Transcript
- 0:00You have arrived. Welcome to the Aspy world.
- 0:04Here's where we talk about anything and everything ASD in
- 0:07an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 0:11spectrum, your autism ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 0:19Being autistic can be lonely as fuck guys.
- 0:23What's going on? Welcome back to the aspy world.
- 0:25My name is Dan and I have autism and ADHD.
- 0:28I, I, I wanted to do this video and like I've done videos before
- 0:31on kind of loneliness, right and, and what can I say?
- 0:34Hey look guys, it's good to be back 2025.
- 0:36Oh my goodness, never thought we'd get here, but we're here.
- 0:39It's crazy, right? And it's probably the most alone
- 0:44I've felt in a long time. And there are many reasons for
- 0:47this. Now autistic individuals will
- 0:50feel lonely because of various things, right?
- 0:52There could be, you know, lack of friendships, lack of social
- 0:56circles because we find socializing, creating and, and
- 0:59maintaining friends difficult. But there are many of the
- 1:02factors that come into it. And you only really feel that
- 1:04you're alone or, you know, and recognize loneliness when it
- 1:08hits you in the face. Like I get up in the morning,
- 1:11I'm alone. I, I make my breakfast, I'm
- 1:14alone, You know, I go out for a run.
- 1:17I'm on my own. I, I work out, I'm on my own.
- 1:19I'm sitting in the office working, I'm on my own.
- 1:22And I only really think this when I sit down and analyse the
- 1:25situation that I'm in. I'm like, wow, I'm in my house
- 1:28all alone. I've been on my own all day.
- 1:30I've just been me sitting here in my house all alone and I have
- 1:35plenty. I have family members.
- 1:36I have two children. I have a girlfriend, but my
- 1:40children only live with me 50% of the time.
- 1:43And my girlfriend only lives with me 50% of the time because
- 1:45she lives in Canada. And it's kind of like, you know,
- 1:49and I just got back from Canada and FYI, guys, Canada's awesome
- 1:52in the winter. Like the snow is crazy.
- 1:54I'm trying to put a picture here of somewhere or a video here of
- 1:56me pushing snow. But it's really cool.
- 2:04Canada was great and I really appreciate the time I have
- 2:07there. Guys, wanted to interrupt this
- 2:08video to talk to you about an app I've been using and I really
- 2:11love, but I know that you'll like, it's called Headway.
- 2:14Now Headway is an app that I think is perfect for people on
- 2:16the autism spectrum and ADHD, which is my neuro spicy folk
- 2:20when you want to learn things and many things at once.
- 2:23Now, if you're like me and you have the same issue I have, I
- 2:25want to learn many things, but I don't want to kind of search
- 2:28through an entire book just for that one piece of information.
- 2:30I want to be able to digest that stuff quickly, easily, and when
- 2:33I want it right then and there. Headway makes it so much easier
- 2:37when you're setting up. It asks you your preferences of
- 2:39what kind of things you want to learn, what kind of things
- 2:41you're interested in, where you want to improve your life, how
- 2:43you're currently feeling about things, All the things for
- 2:46money, finances, relationships, whatever it is that you're
- 2:48trying to learn. Headway makes that into a
- 2:51concise format that then puts it into like a homepage scenario
- 2:55where you can listen to something rather than read.
- 2:57If you prefer listening, like me, I'm dyslexic, right?
- 2:59It has that function. It allows me to listen to the
- 3:03pieces of information rather than just read them.
- 3:04But you can read them if if you want to.
- 3:06I think this is a fantastic app. It's highly recommended for
- 3:09people on the autism spectrum who are desperate to learn
- 3:12things daily. Like me.
- 3:13I get depressed and annoyed if I can't learn things daily.
- 3:16So Headway makes it possible. So normally I think it's
- 3:19amazing. I have to actually thank them
- 3:20because they've made this amazing for me.
- 3:22It's giving information accessibility to the next level
- 3:25for neurodividend individuals. Now, please check out the
- 3:27Headway app and the link will be in the description down below.
- 3:30And I'll also leave a link in my bio so you can check it out
- 3:33there as well. Thanks, Headway.
- 3:34All right, let's get back to the video.
- 3:35But it's weird, like I, I, I spending time, you know, it's
- 3:38like when my kids are here, my kids are in my house, I'm
- 3:40spending time with my kids and then all of a sudden they go and
- 3:43I'm alone. It hits you.
- 3:44It's like, wow, I'm on my own, you know, and, and being alone
- 3:47sucks. It sucks more than anything, you
- 3:49know, like, and, and how do I, how do you explain how you feel
- 3:53when you feel alone? It's kind of like you have all
- 3:54these things going on. You have many messages coming in
- 3:58on social media, you have many text messages, you have people
- 4:00who may phone you, you have, you know, work to do.
- 4:02You have clients, you know, and, and the things that you converse
- 4:05with, but none of it makes you feel like you're less lonely.
- 4:09And, and it's a hard, weird expression to, to have.
- 4:13And I've been thinking about this a lot lately.
- 4:15And I don't want people to feel as alone as I do.
- 4:19That is my mission this year, to make autistic individuals feel
- 4:22less alone. Like we have to do something
- 4:25about it. Like there's, there's no more.
- 4:27I'm like, I was, I was in Canada and I was having a really good
- 4:30time seeing my girlfriend. You know, it was in her house
- 4:33there in Canada and I was working there.
- 4:36We were going for dinner and we did.
- 4:37And it's really cool because you have all these things.
- 4:38You have somebody around you that loves and cares for you the
- 4:40whole time. And then you come home, Oh, you
- 4:43step off that plane and you're like, wow, it's just me now.
- 4:46It's just me on my own. Like, what, what am I going to
- 4:49do here? And so one of the things I was
- 4:51thinking about was like, how am I dealing with loneliness?
- 4:54Because sometimes I go through certain days when I don't feel
- 4:57that lonely and I'm like, oh, OK, but how do I deal with it?
- 5:00And one of the things I realized I'm doing is I'm keeping myself
- 5:03busy with the things that bring me the most joy.
- 5:06Now my work brings me lots of joy.
- 5:08You know, like I love making videos for YouTube.
- 5:11I love doing all these things. And it's organizing those things
- 5:16and staying focused on them that keeps me going.
- 5:18Now, how do I do this? I have notepads.
- 5:20I have so many notepads, right? And I know guys, if you're like
- 5:22me and you have like 16 notepads on the go, you have like 18 to
- 5:26do lists. I know it, I get it.
- 5:28I feel you. I'm you.
- 5:30I have ADHD, autism, dyslexia, you name it, We vibe, right?
- 5:34This is this is our tribe. And if you haven't already, make
- 5:36sure to hit that subscribe button tribe, because like,
- 5:38we're all here. We're part of this family,
- 5:40right? And I'm going to talk a little
- 5:41bit more about how we're building this in in a minute.
- 5:44Now, this is so unique and interesting that I find out that
- 5:48when I'm writing down my goals and my aspirations and my to
- 5:52do's in this little book or even just thoughts, anything into
- 5:55this little book, right? I feel less alone because I'm
- 5:58expressing myself through having those things down written in a
- 6:03format. I can see even though I am using
- 6:05progression, I'm moving forward through space because sometimes
- 6:07I get to this point where I sit in there in this like inertia
- 6:10abyss where I want to do all these things.
- 6:12And then I go, I have so many things to do, so many things I
- 6:14want to do and I can't do a single one of them because I
- 6:17feel so lonely. I feel this pit of despair.
- 6:20All I want to do is pill up into a ball and go to sleep.
- 6:22And that's not going to help anybody because we have to take
- 6:24responsibility and go, this is the thing I want to do in life.
- 6:28How am I going to do it? I want to move forward and I
- 6:30want to do these things. Now, that's all well and good
- 6:34and I do believe that, you know, this helps with my focus and my
- 6:39attitude to maintain this kind of like steady kind of, OK, no,
- 6:42it's working. I'm moving forward through
- 6:44space, it's working. However, there's another side of
- 6:48it. I feel that when a problem
- 6:51shared is a problem halved, which is totally, absolutely,
- 6:54100% bang on the money. And if you have nobody to share
- 6:57your problems with, nobody to bounce those ideas back, then
- 7:00your problems are never have. They're just accumulating all
- 7:03the time. It sucks.
- 7:04It's actually in a massive, massive way.
- 7:06So what do I want to do? How am I going to combat this?
- 7:08Well, my step one, my first step towards this, last year I
- 7:13created the Autism Social Summit and we did it in Toronto,
- 7:16Canada. It sold out and it was an in
- 7:18person live event where myself and some of my autistic fellow
- 7:21creators like Paige Lyle, Mark Recklebum, Alex, who's been on
- 7:24my channel a few times, we all did like a panel talk and we all
- 7:27did kind of like small sessions, like keynote sessions and it was
- 7:31really, really good. But the main effect was that all
- 7:33these people were there that we met in real time, real life.
- 7:37These were artistic adults and we were all there together just
- 7:39like vibing and it was great. And I felt so much like this is
- 7:42my tribe. This is where I belong.
- 7:43I belong with these people. How do I transpose that?
- 7:46How do I keep it going? How do we get something like
- 7:48that all the time? How do we take like the
- 7:50community we have here online? How do we probably push it into
- 7:53and by the way, this video is going to be on Instagram and
- 7:56Facebook and TikTok and and you know, everywhere and how do we
- 8:00how do we do this? Well, I want to do something
- 8:02kind of ambiguous. I want to, I want to put us all
- 8:04into like one room and, and have these have weekly discussions.
- 8:09Now, I've done this in the past and it worked really, really
- 8:12well. I had the, I had the membership
- 8:16course, which was basically like I started during COVID when we
- 8:20paid a small fee every month and we all kind of came together and
- 8:24we paid for the server and everything we got and it was
- 8:26just absolutely amazing. And I'm going to do the same
- 8:29thing. I want to do it bigger and
- 8:31better than ever before. We're going to do this the the
- 8:33Astley world, you know, the artistic empire, which we are.
- 8:37We're we are needing to be together because what I want to
- 8:41do is offer you one-on-one solutions.
- 8:43Be on a zoom call with all of you guys, like be able to you
- 8:46can ask me a question. I can ask you a question.
- 8:48We can hang out and give tips. We can talk, we can share ideas,
- 8:51talk about movies that we've seen, talk about autism
- 8:54resources, anything you want just to be you feel less lonely.
- 8:57So I feel less lonely so I can connect to you.
- 8:59There shouldn't be a wall between us, right?
- 9:01This camera doesn't really mean much, but it's, it shouldn't
- 9:04define what we're doing, right? They should just be that this is
- 9:08something that's going to happen.
- 9:11It's going to happen. Now if you're interested, I am
- 9:14going to charge a $27.00 fee per month to to access this the
- 9:21platform, right? And it just helps pay for the
- 9:23whole thing because the platform is difficult to to maintain and
- 9:26I'll need to have somebody, you know, maintain the platform and
- 9:29do it right. But it allows us, you know, to
- 9:32be able to have this experience between US and we're going to
- 9:34leave a link down below. So you can register right now
- 9:37for this. If you're watching on Instagram
- 9:39or TikTok up, the link is going to be in the my bio, the link in
- 9:43bio section. And if you're also watching on
- 9:46Facebook, the link will be in the first comment of this video.
- 9:49Now I'm really stoked about this.
- 9:51I want you guys to help me name it, right?
- 9:53Like I'm going to call I'm nicknaming it the Autistic
- 9:56empire because that's what my Facebook group was called.
- 9:59But we we need to name it, right?
- 10:01But I can only enable when I have you guys there because I
- 10:02want to ask you guys, how do we name it?
- 10:04What do we talk about? What are our monthly topics
- 10:05going to be like? This is where we need to be.
- 10:09No longer are we going to be lonely.
- 10:10No longer are we going to have this garbage of like having to
- 10:13deal with being lonely and not having questions.
- 10:15And, and you know, I have so many people who message me and I
- 10:17can never get back to those messages because I'm trying to
- 10:19do, you know, I need a consolidated time where I sit
- 10:21down and do these messages. Well, now is your town.
- 10:23So you can sit down with me in a in a group call on video on not
- 10:26video. If you don't want to, you can
- 10:27just have your microphone on or just type into the chat box.
