- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist, and also
- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from inside the studio.
- 0:31And we're inside the studio today because I'm sharing with
- 0:33you progress on something. I talked last week about doing 1
- 0:39new thing. Maybe it was a week before, I
- 0:40can't remember, about doing 1 new thing every month.
- 0:43Set yourself up whether it's a new food, a new project, a new,
- 0:48you know, hobby, whatever it might be, do one new thing.
- 0:51And so my new thing, one of them was the jump to do jump rope and
- 0:56my ropes arrived and I have watched all of the app in the
- 1:00beginning that you may be saying, why is she taking a
- 1:03course to jump rope? Well, this person who's teaching
- 1:06the course is incredible at jumping rope and I was never
- 1:09able to jump rope. I mean, I could if I, I was able
- 1:12to as a child. The problem was, wasn't like
- 1:14someone was forbidding me from doing it.
- 1:16I physically just could not figure out how to be coordinated
- 1:19enough to do it. And it has always bugged me that
- 1:22I was uncoordinated as a like I would trip often, I would fall.
- 1:27I was not a sports kid. I didn't get picked for teams
- 1:30except if they wanted to like have somebody to, you know, keep
- 1:33count of things and whatnot. Just not me, all the artsy kid,
- 1:36nothing to do with this other stuff.
- 1:38But in any event, the jump rope was always a problem because I
- 1:42couldn't participate. It just it didn't work with my
- 1:45body. I was just too awkward with it.
- 1:49So now I see this person doing these amazing jump rope trips
- 1:53and I was like, okay, I'm going to take his course.
- 1:56I'm going to support him and what he's doing.
- 1:58People support me and buying my courses.
- 2:00I'm going to do the same for this person.
- 2:02I'm going to buy his course and I got it and my ropes arrived
- 2:04and he's got it all broken down. Shows you how to, you know, set
- 2:08the ropes up the whole thing. And I was really uncomfortable.
- 2:14I want you to know I was really uncomfortable.
- 2:17I have not told my family I'm doing this.
- 2:20I'm telling the world I'm doing this.
- 2:22But my, my husband, my son, nobody in my, my vortex knows
- 2:26I'm doing this right now. And the reason is I didn't want
- 2:29the question of how's it going? I just wanted to work on it.
- 2:33And all of you knowing about it is going to be much different
- 2:37than having someone right in your house know about it.
- 2:39So here I am. Put the computer up, get the
- 2:42screen up and I watch the first one and I'm like, oh, this, this
- 2:46looks like it's going to be really hard.
- 2:48Like I he's, he's so good. But all of a sudden he started
- 2:53teaching it in such basic elements.
- 2:57Making sure one, you have the right rope is all the difference
- 3:01in the world. 2, making sure that it's the right length for
- 3:05yourself. Three, making sure you
- 3:07understand the difference of the bounces.
- 3:10So he breaks it down to very simple steps.
- 3:14When you see this, this is how you handle it.
- 3:16When you do this, this is how you handle it.
- 3:18When the rope comes around, this is what you should do.
- 3:21And it was fundamentals. So it comes back to those basic
- 3:25fundamentals. Do you have the fundamentals?
- 3:27So my realization is 1. I never had the fundamentals. 2,
- 3:32I don't know what it is when you're a kid.
- 3:34Maybe people just see you and think, oh, you should
- 3:36automatically be able to do it, just do it.
- 3:38But no, it doesn't work that way.
- 3:40And I, I, I watched the fundamentals video.
- 3:43I'm not exaggerating when I tell you I watched it about 20 times.
- 3:47It was a 3 minute video. I just kept going back and
- 3:50watching it back and watching it back and watching it.
- 3:52I wasn't even trying it at that point.
- 3:54I was just taking in the information because I learn like
- 3:58that. So if I really need to know
- 3:59something I will just reread it. That's why I read books over the
- 4:02same book over and over. That's why I'll watch the same
- 4:05video over and over because I'm embodying what they're teaching.
- 4:08So now I'm watching a professional who is super
- 4:11successful and has millions of followers for his jumping rope,
- 4:15and I'm watching what he's saying as fundamentals.
- 4:17And I do that day one. I'm just watching, watching,
- 4:20watching. So today is the first day of
- 4:23skipping and I get it and I'm like, OK, I'm ready to skip my
- 4:27rope is the right length. I've watched the videos.
- 4:30I put on day one and it, you know, it's 15 minutes and it's a
- 4:34minute of skipping, a minute break, minute skipping, minute
- 4:37break, minute skipping, minute break.
- 4:39And it goes on like that. And I am so excited to go in and
- 4:46try it. And I start spinning the rope
- 4:49and I was like, Oh my gosh, I can do this.
- 4:51I'm listening to what he's saying.
- 4:53And I watched the fundamental so much where my elbows were, how
- 4:57my bounce was, how high my knees were going.
- 5:00I was paying attention to all of it, my posture.
- 5:03And I was able to go through the first day and I got halfway
- 5:09through before I was like, wow, OK, this is a workout, This is a
- 5:14workout. And I paused and I said, I'm
- 5:16going to shoot the, the podcast right now.
- 5:18So I got through the first day halfway and now I'm shooting the
- 5:22podcast to share it with all of you.
- 5:24I have and I was winded and I walk a lot.
- 5:27I walked 25,000 steps a day roughly.
- 5:30And I'll tell you I was winded and I what a workout.
- 5:34I feel it in my shoulders and I was only halfway through so and
- 5:39I was just doing basic bouncing. So the point of this is trying
- 5:43something new leads to a whole bunch of different other things,
- 5:47like potentially healing something from the past, which
- 5:51is so exciting to me that I can be athletic and not be
- 5:55uncoordinated. When you have the right
- 5:57instructions and it doesn't, it always come down to that.
- 5:59When you have the right instructions, when you have the
- 6:01right things in line, everything changes.
- 6:04So my friends, I'm going to go back and finish jumping rope
- 6:08now, and I hope you have a blessed day with your whatever
- 6:11your new thing is that you're trying, and I hope it helps you
- 6:14move forward as much as mine did with me today.
- 6:17All right, I will keep you updated on jump roping and I
- 6:19will see you all tomorrow. Have a blessed day.
- 6:21Bye.
