- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Richard Sherman podcast. Another incredible week
- 0:08Speaker 1: of football. Make sure you hit that sub button in
- 0:11Speaker 1: that like button if you're new. What a week Mitchell,
- 0:14Speaker 1: your Detroit Lions found a way. The San Francisco 49ers
- 0:19Speaker 1: got it done. The Seattle Seahawks upset in Washington.
- 0:23Speaker 2: How you feeling?
- 0:24Speaker 3: Richard, I'm very happy the Lions got back into their
- 0:27Speaker 3: winning ways, but also concerned about the way they did it.
- 0:31Speaker 3: But like you just mentioned, there's a lot of chaos
- 0:33Speaker 3: early in this season. It's almost like these first three
- 0:36Speaker 3: weeks have been a bona fide preseason because I don't
- 0:39Speaker 3: know who's good, who's decent, who's lousy. We thought the
- 0:44Speaker 3: Seattle Seahawks were a juggernaut. Then they go on the road,
- 0:47Speaker 3: lose to the Commanders. The Raiders are 3-0. Richard, wild,
- 0:52Speaker 3: wild storylines developing in the NFL through three weeks. Let's
- 0:56Speaker 3: start with your San Francisco 49ers who improved to 3-0
- 1:01Speaker 3: at home against the Arizona Cardinals. A bit of a
- 1:04Speaker 3: shootout here. 36-30 final. The San Francisco 49ers proved to
- 1:10Speaker 3: be victorious. Richard, What stood out to you in this
- 1:14Speaker 3: game with the San Francisco 49ers coming out on top
- 1:17Speaker 3: against the Arizona Cardinals?
- 1:19Speaker 1: It's got to be Brock Purdy to start. Had another
- 1:22Speaker 1: fantastic game. I mean, not fantastic by his standards because
- 1:25Speaker 1: I'm sure he would want his completion percentage to be higher.
- 1:29Speaker 1: He was closer to 50% today. He was 15-27, but
- 1:30Speaker 1: for 297 yards, four touchdowns, 133.8 passer rating. He had two.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Runs for 34 yards. George Kittle.
- 1:41Speaker 1: George Kittle had a fantastic day. He was distributing the
- 1:45Speaker 1: ball to everybody.
- 1:46Speaker 2: He was getting it.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Jordan Watkins. Jordan Watkins was a great story of this game.
- 1:51Speaker 1: A guy that had a conversation, a real candid conversation
- 1:55Speaker 1: with Kyle Shanahan, wanting to get more time, trying to
- 1:57Speaker 1: figure out how to get on the field and make
- 2:00Speaker 1: an impact. He felt like he should be in the
- 2:02Speaker 1: lineup based on what he's done on offense. But Kyle
- 2:04Speaker 1: Shanahan let him know. That fourth and fifth receiver spot,
- 2:09Speaker 1: it's about special teams, and right now you're not doing
- 2:11Speaker 1: enough on special teams. But after a number of injuries,
- 2:14Speaker 1: he finally got an opportunity. He had two catches for
- 2:17Speaker 1: 60 yards, a really huge catch in this game. Mike
- 2:21Speaker 1: Evans continues to be consistent, but a concern in this game.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Goes out with a rib injury, doesn't return in this game,
- 2:28Speaker 1: so we got to figure out what that is. Trenton
- 2:30Speaker 1: Williams goes out. The injuries, again, starting to mount. Nicholas
- 2:34Speaker 1: John Bosa gets injured before this game even starts earlier
- 2:38Speaker 1: in the week, has a calf injury and they have
- 2:41Speaker 1: are running out of IR spots to bring back. So
- 2:43Speaker 1: they're going to keep him on the active roster. And
- 2:47Speaker 1: that weakens the team in some regards, because it's a
- 2:49Speaker 1: spot that you, you can't feel a spot that won't
- 2:52Speaker 1: be used. So then it puts more reps on other guys.
- 2:55Speaker 1: It puts guys in tougher positions, makes you lighter. Uh,
- 2:58Speaker 1: the options lighter on game day of who you can
- 3:01Speaker 1: pick from, but, His team still looks fantastic, at least offensively.
- 3:06Speaker 2: They had a great game.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey, 15 carries, 75 yards, a touchdown, four receptions,
- 3:11Speaker 1: 41 yards, continues to be a great score. Eddie Panero
- 3:16Speaker 1: hits a 57-yarder in this game, has some odd misses
- 3:20Speaker 1: on some PATs, but he's been under the weather, so
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'm sure he'll get that figured out. But the defense,
- 3:28Speaker 1: two sacks in a game. Fred Warner looked great, but
- 3:30Speaker 1: Drake Greenlaw goes out with a quad injury, another injury.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Diamador Lenore gets a little banged up, some friendly fire,
- 3:38Speaker 1: but Marquise Siegel. Marquise Siegel is another storyline that we
- 3:43Speaker 1: got to talk about. A guy who made some plays
- 3:45Speaker 1: in this game, had some PBUs, but just seems to
- 3:47Speaker 1: be ascending, seems to be figuring it out. A guy
- 3:51Speaker 1: that last year had some really good moments, but then
- 3:55Speaker 1: struggled a bit to the point where they had to
- 3:56Speaker 1: replace him. This year, it looks like he's taking another
- 3:59Speaker 1: step forward. That's been great to see. San Francisco 49ers
- 4:04Speaker 1: look good. Jacoby Brissett threw it 52 times today for
- 4:07Speaker 1: only 280 yards. That's a good game for defense. If
- 4:11Speaker 1: a quarterback throws it 52 times, it only has 280 yards.
- 4:15Speaker 1: They were playing some great coverage, a lot of checkdowns,
- 4:18Speaker 1: a lot of easy completions, 11 receptions for Michael Wilson
- 4:24Speaker 1: on 17 targets for only 89 yards. For defense to,
- 4:28Speaker 1: you know, a guy to get targeted that many times,
- 4:30Speaker 1: you get targeted 17 times and you don't have 100
- 4:32Speaker 1: yards That means the defense did a great job. So
- 4:35Speaker 1: I feel like they did a good job. The run
- 4:38Speaker 1: game is something they're going to want to clean up. Obviously,
- 4:41Speaker 1: Jeremiah Love had 21 carries for 90 yards. That's something
- 4:45Speaker 1: they have to work on. They have to get better at.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Special teams-wise, they had the muffed punt that made this
- 4:51Speaker 1: game a lot closer than it had to be. Helped
- 4:54Speaker 1: Arizona make this a game late in the game. So obviously,
- 4:58Speaker 1: the San Francisco 49ers know what they have to do
- 5:00Speaker 1: in that regard. But Trent Williams going out of this game,
- 5:03Speaker 1: Mike Evans going out of this game. It's allowing other
- 5:05Speaker 1: guys to step up. But you just hate to keep
- 5:10Speaker 1: seeing it year after year after year with really no explanation.
- 5:14Speaker 1: And I know everybody's like, oh, man, it's the power plant.
- 5:17Speaker 1: It's the substation and all that. But, I mean, it's
- 5:22Speaker 1: hard to argue it right now because it just keeps happening.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But I want to talk about that play, that hook
- 5:27Speaker 1: and ladder, Mitchell. Did you see that play to Deebo Samuel?
- 5:30Speaker 3: Of course I did, Rory. Richard, Debo Samuel is just
- 5:33Speaker 3: back in his natural habitat with the San Francisco 49ers.
- 5:37Speaker 3: And to see that creativity right out of the gate,
- 5:40Speaker 3: to him to get involved, it looks like the Debo
- 5:42Speaker 3: of old.
- 5:43Speaker 2: What a weapon.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I don't know, could you, did you imagine this when
- 5:45Speaker 3: they re-signed him? He would have this much of an
- 5:48Speaker 3: impact on the offense immediately like he is in these
- 5:51Speaker 3: first three games?
- 5:53Speaker 1: You hope for that. You hope that It goes back
- 5:56Speaker 1: to the old ways. You know, everything kind of goes
- 5:59Speaker 1: back in place, but you really never know. It's been
- 6:01Speaker 1: a fantastic, probably a fairytale start for this season for
- 6:05Speaker 1: Debo Samuel, for Kyle Shanahan. Offense is scoring a lot
- 6:09Speaker 1: of points. It looks like they're having fun for them
- 6:11Speaker 1: to run a hook and ladder that early in the
- 6:13Speaker 1: game and for it to work to perfection. I think
- 6:16Speaker 1: the last one, I mean, I know there's been a
- 6:18Speaker 1: couple in the NFL. with teams trying it. But I
- 6:21Speaker 1: think the last one I remember working that, well, Boise State.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Boise State in a Fiesta Bowl years ago, Mitchell. That's
- 6:27Speaker 1: one of the more iconic hook and ladders that I've
- 6:30Speaker 1: ever seen. But this one has to be right up there.
- 6:33Speaker 1: And they released the tight end to block the corner.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I mean, it was a marvelous play design, marvelous setup,
- 6:41Speaker 1: and marvelous execution. The San Francisco 49ers look fantastic. Brock Purdy, improved,
- 6:47Speaker 1: probably improved. He's probably got the best odds for MVP
- 6:50Speaker 1: in the league at this point because of the game
- 6:52Speaker 1: Josh Allen just had. He struggled mightily versus the L.A.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Chargers defense. Five turnovers for that offense on the day.
- 6:59Speaker 1: We'll get to that game and talk about it. But
- 7:02Speaker 1: Brock Purdy, right now, probably the league lead for the MVP.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And he deserves it. And he deserves it. I think
- 7:09Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan feels good. They got a really tough game
- 7:14Speaker 1: coming up against Denver next week. I'm looking forward to
- 7:17Speaker 1: seeing how they compete against that defense, what they can
- 7:20Speaker 1: do against that offense. This is a good team, Mitchell.
- 7:23Speaker 1: This is a good team. And with the Seattle Seahawks
- 7:26Speaker 1: losing to the Commanders, they're number one in the division.
- 7:30Speaker 2: What you gonna do? What are you gonna do, San Francisco?
- 7:33Speaker 3: And I got a good feeling they're gonna be rising
- 7:35Speaker 3: in your power rankings after this showing and seeing what
- 7:38Speaker 3: we saw in Buffalo and obviously with Seattle. But Back
- 7:41Speaker 3: to Brock Purdy, Richard. He's got a little bit of
- 7:43Speaker 3: a Steve Young in him. He can scramble. He can
- 7:46Speaker 3: move out of the pocket. He doesn't show it a ton.
- 7:49Speaker 3: But for that George Kittle holding call at the 5-yard line,
- 7:53Speaker 3: he would have added another one on the ground. Brock
- 7:55Speaker 3: Purdy continues to shine for this San Francisco 49ers team
- 8:00Speaker 3: who are battling injuries, like you said. But he is
- 8:02Speaker 3: that glue that is holding this team together. And you've
- 8:05Speaker 3: got to love to see George Kittle looking healthy early
- 8:08Speaker 3: after coming off that Achilles injury. It looks like George Kittle,
- 8:12Speaker 3: it's safe to say he is back to full strength.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Such a weapon for the San Francisco 49ers team. I'm
- 8:18Speaker 3: going to be contemplating putting them number one in my
- 8:20Speaker 3: power ranks.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Too, Richard.
- 8:22Speaker 3: They just look like they deserve to be that spot.
- 8:24Speaker 3: And I'm excited to see what they do against Denver
- 8:26Speaker 3: next week. That's going to be a matchup to keep
- 8:28Speaker 3: our eyes on. Because Denver, another solid powerhouse kind of
- 8:33Speaker 3: team out of the AFC. We shall see. Let's talk
- 8:36Speaker 3: a little bit about Seattle. I mean, this was the
- 8:38Speaker 3: stunner of the weekend. Obviously, we saw Green Bay get
- 8:41Speaker 3: destroyed on Thursday Night Football. But if you would have
- 8:44Speaker 3: told me Seattle was going to go on the road
- 8:46Speaker 3: to the Commanders and take an L with Marcus Mariota
- 8:49Speaker 3: at the helm for the Commanders, I would be absolutely
- 8:53Speaker 3: in disbelief. And I am in disbelief right now, having
- 8:56Speaker 3: watched that game. Obviously, Sam Darnold coming back from injury,
- 9:00Speaker 3: you know, looked a little rusty in that first half.
- 9:02Speaker 3: He threw two interceptions. But when the going got tough,
- 9:05Speaker 3: he started giving the ball to his main man, JSN,
- 9:08Speaker 3: and they got back into this game and looked like
- 9:10Speaker 3: they had life. Richard, this Seattle Seahawks team has looked
- 9:14Speaker 3: so dominant over the last calendar year. What gives with
- 9:19Speaker 3: this game? How does this happen? Well, it's the early turnovers.
- 9:24Speaker 1: It was a rainy game, and there's no excuse. The rookie,
- 9:26Speaker 1: Jadarian Price, fumbles the ball. First drive of the game
- 9:29Speaker 1: puts the Commanders in it. And sometimes a team in
- 9:32Speaker 1: the National Football League, you give them life early. You
- 9:34Speaker 1: start to make them, allow them to believe they have
- 9:37Speaker 1: a chance to win. And they never lost that momentum.
- 9:40Speaker 1: The Washington Commanders, coached by Dan Quinn, were well prepared
- 9:43Speaker 1: in this game. They played really well early on. You
- 9:47Speaker 1: got to give Marcus Mariota a ton of credit. He
- 9:49Speaker 1: came into this game well prepared. He executed the plan.
- 9:53Speaker 1: He was 19 of 31, 183 yards and three touchdowns.
- 9:57Speaker 1: versus a very, very formidable... Seattle Seahawks defense. And he
- 10:04Speaker 1: made them look bad. I mean, he made them look bad.
- 10:07Speaker 1: No ifs, ands, and buts about it. They were giving
- 10:09Speaker 1: up eight and a half points per game coming into
- 10:11Speaker 1: this game. They gave up 33. And this is the
- 10:14Speaker 1: most the commanders have scored this season. And this is
- 10:17Speaker 1: with Jaden Daniels. playing in the other games. So obviously
- 10:22Speaker 1: this gives Mike McDonald a coaching, you know, some coaching points,
- 10:28Speaker 1: some things to point out, and it humbles this defense
- 10:30Speaker 1: a little bit, probably gets them hungrier throughout the season.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Sometimes you need that. Sometimes you get punched in the mouth,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and you got to understand that, hey, you can't just
- 10:38Speaker 1: float into games and expect it to just go well.
- 10:42Speaker 1: You got to make enough plays. Obviously, Julian Love was
- 10:45Speaker 1: out of this game, and they had to play Finley,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and Finley had his struggles. They attacked him multiple times
- 10:52Speaker 1: in the red zone, and, you know, they were able
- 10:54Speaker 1: to make some plays. They were attacking the middle of
- 10:56Speaker 1: the field, I think, a lot more than they would
- 10:58Speaker 1: have if Julian Love would have played. Nick Amonwori got
- 11:01Speaker 1: in this game, but he went out with a hamstring injury.
- 11:04Speaker 1: But if you had told me that Sam Darnold was
- 11:07Speaker 1: going to throw for 374 yards and four touchdowns, I
- 11:10Speaker 1: would have expected them to win this game. If you
- 11:12Speaker 1: told me Jackson Smith and Chigba was going to have
- 11:14Speaker 1: 10 catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns, I would
- 11:18Speaker 1: have thought they were going to win this game. If
- 11:19Speaker 1: you would have told me Cooper Cup, four catches, 46 yards,
- 11:22Speaker 1: and a touchdown, it sounds like the offense did what
- 11:24Speaker 1: they needed to do.
- 11:26Speaker 2: But it's the turnovers. You had three turnovers in this game. Critical.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Critical turnovers.
- 11:33Speaker 1: And the defense didn't make enough plays on the other side.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I don't think they made enough plays, and if you
- 11:39Speaker 1: look at the game and if you watch the game,
- 11:41Speaker 1: they never looked like they were in command. The offense
- 11:44Speaker 1: got going in a great way in the second half,
- 11:46Speaker 1: but those turnovers, unexpected things, just unexpected, uncharacteristic turnovers that
- 11:54Speaker 1: you just can't have, and obviously you expected some rust
- 11:57Speaker 1: for Sam Darnold, but you can't depend on him like this.
- 12:00Speaker 1: The run game, has to get going, and they have
- 12:03Speaker 1: no semblance of a run game right now. And I
- 12:05Speaker 1: think that's their biggest issue, and I've talked about this
- 12:07Speaker 1: before last season, and people are like, oh, it's okay.
- 12:11Speaker 2: They'll figure it out.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And last season, Kenneth Walker figured it out throughout the playoffs,
- 12:16Speaker 1: and that is what propelled them to the Super Bowl.
- 12:19Speaker 1: They are going to have to figure this run game out.
- 12:21Speaker 1: They set Jadarian Price for, I think, almost a quarter
- 12:24Speaker 1: and a half, two quarters after he fumbled the football
- 12:27Speaker 1: for good reason. You can't fumble the football in this
- 12:29Speaker 1: National Football League. and he's had two fumbles already in
- 12:32Speaker 1: his career. It's only been three games into his career
- 12:35Speaker 1: in the National Football League.
- 12:36Speaker 2: That's not a good thing.
- 12:37Speaker 1: When you start to have that reputation, guys are going
- 12:41Speaker 1: to go harder to try to pull the ball out,
- 12:44Speaker 1: to try to punch the ball out. They're going to
- 12:45Speaker 1: attack the football more until he shows that he can
- 12:49Speaker 1: secure it, until he shows that he can be safer
- 12:52Speaker 1: with the football. So that's my biggest concern right now
- 12:55Speaker 1: for the Seattle Seahawks is the run game. The run
- 12:58Speaker 1: game has to get going. I thought– I think any
- 13:03Speaker 1: time you have Sam Darnold throwing it 45 times, that's
- 13:06Speaker 1: not the way that Mike McDonald wants to play. Obviously,
- 13:10Speaker 1: he doesn't want his defense giving up 33 points. I
- 13:14Speaker 1: guarantee you Mike McDonald expected, hey, if this offense scores
- 13:17Speaker 1: 31 points, we win that game. So it's kind of
- 13:21Speaker 1: back to the drawing board with some things, trying to
- 13:23Speaker 1: get some things corrected because the way the Washington Commanders
- 13:26Speaker 1: attack this secondary– attack this defense is sustainable. It's, it's
- 13:30Speaker 1: a way that other teams will attack it. And so
- 13:33Speaker 1: you have to get these things corrected really quickly, or
- 13:36Speaker 1: it could start spiraling.
- 13:37Speaker 2: You hope that, uh, that.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Nick M and worry and, and Julian love get healed
- 13:43Speaker 1: up really quickly because they are very pivotal, critical parts
- 13:46Speaker 1: of this defense.
- 13:48Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 13:48Speaker 3: And Richard, not to beat a dead horse, but I mean,
- 13:50Speaker 3: I highlighted this coming into the season. I was concerned
- 13:53Speaker 3: about this run game and what the loss of Kenneth
- 13:55Speaker 3: Walker would do to this offense. And today we saw
- 13:58Speaker 3: just that. Without Kenneth Walker, without a reliable veteran in
- 14:03Speaker 3: that backfield, questions start to arise. 18 carries for 44 yards.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I mean, this is a team that's used to pounding
- 14:09Speaker 3: the rock ever since the Marshawn Lynch era, since the
- 14:13Speaker 3: Sean Alexander era. You know, they don't have that bell
- 14:15Speaker 3: cow right now. And that's my one concern point with
- 14:18Speaker 3: the Seattle Seahawks team. I don't want it to become
- 14:21Speaker 3: their Achilles heel. So they got to fix something here.
- 14:24Speaker 3: is Zach Charbonnet going to be able to give him
- 14:26Speaker 3: some relief at the midway point of the season? Maybe
- 14:29Speaker 3: he's someone that will help. But to your point, Jadarian
- 14:32Speaker 3: Price being a rookie and having fumbling issues out of
- 14:34Speaker 3: the gate, what does that do to this guy's confidence?
- 14:38Speaker 3: Those are major question marks going forward. Do I think
- 14:40Speaker 3: Seattle's out of the spotlight? Absolutely not. I think they're
- 14:45Speaker 3: still one of the top five teams in this league.
- 14:47Speaker 3: They've got a defense that just showed up and didn't
- 14:50Speaker 3: play their A game. And got beat. I mean, bottom line.
- 14:53Speaker 3: I don't know how difficult it is, Richard, in your
- 14:56Speaker 3: time playing football. But we see it time and time again.
- 14:58Speaker 3: And I know you've talked about it previously. How difficult
- 15:02Speaker 3: is it for a team that is based on the
- 15:05Speaker 3: West Coast to go to the East Coast and play
- 15:07Speaker 3: that one o'clock hour game? How big of a role
- 15:10Speaker 3: does that play with just your natural instincts and sleep patterns?
- 15:15Speaker 1: Is that a big issue? Well, I wouldn't say it's
- 15:18Speaker 1: a big issue. It's something to consider. It's something to
- 15:21Speaker 1: think about. But you've got to also understand that Mike
- 15:24Speaker 1: McDonald teams were, over the last, what, 18 road games,
- 15:30Speaker 1: they were 16-2. So it's not like they've played games
- 15:34Speaker 1: at this point before. They prepared the same way. And
- 15:38Speaker 1: they're human. Sometimes you just have a bad day. Sometimes
- 15:41Speaker 1: you have a bad time. Sometimes you're not playing well,
- 15:45Speaker 1: and they didn't play well. And the Washington Commanders had
- 15:47Speaker 1: their numbers. This is the pros. The other team gets paid, too.
- 15:50Speaker 1: And the Washington Commanders went out there and executed their
- 15:53Speaker 1: game plan. They played inspired football, and they deserved the win.
- 15:57Speaker 1: You looked at Terry McLaurin made huge plays in this game.
- 16:00Speaker 1: You looked at the play in the end zone. Incredible plays.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I thought there were some really questionable calls. I thought
- 16:07Speaker 1: one of those unnecessary roughnesses on a very critical third
- 16:11Speaker 1: down where they got the football, Finley hit Terry McLaurin
- 16:15Speaker 1: and pulled the ball out. and they gave him the
- 16:17Speaker 1: first down because they said it was unnecessary roughness, and
- 16:19Speaker 1: Terry McLaurin drops the crown of his helmet and puts
- 16:22Speaker 1: it into Finley's chest. And Finley, I mean, it's a
- 16:24Speaker 1: bang-bang play. There was nothing... I don't think there was
- 16:28Speaker 1: nothing intentionally, demonstratively wrong with the way Finley attacked it.
- 16:35Speaker 1: It's just one of those plays, and I think it's
- 16:37Speaker 1: one of those plays where if you look at it
- 16:39Speaker 1: and the league looks at it carefully, you might see
- 16:41Speaker 1: Terry McLaurin get fined on that play for.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Crowning the helmet.
- 16:45Speaker 3: And so.
- 16:46Speaker 1: it's really frustrating to see plays like that really have
- 16:49Speaker 1: such a tremendous impact on the game because you're like,
- 16:52Speaker 1: if Seattle gets that stop, they're off the field. It was,
- 16:55Speaker 1: I think it was third and 13 and it's now
- 16:57Speaker 1: it's automatic first down on a, on a call that
- 16:59Speaker 1: the defender literally couldn't do anything about it. He runs
- 17:02Speaker 1: over there, puts his chest on there, knocks the ball out.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Everybody's standing up at the end. It's not like Terry
- 17:08Speaker 1: McLaurin's knocked out or, or, or concussed or anything like that. It,
- 17:13Speaker 1: It just seemed like a football play that didn't need
- 17:15Speaker 1: to be called, and it had a big impact on
- 17:17Speaker 1: the game.
- 17:19Speaker 3: One little note before we leave this game here. They're
- 17:22Speaker 3: already starting conversations in Seattle. Mike McDonald has confirmed that
- 17:26Speaker 3: Zach Charbonnet might be back at practice next week, starting his.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Window to return.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Richard, how big of a boost do you think Zach
- 17:33Speaker 3: Charbonnet would be to this offense?
- 17:36Speaker 1: It'll be somewhat of a boost, but it's not just...
- 17:40Speaker 1: Right now, they're not opening the holes. You know, there's
- 17:43Speaker 1: fundamental problems in the run game, and obviously Brian Fleury
- 17:46Speaker 1: is going to do everything he can to get them solved.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Mike McDonald is going to ask the questions and make
- 17:51Speaker 1: sure they get solved because you're going to need to
- 17:53Speaker 1: run the football. They play the L.A. Chargers next week,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and that defense hasn't been the greatest, but it's really talented.
- 18:01Speaker 1: And if you watch how they played against the Buffalo
- 18:03Speaker 1: Bills this week, five turnovers. They caused five turnovers. They
- 18:07Speaker 1: can cause problems. They can cause chaos. And they can
- 18:10Speaker 1: be very opportunistic. And so you have to be able
- 18:13Speaker 1: to run the football. You have to be able to
- 18:15Speaker 1: shave some time off the clock. You know what the
- 18:17Speaker 1: best defense in the National Football League is?
- 18:21Speaker 2: It's time, Mitchell. It's a run game. It's, hey, we
- 18:23Speaker 2: are not on the field very often.
- 18:25Speaker 1: If you're on the field 25 minutes, Mitchell, you have
- 18:28Speaker 1: a higher propensity to play great defense. I guarantee you
- 18:31Speaker 1: that because you're not on the field as long. And
- 18:33Speaker 1: when you're on the field 35 minutes, 36 minutes, 32 minutes,
- 18:37Speaker 1: It's going to lead to more yards and more mistakes.
- 18:39Speaker 1: You're out there longer. They're getting more possessions. They're getting
- 18:42Speaker 1: more drives. They're running more plays. And so that was
- 18:45Speaker 1: a bit of an imbalance in this game. And again,
- 18:48Speaker 1: I don't want to take anything away from the Washington
- 18:51Speaker 1: Commanders because they went out there and executed.
- 18:53Speaker 2: They earned this win.
- 18:53Speaker 1: This wasn't any luck of the draw or, hey, man,
- 18:57Speaker 1: the ball bounced this way or, man, they got in. No,
- 19:00Speaker 1: they thoroughly outplayed the Seattle Seahawks on defense. And they
- 19:03Speaker 1: earned this win. So give them a tremendous amount of credit.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I look for the Seattle Seahawks to bounce back next week.
- 19:09Speaker 1: But we're going to see. I want to take a
- 19:12Speaker 1: second to tell you about this new sports trading app
- 19:15Speaker 1: called Polymarket. It's the best new way to trade in sports.
- 19:19Speaker 1: In the past, if you wanted action on a game,
- 19:21Speaker 1: you'd put some money in. And if your team was
- 19:24Speaker 1: doing well and you wanted to cash out, they'd lock
- 19:27Speaker 1: the trade or take a huge fee.
- 19:29Speaker 3: But Polymarket is a prediction market, Richard. It's a stock
- 19:32Speaker 3: exchange for sports. Buying in and selling out on your terms.
- 19:37Speaker 3: When your team goes down to 20%, you can buy
- 19:40Speaker 3: in and sell it off at 40% when they come
- 19:42Speaker 3: back to double your money.
- 19:45Speaker 2: And I've tried them all. And Polymarket is simply the
- 19:47Speaker 2: best prediction market. Better than Dropbox.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Better than FanDuel, Cowsheet, you name it. They're so confident
- 19:55Speaker 1: that you'll never go back to the other guys. They're
- 19:57Speaker 1: giving you a free $ 50 on your first trade when
- 20:01Speaker 1: you deposit just $ 10.
- 20:03Speaker 3: And now they've launched a new feature called Squads, a
- 20:06Speaker 3: group chat where you can see what everyone is trading on.
- 20:09Speaker 3: So download the Polymarket app today and use code Richard.
- 20:14Speaker 3: That's Richard to get $ 50 free after you trade just $ 10.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Football is back.
- 20:21Speaker 2: And if you're getting ready for the season, pull up
- 20:23Speaker 2: to your local Lids.
- 20:25Speaker 1: The exclusive 47 NFL collection is available only in store
- 20:30Speaker 1: at Lids. And this gear is the gear you're going
- 20:33Speaker 1: to need if you're going all in all season. And listen,
- 20:57Speaker 1: I know a little something about being all in. The
- 20:59Speaker 1: Legion of Boom energy, it was not casual. We didn't
- 21:03Speaker 1: walk on the field hoping people noticed us. We set
- 21:06Speaker 1: the tone. We brought the energy. We made sure everybody
- 21:10Speaker 1: knew exactly who they were dealing with. Football isn't just
- 21:30Speaker 1: a Sunday thing.
- 21:31Speaker 2: It's a rivalry. It's tradition. It's pride.
- 21:35Speaker 1: It's who you are all week long. So don't wait
- 21:38Speaker 1: until kickoff to get ready. Pull up to Lids and
- 21:41Speaker 1: go all in, all season, only in store at Lids.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Well, Richard, let's take it to my hometown of Detroit,
- 21:49Speaker 3: a team that needed to bounce back after a rough
- 21:51Speaker 3: showing on Thursday night football against the Bills. The Detroit
- 21:54Speaker 3: Lions come home and face an old friend, an Aaron Glenn.
- 21:58Speaker 3: the former DC for the Detroit Lions. This Jets team
- 22:02Speaker 3: is scrappy, Richard, with Geno Smith at the helm. You
- 22:06Speaker 3: get to see some flair again with the Jets. They
- 22:09Speaker 3: got some good young talent. I mean, Garrett Wilson, Kenyon Sadiq,
- 22:12Speaker 3: Brees Hall watching him. He's so shifty and crafty. You know,
- 22:16Speaker 3: this Jets team is not as bad as people think.
- 22:19Speaker 3: That being said, Detroit scared the living heck out of me.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Up 16 points in the fourth quarter. They inevitably allow
- 22:27Speaker 3: Geno Smith and the Jets-led offense to come back, tie
- 22:30Speaker 3: the game up, and then Detroit has to scramble. They
- 22:33Speaker 3: rely on their bell cow, Jameer Gibbs, run it down
- 22:37Speaker 3: late and score the touchdown. And then ultimately, the guy
- 22:41Speaker 3: we've been questioning, everyone in Detroit's been questioning, you've been questioning,
- 22:45Speaker 3: Kelvin Shepard, the D.C. for the Detroit Lions, dials up
- 22:48Speaker 3: a beautiful blitz to end this game, sacking Geno, ultimately
- 22:52Speaker 3: leading to a turnover and fumble recovery by Jack Campbell.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Impressive stuff at the end of this game. Richard, I
- 23:00Speaker 3: got a wild stat for you from Jared Goff. He
- 23:04Speaker 3: threw for 25 out of 32, 269, two touchdowns, zero interceptions,
- 23:09Speaker 3: a 122.5 passer rating. He becomes the sixth QB in
- 23:14Speaker 3: NFL history to start the first three games of the
- 23:17Speaker 3: season with 800 yards passing, eight passing touchdowns, no interceptions,
- 23:23Speaker 3: and a completion percentage of 70% or greater. Jared Goff
- 23:27Speaker 3: was a story in this game. I mean, he got
- 23:30Speaker 3: everyone involved. He's such a consistent and reliable force in Detroit,
- 23:35Speaker 3: and he's somebody they've leaned on. How impressed were you
- 23:38Speaker 3: with what you saw from this Detroit Lions offense today, Richard?
- 23:42Speaker 3: They've put up 31 points in three consecutive games led
- 23:46Speaker 3: by Jared Goff. What stands out to you about this
- 23:49Speaker 3: Detroit Lions offense? Is it enough to help them win
- 23:53Speaker 3: the North and be competitive in the NFC?
- 23:57Speaker 1: We got to wait and see. Jared Goff doesn't get
- 24:01Speaker 1: the credit he deserves. He's the best quarterback in the
- 24:03Speaker 1: NFC North, and you can argue with somebody else. Please, please,
- 24:07Speaker 1: if you get a chance, I don't care if you're
- 24:09Speaker 1: a Vikings fan, I don't care if you're a Caleb
- 24:11Speaker 1: Williams Bears fan, even if you're a Jordan Love, Green
- 24:15Speaker 1: Bay enthusiast, please go check out Jared Goff's stats and
- 24:20Speaker 1: see why he's the best quarterback in the NFC North.
- 24:22Speaker 2: And I know, I know you'll say.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Oh man, these are just inflated stats and And if
- 24:27Speaker 1: he did this, and if he would have had this,
- 24:29Speaker 1: and I don't really care about ifs. If ifs was
- 24:31Speaker 1: a fifth, Mitchell, we'd all be drunk. He has played
- 24:35Speaker 1: at a consistently high level for the Detroit Lions, even
- 24:38Speaker 1: in a down year. Last year was considered a down
- 24:41Speaker 1: year for them. And I think he still threw for
- 24:42Speaker 1: close to 4,500 yards, 30, 35, 36 touchdowns, only 10
- 24:43Speaker 1: or 12 interceptions.
- 24:44Speaker 2: And it's a down year.
- 24:52Speaker 1: And I think that's the part that gets overshadowed. He
- 24:55Speaker 1: keeps this team afloat. He keeps this offense going. Obviously,
- 24:58Speaker 1: Jameer Gibbs made some incredible plays today. That touchdown run
- 25:02Speaker 1: where he reversed field, cut back Mitchell. There's only a
- 25:05Speaker 1: couple guys in the league that could do that. I
- 25:07Speaker 1: think it's him, maybe James Cook. Obviously, Bajon, you know,
- 25:13Speaker 1: some really special human beings that could get that done.
- 25:16Speaker 1: But he had a really fantastic game. Two touchdowns on
- 25:18Speaker 1: the ground. eight, seven catches for 65 yards and a
- 25:22Speaker 1: touchdown through the air. But my concern is, is this
- 25:27Speaker 1: kind of defense sustainable? Obviously give Kelvin Shepard a lot,
- 25:30Speaker 1: a lot of credit because they've had their struggles in
- 25:33Speaker 1: the secondary. And I thought they were battling today, but
- 25:36Speaker 1: you got to bring more pressure. And that's what he did.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Five sacks of Gino Smith, but Gino was also 31
- 25:41Speaker 1: to 37 for three 21 and three touchdowns with 129.8
- 25:42Speaker 1: quarterback rating. So But when they needed a play, they
- 25:51Speaker 1: made it. And sometimes that's the kind of defense you have.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Can you battle? Can you scrap? Can you fight?
- 25:55Speaker 1: Can you make a play when your team needs it?
- 25:57Speaker 1: Can you get that one stop to give your offense
- 26:00Speaker 1: a chance to win the game? And if they can
- 26:02Speaker 1: play defense like that, they deserve a ton of credit.
- 26:05Speaker 1: But it's to be seen. They got a tough season.
- 26:08Speaker 1: They're in a tough division. But right now they're tied
- 26:10Speaker 1: for the– no, they're not. Right now they're battling. They're battling.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I want to see how they play against Chicago. I
- 26:18Speaker 1: want to see how they play against Minnesota.
- 26:20Speaker 2: And we'll see.
- 26:22Speaker 1: This NFC North is going to be way more competitive
- 26:25Speaker 1: than people think. Obviously, the Green Bay Packers look like
- 26:28Speaker 1: they're having a down year. There's no answers walking through
- 26:31Speaker 1: that door with the offensive line.
- 26:32Speaker 2: They're really banged up.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Jordan Love is under consistent pressure. So I'm not looking
- 26:39Speaker 1: for them to do anything. The Minnesota Vikings... are battling.
- 26:43Speaker 1: They look like they're a defense first team, defense and
- 26:46Speaker 1: run the football. Kyler Murray gave them a little bit
- 26:48Speaker 1: of a spark today, but we'll see. I think Detroit
- 26:52Speaker 1: is the most complete team, the team I trust the
- 26:54Speaker 1: most in this division, and we'll see if they can
- 26:57Speaker 1: pull it out.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Richard, to just highlight what you said there, I mean,
- 27:02Speaker 3: my main concern with this team is obviously the defensive secondary.
- 27:05Speaker 3: They're front seven. They got after the quarterback today. DJ
- 27:08Speaker 3: won them. They brought him over. He was formerly opposite
- 27:11Speaker 3: of Danil Hunter with the Minnesota Vikings. You know, he
- 27:14Speaker 3: had two sacks today. Aleem McNeil had a sack today,
- 27:17Speaker 3: fresh off the ACL tear. He was not the same
- 27:19Speaker 3: guy last year. Great to see him back. You know,
- 27:22Speaker 3: obviously Aiden Hutchinson getting after the quarterback. That's all great
- 27:25Speaker 3: and grand. But Richard, I think it's safe to say
- 27:28Speaker 3: their entire secondary, I don't know if there's one guy
- 27:31Speaker 3: opposite of maybe DJ Reed that is an above average quarterback.
- 27:37Speaker 3: player in that room if Detroit really wants to get
- 27:40Speaker 3: competitive in my eyes as a fan they need to
- 27:43Speaker 3: make a big splash play maybe it's Joey Porter Jr.
- 27:46Speaker 3: with the Pittsburgh Steelers you know if Detroit wants to
- 27:49Speaker 3: get after it this year and be Super Bowl contenders
- 27:52Speaker 3: they need to address opposite of DJ Reed it is
- 27:55Speaker 3: unfair to him he's taking flags downfield on PIs they're
- 28:00Speaker 3: basically all cards in on Brian Branch coming back and
- 28:03Speaker 3: being the same guy he was without his Achilles injury
- 28:06Speaker 3: Questions are in the air about Kirby Joseph and his
- 28:08Speaker 3: long-term health. Can he play again? We shall see. But
- 28:11Speaker 3: there's more questions than answers in this secondary for the Lions.
- 28:15Speaker 3: That's my main concern. We'll see how they handle it
- 28:18Speaker 3: going forward, Richard. But that is a big point of
- 28:21Speaker 3: emphasis that needs to be addressed mid-season if the Lions
- 28:24Speaker 3: want to be competitive in my eyes.
- 28:27Speaker 1: And I think the only way you do that, I mean,
- 28:28Speaker 1: Joey Porter is probably the only one who's available for
- 28:31Speaker 1: that kind of trade. And if the Pittsburgh Steelers are
- 28:33Speaker 1: playing well, and they played well today, their defense has
- 28:35Speaker 1: been playing well, I don't think he's going to be
- 28:37Speaker 1: as available as you want, unless you give them an
- 28:39Speaker 1: offer they can't refuse. And I don't know if Detroit
- 28:42Speaker 1: has ever really operated in that way where they're trying
- 28:45Speaker 1: to give a King's ransom during the season while also
- 28:48Speaker 1: paying the guy a ton of money. So I don't
- 28:52Speaker 1: know if I would hold my breath for that kind
- 28:53Speaker 1: of big transaction Mitchell, but who knows, who knows the
- 28:56Speaker 1: NFL is crazy and crazier things have happened. They were
- 28:59Speaker 1: able to get home. You got to give Kelvin Shepard credit.
- 29:02Speaker 1: They were able to get home when they needed to.
- 29:04Speaker 1: They put a lot of pressure on Gino. And I think, Again,
- 29:08Speaker 1: I feel great for Geno and the New York Jets.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I think they played great offensively. I thought they gave
- 29:13Speaker 1: themselves a chance. They've been playing better defensively, and we'll
- 29:18Speaker 1: see if that can continue. We'll see if they can
- 29:20Speaker 1: string together some wins, but I don't know if you
- 29:23Speaker 1: can put this one on Geno at all. I think
- 29:25Speaker 1: the Detroit Lions offense is just a great unit who's
- 29:28Speaker 1: going to put up points, and they're a tough unit
- 29:30Speaker 1: to keep up with.
- 29:31Speaker 3: And before we leave this game, it looks like the
- 29:34Speaker 3: Jets hit hit big in the draft Kenyon Sadiq the
- 29:36Speaker 3: rookie tight end out of Oregon huge game today touchdown
- 29:41Speaker 3: seven receptions 105 yards that's big for the rookie gives
- 29:45Speaker 3: Geno Smith a reliable target I think the Jets could
- 29:47Speaker 3: be competitive this year Richard six seven wins it's a
- 29:51Speaker 3: long season but they have the pieces in place I
- 29:54Speaker 3: don't know if this next game is more shocking about
- 29:58Speaker 3: the outcome or how bad a certain team played. The
- 30:02Speaker 3: Jacksonville Jaguars decimated the New England Patriots 35-6. We saw
- 30:09Speaker 3: Drake May struggle mightily. He struggled throughout this entire season.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Seven turnovers through the first three games of the season.
- 30:18Speaker 3: They go on the road and they were in a
- 30:20Speaker 3: position to make this game close. They turn over the ball.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Inside the five-yard line, they missed field goals. I mean,
- 30:26Speaker 3: this was just a nasty game for the Patriots. Richard,
- 30:31Speaker 3: I called their run last year a little bit of luck.
- 30:35Speaker 3: I mean, we talked about it all last season, about
- 30:37Speaker 3: how cupcake their schedule was, including in the playoffs, having
- 30:40Speaker 3: to play a Bo Nixless Denver Broncos en route to
- 30:44Speaker 3: go to the Super Bowl. Richard, are the New England
- 30:49Speaker 3: Patriots lucky? Or are they good? Because that's the main
- 30:53Speaker 3: question we've got to answer here. 1-2 to start the season.
- 30:57Speaker 3: It tells me they were a lot more lucky last
- 30:59Speaker 3: year than they were good. What are your thoughts on
- 31:01Speaker 3: this team after they get blown out by the Jaguars 35-6?
- 31:05Speaker 1: I thought they had favorable circumstances last year. Obviously, that's
- 31:10Speaker 1: proving itself to be true. I thought Drake May played
- 31:13Speaker 1: above what people thought he would play. And right now,
- 31:17Speaker 1: he's kind of come back to earth. He's got seven
- 31:20Speaker 1: turnovers and only one touchdown in the first three games
- 31:23Speaker 1: of the season. That's a high level. That's something to
- 31:25Speaker 1: be highly concerned about. Defenses have figured him out. And
- 31:28Speaker 1: I thought after what the Seahawks were able to do
- 31:32Speaker 1: to him in the Super Bowl and able to put
- 31:34Speaker 1: him in binds and make him think and make him
- 31:37Speaker 1: process faster than he wanted to and make him force
- 31:40Speaker 1: him into mistakes, people see that on tape. They have
- 31:44Speaker 1: a year's worth of tape. on Drake May and his
- 31:47Speaker 1: habits and the things he does well and the things
- 31:49Speaker 1: he doesn't do well. And if you can force him
- 31:52Speaker 1: in positions that he's uncomfortable with, he's going to struggle.
- 31:56Speaker 1: And teams have continually done that. They were the best
- 31:59Speaker 1: team in their division. They won their division last year.
- 32:02Speaker 1: That gets you a tougher schedule. And this tougher schedule
- 32:04Speaker 1: is costing them. The Jacksonville Jaguars have a really aggressive
- 32:08Speaker 1: and opportunistic defense. Travis Hunter got a pick today. Travis
- 32:11Speaker 1: Hunter got a pick. Shout out to Travis Hunter. I
- 32:14Speaker 1: was very excited and happy to see that. But a
- 32:18Speaker 1: Drake May interception in the end zone. They're going to score.
- 32:21Speaker 1: They're closing in. They got some hope. And again, it
- 32:24Speaker 1: gets extinguished really quickly. And that's happened time and time again.
- 32:28Speaker 1: And again, on the other side of the football, their defense.
- 32:31Speaker 1: They had some guys that were just hungry. Young guys,
- 32:36Speaker 1: old guys, veteran guys who made plays, who may have
- 32:38Speaker 1: played a little bit higher than than maybe they normally play.
- 32:42Speaker 1: They may have been playing a little bit better than
- 32:44Speaker 1: they normally play. And right now, they aren't.
- 32:47Speaker 2: They aren't.
- 32:48Speaker 1: They were playing great complementary football last year. Right now,
- 32:51Speaker 1: they are not. It's tough to watch sometimes. And if
- 32:54Speaker 1: you look, Trevor Lawrence played a solid game. He didn't
- 32:57Speaker 1: play an outstanding game. He didn't play his best game.
- 33:01Speaker 1: But it was enough. He did it with his legs,
- 33:04Speaker 1: with his arms. He made the plays they needed to make.
- 33:07Speaker 1: He was 19-29, 182, three touchdowns. one interception, but they
- 33:12Speaker 1: have a great receiving core that puts a lot of
- 33:14Speaker 1: stress on the defense and they keep finding ways to
- 33:17Speaker 1: get it done. And on the other side, they have
- 33:20Speaker 1: guys that take the football away. They have a defense
- 33:23Speaker 1: that has consistently, they did a great job taking the
- 33:25Speaker 1: ball away last year. They're doing a great job of
- 33:28Speaker 1: taking the ball away this year, three turnovers in this game.
- 33:31Speaker 2: And I think.
- 33:32Speaker 1: This is going to be a big wake-up call for
- 33:35Speaker 1: the New England Patriots because they You got Buffalo next week.
- 33:39Speaker 1: You got Buffalo. Things aren't getting easier. Things aren't getting
- 33:42Speaker 1: any easier going forward. And after, you know, one and four,
- 33:48Speaker 1: right now you're one and two. You know, you could
- 33:51Speaker 1: have a big game next week, get to two and two,
- 33:53Speaker 1: and kind of quiet some of the doubters. But if
- 33:55Speaker 1: you get to one and three, one and four, one
- 33:57Speaker 1: and five, and Drake May doesn't start to play better,
- 33:59Speaker 1: there are going to be some really, really tough questions
- 34:02Speaker 1: that Mike Vrabel is going to have to answer. Going
- 34:04Speaker 1: to have to answer. What are we doing at the
- 34:06Speaker 1: quarterback position? Is Drake May the answer? And this sounds
- 34:09Speaker 1: crazy coming off an all-pro campaign that he had last year.
- 34:13Speaker 1: I think he was second in MVP voting last year.
- 34:15Speaker 1: So to go from second in MVP voting to starting
- 34:18Speaker 1: to question if he's the answer going forward, it's quite
- 34:22Speaker 1: the drop.
- 34:24Speaker 3: It definitely is. This Jacksonville Jaguars team, though, Richard, they're
- 34:29Speaker 3: on the rise. I mean, they're very competitive. You already
- 34:31Speaker 3: talked about their wide receiving room. James Gladstone, the young
- 34:34Speaker 3: 36-year-old GM, has taken some massive swings early on in
- 34:38Speaker 3: his tenure there in Jacksonville. And he's hit a lot
- 34:41Speaker 3: of homers. I mean, Jacoby Myers, we saw him pick
- 34:43Speaker 3: him up at the trade deadline last year. Another great
- 34:45Speaker 3: game today. Seven receptions, 64 yards, and a touchdown. Bashawl
- 34:50Speaker 3: Tootin looks like a steal for them in the draft
- 34:52Speaker 3: last year. 15 carries, 73 yards, and a touchdown. A
- 34:55Speaker 3: lot of weapons on this team. A hungry defense that
- 34:58Speaker 3: causes turnovers. Richard, I like Jacksonville and the AFC. They
- 35:01Speaker 3: might be the surprise team this year. There's someone to
- 35:03Speaker 3: keep an eye on. They play the Cincinnati Bengals next week.
- 35:07Speaker 3: So we shall see about them. And speaking of Cincinnati, Richard,
- 35:12Speaker 3: you elevated them to the top five, the number five
- 35:15Speaker 3: spot in your power ranks. And I was singing their
- 35:17Speaker 3: praises all preseason and coming into the season. And I
- 35:21Speaker 3: was riding on my high horse two weeks into the season.
- 35:24Speaker 3: I mean, Richard Sherman agreed with me, man. I convinced you,
- 35:27Speaker 3: you know. They let you down. They let me down
- 35:30Speaker 3: on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers. We saw a
- 35:33Speaker 3: little bit of Aaron Rodgers of old throwing for 292
- 35:36Speaker 3: and three touchdowns. Where do we start here, Richard? You
- 35:40Speaker 3: want to talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers or you want
- 35:42Speaker 3: to talk about the Cincinnati Bengals? I feel like we
- 35:45Speaker 3: got to talk about the Bengals and how big of
- 35:47Speaker 3: a letdown this was for you personally.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Yeah, because it just seems like same thing with the
- 35:54Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville. When I start to give
- 35:58Speaker 1: teams credit that I wasn't giving credit before, they find
- 36:02Speaker 1: a way to.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Let me down. And Aaron Rodgers struggled mightily last week,
- 36:08Speaker 2: was hit time and time again, was pressured, looked out
- 36:11Speaker 2: of sorts, got in a press conference and said, hey,
- 36:14Speaker 2: we need to call better plays.
- 36:16Speaker 1: It seemed like things were kind of falling apart for
- 36:18Speaker 1: the Pittsburgh Saints. But then fast forward this week to
- 36:23Speaker 1: the Cincinnati Bengals, and now it's like, It's like last
- 36:26Speaker 1: week never happened. Aaron Rodgers looked like vintage Aaron Rodgers. 19-34, 292,
- 36:32Speaker 1: three touchdowns and an interception. And some of those were drops.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Some of those were passes that could have easily been caught.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Jalen Warren, 17 carries, 127 yards. Like, they got the
- 36:46Speaker 1: offense going. They scored 30 points on this defense that
- 36:49Speaker 1: we were giving a ton of credit to, especially this
- 36:52Speaker 1: run defense with Jonathan Allen and Dexter Lawrence. These guys
- 36:56Speaker 1: were massive in stopping the Houston Texans last week. They
- 37:00Speaker 1: were manhandling that offensive line. And then you look up
- 37:04Speaker 1: this week and they give up 127 yards to Jalen Warren.
- 37:07Speaker 1: They look like a totally different team. So that's the
- 37:10Speaker 1: hard part about being a contender and being a championship
- 37:13Speaker 1: team is can you do it each and every week?
- 37:17Speaker 1: Can you not be content with the performance you had
- 37:20Speaker 1: last week and build on it and have another great
- 37:22Speaker 1: week and add another great week to it? And I
- 37:24Speaker 1: think This week, their offense showed up in a big way.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Joe Burrow started this game 14 for 14 and was rolling,
- 37:34Speaker 1: was striking, was looking like Joe Burrow. But now it's like, hey,
- 37:37Speaker 1: when Joe Burrow struggles, the defense steps up. And then
- 37:41Speaker 1: when the defense steps up, Joe Burrow struggles. They have
- 37:44Speaker 1: to bring it together where both sides of the football
- 37:48Speaker 1: are playing well at the same time. And I think
- 37:51Speaker 1: they're capable of that. They're figuring out how to win
- 37:55Speaker 1: and In this AFC North, it's going to be tough.
- 37:58Speaker 1: It's going to be a dogfight, especially in divisional game
- 38:01Speaker 1: against veteran quarterbacks. But this defense has shown that they
- 38:05Speaker 1: can play at a high level when they need to.
- 38:07Speaker 2: They just did not this game. But Joe Burrow did.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Joe Burrow, 28-37, 282, three touchdowns, 123.9 passer rating. Jamar Chase,
- 38:16Speaker 1: 9 for 98 and a touchdown. Tee Higgins made some
- 38:20Speaker 1: incredible catches in this game. Six catches for 90 yards
- 38:23Speaker 1: and a touchdown. Chase Brown, 13 for 61 yards on
- 38:27Speaker 1: the ground. Evan McPherson was two for two. Their defense,
- 38:31Speaker 1: only two sacks, one takeaway, and didn't stop the run.
- 38:35Speaker 1: They're priding themselves on stopping the run. That's what this
- 38:39Speaker 1: defense said they were priding themselves on. We're not giving
- 38:41Speaker 1: up the run, and Pittsburgh did that. So, obviously, it's
- 38:45Speaker 1: a humbling game. It's a game that sends you right
- 38:47Speaker 1: back to the drawing board, that sends you right back
- 38:49Speaker 1: to the practice field to get these things corrected. But
- 38:52Speaker 1: they've also shown that– what they're capable of. So that's
- 38:56Speaker 1: the hard part. When you show that you're capable of
- 38:59Speaker 1: playing at such a high level, then that's the expectation
- 39:01Speaker 1: each and every week. Whether you meet it or not,
- 39:04Speaker 1: you've shown people that, hey, we can be a dominant defense.
- 39:07Speaker 1: And when you're not, there's going to be criticism.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Richard, one player that really stood out to me this
- 39:13Speaker 3: game is Darnell Washington. The left tackle they have lined
- 39:17Speaker 3: up at tight end for Pittsburgh. I mean, Richard, this
- 39:19Speaker 3: guy is massive. Guys are bouncing off of him like
- 39:23Speaker 3: ping pong balls. It's crazy to me. We saw him
- 39:28Speaker 3: break three, four tackles and rumbles. down the field throughout
- 39:31Speaker 3: your playing days who would you say is the most
- 39:34Speaker 3: difficult human being to tackle that you have faced because
- 39:37Speaker 3: I got to believe this guy certainly takes that cake
- 39:41Speaker 3: right now in the NFL I would.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Say Gronk Derrick Henry you know just the big guys
- 39:46Speaker 1: they're big strong uh Steven Jackson, that was a big guy. Yeah,
- 39:55Speaker 1: there were some guys that were very heavy and tough
- 39:58Speaker 1: to tackle. Megatron, Megatron just big and lanky. Julio Jones,
- 40:03Speaker 1: but he's obviously one of those guys where, you know,
- 40:06Speaker 1: you got legs like tree trunks, he's tough to tackle.
- 40:09Speaker 1: But one negative thing that I have about the Pittsburgh
- 40:13Speaker 1: Steelers is DK Metcalf. Like, they need him to show
- 40:17Speaker 1: up in a bigger way. They paid him a lot
- 40:19Speaker 1: of money. And even in this win, you look, and
- 40:21Speaker 1: it's three catches on five targets for 31 yards. He
- 40:25Speaker 1: did have the touchdown, but he just has not looked
- 40:27Speaker 1: the same since last year, and I just can't quite
- 40:30Speaker 1: put my finger on it. We have them this week
- 40:33Speaker 1: in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, at Cleveland on Thursday Night Football. Check
- 40:36Speaker 1: us out, 7 p.m. Eastern, 4 p.m.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Pacific.
- 40:40Speaker 1: TNF tonight, you guys got to be there. I'm going
- 40:42Speaker 1: to be there or be square. We'll watch this Pittsburgh team.
- 40:45Speaker 1: We'll watch– Cleveland Browns team that's won two games this season.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson starting to show flashes. Deshaun Watson starting to
- 40:56Speaker 1: show flashes of who he used to be. And can
- 41:02Speaker 1: they win? Can they win this game? Is Aaron Rodgers
- 41:05Speaker 1: going to show up? Who's going to win this game?
- 41:07Speaker 1: Two teams that are actually playing better than I think
- 41:10Speaker 1: people expected them to play this season. Both teams will
- 41:12Speaker 1: come into this game 2-1 with a chance to to
- 41:17Speaker 1: at least tie the division lead with the Baltimore Ravens
- 41:21Speaker 1: going in there and getting that win in Brazil against
- 41:23Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys, and quite the thriller, quite the shootout.
- 41:28Speaker 1: It had its own share of controversy and controversial calls,
- 41:32Speaker 1: and we'll talk about that game later, but Aaron Rodgers
- 41:35Speaker 1: showing up in a big way, but DK Metcalf, if
- 41:38Speaker 1: they can get DK Metcalf back going, if they can
- 41:41Speaker 1: get him to really, really start buying in and start
- 41:44Speaker 1: playing like he did before, I think they got a
- 41:48Speaker 1: really great chance to win the, the, the, the North,
- 41:51Speaker 1: but it's going to go through Baltimore.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Another team in the North, the Cleveland Browns, and you
- 41:58Speaker 3: just touched on them. I mean, they have got to
- 42:00Speaker 3: be outside of the Raiders. One of the biggest surprise
- 42:03Speaker 3: starts starting two and one. Um, yeah, Carolina, you know,
- 42:06Speaker 3: the finish with a losing record last year, but ultimately
- 42:09Speaker 3: won their division. They're a tough team led by a
- 42:11Speaker 3: young quarterback and Bryce young, who's starting to come on here, uh,
- 42:14Speaker 3: early in the season. Um, I think the story here
- 42:18Speaker 3: is Deshaun Watson. I mean, right, he, nothing crazy, 16
- 42:23Speaker 3: of 30, 144 yards, two touchdowns, but he's getting active
- 42:26Speaker 3: on the ground. I mean, 11 carries, 45 yards, he's
- 42:29Speaker 3: stretching plays out. Harold Fannin, and I know you talked
- 42:32Speaker 3: about him a couple podcasts ago. You like his game,
- 42:34Speaker 3: the young tight end out of Bowling Green, seven receptions
- 42:37Speaker 3: for 51 yards and two touchdowns. How far can this
- 42:41Speaker 3: Cleveland Brown team go? Do you view them as a
- 42:43Speaker 3: possible candidate to win this AFC North after two back-to-back
- 42:47Speaker 3: impressive wins these last couple weeks?
- 42:51Speaker 2: They definitely have a chance.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Their defense has always been their calling card, especially over
- 42:56Speaker 1: the last few years. But a big part of that
- 42:58Speaker 1: was Myles Garrett, and they traded him away to the
- 43:01Speaker 1: LA Rams for some picks and some, you know, a
- 43:05Speaker 1: lot of people questioned that move.
- 43:07Speaker 2: I was one of them.
- 43:08Speaker 1: But they're still playing great defense. They still have a
- 43:10Speaker 1: great secondary. Denzel Ward continues to play at a very,
- 43:13Speaker 1: very high level. That defense revolves around him and his play.
- 43:17Speaker 1: They have Jared Burst now. That's the guy they traded
- 43:20Speaker 1: for Miles Garrett. He makes his impact. They were able
- 43:23Speaker 1: to get after this Carolina Panthers offense three sacks on
- 43:27Speaker 1: a day, and this Carolina Panthers offense has been thriving
- 43:30Speaker 1: this season. They've been scoring points left and right over
- 43:32Speaker 1: 30 points a game, and they held them to 18 points.
- 43:35Speaker 1: And I know people are so used to kind of
- 43:38Speaker 1: writing the Carolina Panthers off, and they're nothing, and Bryce
- 43:42Speaker 1: Young hasn't been playing that well, but that hasn't been
- 43:45Speaker 1: true to start this season. Bryce Young has been playing great.
- 43:48Speaker 1: That receiving core has been making big plays, but the
- 43:51Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns stopped them.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Stopped them in their tracks.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Now, Bryce Young still had 291 yards passing, but on
- 43:58Speaker 1: 48 attempts. He had 48 attempts through the ball, 48 times.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Chubba Hubbard, 19 carries for 82 yards. They were making
- 44:06Speaker 1: some hay on the ground, but at the end of
- 44:09Speaker 1: the day, Deshaun Watson made enough plays, hit Harold Fanning
- 44:13Speaker 1: on that play, kind of a broken play, a scramble drill,
- 44:16Speaker 1: going to his left, came back. Again, he's starting to
- 44:19Speaker 1: show flashes. He's looking like vintage Deshaun Watson. And I
- 44:24Speaker 1: know it wasn't a world-beating day. He didn't throw for
- 44:26Speaker 1: a ton of yards, right around 50% for completion percentage.
- 44:29Speaker 1: He was 16 of 30, 144 yards, two touchdowns. But
- 44:34Speaker 1: He didn't turn the football over, and that's a big
- 44:36Speaker 1: deal in the National Football League. If you're not turning
- 44:38Speaker 1: the football over, Quenshawn Judkins, 18 carries for 70 yards,
- 44:42Speaker 1: not world-beating stats, but they were overall able to run
- 44:45Speaker 1: the ball for 132 yards, control the game, control the clock,
- 44:49Speaker 1: and make enough plays defensively to get it done. And
- 44:52Speaker 1: when they needed a first down, when they needed a play,
- 44:55Speaker 1: they went to Harold Fanning or Deshaun Watson did it
- 44:57Speaker 1: with his legs. They were making the plays, and I
- 45:00Speaker 1: know the Cleveland Brown fans have been so frustrated with
- 45:03Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson. so frustrated with everything that they ate. They
- 45:06Speaker 1: paid him all this money, and they haven't got to
- 45:08Speaker 1: see the fruits of their labor, and they want to
- 45:10Speaker 1: boo him. He's giving them reasons to cheer. He's giving
- 45:14Speaker 1: them reasons to have hope in this season, and I
- 45:17Speaker 1: think that's all you can ask for as a franchise.
- 45:19Speaker 1: I know that the expectations weren't very high for the
- 45:21Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns coming into this year, and Deshaun Watson is
- 45:25Speaker 1: going out there and fighting, and his team is fighting,
- 45:28Speaker 1: and so you've got to give him some credit for that.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Well, the NFC South, kind of tying in Carolina here,
- 45:37Speaker 3: they've started out through collectively 12 games this season. They
- 45:40Speaker 3: are three and nine, Richard. I've got to send like
- 45:44Speaker 3: just some kind of alert out there. Will someone step
- 45:47Speaker 3: up in the NFC South and show some sort of relevance?
- 45:50Speaker 3: I mean, we saw the New Orleans Saints who looked
- 45:53Speaker 3: halfway decent through first two games. You know, they lose today.
- 45:56Speaker 3: They take one out of the chin to the Raiders.
- 45:58Speaker 3: I mean, Here's Carolina, time to step up and start
- 46:01Speaker 3: the season 2-1. They lose to the Browns. The only
- 46:04Speaker 3: team that looked halfway decent, and more than halfway decent,
- 46:07Speaker 3: is the Atlanta Falcons. This division, I don't know if
- 46:11Speaker 3: I've seen anything like it, Richard. 3-9 to start the season.
- 46:15Speaker 3: It's year after year after year. The NFC South, somebody
- 46:20Speaker 3: step up, please. Speaking of stepping up, Justin Herbert. Will
- 46:26Speaker 3: you please step up? Because your LA Chargers team is
- 46:29Speaker 3: now 0-3, losing on the road to the Buffalo Bills,
- 46:34Speaker 3: a team that their defense gave to you on a
- 46:37Speaker 3: silver platter, forcing five turnovers. They can still not get
- 46:42Speaker 3: it done. The Buffalo Bills spotted you 10 points to
- 46:45Speaker 3: start this game. You end it on a 24-6 run. Richard,
- 46:50Speaker 3: talk to me. How concerned would you be If you
- 46:55Speaker 3: were in that front office in Chargersville, in L.A., with
- 46:59Speaker 3: Justin Herbert as your starting quarterback going forward?
- 47:02Speaker 1: If I was Jim Harbaugh, I'd be concerned. Because all
- 47:06Speaker 1: I'm hearing from the men and women on various big
- 47:09Speaker 1: network platforms, big platforms, defending Justin Herbert is that the
- 47:14Speaker 1: problem is everyone but Justin Herbert. that we aren't watching
- 47:20Speaker 1: enough film. That's what Charger fans tell me. I watched
- 47:22Speaker 1: almost every play of this game. Now, did I see
- 47:25Speaker 1: some throws that he made that were fantastic, that were, oh,
- 47:28Speaker 1: my God, on the money, beautiful? No question about it.
- 47:32Speaker 1: You see that every game from Justin Herbert. Did I
- 47:34Speaker 1: see some plays where there was a tight window and
- 47:38Speaker 1: he might have been a hair late? And the pass
- 47:40Speaker 1: got batted away. No question about it. Did I see
- 47:43Speaker 1: some passes where he had me scratching my head and
- 47:46Speaker 1: he threw interceptions that were unnecessary and one of them
- 47:49Speaker 1: he got away with. They negated it with a holding call,
- 47:53Speaker 1: but it was an interception in the end zone. A
- 47:57Speaker 1: back-breaking play in a game like this And I keep
- 48:00Speaker 1: hearing that, oh man, if he just had this, or
- 48:03Speaker 1: if he just had that, and if he just had this,
- 48:05Speaker 1: or it's everybody else.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Everybody else is not playing well enough.
- 48:09Speaker 1: And I'm sorry that the defense that gave him five
- 48:11Speaker 1: turnovers isn't playing well enough. I'm sorry that five turnovers against...
- 48:16Speaker 1: against an MVP candidate. Some would say that the leading
- 48:19Speaker 1: MVP candidate in the national football league this season who
- 48:22Speaker 1: hadn't turned on against an offense that hadn't turned the
- 48:25Speaker 1: ball over once this season over the first two games.
- 48:28Speaker 2: And they took the ball from him five times. I'm sorry.
- 48:31Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 48:32Speaker 2: That's not enough help for Justin Herbert. I'm sorry.
- 48:34Speaker 1: The four sacks that they got weren't enough. I'm sorry
- 48:37Speaker 1: that them holding Josh Allen to a, to, 16-26 for 204,
- 48:44Speaker 1: zero touchdowns. That's just not enough help for Justin Herbert.
- 48:48Speaker 1: He's just not getting enough help from everybody else. Nobody
- 48:52Speaker 1: is doing enough in L.A. to help Justin Herbert, Mitchell.
- 48:57Speaker 1: nobody that the vendors the people cutting the field the
- 49:01Speaker 1: other team playing bad the receivers that he's dealing with
- 49:04Speaker 1: he threw an interception Mitchell and I know the offensive
- 49:07Speaker 1: coordinator didn't call a good enough play for him I
- 49:09Speaker 1: know that the defense didn't play the right coverage I
- 49:12Speaker 1: know the receiver couldn't have run the right right route
- 49:14Speaker 1: I know the offensive line didn't give him enough time
- 49:17Speaker 1: it couldn't have been it couldn't have just been just
- 49:20Speaker 1: Herbert making a bad decision. No, it cannot be because
- 49:23Speaker 1: it has to be everybody but Justin Herbert. And I
- 49:27Speaker 1: think Justin Herbert can be an elite quarterback with elite
- 49:30Speaker 1: tools and play at an elite level, but he does
- 49:34Speaker 1: not most of the time. And There are people that
- 49:38Speaker 1: will defend till the cows come home that nobody else
- 49:41Speaker 1: on the L.A. Chargers plays good football, and he does.
- 49:45Speaker 1: So in spite of that, he's losing because he has
- 49:49Speaker 1: no help. And in a game where his defense gives
- 49:52Speaker 1: him five turnovers against one of the best quarterbacks, if
- 49:55Speaker 1: not the best quarterback in the National Football League, in
- 49:57Speaker 1: Josh Allen, in Buffalo, after a six-hour flight, they're all
- 50:01Speaker 1: the way in Buffalo, brand-new stadium, a lot of noise,
- 50:04Speaker 1: a lot of chaos, defense playing well. Multiple interceptions.
- 50:11Speaker 2: It's them, Mitchell.
- 50:12Speaker 1: It's everybody but Justin Herbert. And that's where people defending
- 50:17Speaker 1: him start to sound kind of crazy. And they're like, oh, well,
- 50:20Speaker 1: why would you beat up Justin Herbert? We're not beating
- 50:23Speaker 1: up Justin Herbert. Everybody wants Justin Herbert to play well.
- 50:27Speaker 1: We don't want to criticize him. But when your team's 0-3,
- 50:31Speaker 1: you got the potential to really go realistically 0-6. And
- 50:36Speaker 1: this was a game your defense did everything possible to
- 50:41Speaker 1: put you in position to win this game, and you
- 50:43Speaker 1: did not take advantage of it. The only touchdown you had,
- 50:46Speaker 1: they gave you the ball almost in the red zone. Like,
- 50:49Speaker 1: please do score. And sure, your kicker missed a field goal.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Dicker to kicker missed one. You got to admit that,
- 50:55Speaker 1: no question about it. But it wasn't like you did
- 50:57Speaker 1: something to get them there. That was the defense giving
- 51:00Speaker 1: you just another turnover that you guys didn't convert.
- 51:03Speaker 2: And so.
- 51:07Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know what to tell Charger fans.
- 51:09Speaker 2: I don't know. You're like, well, what do we do?
- 51:11Speaker 1: Well, if you fire Jim Harbaugh, does that solve that problem? Like,
- 51:16Speaker 1: everybody wanted, oh, man, what would Justin Herbert look like
- 51:19Speaker 1: in a Kyle Shanahan offense?
- 51:21Speaker 2: Like this.
- 51:22Speaker 1: This is Kyle Shanahan offense. This is what he would
- 51:25Speaker 1: look like in it. It's not for everybody. People take
- 51:28Speaker 1: that for granted when you're talking about Brock Purdy and
- 51:30Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford and the guys who are thriving in this
- 51:32Speaker 1: Sam Darnold. Guys who have thrived in this offense, they
- 51:35Speaker 1: take it for granted that everybody, this is.
- 51:37Speaker 2: A plug-and-play offense. It is not.
- 51:40Speaker 1: And now you're like, Mike McDaniel isn't a good coordinator.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Now he stinks?
- 51:45Speaker 1: Now Mike McDaniel had Tua Tunga-Vailoa throwing for 5,000. Like,
- 51:52Speaker 1: But again, it only works if you hit your back
- 51:55Speaker 1: foot and you throw on time and you throw to
- 51:57Speaker 1: the spot that he's throwing and you layer it over linebackers.
- 52:00Speaker 1: You layer it over safeties. You throw it to the
- 52:02Speaker 1: spot your receiver's going to. It takes a lot of
- 52:05Speaker 1: trust and anticipation. It takes a lot of timing. And
- 52:08Speaker 1: sometimes you're throwing it, and Brock Purdy said this, 40%
- 52:11Speaker 1: of the time you can't even see where you're throwing.
- 52:13Speaker 1: You can't even see. You just know, hey, they're in
- 52:15Speaker 1: this coverage. My dig route should be right there. That
- 52:19Speaker 1: window should be opening. I'm throwing it and hoping that
- 52:22Speaker 1: the window that I expect to open opens. And a
- 52:24Speaker 1: lot of times it does. That's how they draw these plays.
- 52:26Speaker 1: It's on timing. It's throwing into really tight windows. And
- 52:29Speaker 1: I think people take that for granted. People take that
- 52:32Speaker 1: for granted, how tough it is to play in this offense.
- 52:35Speaker 1: That's why when you don't give a guy like Brock
- 52:37Speaker 1: Purdy credit for throwing in these very tight, small windows
- 52:41Speaker 1: that he has to throw in to operate this offense
- 52:44Speaker 1: at a high level, it's kind of frustrating. Because then
- 52:47Speaker 1: you get a guy with all the tools. all the measurables,
- 52:51Speaker 1: everything you need to play quarterback at a high level,
- 52:53Speaker 1: and he's hesitant to throw these same passes that Brock
- 52:57Speaker 1: Purdy and Stafford and Sam Darnold are throwing each and
- 53:01Speaker 1: every week.
- 53:01Speaker 2: They have to.
- 53:02Speaker 1: That's the only way you play this offense. So I
- 53:06Speaker 1: don't have a lot of great answers. I know they're
- 53:08Speaker 1: calling for Mike to get fired, for Jim to get fired,
- 53:11Speaker 1: because it's going to be everybody but Herbert, but a
- 53:14Speaker 1: little bit of it is Herbert. Sorry.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Well, hey, one positive. This is the most points they've
- 53:20Speaker 3: scored all season, so 16 points. You've got to take
- 53:25Speaker 3: one positive away from this.
- 53:26Speaker 2: You've got to take one positive.
- 53:28Speaker 3: They've scored 14, 14, and 16. This is not what
- 53:32Speaker 3: they expected in L.A. when they brought in Mike McDaniels.
- 53:35Speaker 3: A lot of questions in L.A. right now.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, they played a very tough schedule.
- 53:41Speaker 3: Sure. I mean, they played the Raiders. They played the Cardinals.
- 53:44Speaker 3: This is the first team coming into this season. I'm
- 53:47Speaker 3: sure everyone chalked up two Ws to start the season.
- 53:50Speaker 3: This was probably their first expected loss. But Richard, this defense,
- 53:55Speaker 3: to your point, they made Josh Allen look human. I mean,
- 53:58Speaker 3: this guy has been looking out of this world for
- 54:01Speaker 3: the last year. I mean, the first two weeks of
- 54:03Speaker 3: the season, what he did against Detroit, he looked completely unstoppable.
- 54:07Speaker 3: He had a 54 passer rating today. Two interceptions. I mean,
- 54:12Speaker 3: this just goes to show you how good Buffalo truly is.
- 54:16Speaker 3: Because when they go out there and lay an absolute
- 54:19Speaker 3: egg offensively, they still come out victorious by eight points, Richard.
- 54:25Speaker 3: They covered the spread on top of it. I mean,
- 54:27Speaker 3: it's just wild stuff in Buffalo.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Joe Brady has to be feeling incredibly good.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Buffalo fans, if your quarterback, who's as good as they
- 54:36Speaker 1: think he is, can struggle that bad and you still
- 54:39Speaker 1: find a way to win, it just gives you a
- 54:41Speaker 1: ton of confidence.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Look at James Cook.
- 54:43Speaker 1: James Cook, 24 carries, 154 yards and a touchdown, was
- 54:46Speaker 1: dominant in this game and they rolled his back. And
- 54:48Speaker 1: I heard people say, I forget who it was. Oh,
- 54:52Speaker 1: I wish I could remember. I can't remember what analyst
- 54:55Speaker 1: it was, but they were like, oh man, he just
- 54:57Speaker 1: doesn't have a lead back. If he just had somebody,
- 55:00Speaker 1: a running bait that when he's struggling, they could pick
- 55:03Speaker 1: up the slack. If Josh Allen had that, it was like,
- 55:05Speaker 1: Wait a minute. When James Cook led the league in
- 55:08Speaker 1: rushing last year, he's as good of a running mate
- 55:11Speaker 1: as there is. He's as good of a Batman-Batman combination
- 55:15Speaker 1: as you can find. He led the league in rushing.
- 55:17Speaker 1: What else can you get from a running back?
- 55:20Speaker 2: It's rushing.
- 55:21Speaker 1: But again, Buffalo, really great win. Really great win. They're
- 55:28Speaker 1: going and playing a struggling New England team. They got
- 55:31Speaker 1: a chance to start the season 4-0. Another victory against
- 55:35Speaker 1: a good team, and they've played good teams. They've beat
- 55:37Speaker 1: really good teams. I think every team they've played has
- 55:39Speaker 1: been a playoff team that they've beat just about outside
- 55:42Speaker 1: of the Chargers. So almost every team that they've beaten
- 55:45Speaker 1: has been at least a contender or a playoff team
- 55:48Speaker 1: from last season. They beat a very good Houston team,
- 55:50Speaker 1: a team that was very good last season. They don't
- 55:52Speaker 1: look as good this season. They've started the season 0-3
- 55:55Speaker 1: again for the second straight year. Concerning, no question about it.
- 55:58Speaker 1: They beat a Detroit team that people would expect to
- 56:00Speaker 1: compete in, a team that has competed And offense has
- 56:04Speaker 1: scored 31 points a game. They just beat the Chargers,
- 56:07Speaker 1: a playoff team from last season. They're going to play
- 56:09Speaker 1: the New England Patriots, a Super Bowl team from last season,
- 56:12Speaker 1: a team that appeared in the Super Bowl and likely
- 56:15Speaker 1: beat them. So if you're Buffalo, you got to be
- 56:17Speaker 1: feeling good. If you're the LA Chargers, you're searching for answers.
- 56:20Speaker 1: And for most teams, the answers start with the quarterback.
- 56:24Speaker 1: But for some reason, this team, it doesn't. Because it's
- 56:27Speaker 1: everybody else.
- 56:30Speaker 2: It is everybody else.
- 56:32Speaker 3: Let's talk about The Raiders. Richard, this is the team.
- 56:36Speaker 3: Last week, you said they were the surprise of the
- 56:38Speaker 3: NFL after they started 2-0. They just went on the
- 56:41Speaker 3: road and knocked off the New Orleans Saints, who look
- 56:45Speaker 3: like a pretty solid team, especially, again, in this nasty
- 56:50Speaker 3: NFC South. The New Orleans Saints can't get it done
- 56:54Speaker 3: at home, but this Raider team, 3-0. They're down 11
- 56:57Speaker 3: points in the second half. They come back and ultimately
- 57:00Speaker 3: win by 8. Impressive game. Kirk Cousins, The game manager
- 57:04Speaker 3: that he is throws for 248 and three touchdowns with
- 57:07Speaker 3: a 119 passer rating. You got to love seeing Brock
- 57:10Speaker 3: Bowers back with this offense. 13 targets, 10 receptions, 116
- 57:14Speaker 3: and a touchdown. Richard, is this Raider team for real?
- 57:20Speaker 3: Because they awfully look like, they awfully sure do look
- 57:23Speaker 3: like it.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I know what you're trying to say. Yes, yes.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Excuse me.
- 57:27Speaker 3: Yes, I can rephrase that for you. Richard, is this
- 57:31Speaker 3: Raider team for real? Question mark?
- 57:36Speaker 2: Yes, this Raiders team is for real.
- 57:38Speaker 1: And I know people love to beat up on Kirk
- 57:43Speaker 1: Cousins for the mistakes and how he looked in Atlanta
- 57:45Speaker 1: at times. But there were times he looked special. There
- 57:50Speaker 1: was a game we were there, he threw for 500, Mitchell.
- 57:52Speaker 1: And that's the peak and the ceiling of Kirk Cousins today.
- 57:57Speaker 1: And obviously the floor is the floor. You know, he
- 58:00Speaker 1: can turn the ball over. He can kind of fold
- 58:01Speaker 1: in big moments. Sometimes it goes bad for him. But
- 58:04Speaker 1: I think when Clint Kubiak said, hey, let's go get
- 58:08Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins, he understood that Kirk Cousins within this, again,
- 58:15Speaker 1: this West Coast tight, condensed Kyle Shanahan inside-outside zone, really
- 58:20Speaker 1: condensed passing game offense that McVay runs, that a lot
- 58:24Speaker 1: of these teams run, and Clint Kubiak ran it, in Seattle,
- 58:27Speaker 1: and they're going to run it in Las Vegas, he
- 58:32Speaker 1: operates it at a high level. He's a high-level processor,
- 58:35Speaker 1: and he's a guy that can play. And again, talking
- 58:38Speaker 1: about those anticipatory throws, he can make those throws. He
- 58:41Speaker 1: can make those passes. He can make those adjustments. He
- 58:43Speaker 1: can understand how the defense is adjusting and hit those windows.
- 58:46Speaker 1: Sometimes he can get really, really hot. And right now,
- 58:49Speaker 1: he was 22 of 33, 248, three touchdowns, 119 passer ratings,
- 58:56Speaker 1: really operating at a high level. And when you give
- 58:58Speaker 1: him a target and a real, I mean, just freak
- 59:03Speaker 1: like Brock Browers who can catch these passes and he
- 59:06Speaker 1: can catch them against DBs or linebackers and you get
- 59:12Speaker 1: matchups that you want.
- 59:14Speaker 2: It gets really fun.
- 59:15Speaker 1: Brock Bowers, 10 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown.
- 59:19Speaker 1: Trey Tucker got involved. Ashton Gentry didn't have the biggest game,
- 59:22Speaker 1: but again, when they needed to have it on the ground,
- 59:24Speaker 1: just got those grinded out yards. Kept making the run
- 59:28Speaker 1: game viable. Like they had to defend the run game.
- 59:30Speaker 1: That's the only way these play action passes that you
- 59:32Speaker 1: have to have in this offense work is that you
- 59:35Speaker 1: got to respect the run game and they respected it enough.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Michael Meyer, a mayor, three receptions for 32 yards in
- 59:42Speaker 1: the touchdown. Mike Washington, five carries for 54 yards in
- 59:45Speaker 1: the touchdown. He's making an impact, very explosive runs at times.
- 59:49Speaker 1: They're a team you have to respect because they're playing
- 59:53Speaker 1: solid football on both sides of the ball. I think
- 59:55Speaker 1: their defense is making plays. They got a young guy.
- 59:58Speaker 1: They got a young guy. Let me get his name
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: right because it's biblical, Mitchell. It's biblical. His name is biblical.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Hezekiah Masses. Hezekiah Masses. Three interceptions tied for the league lead.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: A rookie. Fifth round pick, Mitchell.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: So there's a spot in my heart. There's a place
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: in my heart for Hezekiah. Hezekiah is made one of
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: the biggest plays of the day in this game. Now
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: there are most, this game turned into an absolute shit
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: show at the end.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: I mean, there was fumbles all over the place.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: There was, there was turnovers left and right. I think
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: Kirk fumbled, um, Tyler Shuck fumbled one and he got
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: recovered and it just seemed like a never ending game
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: at the end. But when the game was tight, I
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: think it was 27 and 28. Uh, and the Raiders
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: had just scored and, and New Orleans had the ball,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: and they pressured Tyler Shuck, and they looked like they
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: ran a two-trap on defense, at least to Hezekiah's side,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: and he turned around, and an errant pass by Tyler
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Shuck while he was under pressure.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: He got hit.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: The ball went out. This kid got another interception. He
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: had two the week before. He's got three on the season,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: and his return, his return, I mean, his return skills
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: were there. Mitchell, the guy's a ball player, and he
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: got it. He got it going, got them in scoring range,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: and really secured this win. Now, there were ways, there
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: were times that New Orleans could have got something done,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: and Tyler Shutt deserves a ton of credit. 29-42, 255,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: four touchdown passes in this game, 106 rating. Also had
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: a big run in this game for 36 yards. Chris
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Olave is having a wonderful start to the season. Nine
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: for 107. Jawan Johnson, eight for eight. Eight receptions on
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: eight targets for 53 yards and two touchdown passes.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: Again, a great start to the season.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: Noah Fant, four catches on four targets for 33 yards,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: two touchdown catches. Again, he loves to target these tight ends.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: He loves to get them involved, but it was not
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: enough in this game because of what we just talked about.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: The plays that Las Vegas was able to make down
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: the stretch. Two sacks, four takeaways in this game, and
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: they're going to play the Kansas City Chiefs next week,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: and Before the season started, I don't think anybody would
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: have looked at that game and been like, oh, man,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: this is going to be a really cool game. This
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: is going to be a game that you got to
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: watch that might get flexed in the prime time. You
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: wouldn't have thought the Raiders game, just based on the
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: Raiders picking number one in the draft from the last season.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: I mean, there's a reason they were picking number one
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: in the draft. But now that they're 3-0, and we
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: all know what the Kansas City Chiefs have been doing.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: They found a way to win today against the Miami Dolphins.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: I mean, you can't say found a way to win.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: The Miami Dolphins don't have a ton of talent. But.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: Kenneth Walker and everything they got.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: This is going to be a, might be the game
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: of the week this week because of the way the
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Las Vegas Raiders are playing. And that that's not to
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: say anything really bad about the new Orleans saints. They're
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: in this NFC South that anybody can win. Everybody's still
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: even everybody's still even. And I would say of all
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: things going on, it's still Atlanta. And I mean, it's,
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: It's hard to say because if you look at any
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: given week, you could say Carolina's been playing really good football.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: You could say that Atlanta this week against Green Bay
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: played fantastic football and Pennix is back. So now they
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: have a viable option at quarterback who can get this
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: done and who can open this offense up. But the
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: New Orleans Saints, whoever was the scout that found Tyler
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Shaw and stood on the table for them to draft him,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: deserves to be called out and praised at a high
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: level because when they drafted him.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: Everybody, including myself, was like, why didn't they get Shador?
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: And that's part of the bias that we had during
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: the time because Shador was falling in the draft and
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: everybody was like, somebody got to pick him up. Is
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: it going to be New York? Is it going to
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: be them? Is it going to be Cleveland? Is it
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: going to be these teams? Is it going to be Baltimore?
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: And they took Tyler Shuck, and there were people that said, hey, man,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: he's a really good quarterback. You guys just don't know yet.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: He's a really good quarterback. You guys just don't know yet.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: And they were right.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: They were, Richard.
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: I mean, the one knock on him coming out of
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: college as a rookie is his age. He was a
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: 26-year-old rookie. But, you know, even when they were playing
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: the Lions two weeks ago, I guess the opening week
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: of the season, Mark Burnell, the Lions QB coach, said
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: he had him ranked as the number one quarterback in
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: that draft. So he obviously had believers. But when the
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: one knock is your age at 26, You know, a
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: team like the Saints that need some, I guess, a
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: veteran presence under center to get a 26-year-old rookie kind
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: of makes sense. But Richard, before we leave this game,
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: the LA, I'm sorry, the Las Vegas Raiders, they become
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: the first team since 2013 to start a season 3-0
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: after finishing the previous season with the worst record in football.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: So this Raiders team is making some noise right now.
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: Is there any shot in the world we could see
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: them in the top five of your power ranks?
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: Mitchell, I don't know. I don't know.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: Right now, Mitchell, I'm gun shy about that because I
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: did that with the Cincinnati Bengals and I got stung
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: for it.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: So I'm not sure. I'm probably going to give it
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: another week.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: If they can beat the Kansas City Chiefs, then sure,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: we can start to have that conversation. But right now,
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: I'm not quite there yet. And I know Raiders fans,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: you guys are passionate. You guys are really, really incredible.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: But they're just not there yet for me. And I'm
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: not going to force it.
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: This segment is sponsored by Sling TV. And it's called
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: Rule Breakers. Richard, who is a cornerback in the past
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: who you would personify as a rule breaker?
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: I'd have to go with the legend, Charles Woodson. 65
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: career interceptions. A guy that wasn't where quarterbacks thought he
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: was going to be that They may have thought, hey,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: I got a beat on this play. They're running this coverage.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: And then, of course, Charles Woodson just breaks the coverage,
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: goes where the ball is going, takes the football away,
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: and keeps going. A rule breaker, Mitchell, a guy who
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: had instincts that are out of this world, a guy
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: who dominated the football field, dominated every position he played,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: whether it was nickel, safety, or the outside corner, because
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: he dictated the pace. He dictated where the ball was
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: going with his positioning. with his IQ, just an incredible guy,
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: and of course a rule breaker.

- 1:06:41Speaker 3: Drop who you think is a rule breaker in the
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: comments section and make sure you tune in to next
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: weekend's game on Sling TV. Let's talk about the Dallas
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: Cowboys and the Baltimore Ravens. This game was in Brazil,
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: and Brazil saw a heck of a game coming down
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: to the wire. Ultimately, a head coaching decision to boot
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: it out of the back of the end zone leads
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: to the Baltimore Ravens having one shot to get in
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: the field goal range, and that they just did. A
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: bomb from Lamar Jackson, quick timeout, and Tyler Loop kicks
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: the game-winning field goal. Richard, your thoughts on this game
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: as the Baltimore Ravens improve the 2-1 on the season.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: How do I feel on this game? Well, no defense, clearly.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Nobody wants to play defense in this game. That much
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: was obvious. Lamar Jackson looks like Lamar Jackson. Very efficient day, 15-20,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: 186 yards, two touchdowns. Also got it done on the ground,
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: six carries, 50 yards. Field conditions good. were a bit
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: concerned going into this game. There were a couple guys
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: that slipped, but there wasn't a ton of it. Derrick
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Henry continues to be the bell cow, 26 carries, 89 yards,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: two touchdowns. Zay Flowers was questionable before this game, did
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: a workout pregame, was able to play five catches for
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: 84 yards, made his impact, one carry for 20 yards.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Rashad Bateman was getting involved. Mark Andrews, Matthew Hibner, Got
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: a touchdown in this game. But Baltimore just did what
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: they needed to do. Made enough plays. There was a really, really,
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: really questionable pass interference call late in the game that
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: I really, really, really did not like. I thought that
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: was one of the most terrible calls I've seen this
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: season on Nate Wiggins.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: It was between Nate Wiggins and C.D. Lamb, and C.D.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: Lamb had his arm pulled and Nate Wiggins was trying
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: to go up with one arm to intercept the ball
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: because his other arm was getting pulled down, and he
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: got called for pass interference. Those kind of calls really
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: grind my gears because that could have been the play
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: that won the Dallas Cowboys the game. It got them
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: to the red zone. Thankfully, they made a mistake. I
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: think they had a false start that pushed them back
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: and ended up only getting a field goal, which tied
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: the game. And then Baltimore gets a big completion and
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: then go down the field and get a big field
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: goal by their kicker. Is it Tyler Loop?
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: Nope. Let me make sure.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: Yep, Tyler Luke, who was under a lot of scrutiny
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: last year because I think he missed that field goal
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: against Pittsburgh. That really was a whole different situation. But
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: good for him.
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: Walk off, field goal win.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: But that call right there, there were a couple calls
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: along with a couple roughing the passers. The obvious one
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: was Kansas City, but there was one in this game.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: against Dak Prescott. There were a couple throughout this weekend
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: that the league is just going to have to address
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: in some way. You can't keep calling roughing the passer
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: on these defensive players when they're bracing. All you said
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: they had to do was put their hands down and
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: brace for the fall, and they're putting their hands down,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: and you're still calling roughing the passer. I don't know
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: what else you want them to do. It's not always
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: possible for somebody to fall and roll to the side,
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: and you're You got these guys risking injury, putting their
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: hands down, risking potentially breaking their wrists, trying to avoid
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: these sacks. But the Baltimore Ravens look really solid in
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: this game. Like I said, whoever won this game was
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: going to be in a real good position, and whoever
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: lost is going to have some big questions to answer.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: And you can't say a ton about the offense for
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys because Dak Prescott played well.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: He only threw for one touchdown. But C.D.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Lamb, seven catches for 112 yards. George Pickens, seven. 482,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: Javante Williams, 19 carries for 98 yards in the touchdown.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: They were scoring. They were moving the ball.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: But their defense, zero sacks, zero takeaways in the game.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: That's a big factor. Obviously Baltimore had only one sack,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: but they had the one takeaway in the game. And
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: next week they play Tennessee, and Tennessee's not a great team.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: The Baltimore Ravens could get another win right there in Tennessee.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: And Dallas plays Houston, a team really, really hungry and
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: desperate for a win. And a team that, I mean,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: used to play really good defense. And I'm sure they're
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: going to be looking at this team and thinking they
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: could potentially get them one and get in the winner's circle.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: And if you talk about that and see a Dallas
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: team that could potentially start their season one and three,
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: I don't think that's what Jerry saw coming into the season.
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: Certainly not. I mean, they've got the offensive weapons between
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: CD and George Pickens. Javante Williams doing his thing on
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: the ground. You've got to take a look at the defense.
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: I mean, this team has really not been all that
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: impressive to start the season, losing in New York against
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: the Giants to open up the season, ultimately beating the
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: Commanders at home, who were without Jaden Daniels for half
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: of that game, and ultimately thrust Marcus Mariota in at halftime. So,
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: you know, even their one win has an asterisk on it.
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: So I don't know how good this Dallas Cowboys team
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: is going to be. Two, three years ago, they seemed
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: to be finally turning things around Now they're just back
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: to average. Now they're back to divisional and done Dallas.
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: And I don't even know if they can give it
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: into the divisional, Richard, because as it stands right now,
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: this team does not look like a playoff team, especially defensively.
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: So Dallas is going to have to turn things around quick.
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: Like you said, they got Houston next week, who's going
- 1:12:25Speaker 3: to be so desperate to get a win. Going into Houston,
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: Houston desperately, desperately needs that game. I like Houston in
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: that game. I expect the Dallas Cowboys to start the
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: season one and three. And I expect alarms to be
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: going off in Jerry's world because this cannot continue to
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: happen in Dallas.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: What gives?
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: What can possibly change to turn this franchise around?
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: And what's most alarming is how much they invested on
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball. You talked about Caleb Downs,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark. There's so much talent on that
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: side of the football. So many guys that Deron Bland
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: is still a guy that's getting paid a lot of
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: money to play corner. in the National Football League, and
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: you're just not seeing the results. You're not seeing the
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: fruits of your labor. And so that's probably the most
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: frustrating thing. No turnovers in this game, once again. No sacks,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: no anything. And they weren't putting a ton of pressure
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: on Lamar Jackson. Now, Lamar Jackson is obviously one of
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: the more elusive quarterbacks in the National Football League, but
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: you just expect more from this defensive line, and they
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: just haven't shown that yet.
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: Let's talk about another game. You were just saying about
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: these roughing the passer issues. I mean, the Miami Dolphins
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: inevitably lost the Kansas City Chiefs, who continue to look impressive.
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: But when this game was close and the Kansas City
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: Chiefs were backed up against their own end zone, Chop
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: Robinson got called for a 15-yard roughing the passer call,
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: which to me looked like just a big, solid hit.
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: But because he landed on Patrick Mahomes, he was flagged.
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: Not to say that the end result wouldn't have been
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: any different, but for a team that's battling like the
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: Miami Dolphins are, to have that penalty go against you
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: totally changes the momentum of the game. Richard, back to
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: the Kansas City side of things, though. Patrick Mahomes continues
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: to impress. 20 of 24, 246, two touchdowns, 119 passer rating.
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: Got Rasheed Rice involved, seven receptions, 88 yards. Travis Kelsey's
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: kind of turned back the clock of time. He looks
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: like his old self. Two receptions, 59 yards and a touchdown.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: And then the big one, K-9, Kenneth Walker, the Michigan
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: State Spartan, former Seattle Seahawks running back, who I'm guessing
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: Seattle fan base, the 12s, desperately wish still was donning
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: the Seattle Seahawks number nine. Kenneth Walker. I mean, is
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: there a bigger surprise this season from an offensive skill
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: position player than Kenneth Walker is with the Kansas City Chiefs?
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: No, there's not a, I can't say there's not a
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: bigger offseason pickup because there are some other guys that
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: are hand-in-glove fits, but one of the bigger offseason pickups
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: in the National Football League and one of the more
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: perfect fits for their team that was picked up, and
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: he's making a tremendous impact and taking a lot of
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: pressure off of Patrick Mahomes, and I think that's appreciated.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: He's making their lives a lot easier, both in the
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: run game, but also in the pass game. He had
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: a pass touchdown in this game as well, and he's
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: just a guy that, When things aren't going perfectly and
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: they need an explosive play, he continues to deliver.
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: He's delivered.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: Every game for the first three games of the season.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: He's a big reason why they are what they are.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: They're 3-0 right now in the season, whether Patrick Mahomes
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: plays well or whether he doesn't play well. They have
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: been able to lean on him for consistency. And again,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: Travis Kelsey continues to find a way. Would he have
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: these numbers somewhere else? I don't know, but his rapport
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: and his relationship with Patrick Mahomes is just keeps allowing
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: them to find these holes and these voids in the defense.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: And he seems to just have a great knack for
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: finding it. And when he does, Patrick Mahomes is giving
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: him the football and allowing him to do what he does.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: And that's been fantastic to watch. On the other side,
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: this isn't a very talented Miami Dolphins.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: Team, but they fought. They fought. And you got to
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: give Jeff Halfley a lot of credit. They fought.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: Malik Willis is getting better and better. He's making plays.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: He's pushing the ball down the field.
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: They're blank. in the absence of fear, because they have
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: nothing to lose.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: You know, I mean, you can't say losing by 14
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: points is a win by any stretch of the imagination,
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: and you only score 10 points offensively, but at times,
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: they were battling in this game. This game was closer
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: than the score says, and I think if you're Jeff Halfley,
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: you have to talk about that as a win. This
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: team is building. They are in Dead cap hell. I
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: think they got $ 180 million in dead money. You traded
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: away all your best players. So you're trying to develop
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: players and teach them winning habits. You're not going to
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: win this year. And if you get the number one
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: pick or you're in the running for the number one pick,
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: there are some solid quarterbacks out of college that you're
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: going to have an opportunity to get. And obviously the
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: big name that everybody's going to talk about is Arch Manning.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: I don't know if he's going to be the top
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: quarterback to come out this year. I got to study
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: more college tape and watch that. and listen to Mel
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: Kiper and the guys that are extra Todd, Michelle, Todd, Michelle, uh,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: and all those guys who handled the draft. But I
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: don't think Miami is looking to do anything, but build
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: for the future and see who's going to be a
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: part of that future. And I think they're starting to
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: see some guys that, uh, have made some plays and,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: and are trying to find a way they had to
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: take away in this game. Uh, they got some guys
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: that could be a part of that future, but they
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: got a tough game against the Minnesota Vikings coming up and, Obviously,
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: Brian Flores had some bad blood for Miami, Mitchell. He
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: had some bad blood. So if you thought Brian Flores
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: was going to bring some blitzes for anybody, he's going
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: to bring some blitzes to Miami. That's no question about it.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: He don't feel bad about having a lack of talent
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: or anything. He remembers how he was done in Miami,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: and I don't think that's something he'll ever forget. Quick
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: shout-out to Whatnot. Man, I found a pair of Kobe
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: Grinches in my size, Mitchell. mint condition, original box. I've
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: been looking for a pair of these for years.
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: And you haven't stopped talking about them. You've been talking
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: about them before they even arrived.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: Because they take me back to my childhood era, man.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: RIP the bean.
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: Mitchell.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: Any chance I get to just remember the bean and
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: have something that he wore, it means something to me, Mitchell.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: It means something to me. I use Whatnot to find

- 1:20:38Speaker 3: Speaking of this Vikings team, let's talk about them. They
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: start 3-0, Richard. I don't know what's more surprising, them
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: starting 3-0 or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looking so poor
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: in starting 0-3. But this Minnesota Vikings team, if you
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: were just to look at the statistics offensively, you would
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: have said they're for sure going to lose this game.
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: Kyler Murray, 15-29, 168, a touchdown and interception. Has a
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: 66.5 passer rating. Really didn't do much on the ground.
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: Two carries for 17 yards. Justin Jefferson only had two
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: catches for 32 yards. Aaron Jones, 17 carries for 58 yards.
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: All those numbers tell me the Minnesota Vikings lost this game. However,
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: they did not. They won 23-16, and this is a
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: team that is absolutely led by their defense. And their
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: defense is aggressive.
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: And ferocious.
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: You alluded to Brian Flores and his love for blitzes. Richard,
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: what if I told you the Vikings have 56 more
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: blitzes this season than the next closest team in the NFL?
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: They have 136 blitzes this season. The commanders are second
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: with 80. That goes to show you how aggressive Brian
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: Flores is, and clearly it is working. This team held
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: and frustrated Baker Mayfield all day long, He had a 50%
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: completion percentage, drew for 217, had a pick. Richard, what
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: gives with this Minnesota Vikings team if they just had
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: Sam Darnold, Richard? If they just had Sam Darnold, this
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: team would be right up there in the Super Bowl conversations.
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: Do you like this team led by Kyler Murray?
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: I like this defense.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: I can't say I like this team, and I don't
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: think Kevin O'Connell would disagree with me. I don't think
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: they have enough offensively. Kyler Murray did enough today, 15
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: of 29, 168, a touchdown and an interception. But again,
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: knocked the rust off, haven't played a ton of football. Obviously,
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: his first game after being concussed in the first game
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: early on. But again, I don't feel like he operated
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: the offense how Kevin O'Connell would have wanted this to operate.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: But you know a guy who did? Sam Darnold. But
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: nobody wants to talk about that. Everybody wants to move
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: on and stop beating us up about that. No, I'm
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: never going to stop beating you up about that. That
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: was dumb. And I said it was dumb at the time,
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: and it was dumb at the time, and it's dumb now.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: Because you guys could be a Super Bowl contending team
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: for years to come if you would have just said, hey, sure,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: we'll look past that playoff performance because our offensive line
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: was struggling.
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: Everybody was struggling. You were getting beat up.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: We're not going to just lose a quarterback who just
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: won his 14th game for a rookie quarterback that we
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: have not seen do it.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: But whatever. Now you got Kyler Murray.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: And Kyler Murray is okay, but he has to be
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: more impactful with his legs. And that's the element that's
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: the unknown for defenses. But Tampa Bay did a great job.
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: Todd Bowles did a great job confusing him and containing him.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: But this defense, Blake Cashman, Eric Wilson, James Pierre, Isaiah Rogers,
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: all these guys, Dallas Turner, one of the best pass
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: rushers in the league.
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: Kyle Vannoy. Kyle Vannoy, back in it. Back in it.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: Kyle Vannoy, the gift that keeps on giving. Kyle Vannoy
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: had a sack and a half in this game. Eric
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: Wilson had a sack and a half. Six sacks in
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: the game total for this defense, and that's Brian Flores.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: That's why he will be a head coach next year,
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: because he keeps finding a way, regardless of what his
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: offense does. I don't think he's worried about that at all.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: He's trying to play offensively. with defense. They had two
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: takeaways in this game. Andrew Van Ginkle, a guy who
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: has continued to thrive. I don't know if he would
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: be a household name in any other defense, but within
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: this Brian Flores scheme, it just works. He and Blake
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: Cashman and Dallas Turner and there's so many guys. Harrison
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: Smith is a guy who came back. The quarterback of
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: this defense is playing really well. Jalen Redman, a guy
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: who in the middle that helps with this run game,
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: helps solidify this run game. They, they just make it work.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: And that's, what's giving Minnesota fans excitement. That's what's keeping
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: them in it. Jordan Addison had a really good game.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: He had a really good touchdown catch in this game, uh,
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: on a dime from Colin Murray. Uh, I don't know
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: if it's a dime, it was kind of underthrown, but
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: he made it a good catch and he caught the
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: football and it was a great.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: Adjustment.
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: It ended up being a touchdown. He had five catches
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: for 90 yards and touchdown. Justin Jefferson, uh, Had an
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: injury in this game. I'm still waiting to hear what
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: that injury was and how long.
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: He's going to be out.
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: But again, this is a ball control, run football team.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: Try not to turn the football over. Lean on your defense.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: And that's how they've been winning. They got a game
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: against the Miami Dolphins that I know is a revenge
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: game for Brian Flores. I expect him to really bring
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: a ton of pressure and make Malik Willis' life a
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: living hell That's no question about that, Mitchell. I think
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: no question he's going to make his life a living hell.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: I think they were blitzing at 78%. 78% of their snaps,
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: they blitz. It's going to be like 90 in this game.
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: I don't doubt that. And the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: only bright spot about this team that I've seen three
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: weeks into this season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: that they reside in the NFC South. That is the
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: only bright spot I see with this team. And I
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: think the NFL needs to implement the NFC South rule.
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: The fact that one of these teams is going to
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: host a playoff game is becoming an absolute joke because
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: it's happened season after season after season. Can one of
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: these NFC South teams please stand up? Please stand up
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: and justify this division being in the NFL. I plead
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: of you. Richard, let's hit some fourth quarter quick hitters
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: on the Richard Sherman podcast. I know you don't want
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: to spend too much time on the New York Giants
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: against the Tennessee Titans, but the New York Giants, led
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: by Jameis Winston, are now 2-1. Is there any reason
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: to believe in this Giants team going forward?
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: I don't know if there's any reason to believe in
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: this Giants team, but I believe in Javon Holland. I
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: think he's one of the best players in the National
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: Football League. He's been making plays for this team all
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: season long, and he made some plays in this game.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: had an interception, another pass breakup. And he's the reason.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: I think he had multiple forced fumbles in another game
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: along with an interception. That's a guy that if you're
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: another team and ever think that the Giants are going
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: to be in a fire sale, obviously he's a captain
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: on this team. He's a big-time factor each and every week.
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: I think that's a guy that I really appreciated watching
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: in this game. Jameis gets to eat a W. That's
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: always fun. Jameis' interview before the game was hilarious as always.
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: But if you're the Tennessee Titans, you're looking again, trying
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: to figure out if Cam Ward is the guy. Like
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: that's the thing, the question you have to answer this
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: season is Cam Ward the guy.
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: And so far, I don't think that has been clear.
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: Richard, the Giants play the Arizona Cardinals next week, a
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: winnable game. If they start three and one, I mean, listen,
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: Jameis Winston had some flair to him last year. I mean,
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: he gave the Lions an absolute scare in Ford Field
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: last year. And we know he can air it out.
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: He's an aggressive guy. And he hasn't had the most
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: fortunate weather conditions these last couple games. But do you
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: think there's ever a world that the Giants would go
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: and make a trade for a quarterback? Maybe call it
- 1:28:12Speaker 3: Jimmy G, Mac Jones, one of those guys. Do you
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: even view those as upgrades over Jameis for this team?
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: Well, I don't know.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: They're paying Jameis Winston a lot of money to be
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: a backup for this exact scenario. I mean, I think
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: they wanted him more for the mentorship role of Jackson Dart,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: not to play football, but Now it's time for Jameis
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: to play, and if you're trading for a Mack Jones,
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: you're going to give up a tremendous amount of draft capital.
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: The San Francisco 49ers are not interested in trading him. They've...
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: expressed that many times. And I think people have reached
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: out with multiple offers and multiple picks. And they've said no.
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: And so they hold all the cards.
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: So.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: If the Giants are desperate enough to do that, to
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: kind of go all in on this season, you know
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: that at some point Jackson Dart is going to return.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: And are you willing to kind of, what's the word
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: I'm looking for? Are you willing to mortgage your future?
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: There you go, Mitchell.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: Are you willing to mortgage your future for the now?
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: And I don't think that that's the way John Harbaugh
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: and this front office want to move. They're going to
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: just ride Jameis Winston and try to figure it out
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: as they go. I don't think they were expecting a
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: ton from this season. They were hoping a healthy Jackson
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Dart would give them a chance to make it competitive
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: and make it fun. But I don't see them making
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: a big move like that or making a splash. So
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: if they do, I'd be incredibly surprised.
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: The Indianapolis Colts finally get a win this season, starting 1-2.
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: And then the Houston Texans are now 0-3. I know
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: you talked about the biggest surprise in the NFL being
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: the Las Vegas Raiders. would you call the biggest disappointment
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: to Houston, Texas at this point in the season?
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: I would, I would expect, I would call them the
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: biggest disappointment. I thought this was a team that was
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: going to be competitive, a team that we thought would
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: be contenders. I thought they could have won, could have
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: made it to the Superbowl last year. Their defense gave
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: them a chance. I think CJ Stroud against the New
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: England Patriots really struggled, had one of the worst games
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: of his career at the worst time, but I thought
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: their defense was good enough to get them to the Superbowl.
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: And again, In this game, their defense has four sacks
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: and three takeaways against a team that did not take the.
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: Ball away at all.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: And usually when you win the turnover battle 3-0, that's
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: a win. And so you're just really disheartened by the
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: way they're losing these games.
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: C.J.
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: Stroud has been up and down this game, 16-27, 167
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: yards and a touchdown. Just not putting up the numbers
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: that you really expect him to put up. against an
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: Indianapolis coach team that's also been up and down. Daniel
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Jones threw an interception in this game. He was 24-36
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: for 235. Josh Downs continues to be a guy that's
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: tough to cover. Keenan Allen, the old veteran, scores a
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: touchdown in this game, has 63 yards on six receptions.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: And Tyler Warren, nine catches for 55 yards, not world-beating stuff,
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: but Jonathan Taylor continues to be consistent. This is a
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: disappointing loss for the Houston Texans, no question about it.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: against a division foe that, that, you know, it's, it's
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: going to come down to the wire. And if the
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: Jacksonville Jaguars continue to play as they play, they're going
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: to continue to pull away and look like the class
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: of this division.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: No question. And this team is offense. Let's, let's face
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: it without Nico Collins. They have no mojo offensively. I mean,
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: without him, you're relying on a bunch of young wide receivers,
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: none of which has really stepped up, uh, and become
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: a reliable target for CJ Stroud. So, um, We'll see
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: what happens with this Texans team. But without a reliable
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: outlet for C.J. Stroud, I see them continue to struggle offensively.
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: So I don't know if this is it. I don't
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: know if they can replicate this again, what they did
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: last year, starting 0-3 and coming back. It might be
- 1:31:58Speaker 3: a bigger mountain to climb with the Jags playing as
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: well as they are in this division. And then finally, Richard,
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: you were in Green Bay on Thursday night. That game
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: did not go according to what the national... media circuit
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: thought it would go. And the Green Bay Packers got
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: absolutely pummeled by the Atlanta Falcons. This team looked totally
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: rejuvenated thanks to Michael Penix Jr. Bijan Robinson was running
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: all over the place. I mean, topic for conversation another
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: day is who's the best running back in the NFL?
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: Because after watching Gibbs and Bijan the last couple of days,
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: I mean, those two definitely are the top class of
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: the NFL. But Richard, this Green Bay Packers team, there
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: are a lot of question marks with it. Jordan Love,
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: you know, obviously they're playing from behind all game. He
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: throws the ball 53 times. He is getting pressured left, right,
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: and center all game long. They have zero run game.
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: Without Josh Jacobs, they do not have a run game.
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: The first three games, you can see this team just
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: has no identity. How bad do you think it's going
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: to get for the Green Bay Packers this season?
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: It could get really bad, Mitchell. It could get really bad,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: and it started this week. I thought this team was
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: better than this. I thought the Green Bay Packers were
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: better than the performance they put out there. And again,
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: I know Atlanta fans are like, oh, you picked against
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: our team. You should have known better. What could I
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: have watched on tape this season that would have toned
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: me better? And you're like, well, that was Cooper Rush.
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: Well, who else was I supposed to watch?
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: Did you want me to watch Michael Penix from this year? No,
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: there was no Michael Penix to watch from this year
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: because he didn't play. So believing that you're supposed to
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: have some kind of foresight of how Michael Penix was
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: going to come back from a third ACL after not
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: playing for 300-plus days is silly stuff. So I get
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: tired of arguing with people about that. But Bajon Robinson
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: and Drake London looked fantastic in this game. And you
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: have to give credit to Michael Penix for kind of
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: opening this offense up. And they did a great job.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: They did a great job. Bajon looks like the class
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: of the league. Drake London looks like he needs to
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: get his speed up a little bit. But, you know,
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: he still had 194 yards, could have had a touchdown
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: in this game on nine of 10 targets. But for
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: Green Bay, there aren't any easy answers for them. Their
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: offensive line is bad and they aren't getting any better.
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: They have some questions to answer, and there aren't any
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: answers for them. You got two centers playing guard. You
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: got two guards playing tackle. And you got another guard
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: playing center. And there aren't any offensive linemen out there
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: to go get that will fix these problems in an
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: immediate way. And I think that's the biggest deal. I
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: know people are like, Michael Parsons is going to come back.
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: Michael Parsons isn't going to save this offense. He's not
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: going to be a pass catcher for this offense. He's
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: not going to be a dynamic playmaker. And I don't
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: think they're missing dynamic playmaking. I think Christian Watson's a
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: good receiver. Matthew Golden showed some flashes. He had 100
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: yards in the game and a touchdown. But they can't
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: protect Jordan Love.
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: And they've invested. This is going to be another.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: Year where you say, hey, the last three years they've
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: been seventh seeds. And I know it's been cool because
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: they won a game as a seventh seed.
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: And it was like, oh, man.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: But that's barely making the playoffs. In any other season
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: before they had seventh seeds, you wouldn't have made the playoffs.
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: So the last three years, You wouldn't have been a
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: playoff team, and this team doesn't look like a playoff team.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: You just signed LaFleur to a four-year extension, so you
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: can't get rid of him. Where do you go from here?
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: I don't know, but this isn't a team that you
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: expect to compete unless something dramatic changes and they turn
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: it around. But give the Atlanta Falcons a lot of credit.
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: Michael Penix came in. They played with a lot of energy.
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: They played inspired football. Jeff Ulbrich, who's gone through some
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: tremendous loss, who has gone through tremendous loss before the
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: season started, losing his wife. They lose A.J. Terrell before
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: the game. He's put on IR. They got James Pierce
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: on the commissioner's exempt list. Even with all that being said,
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: their defense played a fantastic game, put a lot of pressure.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: They're not usually known for blitzing, but the Green Bay
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: Packers struggled so much that they blitzed at twice the
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: rate that they blitz all season long in this game.
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: And Green Bay Packers fans, that tells you everything you
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: need to know. A team that doesn't blitz, It's like, hey,
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: we need to blitz these guys. It's such a glaring weakness,
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: and they can't handle it. That's something that's going to
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: happen week in and week out. You think Todd Bowles
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: and the 0-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren't going to think
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: they should come in here and blitz you to all hell?
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: They are.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: That's what they're going to think, and that's what they're
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: going to do. The Atlanta Falcons play the New Orleans
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: Saints on Monday Night Football. I'm looking forward to that game.
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: Who's real? Who's not?
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: Is Tyler Shuck going to continue his great play and
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: continue to to push the ball down the field and, and,
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: and make plays with his legs and, uh, throw it
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: to his tight ends and score touchdowns. Uh, is Bajon Robinson,
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: is Bajon Robinson going to continue to dominate? Is, is
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: Drake London going to have another dominant performance or was
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: that a flash?
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: Was that a flash in the pants?
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: Obviously Bajon Robinson isn't a flash, but his Pennix, you know,
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: Pennix coming back and all the momentum and everything behind that,
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: it gave him so much energy on both sides of
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: the football. Can they carry that forward? We, we will see.
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: This is, Again, this is the NFC South. Both teams
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: have one win on the season, and somebody's going to
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: walk away with a second.
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: Well, Richard, we're through three weeks of the NFL season already.
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: It is always a pleasure sitting down with you, my friend,
