- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Hey there, welcome back to the Modern Etsy Seller Podcast and What You're Wondering, the segment where I answer one specific Etsy question in under five minutes.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: I'm Melissa, a busyworking mom with two profitable Etsy shops, and I help other busy women make money with Etsy and print on demand.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: In today's episode, I'm answering the question: how often should I add new listings to my Etsy shop?
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Okay, there really is no hard and fast rule here.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: There's no set number to list each day or each week or each month.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: What's important is that you stay active in your shop and get into a steady, consistent flow of creating and listing new products.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: I have experienced my sales declining when I neglect my shop.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: When I started this podcast, I was doing a lot leading up to it, and so my attention shifted away from my Etsy shops.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And after about a month of doing nothing but fulfilling orders, I started to notice a slow decline.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: So I had to make a conscious effort to get back into my shops and start adding new listings again.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: My initial goal was to get up three to five new listings a week.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And after about another month of doing that, I finally started to see an upswing again.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: So it didn't just pick right back up as soon as I became active again.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: In my experience, my shop performs better when I'm consistently adding new listings.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: So while I don't think you need to add something every day, I do recommend trying to get up at least a couple of new listings each week.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Plus, consistently adding new items to your shop obviously builds your inventory, giving you more chances to make sales.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Because the truth is, most of the listings you create aren't going to become bestsellers.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: That is the case for the majority, if not all, shops.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: So the more you list, the more chances you give yourself to find the products that do take off, that do become bestsellers.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: One listing starts selling, then another, and over time you build up this handful of products that are consistently bringing sales into your shop.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Those winners usually make up only a percentage of your total listings, which is exactly why you need enough listings to find them.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: And real quick, another reason you should consistently add new listings is to gather more data.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Seeing which products people are clicking on, which ones they're favoriting, and which ones are actually converting into sales is helpful information.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: It's information that can help you decide what to create next.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: We want to take advantage of what buyers are already telling us through their actions and use that to guide our next listing.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: So I don't want you to get hung up on finding the perfect number that you must list each day or each week, but I do want you to be consistent and that's going to look different depending on what you have going on in your life.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: So pick a pace that makes sense for the season you're in and that you can actually maintain.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's one listing a week.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's three.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Maybe right now you have the time to list one or two a day.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: You don't need to list every day.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: You just don't want to disappear from your shop for weeks at a time.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Alright, that's it for today.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: But before you go, if you've been enjoying the podcast, I would love it if you would take a minute to leave a rating and review.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: It helps more Etsy sellers find the show, and your feedback helps me create more of the episodes you want to hear.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening today, and I will see you next time!
