- 0:23Speaker 1: and he also reflects on the song in an exclusive interview.

- 2:07Speaker 1: am your resource.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Use me. Okay, not in that way, but you know
- 2:12Speaker 2: what I mean.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Use it as a resource and more importantly, share with
- 2:15Speaker 1: people you know enjoy this kind of content. Before we
- 2:20Speaker 1: get into the show, I just want to send a
- 2:24Speaker 1: resting peace and condolences to the family of IRV Gotti.
- 2:30Speaker 1: For those who don't know, IRV Gotti passed away recently
- 2:33Speaker 1: after reportedly suffering a stroke. He was fifty four years
- 2:40Speaker 1: of age. Closely linked to the label Murder Inc obviously
- 2:46Speaker 1: with jar Ruhl and Ashanti and all of that, but
- 2:48Speaker 1: also a pivotal figure in the hip hop game as
- 2:53Speaker 1: a producer, as a DJ as a record exec that
- 2:57Speaker 1: helped the careers of jay Z.
- 3:00Speaker 2: In DMX.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And this was probably the first video that I saw
- 3:09Speaker 1: where I actually got to see who IRV Gott he was.
- 3:12Speaker 1: This is Mike Geronimo's if you're listening via audio, this
- 3:17Speaker 1: is right Mike Geronimo's It's real. I'm not this family podcast.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I Ain't Gonna Say the Word single cassette single from nineteen
- 3:26Speaker 1: ninety four on Blunt Records and IRV Gotti, who is
- 3:33Speaker 1: listed as DJ EARV for Top Dog Productions. In nineteen
- 3:41Speaker 1: ninety four, he produced his record Classic hip Hop Record
- 3:44Speaker 1: for the heads who know. If you call yourself a
- 3:47Speaker 1: head or kind of sore off, hip hop don't matter
- 3:49Speaker 1: if you're old or young or whatever. Do the knowledge
- 3:52Speaker 1: on Mike Geronimo. He was a very dope dude back
- 3:55Speaker 1: in the nineties. He did a dope drink Champs. His
- 3:58Speaker 1: first album was Crazy, But this was the single I
- 4:01Speaker 1: went and bought it back then in nineteen ninety four.
- 4:06Speaker 1: But you know, with earth Gotti, with everything that's happened,
- 4:10Speaker 1: you know, it's unfortunate when things like this happen. You
- 4:13Speaker 1: just don't know when your time will be up. You
- 4:16Speaker 1: don't know. Fifty four is young. I don't care if
- 4:18Speaker 1: you're fifteen listening to this, nineteen twenty or whatever. When
- 4:24Speaker 1: you hit fifty and somebody tell you, yeah, at fifty four,
- 4:27Speaker 1: you know you will no longer be here.
- 4:29Speaker 2: You feel like I got more time, Like what's up?
- 4:32Speaker 1: So appreciate the people around you, tell them you love them,
- 4:38Speaker 1: and appreciate the fact that you're here. You know, don't
- 4:41Speaker 1: waste any time. You know, That's kind of how I
- 4:43Speaker 1: live my life. I don't waste anytime. If there's something
- 4:47Speaker 1: fun I want to do, I'll do it. There's something
- 4:49Speaker 1: I want to experience and I have the means to experience.
- 4:52Speaker 2: It, I will do that.
- 4:54Speaker 1: If there are things I don't want to deal with
- 4:55Speaker 1: because it's negative energy, I won't because I know that
- 4:59Speaker 1: time is precious. And then IRV Gotti's short time on
- 5:04Speaker 1: this planet, he did a lot that impacted a lot
- 5:07Speaker 1: of people's lives, especially some in a positive way. So
- 5:12Speaker 1: rest in peace to him. Now, big shout out to
- 5:19Speaker 1: Hip HOPDX dot com, Hot ninety seven dot com and
- 5:24Speaker 1: a couple of places where I'm getting these stories from.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Let's get right into the business. So I talked about
- 5:34Speaker 1: this last week, The Alchemist, two Chains and Larry June
- 5:38Speaker 1: announced an album they put out late I think like
- 5:41Speaker 1: two or three singles. I think one video or two
- 5:44Speaker 1: I'm not sure, for a new collaborative album that they
- 5:48Speaker 1: had coming out called Life is Beautiful. That album has
- 5:54Speaker 1: been released. I've listened to it and this is my review.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Now.
- 6:00Speaker 1: The album is eleven songs, only thirty six minutes and
- 6:04Speaker 1: fifty three seconds. From what I could tell and what
- 6:07Speaker 1: I can remember, there are no features, but I don't
- 6:10Speaker 1: think there should be any features. Alchemi's on beats, two
- 6:15Speaker 1: Chains in nur June on the rhymes. Now, if you
- 6:18Speaker 1: know my podcast and you know my review scale, or
- 6:23Speaker 1: maybe not my scale, but my review process is three listens, right,
- 6:29Speaker 1: First listen, I'm just here to hear what's going on,
- 6:32Speaker 1: you know. Second listen, now it's time to really listen.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Let me hear with them bars sounding at least hear
- 6:38Speaker 1: what those beats sound like. How is this concept all
- 6:41Speaker 1: coming together? Is it a concept? Stuff like that? And
- 6:45Speaker 1: the third listen is really just to confirm my thoughts,
- 6:49Speaker 1: and my thoughts can be it's whack or I like
- 6:53Speaker 1: it right, so straight up for those who don't like
- 6:56Speaker 1: to hear breakdowns and stuff like that.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I was just say this, I think it's a cool album.
- 7:02Speaker 2: It's a cool album.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Early in the year that probably will people will forget
- 7:08Speaker 1: about you know, soon the minute we have bigger releases.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And it's not because the project is terrible and I'm
- 7:16Speaker 1: saying it's good. It's because we get so mu's music
- 7:20Speaker 1: within a year that unless you put something out stellar,
- 7:26Speaker 1: people will forget about it, you know, by the time
- 7:29Speaker 1: we get the end of the year and best of
- 7:31Speaker 1: the years and stuff like that. Some people, most publications,
- 7:35Speaker 1: hip hop publications do a good job of like keeping
- 7:38Speaker 1: track of some of these things. But I'll say this,
- 7:42Speaker 1: if you're not a fan of Alchemist Beats Up Today,
- 7:46Speaker 1: go on hit the exit. Fan, go ahead, get on
- 7:49Speaker 1: out of it.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Though.
- 7:50Speaker 1: If you are not a fan of Larry Jones, disinterested
- 7:54Speaker 1: rap staff, go and leave, man, while you're still here,
- 7:57Speaker 1: just get out this go man, we don't need you.
- 8:00Speaker 1: You're off the clock. If you're not a I ever
- 8:03Speaker 1: been a fan of Two Chains, why are you here? Okay, So,
- 8:09Speaker 1: if you don't like any of these guys and you
- 8:11Speaker 1: don't like any of their output, don't go and listen
- 8:15Speaker 1: to one track just so you can justify like not
- 8:18Speaker 1: liking them. You didn't like them anyway, Okay, Now if
- 8:21Speaker 1: you're cool with them or you're a big fan, you
- 8:24Speaker 1: may like this.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Me I can't say I'm the biggest Two Chains fan.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I wasn't a fan like that in his early stages,
- 8:32Speaker 1: but then he showed me like he could spit when
- 8:35Speaker 1: he's done features and stuff like that, so I like
- 8:38Speaker 1: him a little bit more now. Alchemist goes without saying
- 8:41Speaker 1: I've always liked Alchemists. I don't necessarily like everything he
- 8:45Speaker 1: does on the production side nowadays, but sometimes it's cool.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Sometimes it's blah, Right, Mary June, I'm not a fan
- 8:54Speaker 1: of the disinterested flow, But again, like I said last.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Week, when he did.
- 9:01Speaker 1: One of the albums, I think it was in twenty
- 9:03Speaker 1: twenty three that he dropped where the beats will more
- 9:07Speaker 1: like ride to West Coast sounding, you know, or down
- 9:12Speaker 1: south really, but probably West Coast more than anything sounding
- 9:15Speaker 1: beats that I think fit Flow so much that I
- 9:19Speaker 1: dug it it was cool. This project is along those lines.
- 9:25Speaker 1: To me, I think there are no real surprises or
- 9:29Speaker 1: standouts on the production, but that doesn't mean it's all bad.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Some beats are better than others. Larry Jun's performance is
- 9:38Speaker 1: better in some cases than others. Right, one minute, he
- 9:42Speaker 1: can sound like he's high out his mind, the next
- 9:44Speaker 1: minute he sound kind of cool.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Two Chains is just vibrant, like he exudes personality in
- 9:54Speaker 1: his bars, And I think that's what helps me enjoy
- 9:57Speaker 1: this project a little bit more, because if Alchemist is
- 10:01Speaker 1: on his dreary drugged out.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I'm not saying they drugged out, but that's how it sounds. Right.
- 10:06Speaker 2: It sounds like everybody hi.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Right, if his beats sound like that, and then Larry
- 10:11Speaker 1: June sounds like that, I'll be bored very quick, you know.
- 10:16Speaker 1: But I think because Two chaines in there, there's something.
- 10:20Speaker 1: His ROMs are interesting, right, he just says interesting stuff. Now,
- 10:25Speaker 1: if you're barking and you like YO and it's like
- 10:28Speaker 1: Ransom album, no it's not. It's not for you go
- 10:32Speaker 1: over there and do hip hop calculations. This is for
- 10:36Speaker 1: everybody who want to cool out.
- 10:38Speaker 2: So in general, it's a cool album. It's cool, you know,
- 10:43Speaker 2: it's no big deal.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I just feel like, especially for me, we're about to
- 10:49Speaker 1: get a whole bunch of albums heading into the spring,
- 10:53Speaker 1: and forget about the year, and I just feel like
- 10:56Speaker 1: this is not an album that at any point, once
- 10:59Speaker 1: we start to get other music as quick as like
- 11:02Speaker 1: next week, that I'm gonna go back to, you know.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And I don't know if that's the worst thing in
- 11:09Speaker 1: the world, but I think for some people this might
- 11:12Speaker 1: be cool. You may listen to it more than I do.
- 11:15Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying. I'm saying. That's That's all I'm
- 11:19Speaker 1: saying about it. Next story. So recently I listened to Well,
- 11:27Speaker 1: first of all, shout out to Neltron who sent me
- 11:30Speaker 1: the interview that who did the interview? I was gonna
- 11:35Speaker 1: say Rick Ross, but it's not Rick Rubin. Rick Rubin's podcast,
- 11:41Speaker 1: which I love what he does with his commercials or ads.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I love the style of it, Like if that's creative,
- 11:50Speaker 1: I might bite that, just do it in a different way.
- 11:53Speaker 1: But he did an interview with Riza and it was
- 11:59Speaker 1: like a two hour into And usually when I see
- 12:01Speaker 1: stuff like that, I'm like, I don't know, you know,
- 12:03Speaker 1: because I was around I know enough about Riza to
- 12:07Speaker 1: not sit there and wait to hear things I haven't heard.
- 12:12Speaker 1: But I heard a lot that I hadn't heard from
- 12:16Speaker 1: Risen I think mainly because maybe he was comfortable and
- 12:20Speaker 1: who he was talking to, and he was sharing a
- 12:24Speaker 1: lot of info. Now for those wondering, shout out to
- 12:28Speaker 1: kill who asked me this, No, he didn't talk about
- 12:31Speaker 1: the flood because it happened and those.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Records are going, so I think.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I think in some cases he gets tired of talking
- 12:39Speaker 1: about him because maybe maybe it hurts right to lose
- 12:42Speaker 1: all of that, But it'd be dope.
- 12:46Speaker 2: If he like kept the damaged stuff.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And then technology got to a point where they were
- 12:52Speaker 1: able to by magic ormost or whatever, was able to
- 13:00Speaker 1: like fix some of it. You know, maybe we get
- 13:04Speaker 1: the original to Cal album the Inspected, that album we wanted,
- 13:08Speaker 1: but that's not happening. But the interview was great, and
- 13:11Speaker 1: there was one part in that interview where Rizzi said,
- 13:15Speaker 1: we got an announcement coming up this year. The Wu
- 13:19Speaker 1: has an announcement, so stay tuned for that. And I
- 13:22Speaker 1: remember I kept thinking, and I might have said this
- 13:25Speaker 1: on my preview shot. I was like, man, I think
- 13:29Speaker 1: the Woo won't drop an album, like because it's been
- 13:32Speaker 1: a while. Well it's been almost a decade since the
- 13:37Speaker 1: last time the Wu Tang Clan dropped an album, and
- 13:40Speaker 1: now they have announced a brand new album and check
- 13:44Speaker 1: out the title Black Sampson the Bastard Swordsman from the
- 13:50Speaker 1: Wu Tang The Saga Continues collection. That's a crazy long title,
- 13:57Speaker 1: but that feels like if it feels like the Wool
- 14:00Speaker 1: is back, you know. This is on hip Hop dx
- 14:03Speaker 1: dot com. The project will be released on Record Store Day,
- 14:08Speaker 1: April twelfth.
- 14:10Speaker 2: That's not that far and.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Feature contributions from all living members of the legendary rap group.
- 14:17Speaker 1: The twelve track LP is in its entirety produced by Mathematics.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Mathematics does a great I'm a pause right here, but
- 14:30Speaker 1: Mathematics does a great job of making Wu Tang sound
- 14:36Speaker 1: and beats. He really does. Butans woof fans want to
- 14:44Speaker 1: hear entirely produced by the Riza. Now, I will say this.
- 14:50Speaker 1: He talked a lot about his early days and what
- 14:55Speaker 1: he was always trying to do. He was always trying
- 14:58Speaker 1: to get to the next level. He never wanted to
- 15:01Speaker 1: make anything that sound like the old stuff. If you
- 15:04Speaker 1: listen to that interview, you could hear it when he
- 15:07Speaker 1: says it. He is not interested in rehashing sounds and
- 15:11Speaker 1: flavor from the original Wu albums. He'd rather have somebody
- 15:18Speaker 1: like Mathematics who can do that stuff and then maybe
- 15:22Speaker 1: he helps tweak if he's executive producer or whatever.
- 15:27Speaker 2: But this is somewhat disappointing.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I think honestly, I think Mathematics produced the best WU
- 15:36Speaker 1: album in years, which was The Saga Continues in twenty seventeen.
- 15:41Speaker 1: To me, that was like the best sounding WU album
- 15:43Speaker 1: in years. So it's not a bad thing that he's
- 15:46Speaker 1: producing the whole album. I just wish one time Rizzo
- 15:50Speaker 1: would say I'm just gonna try to, you know, jump
- 15:55Speaker 1: in that bag that I was in back then and
- 15:57Speaker 1: create sounds in that vein bugle whatever.
- 16:03Speaker 2: What else, which means there are no ris a beats.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Speaking to variety, Mathematics detailed the thinking behind a unique title. Well,
- 16:10Speaker 1: the album has a certain feel to it. It's the
- 16:13Speaker 1: Omas Black's votation movies. You have movies like Black Samson,
- 16:17Speaker 1: Black Sees Us, and Superfly. Those are the types of
- 16:21Speaker 1: movies that I was raised on in the nineteen seventies.
- 16:25Speaker 1: The Fastest Swordsman part of the title is an old
- 16:30Speaker 1: to the old Karate Flecks because that's what I grew
- 16:33Speaker 1: up on as well with me as well as the
- 16:36Speaker 1: Wu Tang that's something we had in common. We all
- 16:39Speaker 1: love the old karate flex. Fastest Swordsman is one of
- 16:43Speaker 1: my favorites, and he I'm not gonna I don't want
- 16:47Speaker 1: to read the whole article. Yeah, we're just gonna leave
- 16:50Speaker 1: it alone. We're gonna leave it alone, right there. My
- 16:53Speaker 1: thoughts on it. I'm not mad, and I'm looking forward
- 16:58Speaker 1: to it again. If you haven't heard Wu Tang Klan's
- 17:01Speaker 1: twenty seventeen albums Soccer continues, do yourself a favor and
- 17:05Speaker 1: go listen. It was Better than Better Tomorrow and eight
- 17:10Speaker 1: Diagrams and all them black Wu albums that you know.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I was with Ray Kwan where he like Yo, it's
- 17:16Speaker 1: not the Wo Sam, so it's in good hands production wise.
- 17:21Speaker 1: And I like the theme because I feel like people
- 17:25Speaker 1: like Ghosts, method Man, probably all of them, but Ghost
- 17:30Speaker 1: Ray especially Ghosts will thrive on an album that has
- 17:35Speaker 1: a theme like this because it's kind of the things
- 17:38Speaker 1: they've always done with their music anyway, whether they're talking
- 17:42Speaker 1: about it or in skits or sampling stuff. So I'm
- 17:48Speaker 1: definitely interested. I'm definitely looking forward to it. I'm almost
- 17:55Speaker 1: I'm almost excited, almost almost excited.
- 18:00Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 18:01Speaker 1: Are you excited for this new Wu Tang album dropping
- 18:04Speaker 1: in April on Record Store Day? You're gonna get the
- 18:06Speaker 1: vinyl in all of that, You're gonna check it out?
- 18:08Speaker 1: Or are you tapped out from the woo and you
- 18:10Speaker 1: only listen to the first two albums because maybe you
- 18:14Speaker 1: feel like those are the only ones that are good.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I don't know. Leave your comments in a comment section
- 18:18Speaker 1: below and back slip, so I don't know if you
- 18:25Speaker 1: were under a rock. But last Sunday, the Grammy Awards
- 18:31Speaker 1: took place, and as predicted in a lot of ways,
- 18:37Speaker 1: but not really but kind of sort of on this podcast,
- 18:42Speaker 1: not like us claim five Grammys, and it was. It
- 18:49Speaker 1: was incredible to witness and I don't really I don't
- 18:53Speaker 1: watch award show so I didn't really watch the award shows.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I catch the highlights.
- 18:56Speaker 1: I followed timelines of other people watching and the Grammys,
- 19:01Speaker 1: like Twitter feed and stuff like that to kind of stay.
- 19:05Speaker 2: You know, updated, but other, you know.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Obviously, there were other winners like shout out to Rhapsody,
- 19:13Speaker 1: who won a Grammy for one of her records off
- 19:16Speaker 1: her new album Do She who won a rap hip
- 19:20Speaker 1: hop album or rap Album of the Year.
- 19:23Speaker 2: But when it.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Came to the records and the video, Kendrick Lamar really won.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Five Grammys for a disc record.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And well, let's go over to what those Grammys are
- 19:37Speaker 1: for those who don't know, Best Rap performance, Right, that's
- 19:41Speaker 1: one best rap song. I believe it was the other
- 19:44Speaker 1: one best Video, Best Song, like the Song of the
- 19:50Speaker 1: Year and Record of the Year. That's crazy And some
- 19:55Speaker 1: people say, oh, well, you know what, blah blah blah.
- 19:57Speaker 1: These are not even rap. Those two aren't e the
- 20:00Speaker 1: rap categories. That means the competition was anybody, not just rappers.
- 20:07Speaker 1: And for it to be a disc record, that's also
- 20:10Speaker 1: calling Drake a pdf. Well, I mean it's unprecedented. Okay,
- 20:20Speaker 1: that's what it is. It's unbelievable. We knew the song
- 20:24Speaker 1: was popular, we knew it wasn't bots, right, bots didn't
- 20:28Speaker 1: vote Drake. I'm sorry, unless you're gonna sue them, like, oh,
- 20:30Speaker 1: they increased the box on the award shield and that's
- 20:33Speaker 1: how he got it. It is a statement that not
- 20:36Speaker 1: only did he lose, but he lost an epic fashion
- 20:42Speaker 1: A dude, thish you. He had a couple disrecords, but
- 20:45Speaker 1: he this you and one of those songs. The last
- 20:48Speaker 1: song he puts out about you wins five Grammys.
- 20:54Speaker 2: That is crazy. That that is crazy in itself. Not
- 20:57Speaker 2: an album, right, not an.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Incredible album, that whole bunch of videos blah blah blah
- 21:03Speaker 1: and just by accident, not like us as on there,
- 21:06Speaker 1: and it also wins. No the song only crazy. And
- 21:12Speaker 1: what made the situation even crazier is you and the Grammys. Man,
- 21:21Speaker 1: they must not liked it. They must not like them
- 21:23Speaker 1: because they were making sure to capture not just certain people,
- 21:30Speaker 1: but to show you that everybody was into it. Who
- 21:34Speaker 1: madded Beyonce bopping to it like yeah, this is my joint.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Taylor Swift got the broom sweep. She putting up the
- 21:43Speaker 1: glass like toasting to Kendrick. I mean, she was sout
- 21:49Speaker 1: up as she always is, but I'm saying, first of all,
- 21:53Speaker 1: go birds, I ain't playing that, you know, but I
- 21:57Speaker 1: was just looking at that like, Yo, that's that's crazy,
- 22:00Speaker 1: jay Z smiling like And then Kendrick's speech, you know,
- 22:07Speaker 1: he dedicated I think the Record of the Year to
- 22:11Speaker 1: his wife, Whitney Crip walking in well girlfriend, baby Mama.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I don't know his partner.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Crip walking in the not like us video and then
- 22:24Speaker 1: he said to jay Z, I know you like the
- 22:26Speaker 1: crip walk.
- 22:28Speaker 2: It was just.
- 22:31Speaker 1: If I'm Drake and Drake is doing a tour in Australia.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And you know, probably after because we know he watched,
- 22:39Speaker 1: We know he watched. He comes out on stage with
- 22:44Speaker 1: the if you ever saw the television series, the Netflix
- 22:47Speaker 1: series that's now on Disney Plus lou Cage where you
- 22:52Speaker 1: know his signature was like this hoodie he was wearing
- 22:55Speaker 1: and had bullet holes in it. Well, Drake came downstairs, downstairs,
- 23:00Speaker 1: was walking down to the stage at this tour in
- 23:03Speaker 1: Australia with a similar hoodie on with bullet holes in
- 23:07Speaker 1: it and smoke coming out the back. And as he's
- 23:10Speaker 1: walking down the steps, his face he looks defeated, but
- 23:15Speaker 1: you know what it is, he's playing the victim. And
- 23:17Speaker 1: again we're not going to rewrite history. Drake was asking
- 23:23Speaker 1: Kendrick for this drop. He wanted him to drop so bad.
- 23:27Speaker 1: He was trolling on ig. He was putting it in
- 23:30Speaker 1: disc records. He was like drop. They were counting down
- 23:33Speaker 1: the days to win. Kendrick driving was taking them so long.
- 23:37Speaker 1: He ain't got nothing, blah blah blah and Drake Alsto
- 23:42Speaker 1: was the one who started bringing in mentioning family names
- 23:44Speaker 1: and stuff like that, and that's how we got to
- 23:47Speaker 1: songs like not like a calling Drake a PDF.
- 23:50Speaker 2: And the thing is is he's not calling him a PDF.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Because that's the thing he feels like calling him and
- 23:56Speaker 1: it's catchy to people.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Just do this.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Doesn't mean he is, but it's just way too much
- 24:05Speaker 1: like funny business on the Internet of Drake looking like
- 24:10Speaker 1: a PDF right from way back and now he's thirty seven,
- 24:14Speaker 1: looking defeated with smoke coming out his back as he
- 24:17Speaker 1: walks down to do his own talk. It's crazy that
- 24:22Speaker 1: man is going through it. Stieg just awards like the Grammys,
- 24:28Speaker 1: basically saying, man, this song was great.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Let's give it five war. It's just crazy.
- 24:35Speaker 1: But also, Kendrick is going to be performing the halftime
- 24:41Speaker 1: show at the super Bowl. It's a bad month. It
- 24:43Speaker 1: is Black History Month, by the way, it's a bad
- 24:46Speaker 1: month for Drake. It's a bad month for Drake. So
- 24:51Speaker 1: super Bowl's coming up. Apple Music conducted an interview with
- 24:57Speaker 1: Drake I mean with Drake with Kendrick Lamar, and he
- 25:01Speaker 1: was asked a couple of questions that weren't necessarily direct,
- 25:06Speaker 1: like yo, what you think about when Drake did this,
- 25:09Speaker 1: But we're more so about the.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Song, not like us.
- 25:13Speaker 1: And you know his thoughts about winning five Grammys for
- 25:18Speaker 1: essentially a battle record, a disc record, not a beef
- 25:23Speaker 1: a battle. He said this, and I quote my intent
- 25:29Speaker 1: from day one was to always keep the nature of
- 25:31Speaker 1: hip hop as a sport. I don't care how much
- 25:35Speaker 1: MFS look at it as far as a collaborative effort.
- 25:39Speaker 1: That's cool too, But I love when artists grit their teeth.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I still watch battle raps, I still watch smack Url,
- 25:47Speaker 1: from Murder Move to Loaded Lux to tay Rock to
- 25:51Speaker 1: my bro day life. This has always been the core
- 25:54Speaker 1: definition of who I am. I don't think it was
- 25:57Speaker 1: a thing for this year. I think it was just
- 26:00Speaker 1: a continuation of what I've been doing. And then he added,
- 26:05Speaker 1: what I will say about this year is was it
- 26:09Speaker 1: was more from a space where I think a lot
- 26:12Speaker 1: of people were putting raped to the back and you
- 26:16Speaker 1: didn't see that grit, you didn't see that bite anymore. Obviously,
- 26:22Speaker 1: you can check out the interview. It's on YouTube. It's
- 26:25Speaker 1: on like Hot ninety seven joint because I think Ebro
- 26:29Speaker 1: did the interview with somebody else I forget I forget
- 26:34Speaker 1: her name.
- 26:35Speaker 2: But do we agree with him? Of course if you're
- 26:40Speaker 2: a hip hop head. Of course hip hop this is
- 26:42Speaker 2: what people. Whether you're young and you just don't know,
- 26:47Speaker 2: or you are outside of the culture. You may think
- 26:50Speaker 2: because you like the records and you followed the beef,
- 26:52Speaker 2: that you're inside, but you are outside until you are
- 26:55Speaker 2: approved by real hip hop heads. Because hip hop is
- 27:01Speaker 2: different from.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Other genres of music, it has always been about being competitive,
- 27:07Speaker 1: being the best. Sure, you can go to other genres
- 27:10Speaker 1: of music and find people who are trying to be
- 27:12Speaker 1: the best in music, but with hip hop, it's an
- 27:15Speaker 1: actual battle all the time. It's just that sometimes it
- 27:19Speaker 1: becomes a direct battle where now you have to show up,
- 27:23Speaker 1: and you have to show up. Shout out to the
- 27:25Speaker 1: YouTuber Screwface who said, you know, he says hip hop
- 27:30Speaker 1: is a sport, and he also said something I also
- 27:34Speaker 1: agree with was like Yo, before record deals, MC's battled
- 27:39Speaker 1: each other like that was commonplace. DJ's battled each other,
- 27:43Speaker 1: that was commonplace. Graffiti writers, could you know they competed
- 27:47Speaker 1: against each other break dances still, but especially before record contracts,
- 27:55Speaker 1: battled each other.
- 27:56Speaker 2: So that's all this is.
- 27:58Speaker 1: And Drake himself said on Lebron James's The Shop or
- 28:03Speaker 1: whatever that joint is called.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Podcast or whatever.
- 28:08Speaker 1: He said this following the Pusher t back and forth,
- 28:12Speaker 1: that I studied battle rap for a living. No, you're
- 28:17Speaker 1: den't now you den You watch it, you're a fan
- 28:21Speaker 1: of it. You you have triumphed at it. But when
- 28:26Speaker 1: met with guys, and I thought Meek mil was one
- 28:29Speaker 1: of those guys, but I think he was. He was
- 28:32Speaker 1: feeling himself to when he took too long and Drake
- 28:34Speaker 1: got him. But against guys who were raised in this,
- 28:39Speaker 1: and that's what Kendrick is saying. This is, this isn't new.
- 28:43Speaker 1: This is a continuation of what I've already been doing
- 28:47Speaker 1: all the time. So I think it's dope. I'm looking
- 28:50Speaker 1: forward to the halftime show on this very channel on YouTube,
- 28:55Speaker 1: and obviously the audio will be available later. Me and
- 28:59Speaker 1: a home are gonna do a reaction video to the
- 29:04Speaker 1: Super Bowl halftime show because I feel like it's gonna
- 29:08Speaker 1: be enough that a reaction is warranted. If it's not,
- 29:14Speaker 1: maybe it's just a quick pop in and yo it
- 29:16Speaker 1: was dope and blah blah blah.
- 29:18Speaker 2: But with Kendrick Lamar.
- 29:19Speaker 1: I gotta believe that it's going to be something exceptual,
- 29:24Speaker 1: exceptional because it's not just about your music with him,
- 29:28Speaker 1: it's about the visual presentation and the perponents. So coming
- 29:33Speaker 1: off of five Grammys off of this record, it's gonna
- 29:37Speaker 1: be a hell of a week.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Go birds.
