- 1:46So again, it is great to be with

- 1:47So without any further ado, let's kick this
- 1:50show off.
- 1:51Well, if you didn't know, this is Inspirations
- 1:52for Your Life.
- 1:54Our topic for the week of Inspirations for
- 1:57Your Life is a really good one.
- 1:59And so let me refresh you on what
- 2:01that topic is in case maybe you don't
- 2:03know what that topic is.
- 2:05So I'm here to, I guess, enlighten you.
- 2:07That topic is, gentlemen, for the week, which
- 2:10starts on Saturday, ends on Friday.
- 2:12And that is How Focus Shapes Daily Performance
- 2:15Series 5, show number 21, episode, yes, this
- 2:21is episode number, I think there's a second,
- 2:27episode number five, number five, all right?
- 2:35So ladies and gentlemen, I am John Seymour,
- 2:38a serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:41podcast host, coach, of course, keynote speaker, graduate
- 2:47student, a passionate lifelong learner, and now very
- 2:52grateful to be a published author.
- 2:54Yes.
- 2:55That's pretty moving, I have to tell you.
- 2:57First time I actually signed some books for
- 2:59some friends and family, that was really a
- 3:01movie experience.
- 3:01So our title today is How Focus Shapes
- 3:04Daily Performance.
- 3:06And this episode of Inspirations for Your Life
- 3:08is about your life exploring how focus directly
- 3:11shapes clarity, execution, energy, and real-world performance.
- 3:16So when attention is stable, everything becomes easier.
- 3:20When attention is scattered, everything becomes harder.
- 3:23This show breaks down how focus controls output
- 3:26in real-time daily life, yes.
- 3:30So, yes, I want to say welcome to
- 3:32you one more time to the show, it's
- 3:34great to have everyone here.
- 3:36Today, I'm focusing on something simple, but very
- 3:39powerful.
- 3:40Your attention is not just awareness, guys, it
- 3:42is the control system behind your performance, your
- 3:45energy, and your results.
- 3:47Where attention goes, everything follows.
- 3:51Let's break it down, shall we?
- 3:52Sure.
- 3:53So first thing I want to talk about
- 3:58is this, and it's important.
- 4:00Number one is focus.
- 4:02This determines how clearly you think.
- 4:05Clear thinking produces stronger decisions and better outcomes.
- 4:09That's the truth, guys.
- 4:11Number two, attention controls the quality of execution.
- 4:16Strong focus reduces errors and increases precision.
- 4:19We've said that before.
- 4:21But I want you to understand it, and
- 4:22I want you to know it, because that
- 4:24is the key, guys, to what makes things
- 4:26become better in your life, all right?
- 4:30I think that's a very, very important thing
- 4:34that a lot of people, like I said,
- 4:35don't really understand, but it is really important
- 4:38that you understand it, because this makes the
- 4:41difference for your life, all right?
- 4:43So number three, energy follows attention direction.
- 4:47Where your focus is, where your mental power
- 4:50is spent, distraction reduces performance instantly.
- 4:54Every interruption breaks momentum and clarity, whether it's
- 4:56a click, whether it's a sound, whether it's
- 4:58a yell, whether it's a tap on the
- 4:59shoulder, it breaks it.
- 5:02And that's something, I think, that scares a
- 5:03lot of people, you know, that that actually
- 5:06happens, you know, that that actually happens, that
- 5:11it breaks that.
- 5:13And so when we think about how this
- 5:17works, OK, we think about the fact about
- 5:20energy flowing and your mental power, right?
- 5:26Single focus improves speed and accuracy.
- 5:31One task at a time will create stronger
- 5:35results.
- 5:39Multitasking, which so many companies think they're being
- 5:41geniuses at by having you do so many
- 5:43things at once, you're actually producing less results
- 5:46and a lower quality.
- 5:48Multitasking reduces overall efficiency and the quality of
- 5:52it.
- 5:53The brain loses time switching between inputs.
- 5:55We've said this before.
- 5:58Clarity improves decision-making.
- 6:00Better focus removes hesitation and confusion.
- 6:04Mental noise slows down execution to many thoughts,
- 6:08reducing action speed.
- 6:10Number nine, focus stability improves workflow.
- 6:14Workflow becomes smoother and more predictable.
- 6:18Number 10, attention drifts lower and so does
- 6:23the productivity.
- 6:25Losing focus reduces output without noticing it.
- 6:30Structured focus improves the consistency.
- 6:32Repeat attention builds reliable performance.
- 6:35Execution reflects attention quality.
- 6:39Quality.
- 6:40Your output mirrors your focus, habits, and your
- 6:45life.
- 6:47Poor focus creates unfinished work.
- 6:50Tasks remain open longer than necessary and more
- 6:53frustration just seems to build.
- 6:56But strong focus reduces mistakes.
- 6:59Stable attention improves accuracy.
- 7:03And when we can improve accuracy, guys, we
- 7:07can create some amazing things.
- 7:10We can do some amazing stuff together.
- 7:12And I think that's a very, very important
- 7:15thing to understand for everyone.
- 7:18Very important thing.
- 7:19Number 15, guys, attention improves problem solving.
- 7:25Yeah.
- 7:27Attention improves problem solving.
- 7:30I think that's another one that I think
- 7:32a lot of people don't realize that they
- 7:34have that power right in their own pocket.
- 7:38I don't think they realize it.
- 7:42I don't think they know that that actually
- 7:44happens, but it does.
- 7:47It happens every single day, guys, every single
- 7:51day, every single day.
- 7:58That's pretty powerful, guys.
- 8:01Pretty powerful.
- 8:04Pretty powerful.
- 8:06All right.
- 8:06Let's move on to the next point.
- 8:08When thinking about this, you want to be
- 8:10having clear focus and revealing better solutions faster.
- 8:13But then I want to talk to you
- 8:14about distraction.
- 8:15So distraction, number 16, creates hidden fatigue.
- 8:18It does.
- 8:19Doesn't matter whether it's heavy distraction or whether
- 8:21it's light distraction, it still interrupts you and
- 8:25it causes you to switch.
- 8:26Mental exhaustion increases without progress.
- 8:30Number 17, focus improves energy efficiency.
- 8:34Less wasted attention all the time.
- 8:37Preserves your stamina, your energy, and gives you
- 8:43better quality in everything you do.
- 8:48That's important, guys.
- 8:50Number 18, stable attention improves speed.
- 8:54Less switching means faster completion.
- 8:58Every time we have to get acclimated to
- 9:01something, we have to switch.
- 9:02We have to adjust to it.
- 9:04And there's a slowdown in that process, guys.
- 9:07There is a big slowdown every time we
- 9:09have to readjust.
- 9:11Number 19, guys, clarity improves execution and the
- 9:16quality.
- 9:17See, clear thinking leads to better action taking.
- 9:22A lot of people I know want to
- 9:24jump to that action because they think they
- 9:26can immediately.
- 9:27But you know the truth of the matter
- 9:28is they can do it, but they do
- 9:30it in a matter without thinking.
- 9:51So now you're wondering, like, why are you
- 9:54suddenly going this way or going that way?
- 9:57Right?
- 9:59Why are you suddenly going that way?
- 10:04And I think it happens to us almost
- 10:09as an awareness.
- 10:16That awareness causes us to be pretty amazing.
- 10:23Okay?
- 10:24And that awareness gets us to change where
- 10:28we are right now.
- 10:32Where we're at right now.
- 10:39Where we're at right now.
- 10:43And I want to say to you, it's
- 10:47important to know why.
- 10:52And the why may not always be apparent.
- 10:59It might not always be apparent.
- 11:02And I think that happens because many people,
- 11:06okay, don't understand what they're doing.
- 11:11Not that they can't learn.
- 11:13Not that they can't learn.
- 11:18But they don't understand what's happening.
- 11:26They don't understand what it means.
- 11:29Okay?
- 11:32And if we can just understand that, then
- 11:36maybe it's important to know about it.
- 11:42Maybe.
- 11:44But maybe the biggest thing I can say
- 11:47to you is that where you are right
- 11:48now is the place you're supposed to be.
- 11:51Because you've arrived there based on the choices
- 11:56that you've taken in the past.
- 11:59Now these choices might not have all been
- 12:00good choices.
- 12:02Some good.
- 12:03Some might have been not so great.
- 12:06But the long and the short of it
- 12:07is that you arrived where you are right
- 12:10now.
- 12:10And you deserve a pat on your back.
- 12:11You've gone through a lot.
- 12:14And you're here.
- 12:15You are still here.
- 12:20You are still here.
- 12:25That's important, guys.
- 12:28The fact that you're still here.
- 12:30The fact that you're still going.
- 12:31The fact that you're still excited about things.
- 12:34That is what gets you to go further
- 12:36in life.
- 12:39We talk a lot about awareness.
- 12:40We talk a lot about quality.
- 12:42We talk a lot about not multitasking.
- 12:46I think everybody thinks by multitasking you're going
- 12:48to become more successful.
- 12:49You're going to become more tired.
- 12:52And more disgusted.
- 12:57Because you can't get where you want to
- 13:00be.
- 13:02All because somebody sold you a dream and
- 13:04said the only way you're going to get
- 13:05there is to multitask.
- 13:07Working harder and doing more is not the
- 13:12key to success.
- 13:13Working smarter, but being more present.
- 13:26Being more present.
- 13:29And when you're more present, things can change.
- 13:36In your life.
- 13:40And I think that's something that a lot
- 13:42of people don't know.
- 13:45Not because they don't want to.
- 13:47But because they're just simply not aware of
- 13:50it.
- 13:52They're not aware of what it is.
- 13:56They're not aware of potential.
- 13:58They're not aware of the challenges.
- 14:01They're not aware of why they didn't get
- 14:04where they wanted to go.
- 14:06Look at the data, guys.
- 14:20Look at that data.
- 14:21The data makes a big difference.
- 14:25Okay?
- 14:29The data makes a big difference.
- 14:37And when we can make some changes based
- 14:41on the data that we have learned.
- 14:43And that we're continuing to learn.
- 14:46Our life grows.
- 14:49Our life takes different steps.
- 14:54Steps that maybe we didn't think we could
- 14:57take before.
- 15:01But now suddenly we get confidence to take
- 15:03these steps.
- 15:08And these steps, like I said, are a
- 15:09little bit scary.
- 15:11Okay?
- 15:15But the key, guys, is to understand where
- 15:18you are right now in your life.
- 15:20Where were you yesterday?
- 15:22Last week?
- 15:24Look at how far you have come.
- 15:29And that's not something I share with you
- 15:30lightly.
- 15:33I'm not sharing that so you can give
- 15:35yourself a pat on the back.
- 15:36I'm giving you that because I want you
- 15:37to understand that there is true potential in
- 15:40you.
- 15:41Only when you become present.
- 15:46When you become aware of the people, things,
- 15:50and places going on in your life right
- 15:52now.
- 15:56When we think about our life.
- 16:01When we think about focus.
- 16:03So many people I know are like, oh
- 16:05my gosh, I'm getting such a headache.
- 16:06I'm thinking so hard.
- 16:07I'm getting a headache.
- 16:09That's not the kind of focus you need.
- 16:11Focus should be done in a very light
- 16:13and playful way while maintaining attention.
- 16:17This attention should not be attention that's going
- 16:20to give you a headache.
- 16:21Or it's going to, you know, make you
- 16:23feel uneasy.
- 16:26That's not what I mean by attention.
- 16:28Attention just means that you are consistently giving
- 16:31one thing your thought.
- 16:34A person your thought.
- 16:36And when you're finished with that, you move
- 16:39on to the next thing.
- 16:39And then you give that your thought or
- 16:41thoughts.
- 16:43Too many people try to be here.
- 16:45They try to be here.
- 16:46They try to be here.
- 16:47They try to be all over the place.
- 16:49And then they wonder why they are not
- 16:52going anywhere.
- 16:54And I want to tell you why.
- 16:56It's because when your brain has to keep
- 16:59switching over and over and over again, this
- 17:03becomes a complete nightmare.
- 17:06It becomes a nightmare.
- 17:08And the reason it's a nightmare is because
- 17:10of one thing.
- 17:11You're not able to see where you're going.
- 17:15You don't have headlights to see what's in
- 17:18front of you.
- 17:24You don't have headlights to see what's in
- 17:26front of you.
- 17:28If you saw what was in front of
- 17:30you, you're like, oh my gosh, I got
- 17:32to turn around or I got to make
- 17:34a turn or whatever, right?
- 17:35But if you don't know what's there, how
- 17:38do you make a turn?
- 17:40You don't.
- 17:43You don't make a turn.
- 17:45Because you don't know how to make the
- 17:46turn.
- 17:49You don't know how to make that.
- 17:57But when we become aware of it, we're
- 18:01like, wait a minute.
- 18:02This suddenly makes sense.
- 18:06Because now we're able to put something in
- 18:09our mind and something in life and attach
- 18:12value to it.
- 18:13And when we do that, we grow.
- 18:18We may not think we grow, but I'm
- 18:20here to tell you that you do grow.
- 18:22You grow.
- 18:24Hands down.
- 18:26And they were saying to me, John, I
- 18:28don't get it.
- 18:29Sometimes you don't need to get anything.
- 18:32You just need to be present.
- 18:34And being present's enough to advance you.
- 18:38That can happen with education.
- 18:40That can happen with thoughtful inspiration.
- 18:43You hear people say, you know, I got
- 18:45a hunch.
- 18:46I got a feeling.
- 18:48They don't know where it came from.
- 18:49Suddenly they were hearing it just came upon
- 18:51them.
- 18:51So they decided to now take that step,
- 18:57which is to respond to the inspiration.
- 19:03We have to take those actions.
- 19:05Number 20, guys, focus improves control over the
- 19:08outcomes.
- 19:08When we focus, we improve the outcome.
- 19:12Think about a projector.
- 19:13If the projector is not focused in, we
- 19:16can't see a darn thing on the screen.
- 19:19If it's out of focus, it could be
- 19:21either too blurry.
- 19:22It could be too in, too out.
- 19:24Once we improve focus, wow, I can see.
- 19:27It's a boy and his dog.
- 19:29Before it just looked like a blob of
- 19:31blue and a brown spot on the right.
- 19:35See how focus gives things narrative?
- 19:38Attention determines direction.
- 19:40And the results.
- 19:43So focus is attention.
- 19:50Focus is a very specific type of attention.
- 19:53You can give somebody attention.
- 19:55But focus attention is when you are giving
- 19:59all of your thoughts to that.
- 20:03Number 21, guys.
- 20:05Attention discipline improves results.
- 20:11Controlled focus produces higher performance.
- 20:15We focus more keenly, the better we'll be
- 20:19at executing, which is number 22.
- 20:21Execution becomes smoother with focus.
- 20:25We know how to focus.
- 20:28We know how to execute.
- 20:29Less resistance creates better flow.
- 20:33There, we keep moving forward.
- 20:35Number 23, guys.
- 20:36Mental clarity improves consistency.
- 20:39Stable thinking leads to stable output.
- 20:42But too many people are worrying about what
- 20:44somebody else is saying, that they're not taking
- 20:47time to look at that stable output.
- 20:49Number 24.
- 20:51Focus reduces rework and correction.
- 20:55We don't want to do things 100 times.
- 20:56I hope not.
- 20:58Fewer mistakes improve efficiency.
- 21:01Efficiency.
- 21:04Okay?
- 21:05Efficiency.
- 21:08Number 25, guys.
- 21:11Attention improves workflow.
- 21:15That specific type of focus, right?
- 21:20Attention improves workflow structure.
- 21:23The tasks in our lives will then become
- 21:25easier to manage because now we have a
- 21:29greater awareness of how things come together in
- 21:32our lives.
- 21:33All right?
- 21:34Number 26.
- 21:36Performance improves with awareness.
- 21:41If you just took one day and said,
- 21:43I'm going to be more aware of things,
- 21:45I'm going to tell you something.
- 22:02But it won't change overnight.
- 22:05So performance improves with awareness.
- 22:07And knowing your focus improves the control.
- 22:12That's dynamite.
- 22:15Number 27, guys.
- 22:17Focus strengthens reliability.
- 22:20Stable attention creates repeatable results.
- 22:25Number 28, guys.
- 22:28Output reflects mental state.
- 22:32Your focus level defines your performance.
- 22:37When I say your level, I'm really talking
- 22:40about how much attention you're giving to focus.
- 22:44I just kind of like looking out of
- 22:46your left eye or your right eye and
- 22:48be like, I'm just going to kind of
- 22:50see what I can gander.
- 22:51But I'm not really putting 100% of
- 22:56my thoughts on that.
- 23:01That's important, guys.
- 23:04Because thought, ladies and gentlemen, becomes reality.
- 23:10Thought becomes reality.
- 23:16That's very important to know.
- 23:19That thought becomes reality.
- 23:22And if thought becomes reality, then that means
- 23:25if we keep doing something over and over
- 23:26again, we are going to have a very
- 23:29good outcome.
- 23:36We're going to have a very, very good
- 23:38outcome.
- 23:39But this does not happen overnight.
- 23:44And people get impatient when things don't happen
- 23:48when they expect them to.
- 23:51So they lose focus.
- 23:54They're not attentive to anything.
- 23:56And they're hoping that something's going to change
- 23:59them.
- 24:00But when somebody's already had that apathy, when
- 24:02somebody's had that, well, I don't want to
- 24:03do this, it changes everybody.
- 24:10It changes everybody.
- 24:17It changes everybody.
- 24:20And I think that's a very important thing
- 24:23to definitely understand.
- 24:29To understand what that means and how that
- 24:33works.
- 24:35But it does not happen overnight.
- 24:38And when you think it's going to, you're
- 24:42wrong.
- 24:46You're going to get discouraged.
- 24:48And so that's why attention and focus is
- 24:52a long game.
- 24:53It's not a short game, guys.
- 24:55Number 29, guys, attention determines success rate.
- 25:02When we deploy better focus, it increases our
- 25:06overall achievement level.
- 25:10Number 30, focus is the true foundation of
- 25:13our performance.
- 25:16Everything starts and ends with, what is it,
- 25:19guys?
- 25:27So ladies and gentlemen, I think the message
- 25:29is very clear.
- 25:30And it's very simple.
- 25:32You do not improve performance by doing more.
- 25:39You don't improve performance by doing more.
- 25:42You improve it by focusing better.
- 25:47By not getting distracted.
- 25:51By being aware of your actions, of your
- 25:56surroundings.
- 25:58And adapting to those things.
- 26:02That's the key, guys.
- 26:05But the people that want to just get
- 26:07this to happen overnight are going to be
- 26:09so, so disappointed.
- 26:12And they're going to keep starting back over
- 26:14and over again because they can't go anywhere.
- 26:20I think that's hard for some people to
- 26:23understand.
- 26:25That they can't go anywhere.
- 26:27It's not because they don't want to.
- 26:32No.
- 26:33It's because they're unsure.
- 26:39They're unsure.
- 26:41And if you're unsure of something, the best
- 26:45way to get sure again is to build
- 26:48your confidence.
- 26:49And I got to tell you guys, it's
- 26:51going to be a little bit...
- 26:52How can I say?
- 26:54It's going to be a little bit uncomfortable
- 26:57in the beginning.
- 26:57You have to practice getting comfortable being uncomfortable.
- 27:05That's the key, guys.
- 27:07Practice getting comfortable being uncomfortable.
- 27:14Practice getting comfortable being uncomfortable.
- 27:22Pretty amazing, right?
- 27:26Practice getting comfortable being uncomfortable.
