- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to jasonnew Land dot com. My name's
- 0:10Speaker 1: Jason new Land. Please only listen when you can safely
- 0:20Speaker 1: close your eyes. This is Whisper Saturday Friday. For some reason,
- 0:34Speaker 1: I've done was it Wednesday, Thursday, Friday Saturday for Whisper?
- 0:46Speaker 1: Let me boy the slaves in a row? First thing
- 0:53Speaker 1: in the morning when I wake up, and I don't
- 0:58Speaker 1: know why at down way, hopefully the microphone is picking
- 1:13Speaker 1: up my not so loud voice. I hope it's a
- 1:32Speaker 1: bit of an early start. But I did go to
- 1:36Speaker 1: bed particularly early last night. So I went to bed
- 1:42Speaker 1: at about seven o'clock in the evening. It's about two
- 1:51Speaker 1: thirty hours in the morning, so technically i've had seven
- 1:58Speaker 1: hours was it seven eight nineteen eleven? I want to
- 2:05Speaker 1: seven and a half hours sleep. I visited Uncle Sausages
- 2:15Speaker 1: yesterday and I wasn't gonna It's not that I didn't
- 2:28Speaker 1: want to. Well, I didn't know. It's a weird one.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I don't want to visit him. Of course I do
- 2:37Speaker 1: want to visit him, but I don't at the same time,
- 2:42Speaker 1: just because it's it's it's very difficult. But his other
- 2:53Speaker 1: visitors is only two of us. She contacted me yesterday
- 3:00Speaker 1: and said that she wasn't able to go due to
- 3:06Speaker 1: grand kids. There's some changes in her in a day routine.
- 3:14Speaker 1: So I said, don't worry, I'll go up and see him.
- 3:20Speaker 1: So I did, went up yesterday, got there about half
- 3:27Speaker 1: three in the afternoon. I got a taxi there. It
- 3:36Speaker 1: was raining and proper raining, like really raining, you know what.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I don't think I put my body home. No, oh no.
- 4:05Speaker 1: So I took my brodey with me. I tried to
- 4:09Speaker 1: open it from the front door of the building where
- 4:14Speaker 1: I live to the taxi. Now I got wetter trying
- 4:21Speaker 1: to open the brody and in trying to close it
- 4:27Speaker 1: as I tried. You know, as I opened the taxi door,
- 4:34Speaker 1: I'd have got less way if I just walked straight over,
- 4:37Speaker 1: because it was four footsteps probably, And here it's not
- 4:47Speaker 1: something that I'm gonna gree read forever. It wasn't that
- 4:52Speaker 1: wasn't quite that deep, baby, But thinking about everybody, would
- 4:59Speaker 1: have been eas to just say still take probably in
- 5:07Speaker 1: case I needed to stand outside and wait for a
- 5:09Speaker 1: taxi on the way back. However, it's quite weird because
- 5:27Speaker 1: I can and I hear a voice in the well.
- 5:33Speaker 1: It's it's the driver, and he says, hi, Hi Jason.
- 5:39Speaker 1: So now I'm not looked at him yet cause I'm
- 5:42Speaker 1: I'm I'm backing into the into the taxi. I'm just
- 5:50Speaker 1: thinking it's nice and he's being pleasant considering what's heading
- 5:54Speaker 1: towards him, my big fat bomb. And I settled in
- 6:05Speaker 1: and he said, just checking. Your going to the to
- 6:09Speaker 1: see uncle sausages in a nursing home. I said yeah,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and I turned around and it's this was his name.
- 6:18Speaker 1: He was my regular taxi driver when I was first
- 6:23Speaker 1: started going up to the hospital. When I was up
- 6:28Speaker 1: there every single day and getting taxis there and back
- 6:36Speaker 1: cost me about five hundred pounds and not not a
- 6:42Speaker 1: day because that would be expensive. But he was one
- 6:47Speaker 1: of the regular drivers, so I kind of got to
- 6:49Speaker 1: know him a bit. And then a few weeks ago
- 6:55Speaker 1: I started mainly traveling by by us, so I didn't
- 7:07Speaker 1: see any more drivers, And yesterday it was the first
- 7:12Speaker 1: time that I traveled by taxi for I don't remember
- 7:28Speaker 1: how long it's been. It's not a long time, but
- 7:34Speaker 1: it might be a couple of weeks because I wasn't
- 7:38Speaker 1: able to go out for a week due to COVID
- 7:41Speaker 1: and then I visited Uncle Sausages on Thursday. So I
- 7:50Speaker 1: swim in hospital the previous Wednesday, and then I was
- 7:56Speaker 1: ill on the Wednesday and Thursday. Did the COVID still
- 8:00Speaker 1: a Friday, and then I was clear. Did another COVID
- 8:06Speaker 1: test this Thursday, just got was clear and I went
- 8:11Speaker 1: out to visit of course hostages. Then when I became yesterday,
- 8:17Speaker 1: that's it. Yeah, so I'm sitting there. I don't really
- 8:29Speaker 1: know what to do when I'm there. It didn't seem
- 8:38Speaker 1: the right time to show off my new juggling skills.
- 8:45Speaker 1: You know, it's pretty I don't know. I was talking
- 8:49Speaker 1: to him, updating him on the locals. There's not a
- 8:57Speaker 1: lot going on. It's just the same same people making
- 9:01Speaker 1: the same noise, really and keep hearing the same sentence,
- 9:15Speaker 1: you know, not from him, but the hearing the hearings
- 9:23Speaker 1: a last thing to go. I'm like, okay, I wonder
- 9:30Speaker 1: if he could communicate, what would he say to me?
- 9:41Speaker 1: And I wonder if, if you know, a very few
- 9:44Speaker 1: little scenarios one would possibly bear him saying, will you
- 9:51Speaker 1: please shut up leave me alone? I don't know an
- 10:02Speaker 1: please stop sitting on my leg, please stop farting. There
- 10:12Speaker 1: could be lots of things that he might be trying
- 10:14Speaker 1: to say to me, where's my bloody drinks? That's the
- 10:24Speaker 1: last thing he said to me Wednesday evening, because I
- 10:29Speaker 1: went and visited him. He was asleep in hospital, so
- 10:33Speaker 1: I didn't he look like a little baby just needed
- 10:37Speaker 1: a teddy bear. He looks so comfortable cook a cold
- 10:42Speaker 1: up asleep, And I didn't disturb him because personally, a
- 10:51Speaker 1: couple of days earlier, he told me that all he
- 10:53Speaker 1: wanted was to go to sleep. He said he hadn't
- 10:57Speaker 1: slept properly for the last five weeks, so I didn't
- 11:04Speaker 1: want to disturb him. He looks so peaceful just having
- 11:09Speaker 1: a good sleep. Plus I didn't feel very well. I
- 11:17Speaker 1: just kind of came on on the way to the
- 11:21Speaker 1: laspital and I was like wow, So I just I
- 11:25Speaker 1: took that opportunity to leave. I left a package that
- 11:32Speaker 1: his friend had delivered, or I had had said to
- 11:38Speaker 1: me his friend lives in another country, so I delivered that,
- 11:43Speaker 1: stuck it on the table. It was just a newspaper
- 11:47Speaker 1: in the pack uh sweets, So of course Sausages phoned
- 11:54Speaker 1: me up in the evening. Where were you? He didn't shout,
- 12:00Speaker 1: but he was like, what do you mean, why didn't
- 12:04Speaker 1: you come today? I said, I did come today, but
- 12:08Speaker 1: he was asleep. Why didn't you wake me up? But
- 12:14Speaker 1: I just for what you wanted to sleep? He said,
- 12:18Speaker 1: where's my drinks? I think that's what I've been to him.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I come and visit and then I go and get stuff.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I'm like a like a little uber eats suppose for him,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and that's kind of been my role for the last
- 12:40Speaker 1: month and a half. So I get there, have a chat,
- 12:46Speaker 1: have a catch up, you know, that's how it's been
- 12:49Speaker 1: in hospital, and then he starts talking about, well, what
- 12:55Speaker 1: should we get? Then he went for a little where
- 13:00Speaker 1: he liked to get there sausage ll pasty things in
- 13:04Speaker 1: costa and in the early days, which sounds weird considering
- 13:15Speaker 1: it's been six weeks, but in the early days we
- 13:19Speaker 1: used to walk down there together, go and sit outside,
- 13:25Speaker 1: have a chat. I still remember that first Saturday. So
- 13:32Speaker 1: you went in there on a Friday, ten thirty. We
- 13:37Speaker 1: left here and I think I came back about three
- 13:42Speaker 1: thirty in the morning. It's on there the next day
- 13:47Speaker 1: on a Saturday, and in the afternoon, and at this
- 13:58Speaker 1: point he'd already been they diagnosed him with with what
- 14:03Speaker 1: was wrong with him. It didn't give him a prognosis
- 14:06Speaker 1: at that point, but they told him what it was
- 14:10Speaker 1: because they'd done a scar and everything. And we were downstairs.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I'm not sure if we had drinks. We were just
- 14:26Speaker 1: sitting in the sun, yeah, because there was that was
- 14:34Speaker 1: a sad day and we're on one of these desk
- 14:39Speaker 1: table things and Uncle Sausages started talking about making arrangements
- 14:54Speaker 1: and things like that. I was like, oh, shut up me,
- 14:57Speaker 1: what are you talking about? Because he he started being
- 15:03Speaker 1: practical and then he was saying, oh, we can fight this,
- 15:08Speaker 1: and I said yeah. So it was a little bit emotional.
- 15:14Speaker 1: The next day where it was outside again. This time
- 15:19Speaker 1: we were near this bit of water which is in
- 15:23Speaker 1: hospital crowns and a duck started pecking and winning. Now
- 15:32Speaker 1: I thought it was finny to start with, just because
- 15:36Speaker 1: you know, generally, if I'm sitting somewhere and I felt
- 15:42Speaker 1: some you know, something starts pulling on my glothing or anything,
- 15:46Speaker 1: it's was always finny, even though I didn't have finny
- 15:54Speaker 1: with me. It's just a natural reaction, like what you're doing.
- 15:57Speaker 1: What you're doing, mate. I looked down and it's this
- 16:00Speaker 1: duck staring at me, becking away at me Becker. Oh,
- 16:09Speaker 1: I don't know what that made me laugh, beckon at
- 16:12Speaker 1: me Becker Becker. Anyway, it seems like a really long
- 16:31Speaker 1: time because she used to come out. He went from
- 16:39Speaker 1: coming outside with me to still walking down with me
- 16:45Speaker 1: but sitting in costa, to just sending me down to
- 16:55Speaker 1: get stuff. I remember this one point. One day, it
- 17:09Speaker 1: was uh, a couple of weeks in and he said
- 17:19Speaker 1: he wanted to come home. I said, why in that case,
- 17:26Speaker 1: let's not take the lift anymore. Let's go down the stairs.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Cause he was on the second floor now he was
- 17:33Speaker 1: on the first floor. I said, let's go down the stairs.
- 17:38Speaker 1: He said, if you're gonna be traveling home, if you're
- 17:40Speaker 1: gonna go home, you're gonna have to go up and
- 17:43Speaker 1: down them stairs. And he said, okay. It was fine.
- 17:54Speaker 1: He was a little bit unsteady on his feet anyway.
- 18:00Speaker 1: But I think a lot to do that can be,
- 18:04Speaker 1: you know, when you're wearing your pajamas or wearing it
- 18:07Speaker 1: like a hospital gown, being in public, because even though
- 18:14Speaker 1: you're in hospital, it feels like it feels like being
- 18:20Speaker 1: in a public street. Really. In fact, if anything, it's
- 18:25Speaker 1: a lot busier than a normal public street unless you're
- 18:29Speaker 1: in Oxford Street or somewhere really busy. Thousands of people
- 18:36Speaker 1: just continuously trafficking. It's not the right word, but just
- 18:43Speaker 1: traveling through thousands of people. I mean to me, that
- 18:53Speaker 1: makes me more invisible and anonymous. I just would generally
- 19:03Speaker 1: not think that anyone had noticed me anyway. Really, these days,
- 19:10Speaker 1: I think my noticeability levels have dropped somewhat, and I
- 19:23Speaker 1: think it's just an age thing. It's natural, kind of
- 19:29Speaker 1: blending with the with the wall paint. I think after
- 19:49Speaker 1: seeing Emmy yesterday, it's two days in a row. It's
- 19:56Speaker 1: been a shock to me, to be honest, day as
- 19:59Speaker 1: because it wasn't like that when I last saw him
- 20:02Speaker 1: a week ago. And it's yeah, it's night and day.
- 20:15Speaker 1: It's like completely different. And what's weird about it is
- 20:26Speaker 1: he didn't believe he was ill because he felt fine,
- 20:32Speaker 1: apart from an upset stomach, which he blamed on having
- 20:41Speaker 1: caught a bug or something for an hospital, which is
- 20:45Speaker 1: highly likely. You know, that is a likely situation, but
- 20:51Speaker 1: it wasn't true, you know, that was a symptom of
- 20:54Speaker 1: his condition. And I started to think maybe they'd got
- 21:04Speaker 1: it wrong, because Okay, he is still yellow, but he's
- 21:16Speaker 1: you know, I don't know. It just seemed I don't
- 21:26Speaker 1: know what I'm trying to say. Maybe I was hoping
- 21:29Speaker 1: they'd got it wrong that you know, A really good
- 21:36Speaker 1: scenario would be that they realized it made a mistake
- 21:42Speaker 1: and all he needed was a simple ob which cleared
- 21:48Speaker 1: his system out as it could be going a normal
- 21:51Speaker 1: color again because he used to be it was always
- 21:56Speaker 1: very pale. But like me, although I'm not pale, i'm pink.
- 22:04Speaker 1: The rest of my body's pale, part from my arms.
- 22:07Speaker 1: My forearms are brown because I'm out in a sun
- 22:11Speaker 1: a lot with viny and stuff. But my face is
- 22:18Speaker 1: pink and my feet. Basically, my whole body is the
- 22:25Speaker 1: same color as my feet, this white like pale but
- 22:34Speaker 1: with a pink face. It's very strange. Trust me, if
- 22:37Speaker 1: you see me naked, you don't want to see me naked.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I think it's agreed upon. That's probably not the first
- 22:47Speaker 1: thing you notice. Okay, let's move on from there, and please, please, please,
- 22:57Speaker 1: And yeah, I prefer not to see him. I was,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I was there yesterday. I was just sitting down and
- 23:25Speaker 1: suddenly income in the room bursts this man like what
- 23:31Speaker 1: made me jump, And it was the husband of where
- 23:37Speaker 1: it was the Uncle Sausages friend like you know, got married,
- 23:44Speaker 1: Like the ones that said they weren't coming, there was
- 23:49Speaker 1: a change and they decided to come up and pop
- 23:55Speaker 1: up and see Uncle Sausages and then I don't pick
- 24:00Speaker 1: up their grandkids. I was like, well, blimey made me jump.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I think I was kind of deep in thought. Hard
- 24:14Speaker 1: to believe, but I do sometimes think it's a rare,
- 24:19Speaker 1: rare occurrence. But I gave it go once and I
- 24:24Speaker 1: thought maybe I'll try this again one day, and I
- 24:29Speaker 1: did yesterday. It was that day. Yeah, man, Yeah, it
- 24:44Speaker 1: made me jump. But the good thing about it is
- 24:48Speaker 1: I got a lift home, which was andy because it
- 24:56Speaker 1: cost me sixteen pounds to get there in a taxi
- 25:03Speaker 1: and I was going to get taxi backs. Meanwhile, two reasons,
- 25:09Speaker 1: mainly because it was quite late in the day and
- 25:14Speaker 1: it's going to take me quite a while to walk here.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Plus it was raining, so it wasn't a good idea
- 25:21Speaker 1: to be walking out in the rain. I just get where,
- 25:26Speaker 1: what's the point so there would be unnecessary tempness. We
- 25:40Speaker 1: came back and what's her name's husband wanting to have
- 25:44Speaker 1: a look at the flat because he was going to
- 25:47Speaker 1: clear it out himself because the council asked us to
- 25:51Speaker 1: clear it out as it No, I said, it's not.
- 25:56Speaker 1: It's no one's job to clean it out other than
- 25:59Speaker 1: the council. Uncle Sausages has no family, He hasn't got
- 26:06Speaker 1: anyone that has to do anything like that. Besides, I've
- 26:12Speaker 1: backed up so much of his stuff now at the
- 26:16Speaker 1: request of his friend, just to try and help out
- 26:22Speaker 1: the counsel and help out, you know, generally. And it's
- 26:35Speaker 1: still so much to do. So much to move is
- 26:42Speaker 1: going to take them a good couple of days probably
- 26:45Speaker 1: to empty that place. That's with all the work I've done.
- 26:54Speaker 1: I mean, the front garden's full of bags, and now
- 26:58Speaker 1: the kitchen's full of backs the stuff that I've felt
- 27:04Speaker 1: and always full of bags. Most of the living room
- 27:11Speaker 1: is now pretty much clear other than the furniture, and
- 27:20Speaker 1: a fair bay of the bedroom as well. It's one
- 27:27Speaker 1: of those weird things because I went in here the
- 27:32Speaker 1: other day. A couple of times I've been asked to
- 27:35Speaker 1: go in try and find something. Once it was was
- 27:42Speaker 1: it passport, another time it was his bible another time,
- 27:51Speaker 1: and his radio another time, some money that he had
- 27:56Speaker 1: bull a side. He said it was seventy pounds forty
- 28:00Speaker 1: pounds in some diary that I know exactly what that
- 28:06Speaker 1: money was for. He used to give that to his
- 28:12Speaker 1: other friend for getting shopping for him. It drawed out
- 28:18Speaker 1: money out of the cashpoint at the petrol station. I
- 28:24Speaker 1: didn't He told me this, and he was very organized,
- 28:34Speaker 1: so I remember I had to look for that where else?
- 28:39Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I had to look for some letters, some
- 28:43Speaker 1: ID to send his friend because she needed that. I
- 28:48Speaker 1: think it was proof of his pension because she has
- 28:53Speaker 1: to deal with the finances and counseling stuff. And you know,
- 29:01Speaker 1: being sure he did. She's dealt with the council and
- 29:06Speaker 1: given a month's notice for the end of the tenancy.
- 29:13Speaker 1: But that's because I console I conducted the council. My
- 29:18Speaker 1: tummy's gurgling. I contacted the council just to let them
- 29:26Speaker 1: know the situation and just tell him that that we
- 29:34Speaker 1: need some help with some aspects of the flat, to
- 29:40Speaker 1: get a few micators in and stuff like that. It's
- 29:48Speaker 1: weird cause they they seem more focused on just getting
- 29:56Speaker 1: the flat bag, which I was surprised. I know, I mean,
- 30:02Speaker 1: technically that is their job. For me. You know, we're
- 30:11Speaker 1: dealing with a human being and they're dealing with a property.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Oh well, I imagine, I mean they say a month.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I remember my friend downstairs, they's the council stuck a
- 30:39Speaker 1: sign on the door saying, if you you need to
- 30:49Speaker 1: whoever's god key to this flat, you need to finish
- 30:58Speaker 1: what you're doing, take what you need to take before
- 31:02Speaker 1: a certain day, because that's then the council we're going
- 31:05Speaker 1: to take the flat back. But it gave a month's notice.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Two weeks later they were breaking in and changing the locks,
- 31:22Speaker 1: and that was it. They didn't weigh a month. They
- 31:27Speaker 1: did the same with downstairs. There's another flat and they
- 31:31Speaker 1: put a month's notice. A couple of weeks they came
- 31:36Speaker 1: in and changed the locks. So I don't I'm not
- 31:44Speaker 1: sure if they just struggled to count up to four.
- 31:49Speaker 1: I don't know who. And so I fullesee, having having
- 31:56Speaker 1: experienced that twice, that it might happen again with funcal sausages.
- 32:08Speaker 1: So I I mentioned they can come up next week,
- 32:14Speaker 1: put a sign on the door, notice of but I
- 32:20Speaker 1: don't know, not if fiction, but notice of being the
- 32:24Speaker 1: flat being cleared with a month's notice, and then after
- 32:33Speaker 1: two weeks I probably turned up also downstairs where my
- 32:43Speaker 1: friend used to live, the new tenant who's been there
- 32:47Speaker 1: every year, she's also moved out, which is weird. Mind Joy.
- 33:07Speaker 1: It's not the first time that there's been two flats
- 33:10Speaker 1: empty since I've lived there, because when Luke left most
- 33:18Speaker 1: my friend downstairs, the other flat was also empty. So yeah.
- 33:31Speaker 1: In fact, that week that Luke left, the flat downstairs
- 33:39Speaker 1: was being refurbished by the council. They were preparing it
- 33:44Speaker 1: for the next tenant. But outside of that, I don't notice.
- 33:58Speaker 1: We've got new two new tenants moving into this building.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Fingers crossed that they'll be fairly quiet. I hope, I just,
- 34:15Speaker 1: I just I'm not looking for more door slamming. I
- 34:22Speaker 1: mean one of the door slammers has moved out from downstairs,
- 34:27Speaker 1: the other one downstairs another one doesn't seem to be
- 34:32Speaker 1: able to control ourself, just has to let the door
- 34:35Speaker 1: slam multiple times. I don't know why. The other neighbor
- 34:43Speaker 1: blow me doesn't let the door slam, and I've got
- 34:47Speaker 1: sasag just never let his door slam. And the other
- 34:51Speaker 1: person on my floor doesn't let their door slam, and
- 34:55Speaker 1: I don't either, So At the moment, we've just got
- 34:58Speaker 1: one door slammer, but we might have three in a
- 35:04Speaker 1: couple of months. I don't know, Please please know, I
- 35:15Speaker 1: don't know. The reason the doors slam is because they're
- 35:19Speaker 1: so heavy. They just they're supposed to do that, you know,
- 35:23Speaker 1: in the sense of being fire doors. But they shake
- 35:30Speaker 1: the building when they slam. It's not just it's not
