• 0:26
Speaker 3: probably presented by Attorney Frank Walker. Real Talk, real experience,
• 0:30
Speaker 3: real results, Frank Walker Law dot Com. Let that conversation
• 0:34
Speaker 3: begin on Let's Talk.
• 0:36
Speaker 2: Hello, ladies and gentlemen.
• 0:38
Speaker 4: This is Carl Lee and I'm in the building with
• 0:42
Speaker 4: Lisa Odie Hello, and Hollis Lewis, my co host of
• 0:46
  Speaker 4: the show.
• 0:48
Speaker 2: And what an interesting day to day is for me,
• 0:53
Speaker 2: at least for me.
• 0:54
Speaker 4: I have kind of waited and been dying to actually
• 0:59
Speaker 4: get in to the w NBA.
• 1:04
Speaker 5: Right text threat I have.
• 1:06
Speaker 4: I have absolutely been wanting to to to to get
• 1:11
Speaker 4: into it, Yes, because I just can't imagine. Okay, my
• 1:18
Speaker 4: my first issue, Okay, the very first issue that I
• 1:21
Speaker 4: really have is how is it possible that your best
• 1:27
Speaker 4: player Caitlyn Clark. Now I don't I'm not even gonna
• 1:30
Speaker 4: say she's the best, but I was going to say
• 1:34
Speaker 4: most recognizable. Yes, I'm gonna say she may not be
• 1:37
Speaker 4: the best. Player, okay, but she's the most notable player.
• 1:42
Speaker 4: She is the draw. And I think the key point.
• 1:45
Speaker 5: Is Angel Reese may have something to say about that.
• 1:48
  Speaker 5: She might.
• 1:49
Speaker 4: She might, but I'm not watching because of her, you know.
• 1:52
Speaker 4: And I don't think I think the people. There are
• 1:54
Speaker 4: a few people who may watch her because they like her.
• 1:59
Speaker 4: But Kaitlyn Clark is the unique athlete that we rarely
• 2:04
Speaker 4: see because she is the one that you eat that
• 2:08
Speaker 4: you absolutely love or you absolutely hate. And when you
• 2:12
Speaker 4: have that, you have something.
• 2:14
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 2:15
Speaker 4: There's a the Michael Jordan thing. You either loved him
• 2:20
Speaker 4: or you hated him. You hated him because you knew
• 2:23
Speaker 4: he beat your team.
• 2:24
  Speaker 2: You didn't really.
• 2:26
Speaker 4: Hate his basketball skills. You hated the fact that he
• 2:31
Speaker 4: beat your team. And I think Caitlyn Clark is the
• 2:39
Speaker 4: the that person. I think she's the greatest attraction for
• 2:46
  Speaker 4: the w n b A and I think they lack
• 2:51
Speaker 4: they do lack pay and and and I just and
• 2:57
Speaker 4: compared to the NBA. Well, I say that's the problem.
• 3:01
  Speaker 4: You can't I get you. I get I get you,
• 3:05
Speaker 4: I get you, But it's too far. If I'm if
• 3:08
  Speaker 4: I'm a female and I'm I'm a former basketball player,
• 3:11
Speaker 4: and I'm watching the game and I realized, how what
• 3:14
  Speaker 4: the what the w n b A is paying these
• 3:17
Speaker 4: these women versus what the NBA is playing them.
• 3:21
  Speaker 2: I got a problem. But that's but I got you.
• 3:23
Speaker 2: But that's not that comparison.
• 3:25
Speaker 4: And you can't compare it that way because the numbers
• 3:28
Speaker 4: don't speak to that, right. And so when you're looking
• 3:31
Speaker 4: at like like and we're just attendant, and I would say,
• 3:33
Speaker 4: I would argue both points, right, I would argue that
• 3:35
Speaker 4: when you're talking about Kaylen Clark being a face of league,
• 3:38
Speaker 4: I would argue that college basketball, college women's back, women's
• 3:42
Speaker 4: college basketball is the is what propelled this, right and
• 3:46
  Speaker 4: but who.
• 3:47
Speaker 2: But but let me let me tell them there who
• 3:50
Speaker 2: was the person that she was a face to it?
• 3:53
Speaker 2: She wasn't defaced, oh.
• 3:56
Speaker 4: Because I think you look at Don Stanley, you look
• 3:58
Speaker 4: at Angely, you look at South Carolina, you know at
• 4:00
Speaker 4: Juju Watkins. I think the collective college women's college basketball
• 4:05
Speaker 4: sparked this and then people started to pay attention to
• 4:08
Speaker 4: the WNBA. And I would say, and I would give
• 4:11
Speaker 4: her credit, she's definitely a face. But going back to
• 4:14
Speaker 4: the numbers of this, right, because when you have a
• 4:17
Speaker 4: league that's losing forty million.
• 4:20
Speaker 2: Dollars in twenty twenty four.
• 4:22
Speaker 4: And we're talking about at the height of the hype
• 4:25
Speaker 4: right last year, she's rookie all that stuff. That's problematic
• 4:30
Speaker 4: when you talk about a league again that at one
• 4:33
Speaker 4: time was heavily subsidized by the NBA. I think at
• 4:37
Speaker 4: one time it was up around seventy five to eighty
• 4:40
Speaker 4: percent of the teams in the WNBA were owned by
• 4:44
Speaker 4: NBA ownership groups. That's not the case anymore. That's going
• 4:48
Speaker 4: to be different. So I think, and again what we
• 4:51
Speaker 4: can argue is that are they getting their fair percentage?
• 4:56
Speaker 4: Because I think they're getting nine percent that's to split
• 5:00
Speaker 4: between the league, the ownership and the w n B
• 5:02
  Speaker 4: A p A. So I think that the percentage is
• 5:05
Speaker 4: what you could argue. But I don't think and I
• 5:08
Speaker 4: think we lose ourselves when you start to do that
• 5:10
Speaker 4: comparative analysis between the w and the NBA.
• 5:13
Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm team Hollis here.
• 5:15
Speaker 6: I'm sorry, Carl, but I feel like this past weekend
• 5:19
Speaker 6: with the w NBA All Star Game, you know that
• 5:21
Speaker 6: the ladies came out wearing those shirts. Of course most
• 5:23
Speaker 6: saw that the pay us what you Owe us shirts
• 5:27
Speaker 6: crowd chanted, you know, pay them or pay us all
• 5:31
  Speaker 6: all the things.
• 5:31
Speaker 5: They were supporting the girls.
• 5:33
Speaker 6: But you know what Hollis is alluded to is the
• 5:36
Speaker 6: difference in financial gains. I mean, you cannot It's like
• 5:40
Speaker 6: comparing apples and oranges when you're comparing the w n
• 5:43
Speaker 6: b A to the NBA. Just just for example, he's
• 5:46
Speaker 6: throwing out percentages in numbers of attendance and all that,
• 5:50
Speaker 6: the difference even in media deals. I mean, you can
• 5:52
Speaker 6: look at some numbers I looked at today. You know,
• 5:56
  Speaker 6: the w n b A had a two point two
• 5:57
Speaker 6: billion dollar media deal. That sounds that sounds great, right,
• 6:00
Speaker 6: sounds like a lot of money. Compare that to a
• 6:03
Speaker 6: seventy five million or billion dollar with the NBA. So
• 6:08
Speaker 6: I mean the money that that's not. You know, they
• 6:11
Speaker 6: want a piece of the pie, but the pie is
• 6:12
Speaker 6: not it's not out of.
• 6:13
Speaker 5: The oven yet. They need to wait a little bit,
• 6:15
Speaker 5: you know what I mean?
• 6:16
Speaker 4: And I like I like that analogy, But for me,
• 6:21
Speaker 4: I'm thinking it's always been And we'll probably touch on
• 6:26
Speaker 4: this on a later topic, but I'm gonna just throw
• 6:29
Speaker 4: this out there. Like like the league, the NFL, okay,
• 6:34
Speaker 4: the NFL at one point they were there was absolutely
• 6:37
Speaker 4: all all the numbers would speak all they can't pay us,
• 6:40
Speaker 4: they can't pass, they can't pass this money. Now they're
• 6:45
Speaker 4: paying this kind of crazy numbers, just hundreds of millions
• 6:50
Speaker 4: of dollars constantly. Right, I'm not sure that what we
• 6:55
Speaker 4: read all the time, what they're saying all the time
• 6:59
  Speaker 4: is correct.
• 7:01
Speaker 2: I think when you have.
• 7:04
Speaker 4: And again I'm gonna make I'm gonna say, Caitlin, I
• 7:07
Speaker 4: believe that she is one. She's my favorite player in
• 7:10
Speaker 4: the league, specifically because you wouldn't know that because of
• 7:16
Speaker 4: her game, because of her game, and I think that.
• 7:22
  Speaker 3: She is.
• 7:24
  Speaker 2: I think she's I think she's the face.
• 7:26
Speaker 4: I think the fact that you allow her, you allow
• 7:31
Speaker 4: her to get beat up to the degree where officials
• 7:36
Speaker 4: you gotta you gotta suspend fire officials because they're not
• 7:41
Speaker 4: calling fouls on her, Like.
• 7:44
  Speaker 2: I don't, hollis.
• 7:45
Speaker 4: You you can't tell me that she's not getting beat
• 7:49
Speaker 4: up physically beat up by other players and nothing's getting called,
• 7:55
Speaker 4: but I mean agating, Michael Jortan got beat up by
• 7:57
Speaker 4: other players, nothing like that, nothing like did you nothing?
• 8:01
Speaker 4: Nothing like Michael Jordan got whooped by the Detroit Pistons.
• 8:05
Speaker 4: And those early teams in the eighties by the Celtics.
• 8:07
Speaker 4: He got beat on. They had to change the rules
• 8:10
Speaker 4: because of Michael Jordan. But I'm saying, what did they do?
• 8:12
  Speaker 2: They had to.
• 8:13
Speaker 4: Change the rules because because of Michael Jordan.
• 8:17
Speaker 2: She's not that. Oh my god, she's not that. She's
• 8:21
  Speaker 2: she's not that.
• 8:21
Speaker 4: I don't know if we've seen that person yet, but
• 8:24
  Speaker 4: I don't think she's she's it. She's going to be
• 8:26
Speaker 4: a very good No, she's not because you again, if
• 8:30
Speaker 4: you don't have nobody, somebody gets to be the top.
• 8:33
Speaker 4: Asian Wilson is the top right now.
• 8:35
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. Forrest play on the court.
• 8:37
Speaker 4: You can say other things, but she's not the Michael
• 8:40
Speaker 4: Jordan because right now, you even in this even in
• 8:43
Speaker 4: his early years, Michael Jordan's win the scoring titles and
• 8:46
Speaker 4: doing things before he got to the championship levels. So
• 8:48
Speaker 4: she has to get to a point where statistically that's validated.
• 8:52
Speaker 4: And it's eventually gonna have to come to a point
• 8:54
Speaker 4: where you start to win multiple championships. And we haven't
• 8:57
Speaker 4: seen that yet. But but I'll let you go just quickly.
• 9:01
Speaker 4: But to my point, it's just like Lisa said, this league,
• 9:05
Speaker 4: whether who's whoever's the face of it, they sort of it.
• 9:10
Speaker 4: It would be a strategic mistake for them to have
• 9:13
Speaker 4: a strike at this moment, because I don't think the
• 9:16
Speaker 4: league is strong enough, and I think they're teetering on
• 9:19
Speaker 4: the point of being like that fourth or fifth major
• 9:21
Speaker 4: sport in the US. They're almost to that point. But
• 9:25
Speaker 4: if you start to let it go now and you
• 9:28
Speaker 4: have a workstop as now, that could really really damage
• 9:31
Speaker 4: the league moving forward, and they going to have to
• 9:33
Speaker 4: wait on that money a little bit, and unfortunately some
• 9:36
Speaker 4: of them are going to have to sacrifice until the
• 9:38
Speaker 4: money can get bigger in the next few years.
• 9:40
Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I agree with that point, but I'm
• 9:43
Speaker 6: going to go back to the point about her not
• 9:45
Speaker 6: being the face of the WNBA, because right now she's
• 9:48
Speaker 6: the closest thing to it that they have. I mean,
• 9:52
Speaker 6: you know, the problem with her is I think there's
• 9:55
Speaker 6: just a basic, I don't want to say lack of respect.
• 9:58
Speaker 6: Maybe there's too much respect, and that's the reason she
• 10:00
Speaker 6: gets the treatment she does on the court. They know
• 10:02
Speaker 6: they have to contain her, and sometimes they have to
• 10:04
Speaker 6: hurt her to do that. But I also think that
• 10:06
Speaker 6: she doesn't have a whole lot of support, even when
• 10:08
Speaker 6: it comes from the commissioner. I mean, you know, Kathy Engelbert,
• 10:11
Speaker 6: I think in this past month or so, she was
• 10:14
Speaker 6: in an interview with a station of some type and
• 10:18
Speaker 6: they were asking her, you know, how do you account
• 10:20
Speaker 6: for this viewership being up like one hundred and seventy
• 10:22
Speaker 6: percent with the WNBA. Do you know do you kind
• 10:27
Speaker 6: of associate that with Caitlin Clark? And her answer was, well,
• 10:30
Speaker 6: she and Angel Reese, which which Angel does contribute, but
• 10:33
Speaker 6: I'm still saying Caitlin is the reason we're drawing in
• 10:36
Speaker 6: the viewership numbers that we are. The other thing she
• 10:39
Speaker 6: said was and I thought this was kind of like
• 10:41
Speaker 6: out there, but she said she attributed it to their app,
• 10:45
Speaker 6: their WNBA app, and she feels like the reason that
• 10:48
Speaker 6: more people are watching this because they did these improvements
• 10:51
Speaker 6: on their app and now it's more easily accessible to fans. Well,
• 10:55
Speaker 6: first of all, the fans aren't going to seek out
• 10:56
Speaker 6: the app to watch a game unless they want to
• 10:59
Speaker 6: see a particular player or team, correct, I would think.
• 11:02
  Speaker 4: So.
• 11:02
Speaker 6: I didn't know what that shade was about, but it
• 11:04
Speaker 6: was definitely thrown towards Caitlin in that conversation. But you know,
• 11:07
  Speaker 6: here's here's your answer. Let's let's let's let Caitlin go,
• 11:11
Speaker 6: you know, to an overseas league, you know, maximizer earnings
• 11:14
  Speaker 6: and see where the w n B a NBA's lapped
• 11:16
Speaker 6: after that, I see how the viewership goes.
• 11:19
Speaker 4: I'm curious to what you what you how you answer this, hollis,
• 11:23
Speaker 4: if Caitlyn were to sit down and say, okay, right,
• 11:30
  Speaker 4: y'all don't need me. I'm I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna sit.
• 11:34
Speaker 4: I'm gonna sit the rest of the year out, you
• 11:37
Speaker 4: think that they would lose viewership.
• 11:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it would definitely lose some. And again
• 11:44
Speaker 2: I'm not not gonna say I'm gonna say not some.
• 11:47
Speaker 2: I think it would lose some majority.
• 11:48
Speaker 4: But I also think to to the previous point, I
• 11:53
Speaker 4: do think this was about women's college basketball, and you
• 11:57
Speaker 4: have these two superstars anguries in Kaylyn Clark ascending together.
• 12:02
Speaker 4: This is really because because again this is the w
• 12:06
Speaker 4: n ba's magic magic in Larry Bird moment. They didn't
• 12:10
Speaker 4: do it right now because they both should have went
• 12:13
Speaker 4: to different conferences. So in the hopes of one day
• 12:16
Speaker 4: they're meeting in the championship. So this was their moment.
• 12:19
Speaker 4: So much as we like to talk about, you know,
• 12:22
Speaker 4: Kayln Clark, this was about Angel Rees too. This was
• 12:24
Speaker 4: about those two entities emerging. You have the girl from
• 12:28
Speaker 4: the South, you have the girl from the Midwest. They
• 12:31
Speaker 4: met in college. They had this rivalry in college, and
• 12:33
Speaker 4: then they're going to have this rivalry in the w
• 12:36
  Speaker 4: n B. A. That's part of this narrative. This isn't
• 12:38
Speaker 4: just about Kaylyn Clark has Okay.
• 12:42
Speaker 6: I mean, once again, I agree to it. I agree
• 12:47
Speaker 6: to a point. But then let's look at let's look
• 12:49
Speaker 6: at numbers. Let's look at attendance data. Okay, let's do
• 12:52
Speaker 6: some comparisons, all right, because.
• 12:54
  Speaker 2: Numbers don't lie.
• 12:55
Speaker 5: People can lie. Numbers don't, all right.
• 12:57
Speaker 6: So when we're looking at the Indiana Fever, they're attended
• 13:00
Speaker 6: it numbers. Okay, they're averaging sixteen to seventeen thousand fans
• 13:04
  Speaker 6: per game.
• 13:05
  Speaker 5: Okay.
• 13:06
Speaker 6: When you look at the Chicago skot which is Angel
• 13:08
Speaker 6: Reese's team, they're averaging seven to nine thousand per game.
• 13:12
  Speaker 5: Okay.
• 13:13
Speaker 6: When they play each other in Chicago, they had more
• 13:18
Speaker 6: than nineteen thousand fans show up. So taking those numbers.
• 13:23
Speaker 6: What could tell me?
• 13:24
Speaker 5: Guys? What what do you take from that?
• 13:26
Speaker 2: It's about the robbery, Well, it is.
• 13:29
Speaker 6: About the rivalry, but if you take Caitlin out.
• 13:32
Speaker 2: Of the try it he is.
• 13:34
Speaker 4: What I'm saying is like sports, sports in general is
• 13:39
Speaker 4: about robvalry. Like you have the Commanders and Cowboys, you
• 13:42
Speaker 4: have the cowboys and Giants. It's the Packers in the
• 13:47
Speaker 4: in the Vikings. It's about rivalries. And I don't think
• 13:51
Speaker 4: we've never seen, at least far as in popular culture
• 13:55
Speaker 4: the wn BA concertain we never really seen like a
• 13:57
Speaker 4: robbery that everybody can grab on to. And those two women,
• 14:01
Speaker 4: those two players have a ribvalry that everybody tunes into.
• 14:06
Speaker 4: And they got a game Sunday at three o'clock which
• 14:08
Speaker 4: I'll be watching. Okay, so I agree, I agree, But
• 14:12
Speaker 4: I think that you know that rivalry is made by
• 14:19
Speaker 4: Caitlyn Clark. It's it's made one Okay, Okay, I'm gonna.
• 14:26
Speaker 5: Jab back and forth pretty good, don't you like? In
• 14:29
  Speaker 5: social media?
• 14:31
Speaker 2: But I think here's you know Reese, what she can do.
• 14:35
  Speaker 4: She's a she's a rebounder, she's you know, she scores inside.
• 14:40
Speaker 4: So she's that quote. What I'm gonna say, is like
• 14:43
Speaker 4: the old school basketball. Yeah, man, Okay, that's who she is.
• 14:49
Speaker 4: Now who is Steph Curry? So Caitlyn is is that
• 14:55
Speaker 4: person who everybody loves.
• 14:59
Speaker 2: Even if you don't like it.
• 15:01
Speaker 4: You know he's gonna hit that three pointer and you
• 15:04
Speaker 4: know she's gonna hit it. And so the comparison gets lost,
• 15:11
Speaker 4: or to me has it fails because it's a different
• 15:16
  Speaker 4: type of player. It's like it's like a quarterback who's
• 15:20
  Speaker 4: a great who's got.
• 15:21
Speaker 2: A great arm, but can't run.
• 15:24
Speaker 4: In today's game, you got to be able to throw
• 15:27
Speaker 4: the ball and you got to be able to run.
• 15:29
Speaker 4: And I think Caitlyn has everything that you could possibly have, passing.
• 15:37
Speaker 2: All of that kind of She's well rounded.
• 15:40
Speaker 4: And again I'm not saying she's not like a facing
• 15:44
  Speaker 4: She's not.
• 15:45
Speaker 2: She is. I'm not saying she's not prominent.
• 15:48
  Speaker 4: But what I'm saying is like, I don't think she's
• 15:51
  Speaker 4: it's just about her, Like, okay, I don't think it's
• 15:55
Speaker 4: just about her, all right, Well, at least you got
• 15:59
  Speaker 4: anything else.
• 16:00
Speaker 6: I just want to you know, I found a quote
• 16:02
Speaker 6: from Kobe Bryant today that I think fits this perfect,
• 16:04
Speaker 6: this whole conversation haters are a good problem to have.
• 16:07
Speaker 6: Nobody hates the good ones. They hate the great ones.
• 16:10
Speaker 6: So there you have it.
• 16:11
Speaker 2: So, Hollis, thank you. You hate on the great one,
• 16:20
Speaker 2: We still love it. All right. So listen, do you
• 16:23
Speaker 2: have anything? I'm good?
• 16:25
Speaker 4: Okay, all right, So, Hollis, you you had mentioned something
• 16:30
Speaker 4: in the text line about the NFL. So introduce us
• 16:38
Speaker 4: into this this new conversation.
• 16:40
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 16:40
Speaker 4: So several several months ago January, specifically, there were some
• 16:45
Speaker 4: claims of collusion that I guess the NFL PA were
• 16:50
Speaker 4: making against several NFL owners and basically, and kind of
• 16:54
Speaker 4: without getting into too much of the weeds, what happened
• 16:58
Speaker 4: was that because of that big Sean Watson contract with
• 17:01
Speaker 4: the Cleveland Browns, this huge contract and obviously didn't work out,
• 17:05
Speaker 4: there was claim that some NFL owners were on a
• 17:08
Speaker 4: text line between one another and basically what they were
• 17:11
Speaker 4: saying like, hey, we gotta nip this in above, we
• 17:13
Speaker 4: can't have these big contracts. Specifically, hasn't relates to quarterbacks.
• 17:17
Speaker 4: The claim had so much validally that it actually went
• 17:20
Speaker 4: to an arbitrader in January and they had a whole like,
• 17:24
Speaker 4: you know, and if you don't know what the arbitrador is.
• 17:25
Speaker 4: It's like a you know, sort of like a between
• 17:29
  Speaker 4: It's like it's like a judge. It's like a you know,
• 17:32
Speaker 4: informal court proceeding, if you will. And from there, the arbitrator,
• 17:39
Speaker 4: Chris Donnery, ruled that there was no collusion between the
• 17:42
Speaker 4: NFL owners and to keep salaries down. However, the sort
• 17:47
Speaker 4: of the crux of what this means, why this is
• 17:50
Speaker 4: a prominent story because this story was not given dished
• 17:54
Speaker 4: out to the media, so nobody knew about this story.
• 17:57
Speaker 4: I mean, this happened in January, and you had a
• 17:59
Speaker 4: form ESPN reporter actually released these finings in the sixty
• 18:03
Speaker 4: one page document I think last month, So for six months,
• 18:07
Speaker 4: nobody even knew that this quote unquote court case happened.
• 18:12
Speaker 4: So that's kind of an issue, and you know, I
• 18:15
Speaker 4: find it problematic within the context of the document, it
• 18:18
Speaker 4: seemed like something fishy was going on, although there was
• 18:21
Speaker 4: no collusion found. As a former athlete, you could never
• 18:27
Speaker 4: convince me that something didn't happen.
• 18:32
Speaker 2: That's not that I mean, the reality of.
• 18:38
Speaker 4: It when you go back to the days when I
• 18:41
Speaker 4: was playing, it was so hard, you know, it was
• 18:46
Speaker 4: so hard to negotiate a contract to get just a
• 18:49
Speaker 4: little bit of money, you know that we thought was
• 18:53
Speaker 4: still a lot of money back then. And the fact
• 18:56
Speaker 4: of the matter is that I find it problematic because
• 19:00
Speaker 4: this report, although they, you know, ruled that no collusion
• 19:03
Speaker 4: was found, that the players were blocked from accessing this report.
• 19:08
  Speaker 4: So I don't I don't know why you wouldn't release
• 19:11
Speaker 4: this report if nothing was done. And the reporter who
• 19:16
Speaker 4: who brought this to the light of his his name
• 19:18
Speaker 4: is Pablo Torres, and I pod I bet you, and
• 19:23
Speaker 4: you probably can't get a player to talk about it
• 19:27
Speaker 4: because I'm sure that's been a hush thing. You know,
• 19:29
Speaker 4: we don't need to be talking about this. We're in camp.
• 19:32
Speaker 4: Let's just get ready for the season. Let's forget all
• 19:34
Speaker 4: that kind of stuff. That's kind of how stuff dies.
• 19:39
Speaker 5: But the time of year it was released, you're saying yes.
• 19:42
Speaker 4: And and and and there's nothing, there's nothing that that
• 19:45
Speaker 4: would would would shock me. Yeah, I just I mean
• 19:48
Speaker 4: from Mott Gohilly's I'm sorry, yeah, but I just would say,
• 19:52
Speaker 4: you know, again, I know conspiracy theorists per se, but
• 19:55
Speaker 4: you know, the idea that owners don't talk amongst one another, right,
• 20:01
Speaker 4: the idea that they don't talk about player contracts and
• 20:04
Speaker 4: what's good for the league and good for obviously them.
• 20:08
Speaker 4: I find it hard to believe. Now, does is that
• 20:11
  Speaker 4: tantamount to collusion?
• 20:14
Speaker 6: I don't know, Okay, So to help me understand this
• 20:16
Speaker 6: in Mahala, so the arbitrator ruled there wasn't sufficient evidence
• 20:21
Speaker 6: that the teams colluded to follow the advice, but they
• 20:25
Speaker 6: did find evidence that the NFL Commissioner and the General
• 20:29
Speaker 6: Counsel encouraged teams to reduce Yeah, they're guaranteed money. So
• 20:33
Speaker 6: to me, it's like do as I say, not as
• 20:38
Speaker 6: I do. To a degree, it's like saying, okay, we
• 20:41
Speaker 6: got caught telling you to do something wrong. But if
• 20:44
Speaker 6: you'd have got caught, you would have been punished in
• 20:46
Speaker 6: some degree. Absolutely, But they don't even get a handslap
• 20:49
Speaker 6: because of who they are. So to me, all of
• 20:51
  Speaker 6: it's it's just it's a dirty, dirty situation.
• 20:56
Speaker 4: I have always thought that, you know, this will this
• 20:58
Speaker 4: will sound terrible, But I've always thought, and I don't
• 21:02
Speaker 4: mean this across the board everybody, but usually it is
• 21:09
Speaker 4: very difficult, you know. And there was a gentleman who's
• 21:11
Speaker 4: passed away, Michael Linn who was was the guy that
• 21:15
Speaker 4: you had to go see your contract to get your
• 21:17
  Speaker 4: contract through.
• 21:19
Speaker 2: And one of the things that.
• 21:22
Speaker 4: He he would do would he he would low ball
• 21:26
Speaker 4: you any any chance he thought he could he could,
• 21:31
Speaker 4: he he would load ball you to the best of
• 21:33
Speaker 4: his ability, and he would end his conversation when he
• 21:38
Speaker 4: decided like, Okay, if it's one hundred thousand dollars, that's it.
• 21:42
Speaker 4: That's his top level. He would tell a black player
• 21:46
Speaker 4: to go drive a bus, Go drive a cab. If
• 21:50
Speaker 4: you don't want this, go drive a cab.
• 21:51
  Speaker 2: Wow.
• 21:53
Speaker 4: And you you're sitting there and you're looking at this dude, like,
• 21:56
Speaker 4: what are you saying?
• 21:57
Speaker 2: What are you saying to me?
• 21:59
Speaker 4: What is what makes you think that I can't go
• 22:01
Speaker 4: do something other than just this.
• 22:03
Speaker 6: You guys didn't have a player's association of any come
• 22:06
Speaker 6: back then or digit.
• 22:07
Speaker 2: It just it just started and it just started. But
• 22:10
Speaker 2: you couldn't There was no there was no fight, Yeah
• 22:13
Speaker 2: there was. There was really no There was no way.
• 22:15
Speaker 4: You didn't have an understanding of what the power was
• 22:19
Speaker 4: to fight them in these kinds of situation. Like I said,
• 22:24
Speaker 4: speaking of power, I mean even if you like looking
• 22:26
Speaker 4: I'm looking at an article on the New York Post.
• 22:30
Speaker 4: They the arbitrator found that there was no collusion amongst
• 22:33
Speaker 4: the owners, but by Lisha mentioned this by clear propondance
• 22:37
Speaker 4: of the evidence that Commissioner Roger Goodell and Lee's General
• 22:41
Speaker 4: Kowen encouraged teams to restrict players guaranteed contract.
• 22:45
Speaker 2: So for me, see how they do the worst salad,
• 22:48
  Speaker 2: the worst seal.
• 22:49
Speaker 4: It's like, Okay, the owners didn't, but are the boss,
• 22:52
Speaker 4: the GM of the league did it. So I'm saying
• 22:55
Speaker 4: to me, I don't know how that's not collusion. It
• 22:58
Speaker 4: may not be collusion amongst the owners, but it's collusion
• 23:02
Speaker 4: amongst the league and the owners. Yeah, why is the league?
• 23:07
Speaker 4: Why is the league worried about what the vikings are paying?
• 23:10
Speaker 4: Because because I think because he's between to the owners, yes,
• 23:15
Speaker 4: and and and somebody some of the owners are they
• 23:19
Speaker 4: they're definitely talking about, Look, we got to stop these numbers.
• 23:22
Speaker 4: We can't get we can't let these numbers keep growing
• 23:25
Speaker 4: because it's gonna it's gonna hit our pocket. And then
• 23:28
Speaker 4: why they don't want to lose the kind of money
• 23:32
Speaker 4: that they're making you. So, so now what what I'm
• 23:35
Speaker 4: going to do is, let's let's get rid of the
• 23:38
Speaker 4: guaranteed contracts because then because okay, so when you get
• 23:43
Speaker 4: rid of the guaranteed contracts, who do you think is
• 23:45
Speaker 4: gonna be the first guy you cut as soon as
• 23:47
Speaker 4: he becomes less than what you need.
• 23:50
Speaker 2: Or guarantee, he's the first guy. He's the first guy gone.
• 23:52
Speaker 4: And and like I said, like I think, like you know,
• 23:55
Speaker 4: into our conversation earlier, specifically about the w n b A,
• 23:59
Speaker 4: and we we we talk about those numbers. But even
• 24:02
Speaker 4: from a situation like this, you really never know what's
• 24:05
Speaker 4: going on behind the scenes, right because to your point,
• 24:09
Speaker 4: the owners, in the league officials specifically in the w
• 24:12
Speaker 4: n b A, they could be saying one thing, like
• 24:14
Speaker 4: all these are the numbers, but they could be messing
• 24:17
Speaker 4: and flipping and changing. You know what I'm saying, We
• 24:19
Speaker 4: don't know what's going on a situation like this where
• 24:21
Speaker 4: you have the League of Leagues, right, the NFL is
• 24:25
Speaker 4: the League of Leagues is number one, right, and you
• 24:27
Speaker 4: have the g M, the president of that league, the
• 24:31
Speaker 4: commissioner of the league, Roger Goodell, colluding owners, yeah, basically
• 24:37
Speaker 4: telling the owners, trying to dictate salaries of organization type.
• 24:42
Speaker 5: Of punishment, and the arbitrate, I don't know, but to me, to.
• 24:49
Speaker 4: Me the players because the fact of the matters, this
• 24:52
Speaker 4: information was withheld from the players. So how how does
• 24:56
Speaker 4: that work? Well, you would like to think that you
• 24:59
Speaker 4: would like the thing that the NFL. It's coaches can't
• 25:07
Speaker 4: say ownership because that is the NFL, but the coaches,
• 25:13
Speaker 4: general managers of the teams, those folks should be out
• 25:17
Speaker 4: there saying you should not be interrupting, You shouldn't even
• 25:21
Speaker 4: be bothered with who and what I pay this.
• 25:27
Speaker 2: They're part of that.
• 25:28
Speaker 4: So then if you if you erase them, you got
• 25:31
Speaker 4: all you got is PLoP players.
• 25:33
Speaker 2: Who are the players going to go to? Who are
• 25:35
  Speaker 2: they gonna report?
• 25:36
Speaker 4: You have an NFL p A And from the looks
• 25:39
Speaker 4: of it to the president of the NFL PA was
• 25:43
Speaker 4: recently fired for doing something, you know, you know, spending
• 25:47
Speaker 4: money he shouldn't have been spending and he and he
• 25:50
Speaker 4: looks to be in cahoots with Goodell and league ownership
• 25:53
Speaker 4: and different things of that nature. So if I guess
• 25:56
  Speaker 4: what I'm saying, if I'm a player, particularly if I'm
• 25:59
Speaker 4: a prompt minute player, and I'm on the precipice of
• 26:03
Speaker 4: possibly getting one of those guaranteed contracts. I'm really looking
• 26:07
Speaker 4: hard at the NFLPA and be like, look, guys, this
• 26:10
Speaker 4: is crazy because obviously it doesn't appear that and again
• 26:13
Speaker 4: we're talking about a bunch of millionaires one hundred thousand
• 26:15
Speaker 4: AARs whatever. Yeah, but it doesn't appear like the players
• 26:18
Speaker 4: at any level have any adequate representation within that organization.
• 26:22
Speaker 6: That's exactly what I just was going to bring up,
• 26:24
Speaker 6: Hollus is you know, you look at this whole situation
• 26:27
Speaker 6: and you see that the upper level management is influencing
• 26:31
Speaker 6: team behaviors from their owners, and you know it doesn't
• 26:35
Speaker 6: constitute direct collusion, but but what does that do to
• 26:39
Speaker 6: their players association? Does that like diminish their their role,
• 26:43
Speaker 6: their power? I mean, it seems like they're kind of saying,
• 26:45
Speaker 6: we don't care. You can file these grievances, but we're
• 26:48
Speaker 6: going to say, yeah, that happened, but what do you
• 26:49
Speaker 6: want us to do about it?
• 26:50
Speaker 4: And then the players Association made an agreement right ownership
• 26:54
Speaker 4: not to release the documents to the players like it.
• 26:58
Speaker 4: To me, it hurts the the quality of the league,
• 27:01
Speaker 4: and it really this is a stain.
• 27:03
Speaker 2: Ain't nobody talking about it? Well?
• 27:05
  Speaker 4: And I think too I think, and I don't know
• 27:08
Speaker 4: this as a fact, but this is what I think
• 27:11
Speaker 4: when when the player, when a player gets into a
• 27:14
Speaker 4: position that has some kind of say, has some kind
• 27:18
Speaker 4: of opportunity to fix something, or learns that there's something
• 27:22
Speaker 4: really bad happening, I feel like sometimes they're they're caught
• 27:28
Speaker 4: in that situation because they don't want to lose that
• 27:32
Speaker 4: position because they could always go up another notch, they
• 27:35
Speaker 4: could always get to something else. And once you get
• 27:38
Speaker 4: out of the league, now you're into the quote the
• 27:41
Speaker 4: administrative piece of it. You love it, you know, you
• 27:45
Speaker 4: get caught up in it, and now you feel like
• 27:47
Speaker 4: you're somewhat the boss.
• 27:48
Speaker 2: And I think some of.
• 27:49
Speaker 4: These guys let us down because they're stuck in their
• 27:54
Speaker 4: own excitement and this new place. But I would again,
• 27:59
Speaker 4: I would have to go back to the players. And
• 28:01
Speaker 4: I'm saying, if you're an executive and in particularly in
• 28:04
Speaker 4: the NFL p A, and you're supposed to be representing
• 28:08
Speaker 4: me and then you're doing stuff like this, you fouling up.
• 28:11
  Speaker 2: You fouled.
• 28:12
Speaker 4: I think the former headed of Lloyd Howie, he found
• 28:16
Speaker 4: O lord Howe, excuse me, he fouled an appeal six
• 28:19
Speaker 4: months after the fact, but really it seems like he
• 28:23
Speaker 4: fouled the appeal when this was came out, so he
• 28:26
Speaker 4: had like, oh crap, I gotta you know what I'm saying.
• 28:29
  Speaker 4: So it's like, if I'm at a player level, you're
• 28:32
Speaker 4: not representing me, Like I have no representation within this.
• 28:39
  Speaker 4: I don't think I don't think players have, you know,
• 28:43
Speaker 4: and all these little organizations that quote we we create
• 28:46
Speaker 4: and all this kind of stuff, they don't really have
• 28:49
Speaker 4: any they don't really have any power, or they're not
• 28:52
Speaker 4: exercising the power of exercising, so they're not putting.
• 28:57
Speaker 2: They're not putting there with the.
• 29:01
Speaker 5: Commissioner and you know.
• 29:02
Speaker 4: Yeah, it would seem like somebody on the player side
• 29:05
Speaker 4: would be screaming to the to the heapens about this.
• 29:08
Speaker 4: It would seem like somebody would just be like, hey man,
• 29:11
Speaker 4: this is crazy that this is that this happened. It
• 29:13
Speaker 4: seemed like you would have some sort of intellectual person
• 29:17
Speaker 4: on this side to say, hey, to review this stuff
• 29:20
Speaker 4: and to really you know, because this something like this,
• 29:23
Speaker 4: if this would come out like on.
• 29:25
Speaker 2: The NBA side, oh oh yeah about it for three months,
• 29:29
  Speaker 2: that's what's wild.
• 29:30
Speaker 6: You haven't seen hard anything on ESPN or any of these.
• 29:34
Speaker 6: You know that the talk shows that they have not
• 29:36
Speaker 6: they barely touch it.
• 29:37
Speaker 4: Like the NBA and and and professional baseball. Oh they would,
• 29:42
Speaker 4: they would kill this. They control, they dominate their their organization.
• 29:47
Speaker 4: They're gonna get what they want. They're gonna they're gonna
• 29:51
Speaker 4: go out and they're.
• 29:51
Speaker 5: Gonna follow out the mighty dollars and football.
• 29:55
Speaker 4: It's it's hard to get guys, it's hard to get
• 29:58
Speaker 4: everybody on the same page to fight for the same cause.
• 30:01
Speaker 4: Because of the money, well I would I wouldn't say
• 30:03
Speaker 4: the money. I would say because of the careers are
• 30:05
Speaker 4: so short. Like you if you look at like you know,
• 30:08
Speaker 4: NFL careers, like but three years and you're just outside
• 30:12
Speaker 4: of the NFL, it's really nowhere to go to make money.
• 30:16
Speaker 4: Like you're not going to make because if you're a
• 30:17
Speaker 4: professional football player, if you're not playing in the NFL,
• 30:21
Speaker 4: there's literally other than maybe Canada, we know those spots
• 30:24
Speaker 4: are limited. Then even in Canada, you're not making money,
• 30:27
Speaker 4: whereas opposed, if you're a professional basketball player, the world
• 30:30
Speaker 4: is your oyster. Essentially, Michael Beasley, he's out of the
• 30:34
Speaker 4: league and he's doing these one on ones making a
• 30:36
Speaker 4: couple hundred thousand dollars just playing playground basketball. Essentially, we
• 30:41
Speaker 4: just had the TVT here, so I think that's part
• 30:44
Speaker 4: of the issue. But I but I still think I
• 30:46
Speaker 4: can't believe not one player is talking about this.
• 30:50
Speaker 6: I just think the bottom line here is just, you know,
• 30:52
Speaker 6: there's no accountability of their leadership. I mean, there's the
• 30:55
  Speaker 6: transparency's not there. It's it's I just don't know how
• 30:59
Speaker 6: they kept it under wrap for as long as they
• 31:00
Speaker 6: did with so many parties involved, well.
• 31:03
Speaker 4: And and basically still keeping it right because it's out
• 31:07
Speaker 4: there a little bit, but it ain't talk really there's
• 31:10
Speaker 4: like you, like you said earlier, there's no paperwork, there's
• 31:13
Speaker 4: no you don't know who's who said this, who did that,
• 31:17
Speaker 4: there's none of that, and who knows if and when? Well, well,
• 31:22
Speaker 4: there there is a sixty one page document that I
• 31:24
Speaker 4: think it's you can review. But but other than that,
• 31:28
  Speaker 4: it's just I just can't believe players.
• 31:30
  Speaker 5: It's not a news story, that's what we're saying, and
• 31:32
Speaker 5: it should be. It should be out there.
• 31:35
Speaker 2: You should you should see it on it work.
• 31:37
  Speaker 6: I mean, I'm sure that document you're talking about, Holl's
• 31:40
Speaker 6: got a lot of lead in it, and people aren't
• 31:42
Speaker 6: going to take time to believe that because it's hard
• 31:44
Speaker 6: to understand six yeah, yeah, yeah exactly, So they need
• 31:47
Speaker 6: like a layman's kind of version of it that presented
• 31:50
  Speaker 6: in talk.
• 31:51
Speaker 3: With Carl LEAs right, let's talk. I'm not saying, attorney
• 31:54
Speaker 3: Frank Robert, this would be my results. And Frank Walker cried.
• 32:02
Speaker 4: Or outraised about this because this was attack on how
• 32:06
Speaker 4: much money they can make, right, so we're talking about money.
• 32:10
Speaker 4: This was just saying, hey, we're gonna we're gonna try
• 32:12
Speaker 4: to cap and limit it how much money you can make,
• 32:15
  Speaker 4: which is I don't know.
• 32:16
Speaker 6: I think I think do you think they're aware of it?
• 32:19
Speaker 6: I mean they're aware of it. I mean the players
• 32:21
  Speaker 6: like the I don't.
• 32:22
Speaker 2: Aware of it. Yeah, I think that they have to
• 32:26
Speaker 2: be aware of it. I mean I don't know.
• 32:29
Speaker 6: I mean, they did a really good job of keeping
• 32:31
Speaker 6: it out of the public eye for as long as
• 32:33
  Speaker 6: they did.
• 32:33
Speaker 4: But I'd say, if it's out now, or at least
• 32:36
Speaker 4: it's out now, there's some there's some mumbling about it.
• 32:39
Speaker 2: Somebody has to be saying something.
• 32:42
Speaker 4: Out there that out there, But I think it's gonna
• 32:45
  Speaker 4: what's gonna what it's gonna take it's it's gonna take
• 32:47
Speaker 4: that out outspoken person who's willing to risk whatever that
• 32:53
Speaker 4: comes with it, and a lot of guys.
• 32:55
Speaker 2: Aren't willing to do that, right, you know. So all right,
• 33:00
Speaker 2: so we're gonna take a quick break and we will

Speaker 3: Welcome to Let's talk with Carl Lee. Let's talk is
• 34:17
Speaker 3: probably presented by Attorney Frank Walker, Real talk, real experience,
• 34:21
Speaker 3: real results, Frank Walker Law dot com. Let that conversation
• 34:25
Speaker 3: begin on let's talk.
• 34:28
Speaker 4: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we are back, and uh
• 34:32
Speaker 4: we're gonna stay in football. And maybe i'd even say
• 34:36
Speaker 4: in some in some crazy stuff. I guess Hollis is
• 34:40
Speaker 4: gonna talk a little bit about uh Teddy Bridgewater, Well,
• 34:44
Speaker 4: NFL quarterback. I think he just got signed, so he's
• 34:47
Speaker 4: not a former anymore. But NFL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. He
• 34:50
Speaker 4: was the head coach of a high school in Miami
• 34:54
Speaker 4: that recently last year won a state title. And it
• 34:59
Speaker 4: came to a light that he had spent upwards to
• 35:02
Speaker 4: about two hundred thousand dollars on the program. And this
• 35:06
Speaker 4: included buying meals of making sure players had uber rised
• 35:13
Speaker 4: practical them from and you know, buying I think equipment
• 35:16
Speaker 4: and other things for the program. The money was spent
• 35:19
Speaker 4: on the program or or it was spent to assist
• 35:23
Speaker 4: players from what we understand, So it wasn't like individual
• 35:26
Speaker 4: players were getting in and benefit or anything like that.
• 35:29
Speaker 4: It was nothing elicit going on, because I don't think
• 35:32
Speaker 4: the state or the school district actually suspended him. It
• 35:36
Speaker 4: was the school administration that that suspended him. And it
• 35:40
Speaker 4: just you know, physical therapy was one of those phys
• 35:45
Speaker 4: one of the things like that. So I mean, what
• 35:47
Speaker 4: do you guys thoughts on it? What is what is
• 35:51
Speaker 4: so crazy to me is if that person, if I
• 35:56
Speaker 4: could find a coach who's going to do that for
• 35:59
Speaker 4: my program, because there's one or two things we're either
• 36:02
Speaker 4: not getting funding or we just don't have it. Yeah, okay,
• 36:08
Speaker 4: So anything that's medical, usually you would think the school,
• 36:14
Speaker 4: high school, there would there would be some kind of
• 36:16
Speaker 4: insurance of some sort that they could go to to
• 36:20
Speaker 4: to help them, you know, whatever the level. Usually there's
• 36:24
Speaker 4: something that you could somewhere you can go. This appear
• 36:29
Speaker 4: appears to me like there is no resource for medical
• 36:35
Speaker 4: or any of those kinds of things. And if you
• 36:37
Speaker 4: end up being the person have to pay then I'm
• 36:40
Speaker 4: paying it for you in some form of fashion. That's
• 36:43
Speaker 4: that's way different than handing you money money. But but
• 36:49
Speaker 4: but do you think because he has that level of
• 36:53
Speaker 4: resources that it gives his team unfair advantage over the
• 36:58
Speaker 4: other teams in similar situation?
• 36:59
Speaker 2: That would be no to me.
• 37:01
Speaker 4: No, because I'm gonna say, let's say Lisa, Lisa is
• 37:04
Speaker 4: a donor to GW and she gives one hundred thousand dollars.
• 37:11
Speaker 4: I'm a donor of South Charleston.
• 37:13
  Speaker 2: I give fifty.
• 37:14
  Speaker 4: That's not her fault, that's not that's not South Hill's
• 37:17
Speaker 4: fault that she gave a hundred and I only gave fifty.
• 37:20
Speaker 4: If you have a person that's donating something, offering something
• 37:25
  Speaker 4: to you, that's that's that's a benefit.
• 37:27
Speaker 2: That can't be that you know.
• 37:29
Speaker 4: You can't say, well, he can only give medically, he
• 37:32
Speaker 4: can only give ten dollars meals, he can only give
• 37:35
  Speaker 4: five dollars.
• 37:36
Speaker 2: You can't he's feeding kids who are not eating.
• 37:40
Speaker 5: Right, Well, go ahead, you want to finish your point.
• 37:44
Speaker 2: I was just I just think that that's crazy.
• 37:46
Speaker 6: Yeah, And you know, kudos to Teddy because I feel like,
• 37:50
Speaker 6: you know, that was a selfless effort that he did
• 37:51
Speaker 6: to support his team and community.
• 37:53
Speaker 5: Obviously they're under resource community.
• 37:55
Speaker 6: It was his alma mater, by the way, he did
• 37:57
Speaker 6: go to school there, so but somewhere along the line,
• 38:01
Speaker 6: you know, I always got the impression that from from
• 38:04
Speaker 6: some of the reels that I watched and some of
• 38:06
Speaker 6: the articles I read, that someone reported him for this.
• 38:09
Speaker 5: He self reported for whatever.
• 38:12
  Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I.
• 38:12
Speaker 6: Found that out me too, And I even double checked
• 38:16
Speaker 6: it because when I read, when I saw the first source,
• 38:17
Speaker 6: I was like, Okay, I better double check this to
• 38:19
Speaker 6: make sure that this is correct.
• 38:20
Speaker 5: And I did. I did the AI and it said yes,
• 38:22
  Speaker 5: he self reported.
• 38:23
Speaker 6: It because obviously, well evidently Florida does have some rules
• 38:28
Speaker 6: about this, and they have these rules that prohibit coaches
• 38:34
Speaker 6: regardless of the source of funds, you know, to prevent
• 38:38
Speaker 6: wealthy programs from gaining unfair advantage. So evidently there are
• 38:41
  Speaker 6: some rules down there. I don't I don't know what
• 38:43
Speaker 6: West Virginia, I don't guess we have any here like that,
• 38:45
Speaker 6: you know, similar, But so down there he's self reported.
• 38:48
Speaker 6: And now the suspension is they don't know for sure
• 38:52
Speaker 6: how long it's going to be. But of course you
• 38:53
Speaker 6: said he's on a team now, so probably he wouldn't
• 38:55
  Speaker 6: be returning anyway.
• 38:57
Speaker 4: Well from my from what I honest did, I thought
• 38:59
Speaker 4: he was still on a coach I know he got signed.
• 39:03
Speaker 4: Did he get signed to Detroit? Again, I know he
• 39:05
Speaker 4: got signed to a team. I thought he was coaching. No,
• 39:07
Speaker 4: he coaching, but he got signed in the in the playoffs,
• 39:11
Speaker 4: so after the season ended, when the NFL playoffs, So
• 39:13
Speaker 4: he actually got signed to a team, so he was
• 39:16
Speaker 4: he was playing. So again, I don't know if he
• 39:17
Speaker 4: was just signing for that short term or he planned
• 39:19
Speaker 4: to play this upcoming season.
• 39:22
Speaker 5: But it's indefinite anyway. They haven't decided how long the
• 39:24
  Speaker 5: suspension will be.
• 39:26
Speaker 4: So I mean, this is just one of those things
• 39:28
Speaker 4: where I mean, procedurally, like you said, if there are
• 39:31
Speaker 4: some rules that maybe he didn't like procedural and policy wise,
• 39:35
Speaker 4: didn't do some stuff one hundred percent correct, but just
• 39:37
Speaker 4: the look of it when you talk to a like
• 39:39
Speaker 4: I said, an underfunded program, talk about an under underfunded program.
• 39:44
Speaker 4: It's really a selfless act. And it wasn't like he
• 39:47
Speaker 4: was like I said.
• 39:48
Speaker 5: And he was self reported.
• 39:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, he's self reported.
• 39:50
Speaker 4: The benefits were like giving kids rides home because if
• 39:54
Speaker 4: you have that many kids who need an uber home.
• 39:56
  Speaker 5: That's a problem.
• 39:57
Speaker 2: That's a problem that you got.
• 39:59
Speaker 4: Some isshit, right, You're feeding players, you're doing the little
• 40:04
Speaker 4: things that you know, because because I always laugh, and
• 40:07
Speaker 4: this is kind of a side point, I always laugh
• 40:08
Speaker 4: when you know we have these you know, issues around
• 40:12
Speaker 4: you know, whatever, race, gender, whatever, and the people always
• 40:15
Speaker 4: talk about, well, just just go start your home league.
• 40:17
Speaker 4: And what I always tell people, Yeah, do you know
• 40:20
Speaker 4: how incredibly expensive it is to start a football team?
• 40:25
Speaker 4: Like when you just talk about equipment, when you talk
• 40:27
Speaker 4: about trainers, when you talk about coaches, when we talk
• 40:29
Speaker 4: about all these things. So even at a high school level,
• 40:32
Speaker 4: probably even the two hundred thousand dollars two hundred thousand
• 40:35
Speaker 4: that he put in probably wasn't even enough, right, Probably
• 40:38
Speaker 4: was it probably just part right, you know, just to
• 40:41
Speaker 4: have a competitive Florida football team.
• 40:43
Speaker 6: Doesn't this remind you of NIOL at the collegiate level,
• 40:45
Speaker 6: like certain things are allowed and other things aren't, and
• 40:48
Speaker 6: we refer to it as the wild wild West. So
• 40:51
Speaker 6: you know, I think it's kind of like with the
• 40:53
Speaker 6: NIL that we've discussed on here before, guys, that there
• 40:56
Speaker 6: needs to be a balance between you know, upholding those regulars,
• 41:00
Speaker 6: those athletic regulations and supporting student athletes. There's got to
• 41:03
Speaker 6: be a balance. You can't just say the rules are
• 41:06
Speaker 6: the rules. You know, it's not black and white. Sometimes
• 41:08
Speaker 6: sometimes it's gray. And this is a gray area.
• 41:11
  Speaker 4: I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna jump down
• 41:14
Speaker 4: to to youth football, okay, And.
• 41:19
Speaker 2: When you get when you get grown men in a
• 41:22
  Speaker 2: room and.
• 41:25
Speaker 4: Or let me let me rephrase it, when when grown
• 41:28
Speaker 4: men go to a room by themselves, right and decide
• 41:32
Speaker 4: who's gonna play in a Kanall County league, right, whoops,
• 41:37
Speaker 4: and they're going, yeah, they're gonna they're gonna figure out
• 41:41
Speaker 4: who's gonna play and who's not gonna play. Right. And
• 41:44
Speaker 4: so when they when they put these teams out, you know,
• 41:48
Speaker 4: and have been part of it, and and currently still
• 41:52
Speaker 4: part of not allowed to be playing in the Kanall
• 41:55
Speaker 4: Valley at South Charleston our youth football league. We don't
• 41:59
Speaker 4: get the opportunity to play in Kannall County because of
• 42:05
Speaker 4: individual people, just our normal people who have jobs in
• 42:08
Speaker 4: the day that have no right to be able to
• 42:14
Speaker 4: not allow our young kids to play football locally. We're
• 42:19
Speaker 4: we're driving to Parkersburg every other week.
• 42:21
Speaker 6: So what is their benefit, what is their end game
• 42:26
Speaker 6: in your opinion, what is their end game.
• 42:28
Speaker 2: To win for them to have basically.
• 42:33
Speaker 5: At that level, Yes, yes, not about growth developing.
• 42:37
Speaker 2: They don't care play.
• 42:39
Speaker 4: Some of the parents of our kids can't drive, they
• 42:44
Speaker 4: can't get to Parkersburg every other week, they can't get
• 42:47
Speaker 4: to Ohio every other week, and or they're not willing
• 42:50
Speaker 4: to show up if they've got to go there, they
• 42:54
Speaker 4: just assume go somewhere else. And and I and I
• 42:58
Speaker 4: and I tie this because you're talking about you're not
• 43:04
Speaker 4: you're impacting the kids trying to go after if you're
• 43:09
Speaker 4: if your objective is to go after me or a
• 43:12
  Speaker 4: coach or whatever.
• 43:14
Speaker 2: At the end of the.
• 43:14
Speaker 4: Day, who are you hurting? You're hurting these kids. You're
• 43:18
Speaker 4: you're talking about uber rides to go home. You're talking
• 43:21
Speaker 4: about physical therapy to help you get back into the game,
• 43:26
Speaker 4: or to help you even play the game.
• 43:28
Speaker 2: How are you mad?
• 43:30
  Speaker 5: It's a sad don't you think it's sad?
• 43:32
Speaker 2: How are you like making that an illegal thing?
• 43:36
Speaker 4: Are you the only thing I can think of? And
• 43:40
Speaker 4: you know, again he's self reported. It does not I don't.
• 43:44
Speaker 4: From the reports that we have or our root reviewed,
• 43:47
Speaker 4: it doesn't appear that like other teams were reporting him.
• 43:50
Speaker 6: No, no, And that's the way I took it self
• 43:53
Speaker 6: reported no one else. Now that doesn't mean someone wasn't
• 43:58
Speaker 6: calling him saying, hey, you can either do this yourself
• 44:01
Speaker 6: or I'm going to turn you in.
• 44:02
Speaker 5: You know who knows the box story.
• 44:03
Speaker 4: I mean, just to if there was a counter argument.
• 44:07
Speaker 4: Similar situated teams who don't have an NFL player coaching
• 44:12
Speaker 4: their organizations can't do that. So not to say it's
• 44:16
Speaker 4: an unfair advantage per se, but they could argue that
• 44:20
  Speaker 4: it is because hey, I can't do this. I can't
• 44:23
Speaker 4: do this for my So if I come from okay,
• 44:25
Speaker 4: so if I'm playing on a youth football team and
• 44:27
Speaker 4: I'm playing on the west side, Okay, I'm playing on
• 44:31
  Speaker 4: the west side.
• 44:31
Speaker 2: Well i'm talking about Teddy Bridgewater. I'm not talking about
• 44:33
Speaker 2: I know, but I'm just saying.
• 44:34
Speaker 4: I'm just saying that if and where your money comes
• 44:38
Speaker 4: from often is from people who care.
• 44:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true, you know.
• 44:43
Speaker 4: And so now you're going to try to determine a
• 44:46
Speaker 4: person that's caring all but he's too connected, he's too close.
• 44:53
  Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying.
• 44:55
Speaker 6: There's so many it's a Pandora's box that they opened here.
• 44:58
Speaker 6: I mean, you know, will there be regulations everywhere now
• 45:02
Speaker 6: for high school you know athletics.
• 45:05
Speaker 4: You think will and will it be like, hey, you're
• 45:08
Speaker 4: just a rich booster your former alumni.
• 45:10
  Speaker 2: No, you can't give that's.
• 45:11
Speaker 4: Too much, right I mean to me, if you if
• 45:15
Speaker 4: you're doing this, if you're doing this, then you should
• 45:20
Speaker 4: be able to do this to any individual person who's
• 45:22
Speaker 4: given Hollis team money. I can coach, you know, because
• 45:27
Speaker 4: I'm again I'm thinking, you know, when I go down,
• 45:31
Speaker 4: when I get down the state, if I don't have
• 45:33
Speaker 4: sterling sharp funding for equipment and uniforms and all.
• 45:38
Speaker 2: Those kind of things, we ain't making it right now.
• 45:43
Speaker 4: Can somebody come in and say, well, hey that you
• 45:45
Speaker 4: know that that's illegal right there? He's a former player,
• 45:48
Speaker 4: their friends, he can't be he can't be giving them
• 45:51
  Speaker 4: money like that.
• 45:52
Speaker 6: Correct me if I'm if I'm wrong. But isn't that
• 45:54
Speaker 6: the basis of NIO. Wasn't that what was going on
• 45:56
Speaker 6: before they started to try to regulate, was you know,
• 45:59
Speaker 6: your big donors would come in and give money to
• 46:01
Speaker 6: this this you know, foundation, and then the foundation, would
• 46:04
Speaker 6: you know, take the money?
• 46:05
Speaker 5: Is that not right home?
• 46:06
Speaker 2: That's pretty much what it was. I was going to say,
• 46:09
Speaker 2: So if I gave it.
• 46:13
Speaker 4: It is it does it? Does it matter where you
• 46:17
  Speaker 4: use it?
• 46:18
  Speaker 2: Well?
• 46:18
  Speaker 4: I think again that's that's a collegiate example. But I
• 46:21
Speaker 4: think far as high school sports, particularly in the state
• 46:25
Speaker 4: of Florida, it might be some different rules around it.
• 46:27
Speaker 4: So it just depends on that particular jurisdiction as to
• 46:31
Speaker 4: what the rules are of where money can come from,
• 46:33
Speaker 4: because it could be some regulations. But I think all
• 46:36
Speaker 4: in all were probably I think we're all in agreement
• 46:38
Speaker 4: that I think his heart was in the right place.
• 46:40
  Speaker 4: I don't think it was anything malicious. I don't think
• 46:42
Speaker 4: he was buying players. I don't think he was trying
• 46:45
Speaker 4: to entice players from outside of that community to come
• 46:48
Speaker 4: to that school. I think, you know, him being alumni
• 46:52
Speaker 4: was probably just Hey, I just want to make this
• 46:55
Speaker 4: the best I can be. Now, what I would say
• 46:56
Speaker 4: is probably what he should have done is the only
• 47:00
Speaker 4: thing I can think of. He's probably should have filtered
• 47:02
Speaker 4: that money through the booster association if they even had one.
• 47:06
Speaker 4: So that's probably because I think probably what ends up
• 47:09
Speaker 4: happening is he's just kind of piecemelling this money as
• 47:12
Speaker 4: he needs it. That that sort of it creates the
• 47:16
Speaker 4: illusion that possibly something you know, could be going on
• 47:21
Speaker 4: and it's just not done right to your point when
• 47:24
Speaker 4: you start talking about pregame meals that's probably something that
• 47:27
Speaker 4: he's worked out, you know, a deal with with with
• 47:31
Speaker 4: what somebody who's going to feed him, you know, and
• 47:34
Speaker 4: you know how that works.
• 47:36
Speaker 2: So can that look shady? Can that look it could? Just?
• 47:41
Speaker 4: So I would just say, probably to me, and again
• 47:43
Speaker 4: without knowing the details of reading any documents, it's probably
• 47:46
Speaker 4: just the way in which he was spending the money.
• 47:49
Speaker 4: He was just probably spending has he needed instead of
• 47:52
Speaker 4: going through like a quote unquote formal formal process. So
• 47:56
Speaker 4: we think that there's a So I'm assuming that you
• 47:59
Speaker 4: got are saying that there there is a system that.
• 48:03
Speaker 2: He could potentially follow.
• 48:05
Speaker 4: I don't think there is, but I think I think again,
• 48:08
Speaker 4: I boa that I think normally what happens is any
• 48:14
Speaker 4: money it gets spent is filled through through some sort
• 48:16
Speaker 4: of booster association. So it's it's filled through through the boosters,
• 48:20
Speaker 4: and coaches have some limited access to said funds because
• 48:24
Speaker 4: That's how coaches get in trouble when they start to
• 48:25
  Speaker 4: spend that money.
• 48:28
Speaker 2: On things that they shouldn't spend.
• 48:30
Speaker 4: Well, I was, I was. I was guilty at State
• 48:33
Speaker 4: because I kept that money. I kept that money in
• 48:36
  Speaker 4: a in a in an account. I didn't put it
• 48:38
Speaker 4: in the in the W club or any of that
• 48:41
Speaker 4: kind of stuff because I didn't want Because for me,
• 48:43
Speaker 4: when I needed to get equipment, when I needed to
• 48:45
Speaker 4: buy this, or I needed to buy that, I needed
• 48:47
  Speaker 4: to get it.
• 48:48
Speaker 5: To self report, I'm self reported.
• 48:51
  Speaker 4: But but like I said, I'm sure it's I mean,
• 48:53
Speaker 4: like I said, I'm just guessing that there's some sort
• 48:55
  Speaker 4: of process.
• 48:56
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 48:57
Speaker 4: But all in all, I'll just say I appears he
• 49:00
Speaker 4: was just doing the right thing for those kids. So yeah,
• 49:02
Speaker 4: my hat's off to him simply for the fact that
• 49:06
Speaker 4: he would he would feel that passionate about his team
• 49:11
Speaker 4: and the players on that team, and he knew what
• 49:14
Speaker 4: the challenges were for each and every one of them,
• 49:17
Speaker 4: and he took care of that. He took time out
• 49:21
Speaker 4: of his life to take care of those particular kids
• 49:26
Speaker 4: and they win a championship. To me, my hat's off
• 49:28
Speaker 4: to him in more respect than you can possibly imagine.
• 49:31
Speaker 6: For sure, And just to you know, reiterate what we've
• 49:34
Speaker 6: talked about, there's a big difference between gifting an xbox
• 49:37
Speaker 6: or something to a kid and providing you know, a meal,
• 49:40
Speaker 6: a basic necessity of life.
• 49:42
Speaker 4: Right, and if something like that would have happened, it
• 49:44
Speaker 4: would have definitely been in the article, you know.
• 49:47
Speaker 2: So, so I'm pretty sure that we were a we
• 49:51
  Speaker 2: were a.
• 49:53
Speaker 4: I would say we're right on spot on here on
• 49:57
Speaker 4: the things that they've listed, at least that that to me,
• 50:01
Speaker 4: I think it's every one of those are worthy calls
• 50:04
Speaker 4: for a coach, I agree. So all right, well, ladies
• 50:08
  Speaker 4: and gentlemen, we've had we've had a couple of a
• 50:12
Speaker 4: couple of or well, I guess three great topics today
• 50:15
Speaker 4: and and we might have even found some common ground,
• 50:20
Speaker 4: you know, may there were VI might have agreed on
• 50:24
Speaker 4: a few things, you know, because that usually different happens.
• 50:28
Speaker 2: But we hope that you come back and check
• 50:30
Speaker 4: Us out again next week, and uh, we'll get out
• 50:33
Speaker 4: of here and we'll be back
