- Lucas: Velkommen to another episode of Learn Danish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Today we're talking about animals, right? Lucas: That's right. Animals are always fun to talk about. So let's start with a very common one: en hund. Luna: En hund. That sounds like 'hound' in English. Lucas: Exactly. It means 'a dog'. Let's say it together: en hund. Luna: En hund. Lucas: Great. Now, another favorite: en kat. Luna: En kat. That's 'a cat'. Like the English word 'cat' but with a k. Lucas: Perfect. And a third one: en fugl. Luna: En fugl. A bird. Sounds a bit like 'fowl'. Lucas: Yes, exactly. Now let's try a sentence. 'I have a dog' in Danish is: Jeg har en hund. Luna: Jeg har en hund. That's simple. Jeg har en hund. Lucas: You've got it. And 'I like cats' is: Jeg kan godt lide katte. Luna: Jeg kan godt lide katte. That's longer but I remember 'kan godt lide' from hobbies. Lucas: Yes, we used that with 'at læse' and 'at løbe'. So now you can say you like cats. Let's practice all these words again. Luna: Okay. So en hund, en kat, en fugl. And then Jeg har en hund, Jeg kan godt lide katte. Lucas: Perfect. Oh, and maybe one more: en fisk. Luna: En fisk. A fish. That's almost the same as English. Lucas: Right. So now you can talk about pets. Let's do a little scene. Imagine you're telling me about your pets. Luna: Okay. Jeg har en hund og en kat. Lucas: Aww, you have a dog and a cat. That's sweet. And what about a bird? Har du en fugl? Luna: Nej, jeg har ikke en fugl. Men jeg kan godt lide fugle. Lucas: Nice. So 'but I like birds'. That's a great sentence. Let's break it down: 'men' means 'but', 'jeg kan godt lide fugle'. Luna: Men jeg kan godt lide fugle. Nice. So we're using plural there: fugle. Lucas: Yes, 'fugle' is the plural of 'fugl'. And 'katte' is the plural of 'kat'. But 'hunde' is the plural of 'hund'. Luna: So en hund, to hunde. En kat, to katte. En fugl, to fugle. That's a pattern. Lucas: Exactly. And 'en fisk' becomes 'to fisk' — no change. Luna: Oh, like in English. One fish, two fish. Lucas: Exactly. So let's practice a few more sentences. How would you say 'I like dogs'? Luna: Jeg kan godt lide hunde. Lucas: Perfect. And 'I have a bird'? Luna: Jeg har en fugl. Lucas: Great. Now you can talk about your furry and feathered friends in Danish. Let's wrap up with a quick review. Luna: Sounds good. So today we learned: en hund, en kat, en fugl, en fisk. And sentences: Jeg har en hund, Jeg kan godt lide katte. Lucas: And you can mix and match. Practice saying what pets you have or like. Tak for i dag, Luna. Luna: Tak, Lucas. And thank you, listeners, for joining us. Keep practicing with Fexingo. Vi ses! Lucas: Vi ses! See you next time.
