- 2:43for West Virginia's Secretary of State, Chris Pritt, Good morning, sir,
- 2:45How are you? Good morning, Dave, Nice to be with you,
- 2:46Nice to have you here. The beautiful weather out here, today's fantastic.
- 2:50So you're all suited and tied up today. Is there an opportunity that you
- 2:54might get to get out and enjoy some of this weather today probably not today.
- 2:58Can you look at it? You have a window where you eat.
- 3:00We have a window we can look through like otherwise I'll just be tied up
- 3:02in meetings and phone calls for the vast majority of the day. I hate
- 3:06that for you, because it could be like summer, it's like eighty eight
- 3:07degrees or something today. Man. So, but at least you got a
- 3:10window. A lot of people don't have that. At least at least you
- 3:14gotta wind all right, Before we talk about you're a candidacy for Secretary of
- 3:16State, I want to talk about your current job you are, of course,
- 3:19remember the House of Delegate Interims just wrapped up. Your take on interims.
- 3:23I think they went pretty well. I think we were able to get
- 3:25a lot of information from individuals. There was some recaps of legislation that were
- 3:34passed this past year, and I think it went pretty well. One of
- 3:38the things that's so important about interims is it gives us the opportunity to do
- 3:43a deep dive into issues that are important that are possibly not ready for prime
- 3:50time, so to speak. The legislation isn't ready to go, but it
- 3:53helps inform us because certainly, anytime you're passing any piece of legislation, it's
- 3:58a really big deal and you want to make sure that it's thought through you.
- 4:00You hear from experts and others who have important information to share on legislation.
- 4:06So it's I think interims are a very very important, an important part
- 4:12of the legislative process. And plus the regular session can sometimes be a circus.
- 4:15I mean, let's face it, where do you got everybody coming there
- 4:18and you know, the different interest groups and so on, and saying lobbyists
- 4:21and so on. Stright, it's a little bit mine and it's and I
- 4:25say that in the most respectful way possible, But but it is a time
- 4:29when you have these interims that you can actually said, do a little bit
- 4:30more of a deep dive and kind of concentrate and sometimes maybe not as many
- 4:34issues coming at you at once too. You can you can just tackle a
- 4:38couple of the big issue of course, Chris, that's been been discussed and
- 4:42discussed and discussed again, is this crisis in the correctional systems? Are we
- 4:46are we making any headway here? Because we got to do something, man,
- 4:50Because I absolutely have to do something, and my preference would be to
- 4:56call a special session. To me, it's it's fairly straightforward as to what
- 5:00reforms we can do. I think certainly increasing to pay for these individuals who
- 5:03are working in corrections, I think that goes a long way. I mean,
- 5:06individuals being compensated appropriately is a way you can certainly encourage people to go
- 5:13into a certain profession. I mean, it's just it's basic economics. The
- 5:17more you pay somebody, the more likely it is that they're going to do
- 5:19a job. I mean that's the reason. For example, individuals who oftentimes
- 5:26work in dangerous jobs get paid more. They get paid Moreno all mining,
- 5:30construction, other jobs that potentially could be dangerous. People go into these fields
- 5:34and they're compensated more because of the danger. That's that's with it. And
- 5:40you have to pay people more to do difficult jobs. That's just the nature.
- 5:44That's basic economics. Job, especially when you're taking your life in your
- 5:46own hands as you are as a correctional facility pretty much every day correctional officer.
- 5:50Absolutely so, I'm certainly, as you know, very much a small
- 5:56government kind of god. There have been several budgets that I've against since i've
- 6:00been in office, and because I didn't think it cut government enough and cut
- 6:04spending enough. But at the same time, it's not that you can't just
- 6:09completely cut your way out of everything in There are certain areas where you certainly
- 6:13do need to compensate people more to make sure that we get people into certain
- 6:18jobs. I mean, it's a crisis. My preference would be that we
- 6:21would in fact call a special session to address this. I would call on
- 6:27the leadership of the legislature as well as the governor to work together so we
- 6:31can get that done. Governor said yesterday that he was not necessarily in favor
- 6:35of a special session, but things can change, so we'll see what happens
- 6:39here. Okay, just a couple of weeks ago, you announced that you
- 6:41would be seeking the office of West Virginia's Secretary of State in twenty twenty four.
- 6:45Mac Warner, current holder of the office, is not running for reelection,
- 6:48opting instead to run for governor. First, the very broad question,
- 6:51Chris, and then will get specific, why do you want to be Secretary
- 6:55of State. One of the things that I really want to focus on a
- 6:58secretary of State is building upon the success of Secretary Warner with a lot of
- 7:03the really great electoral reforms that he's pushed through. He's done an outstanding job
- 7:08as Secretary of State. I want to build upon that and build upon the
- 7:12success of his team. I think it's very important that we continue to move
- 7:15ahead. I think ensuring and improving upon the gains that we've seen in that
- 7:23office in recent years is very, very important. And it's important because we
- 7:27want to have an assurance that everybody has complete faith in the system. And
- 7:32I'll say it this way. One of the things that was often said in
- 7:36the past is that all politics is local. And to some extent, I
- 7:42think that's true. But to another extent, I think the opposite of that
- 7:46is also true, and that I think all elections on some level have become
- 7:50national. And when I say that, what I mean is when people hear
- 7:54about things in Arizona or Georgia or in other states, it has an impact
- 8:00on us here in West Virginia. It has an impact on how things are
- 8:03perceived. So, for example, if people are hearing about problems with an
- 8:09election down in Arizona or in other places, it could really have an impact
- 8:13in terms of, for example, whether somebody actually goes out and votes.
- 8:16I think it can have an impac even though there aren't problems in West even
- 8:20though there aren't problems in West Virginia. And so that's one of the things
- 8:24that I think we really need to take into account. For example, if
- 8:28you look at what happened in a lot of congressional elections throughout the country,
- 8:33I think that Republicans probably didn't do as well as many would have thought.
- 8:37And I think part of that could be perceptions about what happened in twenty and
- 8:43twenty that a certain subset of the population has lost faith in the system as
- 8:48a whole, that we're going to have elections that operate in the correct way,
- 8:54but in West Virginia. And I understand Chris completely what you're saying.
- 8:56But if, well, if West Virginians are already in West Virginia, as
- 9:01you said, what Secretary Wander, we're actually doing things right? I mean,
- 9:05what do we need to do in West Virginia to assure people? I
- 9:07mean, is it more a this may or may not happen in other states,
- 9:11but it's not happening here. What would you do to assure West Virginia
- 9:15isay, hey, we're fine here. Well, several things and I think
- 9:18in terms of making sure individuals, for example, who may have set out
- 9:22the last election, I think there are several things that we could do.
- 9:24I think one thing that I would like to see is that I would like
- 9:28to see and this would be from the top, from the Secretary of State's
- 9:33office. I would like to see randomly selected precincts. Okay, they wouldn't
- 9:37they would be they wouldn't be hand picked. They would be randomly selected for
- 9:39a hand recount. So, for example, if a precinct in Monengalia County
- 9:46got randomly selected, there would be a hand recount, and then what people
- 9:48could do is they could compare and contrast, and they could look at what
- 9:52the official tally was versus what the hand recount said. And then if we
- 9:56have several of those, I think that would assure a lot of people that
- 10:01there aren't any kind of problems. Now, certainly we do have hand recounts
- 10:05that are are done and administered by the County Commission on that level, but
- 10:11this would be a little bit different. It would be randomly selected ones from
- 10:15the Secretary of States office. And how would those be select I mean they're
- 10:18random about how somebody's got to select them. I mean sure, well,
- 10:20for example, you could just a computer or something could have a computer,
- 10:24you could have you could you could draw balls out of okay as to what
- 10:28specific precincts are going to be selected. So that's that's one thing I would
- 10:31like to see. Okay, Um, I'm going to get away from elections
- 10:35just for a moment, because that is the sexy part of the Secretary of
- 10:37States Office, which everybody kind of factors it in. But business and licensing
- 10:41is a is a bigger part of the office. I mean that there's more
- 10:45employees in the When I worked there, it was called the B and L
- 10:48division. When you have a lot more people in B and L than what
- 10:50you do in elections and whatever. Uh. And I didn't realize this until
- 10:56I actually went to work there, Chris. The things that the Secretary of
- 10:58State's Office does, I mean, I thought it's elections, but it's business
- 11:03licensing, it's charitable things. If you want to be the person who marries
- 11:05someone, you know that the conducts the ceremony that goes through the Secretary of
- 11:11States office. If you're part of an h a homeowners association that goes through
- 11:15the Secretary of States Office, that when you see the governor sign a bill,
- 11:20that's just ceremonial. It doesn't mean anything until it goes to the Secretary
- 11:22of State's office. So are you prepared? And I know you've got time
- 11:26because the campaigns the season is not officially even here yet. Have you've done
- 11:30your homework you starting to do? Not completed yet? Are you starting to
- 11:33do your homework to get ready for all the other aspects besides elections. Absolutely.
- 11:37And I've been in communications with the Secretary of States office team there.
- 11:41They have offered for me to come and talk with them and learn more about
- 11:48the office, and I'm going to be doing that in the future, and
- 11:52I think that's certainly something that we want to do, is look at that.
- 11:56I will say this though, in terms of the business registration part,
- 11:58I mean I think the office, from what I can tell, I think
- 12:01it's operating great. I think we do an awesome job with business registrations and
- 12:09anything like that. Now, there is one small thing that I would like
- 12:11to do that I think would be very very important in it would be a
- 12:16way that we could really improve upon things in the state of West Virginia.
- 12:20And this would require a statutory change but I would like to have a change
- 12:26in how we do documents that are foyed. So, for example, anybody
- 12:30can fo you a document just for clarification. Freedom of freedom of information is
- 12:35basically what that means. That is correct, okay, And so with a
- 12:37few exceptions, anybody can request documents from any state agency, any governmental entity.
- 12:45And so one of the things that I would like to see is in
- 12:46terms of transparency, and I think transparency is incredibly important. I would like
- 12:52to have a process in which individuals, and it would be completely voluntary.
- 12:56If documents are foyed, there could be a registration process at the Secretary of
- 13:01State's office. The Secretary of State part of its Bailey Bailey Wick and what
- 13:05it does is it's the official custodian of the definition of the office absolutely.
- 13:09And so what we would do is we would have a process in which somebody
- 13:15could voluntarily have documents registered with the Secretary of State's office, so that if,
- 13:20for example, if somebody believes that there's some sort of impropriety going on
- 13:26at for example, a city or any kind of county office or the state
- 13:33and they want those documents preserved for posterity, they could register it with a
- 13:37Secretary Secretary of States office, and it could be publicly. So being proactive
- 13:41as opposed to reactive as what you're absolutely because what happens a lot of times
- 13:46is somebody will for you some documents. There, there will be a news
- 13:48article about it, there might be a couple of lines on it, and
- 13:50then it just sort of goes away. This way we can ensure accountability going
- 13:56into the future. I mean, these are public documents. They're they're out
- 14:01there, and if somebody wants to register those documents with the Secretary of States
- 14:05Office, they should be able to do that. And again it would be
- 14:07voluntary. They wouldn't have to do it right, but if they choose to,
- 14:11they could. They could do it right. Because I think government transparency
- 14:13is incredibly important. I think it makes makes people feel more confident in this
- 14:18system. It holds people accounting me accountable, And that's what I'd like to
- 14:22see. Talker to Chris Pritt before we wrap it up. We know a
- 14:26gentleman named Ken Reid entered the race for or Now so he was going to
- 14:30run on the Republican side. A couple of days ago. Or Secretary of
- 14:31State, Putnam County Clerk Bryan Woods, and now he's going to ride.
- 14:35I'm here, and there's a few other names they're going to be out there,
- 14:37still plenty of time. What sets Chris Pritt apart from all these because
- 14:41Iain Macwarner was not going to run for reelection, so regardless, it's going
- 14:45to be a new face in the Secretary of State's office. What sets Chris
- 14:48Prett apart in your opinion? Well, two things. Number One, As
- 14:50you know, Dave, I've never shied away from any issue. I'm often
- 14:54at the forefront of major issues. People know where I stand. They know
- 14:58where I am. The people here in Kana County, in the surrounding areas
- 15:01where they've listened to me on your show, they've heard it for years.
- 15:05I tell people exactly how it is. And more important than that is the
- 15:09fact that I have a voting record that shows who I am. I mean,
- 15:13if you look at my voting record, I've never shied away from any
- 15:16kind of issues. I've always tried to do what I think is the right
- 15:20thing. And what I think sets me apart is I believe that my views
- 15:24are very consistent with the people of West Virginia, and I have a voting
- 15:28record to back that up. People don't have to wonder where I stand on
- 15:31an issue or whether I'm going to do what I say that I'm going to
- 15:35do. I say exactly what I'm gonna do. I tell people exactly what
- 15:39I think, and I think that sets me apart. I've got a record
- 15:43to back it up. All right? Where can people learn more? If
- 15:46you get your got a website? Facebook? Where you got I've got Facebook,
- 15:50It's at Pritt for the People, Twitter at Pritt for the People,

- 19:27General and goobernatorial candidate Patrick Morrissey. Good morning, sir. How are you.
- 19:32I am doing great, David's good to be with you today. Great
- 19:34to have you here, sir. Now, of course, your candidate for
- 19:37governor. We're gonna get to that a little bit later on, but I
- 19:38want to talk about a couple of things in your office. First, you
- 19:42and a couple of other Attorney generals are going after the almighty Google machine.
- 19:49Why get involved in that and what's the story here? Sir? Yeah,
- 19:52absolutely so. I think a lot of people know that we've had a lot
- 19:56of concerns about big tech in terms of many of their activities and especially with
- 20:03respect to some of the antitrust issues that have been out there, and so
- 20:08we've been talking with a lot of our attorneys general from across the country,
- 20:12and in fact and talked a couple of years ago, but the possibility of
- 20:17really looking at what Google was doing on their key digital advertising technology chiefs and
- 20:25specifically how they're adding and a lot of publishers that depend on some of the
- 20:30ads and the advertisers. So we looked at that and we concluded that we
- 20:37thought there were allegations against Google that deserves to be pursued, and that they
- 20:42were anti competitive and exclusionary in nature in terms of eliminating some of their ad
- 20:49tech competitors through acquisitions and other tactics. And so when you do that,
- 20:56we believe the price of advertising goes up. And so we thought that this
- 21:00was an antitrust violation and we're pleased to work with a group of states on
- 21:04that to really get to the bottom of this. Now, interestingly, we
- 21:08had looked at these issues a little while ago, but we had concluded that,
- 21:15you know, we have to come together with a big group of states
- 21:19to do it, to leverage our resources. So we're part of a group
- 21:22of sixteen states going after these advertising processes because once again we think that there
- 21:30may be anti competitive in nature. Well, I can tell you're not going
- 21:33to get much argument for those in the broadcasting community and the newspaper business.
- 21:37I can tell you that, Attorney David, I think there's local lawsuits from
- 21:42some of the newspapers on very similar issues that there's been anti competitive conduct,
- 21:48and I'm curious to see how all this is going to play out. I
- 21:56agree with that. I mean, all all people in the media want in
- 21:57that respect is a level playing field, and it's simply not the way it
- 22:02is now. The big story, I guess from your offices weeks are had
- 22:06to be the Women's Health Center of West Virginia dropped its lawsuit challenging the constitutionality
- 22:11of West Virginia's abortion law. Why did they drop that, in your opinion,
- 22:18and what's the story here? Well, they dropped this apparently we received
- 22:23the notice, and we think it may very well be because one of the
- 22:27doctors is not going to be working with the clinic anymore. So they're probably
- 22:33going to be soon out shopping for another doctor who can work at the clinic.
- 22:37But when we see this usually in order to file a lawsuit, you
- 22:41need to have standing in order to pursue arguments, and so I'm not going
- 22:48to predict what will ultimately happen, whether they will reinitiate a lawsuit, but
- 22:52we're pleased that they voluntarily dropped it because I think the way that the complaint
- 22:57is structured right now, they wouldn't be able to allege the harm that they
- 23:03were originally contending. So you know, this is not over. We have
- 23:07multiple lawsuits. We're gonna have to continue to defend the state laws. But
- 23:12it's certainly a relief. Every time someone offers to voluntarily dismiss a case and
- 23:18it's stopped being challenged, that means that we're saving precious life, and I
- 23:22think that's a great thing. So we wanted to make sure we let people
- 23:27know about that that happened earlier in the week. There are a couple other
- 23:32issues that are going on now. We have the lawsuit from the abortion manufacturer,
- 23:37and so we're going to have an argument in court coming up on that
- 23:40very soon. There are also some issues pending at the US Supreme Court,
- 23:45and I think that's critical that that's going to get resolved probably the next week
- 23:49as well. Talking about Attorney General Patrick Morrissey, who is now a candidate
- 23:53for governor of the state of West Virginia. Patrick Morrisey, you're officially in
- 23:56now broad question do you want to be governor? You know, Dave,
- 24:03part of the reason I want to be governor is that I'm the only proven
- 24:06conservatives with a record of getting big things done for West Virginia, moving the
- 24:11needle or the things that West Virginians care about. So I want to make
- 24:15sure that we're going to put more take home pay in people's pockets, supercharge
- 24:22our economy and our revenues. I want to make sure that we're really going
- 24:27after a workforce participation in growing those numbers. I think about the challenges in
- 24:33West Virginia with our standard of living and ensuring that we're going to have more
- 24:40dollars in people's pocket, and I say, who's the best person to take
- 24:44on the big challenges, whether they be issues pertaining to education, they're issues
- 24:49relating to taxes, or just generally keeping the woke ideas out of West Virginia.
- 24:55And you have to look at the only person of the group who's been
- 24:57able to get big things for West Virginia, and so I believe it's a
- 25:03natural transition to move from attorney general to governor because no one else is going
- 25:08to be able to say they've been there, they've done that, and they're
- 25:12prepared for the fights ahead. We've taken on a lot of the big national
- 25:18folks when they try to come in and hurt West Virginia, and no one
- 25:22else can say that. So when they're going to be big fights on the
- 25:26horizon to help West Virginia grow and help her reach of potential, to ensure
- 25:30that we're driving that workforce participation rate up and driving that population up and keeping
- 25:37the bad ideas out of our state. Only one person's been able to do
- 25:40that successfully in the past, and I want to build on my record as
- 25:45age as the state's next governor. And I agree with you on the workforce
- 25:48participation. I mean, it's just absolutely pathetic what we have in West Virginia.
- 25:53We're talking about able bodied people that can go to work that for one
- 25:57reason another choose not to and then want everyone else to support them. I
- 26:00get that. What can a governor do about that, though, sir,
- 26:04you know it's interesting. A governor, I think to do a lot.
- 26:07And let's start with a basic premise right now, there are so many different
- 26:11entities that badly need workers. You hear about it in the context of the
- 26:17state corrections officers, you hear it in the context of private sector. So
- 26:22many people are looking for individuals who to help them with their employment. I
- 26:29look at this and I say, we have sixty five thousand open jobs here
- 26:33in West Virginia. One of the things we can do is better let people
- 26:37know in state and outside the state about those jobs, and we can begin
- 26:44to better place people in all the jobs around West Virginia. And that's not
- 26:48been done at the best possible level in the past. So I think we
- 26:52can change that. And imagine if we could fill ten thousand of those sixty
- 26:57five thousand jobs. Let's happens economically, We're going to grow aggressively, and
- 27:03we're going to be able to take that added tax revenue that comes in for
- 27:07more people being on the payrolls, and then we can reinvest it backs for
- 27:12additional lower taxes, or to make sure that we have a broader school choice
- 27:18program, money following the child. These are incredible things we can do just
- 27:22by literally being effective at how we're advertising and marketing and letting people know about
- 27:30these jobs, and also putting other systems in place to make it easier to
- 27:34fill those jobs. Some of the regulatory changes that we can make will make
- 27:38it easier for people to come in and to get jobs that today might require
- 27:44much more onerous licensing requirements. So I'm going to be gathering a list of
- 27:48every single regulation that exists in the state right now. That's one of the
- 27:52things I'll do as governor. We're going to look through which ones are reasonable,
- 27:56which ones we can do without. And I think that's also going to
- 28:00help a lot because that tends to attract more people to the next And of
- 28:04course, you know, you're somebody in the in your role as Attorney general,
- 28:10UM and I have you on, you know, to talk about the
- 28:11different things that you've got going on in your office that has worked with in
- 28:15many many cases. When we hear you talk about you've joined a coalition with
- 28:19other states as attorney general to fight this or to go against that or whatever.
- 28:23A lot of times these are bipartisan, you know they're not. These
- 28:26aren't just Republicans. These are Democrats that you're having to work with now.
- 28:29Granted, under the Gold Dome in Charleston, we don't have a heck of
- 28:32a lot of Democrats. We were now down one more effective on Tuesday,
- 28:36I get Monday or Tuesday of this week, I guess. But but you
- 28:38started to work with a lot of people. And one of the problems with
- 28:41the Republican Party, and it doesn't matter who the party is, when you
- 28:45have that many people, eventually you're gonna have divisions within the party. Are
- 28:48you prepared to work with people um in the legislature that maybe you've had an
- 28:53issue or with or has had an issue with you at some point, Well,
- 28:57well, most certainly we want to work with people who want to move
- 29:00West Virginia hoards and want to make the state successful. Right, So,
- 29:04if you're talking about someone who wants to bring West Virginia back, or who
- 29:08is trying to advance socialist ideas, or they're trying to harm our citizens,
- 29:15no, those are not people that you're going to work with. But most
- 29:18of the people who come to Charleston, I think, are trying to do
- 29:21positive things for the state. And so you want to identify at the beginning,
- 29:26what are the principles that bind us? And I know those principles,
- 29:32but what you want to do is articulate them to the legislature when it comes
- 29:36in and then the positions that you have as the governor, and work with
- 29:41them to come up with a common agenda. And I think that's really important
- 29:45and you're going to see that happen a lot more when I become governor,
- 29:48that we're going to bring people in, we're going to work to have that
- 29:51agenda, and then we're gonna go off and we're going to make sure that
- 29:55agenda passes. And when people try to diverge from the agenda after they originally
- 30:00agreed upon what's going to be moving, we're not going to let that happen.
- 30:04We're going to be pushing very aggressively, but it's going to be collaborative
- 30:08with the legislature after you go through the principles. Now, look, they're
- 30:14eight eighty nine people right now. I'm sure that there could be real divergence
- 30:19in the positions that people have, but I think it's critical to talk about
- 30:25the issues up front and try to get consensus. That doesn't mean all eighty
- 30:30eight people have to agree, but it means you're going to be bringing them
- 30:33in. They'll be part of the process and You're going to outline what are
- 30:37the best things to advance to help West Virginia improve its standard of living,
- 30:42to grow in terms of educational attainment, to increase workforce participation and population in
- 30:49West Virginia, to protect our West Virginia conservative values. And if people are
- 30:55on the same page on that, we can get even more done than we've
- 30:59been able to see over the last few decades. Attorney General and candidate for
- 31:03Governor, Patrick Morrissey, good luck, sir, and we will talk soon.

- 36:16Hurricane. Mayor Scott Edwards is with us. Good morning, sir, how
- 36:19are you? Good morning? How are you doing today? Well? I'm
- 36:22doing fine, may now, Okay, earlier we had on Chris Pritt,
- 36:24who's attend a candidate for secretary of State. We had Attorney General Patrick Morrissey,
- 36:28who's running for governor. Now is the opportunity for Mayor Scott Edwards to
- 36:31announce that he is running for president? Well, I think I'll just run
- 36:37from mayor again. Okay, right, fair enough. You're happy there in
- 36:40Htown, right, you're not ready to be watching again? Absolutely happy and
- 36:45Hurricane I'm extreme. We have here and taking care of take care of ourselves.
- 36:49Normally we reserve Monday for our Mayor's but because it's you and because we
- 36:52have some good things we wanted to talk about in Hurricane, I thought i'd
- 36:53give you the opportunity this morning. Several things going on in Hurricane. One
- 37:00of those is, uh you're this new fire station. You're about to open
- 37:02this and you're having an open house to talk about the fire station. Yeah.
- 37:06So, uh so, we we just opened our rand new fire station.
- 37:09It replaced a forty eight year old fire station. It was on Main
- 37:12Street and Hurricane and you know, with the with the area growing like it
- 37:15is, you know, we wanted to go ahead and build something that would
- 37:19that would you know, last a long time. You know, this is
- 37:21one hundred year build to six million dollars fire station. Um, you know,
- 37:25it's bigger than what we need today. But in ten years, twenty
- 37:29thirty, forty years, it's you know, it's gonna take care of us
- 37:31with the growth and everything. So we're having an open the Saturday from two
- 37:37to five pm. And this is station tours. There will be you know,
- 37:40bounce houses and we're giving away free Scraggle pop fun for kids and families
- 37:46and just take a tour of the station. Uh, you know, talk
- 37:50to the firefighters, you know, get on the fire truck to do everything.
- 37:54Just learn a lot fire department and and also you know we are a
- 37:58paid, a volunteer fire department, so there will be people there to talk
- 38:02to you if you if people want to want to volunteer, hey, that's
- 38:07great and no experience necessary. Well, and we all know that our fire
- 38:10departments across America, specifically you're in West Virginia, are struggling with numbers right
- 38:15now. So if you're interested in this sort of thing, would be a
- 38:17good opportunity to come down. Where is the fire station to physically located?
- 38:22For those that may only vaguely be familiar with Hurricane, what's the best way
- 38:24to describe where it is? Yes, if you know where Hurricane Middle School
- 38:28with, it's a couple of hundred yards past the Hurricane Middle School on the
- 38:30right, so it's on Midland Trail, easy to find, easy found.
- 38:34We're talking with the Hurricane Mayor, Scott Edwards here on five AD Live.
- 38:37Now, you're also doing something I understand called a Sensory Friendly First Responders Night.
- 38:42What is that all about? Yeah, so this month is Autism Awareness
- 38:45Month and we've we've declared that as well and Hurricane and so it's a Sensory
- 38:51Friendly first Responder meet and greet which is April the twenty fifth, from six
- 38:55to eight pm at the new fire station. So that evening we'll have you
- 39:00know, we'll have police, firefighters, other first reports will there and they
- 39:05will meet and Greek kids, you know, those with autism and their families
- 39:09and and and it's all century friendly. It's very important that those with autism,
- 39:15you know, are able to know, you know, what a firefighter,
- 39:19what a police officer or what ems you know, what look like,
- 39:22how they would act to them, you know, in an emergency. It's
- 39:25extremely important that they learn, you know, learn and see this early.
- 39:30And that's what we'd like to do. And I also understand you got your
- 39:32big Spring Festival coming up on May six. That's always a big deal in
- 39:37Hurricane. Yeah, main Street Springs Festival is huge. It's one pm to
- 39:40five pm on Main Street. Lots of vendors will be there, carnival theme
- 39:45games, inflatables, all kinds of stuff will be there. Main Street will
- 39:49be shut down. It's a free event for everybody. And big shout out
- 39:52to a man to Ramy. She coordinates uh the Spring Festival and all of
- 39:57our events and Hurricane and and it'll it'll be an other hit, just as
- 40:00it always has been. And a couple other things where we let you go.
- 40:02This um Meeks Mountain Trail. I think the last time you were on
- 40:06the show you may have talked about that. I've had other folks on the
- 40:07show talk about the Meeks Mountain Trail. This trail is getting national attention.
- 40:13I know Senator Joe Manchin was in the area not long ago and U and
- 40:16actually had a chance to toward the trail. I mean people are literally coming
- 40:20from all over the country and probably some cases all over the world to Putnham
- 40:23County for the Meeks Mountain Trail. What exactly is it and why are people
- 40:29so excited about it? Well, you know you mentioned Senator Manson's He's been
- 40:32here a few times now talking specifically about that trail system. So it's around
- 40:38thirty miles of trails on about eight hundred acres that the Meeks family have donated
- 40:45for this use, and shout out to the Meeks family. But it is
- 40:47a trail system from mountain bikes, hikers, runners, walkers, and you
- 40:53are absolutely right. We get people from not just not just Hurricane and Putnham
- 40:58County, not just West Virginia, but all over the country will come by
- 41:01to see Meeks Mountain Trails. Um. It's it's absolutely wonderful. You get
- 41:07out in the woods. Uh, there's different trail systems you can get on.
- 41:10You know, you can, you can do something. I just a
- 41:13couple of nights ago, I did the Red White Trail, which was three
- 41:15point two miles of five K No big deal. There's some other trails that
- 41:21man, these bikers, mountain bikers absolutely amazing. A lot of technical aspects
- 41:25of the trail system. But what's unique it's all hand done. There's been
- 41:30thousands and how many thousands and thousands of hours of volunteering over the last four
- 41:37four or four and a half years UM. So it's all done by hand.
- 41:40So these these volunteers and it's all volunteer. They built the trails,
- 41:45they maintain the trails. It's just a phenomenal it's really a gem of Hurricane.
- 41:50You know, we have a gym that sits right here in Hurricane and
- 41:53we see people from all over all. Indeed you do. And that's gym
- 41:58with a with a G, not when ye. Yeah, well it's gee
- 42:01and not g y. That's what I'm trying to correct. You have a
- 42:06couple of gyms too, though, I mean around the area. All right,
- 42:07let's go back and let's wrap it up here by going back and talking
- 42:10about this open house that you got going on on Saturday with the fire station.
- 42:13Communities invited out to talk about them. Absolutely, the whole community's invited
- 42:17out. Bring your kids, if you don't have kids, just the adult
- 42:20come. But it's station tours and we'll have some giveaways that type of thing.
- 42:24Bounce out to the kids and scraggle pop. You had me at scragglepop.
- 42:29Man, Yeah, scraggle pop. Yes, we'll save you back.
- 42:31We'll save you back, you scraggle pop. But it's two pm to five
- 42:34pm after Neue fire station located just past Creak in middle school on the right.
- 42:37Can't visit all right, May are always good stuff going on there in

- 46:36you didn't hear it from me, Well, I don't know who me
- 46:38is, so you didn't hear it from me. But I'm hearing says a
- 46:42texture that former State Senator Kenny Mann is also going to run for Secretary of
- 46:46States. I was told that by someone. I do not know mister Man
- 46:51perfectly. I do remember when he did run or when he was a member
- 46:53of the state Senate. I do not know him personally. I do know
- 46:58the name. But someone actually told me that a day or so ago that
- 47:00he's considering a run for secretary. But I mean again, you got to
- 47:02understand that when you got State Auditor J. B. Mccuski, who is
- 47:06running for governor, you got Secretary of State Mike Warner that is running.
- 47:09You got our treasure Riley Moore is seeking a higher office too, That all
- 47:15these offices except for the ad Commissioner and Kent Leonhardt actually did consider a run
- 47:20for governor, I'm told, but decided to say where he is. Come
- 47:22unless some of them change their mind, which could happen. I mean,
- 47:28come, January twenty twenty five. Other. I mean, mister Leonhardt is
- 47:31going to be the only one that knows where the good toilet papers captain the
- 47:37capital and those all those offices. He's going to be the only one.
- 47:39But some of those people may not run. That's what I'm being told.
- 47:43I have been told by several people a lot more knowledgeable than I am,
- 47:47that it's all about I mean, as I said earlier this week, and
- 47:51I've said time to time again, it's all about money when it comes to
- 47:53the governor's races and what other outside groups are going to get involved. And
- 47:59of course I've not even talked about Senator Joe Manchin and what he's going to
- 48:01do and how will that affect people possibly run for his office. More than
- 48:05that, In a couple of months, I got to knock out some of
- 48:07these texts tech says, where can someone in Kanawa County find a good job?
- 48:10Well, they're everywhere, They're everywhere, But the problem is a lot
- 48:14of people they want to they're not willing to start at the bottom and work
- 48:16their way up. Now, I know, if you're fifty five years old
- 48:20and you're getting that age like I am, that it is a little hard,
- 48:22you know, to say, I'm going to start at the bottom at
- 48:24fifty five. But there there are jobs of plenty everywhere. Text says,
- 48:31West Virginia economy is forty eighth. We are not the biggest loser. According
- 48:35to a text or, well there is that Texas, one of the great
- 48:38mayoral jobs in the state has been done by Mayor Edwards of Hurricane. He's
- 48:42evolved in every aspect of the community. Texts tech says, note that Hurrican
- 48:50Mayor Scott Edwards doesn't lie about fighting for you, but instead talks about actual
- 48:53services and amenities offered in his city. To all, that's what a public
- 48:59servant sounds like, according to a text, are right, Let's go back
- 49:01to state politics for a moment. To a story posted the website by Brad
- 49:05mcahenny, the governor is going after Congressman Alex Mooney for all intensive purposes,
- 49:09who will more than likely be Jim Justice's primary opponent next year. If well,
- 49:15we know Mooney's in if the governor decided you're run quote from our governor
- 49:21quote, I am glad that some of our legislators know that Alex Mooney is
- 49:27somewhere remotely connected to West Virginia. I mean, who in the world and
- 49:30the state of what Virginia knows that Alex Mooney is a West Virginian. I
- 49:35mean, the truth of the matter is Alex Mooney is from Maryland and absolutely,
- 49:38teetotally in every way connected to Maryland. End quote. As a quote
- 49:43from your Governor Jim Justice were going on to say, quote, I've seen
- 49:46him one time in the meantime end quote. So he says I've seen him
- 49:52one time now in the meantime. For his part, now, Congressman Mooney
- 49:57fired back with photographs and dates were he and the governor we're in meetings and
- 50:05even appeared on stage together. So I one hand, the Governor Justice is
- 50:08saying, I don't know the guy. I've never never met him or only
- 50:12been around h a couple of times. And Mooney's people fireback, what oh,
- 50:14here, here's a picture. Here, here's us together, here's us
- 50:16in a meeting together, Here's where we were. So I don't know.
- 50:20I will say this though, this one is definitely going to get ugly.
- 50:23It's already gotten ugly. We ain't even to January twenty twenty four yet.
- 50:28Should Governor Justice decide to run and quite frankly, I think he will.
- 50:36One of the many interesting aspects of this race is going to be and I'm
- 50:40just talking about Republicans now, let's put Senator Mansion on the sidelines for a
- 50:45moment. It is my suspicion that a lot of Republicans will not support Jim
- 50:53Justice. So that could divide the part somewhat because a primary battle between Governor
- 51:05Justice and now Congressman Alex Mooney, as I said earlier, is going to
- 51:07be ugly, make no mistake about it. So then whomever wins there,
- 51:14you got to get the team back together again for the general to run against
- 51:20Senator Manchett. That's if Joe Mansion runs. So there's a lot of bad
- 51:27blood between the governor and certain members of the Republican Party. And it's not
- 51:34because Governor Justice was a Democrat that switched to Republican. It angered a lot
- 51:37of Democrats, of course, but a lot of it has to do with
- 51:40the amendment battle, of the tax battle and so on and so forth.
- 51:43And I feel there are going to be some prominent Republicans in West Virginia that
- 51:49will not support Jim Justice if he beats Alex Mooney in the primary. I'm
- 51:53not saying they're necessarily going to go out and support Joe Mansion, but it's
- 52:00gonna be interest. Five Ready Live has been brought to you, parted by
