- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Building the Best You, a destination for you to reimagine what is possible in your life and then create it.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the show, everybody.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Gene Collins, and today we have Jocelyn Frank coming on the show.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: And guys, she's in Thailand.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Oh my goodness, that is so on my bucket list.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: I cannot wait to talk about Thailand.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: But we're also going to talk about what she does.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: She has a business called Wild Womb, and she is a yoga specialist, and she really specializes in helping women with pelvic floor, period cramps, hormonal cramps, all the things.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Let's call them women issues.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: So, Jess, welcome to the show.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: I'm so, so honored to be here.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, thank you.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: We're gonna have so much fun.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: All right, before we dive into what in the world are you doing in Thailand, can you share a little bit about your background, who you are, how you got to be an entrepreneur doing what you're doing now?
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Where do I start?
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, I used to work a nine to five job.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: I was a graphic designer.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: I studied art and design at university.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: So sometimes I wake up and I'm like, wait, how did I get here?
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: And then I switched to yoga therapy.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: I I've always lived abroad.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: I know we'll get into that later, but I I moved to London.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: I lived there for about six years and I worked in fashion.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: And I think that's when I kind of reflected on a lot of things about my life that weren't working or, you know, decided I needed to take a different path.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I kind of switched from someone who was kind of focused on making money, buying lots of clothes, having a nice place, nine to five, moving up the so the corporate ladder to this like kind of holistic healing, holistic wellness.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: And I still am a little bit like, wow, how the hell did that happen?
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Where did that shift happen?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: So, but did something happen while you were because I've had a lot of guests come on that like make that big shift.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: And a lot of times it's like a health scare or a death or some big like aha happens that makes them kind of take a look at their life and say, oh wow, I just don't think I can do this anymore.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: And then they make a major shift.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Did you have that or did it happen in a different way?
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Actually, like feel I have shivers and can when you ask that question.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: It's such a good question.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Like, there's this quote that comes to mind.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: I think it's from women who run with wolves.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: And it's like, go out into the woods, go into the deep, dark woods.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: If you don't, nothing will happen and your life will never begin.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: I think that was the switch for me is I hit this rock bottom.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: And I had this conversation with my friend on the weekend.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: And she was like, What did you just say?
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: I was like, I love rock bottoms.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: I love them because they're transformation points.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: They're fire element.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: They're like when you realize you've got to make a change in your life and it's a gift.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: And she's like, I've never heard anyone say that.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: But that was, yeah, that was the point for me.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: It was like a rock bottom, I would call it, because things were not working in my life.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Uh, from the outside, it looked great.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: I had a great job.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: I was living overseas, you know, I had a partner, but things started to fall apart.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: I wasn't feeling healthy.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: I had terrible period pain.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: And I never got a diagnose, but it was severe, like it was ruining my life.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: PMS, which I hate saying that word because we don't have a syndrome, but I had just my emotions were just all over the place, and I wasn't connected to them at all.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: I was not confident.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: I was really insecure.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: I had anxiety, I had depression, and I was taking medication for everything because that's all that I knew was I can go to a doctor, I can go to a talk therapist.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: And so that was me.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: And it just reached this point where I was like, okay, this is not working.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: I feel like a zombie.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: That's the only thing I would repeat.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: I feel like a zombie, I feel like a zombie, I don't know what to do.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: So that for me was like the turning point where I was like, I need to do something differently.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: I don't know what, but I need to change something.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: So, how did you decide what to do?
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Where did you turn?
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: So things, it wasn't like overnight.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Things just kept gradually getting worse till I was in a horrible relationship with someone who was abusive.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: And I that caused me to come back to Thailand.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: I had been there before, but this was different because I was like out of options.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Like, where do I go?
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: What do I do?
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: I need to sort my shit out.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: I need to, can I swear I'm here?
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: Yes, I need to like figure everything out.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I that was like the rock, rock bottom, I would say.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: And I came to Thailand and I sat in this bungalow, which I pass all the time, which is so funny because I'm like, I remember that bungalow.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: I sat in this bungalow and I closed the curtains and I just sat in darkness for days and days because I was like, I just need to sit with myself.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: I need to figure out, yeah.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: And it wasn't even like I was depressed in that moment.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: I was kind of like, I need to just sit with myself, like seriously.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: And I came out of that dark little bungalow and I went to every healing modality you can possibly imagine.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Because I'm on this island and there's everything here.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: So I just I didn't know what I was doing.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: I was like, I'm not taking my medication anymore.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I'm not doing my talk therapy.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: Not that there's anything wrong with talk therapy, but I just was in a stuck in a loop.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: And I just started going to everything and things started to unfold from there.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: And so it's sort of like I love as you're saying that because one of the cool things I think about Thailand is that there are so many modalities there, you know, like there's so much to do, right?
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Eat pray love has exposed everybody to the concept of what happened to Dhailand.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: You want to learn how to meditate, you want to do all the like go there.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: You can check it out, right?
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: And plus it's beautiful.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: So, how did you land on yoga therapy?
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: I tried everything that didn't work.
- 6:32unknown: Yeah.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: I want to stress that.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: When I say I tried everything, it doesn't mean it was good.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: I tried a lot of things that were done by people who were really not professional, who were not trauma informed, who re-traumatized me.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: I had terrible PTSD at the time, and I didn't even know really what PTSD was.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is how lost I was.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: And I know now I was like, oh my God, like I cannot believe I was experiencing that.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: So through trying everything, finally I went to this very and this lovely woman who I'm still connected with today.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: She had a woman's circle, but it was like womb yoga.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: And I was like, what the hell is this?
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Like, this is insane.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: And just some of the things she was doing, they were so simple, but like nobody had ever said them to me.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Like, I'll never forget she had us like massage our jaw at the beginning of the class.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: And my jaw, there was so much tension and it was tingling.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: And she was talking about the connection of the meridians from your throat chakra to your uterus.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: And I was like, what?
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: Like, this is insane.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Like, I'd been to yoga for 10 over 10 years, and nobody had ever talked about my womb, my feminine body.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: So that I finally found something where I was like, okay, this is really cool.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: And so then I stuck with that and I started going to those sorts of classes and gatherings.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: So I know you specialize in pelvic health, right?
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: So for people who don't even know what that is, can you describe what pelvic health even is?
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: So from a spiritual perspective, actually, maybe I'm gonna start with this.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: I'm someone who went to doctors for my whole life and didn't really understand what was going on with me, like debilitating period pain.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: I mean like throwing up in fetal position, crying like that kind of pain.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: Nothing worked.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: None of the therapy worked, the medication, the birth control, like nothing worked.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: The thing that I'm focusing on is the thing that I we don't talk about enough, and that's like the emotional healing.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: So when I talk about pelvic health, like yes, I definitely like there's physical things to do, but the emotional aspect I feel is so overlooked.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: And I believe that women store so much shame, fear, and guilt in their womb space from societal conditioning, from family, from everything.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: Like everything about our bodies is so controlled, you know?
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: Like we feel so much shame about our sexuality, about our blood, about menopause, about like everything.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: And like emotions, just like physical tension, they're stored in the body.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: So when I think about pelvic health from like an Eastern yogic perspective, Eastern healing, I think about healing the whole person.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: And your pelvic health isn't just a physical experience, it's emotional, it's spiritual as well.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: It's an energetic healing.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: You're talking mind, body, spirit.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: So it's and that is very aligned with like a true yoga practice, right?
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Mind, body, spirit.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: So to make this a little practical for people, what does that look like?
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: You know, like you're not just talking about, okay, let's go do some downward dog movements here.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: So exactly, yeah.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: What does that what does that look like in practice?
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: How do you combine those two modalities together, emotional plus a yoga practice?
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: So I studied womb yoga with this incredible doctor and yoga therapist, who's why I even studied yoga therapy, named Uma Dinsmore.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: And what I found in her classes and what I do now is like, oh, I've been going to yoga my whole life.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: No one's ever spoken about my womb.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: I'm actually really just disconnected from this space.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: So when I went into womb yoga, the difference from a regular yoga class is it was so compassionate.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: It was like, you know, what cycle day are you on?
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Little things like that.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Like what phase are you in?
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Are you in perimenopause?
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Are you in menopause?
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: Like, let's work with your body.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: How does your womb feel today?
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Do you have tension here?
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: Are there emotions here?
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Like all these things, I was just my mind was blown.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: I was like, this space I was just completely cut off from.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: So when I think about like, well, what is, you know, what I do in a practical sense of like explaining it, in a regular kind of yoga class, you probably wouldn't talk about those things, you know?
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: But in a yoga therapy like one-to-one, or someone who's doing specifically womb yoga in a class setting, just think about everything being hyper-focused on this area as your center, like the center of your power, of your sexuality, of your creativity.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: How can you connect to it every single day?
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: That makes sense.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: So when in your journey did you start to realize because I used to have what you're talking about, like those terrible cramps where you're like, you can't even get out of bed.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: And it's, it's, it's a pain like no other, honestly.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: And it feels like it's something you can't control.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: And you go pop a couple of leave and it doesn't do anything.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: It's it's crazy.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: So when along this journey did you start to physically feel that this was helping you?
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Honestly, immediately.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: I tell this story to everyone that I I connect with or, you know, groups that I do.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: The first time I did the womb meditation, I didn't know what to expect.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: And I assumed, because of every other meditation I did, oh, I'm gonna visualize, you know, warmth and light, and it's gonna be so nice.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: And I connected here and I never forget, I saw like it was like a dark cave and it was like cobwebs, and it was scary.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: And I was like, oh my God.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Like I felt so sad for my womb.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: I felt such sadness for her.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Like she was like a part of me, like she was my friend that I had neglected.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: I was like, wow, I haven't been treating you good.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Like I've been, number one, talking so bad about you.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Like, I hate my period.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Like I used to say that all the time.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: I hate my period, you know.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: Of course, we didn't wait for it to be over.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: You know, and and then also with partners, like, you know, people that I've been with, all of it.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: I was like, I can't believe I've treated her this way.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: And when I shifted from that compassionate approach to her, to my womb, the shift happened immediately.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: And I don't mean like, oh my God, my pain changed overnight.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: It didn't.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: It did take time.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: But I mean there was just a different feeling.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Like I just felt so different in my body.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Like things just started to get lighter because I was facing it.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: Like I was facing those emotions that were, I mean, stored for probably decades there.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Well, and what you're talking about sounds so familiar, quite honestly, with perimenopause and menopause, also because you feel like you're at war with your body.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: And I know I personally in perimenopause said so often, like, I am at war with my body.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: And yet, logically, because of all the work I do on mindset work, I knew that that is not solving the problem.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: Like that is, I'm fueling the war, you know, I'm fueling my body's anger.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: As I'm even saying that and verbalizing that, where turning it around and trying to find a way to have compassion for the changes that are happening within your body and understand them and get connected to them.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: It's amazing how that shift in your energy, you don't even realize the shift that it's happening internally unless you go through some of that work.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: And it's like not your fault.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, do we talk about how to go through perimenopause or menopause?
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Like, not enough.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: We're not really given the tools to navigate these experiences or to prepare for them.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: And I really believe that like how you treat each experience impacts how the next one is.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: So your monarchy, your first bleed, if that was full of shame and embarrassment and like, you know, okay, well, then that's gonna flow into your period, into your menstrual cycle.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's gonna impact if you have children, your pregnancy, and so on and so on.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: And so I really think it's like healing all of it, you know, like no matter who I work with, it doesn't matter what their age is, because we go back in time and we heal all of it, you know.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Who was that woman on her monarchy?
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: What was that like for you?
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Like, tell me about it.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: You know, what was your your childbirth like, your first pregnancy, if you know, if you have children?
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: So going back is a huge part of it as well.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Learning to have a different relationship with these parts of and stages as well, and these changes within your body.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: So when people come to you, you know, what's the thing that draws them to kind of seek out you or your level of help?
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Like what gets them there?
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: It is tough.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: I can tell you, like, it is tough.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Because a lot of people are like, oh, it's a yoga class.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, no, it's not.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: But I don't blame you because yoga therapy is still kind of a new thing.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm praying, I'm praying for the day that yoga therapy is like more regulated, you know, like it's on your benefits, just like massage therapy.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: Like, I it's just so powerful that I'm shocked that it's not yet.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: Um how do people find me?
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: I focus a lot on, you know, period pain, endometriosis, PCOS.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: I focus on these issues and pelvic floor tension.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: And so most of the women who find me through social media, they're like me.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: They're like out of options.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: They're like, oh my God, I've tried everything and nothing is working.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: Like, what is this?
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: Maybe this will help me.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: You know, and like I do have like a very compassionate approach.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: I lead with compassion, is a huge part of you know how I support people.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: And I think more than anything, in any kind of therapy setting, people just want to be seen and heard.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: And I think for women struggling with, you know, pelvic health issues, that's sorry, but doctors don't see and hear you a lot.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: So it's like a gift in a way.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: Definitely.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Doctors definitely don't.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: And like I can see everything that you talk about when you talk about things online.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh yeah, like, yes.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Uh most women can relate, quite honestly.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Most women can relate to those feelings and those emotions, whether you had them with period pains or you had them after childbirth, that you have them with perimenopause.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: Like, so many people can relate to so many of the emotions that you talk about when you talk about it online.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: So, are people skeptical, do you find, because they're just used to traditional medicine and let me find a pill to take to make this better.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: And so people are a little bit skeptical of something that's a little more emotional and a lot of people would call woo-woo, even though it's really not.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: But people put it in that category, right?
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, totally.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: And I mean, that's why I got my 800 hours in yoga therapy because I was like, okay, I get it before what I I had just had my womb yoga certificate.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: And I was like, okay, maybe if I get yoga therapy, people will like, you know, jump on board more.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: For sure, there is a little bit of skepticism because a lot of people don't know like what yoga therapy is.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I call it somatic therapy just to connect to people because they're like, ah, somatic therapy.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, I know what that is.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: But it is, you know, a little bit different.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: But I think another thing that comes up, not just skepticism.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: A lot of women feel like they don't have the space to do this work.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: And I mean, like they anticipate it's gonna be really heavy and like emotional.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: And they're like, I've got a job, I've got kids, like, I can't go there.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: You know, and I get that.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Like, I cause I've been there.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Like, I've been in that position where someone is not qualified or professional and they tear you open emotionally, and they just don't have the capacity to support you.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: So I do like a big part of my teaching as well is telling women, like, look, we're gonna take this step by step, we're gonna go compassionate and there's no rush.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: But yeah, those are the two things I would say that come up.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: Understandably so.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: What's the normal amount of time that you work with someone?
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: So I book three sessions for anyone new at a time, like a package.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: Um, because I feel like three sessions, I could just like a month together.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: And then after the month, you know, women will usually choose to come back.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: I'd say like two months.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Because it's mostly like the biggest challenge isn't doing the practices or any of that or understanding it, but it's being consistent.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: This is this is the big thing.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, women believe in this, they they do the practices, they they do the sessions with me.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: They're like, wow, I feel a difference.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: But the consistency showing up for yourself is really, really tough.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: And it's a hard habit to create.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: And so I feel like that typically is the block, is like after the sessions end, sitting down for 10 minutes a day, which is not a lot, but you know, it can be a struggle, which is why I think, you know, we just want to be seen and heard.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: And I think the therapy one-on-one is so so special and important to this work because you can't heal alone.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: Like you heal with guidance and community.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Well, and so if you're saying you go through a session and then in an ideal world, you want someone to spend what, 10 minutes, half an hour every day?
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Like how much time commitment is it in an ideal world if they really want to put this practice to its maximum benefit for themselves?
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: So I always say to anyone I support that self-care, and this isn't someone said this, I can't remember here, but self-care can happen in any moment.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: So just delete it from your brain, the idea that this is like homework or like something like, I need to cargo 30 minutes, because then you're never gonna do it.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: Like try to integrate what we do into every single moment of your life.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: You're in line at the grocery store, do your pelvic floor breathing there.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: Like you don't have to sit down to do it.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: You know, you just caught yourself saying that you can't, you can't, you're dreading menopause or you hate your period.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Okay, you know, switch that belief wherever you are.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: You're out with your girlfriends or whatever.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Like, just take a moment and be like, okay, let me see how I can reframe that.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: But I don't choose the time.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: I always ask, you know, how much time would you like to take?
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Is that five minutes?
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Fine.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: I've done two minutes before for a client.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Some clients say, I don't want to do the self care routine.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: I don't want it at all.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: And so when they lead, when they choose, then there's always like better results.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sure, of course, because then you're choosing it.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: But I love that you're saying it's sort of it's recognizing that self care needs to become a lifestyle, which I think.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: Is so important no matter what the practice is, whether it's yoga techniques, breath techniques, journaling, meditating, walking, lifting weights, whatever it is, I truly believe like it has to be part of your lifestyle.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: If it's something that's on your calendar and blocked as this, like, you know, the equivalent of having to go to the grocery store, go to the dentist, it's like no one's gonna want to do it.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: Of course not.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: Yes, exactly.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: Then it's not appealing and then you can't make space for it.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: And this is a very masculine approach as well.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: Like it's a task.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: It's like, well, that's the opposite.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: What we're doing is bringing you into your feminine.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: So that approach just goes against what we're doing, anyways.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: But sometimes it's hard for people to connect with that.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: So I'm super curious.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: What does your life look like?
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: Like, what is like a week like for you or a day like for you?
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: So good question.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: I'm in Thailand.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: Which is amazing.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Thailand.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Like, it's so funny.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: I never really planned to be here this long.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Like, I first came here like 10, 10, 12 years ago.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: So like it's been a while.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I come home a lot and I stay home for, you know, many months.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: But like I there's such a digital nomad community here.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: So I'm working every day.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: I wish I could say I'm like on the beach sipping cocktails, but no, I'm yeah, I'm working full time.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: And the community really is supporting me to do that because it wasn't always like that here.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: When I first came here, I was like the only one of few people doing freelance work.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: So it's yeah.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: And there's just like things supporting you, you know, like co-working spaces and meetups and all that.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Um, obviously, my time difference.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: So I'm like the nighttime is my time to work, which is great because I actually like prefer that anyways.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: So that perfectly aligns for me.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I mean it's a million degrees, but that's kind of like I love it.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: And it's funny because everyone's like, aren't you from Canada and aren't you like part indigenous?
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: I'm like, yeah, but I I really like the hot weather.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: So you do.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: And do you step into a lot of the health and wellness modalities that are available in Thailand now that you're there and this is what you do for a living?
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I'm gonna be straight up.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: No, I don't because okay, this is why.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: You know how I mentioned in the beginning, like I did a lot of things that were not trauma informed.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: And so the issue here is that people get a little bit lost and carried away here.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: And honestly, they'll watch a YouTube and suddenly they're the expert on that.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: And they'll be holding space for people who have deep trauma.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: Honestly, it's like crazy to I've heard some crazy stories.
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: And so the other thing is like I'm really cautious to go into spaces where people are doing like quite intense healing.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: And I think it attracts that here a lot.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Like, let's go into our trauma in a room with the doors closed and the windows shut.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I don't know if I really want to do that and pay for it.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: But you guys have fun.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: Uh right.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I actually I I I've kind of shifted out of that.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: There's a few people that I go to, and I I'm kind of just doing my own practice and going to the gym, keeping it really simple.
- 26:13unknown: Yeah.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: Simple's not bad though.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: And going to the gym is good.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: That's there's nothing wrong with that.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: But it just demonstrates that you've tapped into the energy that's right for you and putting yourself in the spaces and the rooms and the environments that help you personally grow and also professionally grow.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: And that is a huge awakening and awareness for you, which I love.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: What's on your bucket list for the future?
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: What do you want to do personally and professionally?
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know, like the bucket list for professionally is I really want to make a meditation album because everyone I work with, when I give them their self-care routine, I give them little audios to listen to of like meditations or guidance.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: And everyone's always like, Oh, I really like your voice.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Like it's really soothing.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: I'm like, yeah, I think I should do like a meditation album for women, obviously.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: But that's something like I'm I'm really looking, looking to do.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: And personally, my God.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: I'm actually like, I'm looking for where I want to go to next.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: I just came back from Italy and I really believed that I was gonna love it there.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Like I thought, oh, I'm gonna move here.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: But I I've missed Thailand.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: So really I'm kind of yeah.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: I was really surprised.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: It's like that's weird because I love wine and pasta and Italian men.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: Yes, right.
- 27:36unknown: Yeah.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: Everybody's really nice there.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: It's beautiful.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: It's a beautiful countryside.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: Well, but sometimes you never know until you go and experience, though.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Have you been to Italy?
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: I have.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's beautiful.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: Where do you love to go?
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: When I went, Florence was my favorite of all of it.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Me too.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, loved Florence.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: It's just the smallness and uh the food is great and the shopping is great and the streets are great, and it's just, I really love it.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: It's just not quite so big.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: I'm not a fan of the big, huge cities a lot.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: You know, I'd prefer smaller.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: So we're going back in November.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: My niece is doing a semester abroad over there, so I'm so excited to go to the house.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: Amazing.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: I want to go to the Dolomites.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: Have you ever been to the Dolomites?
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: No, I haven't.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: That it's like up in the mountains in Italy.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: I totally want to go to the Dolomites too.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: My daughter and I want to go to a spa up there.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: So try to get that in too.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: So amazing.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: And November's a great time to go.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: The world is full of so many incredible places that, you know, having a job like you have, you can work anywhere, which is incredible because then it gives you the flexibility to be able to go anywhere and do anything, which is amazing.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: Before we run out of time, is there anything that I didn't ask you about what you do?
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: I know, because of my fast, right?
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: Is there anything I didn't ask you about what you do that you want to make sure you share?
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, you're so wonderful, by the way.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: It was so lovely to talk to you.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: You're so thank you.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: What do I want to share?
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, I guess I could speak to people, you know, who are maybe resonating with this right now, who have maybe some kind of trauma with your womb pain.
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: I've been there.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: And if you're, you know, really, really struggling if uh you're out of options or you feel like you're not being seen or heard.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I'm someone who really believed.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: I used to tell myself, this is just me, and I will have to deal with this for the rest of my life.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: This is just me.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: It's just how it is.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: And I would reason with myself.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: And me, even to this day, every cycle, I'm like skipping through my house.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I can't believe there's no pain and I feel so good.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Like, I just still can't believe it, you know?
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: And I've seen this with, you know, not just with period pain, but with any other kind of womb-related issue that that it is possible and you can heal it.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: And the first step is like really opening up and believing and trusting yourself that you can that you can do it.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: I hope you take that first step.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: Those are powerful things to learn because you're teaching skills that you can.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Yes, you're working on pelvic health and womb healing and traumatic wounds and trauma.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: You're working on all of that.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: But the skills that you're teaching in terms of connecting to your body and accepting your body for what it is and having understanding the emotional component of life and how that's impacting your, you know, nervous system and your mental health, your physical health, all the things.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: Those are life skills.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: They're not just something that you apply just, you know, because it's related to your period or your public health.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: A lot of those things and even the breathing techniques, those are life skills.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, this has changed.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, it started very focused for me, but it completely shifted my outlook on life.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: You know, like connecting the feminine energy with all of my body, with my feminine experiences.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's changed my work.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: It's changed my relationships, my friendships, my connection with my family, like everything.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: Everything changes.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: So for sure.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: And it makes you more confident.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: And then the energy that you put out and the confidence that attracts more people in more situations, more environments that bring that positive energy in.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: And I'm sure you can look back on your life, you know, 10 or 15 years ago and think, I don't even know that person.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: I can't even connect with who that person was in the past.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: She's, I love her so much, but girl, like, what were you doing?
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: What's going on with you?
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: Why did you need to buy 20 pairs of shoes and like spend all your money and yeah, it's it's definitely, it's amazing.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: Hindsight, right?
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: Looking back.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: But that's all growth, you know?
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: That's and accepting yourself for who you were then, also, you know?
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: And exactly.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Just accepting that that was part of your journey that got you to where you are now.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: It's important.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: It's really important healing work.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: Import right, exactly.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Don't beat yourself up about it.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: So important, also.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: I would love to ask my guests if there's a book or books that they want to recommend that has impacted them professionally or personally.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: I'm a huge fan of books.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: I always put them in the show notes.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: I read a lot of the books that my guests suggest.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: So is there a book or books that you would like to recommend?
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: If I can do books, I'll do two.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: But uh my number one, I'm so excited that you asked this question.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: I love this book.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: You know, when I told you in the beginning about the first modality I tried that was not, you know, traumatizing me and that was working at that woman's circle.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: At that woman's circle, there was a book there.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: And I swear to God, when I envision it, like, I swear there's like lights and like stars coming out of it.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: It was just so special.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: I picked it up.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: I was like, what is this?
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: And it was called Yoni Shakti.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: And this is the woman.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: This is the woman I studied with.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: This is the doctor, the yoga therapist from England, Uma Dinsmore, Uma Thule Dinsmore.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: I love her so much.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: I've studied Yoga Nijra with her, womb yoga.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: And that book, it's about this thick, and it just completely transformed my experience with womanhood.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, she goes through everything of how to holistically heal everything you can think about when it comes to being a woman.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: And also the approach, yeah, just the Eastern, the Tantra, the Yogic philosophy approach to being a woman and to embodying your feminine power.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: Um, so I can't say that enough.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: This book, if I hadn't found that book, I wouldn't be who I am today.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: Yoni Shakti.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: Do you have another book you want to recommend too?
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: Because you can recommend more than one.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: The other book I'll say is Women Women Who Run with Wolves.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: It was a wonderful.
- 34:02unknown: Yeah.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: And I think that's more widely known, that book.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: Um I read that book.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: I just I don't I don't know.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: I probably read it 30 times.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: I just keep reading it over and over and over, all the stories that I like.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: That's the second one I would recommend.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: Which is always I love when guests come on and they said, Oh, I've read it so many times.
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: But I think that is such a good sign of a good book because a book like that, there are different things that resonate about the book for you at different times in different stages of life and even just different seasons of the year.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: And that's always such a powerful book if you come back and you keep rereading it and you keep learning from it, or you keep enjoying it, or you keep growing from it.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: That's always such a great sign of a good book.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: So yeah, exactly.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: I love those.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: We will link those in the show notes.
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: So, Josh, thank you so much for coming on.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: Everything will be linked in the show notes.
- 34:48SPEAKER_00: You guys, you have to go follow her on Instagram.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: Her content is so fantastic, or follow her on LinkedIn if you're a LinkedIn person.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: Your content is really cool.
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: First of all, your pictures of you just in life, like Thailand's beautiful.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: So, what's not to like about that?
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: But you really help people and women in particular just kind of rethink about their bodies and think about what's possible and about having a different relationship with your body.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: And I think a lot of women, we have a lot of negative narrative that's going on.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: And you talk a lot about that negative narrative.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: And I love you said something that I want to make sure we end on, which is, you know, your thought that this is just your body and that this is just the way it is.

- 36:11SPEAKER_00: It doesn't work like that.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: You have to do it yourself.
