- 0:07Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Barth.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I'm Bizarre, Bizarre and Lazarre.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Hello, everybody nailed it, Joined as always by our bars.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Here is Evan Lazar and Alex bars.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Calebon chase On fifteen million right now per years around
- 0:25Speaker 3: where you know over the Cap has.
- 0:26Speaker 2: A three year forty north of that three year forty.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Five million dollars total contract fifteen million aav.
- 0:33Speaker 1: How much do you value you know it works, familiarity, yep,
- 0:36Speaker 1: you know.
- 0:37Speaker 2: And do they want a guy?
- 0:38Speaker 1: I think we all like he's a one beat and
- 0:41Speaker 1: maybe Mafe becomes the one A or somebody you draft
- 0:44Speaker 1: or Hendrickson. I don't think you get it's not going
- 0:47Speaker 1: to be chase On in one of those guys.
- 0:48Speaker 2: It's tough. Fifteen plus million. Who's Zion Johnson has a third?
- 0:53Speaker 3: What favorite design does Ian rappaport ow to Zion Johnson
- 0:56Speaker 3: has him?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Had four years, fifty one million, twenty seven guarantees.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Banana land, Banana lands for Zion Johnson. Well, some of
- 1:07Speaker 3: those guys signed in the last couple of days.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Alex Years, Zion Johnson.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Banana Land, I repeat banana Land. Uh, the Patriots got
- 1:16Speaker 3: the better player for less money with Elijah.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Very well, there's yeah, they got the better player for
- 1:21Speaker 1: less money's on the field.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Yeah whatever, better player, he's a better player anyways, Hello,
- 1:28Speaker 3: hard Heart open there, Evan. Was our Alex bars Patriots
- 1:31Speaker 3: catch twenty two with you for the next couple of hours.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Talking of course, free agency, we are we are very close,
- 1:39Speaker 3: Alex to this being no longer tampering, legal tampering. We
- 1:43Speaker 3: are now getting into the actual league Year's is.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Okay?
- 1:48Speaker 1: They changed that.
- 1:49Speaker 3: It's four o'clock Eastern time this afternoon where teams can
- 1:53Speaker 3: officially start putting pen to paper. And as somebody that
- 1:57Speaker 3: when we write up our free agent and see breaking
- 2:00Speaker 3: news things and have to put reportedly seventeen hundred times
- 2:03Speaker 3: in the post the Max Crosby trade last night, is
- 2:06Speaker 3: exactly why they wait until four o'clock to start putting
- 2:10Speaker 3: out transactions as a team, because these things can fall through.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Now I'm not saying anything has happened like that on
- 2:16Speaker 3: the Patriots side, but these things can fall through, as
- 2:18Speaker 3: we saw. So four o'clock today is the official start
- 2:24Speaker 3: happy new year of the league year, and that's when
- 2:27Speaker 3: players can start coming in and signing pen to paper
- 2:30Speaker 3: and all that kind of stuff. So we're going to
- 2:32Speaker 3: talk about the reported signings for the Patriots here today.
- 2:35Speaker 3: We're going to talk about what they still have to do,
- 2:38Speaker 3: and there's still a lot of balls up in the
- 2:40Speaker 3: air that they need to navigate through. But I wanted
- 2:45Speaker 3: to use a little bit of an analogy. It evan
- 2:47Speaker 3: to Alex Marine behind the glass today, not Ace Marine
- 2:51Speaker 3: behind the glass. I want to use a little bit
- 2:54Speaker 3: of nowogy. You remember in two thousand and one when
- 2:57Speaker 3: John Madden famously said I would play for overtime here
- 3:00Speaker 3: at Super Bowl thirty six. Right, He's like, they have
- 3:03Speaker 3: no timeouts, there's like a minute twenty left. You know,
- 3:06Speaker 3: first you're starting quarterback, you know, against the greatest show
- 3:09Speaker 3: on Terrif I'd play for overtime. Then Brady like completes
- 3:13Speaker 3: a few checkdowns to j R. Redman, gets them sort
- 3:16Speaker 3: of moving on the drive, and all of a sudden,
- 3:18Speaker 3: John Madden goes, I kind of like what they're doing?
- 3:21Speaker 4: Right?
- 3:21Speaker 3: That was sort of how I felt about free agency
- 3:23Speaker 3: for the Patriots Monday. I think I was like a
- 3:26Speaker 3: lot of you, I felt a little bit I wouldn't
- 3:30Speaker 3: use the word concern, but just it was kind of
- 3:33Speaker 3: a downer that Alec Pearce never actually hit free agency
- 3:36Speaker 3: and they didn't get a real chance to make.
- 3:39Speaker 1: A run second two years in a row with the
- 3:41Speaker 1: rug pull first Ronnie Stanley, now Alex Yeah, you know.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Alec Pierce.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess this, this one I feel like was
- 3:46Speaker 3: a little hurt, a little bit more than the Ronnie
- 3:48Speaker 3: Stanley one, Alex Ling Alex Pierce happens, and you know,
- 3:53Speaker 3: goes back to the Colts and the Patriots first signings
- 3:56Speaker 3: are a full back who I love, by the way,
- 3:59Speaker 3: not merching full backs and uh, you know, Draymond Jones's
- 4:03Speaker 3: solid player, solid.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Non ball noers don't get the full back.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I know, well, we'll get into the full back. It's
- 4:09Speaker 3: probably my favorite signing that they've made so far. All
- 4:13Speaker 3: these things that you know happen, and you do feel
- 4:15Speaker 3: a little bit like, all right, this.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Is this isn't last year.
- 4:19Speaker 3: This isn't splash Milton Williams splash, Carlton Davis splash, Morgan Moses,
- 4:24Speaker 3: Robert Splane. You know, all these different signings that they
- 4:28Speaker 3: made in the very first wave of free agency last year.
- 4:31Speaker 3: We're taking a little bit of a more deliberate, different approach,
- 4:33Speaker 3: which I think makes a lot of sense.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I mean, we knew they weren't going to have another
- 4:37Speaker 1: like top the league spending spring.
- 4:39Speaker 2: And just the season they're coming off of, they had less.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Holes, right, they.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Didn't need to do that.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, you look at the teams that spent
- 4:45Speaker 3: the most and free agency so far, it's the Raiders,
- 4:48Speaker 3: it's the Titans, it's.
- 4:49Speaker 2: The end even more than even they planned on.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's all these teams that were bad last
- 4:55Speaker 3: year that are now trying to spend their way out
- 4:58Speaker 3: of being bad. The two signings that I think all
- 5:02Speaker 3: of us probably feel a little bit better about. Okay,
- 5:05Speaker 3: now we kind of like what the Patriots are doing.
- 5:07Speaker 3: A little bit happened in the last couple of days
- 5:11Speaker 3: here and sort of that second wave of free agency
- 5:14Speaker 3: with Elijah Vera Tucker and Romeo Dobbs, and I think
- 5:17Speaker 3: both these guys makes sense, Like the profiles fit needs
- 5:23Speaker 3: that sort of thing, especially with you know, the news
- 5:26Speaker 3: that they're reportedly again planning on releasing Stefon Diggs. Yep,
- 5:30Speaker 3: so all this starts to make a lot of sense
- 5:33Speaker 3: about what they're doing in terms of those guys. So yeah,
- 5:37Speaker 3: at first I was like a little bit apprehensive about
- 5:39Speaker 3: what was going on. Now I sort of like what
- 5:42Speaker 3: they're doing. I want to start with what they've done
- 5:45Speaker 3: in terms of bringing in people, and then we'll get
- 5:48Speaker 3: to what's left and what needs to be done here
- 5:51Speaker 3: moving forward. But let's just start with the two big
- 5:54Speaker 3: ticket items in the last couple of days.
- 5:56Speaker 2: It's open.
- 5:57Speaker 1: What do you want to start with the one they
- 5:58Speaker 1: did like five seconds ago? Okay, I don't that.
- 6:01Speaker 2: That that We're putting that one on the bottom of
- 6:04Speaker 2: the list.
- 6:05Speaker 3: We're gonna start with with Romeo Dobs, who hand up,
- 6:11Speaker 3: I'll admit. Paul Perrillo was telling me on Patriots Unfiltered
- 6:16Speaker 3: off the air on there, you know, like how about
- 6:17Speaker 3: Romeo Dobs.
- 6:18Speaker 2: He didn't know anything.
- 6:19Speaker 3: He just kind of likes the player, right, and he
- 6:21Speaker 3: was like sort of like, you know, I was kind
- 6:24Speaker 3: of stand offish about it. I was like, it's kind
- 6:26Speaker 3: of like another you know, not to use this part,
- 6:28Speaker 3: but it's kind of like another wide receiver too.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Like I'm just not like really crazy about it. But
- 6:34Speaker 2: in some of this is.
- 6:35Speaker 3: We all do this that we kind of are lukewarm
- 6:38Speaker 3: on a player then he becomes a Patriot, and now
- 6:41Speaker 3: all of a sudden, he's you know, oh, this is
- 6:43Speaker 3: actually a great player. When I watched Romeo Dobs coming
- 6:48Speaker 3: out of college, and I often this these types of things,
- 6:52Speaker 3: you know, a lot of it is kind of my
- 6:53Speaker 3: preconceived notions of a player, right, I did not remember
- 6:57Speaker 3: him as being as polished of a round runner as
- 7:01Speaker 3: he is now, you know, when he first got into
- 7:03Speaker 3: the league, and so he's really developed his game, I
- 7:06Speaker 3: would say in that regard to being a really high
- 7:10Speaker 3: level route runner, especially I would say at the first
- 7:13Speaker 3: and second level of the defense. I don't know if
- 7:15Speaker 3: he's quite got field stretching ability, but he's got really
- 7:19Speaker 3: good top of the route mechanics, ability to separate versus
- 7:23Speaker 3: man coverage. All of his man coverage metrics are really
- 7:26Speaker 3: really good.
- 7:27Speaker 2: His ability to.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Find and sort of navigate soft spots and zone coverages
- 7:32Speaker 3: over the middle of the field and make himself available
- 7:34Speaker 3: and you know, sit versus zone or breakaway from leverage,
- 7:38Speaker 3: and all that good fancy stuff that we talk so
- 7:40Speaker 3: much about, especially in the prism of the Josh McDaniels offense.
- 7:43Speaker 2: So when you start to look at all the things
- 7:45Speaker 2: that he did.
- 7:45Speaker 3: With Green Bay, especially, like I said, the chain moving elements,
- 7:50Speaker 3: and I think that's exactly where he's going. He played
- 7:53Speaker 3: a lot more at the X for the Packers. I
- 7:55Speaker 3: don't think he's going to play the X for the Patriots.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I think he's gonna play the Diggs role. Yeah, for
- 7:59Speaker 3: the Patriots. Uh So, he had forty one first down
- 8:04Speaker 3: receptions last year as seventy five percent first down conversion rates.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Seventy five percent of his catches went for first downs
- 8:10Speaker 3: last year at a higher volume, just talking regular season,
- 8:15Speaker 3: so we compare.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Apples to apples here at a higher volume.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Digs had fifty one first down catches, which led the
- 8:21Speaker 3: Patriots last year. If you start to think about it
- 8:24Speaker 3: on a per target basis, it's not that far off, right,
- 8:28Speaker 3: because Diggs had one hundred and two targets or something
- 8:30Speaker 3: like that and Dobbs is around eighty something, So we're
- 8:33Speaker 3: not talking about a huge difference in terms of their
- 8:37Speaker 3: efficiency of turning catches into first downs. So his ability,
- 8:41Speaker 3: his route running ability, he only had four drops on
- 8:44Speaker 3: those targets last years. He's got good hands, good strong hands.
- 8:47Speaker 3: It's got some size to him at six two two
- 8:49Speaker 3: oh five it's not a jitterbug slot, it's not a
- 8:52Speaker 3: five foot eight Pop Douglas type of slot receiver.
- 8:55Speaker 2: All these different things.
- 8:56Speaker 3: You start to look at the film and start to
- 8:58Speaker 3: envision him in a patrio offense, and I start to
- 9:01Speaker 3: think about, yeah, I can see this.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I can see this player working.
- 9:04Speaker 5: Now.
- 9:04Speaker 2: That's not saying that I think that he is the guy.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I think they still need more, especially, you know, someone
- 9:10Speaker 3: that's more of a pure coverage dictator that's going to draw,
- 9:14Speaker 3: you know, matchups with top corners, that's going to occupy
- 9:17Speaker 3: safeties like that sort of thing.
- 9:19Speaker 2: But if this is your typical Josh.
- 9:22Speaker 3: McDaniels chain mover that digs the Jacobi Meyers a Julian
- 9:26Speaker 3: Edelman role, that this is a solid player for that role.
- 9:29Speaker 2: And I think Romeo Dobbs is maybe a.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Tiny little bit underrated because he doesn't have the name
- 9:34Speaker 3: brand recognition of a four time pro bowler like Stefan Diggs.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I mean you covered a lot of good stuff there,
- 9:40Speaker 1: but I think, just to pick up where you ended that,
- 9:44Speaker 1: we talked about this for Alec Pierson, I don't think
- 9:47Speaker 1: it's the same level as Alec Pearce, but the same
- 9:50Speaker 1: idea applies, you're paying for upside, you're paying for potentially
- 9:54Speaker 1: not paying for production. At a career high seven hundred
- 9:56Speaker 1: and twenty four receiving yards last year, Kurt Heine catches
- 9:59Speaker 1: his fifty nine. He's been right around that fifty mark,
- 10:01Speaker 1: fifty to sixty mark most of his career, you know,
- 10:05Speaker 1: looking at twenty twenty six, him and Diggs, you know,
- 10:08Speaker 1: twenty twenty five Digs versus him in twenty twenty six Dobbs, Yeah,
- 10:11Speaker 1: probably about even in my mind. But the idea is,
- 10:15Speaker 1: you have one guy that's trending upwards, right, and you
- 10:18Speaker 1: have another guy, as much as I like Diggs, that's
- 10:20Speaker 1: going to be thirty three years old, and he's not
- 10:22Speaker 1: a part of the long term plan. So to me,
- 10:24Speaker 1: he is a Digs replacement. I think in Roll, I
- 10:26Speaker 1: think they're hoping he replaces the production. He's not that
- 10:29Speaker 1: you know big outside jump ball fifty to fifty ball
- 10:32Speaker 1: X receiver that we've been talking about them pairing with Drake.
- 10:34Speaker 1: May still want to see them get that guy. The
- 10:37Speaker 1: avenues for that are kind of running out, not that
- 10:39Speaker 1: there were a ton to begin with. Frankly, there's the
- 10:41Speaker 1: aj brown of it all. Which we can get into. Yeah,
- 10:44Speaker 1: but for what you know, I don't think Romeo Dobbs,
- 10:48Speaker 1: I don't know that they're there. To me right now,
- 10:50Speaker 1: it's like they're where they were. I don't think they're
- 10:52Speaker 1: worse at wide receiver. I don't think they're better. You you know,
- 10:54Speaker 1: you hope there's some internal growth from some of those
- 10:56Speaker 1: young guys, especially Kyle Williams, and we'll see what happens there.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But they've replaced Diggs box checked, and that's good. And
- 11:05Speaker 1: now it's on to the next move.
- 11:06Speaker 3: The last thing I'll say on Dobbs that I think
- 11:08Speaker 3: is sneaky important here with him. You mentioned his age.
- 11:12Speaker 3: He's twenty five now, he'll be twenty seats entering his
- 11:14Speaker 3: age twenty six season next month. He obviously has a
- 11:18Speaker 3: lot more runway, as you were kind of saying what
- 11:21Speaker 3: Drake may here than Stefan Diggs would have. But also
- 11:24Speaker 3: more importantly, maybe they really don't have a lot of
- 11:27Speaker 3: receivers under contract past twenty twenty six.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really only the.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Twenty twenty five rookies Kyle Williams and e Ft and Chisholm.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Now I assume there's going to be at least one
- 11:37Speaker 3: more added to that, whether it's be a trader or
- 11:40Speaker 3: the draft. But Kishan Boudi, a twenty twenty three draft pick,
- 11:45Speaker 3: is a free agent. To Mario Douglas, a twenty twenty
- 11:47Speaker 3: three draft pick, will be a free agent. Mac Collins
- 11:50Speaker 3: will be a free agent after next year. So when
- 11:53Speaker 3: you just start to look at even twenty twenty seven
- 11:56Speaker 3: and beyond, like they just didn't have a lot of
- 11:59Speaker 3: long term contracts committed at the wide receiver position, and
- 12:02Speaker 3: you could put yourself in a position where you get
- 12:05Speaker 3: the next offseason and the only guy that you have
- 12:07Speaker 3: under contract at wide receiver is Kyle Williams or maybe
- 12:11Speaker 3: Efton Chisholm if he's able to stick on the roster.
- 12:13Speaker 3: So I think in a lot of ways too, they
- 12:15Speaker 3: just needed to get somebody in here that had term
- 12:18Speaker 3: on his contract, that you know, had had some longevity
- 12:22Speaker 3: on the contract.
- 12:23Speaker 2: So no, he's kind of like the signing. I think
- 12:25Speaker 2: he's a.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Better player than I gave him credit for. And I'm
- 12:27Speaker 3: not just saying that because he's a Patriot.
- 12:29Speaker 6: Now.
- 12:29Speaker 1: The other big thing about him, and this is going
- 12:31Speaker 1: to sound kind of weird, but I think in all
- 12:33Speaker 1: pro sports this is something you look at in Freedomcy,
- 12:36Speaker 1: especially with some of these young guys.
- 12:38Speaker 2: He plays, Yeah, he plays.
- 12:40Speaker 1: He played thirteen games his rookie year seventeen thirteen sixteen,
- 12:43Speaker 1: so he and he's a tough guy. He's tough player,
- 12:45Speaker 1: stays on the field, good size, six to two to
- 12:47Speaker 1: two o four. So you have somebody in the slot
- 12:49Speaker 1: that has that bigger frame than maybe Drake May likes
- 12:51Speaker 1: to throw to. But he gets on the field too,
- 12:54Speaker 1: which I think is important.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Yep. Absolutely.
- 12:56Speaker 3: The other, uh, you know, big signing here in the
- 12:58Speaker 3: last couple of days is Elijah Verit Tucker and you
- 13:01Speaker 3: have continuously reminded me that you know this. We have
- 13:04Speaker 3: to talk about the injury history with the player, and
- 13:06Speaker 3: that's totally fair. He's basically played half of his possible
- 13:09Speaker 3: games since he entered the NFL. I think it's what
- 13:12Speaker 3: like forty two of eighty five or something like that.
- 13:15Speaker 3: It's literally almost half of the games that he's actually
- 13:18Speaker 3: been available for.
- 13:19Speaker 2: He has torn his.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Triceps in each arm, and he's also torn his achilles
- 13:25Speaker 3: over the course of his career. So we're talking about
- 13:26Speaker 3: a guy that has a major injury history. Now, with
- 13:30Speaker 3: that being said, one of the things that I have
- 13:32Speaker 3: been hearing going around on your station and stuff like
- 13:35Speaker 3: that is this huge concern about the offensive line and
- 13:38Speaker 3: that the offensive line is still in flux, you know,
- 13:42Speaker 3: still a weak point of this roster. I actually don't
- 13:46Speaker 3: really I feel the total opposite. I kind of feel
- 13:49Speaker 3: like this is the best the offensive line has looked
- 13:50Speaker 3: on paper. And we have to preface that with two things.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Elijah averat Tucker's injury history, he's got to be healthy
- 13:58Speaker 3: and available, and internal development from Will Campbell and Jared Wilson,
- 14:03Speaker 3: like those two guys have to get better. But if
- 14:05Speaker 3: those two things happen, and I get that that's a
- 14:08Speaker 3: bunch of ifs and butts, But if those two things happen,
- 14:12Speaker 3: this is the best their offensive line has looked on
- 14:14Speaker 3: paper in quite some time. I would say, probably since
- 14:17Speaker 3: like Bill Belichick started to blow up the interior offensive
- 14:21Speaker 3: line and messed the whole thing up, like twenty twenty
- 14:22Speaker 3: twenty twenty one, right where they had they had Shack
- 14:25Speaker 3: Mason was the first to go, wasn't he. Joe Toney
- 14:28Speaker 3: was the first go They franchised tagged Joe Tuny for
- 14:32Speaker 3: so but they when they had Toney Andrews Mason. They
- 14:34Speaker 3: were they were they were cooking right, they were rolling
- 14:37Speaker 3: throughout that whole time.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's just elite. Yes, yeah, and they're not
- 14:41Speaker 2: there yet.
- 14:42Speaker 3: But in theory, and again I get it, we're we're
- 14:47Speaker 3: dealing with the player that has had major injuries throughout
- 14:50Speaker 3: his career. But in theory, you're kind of upgrading two
- 14:53Speaker 3: spots with this move because I think Jared Wilson is
- 14:56Speaker 3: going to be a really good center and I think
- 14:58Speaker 3: a lot of his issues that we saw go with
- 15:00Speaker 3: play strength and anchor and all that kind of stuff
- 15:03Speaker 3: will be mitigated a little bit at center, not to
- 15:05Speaker 3: mention that he should physically develop over the course of
- 15:08Speaker 3: his career as a young guy. You know, we talk
- 15:10Speaker 3: about Campbell being super young. Jared Wilson is also super young,
- 15:13Speaker 3: so that should happen as well, just you know, from
- 15:16Speaker 3: an internal growth standpoint. But in theory, I think you've
- 15:20Speaker 3: probably made Center at least have a higher ceiling of
- 15:24Speaker 3: being better. And if he's available, I think Vera Tucker
- 15:27Speaker 3: definitely improves left guard like that. I think is is
- 15:30Speaker 3: a foregone conclusion that he is going to be a
- 15:32Speaker 3: better play, a better left guard than what Jared Wilson
- 15:35Speaker 3: gave you last year.
- 15:37Speaker 2: So is this.
- 15:39Speaker 3: I guess concern from the offensive line standpoint that I
- 15:44Speaker 3: keep hearing about. Is this only because everybody is so
- 15:49Speaker 3: weary about Will Campbell?
- 15:50Speaker 2: Like that, is that all it stems from.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I mean it maybe just conditioned to complain about the
- 15:56Speaker 1: offensive line. Look, I think on paper, they're starting five
- 16:01Speaker 1: is better now than it was before. You know, Will
- 16:04Speaker 1: Campbell's gonna get healthy. You plug Vera Tucker in move
- 16:08Speaker 1: Jared Wilson's natural position. Like, on paper, that's better, that's
- 16:10Speaker 1: an upgrade. There are still fair questions. Is Vera Tucker
- 16:15Speaker 1: gonna stay healthy?
- 16:15Speaker 2: Is a big one.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I like Ben Brown, but Verit Tech Tucker's a step.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Up, and it changes the Ben Brown's a spot starter,
- 16:22Speaker 2: full time start.
- 16:23Speaker 1: We're not talking about a guy that you know, plays
- 16:26Speaker 1: ten to twelve games a year and kind of misses
- 16:28Speaker 1: games sporadically. We're talking about a guy that in five
- 16:30Speaker 1: NFL seasons has had three season ending injuries. Yep, so
- 16:34Speaker 1: that's a factor. But if he's in there, like it's
- 16:37Speaker 1: an upgrade. The fair questions to me are him staying
- 16:40Speaker 1: healthy in the plan be there and then the longer,
- 16:45Speaker 1: the backup tackles. They don't have any backup tackles. Well,
- 16:48Speaker 1: they have Marcus Prian, I guess on the right side.
- 16:49Speaker 1: They don't have a backup left tackle right now, which
- 16:51Speaker 1: is relevant, and I believe in Will Campbell. This is
- 16:53Speaker 1: not I think Will Campbell is going to fail. It's
- 16:55Speaker 1: that I don't actually have the number for last year,
- 16:57Speaker 1: but two years ago only seventeen tackles both sides combine
- 17:01Speaker 1: for a team played all seventeen games. Like, you're gonna
- 17:05Speaker 1: need your backup tackles at some point. Odds are in
- 17:08Speaker 1: the NFL, it's just the way it works. So they
- 17:10Speaker 1: need a backup left tackle. And then the long term,
- 17:12Speaker 1: Like I don't know that I feel any better about
- 17:15Speaker 1: them in the long term talking about like the three
- 17:16Speaker 1: to five year outlook beyond just Vera Tucker being up
- 17:19Speaker 1: grade at left guard, they still have long term questions
- 17:21Speaker 1: and frankly where Mike when win, who's contract is at
- 17:23Speaker 1: Like there's a question there too about who's the next
- 17:26Speaker 1: guy up there, because they don't have a ton of
- 17:28Speaker 1: guard depth behind Ben Brown. So there's still long term
- 17:32Speaker 1: questions and there's the question of the injury at left
- 17:35Speaker 1: guard and some depth questions. But if you're just telling
- 17:37Speaker 1: me the depth chart on paper, they're better. Yeah, they're
- 17:40Speaker 1: better than they were last year.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Campbell from left to right.
- 17:43Speaker 3: If they're starting offensive line in week one and it's
- 17:46Speaker 3: not you know, it's about I get it. It's a
- 17:48Speaker 3: seventeen plus game season, right, but their starting offensive line
- 17:52Speaker 3: in week one is Campbell vera Tucker Wilson on when
- 17:55Speaker 3: Moses upgrade, it's pretty darn good, honestly, like they were
- 17:59Speaker 3: league averaged in the regular season last year by most
- 18:02Speaker 3: of the metrics and by the eye test. I think
- 18:04Speaker 3: the other thing that I would say about the offensive
- 18:07Speaker 3: line is, like these questions that we have across the
- 18:09Speaker 3: offensive line, thirty two teams have the same questions. It's
- 18:12Speaker 3: a bad position group across the league. Nobody has three
- 18:15Speaker 3: starting caliber tackles in the NFL. Some teams don't even
- 18:18Speaker 3: have two starting caliber tackle. Some teams might argue they
- 18:21Speaker 3: don't have one starting caliber tackle. So the Patriots have
- 18:25Speaker 3: Campbell and they have Moses, who they feel pretty good
- 18:26Speaker 3: about the fact that we are talking about, well, who's
- 18:29Speaker 3: going to be like the swing tackle or the third
- 18:31Speaker 3: tackle or the backup left tackle or whatever you want
- 18:33Speaker 3: to play it like that's that's kind of a little
- 18:36Speaker 3: bit of a first world.
- 18:37Speaker 1: But I mean, we were talking about last year four
- 18:39Speaker 1: new starters. Now we're talking about the backups.
- 18:42Speaker 6: Right.
- 18:42Speaker 1: That's growth, and this is what this offseason going to
- 18:45Speaker 1: be was building depth. We'll see what they do in
- 18:47Speaker 1: free agency. You know, Vederian Low got less money.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Than I thought.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I'm almost surprised that, you know, they can keep in,
- 18:51Speaker 1: but they'll you know, we'll see if they find somebody
- 18:53Speaker 1: here or in the draft. You know, maybe you get
- 18:55Speaker 1: a guy you're going to develop on the right side
- 18:57Speaker 1: but has some swing potential that can at least hold
- 18:59Speaker 1: that role on this year. The other thing about the
- 19:01Speaker 1: line too, just to add it, I feel like there's
- 19:03Speaker 1: this this narrow focus of the line. When we talk
- 19:06Speaker 1: about the line, talked about just through pass protection, which
- 19:11Speaker 1: I get why there's such a focus on that. I
- 19:13Speaker 1: don't know how much more you have on Vera Tucker,
- 19:15Speaker 1: but I think this is where we can kind of
- 19:17Speaker 1: transition to Regie Gillium. Yeah, like that's going to be
- 19:20Speaker 1: a big boost in terms of blocking, in terms of
- 19:23Speaker 1: the run game. You know, he's going to take some
- 19:25Speaker 1: of the pressure off of the offensive line as well.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Yeah, just really quickly on Vera Tucker and then I
- 19:29Speaker 3: wanted to go to Gilliam next too. Just a quick
- 19:32Speaker 3: kind of like synopsis of who he is as a player,
- 19:36Speaker 3: I would say with Vera Tucker, and I'm not saying
- 19:38Speaker 3: that he doesn't have any place strained to him or
- 19:40Speaker 3: any like snarl to him at all.
- 19:42Speaker 2: But his calling card is his athleticism.
- 19:45Speaker 3: He's a highly athletic interior blocker, was very very athletic
- 19:49Speaker 3: coming out of USC in college, you know, one of
- 19:52Speaker 3: these big like relative athletics score testers.
- 19:55Speaker 2: And things like that. At the combine, his movement skills
- 19:59Speaker 2: and is a bit to.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Pass protect one on one are very good, like high
- 20:03Speaker 3: level good. You know, he was featured a lot and
- 20:06Speaker 3: with the jetson zone blocking schemes. I'm not gonna look
- 20:08Speaker 3: too much into that and say because they signed Vera Tucker,
- 20:11Speaker 3: now they're gonna be all outside zone like, I'm not
- 20:13Speaker 3: saying that necessarily, but you look at his ability to
- 20:16Speaker 3: get out of his stance. You look at his lateral
- 20:18Speaker 3: moment mobility to you know, move and reach blocks across
- 20:22Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage, his ability to combo block, you know,
- 20:25Speaker 3: kind of chip and then go up to the second
- 20:27Speaker 3: level and connect with moving targets on the second level.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Very balanced player, squares up blocks. You don't really see
- 20:35Speaker 3: him like out of control or over his skis too
- 20:37Speaker 3: often when you watch him now, granted I had to
- 20:40Speaker 3: go back to twenty twenty four like to watch him,
- 20:42Speaker 3: but you don't see him too often falling off blocks,
- 20:46Speaker 3: over his skis, out of control. He's very methodical, he's
- 20:50Speaker 3: very athletic. He's very just physically gifted, to be honest,
- 20:55Speaker 3: for an offensive lineman and a guy that size. Now,
- 20:59Speaker 3: he played a little bit of everywhere with the Jets.
- 21:01Speaker 3: He played a little bit of everywhere with the Trojans.
- 21:04Speaker 2: At USC.
- 21:06Speaker 3: He can in a pinch play tackle And I bring
- 21:09Speaker 3: that up only because we know that.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Not last year.
- 21:13Speaker 3: But Morgan Moses is the type of guy that might
- 21:14Speaker 3: miss a game or two yea at his age. If
- 21:18Speaker 3: you told me that for one or two games as
- 21:22Speaker 3: a spot starter they were going to move Veritucker out
- 21:26Speaker 3: to right tackle and put Ben Brown in at left
- 21:29Speaker 3: guard to whether a you know, dinged up Morgan Moses,
- 21:35Speaker 3: I would say, doable, Like not the.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Worst thing in the world.
- 21:39Speaker 3: He's certainly more acquitted, you know, measurables wise and all that,
- 21:44Speaker 3: to play guard like he should play guard. He did
- 21:47Speaker 3: play guard right guard his last year with the Jets,
- 21:50Speaker 3: but he played left guard as a rookie. He played
- 21:52Speaker 3: the left side at USC. I don't think that that's
- 21:55Speaker 3: going to be too big of a deal. But it's
- 21:58Speaker 3: kind of like how we've talked a little bit about
- 22:00Speaker 3: on WHENU. In the past, they've moved him all around
- 22:03Speaker 3: with the Jets, and I don't think that that's really
- 22:05Speaker 3: been helpful for him.
- 22:07Speaker 1: No, you gotta let these guys sit in a position.
- 22:09Speaker 1: And I'm not trying to point fingers, but.
- 22:14Speaker 3: When you move guys around like that and then all
- 22:16Speaker 3: of a sudden they start popping up with a bunch
- 22:17Speaker 3: of different injuries, it does bring up the fact that
- 22:20Speaker 3: you're messing with everything right like you are. Now his
- 22:24Speaker 3: plant leg is different than his you know, his off
- 22:27Speaker 3: hands different from his main. It's like, we're messing it
- 22:29Speaker 3: all up. So when I hear that a guy that
- 22:31Speaker 3: keeps moving around the line as it gets a torn
- 22:34Speaker 3: achilles injury, I'm like, well, did you switch sides? And
- 22:40Speaker 3: then now you're pushing off the different foot, and so
- 22:42Speaker 3: you pushed off that foot and then all of a sudden,
- 22:45Speaker 3: that foot's not used to being the foot that you're
- 22:47Speaker 3: pushing off of, and then boom, there goes the achilles.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Right Like, those things happen a lot. It happened with
- 22:52Speaker 3: Isaiah Winn here. Remember he played right tackle in the
- 22:55Speaker 3: preseason and blew out his achilles switching side. So I
- 22:59Speaker 3: think if you can get him into a spot where
- 23:02Speaker 3: you're in the Patriots strength and conditioning program, and they
- 23:04Speaker 3: do an excellent job down there, you know, Frank Pirno,
- 23:07Speaker 3: Doc Whalen, they're some of the best in the business
- 23:10Speaker 3: at it, whether it's managing injuries, sports science, all that
- 23:14Speaker 3: kind of stuff. And you say to him tomorrow when
- 23:18Speaker 3: he comes in to sign the contract, you're playing left guard.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Get ready to play left guard. And that's where we're
- 23:24Speaker 2: putting you. And that's it.
- 23:25Speaker 3: That's where I stick right then, I think that that
- 23:27Speaker 3: can go a long way as well, because he's tried
- 23:29Speaker 3: to just put out fires with the Jets.
- 23:31Speaker 2: They've moved him all around.
- 23:32Speaker 1: No, there is there is the you know, if you
- 23:34Speaker 1: want the optimistic side of the injury thing. They have
- 23:37Speaker 1: a good history of this of their medical staff figuring
- 23:40Speaker 1: things out. Remember when they signed Hunter Henry. Yeah, and
- 23:42Speaker 1: he's kind of the you know, poster for this. He
- 23:46Speaker 1: had a lot of injury troubles with the Chargers. Now,
- 23:48Speaker 1: the Chargers medical staff has its history, yep. And he
- 23:51Speaker 1: came here and when he played that first full season.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I remember the press conference he did where he was
- 23:55Speaker 1: just like effusively praising the medical staff, the training staff,
- 23:58Speaker 1: the strength and conditioning staff for changing the way he
- 24:02Speaker 1: you know, kind of operated. I remember he talked about
- 24:04Speaker 1: his workout plain he might have mentioned his diet, like
- 24:06Speaker 1: a lot of stuff just kind of changed the way
- 24:08Speaker 1: he went about building up his body and maintaining his
- 24:10Speaker 1: body that he felt like allowed him to kind of
- 24:12Speaker 1: dodge some of those injuries. Now, let's not to say
- 24:14Speaker 1: they can do that for everybody. That's not to guarantee
- 24:16Speaker 1: that that Vera Tucker is gonna come here and play
- 24:18Speaker 1: seventeen games. But they have proven to do this. And
- 24:21Speaker 1: you look at the job they did last year and
- 24:22Speaker 1: how little the Patriots deal with injuries last year, Like, you.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Know, they've they've earned, they've earned, uh.
- 24:28Speaker 1: They've earned us basically saying like maybe maybe they can
- 24:31Speaker 1: figure it out and fix it. There's always some luck
- 24:33Speaker 1: that comes with injuries. It's just football, it's just sports.
- 24:35Speaker 1: But they've done a good job of managing these things
- 24:38Speaker 1: the last few years.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Okay, up next, Regie Gilliam, who you mentioned just now.
- 24:43Speaker 3: I love This is probably my favorite signing. And I
- 24:45Speaker 3: know that sounds crazy when they signed a starting guard
- 24:48Speaker 3: and a starting wide receiver and I'm telling you, the
- 24:49Speaker 3: full back is my favorite signing.
- 24:51Speaker 6: Up.
- 24:51Speaker 3: What are we doing this? This is a full back show.
- 24:53Speaker 3: This is a pro full back show. And I think
- 24:56Speaker 3: the whole thing about the full back to me. And
- 25:00Speaker 3: he's a really good one too, so that helps you know.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Like he's he's a you know, a high level full back,
- 25:05Speaker 3: maybe a little bit different than James Devlin. Not quite
- 25:08Speaker 3: like the sledgehammer that James Devlon is, but much more
- 25:12Speaker 3: athletic and has like a lot of more ability to
- 25:15Speaker 3: get out in space and.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Run and he's that kind of stuff.
- 25:18Speaker 1: The big difference to me watching him, Like, so James
- 25:20Speaker 1: eviln was what six three right, yeah, So Reggie gill
- 25:23Speaker 1: Gilliam's six foot two forty Yeah, Like he's a low
- 25:26Speaker 1: center of gravity, low.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Center of gravity, and he's very he he's so He's
- 25:31Speaker 3: quick and he's explosive for a fullback, so when he
- 25:34Speaker 3: gets moving, he can generate a lot of momentum and
- 25:38Speaker 3: power simply, you know, by just converting the speed to power,
- 25:42Speaker 3: you know, like we talk a lot about with like
- 25:44Speaker 3: pass rushers and stuff like that, almost where he can
- 25:46Speaker 3: just create a car crash. The Bills used him in
- 25:48Speaker 3: all sorts of different ways in their zone, you know,
- 25:50Speaker 3: base run scheme, where either they're leading on outside zone
- 25:54Speaker 3: or they'd like wrap him up to the second level
- 25:55Speaker 3: on some of their wind back plays and things like that.
- 25:58Speaker 3: But the biggest thing I would say with the full
- 26:00Speaker 3: back to me is actually more about like the concept
- 26:03Speaker 3: of a full back than it is the full back itself,
- 26:06Speaker 3: and you just sort of have to have a fullback
- 26:07Speaker 3: that's good that allows you to get the defense kind
- 26:12Speaker 3: of react to the fact that you're in a full
- 26:14Speaker 3: back formation. So the big stat that stands out to
- 26:16Speaker 3: me with Regie gilliam is not actually the success that
- 26:19Speaker 3: the Bills had with him rushing. They did lead the
- 26:22Speaker 3: league in rushing and James Cook was the rushing king
- 26:25Speaker 3: last year with him playing like twenty one percent of
- 26:28Speaker 3: the snaps. But the bigger thing to me was Regie Gilliam.
- 26:31Speaker 3: They averaged almost nine yards per passe attempt when he
- 26:34Speaker 3: was on the field because the Bills would put Josh
- 26:37Speaker 3: Allen under center. They put Gilliam in the eye with
- 26:40Speaker 3: James Cook behind him, and they would run play action
- 26:43Speaker 3: and you're showing the defense run formation. You're showing them
- 26:46Speaker 3: run action where Gilliam's leading and James Cook's following, and
- 26:51Speaker 3: then now's carrying out the fake and it all looks
- 26:54Speaker 3: exactly the same as the run play that you just defended,
- 26:57Speaker 3: you know, two plays ago, and now all of a sudden,
- 26:59Speaker 3: it's the run play, it's a play action pass. So
- 27:02Speaker 3: the full back's ability to kind of sell the run
- 27:05Speaker 3: and what that formation gives to you, especially when you
- 27:07Speaker 3: have a good full back and a better running game,
- 27:10Speaker 3: I think that all of that stuff marries together very nicely.
- 27:14Speaker 3: And this is no disrespect to Jack Westover, but teams
- 27:17Speaker 3: just did not fear Jack Westover in that kind of way. Yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 3: So with the Bills, you know, you see a lot
- 27:22Speaker 3: of things with Buffalo last year where they would load
- 27:25Speaker 3: up on heavy people. They'd be in like twenty two personnel,
- 27:28Speaker 3: two tight ends, two backs, and really get heavy and
- 27:31Speaker 3: then they would run play action off of it, they'd
- 27:33Speaker 3: run spread formations off of it, where Gilliam would be
- 27:36Speaker 3: flexed out wide, and then you're creating matchups inside the
- 27:39Speaker 3: formation for guys like Shakir and the tight ends. Like,
- 27:42Speaker 3: there's just a lot of different formation things, a lot
- 27:44Speaker 3: of different you know, run game, pass game, you know,
- 27:47Speaker 3: play action sequencing that you can do when you have
- 27:50Speaker 3: a really good full back. There's blocking advantages to having
- 27:53Speaker 3: a really good full back because unlike an on the
- 27:55Speaker 3: line player, like a tight end, a full back being
- 27:58Speaker 3: in the backfield, he has he can go both ways.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Yeah, so you can.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Kind of build services to the left or to the
- 28:03Speaker 3: right with the fullback. So it allows you to have
- 28:05Speaker 3: that kind of flexibility that that's all a long way
- 28:09Speaker 3: of saying, there's a lot of really good offense that
- 28:12Speaker 3: comes from just the concept of the fullback along with
- 28:16Speaker 3: having you know, what he can actually do as a blocker.
- 28:18Speaker 3: So when you have a fullback that's an impact blocker
- 28:21Speaker 3: like Reggie Gilliam, it just allows you to do a
- 28:23Speaker 3: lot of different things.
- 28:24Speaker 2: You know, we can get into sort of the Patriots.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Full back usage last year, how it wasn't so hot
- 28:30Speaker 3: plus it was a little bit less than what Josh
- 28:31Speaker 3: McDaniels has done in his history typically. I think we're
- 28:34Speaker 3: going to see that go right back up to almost
- 28:36Speaker 3: thirty percent near the top of the league now that
- 28:39Speaker 3: they have Gilliam. But this is an exciting signing and
- 28:41Speaker 3: I have there's special teams angles to it as well.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean plays on the special teams too, so
- 28:45Speaker 1: he'll help there. Now you covered a lot of it,
- 28:48Speaker 1: just again having a guy that can do it, and
- 28:51Speaker 1: teams have to respect. I just Jack Westover never really proved,
- 28:55Speaker 1: you know, he could be consistent in that role. Now
- 28:57Speaker 1: you have a guy that's done it for what five
- 28:58Speaker 1: years right in the NFL YEP. And it's it's an
- 29:02Speaker 1: investment to everybody yelled about it, you know, the team
- 29:05Speaker 1: ignoring Drake May. Is it the investment that a number
- 29:08Speaker 1: one wide receiver would be. No, But it's an investment,
- 29:11Speaker 1: or reminder Stevenson, it's an investment, Trevan Henderson. They're going
- 29:14Speaker 1: to have more of an ability to run the ball
- 29:15Speaker 1: between the tackles especially, They're gonna be able to develop
- 29:18Speaker 1: play action off of that. They're not gonna have to
- 29:20Speaker 1: be as predictable or as you know, one dimensional, I
- 29:23Speaker 1: should say, is a better term against some of these
- 29:25Speaker 1: better fronts that they're going to face.
- 29:26Speaker 2: It's going to open things up in the pass game.
- 29:28Speaker 1: So and that doesn't mean he's going to do that personally,
- 29:31Speaker 1: but it's just they They didn't have this dynamic last
- 29:33Speaker 1: year and for Josh McDaniels to really do what he
- 29:35Speaker 1: wants to do offensively the whole picture. You mentioned the
- 29:38Speaker 1: rate being lower. Yes, I don't think that was McDaniels
- 29:41Speaker 1: wanting to use the fullback less. I think it's you know,
- 29:43Speaker 1: you're not going to run something as much if you
- 29:44Speaker 1: don't feel like you can execute it.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Yeah, So I think they're going to go back to that.
- 29:48Speaker 1: It's going to allow them to be more multiple offensively,
- 29:51Speaker 1: which is something we talked about last year that they
- 29:53Speaker 1: needed to do. It's good signing.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I understand that people roll their eyes about in
- 29:58Speaker 3: the waxing poetic about full back.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I'll admit it's sort of just my thing.
- 30:03Speaker 3: I would also say, just looking across the league and
- 30:07Speaker 3: not to do open this whole can of worms with you,
- 30:09Speaker 3: but my guys, my my tight pantskys all use fullbacks.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Kyle Shanahan uses a full back.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Mike McDaniel took alec Ingold with him from Miami to
- 30:19Speaker 3: the Chargers and told John Harbaugh or Jim with Jim Harbaugh, sorry,
- 30:23Speaker 3: I forget the Harbor gets get them confused. I told
- 30:26Speaker 3: Jim Harribor, Hey, I need my full back like I
- 30:28Speaker 3: need gold, Like we gotta go get this guy, you know.
- 30:31Speaker 3: Like they they really are very creative with how they
- 30:35Speaker 3: use these guys these days. This is not three yards
- 30:39Speaker 3: in a cloud of dust we have a full back anymore.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Like this is a much more creative gene that they
- 30:44Speaker 3: can kind of use, or schematic thing that they can
- 30:46Speaker 3: kind of use to their advantage.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Just quick on the percentages.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Josh McDaniel's last year with the Patriots was about a
- 30:54Speaker 3: twenty two percent full back usage rate in terms of
- 30:57Speaker 3: just two back formation in Vegas in twenty one and
- 31:02Speaker 3: or twenty two and the Patriots in twenty one his
- 31:04Speaker 3: last his other two last full seasons as a play
- 31:07Speaker 3: caller there he was up over twenty eight percent. So
- 31:11Speaker 3: there's a six percent decrease and how much they used
- 31:13Speaker 3: the full back. My guess is that we're going to
- 31:16Speaker 3: see that go right back up. A big reason why
- 31:18Speaker 3: they were so unproductive. You know, out of those full
- 31:22Speaker 3: back they weren't unproductive. They passed the ball, okay, but
- 31:24Speaker 3: they broke even with the full back on the field.
- 31:26Speaker 3: They were literally zero point zero zero EPA per play
- 31:30Speaker 3: right right, even like no no advantage, no disadvantage.
- 31:34Speaker 2: It was just in the middle.
- 31:36Speaker 4: Uh.
- 31:37Speaker 2: And that's a package.
- 31:37Speaker 1: If you're going to use it, you expect it to
- 31:39Speaker 1: be an advantage.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:40Speaker 3: The big reason why you know they were there is
- 31:42Speaker 3: because they couldn't run the ball out of it. And
- 31:45Speaker 3: I hear a lot about how the Patriots run game
- 31:48Speaker 3: struggled at times.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Last year.
- 31:50Speaker 3: They were twenty five fifth in the league in rush EPA.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Last year they were not a physical enough offense. Mike
- 31:56Speaker 3: Rabels talked about being more physical on offense. He talked
- 32:00Speaker 3: to us about it at the combine and said, they
- 32:02Speaker 3: we need to be more physical.
- 32:04Speaker 2: We need to get stronger, we need to lift, we need.
- 32:06Speaker 3: To uh be able to you know, control the line
- 32:08Speaker 3: of scrimmage better and run the football. Uh that we
- 32:13Speaker 3: can say all those things and act at the part.
- 32:16Speaker 3: And then they go and they sign a full back
- 32:18Speaker 3: and everybody was like, why are we wasting so much
- 32:21Speaker 3: time on a full back, right, It's like, well, you
- 32:23Speaker 3: if you want to get more physical and run the
- 32:25Speaker 3: ball better, then you need to get people that are
- 32:26Speaker 3: more physical and can help you run the ball better.
- 32:29Speaker 2: And that's what these guys can do. You know.
- 32:30Speaker 3: I'd say both of them, Barah Tucker and Reggie Gilliam
- 32:33Speaker 3: I think both check boxes in that regard. So hopefully
- 32:37Speaker 3: that does improve their rush offense. Hopefully they become a
- 32:39Speaker 3: more physical rush offense hopefully and improves their play action
- 32:43Speaker 3: passing game, you know, as well as a as a
- 32:46Speaker 3: counter to that, and that's where you can generate a
- 32:48Speaker 3: lot of those explosive plays.
- 32:50Speaker 2: All right, I've done enough. I've done enough.
- 32:53Speaker 3: I'm my soapbox about that one. H Draymond Jones, Yep,
- 32:59Speaker 3: my feeling on Draymont Jones. And I think what's interesting
- 33:02Speaker 3: about Draymon Jones is that I was looking up all
- 33:06Speaker 3: the metrics, right, pass rush, win rate, you know, PFF stuff,
- 33:10Speaker 3: you know all that, all the good you know, nerd
- 33:12Speaker 3: stuff that that we look at. It's all like very
- 33:16Speaker 3: very comparable to kylevon Chase on like it's you know, both.
- 33:20Speaker 3: I think Chason had seven and a half sacks. Draymont
- 33:24Speaker 3: Jones had seven in the regular season. Just to compare
- 33:27Speaker 3: apples to apples, Uh, Draymont Jones had fifty one quarterback
- 33:31Speaker 3: pressures Kaylevon Chase On was right around the same number
- 33:34Speaker 3: pass fresh win rate. It was like, Uh, Raymont Jones
- 33:38Speaker 3: is like forty sixth in the league out of eighty
- 33:40Speaker 3: qualified edge rushers. Calevon chase On was like forty fifth.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Their names were right next to each other, so in
- 33:47Speaker 3: a lot of ways. And I know Chase On just
- 33:49Speaker 3: signed with the Commanders, you know, I see this as
- 33:51Speaker 3: a kind of one for one replacement, sort of like
- 33:54Speaker 3: what they did with Romeo Dobbs and Stefan Diggs. You know,
- 33:57Speaker 3: we can talk a little bit more about, you know,
- 33:59Speaker 3: how Draymon Joe wins and all that good stuff, But
- 34:01Speaker 3: just from a roster building standpoint, did you see it
- 34:04Speaker 3: the same way and just how they're they're kind of
- 34:06Speaker 3: just filling you know, shoes here right like one in
- 34:10Speaker 3: one out with Draymont Jones and Chase On.
- 34:12Speaker 1: In my opinion, yeah, I mean they win differently, Like
- 34:14Speaker 1: you said, Draymont Jones a little bigger.
- 34:16Speaker 2: He's listed to eighty.
- 34:17Speaker 1: I know that there's some speculations not too eighty anymore.
- 34:19Speaker 1: But he's bigger definitely than Chase On.
- 34:21Speaker 7: More.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going with two sixty five. I feel like
- 34:24Speaker 3: that is.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Going to hold up a little better, I think against
- 34:27Speaker 1: the run than Chase On. To me, Chase On was
- 34:29Speaker 1: like a boomer bus player. He's a flash flash player. Yeah,
- 34:32Speaker 1: Draymont Jones is less flash, but he's not gonna get
- 34:35Speaker 1: beat as much as Chase On either. She's more steady,
- 34:38Speaker 1: so you know, it goes against my thing about adding
- 34:40Speaker 1: the playmakers on defense, but again I think just gives
- 34:43Speaker 1: you more even keel on the edge there.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Yeah, speed to power guy certainly that I would say
- 34:49Speaker 3: his his base, you know of his rush, but because
- 34:52Speaker 3: he's got decent speed to power, like a decent bull rush,
- 34:55Speaker 3: he can you know, dip and use the ghost move
- 34:57Speaker 3: and things like that to turn the corner and win.
- 35:00Speaker 2: With peer speed coming off the edge.
- 35:02Speaker 3: When I watched him, I didn't think of him as
- 35:04Speaker 3: like a big first step explosiveness guy.
- 35:06Speaker 2: The metrics say that it's a he's about on par
- 35:09Speaker 2: not quite.
- 35:09Speaker 3: As good as Landry in that regard, but Landry that's
- 35:12Speaker 3: kind of his thing, but basically on par with Chase
- 35:15Speaker 3: On in terms of like get off and all that
- 35:17Speaker 3: kind of stuff. But eye test wise, I I don't
- 35:20Speaker 3: see him as fluid as as those guys. I think
- 35:23Speaker 3: he's more of a rigid player. That probably goes back
- 35:25Speaker 3: to what you were saying about his size. You know,
- 35:28Speaker 3: he's just bigger than those guys in terms of weight,
- 35:31Speaker 3: but a more powerful guy. I don't think he's necessarily
- 35:34Speaker 3: better against the run to be frank as Chase On like,
- 35:38Speaker 3: I think they're both kind of.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Does means like a plus run? Yeah. Yeah.
- 35:45Speaker 3: The one thing too that I wanted to talk to
- 35:47Speaker 3: you about about Jones is that he's really really good
- 35:51Speaker 3: at rushing.
- 35:52Speaker 2: At the three technique over the guard.
- 35:55Speaker 3: His pass rush win rate, his pressure rate actually skyrockets
- 35:58Speaker 3: when you move him inside a little bit. Especially, you know,
- 36:02Speaker 3: he did a lot in Baltimore and their third down
- 36:04Speaker 3: fronts and things like that. We saw the Patriots try
- 36:09Speaker 3: to find ways for Keon White to play a similar
- 36:12Speaker 3: role where he had some inside outside versatility. They kind
- 36:15Speaker 3: of settled on while we have Christian Barmore and Milon
- 36:17Speaker 3: Williams and these are game wreckers, like why would we
- 36:21Speaker 3: clog the middle, you know for these guys with a
- 36:24Speaker 3: third guy. I don't know if you're getting the best
- 36:28Speaker 3: out of Draymond Jones unless you find him some opportunities
- 36:30Speaker 3: to rush over the guard. Can you know, are they
- 36:34Speaker 3: going to be able to figure that out this time around?
- 36:36Speaker 3: Like if he's purely an edge player, you know, Chase
- 36:39Speaker 3: On was nine technique like outside the tackle, way outside
- 36:42Speaker 3: the tackle, like eighty five percent of the time last year. Yeah,
- 36:46Speaker 3: like that that's the way he was playing, was outside
- 36:49Speaker 3: the tackle. I think this is a guy because of
- 36:52Speaker 3: his you know, his size and his history as a
- 36:53Speaker 3: three technique at Ohio State that has a little bit
- 36:56Speaker 3: more inside outside versatility that's just not necessarily something that
- 37:00Speaker 3: they've done a ton with their edgress.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Should we be looking.
- 37:02Speaker 1: At him partially as a U Kiris Tonga replacement? Then
- 37:07Speaker 1: in addition to Chase On, I.
- 37:08Speaker 3: Guess maybe on third down, I mean obviously, yeah, maybe
- 37:12Speaker 3: on third down or you know, like a Corey Durden,
- 37:15Speaker 3: you know, maybe a little bit more explosive, a little
- 37:17Speaker 3: bit more dynamic.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Dirden to me is the guy that's replacing Tonga, right.
- 37:21Speaker 2: So maybe Turdin goes to more and then so he
- 37:24Speaker 2: goes into the dur role.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Maybe maybe uh I just bring it up because I
- 37:30Speaker 3: do think that they had a Tweener type and Draymond
- 37:33Speaker 3: Jones I wouldn't call up here tweener. I think that
- 37:35Speaker 3: he can play well enough to be outside on the
- 37:37Speaker 3: edge consistently and play starter snaps out there. But we
- 37:41Speaker 3: did the Tweeter thing with Keon White and it did
- 37:43Speaker 3: not work. They just could not find a fit for
- 37:46Speaker 3: him in this system. Now, Keon White was a legit
- 37:48Speaker 3: to eighty like that that that's a different kind of uh,
- 37:51Speaker 3: you know, athlete than Draymond Jones, but just a you know,
- 37:55Speaker 3: I thought that I had in terms of ideally, I'd
- 37:59Speaker 3: like to see dre Amon Jones four or five times
- 38:02Speaker 3: a game, you know, rushing over the outside of the guard,
- 38:05Speaker 3: And I don't know if they have four or five
- 38:07Speaker 3: rush opportunities to give to him unless you know, they
- 38:09Speaker 3: get really creative with their alignment on the defense.
- 38:13Speaker 2: So it'd be interesting to see how they go about
- 38:15Speaker 2: fixing that. You know.
- 38:15Speaker 3: There's some things that I like about his game too,
- 38:18Speaker 3: in terms of how he works, like on games and
- 38:20Speaker 3: stunts and things like that. Up front, he's a really
- 38:23Speaker 3: physical player, really good at setting picks and you know,
- 38:26Speaker 3: bumping guys off of one another and things like that.
- 38:28Speaker 2: So I think that he can be disruptive.
- 38:30Speaker 3: And the Patriots were top five in the league last
- 38:33Speaker 3: year and how often they stunted their defensive line, They
- 38:35Speaker 3: did it a ton, So I think he's a productive
- 38:37Speaker 3: player in that way too.
- 38:38Speaker 2: So interesting signings.
- 38:41Speaker 3: You know, a couple of things that I wanted to mention,
- 38:45Speaker 3: you know that we have left over. I think you
- 38:47Speaker 3: know some of the other signings, what they signed kJ
- 38:49Speaker 3: Britt that just got reported on a couple of minutes ago.
- 38:53Speaker 2: We can hit on that.
- 38:55Speaker 3: You know, Jesse Luketta obviously was a pre pre agent signing,
- 39:00Speaker 3: pre free agent signing. But the one thing I wanted
- 39:03Speaker 3: to kind of set the table on and then we'll
- 39:05Speaker 3: open it up to the calls and emails, is just,
- 39:07Speaker 3: you know, where do they go from here? And I
- 39:10Speaker 3: think the two big spots that we're all looking at.
- 39:12Speaker 3: I agree wholeheartedly that, you know, depth on the offensive line.
- 39:16Speaker 3: You know, they obviously got to hit offensive tackle at
- 39:18Speaker 3: least once more probably in the draft, but they got
- 39:20Speaker 3: to start planning ahead and all that kind of stuff
- 39:23Speaker 3: on the offensive line. Yeah, but we're all we're all
- 39:26Speaker 3: zeroed in. I feel like on EDG drusher and wide receiver.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Right, let me ask you this talking about going ahead,
- 39:30Speaker 1: because I've used this kind of as the barometer for
- 39:33Speaker 1: did they do what I wanted them to do coming
- 39:35Speaker 1: out of free agency? And look, there's still we gotta
- 39:37Speaker 1: see what happens with Jayalen Hawkins. I'll throw that adendum
- 39:40Speaker 1: on it. But I don't know. This is just me
- 39:43Speaker 1: thinking out loud. You tell me, I feel like the
- 39:44Speaker 1: longer it goes, the better chance he's back. I don't
- 39:46Speaker 1: think there's much of a market for safety is given
- 39:48Speaker 1: what's in the draft. My kind of like, I don't
- 39:53Speaker 1: think it's where they had to get. But you know
- 39:56Speaker 1: what I would consider a good free agency period, Right,
- 40:00Speaker 1: Are they in a place where they can draft Blake
- 40:02Speaker 1: Miller thirty first overall? Yeah, and like get by with that,
- 40:06Speaker 1: And that doesn't mean that they have to fill every
- 40:08Speaker 1: need between now and then. There are other needs that
- 40:10Speaker 1: they can fill in the draft, but are like realistic
- 40:12Speaker 1: draft feels like take tight end, right, you don't need
- 40:14Speaker 1: to take that guy at thirty one. You probably shouldn't
- 40:16Speaker 1: be taking that guy at thirty one. Sadiq's not gonna fall.
- 40:18Speaker 2: I don't think there's anybody else on the.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Board as worth taking that high. But like you know,
- 40:23Speaker 1: when they cut digs, it's like, okay, so they they're
- 40:26Speaker 1: gonna need a receiver. They will need a receiver. You know,
- 40:28Speaker 1: they had jobs. They still could use more, but you
- 40:32Speaker 1: can get by if thirty one is not a receiver.
- 40:34Speaker 1: You know, guard was another one they could They're obviously
- 40:36Speaker 1: good at that position now, so Blake Miller would be
- 40:39Speaker 1: when's the last time we could talk about the making
- 40:41Speaker 1: a luxury pick with their first round pick.
- 40:43Speaker 3: I don't need a minute. It's been a minute, but
- 40:46Speaker 3: we're not in luxury pick territory.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Well I think Blake Miller would be a luxury pick. Yeah,
- 40:49Speaker 1: and I don't think we're in there, So you don't
- 40:50Speaker 1: think they're there, okay now, because they might be.
- 40:52Speaker 2: I think they're close.
- 40:53Speaker 3: I think that the two positions that we're looking at
- 40:56Speaker 3: right now. Yeah, there was news this morning that it
- 41:00Speaker 3: sounds like they're going to release Anthony Jennings as well.
- 41:02Speaker 3: So right now their edge rusher depth chart is Jones,
- 41:07Speaker 3: who's gonna play like Draymond Jones signed a good contract
- 41:10Speaker 3: and is going to be a starter for this team.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Harold Landry if he can get his knee right and
- 41:14Speaker 3: get himself healthy. Elijah Ponder, who I think that they
- 41:18Speaker 3: like and are clearly high on. But I think Elijah Ponder,
- 41:22Speaker 3: you're hoping as an undrafted rookie, is a rotational player
- 41:24Speaker 3: and a rotational pass pressure at that Braden Swinston, who
- 41:29Speaker 3: we just didn't see a ton of last year, was
- 41:33Speaker 3: up and down the roster pretty much, whether it was
- 41:35Speaker 3: you know, practice squad to start and then fifty three
- 41:37Speaker 3: towards the end of the season. And Luketta, who I
- 41:40Speaker 3: think is you know, again a low level signing, right
- 41:44Speaker 3: that a low level depth signing. So if we're just
- 41:48Speaker 3: assuming that they're one for one with Calebon, Chase on
- 41:52Speaker 3: and and Draymond Jones, they really haven't made any progress
- 41:57Speaker 3: at edge and it's a great edge class, so I mean,
- 41:59Speaker 3: they have that in their back pocket. I don't think
- 42:02Speaker 3: they're going back to Max Crosby, Like, I don't think
- 42:04Speaker 3: that thing is happening. So they we had the conversations
- 42:08Speaker 3: a start free agency that they kind of need a
- 42:11Speaker 3: dude in the pass rush off the edge. They still
- 42:13Speaker 3: kind of need that dude, like they don't have that yet,
- 42:15Speaker 3: And I think we can make the same argument about
- 42:17Speaker 3: receiver like they and I'll lump tight end in there.
- 42:21Speaker 3: I'm just more reluctant about tight end in the draft
- 42:24Speaker 3: being a day one impact type of player because that
- 42:26Speaker 3: doesn't happen very often, especially when you're not drafting him high.
- 42:29Speaker 1: And just this board doesn't like that guy doesn't exist
- 42:31Speaker 1: in this.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Draft, right, Like you know you're not drafting Tyler Warren
- 42:34Speaker 3: or Colston Lovelin that's going to come in and have
- 42:36Speaker 3: a year one impact. I guess Sam Laporta had a
- 42:38Speaker 3: year one impact as a as an a second round pick,
- 42:41Speaker 3: but those are rare.
- 42:42Speaker 2: But that position what I'm.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Saying about, like the Blake Miller thing, like they do
- 42:47Speaker 1: need another tight end. I'm comfortable with them getting that
- 42:49Speaker 1: guy on day two. We could debate edge, like if
- 42:52Speaker 1: you want them to go higher end than yeah, they can't.
- 42:54Speaker 1: If you like the depth of this class and you
- 42:56Speaker 1: think they can get a real guy on day two,
- 42:58Speaker 1: like there's you can make the case for it, is
- 43:00Speaker 1: my point. It doesn't mean they should go ahead and
- 43:02Speaker 1: do it, but like, are they at a point where
- 43:04Speaker 1: you can make the case for Blake Miller but you
- 43:06Speaker 1: still sound out on that? You sound like you want
- 43:08Speaker 1: the first because I don't.
- 43:10Speaker 3: I don't see how else you get impact players at
- 43:13Speaker 3: those times that even well what I mean, even if
- 43:18Speaker 3: it's trading.
- 43:19Speaker 1: The edge player will okay, So that's fair, you know,
- 43:21Speaker 1: like either way.
- 43:22Speaker 3: It just like using the thirty first overall pick as
- 43:24Speaker 3: an asset. I think you need to move the needle
- 43:27Speaker 3: with that pick like that, And I know that's maybe
- 43:29Speaker 3: easier said than done when you're picking at the end
- 43:31Speaker 3: of the first round, But when you go into some
- 43:33Speaker 3: of the strengths of the draft in terms of like
- 43:36Speaker 3: where the depth is, you know, I think that is
- 43:38Speaker 3: doable at edge rusher that you could get, you know,
- 43:40Speaker 3: a Mesador, a cash As Howell, a player that's going
- 43:43Speaker 3: to come in right away and make an impact later
- 43:45Speaker 3: on in the first round.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Does that receiver exist, I don't know.
- 43:50Speaker 3: Because they took you know, they take Romeo Dobs off
- 43:53Speaker 3: the board in free agency. I think that that makes
- 43:57Speaker 3: Omar Cooper junior case he can set if they were
- 44:01Speaker 3: there at thirty one, a little bit redundant. I would
- 44:04Speaker 3: say to a guy like Romeo Dobs, like you're really
- 44:06Speaker 3: looking for the Chris Brassel of the world, right, Like
- 44:09Speaker 3: the big outside guy that can stretch the field. It's
- 44:11Speaker 3: a little rich to take him at thirty one, but
- 44:13Speaker 3: can you manipulate the board and figure that out?
- 44:15Speaker 2: Maybe? I guess this is all me just saying.
- 44:19Speaker 3: I still think at thirty one you need a year
- 44:21Speaker 3: one impact kind of sign, you know, transaction, whether that's
- 44:25Speaker 3: trading the pick for aj Brown, drafting an edge rusher there, uh,
- 44:29Speaker 3: finding a way to make it make sense at wide
- 44:31Speaker 3: receiver there, you know, all those different things. I don't
- 44:34Speaker 3: think they're in a position where they're red shirting first.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Round pick fair enough.
- 44:38Speaker 3: So those two spots are definitely the big one. I
- 44:41Speaker 3: think tight end is like a third, sneaky one. Yeah,
- 44:43Speaker 3: that's you know, right there with it, especially after you
- 44:46Speaker 3: know Austin Hooper going back to Atlanta. They really have
- 44:49Speaker 3: no depth at that position behind Hunter Henry right now,
- 44:51Speaker 3: no at least NFL caliber depth. So whether it's going
- 44:54Speaker 3: out there and signing, you know, there's not a lot
- 44:57Speaker 3: left in free agency. But you know, I'm not a
- 44:59Speaker 3: big chickaqo quo guy. But we're three days into free agency,
- 45:02Speaker 3: so you can't.
- 45:03Speaker 1: I mean, I'd still take unless he I tried to
- 45:06Speaker 1: catch up when I was driving down here David Joke,
- 45:07Speaker 1: who still don't signed.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, so that's the one that I think makes
- 45:10Speaker 3: a lot of sense just from the connection with Rabel
- 45:12Speaker 3: and Ashton Grant and the Cleveland people and that are
- 45:16Speaker 3: in this organization.
- 45:17Speaker 2: I'm still here even than Joke was older, so was
- 45:20Speaker 2: Elliott Wolf Like's twenty nine. Maybe.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Yeah, here's where I'm at at tight end. I'm honestly
- 45:25Speaker 1: okay at this point if they just do tight end
- 45:26Speaker 1: in the draft, I don't know that that needs Like,
- 45:29Speaker 1: I don't I'm wrong if they signed David Joku, solid signing,
- 45:31Speaker 1: but yeah, the whole point they're supposed to be getting younger,
- 45:34Speaker 1: getting the next guy in for Hunter Henry and David
- 45:37Speaker 1: Joke who's entering his age thirty season, so he's not
- 45:40Speaker 1: older than Hunter Henry, but he's not young either. Like,
- 45:42Speaker 1: you're not talking about a guy who's gonna play for
- 45:44Speaker 1: five or six years. So if you're gonna sign him
- 45:47Speaker 1: or Chicka konk Wo, you still need to get the
- 45:50Speaker 1: younger guy, which I'd like to see them take relatively
- 45:54Speaker 1: high top one fifty, but now that guy's buried, I
- 45:57Speaker 1: don't know. Am I nuts for thinking? Like if CJ.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Dupreze the third tight end. I'm fine with that.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Yes, I'm saying no, if you and they use.
- 46:08Speaker 1: A top one hundred pick on Sam Rousch or Oscar
- 46:11Speaker 1: Delp in your room next year, is Hunter Henry that
- 46:16Speaker 1: rookie and then maybe you draft a guy later, or
- 46:19Speaker 1: you bring in a lower level free agent to complete
- 46:22Speaker 1: with to compete with dupre for the third spot, for
- 46:24Speaker 1: all the other things they have to do. I think
- 46:27Speaker 1: that's a fine room. I think that's that would be
- 46:29Speaker 1: enough for me.
- 46:30Speaker 3: So I think the concern is and again I I'll
- 46:35Speaker 3: concede that this is the recent history is a little
- 46:38Speaker 3: bit better, yeah, than the long term history. But historically speaking,
- 46:43Speaker 3: because of all the run and pass game responsibilities on
- 46:46Speaker 3: a tight end shoulders, it is a slow developing position.
- 46:49Speaker 3: So if you're drafting a rookie, and you're especially if
- 46:52Speaker 3: you're drafting a rookie, uh you know at sixty three
- 46:55Speaker 3: or ninety five or something like that, that's you know,
- 46:57Speaker 3: further down the draft the expectation of him really being
- 47:01Speaker 3: a contributor as a rookie is not very high.
- 47:03Speaker 1: But again, this is somebody They're not gonna be the
- 47:06Speaker 1: top tight end. It's still gonna be Hunter Henry. Yeah,
- 47:08Speaker 1: and yeah, so you want to get that guy in
- 47:11Speaker 1: so that you know Hunter Henry's kind of year to
- 47:14Speaker 1: year at this point. I would think, right, he's in
- 47:16Speaker 1: a contract year.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess it depends on who it is. Like
- 47:18Speaker 2: if it's somebody that I've.
- 47:19Speaker 1: See talking about drafting, like a legit tight end has
- 47:22Speaker 1: some real upside, then sure. So again, the two names
- 47:25Speaker 1: I gave you, Delp and assuming his foot sealed and
- 47:29Speaker 1: he's healthy, Delp and Roush would be the two that
- 47:31Speaker 1: I would consider for that spot. Sure, or if they
- 47:33Speaker 1: want to go really nuts Max Claire.
- 47:35Speaker 7: Sure.
- 47:35Speaker 1: I don't know if they're gonna take guy that high,
- 47:36Speaker 1: but he would fit that. I think about taking somebody
- 47:40Speaker 1: in the sixth round.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Right now, I know I would. I think I would
- 47:43Speaker 2: feel better.
- 47:44Speaker 3: Uh. You know, I'm glad you brought up in Joku
- 47:46Speaker 3: with like an Njoku signing plus drafting one of those.
- 47:49Speaker 1: But I don't know because but if they sign in joke,
- 47:52Speaker 1: I don't want them to draft the tight end in
- 47:53Speaker 1: the top one hundred.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Why because that guy's not gonna play.
- 47:56Speaker 3: No, I mean I why not, Like if you just
- 47:58Speaker 3: is better than inn Djoku then why not.
- 48:00Speaker 1: He's gonna be I don't think he's gonna better than
- 48:01Speaker 1: a joking for you probably paying Joku like that would
- 48:03Speaker 1: be a beat. Then then then why are you signing
- 48:05Speaker 1: a Joku.
- 48:06Speaker 3: Because you're gonna sign in Joku to like a one
- 48:07Speaker 3: year contract as like somebody that is a backstop if.
- 48:11Speaker 2: That's what you think he's getting.
- 48:13Speaker 1: By all means, I mean, I feel like his market
- 48:15Speaker 1: should be bigger than that.
- 48:16Speaker 3: It's Wednesday of free agency. What kind of market do
- 48:18Speaker 3: you think he's gonna have. If he was gonna have
- 48:19Speaker 3: this like huge market, then he would have already if.
- 48:21Speaker 1: It's a one year deal and it's two A to
- 48:23Speaker 1: B with him as a rookie. By that's kind of
- 48:25Speaker 1: what I said, you get all right, if it's not c. J. Dupree,
- 48:27Speaker 1: you signed somebody compete with him. I was thinking more
- 48:29Speaker 1: like a you know who's still available, like Tyler Higbee
- 48:32Speaker 1: kind of guy.
- 48:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I just feel like I just wouldn't necessarily count
- 48:38Speaker 3: on a rookie tight end.
- 48:39Speaker 2: Adam Troutman.
- 48:40Speaker 1: You're stilling on Adam Trutn.
- 48:41Speaker 2: I was in the draft.
- 48:42Speaker 1: You were a big and remember yeah.
- 48:44Speaker 3: I was a Day two pick at tight end, especially
- 48:49Speaker 3: where their day two picks are, Like, I just wouldn't
- 48:52Speaker 3: put all my eggs in the basket of that guy
- 48:54Speaker 3: is gonna be.
- 48:55Speaker 2: You know, now in in the league.
- 48:57Speaker 3: Now, Like that's that's a big role, the second tight end,
- 49:00Speaker 3: Like you're you're playing two tight ends in an NFL
- 49:03Speaker 3: offense these days twenty five thirty percent of the time,
- 49:07Speaker 3: you know, most likely like that, that's a that's not
- 49:11Speaker 3: an insignificant role. And I just don't know if I
- 49:14Speaker 3: would put all that on a rookie.
- 49:16Speaker 2: And but you're.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Saying, sign a guy and then have him be behind
- 49:20Speaker 1: the rookie.
- 49:21Speaker 3: If the rookie's better, then yeah, yeah, but I'm not.
- 49:25Speaker 1: I'm not gonna I's getting a one year deal.
- 49:28Speaker 2: Fine, yeah, I.
- 49:29Speaker 3: Mean it doesn't even necessarily have to be in Joku.
- 49:31Speaker 3: We don't have to get bogged down by the Djoku.
- 49:33Speaker 2: Of it all.
- 49:34Speaker 3: Like just saying, like a serviceable veteran tight end, even
- 49:37Speaker 3: if you want to say it's in like the Austin Hooper,
- 49:40Speaker 3: like I think in djoku's a better player than Austin Hooper. Like,
- 49:43Speaker 3: but yeah, even if it's in like that Austin Hooper.
- 49:45Speaker 3: Realm me, you mentioned Tyler Higbee like somebody like that.
- 49:48Speaker 3: I just need an NFL tight end that's in that
- 49:50Speaker 3: room that's not you know, somebody like CJ. DePree who
- 49:53Speaker 3: didn't play as a rookie, as an undrafted guy, and
- 49:56Speaker 3: a third round pick like that, to me just isn't
- 49:59Speaker 3: quite enough, especially with Hunter Henry's age, his injury history,
- 50:03Speaker 3: some of the slumping with his blocking last year.
- 50:05Speaker 1: Maybe maybe I'm maybe I'm giving the rookie class or
- 50:09Speaker 1: the team too much credit for developing that guy.
- 50:11Speaker 2: But it's a quick development at that position.
- 50:14Speaker 1: I mean, I the position. You didn't mention his safety,
- 50:17Speaker 1: which I've said that, even if they keep Jalen Hawkins,
- 50:19Speaker 1: I still want them to add like a legit third
- 50:21Speaker 1: safety so they can do more three safety stuff if
- 50:23Speaker 1: they lose him. You're not talking about a starter. You're
- 50:25Speaker 1: not talking about a guy that's probably gonna.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Be on the field sixty What how much Hawkins played
- 50:30Speaker 2: last year? All?
- 50:31Speaker 1: Seventy eighty percent of the time.
- 50:32Speaker 2: I want to say, was it more because a lot
- 50:35Speaker 2: Woodson didn't come off the field? Yeah? Woodson was hawks
- 50:39Speaker 2: of ninety last year. Wow?
- 50:40Speaker 1: Okay, so yeah, yeah, So you're talking about you know
- 50:43Speaker 1: that that if they even say.
- 50:44Speaker 3: If they lose Hawkins, I guess is they'll pivot in
- 50:46Speaker 3: free agency's signing a NFL caliber player.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Well, I mean, yeah, that goes to the top of
- 50:51Speaker 1: the needs if they lose Hawks.
- 50:52Speaker 2: I I just bringing you.
- 50:53Speaker 3: I know there's some chatter on Twitter about like Nick
- 50:55Speaker 3: Cross or like somebody like that. You know, I'm sure
- 50:57Speaker 3: if they if they lost Hawkins, I'm sure they would
- 51:01Speaker 3: pivot to signing a start to.
- 51:03Speaker 1: See them add another safety on top of that though.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Okay, but they can do that in the third or
- 51:06Speaker 2: fourth round. They don't have to do that using a
- 51:09Speaker 2: lot of Day two picks.
- 51:10Speaker 3: Now, what do you mean we're gonna draft an edge rusher,
- 51:12Speaker 3: wide receiver with the first pick. Whichever position you don't
- 51:15Speaker 3: take with the first pick is probably going to be
- 51:17Speaker 3: your second.
- 51:17Speaker 1: We need to take a second round receiver.
- 51:21Speaker 3: It depends on the skill set. Like if you know,
- 51:24Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't know. If you know, we
- 51:26Speaker 3: can play the game, who's going to be there, who's
- 51:29Speaker 3: not going to be there?
- 51:30Speaker 2: You know?
- 51:30Speaker 3: But if you're talking about a guy that can win
- 51:33Speaker 3: on the outside and has some field stretching ability, then
- 51:36Speaker 3: I think you still need to add that, Like, I know,
- 51:38Speaker 3: we're all hoping that that can be Kyle Williams, and
- 51:42Speaker 3: Kyle Williams is in a crowded room last year behind
- 51:45Speaker 3: veteran players, if you want to use that as an excuse.
- 51:47Speaker 3: But the track record of guys that caught ten catches
- 51:50Speaker 3: as a rookie then going on to having a great
- 51:53Speaker 3: NFL career is not very good, you know, like just
- 51:56Speaker 3: being honest, like it's not you know, there's a reason
- 51:59Speaker 3: why the five fifty club exists, right, Like that's you know,
- 52:01Speaker 3: the barometer for rookie receivers being you know, big time
- 52:04Speaker 3: players in the league. It doesn't happen very often if
- 52:07Speaker 3: they're not you know, instantly contributing to a team. So
- 52:12Speaker 3: I don't know, Like I guess you're putting a lot
- 52:14Speaker 3: of credence in Kyle Williams, Kyshan Boody not having any
- 52:19Speaker 3: like catch point regression, you know, like he had a
- 52:21Speaker 3: lot of kind of crazy, you know, uh, contested catches
- 52:25Speaker 3: last year. Mac Hollins like having the same level of
- 52:27Speaker 3: juice of doing that you know sort of thing as
- 52:29Speaker 3: a bigger receiver on the outside. It's just I think
- 52:32Speaker 3: you need to start you need to keep looking for
- 52:35Speaker 3: ceiling at that position, and the only way that you're
- 52:39Speaker 3: going to do that is with the draft for trades.
- 52:40Speaker 3: Like we just saw that. You know, al Pearce isn't coming,
- 52:43Speaker 3: he's not hitting free agency. So let's take a quick
- 52:46Speaker 3: break and then let's open it up to the calls

- 55:24Speaker 3: news inside baseball. We just found out that we are
- 55:27Speaker 3: going to hear from some of the Patriots free agent
- 55:30Speaker 3: signings tomorrow, so that'll be at one o'clock. Might hear
- 55:33Speaker 3: from Elliott Wolf as well in that time too, So
- 55:38Speaker 3: here from some of the guys. Don't know who yet,
- 55:40Speaker 3: I don't know who's coming right to town to sign
- 55:42Speaker 3: their contracts. But four o'clock today is the start of
- 55:45Speaker 3: the new league year, so players can officially start signing
- 55:49Speaker 3: these contracts this afternoon or this evening, I guess I
- 55:53Speaker 3: should say.
- 55:53Speaker 2: And most of it happens tomorrow.
- 55:55Speaker 3: So the Patriots will be introducing some players from their
- 55:58Speaker 3: free agency class tomorrow. I'm sure Alex and I will
- 56:01Speaker 3: both be here for that.
- 56:03Speaker 2: So that would be good.
- 56:03Speaker 3: But let's get back to the calls and emails and
- 56:06Speaker 3: all that good stuff. Get you guys involved. Sean is
- 56:08Speaker 3: in Vancouver.
- 56:09Speaker 2: What's up? Sean?
- 56:12Speaker 4: Hello?
- 56:12Speaker 3: How are we doing great?
- 56:14Speaker 4: How are you guys?
- 56:16Speaker 12: Let's say in free agency they continue bringing in players,
- 56:20Speaker 12: bring back Hawkins, a safety, get another edge like Arnold Abikiti,
- 56:26Speaker 12: and then bringing tight end and David joke in the
- 56:30Speaker 12: draft at thirty one? Would you go with Chris Brazil Junior.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Who is the second one? Sorry?
- 56:40Speaker 12: So bringing in na Jokeu for tight end? Yeah, and
- 56:45Speaker 12: bringing in Abikiti for another edge, and bringing in safety
- 56:53Speaker 12: Hawkins like bringing back Hawkins. So those those are the
- 56:55Speaker 12: free agents were let's say that that happens. We're looking
- 56:59Speaker 12: at thirty one? Are you thinking, okay, well, we need
- 57:02Speaker 12: a big speed receivers. That's that's our need. So does
- 57:07Speaker 12: Chris Basel Junior like match?
- 57:09Speaker 6: That?
- 57:09Speaker 13: Is that the guy you would go with if he's there?
- 57:11Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 57:12Speaker 3: God, thanks for the call, Sean. Yeah, I think you
- 57:14Speaker 3: know all those free agents are possible. I wouldn't be
- 57:17Speaker 3: surprised if they added one more edge guy, you know,
- 57:19Speaker 3: just to as depth. Uh, you know, we talk about
- 57:22Speaker 3: this a lot, like you don't want to get to
- 57:24Speaker 3: the draft and have a glaring need on the roster
- 57:26Speaker 3: where you're forced to take a certain position. Now, wide
- 57:29Speaker 3: receiver might be treading in that direction just because of
- 57:31Speaker 3: supply and demand, Like they just don't be come available
- 57:33Speaker 3: in free agency. Right if aj Brown and that trade
- 57:37Speaker 3: has fallen through, and I'm not saying it has, but
- 57:38Speaker 3: if it has, then you have you're really left with
- 57:41Speaker 3: no other choice but to try to keep throwing darts
- 57:43Speaker 3: in the draft, and that that's just the nature of
- 57:45Speaker 3: that position. Nine times out of ten, those guys get
- 57:48Speaker 3: traded or they get drafted. They don't hit free agency,
- 57:52Speaker 3: as we see every single year. So Chris Brasel, you know,
- 57:56Speaker 3: I'm you know, I'm a big fan of his, you know,
- 57:59Speaker 3: just base off of where he was before the combine,
- 58:03Speaker 3: and you don't want to you don't want to count
- 58:05Speaker 3: the forty twice like you already knew he was fasty,
- 58:08Speaker 3: so you don't want it now all of a sudden
- 58:09Speaker 3: and say, oh, well, you know he ran a four
- 58:11Speaker 3: to three, So now he's a Now he's you know,
- 58:14Speaker 3: a first round pick when most boards had him what
- 58:17Speaker 3: like maybe fringe top fifty, you know, going into the combine.
- 58:21Speaker 3: But if you want him, he's not going to make
- 58:24Speaker 3: it to your your second round pick. Yeah, So if
- 58:27Speaker 3: you want him, then yeah, you have to take him
- 58:29Speaker 3: that higher. I don't that's a tough one for me
- 58:32Speaker 3: because I like the player, but it does feel a
- 58:35Speaker 3: little bit rich for you know, the profile, Like I
- 58:39Speaker 3: think that there are some question marks, especially you know,
- 58:42Speaker 3: just the history of that Tennessee offense in those ways.
- 58:44Speaker 1: I mean, maybe you move down a little bit. But
- 58:46Speaker 1: the thing is, those guys are going to start going fast,
- 58:48Speaker 1: right if I think Denzel Boston's going to be off
- 58:52Speaker 1: the board when they pick, yeah, But if if Boston
- 58:54Speaker 1: and concept you own are gone, and then you're assuming
- 58:56Speaker 1: Tate Lemon and Tyson are gone, well, now there's probably
- 58:59Speaker 1: gonna be a run early on day two between Omar
- 59:01Speaker 1: Cooper Brasel. You know, I don't know how teams WI
- 59:04Speaker 1: ultimately feel about Zach Ryan Branch, but like they're gonna
- 59:06Speaker 1: start to go.
- 59:07Speaker 2: Yeah, so you're gonna have to.
- 59:09Speaker 1: I don't think you're It's not that you're not getting
- 59:11Speaker 1: him at sixty two. I don't know that you're realistically
- 59:13Speaker 1: moving up from sixty two without giving up the future first.
- 59:17Speaker 1: But you don't want to do definite wouldn't give up
- 59:19Speaker 1: the future first to move up and get brazzle.
- 59:22Speaker 3: Let me ask you if throw a few names at
- 59:24Speaker 3: you and well, let's just let's just brainstorm live on
- 59:26Speaker 3: the air here.
- 59:27Speaker 2: Yeah. So Jerry Bernard I like, but he feels more
- 59:33Speaker 2: of like a Z. Yeah he dobs wrong.
- 59:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think that he's quite a true X
- 59:39Speaker 3: or really what we're looking for. Two names that you know,
- 59:42Speaker 3: kind of stand out to me that I've watched recently.
- 59:46Speaker 3: I think that we would be talking about Chris Bell from.
- 59:49Speaker 2: Louis Don't do this to me, don't it is?
- 59:52Speaker 1: It would have been so easy for him to be
- 59:55Speaker 1: the guy at thirty one. It would have made all
- 59:57Speaker 1: or he would have pushed Denzel Boston down. It would
- 59:59Speaker 1: have made all the sense in the world. That sucks
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: that he got hurt.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: Okay, so he got hurt. He tours ACL late lately,
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: very late December. Yeah, I have it right here. December
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: or November twenty second was the date that he tore
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: it sure.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: I thought that was in December. November twenty second was
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: the day he tore it.
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: So he Chris Bell gets hurt at the end of
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: the college football season. I think it was the last
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: last game that Louisville played in the regular season.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: I don't know if they probably went to a bowl, right,
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Louisville's decent. Yeah, I mean he was right. So Chris
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Bell gets hurt. I watched two CHRISP. Bell games.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: I've watched Miami and Clemson, so too are pretty good competition.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Well, Clemson sucks this year, where the corners are still good.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: He took two crossing routes, caught him in stride, and
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: took them both to the house from like forty plus
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: yards out, and you just see like the run after
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: catchability and the explosiveness and you're like, whoa. You know,
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: this guy's like destroying angles in the open field with
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: the ball in his hands. There's big concerns about you know, injury.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Obviously it happened lately late in the season last year,
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: so you don't know if he's gonna contribute in twenty six.
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: All those things aside, Uh, you know, we just watched
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: Stefon Diggs come back quickly from an ACL and be
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: ninety five percent Stefon Diggs.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Yeah, said, but he's also Stefan Diggs. Or he was
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: doing this after years experience in the league. Yeah, been
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: in a similar ruck.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Okays before all fair?
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: My question I feel facilitation here is as a Day
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: two pick, as a team that is not looking for
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: just another wide receiver. Three to use that praseology, you
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: are looking for ceiling ceiling ceiling at that position. You
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: need to hit a home run at that position. Is
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: it worth the risk to say again on day two
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: not at thirty one? On day two, we are just
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: gonna this is a first round talent that we're getting
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: on day two of the draft. Because he blew out
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: his knee late in last year in the college football season.
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: We're just gonna We're gonna bank on him being healthy
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: and being the same guy.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: Not where he's going to go. I think he's still
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: might go top fifty. You think he's still gonna I
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: still think he might go top I guess it depends
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: on Like I.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Mean, let's let's say we're essentially talking about another I
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: guess it's not as bad because it's not the track record,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: But we're kind of talking about another Malcolm Mitchell the
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: type situation.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, he doesn't have a debilitating the injury.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Well, but you know, like these things can can change, right,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: It's just to me, it's got me a diet PEPSI.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: You you when we were.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Talking before about Kyle Williams, and you mentioned like the
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: track record of these guys having success their first year.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: Even if he does play as a rookie, he's not
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: going to get mini camp, training camp. He's these throwing
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: sessions in with Drake May. You know, he's not going
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: to get as immersed in the offense as he probably
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: needs to rite away. We've seen this with other receivers
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: that have come here, have gotten hurt in the spring
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: and summer, miss time in OTA's, miss time in training camp,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: and never really caught up. Now, maybe those weren't the
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: most talented players to begin with, but it definitely impacted
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: their development. So my my ceiling for Chris Bell for
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: the Patriots, if you want to trade up into like
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: the seventies or eighties from ninety six, that's where you
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: can start to sell me on Chris Bell fun player
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: again if he was and part of it, I gotta
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: be consistent, explosive. I didn't want Josh Simmons last year. Yeah,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: I didn't think they're in position to take that risk.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Well, I'm the reason why I bring it up is
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: because I think they're more in that position.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: They're more in that position if it here's the if
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: he played another position, I might be more inclined. Okay,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I I what part of it is the wide receiver
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: and just the way it works working at and.
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: Sure you sound in on this, Yeah, I am, because
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: I think that I keep coming back because he was
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: gonna be my.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: Ceiling.
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: They need they we do not need them to draft
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: another uh you know, complimentary third receiver. They have five
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: of those, right Like, they don't need any more of
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: that middle.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: That's why I said to you, soo do you take
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Why are you taking wide receiver?
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: On day two? I just look at this.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: Group and this is assuming that you know, Mike guy
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: Brazzle is off the border, kind of in that doughnut
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: range of like he's not good enough at thirty one,
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: but he's not gonna make it to sixty five. I
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: just look at this day two group and now I
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: look at I'm kind of taking the slot Z type
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: of guys out because they just paid Romeo Dobbs a
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: crap ton of money to play that rung.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: That's a fair assumption.
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: So I'm gonna take those guys out, and I'm just
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: gonna look at explosive down the field guys. Now, I
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: think Chris Bell is more explosive with the ball in
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: his hands, like catch and run explosive than he is
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: like true vertical explosive.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: But I think he's good at the catch point though
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: he's explosive. He's a big play dude. I talk stronger
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: on offense.
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: They need upside, they need they need high level talent,
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: they need ceiling at that position.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: And yeah, you might have to take on a little
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: bit of an injury risk.
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: But and I know you're gonna say what you said
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: about digs and these are proven guys and I get that. Yeah,
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: medicine is a little bit of a different animal, like
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: it just is. You know, I watched the Von Diggs
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: come back from an acl in like nine or ten months. Uh,
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: you know you knew I was gonna bring this up
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: at some point. I will just I'm watching Jason Tatum
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: play ten months after tearing in.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: A different sports, so I'm just saying I just wanted
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: to mention Jason Tatum.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: Of course, I'm just saying good that we're talking about
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: maybe a different like we're in the modern twenty twenty
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: six medicine here where like a CLS or no, this
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: isn't Willis mcgahey.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: So if I'm nuts first saying I expect Chris Brahel
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: to develop into Stephan Diggs production. Yeah, and uh or
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: sorry if I'm if I'm not just saying I expect
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: Romeo Dobbs to develop in to Stephan Diggs production. And
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Dobbs has proven seven undred almost sven hundred fifty in
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: the NFL. People, Oh, now I'm supposed to expect some
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: kid coming off a torn ACL to step in and
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: do that with limited practice time, Like I just I
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: don't know.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: I I don't. I might take the bet on the upside,
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: you know what, I yeah, but what realistically when is
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: that upside hit.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Twenty twenty eight?
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe I don't know.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: If he misses this year, if he's really that good,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: if he misses this year, if he's really that good.
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: He's that good, we don't know. It's a tough adjustment
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: from college to the pros. We don't know.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: He has no proven NFL. I like Chris Bell. I
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: hate that they're making me do this.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: I like Chris Ball.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: You're the guy that turned me onto this. I would
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: just rather some other team take the risk of this point. Okay,
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: trust me. If he was healthy, I would be sitting here,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Saint Chris Bell at thirty one. Next question, Okay, but
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: I think you have to consider that.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: Okay, let me throw a few more names at you
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: in this kind of role. The other guy that I
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: keep seeing a lot that people are Patriots fans Patriots
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: Twitter is Jacoby Lane from usc And I'll say this
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: part about Jacoby Lane and then we'll get into the
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: stuff that makes Jacobe Layane intriguing. Dan Brugler put a
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: tweet out there that I thought was interesting in the
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: reply to a Patriots fan about Jacoby Lane. This is
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: Dan Burglar's reporting, not mine. Dame Brugler said, doesn't feel
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: like he's a Rabel type of player, which tells me toughness, effort,
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: and finish. Is he one of these guys that pulls
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: his hamstring and you know I'm hert coach, you know,
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: like like one of these types of things. That's what
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: it tells me, because I don't think that he's a
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: There's nothing about Jacobe Lane that spells that he's like
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: a bad dude or anything like that, right, So I
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: think that this is more about play demeanor, like football
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: play demeanor that doesn't really scream vable Now. At the
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: same time, enormous catch radius, like one of the biggest
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: catch radius is in the draft, great hands highlight reel catches.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: I think the one thing that scares me a little bit,
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: Natural hands catcher by the way, too, like can pluck
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: the ball outside of his frame, bring it in all
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: sorts of different things. We saw him in the Gauntlet drill,
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: like under the gauntlet drill, smooth as silk. The one
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: thing that I think, you know stands out though, is
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: he's got a little bit of that like Aaron Dobson
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: Nikhil Harry, Like all of his highlights are these one
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: handed catches, but there's no step.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: What's in between them?
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's just like okay, like this is a
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: great highlight reel receiver. But you know the consistency there
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: of consistently separating, especially once the routes get further down
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: the field, Like, is he a guy that with his
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: size and with his radius can be like a slant
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: winner and stuff like that.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: Could probably do that. He's gonna win jump balls. He's
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: gonna war win you know, a handful of jump balls
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: a season. But we've seen that type of movie before,
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: like we know where that sometimes goes. It's why I
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: have reluctance with a guy like Malachi Fields from Notre Dame,
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: Like where do you stand right now on Jacobe Lane?
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: Because I think this is another guy that a lot
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: of people I keep seeing as like the day to
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: guy right now in this like bigger receiver mold.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you know somebody that big you'd like to see
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: get off the line a little better too.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I agree with you. He's a builder
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: of speed. He's he's not a he's a he's a train.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: If you, if you can drink, make make it work
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: with a guy that's just fifty to fifteen can make
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: that work regularly.
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: I understand it.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: But he's gonna have I don't know, you know, when
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: you're talking about the X, you're talking about a guy
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: that's gonna be on the field. What seventy eighty percent
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: of the snaps a lot.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: Yeah, Kishan Boodi was on the field of front.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: Do you trust him to give you what you need
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: in that volume? He's probably more of a situational player.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: I think early on in his career he's probably like
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: matchup red zone guy, where like, yeah, if you were
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: playing a team that has a bunch of small corners
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: and you just feel like you can get him on
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: one of those guys and he just can moss the
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: corner down the field or it's red zone and you're
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: trying to you know, throw him a fade or high
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: point fade or use his size and things like that,
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: you know, they need to improve their red zone offense.
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: I think Romeo Dodson Gilliam actually helped in both those regards.
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: Maybe something we didn't necessarily mention is that Romeo Dobbs
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: to mention that, yeah, has like seventeen red zone touchdown relays. Yeah,
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: really good red zone player, really good playoff player so
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: far in his career with Dobbs. So maybe they already
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: did a little bit of that, But I just thought
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: bringing him up was important because he's Yeah, I keep
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: seeing his name everywhere.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Where you're at Ted Hurst, So I need to watch
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: more of Ted Hurst. Uh A spoiler shocker.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: Georgia State Film is not very prevalent in the underground
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: uh draft film market. Uh they also YouTube. Uh you
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: know we're on YouTube right now. So I should be
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: careful with this. But at the same time, like they
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: keep on like copywriting all of like the draft, you're you're.
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Only looking for the big time opponents he played. So
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: I would look where you find just pulling up their schedule.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: I'd look where you find Old miss in Memphis film.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: I could try that. And Vanderbilt there's two guy, him
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: and Skyler Beller are the two guys.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Either give up seventy to Vanderbilt.
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: I have a request, you know, with my people about
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: trying to find film on those guys. You would think
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: I could just go down the hall and ask, but
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: I can't.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: I do like Skyler bell I guess he makes less
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: sense now with Romeo Dobbs, but he's a good player.
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: Yeah, you know the other guys you know that I've
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: watched recently, Like I I like Antonio will Let's bring
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: that recency bias player. I like Antonio Williams from Clemson.
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: But that's just not what they need right now. You
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: know he's a shifty slot receiver. You know, a lot
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: of different things going on there with him, recency, biased players.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: You know, I've been pretty free agency heavy this week.
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: So i.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: Haven't done a ton of of God.
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: I'll give you one though, and I'm gonna butcher his
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: last name because I'm just terrible with names. Uh is
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: it Jackus Gabe Jackis acis Ares. The jay is silent,
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: It's a it's a soft jay jogging.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: No Ja Jakis, no Acus, The jay is silent, Gabe
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: Akus Gabe Acus from Illinois.
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: That guy is a dude. Is He's mean, He's nasty,
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: he is a Yeah, he just wants to bring his
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: You know, he wants to bring the fight to you.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: He wants to hurt you. Yeah.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: I like he wants he wants to make people talk
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: about the day they faced gave Akis.
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: You talk about fear and every finish right like you
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: talk about guys that played to the whistle and play physical, Uh,
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: stand up outside linebacker two Like that kind of fits
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: their mold. If I don't know where ex like he
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: might be like an early day Day two pick. It
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: might be kind of like fringe second third round. Yeah,
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: but he maybe top fifty.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: He was fun.
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: I mean I wrote down you know, just rugged, like rugged, splash,
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: plays like all over the that.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: Team leader thing too. He's supposed to be great in
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: a room.
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: Yeah, fun player.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: I think he gets more violent just watching him, because
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: he really broke out last year.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: I think in another draft we're talking about him as
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: like a sleeper pick a thirty one.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: In this draft, no, because there's so much depth at edge, right,
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: But in another draft he gets some buzz like he's
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: the guy everybody's talking about. Is like, you know, nobody's
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: considering in the first round. And again he won't get
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: that this year, but he's a Yeah, I'm a big
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: fan of his.
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: Yeah, he was a lot of fun to watch. I
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: mean some of the words that I just wrote in
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: my notes.
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: You know, rugged, violent, you know just bully Will is
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: to just not just take on blocks, but play through blocks,
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: like he's trying to go through a poller, Like he's
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: you know, that's not just a guy that's just looking
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: to sort of survive the fight there.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: He's trying to bring the fight to you. Just feels
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: like a rable type of player.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: I don't know if he's gonna be in a reasonable
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: range for them if they.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: Don't go edge in the first round.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: I think, and maybe they trade up a little bit,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: but with the way they've talked about their need at edge,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: I'm not rolling that out. Yeah, Like no, I think
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: he could be in realistic range for them, especially if
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: some of these other guys ahead of them, you know,
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: if if height falls because of his size, and if
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: you know, Casius Howell takes a little bit of a
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: dip because of his arm length and Zion Young And that's.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: My big draft take with this class. Yeah, Ruben Bain's
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: going to be fine. Yeah, Rubin Bain's going to be
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: a top five, top ten pick. He's going to go
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: exactly where he would have gone regardless of the arm length.
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: The guy to me that's gonna slip because of the
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: measurables is cash is Well.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: The other thing too, is just see this. Sometimes when
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: it's a great class at a position, right, guys end
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: up going later because teams kind of know in the
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: back of their head, well, if I don't get this
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: guy here, there's still talent down the board, and so
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: everybody kind of waits. So I'm not running that out.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: I give you a RECNCY player for you. So I
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: this is a TBD take. I don't know if I'm
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: saying the Patriot should pick this guy yet, I am
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: just interested because he is interesting. Okay, it's a running back.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: So I'm gonna assume you haven't watched him. Day three
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: player Adam Randall from Clemson. So he was a receives,
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: a converted receiver.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: I probably saw him when I was watching the receiver
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: from Clemson.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: Well, he is a converted receiver six three, two thirty two,
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: and he still doesn't he's still learning how to play
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: running back. But he's got great burst take on contact.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Obviously he's a plus in the past game.
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: You so desperately you love them drafting running backs every year.
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: I think they need a running back every year. You're
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: un we just did.
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: He was their third running back. You laughed at me
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: for saying that.
- 1:14:56Speaker 13: It was.
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: Rmandra Stevenson on a big high tracked and they just
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: drafted Trevon Henderson in the second right. So the many
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: more running backs do you want them to invest?
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: You need three?
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: Did you not see what happened last year?
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: Okay, so we can go in there we have four
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: six round picks. You can use one of those on
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: a running.
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: That's where Adam Randall's supposed to go.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: Go okay, I'm off your chase, go ahead.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: So well, I just kind of told like he's a
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: converted receiver. Yeah, so you can move him all around
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: the formation.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: Josh likes to do that. Yeah, he's six three two
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: thirty so he so the Navy kid is more like
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: lighter and quicker than that. Yeah.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Yeah, No, he's got like he's X receiver profile. But
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: he's lining up in the backfield and he stills to
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: learn how to play running back. But if you can
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: teach him how to hit a hole, and he's hitting
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: the hole at that size returns, yes, actually very good
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: kick returner.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: So this is Cordero Patterson, is what you're telling me.
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: Not as talented, obviously, you know it's.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: Not a boat.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: He ran a four or five forty. I'd like to
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: be a little faster, but like I you're you're in
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: the ballpark.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: Yeah, nailed it. Okay, I just watch him all right,
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: you won't. Well, so now you want Reggie Gilliam leading
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: the way on.
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: The kickoff return for Clemson running Randall Adam Randy.
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: That could be fun house calls. That could be pretty fun.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Solid it done, kickoff return a four or five shuttle. Okay,
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: that's that's okay for that size. Patty's an aquam. What's up, Patty?
- 1:16:15Speaker 13: Good afternoon, Jens.
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: What's up?
- 1:16:17Speaker 7: He so?
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:16:19Speaker 13: I'll go over a few things. First thing, real quick.
- 1:16:22Speaker 13: I love Akis. He has a wrestling background, so he
- 1:16:24Speaker 13: understands leverage and he knows how to throw his weight around.
- 1:16:27Speaker 13: I would love him. There's a few guys I love,
- 1:16:31Speaker 13: But just regarding free agency, I would I wouldn't mind
- 1:16:34Speaker 13: signing Chig Conquo because I think we're gonna need to
- 1:16:37Speaker 13: find a like that, that f type tight end to
- 1:16:39Speaker 13: replace Hunter Henry. Like you said, this is the last
- 1:16:43Speaker 13: year of his contract. Who knows if he ends up
- 1:16:45Speaker 13: coming back. Evan, I might be with you and Eldred,
- 1:16:49Speaker 13: I might be all in on just say and screw
- 1:16:51Speaker 13: it and take Brazil at thirty one because you need
- 1:16:55Speaker 13: that guy, you need that big, that big X receiver.
- 1:16:58Speaker 13: I'm with you, guys. I don't think Denzel Boston going
- 1:17:00Speaker 13: to be there, and I mean it from watching him,
- 1:17:04Speaker 13: like I took away a lot of stuff that you
- 1:17:06Speaker 13: said him. And he just seems to understand For a
- 1:17:08Speaker 13: guy that big and fast, he seems to understand route
- 1:17:11Speaker 13: spacing maybe better than a lot of these big receivers
- 1:17:14Speaker 13: that we see coming out. And he didn't have the
- 1:17:16Speaker 13: best quarterback playing Tennessee last year. And I'll end with
- 1:17:19Speaker 13: a question, Alex, I was in on Blake Miller last
- 1:17:23Speaker 13: year when I thought he was coming out, when he
- 1:17:24Speaker 13: was going to be like a day two pick. I
- 1:17:28Speaker 13: would love Blake Miller at thirty one. I don't think
- 1:17:31Speaker 13: he'll be there. But have you watched any of Austin Barber.
- 1:17:35Speaker 13: He played predominantly left tackle with Florida, but he's built
- 1:17:39Speaker 13: more like what we would what the Patriots would use,
- 1:17:42Speaker 13: like a right tackle. He's like six foot six, six
- 1:17:44Speaker 13: foot seven, like like three fifteen, three twenty. I just
- 1:17:49Speaker 13: want to know, if you've watched any of them, if
- 1:17:51Speaker 13: you think he could be like maybe a good project
- 1:17:54Speaker 13: guy like with like the round three pick or possibly
- 1:17:58Speaker 13: if he falls into the four and I'll take it
- 1:18:01Speaker 13: off their guys.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: Thanks pat thanks for the call. Any familiarity with Yeah,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: I mean he's in that. You know he is different
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: than Blake Miller, Like he's a day three. He's a
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: project guy like I've talked about Emil Wagner. He's kind
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: of around that range. I know, some people like kge
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: Casey from Boise State, A world from Morgan. He's one
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: of those tackles that's maybe too tall for his own
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: good mate's older. Yeah, so I mean looks as a date.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: I wouldn't take him in the third round.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: Is a day three picks? Is a developmental right tackle? Yeah? Sure,
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: throw him the mix. Yeah, I remember, and I'm sure
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: he won't mind me telling this.
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: I was talking to Sebastian Volmer, who does a lot
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: of work for our German side of things here now,
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: and it's cool. A couple of years ago we were
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: at the Combine and it was right before the Patriots
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: went to Germany in twenty three, I want to say,
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: so he was doing a lot of stuff with our
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: content team and I got a chance to kind of
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: just chat with him one night at dinner and he
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: mentioned that, you know, he was Volmer, I want to say,
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: was like six seven maybe six likes right, like good
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: height for a tackle, but not not yeah right, not
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: a skyscraper, right, And he said that like a guy,
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: like a guy like Nate Solder, he said, had a
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: harder time because he was so tall that like getting
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: down low in the stance and like really mirroring those
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: those edg rushers, like you can almost it can work
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: against you sometimes. I think certain guys it works for them,
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: Like I think Trent Brown's just massive size is the
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: reason why he is sticking around in the league. Like
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: I can't believe the Texans re upped him again. But
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: certain guys are too tall. That's a real thing. Let's
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: get back to the phones. David is in Fairfax. What's up, David, David,
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: he's still there.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: He was on hold for a while.
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: David callback in If you wanna, we can get you on.
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: Daniel is in California. What's up, Daniel?
- 1:19:57Speaker 10: Hey, So sorry, if you guys already talked about this,
- 1:20:02Speaker 10: I'm like just joining right now. But with the whole
- 1:20:06Speaker 10: Romeo Dobbs signing, I've just been like like on Twitter
- 1:20:09Speaker 10: and all that, just seeing a lot of like reports.
- 1:20:12Speaker 10: I think Karen was one of them, just saying that, like,
- 1:20:14Speaker 10: you know, this necessarily doesn't mean that we're out on
- 1:20:16Speaker 10: aj Brown. I understand like the whole June first situation,
- 1:20:21Speaker 10: and but my question is like, do you think this actually,
- 1:20:24Speaker 10: like is the Romeo Dobs thing? Does it give us
- 1:20:27Speaker 10: more leverage in these negotiations? And like as things stand
- 1:20:31Speaker 10: right now, if you have to like put money on it,
- 1:20:34Speaker 10: do you think AJ Brown will be an Eagle on
- 1:20:36Speaker 10: Opening Day? And I can just take it off.
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: There, I guess, Yeah, Daniel, thanks for the call. I
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: don't know if it gives them any more leverage. I
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: think the thet no, it makes them a little bit
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: less desperate.
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe, but.
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: AJ Brown's a really great player that's gonna have high
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: trade value, and it's gonna be it's gonna be a
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: substantial trade regardless. In my opinion, I bring up the
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: June first so often because to me, this is the
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: number one snag other than the fact that the Eagles
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: might not want to give away one of their best players,
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: you know, taking that whole thing of it out of it.
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: Let's just say, and I'm this is purely speculative, but
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: let's just say that the Eagles and the Patriots, the
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: Eagles are ready to trade AJ Brown. The Patriots are
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: ready to meet the asking price. They kind of have
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: like a framework of a night of a deal in mind.
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: But the snag is the contract like, and I think
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: that's really what it all boils down to, whether or
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: not this is going to happen or not. I'm pretty
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: sure I have the numbers right. If the Eagles trade
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: aj Brown pre June first, before June first, it is
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: a forty million dollar dead cap pit on their charge.
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: It's not that it's a forty million dollars dead cap hit.
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: It's forty million comes off their current cap space. It's
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: a dead it's a dead money charge which counts against
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: the cap in addition to what he already counts no
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: in total.
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: I thought it's okay, So his dead money would be
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: forty million dollars, which would count against their salary cap
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: this year. It would immediately hit the twenty twenty six
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: cap if they execute the cap.
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: Has it says seventy two million in dead money negative
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: forty nine million in cap savings.
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: Okay, so maybe it's the cap savings whatever. If they
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: do it post June one, they can split it over
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: two years. They can they can separate it over two seasons.
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: So it just it's all an accounting way of saying
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: that contract is easierly easier to trade after June first,
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: it's easier from an accounting perspective for the Eagles to
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: digest the contract if they trade him after June first.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: And it's extreme to the point based on the reporting
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: I saw that, like they really wouldn't have been able
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: to do free agency if they traded AJ Brown because
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: the salary implication.
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: Now they could there's always ways around it. They could
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: restructure contracts, they could advance salary, they could do all
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: the fancy things that teams do to circumvent that. But yes,
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: ultimately at the end of the day, you know, they
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: might not even assuming that they don't, they don't even
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: probably have enough cap space to do it, Like they'd
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: have to make another move to figure out the cap
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: space of it all to do it. So to me
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: and I get as a from a Patriots point of view,
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: the snag with it with AJ Brown is that that's very,
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: very difficult to just assume that AJ Brown is going
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: to be a Patriot June second, Like you can't just
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: put all your eggs in that basket.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: We just saw this, you know, to an extent with Max.
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: Crosby, like trades fall through, other teams jump in like
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: you might think you have a handshake agreement with Howie
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: Roseman and the Eagles. But when you know, the draft
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: passes and some team misses on their wide receiver target
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: in the draft, and now all of a sudden they
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: come back to revisiting the aj Brown thing, and here
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: we go, right, like now it's a higher asking price,
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: or you're in a bidding war or something like that.
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: It's very difficult to just put all your eggs in
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: that basket if you're the Patriots. But if you're the Eagles,
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: it's very difficult to trade him now. So this is
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: a trade that if it does go down, you would
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: think would probably go down sometime in August, like right
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: before training camp. Similar timing to like Micah Parsons right
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: last year with the Cowboys, which again is if you're
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: the Patriots, like, are you willing to roll the dice
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: that you might go into next season not well?
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: And also like that, if you're negotiating for the Patriots, now,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: the Eagles are losing leverage because he's worthless, having not
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: been having knocked gone through your offseason program, having not
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: had all that time to work with Drake May. Yeah,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: all that, you know, not being in your building. I'm
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: not giving up the same frager Brown in August that
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: I am in April. Absolutely not. Yeah, it's even June,
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: so you know when June, he's already gonna miss some time.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: He's gonna miss some of OTA's and mini camps usually
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: in mid June, so maybe if they got it done quick,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: he could be back for that. I wouldn't give up
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: a first form in August. Absolutely not.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: Yeah. Uh, it's it's tough. It's a tough trade.
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: I think that there's interest from both sides, both from
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: the Patriots side to trade for AJ Brown and the
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: Eagle side to move AJ Brown. But it's just an
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: accounting thing that I know is like kind of you know,
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: gives you a popsicle headache trying to think of all
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: the numbers and stuff like that. But it is what
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: it is, a couple of emails here that I wanted
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: to get to you that I thought were good. And
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: we'll keep on taking these phone calls, lots of phone
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: calls today. That's what it's an off season show.
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: This is what does for you.
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: So I wanted to read this email from Chris and
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: Main because I get this question a lot, or this
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: point made to me a lot about Kaishon Booty and
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: his role and his usage. Uh, there's a lot of
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: I get a lot of pushback, a lot of emails
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: about Kashan Booty being more of a Z receiver than
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: an X receiver. And I don't want to get too
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: bogged down in the Z slot of it all. But essentially,
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: what we're talking about is a guy that typically aligns
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: at X would be on the line of scrimmage on
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: the backside to the formation. A Z receiver is a
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: guy that's moving around, right, he's playing a little slot,
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: he's playing a little outside.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: He's kind of hybrid.
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: Yeah, he's playing off the line of scrimmage so that
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: he can move around the formation. The thing is about
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: that is that we're kind of going back, in my
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: opinion with Kaishan Booty to LSU Kishan Booty when we
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: say that, there's no doubt that early on in his career,
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: like his freshman breakout at LSU definitely profiled more as
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: like a power slot, like kind of not the same
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: but not as dissimilar as like an AJ Brown type,
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: right that was going to catch and run with the
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: football and be big.
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: And strong and all that.
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: After that year was Deebo Samuel.
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: Sure like something something like that. That's a true catch
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: and run artist. I don't see that kind of play
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: speed in Kishan Booty anymore post his you know, freak
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: ankle injury at LSU.
- 1:26:53Speaker 7: And so.
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: I hear this a lot that that's his natural position.
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: The Patriots have been playing Adam position, yadi YadA. The
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: other thing that I would go back to is and
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: maybe this is out of necessity, you can make that argument,
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: but in twenty twenty three, Bill O'Brien decided to develop
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: him as an ex and Bill Belichick in twenty twenty four,
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: Jirod Mayo and Alex van Pelt, which I know who
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: I'm talking about, but Rod Mayo and Alex van Pelt
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: played him at the X In twenty twenty five, Mike
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: Rabel and Josh McDaniels played him at the X. So
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: until an NFL coaching staff looks at Kaishan Boody and
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: tells me he's actually we actually see him more as
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: a hybrid player and more as a Z Yeah. I
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: just don't see that. I think his best trait right
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: now is winning the ball down the field. So is
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: he the kind of X receiver that you think they
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: want with Drake May long term NOU and that's not
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: a knock on Kaishan Boody no style.
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: I'm talking stylistic.
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: I think that there's a lot of too things that
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: I like about his game that fit with Drake May,
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: mostly the catch points stuff and his ability to win
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: the football, you know, use his frame and his size
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: to you know kind of you know, one, he kind
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: of does that like slingshot thing where he kind of
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: wins late on the with the ball in the air.
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: And then he also has a you know, good strong
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: hands at the catch point. You know, obviously we saw
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: the one handed catch against the Texans is just sick, right,
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: you know, he makes plays like that on the football.
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: But I think that ideally, I think ideally you.
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: Get a little bit more speed in that role, right,
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: like somebody that has a little bit more get up
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: and go in that type of role. I hear what
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: people are saying about that's what he looked like in college. Uh,
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: he certainly does not have the downfield like third level
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: burner speed that would suggest that he'd be a great
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: outside receiver. I just again, three different coaching staffs and
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: two or three no offense to AVP that I really
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: respect them as like offensive minds in Bill O'Brien and
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: Josh McDaniels telling me that this is where we're playing
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: him and right, So I just don't see that now.
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: The other part of it with Chris is in this
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: email well, as he mentions Kyle Williams as more of
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: like a Z receiver than the peer X. I can
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: get behind that one a little bit more because I
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: do think that he has like the twitch and the
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: suddenness as a separator, especially against man coverage, to be
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: able to maybe be a little bit better off inside
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: And he's not the biggest of guys right to be
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: playing on the boundary all the time. The issue with
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: him is rou conversions, like he's just not there yet
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: in terms of reading coverage and changing routes on the
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: fly to the point where he's going to be in
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: the right places all the time. And that's a big
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: part of playing inside in this offense. That's the part
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: of playing inside in this offense is can you read coverage?
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: Can you understand man versus his own? Can you understand
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: leverage where openings are? All those nuances are what made
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: the guys that have been great here in that role.
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: Great.
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: I don't know if that's Kyle Williams. I agree that
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: he moves more like that as an athlete. I just
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: don't know so if he's going to get there between
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: the ears to be able to play that kind of role.
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: The other names that they he mentioned were just you
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: know Iver, you know BTJ, which you know. I think
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: Schefter tried his best to pour cold water on that
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: rumor with him being available, Are you kind of taking
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: him at his word in terms of Schefter and say, if.
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: He's available, he traded thirty first pick for him. I
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: would do that today, but I don't think that never
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: made sense to me why he was available.
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: Uh so the news in the NFL, I guess we
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: should probably talk a little bit about this, just going
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: through some of these emails. The news in the NFL
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: the last twelve hours has been Max Crosby, and we
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: mentioned it a couple of times today, But this is
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: from David Maine. He just wants our take on it, like,
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: do we think Max Crosby really feeled his physical Do
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: we think that they you know, got cold feet? They
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: pivoted to Drey Henderson awfully quick. This one smells a
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: little bit, Alex, it does. It smells a little bit, uh,
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: not unprecedented, but uncommon, Like I think that's pretty fair
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: to say, like it doesn't happen every year, right, that's
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: something like this. What do you think happened with Max Crosby?
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you just look at how the timeline
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: kind of played out.
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: I'm certainly looks weird. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: Maybe they really were worried about his knee, but you
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: know it, it's really fascinating what's gonna happen with the
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: Raiders now because they made all these moves and they
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: spend a bunch of money not accounting for Max Crosby
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: on the bucks. Well, now Max Crosby's back on the books,
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: and they say that they're committed to paying all their
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: their free agents that they signed, and they're gonna keep Crosby.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: I don't know if they have the room to do that,
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: if they're gonna have to renegotiate contracts because they're gonna
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: have to trade somebody else. But you know, and then
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: you look at if if this does change the situation
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: for other players, does that open up opportunities for teams
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: around the league? Like this thing could be or we're
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: just getting started here. This thing could be a real mess.
- 1:31:58Speaker 3: Yeah, now it's It sounds like the Raiders have the
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: ability to go through with their free agent because they
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: have spent a crap ton of money in free agency.
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: They had like a Patriot level free agency and meaning
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: last year's Patriot free agency spending spree Tyler Linderbaum like massive,
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: massive contracts. It sounds like they're still able to make
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: that work financially for the time being. But that's thirty
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: million dollars in cap space they were planning on having,
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: and not just cap space but cap cash on hand. Yeah,
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: Like they weren't planning on paying Max Crosby, and now
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: they have to.
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: They have to.
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: I would think still facilitated trade, and not every team
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: is going to handle the injury the same, so some
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: teams will overlook it and say sure. I remember famously,
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: Bill Belichick's told the story about Randy Moss and that
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: trade a million times and how quickly that had to
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: come together and he had to pass his physical and
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: Bill Belichick was just like, yeah, he got him into
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: the room. Doctor. I said to the doctor, he's good, right.
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: The doctor said up and that was it, you know,
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: like so like there's different levels of physical This one, though,
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: to me, does smell a little bit like I think
- 1:33:04Speaker 3: Drey Hendrickson maybe the market kind of dwindled on him.
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: It got the number got lower and lower. They're like
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: instead of trading our two first round picks. Like, I
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: don't think Trey Henderson's as good as Max Crosby, but
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: is he like eighty five to ninety percent?
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: Also the irony of the back out of the Max
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Crosby deal because of the physical Yes, and now you
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: go sign a guy who's in his mid thirties, Yeah,
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: who's coming off a hip injury.
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: Yeah, to a four year deal.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: And I haven't seen the details on the contract. I
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: do this guaranteed money in all four years, but you're
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: not doing a four year deal with one year money guaranteed.
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: Yeah, So got a little bit of cold feet.
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: I was surprised they gave Hendrickson four years.
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: Yeah, me too.
- 1:33:46Speaker 3: This is from Rick in Riverside, Rhode Island. This is
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: a good question because you mentioned Blake Miller earlier as
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: kind of a luxury pick. If the Patriots get to
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: the draft and they might be in a position they
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: have eleven draft picks. All of those have a ton
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: of value. Let's be honest. For six round picks is
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: not going to get you much.
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: Yeah, but you can use me to help move up.
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: Is there world where you would trade up in the
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: first round? The target a player, and he asked if
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: you would, who would that player be? How high up
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: would you go?
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: Not high. I still don't want to see them. I
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: still want to see them make three top one hundred picks.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: And it's even fringy on that one at ninety six, right, So.
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: I feel like if you're trading up, you're giving up
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: something in twenty twenty seven to make it happen.
- 1:34:28Speaker 6: Mmmm.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: I don't love that anything because there I don't think
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: you have enough capital.
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: I mean, I guess you could trade like your first,
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: second and third round pick of this year's draft, but
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Like I really do the math.
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: I don't if you're going to move up, I'm assuming
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: we're not sorry to cut you off. I'm assuming we're
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: not talking about moving up three slots here.
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: Okay, So that's what I was going to say. I
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: go back to round or something.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: When the Patriots moved up or moved back for Gonzalez
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: in twenty three. It was a first in a fourth
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: to move up three spots. You know they have the
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: two fourths. Would I consider using one of them to
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: do something like that. I don't think that that's unfair.
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: That's probably as far as I go. Now, moving up
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: those three or four spots could matter, right if you're
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: in the market for a receiver. The Chiefs at twenty nine,
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: the Chiefs are now there are twenty nine that might
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: be a wide receiver team if you're in the market
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: for a tackle. The Niners at twenty seven, the Chiefs
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: at twenty nine, Like you might be trying to jump teams.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: You want to get really aggressive. The Bears are the
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: Bills at twenty six could be a receiver team. I
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: don't know that you're trading above twenty five. That's even
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: getting expensive. Again, it was a first in the fourth
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: to move up three spots. That that was fourteen to seventeen.
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: What is that You can pull up the trades tar
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: and tell you later in a round that's going to
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: move you a little further. But like in increment, that's
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: probably as much as I would do it first in
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: a fourth. Yeah, okay, so hang on a second, I
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: was thinking more, something bigger.
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: I'm out. I'm out on that. I was thinking save
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: the assets for next year. Two.
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: There's two guys I was thinking specifically, is one of
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: like a Jordan Tyson or Mkaya Lemon or Carnel Tape.
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: By the way, trading your first in your according to
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: the trade chart, you're first and your higher fourth. Yeah
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: gets you to twenty seven. Yeah, it gets you up
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: five spots. Well, it's not that jumping the chiefs for
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: receivers not nothing.
- 1:36:19Speaker 3: Wait, I know, but when we're talking about like trading
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: up in the draft, I thought we were talking about
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: like into a different tier of player.
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, yeah, I'd rather trade back.
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: Does one of those receivers have some weird fall? And
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: I know people are like that not gonna happen. Probably not,
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: But I don't know, Like justin Jefferson fell to like
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: twenty two, you know, Ceedee Lamb was like the eighteenth
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: pick in the draft or nineteen or whatever, Like, it's
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: not inconceivable.
- 1:36:47Speaker 14: Uh.
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: The other guy that I thought would be interesting just
- 1:36:50Speaker 3: to get your take on, like, would you do it
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: if Sadik were to slip a little bit?
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: You want my my take on Kenyon Cidek right now, Yes,
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: he's going to the Chiefs at nine. At nine, at nine,
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: that high? Doesn't it make all now that they have that,
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: because everybody at ear marked that spot for Jeremiah Love. Yeah,
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: they need a pass catcher. It's not especially if Tate
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: goes before them. Doesn't it kind of make a lot
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: of sense. He's gonna replace Travis Kelcey. We know Patrick
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: Mahomes like throwing to the tight end. It's a good
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: fit for the offense. He's a good fit from a
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: home skill set. I just think that makes a whole
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: lot of sense. Okay, I think he's going to the
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: Chiefs at nine. That's that's high. And I'll give you
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: another one now that they have their pick back. Yeah,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: the Ravens really need a tight end, Yeah they do.
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: They just lost and likely again another guy that's a
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: really good fit for the way. Well, I guess the
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: way they run their offense might change a little bit
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: new coaching staff, but like, no, you know, yeah, if
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: you're not.
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: Gonna if Amar is a pretty specific player and you're.
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: Not I like Jordan Tyson. Yeah, let's say Jordan or
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: McKay lemon, Right, and you like him, But when you
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: look at specifically what's needed in that offense, and maybe
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: you could argue more for m Kyle Lemon, but they
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: have Zay Flowers. Just who's gonna produce more net offense?
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: Who's gonna have more output in that offense? Jordan Tyson
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: or Kenyan Citek's dick. I mean, right, if there's one
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: throw that Lamar likes the most, it's the seam. He
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: loves throwing the seams. He loves throwing the middle of
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: the field. He's always been a between the numbers, uh,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: preferred between the numbers guy. That's why the Ravens have
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: always loaded up on tight ends, you know, That's why
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: they've been a tight I don't offense. Those are the
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: two spots I look at, and then you want to
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: throw in the Panthers really need. That's in nineteen The
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: Panthers really need tight end if he falls. But at
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: this point I think somebody maybe trades up. Yeah, you know,
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: even if you're giving up a lot, you're still probably
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: not getting above eighteen nineteen twenty.
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: The only reason why I brought it up is because
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: great athletic profile. Yeah, great ball of clay, great in theory,
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: great everything.
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: They're not gonna get high enough.
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: They're not gonna be able to.
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: Are you willing to sell his future for I'm just
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: saying his production is not first round caliber tight end.
- 1:38:58Speaker 3: And I know it's We've done this in the past
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: of that Oregon offense. It's a weird offense. You know,
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: it happens, right, like you know Justin Herbert did not
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: have it. You know, right, it happens, but it's from
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: a production profile. And I'm talking about statistically, Yeah, he
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: is not a first round caliber.
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: I will say this the last two years, Colston Lovelin
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: goes at ten, Tyler Warren goes at fourteen. Tyler Warren
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: definitely has a tremendous success. Yeah, brock Bauers at thirteen.
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: It's a copycat league. The trend is go get your
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: tight end.
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: And the first question was who would I would who
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: would I what would peak my interest in a trade up?
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: And those are the only kind of guys that are picking.
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: I just who's the first one? One of those were
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: three receivers, Tyson, Lemon, Tait or Steek. That's it. I
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: don't You're not gonna get high enough.
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: For all four of those guys are probably going top twenty.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: I get it.
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: You tell me one of those receivers is around twenty two,
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: twenty three, twenty four. I might start to get a
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: little aggressive.
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: I get it. I just don't.
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: I don't think that the difference between the player you're
- 1:39:56Speaker 3: gonna get it in a draft like this, the difference
- 1:39:58Speaker 3: between thirty one and twenty seve having a slim. Now,
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: if somebody says to you you're a player, someone's taking
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: your player right, then that's different.
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: That's the difference. I will I will add this to
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: to it.
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: If those receivers are starting to fall, yeah, doesn't that
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: probably mean Denzel Boston's going to be there?
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: But I think those guys are are in a different
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: tier than Denzel Boston. Fair enough, all right, let's get
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: back to the phones and we have some email, more
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: emails too that are good emails as well. William is
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: in Philly. What's up, William?
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: Hey?
- 1:40:25Speaker 10: What's going on over?
- 1:40:26Speaker 9: How are you doing good?
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: How are you all right?
- 1:40:29Speaker 6: Hey?
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: I'll tell you so.
- 1:40:31Speaker 13: Hey, what a well?
- 1:40:36Speaker 9: The prop from the last time I called Evan and
- 1:40:40Speaker 9: I was saying I was a little harsh basically towards
- 1:40:42Speaker 9: Alien Wolf, but the jurors did out. As far as
- 1:40:45Speaker 9: I'm concerned, it doesn't have so much to do with Bill.
- 1:40:49Speaker 9: It was just the fact when he drafted by you
- 1:40:52Speaker 9: got Drake made. We had Jail and Pope, we had
- 1:40:54Speaker 9: Shabon Baker tight end all those guards and whatnot. Nothing
- 1:40:57Speaker 9: pinned out but only Drake May. And I was wondering
- 1:41:00Speaker 9: about his his his weapons around. This is the pointing cast.
- 1:41:03Speaker 9: Like nothing out of that draft King, you know, other
- 1:41:06Speaker 9: than Drake May was was a hit base, you know
- 1:41:09Speaker 9: what I mean. So this is why we where we're
- 1:41:11Speaker 9: at now, basically, you know what I mean. And also
- 1:41:14Speaker 9: having what he was talking about, I mean, Alex when
- 1:41:16Speaker 9: you're talking about what's his name, A J.
- 1:41:20Speaker 6: Brown?
- 1:41:20Speaker 9: Yeah, I went, I went and overdo it though, But
- 1:41:23Speaker 9: it's this You're playing a waiting game here, and you know,
- 1:41:27Speaker 9: what's what's the backup plan?
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: You know what I mean.
- 1:41:30Speaker 9: Somebody can come in, yes, and that's all true, and
- 1:41:32Speaker 9: and give a first and that's that. So what do
- 1:41:36Speaker 9: you do after that? You I mean, yeah, what do
- 1:41:38Speaker 9: you go?
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: That's the Eagles leverage? Have a backup.
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: Thanks for the call, William. We're we're on the same
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: page now. Receiver, receiver receiver. They they need more playmakers now. Uh,
- 1:41:47Speaker 3: that's where they're at with AJ Brown. I think that's
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: a big reason why they just handed this contract with
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: Romeo Dobbs is they did not want to be stuck
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: in a position in Romeo Dobbs is an AJ Brown's caliber, but.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: At least not not worse at wide receiver. Thy world, Yeah, it.
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: Might be you have you have a competitive receiver room,
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: you know now with with Romeo Dobbs involved.
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: Jack is in New Hampshire. What's up Jack?
- 1:42:11Speaker 6: Hey, guys, thanks for dating McCall. I just wanted to
- 1:42:13Speaker 6: get your thoughts on a potential like cave On Thibodeau
- 1:42:16Speaker 6: or even Dre green Law since he just got released
- 1:42:19Speaker 6: from the Broncos, and what you guys think about that.
- 1:42:22Speaker 6: And I know you were just talking about a potential
- 1:42:24Speaker 6: fall for some of those top receivers and if you
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: think they even have a shot at a guy like
- 1:42:28Speaker 6: Jordan Tyson if he falls.
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: Thanks guys, Yeah, thanks Jack. No, they're not gonna have
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: a shot at Tyson.
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: I like Caleb.
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: It's an interesting one. I'm not against it. I would
- 1:42:40Speaker 3: rather was Greenard with the Vikings.
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd rather him, probably, but it might be it's
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: a trade.
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: It costs more. I mean, it's gonna cost more for
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: Jonathan green I like, I.
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: Think there's untapped potential with Thibodeaux anyway. He plays the
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: high motor, plays mean really athletic. I'd be I I
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: really liked them in the draft. Maybe I'm letting that
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: sku my opinion a little bit.
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: Now, but I think that that there's something there as well.
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: I think Greenard is a better player and you know,
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: a more approved, a little bit older.
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: I think it's like twenty eight.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: I want to say, we're already paying for potential instead
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: of production, Like that's kind of what they've been doing
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: the last couple of years.
- 1:43:17Speaker 3: Yeah, No, I'm not opposed to it. I mean, I
- 1:43:19Speaker 3: I think they're they're an edge short right now. I'm
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: all for, like, you know, edge can be a draft
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: thing like that. That's I'm okay with that. If that's
- 1:43:28Speaker 3: a position that they're really going to aggressively target in
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: the draft, I think they probably should anyways, Like.
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: You know, even if they added Thibodeau, we'd still be
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: talking about edge.
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think that you know, they are probably
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: one more like NFL caliber ed Dresher away because we
- 1:43:43Speaker 3: just really don't know about Harold Andrew right now and
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: what his longevity is going to look like and his availability.
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: So without that now, I think it's probably on a
- 1:43:52Speaker 3: little bit of a lower tax bracket than a Thibodeau
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: would be, or a green Art would be, would probably be.
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: You know, and I would be Ibikeetty.
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: Ebikeetty, I already say his name. You know, those types
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: of guys that are still kicking around are probably more
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: you know, kind of like what they did last year
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: with Chase on right. We're gonna sign this guy to
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: a one year deal. That's I think Ebikeetty was an
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: early second round pick, not a pure first round guy,
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: but a guy that has upside, it has talent, and
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: we're going to just see if we can get it
- 1:44:22Speaker 3: out of him for a year now. That probably makes
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: a little bit more sense than one of these big
- 1:44:25Speaker 3: splash moves. But I feel all that Matt is in
- 1:44:29Speaker 3: New Hampshire.
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: What's up Matt?
- 1:44:32Speaker 5: Hey, guys, can you hear me?
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: So quick question.
- 1:44:36Speaker 11: I didn't hear you mentioned him when you were talking
- 1:44:38Speaker 11: about pick thirty one earlier. I know we've been talking
- 1:44:40Speaker 11: about wide receivers a lot, but I am curious what
- 1:44:44Speaker 11: do you guys think of edge TJ. Parker at thirty one.
- 1:44:48Speaker 11: I know we're all talking about wide receiver and everything,
- 1:44:50Speaker 11: but in the event that that price does come down
- 1:44:53Speaker 11: on AJ Brown and we give up like this year
- 1:44:55Speaker 11: second and next year second and we still have this
- 1:44:57Speaker 11: year's first, I think TJ. Parker would be a great fit.
- 1:45:01Speaker 11: Seems like somebody Vrabel would like, somebody who can rehabilitate.
- 1:45:04Speaker 11: I know he didn't play at all in twenty twenty four,
- 1:45:06Speaker 11: but the previous season he had, he was looking like
- 1:45:09Speaker 11: a top ten pick. So I'm just curious to hear
- 1:45:11Speaker 11: you guys thoughts on that. Thanks again, Uh.
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks for the call, Matt. I you know, I
- 1:45:16Speaker 2: when I first watched TJ.
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: Parker, uh at Josher out of Clemson, it's definitely in
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: this cluster like he's in this thirty one.
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: So you did playing twenty four? Who did? Yeah Parker?
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: Oh okay, I love the college they didn't clear anyways.
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: Uh, when I first watched him, I I thought he
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: was a little bit stiffer than some of these other guys,
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: like word, I think both gravitating, but mes you know,
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: just talking about me specifically. You know, guys like Mesador,
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: guys like hash Is Howl that have a little bit
- 1:45:42Speaker 3: more bend, a little bit more exposiveness to him.
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: TJ.
- 1:45:46Speaker 3: Parker is more, in my opinion, like a power oriented player,
- 1:45:49Speaker 3: a little bit more physical at the point of attack.
- 1:45:52Speaker 3: Kind of wins with power, wins with bull rush, sets
- 1:45:54Speaker 3: the edge, like that sort of thing.
- 1:45:57Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: But I don't I think that he's right there in
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: this group, and if like that's the one that they picked,
- 1:46:02Speaker 3: that wouldn't be like, you know, blown away, like it
- 1:46:05Speaker 3: would make sense in that range of the draft. And
- 1:46:08Speaker 3: you know, maybe if they see it or the league
- 1:46:10Speaker 3: sees it the same way I do. You know, I
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: think guys like Mesidor and Hall have a little bit
- 1:46:14Speaker 3: more pass rush upside because they're a little bit looser,
- 1:46:17Speaker 3: They're a little bit more fluid with their movements, which
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: tends to lend itself a little bit more uh to
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: pass rush abilities. So maybe that's that the league looks
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: at it that way.
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: And TJ.
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: Parker is the one that's you know, when the musical
- 1:46:28Speaker 3: chair stopped in the first round with this edge rusher
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: class that's so stacked, like maybe he's the one that's
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: still on the board at thirty one instead of those
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: other guys.
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: What do you do you like Parker?
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm kind of with you, Like I don't think
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: he's at the top of my list for thirty one,
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: but he's a solid player. He's one of these guys
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: that what do you believe more that he's the player
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: he was in twenty twenty four? Yeah, it was a
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: unquestionable first round pick or you know, and then he
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: took a step back in twenty five? Was that just
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: because Clemson took a step back and he got dragged
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: down by the program?
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: Or was twenty four and anomaly? Yea?
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: And he maybe punched above his weight. So I really
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: liked what he did in twenty four. I think he
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: got dragged down by the Clemson program a little bit.
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: So That's where I'm at. So yeah, I mean he'd
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: be legit.
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: Ad you hate that Clemson program. They were not good
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: last year. You just hate it. No, No, it's just
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: personal for you. You don't I do.
- 1:47:15Speaker 6: It is true.
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: I do not like Clem, but I like you Clemson
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: guys in the draft and then went seven and six.
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: You know, you hate Davos Sweeney though, just admit it.
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: I'm not a fan of Clemson, not one of the teams.
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: I generally said, that's.
- 1:47:26Speaker 3: Such a diplomatic way of saying, you really don't like
- 1:47:29Speaker 3: but they were not good last year.
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: Okay, fair enough. A couple of the same thing happened
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: with the Penn State guys, that's true.
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: Uh, a couple more emails here and then we can
- 1:47:39Speaker 3: wrap it up maybe with you know, a couple more
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: things on free agency. But uh, there's you know, some
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: people that mentioned Chris Alave's name. I know that name
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: has been kicking around. I think Romeo Dobbs and him
- 1:47:50Speaker 3: are a little bit redundant at this point.
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: I would have liked Chris A.
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: Lave though, Like I thought that that was a viable suggestion,
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: you know, and I know New Orleans is kind of
- 1:47:59Speaker 3: in this second year with a new head coach and
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: sort of trying to change the complexion of the thing
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: down there. You know, this emailer sends out, you know,
- 1:48:08Speaker 3: Chris Alave, Brian Thomas Junior, Jordan Addison. Jordan Addison like
- 1:48:14Speaker 3: always seems to get his name involved in these things
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: because he's the other guy to Justin Jefferson in Minnesota.
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: I don't know if that's any there's any real credence
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: to that. It just always seems to happen.
- 1:48:25Speaker 2: At this point. I'm not sure if.
- 1:48:28Speaker 3: Those guys are really are really it Like, I would
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: have really liked the Lave before the Romeo Dobbs signing,
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: but now I feel like they kind of don't need
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: that type of player.
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: Yeah, some Oscar delt fans. Yeah.
- 1:48:42Speaker 11: In there.
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: Here's a question from Craig in Vegas.
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: A couple of different like kind of scenarios here looking
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: at the people we signed, especially with Dobbs, do you
- 1:48:51Speaker 3: think Casey Concepcion is now completely out and are we
- 1:48:54Speaker 3: looking for more of Denzel Boston type at thirty one?
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: I personally do I have.
- 1:48:59Speaker 3: That's not inside information at whatsoever, but I think we're
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: kind of, you know, they kind of filled the Z
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: slot role in my opinion with Romeo Dobbs. I think
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: that's the role he's going to play, and they just
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: gave him a decent amount of money to do it.
- 1:49:14Speaker 3: So I think that that's kind of tied up there
- 1:49:16Speaker 3: right now. In Romeo Dobbs, to me, they need an
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: outside guy for Drake May. And I know that people
- 1:49:22Speaker 3: like Keyshawan Boody mac Collins did a decent job with
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: the opportunities that he got playing that role. But a
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: true bona fide like field stretching X receiver that Drake
- 1:49:32Speaker 3: May can throw deep bombs to all the time, that
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: that's the guy that I'm looking for. I don't know
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: if that's Denzel Boston, but I don't think that that's
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: like Omar Cooper Junior or Casey conception.
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: I also don't think Casey's going to be there for them,
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: But yeah, I know we're looking at the big outside
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: guys at this point.
- 1:49:47Speaker 2: Yep agreed on Max Crosby. Let's just it's just us.
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: Not do we think the Patriots would do anything with
- 1:49:55Speaker 2: Max Crosby, Because I think the answer to that is
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: probably no. Yeah, but just us. Would you re engage
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: with the Raiders on Max Crosby?
- 1:50:03Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:50:03Speaker 3: He throws out a first and a third to the
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: Raiders because it's a little bit lower than you know,
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: what they would have gotten.
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: I'm not a doctor. I'd have to see the medicals.
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: I don't know, like how how bad is his knee?
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not.
- 1:50:17Speaker 3: Giving just assume that that the knee would pass, they
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: pass or is it like that It's like the Randy
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: Moss thing, like he's fine, if he's fine.
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I would do that.
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I would do that. I think I would probably
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: do it too. But they're not going to No, I
- 1:50:33Speaker 2: don't think.
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: This is a question from Uh Linda and Georgia UH
- 1:50:38Speaker 3: asks if we know if Elijah Vera Tucker's games were
- 1:50:42Speaker 3: injuries happened in home games?
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: This is an interesting question, Linda. Now only one of
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: them is his lower body.
- 1:50:48Speaker 3: So I'm right, should you take out For those people
- 1:50:51Speaker 3: that don't know, I should probably explain the MetLife Stadium turf,
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: where the Jets obviously played their home games, is notoriously
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: awful playing service.
- 1:51:00Speaker 2: Oh that has claimed many injuries. I don't know. I
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: want to say twenty three. Yeah, I want to say
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: twenty three. I don't know.
- 1:51:09Speaker 3: But his other question, his other injuries have been upper
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: body like torn trisaps, pecs like things like and that
- 1:51:16Speaker 3: was at.
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: Denver So and that's a I think I'm considered a
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: pretty good surface. Yeah, Mike Evan's going to play by
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: the substation.
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: Yeah, not good.
- 1:51:24Speaker 3: Not good for Mike no, that's a good signing. It
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: kind of reminds me it's not quite I don't think
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: he's quite as uh as good anymore as like DeVante
- 1:51:33Speaker 3: Adams is for DeVante Adams.
- 1:51:35Speaker 2: But like it kind of reminds him that, yeah, you
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: know that.
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: I think those offenses they're so system based and getting
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: catch and run and blocking receivers guys like Pukakua, Cooper
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: Cup like players like that. But then they kind of
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: got into this world where like they needed a man beater,
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: like he just needed somebody that could get open and
- 1:51:52Speaker 3: make tough catches against man coverage.
- 1:51:55Speaker 13: And uh, the.
- 1:51:57Speaker 3: The Rams went out and signed DeVante Adams and and
- 1:52:00Speaker 3: that happened, and I think the forty nine ers kind
- 1:52:02Speaker 3: of saw that and were like, we need our DeVante Adams.
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: And that's my gut.
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: I will say, though I saw a graphic. I don't
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: know if he's officially gotten his number yet where they
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: had him wearing number four.
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: The aesthetics terrible.
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: If he's wearing a single digit number in San Francisco,
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: it's going to be a bust. I get he's thirteen's taken.
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: I get that, but you got to get him a
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: real number.
- 1:52:18Speaker 3: Okay, what number is Romeo Dob's wearing. It's a good
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: question because I I don't know it. It's been in question.
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: Eighty seven has been in circulation before.
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: Yeah, but not as in a game. Trey Nixon was
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: wearing it right, right, but he's playing which tight end?
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: Was it so cool?
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: Lacosts one of those titles, one of those tight ends
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: wore eighty seven at one point.
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: I would say, though that.
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Not that it was ever like I miss wide receivers
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: wearing numbers in the eighties. I'd be all for him
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: keeping number in the eighty.
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: It's not that the the uh, that it was ever
- 1:52:51Speaker 3: terrible relationship between the Patriots organization and Rob Gronkowski, but
- 1:52:55Speaker 3: in recent years that relationship has definitely.
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: Tremendous nice.
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: And so now that Rob Gromkowski had his retirement ceremony
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: as a Patriot here last year, he lives locally, he's
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: in the community a lot. He's more patriot than he's
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: ever been post playing career. I would say, I think
- 1:53:18Speaker 3: maybe it's a different story now at eighty seven.
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: So he wore he wore four in high school, so
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: maybe he goes back to it's available. He wore seven
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: in college. That is Carlton Davis.
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: Yes, four might be available.
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: Don't want him taking seventeen.
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: No, we got to tell him about that. We do
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: need to tell him if I see him tomorrow. I'm
- 1:53:38Speaker 2: gonna be like Romeo.
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: None of the open numbers right now.
- 1:53:40Speaker 2: I think four is a good one. That's his high
- 1:53:42Speaker 2: school number. He said four would be a good one,
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: and at least one of his I just was Antonio Gibson,
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: who is no longer on the team.
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: I just looked up Romeo Dobbs high school and there's
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: a I don't know if this was like his whole
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: career in high school, but there's pictures of him wearing four.
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: So okay, four, I want to Nobody wears numbers in
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: the eighties anymore. Miss Wider's were numbers in the Yeah,
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: I mean an eighties number, and it's tough, bro Like, okay,
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: I know guys don't like it. I especially certain numbers
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: eighty eighty one, eighty five, eighty eight, like those still hit.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: I know people say doesn't have like or or whatever.
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: But what is available in the eighties right now? Eighty
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: eighty one, eighty three, eighty four, eighty seven, eighty eight.
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: See him an eighty eighty slot wide receiver were in
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: eighty for the Patriots?
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: That works?
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: Or eighty three the Welcher number.
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that would play, okay, but not at any seven.
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: Not any seven.
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: I don't know if we need to retire eighty seven,
- 1:54:37Speaker 3: but it needs to be real hired like Andre tippers
- 1:54:40Speaker 3: Soft retire.
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I could play though. Here's the better question. Okay,
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: what number is Reggie Gilliam gonna wear? The first two
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: guys the Patriots signed both wore forty one.
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: Last year, which is obviously taken. Yeah. I do kind
- 1:54:51Speaker 2: of like a low forty number for a full back.
- 1:54:53Speaker 2: Forty four. Yeah, it's a good it's a good fold.
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: I don't believe that's taken right now.
- 1:54:57Speaker 6: It is not.
- 1:54:58Speaker 3: Here's a one more question. We got one called then
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: we got to wrap it up. Uh, Anthony, Oh no.
- 1:55:03Speaker 3: It was chased on emails in and says, if the
- 1:55:06Speaker 3: Patriots do trade for a J Brown or drafting their
- 1:55:10Speaker 3: wide receiver, who is currently.
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: The odd man out on the roster. It's a good question. Uh,
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: there would be too many, right, you know?
- 1:55:17Speaker 3: So you have Dobbs, Matt Collins, Kyle Williams, Kishon Boody
- 1:55:22Speaker 3: Tomorrow Douglass ef chism right now. Yeah, So if you
- 1:55:25Speaker 3: add another in the draft or uh via trade, and
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: I think that that's all they would do.
- 1:55:29Speaker 2: I don't think you're adding two more no, I mean,
- 1:55:32Speaker 2: like obviously.
- 1:55:33Speaker 3: An underven rookie whatever, Yeah, but another guy that's gonna
- 1:55:36Speaker 3: take up a roster's boy, you're at seven sevens too many.
- 1:55:39Speaker 3: A lot of teams carry six now, so six is doable.
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: But somebody's got to be the odd man out. I
- 1:55:43Speaker 3: think if you're looking purely at who would be the
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: odd man out because of just fit and all that,
- 1:55:49Speaker 3: it's probably Pop Douglas. I would think, just in terms
- 1:55:53Speaker 3: of usage last year fit with Drake may that sort
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: of thing. But if they were to acquire let's say
- 1:56:00Speaker 3: it's a J Brown, like that's kind of Kishon Boody's
- 1:56:03Speaker 3: role right like that.
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: I also, you know, a lot of the reporting has
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: been the Eagles want to play her back, so that would.
- 1:56:11Speaker 2: Keep bringing that up and a lot of no inside information, but.
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: No, it would make a lot of sense that Kaishan
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: Boody goes back to Philly and then yeah, yeah, like
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: it's a it's a functional X receiver for the Eagles
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: to replace a j. Brown rather have a third round
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: picker kash On Body. I would rather have Kashan, but
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. If it's safe the pick and
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: you're gonna have to move on from a receiver anyway.
- 1:56:31Speaker 3: I don't know if Howie Rosmond would though Howy Resmond
- 1:56:33Speaker 3: loves his picks, but I personally think I would because
- 1:56:37Speaker 3: that gives you a viable player to play in twenty
- 1:56:40Speaker 3: twenty six for the Philadelphia Eagle.
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: Right, And if you're doing it after the draft, you're
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: not gonna have a chance to replace right Brown.
- 1:56:45Speaker 3: So all right, last call here. James is in North Carolina.
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: What's up? James?
- 1:56:51Speaker 4: Hey, guys, how you doing good?
- 1:56:54Speaker 13: All right?
- 1:56:55Speaker 4: I just wanted to make sure you could hear me.
- 1:56:57Speaker 4: So I don't think enough it's being said about movement
- 1:57:03Speaker 4: in the draft up or down. You don't want to
- 1:57:07Speaker 4: take Brazls at thirty one, you don't think you don't
- 1:57:10Speaker 4: think he'll be there at sixty three.
- 1:57:13Speaker 8: Where do you think.
- 1:57:16Speaker 4: Is a sweet spot to try and move to grab
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: them before the next person that might want them? And
- 1:57:26Speaker 4: is there anybody worth actually moving up for the spot
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: that we're trying to fill and I'll take it off
- 1:57:33Speaker 4: the air.
- 1:57:33Speaker 3: Okay, thanks James, Right, we just ended up move up thing. Yeah,
- 1:57:38Speaker 3: the move back thing is also in play. Like I
- 1:57:41Speaker 3: know who people hate when they do that, but we're talking.
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: It makes sense to do it this year.
- 1:57:45Speaker 3: Yeah, and we're talking about guys like brasl maybe an
- 1:57:49Speaker 3: edge rusher. That's kind of you know, I think you're
- 1:57:51Speaker 3: looking at whatever way you want to call let's call
- 1:57:54Speaker 3: it tier two just for the sake of the argument.
- 1:57:55Speaker 3: If you're looking at edgeresher and you're kind of stuck
- 1:57:59Speaker 3: between tiers two and tier three of the edgeresher runs
- 1:58:03Speaker 3: tackle like if that's you know, an area that you
- 1:58:05Speaker 3: want to address early, it does feel like it could
- 1:58:08Speaker 3: be like a sneaky year for that, Like if you
- 1:58:10Speaker 3: are able to And I know this drives people nuts,
- 1:58:13Speaker 3: so I apologize, but this is this show. If you
- 1:58:16Speaker 3: were able to take go from thirty one to let's
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: say forty, right, and then you get extra capital back
- 1:58:24Speaker 3: for that in subcapacity, and then you take a guy
- 1:58:27Speaker 3: like Chris Brasel at forty instead of taking him at
- 1:58:29Speaker 3: thirty one, that makes a lot of sense in a
- 1:58:31Speaker 3: class like this.
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: So looking at the top half of the second round Jets, Cardinals, Titans, Raiders, Giants, Texans, Chiefs,
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: Texas Browns. Chiefs gets you to forty, right, So you
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: know how many of those teams are going to be
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: in the market for a guy like Chris Brasel A
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: couple of them? Who's Tennessee's ex ert tennesseeo X.
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: I don't know off the top of my head. You know,
- 1:58:55Speaker 2: Chamari DK's you know, like a slot.
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: Tennessee could be one. Becas's dog Kevin.
- 1:59:00Speaker 3: Billy is still there technically right, Yeah, yeah, But I
- 1:59:03Speaker 3: mean so you know, maybe the Jets, I don't think
- 1:59:05Speaker 3: they're gonna wide receiver that high.
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: The Cardinals probably aren't in that market. The Raiders have
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: Dante Thornton already, have you know this kind of player? Yeah,
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: the Giants maybe, depending on where the leak neighbors is at. Yeah,
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: but are you gonna see that much better you're gonna
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: use the thirty sixth pick on them?
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: Probably not?
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: But you know, the Giants maybe, depending on where Neighbors
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: is at. The Texans probably not. They're pretty good wide receiver.
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: The Browns maybe, So I don't know, maybe Tennessee's the
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: team you swap with. You go from thirty one to
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: thirty five, and that probably earns you a third or
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: fourth round pick.
- 1:59:40Speaker 2: Yeah, Like Cleveland makes sense just because you know they
- 1:59:44Speaker 2: need everything. They need everything.
- 1:59:45Speaker 3: They need receivers definitely, Yeah, And are they going receiver
- 1:59:49Speaker 3: in the first round.
- 1:59:51Speaker 2: If they don't, then they might.
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: Be have Aomnor. Yeah, they're so they're wide receivers right now?
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: Are Aoman or Van Jefferson, Calvin Ridley, James Proche They
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: added Wandale Robinson, right, Samari d Kay.
- 2:00:05Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, I'm not moved by that room though, Like
- 2:00:09Speaker 3: if you're trying to really make cam Ward happen and
- 2:00:11Speaker 3: like really load that up.
- 2:00:13Speaker 2: All right, so maybe maybe you trade with the Titans.
- 2:00:16Speaker 3: You let them go up in Browns always doing dumb stuff.
- 2:00:19Speaker 3: So all right, that's gonna do it for today's show.
- 2:00:23Speaker 3: A good episode.
- 2:00:24Speaker 2: Have two first round picks, so they're probably not trading
- 2:00:26Speaker 2: up in the first Oh that's true.
- 2:00:27Speaker 3: Yeah, good episode. Free agency draft, that's right in our wheelhouse.
- 2:00:32Speaker 3: We will be back next week, same time, same place. Really,
- 2:00:37Speaker 3: at that point we'll probably have the fallout of all
- 2:00:39Speaker 3: this free agency stuff and can really start to reset
- 2:00:42Speaker 3: the board in terms of the draft.
- 2:00:43Speaker 2: And look ahead to that.
- 2:00:45Speaker 3: Like I said, we'll have one o'clock ish tomorrow, we'll
- 2:00:49Speaker 3: have some free agency introductions from the Patriots. We're expecting
- 2:00:52Speaker 3: to hear from Elliott Wolf. Patriots Unfiltered will be at
- 2:00:56Speaker 3: noon tomorrow as well during all that chaos, so that'll
- 2:00:59Speaker 3: be fun. So we'll definitely have you covered on that.
- 2:01:02Speaker 3: Both Alex and I will have you covered tomorrow too
- 2:01:05Speaker 3: for that introduction, but for Catch twenty two, I'll be
- 2:01:09Speaker 3: back next Wednesday at noon.
- 2:01:11Speaker 2: We'll see you guys then. Thanks for watching, Bye bye.
- 2:01:17Speaker 14: Hey, this is Matist. Thanks for tuning into the show.
