- 3:18Proteus Canoe Canoe Club took nine first places at the Alton
- 3:22Mere Course in in an 11 team event for Division Three and
- 3:25four clubs last weekend. It was the first national
- 3:28ranking tournament to feature Stand Up Paddle boarding, which
- 3:31Alan Storr won for the home team.
- 3:36Thank you. Apologies to everyone listening
- 3:39after put up my coughing there for a moment, but yeah,
- 3:42continuing with the headlines with football, Petri United
- 3:45agreed a deal to sell Christie Pim to Mansfield Town this week.
- 3:49PIM who fell out of favor after falling out with manager Darren
- 3:51Ferguson during his previous spell.
- 3:53Has been exiled from the squad ever since. 1 goalkeeper who's
- 3:56firmly staying put at Posh is Will Blackmore after he agreed a
- 3:59new three-year contract with the club. 1 backroom departure this
- 4:03week of Danny Walker, the Posh Under 21 manager who has joined
- 4:06Leicester City to join up with manager Enzo Meresca's new
- 4:09coaching team. Posh's preseason program now
- 4:12includes a friendly against Bedford Town.
- 4:14The match will take place on the 25th of July at the Irie.
- 4:17The preseason matches begin tomorrow with a friendly at
- 4:19Stanford followed by a home match against Colchester on the
- 4:2222nd of July, the aforementioned Bedford match and then a home
- 4:26match against Birmingham City on the 29th.
- 4:28There are also 2 closed door friendlies taking place during
- 4:31Posh's training camp at Saint George's Park, but the opponents
- 4:34have not been made public. Darren Ferguson hosted a near 3
- 4:37hour Twitter space session with over 2, two and a half thousand
- 4:40participants last night. The main takeaways from the
- 4:43conversation where the Posh are still in the hunt for.
- 4:45Another goalkeeper, 2 full backs and a forward but no panic buys
- 4:49will be made in those positions and the club will buy their time
- 4:51to capture the right players. There will be some emphasis on
- 4:54youth next season which would like to be seen as a
- 4:56transitional season but would still a good expectation to
- 4:59finish as high as possible. One off field change being
- 5:03mooted is the move of home supporter from the famous London
- 5:05Road End to the Desco Stand opposite, but fans will be fully
- 5:08consulted before any decision is made back to Nilesh.
- 5:13Cheers to come. Yeah, okay I.
- 5:15Am now. I'm sorry.
- 5:15I do apologize. I just kind of had a croak in my
- 5:18voice and well, thank you for stepping in.
- 5:20As I said, the show must continue.
- 5:22Indeed, indeed. What do you think of all that
- 5:24posh information that came out last night?
- 5:28Yeah, I didn't get a chance to catch up with it, but I was with
- 5:32Aaron last night at the Great Eastern Run launch.
- 5:33But yeah, it's encouraging to hear that POSH is still in the
- 5:35market. I wouldn't be surprised if we've
- 5:37already got one or two of those positions ticked off they.
- 5:42You go to Saint George's Park for a week, longer, training
- 5:45session, training week, preseason camp after playing
- 5:48Stamford tomorrow, and yeah, I won't be surprised if one or two
- 5:51of those players have already arrived and are in the building.
- 5:55I haven't got any insight into that before.
- 5:56You ask me and just my my head thinking that you want those
- 6:01players in so they can come as part of the preseason training
- 6:04camp. And it's not just about the
- 6:06training and the fitness, it's also about integrating him into
- 6:08the squad as well, which is just as important, and a preseason
- 6:10training camp. One of the details I didn't
- 6:13mention on there was that part of the campus in George's Park
- 6:15is that Posh have apparently hired a room to actually welcome
- 6:19new signings if any occur while they're there.
- 6:20OK, so like say could we mixture of this players already already
- 6:24sort of. Agreed.
- 6:25And just need to be revealed. Yeah, and maybe then something
- 6:27will happen while they're there. Yeah, and I think that will
- 6:29might may well be the case that one or two players perhaps
- 6:33already in the building in addition to the three new
- 6:36signings that we've had in the last couple of weeks as well.
- 6:39So no doubt we'll hear more from Posh in the next week and
- 6:42hopefully the preseason friendly at Stamford goes well and it's a
- 6:45great occasion for Stamford as well.
- 6:47Yeah, we have Peter United visiting and I certainly do know
- 6:51of a. A few posh fans that we're
- 6:52making the very short trip up to Stamford and via train and
- 6:56enjoying Stamford's hospitality. Yeah, pretty much tomorrow.
- 7:00As a longstanding season ticket holder, obviously in a massive
- 7:02little fan, what do you think of the potential move of home fans
- 7:05from London Road to the the opposite side?
- 7:08In terms of facilities, you'd probably say it's a better shout
- 7:13in terms of atmosphere, yeah, that's a positive as well.
- 7:17But if I was thinking back to. So just reminiscing and what the
- 7:21London Road End means, you know we've had many a great day in
- 7:24there. We've also had some bad days as
- 7:26well. I'm going to bring Aaron in on
- 7:28this one, being in Norwich CC fan if you remember right as
- 7:31well. So you've obviously had
- 7:32transition of grounds there as well and whereabouts do you sit
- 7:37at Cara Rd. then? So you just have a season ticket
- 7:40up to a few years ago and actually did some work as a bits
- 7:43and pieces with the football club in a previous life.
- 7:46So see my my season ticket was always in the river and I had
- 7:48years and years there. And again, very, very similar to
- 7:51Posh with her. We've had years and seasons
- 7:53where the fans have been moved around and while we've had you
- 7:56know various developments and I've seen to remember the old
- 7:58Gerald, Stan I think was. Was open about by 10/10/12 years
- 8:02ago now. So again we've had over there
- 8:05very similar sort of transition with fans being moved.
- 8:07And I guess in and around where you're sitting strike standing.
- 8:11You get to know who's around you, don't you build up those
- 8:13friendships as well from that perspective.
- 8:15Very, very close relationships you make, make for obviously for
- 8:17friends are with those people sitting around.
- 8:18You enjoy obviously the football for a couple of hours or you
- 8:21know every other other Saturday in the main and you you get to
- 8:23know those people. Yeah, do you think, I mean,
- 8:24obviously we don't know what's gonna happen to new stadium as
- 8:27far as partial concerning the embankment, but.
- 8:29Could it be a tactical move to move the home supporters into a
- 8:31new part of the ground? So therefore it gives the
- 8:33opportunity to develop the other end and you can always cut the
- 8:35capacity for away fans if you need to do that sort of thing.
- 8:38Do you may know? Yeah, the statistics around it
- 8:40was the away fans currently are housed in the corner of the main
- 8:43stat, which be and that you'd have posh fans either side of
- 8:46them effectively. And you know, of course we want
- 8:49to get promoted, but those bigger games, the allocation we
- 8:51reduce. So yeah, there's various
- 8:53logistics around it and I'm sure we'll hear more in the coming, I
- 8:57won't say weeks, but certainly. Months.
- 8:59I think that plan may well develop as well.
- 9:01Yeah, absolutely. Cool, right.
- 9:03So thank you for joining us this evening.

- 11:07Welcome back to PCR Sports here on PCRFM for the start of your
- 11:11sporting weekend. Thank you for joining me us on
- 11:14this very sunny evening here in Peterborough.
- 11:17We're here every Friday between 6:00 and 7:00 discussing the
- 11:19local sports scene in our city. And our guest this evening is
- 11:24Aaron Morrell from the Great Eastern Run and the organizers
- 11:27good Running events. Welcome back to the show, Aaron.
- 11:30It's your hat trick show. Great to have you with us again.
- 11:34And yeah, let's just dive straight in.
- 11:37In the last 24 hours, you've just announced some changes for
- 11:39this year's events. Do you know, enlighten our
- 11:43listeners to if they haven't heard about it already?
- 11:45Definitely so, so really pleased to to to announce that finally
- 11:49it's been a been a lot of work by a lot, a lot of people to get
- 11:52to where we are today. But we've got an improved route
- 11:54for both the half marathon and the Anastope 5K fun run this
- 11:57year. Something that that I personally
- 12:00in the whole team have wanted to to do for quite some time since
- 12:02we we took over the event event almost two years ago and the
- 12:06Peterborough Cathedral obviously is such a a fantastic landmark.
- 12:10Central point of the of the whole city is going to be
- 12:12featuring for the first time in the events history for as part
- 12:16of the race route. So that's something that we're
- 12:17extremely excited about and hopefully is going to be really
- 12:20well received by by everyone that takes part.
- 12:22So we yeah, we've worked really hard, improved the route as much
- 12:25as we possibly can for the runners adding in the the
- 12:27cathedral section and running through the grounds as well as a
- 12:29few other tweaks here and there to to really improve it as best
- 12:32as we can. What an iconic landmark to be
- 12:35running through the grounds of the cathedral as well and.
- 12:38On the way out you're going to be running 3 cathedral square as
- 12:40well. You'll see the cathedral just on
- 12:42the right hand side through the arches, and then on your way
- 12:45back you'll be running in the shadow of the great cathedral
- 12:48itself as well. So you know what a great boost
- 12:50that would be in a landmark for runners to look for as they come
- 12:53into the end of their 5K or half marathon run it.
- 12:56Really is as you say that the five 5K will go out as far as
- 12:59Central Park, obviously the the in the main in terms of the
- 13:01start finish area, so on Bishops Road again with the event
- 13:04village being based on Embankment, so the same same
- 13:07sort of layout as what it was the last.
- 13:08With the changes that we made originally, again to to try and
- 13:11improve it as much as we can for everybody, make sure it's 100%
- 13:14Rd. based. And obviously with a half
- 13:16marathon route that takes the longer route into the areas like
- 13:19Paston and Warrington. As soon as you've then got as
- 13:21far away from the city center if you like it, and turning back
- 13:25and making your way back from 6-7 miles onwards, you can then
- 13:28see the cathedral from those areas and you've really got
- 13:30something to aim for as you as you're running back.
- 13:34For being so close because it's literally within the the final
- 13:37mile. So it's really, you know, a good
- 13:39target and you know, a visual iconic landmark that everybody
- 13:42can aim for. Yeah, And it's great to have the
- 13:44cathedral on board with that as well, because no doubt there was
- 13:46logistics with their services on a Sunday morning, for example.
- 13:48So you know, to have their support was a real boost and a
- 13:51fillet to the event itself. It's been fantastic.
- 13:53They've been ever so supportive, the whole, whole team at the
- 13:55Cathedral that they get in a team together themselves.
- 13:58There they take apart this year raising money for charity.
- 14:00We're running in both the half marathon and the 5K and gonna
- 14:03go. Have some training sessions.
- 14:04They're going to be coming along and they've been ever so
- 14:07supportive and you know it's been a lot of hard work by a lot
- 14:10of people as I say to to get it all approved and and you know
- 14:13announced and we're grateful for everybody's support and getting
- 14:16to where we are today and and now the news is public.
- 14:19And you really want to make this a city event and a regional
- 14:21event as well, don't you? It's not just about the runners
- 14:24themselves, but you want the whole community to get involved
- 14:26as well. It we really do, as we say, the
- 14:29whole city, the whole local area, you know it.
- 14:31There's a lot of prestige that comes with this race with.
- 14:34With how fast and and flat it is it's a really good chance for
- 14:37for a 5K and a half marathon personal best as I say with the
- 14:41changes that that that we've made this year and I've I've
- 14:43been wanting to make in terms of featuring the the Cathedral
- 14:46within the race route you've I've always thought that you
- 14:49know you've got such a great city that you host this great
- 14:51event in that obviously you you know that we we took over last
- 14:54year and you've got such an iconic landmark.
- 14:56It makes perfect sense to to involve it in the race route and
- 14:59the runners will will have a fantastic view as they're
- 15:02running right by the cathedral come the. 15th of October.
- 15:05Yeah. And just in terms of the
- 15:08Prestige, you know, we've mentioned it just a few moments
- 15:10ago as well, but the pictures that you're going to generate
- 15:13from that as well, you know, runners running in front of the
- 15:16the West, you know, Cathedral itself as well, just make it
- 15:19such an iconic event and just a pitch that you want as well
- 15:22while you're running there. It really will be obviously as
- 15:24you say in terms of the media that will generate the images
- 15:26and the videos that we can get is it's never been done before
- 15:29of. Obviously checked back
- 15:30throughout the whole, it's a lot of people say we definitely
- 15:33never have gone through the Cathedral grounds and I know
- 15:36there's been been talking, there's been been tries
- 15:38previously, but for obviously various reasons that it never
- 15:41got over the line if you like to coin a phrase.
- 15:43So yeah, it's fantastic that for the first time ever it's going
- 15:45to be happening and and something for for everybody to
- 15:48look forward to no matter if you're taking part, you're
- 15:50running. Volunteering you're supporting.
- 15:52You're one of our charity partners or sponsors.
- 15:54It's something for for everybody to get excited about and get
- 15:57behind. And it's, you know, from a 5K
- 15:59perspective as well, you know for the fun run to go through
- 16:02there as well. You know again that's brilliant
- 16:04for young children that will be taking part as well to be able
- 16:07to. Running the grounds, the
- 16:08cathedral as well, and see such an iconic building and so
- 16:11hopefully it'll spark their interest as well in the city
- 16:13itself. It really, really will do.
- 16:15Cat. Carol Fermanis Hope has been
- 16:16fantastic in terms of visits in a lot of schools and do as a
- 16:19promo for for the 5K Fun Run. As we say, both the half
- 16:22marathon and the 5K Fun Run will be going through the grounds of
- 16:25the Cathedral And obviously we've made some some tweaks as
- 16:28well in terms of service times. And the Cathedral has been
- 16:30fantastically supportive in terms of what they've done to
- 16:32accommodate us and what we need and obviously for what we we can
- 16:36help them with. And and as you say, you know
- 16:38that with a 5K fun run going through as well as well as a
- 16:41half marathon, it's it's it's going to be fantastic.
- 16:43We cannot wait for race day. And it's it's I think you
- 16:46obviously Peter is famous for his cathedral.
- 16:49But having said that as a as a as a visual because it's it sits
- 16:53behind a lot of other buildings. People don't fully appreciate
- 16:56time. You know OK you could be
- 16:58traveling along the Parkway. You can kind of look down on it
- 17:00that way or if you actually literally step in the grounds
- 17:02and you you appreciate the magnificence of it but.
- 17:05It's kind of almost it sits there, but people don't take it
- 17:08for granted, don't they? So to have this route now going
- 17:10right next to it, it's really going to to sort of put it in
- 17:14people's faces to a degree, isn't it?
- 17:15It really does. I think the other show briefly
- 17:18mentioned it a little earlier that obviously the route goes
- 17:19through Cathedral Squares. You have a little bit of a
- 17:21teaser and obviously with the route that we used last year.
- 17:24Obviously as obviously anyone in the city is going to know, you
- 17:27obviously have the view from the square through the arch
- 17:29obviously to the Cathedral, but it's a little bit of a teaser
- 17:32last year that you obviously not able to to run through it,
- 17:34whereas this year's you absolutely will be able to.
- 17:36But in terms of I think 2016 is what I mentioned last night,
- 17:40wasn't it in the less when we had our official launch if you
- 17:42like and had a little event to talk through the changes and
- 17:452016 was the the the record numbers in terms of
- 17:48participation of over 6000 that year between the two distances.
- 17:51Obviously there was a lot of people coming from outside of
- 17:54the city and outside of the area to come and take part in this
- 17:56race, which we really want to try and increase and get that
- 17:59back again. To see see those those really
- 18:01high numbers coming to Peterborough, spending the money
- 18:04in the local businesses, staying in the local accommodation and
- 18:06making a real weekend in this this great city.
- 18:09Because what? Whilst people are running,
- 18:10obviously they're focused on their running and especially the
- 18:12ones that perhaps doing it more seriously.
- 18:14But they still want good surroundings, don't they?
- 18:16To to run through and run past. Yeah, they really do, you know,
- 18:19to to make the effect. From a running perspective,
- 18:21can't we as well? You know, we've both done half
- 18:23marathons and 10 KS and marathons itself, and having
- 18:26that visual makes it so much more.
- 18:29Perhaps in job was not the right word to bearable.
- 18:31Maybe, depending on how you're feeling and how your training's
- 18:34gone. Depending on your sort.
- 18:36Of Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 18:37But I think, yeah, you've hit the nail on the head there.
- 18:38That visual nature of running somewhere really does help your
- 18:42mindset as well, and takes, perhaps takes your mind away
- 18:44from the aches and pains that you might be going through.
- 18:46Yeah, and as a runner this year as well, obviously having that
- 18:48cathedral, as you say to aim for, but knowing once you you
- 18:51then get that fantastic view as you go into the grounds and
- 18:53you're running around the cathedral, you know you've then
- 18:55got got like if you have 4-5 hundred metres left before you
- 18:57then get I was. About to say actually, because
- 18:59it's not just. The visual thing it's it's the
- 19:00excitement of the fact that it's featured the first time in this
- 19:02race and let's say the excitement running past it, but
- 19:05also knowing that you literally yards from the finishing line as
- 19:08well, which is a motivator in itself isn't.
- 19:10It exactly. It's also going to be fresh,
- 19:11fresh in the mind and obviously the runners now this year now
- 19:13that we've obviously announced it and say that that's what
- 19:15we're going to be doing in terms of the race route.
- 19:17Then it's obviously you know as a marker in the head to say when
- 19:19I get there that you know I'm I'm very nearly there.
- 19:21Obviously you've got signs and things that tell you where it's
- 19:23you are that I'm in halfway through with your watches but
- 19:27but now there's that that you know that that visual reference
- 19:29if you. Like to really aim for?
- 19:31Just going you mentioned about the boost for the local economy
- 19:34as well in the city center. I'm going to stick with the
- 19:38positives here. Hotel rooms, the local cafes,
- 19:43restaurants really is an opportunity for.
- 19:47Let's say primarily city centre businesses to benefit from an
- 19:50event where you you're drawing in thousands of people, whether
- 19:53they're participating, spectating, volunteering,
- 19:56whatever their role may be on that Sunday morning or even on
- 19:59the Saturday and Friday during set up.
- 20:01It's about helping boost the city and its economy.
- 20:04It really is as I say there's there's so many opportunities
- 20:07when you when you talk about Great East and that you know you
- 20:09can get involved with them. We definitely as I say invite
- 20:12the local businesses to be able to you know reach out talk to us
- 20:15about the event There's there's so many ways you can get
- 20:17involved be it you know for from you know a corporate Ron's
- 20:20responsibility perspective and providing teams of volunteers to
- 20:23come and help out. To be able to get a team
- 20:25together for from from your business and take part in one of
- 20:27the two distances and raise money for one of the the
- 20:30fantastic charity partners that we now have.
- 20:32We have a lot more this year as well and you know get involved
- 20:36but potentially be a sponsor but you know to make sure that the
- 20:39event is is here for the long term we we do need additional
- 20:41sponsors. So there's so many opportunities
- 20:44that the local businesses and the local economy can get
- 20:47involved with. Yeah, and from a runners
- 20:49perspective, for some it's always about the bling.
- 20:54So half marathon participants and 5K fun runners will also get
- 20:57a medal. Yes, a 2023 medal.
- 21:00And as far as to say, there's obviously going to be further
- 21:02things coming in terms of what those medals look like, what
- 21:04this year's tshirts look like and obviously we'll be releasing
- 21:07all of that. But but yeah, as, as we say,
- 21:08probably one step at a time to yes.
- 21:11Indeed. What we're obviously releasing
- 21:13and when. Yeah, so we've got, let's take
- 21:15these off, really a fast, flat course on close roads.
- 21:20You've got an event village, for example, where runners can
- 21:24gather as well and have the opportunity to engage with the
- 21:27charity partners that are there. And you've got Pacers.
- 21:30Yes. You just elaborate on the paces
- 21:32a little bit as well as to, yeah, sure, how that, how that
- 21:35role can be very supportive of an individual's run.
- 21:38So perhaps if if you're taking on particularly your first half
- 21:41marathon, we do have a team of of paces which are kindly
- 21:44sponsored by Savile's. So the SAVOS team of Pacers will
- 21:47be a group of of local runners who have have paced running
- 21:51events before and they will all be designated a time.
- 21:54So whether you're you're aiming for a one hour 30 minutes half
- 21:57marathon, or if you're aiming all the way through the times to
- 22:00go to a 245 three hour half marathon, no matter what the
- 22:04time is that you're aiming for, they'll be a Pacer group.
- 22:06That that's that's near your your target time and they they
- 22:09they are fantastically supportive.
- 22:11We're really grateful to them obviously to be able to to pay
- 22:13our groups of runners to to their desired time and yeah,
- 22:16I've run as part of a pace group before and it's fantastic, you
- 22:19know the camaraderie and it really boosts your morale.
- 22:22Yeah. And having that group around you
- 22:24as well, just picking each other up as well, where you may be
- 22:26feeling that you're dropping off as well.
- 22:28There also can be 5 water stations on the course as well.
- 22:30It's all chip timed. You've got the finisher goodies,
- 22:34we've talked about the medal that you'll be revealing later
- 22:39on this year. You've got the event village
- 22:40itself as well. So All in all, it's geared up to
- 22:44be an event that really, I suppose the easy bit.
- 22:48He's just got to train for it, you know, you've done all the
- 22:50hard work, so to speak, and as the organizer it's down to the
- 22:53individuals then to get training for it.
- 22:56Yeah, sure. And obviously with the training,
- 22:59there's a couple of options this year.
- 23:01There's. Cooper is our new training
- 23:03partner. So if for anyone isn't aware,
- 23:05Cooper isn't an app which can provide you with a personalized
- 23:08plan based on your desired time. So we definitely recommend that
- 23:11anyone that's thinking perhaps taking on their, you know, the
- 23:131st or the 1st 100 half marathon.
- 23:15Yeah, to take a look at that, but also we've got, you know, a
- 23:18designs training plan in terms of your be beginner,
- 23:20intermediate and advanced. And that they've already started
- 23:23their eighteen week plans and they're building nicely into the
- 23:26training sessions that we we're starting next week.
- 23:28Brilliant. Hold that thought there about
- 23:29training. We'll come on to that very
- 23:31shortly. We're just going to take a few
- 23:32messages from our sponsors as well and we'll be back with our
- 23:35morale from the Great Eastern Run and talking all things about
- 23:39the half marathon and 5K fun run which is taking place on the
- 23:4115th of October this year. Representing more than 400

- 25:31Good evening and welcome back to PCR Sports here on PCRFM for the
- 25:35start of your sporting weekend. We're here every Friday.
- 25:39Thank you for joining us. We're here between 6:00 and 7:00
- 25:43bringing you the latest sports headlines from in and around our
- 25:45city. And our guest this evening is
- 25:48Aaron Morrell from the Organizers Good Running Events,
- 25:52who are organizers off the Great Eastern Run and the 5K Fun Run.
- 25:56And Aaron's just been covering off how the course has been
- 25:59amended this year. Which will be taken in the
- 26:01grounds of the Peterborough Cathedral, So such an iconic
- 26:04venue in our city, and you'll be able to take part in the half
- 26:07marathon and the 5K fun run and run through the grounds of the
- 26:12cathedral itself. So yeah, you're thinking about
- 26:16signing up, You have signed up. But Aaron, they really need to
- 26:20train for it as well, don't they?
- 26:21It's great that people got the enthusiasm.
- 26:24But you can also support them with their training as well over
- 26:26the coming months. Definitely.
- 26:28So we're really pleased to to be able to host the free training
- 26:31sessions again this year. They they run every other week,
- 26:35so they're beginning next Wednesday, Wednesday, the 12th
- 26:37of July. They start at 7:00.
- 26:39O'clock, there's no need to register.
- 26:40There's no cost. They're completely free.
- 26:43All you need to do is arrive at Bushfield Leisure Centre in your
- 26:46running gear. In your trainers and and ready,
- 26:48ready for a run at your pace, we do just in the same way as I
- 26:52said earlier about the paces on race day.
- 26:54Those paces are some, some of them, other ones that take the
- 26:57the groups of runners around on those training sessions as well.
- 27:00It's an opportunity to to meet myself and the coaches and some
- 27:04of the partner charities. So I think you're going to be
- 27:06there one of them as well on the initial least, if not a few, and
- 27:10they're fantastic. I run myself in a lot of those
- 27:13sessions last year. They're fantastically put
- 27:15together, There's a group. Based on your time, so don't
- 27:18feel put off. If it's your first half
- 27:20marathon, you haven't begun your training, it doesn't matter.
- 27:22There will be a group there to be able to go at your pace.
- 27:26So as we say, there's no pressure.
- 27:28You don't need to register. They're completely free and just
- 27:30just every other Wednesday at Bushfield Leisure Center at 7:00
- 27:33o'clock and they're they're fantastic sessions.
- 27:35Yeah, starting on the 12th of July and that's at the Bushfield
- 27:39Support Center as Aaron mentions there as well.
- 27:41And I guess it's also a great social occasion as well in the
- 27:44way that. You know, fellow runners, you're
- 27:46all in the same boat. You know you're all irrespective
- 27:49of your pace. You're all there for one reason,
- 27:51and that's because you want to take part in the Great Eastern
- 27:53Run itself. It is.
- 27:54You're there, as you say, for the same reason you don't have
- 27:57to be signed up for the Great Eastern just yet.
- 27:59You just merely need to be thinking about it if you just
- 28:01want to come along for for a social run for the evening but
- 28:03thinking you might sign up in the next few weeks.
- 28:05And you know it's also a great venue to be able to start and
- 28:08finish out and obviously so close to Snean Park Runner by
- 28:11Ferry Meadows, just just over there at that end of the city.
- 28:14We're obviously really grateful to Vivasity also for providing
- 28:17the host venue for those runs. And as you say, you know get get
- 28:21to meet new people, meet runners like minded people that that
- 28:24love running that as much as what you do.
- 28:26And yeah, as I say, I took part in them myself last year and
- 28:29they're fantastic to get involved.
- 28:31In yeah. And take that advice for more
- 28:32experienced runners as well in terms of how to.
- 28:35You know how to how to begin your half marathon journey and
- 28:38your training for that as well. And with those paces, as I say
- 28:41is is one of those whereas there's an opportunity for you
- 28:44know question and answers also at the end of the runs with with
- 28:46those paces, you know where whereabouts do we have to go on
- 28:48race day or you know where would be best to park or all of the
- 28:51the running related questions what you have trainers or what
- 28:54gear should I be wearing you know where how frequently should
- 28:57I be training. There's there's so many
- 28:58questions that you can ask and get answered by by the various
- 29:01people that are there to answer them for you.
- 29:02Yeah. And you mentioned just before we
- 29:04went to the. The break about the training
- 29:07partner that you've got to help support that as well and that's
- 29:11a Cooper, Yes, I just heard a little about them and how they
- 29:15can support anybody that's looking to to do the half
- 29:18marathon this year. Yeah, sure.
- 29:19So Cooper is at one of our new partners this year is, it is an
- 29:22app which provides you with a personalized training plan.
- 29:25What one of one of the faces behind it is a lady called
- 29:27Jordan, she's she's actually from Peterborough and I think
- 29:30you you know as well Tony, she's on to passes near these days.
- 29:33She doesn't live in Peterborough anymore.
- 29:34She she's moved. Way with the with the family but
- 29:37but but it's a cracking little app.
- 29:39I use it myself and it provides you with a personalized training
- 29:43plan so we definitely recommend runners look at that.
- 29:45We've also got as I say the the PDF version that runners can
- 29:48follow for an 18 week version if they didn't want to you know use
- 29:51an app and prefer something that they can print out and display.
- 29:54So we have got that available for the the training section on
- 29:56the the great Eastern run website
- 29:58whichisgreateasternrun.co.uk so have a look at that and there's
- 30:01two options for runners this year in terms of the training
- 30:04better than the single option that.
- 30:05We had last year. I think it's certainly coming
- 30:08across to myself and hopefully to our listeners this evening
- 30:11that there is that support out there.
- 30:14You know you're not alone when you're taking on 1/2 marathon,
- 30:16whether it be your first one or you've run a few before.
- 30:19There is that not just physical support, but there's also that
- 30:22mental support as well in terms of the the running community
- 30:25here in the city. There really is and I think I've
- 30:28obviously said in previous visits when I've come on and it
- 30:31obviously explained about the event that you know Peterborough
- 30:33really does have a fantastic running community.
- 30:35Obviously with the various clubs, they're all so
- 30:37supportive. They help us out with volunteers
- 30:39in terms of the promotion of the event, the the the clubs
- 30:42obviously have the runners sign up for it as well.
- 30:44Obviously for the for the whole GPAN network of clubs that we
- 30:47have here locally, you know there's there's fantastic
- 30:50support there. So yeah and obviously we're
- 30:52we're really grateful for it and we we love that.
- 30:54Obviously there's so many people that get behind it and support
- 30:56it. Yeah, and it's great to have
- 30:57that backing of the running community here in the city as
- 31:00well, because that just helps grow the event hopefully going
- 31:03forward and having the buy in from runners and endorsing the
- 31:07event can only be a positive for the half marathon in our city.
- 31:12Absolutely and and obviously the you know the event and in terms
- 31:14of obviously its size and as you as you say we've obviously
- 31:17mentioned that we want to grow it and see it back to the
- 31:19numbers that it, it was a few years ago in like 20/18/2017 to
- 31:23to really make it a staple you know marquee event in in.
- 31:26The portfolio of events that this city you know this great
- 31:29city hosts think that likes to set celebrates any other events
- 31:32in the city center that take place through the year.
- 31:34The Great Eastern sits in a portfolio of fantastic events
- 31:37that's hosted in this city. And you know a key part of that
- 31:39is the the the people in in those clubs and and obviously
- 31:42the city that they get behind it and support it in terms of
- 31:45running it, volunteering at it, sponsoring it.
- 31:47So yeah we want to see it here for as as long as possible and
- 31:50and grow it to as big as it can. Yeah, we've talked about Parker
- 31:54on the show many a time and the benefits of.
- 31:56Park run whether you want to walk, jog or run a 5K as well
- 32:00and you look at it so your park run takeover later on this
- 32:03month. We are indeed.
- 32:04We're looking at it's most likely going to be at the end of
- 32:06July that will be over at Ferry Meadows.
- 32:08So obviously another opportunity if you know dates might not
- 32:10perhaps work for the ever ever Wednesday with the training
- 32:12sessions but you want you're a regular park runner to be able
- 32:15to, to meet myself and ask any questions.
- 32:18We're looking to have the pet some of the Pacers down there as
- 32:20well. To to ferry Meadows park run so
- 32:22so yeah obviously keep an eye on the the great Eastern run
- 32:25socials to be able to see exactly when that's going to be
- 32:27and and obviously encourage as many people to go along to park
- 32:29one as well. Obviously with it being a free
- 32:31run on that every Saturday morning that the obviously run
- 32:34is you know maybe thinking about should I do a great Eastern sign
- 32:36up maybe raise money for charity that we definitely recommend you
- 32:39know building those park runs with those three runs on the
- 32:42Saturday. Training plan as well and the
- 32:46fact. The Pete's Borough Park run at
- 32:48Ferry Meadows is so popular, you know, we've had what, upwards of
- 32:52500 in the last few weeks, every Saturday morning of whatever
- 32:56ability you are as well. And it's just another great
- 33:00opportunity for people to find out more about the event itself
- 33:02and the fact that you'll be there, The Pacers and another
- 33:06organizers, just to help spread the word about the event as well
- 33:09if they don't hear it through other mediums.
- 33:11It does and as I say, we'll just have obviously have a short,
- 33:14short chat obviously at the beginning before 4, obviously
- 33:16the runners get going and then we'll we'll be available.
- 33:18Just keep it, keep an eye out for the for the great Eastern
- 33:20run flags and obviously there's an opportunity there.
- 33:22I'll make myself available for as long, as long as needed for
- 33:24any questions that the runners might.
- 33:26Have take it, you'll be running it as well.
- 33:28I'll. Probably trains on.
- 33:29Hopefully I'll be able to go go around the park.
- 33:31Yes, I am. Obviously keen running myself
- 33:33and I think obviously we've been down at very many also many a
- 33:36time doing like the 5K series just straight off the top of my
- 33:38head. But but yeah, I started might be
- 33:40one of the quick runners. There's a question of making
- 33:42sure there's someone else there to answer any questions for the
- 33:45quicker runners that will be doing a park quicker than I can.
- 33:48Yeah, the challenge of that in self as well, isn't it as well,
- 33:50But that would be great if you were to take part as well.
- 33:53Have you done it before? Very.
- 33:54Meadows very Meadows Park run, yeah, I've done very Meadows
- 33:56Park run as well as the. I did last year the the 5K Grand
- 33:59Prix series on Wednesday even and unfortunately that that
- 34:02exact one clashes with one of our training sessions this year.
- 34:04But as we mentioned obviously before we started tonight,
- 34:06there's going to be clashes somewhere.
- 34:07There's so many activities and it's inevitable unfortunately,
- 34:10but at least the the good thing is that there's too many to pick
- 34:13from as opposed to there not being anything for the runners.
- 34:16So yeah, date for your diary for our listeners this evening,
- 34:19Fairy Meadows Park run 29th of July and that's where Aaron and
- 34:25his team will be down there. Taking over Peterborough, sorry,
- 34:29I say Peterborough Park run, it's Ferry Meadows Park run.
- 34:31Let me get the terminology correct there.
- 34:33And and yeah, if you are looking to find out more about the Great
- 34:37Eastern Run but want to do it sort of face to face and can't
- 34:39make those training runs which are starting on Wednesday, then
- 34:43there's another opportunity for you as well.
- 34:46Just just a quick question I suppose for you Aaron, is
- 34:49obviously last year was your first event as an as an
- 34:52organizer. I know you really do rerun
- 34:54yourself, but how do you sort of?
- 34:57Take feedback from last year's event and how do you then try to
- 35:00then decide what to incorporate of that feedback into the year,
- 35:03into this year's run and yeah, and how do you sort of tackle
- 35:05that? Because obviously you're going
- 35:06to, you're going to get feedback of all sorts from all types of
- 35:09ways and and from all, all all types of people, so.
- 35:12How do you sort of filter all that?
- 35:14We we just tried to do as like anyone would the best we can.
- 35:17Obviously you know not not everything you know, you know
- 35:19was absolutely spot on last year.
- 35:21You know we've recognized that and and obviously you know
- 35:24fronted up immediately afterwards when you, you know,
- 35:26we we were faced with some challenges but but it's about
- 35:29how you know, you recognize that and you put it right so that as
- 35:32I say, there's been a lot of work that's been done since.
- 35:35And the good thing also, you know, try not to let it affect
- 35:39your mental health too much. But obviously you know for how
- 35:42you know, easy it is I guess to criticize obviously on social
- 35:44these days, obviously about, you know, something that might not
- 35:47have been, you know, quite right.
- 35:48But what we try to do is keep across everything.
- 35:50We take it into account all of the feedback, not all of it
- 35:53might necessarily be, you know, it's easy to implement things
- 35:56about like root changes and things like that.
- 35:58But what I can say is that obviously the elements, just
- 36:00thinking straight off the top of my head for obviously anyone
- 36:02that did take part last year. We've removed the the turn
- 36:06outside of the university campus not runners want two key not
- 36:09that last year there's a team runner myself that was just as
- 36:12you know to quite a phrase a necessary evil to make sure that
- 36:15obviously from a distance side of things and with the planning
- 36:18that we needed to have that included.
- 36:19But with the changes that we've made this year it's not only
- 36:22much better for the runners in terms of there being less turns
- 36:24and and you know with the addition of the Cathedral being
- 36:27what it is. But also making sure that you
- 36:30know, we've we've taken in as much feedback as we we possibly
- 36:32can. We've listened to it all, We've
- 36:33read it all. I possibly look through every
- 36:35word of the feedback I always see, but we've implemented as
- 36:39much as we pragmatically can. Yeah, because you see trends
- 36:41when you're merging for feedback.
- 36:43So I guess you create a priority listen thing, right?
- 36:45That's that's the one or two or three things, whatever it might
- 36:47be that. That most people are critiquing.
- 36:50Let's tackle those the first and foremost.
- 36:52Yeah, absolutely. And with a new event, you know,
- 36:54a new city, you know, with any audience not organizing, you're
- 36:57never going to get anything right.
- 36:58And you know, as I say, we're referring some challenges and
- 37:01you know we're really grateful to obviously the vast majority
- 37:03of residents that obviously, you know, we're really really, you
- 37:06know, accommodating and supportive of the event of I've
- 37:09never known an event like it that you know the the residents
- 37:11and the supporters come out to, you know, every element and area
- 37:15of the route to the end of their drives and support this race in
- 37:17the way that this. City does.
- 37:19Will you publish a graphic of the route beforehand?
- 37:21People get a visual of where they'd be running and also
- 37:24spectators. Then then can make their mind
- 37:26that where they're going to go and what.
- 37:27Yeah, sure. So we've got an aerial video.
- 37:30If it runs head to the Great Eastern Run, a half marathon
- 37:32page. There's a nice aerial video that
- 37:34we've done on Google that show shows the planned route that
- 37:37obviously the half marathon is going to be taken.
- 37:39Obviously, we'll be sharing something shortly for the 5K,
- 37:41obviously in a similar sort of format.
- 37:44And as I say, there's obviously more more announcements and and
- 37:46things to reveal obviously in the the lead up to race.
- 37:48Don't look forward to. That Prince, Steph, Aaron, thank
- 37:50you for that. We're just going to take another
- 37:52short break. We're back with Aaron and
- 37:54looking at the charity element of the great Eastern run and the
- 37:57benefits of taking part in the 5K or the half marathon and
- 38:02supporting A cause that's very close to your heart.
- 38:07Which sound do you prefer, This one or this one?

- 40:28from in and around our city of ours.
- 40:31And I guess this evening is Aaron Morrell from the
- 40:34organizers of the Great Eastern Run and his company's good
- 40:37running events. And this is Aaron's third
- 40:40appearance on the show and. He's been let us know about the
- 40:43changes to the course and the fact that 5K runners and the
- 40:48half marathon participants this year will be running through the
- 40:51grounds of our fair Peterborough Cathedral and such an iconic
- 40:54landmark that it is as well. So a great opportunity to do
- 40:57that in closed Rd. settings as well.
- 41:01And just a quick update as well from the Test match as well.
- 41:03Day two has finished today between England and Australia.
- 41:06Australia currently lead England by 142 runs with six wickets
- 41:10remaining so. A challenge there for England to
- 41:13try and bowl Australia out early tomorrow and set about chasing
- 41:18that score down to win the crucial third Test match.
- 41:22Aaron, thank you for coming back to the show with us this
- 41:26evening. It's been a busy week for you
- 41:28with the launch event and other media duties that you've had as
- 41:32well, so really do appreciate your time this evening on a
- 41:34Friday especially as well giving us all the information and the
- 41:38updates on the Great Eastern Run and the 5K Fun Run.
- 41:41Let's delve into a little bit more about the community
- 41:43elements. You know, we talk about the
- 41:45economic benefits as well for the city in terms of hotels and
- 41:48bringing people in for the businesses.
- 41:50But from a community perspective, it's really is an
- 41:52event that you want to grow and support the local community
- 41:55through as well. It really is obviously with with
- 41:58charity fundraising being a critical part is you know it's
- 42:01it's it's no secret that the the last last four, four years has
- 42:05been very, very difficult for for a lot of charities in terms
- 42:08of their fundraising. And that this is a great way of
- 42:11being able to make sure that you know a lot of the local
- 42:13charities really do benefit from this this event being hosted and
- 42:16and being put on in in terms of you know teams of runners and
- 42:19you know, setting that fundraising target and hopefully
- 42:22you know smashing it and go way beyond their their fundraising
- 42:24targets through their their various fundraising activities.
- 42:27But making sure that you know the the crucial funds for, you
- 42:30know, a lot of the local charities as well as the
- 42:32national charities. We now partnered with that that
- 42:34you know that there's much fundraising and charity benefit
- 42:37is done through this event as we possibly.
- 42:39Yeah, to benefit the local community and the care and
- 42:41services that the the charity partners that you've got this
- 42:45year as well and you've got some from last year, but you've also
- 42:48got some new partners this year as well.
- 42:50We we do indeed it's it's amazing and and doesn't sound
- 42:53right whenever I say it but but six months to be able to deliver
- 42:56the great Eastern one last year that that we had it.
- 42:59It goes by incredibly quickly in terms of all the planning and
- 43:01organization but we did did have four charity partners last year.
- 43:04This year we've got 16 confirmed and with some more to come as
- 43:07well which is fantastic you know that's that's.
- 43:09The charity fundraising increased at least fourfold and
- 43:12fingers crossed and touch wood for more for for this year.
- 43:15So with Anna's hope being the the title charity partner for
- 43:18the 5K returning again, as well as Sue Rider thought Paul
- 43:21Hospice there there are two largest charity partners.
- 43:24As well as Little Miracles obviously a fantastic local
- 43:27charity as well as E Anglian Air Ambulance, they're all returning
- 43:30for this year. But our new charity partners,
- 43:32I'll mention the ones that we've got for this year is Kidney
- 43:35Research UK, Magpass Air Ambulance, Mintridge Foundation,
- 43:39Dean Park Trust, Alzheimer's Research UK, Peterborough
- 43:42Women's Aid, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Age UKREF
- 43:46Benevolent Fund, as well as Safford, the Armed Forces
- 43:48Charity Living Sport Boxing Futures as well as the
- 43:52Peterborough United, the Posh Foundation.
- 43:54So again there's there's a really good mix now we're really
- 43:57excited to have such a broad, you know range of local and
- 44:01national charities that are really going to benefit from
- 44:04from the funds that are raised through the various for runners
- 44:06fundraising efforts. And the additional benefits of
- 44:10having those charity partners on board as well as?
- 44:12You're exposing the Great Eastern Run and the 5K fun run
- 44:14to their audience, to their database of supporters
- 44:18effectively to help you grow the event, which conversely has a
- 44:21positive impact on the charity as well.
- 44:23It really does as you say particularly with obviously the
- 44:26nationwide charity partners. Obviously you're thinking
- 44:28straight off the top of my head like the likes of Kidney
- 44:30Research UK and Age UK that that obviously have a much wider
- 44:33database in terms of attracting you know new people that might
- 44:36not have visited Peterborough before for obviously for all the
- 44:38benefits were said about earlier in terms of you know but booking
- 44:41into the. Hotels and and you know,
- 44:43enjoying the hospitality businesses that the coffee shops
- 44:46the restaurants and coming to visit in the you know this this
- 44:48great city for for the weekend and making you know a few days
- 44:51of it. Yeah, and making sure the
- 44:52cathedral gets seen as well, and yes, all its glory as well.
- 44:55Absolutely in that way. That's the idea.
- 44:57Indeed. So we talked about the charities
- 44:59there. So yeah, if there is anybody out
- 45:01there who's listening this evening that would like to take
- 45:04part and there's been thinking about it, go to the website
- 45:07whichisgreateasternrun.co.uk. You find all the information
- 45:12there about the charity partners and how you can potentially run
- 45:16for one of them. You've got all the training
- 45:19elements there as well with the links to the Cooper and then the
- 45:22training plans that are available as well.
- 45:24And most importantly, you've got the dates there as well for the
- 45:27get fit for the Great Eastern Run training evenings which will
- 45:30be starting next Wednesday, which is the 12th of July.
- 45:34And they'll be taking place at Bushfield Sports Center.
- 45:38You'll need to arrive just before 7:00 o'clock, ready to
- 45:40run. There'll be a very short
- 45:41briefing and it is suitable for all runners.
- 45:44So whether you're looking to do a 2 1/2 hour marathon, sorry,
- 45:48half marathon or, you know, an hour and a half, there is the
- 45:51opportunity for you to come down, meet some of the paces
- 45:54that speak to some more of the experienced runners and club
- 45:57members who'll be there supporting you.
- 45:59And there's no need to register, it is a free event and they have
- 46:03seven as those sessions taking place every other week starting
- 46:06on the 12th of July which is next Wednesday, just simply need
- 46:09to arrive ready to run. And they are our facilities
- 46:12again, they're at Bushfield and provided by vivacity, changing
- 46:17rooms, toilets, shelf facilities again.
- 46:18So if you did want to get changed before you arrive, then
- 46:22there is the opportunity to do so as well.
- 46:26Having an event like this takes a lot of organizing.
- 46:31Yeah, you've got a team, you know, you probably start in, you
- 46:35know, the following year, literally a week after, perhaps
- 46:38not even that. But it takes a lot of support as
- 46:40well from the community we've talked about from the runner's
- 46:42perspective. But you really need that
- 46:45sponsorship support, I guess as well and that corporate support
- 46:48from businesses in and around the city of Peterborough and
- 46:51this region as well to help put the event on.
- 46:54It's it's critical as you say events like this can't go ahead
- 46:57without volunteers and and then getting behind and supporting
- 47:01the race, but where you know it really does need sponsors as
- 47:03well. So obviously you know we're
- 47:04grateful for the sponsors that we do have.
- 47:07With with Savills and Kingsley beverages as well as Smith's
- 47:10motor group also supporting various elements of the race but
- 47:13but it's it's no secret that obviously we we we need more
- 47:16sponsors. We definitely encourage also
- 47:18that the local corporate businesses to you know no matter
- 47:21what the size is to to you know reach out and drop us an e-mail
- 47:24info@goodrunningevents.co dot UK be more than happy to set up a
- 47:28meeting and obviously have a chat about how the businesses
- 47:30can get involved in either sponsoring it or or you know
- 47:33bringing along a team of volunteers or a team of runners
- 47:35to to raise money for charity. Yeah.
- 47:37It's great exposure for the business as well and the
- 47:39corporate itself made out especially.
- 47:41A large audience as well, obviously taking part between
- 47:43obviously the supporters that will be on embankment, obviously
- 47:45waiting for their, you know, their family or their friends to
- 47:47to obviously finish the race as well as the thousands of runners
- 47:50that that take part and obviously the audience and
- 47:52database that that the event has.
- 47:54Yeah, and the social media aspect of it as well as well,
- 47:57getting their brand and name out to a wider audience can only
- 48:02benefit hopefully of them, As for any partner that does.
- 48:04Look To hasn't already signed up with you, but was looking to as
- 48:08well over the next few months. It really does.
- 48:09It's such a great opportunity and as I say the event
- 48:12definitely needs some more sponsors obviously to ensure
- 48:14that it's it's here for the long term that and obviously in terms
- 48:17of the event being viable. So yeah, we definitely encourage
- 48:19them to to to get in touch with us and and obviously you know
- 48:22we'd love to have a chat. Yeah, it's probably a motorbike
- 48:24you can hear in the background. I probably just thought
- 48:26listeners there, but no motorbikes can be used for the
- 48:295K or the half marathon itself. Aaron would come very quickly to
- 48:34the end of the show this evening.
- 48:35Thank you again for your time. Just remind our listeners again
- 48:38where they need to go the the training that's on offer as well
- 48:42and just to give us a quick hopefully minute, minute, half
- 48:44just a summary of what we've been discussing.
- 48:46Yeah, sure. So the great Eastern run.
- 48:48It's a half marathon and 5K fun run, suitable for all abilities,
- 48:52no matter if it's your first event or you've done 100 of them
- 48:55before. We obviously encourage everyone
- 48:56to be able to get behind it, get themselves signed up.
- 48:59All of the details they need, head to the website
- 49:01greateasternrun.co.uk. It's being held on the 15th of
- 49:04October this year, so it's obviously plenty of time to get
- 49:07your entry in as well as get get yourself trained and race ready
- 49:11in terms of your fitness. There's still plenty of time to
- 49:12go in terms of a fitness aspect. And you know it's really
- 49:16something to look forward to obviously with the announcements
- 49:18that we made this week with the new new route that's going to be
- 49:21passed by Peterborough Cathedral.
- 49:23You know something really unique has never been done before.
- 49:25It's the first time in the events history.
- 49:26So we're we're really looking forward to race day.
- 49:28I would definitely encourage everyone to get behind it and
- 49:31yeah, we're looking forward to seeing everyone in October.
- 49:33Brilliant, Steph, Aaron, thank you for your time again this
- 49:36evening. Very much appreciated.
- 49:39That was Aaron Morrell from Good Running Events, organizers of
- 49:42the Great Eastern Run. And just a reminder, that date
- 49:45is the October the 15th. And if you did want some more
- 49:48information and to sign up, crucially, go to
- 49:51greateasternrun.co.uk and you'll find all the information there
- 49:55and the opportunity to get in touch with Aaron as well.
- 49:58If you're a local business looking to support the event,
- 50:02thank you again for your time this evening.
- 50:04This is PCR Sports here on PCR FM.
- 50:07We'll be back again next Friday between 6:00 and 7:00.
- 50:11But it just leaves me to say once again, whatever your
- 50:13involvement in sports, whether it's volunteering, playing or
- 50:16spectating, we do issue a very successful and enjoyable
- 50:19sporting weekend.
