- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:10Speaker 1: My name is Bomani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:17Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:20Speaker 1: a hater. It is Foxworth Friday. Dominique Foxworth, what's going on?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Not much, man. Feeling good. Feeling good. How about you?
- 0:27Speaker 1: Hey man, it's all right over here. It's turning autumnal.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And I realized that I have lived in this city
- 0:34Speaker 1: quite a while that I'm like, ooh, is that a
- 0:35Speaker 1: little crisp.
- 0:36Speaker 2: In the air? It feels good, right?
- 0:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Like I've never been that person. Now I'm like,
- 0:42Speaker 1: if we can get a little orange in these trees.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I mean, I think like, now that I don't go
- 0:48Speaker 2: to school, I feel like the fall, like there's a
- 0:52Speaker 2: sweet spot in the fall that's just the best. Like
- 0:54Speaker 2: the fall sucks, man. when I went to school because
- 0:57Speaker 2: it was like, all right, summer's over. It's the end
- 0:59Speaker 2: of fun. But now, as an adult, summer's great. I mean,
- 1:04Speaker 2: all the seasons have that thing, but as an adult,
- 1:06Speaker 2: it's like fall. When it get a little bit cold,
- 1:08Speaker 2: you get into the 60s. It's not good. Yeah.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Summer, I don't know if it's because of the
- 1:13Speaker 1: global warming or just me aging. Summer don't hit exactly
- 1:17Speaker 1: like it used to. Summer got a bunch of dope activities, man,
- 1:20Speaker 1: but summer got a lot of that heat.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. And I mean, I don't know how much
- 1:26Speaker 2: of your summer you spend up there in Manhattan, but
- 1:30Speaker 2: I love that city, but it's such a wonderful walkable city. However,
- 1:36Speaker 2: in summer, it's like two blocks. I'm soaking and it's just,
- 1:39Speaker 2: it's not, or you're going down funky ass subway.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Yeah. See, that's the thing. The dilemma of summer for
- 1:45Speaker 1: me on where to be is that you pay the
- 1:49Speaker 1: price of the winter and the summer really pays off
- 1:51Speaker 1: in a lot of cool ways when it pays off.
- 1:53Speaker 1: So I used to do like all my travel in
- 1:55Speaker 1: the summer. But then I was like, wait a minute,
- 1:56Speaker 1: I'm doing this wrong.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So you can't really, for example, do if you want
- 2:01Speaker 1: to do like Southern Hemisphere travel. I mean, you could
- 2:03Speaker 1: go during the summer to be winter somewhere else. It's
- 2:05Speaker 1: not how I was raised, but I suppose you have
- 2:08Speaker 1: the option. So, you know, you kind of got to
- 2:09Speaker 1: do that early. And now I'm trying to spend a
- 2:12Speaker 1: little bit more time around here. But then your homies
- 2:15Speaker 1: be bouncing around at all these different times and everything else. Like,
- 2:18Speaker 1: it's not... Yeah, I think you just hit it, man.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Some of it meant something different when it meant what
- 2:22Speaker 1: you didn't have to do, which was go to school.
- 2:25Speaker 2: And I think you and I, when you just said
- 2:27Speaker 2: homies bouncing around, you and I probably have a couple
- 2:31Speaker 2: sets of friends, which I imagine a lot of people do, where...
- 2:35Speaker 2: it's weird to, and it's a newer group, my newer
- 2:38Speaker 2: group of friends who don't have kids who have adult
- 2:41Speaker 2: kids and have like a good amount of money. Like
- 2:45Speaker 2: it's a weird place to be when you text your
- 2:48Speaker 2: homeboy and he just not there. And you're like, every
- 2:50Speaker 2: time you texted me, like, nah, I'm here. I'm there.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Like that just was never something that I had to consider.
- 2:56Speaker 2: And there's a certain group of my friends, I know
- 2:58Speaker 2: where they ass going to be all the time. And
- 3:01Speaker 2: they tell me when they're going to be somewhere else.
- 3:03Speaker 2: They're so excited. They've been telling me about it for months.
- 3:07Speaker 2: And I'm like, I know. I know that Johnny going
- 3:11Speaker 2: to be in Mexico in May. Because Johnny been telling
- 3:15Speaker 2: me for a year he go to Mexico in May.
- 3:16Speaker 2: But some of these people, especially in New York, I
- 3:18Speaker 2: come to New York often and I text some of
- 3:20Speaker 2: my New York friends who are like later life friends who...
- 3:23Speaker 2: doing interesting things. Like, hey, I'm in town, you want
- 3:26Speaker 2: to grab dinner? I'm in Paris.
- 3:27Speaker 1: What?
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 3:29Speaker 1: The other thing I realized is that, like, I ain't got, like,
- 3:33Speaker 1: a crew.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I have, like, lots of friends in different places, but no, like, crew.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And crew become kind of important in New York because
- 3:43Speaker 1: one thing you do on the weekends in the summer
- 3:45Speaker 1: here is a very broad term called go upstate.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Right?
- 3:49Speaker 1: You go to some pretty place that's not far away,
- 3:52Speaker 1: but that's a crew endeavor.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that is definitely a crew endeavor. I mean, the crew,
- 3:57Speaker 2: the adult crew is like, in many ways, it's substitute,
- 4:01Speaker 2: especially if you don't have kids. It's like, there's some
- 4:04Speaker 2: things you can't, you can't go to like, I went
- 4:06Speaker 2: to Martha's Vineyard for the first time this year. Eh,
- 4:08Speaker 2: you can't really do that alone. Like, that's not a
- 4:11Speaker 2: show up alone. You gotta, if you don't got family
- 4:14Speaker 2: or kids or whatever, then you need a crew.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yes.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yes.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I'll go across the world by myself. To the Catskills,
- 4:24Speaker 1: I'd like to have a crew.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Right?
- 4:27Speaker 1: Like, I'd like to do things that you do with crews, right?
- 4:30Speaker 1: This is, I'd say, not just a person, right? But
- 4:34Speaker 1: a crew. Because I also feel like you go to
- 4:36Speaker 1: the places, just two people. Damn, we're going to get
- 4:39Speaker 1: tired of each other quick.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Do people still have like, I mean, maybe it's just me,
- 4:44Speaker 2: but I think my friends are, my groups are kind
- 4:46Speaker 2: of like you were. It's like, yeah, I don't know,
- 4:48Speaker 2: something here, there, something there. Whatever. But are there I
- 4:51Speaker 2: guess that most people probably do like stay in the
- 4:53Speaker 2: area that they grew up with and they high school
- 4:55Speaker 2: crew still a crew. That's nice. No, no, no.
- 4:59Speaker 1: People in New York got crews. OK, here's what I
- 5:03Speaker 1: have concluded, though, about the crew up nature of New York.
- 5:06Speaker 1: And it's a very, very important thing, which is. I
- 5:09Speaker 1: got here with just a little bit too much money.
- 5:12Speaker 1: crews are we getting through this together right you know
- 5:16Speaker 1: what i'm saying like like the crew is developed in
- 5:18Speaker 1: part by necessity we work together we in here networking
- 5:22Speaker 1: you know we've been like i seen you at a
- 5:24Speaker 1: few of the same events because y'all all out here
- 5:27Speaker 1: trying to do the same thing i don't traffic in
- 5:29Speaker 1: those spaces like at the point at which i got
- 5:31Speaker 1: to this city i wouldn't live in that life no
- 5:34Speaker 1: more right so i got a crew my crew don't
- 5:37Speaker 1: all like really live here though right like we have
- 5:39Speaker 1: the group chat dinner yeah that's the crew that's our
- 5:41Speaker 1: crew that's a crew with four people who live in three.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Different cities yeah and one person who uh yeah lives
- 5:50Speaker 2: it kind of lives in another continent another person whose
- 5:53Speaker 2: job takes them all over the place i never know
- 5:55Speaker 2: where none of y'all are and then you like just
- 5:57Speaker 2: pop up and go on a solo trip to fucking
- 6:00Speaker 2: ricky of it like i'm going to vietnam tomorrow like
- 6:03Speaker 2: what yes vietnam.
- 6:06Speaker 1: It's wild times, man. It's wild times. Speaking of wild times,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I'm going to get us to the football. This just happens.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Me and Dominique just have such a good time. We
- 6:12Speaker 1: need to be able to do this as often. So
- 6:13Speaker 1: we get together, we get reacquainted, and everybody else gets
- 6:15Speaker 1: reacquainted with us. And I feel kind of like I
- 6:18Speaker 1: talk about the Eagles a lot, but on one hand,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I should talk about the Eagles a lot. Like people
- 6:21Speaker 1: complain when you talk about the Cowboys too much because
- 6:23Speaker 1: they're not good. But the Eagles are good, and we
- 6:25Speaker 1: talk about them a lot because the fun is they're good,
- 6:28Speaker 1: but we get to talk about them like they're not.
- 6:32Speaker 1: If we're being honest, it's much more fun to talk
- 6:34Speaker 1: about a team that is not that good than it
- 6:37Speaker 1: is to talk about a team that is good. There's
- 6:39Speaker 1: just not nearly as much material. But a team with
- 6:42Speaker 1: a really good record that does not really good things, buddy,
- 6:47Speaker 1: that is the cash money spot. And when you're like
- 6:50Speaker 1: me and you feel that way about the quarterback and
- 6:54Speaker 1: the coach, you are rich with material.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I mean, it's the perfect lane, too, because... People love
- 7:03Speaker 2: to get mad. Like, there's one of two things I
- 7:05Speaker 2: feel like people fall into these groups. If it's a
- 7:09Speaker 2: local fan base, they need somebody to yell at. They
- 7:11Speaker 2: gonna watch you, retweet you, or whatever. Because you make
- 7:14Speaker 2: them mad. If it's other people, I think they like
- 7:17Speaker 2: to understand what's going on and feel smart. And so
- 7:21Speaker 2: it's great if there's a 4-0 team, but I'm able
- 7:23Speaker 2: to tell you what's wrong with them. So then when
- 7:25Speaker 2: you go out, you're like, hey, I know you like them. However, they,
- 7:28Speaker 2: I mean, they'll never throw the ball on first down.
- 7:30Speaker 2: They think they're going to run like that. That is
- 7:33Speaker 2: the sweet spot. And the Eagles, they're giving it to
- 7:35Speaker 2: us the same way the Chiefs gave it to us
- 7:37Speaker 2: last year. It's just perfect. Close games that they shouldn't
- 7:40Speaker 2: be close in. Oh, yeah. They feeding the beast.
- 7:43Speaker 1: But the difference is, and I had literally forgotten about this. Like,
- 7:47Speaker 1: I don't think I've really talked about it. I think
- 7:48Speaker 1: Deontay Lee, who we had on earlier this week, and
- 7:52Speaker 1: for the people who have said it, don't you worry.
- 7:53Speaker 1: He'll be back. I had kind of sort of forgotten
- 7:57Speaker 1: about the epic collapse of 2023. Mm-hmm. where they started
- 8:01Speaker 1: 10 and one and it all fell apart. And it
- 8:02Speaker 1: fell apart in such a way that I know I
- 8:05Speaker 1: felt this way. I know my buddy Nick felt this way.
- 8:07Speaker 1: We thought it was impossible for them to bring Sirianni back.
- 8:10Speaker 1: And then at the beginning of last year, Sirianni had
- 8:12Speaker 1: the thing where he got into the argument with the fans.
- 8:15Speaker 1: And I have a tweet that people love to break
- 8:17Speaker 1: out where I'm like, look, y'all just gonna wait before
- 8:19Speaker 1: y'all fire him? Cause you're going to fire him. And
- 8:22Speaker 1: don't get me wrong. They're going to fire him. They
- 8:25Speaker 1: just won a Super Bowl before they did. So now
- 8:28Speaker 1: they out here and, you know, you watch the film
- 8:30Speaker 1: in ways I don't. I see the homie Dan Orlovsky
- 8:32Speaker 1: make the point that all A.J. Brown out here doing
- 8:35Speaker 1: is running goals and hitches. Like, that's all it is.
- 8:38Speaker 1: It seems to be an offense that you run when
- 8:40Speaker 1: you don't think your Super Bowl MVP quarterback is actually
- 8:43Speaker 1: that good. Like, people get mad at me for saying
- 8:45Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts ain't that good. What you think about them?
- 8:48Speaker 1: They around him every day and they telling you that
- 8:50Speaker 1: he ain't that good.
- 8:51Speaker 2: It does feel like it's funny, too, because I just
- 8:54Speaker 2: had this random thought. And just before I got on here,
- 8:56Speaker 2: I just looked up time on the play clock before
- 9:01Speaker 2: you snap the ball just because I was wondering. And
- 9:04Speaker 2: I know it's an obscure thing to look out, look up,
- 9:06Speaker 2: but they're 31st in the league for with six point
- 9:09Speaker 2: five seconds on the clock on average before they snap
- 9:11Speaker 2: the ball. And the reason why I looked it up
- 9:14Speaker 2: is because it feels like if you are playing in
- 9:18Speaker 2: a game that you don't feel like you deserve to win.
- 9:21Speaker 2: or you're better than your opponent, you're trying to milk
- 9:24Speaker 2: the clock. I guess I was trying to figure out
- 9:26Speaker 2: why they run the ball on first down so often
- 9:29Speaker 2: when it's not working and just get an idea for
- 9:32Speaker 2: what they're trying to do. And it seems like when
- 9:33Speaker 2: you have an ultra talented team, we want high pace,
- 9:37Speaker 2: more plays. We play the more chances we have to
- 9:40Speaker 2: demonstrate that we're better than you guys. If you want,
- 9:44Speaker 2: if you're in a close situation or you feel like
- 9:45Speaker 2: you're a weaker team, you have fewer plays. Like then it,
- 9:50Speaker 2: increases the volatility of the situation like we only got
- 9:52Speaker 2: 10 plays we might win on five if we got
- 9:55Speaker 2: 50 plays we ain't going to win on, on 25.
- 9:59Speaker 2: So it was just weird to me to see that
- 10:00Speaker 2: that was also consistent with the way that they were playing.
- 10:04Speaker 2: And I think you, you mentioned earlier, they were like,
- 10:07Speaker 2: never again. I think they also looked at the reason
- 10:11Speaker 2: why they were losing and it was turnovers and it
- 10:14Speaker 2: was interceptions from, from Jalen. And they were like, never
- 10:20Speaker 2: again we're not we're not going to do it unless
- 10:23Speaker 2: we have to and I know Dan pointed out the
- 10:27Speaker 2: fades or the goes and hitches they run a little
- 10:29Speaker 2: bit of slants they also don't run very much play
- 10:32Speaker 2: action which is nuts to me when you are a
- 10:35Speaker 2: team that is known for running the ball in the
- 10:37Speaker 2: play action that they do run if you watch it
- 10:39Speaker 2: you'll see it's like it's not real play action it's
- 10:42Speaker 2: just like he kind of faints the ball in the
- 10:45Speaker 2: direction out of shotgun and then throws it deep it
- 10:48Speaker 2: just There's so many effective plays out there that they
- 10:51Speaker 2: could be running, that they could steal from teams that
- 10:53Speaker 2: they play against, like the Rams, that they just don't.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And it doesn't make sense to me that they don't
- 10:57Speaker 2: want to win games, like put games, put teams away
- 11:00Speaker 2: when they're obviously better than everybody. Yeah.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And this, you know, I think that as the year
- 11:08Speaker 1: goes on, it will continue to look like it looks
- 11:11Speaker 1: right now, which is to say it will become clearer
- 11:14Speaker 1: and clearer that the best team in the NFC is
- 11:17Speaker 1: is the Detroit Lions. Right now, they look like the best.
- 11:21Speaker 1: They out here playing like the best. And I think
- 11:23Speaker 1: it's just because they are the best. And I know
- 11:25Speaker 1: that people still struggle to wrap their minds around that idea.
- 11:29Speaker 1: But they out here looking like the best. However, they
- 11:32Speaker 1: are never as terrifying as the Eagles are terrifying when
- 11:35Speaker 1: the Eagles choose to terrify. And because the Eagles terrifying
- 11:39Speaker 1: can be done with pressure with four, right? Like the
- 11:43Speaker 1: idea that they can still just mob on you. Pressure
- 11:47Speaker 1: with four, and we have Sharks back here. That part's
- 11:49Speaker 1: not going to change.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Yeah. They've gotten weaker at the pressure with four, but,
- 11:55Speaker 2: I mean, also a lot of it is injury-related. Apparently
- 11:59Speaker 2: Jalen Carter has some sort of injury situation that's slowing
- 12:03Speaker 2: him down. Nolan Smith's out of there, but they still
- 12:05Speaker 2: do have– I mean, Jordan Davis we saw a couple
- 12:10Speaker 2: weeks ago where he kind of single-handedly won that game. So, like,
- 12:13Speaker 2: they have the talent there. But they kind of transitioned
- 12:16Speaker 2: from where they had waves of pressure up front to
- 12:20Speaker 2: now feeling like a more linebacker-centric, a more secondary-centric team.
- 12:26Speaker 2: And that dude, Quinion Mitchell, we don't talk about him enough.
- 12:29Speaker 2: We get a lot of attention to the exciting whites
- 12:32Speaker 2: and Zach Vaughn. But Quinion out there, man, he's playing
- 12:35Speaker 2: defense in a way. Maybe they'll call it a little
- 12:37Speaker 2: closer because he's a little grabby, but he's locking people down, man.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And it's making it easier for them to do so
- 12:42Speaker 2: many other things because they aren't aren't dominating up front
- 12:46Speaker 2: on offense or defensive line the way that we kind
- 12:49Speaker 2: of come to expect them to. And we still kind
- 12:51Speaker 2: of give them that benefit of the doubt. But on
- 12:53Speaker 2: offensive line in particular, like that's kind of the problem
- 12:56Speaker 2: with the running game right now. They not, they was
- 12:59Speaker 2: pushing people back last year. They're not doing that now.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Well, let me ask you this too. Have we simply
- 13:04Speaker 1: become more sophisticated as like fans and media or is
- 13:08Speaker 1: AJ Brown just really good at it? And what I'm
- 13:11Speaker 1: saying is, His gimme the damn ball speech sounds more
- 13:16Speaker 1: selfless than anybody's gimme the ball speech ever has sounded
- 13:21Speaker 1: right because we talked about this this used to happen
- 13:23Speaker 1: all the time and the underrated part of it is
- 13:26Speaker 1: just because we win and doesn't mean it's right you
- 13:29Speaker 1: know and so for him he's like yeah man you
- 13:31Speaker 1: know i just think we'd be a lot better if
- 13:32Speaker 1: we got me the ball and guess what i think
- 13:34Speaker 1: the exact same thing like when that is always a
- 13:38Speaker 1: tricky situation when the solution is do the thing that's
- 13:42Speaker 1: best for me but that really is the solution and
- 13:45Speaker 1: nobody else is saying.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I think that's an evolution of media, honestly. Some of
- 13:49Speaker 2: the evolutions of media are better. Some of them are worse.
- 13:52Speaker 2: This is one that I think is better, is that
- 13:55Speaker 2: we take people's complaints, not all of them, but some
- 13:57Speaker 2: people's complaints, people with credibility, we take their complaints and
- 14:00Speaker 2: then we go match it up with what we're seeing.
- 14:03Speaker 2: And we all see it. And the funny thing is, A.J.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Brown is not the spearhead of this conversation. Oftentimes, it's
- 14:12Speaker 2: the receiver who's the spearhead of it. And then we
- 14:14Speaker 2: go back and look and like, hey, Y'all winning, y'all fine,
- 14:17Speaker 2: you just being selfish. A.J. Brown is late. He's saying
- 14:23Speaker 2: it after we've been saying it. Like, get him the ball.
- 14:26Speaker 2: He's good. These matchups are in your favor. And so, yeah,
- 14:29Speaker 2: I think it's easy when he's saying what we're saying.
- 14:33Speaker 2: He just said it after we said it, and he's
- 14:35Speaker 2: using the Bible. It always helps to use the Bible.
- 14:37Speaker 2: People like that, man. People like that.
- 14:39Speaker 1: He did use the Bible. He tried to say he
- 14:42Speaker 1: was talking about something else. Well, what was you talking about?
- 14:45Speaker 2: And he used books last year. It's like, hey, I'm
- 14:49Speaker 2: just reading, man. Just love to read. Self-help. I'm all
- 14:52Speaker 2: about that. And also, Jesus. Now throw me the ball.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I appreciated him reading last year because it was a
- 14:58Speaker 1: physical book on top of that. I ain't even realized
- 15:01Speaker 1: nobody his age was still getting down like that.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Nah, it was a prop is what it was. It
- 15:08Speaker 2: was a Kindle. We'd have thought he was looking at plays.
- 15:11Speaker 2: He was like, let me bring this book out here
- 15:12Speaker 2: so y'all can see this.
- 15:13Speaker 1: But you know who is the big winner from A.J.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Brown's situation? It's Devontae Smith. Because something I will always
- 15:21Speaker 1: remember is last year when A.J. Brown had one of the,
- 15:24Speaker 1: it was in the locker room where he was giving
- 15:25Speaker 1: the quotes. Mike Sielski, the great Mike Sielski, columnist in Philadelphia. Yeah.
- 15:30Speaker 1: always made the point of that day. He was like,
- 15:33Speaker 1: Devontae Smith was over there saying the exact same thing, right?
- 15:37Speaker 1: So like, AJ Brown doesn't, he gets to say it all.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Then Devontae Smith, I wonder if he's over here like,
- 15:42Speaker 1: I bet y'all would listen to me if I was taller.
- 15:44Speaker 1: I don't know what it is, but he over there
- 15:45Speaker 1: saying the exact same thing.
- 15:48Speaker 2: But I mean, to be fair to Devontae Smith is,
- 15:54Speaker 2: he ain't saying it in the way, the same way.
- 15:56Speaker 2: You know, there's a, I'll never forget this. It was when,
- 16:00Speaker 2: I think, I forgot who he was in a beef with.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It might have been, I don't know, I shouldn't speculate,
- 16:04Speaker 2: but AJ had some sort of on-field issue with a player.
- 16:08Speaker 2: And it stuck with me that he responded to the video.
- 16:12Speaker 2: It might have been CJ. No, he didn't play with him.
- 16:14Speaker 2: But anyway, it doesn't matter. It's some DB that he
- 16:16Speaker 2: was mad at. And DB was talking all this trash online.
- 16:21Speaker 2: And AJ put up a video that said, I'm with
- 16:24Speaker 2: the shits. Pfft. I suspect that A.J. Brown knows what
- 16:31Speaker 2: he's doing, what he's talking to the media. I do
- 16:33Speaker 2: not think that A.J. Brown uses indirect communication in the
- 16:39Speaker 2: locker room. I don't suspect that he is quoting the
- 16:42Speaker 2: Bible when people are pissing him off. I think that
- 16:45Speaker 2: he's saying what he needs to say to them in
- 16:47Speaker 2: the building. And Devontae can't speak for him, but generally
- 16:52Speaker 2: that's not his vibe. He seems like a, I mean...
- 16:56Speaker 2: Not that AJ's not a good guy, but Devontae's like, hey,
- 16:57Speaker 2: I'm going to go with it. I'm cool. AJ has
- 17:00Speaker 2: told us he's with the shits.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Speaking of direct conversations imply being with the shits, we
- 17:07Speaker 1: talked on Monday about Robert Sala low-key threatening to kill
- 17:10Speaker 1: Liam Cohen.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Low-key?
- 17:13Speaker 1: I mean, look, we're not treating it like that's what
- 17:15Speaker 1: he did. I will end your fucking life is like...
- 17:19Speaker 1: We treat death threats with a level of seriousness that
- 17:22Speaker 1: we haven't treated this one with, is all I'm saying. Like,
- 17:26Speaker 1: I don't know what the gap is between I will
- 17:29Speaker 1: end your life and a death threat. Because apparently, there's
- 17:32Speaker 1: a space between the two.
- 17:34Speaker 2: No, there's no space between the two. I think that... Okay,
- 17:38Speaker 2: here's an example for you. There are certain places... certain
- 17:43Speaker 2: rooms in your house that is okay to say and
- 17:47Speaker 2: do certain things. If you said and did the things
- 17:52Speaker 2: that you say and do to a person in that
- 17:55Speaker 2: room on the street, you in trouble. Keep your hands
- 18:00Speaker 2: to yourself and don't call me out my name. Unless, right?
- 18:05Speaker 2: And that's how I feel about things that take place
- 18:09Speaker 2: on the football field. They were still inside the white lines.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Inside them white lines, you can say and do certain things.
- 18:18Speaker 1: But I'm going to make the point that the example
- 18:21Speaker 1: that you're providing is undergirded by a notion of consent
- 18:26Speaker 1: that clearly did not exist in this case because Liam
- 18:28Speaker 1: Cohen was trying so hard to run away.
- 18:32Speaker 2: He turned around and came back. But I think that
- 18:34Speaker 2: it's The consent is implied. You don't show up to
- 18:37Speaker 2: a football game and think your life's not going to
- 18:39Speaker 2: get threatened.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Oh, implied consent. That's a dangerous space.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Not on football today. Not on football today.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Football does not require enthusiasm with the consent. He told
- 18:50Speaker 1: that man, I will eat your life. And by the way,
- 18:56Speaker 1: it doesn't sound like that's how he normally talks.
- 19:00Speaker 2: So, no, it's definitely not how he normally talks.
- 19:03Speaker 1: But.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I've threatened a life or two on the football field.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I didn't mean it. I've had my life threatened a
- 19:09Speaker 2: couple times out there. And then afterwards, it was good.
- 19:12Speaker 1: These aren't players.
- 19:14Speaker 2: It don't matter. It don't matter.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I know what you're saying.
- 19:18Speaker 2: I hear you.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I hear you. Time and place, right? Time and place
- 19:22Speaker 1: makes certain things possible. I just, that is the obvious
- 19:26Speaker 1: explanation for what it is. It's just so funny to me.
- 19:28Speaker 1: And as I look back on it, I was like,
- 19:30Speaker 1: yo robert solid was really talking a big game and
- 19:33Speaker 1: then came back the next day like it didn't happen
- 19:35Speaker 1: it was like when pac-man jones lost his mind in
- 19:37Speaker 1: that playoff game where all the all the crazy bangles
- 19:40Speaker 1: did crazy things and then like 10 minutes after the
- 19:43Speaker 1: game he was like oh baby i'm good i'm good
- 19:45Speaker 1: i'm good.
- 19:48Speaker 2: It's a wild place, man. Like, I think it's not
- 19:51Speaker 2: a normal workplace. I mean, we have labor issues that
- 19:55Speaker 2: other people can understand and relate to, but there's some
- 19:58Speaker 2: things about the workplace that are different. One of those
- 20:01Speaker 2: things is when you leave your house in the morning,
- 20:04Speaker 2: your life might get threatened. It might get threatened.
- 20:09Speaker 1: It's a workplace where fighting your co-workers is on the board.
- 20:14Speaker 2: It's a workplace that I think you would have appreciated.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Well, I will say this. You knowing me the way
- 20:21Speaker 1: you know me and different things about me and my
- 20:23Speaker 1: time in this business, yes. What you said to me
- 20:27Speaker 1: very early in us working together has stuck with me
- 20:29Speaker 1: forever is that what you missed about football was the accountability.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Loved it, man.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, yeah. I totally... 100% see that.
- 20:39Speaker 1: We did an interview once with Rashad Mendenhall on HQ
- 20:42Speaker 1: and he said it really took him a long time.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Sean King, you talk about this too, getting in the
- 20:46Speaker 1: media and realize maybe not everybody else is soft, right?
- 20:50Speaker 1: Because all you do coming out of football is think
- 20:52Speaker 1: that everybody else in the world is soft.
- 20:55Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, but there are, I don't want to
- 21:01Speaker 2: sound like some manosphere podcaster guy, but there are some
- 21:05Speaker 2: values that, To a place where, and it don't feel
- 21:09Speaker 2: good to be the one who's getting accounted. But it's real, man. Like,
- 21:15Speaker 2: I can't say that it never hurt my feelings when
- 21:18Speaker 2: a coach or a teammate was like, get it the
- 21:21Speaker 2: fuck together. I didn't love it. But I do miss
- 21:26Speaker 2: the times when I'm able to tell somebody, which I
- 21:28Speaker 2: can't anymore. I can't directly tell somebody, get it the
- 21:31Speaker 2: fuck together. Which I could at one point. Or also,
- 21:34Speaker 2: you didn't need to tell them.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:37Speaker 2: They knew. It's man coverage right now, third and three.
- 21:41Speaker 2: You got to stop this guy from catching the ball.
- 21:43Speaker 2: If he catch it, we ain't got to talk about it.
- 21:45Speaker 2: You know, accountability. Love it.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Well, the thing that also seems to be the case
- 21:50Speaker 1: about the football accountability, and you tell me if I'm
- 21:53Speaker 1: wrong here, but it sounds as though the vast majority
- 21:57Speaker 1: of the times when people are giving you those words,
- 22:01Speaker 1: they are correct.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Right?
- 22:03Speaker 1: Like, the thing that gets unwieldy, I think, at these
- 22:05Speaker 1: other jobs is, this motherfucker might be telling you anything.
- 22:09Speaker 1: You're like, what are you talking about? That does not
- 22:11Speaker 1: actually apply to what's going on here. It sounds very rare.
- 22:15Speaker 1: It sounds like when somebody gives y'all one of those
- 22:17Speaker 1: speeches at football, and you're like, but wait a minute, brother,
- 22:19Speaker 1: you got this all wrong.
- 22:21Speaker 2: You got to understand, you know, what happened in that situation.
- 22:25Speaker 2: There's no what had happened was, and I... again, there's
- 22:28Speaker 2: some drawbacks to it, but overall it's a place that
- 22:31Speaker 2: I would, that I enjoyed being in because of how
- 22:34Speaker 2: straightforward it was. And there's, and I find myself, I
- 22:39Speaker 2: consider myself to be pretty empathetic and compassionate person. When
- 22:42Speaker 2: people fall short of my expectations in life, I'm willing
- 22:45Speaker 2: to listen to the excuses or explanations and extend you
- 22:49Speaker 2: some level of grace. That's gross because, and I, and
- 22:54Speaker 2: balancing that with my kids is, I mean, it's a
- 22:56Speaker 2: thing where it's like, look, Okay, your computer ain't work. Fine.
- 23:00Speaker 2: You lost your login or whatever. All right, you had
- 23:04Speaker 2: practice and all this other stuff. Yeah, it was real hard.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Did you get the assignment done on time? No, that's
- 23:12Speaker 2: on you. You can tell me all excuses. I'm sorry.
- 23:15Speaker 2: I love you. That sucks. It's happened to me before too.
- 23:18Speaker 2: But we're going to have to figure out how we
- 23:19Speaker 2: can fix this. But what we're not going to do
- 23:21Speaker 2: is say, oh, no, it's not your fault. It's all
- 23:23Speaker 2: his fault. It's still your fault. It's still your fault.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Whether you want to accept it or not, it's your fault.
- 23:30Speaker 2: If it ain't your fault, it don't matter. It's your problem.
- 23:34Speaker 2: You tell me all this shit, you still got a zero.
- 23:36Speaker 2: You still get taxed some points on your grade. As
- 23:39Speaker 2: you can tell, I had to come home and straight
- 23:42Speaker 2: some shit out recently. It stressed me out. I don't
- 23:46Speaker 2: want to hear that shit, man. I don't.
- 23:49Speaker 1: You know what? It's interesting to get here that I
- 23:51Speaker 1: feel like as we've talked about these last few years
- 23:54Speaker 1: of Patrick Mahomes, The thing of those years of Mahomes
- 23:58Speaker 1: that I've truly come to appreciate is, hey, man, Cam
- 24:00Speaker 1: Newton was like this, too. No excuses. Like, okay, well,
- 24:04Speaker 1: I guess we just got to figure something else out. Hey, man,
- 24:06Speaker 1: maybe I should have thrown it a little softer, and
- 24:08Speaker 1: then his wide-open ass would have caught the ball. And
- 24:10Speaker 1: he says that without sounding passive-aggressive. Like, look, this is
- 24:15Speaker 1: who he is. I recognize that. I could be like
- 24:18Speaker 1: eight different people.
- 24:19Speaker 2: I mean, you saw Cameron Ward last weekend. We asked.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Oh my God, I can't believe how much, the one
- 24:27Speaker 1: that got me, and we played it, but he was like, ass?
- 24:30Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Like, he's just, he's just like, there's no need for
- 24:35Speaker 1: us to be dishonest about what's going on here.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Right. There's no need for me to tell you, and
- 24:40Speaker 2: I'll go on to go in depth later on. We
- 24:42Speaker 2: can talk about specific ass behavior and specific reasons why
- 24:46Speaker 2: we ass, but first, the headline in Big Bo' Loves,
- 24:50Speaker 2: Above the Fold, We ass. We need to know it.
- 24:55Speaker 2: We can't be un-ass until we address it back. We ass. Right.
- 24:59Speaker 1: And by the way, he did that while I think
- 25:03Speaker 1: being a touch more dignified than people realize, or diplomatic
- 25:07Speaker 1: is the word I'm looking for, because he did not
- 25:09Speaker 1: give the most obvious answer to what the most ass part,
- 25:13Speaker 1: like what the muscle of this ass... I don't know
- 25:16Speaker 1: if it's the muscle or the... hole in this case, right?
- 25:20Speaker 1: But we know, you know what? It's the hole because
- 25:24Speaker 1: it's the stinkiest part of the team, which is their
- 25:27Speaker 1: coach stinks.
- 25:29Speaker 2: There we go. And the thing is, their coach knows.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Maybe it's not going to be Cameron Ward telling him,
- 25:37Speaker 2: but he knows. Somebody's telling him. That's exactly it.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Everything else that's going on is the muscle. Everything else
- 25:45Speaker 1: is the booty. But we talk about ass we talk
- 25:50Speaker 1: about the essence of it we talk about the epicenter
- 25:55Speaker 1: it is it.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Is a defining trait like all that other stuff you
- 25:59Speaker 2: can find elsewhere right you can't find that.
- 26:03Speaker 1: This is this is like it's y'all's purpose time to

- 27:47Speaker 1: Dominique, you are a labor guy. You have worked for
- 27:50Speaker 1: the National Basketball Players Association. You're the past president of
- 27:54Speaker 1: the NFL Players Association. Nafisa Collier sat down and gave
- 28:00Speaker 1: a four-minute statement at her postseason press conference. That, I mean,
- 28:08Speaker 1: anybody that's ever wanted to, she was kind of like
- 28:11Speaker 1: Cam Ward. If Cam Ward didn't raise his voice and
- 28:13Speaker 1: they were like, so Cam Ward, what do you think
- 28:16Speaker 1: about the commissioner of the WNBA? We keep it at
- 28:19Speaker 1: a buck.
- 28:20Speaker 2: She ass. Oh, I loved it. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
- 28:28Speaker 2: It's not something I would have done. I think that
- 28:30Speaker 2: there's fair reasons to criticize the way that she went
- 28:34Speaker 2: about it. Like the private conversations. Like I, I don't
- 28:37Speaker 2: think that you can... I don't love sharing what happened
- 28:41Speaker 2: in these private conversations. But sometimes you're going to make
- 28:45Speaker 2: some mistakes and the bottom line got to cross. You
- 28:50Speaker 2: need to find some ways to create leverage points where
- 28:52Speaker 2: you can in CBA negotiations. Perpetuating the... And she's not
- 28:58Speaker 2: creating this, but perpetuating, finding ways to put gas on
- 29:01Speaker 2: the fire that the commissioner is... unfair or incompetent or
- 29:07Speaker 2: anything like that works in negotiations. That tilts the favor,
- 29:11Speaker 2: that tilts the energy, the public energy and the internal
- 29:16Speaker 2: energy in your favor until they do something about it.
- 29:19Speaker 2: And also just destabilize it, what's happening over there from
- 29:21Speaker 2: a strategic standpoint. I'm not saying that this is all strategic.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Some of this to me was also like she wanted
- 29:26Speaker 2: to get this stuff off her chest. But the fact
- 29:28Speaker 2: is a written statement. She was prepared. She obviously was
- 29:31Speaker 2: waiting until her exit. to use it so it doesn't
- 29:34Speaker 2: become like a storyline for her team going forward, but
- 29:39Speaker 2: I loved it. We can discuss the individual things that
- 29:42Speaker 2: she accused Kathy of. But it's just I mean, it's
- 29:47Speaker 2: going to be a fight. And I think you and
- 29:49Speaker 2: I were texting about this and you made the point.
- 29:52Speaker 2: That's a good one is it's the most important one.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Y'all don't pay them enough.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Y'all don't pay them.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Enough to think that they won't shut it down.
- 30:00Speaker 1: She got her own league, right? They got their own
- 30:05Speaker 1: other league that's going on up here.
- 30:07Speaker 2: That's where she said the conversations were being had, which
- 30:09Speaker 2: was funny. Was like, yeah, this was at Unrivaled, at
- 30:13Speaker 2: the place that pays us more fairly. She said some
- 30:17Speaker 2: crazy shit.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Right, like what can the WNBA take away from Nafisa Collier?
- 30:25Speaker 1: other than a low-paying job, right? Or like a relatively
- 30:29Speaker 1: low-paying job. But what is it that she got to
- 30:31Speaker 1: be afraid? Man, they're going to blackball me out of
- 30:33Speaker 1: the WNBA. Let me tell you something. You get black
- 30:36Speaker 1: ball allegedly Colin Kaepernick out of the NFL and everybody
- 30:40Speaker 1: going to go out there and play football. That is
- 30:43Speaker 1: not what is going to happen in this league. If
- 30:46Speaker 1: you decided to do something retributive toward her on the base.
- 30:49Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 30:51Speaker 1: That ain't, that ain't, uh-uh, uh-uh. They going to have,
- 30:53Speaker 1: it ain't just going to be about them t-shirts they
- 30:55Speaker 1: press up and go out there and wear. Nah, dog,
- 30:58Speaker 1: that ain't happening. I would, I want to say this
- 31:00Speaker 1: about the private conversation part. And for people who don't
- 31:03Speaker 1: know exactly what Kyle, you said, One thing she mentioned, well,
- 31:06Speaker 1: first of all, one of the all-time great quotes, when
- 31:09Speaker 1: she said, we have the best fans in the league,
- 31:11Speaker 1: the best fans in the world. We have the best
- 31:14Speaker 1: athletes in the world. We have the worst leadership in
- 31:17Speaker 1: the world. And she is referring to the commissioner as
- 31:20Speaker 1: Kathy over, Kathy Engelbert is her name, over and over
- 31:23Speaker 1: and over again. Like this was, there were no strays
- 31:26Speaker 1: to be caught here. It was direct. And one thing
- 31:29Speaker 1: she said was that, Kaya says that young players like
- 31:35Speaker 1: Angel Reese, Kalen Clark, and Paige Beckers are making so
- 31:39Speaker 1: much money for this league, but they receive so little
- 31:43Speaker 1: money for their first four years in the league, right?
- 31:46Speaker 1: Which I thought was a very interesting phrasing because you
- 31:48Speaker 1: could argue that after those four years, they'll probably still
- 31:50Speaker 1: be underpaid, but she kept it very specific, you know,
- 31:53Speaker 1: to the context of the first four years. And then says,
- 31:57Speaker 1: that the commissioner has told her that those women should
- 32:00Speaker 1: drop to their knees and say thank you to her
- 32:03Speaker 1: for the media deal that she negotiated and the argument
- 32:07Speaker 1: that the WNBA platform is what allows these women to
- 32:12Speaker 1: then make their money off the court, which, number one,
- 32:17Speaker 1: is wholly incorrect. I think we would all agree that
- 32:21Speaker 1: the platform of college basketball is what built the stardom
- 32:25Speaker 1: of those women. Like, I mean, you tell me if
- 32:28Speaker 1: I'm wrong here, but I think that's very clear.
- 32:30Speaker 2: I think, yeah, that's absolutely obvious. But I think what
- 32:34Speaker 2: Kathy is saying is once you leave college, then you
- 32:37Speaker 2: can't get endorsements if you're not doing something. Like, if
- 32:40Speaker 2: you don't have an American league to play in, Nike
- 32:43Speaker 2: or Under Armour or whoever is not going to pay
- 32:45Speaker 2: you the money to be a part of State Farm,
- 32:48Speaker 2: to be a part of their product, if you're playing
- 32:51Speaker 2: overseas only in games that we don't see or necessarily
- 32:54Speaker 2: care about.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Hey, brother, I hear you. Kaitlin Clark can play for
- 32:58Speaker 1: the Globetrotters or the Savannah Bananas. Don't you worry. They'll, uh,
- 33:03Speaker 1: they'd have been someplace to put her. But anyway, um, that,
- 33:07Speaker 1: those last two things where she said, where Nabi Zakaia
- 33:10Speaker 1: said that that's what the commissioner told her. Those were
- 33:13Speaker 1: in private conversations and she offered them in public. I
- 33:18Speaker 1: would make the argument that, that when you say something
- 33:21Speaker 1: like that in private, you know that ain't staying private
- 33:25Speaker 1: for very long. Now, what Collier could have said was,
- 33:29Speaker 1: I know that the commissioner believes and then said the
- 33:33Speaker 1: exact same thing, right? Maybe it would be a similar
- 33:37Speaker 1: violation of trust, but it lands differently. It goes over differently.
- 33:42Speaker 1: But in the end, I don't think any of that matters. Now,
- 33:45Speaker 1: what I don't know, is what this carries on and
- 33:49Speaker 1: continues into. Because, so people got mad at me. Because
- 33:54Speaker 1: during the All-Star festivities they had, when the Stud Buds
- 33:59Speaker 1: were out there live streaming Life, and Kathy came and
- 34:02Speaker 1: kicked it with them, and somebody was making some criticism
- 34:06Speaker 1: of the fact that this was not a good look
- 34:08Speaker 1: for the league. And I was like, look, I don't
- 34:09Speaker 1: really know about that. I just hope that everybody here
- 34:11Speaker 1: understands that this woman is not your friend. And I
- 34:15Speaker 1: got hammered by a bunch of people who made the
- 34:17Speaker 1: argument that these are grown women. They've gone this far.
- 34:20Speaker 1: They know better. And I'm like, look, my existence in
- 34:23Speaker 1: sports is just a little bit different. Dominique, I think
- 34:25Speaker 1: that you would agree with me on this. It takes
- 34:26Speaker 1: some of y'all boys a while before you realize this
- 34:28Speaker 1: because the commissioner dapped you up that he's not your friend.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Matt Shaw, I don't know if you saw this, but
- 34:33Speaker 1: he wrote his manifesto for wanting to be the president
- 34:36Speaker 1: of the union, which is really interesting. But an important
- 34:38Speaker 1: point he made was. Somebody from the PA should also
- 34:42Speaker 1: be on stage to welcome you not just into the league,
- 34:45Speaker 1: but to welcome you into the union, because ultimately the
- 34:48Speaker 1: commissioner is not your friend.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:51Speaker 1: This is something that people struggle with across the board.
- 34:53Speaker 1: I was a little bit surprised that people were upset
- 34:56Speaker 1: with me for making that statement. There is your proof
- 34:59Speaker 1: if you didn't get it though, right? So maybe everybody
- 35:02Speaker 1: understood it already, but I feel like if it was
- 35:04Speaker 1: already really understood like that, Nafis Akali, you don't need
- 35:07Speaker 1: to get out here and say this in front of
- 35:09Speaker 1: the world. But this is the truth. That's not your friend.
- 35:11Speaker 1: They're about to go into a labor negotiation that's going
- 35:14Speaker 1: to be really hard for a lot of people to
- 35:16Speaker 1: watch because this league doesn't just sell itself as a league.
- 35:19Speaker 1: It sells itself as a cause. It sells itself about
- 35:22Speaker 1: something greater and, you know, a lot of girl power,
- 35:26Speaker 1: girl boss type stuff, right? And now you about to
- 35:29Speaker 1: see that girl boss is going to try to break
- 35:31Speaker 1: y'all because capitalism don't believe in none of that shit
- 35:34Speaker 1: that y'all are talking about right now, right? It's the
- 35:36Speaker 1: same thing with people like, we need Black owners. They
- 35:39Speaker 1: going to do the same shit these other people are
- 35:41Speaker 1: out here doing. That's what's going to be a part
- 35:44Speaker 1: of watching this is going to be that part. And
- 35:47Speaker 1: I love hearing it from Collier because I'm like, okay,
- 35:49Speaker 1: so you recognize it's a war going on outside. No
- 35:53Speaker 1: one is safe.
- 35:54Speaker 2: So we need Black owners is.
- 35:58Speaker 2: So you just want another reason to be disappointed in them.
- 36:02Speaker 2: I mean, first of all, what it requires to become
- 36:06Speaker 2: an owner of a team is an extensive vetting process.
- 36:09Speaker 2: And oftentimes, they have already been minority owners on other teams.
- 36:13Speaker 2: They've worked their way all the way through this process.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Trust me. They are not... Whoever becomes the owner of
- 36:19Speaker 2: a team is not going to be the freedom fighter
- 36:21Speaker 2: that you believe they should be.
- 36:23Speaker 1: No, they weed those out!
- 36:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so they... We doze out. And also there's, there's, yeah,
- 36:33Speaker 2: I be careful the way that I want to say this,
- 36:36Speaker 2: but I, I get that there is a value to
- 36:39Speaker 2: feeling like we're closer to an equitable society. If there
- 36:44Speaker 2: is representation, right. It's hope that no one thinks that
- 36:47Speaker 2: the representation is going to change the status quo. You
- 36:51Speaker 2: just say like, Oh, maybe the path is a little clearer.
- 36:54Speaker 2: That aside, I remember working at the NBA PA, and
- 36:58Speaker 2: also after I left, I just kept saying about Adam Silver,
- 37:04Speaker 2: because he's the nicest guy. He's so charismatic. I mean,
- 37:08Speaker 2: charismatic is the wrong word, but he comes across as
- 37:11Speaker 2: very genuine. He's a kind guy. There were some issues
- 37:14Speaker 2: that came up that made it very easy for him
- 37:16Speaker 2: to put himself on the right side of it. He
- 37:19Speaker 2: was the opposite of David Stern. He showed some respect
- 37:22Speaker 2: to the players in a way that he didn't before.
- 37:25Speaker 2: And I was the whole time saying, like, look, when
- 37:28Speaker 2: it comes time to make some choices, I do not
- 37:32Speaker 2: want us to have positioned him as the friendly owner
- 37:36Speaker 2: or the friendly commissioner that cares about us. Because then
- 37:39Speaker 2: it makes it so much harder, particularly in the media,
- 37:42Speaker 2: when we're trying to galvanize some support. Everyone's going to say,
- 37:45Speaker 2: but Adam, he's a good guy. Yeah, he did a
- 37:48Speaker 2: lot of good things. But right now, he tried to
- 37:51Speaker 2: cut our throat. And I think that's the point. And
- 37:53Speaker 2: you made this point about their league being kind of
- 37:56Speaker 2: a cause. Also, I think there's a ton of other
- 37:59Speaker 2: context around talking to and talking about women's sports, that
- 38:03Speaker 2: there's a defensiveness. It feels like if you're telling them, don't, like,
- 38:08Speaker 2: this ain't a good look, don't trust that she's going
- 38:11Speaker 2: to look out for you, you would have said that
- 38:13Speaker 2: to anybody and have said that across other sports. But
- 38:16Speaker 2: I think it probably comes across as, like, these women
- 38:19Speaker 2: need some help. They don't know that they get tricked.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Listen here, young ladies.
- 38:23Speaker 2: You need to know.
- 38:24Speaker 1: It was more like, hey, young blood.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Exactly. Let me put you on game.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Let me put you on game. She's showing up at
- 38:33Speaker 1: your little party.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Oh, go, Kathy. Go, Kathy. Right? It's like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Kathy, bad news. the piece of collier did not need
- 38:42Speaker 1: to hear that from me the piece of collier so
- 38:46Speaker 1: maybe i got it all the way wrong right maybe
- 38:48Speaker 1: maybe they all the piece of collier i could be
- 38:50Speaker 1: the one that got it bad but she sat there
- 38:52Speaker 1: with a straight face and ran through that whole thing
- 38:55Speaker 1: i wouldn't know what question to ask after that what
- 38:59Speaker 1: are we supposed to do that's the kind of thing
- 39:00Speaker 1: where you be in there like yo.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Is this happening she answered all the questions that you
- 39:06Speaker 2: could have asked She was like, she got to go.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Because that would be my question is like, so what
- 39:12Speaker 2: do you do next with her? What do you want? Like,
- 39:14Speaker 2: I would try to get her to determine. She's like, nah,
- 39:17Speaker 2: get her up out of there. So whether she was
- 39:21Speaker 2: at the dance party or not. And that's the thing
- 39:24Speaker 2: You run this risk that you don't run for the
- 39:26Speaker 2: W because of the point you made about the money
- 39:28Speaker 2: that they make is there's enough money and there's enough
- 39:31Speaker 2: success and opportunities for basketball players and a lot of
- 39:34Speaker 2: football players also that they never have to confront. That
- 39:37Speaker 2: was the issue with quarterbacks. You never have to confront
- 39:40Speaker 2: that you are one of us, not one of them.
- 39:42Speaker 2: And quarterbacks, they don't find out until later. Like star
- 39:45Speaker 2: quarterbacks don't find out until later that you are– They
- 39:49Speaker 2: treat you like you one of them, but you actually
- 39:51Speaker 2: are one of us. And I think that the WNBA
- 39:54Speaker 2: players don't have a, they don't have a hard time.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Like they can go dance with her, but when they
- 39:59Speaker 2: pick up a check, you know, they don't have a
- 40:02Speaker 2: hard time being reminded that they don't really care about us. 9%
- 40:05Speaker 2: is insane.
- 40:09Speaker 1: A salary cap for a whole team is $ 1. 5 million.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Madness.
- 40:15Speaker 1: They play games in arenas, bruh. Like in arenas. They
- 40:20Speaker 1: not out here playing like, like you don't get a
- 40:23Speaker 1: little red ticket at mid one.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Madness. You know? Yeah. Yeah. And on top of it,
- 40:32Speaker 2: it's just like the, the franchise values matter to me
- 40:36Speaker 2: also a lot more than anything. And people are like, well,
- 40:37Speaker 2: they aren't making money. And like, that's a fine thing.
- 40:40Speaker 2: That's an investment. They don't own these teams. Like, yeah,
- 40:44Speaker 2: I'm fine for not making money. If I'm a co-founder
- 40:48Speaker 2: of this particular startup, if I'm a consultant or some
- 40:52Speaker 2: hired help, you're going to pay me the market rate.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Right.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Because I'm not going to be around to cash in
- 40:57Speaker 2: on that stock that you guys are going to be
- 40:59Speaker 2: around to cash in on. So, like, telling me that
- 41:01Speaker 2: while you got $ 100 million franchise value is like, I
- 41:04Speaker 2: don't give a shit how you manage your money.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you can shut the whole thing down
- 41:08Speaker 1: if you want.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Go right ahead.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like, that's always on
- 41:13Speaker 1: the board. You have the option of shutting this down,
- 41:15Speaker 1: but clearly you don't want to shut this down because
- 41:17Speaker 1: clearly there's a value that you derive. When Ballmer first
- 41:21Speaker 1: bought the Clippers, I forget who it was that wrote
- 41:22Speaker 1: the article about yet, and watch all the losses they're
- 41:25Speaker 1: going to take. Just for the tax benefits that are
- 41:29Speaker 1: provided by this. Like, come on, man, these people ain't
- 41:31Speaker 1: out here because they eat money. The other part is,
- 41:33Speaker 1: let's just say you double the salary from one and
- 41:36Speaker 1: a half to three million. That still feels really low.
- 41:38Speaker 1: I still think that there is a very we don't
- 41:44Speaker 1: have a great answer for what is fair. Right. Or
- 41:49Speaker 1: what is an appropriate wage? For people participating in this league,
- 41:53Speaker 1: I saw Monica was on first take on Wednesday and
- 41:56Speaker 1: she made the point about how female basketball players no
- 42:00Speaker 1: longer want to be treated like they are second class.
- 42:04Speaker 1: But I'm not exactly sure what qualifies as first. You
- 42:09Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like I like I personally just
- 42:11Speaker 1: don't have the answer for what exactly that is. Is
- 42:14Speaker 1: it about money? Is it about the accommodations that are
- 42:17Speaker 1: provided as a team? I know that what it is
- 42:19Speaker 1: right now isn't going to work if for no other
- 42:21Speaker 1: reason than respect is conferred upon people in this society
- 42:28Speaker 1: through money. That's the bottom line, right? Forget about what
- 42:32Speaker 1: the balance sheet says. If you pay somebody $ 10 an hour,
- 42:36Speaker 1: you know what they think of that person. And that's
- 42:38Speaker 1: a big part of what we're dealing with here.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Absolutely. And I don't know to your point, what exactly
- 42:44Speaker 2: is fair and it's impossible. Like, because we, we've been
- 42:47Speaker 2: trained to kind of tie there to tie athletes income
- 42:52Speaker 2: to a percentage of revenue, because that's how we've kind
- 42:55Speaker 2: of always negotiated it. And, and so we can continue
- 42:59Speaker 2: to use that, which may not be the best way
- 43:02Speaker 2: to determine how valuable a player is. It's fine, but
- 43:05Speaker 2: we'll continue to use that. I don't know what the
- 43:07Speaker 2: exact right number is, but I'm going to need you
- 43:11Speaker 2: motherfuckers to get in the neighborhood. 9%, Bomani, 9% of revenue. Like,
- 43:18Speaker 2: I'm going to need you to get in the neighborhood. So,
- 43:21Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 43:23Speaker 1: By the way, right fast, on the revenue split, because
- 43:26Speaker 1: revenue splits have been getting smaller and smaller and smaller
- 43:29Speaker 1: over the years, I want to give a measure of perspective.
- 43:32Speaker 1: When I was a kid, them splits was well over 50%
- 43:36Speaker 1: on the sides of the players. Yep. Like they were
- 43:39Speaker 1: in the 65% range in some cases. I think the
- 43:44Speaker 1: NBA at one point was 65% of the revenue split.
- 43:46Speaker 1: And every year the pie gets bigger and the split
- 43:49Speaker 1: gets smaller. Now, of course, this is a larger societal issue,
- 43:52Speaker 1: which is corporate profits higher than ever, wages flat, right?
- 43:57Speaker 1: The rich people keep getting more money. Everybody else's situation
- 44:01Speaker 1: stays flat. Schaub in his manifesto also made this point about, yeah,
- 44:05Speaker 1: the salary cap has gone up by whatever multiple, but
- 44:07Speaker 1: the franchise values have gone up by 10.
- 44:10Speaker 2: And I think so we use revenue split, but revenue
- 44:14Speaker 2: is one of those terms that can mean a bunch
- 44:17Speaker 2: of different things depending on how you define them. And
- 44:20Speaker 2: so like we would have audits when I was at
- 44:22Speaker 2: the basketball union to go figure out where all the
- 44:25Speaker 2: money was. And every year they would have to give
- 44:26Speaker 2: us some money because we found some way for them
- 44:29Speaker 2: to try to take some revenue and say, Oh no,
- 44:31Speaker 2: this ain't basketball revenue. This is some other revenue. And
- 44:34Speaker 2: the reason why you use revenue is because like, yeah, profits,
- 44:36Speaker 2: you can say this cost that whatever you can change,
- 44:39Speaker 2: you can play with the books, but you can always
- 44:41Speaker 2: play with the books. So I, it's hard to figure
- 44:43Speaker 2: out exactly what, um, what the right number is, but
- 44:49Speaker 2: you can't really get around them. So that's, I guess
- 44:51Speaker 2: that's my major point is like, I'm not going to
- 44:53Speaker 2: come definitively definitively on what people deserve or how much
- 44:57Speaker 2: they should be paid. But I know what's what feels unfair.
- 45:00Speaker 2: And that feels unfair.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I think that this is interesting as the idea of
- 45:06Speaker 1: a labor, if there is a, if it comes to
- 45:08Speaker 1: the point of a work stoppage, which I think it
- 45:09Speaker 1: probably will.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I think this is the rare case where the owners
- 45:13Speaker 1: have more to lose for the work stoppage than the
- 45:15Speaker 1: players do. because this is not, you're going to be
- 45:18Speaker 1: missing your million dollar a week check, right? Whole lot
- 45:21Speaker 1: of these women can just go over to Ben and
- 45:22Speaker 1: Jerry's and scoop their way to the same money. The
- 45:26Speaker 1: way they fucking getting paid. You know what I mean?
- 45:28Speaker 2: Like, in fact.
- 45:29Speaker 1: They might not want to come back to work.
- 45:31Speaker 2: And I mean, if they, if unrivaled, like the stars
- 45:35Speaker 2: can go do stuff like that. And those are the
- 45:37Speaker 2: people that they care about. Like, let's be real about this.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Like if, if Caitlin Clark held a one person strike,
- 45:46Speaker 2: they would pay more attention than if there was 50%
- 45:50Speaker 2: of the league, the bottom half of the league said
- 45:53Speaker 2: they were not going to show up. So.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Kalen Clark, Barnstorm and Tour.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Cash. She could make money for everybody.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Right, because what the WNBA doesn't have is brand equity.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Nobody cares about your teams. There's no individual franchise that
- 46:11Speaker 1: rings out in this country. You lack the brand equity.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Wherever Kaitlyn Clark go, that's where the circus is going
- 46:18Speaker 1: to go. Her as an example, because I don't want
- 46:21Speaker 1: to act like she's the only person. But if they
- 46:24Speaker 1: really wanted to do this up, Kaitlyn Clark and her
- 46:27Speaker 1: squad versus Angel Reese and her squad.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 46:31Speaker 1: And before every game, they pretend like they shooting for teams.
- 46:35Speaker 1: But in the end, all it turns into is Kaitlyn
- 46:39Speaker 1: Clark and Sophie Cunningham.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Iowa versus LSU, baby. Bring it back.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Bring it back. Bring it back.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Bring it back, boy.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. They'll make all the money.
- 46:50Speaker 1: In fact, the WNBA will change up their whole situation.
- 46:52Speaker 1: They'll be like, yo, we got to come up with
- 46:53Speaker 1: a new approach.
- 46:55Speaker 2: The brand equity point is, you know, they would make
- 46:58Speaker 2: a ton of money if they just had the Angel
- 47:01Speaker 2: Reese team just travel through the Midwest and play collection teams.
- 47:06Speaker 2: And then bring Caitlin Clark, all, all the major cities
- 47:09Speaker 2: on the East coast. Right. Like, we just got to
- 47:11Speaker 2: show up with your crew and major cities, East coast.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Do it.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Do it. Do it. Like full on wrestling. We're like,
- 47:15Speaker 1: I didn't like Caitlin Clark come out from the back.
- 47:17Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 47:18Speaker 1: Or like Angel Reese, just sneak into the game. Just, just, just,
- 47:21Speaker 1: just come out.
- 47:22Speaker 2: Like, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Is Angel Reese checking in? She wasn't even supposed to
- 47:25Speaker 1: be here.
- 47:26Speaker 2: The brand equity point is a great one. Cause we,
- 47:29Speaker 2: we've thought about, um, or discuss having our draft as
- 47:34Speaker 2: a players union, have, the draft telecast our own separate
- 47:40Speaker 2: draft telecast where you wait for the draft to happen
- 47:43Speaker 2: and all the players are at a union party and
- 47:46Speaker 2: then they do the whole charade because there's no reason
- 47:49Speaker 2: that you have to be there once they call your
- 47:51Speaker 2: name we can have the charade at our place but
- 47:55Speaker 2: and then we also like bounced around the idea some
- 47:57Speaker 2: players wanted to like start a competing league but the
- 48:01Speaker 2: conversation always ends on there is brand equity like These
- 48:05Speaker 2: people are really Steelers fans. They're not going to show
- 48:09Speaker 2: up for the Pittsburgh Stallions. Like, that don't get them excited.
- 48:13Speaker 2: There's some value to that that you can't lie about.
- 48:16Speaker 2: And the WNBA can't say the same thing. Like, they
- 48:20Speaker 2: might have had a better chance if all the women's
- 48:22Speaker 2: teams were just the same name as the men's teams. Like,
- 48:25Speaker 2: there might have been some brand equity there. But, like,
- 48:28Speaker 2: don't nobody care about the Valkyrie?
- 48:29Speaker 1: Yo, people got really mad at Ethan Strauss for making
- 48:32Speaker 1: that suggestion. Making them all so like the W-Nicks or
- 48:38Speaker 1: the W-Nets would probably be a better example. The W-Hawks
- 48:41Speaker 1: or whatever it was. I'm not exactly sure why people
- 48:43Speaker 1: got so mad, but this is actually what happens overseas. Yeah.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Like it's not the worst for them. It's not attaching
- 48:49Speaker 1: yourself to a better known brand is I mean, look, man,
- 48:53Speaker 1: the Boston Braves. Which one was it? A lot of
- 48:57Speaker 1: those baseball teams, like that was a thing that you
- 48:59Speaker 1: would have the same name, Giants and Giants in New York,
- 49:01Speaker 1: for example, right? Like, you know, the football Giants, the
- 49:04Speaker 1: baseball Giants, like college. Yeah. People attach themselves. This is
- 49:08Speaker 1: how it goes. I want to switch gears a little
- 49:10Speaker 1: bit before we get out of here. What do you
- 49:12Speaker 1: think about that boy Shador doing that Panama situation? And
- 49:15Speaker 1: for those who don't know, the Browns put Joe Flacco
- 49:18Speaker 1: on the bench. They're going to start dealing.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Gabriel.
- 49:20Speaker 1: I would like to remind you that I told you
- 49:22Speaker 1: guys Shador Sanders is going to get to start at
- 49:23Speaker 1: some point because everybody else is terrible. But he's still
- 49:26Speaker 1: the third string quarterback. And so he was asked about
- 49:29Speaker 1: it and he moved his lips and no words came out.
- 49:33Speaker 1: And that is exactly what happened. He acted like he
- 49:37Speaker 1: pantomimed talking to the media.
- 49:40Speaker 2: It would have been better if that was you just
- 49:42Speaker 2: like a figure of speech. You know, like when people–
- 49:44Speaker 2: when quarterbacks do quarterback speak and essentially they're moving their
- 49:48Speaker 2: lips but not actually saying anything. Like, Shador should have
- 49:50Speaker 2: done that. I don't know, man.
- 49:52Speaker 1: Like, it's the– I mean, that was a great time
- 49:54Speaker 1: for quarterback speech. Just going to keep on chopping wood, baby.
- 49:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Like, I can't– I control what I can control. Like,
- 50:00Speaker 2: this is a message to me that I got to
- 50:02Speaker 2: be better. I know that my opportunity going to come.
- 50:05Speaker 2: I don't know, man. Like, it's so– so many platitudes
- 50:10Speaker 2: that you could have rolled out. Like, I hate to
- 50:12Speaker 2: be judgmental on these sorts of things. So like, ultimately
- 50:16Speaker 2: it probably won't have a major effect. I don't give
- 50:18Speaker 2: a damn about it, but it does speak to, I
- 50:21Speaker 2: think it speaks to how he is in that building,
- 50:27Speaker 2: which is again, I don't want to make too far
- 50:29Speaker 2: of a leap, but it just like, if you're unwilling
- 50:32Speaker 2: to say in that moment, man, I love my teammates.
- 50:36Speaker 2: We just try and get a win. I do whatever
- 50:37Speaker 2: I do to get support. I don't know, the bullshit.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Or even say no comment. Just like that is, I
- 50:43Speaker 2: don't know. It just feels like it draws attention and
- 50:45Speaker 2: it opens yourself up unnecessarily to some bullshit.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Well, let me ask this question. What conversations have Jimmy
- 50:54Speaker 1: Haslam and Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry had such that
- 51:02Speaker 1: I don't really be hearing nobody talking about firing them.
- 51:06Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, I understand that Jimmy
- 51:11Speaker 1: Haslam's the one that's got to eat this because the
- 51:13Speaker 1: big part of why they're here is they made one
- 51:15Speaker 1: of the worst quarterback decisions of all time when they
- 51:17Speaker 1: brought our own nasty ass Deshaun Watson in and gave
- 51:19Speaker 1: up the world and gave up all that money, right?
- 51:22Speaker 1: That's part of how they ended up in the situation
- 51:25Speaker 1: that they have now. They went and got Joe Flacco,
- 51:27Speaker 1: which to me, knowing what we've known about this franchise
- 51:31Speaker 1: since it came back to life in 1999, you did
- 51:34Speaker 1: that because the fans like him. the fans enjoyed that year.
- 51:37Speaker 1: So you, you knew you weren't going to be good.
- 51:39Speaker 1: So you gave him a feel good. And then you
- 51:41Speaker 1: tried to make some cheap plays underneath him to maybe
- 51:45Speaker 1: get a quarterback. That's fine. I get all that, but
- 51:48Speaker 1: that normally don't save nobody's job. Like it is amazing.
- 51:51Speaker 1: And I don't think any of this is necessarily Stefanski's fault,
- 51:54Speaker 1: but if none of these young quarterbacks show that they
- 51:57Speaker 1: got anything, then what are we saying here? Like, did
- 52:01Speaker 1: he also not have to let the guy that couldn't
- 52:04Speaker 1: quite get it right with Baker?
- 52:05Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know. It's a good point because normally
- 52:09Speaker 2: you don't stick around if you've been this bad for
- 52:11Speaker 2: this long. They snuck into the playoffs, was that two
- 52:14Speaker 2: years ago? To your point, Joe Flacco feel good. He
- 52:17Speaker 2: threw back-to-back pick sixes and then we wasn't feeling good
- 52:20Speaker 2: no more. I think you could, if you're someone who's like, yeah,
- 52:26Speaker 2: I don't want the results to taint the decision process.
- 52:30Speaker 2: I want to trust the people that are doing it.
- 52:31Speaker 2: You can make a great argument for Andrew Barry having
- 52:34Speaker 2: done a good job. especially if you are going to
- 52:38Speaker 2: take the Deshaun Watson decision off his jacket, which I
- 52:42Speaker 2: think we all have already taken that off. Like we
- 52:45Speaker 2: put that on the owner, like the roster that they've
- 52:48Speaker 2: been able to continue to put together has been pretty
- 52:51Speaker 2: good one. And so like, I guess I get your
- 52:56Speaker 2: point based on the results. Normally we move on from
- 52:58Speaker 2: these guys, but based on the process, again, if we
- 53:03Speaker 2: can get off the Deshaun Watson thing and say that's
- 53:05Speaker 2: not on them, which is combined with moving on from
- 53:09Speaker 2: Baker and having Baker play through injury and not accepting
- 53:12Speaker 2: that there should be some discount rate on the way
- 53:14Speaker 2: that we grade him. Like that ain't on them. Then
- 53:17Speaker 2: they do it a good job. I know.
- 53:19Speaker 1: But it's amazing that they are. That's all I'm saying. Like,
- 53:21Speaker 1: I want to know the conversation that everybody like, how
- 53:25Speaker 1: down does everybody around have to be on the Deshaun
- 53:28Speaker 1: Watson decision that the people ain't clamoring in that way?
- 53:32Speaker 1: Or maybe they are because it's Cleveland and they, you know,
- 53:34Speaker 1: They ain't even got cookies at the Doubletree, man. They
- 53:36Speaker 1: be salty as hell all the time. I'ma say that
- 53:40Speaker 1: every time. Just so everybody understands.
- 53:44Speaker 2: They ain't got no.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Man, like, Cleveland, the brief moment I was there was like,
- 53:50Speaker 1: Baltimore just not as charming.
- 53:55Speaker 2: Baltimore got some charm, man.
- 53:57Speaker 1: It does. That's exactly what I'm saying. But what if
- 53:59Speaker 1: you take the charm out?
- 54:01Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fair.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Charm city my ass. That's maybe what we call Cleveland,
- 54:06Speaker 1: charmless city.
- 54:10Speaker 2: When I had to defend Baltimore on the East Coast,
- 54:13Speaker 2: I try to remind people that Baltimore is not an
- 54:15Speaker 2: East Coast city. It's a Midwest city that happens to
- 54:17Speaker 2: be on the East Coast. It's a Rust Belt-ass town, baby.
- 54:21Speaker 2: So don't compare us to D.C., Philly, and New York.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Those are different types of cities. We are fancy Cleveland.
- 54:27Speaker 2: We off the hook Pittsburgh. Yeah, we are fly ass Detroit.
- 54:34Speaker 2: That's us, man. But we're not a low budget DC
- 54:38Speaker 2: because that's not, we're not going for that. Not even
- 54:40Speaker 2: our aim.
- 54:41Speaker 1: The first time you said that, I was like, oh, okay,
- 54:44Speaker 1: this makes sense. But with Shador, it's, look, I'll tell
- 54:48Speaker 1: you again, one day he's going to play. There's just
- 54:51Speaker 1: no way around it because like, Dylan Gabriel, man, I
- 54:54Speaker 1: saw him out there in the game, and it looked
- 54:56Speaker 1: like when they let a little homie go through it
- 54:59Speaker 1: and they let him get a touchdown at the spring game,
- 55:02Speaker 1: that's how he looked out there.
- 55:06Speaker 2: They put my man, he going to make his first
- 55:08Speaker 2: career start in Europe against Brian Flores, crazy-ass defense.
- 55:15Speaker 1: Yo, he going to be standing on his tippy toes
- 55:18Speaker 1: looking at calculus.
- 55:20Speaker 2: That's right. I forgot he 5'10, right?
- 55:22Speaker 1: Yeah, he's like the littlest left-hander.
- 55:25Speaker 2: I hope that they got some design QB runs in there, man.
- 55:30Speaker 2: You got to, because that's the thing. There's no soft spot.
- 55:34Speaker 2: So I agree that trying to look for a bad
- 55:36Speaker 2: team to start your quarterback is probably a bad idea.
- 55:39Speaker 2: But there are teams that are good, but kind of
- 55:44Speaker 2: stagnant and stationary. You know, like we do what we do.
- 55:47Speaker 2: We good. Ryan Velour's team is good and confusing and shit.
- 55:52Speaker 1: It's got to be fun to be somebody like Brian
- 55:55Speaker 1: Flores and you have the opportunity to do this, right?
- 56:01Speaker 1: Like I've talked about this that year that Ohio State
- 56:04Speaker 1: won the national championship in 2014. They lost one game
- 56:08Speaker 1: that year and it was JT Barrett in his second
- 56:11Speaker 1: start against a Bud Foster defense. And you do, but
- 56:15Speaker 1: I am watching with my own eyes from the sideline,
- 56:18Speaker 1: Bud Foster against somebody who had never done this before.
- 56:20Speaker 1: And you could tell he was loving every.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Minute of it.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Like watch, watch what I do now. Watch what I
- 56:25Speaker 1: do now. Right. He out there. And again, it's a
- 56:28Speaker 1: little dude. Watch this.
- 56:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Watch this. And from week to week, the film
- 56:34Speaker 2: can only help you so much Brian Flores defense. Cause
- 56:37Speaker 2: he recognizes it's, it's a level of intelligence and defensive
- 56:40Speaker 2: players that we don't quite extend to them, but it
- 56:43Speaker 2: requires it. And it's, it's the, it's like the third,
- 56:48Speaker 2: fourth order of it is where it's, You're thinking this
- 56:51Speaker 2: because I'm doing that. I know you're thinking this, so
- 56:53Speaker 2: I'm going to do that, which is based on what
- 56:55Speaker 2: I did last week and the week prior to that.
- 56:57Speaker 2: When you watch the Vikings defense from week to week
- 57:00Speaker 2: to week, you recognize that he knows that you're watching film,
- 57:04Speaker 2: and he knows that his tell is this. So he
- 57:07Speaker 2: knows that when you see this, you're going to think that,
- 57:09Speaker 2: and then he goes the next level. It's the chess
- 57:12Speaker 2: shit that we appreciate about quarterbacks that we don't talk
- 57:14Speaker 2: about about defenders.
- 57:15Speaker 1: He's the one of those Belichick guys who's been able
- 57:19Speaker 1: to take that.
- 57:20Speaker 2: Fair point, yeah. Right?
- 57:22Speaker 1: Like, to be that super adaptable, you don't know what's coming.
- 57:26Speaker 1: And I think it may be in part because, don't
- 57:30Speaker 1: tell nobody I said this, but, Maybe this is the
- 57:35Speaker 1: level that he's supposed to be at, right? The supreme
- 57:40Speaker 1: defensive coordinator where you just let him have the whole defense,
- 57:44Speaker 1: like a Vic Fangio type guy. Honestly, perhaps Bill Belichick
- 57:52Speaker 1: without a Tom Brady.
- 57:57Speaker 2: So I might argue, yeah, that's fair. Well, we got
- 58:00Speaker 2: to get that man a Tom Brady then.
- 58:03Speaker 1: There we go. We'll just go get him. You're right.
- 58:09Speaker 1: We'll just go get him one of those right fast
- 58:11Speaker 1: before I get out of here. I feel like we
- 58:13Speaker 1: don't talk enough, and it's in part because I got
- 58:16Speaker 1: off that narcotic, but ain't nobody blacking it up quite
- 58:21Speaker 1: like the Falcons with the black quarterback, the black head coach,
- 58:24Speaker 1: the black general manager. They trying to get it all done.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Michael Penix, thank goodness, finally had him a game where
- 58:30Speaker 1: I thought he looked like he was good because he
- 58:31Speaker 1: was it had not been looking great up until that point. Now,
- 58:35Speaker 1: granted they played against a bad, well, bad Washington because
- 58:40Speaker 1: Jane Daniels was not playing, but Drake London seemed like
- 58:46Speaker 1: another receiver. That's a little bit in jail down there.
- 58:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. It's the style. It's not the, I mean,
- 58:53Speaker 2: all those skill players, man, that's the funny thing is
- 58:56Speaker 2: you see them play and individual plays from Bijan to
- 59:01Speaker 2: London and, to Kyle Pitts where you see a play,
- 59:04Speaker 2: you're like, oh, he's ridiculous. Any team that he's on
- 59:08Speaker 2: better showcase him and they should be good. But it
- 59:11Speaker 2: never quite comes together for an extended period of time
- 59:14Speaker 2: for any of them. It's funny that you pointed that
- 59:17Speaker 2: out about them. It's something that I'm aware of, but
- 59:20Speaker 2: I don't feel about it the same way I feel
- 59:23Speaker 2: like I would have a little while ago. I feel
- 59:25Speaker 2: like it's just a couple years ago when the Ravens
- 59:27Speaker 2: had an all-black quarterback room. That felt like a bigger deal,
- 59:31Speaker 2: which is absurd, considering that they have all black guys
- 59:35Speaker 2: in the most important positions of leadership, except for Arthur
- 59:38Speaker 2: Blank out there with a skinny mustache. Arthur, my guy, man.
- 59:43Speaker 1: Hey, look, some of this ties to Michael Vick, but
- 59:47Speaker 1: there's the day before Arthur got there and the day
- 59:50Speaker 1: after Arthur got there. There's a whole generation that got
- 59:54Speaker 1: no idea how sorry them motherfuckers were for a lifetime, dog.
- 59:58Speaker 1: a lifetime. And then finally, when it looked like they
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: was going to break through to the other side, the
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: man of the year got called soliciting a prostitute on
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Biscayne Boulevard the night before the Super Bowl. And then
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: had a ball through right over his head. Maybe because
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: he was still thinking about what he didn't get.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: His brain was still in jail. Or maybe his brain
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: was still on the streets. I don't know.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: I can't imagine. I just can't imagine that crossing. We
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: give a lot of people some measure of grace because
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: you're dealing with some addiction or something. If that wasn't addiction,
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: I don't know what it is, man. I don't even
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: want to psychoanalyze it. It's just mind-blowing to me. And
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: I know you bring it up a lot. Don't stop
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: bringing it up. It's like the cookies in Cleveland. Please.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Can't do it, man. Never stop.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Okay, it's just such a ridiculous thing, right? Like you
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: think it's ridiculous to go to the Doubletree and they
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: ain't got no cookies. Imagine getting caught the night before
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, solicited in a prostitute, and you playing
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: in the game.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: Trying to get some cookies.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: They ain't have none at they hotel neither, huh? They
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: ain't have none at.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: The man of the year, though.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Man of the year the man of the year that
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: it's honestly it's the man of the.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Year part yeah.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: Like there's a whole lot of other people that if
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: it would be them it wouldn't have been that big
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: a deal but it was the man of the year
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: right like there was some cat that if it would
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: have happened he wouldn't even been ashamed he'd just be
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: like yo my bad joe you know the man of
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: the year that shook up that shook up morale.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: Was it called the Walter Payton Man of the Year
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: back there? They didn't name it? I hope not.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: I think Walter Payton, I think he was still alive.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: So I don't think they had changed it up. But yeah.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: No, no.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Actually, Walter Payton, yes, he was still alive. I feel
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: like I took it to a dark place and that
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: is my fault. And that is Dominique Fosworth. Check him
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: out on the Dominique Fosworth Show. Available where all fine
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: podcasts are given away for free. My brother, I appreciate you.
