- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili, mornings on demand on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Well, Chili, the optimistic part of me wants to say
- 0:07Speaker 2: there's a reason we have rain. There's a reason we
- 0:10Speaker 2: had rain yesterday. There's a reason why there's rain in
- 0:12Speaker 2: the forecast today. And there's a reason why Sunday will
- 0:16Speaker 2: be sunny, God willing. And the reason Sunday will be
- 0:20Speaker 2: good is because it's football Sunday and even the Lord
- 0:23Speaker 2: smiles on football Sunday. It's 97.1 Wash FM. We're Toby
- 0:27Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning. Welcome. 97.1 Wash FM. So, Chili,
- 0:33Speaker 2: why are you feeling good today?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Well, I'm feeling good because I get to see our friend,
- 0:39Speaker 3: meteorologist Eileen Whalen from WJLA Channel 7. Tomorrow morning, we're
- 0:43Speaker 3: going to do the Race for Every Child is an
- 0:45Speaker 3: event we do every year to benefit Children's National Hospital.
- 0:48Speaker 3: And I'm looking forward to getting up with her. Tomorrow
- 0:52Speaker 3: morning and hosting down at Freedom Plaza. So if you're
- 0:56Speaker 3: going to be there, please come and say hello to us.
- 0:58Speaker 2: And no, she's not dripping with sarcasm about getting up
- 1:01Speaker 2: early on a second consecutive Saturday because the cause is
- 1:04Speaker 2: worth it.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Yes, but also getting up at 5 a.m. is a
- 1:08Speaker 3: lot better than getting up at 1.45 a.m.
- 1:10Speaker 2: That's a true story.
- 1:11Speaker 3: So I'm still sleeping in by doing these events. Yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 2: You know, speaking of sleep, I'm feeling good because my
- 1:17Speaker 2: sleep score was good. I went to bed last night.
- 1:19Speaker 2: My body just wanted to shut down at like 745.
- 1:23Speaker 2: But here's the bad thing that happens. I get up
- 1:27Speaker 2: at like midnight. Like my body just is like, and
- 1:31Speaker 2: then it's like a nightmare trying to get back to sleep.
- 1:34Speaker 2: But I managed to pull it off without dipping into
- 1:38Speaker 2: any like, you know, sleep aids or anything like that.
- 1:41Speaker 2: You know, ask your doctor if you need a prescription.
- 1:44Speaker 2: But it was good to actually just sleep naturally. You
- 1:49Speaker 2: know what I mean? Sure. And so here I am today, caffeinated, rested,
- 1:54Speaker 2: and hopefully I won't do what I've done with the
- 1:56Speaker 2: microphones off. This week, a couple of times, which is
- 1:59Speaker 2: just does. I'm like, yeah, hitting walls. Yeah. Oh, beyond
- 2:03Speaker 2: hitting walls. It's like hit the wall and fall down.
- 2:05Speaker 2: And then somebody get me a blanket. Anyway, it's 97.1.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Watch FM. Hopefully you're feeling good as we get into
- 2:12Speaker 2: this Friday. Tell us 866-927-4361. Hang out for the news.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour coming up
- 2:20Speaker 2: right around 510. Chili, what's going on?
- 2:23Speaker 3: When was the last time you hosted a dinner party?
- 2:26Speaker 3: A new survey finds that Americans are just becoming much
- 2:29Speaker 3: less likely to invite friends and family into their home.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 2:38Speaker 3: A shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon left
- 2:41Speaker 3: three children and a teacher dead. Police say the 16-year-old
- 2:44Speaker 3: gunman was also killed by an armed bystander. A teacher
- 2:48Speaker 3: and another student were injured. The president says the execution
- 2:52Speaker 3: of Fort Hood shooter Nadel Hassan will no longer be
- 2:56Speaker 3: live streamed. He says Hassan will still die as scheduled
- 3:01Speaker 3: and that the victim's families can watch in person if
- 3:04Speaker 3: they wish. Federal authorities are investigating letters with suspicious substances
- 3:09Speaker 3: that were mailed to congressional and election officials nationwide. Offices
- 3:14Speaker 3: in at least two states, Louisiana and Oklahoma, were evacuated
- 3:18Speaker 3: this week. Prince George's County police are investigating the death
- 3:22Speaker 3: of a 29-year-old Hyattsville woman as a homicide. Her body
- 3:26Speaker 3: was found in a parked car on Wednesday, and a
- 3:29Speaker 3: person of interest was later found dead in an apparent suicide.
- 3:34Speaker 3: New laws in Maryland and Virginia are making it easier
- 3:37Speaker 3: for homeowners to build accessory dwelling units like basement apartments,
- 3:42Speaker 3: converted garages, or backyard homes. Homeowners will still need permits
- 3:47Speaker 3: to follow some local rules. And a new survey finds
- 3:50Speaker 3: that Americans are opening their homes to friends and family
- 3:53Speaker 3: less often. Back in 1975, 42% of Americans hosted guests
- 3:59Speaker 3: at least once a month. Well, that is now down
- 4:02Speaker 3: to just 12%. Experts say pressure to have a picture-perfect
- 4:06Speaker 3: home is making people feel too embarrassed to invite others over.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Forecast for today, we'll have cloudy skies with a chance
- 4:14Speaker 3: of thunderstorms. Highs around 80. Right now, 61 in Woodbridge.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Don't forget, you get the news. Top stories at the
- 4:22Speaker 2: top of the hour with Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Next news right around 6, 10 this morning. And if
- 4:28Speaker 2: you need a little pick-me-up today, your morning mindset. In
- 4:32Speaker 2: honor of our best of the 80s and 90s weekend
- 4:35Speaker 2: that we're staring down today, starting at 5 with Sabrina Conte.
- 4:39Speaker 2: We'll look to the 80s and 90s to inspire us
- 4:43Speaker 2: this morning. Time now for the Friday morning edition of
- 4:47Speaker 2: Your Morning Mindset here at 97.1 Wash FM with Toby
- 4:50Speaker 2: and Chili. In the morning now, if you're just finding
- 4:52Speaker 2: us for the first time, you're like, what is this
- 4:54Speaker 2: morning mindset thing? Well, we'll explain.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Well, we always find a quote to get you into
- 4:58Speaker 3: a good headspace. But on Fridays, because we kick off
- 5:00Speaker 3: our best of the 80s and 90s weekend at 5 p.m.
- 5:03Speaker 3: with Sabrina Conti, Toby likes to find a lyric from
- 5:07Speaker 3: those decades to do the inspiring.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And this morning, it's Janet Jackson. Janet Jackson and her
- 5:13Speaker 2: song Escapade, number one back in 1990. Let me take
- 5:17Speaker 2: you on an escapade. Now, why is that important to
- 5:22Speaker 2: us this morning? Well, the reason why is because you
- 5:26Speaker 2: need to make sure, I think, we all do, need
- 5:29Speaker 2: to make the time for us. You know what I mean? Like,
- 5:33Speaker 2: we need to, in the sea of everything that we
- 5:35Speaker 2: do every day, day in and day out, for family,
- 5:38Speaker 2: for friends, for the job, for all of these things.
- 5:42Speaker 2: It is so important to remember that if you take
- 5:46Speaker 2: the time for you, just a little bit of time
- 5:48Speaker 2: for you, it'll clarify everything that you're going through. And
- 5:52Speaker 2: you'll be more ready to take on any challenges that
- 5:55Speaker 2: come your way. So keep that in mind today. Thanks
- 5:58Speaker 2: to Janet and her song Escapade from 1990. And remember
- 6:02Speaker 2: that if you hear it on this best of the
- 6:04Speaker 2: 80s weekend when it starts at 5 today. It's 97.1
- 6:09Speaker 2: Washoe FM. We are Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Stay with us because in just a few.
- 6:13Speaker 3: You know, we're midway through October, which means Halloween is
- 6:16Speaker 3: literally a couple of weeks away. Now, 58% of people
- 6:20Speaker 3: think it should be a national holiday. We're going to
- 6:23Speaker 3: have to talk about this, and Crash, our producer, who
- 6:28Speaker 3: needs to be joining the conversation. Stick around.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Important. Here comes our producer, Crash, because he has some
- 6:35Speaker 2: interesting insights as to what we're going to talk about
- 6:37Speaker 2: this morning. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Halloween, national holiday, yes
- 6:42Speaker 2: or no?
- 6:43Speaker 5: Oh.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Survey says 58 that's an overwhelming majority that really think
- 6:48Speaker 3: it should be a national holiday and by that i
- 6:50Speaker 3: mean maybe you get a day off okay from work
- 6:53Speaker 3: the reason we want crash in this conversation is because
- 6:56Speaker 3: this is one of your favorite quote-unquote holidays it's the
- 6:59Speaker 3: favorite holiday there you go So wait, I'll ask you
- 7:03Speaker 3: two first. I know you want it to be a
- 7:05Speaker 3: national holiday.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Toby?
- 7:06Speaker 2: I'm all about any holidays we can get as long
- 7:09Speaker 2: as they're paid holidays. So why not?
- 7:10Speaker 3: Come on.
- 7:11Speaker 2: I stand with Crash.
- 7:12Speaker 3: You think it's holiday worthy?
- 7:14Speaker 2: Why not?
- 7:14Speaker 3: Up there with like July 4th and Thanksgiving and Christmas.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Does it pass the target test? Yes.
- 7:20Speaker 6: Yes.
- 7:20Speaker 2: When you walk into Target in the middle of summer
- 7:23Speaker 2: and they have all the Halloween stuff out already, that's
- 7:26Speaker 2: the Target test. That means, yes, it's a holiday akin
- 7:29Speaker 2: to Christmas.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Oh, come on.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Or any other major holiday.
- 7:32Speaker 3: It's all about just putting on costumes and knocking on
- 7:35Speaker 3: doors and getting candy.
- 7:36Speaker 2: He's triggered. Can you explain quickly the religious aspects of Halloween?
- 7:40Speaker 3: All right, buckle up.
- 7:41Speaker 2: I'm going to learn you something.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Oh.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:44Speaker 5: So... It stems way back to an old Celtic holiday
- 7:49Speaker 5: called Samhain. So that was when they celebrated their end
- 7:52Speaker 5: of harvest, which is what Samhain means.
- 7:53Speaker 2: It means the end of summer. So November 1st was
- 7:56Speaker 2: their new year.
- 7:57Speaker 5: And they celebrated October 31st as the end of summer,
- 8:01Speaker 5: the beginning of the dark half of the year, which
- 8:03Speaker 5: is that cold time between November and May 1st when
- 8:07Speaker 5: the days are getting shorter. And people were dying during
- 8:10Speaker 5: that time. And so that's why it was significant.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I see.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Mm-hmm. And now, you know, the rest of the story.
- 8:18Speaker 5: It's all about candy and costumes now.
- 8:20Speaker 3: It's an incredible evolution from celebrating the dark half of
- 8:23Speaker 3: the year to dressing up as witches and goblins. I'm
- 8:26Speaker 3: not understanding the connection, but OK.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Thank you, Professor. Game on.
- 8:30Speaker 3: OK.
- 8:30Speaker 2: We need to start a YouGov poll right now. Crash,
- 8:33Speaker 2: can we get on that?
- 8:33Speaker 3: If you want to chime in with your thoughts, though,
- 8:36Speaker 3: you can always hit the talkback microphone on the iHeartRadio
- 8:39Speaker 3: app and tell us if you really think it's deserving
- 8:42Speaker 3: of being a national holiday.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Because you know it is. Now, what's going on with
- 8:45Speaker 2: the news, Chili? Top stories at the top of the hour.
- 8:48Speaker 1: On the way.
- 8:49Speaker 3: A recent study asked women what they really want from men.
- 8:52Speaker 3: It's not money or height. I do have the answer
- 8:55Speaker 3: for you coming up in just a few.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Do you want to go see Journey? That's right. For free.

- 10:03Speaker 3: and student were also hospitalized with critical injuries. The president

- 10:11Speaker 3: execution by a firing squad, citing concerns that were raised

- 10:53Speaker 3: there will be no toll increases in 2027 at facilities

- 11:07Speaker 3: A monument honoring Malcolm X was unveiled Wednesday at the

- 11:22Speaker 3: they really want from men. And let me tell you,
- 11:24Speaker 3: it's not money or height. Researchers say women want men
- 11:28Speaker 3: who listen without trying to fix everything and who step

- 12:23Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning at 866-927-4361. Paul McCartney
- 12:29Speaker 2: says he has memories of this. Find out what it is.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Smells like hooey to me, but we've got it all
- 12:37Speaker 2: about your earliest memory. Stay right there. 866-927-4360. What is
- 12:45Speaker 2: the number? We are Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 12:48Speaker 2: So let's talk about your earliest memory. What was it?
- 12:52Speaker 2: Sir Paul McCartney, the Beatle. He says he has memories
- 12:57Speaker 2: of a very specific date, time and event.
- 13:01Speaker 3: His being born. Yeah, he told Amy Poehler. He was
- 13:04Speaker 3: a guest on her podcast. And he said on that
- 13:07Speaker 3: podcast that he recalls white hospital tiles, chrome instruments, and
- 13:12Speaker 3: even the clanging of forceps while he was being delivered.
- 13:16Speaker 3: I'm not sure that that's really even possible. I think
- 13:19Speaker 3: if it is possible, it's probably extremely rare. I think
- 13:23Speaker 3: he thinks he remembers. I can't imagine this to be true.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Remembering your birth? Are you kidding me? Yeah. Your face
- 13:33Speaker 3: says it all.
- 13:34Speaker 2: It's hooey. It really is. Like, I'm sorry, Sir Paul McCartney, legend, beetle.
- 13:40Speaker 2: You've lost your mind. Oh, stop. No, I just don't
- 13:43Speaker 2: think I've racked my brain to remember the earliest memories.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I was even talking to my mom and dad yesterday.
- 13:49Speaker 2: An unrelated this comes up and they ask me, do
- 13:52Speaker 2: you remember staying in a cabin and Uncle so-and-so's shenanigan, blah, blah, blah.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I'm like, no, I was a kid. I have no
- 13:59Speaker 2: recollection of that moment.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Now, Paul does admit that he may have imagined the
- 14:05Speaker 3: whole thing. So he's leaving the door open for whatever. Yeah,
- 14:09Speaker 3: that's the BS window. Yeah. If you had to think back, though,
- 14:12Speaker 3: if I'm forcing you right now, what is the earliest
- 14:15Speaker 3: memory that comes to mind for you?
- 14:17Speaker 2: I remember snippets and clips of my family's first apartment.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I was coming in and I believe mom was carrying me.
- 14:25Speaker 2: And I remember looking over... at like something growing in
- 14:30Speaker 2: like you know little styrofoam cups or some sort of
- 14:32Speaker 2: like little whatever like little like you.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Know but how old were you in that scenario had.
- 14:36Speaker 2: To be two maybe no it'd be two because my
- 14:39Speaker 2: brother todd wasn't born yet.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Okay so between two and three we can remember moments
- 14:44Speaker 3: from our childhood because i was this around that same
- 14:46Speaker 3: age my mom was pregnant with my sister and i
- 14:48Speaker 3: the only kind of moment i have is me sitting
- 14:50Speaker 3: on her lap she's pregnant and And she's asking me
- 14:53Speaker 3: what we should name her, my future sister. Right. But
- 14:56Speaker 3: it's not, that's about it.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Right. And you weren't a newborn. 97.1 Wash FM. Toby,
- 15:03Speaker 2: you're chilling in the morning. What's your earliest memory? What
- 15:05Speaker 2: is it? Tell us everything. We're listening. paul mccartney says
- 15:09Speaker 2: he remembers the moment he was born yeah she'll be
- 15:14Speaker 2: in chile in the morning 97.1 watch fm at 866-927-4361
- 15:21Speaker 2: so what is your earliest childhood memory we want to know.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Here let's see if your memory is just as incredible
- 15:27Speaker 3: now alan thanks so much for listening to us in
- 15:29Speaker 3: brambleton you say you were about four years old what
- 15:32Speaker 3: do you remember.
- 15:33Speaker 4: Going to the movies.
- 15:34Speaker 2: And Alan, what did you see?
- 15:35Speaker 1: I don't even know what movie I saw, but I
- 15:38Speaker 1: definitely remember sitting in the theater and watching something.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Hopefully it wasn't Jaws.
- 15:42Speaker 4: I think it was animated.
- 15:43Speaker 2: That would mean your parents were very concerned about what
- 15:47Speaker 2: you were viewing at such a young age. Nice, safe
- 15:51Speaker 2: animated movie. I assume it was probably Disney. Thank you, Alan.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Now in Darnstown, you were two and a half years old, Lisa.
- 16:00Speaker 2: What do you remember?
- 16:01Speaker 5: My earliest memory was my older brother pushing me on
- 16:03Speaker 5: the swings in the park.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Oh, that feeling in your tummy as you're going up
- 16:08Speaker 3: and down and the wind in your hair.
- 16:10Speaker 2: That was so cool.
- 16:12Speaker 4: And I'm glad it's my first memory.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Yeah, because subsequent memories of your brother were, well, typical
- 16:18Speaker 2: subsequent memories of your brother. You know, framing you for
- 16:22Speaker 2: things maybe that he jacked from the cookie jar and
- 16:25Speaker 2: saying there's snakes in your closet, things like that. Yeah,
- 16:29Speaker 2: I know. Brothers can be brothers. Boys will be boys.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Thanks for the call and for sharing your memory with
- 16:34Speaker 2: us there, Lisa. Got one to share? Tap the talkback microphone.
- 16:38Speaker 2: You know it's wide open for you if you're listening
- 16:41Speaker 2: right now on your iHeart app and tell us all
- 16:43Speaker 2: about your earliest memory. It's fun to live vicariously through
- 16:46Speaker 2: you and your story, so feel free to jump in whenever.
- 16:50Speaker 2: It's 97.1 Wash FM. Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 16:53Speaker 2: You need the news. All right, then. Top stories at
- 16:56Speaker 2: the top of the hour. Right around 7.10, you'll find
- 16:59Speaker 2: out what's going on. Chili, what are you working on?
- 17:02Speaker 3: Interesting new study finds that we tend to judge strangers
- 17:06Speaker 3: based on ourselves. I'll explain more coming up in just
- 17:09Speaker 3: a few minutes.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Right around 710, you'll get top stories at the top
- 17:14Speaker 2: of the hour with Toby and Chili in the morning, 97.
- 17:15Speaker 2: And then right after that, another round of your nearly
- 17:20Speaker 2: impossible question. And today on the line.
- 17:24Speaker 3: You can go see Carly Rae Jepsen at the Anthem Mayfords.
- 17:27Speaker 3: We're friends at Live Nation. So make sure you get
- 17:30Speaker 3: the question right.
- 17:31Speaker 2: That's right. And then call us maybe. And you could win.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Hear what we did there? So clever. 97.1 Wash FM.
- 17:41Speaker 6: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington.
- 17:43Speaker 1: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 17:47Speaker 1: the hour.
- 17:48Speaker 3: A shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon left
- 17:51Speaker 3: three children and a teacher dead. We've got the latest
- 17:55Speaker 3: on that story and others on the way. With Toby

- 18:07Speaker 3: A shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, left
- 18:10Speaker 3: three children and a teacher dead. Police say the 16-year-old
- 18:13Speaker 3: gunman was killed by an armed bystander. The teacher and
- 18:17Speaker 3: another student were critically injured. The president says that the
- 18:20Speaker 3: execution of Fort Hood shooter Nadel Hassan will no longer
- 18:24Speaker 3: be live streamed. He said Hassan will die as scheduled
- 18:28Speaker 3: and that the victim's families can watch if they choose to.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Metro transit police are searching for a man who's accused
- 18:35Speaker 3: of hitting a bus driver in the head with a
- 18:36Speaker 3: gun and then stealing his wallet. This happened in Southeast
- 18:39Speaker 3: DC early Wednesday. Union leaders are now calling for stronger
- 18:43Speaker 3: penalties to protect transit workers. The University of Maryland's suspended
- 18:49Speaker 3: club tennis team says that it has donated money to
- 18:52Speaker 3: the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The
- 18:56Speaker 3: team was suspended after racist imagery was sent to teams
- 18:59Speaker 3: in a college park tournament in and the university says
- 19:02Speaker 3: it's investigating.
- 19:04Speaker 2: The D.C.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Council is going to be holding a public hearing at

- 19:11Speaker 3: includes changes to sales, property, and income taxes, along with
- 19:16Speaker 3: a wealth tax. And a new study finds that we
- 19:19Speaker 3: tend to judge strangers based on ourselves. Researchers say we
- 19:23Speaker 3: unconsciously use our own habits and preferences to guess what
- 19:28Speaker 3: other people like, even when we're not asked to. And
- 19:31Speaker 3: the less familiar someone is, the more we rely on
- 19:35Speaker 3: our own perspective. Forecast for today, we'll have cloudy skies.
- 19:39Speaker 3: There is a chance of some thunderstorms this evening. Highs
- 19:42Speaker 3: around 80. Right now, 63 in Falls Church.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.

- 19:56Speaker 3: So what is it?
- 19:57Speaker 2: Well, if you know the answer, call us maybe at 866-927-4361.
- 20:05Speaker 2: And you could go see Carly Rae Jepsen, the anthem,

- 20:14Speaker 3: 71% of people say they have done this while sitting
- 20:17Speaker 3: in traffic. What is it?
- 20:19Speaker 2: If you know the answer, pick up your phone and

- 20:27Speaker 2: up for grabs with your nearly impossible questions.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 20:33Speaker 2: In case you missed it, here is your question on
- 20:36Speaker 2: this Friday morning one more time.
- 20:39Speaker 3: 71% of people say they have done this while sitting
- 20:42Speaker 3: in traffic. What is it?
- 20:44Speaker 2: May 14th, Carly Rae Jepsen's going to be at the Anthem.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Thanks to Live Nation. If you want to go, those
- 20:49Speaker 2: tickets are up for grabs right now at 866-927-4361.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Who it is?
- 20:55Speaker 2: Philip from Reston, Virginia. Welcome, Philip, from Reston on this
- 21:00Speaker 2: Friday morning. Carly Rae Jepsen, the anthem, May 14th. Thanks,
- 21:04Speaker 2: Live Nation. Tickets are up for grabs. You got the question.
- 21:07Speaker 2: What's your guest this morning? Talking to yourself.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Do you often find yourself doing that while you're sitting
- 21:13Speaker 3: in traffic at a boredom or something?
- 21:15Speaker 2: No, but I do it a lot at work. Me too.
- 21:17Speaker 2: I just start saying the most random, ridiculous things, start
- 21:22Speaker 2: talking about inappropriate things with myself so it doesn't offend myself.
- 21:27Speaker 2: You know how it is.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Yes, sir.
- 21:30Speaker 3: 71% of people say they've done this while sitting in traffic.
- 21:33Speaker 3: And the answer does happen to be talking to themselves. So, Philip,
- 21:36Speaker 3: that means you win.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Congratulations. Awesome.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 21:40Speaker 2: You're going to Carly Rae Jepsen at the Anthem. It's
- 21:43Speaker 2: May 14th. Thanks to Live Nation. If you're listening and
- 21:45Speaker 2: you feel like maybe you need some tickets, all those
- 21:47Speaker 2: details are at washfm.com. You go in for free, amigo.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Thank you, sir. Have a great weekend and tell us
- 21:54Speaker 2: the name of the station that just hooked you up,
- 21:55Speaker 2: por favor. 97.1 Wash FM. Back Monday morning, right after
- 22:02Speaker 2: your top stories at the top of the hour around 710.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Another round of your nearly impossible question. And this coming week,
- 22:09Speaker 2: you're playing for the chance to see a really incredible band.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Matchbox 20 at Merriweather Post Pavilion, July 16th.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Listen on Monday when and the tickets are yours and
- 22:21Speaker 2: stay right there because next we got a story that
- 22:23Speaker 2: we think might just make you feel good on this Friday.
- 22:26Speaker 3: A Virginia man's free app helps EV drivers avoid broken
- 22:31Speaker 3: chargers and hidden feet.
- 22:33Speaker 2: If you own a fully electric vehicle, you're going to
- 22:36Speaker 2: love this story, and we think that it might just
- 22:38Speaker 2: make you feel good on a Friday here at 97.1
- 22:40Speaker 2: Wash FM. Toby and Chili in the morning in the
- 22:43Speaker 2: Commonwealth of Bogot, Virginia, there is a data scientist, and
- 22:46Speaker 2: he has created a free app to help you, electric
- 22:50Speaker 2: vehicle driver, you EV driver, you, to avoid charging station headaches. Now,
- 22:56Speaker 2: his name is Sam Caddick. He got this idea when
- 22:59Speaker 2: he was looking around online and he saw complaints, complaints
- 23:02Speaker 2: from drivers who get to charging stations, then find that
- 23:05Speaker 2: they're occupied or that they're not working. They're out of
- 23:08Speaker 2: service or that there's no basic amenities like bathrooms and
- 23:12Speaker 2: whatnot nearby.
- 23:13Speaker 3: So he created a. new website, EV Plug Finder. And
- 23:17Speaker 3: basically it pulls information from OpenStreetMap and the Department of Energy.
- 23:21Speaker 3: It also lets drivers share real-time updates, rate charging stations,
- 23:26Speaker 3: and they report prices. So those prices expire after two hours.
- 23:30Speaker 3: They help drivers get more accurate picture of what they're
- 23:32Speaker 3: going to end up paying. And that includes some unexpected costs.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Like one driver discovered a supposedly free charger came with
- 23:40Speaker 3: a $ 10 garage parking fee.
- 23:42Speaker 2: And that would be quite the surprise, especially if you
- 23:46Speaker 2: weren't expecting it. You're like, what? So Sam's working to
- 23:49Speaker 2: make sure that those kinds of extra charges are visible
- 23:52Speaker 2: up front. And the site, it launched just a few
- 23:55Speaker 2: weeks ago. Already, it's attracted 500 visitors, mostly coming to
- 24:00Speaker 2: it through Facebook groups, which is a great thing. Drivers,
- 24:03Speaker 2: you don't need an account for the app. There's no
- 24:06Speaker 2: ads on the app, so they're not going to try
- 24:07Speaker 2: to suggest certain places where you should go to charge
- 24:11Speaker 2: to try to make money off of you. And it's
- 24:13Speaker 2: a great, great thing.
- 24:15Speaker 3: And drivers can even plan road trips and find convenient
- 24:18Speaker 3: charging stops along the way. So Sam hopes that this
- 24:20Speaker 3: free tool will help EV drivers make better decisions and
- 24:23Speaker 3: also avoid those unpleasant surprises when they do plug in.
- 24:26Speaker 2: And how can that not make you as an EV
- 24:29Speaker 2: driver feel good on this Friday? By the way, have
- 24:32Speaker 2: you checked to see how your charge is doing? All right, then.
- 24:35Speaker 2: When you get to the office, you need to take
- 24:36Speaker 2: a look for this app because Sam made it for you.
- 24:39Speaker 2: And if you need to read even more about it,
- 24:41Speaker 2: you want the links, we got you covered. Toby and
- 24:43Speaker 2: Chili page, washfm.com.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Remember, that's EV Plug Finder.
- 24:47Speaker 2: EV Plug Finder. Download it today wherever you get your apps.
- 24:52Speaker 2: We're Toby and Chili in the morning. Stay with us.
- 24:54Speaker 2: The news, top stories at the top of the hour,
- 24:56Speaker 2: right around 8, 10. Chili, what's going on?
- 24:59Speaker 3: A new survey reveals just how much happens in our
- 25:02Speaker 3: bed over the course of a year. Now get your
- 25:05Speaker 3: mind out of the gutter. I'm going to break it
- 25:07Speaker 3: down for you coming up in just a few minutes.
- 25:09Speaker 2: People who love Halloween and have the kids that love
- 25:12Speaker 2: the animals and trick-or-treating, this is the weekend to get
- 25:16Speaker 2: to the Smithsonian Zoo downtown.
- 25:19Speaker 3: That's because it's Boo at the Zoo today through Sunday
- 25:22Speaker 3: where you can be trick-or-treating near the animals. There's even
- 25:25Speaker 3: a magic show and a dance party.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Boo!
- 25:28Speaker 2: At the zoo. Will we see you there? Kenny Loggins
- 25:33Speaker 2: at 97.1 Wash FM.
- 25:35Speaker 6: 97.1 WASH FM, Washington.
- 25:37Speaker 1: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 25:41Speaker 1: the hour.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Three children and a teacher are dead after a shooting
- 25:45Speaker 3: at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon. We've got the
- 25:48Speaker 3: latest on that story and others on the way. With
- 25:51Speaker 3: Toby and Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 25:59Speaker 3: Three children and a teacher are dead after a shooting
- 26:02Speaker 3: at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon. Police say the
- 26:06Speaker 3: 16-year-old suspected gunman was killed by a bystander. Another teacher
- 26:10Speaker 3: and student were also hospitalized with critical injuries. The president
- 26:14Speaker 3: has reversed his plans to live stream Nadel Hassan's execution,
- 26:18Speaker 3: citing concerns that were raised by others. Hassan killed 13
- 26:22Speaker 3: people at Fort Hood back in 2009. WSSC Water says
- 26:27Speaker 3: that a power outage at its Potomac water filtration plant
- 26:30Speaker 3: last month left some Montgomery and Prince George's County residents
- 26:34Speaker 3: just hours away from losing water. So the utility is
- 26:37Speaker 3: now urging people to store a gallon per person per
- 26:41Speaker 3: day for at least three days. The National Park Service
- 26:45Speaker 3: is asking for public input on a plan to restore
- 26:48Speaker 3: an eroding stream in northwest D.C. Erosion along Pinehurst Branch
- 26:53Speaker 3: has exposed sewer pipes, locked down trees, and also threatened
- 26:56Speaker 3: trails and roads. And sediment is also flowing into Rock Creek,
- 27:00Speaker 3: affecting water quality. Fairfax County schools currently have about 4,300
- 27:06Speaker 3: fewer schools now than they did back in June. That's
- 27:09Speaker 3: a 22 point, I should say, a two and a
- 27:11Speaker 3: half percent drop. And the superintendent says fewer students are
- 27:15Speaker 3: moving into the area, which is prompting the district to
- 27:18Speaker 3: shift existing staff instead of hiring more. And a new
- 27:22Speaker 3: survey reveals just how much is happening in our bed
- 27:25Speaker 3: over a year. We hit the snooze button 402 times.
- 27:30Speaker 3: We drink 103 cups of coffee in bed. We have
- 27:33Speaker 3: 13 couples arguments and 202 intimate moments. And by the way, 57%
- 27:40Speaker 3: of people say their bed is where they feel the
- 27:42Speaker 3: most relaxed. Forecast for today, we've got cloudy skies, a
- 27:46Speaker 3: chance of storms tonight with highs around 80. Right now,
- 27:50Speaker 3: 64 in Clarksburg.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Remember, you get the news. Top stories at the top
- 27:54Speaker 2: of the hour right around 10 past every weekday morning
- 27:57Speaker 2: with 97.1. Watch FM. Tell me in Chile in the morning.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Grab the phone and call right now, 866-927-4361. If you
- 28:05Speaker 2: could be trapped someplace, anywhere, for an extended amount of time,
- 28:09Speaker 2: like maybe a day or so, a full day, Where
- 28:12Speaker 2: would you want to be trapped and why? Let's talk,
- 28:15Speaker 2: shall we? 866-927-4361. You could be trapped someplace for a day.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Where would you want to be trapped and why? Toby
- 28:25Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning at 97.1 Wash FM. Call
- 28:28Speaker 2: right now and join the conversation. It comes up because
- 28:32Speaker 2: in England, there was a family of six that got
- 28:36Speaker 2: themselves locked into someplace.
- 28:41Speaker 3: With them it was two women and four kids and
- 28:43Speaker 3: they panicked when they found out all the exits were
- 28:45Speaker 3: dark and locked so they did what most of us
- 28:47Speaker 3: would do no not call the cops they went on
- 28:49Speaker 3: facebook and asked for help and help did arrive they
- 28:52Speaker 3: were in there about 40 minutes and the reason the
- 28:54Speaker 3: staff didn't realize they were there is because they were
- 28:56Speaker 3: in a part of the zoo i guess that was
- 28:57Speaker 3: overlooked but also they had arrived like with a bus
- 29:00Speaker 3: so there was no car in the parking lot I mean,
- 29:03Speaker 3: it's not a terrible place to be trapped because there's
- 29:05Speaker 3: entertainment for the kids until help arrives. You can just
- 29:08Speaker 3: keep looking at the animals and whatnot. That's true.
- 29:10Speaker 2: I mean, it's only 40 minutes. You can take in
- 29:12Speaker 2: the pandas at our zoo, and you can take in
- 29:15Speaker 2: the llamas and emus. I mean, I could see that
- 29:18Speaker 2: that would be a fun way to pass the time.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Where would you want to be trapped, Chili, if you
- 29:22Speaker 2: could be trapped anywhere? Costco. No question.
- 29:24Speaker 3: There's a place for me to lay down and sleep
- 29:26Speaker 3: on a sectional couch, plenty of food, and in Virginia,
- 29:28Speaker 3: plenty of adult beverages. Thank you very much. And let's
- 29:30Speaker 3: not forget— I can have myself a really nice soft serve.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Same thing with you guys in D.C., Montgomery County. Can
- 29:38Speaker 2: you catch up when it comes to the Costco sort
- 29:40Speaker 2: of shenanigan situation?
- 29:41Speaker 3: Where would you like to be trapped?
- 29:42Speaker 2: I would want to be trapped. I think Nats Park,
- 29:45Speaker 2: because then I would go see everything I don't typically
- 29:47Speaker 2: get to see. Like I would go back into the
- 29:49Speaker 2: clubhouse and I would look at all their stuff.
- 29:51Speaker 3: You're assuming all the doors are unlocked.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Well, I'm assuming. Like I said, and then the players,
- 29:55Speaker 2: you know, they got their clubhouse. I would not mind
- 29:57Speaker 2: being in a baseball player's clubhouse. I could find some things, baseballs,
- 30:01Speaker 2: little souvenirs and accoutrements. So where would you want to
- 30:04Speaker 2: be trapped for a day if you could? Chris in Woodbridge.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Go ahead. Oh, I have to go with a bar.
- 30:09Speaker 3: You could help yourself to a cocktail or beer.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Hey, I'm thinking you could have plenty of cocktails if
- 30:16Speaker 2: you were trapped in a bar, sir. I would love that.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Trying everything and watching sports on TV, like, what's better
- 30:22Speaker 3: than that?
- 30:22Speaker 2: Well, when you describe it like that, it doesn't sound
- 30:24Speaker 2: like there's much that's better than that. Chris, thank you
- 30:27Speaker 2: for the call this morning. To Laurel Addison, where do
- 30:30Speaker 2: you want to be trapped?
- 30:31Speaker 4: I would love to be stuck inside a movie theater.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Like, in the dark?
- 30:35Speaker 4: I would have to be able to run the projector, so.
- 30:37Speaker 3: You certainly wouldn't be bored with all those options.
- 30:40Speaker 4: I would not mind a movie marathon in a big theater.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Get me out of here. Get me the hell out
- 30:45Speaker 4: of here.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Just got the news that you need new tires, but
- 30:51Speaker 2: that money was supposed to go for Christmas travel. Well,
- 30:56Speaker 2: now you've got a situation. But maybe $ 1, 000 would help.
