Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark cater.
- 0:17Speaker 1: On today's episode, we are discussing Hope Valley Season one,
- 0:20Speaker 1: episode eight, the season finale, which is currently available to
- 0:25Speaker 1: stream on Hallmark Plus. Last week we had wondered is
- 0:29Speaker 1: this show renewed? And the answer is yes, it has
- 0:31Speaker 1: been renewed for season two. We dropped that information over
- 0:34Speaker 1: on Girls Gone Hallmark dot com. We are looking to
- 0:38Speaker 1: a season two. In twenty twenty seven, Hallmark did say
- 0:42Speaker 1: it had record breaking viewership, but they did not release
- 0:45Speaker 1: what those numbers are. And again, this is a Hallmark
- 0:47Speaker 1: Plus exclusive, so I have no idea what that means.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Are you glad this series.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Is coming back?
- 0:53Speaker 1: Before I answer that one is, of course I had
- 0:56Speaker 1: record breaking. They don't have anything else over there, so
- 1:00Speaker 1: sar are like, yeah, this is great. Maybe it did
- 1:01Speaker 1: better than when Finding Mister Christmas was exclusively running Chicken
- 1:06Speaker 1: Sisters or Mistletoe Mistletoe murders originally ran over there. Sure
- 1:15Speaker 1: we don't know the dynamics start working? Is that that's
- 1:18Speaker 1: not the word I'm looking for we don't know the
- 1:20Speaker 1: parameters or exactly anyway, whatever. Yes, I like the series.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I'm glad it's coming back for a season two. I
- 1:26Speaker 1: will watch a season two.
- 1:28Speaker 2: If you are watching along with us, we do want
- 1:30Speaker 2: to hear from you.
- 1:30Speaker 1: You can find us on Instagram or email us hello
- 1:33Speaker 1: at Girls gonehalmewark dot com. You can even drop us
- 1:37Speaker 1: a voicemail nine four nine three two nine eight zero
- 1:39Speaker 1: nine zero with your thoughts on this series. Again, we
- 1:43Speaker 1: are not when calls the Heart Watchers, so we love
- 1:46Speaker 1: your insights onto how this show lines up with that series.
- 1:51Speaker 2: In ways that we may not realize. Can I read
- 1:55Speaker 2: an email real quick? Yeah, that we got.
- 1:58Speaker 1: It's kind of adjacent to Hope Valley. Uh huh, it's
- 2:02Speaker 1: from era, she writes, Hi, Megan and Wendy. Sorry, it's
- 2:05Speaker 1: been so long that I've emailed or reached out. I
- 2:07Speaker 1: got consumed by Doctor Quinn and then by Little House
- 2:10Speaker 1: on the Prairie. I'm currently listening to your episode of
- 2:13Speaker 1: the latest review of Hope Valley eighteen seventy four. I
- 2:15Speaker 1: heard you mentioned that there is a Little House on
- 2:17Speaker 1: the Prairie reboot coming. I had no idea, and I'm
- 2:20Speaker 1: so thrilled. I don't have Netflix, but now that I
- 2:24Speaker 1: know it's coming, I will be getting it so I
- 2:26Speaker 1: can watch the show. Can I please please request that
- 2:30Speaker 1: you ladies do a review of the new Little House.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Show that's coming.
- 2:35Speaker 1: You can certainly request it. How many episodes? I don't
- 2:39Speaker 1: know when Netflix?
- 2:41Speaker 2: Who knows?
- 2:41Speaker 1: Are they going to drop them all at one time?
- 2:43Speaker 1: If that's the case, that doesn't work for our schedule unfortunately,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and it doesn't on the back end of things like
- 2:49Speaker 1: we don't get the listeners unless it's a week to
- 2:52Speaker 1: an episodic drop. Yeah, that is correct. So it drops
- 2:55Speaker 1: on July ninth on Netflix. Of course it will be
- 2:59Speaker 1: eight episodes. The series has already been renewed for a
- 3:03Speaker 1: second season. It was filled in Winnipeg, Canada. Do you
- 3:06Speaker 1: think we're going to see our buddy Erica Tavley making
- 3:08Speaker 1: an appearance on the Prairie?
- 3:10Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Is there a list of who's in it? Is it
- 3:14Speaker 1: a retelling of the original like Laura Ingles Wilderer story.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Netflix will drop all eight episodes of its first season
- 3:22Speaker 1: at once July ninth, twenty twenty six. Sorry, er Yeah,
- 3:27Speaker 1: the problem is people won't listen because they're gonna be
- 3:31Speaker 1: eight weeks ahead of us, like they're gonna watch it
- 3:33Speaker 1: all in the first week. Might we be doing a
- 3:35Speaker 1: first impression of the first episode. I'd be open to that. Yeah,
- 3:39Speaker 1: I am interested in watching the show. That new adaptation
- 3:44Speaker 1: focuses on the Ingles family journey to the prairie.
- 3:47Speaker 2: So yeah, it's just the same thing. Who's the cast?
- 3:53Speaker 1: Creator is Rebecca Snushine, stars Ryan Robbins, Rebecca amsalag McLean Fish.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I unfortunately do not know the those names.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I know there was a Hallmark player who was in
- 4:05Speaker 1: that show, Warren Christy.
- 4:07Speaker 2: That's it. I wonder if he has any like fire
- 4:09Speaker 2: kiss scenes.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I do want to also mention another message that we
- 4:14Speaker 1: got regarding Hope Valley on Instagram from Michelle. You had asked,
- 4:20Speaker 1: if we're getting more seasons, what are we doing with
- 4:22Speaker 1: the Hope Valley eighteen seventy four of it all? So
- 4:25Speaker 1: Michelle said, I got to thinking after your last episode,
- 4:27Speaker 1: wondering if the series would only take place during the
- 4:29Speaker 1: year eighteen seventy four. Then I thought, maybe that's the
- 4:33Speaker 1: year the town was established, and I found this Google
- 4:36Speaker 1: overview aioverview. It says the Hallmark series focuses on the early,
- 4:41Speaker 1: rugged frontier days of the settlement, hence the eighteen seventy
- 4:45Speaker 1: four roots. So she says, maybe eighteen seventy four doesn't
- 4:48Speaker 1: necessarily mean when the entire series takes place, but that's
- 4:52Speaker 1: when Hope Valley became a town with the building of
- 4:55Speaker 1: the boarding house. Got it that that makes sense for me? Yeah,
- 5:00Speaker 1: you can't stay in eighteen seventy four forever because you know,
- 5:02Speaker 1: people get older, children get older. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, it's
- 5:07Speaker 1: the biggest problem. Well, and we need more than a
- 5:09Speaker 1: year's worth of happenings, right, Are you ready for synopsis?
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yes, ma'am.
- 5:15Speaker 1: For episode eight, All that Glitters gearing it for the
- 5:19Speaker 1: boarding houses grand opening, Rebecca and Tom grow closer while
- 5:23Speaker 1: investigating a series of robberies. Olivia struggles with a big decision.
- 5:29Speaker 1: All of our regulars are back for the season finale episode.
- 5:32Speaker 1: The only new face we have is Everick Golding as
- 5:34Speaker 1: Leroy Tidwell and the return of Tyler Roberge, who appears
- 5:37Speaker 1: as the other mounting Nick we saw back in episode four.
- 5:41Speaker 1: For a complete cast list, as well as director and writer,
- 5:44Speaker 1: visit our website Girls Gone Hallmark dot com. We also
- 5:47Speaker 1: have links to each episode this season in case you've
- 5:50Speaker 1: missed one. Hey, Waitni, what is your first impression of
- 5:54Speaker 1: Hope Valley eighteen seventy four, Episode eight, Well, the real
- 5:57Speaker 1: cliffhanger this season is whether Olivia has a single thought
- 6:01Speaker 1: that isn't influenced by a man.
- 6:04Speaker 2: My first impression is people of Hope Ally can get
- 6:06Speaker 2: down to the fiddle. Especially is her name Peggy? His wife? Yeah, Peggy.
- 6:14Speaker 2: She was just like groom into her husband's tunes.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Like there was times I was like, is she dancing
- 6:21Speaker 1: to the fiddle or just too like somebody vibes. I
- 6:26Speaker 1: was gonna say, the pa who has to hold the
- 6:28Speaker 1: wagon and is now in charge of the ox coord
- 6:31Speaker 1: you know.
- 6:33Speaker 2: She's got a little air pod in vibes. Loved it,
- 6:38Speaker 2: loved it. Okay, what did you like about this episode?
- 6:41Speaker 1: Well, overall, I thought this was a fitting season finale.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I liked some of the forward progress we get on
- 6:50Speaker 1: our stories, but it does leave me wanting more. So
- 6:54Speaker 1: we get some resolution. The prospectors and the the ranchers
- 7:01Speaker 1: come together in a way, they all party together. But
- 7:05Speaker 1: I like the parting line where Doyle's like I bought
- 7:08Speaker 1: LeRoy's land. He's like I told you, I'm coming for you,
- 7:11Speaker 1: like just as we got them coming together, bam.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I loved it.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Well, I guess that means that Doyle will be back
- 7:19Speaker 1: next next season in.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Likely a bigger role.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I'm guessing the antagonistic Tom Moore Foyle. I really loved
- 7:30Speaker 1: the Tom and Rebecca of at all in this episode. Finally,
- 7:35Speaker 1: you can just see in so many different moments that
- 7:40Speaker 1: Tom really has feelings with Rebecca.
- 7:43Speaker 2: And you know, I mean, some of it's cheesy.
- 7:45Speaker 1: He's like, I don't understand the point of a table runner,
- 7:47Speaker 1: and she's like, they just warm up the room, and
- 7:49Speaker 1: he says, you do.
- 7:49Speaker 2: That all on your own.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's a little cheesy, but I'm into it.
- 7:55Speaker 2: It's nice.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I wouldn't turn down that compliment from somebody like Ben Airs.
- 8:01Speaker 1: He has a moment with Hattie or Hattie's like, you know,
- 8:04Speaker 1: even when they're gone, the love still remains and he
- 8:06Speaker 1: has this like light bulb over his head happening. But
- 8:09Speaker 1: I of course especially liked the moment while they're in
- 8:12Speaker 1: the woods they're chasing mister Maxwell and her back's up
- 8:15Speaker 1: against a tree and.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's like, are they gonna GISs?
- 8:18Speaker 1: And she just says, I don't really know how to
- 8:20Speaker 1: move forward, and that was really nice. Yeah, I think
- 8:23Speaker 1: so too, And then they dance and she puts.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Her head on his very sweet. I really liked it.
- 8:30Speaker 2: All good stuff.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I know. I was like, finally we're getting there, like
- 8:33Speaker 1: we did start out as trenemy. Sure, we are finally
- 8:38Speaker 1: getting there for sure, I think, especially after last week's big,
- 8:42Speaker 1: you know, hostage situation, Like I think that brought them
- 8:46Speaker 1: closer together for sure. But it did take Tom eight
- 8:50Speaker 1: episodes to kind of see who Rebecca is, Yeah, understand
- 8:54Speaker 1: who she is, respect who she is as.
- 8:57Speaker 2: You know, what kind of a modern day a guy ver.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Yes, that's nice, but I'm it feels earned like it finally.
- 9:07Speaker 1: That's why I like when when they're slow dancing and
- 9:10Speaker 1: she was just like, you know, so excited that she
- 9:13Speaker 1: has to ring back and she's like, I'll eventually like.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Stop wearing it, Like she's letting him know, like available,
- 9:21Speaker 2: I'm not going to keep it forever.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that was great, And I thought it was great
- 9:24Speaker 1: that she comes to the realization when Leroy says, oh,
- 9:28Speaker 1: Tom suddenly ran into money troubles and she knows.
- 9:31Speaker 2: What he did. Yeah, I thought that was all great. Yep,
- 9:34Speaker 2: I agree. Agree.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I'm really pleased that we finally have some real stakes
- 9:41Speaker 1: for Rebecca, Like this is what the season has been
- 9:44Speaker 1: building towards, Like for eight episodes, seven episodes, she's been
- 9:49Speaker 1: saying like I'm afraid of Jim's family and their influence,
- 9:51Speaker 1: really like the influence stuff, Like she has made it
- 9:55Speaker 1: clear that his family has money and they can influence
- 9:59Speaker 1: dirty cops I'm quoting and what they're capable of, and
- 10:03Speaker 1: we're finally seeing some like tangible.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Fears come true. I guess.
- 10:10Speaker 1: So while the theft accusation that she's been accused of.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Like what did she steal? I don't know if I
- 10:17Speaker 2: fully buy it, because let me talk it through for
- 10:19Speaker 2: a second. What could she have.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Taken that is so big that she's been out on
- 10:27Speaker 1: the run and the family would have to go after
- 10:30Speaker 1: her to get it.
- 10:31Speaker 2: That's a great question, Like what could it be?
- 10:34Speaker 1: Or are they just being revengeful because she left or
- 10:38Speaker 1: they didn't like her? Ever, See, I don't think she
- 10:43Speaker 1: stole anything. I agreed it wasn't hers. My feeling is
- 10:47Speaker 1: that the family is saying that was rightfully ours, that
- 10:50Speaker 1: was a family something or other. It belonged to us. Yes,
- 10:54Speaker 1: it belonged to our son, but when he died, that's
- 10:56Speaker 1: ours what. But I don't know, But I'm Sarah No,
- 11:00Speaker 1: and I don't I don't think. I don't think it's
- 11:02Speaker 1: a case of like she broke into their house and
- 11:04Speaker 1: stole something. I think it was something that belonged to
- 11:06Speaker 1: her and Jim and that his terrible parents think she's
- 11:09Speaker 1: not good enough, and so now in their vengefulness, they're saying,
- 11:13Speaker 1: we're gonna get you.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I definitely think like her reaction was of surprise. Yeah,
- 11:21Speaker 1: she didn't think that was what they were going to
- 11:22Speaker 1: get her for. I didn't think they were. I didn't
- 11:26Speaker 1: think they I don't think she thought they were coming.
- 11:28Speaker 2: For her at all.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Well, she finally allowed herself a little happiness and she
- 11:32Speaker 1: had settled in.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I was actually surprised too. I thought they were coming
- 11:35Speaker 2: for Tom for some reason.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Oh oh, but I didn't know, like what for. I
- 11:39Speaker 1: thought like that was going to be the big So
- 11:42Speaker 1: you forgot about the in laws kind of, Yeah.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Kind of.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, they're going to arrest Tom for something,
- 11:48Speaker 1: but then they just got her. Do you find it
- 11:51Speaker 1: interesting that when she's being taken away. She says, take
- 11:52Speaker 1: care of her Tom or protect her Tom, not Hattie,
- 11:56Speaker 1: not Olivia.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I do. Yeah, she trusts Tom.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Ye. Tom has established himself as trustworthy.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I think. Yeah. I thought it was kind of interesting.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Then he's like protect her. That was interesting.
- 12:09Speaker 1: But also I think they have I think Tom is
- 12:13Speaker 1: aware of Rebecca's concern for Sarah. Yes, that's true. Tom
- 12:18Speaker 1: knows the whole story. Yes, I want to talk about
- 12:21Speaker 1: Sarah for a second. Oh that's interesting. Actually, yes, so
- 12:24Speaker 1: talk about Sarah. But was this their plan all along?
- 12:27Speaker 1: They accused Rebecca theft, she's taken to prison. Now they
- 12:30Speaker 1: can sweep in and come take Sarah back. Maybe, So
- 12:34Speaker 1: let's talk about Sarah.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I this child has endured so much m hm, which
- 12:40Speaker 1: eleven twelve, Like her dad died, they've been on the run.
- 12:46Speaker 2: You know, grief secrecy.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Now this like kind of public humiliation, like your mom
- 12:52Speaker 1: is being like not in cuffs because Alexander Vaughn like
- 12:56Speaker 1: was like that's not necessary.
- 12:57Speaker 2: But I feel bad for Sarah.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And I have said this all season long, like Sarah
- 13:02Speaker 1: plays such an adult role and she is a child,
- 13:04Speaker 1: and now she's gonna have to deal with like her
- 13:06Speaker 1: mother being in Hope Valley jail or wherever they're gonna be,
- 13:10Speaker 1: and like maybe her grandparents are going to come and
- 13:13Speaker 1: try to like get her back, and maybe you're right
- 13:16Speaker 1: that Tom is going to protect her.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I don't know, but.
- 13:19Speaker 1: It's like, poor freaking Sarah, Poor Sarah. What becomes of Sarah?
- 13:25Speaker 1: How many years does this before one calls the heart?
- 13:27Speaker 1: We don't know, we don't know, Like we know Ned,
- 13:31Speaker 1: the baby Ned becomes whatever, But this Sarah like too old?
- 13:35Speaker 2: No, I don't I don't know. I don't know is Sarah?
- 13:38Speaker 2: And Lynn calls the heart? Let us know? Email us,
- 13:41Speaker 2: email us. What other likes did you have? Like Clayton
- 13:48Speaker 2: gets a little bit of a glow up. So I know.
- 13:52Speaker 1: We have not been particularly kind about the Olivia love
- 13:55Speaker 1: triangle of it all, mostly because I think Olivia is
- 13:58Speaker 1: a talented woman with a lot to offer, but her
- 14:01Speaker 1: storyline has been largely reduced to her relationship.
- 14:04Speaker 2: With these two men.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yes, and your point is a good one. She makes
- 14:08Speaker 1: the decisions based on the opinions of these men when
- 14:12Speaker 1: they're dancing. She spent a lot more time with Alexander
- 14:15Speaker 1: in recent episodes. We've seen that relationship developing but the
- 14:19Speaker 1: Clayton relationship has.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Much more history.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Sure, and Clayton practices his dancing ahead of time and
- 14:27Speaker 1: Peggy helps him, which was very sweet. And the difference
- 14:30Speaker 1: in the way the two men respond to her when
- 14:33Speaker 1: she says I'm moving away, Alexander's like, well, you gotta go,
- 14:36Speaker 1: see you later, and Clayton was like, originally said you
- 14:40Speaker 1: can't go, but if you go, you must come back.
- 14:41Speaker 1: You're so important to this town. You're such a big
- 14:44Speaker 1: part of making it what it is. I'm glad that
- 14:46Speaker 1: Clayton was finally able to say the things that he
- 14:49Speaker 1: needed to say to Olivia. I think the way that's staged,
- 14:53Speaker 1: it's telling us that Clayton's the guy. But now maybe
- 14:57Speaker 1: I like it less, thinking like Olivia should have been
- 15:00Speaker 1: able to get there without the input.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Of these men. Yeah, I'm gonna talk about it, my wishes. Okay,
- 15:06Speaker 2: I'm gonna talk about it and the wishes.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Finally, for me, finales can be kind of hit or miss.
- 15:13Speaker 1: This is a finale that leaves me wanting to watch
- 15:16Speaker 1: season two, which is a clear sign to me like
- 15:19Speaker 1: this season overall worked. I mean I had some criticisms
- 15:22Speaker 1: throughout it. We've talked about it, but I'm genuinely curious, like,
- 15:29Speaker 1: what exactly happened with Jim's family? How deep does this go?
- 15:33Speaker 1: What's gonna happen to Sarah? I'm interested? So I'm glad
- 15:38Speaker 1: I got renewed for a season two. Let's take a
- 15:40Speaker 1: quick break and then we're gonna come back and talk
- 15:41Speaker 1: about our wishes. Hey, Wendy, what did you wish for
- 15:52Speaker 1: in this episode of Hope? Ally, let's talk about Olivia? Okay, okay,
- 15:57Speaker 1: So this frustrates me as a modern woman watching this, right,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and we know that I'm an old, married lady, but
- 16:05Speaker 1: and I also get the time period that Olivia is in, right,
- 16:10Speaker 1: but it is frustrating for me watching Olivia wait for
- 16:15Speaker 1: a man to define her future. Yes, we have Clayton
- 16:20Speaker 1: who's like, no, you belong here. The town means so much.
- 16:23Speaker 1: That feels like putting a lot of guilt on her
- 16:26Speaker 1: to leave and pursue her dreams when her mom has
- 16:29Speaker 1: already said like I give you wings, go fly baby.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And then we have Alexander who is like, yeah, go,
- 16:38Speaker 1: And I truly think maybe she wanted Alexander to say like, no,
- 16:43Speaker 1: you should stay sure, and.
- 16:45Speaker 2: You know, you know when you're young and you really
- 16:48Speaker 2: want like.
- 16:48Speaker 1: A man to chase after you, not to go. I
- 16:52Speaker 1: think that's what she was hoping for from Alexander, and
- 16:55Speaker 1: he's like, no, you gotta go, like bye, whatever. And
- 16:58Speaker 1: I think she was disappointed in that. I do too,
- 17:01Speaker 1: and so that is frustrating for me to watch. It's like, girl,
- 17:05Speaker 1: have your own this is your life, right, but of course,
- 17:09Speaker 1: like I'm trying to take in the time period here,
- 17:13Speaker 1: So that is really frustrating for me to watch that unfold.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I agree with you, and I can't.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I can't honestly decide how I feel about it, because
- 17:22Speaker 1: on the one hand, I think you're right. She was
- 17:24Speaker 1: disappointed by Alexander sang goh, and she said I may
- 17:26Speaker 1: never come back, and he said, well, okay, okay.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Basically, whereas Clayton.
- 17:31Speaker 1: It's interesting because I feel like Clayton gives such a
- 17:34Speaker 1: more impassioned speech to her, and yes, he does want
- 17:37Speaker 1: her to stay, and he does. Maybe there's a little
- 17:39Speaker 1: bit of guilt there which one of them is speaking
- 17:43Speaker 1: more to what is best for her.
- 17:46Speaker 2: It is the question that I don't.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Because Clayton, yes, he wants her to stay for him,
- 17:51Speaker 1: but he also wants. He says, like, you're such an
- 17:53Speaker 1: integral part of the town, and I think that's very true.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I don't think that's just lip service, Like she's very
- 17:58Speaker 1: important to these people, she has this relationship with Sarah.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Is he's saying that because he's incapable of saying like,
- 18:05Speaker 1: I want you to stay, I want to be with you.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Oh when I make a fan.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I mean, I didn't think that that was not indicated
- 18:11Speaker 1: by his I think it was indicated, but still, like
- 18:15Speaker 1: it's still a mixed message. Yes, you know, oh, the
- 18:18Speaker 1: town need you to stay. You're such an integral part
- 18:21Speaker 1: of the town. Like, Yes, I don't believe his lip
- 18:23Speaker 1: service either, but also maybe it's easier for him to
- 18:26Speaker 1: say that than his true feelings. Yes, he still potentially
- 18:31Speaker 1: could be rejected because Alexander m we don't get any
- 18:36Speaker 1: actual we don't know what she's going to do, but
- 18:38Speaker 1: she's going to be there in the next season.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Let's talk about mister Maxwell.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Yeah, so we have not watched When Calls Heart other
- 18:44Speaker 1: than the first episode.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Mister Maxwell was looking for coal.
- 18:48Speaker 1: This feels just like a nice little this is how
- 18:51Speaker 1: we're going to connect the two.
- 18:53Speaker 2: This place becomes coal.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Valley before I think I think Hope Valley is what
- 19:00Speaker 1: comes after Coal Valley, which is very interesting to me.
- 19:02Speaker 1: I don't fully understand, but that storyline was a little
- 19:06Speaker 1: bit disjointed for me.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I agree.
- 19:09Speaker 1: He was like, look at all these rocks, I'm looking
- 19:11Speaker 1: for coal. I feel like it's just kind of like,
- 19:13Speaker 1: this is the direction we're going next season.
- 19:15Speaker 2: We're setting it up.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Oh, do you think they'll move away from like the
- 19:18Speaker 1: gold mining stuff, perhaps because we know that that's the
- 19:22Speaker 1: direction the town goes, you know, when we meet up
- 19:25Speaker 1: with them in the when calls the Heart era, so
- 19:28Speaker 1: there's gonna be prospectors coming looking for coal eventually. Well
- 19:32Speaker 1: we know it's a coal mining town in the future,
- 19:34Speaker 1: so yeah, maybe that's how they It's a little more
- 19:38Speaker 1: steady work, but very dangerous obviously because there's been that
- 19:41Speaker 1: big explosion. At the beginning of the series. When Rebecca
- 19:47Speaker 1: went into his room, I was like, girl.
- 19:49Speaker 2: You're gonna get caught. Yeah's care stressed for her?
- 19:52Speaker 1: First of all, I was like, okay, I can, I can.
- 19:55Speaker 1: I can justify why she's in there. This is like
- 19:59Speaker 1: her war house and if it's like a hotel, right,
- 20:02Speaker 1: she's bringing fresh sheets and towels in there. But she's
- 20:06Speaker 1: snooping around and I have nightmares about like stuff like this,
- 20:09Speaker 1: Like I have nightmares about the hotel workers doing this
- 20:12Speaker 1: no no, of being caught around and somebody's like, you know,
- 20:15Speaker 1: absolutely me too well. And the one thing, she closed
- 20:18Speaker 1: the door and I was like, well, I'm not going
- 20:19Speaker 1: to hear him coming. Yeah, what are you doing snoop better?
- 20:23Speaker 1: I just made me nervous. I did like that. She
- 20:26Speaker 1: didn't even apologize for it. He was like, you went
- 20:28Speaker 1: into my room, and she was like, that is my room, sir.
- 20:31Speaker 1: And while I agree, was his back yeah, so eh,
- 20:38Speaker 1: but he doesn't appear to be faking his British accent. No,
- 20:41Speaker 1: I do feel like I understand why they introduced him,
- 20:45Speaker 1: but I also do feel is a little bit oddly timed.
- 20:49Speaker 1: We're in such a late part of the season and
- 20:53Speaker 1: then you put this kind of character in there, which
- 20:55Speaker 1: I guess raises suspicions. Could he be the one stealing
- 21:02Speaker 1: the gold for other prospectors? So I understand, even though
- 21:05Speaker 1: like I feel like the payoff seems a little like, okay, well,
- 21:09Speaker 1: let's just put that in our back pocket for now,
- 21:11Speaker 1: Like Cole is coming Yeah, I think I am glad
- 21:15Speaker 1: that mister Maxwell wasn't the one responsible for stealing the gold, though.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I think it's an interesting twist to make it, Jeremiah.
- 21:22Speaker 1: It kind of fuels the fire of the ranchers versus
- 21:25Speaker 1: the yeah, prospectors, and how the prospectors are like, well,
- 21:29Speaker 1: he was a rancher first. I think it makes a
- 21:31Speaker 1: lot more sense than having this outsider come in and
- 21:33Speaker 1: just start stealing from them. Yeah, it's really interesting when
- 21:36Speaker 1: you just talk about that rancher versus prospectors. I mean
- 21:40Speaker 1: that's basically like the core conflict of any sort of
- 21:46Speaker 1: narrative really, like even today it could be like whatever,
- 21:50Speaker 1: So like, oh, that's interest Sam, Like I hadn't thought
- 21:52Speaker 1: about ranchers versus prospectors. I mean we have talked about
- 21:56Speaker 1: it because Tom and Doyle have like teed off all
- 21:59Speaker 1: season long. But now we're going to get to like
- 22:01Speaker 1: a wider spread community versus community, right, so interesting any more.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Wishes just one?
- 22:08Speaker 1: And we kind of talked about it, I mean, more
- 22:10Speaker 1: contacts into Rebecca's past. I guess we're going to get
- 22:13Speaker 1: that in season two.
- 22:15Speaker 2: As a viewer, I need.
- 22:16Speaker 1: To be let in a little bit. But she doesn't
- 22:19Speaker 1: need to tell everybody else like what her business is
- 22:22Speaker 1: and what she's running from. But as a viewer, I
- 22:24Speaker 1: need to understand if she's like a good person on
- 22:27Speaker 1: the run or like a bad person, Like I don't
- 22:29Speaker 1: care if you're writing a diary or writing a letter
- 22:33Speaker 1: to somebody or.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Or a flashback.
- 22:36Speaker 1: A flashback would be great, Like give me something that
- 22:40Speaker 1: I can understand what's happening. I don't like being like
- 22:43Speaker 1: in the dark all season long about like what Rebecca
- 22:47Speaker 1: is afraid of right as we take her, you know,
- 22:50Speaker 1: unless we assume she's a reliable narrator in what she's
- 22:52Speaker 1: telling Tom. Yeah, but she's basically just telling them like
- 22:54Speaker 1: oh these rich people are scary but why but why?
- 22:59Speaker 2: So well, let's talk. Did you see that I only
- 23:02Speaker 2: have one?
- 23:03Speaker 1: Okay?
- 23:03Speaker 2: And it's kind of silly.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Actually it's when Rebecca is being taken away and Sarah's
- 23:11Speaker 1: like mom, and Hattie has like such this huge overreaction,
- 23:16Speaker 1: like she like coms up behind Sarah and like bear
- 23:20Speaker 1: grabs are like it's okay, Like you know, I'm like chill, Hattie,
- 23:26Speaker 1: Like you're making this situation like far more direct dramatic
- 23:29Speaker 1: than it needed to be.
- 23:30Speaker 2: That's all.
- 23:32Speaker 1: These guys have terrible hiding places for their gold. They're
- 23:35Speaker 1: hiding it in a tree. I know the gold is
- 23:37Speaker 1: not heavy. Keep it on your person, totally, put it
- 23:40Speaker 1: in your underpants. You don't have a pouch that you
- 23:41Speaker 1: can put around your crossbody something. Why are we hiding
- 23:44Speaker 1: it in a tree. I don't understand that at all.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I would think there's gold to be stolen constantly and
- 23:50Speaker 1: it deserves to be honestly. At that point, Tom and
- 23:52Speaker 1: the Constable racing each other. It was one of those
- 23:55Speaker 1: like tough guy moments. They both like take off. I
- 23:59Speaker 1: just found it amused. And finally I was watching this
- 24:04Speaker 1: and my daughter comes in the room. She's like, hey,
- 24:05Speaker 1: I know that guy. It was Clayton, and I said,
- 24:08Speaker 1: who who is he? She's like, hold on, and she's
- 24:11Speaker 1: got her phone out and she's like, is that Jededi
- 24:12Speaker 1: a good acre? I said yes, and she goes, yeah,
- 24:15Speaker 1: he was chat on the Descendants, and I said, oh,
- 24:17Speaker 1: I think we may have.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Talked about that in episode one.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Gen Z coming through gen Z coming through it with
- 24:22Speaker 1: their Disney Yeah, original movies, my gosh. Speaking of the Descendants,
- 24:26Speaker 1: I was recently at an arena in La and I
- 24:30Speaker 1: saw like an ad and they're doing some sort of
- 24:32Speaker 1: like Descendants and two other like Disney.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Like mashup Live show.
- 24:38Speaker 1: And I was like, in twenty twenty six, we're still
- 24:41Speaker 1: the Descendants are still pulling in the audience. Evidently my
- 24:44Speaker 1: kid dressed up as like somebody from the dispisode.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Of mine.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Had those four terre stensions. Yes, she plastic costume. Write
- 24:55Speaker 1: that out, Disney, get your money.
- 24:58Speaker 2: That is funny.
- 25:00Speaker 1: All right, almost, so what did you rate this? But no, okay,
- 25:04Speaker 1: I got a question. Are we going to review a
- 25:06Speaker 1: season two?
- 25:07Speaker 2: Yes?
- 25:08Speaker 1: Do you think it's gonna come back at the same
- 25:10Speaker 1: time of year next year? Probably, don't you think? So? Yeah?
- 25:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:17Speaker 1: What I'm hoping for is that start right after when
- 25:20Speaker 1: Calls the Heart ended the same time? Huh yeah yeah,
- 25:24Speaker 1: So I imagine it's probably going to be the same time
- 25:26Speaker 1: next year. M hm. So hope Valley eighteen seventy four
