- 0:11Hello friends. It is Sean.
- 0:14Here it is Thursday and you have invited me into whatever is
- 0:20going on in your world today so that we can take the next step
- 0:25through the book of Isaiah together.
- 0:29Today we continue, as Isaiah speaks to King Ahas, saying, be
- 0:35strong, trust in God. But this is going to be so hard,
- 0:39right? You've got these incredibly
- 0:42enormous kingdoms above and below.
- 0:44You've got the Egyptian empire below, you've got the Assyrian
- 0:47empire above, you've got the growing Babylonian Empire
- 0:52beyond. And here you are, this tiny
- 0:55little offshoots Judah of the tiny little Israel.
- 0:59And you think, oh man, I really need to make an alliance with
- 1:03someone, otherwise we're just going to get squashed.
- 1:06But God says don't don't trust me.
- 1:10What a terrible situation to find yourself as a king, right?
- 1:15I'd like to think that we would trust God, but it must have been
- 1:17very difficult, and Isaiah is trying his best to convince the
- 1:21king. So let's continue hearing
- 1:24Isaiah's please, well, God's please.
- 1:26Delivered through Isaiah. As we read together Isaiah
- 1:29chapter 8, then the Lord said to me make a
- 1:43large sign board and clearly write this name on it.
- 1:47Mahashalal hush Baz. I asked Uriah the priest and
- 1:52Zechariah son of Jerakaya, both known as honest men, to witness
- 1:57my doing this. Then I slept with my wife and
- 2:01she became pregnant and gave birth to a son.
- 2:04And the Lord said, call him Ma Hashallah Hushbaz.
- 2:09For before this child is old enough to say Papa or Mama, the
- 2:14king of Assyria will carry away both the abundance of Damascus
- 2:19and the riches of Samaria. Then the Lord spoke to me again
- 2:23and said, my care for the people of Judah is like the gently
- 2:28flowing waters of Shiloa, but they have rejected it.
- 2:33They are rejoicing over what will happen to King Resin and
- 2:36King Pika. Therefore the Lord will
- 2:40overwhelm them with a mighty flood from the Euphrates River,
- 2:44the King of Assyria and all his glory.
- 2:47This flood will overthrow all its channels and sweep into
- 2:51Judah until it is chin deep. It will spread its wings,
- 2:56submerging your land from one end to the other.
- 2:59O Emmanuel. Huddle together you nations, and
- 3:03be terrified. Listen, all you lands prepare
- 3:07for battle. That you will be crushed.
- 3:09Yes, prepare for battle, but you will be crushed.
- 3:14Call your councils of war, but they will be worthless.
- 3:18Develop your strategies, but they will not succeed.
- 3:22For God is with us. The Lord has given me a strong
- 3:27warning not to think like everyone else does, he said.
- 3:31Don't call everything a conspiracy like they do, and
- 3:35don't live in dread of what frightens them.
- 3:38Make the Lord of Heaven's armies wholly in your life.
- 3:42He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make
- 3:46you tremble. He will keep you safe, but to
- 3:50Israel and Judah he will be like a stone that makes people
- 3:54stumble, a rock that makes them fall, and for the people of
- 3:58Jerusalem. He will be a trap and a snare.
- 4:02Many will stumble and fall, never to rise again.
- 4:05They will be snared and captured.
- 4:08Preserve the teaching of God. Entrust His instructions to
- 4:13those who follow me. I will wait for the Lord who has
- 4:16turned away from the descendants of Jacob.
- 4:19I will put my hope in him, I and the children the Lord has given
- 4:25me. Serve as signs and warnings to
- 4:28Israel from the Lord of heaven's armies who dwells in his temple
- 4:32on Mount Zion. Someone might say to you, Let's
- 4:36ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead
- 4:40with their whisperings and mutterings.
- 4:43They will tell us what to do. But shouldn't people ask God for
- 4:47guidance? Should the living seek guidance
- 4:50from the dead? Look to God's instructions and
- 4:54teachings. People who contradict his word
- 4:58are completely in the dark. They will go from one place to
- 5:02another, weary and hungry. And because they are hungry,
- 5:06they will rage and curse their king and their God.
- 5:10They will look up to heaven and down at the earth.
- 5:13But wherever they look, there will be trouble and anguish and
- 5:17dark despair. They will be thrown out into the
- 5:21darkness. There are so many loud voices in
- 5:35our lives, Lord, so many loud voices shouting for us to listen
- 5:39to them and follow their advice and their ways.
- 5:45Thank you for the beautiful simplicity of your message
- 5:48through this book that says come to you, trust you, listen to
- 5:57you. And you alone have the wisdom of
- 6:02the world and time, and you give it to us so that we can live in
- 6:08your way. Father, we just pray that you
- 6:13continue to shape us, that you continue to shape us to be more
- 6:19and more like Jesus through the Holy Spirit that you've given to
- 6:23us, that the fruits of that spirit.
- 6:26Would grow and shape us to be your ambassadors in the world.
- 6:33Lord, we just tune ourselves into your frequency so that it's
- 6:38only your voice and your influence that can shape us.
- 6:44And thank you for speaking to us and holding us even as we battle
- 6:49all the different voices and try to find yours.
- 6:54That's in the name of Jesus that we pray these things.
- 6:57Amen.
