- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:17presented by Sherlock Cedry. This episode 574, I'll be host
- 0:21Kyle Korne. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:23Reyes and Nate. How do you do?
- 0:26How do you do? How do you do, Casey?
- 0:28How are we? I love playoff baseball, man.
- 0:32This is just nuts insanity. I love it, it's the best.
- 0:39It's controlled chaos. It's controlled chaos.
- 0:43It it brings out so many different things, like it brings
- 0:48out weird superstitions from fans.
- 0:51It brings out styles of baseball that you don't typically see it
- 0:56not to go off on this like little rant to start it, but I'm
- 1:00going to go off on a little bit of a rant.
- 1:02Start it. Why is it that?
- 1:07And for the record, got called out recently for for for us
- 1:15being too negative all the time, which we can we can be.
- 1:19We can be. I'll just go ahead and say that
- 1:20we can be. You're not wrong, but it's a
- 1:24good it's a good critique. This, this is this isn't me
- 1:29being negative. This is me trying to prop up
- 1:31something that I believe in in a positive way.
- 1:35However, going back to my point, styles of baseball in the post
- 1:37season that you don't typically see, why is it that it's all
- 1:44it's it's launch angle, launch angle, launch angle all year
- 1:50until it comes time for postseason baseball.
- 1:52And then it's like, Hey, you know what, we got to win this
- 1:56game. Let's lay down a bunt.
- 1:59Let's lay down to bunts. Let's let's sprinkle in a a a a
- 2:03couple of hit and runs. It's like, OK, so we recognize
- 2:07that there's value in the small ball approach to the game.
- 2:12And for those saying, well, it's, it's, it's the post
- 2:16season, you got the like, these are must win games.
- 2:18OK, so if they're must win games, why are we utilizing the
- 2:22style of baseball that we have deemed necessary to score runs
- 2:27to win said games? And why aren't we doing more of
- 2:30that during the regular season? That's all I had to say on the
- 2:32matter. I'll hang up and listen.
- 2:35Yeah, you should. It is a good point because we
- 2:39like, I don't know, we see these circumstances where we're like
- 2:43that we need a bunt, like we absolutely need a bunt right
- 2:46here. And the reality is, is that like
- 2:50it's so often that the guy in the box doesn't have that many
- 2:55attempts in the year. And it, let's face it, like it's
- 2:58probably not even really being worked on in the minor league
- 3:01system. Like I'm not trying to come
- 3:06after our game and I don't think it's negative to point out
- 3:13things that has made this game what it is for so long.
- 3:20Analytics have absolutely changed the way things are.
- 3:23But it's like it's annoying that like, oh, let's just throw
- 3:27analytics out the window when it comes post season time, you
- 3:30know, like it, how is it like your Bible during 162?
- 3:36And then it's just an afterthought in the postseason.
- 3:39So I don't, I don't think what you're saying is wrong.
- 3:41I think it's a very good point. And it's a lot of big moments
- 3:47that we've already seen. We're half, we're not even
- 3:49halfway through. And we've seen a lot of big
- 3:52moments in this postseason where it's teams that can execute
- 3:56those small fundamental things. And then you see teams that are
- 4:01very much fumbling the bag on those opportunities.
- 4:06And that's the difference. But that's all it takes in these
- 4:11games. That's all it takes
- 4:13fundamentals. But it's like, I don't think we
- 4:18can just throw the mask of 162 over and be like, it's a long
- 4:21season. Like, no, let's get back to
- 4:24teaching this stuff. Let's get back to being good at
- 4:26that stuff. Yeah.
- 4:28You know, like we're, we've manufactured stolen bases to be
- 4:33back in our game. Like that's been manufactured.
- 4:36Let's be honest. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:38Pitch clock, limited moves, bigger bags that's been
- 4:43manufactured. How do we manufacture other
- 4:50stuff? The bag's huge.
- 4:52Why aren't you hitting the front of the bag when you're going
- 4:54down the first baseline? Why are you hitting the front
- 4:57left corner as you're rounding the bag going home?
- 5:01Bring back fundamentals. That's crazy stuff, dude.
- 5:05I say it all the time. It's like I see stuff on
- 5:08national television that I would get upset at high schoolers for
- 5:11doing. All right, we're teetering into
- 5:14like negative territory, so. That's what it is, though.
- 5:16But it's just like, I think that's what's really refreshing
- 5:21about at least two of these teams in the postseason picture
- 5:25right now that do those types of things correctly.
- 5:30And it's like a well-rounded form of baseball that's being
- 5:33played one of. Which is playing at this very
- 5:38moment. Which brings me to the point
- 5:40that because Major League Baseball decided that we're
- 5:45going to put the Milwaukee and Chicago game on it 9 Eastern
- 5:52when it's what time zone is Milwaukee in?
- 5:59Why are we putting Milwaukee on at 9:00 Eastern?
- 6:04They're in Central. Right.
- 6:06That was my understanding, yeah. Why couldn't we do like a six,
- 6:10eight? Yeah.
- 6:15Anyways, because they started it.
- 6:19I love it because they decided to start this game at 9:00
- 6:22Eastern and I wasn't going to wait till midnight to get this
- 6:26pod started, even though we kind of pushed that anyway.
- 6:31It is now 1140. Because of that, we're going to
- 6:36cover that series at the end just to let this let this
- 6:41particular game finish out, become official.
- 6:45So that's just a little peek behind the curtain into how we
- 6:48do things. So with that said, where do you
- 6:51want to start? Just want to get out of the way.
- 6:55Let's just get out of the way. It's tough.
- 6:58All right, let's let's start with this.
- 7:04Why do why do the sound bites every year have to be anti
- 7:07Yankee? I hate Canada.
- 7:42I couldn't agree more with every last word that he said I had.
- 7:46So I had this thought the other day.
- 7:48Do you ever or do you ever go to a place or maybe this has never
- 7:55happened to you? It happened to me.
- 7:58So I can sort of speak from experience here.
- 8:01I'm curious if you've had this too.
- 8:03Have you ever gone to a place and then like months later, even
- 8:07years later, something kind of crazy happens at that particular
- 8:11spot and you're like, that's crazy.
- 8:13I was literally there and now this thing is happening.
- 8:16Whether, you know, it's like a natural disaster, a crime,
- 8:22something like that. Yeah.
- 8:24I didn't realize when I went, when we shot up to Toronto for a
- 8:29game against the Yankees no less, that I was going to be
- 8:36like that. That would soon be the site of
- 8:44is this a like, is this a crime what we've been witnessing in
- 8:49this series in Toronto? Well, let's not, I mean, let's
- 8:55not shortchange it here. Let's not let's not minimize L.
- 9:00Is an L is an L. Let's not minimize what's been
- 9:04happening in Toronto and and people can point to Game 2 and
- 9:07be like, well, they closed the gap.
- 9:08It was only a six point A6 run loss.
- 9:12Come on. Come on.
- 9:16We got them right where we want them.
- 9:18You. Know all right, let's.
- 9:19Talk we got. We hold all the cards.
- 9:21If if you're unfamiliar with that clip that I played a a
- 9:24minute ago, it was the Grand Slam from Yankee killer man that
- 9:32never wants to play for the New York Yankees in his life,
- 9:36Vladimir Guerrero Junior. That was actually Game 2.
- 9:39So let's start with game one. It's kind of the same thing,
- 9:42honestly. It's just one beat down after
- 9:44the other. 12:50 in favor of the Blue Jays.
- 9:53I mean, the floor is yours, my friend.
- 9:54You. I mean, what what happened?
- 9:57What went wrong game 2:13 to 7:00.
- 10:00But as I mentioned, I mean garbage time runs, if we're
- 10:04being honest here. So really just a couple of beat
- 10:06downs, but this is your team, so I'll let you let you take the
- 10:12ball. Just don't match up well, man,
- 10:15to the Blue Jays, just have the Yankees number all year.
- 10:18They just play. I told you before it like that.
- 10:22It was in the context of being worried about the Red Sox, but
- 10:25it was like there's only two or three teams in the league that
- 10:28like really know how to play the Yankees and just have their
- 10:33number. And unfortunately for the
- 10:35Yankees, they have to go through two of those teams to get where
- 10:40they need to go, and they got through one.
- 10:43But like this one, just like they're just really good.
- 10:48Like you give an inch, they take a mile that's just or a
- 10:50kilometer. Some may say you like that.
- 10:56That's good. This man's quick on his feet
- 10:59after a couple be done. So I'm not going to lie the way
- 11:02you were, the way you were, you know, texting after game two,
- 11:07I'm like, this is a man that understands that that these
- 11:13manhandlings are just a part of the game.
- 11:15It's unfortunate for the Yankees that it's happened back-to-back
- 11:17games in a situ and has put them in a situation to where they're
- 11:21a game away from going home. But the way that you know, the
- 11:26way that you were sort of carrying yourself after game
- 11:28two, I'm thinking to myself, he gets it.
- 11:32He's not almost. It almost kind of surprised me
- 11:35where I was, like I. Appreciate that.
- 11:36Thank you very much. I would have got I would have
- 11:39assumed that you would have been way worse off than you were.
- 11:42But you, you know, you're you you're hitting me with the we
- 11:45got him right where we want him. I'm like, this is a man that's
- 11:48joking. After after these two games, he
- 11:53he must be in good spirits. Well.
- 11:55Here's the reality game one. We were, we were up, we were up
- 12:00north. We were up in the in in a cabin.
- 12:03And you know, what am I? I'm hanging out with my wife in
- 12:07a cabin. Like how?
- 12:08How mad can I get? Some dangers bigger than
- 12:10baseball has, I said. So you know, LL there and then
- 12:17driving back. I, I didn't have service for a
- 12:20lot of it didn't really even have the game on until like the
- 12:224th inning because I just the drive down.
- 12:25It's probably better. And that's, you know, that's
- 12:27where I was like, oh, it's like 4 nothing.
- 12:29And then by the time I like get inside and like put it up on the
- 12:33TV, it's 7 nothing. And I'm like, all right.
- 12:37Well, let's just. Start go ahead and unpack.
- 12:39I'm going to go take a shower. Let's clean up.
- 12:41Let's just like settle in for the rest of our weekend.
- 12:44Then it was 11 nothing. And so I was like, I'm I'm
- 12:47turning this off and I didn't watch.
- 12:49I didn't watch the rest of it because why would I need to do
- 12:53that to myself? You know, why would I need to do
- 12:56that? Why did Well tell me this?
- 12:58Why did Trey Ya Savage feel the need to do what he did to the
- 13:03Yankees? That was.
- 13:05That was Trey. I'll tell you what, Trey Ya
- 13:08Savage is who Cam Schlittler thinks he is.
- 13:13No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 13:17Don't just say what you need to say.
- 13:20Disrespect. No, I'm going to, I'm going to
- 13:22say it. Full disrespect.
- 13:25Full disrespect. Treya Savage is it?
- 13:28Did you see the the curtain call?
- 13:31They brought him out to Hazel May on the mic.
- 13:34She was about to go ask him a question and she steps back
- 13:37because the stadium just comes unglued and he's just taking it
- 13:42all in, looking around, clapping it up.
- 13:46What a moment in Toronto. What a moment for the kid.
- 13:49What a moment for the kid. And didn't feel the need to
- 13:52really run his mouth after the fact, which I thought was a
- 13:55classy move. But what an outing for the kid.
- 13:59First pitcher. I felt like a shot.
- 14:01I mean if the shoe fits. Treya Savage according to the
- 14:06Blue Jays first pitcher in Major League history with 11 KS
- 14:13allowing zero hits through the 1st 5 innings in the postseason.
- 14:16Second youngest pitcher to ever record 10 plus strikeouts in a
- 14:19postseason start and just add salt to the wound.
- 14:23Longest no hit bid by Blue Jay in the postseason, 11 KS over 5
- 14:31and a third. I mean what a what a gem.
- 14:37What a gem. L's an L what you going to do I
- 14:42mean. Whatever helps you sleep at
- 14:44night back. To the Bronx.
- 14:46Back to the Bronx. Too little, too late.
- 14:53No, I think I saw they did this in 2017.
- 14:56Cleveland, I believe. Came back and won it.
- 14:59So Goonies never say die baby. It's a good movie.
- 15:07I well, let me ask you this, and I was, I meant to, I meant to
- 15:11ask you this right off the top before we started breaking the
- 15:14series down. But the Yankees are down two
- 15:16games to none. The Phillies are down two games
- 15:20to none. They are.
- 15:22And the Cubs, should this hold, will be down two games to none.
- 15:28Which of those three teams do you believe could stage a
- 15:32comeback, if any? I would say it's between the the
- 15:44Yankees and the Phillies, kind of out on the Cubs.
- 15:47Fair. Weirdly enough, I'm kind of out
- 15:51on the Phillies. As much as it means me to say
- 15:53I've, I've not liked what I've seen.
- 15:56The bank was just decimated, which I guess, I guess that's
- 16:01like the aspect to it is that like you can argue, yeah, we're
- 16:04out on the Cubs. This was done in Milwaukee and
- 16:06what the Blue Jays did, that was done in Toronto, right?
- 16:09So, like, going back to LA is like going to be really tough
- 16:13for the Phillies, almost impossible.
- 16:15Series over what? I mean, what are we talking?
- 16:16About going back to the Bronx, I mean, you know, you never know.
- 16:20It's, it's a weird, it's a weird situation up there.
- 16:23Things could change. Well, let's let's transition
- 16:26into that series. Dodgers, Phillies, you mentioned
- 16:30the bank. I saw a clip, I don't know if if
- 16:32it came across your feed, but the, and I, I, I will admit I
- 16:39was out of town. You were out of town as you
- 16:41mentioned, I was out of town this weekend.
- 16:44I did, I did what I could to say tapped in, but it got to a
- 16:48certain point where I wasn't able to catch every pitch.
- 16:51So the clip that I am referring to is, was a clip of when Yohan
- 16:56Duran came in. And you know, that was one of
- 16:58the things we talked about is like, oh, this entrance is going
- 17:01to be electric in October. And it just fell so flat.
- 17:06Like the the clip that I saw was, you know, crowd sourced or,
- 17:11you know, fan sourced, whatever. And they're just like kind of
- 17:16panning around and nothing. And granted, I get it that he
- 17:21came in when they when they were down.
- 17:23Maybe they'd wasted it all in the inner squad, I don't.
- 17:28I don't know man, but it was unnecessary, sorry.
- 17:31Well, I mean, it's a legitimate it's a legitimate observation.
- 17:35But my, my thing with the Phillies having gone down to
- 17:38games, son, which part of my point you already brought up is
- 17:41the fact that they they fell victim to this at home, which is
- 17:46such a dagger to any real chance of them making a series of this
- 17:53thing. I mean, if they do find a way to
- 18:00take both in LA, which at this point I I not confident in, I'm
- 18:08going to give them the benefit of the doubt.
- 18:10And when I say them, I'm talking Phillies fans, the bank in
- 18:13saying that a game five would go bonkers.
- 18:18I just don't think they can get there.
- 18:20They at the very least had to, had to have taken one at home
- 18:24because taken 2 in LA. I, I said it before, I think it
- 18:30was going, it was our last episode going into the
- 18:32postseason. I said I'm getting a whiff of,
- 18:35of the Dodgers getting their mojo back.
- 18:39And I just feel like it that's it's played out one way or
- 18:43another, like they're, they're obviously winning the games that
- 18:46they need to win. And I just feel I, I, I, I feel
- 18:50because they've won what I see they've won nine straight.
- 18:56It's like this is just going to continue to snowball with every
- 19:00win that they rack up. It's, it's, it's going to be
- 19:03that much more difficult for whoever's in their way.
- 19:06And at this point, it's starting to look like it's not going to
- 19:08really matter until maybe they run into Milwaukee, who I think
- 19:11could could definitely give them a run for their money.
- 19:16Yeah, yeah, it. I don't know really what to say
- 19:22about the Phillies, man. They just it's.
- 19:24Sad. Like, this game too did it kind
- 19:28of gave it like a little bit of a run.
- 19:30Let's be honest, that that was a Yippy throw from Tommy Edmund
- 19:33that like took a quirky little little scoop from Freddie to to
- 19:38keep that game in play. But like, yeah, just I think
- 19:45that's the one like Achilles heel that you see with the
- 19:47Dodgers is that like a team can really string together some
- 19:51stuff against their bullpen. And I think that's what makes
- 19:55me, if I'm a Dodgers fan, a little worried about them going
- 19:58all the way. I think that would have done
- 20:04wonders if the Phillies could have come back from that and won
- 20:08that game too. I think that really, really
- 20:10would have done some stuff. Clutch knock from Nikki
- 20:14Castellanos just to for that double to score 2 like.
- 20:18There, there was something brewing for a SEC.
- 20:21It just couldn't get over the hump.
- 20:23I don't know, man. It's.
- 20:25Hard to say. I got to say Roki Sasaki.
- 20:28The good role for him? They may have found something in
- 20:32this. This has been impressive.
- 20:33And look, I don't I don't want us to talk the entire time about
- 20:36the Phillies. Like credit to what the Dodgers
- 20:38have been doing, man clutch ABS good on, you know, good on Tay
- 20:43Oscar for avenging that that Little Miss.
- 20:49Well, I'm not even call it a miss play.
- 20:50It was just flat out laziness. You know, sort of balancing that
- 20:54out a little bit with the what was that three run Homer to to
- 20:58put them up. You know, that's, it's easy to,
- 21:02to, to, you know, lay in the guys for, for things like that.
- 21:07But when they're able to recognize like, shoot, I yeah,
- 21:11I, I really blew it on that one. Let me let me step up, make up
- 21:15for it and maybe even go take it a step further, a little above
- 21:19and beyond. And he did that and ultimately
- 21:21help them pull out the win. So good on him for that.
- 21:24Otani. Otani is Otani.
- 21:29I guess I'm, I mean, I'm not. If the if the his name is not on
- 21:34the jersey, I don't know how impressed I am, you know what I
- 21:36mean on the mound. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:47Is it? He had.
- 21:47One negative, though, we went. Four.
- 21:49Hey, yeah, we're not here to be negative.
- 21:51We had, we had four. Was it 4 strikeouts in Game 2I?
- 21:54Think so, yeah. Yeah, not a good day at the
- 21:57dish, but can't win them all if you're Otani.
- 22:00But you can certainly win most of them.
- 22:03Just wasn't in the cards form Game 2.
- 22:05But it's the whole. Point of their depth.
- 22:08That's the whole point of it key K is is being post season key K.
- 22:13No surprise there. You bring up the point about the
- 22:19bullpen, though, not to be negative, but it is it is, it's
- 22:23it's, you know, worth being concerned over, I would say.
- 22:27And I I don't think that's that's anything we're like we're
- 22:29not saying anything new. No, no, but it's it is
- 22:35interesting to see how it how it has been exposed like in real
- 22:39time. It's not just, you know, is this
- 22:42going to happen? Like, no it it almost did.
- 22:47I did you, I don't know, overly familiar with the with the
- 22:52Phillies roster. Did you not want to see a pinch
- 23:00runner for Castellanos after that double?
- 23:06I know he's not like super slow, but like game tying run.
- 23:11I think I'm going to go ahead. I don't know what their bench
- 23:13was at the moment. I could be overthinking it.
- 23:19Yeah, honestly, I'm not, I'm not sure where their bench was at
- 23:22that that point in time. Just a thought because like.
- 23:25I don't think it was that bad of a bunt, but they ran the wheel
- 23:27play and like, obviously the whole point of that is to get
- 23:30out at 3rd and you know, it's got to be like the absolute most
- 23:35like soft little bunt and Muncie coming in hard gets to flip it
- 23:40around and and throw it to Mookie.
- 23:42And like it wasn't that close. He was he was pretty out.
- 23:46I just I don't know, I would have thought about maybe pinch
- 23:49running there, but like, I don't know what's up with Bader.
- 23:51Bader's hurt. What's wrong with him?
- 23:55They're saying he can hit but he can't run.
- 23:59Oh, I don't know. We saw him pinch hit after that,
- 24:02but they. Yeah, because he had the, he had
- 24:04the the knock there late, right? Yeah.
- 24:07Yeah, but they're saying that he's not he's not running so
- 24:11great. I don't know if I'm.
- 24:12I feel like I because we saw like an insane play wasn't in
- 24:15game one that diving play in right center from him.
- 24:20Yeah. Yeah, like what?
- 24:22I don't know what happened to him.
- 24:24Saturday, yeah. Can't run.
- 24:33I don't. I don't know.
- 24:35But so like that's the thought too.
- 24:37Is that like, you know, do you, I don't know whatever is what it
- 24:41is tall task. I, I think you asked me this
- 24:46question before. I, I guess of the teams, it's
- 24:54really interesting because like you see that like a Milwaukee
- 24:57team, like playing the clubs, the Cubs all year.
- 24:59You're going to be comfortable in Chicago.
- 25:02It's not like they're going to be like in foreign land.
- 25:04And same thing with the Blue Jays.
- 25:05It's not like they're going some hostile environment.
- 25:08They're never in, You know, they go to Yankee Stadium and win.
- 25:11So I don't know, I don't know which way to lean.
- 25:18Yeah, it's all. It's all task for the for the
- 25:21Phills. I see the Dodgers put this thing
- 25:23away in LA whether it's game three or game four.
- 25:27I do not see this going back to Philly.
- 25:29It's just, I mean, yeah, Philly put up a, like we said, a good
- 25:33little run there at the end here in Game 2.
- 25:35But I'm just going to need more from guys like, I mean, yeah,
- 25:41I'm looking at you, Bryce. Like you.
- 25:43I saw a note earlier, Trey Schwarber and Bryce went one for
- 25:4910, combined one for 10 with five KS in Game 2.
- 25:54Like you, I know and I know it's just one game in that instance,
- 25:58but. But at the bank, one of those
- 26:01guys goes yard and it's obviously more so like Schwarber
- 26:05and Harper, but like one of those guys hits a bomb and it's
- 26:08like the roof pops off, dude. That's just like how?
- 26:11It and then it and it becomes a contagious for the rest of those
- 26:14guys. It's just like, you hate to put
- 26:17that kind of pressure on those two, but like, that's what they
- 26:19that's what they are. That's who they are.
- 26:21They need to be able to show up and and it has to happen in that
- 26:24type of way in a tater. I need I need taters.
- 26:32Clip that. Yeah.
- 26:36It just goes back to what I said about just not, I don't, I don't
- 26:41get the sense that we're getting a, a, a motivated Bryce right
- 26:47now at this point. You, you brought up a point, I
- 26:49don't know if it was on here in the group chat where it's about
- 26:53like the curse of like the BI teams, the teams with first seed
- 26:57buys and like first round buys and having time off.
- 27:02And, and we had talked about this with the Phillies for the
- 27:06last month. They haven't played games that
- 27:08really matter, so it's like you're playing games that are
- 27:13The Division's so far out of reach.
- 27:16Then you have your first round buy.
- 27:19And you play yourself. Yeah, dude, it's just like it's,
- 27:23it's probably hard to get it going again.
- 27:28Yeah. So it's.
- 27:30A good point. Credit to you, my friend.
- 27:33Well, I still chose them in this bracket that we.
- 27:35Did. I did too.
- 27:36Throw my money out the window. Speaking of throwing money,
- 27:46gotta say it'd be tough to know where to throw your money in
- 27:49this Tigers Mariner series because this has been, this has
- 27:53been quite the, this has been quite, quite the back and forth.
- 27:57I mean, can we say the most entertaining?
- 28:01I would say that. Well, I mean, if we're just
- 28:04talking straight up fireworks, straight up home field
- 28:07advantage, roof coming off the place, I mean the Toronto
- 28:10Yankees and you know, joking aside, people love watching the
- 28:14Yankees get blown out. So like even myself, I'm like,
- 28:18dude, I wish, I wish this game would go on for like another 15
- 28:21Indians. I love, I love what I'm seeing
- 28:23right now. I get it.
- 28:23So there's an entertainment value there.
- 28:25But if we're just talking like good hard nosed baseball.
- 28:29Quality Bell. This Tigers Mariners series has
- 28:33been worth the price of admission.
- 28:35Game one decided by one advantage Tigers in 11 Game 2
- 28:41also decided by one advantage. Mariners in regulation.
- 28:46But what a finish to both. I mean, there's there's no way
- 28:52to to get around it. Any game that's decided by one
- 28:55run, that's not like a well, the the box score shows differently
- 28:59now like that. These were both very, very close
- 29:03games, very, very fun. Going back to our point earlier,
- 29:08very fundamental games like that.
- 29:10Oh my goodness, the way that the Mariners won Game 2.
- 29:14That's, that's, that's every manager's dream, man.
- 29:18Little little 2 bagger and then another base hit.
- 29:21Bring them in. Like that's just the way it's,
- 29:24it's, it's like you, you draw up scenarios.
- 29:28That's that's how you want it to play out every time.
- 29:32Yeah. None of this like, well, let's
- 29:34hope for a SAC fly and let's maybe hope they put our guy on.
- 29:38No. String some stuff together.
- 29:41String a couple hits together, take the lead, win the game, go
- 29:44home, get ready for the next game.
- 29:46Yeah. I'll tell you who.
- 29:48Seems like he really fixed something.
- 29:51Was Julio. Yeah, he's feeling himself.
- 29:54Julio's got it locked in and I've always had this issue with
- 29:59him like getting like in here when he like he like used to tip
- 30:03in his hand would get so tucked in like behind and everything
- 30:07would have to come out and he was kind of like the ball like
- 30:12fastballs up in a way where a struggle for him because he
- 30:14couldn't get on top. And now he seems like it's like
- 30:17when he loads the hand just kind of has more clearance from his
- 30:21chest and he's controlling his barrel a little bit better and
- 30:24he's able to pull the ball with authority.
- 30:26Like he looks good and he's freaking vibe show.
- 30:31So that's exciting. I'd like to see Gino get going a
- 30:35little bit. I'd like to see him do
- 30:37something, yes. Yikes.
- 30:41Honestly, if you would have told me a Mariner had a two Homer
- 30:45game and and you know, kind of throw throw out the last month
- 30:50or so of the regular, she's not the window.
- 30:52If you're saying hey, we've got a a post season series in
- 30:56Seattle, guy had a two Homer game not named Cal Raleigh, I'd
- 31:01probably go with I. I'm probably thinking Gino, but
- 31:04no. No, no.
- 31:09No, no, no, Jorge Polanco said. Derek Schuble, nice to meet you.
- 31:15What a day. Good swings dude, what a good
- 31:19swings. To be fair, I can one of them, I
- 31:25don't know about the other, but one of them Scooble just laid in
- 31:29a a do nothing slider like just yeah, could not have been more
- 31:35flat and he disposed of it into the left center bleachers.
- 31:39But All in all he was able to get to Scooble, which not many
- 31:45people have done. I think I, I think I heard on
- 31:47the broadcast that only four people all time have have had
- 31:51two Homer games against Scooble or multi Homer games against
- 31:54Scooble. Really.
- 31:56And Jorge Polanco is not one of them.
- 31:59But like I said, quite the quite the series so far, it's been
- 32:09very entertaining. Did I say that when when we made
- 32:12our division picks that I thought I thought I remember
- 32:16saying I was trying to remember that today, that I thought I
- 32:18remember saying that I was looking forward to this series
- 32:23maybe the maybe the most, or did I say the exact opposite?
- 32:27I think it was the least. I think it was the least.
- 32:32Did I really say that? Maybe I maybe it was because I
- 32:34just felt like the the Mariners were going to handle business.
- 32:38Yeah, that's probably what it was the least.
- 32:40Yeah. Back to Detroit, Tide 11.
- 32:51I don't know, I mean it's kind of a flip of the coin like the
- 32:58the Tigers just kind of like find a way to win.
- 33:00Sometimes you just like randomly like it.
- 33:02It seems like the other team just like runs out of outs
- 33:05quick. I don't know how to explain it,
- 33:08but just like, oh, the Tigers are 6 outs away from winning
- 33:11somehow, you know, and it's not always like the cleanest like
- 33:16obvious win. It's sometimes just like a we
- 33:20snuck this out kind of thing. I feel like they sneak wins out.
- 33:24The gritty kitties. I I got to say I loved the quote
- 33:29from AJ Hinch after game one, who I think a reporter was like,
- 33:32so how does it feel to sneak out of win on the road in Seattle?
- 33:36And he's like, well, first of all, we didn't sneak anything
- 33:39out. We earned it.
- 33:40I'm like, relax right on. No, no, no.
- 33:45In the vein of being positive here, that's.
- 33:47Yeah, but like, that's just the phrasing of the question and no
- 33:51need to be a hard O. No, I dig it.
- 33:54I'm all about it. We let them know, put them,
- 33:57correct them, come correct with these questions.
- 34:02Understand that you're not just going to sneak out a post season
- 34:05game like a one run. No, you earned it on the road.
- 34:11That's earning it ball game. Brewers up to nothing?
- 34:17Brewers up to nothing. Perfect Segway.
- 34:20How about that? I mean, we could not have time
- 34:22that anymore. Perfect.
- 34:24Brewers up two games to none. This is not been a pretty series
- 34:28for the Cubs, but credit to the Brewers for the way that they've
- 34:34been able to string runs together.
- 34:39They just, to me, it just feels like a team that like you can
- 34:46punch them in the face as much as you want and they just keep
- 34:50smiling back at you. You know what I mean?
- 34:52Like there's like a confidence level of like, do whatever you
- 34:55want. We're still going to win.
- 34:56Like, I don't care how you do it.
- 34:58We're still going to win. Even this game too.
- 35:00Like say Suzuki coming out, pump pumping him in the face.
- 35:03Dude, here's three nut paws punching them in the face,
- 35:09coming out three. Nothing Like let's go.
- 35:11And like, it seems like, all right, like the Cubs got a
- 35:13little fight in them and it just doesn't matter who they're
- 35:16flying the L Do you see that? I love it, I love it.
- 35:21Love good, good hard fashion. Pause.
- 35:26What is sportsmanship? Oh, the L, the L flag.
- 35:31Gamesmanship. Is that the word I was looking
- 35:33for? What?
- 35:34What do you even pause for? I said love.
- 35:37Oh, you said good, hard. And then, yeah, I was getting
- 35:41somewhere. Michael Scott is just, I was
- 35:43getting to the gamesmanship, the fan fansmanship.
- 35:49That's a word I'm going to that's I'm inventing that word.
- 35:54Yeah, I like it. Yeah, dude.
- 35:57Fansmanship. It's just a a a brew crew that
- 36:01like it's it's weird to see like a team that is the number one
- 36:08seed, but like still an underdog, but just like no one's
- 36:15familiar with us. Like it's it's very odd.
- 36:18Like I don't know how to how to look at them.
- 36:21I. Get what you're saying when you
- 36:23say like they're still kind of an underdog, but like
- 36:25objectively though, are we past the point of being able to call
- 36:29them an underdog? Like they're, they're, they're
- 36:31so good. I think they're like, I'm not
- 36:34going to say underdog, maybe just like misjudged.
- 36:38No, just I'm not personally, like I said, I'm not disagreeing
- 36:42with your take of like, well, like there's still this like
- 36:44underdog. I like I, I, I hear you and I
- 36:47get what you're saying, but I'm saying to like a, a national
- 36:51audience or like people that are tuning in to watch this team,
- 36:54they go, oh, like, what? What's the deal with the
- 36:55Brewers? I just don't think we I don't
- 36:58think that label can be used anymore because and I'm not, I'm
- 37:01really not trying to be, you know, fall victim to the moment.
- 37:04They're they're up two games, nothing.
- 37:05But just objectively this is this has been known for some
- 37:09time. Like they're just a very good
- 37:11team and they're showing it here.
- 37:13I get it. I I think the true test is the,
- 37:16is the NLCS, Like I got no offense against the Cubs, just
- 37:20just like, I don't think that's that impressive.
- 37:22They beat them all year. They know them, you know, I, I
- 37:28would say like whoever they face, whether it's the Phillies
- 37:30sneaking it out or or the Dodgers holding on like that to
- 37:34me is the real like prove yourself.
- 37:37If you're legit, you got to get through one of those big boys.
- 37:42Well, let's say the Dodgers finished, finished things off
- 37:46against the Phillies. It's a Phillies.
- 37:50Let's sit. Or, excuse me, let's say it's
- 37:51Dodgers, Brewers, NLCS. Are we giving the the Brewers
- 37:58the underdog label there? I don't think you can.
- 38:03I don't know, I mean like if you know ball, no, but like if
- 38:06you're just a casual and you're like, all right, I guess I'll
- 38:09watch post season baseball. It's like good luck naming more
- 38:12more than 3 or 4 Brewers. You know what I mean?
- 38:15You can sit there and be a who's who of LA Dodger clubhouse, but
- 38:18like I think that's what makes it that way.
- 38:22And I think that's why it like it is so unique and I that's why
- 38:26I'm enjoying them being so good and like proving everyone wrong.
- 38:31And I hope they continue to prove them wrong.
- 38:33Like I'm low key would love to see them in the World Series and
- 38:38I at. This point, yeah, absolutely.
- 38:41I think it would be excellent. I think it would be excellent
- 38:44because of the style of play, because of the way they play,
- 38:47because it's like, doesn't even matter about the big names,
- 38:51dude. Don't even matter.
- 38:53I'm down at this point. I'm down to get weird.
- 38:55Give me like a give me a Brewers Blue Jays World Series.
- 39:00Like, careful what you wish for. Remember in like 05 it was like
- 39:03the White Sox and the Astros and it was like the least watched
- 39:06World Series in the history of baseball.
- 39:08I mean I guess but well OK no disrespect this isn't me being
- 39:15negative but I think we can all agree and the numbers back to
- 39:20some. This isn't me being negative,
- 39:21this is just fact. The 2023 World Series between
- 39:27the D backs and Rangers could be used as a comp there.
- 39:32Like OK, well we got we got weird in 2023.
- 39:36What Like why? What was what was so wrong about
- 39:39that? There was just I, I more
- 39:43stardom. I can't tell you.
- 39:45No, no, no, I'm I'm saying the opposite.
- 39:48Like I would rather see it's a similar situation, but I would
- 39:52rather see a Brewers, Blue Jays World Series with the ways, with
- 40:01the way that the teams respective teams are currently
- 40:03constructed, with the way that they're both playing and the the
- 40:09home field atmospheres that I feel.
- 40:12That both could provide for that would make for a good World
- 40:15Series, but for some reason the Rangers in D backs just didn't
- 40:21really do it for me. Fair.
- 40:24So I mean, I told you out here, it was like there were people
- 40:28that were just like, oh, D backs in the World Series, like cool.
- 40:31I was like what? The city should be burning down
- 40:34like this is crazy. Like you guys are never here.
- 40:36Like, let's celebrate this. And on the flip side, you got,
- 40:39and I'm not, I'm not knocking the D backs, fans that love
- 40:42their D backs, but in in this hypothetical Jays, Brewers,
- 40:47World Series, you got you're talking about two cities that
- 40:50absolutely love baseball. So I think I think that would
- 40:54just make for a better recipe. Milwaukee is just, we need we.
- 40:59This is what they need. They're just out there working
- 41:03in factories and going to baseball games.
- 41:07That's it, Brewers fans. That's factories, baseball
- 41:11games, just like a lot of lakes a.
- 41:14Lot of cheese. A lot of.
- 41:15Trees, a lot of cheese and just everyone just hustling, just
- 41:22getting their hands dirty. And going to Brewers games,
- 41:25doing. Hard work going to Brewers
- 41:27games. I can't tell you why.
- 41:29That's just the way it is. That's just blue collar Midwest.
- 41:33Yeah, they're they're tailgating outside of Green Bay Packers
- 41:38games, eating casseroles. That's who they are.
- 41:42That's the way they're built. They're having casseroles
- 41:45everywhere, flannels galore. I'll talk to myself into it.
- 41:53Let's go brew Crew. God bless them, God bless them.
- 41:57Let's go brew crew. Let's go brew crew.
- 42:02Yeah, real quick though, on the Cubs, like I said, just have not
- 42:07been able to get much of anything going here.
- 42:11Outscored by what, 6IN game one? What was the night 7/3?
- 42:17Three. Yeah, they didn't do anything
- 42:18after the stay of Suzuki Home run.
- 42:20Right. You know, so we're talking about
- 42:236 run deficit in game 14, run deficit in Game 2.
- 42:29Milwaukee has just pretty much outdone everything.
- 42:34Every element of the game out, hit, out, pitched.
- 42:37Shout out Andrew Vaughn. Hey, credit to you.
- 42:41Let's let's get it going. Let's let's get it going.
- 42:50That's got to be one of my biggest eat crow moments of 2025
- 42:54is Andrew Vaughn. I, I went on this whole rant
- 42:57earlier about like you thought this, you think this is going to
- 43:02be enough to hold it down at first because I think I who was
- 43:06I pushing to go there? Was it Naylor?
- 43:09I feel like it was I was trying to get Naylor up there and then
- 43:13you're trying to you're, you're a, you were being an Andrew
- 43:16Vaughn truther trying to defend his case, defend his honour.
- 43:20And I'm like, this isn't the move.
- 43:21And here he is, just becoming a household name in the
- 43:24postseason. That's my guy, I'll defend.
- 43:27OK, let's slow the roll. I will work harder on defending
- 43:32Andrew Vaughn than his forehead is working harder on that
- 43:34receding hairline. OK, Well that that's definitely
- 43:38taking the negative route in an episode where we're trying not
- 43:41to be negative here. I.
- 43:43Think it's just time. I think it's just time.
- 43:45Bro, you, I think you fit the mold of that meme where it's
- 43:48like if if Andrew Vaughn has one fan, it's me.
- 43:54If Andrew Vaughn has no fans, it's because I'm no longer on
- 43:57this planet or something. That's that's you.
- 43:59Apparently that checks out. Checks out.
- 44:03Big Andrew Vaughn guy. Big Andrew.
- 44:06OK, well, this is this is our division series update episode.
- 44:11So give me give me some thoughts on on the remainder of these
- 44:17series. You we've sort of touched on a
- 44:19couple here, but Yankees, Jays, Jays up two to two games and
- 44:24none. What happens the rest of the
- 44:25series? I just don't think the Yankees
- 44:29bullpens good enough. Fairly don't if if I'm like
- 44:33putting all jokes aside and fandom aside, bullpens is not
- 44:38good enough and starting pitching needs to be great to
- 44:41give the bullpen a chance. But like, that just hasn't
- 44:43seemed to matter with the Blue Jays they're going right after.
- 44:47Do you think clean sweep? No, I think the Yankees get one.
- 44:52So Nate's got Jason 4, Dodgers, Phils.
- 44:57What about you? What are we, what are we looking
- 45:04at for matchups here tomorrow? Rodon and Rodon for the Yankees.
- 45:07Who? Who the Jason out there?
- 45:12Shane Bieber. All right.
- 45:21No, I'm going to go clean sweep. I was tempted to give the
- 45:25Yankees a game, but. Surprised.
- 45:28No, Yeah, give me clean sweep for the Jays.
- 45:30Never would have guessed it. Taking care.
- 45:32No, I, I, if I wouldn't have even considered, I wouldn't have
- 45:40even looked up the matchup. So I was like, let me look up
- 45:42the matchups. Not that that played into my
- 45:44decision, but the fact that I at least gave it the thought.
- 45:47I gave it the consideration. I didn't just jump immediately.
- 45:50Oh, clean sweep. But that's my ultimate verdict.
- 45:54Clean sweep. Phil's Dodgers, Phillies down to
- 45:58games down two games. Dodgers up two games to none, is
- 46:04what I was trying to say. Sweep.
- 46:08Yeah, going back to going back to LA, kind of a like minus the
- 46:13little run they went on there in the ninth, kind of a lifeless
- 46:17Philly team right now. No real clear leader from what
- 46:21I've seen in that in that dugout.
- 46:24You you got to have that. They don't have it right now.
- 46:27Clean sweep Tigers, Mariners. Mariners.
- 46:36In five, it's going back to Seattle.
- 46:38I was going to say I'm going to ride.
